Typhoon Bavi slammed into eastern China’s Zhejiang province, triggering massive evacuations—over 2.2 million people in Zhejiang alone, plus hundreds of thousands in Shanghai and Fujian. The storm, downgraded to a tropical storm inland, dumped heavy rain and wind, forcing Shanghai’s two major airports to cancel 653 flights. In coastal Yueqing, more than 1,300 trees were uprooted. Meanwhile, Bavi skirted north of Taiwan, causing 134 injuries from wind and slick roads.
