Lucas: Well, we've covered a lot of body parts already, from hand to buik. Today we're adding two more to your toolkit: de nek and het hoofd. Luna: De nek and het hoofd. That's neck and head, right? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with de nek. Repeat after me: de nek. Luna: De nek. De nek. Lucas: Perfect. Now, het hoofd. Say it with me: het hoofd. Luna: Het hoofd. Het hoofd. Lucas: Great. Now, if you have a headache, you say: Ik heb hoofdpijn. Luna: Ik heb hoofdpijn. That literally means 'I have head pain', doesn't it? Lucas: Yes, hoofdpijn is a compound of hoofd and pijn. So Ik heb hoofdpijn means 'I have a headache.' Luna: Ik heb hoofdpijn. I can imagine saying that after a long day. Lucas: And if your neck is stiff, you say: Ik heb een stijve nek. Luna: Ik heb een stijve nek. That's a useful one. I often wake up with a stiff neck. Lucas: Let's practice all three. Repeat after me: Ik heb hoofdpijn. Luna: Ik heb hoofdpijn. Lucas: Ik heb een stijve nek. Luna: Ik heb een stijve nek. Lucas: And one more way to say your head hurts: Mijn hoofd doet pijn. Luna: Mijn hoofd doet pijn. So that's like 'my head hurts'. Lucas: Exactly. Mijn hoofd doet pijn. Let's say it together: Mijn hoofd doet pijn. Luna: Mijn hoofd doet pijn. Lucas: Now let's put them in a mini dialogue. Imagine you bump into a friend on the street. They ask: Hoe gaat het? Luna: I'd say: Ik heb hoofdpijn. Lucas: And if they ask about your neck? Luna: Ik heb een stijve nek. Lucas: Perfect.
