- 0:47Speaker 3: Son of a Boy Dad Special Edition right here.
- 0:51Speaker 1: This one is just me no SaaS and we have
- 0:54Speaker 1: a kind of cool ass guest from my perspective, a
- 0:58Speaker 1: luminary in the battle World, one of my favorite battle
- 1:01Speaker 1: rappers of all time. Dude crushes it in acting, dude
- 1:04Speaker 1: crushes it in music, and he and I just had
- 1:07Speaker 1: a rap battle against one another, which is like kind
- 1:10Speaker 1: of like a cool ass New age way to do
- 1:12Speaker 1: a podcast, just like, uh, we haven't been able to
- 1:15Speaker 1: talk about it too, actually, which is why I'm super
- 1:17Speaker 1: interested in having the conversation.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Uh dumbfounded. What's avoid that?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Bro?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Guy Ron, Thank you so much for coming through. Bro.
- 1:25Speaker 3: We're super fired up to have you here.
- 1:27Speaker 5: Dude, I'm stoked to link up because right after our
- 1:30Speaker 5: battle you have to leave. Actually yeah yeah, some emergency
- 1:33Speaker 5: and pretty much we haven't gotten to talk about it
- 1:36Speaker 5: or you celebrate, you know, the battle and everything.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So because that is a ritual of battling, like afterwards
- 1:42Speaker 1: you kind of hold this hate for somebody for so
- 1:44Speaker 1: long you're like.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Fuck this pussy, Like I'm about to fuck this dude.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Up, and then afterwards it's like wait, like we're on
- 1:49Speaker 1: the same team, making the same piece of heart with
- 1:52Speaker 1: each other. Yeah, it's like very collaborative. So it's like
- 1:55Speaker 1: the chance to like enjoy that never existed to.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Be fair, like, it was never like the hate. It's
- 2:00Speaker 5: always like homies around you. That's just kind of like
- 2:04Speaker 5: you got this bro hey ship and you gotta like
- 2:07Speaker 5: you gotta have them, really sell you on that hate,
- 2:10Speaker 5: you know what I mean, because I mean.
- 2:11Speaker 3: We've hung out with friends of course usual respect.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, like you for people that don't know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: like Dumbfounded started battling when he was like a teenager
- 2:22Speaker 1: running around in LA has been through every phase of battling,
- 2:27Speaker 1: from like freestyling to like the two on two type
- 2:30Speaker 1: of battles in the park where it was half written
- 2:33Speaker 1: half freestyle, to like this new fully written era. So
- 2:36Speaker 1: you kind of have seen it all and you've been
- 2:38Speaker 1: in the game, like yeah, like millions of views, like
- 2:41Speaker 1: tons of accolades have battled around the world like so decorated.
- 2:45Speaker 5: It's it's crazy because I remember too, when you know
- 2:49Speaker 5: that viral video or audio of you battling Charles Hamilton
- 2:54Speaker 5: right right, that was like a thing. Yeah yeah, And
- 2:56Speaker 5: like you know, the the timeline of battle Rap history
- 2:59Speaker 5: that was two thousand and eight probably that's probably around.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Two that's what I'm saying. That's Matt early too, you
- 3:04Speaker 3: know what I'm saying.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Like I would have graduated high school in two thousand
- 3:07Speaker 5: and four, and that was right around the time things
- 3:10Speaker 5: were kind of starting to happen for me. So two
- 3:12Speaker 5: thousand and eight is still early, Like we're still coming
- 3:14Speaker 5: up around the same time.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So when I was before that Charles Hamilton battle, the
- 3:19Speaker 1: way I like dipped my toes into battle rap was
- 3:22Speaker 1: watching something called the World Rap Champions.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that was big during that time.
- 3:25Speaker 1: They would come off on Jumpoff Dot TV and they
- 3:28Speaker 1: would be released like two Battles of Morning, the four
- 3:30Speaker 1: Battles of Morning, and I would watch them in college
- 3:32Speaker 1: and you were doing these two on two battles.
- 3:34Speaker 5: My one of my first kind of entry things into
- 3:36Speaker 5: the national battles scene. I would say, you know, not local,
- 3:39Speaker 5: you know, so that was crazy, cause but I was.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I was in the I was studying. I was just
- 3:43Speaker 3: like this, That's like how I was too.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I was learning about all the regional dudes, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 5: like you had Hollow he was in the Houston League
- 3:51Speaker 5: or some shit. Yeah, and one of the biggest battlers
- 3:54Speaker 5: in the world, marv One Quest McCody, Like you know,
- 3:57Speaker 5: they were Detroit. We were learning about like the scene,
- 4:00Speaker 5: we're learning about like the West Coast guys, you know.
- 4:03Speaker 5: So I was learning about all the national dudes too
- 4:05Speaker 5: at the time, Like I didn't know about the New
- 4:07Speaker 5: York Cats, and you know, all that.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It was a stylistic jumbalie, like everything was kind of being.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Really cool, really ahead of his time. I don't think
- 4:15Speaker 5: there's been anything like that even since you know.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I don't even know how they paid for it,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Like how where did them where did the money come from?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Like they had like they were live streaming or like
- 4:24Speaker 1: not live streaming, but putting out fresh like battles every
- 4:27Speaker 1: single day on a non YouTube platform.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I still don't know where any money from battle rap
- 4:31Speaker 5: comes from. To be honest, you ever think about that shit,
- 4:35Speaker 5: You're like, how the fuck do they pay everybody?
- 4:37Speaker 6: They?
- 4:37Speaker 5: Are they really making money? I always think about everything
- 4:40Speaker 5: like that, not to ship on anything. I'm just curious,
- 4:43Speaker 5: you know, same, because.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think that comes with like you're you you have
- 4:46Speaker 1: to like fund some of your own shit. You're on
- 4:47Speaker 1: the business side now, you know what a cost to
- 4:49Speaker 1: make something. And I feel like I'm in the same
- 4:51Speaker 1: place where it's like damn, like where where what.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Like is it sponsorships, is it ticket sales? Does it
- 4:57Speaker 3: pay per views? Like right, yeah, I don't know.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'm seriously like it's a anomaly because like
- 5:04Speaker 5: I've always thought about it as over the past ten
- 5:07Speaker 5: twenty years of battle rap, you've had these big mainstream rappers.
- 5:10Speaker 5: I've always thought they're just kind of throwing their money
- 5:13Speaker 5: at it, like they want to see.
- 5:15Speaker 3: A cock fight, you know. Yeah, and the money drives
- 5:18Speaker 3: up once they get the bloodlust Saturday.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, That's what I think it is, you know
- 5:22Speaker 5: what I mean. And it's just like one night at
- 5:24Speaker 5: the strip club, except it's like dude spinning bars.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah, these hobbiests. These dudes are just get off like
- 5:29Speaker 3: so yeah. Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 5: During the time where like Drake was coming in and
- 5:33Speaker 5: all that, I was just that's what I thought it was.
- 5:35Speaker 5: He's like, I'm just gonna take this l to satisfy
- 5:37Speaker 5: my own lyrical perversion, which.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Kind of see you're sick like that is just like
- 5:41Speaker 1: your plaything.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It's like very rich to be able to do. That's what.
- 5:45Speaker 5: That's a real respect for them doing it, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 5: doing it please.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But that's why I think you see so many like
- 5:51Speaker 1: Flash in the Pan or like one off type of
- 5:53Speaker 1: leagues or whatever. Yeah, and uh, you know where we
- 5:57Speaker 1: did our battle King to Dot is definitely one of
- 5:59Speaker 1: the more established, but even so they were I also
- 6:02Speaker 1: think everybody's lying about how much money they get.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I feel like I think anybody has ever told the truth.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Nah, man, you gotta you gotta gas up the culture
- 6:13Speaker 5: bigger than it actually is, you know, I mean, you
- 6:17Speaker 5: know everyone is lying in a pitch deck somewhere.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 6:22Speaker 5: You have to you have to to get the brands
- 6:25Speaker 5: and sponsors and all that.
- 6:27Speaker 3: You know. I almost want.
- 6:28Speaker 1: To like lay bare, like how much money I made
- 6:30Speaker 1: on a lot of battles, because like the answer was
- 6:32Speaker 1: zero dollars, Yeah, on almost all wrap battles.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I'm for sure you know,
- 6:38Speaker 5: like how much I have to lie in pitch decks
- 6:39Speaker 5: Like I got, I got all of Asia on deck
- 6:44Speaker 5: right now. I say the word, and that's billions of
- 6:47Speaker 5: people in China ready to invest right now, you know
- 6:51Speaker 5: what I meant?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, everyone in China, everyone in India.
- 6:57Speaker 5: That's four billions. You want Asia, I'm your man. It's
- 7:01Speaker 5: like what that is. You need to be able to
- 7:04Speaker 5: lie a little bit as part of the game. It
- 7:06Speaker 5: is a part They're not lying to you.
- 7:08Speaker 3: On the other side of the pitch deck.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We only have X, y Z, we only have this
- 7:12Speaker 1: much money, Like we're only able to like pay this
- 7:15Speaker 1: much or whatever.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Yeah, no, for sure, for sure, you gotta guess up
- 7:18Speaker 3: your own shit.
- 7:19Speaker 5: And I feel like battle Rap is still one of
- 7:21Speaker 5: those things that I still think.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Could be bigger and should be bigger.
- 7:28Speaker 5: In my opinion, I think as a branded somebody who
- 7:33Speaker 5: has experienced in branding things and marketing, even just as
- 7:36Speaker 5: an independent business which my name myself, like, I would
- 7:41Speaker 5: tweak things differently, so we'll talk about it.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I would make the rounds shorter.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Okay, you know minute two minutes, maybe two to three,
- 7:53Speaker 6: you know, no more than that though, like a timer,
- 7:56Speaker 6: maybe a timer, but more than that.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I think each individual battle Rapper has to make changes
- 8:03Speaker 5: in their writing style. Like I think we can't be
- 8:07Speaker 5: too insular with like just the culture in itself. We
- 8:11Speaker 5: have to think about like viewers that aren't battle Rap
- 8:14Speaker 5: fans watching this, you know what I'm saying, And we
- 8:17Speaker 5: people do that in television writing, film writing.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Why aren't we doing that in this? It's got to
- 8:21Speaker 3: be accessible to people. Hunderd percent. I mean I always
- 8:25Speaker 3: think about that on when I'm writing.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I want people to like everybody of all, you know,
- 8:29Speaker 5: like the mom hovering over the Battle rap fan you
- 8:32Speaker 5: know is watching this on YouTube too, and I want
- 8:35Speaker 5: her to get it.
- 8:36Speaker 1: You want to be like the one person she likes,
- 8:38Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like I don't understand.
- 8:41Speaker 5: It, but like I like that, right, but a little
- 8:45Speaker 5: something where it is a little bit more accessible.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie.
- 8:48Speaker 5: There's a lot of Battle Rappers I even watch and
- 8:51Speaker 5: there's lines I don't understand the times, you know what
- 8:54Speaker 5: I mean, And that's fine, but I'm just looking at it.
- 8:58Speaker 3: For the culture. I want to be bigger.
- 9:00Speaker 5: I think it's incredible what motherfuckers can do in this,
- 9:03Speaker 5: you know.
- 9:04Speaker 3: But if you don't know the backstory.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And even as I was trying to prepare against you,
- 9:07Speaker 1: I think a lot of times when I try and
- 9:09Speaker 1: go against somebody, I'll try and like mirror their style
- 9:12Speaker 1: with right, right right, It'll be like, oh, this is
- 9:14Speaker 1: the type of shit he does.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I would like to do that, so some that was
- 9:17Speaker 3: one of.
- 9:17Speaker 1: The things I took try to paint painting things in
- 9:20Speaker 1: like universal accessibility, but also economy of language was something
- 9:26Speaker 1: I thought of.
- 9:26Speaker 5: Can I say something Jesus reminded me of a line
- 9:29Speaker 5: that you said that the homie Danny or homie.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Danny Chung, our mutual friend, mentioned that you.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Said like a deep cut Asian thing, and he was like,
- 9:38Speaker 5: that's some shit, like the president of the Asian Student
- 9:41Speaker 5: Association would have brought up. And it was like it
- 9:44Speaker 5: was something about like I'll leave you like Japanese breakfast,
- 9:48Speaker 5: crying in H Mart or something like that, and it
- 9:50Speaker 5: just went over like everyone's head, but like the Asian
- 9:53Speaker 5: heads with like completely right ahemart is.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So when I worked with Danny, we would go to
- 9:58Speaker 1: h Mart, like you go to the H Mart and
- 9:59Speaker 1: like Northeast Philly, h Mart's like a Korean grocery store.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I think that's the best way to put it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And he would just it would be like blood sausage
- 10:06Speaker 1: and like just a bunch of food I'd never seen.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But also on top of that like a hair salon.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Yeah, like a really tight But the book is like
- 10:13Speaker 5: also like heralded in the Asian community, crying in H Mart, right,
- 10:17Speaker 5: Japanese breakfast, like it was a super deep cut.
- 10:20Speaker 3: It was a deep cut, bru.
- 10:21Speaker 1: So I wasn't even trying to get super deep into it,
- 10:24Speaker 1: but that was I think it was in the right,
- 10:26Speaker 1: Like no, I appreciate it that's the kind of shit
- 10:28Speaker 1: I appreciated.
- 10:29Speaker 5: But it was just so funny because like, that's that
- 10:32Speaker 5: was definitely like, okay, it was something that would have
- 10:35Speaker 5: been brought up in me in versus Hanstrium or some
- 10:37Speaker 5: shit in the modern day, you know, like it.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Was a little bit too yeah, a little bit too inside.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But in retrospect, I think I wish I wrote more
- 10:45Speaker 1: like more inside stuff or more like referential stuff to
- 10:50Speaker 1: my and your like relationship in times that we linked up,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Like in your third round you talked a lot about
- 10:56Speaker 1: me going to La or whatever and seeing you you did.
- 10:58Speaker 3: The same shit you're talking about.
- 10:59Speaker 5: Didn't you say something about going to Cafe Blue and
- 11:01Speaker 5: I was like fucking doing drugs in the bathroom and shit?
- 11:04Speaker 3: Or did I say that, Arthur? Maybe was that in
- 11:07Speaker 3: the battle or oh was that in the like the interview.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Or something maybe or so I don't even know, Yeah,
- 11:11Speaker 1: maybe that might have been in the interview.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Yeah, at the time, like when you were visiting La,
- 11:16Speaker 5: I was still drinking heavy, doing a lot of drugs
- 11:18Speaker 5: and ship and there was like a bar I frequented,
- 11:21Speaker 5: and you were tagging along with us and fucking doing
- 11:25Speaker 5: eight ball with friends in the bathroom and all types
- 11:28Speaker 5: of shit, and.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I was but it was the illest spot, dude. It
- 11:32Speaker 3: was in like the way that la is set up.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Everything's obviously in strip mall, so it's like kind of
- 11:37Speaker 1: like the corner of a strip mall and you go
- 11:39Speaker 1: in and it's like very dark, but also like blue.
- 11:42Speaker 1: All accent lighting is all the accent lighting is blue
- 11:45Speaker 1: all around, and they just run shit there.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Dude.
- 11:48Speaker 1: He has like a group of friends and they had
- 11:50Speaker 1: like a little corner booth and like they would just
- 11:53Speaker 1: post up, get some drinks like whatever, like maybe some
- 11:56Speaker 1: bottles or something like that. But dudes would even just
- 11:58Speaker 1: come up just like try to like show them like
- 12:01Speaker 1: little bits of drugs and like just like kind of
- 12:03Speaker 1: like floating back to the background battle.
- 12:04Speaker 5: I was just talking to Danny, like I know he's
- 12:06Speaker 5: gonna mention that I'm some kind of coke head and
- 12:08Speaker 5: They're going to the spot. Like I know he's gonna
- 12:10Speaker 5: bring that shit up. I was like, Yo, I need
- 12:12Speaker 5: some cocaine rebuttals. That's what I was asking. Give me
- 12:15Speaker 5: some cocaine rebuttals.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Bro Oh my god. Yeah, So that was that's funny.
- 12:20Speaker 7: I'm not going back to college to be your friend.
- 12:23Speaker 7: I'm going so I can get uber one for students.
- 12:25Speaker 7: It saves you on Uber and Uber eats. I'm there
- 12:28Speaker 7: for zero dollar delivery fee on cheeseburgers, up to ten
- 12:31Speaker 7: percent off smoothies, and six percent Uber credits back on rides.
- 12:35Speaker 7: Just to be clear, I'm there for savings, not whatever
- 12:38Speaker 7: you think college is for.
- 12:39Speaker 8: Get uber one for students, a membership to save on
- 12:42Speaker 8: Uber and Uber eats with deals this good. Everyone wants
- 12:45Speaker 8: to be a student joined for just four ninety nine
- 12:47Speaker 8: a month savings me very eligibility and member terms apply.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I just it was just a cool ass atmosphere, but
- 12:53Speaker 1: also like, uh, you just roll. Everybody was very accomplished
- 12:57Speaker 1: that we were around. It was like it seemed like
- 12:59Speaker 1: it's just.
- 13:00Speaker 5: It's like the spot, like you know, if Italian community
- 13:04Speaker 5: has their spot, like in like a restaurant or some shit.
- 13:07Speaker 3: It's like the Korean like mob spot, you know.
- 13:10Speaker 5: But yeah, like a lot of Asian artists hang out there,
- 13:14Speaker 5: like celebrities and shit like that, so it's cool.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I was out writing for that dropped from my show.
- 13:21Speaker 1: That's why I was living out there. So it was
- 13:22Speaker 1: like it was like a six month and like a
- 13:24Speaker 1: five month period or something where I was living out
- 13:26Speaker 1: there and so I would just kind of.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Tag along and like with what was his name, Jensen? Jensen?
- 13:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you had a very interesting We were just talking
- 13:34Speaker 1: about how Bro, you do not want to find shrimp
- 13:36Speaker 1: and your cinnamon toast crunch dude.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Cool, it could lead to a lot of problems.
- 13:40Speaker 5: That was a wild Wow was a couple of weeks
- 13:43Speaker 5: that that was going on. Ye where vi virality of
- 13:47Speaker 5: Jensen on Twitter? Yes, leading up to a cancelation of swords. Yeah,
- 13:51Speaker 5: it was a fucking rollercoaster, Bro.
- 13:53Speaker 1: And some of the cancelation like was like, dude to
- 13:56Speaker 1: stuff that happened on the show. It was like people
- 13:58Speaker 1: being like I work with him on this show, show
- 14:00Speaker 1: like you do not want me to get into like
- 14:02Speaker 1: like that's why he yelled or like he yelled for
- 14:05Speaker 1: me to get in his office or something.
- 14:06Speaker 5: That was a case study, Bro of unwanted attention. Yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 5: that is a fucking case study. He he was loving
- 14:17Speaker 5: that shit, Bro, milking the virality of it.
- 14:20Speaker 3: But you don't want too much attention, Bro, I'm telling you.
- 14:23Speaker 3: They always say that.
- 14:23Speaker 1: About the Internet, Like you, there's always a main character
- 14:27Speaker 1: for a day, and you don't want to be that
- 14:29Speaker 1: main Chara bro. All people from your everyone you ever
- 14:33Speaker 1: met will be coming out of the wood. Where cancelation
- 14:36Speaker 1: was also at an all time high there, and people
- 14:38Speaker 1: were almost like testing the waters of like what type
- 14:41Speaker 1: of infractions could they get someone like uh canceled for
- 14:45Speaker 1: It was almost like broader and broader infractions where it's
- 14:48Speaker 1: like can we get in for this, can we get
- 14:49Speaker 1: them for this man? Can we get take him down
- 14:51Speaker 1: for this?
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yep?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Where it was just like sometimes workplace stuff or argumentative
- 14:55Speaker 1: stuff where it's like damn, like it's not necessarily like
- 14:59Speaker 1: criminal or even like they're or like.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Oh, they're just waiting. I know, motherfuckers are waiting for me.
- 15:05Speaker 5: To Yeah, how do something big because I got you know,
- 15:08Speaker 5: we all got skeletons. Yeah, not skeletons, but like once
- 15:12Speaker 5: you start getting a level of success, even dudes have
- 15:15Speaker 5: petty beefs with you are waiting for something to get
- 15:19Speaker 5: you and find like ways to start a movement to
- 15:22Speaker 5: destroy you.
- 15:23Speaker 3: People hate you. Somebody hates you out.
- 15:26Speaker 5: There no matter who you are, you know, somebody fucking
- 15:29Speaker 5: hates you. And it's even like the movie Old Boy,
- 15:32Speaker 5: I don't know if you've seen Old Boy. Yeah, so
- 15:34Speaker 5: that was a petty beef that dude had. I mean,
- 15:37Speaker 5: maybe it wasn't petty in hindsight, but he didn't know
- 15:40Speaker 5: about that shit. The main dude, you know, got locked
- 15:43Speaker 5: up in a room for years and all this shit.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And winds up killing everybody.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Everybody it is past exactly, and what that was was
- 15:51Speaker 5: in the movie, the main character gets locked out of
- 15:54Speaker 5: nowhere for like ten years plus or whatever and gets
- 15:57Speaker 5: released and he finds out why somebody hit this to him,
- 15:59Speaker 5: and all it was was him like seeing something and
- 16:03Speaker 5: told the whole school in high school, and that's why
- 16:06Speaker 5: that the guy did it.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Damn bro.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I really like just remember a lot of like the
- 16:10Speaker 1: barbaric nature of that movie as opposed to like the
- 16:13Speaker 1: fucking intricacies of the problem that shit is.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I mean, it is a case study, dude. It's very
- 16:17Speaker 3: it's dangerous.
- 16:18Speaker 5: And the thing is, it's like, you know, we both
- 16:20Speaker 5: have famous friends, right, Like a lot of these famous
- 16:23Speaker 5: friends I've seen there's times like I want to achieve.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Their level of success and fame, you know, and.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Then after years pass and seeing them go through all
- 16:32Speaker 5: types of shit in the press and all that. I'm like,
- 16:36Speaker 5: I feel like this is the perfect place to be,
- 16:39Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I've had people say that to me.
- 16:41Speaker 1: They're like, you're kind of at like an awesome level
- 16:43Speaker 1: of notoriety where like people will come up to you
- 16:46Speaker 1: while you're out drinking and like you can like say
- 16:49Speaker 1: what's up to them, but you can also like carry
- 16:51Speaker 1: on your conversation with your friends where it's not like
- 16:53Speaker 1: hell for you. Like you have to have friends where
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's just like tough to even be around them in
- 16:58Speaker 1: public because you have to rush from one door to
- 17:01Speaker 1: the other. People are like snapping pictures, are always like
- 17:03Speaker 1: trying to grab them or rip them. It's like you're
- 17:05Speaker 1: not living a life. Oh yeah, one hundred percent. It's
- 17:08Speaker 1: just like I've seen it, the loneliness.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Even sometimes like friends will hit me up just to
- 17:13Speaker 5: hang out and it just sounds like I'm like, is
- 17:15Speaker 5: this coming from this guy with this position?
- 17:18Speaker 3: And yeah, that's you know, he's just trying to chill.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Man, I see the sad emojis like get sent man. Yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 5: I'm like, I can't believe a man of your stature
- 17:27Speaker 5: is using these emojis.
- 17:29Speaker 3: It's sad. It's a soft as hell bro fighting the
- 17:32Speaker 3: hell up. It's a sad man.
- 17:34Speaker 1: What do you does your way of hitting somebody up
- 17:38Speaker 1: once they get a new level of fame change or
- 17:40Speaker 1: how do you make sure that it doesn't you.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Know what I mean? Like you don't want to be
- 17:43Speaker 3: like hitting them up, like like you're not.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Like I've had this inner monologue where I'm like, dude,
- 17:48Speaker 1: am I Like Dick Royding was like no, like wait,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I'm friends with this person.
- 17:51Speaker 5: I think I usually just wait for them because you know,
- 17:53Speaker 5: I think when you get to that point, your schedule
- 17:55Speaker 5: gets crazy and you they don't make plans like week
- 18:00Speaker 5: or two weeks in advance. You know, they're just like, yo,
- 18:03Speaker 5: let's do lunch in like twenty minutes, and you either
- 18:05Speaker 5: got to pull up or nah, Like I can't know,
- 18:08Speaker 5: but I accommodate sometimes, like some really busy friend who's
- 18:14Speaker 5: you know, doing press all the time and shit like that,
- 18:15Speaker 5: if he wants to do lunch in the next thirty minutes,
- 18:17Speaker 5: like okay, like I'll make it work.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I wouldn't do that for many people though, you know, right,
- 18:22Speaker 3: but you know, but if Danny flies in from Singapore
- 18:24Speaker 3: and trying to get a cup of coffee.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Yeah, come on, you know, this guy moved to Thailand,
- 18:29Speaker 5: changed his life.
- 18:30Speaker 3: He's in Thailand, bro, I see.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Him all over the fucking place. Yeah, he's in Thailand,
- 18:34Speaker 1: in Thailand. Yeah, what the fuck? What brought him out there?
- 18:37Speaker 3: I think it's usually like sixty two year.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Old Australian guys going out out there and they're looking
- 18:42Speaker 1: for different Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:44Speaker 5: If you're an Asian dude in your thirties, you're just
- 18:47Speaker 5: doing business there.
- 18:48Speaker 3: You're not there for sex tourism, you know.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 5: Yeah, right, So he's actually he's our friend who's in
- 18:54Speaker 5: the K pop business and they're expanding into Southeast Asia,
- 18:57Speaker 5: and that's what he's doing there.
- 18:59Speaker 1: He's just been he just has his hand in fucking
- 19:01Speaker 1: all businesses. The way that you described him to me
- 19:04Speaker 1: like one of the first times that like I knew
- 19:06Speaker 1: that you guys knew each other and.
- 19:07Speaker 3: You were like, dude, he's the swaggiest Asian dude a lot. Yeah.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Yeah, he's found himself where he's become almost like a
- 19:14Speaker 5: consultant two Korean record labels for American culture almost, you know.
- 19:22Speaker 5: And he had to go in there with his Rick
- 19:23Speaker 5: Owens and ship and be like, yeah, I know shit.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I know culture bro.
- 19:30Speaker 5: He has boots, but yeah, I think people are looking
- 19:34Speaker 5: for these consultant types.
- 19:35Speaker 3: You know. So did he producer write? Like, what's his
- 19:38Speaker 3: relationship with Black Pink and Ship. Yeah, he's a writer.
- 19:40Speaker 3: He's a songwriter for them.
- 19:42Speaker 5: He tends to write a lot of the raps for
- 19:45Speaker 5: the artists over there. Like so when they they're doing
- 19:48Speaker 5: a K pop song and they got a quick eight
- 19:50Speaker 5: bars in there of rap, that's that's it.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It is always clean, dude, It always has a little
- 19:56Speaker 1: bit of rhythm. Brody has flows. Yeah, definitely has some flows.
- 19:59Speaker 5: It's so funny from like knowing Danny's rap style and
- 20:02Speaker 5: now listening to K pop song, I can totally tell
- 20:05Speaker 5: that's Danny's raps, which is like a funny.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Why what are his giveaways? Is it like the pocket
- 20:10Speaker 3: that he's in?
- 20:11Speaker 5: No, this is like cool type of shit metaphors and analogies.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I'm like, there's no way this eighteen year old Korean
- 20:18Speaker 5: girl doesn't speak English out of this metaphor.
- 20:20Speaker 1: These nuanced like American turns and phrase.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm like, did she say there's some like a
- 20:26Speaker 5: local Philly spot on the corner.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm Max's he steaks or something like that,
- 20:31Speaker 1: Like what the fuck's she knows? She can't know Maxis,
- 20:36Speaker 1: But Danny was always smooth with it, and it's just
- 20:38Speaker 1: impressive to find someone who he was making music and
- 20:41Speaker 1: doing well on his own, but just like seeing the
- 20:43Speaker 1: guy who winds up being behind like Black Pink. I
- 20:46Speaker 1: don't know if some of a boy Dad listeners know,
- 20:48Speaker 1: but it's like one of the biggest like acts in
- 20:50Speaker 1: the world.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Like they just headlined Coachella.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I think they were like the first international Asian group
- 20:56Speaker 5: or whatever or Asian artists to headline Coachella. So I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 5: I just tells you. I feel like K pop is
- 21:02Speaker 5: already kind of been lit now. It's almost like, you know,
- 21:06Speaker 5: I'm not not to say it's on its way out,
- 21:08Speaker 5: it's just kind of just part of the culture now.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Like all it's just a genre. It is, you know,
- 21:13Speaker 3: yeah music.
- 21:14Speaker 5: It's not weird or it's not you know, it's just
- 21:16Speaker 5: like it's amongst like Latin music, I guess, like bad
- 21:18Speaker 5: money or something.
- 21:19Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, it's just gonna be here and that's
- 21:21Speaker 3: just that type of music.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's Yeah, can you explain why like k pop,
- 21:26Speaker 1: Like why Korean culture like wound up being like the one.
- 21:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 21:31Speaker 5: I think about that all the time, you know, like
- 21:35Speaker 5: I feel it's weird still, Like I'll turn on to
- 21:38Speaker 5: radio and there's like Korean song in Korean language. I
- 21:44Speaker 5: think we packaged it really well, so beyond the language,
- 21:47Speaker 5: it's just like the packaging and the look and the
- 21:50Speaker 5: visuals of it all. But it's so funny because like
- 21:54Speaker 5: I'm when I first started early on, I was one
- 21:57Speaker 5: of the earlier like Asian American musicians in America like
- 22:00Speaker 5: finding some success, and I was like, oh yeah, I'm
- 22:02Speaker 5: one of the three four artists like doing it, you know,
- 22:06Speaker 5: and then like all of Asian artists breakout, you know,
- 22:10Speaker 5: and like no one gives a fuck about Asian American artists.
- 22:13Speaker 3: They give a fuck about Asian artists.
- 22:15Speaker 5: They do. They don't give a fuck about Asian not
- 22:17Speaker 5: as much as Asian artists, you know.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Like it's just funny.
- 22:21Speaker 5: It's just kind of like one of the thought I
- 22:23Speaker 5: think about this sometimes, like my parents come into this
- 22:25Speaker 5: country for like a better life for us, but I'm
- 22:28Speaker 5: like Korea ended up thriving, you know what I'm saying.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Let y'all should have stayed there. What the fuck we're
- 22:36Speaker 5: struggling still here, you'd be.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Averaging a billion view.
- 22:39Speaker 5: My dad might have, like, instead of getting an alcohol
- 22:42Speaker 5: like problem, he would have, like this started, had a
- 22:45Speaker 5: CEO position at Samsung, you know, like Rick Peerlman or Yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 5: my sister would have been part of Black Pink. I
- 22:52Speaker 5: would have been a huge wrapper out there. You know, dude,
- 22:56Speaker 5: you got fun. Yeah, my mom's starring in a Korean
- 22:59Speaker 5: drama like just everything.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Dude, I need to start chasing that Korean dream. Dude,
- 23:04Speaker 3: I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe you could
- 23:05Speaker 3: find a way in there somehow, dude.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I mean there there were like a handful of like
- 23:10Speaker 1: white K pop groups dudes over there who were like
- 23:12Speaker 1: trying to band together and like.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Copy the look right. Uh who I just saw.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I remember like seeing the like New York Post article
- 23:21Speaker 1: about like five.
- 23:22Speaker 3: White dudes like, yeah, fun, that was the funniest ship.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Yeah, they were roasting them. I mean that was just
- 23:28Speaker 5: like a funny. They weren't bigger at all, but it
- 23:30Speaker 5: was like a funny thing. You like, let's let's interview
- 23:33Speaker 5: these guys.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I wanted.
- 23:35Speaker 5: I think I actually like DM one of those dudes
- 23:38Speaker 5: like try to get them on my pod because I
- 23:39Speaker 5: thought it was funny as fuck.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, they're definitely check out your pod. One of the things.
- 23:43Speaker 1: As I like studied the battle, I watched a lot
- 23:45Speaker 1: of your pod and fun with them. Definitely check that
- 23:48Speaker 1: ship out because, uh, it's just good ass, funny conversation
- 23:52Speaker 1: bro cool aesthetic, you know what I mean?
- 23:53Speaker 3: Cool co hosts. Yeah, it's it's fun.
- 23:55Speaker 5: It's funny. And my boy Rick that we know too.
- 23:58Speaker 5: He's amazing rapper. Actually, yeah, we.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Did a pilot for this MTV show. It was like
- 24:03Speaker 1: a wrap the news show, like a learning through rap
- 24:05Speaker 1: show or something like that.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean he's he's he's a great
- 24:10Speaker 5: topical rapper, you know what I'm saying. You give him
- 24:13Speaker 5: a topic and he's like lyricist lounge with that ship,
- 24:16Speaker 5: you know, he's a beast.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 3: What other Korean guests have you guys? Had you at barstool?
- 24:21Speaker 3: No many? Yeah, I'm just curious, like, well, who who
- 24:24Speaker 3: it would have been? You know?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Would it be like maybe uh maybe Aquafina's been on,
- 24:29Speaker 1: maybe she.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Caye some ship. Maybe I wonder like if there was
- 24:32Speaker 3: like a fighter or something maybe who's Yeah, I don't,
- 24:38Speaker 3: I don't think that. I don't. I don't know if
- 24:39Speaker 3: that a celebrity, you might be a pioneering this bitch.
- 24:42Speaker 3: I was hoping that. Yeah, that's fucking fire.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Bro.
- 24:45Speaker 1: What's your h So you kind of came through the
- 24:48Speaker 1: halls of barstool. What's your perception of what you've seen
- 24:52Speaker 1: as far as uh, your perception from the outside, because
- 24:55Speaker 1: you had hilarious bars in the battle, and I think
- 24:58Speaker 1: people were waiting for like this sport boy, like you're
- 25:01Speaker 1: just stuck off.
- 25:02Speaker 3: The funny thing.
- 25:03Speaker 5: About that whole ship is like, okay, you know the
- 25:06Speaker 5: clip of that Portnoy thing and stop Asian hate, Black
- 25:11Speaker 5: Lives Matter, like it's it went viral and under the
- 25:14Speaker 5: every day there's a fucking race.
- 25:16Speaker 3: War going on under that ship, I know, And it's
- 25:18Speaker 3: like and the funny thing is it's I love it.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I can't, like of course, like I care for
- 25:23Speaker 5: the causes, like a Black Lives Matter to stop Asian hate.
- 25:26Speaker 5: But the biggest thing is like the rhymes worked great,
- 25:29Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So that's what I'm thinking
- 25:32Speaker 5: about while every day under the comments everyone is fighting
- 25:36Speaker 5: each other. Under there, you know, and I'm just like, uh,
- 25:39Speaker 5: it's a great rhyme scheme.
- 25:41Speaker 7: You know.
- 25:41Speaker 1: That's why I had Japanese breakfast with Applebee's section like it,
- 25:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 25:46Speaker 3: That's the funny thing about it.
- 25:48Speaker 5: It's like, yes, of course, the like we all believe
- 25:51Speaker 5: like we should all get along, you know, But it's
- 25:53Speaker 5: like the most important is like the rhymes matter.
- 25:57Speaker 1: You know, you'll have no idea that you're like saying
- 26:00Speaker 1: stuff because it rhymes as opposed to like, this is
- 26:02Speaker 1: the exact word I had to choose right here because
- 26:05Speaker 1: it like represents like what I feel so deep down.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I know, man, I feel bad people were just too
- 26:10Speaker 5: consumed with like being in that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I don't feel bad. That conversation is so good for
- 26:14Speaker 1: It's great for the algorithm. It is good for that
- 26:16Speaker 1: comment comment comment bro. Fucking that you can't buy comments
- 26:19Speaker 1: like that.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah no, It's just like I just feel bad
- 26:22Speaker 5: sometimes that they're just checking in every day while I'm
- 26:25Speaker 5: just having my coffee and you know, just.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Going up going about my day. Bro.
- 26:29Speaker 1: They're the same thing under the like, uh, when I'm
- 26:31Speaker 1: like the like the real minority hears me like that,
- 26:36Speaker 1: there's every day there's like you are people are just
- 26:38Speaker 1: arguing it. It's like, dude, like I was saying that jokingly.
- 26:42Speaker 3: But I guess that's the whole point.
- 26:43Speaker 5: It's like you want that to spend and you want
- 26:45Speaker 5: people to have conversations under it, you know.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's part of it. But back to just as
- 26:51Speaker 1: you walk into barstool and you kind of like describe
- 26:54Speaker 1: describe it in the because you're you're pretty concise and
- 26:57Speaker 1: if you need to, you know what I mean, roasted
- 26:59Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 26:59Speaker 5: No, No, I would say you guys are hoarders. There's
- 27:03Speaker 5: a lot of ship, a lot of stuff.
- 27:05Speaker 3: It's insane.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Yeah, But to be fair, like I'm somewhat of like
- 27:10Speaker 5: a horror collector, you know, I love just collecting.
- 27:13Speaker 1: That's probably intentional thought. It just like an unintentional collection,
- 27:18Speaker 1: right right, But I love having like little toys and
- 27:20Speaker 1: action figures things like that, arounds and ship.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that kind of ship. But it's it's excessive.
- 27:26Speaker 3: It's a lot of ship really much.
- 27:28Speaker 1: There's a lot of people should have be limited to
- 27:31Speaker 1: like types of flairs that they can have on your
- 27:33Speaker 1: on your desk.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, there's it is insane. I mean, but
- 27:37Speaker 5: it seems like you guys are just a content kind
- 27:40Speaker 5: of machine.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of studios and sets and stuff.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and and the most like you know, like creator
- 27:47Speaker 5: types that I've run into, like they're messy, you know.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I think they said that in a study or.
- 27:53Speaker 5: Something like creators and creative people tend to just be
- 27:56Speaker 5: more messier.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah, probably like a clutter mind like has just like
- 28:01Speaker 1: a lot going on, Like there's just like this over here.
- 28:04Speaker 1: You can kind of like focus hyperactively on something and
- 28:06Speaker 1: then we.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Don't prioritize like folding up clothes and shit, Like I
- 28:11Speaker 5: don't hang up a lot of shit at all, like
- 28:12Speaker 5: in my house, you know, it just all ends.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Up on totally. Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 1: And it's funny because like, uh, going to like you have,
- 28:20Speaker 1: like you said, a lot of like famous friends, like
- 28:21Speaker 1: going sometimes going to really successful people's houses, it's like, uh,
- 28:26Speaker 1: it's like looks shitty. It's like all like shit's all
- 28:29Speaker 1: over the place, or like some rooms like no one
- 28:32Speaker 1: goes in and there's like no furniture and shit like that,
- 28:34Speaker 1: or like threeadn't like using like empty pizza boxes like
- 28:38Speaker 1: a table.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Like on.
- 28:40Speaker 5: No for sure, for sure, I mean my house is yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 5: it's a mess. I still like kind of have my
- 28:47Speaker 5: suitcase with the clothes that I packed for a trip,
- 28:49Speaker 5: and I just get stuff out of there. I don't
- 28:51Speaker 5: hang it up because you might go on another trip,
- 28:53Speaker 5: Like you travel a lot too.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Right for work, I don't even I still have like
- 28:57Speaker 1: suitcases from last week that I just haven't open. It's
- 28:59Speaker 1: like I have no idea what I'm going to but
- 29:01Speaker 1: I don't even want to like attack that right now.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Do you like traveling?
- 29:05Speaker 5: Uh?
- 29:05Speaker 1: I do like traveling. Yeah, it uh scratches an itch
- 29:09Speaker 1: for me. I just like to see different ship every day.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Like if I see the same shit every day, I
- 29:14Speaker 1: kind of get like a little bit restless.
- 29:16Speaker 3: How do you like living in like New York? I
- 29:18Speaker 3: like it.
- 29:19Speaker 1: It charges me up, like people being around charges me up.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I think a lot of this office is going to
- 29:24Speaker 1: Chicago because they're like, fuck New York. I don't like
- 29:27Speaker 1: New York, but like I enjoy riding like the subway
- 29:30Speaker 1: and like like fucking rushing up the stairs. I'm like this,
- 29:33Speaker 1: like it's like a person a person competitiveness where I'm like,
- 29:36Speaker 1: let's sucking go.
- 29:37Speaker 3: How about La? What are your thoughts of La? Not
- 29:40Speaker 3: a fan. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 29:44Speaker 5: It's interesting because my friend Wreck, he's from New York,
- 29:47Speaker 5: he lived in he's lived in LA for the last
- 29:49Speaker 5: like four or five years, and he doesn't even want
- 29:52Speaker 5: to come back here. He just loves you raised hero
- 29:54Speaker 5: his whole life, you know, really, he just loves l A.
- 29:56Speaker 5: He's like, it's comfortable. He's like, I hate and I
- 29:58Speaker 5: hated it taking the subway and all this shit. You know,
- 30:01Speaker 5: it's for some people, you know, it's like that. But
- 30:04Speaker 5: also a lot of New Yorkers in LA, they can't.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Get used to it. They're like, I still love the city.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I get it. New York's an amazing city. There's nothing
- 30:10Speaker 3: like it in the world for sure. You know, what's
- 30:12Speaker 3: your per You still like living in LA. Obviously you've
- 30:14Speaker 3: been in Have you lived in Koreatown? Yeah, my whole life. Yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 3: and LA.
- 30:18Speaker 5: I'm just like really immersed in LA culture. But I'm
- 30:22Speaker 5: just it's it's comfortable to get around, it's nice weather,
- 30:25Speaker 5: like I don't have to, you know, dress up throughout
- 30:29Speaker 5: the day. I think that's why mad people just wear
- 30:31Speaker 5: fitness shit throughout the whole fucking day until like nighttime
- 30:34Speaker 5: where they have to.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Go to a bar look presentable like over a here.
- 30:38Speaker 5: It's tough because like you're going to run into like
- 30:40Speaker 5: a thousand people a day, so you probably should put
- 30:42Speaker 5: yourself together a little bit, you know.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It's like I'm riding the subway with everybody like there's
- 30:47Speaker 1: like it's people are having little fit wars.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Dude, Oh my god.
- 30:50Speaker 5: But the drip is incredible, Like everyone out here is
- 30:53Speaker 5: dressed really well.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Wait, I still as we were going around the Barseol office,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I wanted to get your impression of like the way
- 30:58Speaker 1: that the people around here it's in barstool.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I didn't really get a glance at that, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 3: but I did.
- 31:05Speaker 5: It does seem like an environment where people are just
- 31:07Speaker 5: like in front of the computers editing for fucking hours
- 31:09Speaker 5: and ship so it's gonna be a little shitty.
- 31:12Speaker 3: A lot of basketball shorts and like free T shirts. Yeah, yeah, No,
- 31:16Speaker 3: it felt like.
- 31:17Speaker 5: A white people sweatshop. That's that's how I would describe it,
- 31:22Speaker 5: you know what I mean, like like what you would
- 31:24Speaker 5: imagine like a Chinese sweatshop in Asia, but a white
- 31:29Speaker 5: people sweatshop is how I'd explain Barstool.
- 31:32Speaker 3: And they're like cranking out like hopefully viral content. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 3: that's what.
- 31:36Speaker 1: But some rooms no windows, like fake windows, but they're
- 31:39Speaker 1: like sticks instead.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Of like making up on the iPhones, it's like editing
- 31:43Speaker 5: sports content.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Editing to make it vertical. Yeah, yeah, that's scroll through
- 31:50Speaker 1: on the ship.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, it is.
- 31:52Speaker 1: It's a very it's an interesting place to work, bro,
- 31:55Speaker 1: it's a it's a very fun place to work. But uh,
- 32:00Speaker 1: I think a lot of people got sick of New York,
- 32:02Speaker 1: like the way Barstool like when it first got sold,
- 32:04Speaker 1: it blue up. Everybody had to come to New York.
- 32:06Speaker 1: And since then we've grown exponentially. But now like a
- 32:10Speaker 1: lot of people are going to be in Chicago. Some
- 32:11Speaker 1: people can kind of work remotely and they can, uh,
- 32:15Speaker 1: you know, explore different parts.
- 32:16Speaker 3: But I still like New York, dude, I still fuck
- 32:17Speaker 3: with New York.
- 32:18Speaker 5: I love New York, man, I love New York. Chicago
- 32:22Speaker 5: is cool, but it's not New York.
- 32:24Speaker 3: You know. I don't even know so much.
- 32:25Speaker 5: Going on what Chicago is fully like just day to
- 32:29Speaker 5: day life. Still Midwest. Yeah, it's different. I mean I
- 32:33Speaker 5: think it's cold as fuck for nine months of the year.
- 32:36Speaker 3: It's like bad. I can't that I mean, I guess
- 32:38Speaker 3: it's cool. You're Philly and shit too, I mean here, Yeah,
- 32:41Speaker 3: so that's same ship.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Would you ever live in a different city or are
- 32:44Speaker 1: you fucking Koreatown until you?
- 32:46Speaker 5: I mean, Koreatown is just La. You know, it's just
- 32:49Speaker 5: and it's a great part of La. It's central, you know.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Dude, let me list some of my problems with La.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'd love to hear it. I didn't have
- 32:56Speaker 1: a car. That shit sucked.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Yeah you can't. Yeah, that was terrible.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I was just taking ubers to work every day all all,
- 33:04Speaker 1: like the parties and shit like that seemed so inaccessible
- 33:07Speaker 1: to me. That's accessible, Like that shit just wasn't available
- 33:11Speaker 1: to me unless I was like sucking dick and networking, like.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Just being like what's like, Like, I feel.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Like it was like I had to be a fake
- 33:18Speaker 1: version of myself to have like even a shot at
- 33:21Speaker 1: like trying to be part of a quintessential like Hollywood
- 33:24Speaker 1: social scene.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't want to do any of that. You
- 33:26Speaker 3: want to be yourself? Yes you are all the time,
- 33:28Speaker 3: which I respect. You don't like the schmoozing of it all.
- 33:31Speaker 3: I was just it just didn't come that I don't know.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I feel like I do small talk well, but it
- 33:37Speaker 1: just made me feel a little bit weird. I don't know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: but I liked your like I feel like you're scene
- 33:40Speaker 1: of like everybody hanging out was like fired, Like that
- 33:43Speaker 1: was like more way more approachable. But it felt like
- 33:45Speaker 1: more of like a neighborhood like vibe, Like it's a
- 33:47Speaker 1: neighborhood spoty went.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Ka Town is like you know, they're like Asian like
- 33:55Speaker 5: Bostonians or something, you know, you know what I'm saying,
- 33:58Speaker 5: like what you would imagine local like Boston, yet kind
- 34:01Speaker 5: of like to other Asians, you know what I mean.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Like, but it's just like that's what I compare it to.
- 34:06Speaker 5: It's like that local vibe, you know, like Boston has
- 34:09Speaker 5: with their you know how Boston types all the stereotypes.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Is kind of like that, but like the Asian version.
- 34:15Speaker 9: Because golf season is in full swing and getting out
- 34:17Speaker 9: there to work on your game is bound to make
- 34:19Speaker 9: any day even better. And if you're looking to improve
- 34:23Speaker 9: your drive, Chevy Equinox EV is the smartest choice you
- 34:27Speaker 9: can make. Bold athletic styling, a commanding presence, award winning tech,
- 34:32Speaker 9: an impressive range, all with an affordable MSRP, Chevy Equinox
- 34:37Speaker 9: EV will put a smile on your face no matter
- 34:39Speaker 9: how your scorecard shakes out.
- 34:40Speaker 5: You have a neighborhood where it's like predominantly Korean's, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 5: or other Asians, and you know that's not the place
- 34:47Speaker 5: like we're fish out of water getting called like shank
- 34:51Speaker 5: or goog Like no, you'll get like stumped out, you
- 34:53Speaker 5: know what I'm saying for doing some shit like that.
- 34:55Speaker 5: So there is like a level of like they're wearing
- 34:58Speaker 5: the culture on your sleeve there, you know, and the
- 35:00Speaker 5: they're comfortable in their neighborhood. Their signs only in Korean,
- 35:03Speaker 5: you know, it's like that's di vide.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's insular. It's like it's safe in a way,
- 35:09Speaker 3: like it's your own safety, it is.
- 35:10Speaker 5: And also like Korean culture ended up thriving on an
- 35:14Speaker 5: international level, so it's like less businesses get gentrified. It
- 35:18Speaker 5: was a sweet grain in Koreatown that opened up two
- 35:20Speaker 5: years ago. They just shut down because they couldn't last.
- 35:23Speaker 5: They were a sweet green wasn't lasting, you know what
- 35:25Speaker 5: I mean.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Damn, bro, I've never seen I never heard of a
- 35:28Speaker 1: sweet green, and I was so pissed because I frequent
- 35:31Speaker 1: the Sweet Grain.
- 35:31Speaker 3: I'm like helping out.
- 35:33Speaker 5: I'm not helping out the places that are gentrifying, but
- 35:35Speaker 5: I was like on my health kick and it's like
- 35:37Speaker 5: the only salad spot in Korea Town. So I'm going
- 35:40Speaker 5: to Sweet Green and going to the Blue Bottle next door.
- 35:43Speaker 5: I'm like wearing a hoodie just to make sure no
- 35:45Speaker 5: one sees me.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Who is that? You didn't see me here? You didn't
- 35:50Speaker 3: see me here? But my god.
- 35:53Speaker 5: But yeah, they shut down because they just couldn't last
- 35:55Speaker 5: because all the Korean businesses, you know, they're thriving and
- 35:58Speaker 5: people want to go to Korean restaurants.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Sweet Green in Ktown, you know, is karaoke Korean thing.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Karaoke originally is from Japan Japanese, but yeah, in k Town, that's.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Part of the the things to do in the night life.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Like you hit a soju bar restaurant and he ended
- 36:16Speaker 5: in karaoke. You know.
- 36:17Speaker 1: It was like I feel like it was places that
- 36:20Speaker 1: that I would go to that were just like, uh,
- 36:22Speaker 1: it was like a Texas roadhouse it looked like, but
- 36:24Speaker 1: people were just singing karaoke like fully well lit.
- 36:26Speaker 3: But it's just like part of a lot of it's
- 36:28Speaker 3: that's the difference.
- 36:29Speaker 5: It's like there's white people karaoke and there's Asian karaoke.
- 36:33Speaker 3: You know the difference.
- 36:34Speaker 5: Like white people karaoke, you go to a full on bar,
- 36:38Speaker 5: it's open, it's not private rooms, and you sign up
- 36:41Speaker 5: and you singing in front of everybody. Asian karaoke is
- 36:44Speaker 5: you get there's twelve private.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Rooms and you have to get That's what I'm saying. Yah, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 3: those are the differences. You know, like Asian that is
- 36:53Speaker 3: better to do it with your friends.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Asian people are not going to sign up open mic
- 36:58Speaker 5: sheet and go up and sing to the old restaurant.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Boy's like hell no, bro as hell yeah nah, They're
- 37:05Speaker 5: not doing that shit.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Damn dude.
- 37:07Speaker 1: But you even the fact that you're going on going
- 37:09Speaker 1: to Sweet Green and stuff like that is kind of
- 37:11Speaker 1: emblematic of this health journey you've been on. And I
- 37:16Speaker 1: was even like, as I'm preparing for this battle, I'm like,
- 37:19Speaker 1: how can I make fun of him for being healthy?
- 37:22Speaker 3: You know what I mean? And I really I don't
- 37:24Speaker 3: even think I did. I don't think I landed on
- 37:27Speaker 3: like a good way to Like I mean, it's.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Hard because people are you know, if you're trying to
- 37:31Speaker 5: get healthy. Like when you know, my friends try to
- 37:33Speaker 5: roast me all the time because they're not They're still
- 37:35Speaker 5: drinking and partying and they want to eat whatever, which
- 37:39Speaker 5: is fine, but when they try to roast me, like
- 37:40Speaker 5: I don't feel shitty about it, Like I feel great, you.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Know what I mean, You're glowing.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I've been sober for six months now,
- 37:47Speaker 5: you know, Like there's a lot of shit I've changed
- 37:50Speaker 5: in my life.
- 37:51Speaker 1: It was right when the battle got announced that I
- 37:53Speaker 1: think you started getting sober, and I was like, uh, oh,
- 37:58Speaker 1: his brain, his brain's going to be on a whole
- 38:00Speaker 1: other level, dude, he's gonna have he just cleared out
- 38:03Speaker 1: the top like twenty five percent of his brain.
- 38:05Speaker 3: He's about to be optimized.
- 38:07Speaker 5: There is a feeling of like my brain healing a
- 38:10Speaker 5: little bit, you know, because like just drinking and doing
- 38:13Speaker 5: drugs since I was really young, I've got gotten used
- 38:19Speaker 5: to this lifestyle. And then like I don't know, there
- 38:22Speaker 5: is this feeling. I feel a little sense of clarity,
- 38:25Speaker 5: you know. And my town is like where I'm from,
- 38:29Speaker 5: my neighborhood is like we's what we're known for. We're
- 38:31Speaker 5: known for, like the nightlife, of it all drinking and
- 38:34Speaker 5: partying and all that.
- 38:35Speaker 3: So it was like a tough kind of switch to
- 38:39Speaker 3: turn off.
- 38:40Speaker 1: But what pushed you towards it was was there like
- 38:44Speaker 1: an event or where you were just like feeling because
- 38:46Speaker 1: I know you were.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Like running for years before that, like you were like
- 38:49Speaker 3: a running club and.
- 38:50Speaker 5: So slowly slow like yeah, it's like I was slowly
- 38:53Speaker 5: slowly making changes to like my lifestyle with exercise and stuff.
- 38:56Speaker 3: To remove a bad habit put in a good habit. Yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 3: it was. It was a lot like I was.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Drinking led to a lot of drugs for me, So
- 39:04Speaker 5: cutting out that is a huge thing for me for
- 39:06Speaker 5: a lot of different things, you know, because that's what
- 39:09Speaker 5: it is. My favorite cocktail was just alcohol and drugs.
- 39:14Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 39:15Speaker 5: If not, it's not like a vodka, soda, whiskey and jack,
- 39:19Speaker 5: jack and coke.
- 39:20Speaker 3: It was jack and coke. It was jack and coke. Yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 5: So yeah, and I think those a I didn't like
- 39:29Speaker 5: what I was turning into. You know, I get sucked
- 39:31Speaker 5: up on some ship. I'm screaming in somebody's face about
- 39:35Speaker 5: the Asian plate.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Just an Asian or non Asian both, you know. Actually
- 39:41Speaker 3: more Asians.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Yeah, but I think that was a part of me
- 39:46Speaker 5: that I just didn't like. I was getting this glaze
- 39:48Speaker 5: in my eyes and you know, just I don't know,
- 39:51Speaker 5: I just didn't like what was becoming.
- 39:53Speaker 1: You also kind of lived a lifestyle that you're like, like,
- 39:57Speaker 1: you're creative and you probably you didn't probably have to
- 40:00Speaker 1: get up for a nine to five job, like where
- 40:03Speaker 1: you're like I had to do this, Like you probably
- 40:05Speaker 1: had the availability to party a lot of nights.
- 40:08Speaker 5: I think my thing was like I was able to
- 40:12Speaker 5: do make a living off of what I love at
- 40:15Speaker 5: a very young age. So there is this kind of
- 40:17Speaker 5: like child star element. I wasn't like a huge child star,
- 40:20Speaker 5: but like by nineteen I was able to tour and
- 40:23Speaker 5: make money.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Off of people knew who you were.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Music and locally, yeah, k town, I go out, I'm
- 40:27Speaker 5: getting free drinks weed at a young age and drugs,
- 40:31Speaker 5: and you know, I'm like, oh it's lit.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I'm free styling for coke at nineteen.
- 40:35Speaker 5: You know, like some like rich kid comes by and
- 40:38Speaker 5: he's just like chopping it up while he's like dance,
- 40:41Speaker 5: just wrapping my ass off.
- 40:43Speaker 1: You know.
- 40:43Speaker 3: It's sick though.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Yeah, So it was fun and I wouldn't say I
- 40:48Speaker 5: was very functional too. You know, I wasn't like rock Bottom.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I was still able to do that and tour and
- 40:53Speaker 5: all that. But I still think I wasn't able to
- 40:56Speaker 5: reach my full you know, potential at that age. And
- 41:00Speaker 5: I had opportunities, and I think I got kind of
- 41:02Speaker 5: sucked into the hometown love of it all. And and
- 41:06Speaker 5: if K Town showing me love and I was like
- 41:09Speaker 5: happy with that.
- 41:10Speaker 1: You're describing it as Boston completely, like uh, contextualizes it
- 41:14Speaker 1: for me.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Is that like the kid from fucking Yeah, like the
- 41:17Speaker 3: kid this kid's fucking shit, That's what I'm saying. We
- 41:20Speaker 3: go out to hear in freestyle.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And and that's not what I started. I always
- 41:24Speaker 5: wanted to. I had bigger dreams, you know. I want
- 41:27Speaker 5: to be on television and do all these bigger projects.
- 41:30Speaker 5: And I'm coming back now now, I'm ready to do
- 41:34Speaker 5: it all.
- 41:34Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. But I got sucked into
- 41:37Speaker 3: the hometown ship for a while.
- 41:40Speaker 1: But I mean, it's not like you haven't been on
- 41:42Speaker 1: TV to one of my favorite TV shows that you
- 41:44Speaker 1: were on, or I don't know if it even counts
- 41:46Speaker 1: as a TV show. But I think I watched almost
- 41:48Speaker 1: every episode of that fucking Roasting the Roast.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Me.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I love that show. Was so fucking funny, bro,
- 41:55Speaker 5: me to, I agree. I watched that shit all the time.
- 41:58Speaker 3: He was like, Who's Who's like the fucking like Craigsith,
- 42:02Speaker 3: Craig's Craigsmith.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Craig Smith is maybe why have I never heard of
- 42:06Speaker 1: him outside of that show?
- 42:07Speaker 3: That's his ship, you know what I mean, Like that's
- 42:09Speaker 3: what he does. It was perfect, Yeah, it's.
- 42:12Speaker 5: I don't think that's outside of that. I don't think
- 42:15Speaker 5: he's as big, you know. I think he does stand
- 42:16Speaker 5: up and all that, but like that's his shit. You know,
- 42:20Speaker 5: like battle rap or something, and people might not know
- 42:23Speaker 5: these battle rappers for music or whatever, but the goats, like,
- 42:26Speaker 5: you know, they do this, and Craig is like the goat.
- 42:30Speaker 1: He's one of the funniest. He'll just be like on
- 42:32Speaker 1: some crazy shit, he'll be like you look.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Like your next thing.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Ah, Like he'll start laughing at his own ship and
- 42:37Speaker 1: it makes him funnier.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Bro.
- 42:38Speaker 1: But he was just like a genius level roaster. I've
- 42:41Speaker 1: never seen anything like.
- 42:42Speaker 3: It was the funniest shit.
- 42:43Speaker 5: He was one Like we were in one of those
- 42:45Speaker 5: sessions and he just started going down a row just
- 42:48Speaker 5: roasting everybody quickly with one thing.
- 42:50Speaker 3: And he got to me.
- 42:50Speaker 5: He was like, your mama killed somebody in the riots
- 42:53Speaker 5: and it was just like the funniest shit ever.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Bro.
- 42:57Speaker 3: What was that show? Where? How did it?
- 42:59Speaker 6: What?
- 42:59Speaker 3: What?
- 43:00Speaker 4: Like?
- 43:00Speaker 3: What a channel or even was that on?
- 43:02Speaker 5: It was on all deaf Digital like Russell Simmons like
- 43:05Speaker 5: digital platform with when def Ham like he split from
- 43:08Speaker 5: deaf Sham or whatnot.
- 43:09Speaker 1: And I remember whoever came up with that programming was
- 43:13Speaker 1: definitely super creative.
- 43:14Speaker 5: Man.
- 43:14Speaker 3: I was watching that and that's how I ended up
- 43:16Speaker 3: on the show.
- 43:16Speaker 5: I was watching the show weekly like I loved it,
- 43:19Speaker 5: you know, and then one of my boys like was
- 43:21Speaker 5: a producer on it, so I just like messaged him.
- 43:24Speaker 5: I was like, Yo, let me get on this please,
- 43:25Speaker 5: because I love roasting, you know, and I wanted it totally.
- 43:28Speaker 1: That's one of the things that attracted me to try
- 43:30Speaker 1: to batter, Yeah, because you just asked your style.
- 43:33Speaker 5: But you get on that and like these dudes, man,
- 43:37Speaker 5: their next level. For every one roast I get, they
- 43:40Speaker 5: get ten, and you know what I mean, it's just
- 43:42Speaker 5: like so fast. I know, you know, I think with
- 43:44Speaker 5: black culture. It's like so much more embedded into your upbringing,
- 43:48Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So they're just like ten
- 43:51Speaker 5: twenty roasts for everyone. I'm just like processing, it's crazy.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it seemed like that world of entertainment was almost
- 43:58Speaker 1: like not a counter culture to the Wild and Out world,
- 44:03Speaker 1: but it seems like it's like they're kind of like analogous,
- 44:06Speaker 1: like kind of pushing towards the same type of thing.
- 44:08Speaker 3: I know that you had.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Like auditions or you were getting close to Wilden Out.
- 44:13Speaker 1: What's your kind of perception of how that was for you?
- 44:16Speaker 1: And how do you see the show in general?
- 44:18Speaker 5: I mean, I got so much respect for wild I'm out,
- 44:20Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And I think what Nick
- 44:23Speaker 5: Cannon has created with that, it's like this is embedded
- 44:25Speaker 5: into our culture now, you know what I mean. The
- 44:29Speaker 5: whole idea of him grabbing internet celebrities and comedians and
- 44:34Speaker 5: also throwing him into the mix of it all. I
- 44:37Speaker 5: think he really helped internet comedy thrive.
- 44:42Speaker 3: I feel totally me.
- 44:44Speaker 1: You agree, like pick guys up and it like really
- 44:46Speaker 1: gave where he was just so broad with his perception
- 44:50Speaker 1: of what like good was. You know what I mean
- 44:52Speaker 1: he grabbed people from so many different walks of life
- 44:55Speaker 1: and like going from like was Kevin harda cashmo I
- 44:58Speaker 1: think he was like part of that, like d ray
- 44:59Speaker 1: Day this apeon Crockett on Crockett, Cat Williams, like yes,
- 45:04Speaker 1: and that was like one class and then the next
- 45:06Speaker 1: class was like had like all these battle rappers, but
- 45:08Speaker 1: also like the dude, the dude who gets like eighty
- 45:12Speaker 1: million views on every one of his tiktoks, Matt Rife.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Matt Rfe, you know what I mean.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Now he's like the fucking biggest TikTok comedian and the
- 45:18Speaker 5: ship like.
- 45:19Speaker 1: He just was able to find so many or bro
- 45:22Speaker 1: eighty five South like DC Young Fly, like all those
- 45:25Speaker 1: dudes like massive superstars saying along with Hitman and conceited
- 45:29Speaker 1: in Charlotte, I got so much.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Respect, you know for what they do. You know what
- 45:33Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 45:34Speaker 5: I mean for Nick Cannon to like, I don't care
- 45:37Speaker 5: what anybody says. That shit is very culturally impactful.
- 45:41Speaker 1: But at the same time, didn't you not want to
- 45:43Speaker 1: do the show because they almost tried.
- 45:44Speaker 3: To over or like, no, I wanted to do it.
- 45:47Speaker 5: I auditioned and and Tim just got it over me.
- 45:50Speaker 5: You know, Tim Chalk dronsu A formerly known as Tim
- 45:54Speaker 5: Dela Ghetto. That's the Hammy. He's also internet og. But
- 45:57Speaker 5: it made more sense that he got it, to be honest, because.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Why was there a only one spot? Maybe at the
- 46:01Speaker 3: time it was more like one Asian can be the
- 46:04Speaker 3: you know what I mean? Or maybe I just underperformed.
- 46:06Speaker 5: But either way, it's like, I think there was a
- 46:09Speaker 5: time in entertainment where like they, you know, most producers
- 46:14Speaker 5: and stuff saw like one Asian person being in a thing.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Not anymore, maybe you know what I mean.
- 46:19Speaker 5: But like at the time, you know, yeah, yeah, that
- 46:25Speaker 5: has not but yeah I could see that, you know not.
- 46:29Speaker 5: But me and Tim are like two different types of
- 46:31Speaker 5: Asians too, so we could totally be on the same thing.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Yeah what dude, you definitely could.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in a whole different world.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I think that you probably got a similar call that
- 46:40Speaker 1: I did last week from.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Like New York magazine. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, did you
- 46:48Speaker 3: talk to J Yeah J Caspian. Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 1: J Caspian did a piece on barstool and then he
- 46:55Speaker 1: hit me up last week and he wanted to talk
- 46:58Speaker 1: about battle.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Rap and like, uh or what was what was kind
- 47:02Speaker 3: of his pitch to you? What was that? What was
- 47:03Speaker 3: the way that he presented it to you?
- 47:04Speaker 5: He and by the way he was, he's a like
- 47:08Speaker 5: a legit, legit writer. I've been following you stuff for
- 47:10Speaker 5: a while long.
- 47:11Speaker 3: Massive.
- 47:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it was for just for the New York I think,
- 47:15Speaker 5: right or something, Yeah, New York. And his whole thing
- 47:17Speaker 5: was talking about how battle rap is one of the
- 47:19Speaker 5: last arenas where you got to be politically correct, and
- 47:24Speaker 5: I've been thinking about that. You don't have to be
- 47:26Speaker 5: you don't have to be politically I'm sorry, and and
- 47:30Speaker 5: like no one's getting like canceled or anything like that, but.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Don't your breath. Uh, one day all this it will service. Nah,
- 47:41Speaker 1: but you get to any Disney movies.
- 47:43Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. But I've been I've been thinking about that too.
- 47:47Speaker 5: What he the I guess his thought process with this
- 47:49Speaker 5: whole thing, And yeah, that's what we were talking about.
- 47:52Speaker 5: We were just talking about how race is brought up
- 47:54Speaker 5: and how you handle that. And I mentioned the same
- 47:57Speaker 5: thing about like the earlier with my rhymes and all
- 48:00Speaker 5: the race war that's going on, Like we're thinking about,
- 48:03Speaker 5: you know, the sport and the craft of it all.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Yeah, what I'm saying and to fit in this like
- 48:09Speaker 3: equation we're trying to make.
- 48:10Speaker 5: And it reminded me of like this interview that I
- 48:13Speaker 5: saw Dave Chappelle. Dude, he was talking about when Kramer
- 48:18Speaker 5: went at the Laugh Factory and he dropped the end
- 48:20Speaker 5: bomb on stage and do you remember this, of course, yeah, yeah,
- 48:23Speaker 5: And he said that when he saw Kramer do that set,
- 48:28Speaker 5: that's when he knew that he was eighty percent black
- 48:31Speaker 5: and eight percent comedian in twenty percent black, because instead
- 48:36Speaker 5: of him being offended by the end bomb being dropped,
- 48:38Speaker 5: he was.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Like, dudes having a bad set.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Bom bomb bomb, Yeah, exactly, he's bombing. And I was like,
- 48:46Speaker 5: that's interesting because there's a lot of times I feel
- 48:49Speaker 5: that way in the battles that I'm in, you know
- 48:51Speaker 5: what I'm saying, because I could also appreciate a great
- 48:54Speaker 5: like racist joke against me when the when the rhyme
- 48:58Speaker 5: is like overpower the racistness, you know. Yeah, like one
- 49:02Speaker 5: of the funniest jokes that I'll say, you know, maybe
- 49:04Speaker 5: a Asian motherfucker's gonna start getting mad at me right now.
- 49:07Speaker 5: But one of the funniest things was when Kit Twists
- 49:09Speaker 5: was I was battling kid twists, and he said something
- 49:12Speaker 5: along the lines of like, it's funny you're an Asian
- 49:15Speaker 5: rapper but can't make tracks, just referring to like Chinese
- 49:20Speaker 5: building a railroadslaved and it was like the most clever, funny,
- 49:25Speaker 5: like simple ass lines, you know what I mean?
- 49:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so clean, And I was like, that's funny. You know.
- 49:31Speaker 1: That's what I mean when I talk about your economy
- 49:34Speaker 1: of language, like I feel like you make the joke
- 49:36Speaker 1: in the fewest amount of words possible, or like you
- 49:40Speaker 1: just go rhyme scheme to rhyme scheme, and it's just
- 49:42Speaker 1: like it's very uh clean, and you just don't like
- 49:45Speaker 1: no waste of movement, no waste of words, like no
- 49:48Speaker 1: real show voting.
- 49:48Speaker 3: It's just very succinct.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And I think that's probably why you also have success
- 49:52Speaker 1: doing stand up, because you have to write succinct jokes
- 49:56Speaker 1: when you're doing that.
- 49:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean there's a little bit
- 49:58Speaker 5: of laziness attached to that, do you know what I mean?
- 50:00Speaker 5: Because you're, on the other hand, you're like putting in
- 50:03Speaker 5: like for rhyme schemes more than I am in between,
- 50:07Speaker 5: you know, But I think it's also like kind of that.
- 50:10Speaker 5: It's always been kind of my style in general. Yeah,
- 50:13Speaker 5: but yeah, I think there's something about when something rhyme's
- 50:18Speaker 5: so good, you don't need any extras on that. Yes,
- 50:21Speaker 5: you know, like when I was like Chad she Beat
- 50:23Speaker 5: the Smack DVD.
- 50:24Speaker 1: That I was like, when I heard that rhyme scheme,
- 50:27Speaker 1: it just went so yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 50:28Speaker 5: So it's like portnoy sports Boy, George Floyd, You're like,
- 50:32Speaker 5: you don't need anything.
- 50:33Speaker 3: I barely even squeezed in Sports Boy.
- 50:35Speaker 5: I was like, I don't need this, but then I
- 50:37Speaker 5: put it in and actually people loved it, you know,
- 50:40Speaker 5: but like, what else do you need when you got
- 50:42Speaker 5: that fucking perfect joint?
- 50:44Speaker 3: Oh? You know, it's like it lines up perfectly.
- 50:48Speaker 1: But back to the Jay Caspian thing, Like when I
- 50:50Speaker 1: talked to him, he was like, uh, it was almost
- 50:53Speaker 1: me referencing when I was like I went through and
- 50:55Speaker 1: I was like, you did like this stereotype or that's stereotype,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and I thought that she was beauty and it was
- 51:01Speaker 1: I think it's coming from a place of like wanting
- 51:05Speaker 1: to like be able to make fun of each other
- 51:09Speaker 1: in like from a place of like, uh, acceptance and
- 51:12Speaker 1: mutual roasting the way that like the way that on
- 51:16Speaker 1: like the show, you know what I mean, Like like
- 51:17Speaker 1: the way with like Craigsmith and everything like that is
- 51:20Speaker 1: just like mutual roasting where like everybody's laughing, you know
- 51:24Speaker 1: what I mean, Like it's fun and show like that
- 51:26Speaker 1: and you're just like snapping on each other.
- 51:28Speaker 3: I don't.
- 51:28Speaker 5: I didn't feel offended or nothing. Like most of my battles,
- 51:33Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. I appreciate the craft and
- 51:36Speaker 5: what it is. Like I battled, we talked. You talked
- 51:38Speaker 5: about this in your round against me, Like I battled
- 51:41Speaker 5: an Asian dude, you know what I'm saying, and I
- 51:43Speaker 5: went in on him about stuff. But the cool thing
- 51:46Speaker 5: is is like when you battle certain cultures and you
- 51:49Speaker 5: are really familiar with it, like you might when you
- 51:51Speaker 5: use like crying and h smart and stuff like that
- 51:54Speaker 5: stuff means something because you can go into the nuanced
- 51:57Speaker 5: lines of things.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Of certain cultures totally. And I think that's amazing.
- 52:01Speaker 5: And the only people who are able to, like we
- 52:04Speaker 5: have an opportunity to do that, Like there hasn't been
- 52:07Speaker 5: a lot of Asian battle rappers in the last ten
- 52:09Speaker 5: years twenty and fifteen years totally. So I'm sure you
- 52:13Speaker 5: were also in a position like, oh yeah, I get
- 52:15Speaker 5: an Asian dude.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I do right to archetypes.
- 52:18Speaker 6: Bro.
- 52:19Speaker 3: I really just like, oh you're fat.
- 52:21Speaker 5: It's like I'm on your I mean, think about like
- 52:23Speaker 5: my last all my battles in my career, it was
- 52:25Speaker 5: like tantrum Asian dude, illusion z, Latino dude flo like
- 52:31Speaker 5: fat black dude, pH one, older dude, rest in peace,
- 52:34Speaker 5: you older guy. So I was able to sure that
- 52:37Speaker 5: the Middle Eastern. Yeah, so I had like a little
- 52:40Speaker 5: that's how I choose my battles, you know what I mean.
- 52:42Speaker 5: I had a little roller decks.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I remember You've always said to me, you're like, dude
- 52:45Speaker 1: white just like plain old white guys do give me trouble.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Something about these plain old and gives me more trouble
- 52:52Speaker 3: than a plane old white guy. I'll tell you that,
- 52:55Speaker 3: Oh may be something bro like b be gay or something.
- 52:57Speaker 5: Bro. I knew that was a I knew that was
- 53:00Speaker 5: going to be a dangerous, uh you know battle. So
- 53:02Speaker 5: it was a little bit. I was a little bit
- 53:04Speaker 5: nervous going into the thing. So I had to approach
- 53:08Speaker 5: it in a certain thing. So I think people in
- 53:10Speaker 5: the comments will start going at me about the big
- 53:13Speaker 5: thing is like, oh, this woke guy. I promise you
- 53:16Speaker 5: I'm not as woke as you think I am, but
- 53:20Speaker 5: I have to have an angle.
- 53:22Speaker 3: I mean, what the fuck you want me to do?
- 53:25Speaker 1: People are like George Floyd didn't actually like like trying
- 53:28Speaker 1: to like just like details of the George Floyd.
- 53:32Speaker 5: It doesn't like just being like I'm a white guy
- 53:35Speaker 5: doesn't hit as hard anymore.
- 53:37Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. It's like, yeah, you're a
- 53:39Speaker 3: virgin to me, I'm a white guy.
- 53:40Speaker 5: Like that even for comedians when they try to impersonate
- 53:44Speaker 5: a white guy doesn't.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Hit no more. You know you need the extra like this,
- 53:49Speaker 3: like no one's doing that no more. You know you
- 53:51Speaker 3: need the extra twist.
- 53:52Speaker 1: But I also like appreciate that you look for something
- 53:55Speaker 1: like that because it's like plays into your overarching goal
- 53:59Speaker 1: of making the back accessible to people. Like you don't
- 54:02Speaker 1: get like fucking like millions of views on something from
- 54:05Speaker 1: like being like this time you did this, and like
- 54:08Speaker 1: have like four bars of exposition so you can start
- 54:11Speaker 1: making jokes. It's like you're joking about something that people
- 54:13Speaker 1: can't appreciate, but you're doing it in a nuanced way.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 54:17Speaker 5: I mean I think it's it's like it's clear like
- 54:21Speaker 5: you work at barstool, like I got to mention barstool,
- 54:24Speaker 5: you know, and and sports. I'm not even a huge
- 54:27Speaker 5: sports head like that, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 54:29Speaker 5: I have to do research on sports.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Watching sports, but I was watching your podcast like I
- 54:37Speaker 1: was about to like start making fun of like your
- 54:40Speaker 1: like relationships, like I see you with how you speak
- 54:43Speaker 1: to the people like your closest friends like they're but I.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Was like, brot.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I appreciate that though, Like I was like trying to
- 54:49Speaker 1: do research, but it's like, man, I'm just gonna keep
- 54:51Speaker 1: it more of at like a surface, more fun love
- 54:53Speaker 1: and level.
- 54:54Speaker 3: But I will say, dude, I think you got me.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Shut the fuck up, man, I think you got me, bro.
- 54:59Speaker 1: And I think it's because, like I know how it
- 55:01Speaker 1: feels like when you when you win win, and it's
- 55:04Speaker 1: like I didn't really have that feeling. I did.
- 55:07Speaker 3: To be honest, I didn't have it either.
- 55:08Speaker 5: I think that's the thing, Like we got really close,
- 55:12Speaker 5: but I don't think there's any there was no clear
- 55:14Speaker 5: like if I felt like I won, i'd be like
- 55:16Speaker 5: I would here fucking bragging about it all the time,
- 55:19Speaker 5: but I don't feel like that.
- 55:22Speaker 3: And it's weird.
- 55:24Speaker 5: There was a time, like I think even in the battle,
- 55:26Speaker 5: when I heard your first round, maybe I felt a
- 55:29Speaker 5: little more comfortable, but then I think you're second and third,
- 55:32Speaker 5: Like it was like okay, now I'm like okay, a
- 55:34Speaker 5: little shook, you know, So there was a shift, you
- 55:36Speaker 5: know what I mean, Like I think there's a little
- 55:38Speaker 5: bit of I don't know, like no one was like
- 55:43Speaker 5: had the knock the knockout.
- 55:45Speaker 3: No one has the knockout. Yeah, yeah, And I think.
- 55:48Speaker 1: It's cause, like I think it was probably some of
- 55:51Speaker 1: the circumstances like a charity event and shit like that.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Like, uh, Lucy's the obvious choice for a true nicotine
- 55:57Speaker 4: pouch connoisseurs. That's why the official nickotine partner of Barstools Sports.
- 56:01Speaker 4: They go up to twelve milligrams in strength and a
- 56:03Speaker 4: unique shape that feels great. We all use the breakers
- 56:06Speaker 4: that the only pouches with the hydration caps one side.
- 56:09Speaker 4: They're a totally new kind of pouch only available from Lucy.
- 56:12Speaker 4: You pop it in your mouth, break with your teeth
- 56:13Speaker 4: and it's instantly hydrated, releasing that nicotine faster and it's
- 56:17Speaker 4: a burst of flavor. No other pouch as that. I
- 56:19Speaker 4: promise you that gas station pouches get the job done.
- 56:21Speaker 4: But once you've tried Lucy, you won't want anything else
- 56:24Speaker 4: in your pocket.
- 56:26Speaker 3: And also, like I find it harder to.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Try to like like really like belittle someone to the
- 56:34Speaker 1: point of like them hating themselves and shit like that.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Like I don't really I like, like I don't know,
- 56:39Speaker 1: like if I'm a pussy now, yeah, but it's like
- 56:41Speaker 1: I like am so grateful for like the successes that
- 56:45Speaker 1: I've had that I don't even want to like, yeah,
- 56:48Speaker 1: what I mean, really, I don't know, do you you
- 56:49Speaker 1: just have resonate at all?
- 56:51Speaker 5: Or I think the A big thing is like we
- 56:54Speaker 5: had reached the level in culture. So if you're coming
- 56:58Speaker 5: at me as like Asian stuff, it's like hard because
- 57:02Speaker 5: the Asians are having like a huge.
- 57:03Speaker 3: Moment right here.
- 57:04Speaker 5: It's massive to be right, and it's like I'm coming
- 57:07Speaker 5: at you. It's like there's you know, everyone's hit the
- 57:10Speaker 5: white guy angle. So we got caught in this little
- 57:14Speaker 5: stalemate situation in culture, right people didn't want to hear
- 57:17Speaker 5: the shit they're yeah, like what it was hard, you
- 57:20Speaker 5: know what I mean?
- 57:21Speaker 1: It was it was especially like uh just like even
- 57:24Speaker 1: the nature of it. I was like trying to just
- 57:26Speaker 1: be like hahaha, like I didn't have a killer instinct.
- 57:29Speaker 1: And then so I want my boy Mike uh saw
- 57:32Speaker 1: in the battle and he like hit up my other
- 57:34Speaker 1: boy Mike, and he was like he told me this,
- 57:37Speaker 1: So that's how I know this dude's a real friend.
- 57:38Speaker 3: But he was like, bro, maybe Ron doesn't have it anymore.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Oh No, I was like, bro, but at least I
- 57:44Speaker 1: appreciate I appreciated this dude saying this so much to
- 57:48Speaker 1: me because it's like, all right, you're not saying it
- 57:49Speaker 1: behind my back, You're saying it to me. But I
- 57:52Speaker 1: also just I feel like I did it not I
- 57:54Speaker 1: don't believe that about myself at all. But I was
- 57:56Speaker 1: just like I don't feel like I was trying to
- 57:58Speaker 1: like take your head off. I was I'm trying to
- 58:00Speaker 1: like fill this like void. I'm trying to like right
- 58:04Speaker 1: to this like style.
- 58:05Speaker 2: No.
- 58:06Speaker 5: I mean honestly, I felt like, you know, I've just
- 58:09Speaker 5: been out the loop for so long. In Battle Wrap,
- 58:11Speaker 5: I was nervous, you know, I just you know, I
- 58:15Speaker 5: I've watched it from a distance for a while now,
- 58:17Speaker 5: Like you got to understand, like, in between the last
- 58:19Speaker 5: three battles, I've had years in between each one, you know,
- 58:22Speaker 5: from conceded to Disaster to this one. I mean, I
- 58:25Speaker 5: feel very lucky that I get to have opponents like
- 58:28Speaker 5: you guys who are the best of the best.
- 58:30Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, And I'm and I'm thrown.
- 58:34Speaker 5: Into the conversation, which I really appreciate, but I do
- 58:36Speaker 5: understand like the levels things have gotten.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it is people just really do it as their
- 58:42Speaker 1: full time job, and we know they're not making any money,
- 58:45Speaker 1: so it's.
- 58:46Speaker 3: Like a fucking like going back to that. We know,
- 58:50Speaker 3: we know you're lying, ally.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Man, and you're just they're doing like twelve battles for
- 58:56Speaker 1: fucking twelve hundred dollars a year, and it's like, damn
- 58:59Speaker 1: like you are grinding out here. It's a fucking steady
- 59:02Speaker 1: ass grind.
- 59:03Speaker 5: But even you know, I do feel like, even if
- 59:06Speaker 5: it's not as much as they say, I do see
- 59:09Speaker 5: them doing tons of battles, so they have to be
- 59:11Speaker 5: making I could see them an average battle rapper making
- 59:14Speaker 5: about a fifty to one hundred k a year.
- 59:17Speaker 3: Do you think an average one.
- 59:18Speaker 1: I think you have to be very I think you
- 59:20Speaker 1: have to be creaming the crop to be making let's
- 59:22Speaker 1: say it one hundred.
- 59:22Speaker 5: If if you're like one of the top battle rappers,
- 59:25Speaker 5: I would say you're making about five K a battle
- 59:27Speaker 5: at least. Yeah, right, so if you're doing what twelve
- 59:33Speaker 5: sixty k?
- 59:34Speaker 3: So yeah, if you're but that's.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Like you're headlining, headlining once a month, right, But I
- 59:40Speaker 1: think that's a small percentage of them.
- 59:42Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, because I even see besides even the big leagues,
- 59:46Speaker 5: I see small leagues. Yeah, but I'm like, these fools
- 59:50Speaker 5: have money too, Yeah, like people.
- 59:52Speaker 3: Just have bread like that.
- 59:53Speaker 5: Who the fuck is sponsoring this some like barbecue restaurant
- 59:56Speaker 5: in Wisconsin or some shit like you.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Are just stacking up money off like an old PPP
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: load or something.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I see small leagues, I yelled, as sponsored by
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: Jim's Hardware, Like what the fuck is Jim and why
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: are you sponsoring this battle?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: How much like business is going to Jim's Hardware off
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: of a fucking rap battle like.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: A very niche communities throughout the world. Bro, dude.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Another thing I'm super curious about with your career is
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: uh the acting ship, but especially like the voiceover ship.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Dude, Yeah, I mean you were in a Disney movie.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: I was.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I had a small party, but let's be let's be
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: fucking bold about this ship. You were in a fucking
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: Disney movie, bro.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, Ryan, the Last Dragon I was able to
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: like do like a quick voice thing in it, which
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: was dope.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: That's crazy. That's like that's a very like benchmark. Like
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: it was. It was actually really cool.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: I mean I can't at least say I did that,
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: you know, and then like I had a voice of
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: adventure time.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Which yeah, that's crazy. That was dope. So I mean
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: was that like a rap was there like a rap
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: battling Yeah?
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but I mean that's why rap battle has took
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: us to interesting places. You gotta admit so you too,
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: you were like fucking in that drop the mic thing
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: writing as a writer, Pa, That's what I'm saying.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: I think it's amazing.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Man. This whole job wouldn't have existed without that. If
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I can't be like I am a champion of battle
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Rap with King.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: I think it's one of those interesting professions that places
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: like advertising agencies and this, like they're like we should
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: hire this guy.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: It works for this too.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like edgy or like to them, they're like,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: oh oh that's different.
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: It's I think my whole thing is that when there's
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: jobs that involve creativity with it's all about like your observations,
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: and I think we display were in battle Rap. We're
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: able to show interesting perspective and observations on that basically.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: I also think battle rap is like eight different production
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: jobs in one because you're like conceptualizing, researching, writing, rehearsing, performing,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: like producing, doing your own business. It's like, if you
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: can do all those things, you probably have a decent
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: sense of like savviness about yourself if you could do
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: it at a relatively high level.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: M I don't know.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I think that like there's there's a
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: lot of like there's good business people and talented people
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: within the battle rap world. Yeah, it's just like they
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: like Nick Cannon's good at grabbing them up, you know
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: what I mean, You've had success in kind of being
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: snatched up all over the place. Yeah. They're still cracking
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: out music too, bro. Yeah, I mean it's hard man.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: I think what's your main thing that you're focused on
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: right now? Or is that is that like a like
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: a fallacy of a question because you are doing so many.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: No, no, No, I think the main thing I'm focused on
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: is is writing, like uh, you know, scripts and stuff
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: like that, because I I want to start in my
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: own shit. I don't want to wait around to audition
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: for like a dream role. You know, what are the
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: odds that like that dream roll is.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Gonna come to your table, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: I'm not gonna wait around for that.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: So like little Dicky had the right date, nobody else
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: was gonna be able to write that shit exactly.
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: So I think a lot of it starts from right,
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: you know what I mean. Even in battle At, what
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: we've done is like it starts from writing, you know,
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: and we have the power to do that. So that's
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: what I'm focused in.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: What story are you trying to tell it? Like the
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: like the Asian eight Mile or.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Yeah, because all the battle.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Rat movie There's been like three battle Rap movies and
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: they all have like a white main character.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Nah na na.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: I would love to Uh, there's something I'm developing based
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: around battle Rap, but it's not eight Mile esque. But
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: but I tend to lean towards more like slice of
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: life stuff, just regular life type of shit. I think
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: a lot of people, like, especially in the Asian community,
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: like we're gonna we have to get that off our
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: chest before we go into like fucking Game of Thrones
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: type shit. You know, That's why we have all these
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Asian stories that's grounded a little more, and then we
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: couldn't be like JK. Rowling and get fucking dragons and
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: wands and shit involved, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: I tend to lean towards like just self deprecation stuff too.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Brush yourself like I feel like that's like a good
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: it keeps you in the same like joking about things
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: type of world, but you can turn around yourself showing
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: like you're not malicious.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: I think it's because we've gotten older in something that
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: we've dreamt about long time. Like when we're first starting rapping,
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: we have these huge dreams and then next thing you know,
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: I'm performing at the Asian Student Association at the community
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: college and opening up for like a Takewondo demonstration, you know.
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: So it's like it gives you like the reality version
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: of your life, and it's funny and it's great.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: It's still a blessing.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Not a lot of people still get pay to do shit,
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: so I find it a blessing. But it's fun to
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: like laugh at yourself and take a look at like
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: what you're doing. And there's so many ways to make
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: money in this world. Yeah, you know, it's insane.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: People will like enjoy it too if they can't laugh
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: at you as well, because it gives them permission to
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: laugh at you too, Like I don't take myself this seriously,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Like this is kind of a contract that we're under.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: We can both laugh at me, Like, yeah, I'm not
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: like holding it to the crazy standard.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: The people that make fun of you for even those
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: small accomplishments are dudes who dream of even slightly making
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: money off of what they love. You know, we're able
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: to do it, and we fit in so many pockets.
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: You can be a commentator on like a boxing match,
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: in this league, battle rap here, beyond a podcast, Like
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: really that's the ultimate dream man, you know, to do
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: what you want to do and we could do everything.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: That's the amazing thing.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: You know, you literally do what you want it like
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: you're in like power and shit, like you just like
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: are acting, but you're like also like headlining shows and
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: like you also can just.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Battle rap whenever you want to.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: I love it. And then I think that's the thing.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: We forget that we're that lucky because we're just focused.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: On this one thing, you know.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: And as Carney as we've heard this all like the
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: journey is the reward, but it really is like we
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: forget to take a look at everything we're doing along
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: the way because we're just dreaming of this fucking thing, and.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Having more journeys is more rewarding. We still get into
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: that that action movie or what bro.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: That was my favorite part from you actually because I
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: was like, that was some ship off the fucking that
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: was funny.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: That making fun of your head.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: We're both things I took from the podcast because that,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: like I just heard you and Rick going back and
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: forth be like you got a big head, you got
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: a head.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: I will admit that was the one thing that hurt
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: me the most, which was the head, big, big, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: like funny Jo looking like a pop funko pop all
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: that that was funny because I've always been insecure about
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: my big head and it's funnyest So I'm like, god
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: damn it, I'm like looking in the mirror, like it's like.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: What's going on? Was so funny? The worst, but yeah,
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: that in the action movie. I was like, Bro, I
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: could see it.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Dude.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: You you you were you've been running. Bro, you're fucking
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: in shape.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Bro.
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: I don't think it's far fetched. It's just like I
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: I did realize because you.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Also don't have boobies, you're not five six and a
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: half in the moment and you were like, no, no.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: It's just it's a it's a tough thing.
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: It's like, you know, we're all getting older and I
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: don't have any more shorts training it. Bobby, it's Bobby
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: Lee in the podcast said something funny because it makes sense,
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: like if I'm an Asian dude like going into Hollywood
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: and about to do action movies, just like what, you're
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: an Asian dude that doesn't do martial arts, like one
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: of the odds are gonna cast over, but write that.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Action movie like all the jokes, you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: you write that action movie, that's fine, there's space for
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: it now.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: I think you know it to be the comedic dude
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: who can't do the martial arts. Even just seeing like
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: Simon Rex just pop up and like that. Oh, I'm
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: so happy for him.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: That was so fire, just him like popping up, him
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: just being like, yeah, I'm just gonna win a couple
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: of awards, just like the strength.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: Been hilarious and genius with his fucking content like that
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: motherfucker has been funny, funnier than fucking ninety percent of Hollywood.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just genuinely hilarious. He just has the appreciation
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: for the same shit.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: I was such a fan of that dude, like beyond
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: just that things shit just on social media.
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: And he's just cool as fuck, so cool. Yeah, dude,
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Well you're the man.
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: Bro.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: I appreciate you so much for comedy.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Love you, brother, thank you, thank you for having made
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: and uh yeah, you're the man.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: I think people will enjoy hearing your shot everything. Thank
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: you brother, Thanks for having me of course. Please h
