Also, another announcement here, another another announcement of the podcast before we get too far in. Today, when this podcast releases on Wednesday, it is officially one year of Brody Pod. So we have been doing the podcast for one year. Let's go. Shout out, shout out. Yeah, I think September 16th, that is the official like when we released the first episode. So Thank you, everyone, who has been listening and supporting the podcast for this past year. And here is too many more to come. But also, side note, there probably won't be an episode next week. So I'll be out of town and ⁓ also Matt will be out of town. So with that though, we can get into this episode, and you guys will see the familiar face that we got back. Ethan is back as a co-host. Matt's out of town this week. So Ethan is stepping in his place, and Ethan's already got the sick Patrick Mahomes jersey going on right now. Yep, gotta support the Red Raider. Yeah, we're actually as we're recording this, Monday night football's going on. Score seven seven right now in the first quarter. So Mahomes is already looking healthy. He already had a rushing touchdown. Technically technically he had two. First one was called back and then I was I was surprised. His his leg's looking a lot healthier than I initially thought. So we ⁓ it might have been still if you haven't been in your fantasy football drafts. I think he was going like in the last round. People were just taking flyers on him. So Mahomes is still Mahomes. Shocker there. But with that, we can get into the show. We're gonna kind of switch up kind of the way we're doing the show this week. We're gonna, especially with like the NFL college football, bunch of big news coming out of there. A lot of big upsets and crazy games ever happening. So we will get into first the NFL week one surprises and headlines, followed by the best week two matchups that we s that we see coming up. Then we'll recap some of the college games that we saw this past week, along with what are some big ranked matchups that are gonna be happening. Get guys ready for the Saturday of football and Friday. And then we'll finish off with Birdies of the Week. So, with that, Ethan, we can get into top sports headlines around the NFL and some of the biggest surprises. We're going to start off here with a game that happened across the pond in Australia. Probably was, you know, it was it was nighttime here, but it was like 10 a.m. here. It was the Rams losing to the 49ers 27-7. Probably. Probably the first real crazy upset of the NFL season. I know the the Seahawks beat the Patriots, that was kind of shocking to people, but this was big upset. I mean, do you call it a upset though? I mean, the Rams on paper were a super team, yes, but the forty niners have always been I mean, they've always had dogs on their team and all. Like I felt like it was gonna be a lot closer than what it was, but I didn't feel like I mean, I don't wouldn't call it a upset necessarily. ⁓ you bring up a good point. Yeah, the the Rams feel like they're I mean, they have like a core that's been around a little bit, but as far as like which one of these teams, like you put them on paper, who should dominate who, the Rams should have dominated this game. And it can turned out it was a complete opposite. The forty niners are like healthy probably for the first time, I feel like in a while though too, especially on the defensive side ish. I mean Fred Warner's back, Trey Greenlaw Yeah, and I listen, we'll see how long that health lasts for the Forty Niners. But I think we did learn something big in this game. We officially learned which sleep schedule is the best for these NFL teams. ⁓ s if anyone didn't know, the the 49ers went down to Australia like ten days a week. Yeah, eleven days before before the yeah, before the kickoff. And the the Rams kind of just rolled in twenty four hours before the game started. They were trying to not be acclimated to the Australia time. They're trying to trick the bodies. And I tell you from like the very first I mean the first two drives between both these teams were a little, you know, shaky, but it seemed like the forty niners just had like a better energy. They were just a lot more like pounding the ball and it just seemed like they they were the more energetic team for this game. Yeah, I think the ⁓ the travel plans for the Rams really, I think, screwed ⁓ up pretty well, like good. I think that I feel like that may have had a big reason and why they looked so flat, not Very good, but also I feel like the Forty Niners are back to being the Forty Niners of a couple years ago when they made it to the Super Bowl. Yeah, maybe it was just everyone was talking about the Rams and no one was really talking about the Fort Niners other than the ⁓ electrical substation that was affecting their practices. But you know, one of the one of the people that I I don't think enough people were talking about was Mike Evans. Mike Evans is a complete dog still. He he is. He is. I The Forty Niners had a lot to play for though, honestly. I mean, they just lost a brother in in ⁓ Dejan Love though too. So I was wondering they they were playing for him, man. I mean, everyone's came out and said that they knew him and maybe he wasn't a liar. I think yeah, I think a lot of people I that meme has taken on a whole life of itself with the Dejaon Love jokes going around and and even Tyree Kill had come out and said, like, ⁓ yeah, Dejaon Love, I've worked out with him plenty of times. So it's ⁓ it's very interesting. No, the the forty niners, it seems like other than they had a a major kind of injury at the end, it was DeJohn Stribling, who a lot of people were kind of was a sleeper for fantasy football. He did get hurt in this game, but one of the biggest injuries that came out of this game was it turns out Miles Garrett is gonna have to have surgery on his knee. So I guess this is something that had been talked about by the Rams staff before. I guess whenever the trade went down for Miles Garrett, that ⁓ they had asked him and Miles Garrett was like, No, I'm I'm I'm healthy, I feel good to go and everything, and then he ended up having zero tackles in this game, which it's the first game that he hasn't had a tackle since week eleven of twenty twenty four. And it's the fourth time ever that this has happened in his career. Yeah, I mean, but you gotta I feel like he's also gonna miss four weeks now because of this. He's he is gonna have to have knee surgery. I feel like once I mean, if they knew about it during the trade, like when They traded for him. I feel like they should have went ahead and said, All right, hey, go have surgery. That way you could be back week one or week two or long. I guess the training camp as well, like he had just been taking some time off, but he was like, I'll be good to go by game time. They probably just thought it was like a veteran thing. I and it also doesn't sound like it's like super serious knee surgery if he's only gonna miss if he's I guess he's on IR for a minimum of four weeks. Four to six, I think is what they said, wasn't it? Yeah. I mean, if you go on IR, you have to go on for at least four weeks. But I think the original report from said that the surgery was about a four to six week recovery. Which that doesn't sound like major knee surgery to me. Normally like that would mean like you're out for the season. So it sounds like he'll be coming back. And two, I don't think they would have traded for him if it was major knee surgery either, though. Yeah. Yeah. And also I guess Aaron Donald would be coming back. He did not play in this game in Australia. They didn't even I don't think he traveled with the team out there to Australia. There's I think Ethan, last time you're on the podcast, we talked about like what would the ramp up process be for Aaron Donald and it's still he he's gonna have to ramp up to football conditioning. We kind of were expecting that. We didn't know what that would look like. Turns out he just didn't play any snaps in this game or even travel with the team, so Which I mean, honestly, I think that's I probably if I was in his shoes, I wouldn't want to travel all the way over there either. I'd kind of wanna make I mean play here in the States where you don't have to worry about the time difference and everything else like that. I mean I think it's I think he I think it's a ramp up. I mean they're gonna slowly work its way up there, but I think it's gonna be a lot faster of a process now that Miles Garrett's out. 'Cause they're gonna have to have someone on that defensive line to cause some trouble. Yeah. And I mean also I thought one of the I don't know, maybe this is something that gets fixed in the season, but it looked like Matthew Stafford was under a lot of distress in this game. And ⁓ it once again, you talk about the four diners having like a solid defense and everyone kind of forgets about that. ⁓ but it seemed like just like the offensive line for the Rams was not there for this game. And they were kind of for the whole I mean, Matthew Stafford, it didn't look like he was comfortable at all in this game. Yeah, I I wouldn't overreact too much with that right now. I mean, like we said, they did twenty seven, I think it was hours, they arrived and played a football game. And so I feel like that had a lot to do. Now if he comes out and struggles week two, then I'd probably start to question and get a little bit nervous. Maybe time to bring the backup in. Actually, no, they did bring the backup in. Who was it? Stetson Bennett. He came in the final drive for the Rabs. Actually, wasn't it or was it Ty Simpson? Stetson Bennett came in. Ty Simpson. I Ty Sampson's the third string quarterback for the Rams, technically, even though he'll probably be the one that takes over when Matthew Stafford's all said and done. But no, you bring up a good point. Not don't overreact overreact to your teams in week one. It's almost like fantasy football, like don't overreact to losing week one. It's more about like what you do in the in the next. This is almost like a filling out process, like a first round of a like a I don't know, boxing fight or something. Like the guys are really like filling out, kind of seeing where the punches land and stuff and You kind of see what you got. Because you can't replicate this game speed in practice. This is something you just kinda get reps at now. Normally you get it worked out in the preseason, but I think the Rams having so many veterans, they were like, we don't want to risk getting too many injuries. That's another thing I don't like. Like I feel I feel like at least the last game your starters should play. Cause I feel like two, I mean, coming out week one, we can make a lot of excuses about the time and all, but I mean I feel like too you have a little rust in that and all just with game speed and everything's a lot different than OTAs and pre like practice basically. Yeah. Now and ⁓ speaking of not overreacting, but I'm gonna overreact. Let's move on to our next game here, Ethan. I think yeah I think this is a game everyone wants to hear about. Rams fans don't overreact, but We're about to overreact right here. Yeah, we're about to overreact a little bit. So let's we're gonna go jump from I think this was Thursday night football. We're gonna jump to Sunday night football and then we'll get some of the other games. But Sunday night football, it's fresh on my mind, it's fresh on Ethan's mind. We're both Cowboys fans here. Let's go ahead and get that out of the way. Yeah. The Giants beat down the Cowboys twenty eight to twenty. And you might say, twenty eight to twenty doesn't really seem like a beat down. No, I think ⁓ At any point this game felt like it was a lot the score makes it seem like it was a lot closer than it was. The Giants came out to play. Yeah, the Giants ran the same play four times in a row and the Cowboys couldn't stop it. Threw it to basically the same guy four times in a row. Was it Tyrant Tracy? Yeah. Yeah. It was that little over in the flat swing route by the running back and the Cowboys just did not know how to guard that. And not to mention that you know, that little sequence of plays, but I just want to shout out the Giants players. Jackson Dart, Cam Scattaboo, Malik Neighbors, and then of all people, Isaiah Likely looked very impressive in this game. The Giants' whole offense just seemed like I mean, I get this is two credits. The Giants players look good on offense and their defense also looked good, but I'm gonna I'm gonna focus on the offense and the Cowboys defense for a second. The Cow Giants offensive players look great in this game. The Cowboys defense, it came out, it was the worst performance of week one by any defense. Now, I don't want to say we were sold some bad goods by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys organization. And maybe the k maybe the fans got a little too hyped, but I would be concerned. I am definitely concerned. Kristen Parker talked a great talk. Now he is a first year defensive coordinator. So I will give him some credit and hopefully we get better as the season goes on. But we're allowed to get better a lot quicker for me to feel comfortable about our season. Yeah, no, it was it was it was a it was a tough debut for Christian I also seen w since we're talking about the New York Giants ⁓ staying in New York, we'll say I did see where the New York Jets and the New York Giants both won their week one opener for the first time since two thousand and nine. That's ⁓ that's tough actually I saw We're not gonna we're not gonna get too much on the Jets, but I saw it was like the first time as well they scored on their first drive. And now they didn't play the Titans, but it's the first time they scored on their first drive since ⁓ like two thousand nine as well. So things are looking up for the Jets. I think the whole the whole week one can just be summed up to whatever you thought was gonna happen just didn't happen at all. And I I mean let's let's get back on the Cowboys here. Dak Prescott didn't look as as impressive either. ⁓ I know I'm what he what did he finish yards wise? He finished with 175 passing yards. He did have two touchdowns, but then he also had a dumb interception right at the end of the second half that ended up lit leading to the Giants to score another touchdown to Isaiah Likely. Yeah, what also is what I'm worried about too is last year we had a great run game. This year Or this game right here non existent. I mean, we didn't even break a hundred yards rushing out of any like all combined, no one on the Cowboys could combine for a hundred yards rushing. Javante had forty one yards, Dak had fourteen, and then Hunter Lipke had seven and the back. Yeah. Like we couldn't ⁓ even get a hundred yards rushing. I will I will give some Grace to Javante Williams. However, he did screw us on the last touchdown that the Cowboys had where he was taunting, which I it's kind of soft that we're we're flagging the taunt. Then Br Brandon Aubrey misses the kick. Turns out it didn't really even matter because the Giants were able to close out the game. But Javante Williams did also have 31 yards c receiving, and he wasn't my fantasy team. I think he finished with like twenty four points or something like that, or twenty twenty something points. So not not too we don't we don't want Javante to stop what he's doing. Javante's doing a good job. Do I wanted to do more. God stop. I need more. But no, for real, like Jackson Dart, ⁓ not only did he have like two hundred thirty yards passing, but he had it seemed like any time the Cowboys did have everything covered up, he would just be running free down the field. Yeah. I was very impressed. I I was and also like he wasn't out there heat hit seeking like he was last season. He was actually being kind of protective with the ball. They just leave that to Cam Scattabu go bang his head against somebody. Yeah, I ⁓ It's looking very bright for New York. I'm ⁓ I'm a little bit worried after watching them last night. Jackson Dart, Scataboo, Isaiah Likely, Malik Neighbors. I mean, they got a great team dealing here. We we said this. There's a clip out there of us talking about this week matchup where we're like, you know, the Cowboys good and we're we're expecting to get things where we're like, this Giants team, it's sneaky. Yeah, you can't sleep on ⁓ We didn't know exactly what to expect and I don't know if them if they were just fired up because they were in New York or if what what John Harbaugh told told the guys, but they just came out and they just had a little bit more energy than the Cowboys. At no point did I think the Cowboys really had a shot at winning. No, I'm watching it, no. Before the game I would have said the Cowboys would have Well the the Cowboys were favored by two. They were the favorites to win. I did see where Jackson Dart was talking about him and Harbaugh were talking about Malik neighbors and how, you know, once Malik had that first tackle that he'd calm down and feel like he'd be all right since he had that major knee injury. And Dart was saying that he was warming up like before game, warming up and all, and heard some commotion and looked over and John or yeah, John Harbaugh tackled Malik neighbors and was like, see, hey, look, you're fine. What he tackled him? Yeah, he tackled him. Just to b make him feel better about his Yeah. Just to make him feel better about his knee and all. Like, hey, you're gonna be all right. Like it's Get your mind off of it and everything. That's funny. That's such a horball move to do. I mean, the I mean, like, don't get me wrong, like the Eagles are still gonna be pretty good in the division. Cowboys will probably get things figured. I hope they get things figured out. But the Giants, it looks like now it's gonna be a a three three team race for the division. It does, and I mean, if anything week one tells us anything how the season's gonna go, we're gonna be the third team there fighting. I won't even say like You could even say four teams. The Commanders did look somewhat impressive against the the Eagles as well. Yeah. They were able to stay with ⁓ That game was a lot closer than than what this game was. But overall I think that let's not overreact too much, but let's overreact. I'm gonna pump the brakes on the Cowboys having any type of Super Bowl chances. No, yeah, no, definitely. ⁓ We're just hoping to make the playoffs now. Right yeah, I'm gonna say right now I'm just worried about making the playoffs as a wildcard team. But yeah, don't overreact week one, but we're we're gonna overreact. There is a long season still, so Yeah. So, okay. Moving on from that game, let's see, where do we want to go next? Let's start with let's go back through some of the noon games that happened. So starting off here, we're gonna move from the Cowboys to the Saints. And now Matt's not here right now to record the podcast with us, but the Saints did lose to the Lions thirty one thirty in an overtime thriller. Saints got robbed. Let's Saints did get robbed. However, I did reach out to Matt since he couldn't be here. I said, Do you have a a statement for the Saints and and how you feel? Now there might be ⁓ I might have to not use some of the words that he used for the statement. ⁓ but he said that it was a tough watch in the first half. He said, especially when ⁓ Shroud opened the second half with another pick. He never lost faith. Defense was incredible the entire game, considering the offense couldn't move. the ball in the first half. Sh Shuck finally settled in and showed that he's a top ten quarterback in the league and that has that clutch factor. Olave has solidified himself as a top ten receiver and made that contract he just got look like a steal. Offensive line needs to block, but Shuck was able to come back down 21-0 with four minutes left in the third to tie the game. We lost but had two legitimate chances to win the game, a 62 yard field goal at the end of regulation. And a two point conversion, obviously. The two point play was stupid. The ball should have went to Olave or Vil Dil Vill Ville. It's a tough one. He also did pretty well good receiver for the Saints. ⁓ Gibbs is the guy and he might be the best back in the league. So feel free to shorten it, but that's I'm just gonna read his whole statement. I don't agree with the part where he says Olave's a top ten receiver in the league. I think Olave's made a glass and I that's coming from someone who has him on his fantasy team. Well. Alave's a top ten receiver in the league if he's healthy. If he yeah, there's a good caveat. If he's healthy. After every catch in the Lions game, I thought his career was over. The way he he'd bang his head against the turret, and that's with the guardian cap. He did I did say see where he was talking about that. I guess someone asked him about that in the media. And he was saying like I've had a lot of concussions and all and after football I want to be able to remember and have a life. So smart. I think honestly, I think if you're quarterback or receiver or even about running back, I think you should wear a a guardian cap, at least after your first concussion. Yeah, I think they need to make like the the shoulder pads bigger or something to help offset the guardian cap, 'cause it does look like bobbleheads out there. I know one of the one of the big ones about it is Romeo Dobbs. Everyone just makes jokes about his guardian cap all the time. It looks way here's What I would like I wouldn't be f I would be perfectly fine if they said everyone has to wear guardian caps. But let ⁓ like if they're wearing guardian caps that protects the head, let ⁓ be vicious and like hit like they used to hit. Like let's You want you want like C T E NFL to come back. I mean Yes and no, but we we have the guardian caps to protect it and all, okay? So let's not make me sound like a monster, but I think if they're gonna do the Guardian capture they should just build it into the helmet. I I don't know why they haven't done that yet, 'cause it does look like I don't know if the cloth material gets all messed up. It looks dumb. But I don't think you could build it into the like I don't know. I mean There's gotta be a way. I mean, listen, we're not like the smartest guys in the room, but There has to you're right. There has to be way, but I don't I don't think I don't think it would look good though. I don't think it looks good now. I think anything else they'd try would be better. You say that, but But I I I think like so it it should be the player's choice. They want to do the guardian cap or not. They just should need to make it fit the helmet better 'cause it seems like it's way too small. Or in or in in the g then when it's on the helmet it looks like a bobblehead. Make the shoulder pads bigger or something. Just balance it out a little bit. Or maybe make the maybe make the guardian cap not as bulky. Yeah. Like have some I don't know how you do that though. I mean, thicker padding but harder padding, but it's still I don't know. But back on the Saints, I will agree with Matt the two point conversion play that they ran at the end. While I do respect Kellen Moore for going for it and not ending the game at a tie, like no one wants to see a tie. I think that there should be even a tie in in football, but I get it. You gotta end the game at some point. I respect it. I just think the two point conversion play could have been a little bit better. It Yeah. Didn't really look like it ever had a chance. Definitely. And also Matt said that, ⁓ forgot to mention this. I actually missed I was driving back from ⁓ from hunting. I was trying to w keep up with the game on the radio, but ⁓ there was apparently a a crazy fumble that happened that ended up getting called back. ⁓ the Saints could have scored on it. He said that they got screwed on it, but Yeah, that's yeah. I think they said that the ⁓ quarterback's intent was to throw the ball and so Once again, Jared Goff's screwing over the Saints. It was ⁓ I we were talking about this before the sh we started the show, Ethan, but it was it was the Rams display with Jared Goff and then there was the one with the ⁓ I think it was like the NFC Championship and the Rams and the Saints. It was the no interference or pass interference, no call. Yeah. So Jared Goff just seems to be the Achilles Hill for the Saints. Which I think they they played in Detroit though. It'd been crazy if they played in ⁓ New Orleans and happened to New Orleans, yeah. Yeah, ⁓ also Matt, final thing of his statement, he said once Jordan Tyson comes back, the offense will be elite. I mean, they do have some once Jordan Tyson comes back, Olave, Juwan, Johnson, I mean, the Biel, whatever, Noah Fant. Vale, I think that's his Vale. I mean, they have some weap they're b Kellen Moore's building a great team around Tyler Shroud. Yeah. Tyler Shuck. Shuck. Shuck Shuck. That's right. Yeah. So speaking of weird names, ⁓ I can't get over the ⁓ them calling it Travis A Chan. Yeah. I get that's what he wants to be called, but it to me it will always be E T N. That's just the way I my when my when I read his name it says E. T. N to me. Yeah. I get it. He wants to be called A Chan. That's how his it's always been pronounced in his in his family. That's just it's just weird to me. I kept thinking like ⁓ Devon A Chan from the Dolphins was on the Saints. Every time I heard it on the radio. Yeah. I feel like that's like I mean, I would want it to be Travis E. T.N., not a chin, because that sounds like Devon A chain. Like it sounds like you want to be him. No, I I it just gets me confused. You can't have that especially with that spelling. It's just weird. That that's just where my brain goes with it. But okay, good good win for the Lions. Also, if you had Amal Amal Ra or Jameer Gibbs, you're looking great in fantasy as well. And moving on here to the next game in the noon slate. That was probably the best game of the of the day. There's not really too much ahead for this. It was Bills thirty-six, Texans thirty-one. I just put next to this in the notes. I said good game. It was a good game. It was ⁓ we got to see Josh Allen. Now he did struggle a little bit on the first drive, but other than that, like it seemed like he came alive and then he was able to lead a game, go ahead winning drive on the final drive and and was able to get the touchdown. So I mean, just good stuff there for the Bills. They obviously Have high hopes for this season. And ⁓ I think this was a great test point for him, especially against that Texans defense, which is actually elite. They have some crazy good defen defenders over there. And ⁓ not to mention also David Montgomery might have been the steal if you had him in any of your fantasy football drafts. Had twenty carries for sixty yards and two touchdowns. On top of that, three receptions for nineteen yards. I think he had like thirty points or something in fantasy football is insane. Do you want to shout out Landon Jackson? Another touchdown receiving two. Landon Jackson got a tackle in the game. He is from my hometown. That's pretty cool. And then my boy ⁓ Bradley Chubb, who I have met, who is ⁓ he had four tackles this game. Both those guys are on the Bills. Yep. See when you come to defenders on the podcast, not everyone knows him. You gotta s gotta see what team they're on. You're right, you're right. Yeah, no, I got to meet meet Bradley Chubb. I actually flew with him, ⁓ From here to ⁓ Denver. I was going out going skiing and he he was ⁓ he had a doctor's appointment for his ACL here. So that was pretty cool. Speaking of just good defenders, I'll shout out Kamari Lasser for the Texans cornerback. I'm only shouting him out because I kept hearing on the broadcast that he's the best tackling corner in the league. And he kinda is. Multiple times. He would just grab Josh Allen by the by the ankles or something, or if there's a receiver, DJ Moore, whoever he was just He was there. He's an absol he's an a he's an actual glove. All right. Good game there. So moving on to a game that I thought was going to be a blowout. It was, just not in the way that I thought. ⁓ the Cardinals beat the Chargers 26 to 14. Now, I gotta go ahead and make a public apology to the Cardinals. Me and Matt both went through their schedule and we were trying to project when they were gonna get their first win. I think we said like week. ten or week eleven whenever they played the Jets. Turns out it was week one. That was not on our bingo card. That I'm pretty sure wasn't on anyone's bingo card unless you were a Arizona Cardinals fan or a Chargers hater. I don't think even the Cardinals fans believed they were going to win that game. I I was surprised when I seen that final score. Actually let me just see what the let me just see what the spread was for that game. I mean Jacoby Brusset I mean, he kind of shined here twenty seven for thirty-seven, two hundred and seventy-seven yards and a touchdown. I mean Yeah, Chargers were favored by eleven and a half in this game. I will say also, Justin Herbert didn't look the best in this game. Martin Hampton didn't look too good in this game. Lad McConkey actually did pretty well, which I think last year when you're starting off, like Lad McConkey was like the downfall of the Chargers. Now it seems like everything else around him was kind of the downfall. But yeah, Jacoby Brissett looked great. Trey McBride looked great. Surprisingly, Tyler Algier was the leading rusher for the Cardinals, not Jeremiah Love. Yeah, I think they're kind of slowly getting Jeremiah Love in there, like getting him acclimated, I guess, to NFL style play and all. Yeah. And also, shout out to Mike LaFleur, who gets his in his coaching debut, gets a gets a huge win against Jim Harbaugh and ⁓ who's the other? Mike McDaniels. Mike McDaniel. I was going to say Mike. Mike O'Connell, that's not in it. Which is we'll see how this g year goes, but I feel like there was lots of hope for the Chargers and John Harbaugh or Jim Harbaugh and ⁓ having Mike McDaniel come as his OC. Yeah. I mean the Cardinals just dominated this game. It was it was just not on my bingo card at all. If anyone had him winning, you probably made a lot of money. Yeah, I do ⁓ go ahead. ⁓ no, I was gonna move on to the next one. What'd you have? I don't think we're going to talk about this one, but I do want to shout out the Dolphins and ⁓ Jacob Rodriguez. Fourteen tackles in his debut, so you're right. We were gonna talk about that one. Dolphins did lose to the Raiders. I didn't know the score, but it was one of the one of the four games on in the afternoon slate. Also, I saw Jacob Rodriguez as the backup long snapper. I did see I saw he was warming up. And I also see that he is the only rookie this year to be a ⁓ have a green dot on his helmet. Yeah, he's a he's he's got a lot of responsibility on the Dolphins. Yeah. It might take everything for him to help them get a win. So Dolphins might actually be one of the worst. Dolphins or Titans might be the worst team in the NFL. That's a week one reaction. Yeah, I don't know. Probably gonna give me a Dolphins Jacob Rodriguez jersey. Wreck ⁓ That'd be sick. Just don't get you a Dolphins Malik Willis jersey. ⁓ no, definitely. I mean let's Malik Willis He was fifteen for twenty seven, two hundred and twenty yards and ⁓ interception. I mean, he didn't do terrible. It looks like their I mean, it looks like their run game is atrocious. Like they may need some offensive line help. Yeah, someone has Devon H on his fantasy team. I was I was shocked that he didn't I think he had like ten points total for the for the game, so which ⁓ that's kind of what we expect. The Dolphins might be in passing situations a lot this season. I mean Kirk Cousins week one usually does good. The first couple weeks does good. So if they ever played again later in the season, I'd like to see how it goes. Yeah. I gotta just a gripe real quick I wanted to bring up on the podcast. And this is just first world problems here. ⁓ I don't know who has the Sunday ticket. Ethan, do you have the Sunday ticket? I do not. Okay, I have the Sunday ticket. I'm someone that likes to watch all the games. The problem with the noon slate. Is there's too many games. I can't do my multi view where you can only see four games. You you miss like half the games. What do you have? You have ⁓ YouTube TV or Yeah, YouTube TV is where the Sunday ticket is. Yeah. I was gonna say the downfall to this is like I want the NFL. Maybe for like the first couple of weeks, I gotta work into football. I gotta work back into watching football. That's I gotta get I gotta get like you know, we have the preseason. They don't have the preseason where you can watch like all these games at once, or maybe they do, but I wasn't able to find him. ⁓ they should for like the first couple weeks, the noon slate should be four games and there should be maybe just do like football on Friday and Sunday or something. Break it up a little bit. Don't have all these noon games at once. I think there's like there was like six games or something. Yeah. I I wish too on the YouTube TV, the multiview, like you were saying, like you can if you Saturday, I was watching Multaview with couple of the college football games and I wish it would like fill the screen up. Like if I do two games it would fill the like half and half. Yeah, it does it is like half of it. I don't like it's small. It doesn't fill up the whole like you might as well just do four. Yeah. No, I ⁓ that's listen, that's I know that's a first world problem to have. ⁓ the afternoon games were nice because it was only four, so I could watch all four at once. Now Once again, this is gonna work its way out of once the season gets going and there's certain teams that I just don't care to watch. Like I imagine I won't be watching a lot of Titans games. I imagine I won't be watching a lot of Dolphins games. Maybe if Jacob Rodriguez is there. But like certain teams will matter more to watch them throughout the season. The teams that suck, you're not gonna watch as much, yeah. Yeah. So that that will work its way out, but then once again, I'll be like in my prime form later on in the season. Not like trying to watch them all week one. I'm I'm overwhelmed, I'm overstimulated trying to watch football. But yeah, that's just something I wanted to bring up. Another thing I wanted to bring up here, and I don't know, Ethan, if you're familiar with scorgamis. ⁓ Okay. This is ⁓ this is like a football nerd thing here. Anyone that's a football nerd on listening to the podcast, you're gonna enjoy this. ⁓ scoragami is when it happens whenever an NFL score finishes, and that score has never happened in the NFL before. Okay. Now, we had two of those on Sunday. Two scoragamis. It is rare to get one score Gami in a week, Ethan. To get two scores that have never happened in the history of the NFL is unheard of. It's it only happened a handful of times. So the first one, which I didn't I didn't realize this one, was the Bears and Panthers game. The Bears won at 59 to 37. That score has never happened in the NFL before. Bears offense looked really good. DeAndre Swift, Caleb Williams, the whole offense was just clicking. It was just an offensive shootout game. The other one, and the one that made me go look up what if it was a scorgami was the Vikings and the Packers game. Vikings won thirty nine, Packers twenty-two. I saw the thirty nine for the Packers and I said that's a w or I saw the thirty nine for the Vikings and I said, That's a weird score. That is a strange score. There might this might be a scoregami and I did. It was like three minutes left. I was like, please no one score again. So do they have like a chart or a breakdown of all the like is there a place you can go and look to see all the Yeah, it's called NFL score Gami. Just go look it up right now. It'll show you if it's happened before, there'll be a green box. And it'll also show you like if that's cool like what score is the most prevalent. So like obviously like a fourteen seven was happening way back in the day. That that's like a football score. But if it's never happened before, there'll be a white box. I'll put like a graphic up on the podcast or something so people can see. Go check this out. It's a football nerd thing and and I always like I love a score. Actually I tweeted out from the Brody Pod Twitter, I like, We have a score Gami in Minnesota. Which also that game was just crazy. Kylan Murray got obliterated and Carson Wentz had to step in and actually play pretty well. Packers I was I said I was nervous about the Packers and I was shocked to see the Vikings do as well. Yeah. What do you do if you're the Vikings and Carson Wentz wins next this week? And looks pretty good. Do you You leave him in. That's that's what I'm thinking. I especially if you're a fantasy football owner and you have Justin Jefferson, you want Carson to Wincea quarterback. Yeah. I think this is like the first time he's had two touchdowns in a game in like a year or something. Yeah, well they they actually have a decent I mean, receiver quarterback now. I say I mean I think Kyler Murray will do great in Minnesota with I mean They have a team. He's not used to having a team around him. Well, I'm not saying Kyler Murray's bad quarterback. I'm just saying like from from a passing standpoint, Carson Wentz is a better passer of football. Now, obviously Carson Wentz does not have the running ability that Kyler Murray has. Let's let's go ahead and say that right now. Yeah. No, I'm with Kyler Murray's and his running ability is like we saw he can you can get injured. And the way he got injured was actually like ⁓ some people say it was like a dirty hit. I don't think it was a dirty hit at all. Kyler Murray's helmet was actually coming off. as he was sliding to the ground, which it might just be like he just didn't have it buckled up good. But then the the Packers defender came in, hit him on like the back of the head. He almost like did the fencing position of like what we've seen Tua do in the past. And I kind of was like, okay, this is not a looking good for Kyler Murray. Luckily he was able to walk off the field on his own power. But I mean, this is why you have Carson Wentz as your backup quarterback. So you get a veteran leadership in there. Yeah. It sounds like to me it's guardian cap time for Kelly Murray. The guardian cap wouldn't have even helped him. His helmet was coming off. Yeah, I think It was like lifting off the back of his head and the defender came in and hit him right here. That's the problem with the new stuff, like helmet set or what is like a basically the zip, like you just pull the tabs and they's like I don't know what you call ⁓ But like old school, like when I was in middle school. Yeah. Middle school, like you need them where you buckle it, where it's actually a ⁓ A button or something. Yeah. Yeah. Button. No, I'm with ya. I think that now the other ones I think are good for getting on and off, but like I don't know. I I think he just didn't have his helmet strapped out good enough. Yeah. Which is unfortunate. It wasn't anything that he did, it was just the equipment kind of failed him. Well yeah, and we don't know how tight he had it or whatever to eat to, so he could wear it loose and it'd slide off like that. Yeah. It looked like a very bad head. The helmet went rolling and stuff, so But glad to see. I think you'll be okay. I think once again, I I don't expect to play this week just because the hit was pretty violent. But ⁓ yeah, I think ⁓ the Packers, their offense looked somewhat decent. They were winning this game, and then all of a sudden it just got flipped on its head. The Vikings do have a really, really solid defense that finally stepped up. So but with that, that was kind of the headlines going around the NFL for week one. Now we're getting into some week two, some of the matchups. I went ahead and just looked, looked ahead and put down the the key matchups I thought were the best. These also the games that had like the best spread and everything. So starting off Thursday night football, we have the Lions at the Bills. It's going to be the Bills opening their new stadium. Ethan, do we just want to go through and kind of give our picks for these games? Yeah, well let's do it. Why not? Okay. So what do you got in this? You know, Bills opening a new stadium, Lions, you know, coming off a big O O T win against the Saints. I got the Bills. The I think just coming off that big win and especially opening up a new stadium, there's gonna be a lot of like things going on and I think they are hyped for the new stadium and all of good energy in this kind of building and carry it out through this week as well. Yeah, I like the Lions in this one. I think they just have a lot of good pieces. I think Dan Campbell's gonna get the boys fired up to come play spoiler in the opening night in the new Bill Stadium, like That's the type of stuff you go down in history if you win that game. Who that's a good trivia question. Who won the first game at, you know, this stadium? It's gonna be the Lions. We'll see. So I'm gonna I'm gonna take the Lions in that Thursday night game. Then moving on to the Sunday noon. Best game I saw on the Sunday noon slate was the Bingles at the Texans. Texans are a three point favorite in this. ⁓ you know, Bengals got a very explosive offense. Got Jamar Chase, you got Joe Joe Burrow. ⁓ you got T. Higgins, you got Chase Brown, and not to mention their defense actually looked pretty good last week against the Buccaneers. And then the Texans, you know, they got that really solid defense, but the offense still gives me question marks. So I think for that reason, I'm gonna go Bingles in this one. All right. I'll go Texans. I think they I mean they did they were basically kind of in a shootout with the Bills, and I think the Bills are a decently good team. I think the ⁓ Texans bounce back and put on a show. I think the ⁓ Texans defensive line and just defense is a little too much for the Bingles offensive line. Okay. So I just think the Bengals, I think their defense is sub sub substantial enough, and then their offense is just gonna be the high power offense. I Jamar Chase didn't do that well this week, but it's all gonna matter about how well the Bengals offensive line are is. I I last week with the Bucks like the Bucks really don't have too many scary defensive linemen. I mean, beat a Vea, but he wants out. So I'm kind of like, ⁓ how much do you try? Like, how much did he give it his all? And that's about all they got, I feel like. So I feel like the Texans, Will Anderson and all them guys are way better. Yeah. All right. Next game here, the Sunday afternoon slate. There's actually two games here. Jaguars at the Broncos. Broncos are a two and a half point favorite. And now we're watching the Broncos right now. They're doing okay against the Chiefs. It's seven seven in the second quarter. But I'm gonna tell you what, dude, the Jaguars got something this year. I don't know if it was just because they played the Browns last week or because Trevor Lawrence was playing really well. Or if they played the Browns. But I I think I'm gonna lean. I'm gonna go Jaguirs in this game. I'm taking another upset here. And ⁓ the only thing that could affect him is going into Denver and playing at that out. I'm going Broncos. Broncos hold a special place in my heart. I like the Broncos. I like Bo Nix and I like what Sean Payton is doing over there. Although I think they're gonna lose the game tonight, but I think they bounce back and put on a show against the Jags who've They also played the Browns and with Deshaun Watson starting. And I think I seen they had four or five starts where they started off like first and thirty, first and twenty or something. The Browns did, so Dude, the Browns are gonna be so bad. I told people whenever we talked about the Browns a couple weeks ago, I said this will be the only time we talk about the Browns and I think the only other reason they come up is if they're playing a team that is good. I feel like I feel so bad for Shador too, because I think he's a great athlete, but get out, Shador. If you're listening to this, get out as soon as possible. All right. So I think the worst three teams is actually the Browns, the Dolphins, and then the Titans. I'm not gonna disagree. Which one of those three is the worst? The Browns. I agree. I agree the Browns. I feel bad for Browns fans. That's tough one. Actually I saw the Browns are playing the Bucks next week and ⁓ it's a they're calling it the Baker Mayfield revenge game. Baker's gonna put a fifty on him if they play like Well apparently the Browns fans are are mad at Baker for leaving, even though he was like let go. Or I think he was traded. I don't remember. They traded him. They traded him to the worst team in the NFL at the time, the Carolina Panthers. Yeah, that's that's what ⁓ just the Browns fans are looking for any reason to watch a game this season. I mean Yeah. The Browns fans need to be mad at the ownership. I mean, God forbid you trade away the guy that took you to the playoffs for the first time in forever. All right, that's enough Browns talk. Yeah. I I said we weren't gonna talk about him. Next one here on the afternoon slate. The commanders at the Cowboys. The home opener for the Dallas Cowboys, Ethan. Cowboys are favored by three and a half. Now listen. Last week left a lot to be desired. I'm gonna try some reverse psychology. Give me the commanders. I'm I'm picking against the Cowboys every time this year. So Okay. I like that. We'll see if it works. Let's try something new. I always pick the Cowboys. Fuck it. Let's commanders. I'll say last week left a lot to be desired for the Cowboys. I'm just gonna chalk it up to last week. They were just kind of getting they were gelling together. They were figuring out. They got punched in the mouth last week by the Giants. I think this week they answer back and they win their home opener against the Commanders. Also, I'm in a fantasy football league with a bunch of Commanders fans. I really need the Cowboys to win this game. I I might have to leave the fantasy football group chat if if we do lose this one. I'm just gonna believe that we can get to five and and take them down. And also I just I just don't think the the Commanders are have a lot to be I don't know, they don't have a lot going on. They they lost Laramie Tunsil, their offensive lineman. ⁓ Gary Terry had like no receptions in the game against the Eagles until like the fourth quarter. I mean, they do have Stefan Diggs, so Yeah, I was about to say Stefan Diggs seems like the wide receiver one there in the Commanders. Like that was if you also got him in a fantasy football league, that w that was a steal as well. But I you know, listen, the Commanders get up to play the Cowboys and the Cowboys just need to get on the board. If they go ⁓ and two, it's gonna be a very dark season or at least start for the Cowboys. So we need to win this game. I'm taking the Cowboys. I I hope I'm right and I hope your your reverse cheeks works, Ethan. I do too. And like I said, I'm picking anyone but the Cowboys this year. See if it works. Moving on to the Monday night game here. Monday night it's the Giants at the Rams. And the Rams are a seven point favorite, even though they're missing Miles Garrett. I tell you what, dude, the Giants looked really good against the Cowboys. So good, in fact, I'm gonna take the Giants in this game. Yeah, I mean, there's something and not having Miles Garrett and Jackson Dark can turns out his running ability is a real scary factor. Like the Giants are gonna be very good. Now, do we see ⁓ Aaron Darnold here or and how much of him do we see? Like does he a couple of snaps and that's it or like And two I think it is gonna depend. If Aaron Darnold comes out there and has three tackles and a sack, like right off the bat, I think you leave him in and let him keep playing. Like you throw this like slow start out the window of getting him worked back in. Yeah, I will also say the Giants defense is very scary. And I almost so to where like you saw Matthew Stafford, we talked I talked about him getting flustered against the forty niners. I think we weren't gonna see that again with the Giants. The Giants have a like they're Defense just has a very quick energy. It it is they are all over the place. They are flying to the ball. They are making tackles. They're gonna be a problem. Arvell Reese is actually the real deal. Yeah. Now I hope this is a shootout, a fifty fifty game, 'cause I do have Matthew Stafford in fantasy, and if I get another four point game again, I may trade him away or cut him. Yeah, might have to move on and find someone else, so That is it for the NFL. Next we will take a quick break and we'll come back and do some college football. Or we're back to do some college football college football part of the podcast. So we're now wrapped up with the NFL. But there was some crazy college games that went down this past week. Some major upsets going on. We're gonna be talking about OU losing, Oregon losing, and the number one team. Ohio State losing to the number four team, Texas. Twenty four, twenty three is the final score. And ⁓ I guess I shouldn't say Texas is the number four team. The AP poll now has them as the number one team of the country. But going off this game here, so first thing I noticed about this game was the Texas turnovers. And the first 11 seconds, Texas fumbled the ball. And that was a little crazy because Ohio State got it, and then they only got a field goal out of it. And then there was another crazy interception that was. way down the field from Archbane to Cam Coleman, bounced off his chest as he was diving for the ball and goes into the Ohio State's ⁓ safeties hands. And that's when I texted Matt, I said, ⁓ Brody cot Brody Podcurs might be might be strike, and we both took Texas to win this game. And then Texas did something that has never been done before. They came back in the fourth quarter. They rallied from twenty points in the fourth quarter, twenty-three to three Is the largest comeback since two thousand and seven for Texas and is the largest fourth quarter comeback to win against an AP number one team. Absolute crazy stuff there. I mean, I think Shark and Texas, they ought to go into every game and say, Hey, spot our opponent twenty points. That way we can figure out how to play and we'll start playing a lot better than starting off zero zero. I mean, it was twenty three to three going in the fourth, and everyone just thought this game was over, including myself. It was Yeah, no. But even last year, like Texas would always be down. Like Texas should have probably lost four or five games last year. They were down entering the fourth quarter and they come back to win. Like this isn't a surprising, like, new thing for Texas. Like they have been the team last year, and it looks like starting off this year to where You're gonna have three quarters where they may not look very good at all. And then all of a sudden in the fourth quarter, they figure out how to play football, come together and pull out the win. Yeah, and I w I will say a lot of this falls on Ohio State as well. Like, yes, Texas did a good job completing this comeback, but if you're talking about just the three quarters of football, Ohio State dominated this game. Julian Saiyan was was hitting targets. Jeremiah Smith was out there making some crazy catches. It seemed like everything was going Ohio State's way, especially with those two crazy turnovers. And then going into the fourth quarter, OSU, their kicker. Connor Hawkins. I feel bad for him. He missed a field goal. I think there was a I can't remember how much time was left, but it would basically would have put the game away. It would have made it twenty six to like three or something. ⁓ he missed a forty seven yard field goal, hooked it to the left. And you know what, Ethan? This might be something that Ohio State needs to start vetting a little bit more is their kickers. Yes. Do you I don't know if you I went and did some research if you're about to bring up the kicks. ⁓ well, I'm about to bring up a story, but go ahead. No, go ahead. Go with your story. So if you remember back in the day, there's another team that had a ⁓ kicking problem in the Big Twelve called Texas Tech. And they did their home games. They would do like bring random people in to kick a field goal for scut like money and all. And the dude hit like a thirty, forty yard field goal. The fan kicking contest. Yes, the fan kicking contest. And Mike Leach told the equipment staff that hey, don't let that guy leave the field. And he became their like kicker and actually was a damn good kicker for Texas Tech too. Yeah, well I also maybe Ohio State needs to do some ⁓ let some fans come down and kick at halftime and see what they can do. Yeah, well I okay, I guess this brings up another thing that I was gonna bring up. You I'll f I'll finish the Ohio State ⁓ I'll bring this up first. I'll bring this up first. I don't know if anyone watches the Pat McAfee kicking contest. That happens every college football Saturday. They need to start just giving these kids one opportunity to make I I agree. Especially with that much money, like if you're taking the pressure on giving them two tries. That and if you're gonna if you want like if you pick someone else from the crowd too. Like pick if You kick, you miss. ⁓ well, you want another shot at ⁓ another kick, then you pick someone else and see if they can do it. And the segment is the segment is like kickers, they're it's a tough job, but if you give ⁓ two tries, you don't get two tries in the FL. No, you don't get two tries anyway. Yeah. No. And so it's it's always funny. Now I did see in the comments people like when it's your money, you can make the rules and do what you want to do. So I, you know, Pat McF you want to do. I'm just saying if you want better T V Put a little more pressure on these kids. Make it one kick. Make it like you want a million dollars? You gotta make this kick. And the fact that, you know, the I think it was a kid from Texas. He hooked it way right. He was a lefty. Yeah. And ⁓ they were, you know Pat Max even said before the segment, he's like, No more like second chances, you get one chance. Then he lied, dude. I mean, like, how can I trust you on TV if you're just gonna lie and say, Okay, yeah, we are gonna give you a second kick? And I get it when the fans are chanting like one more try, one more try, like, no dude. Give ⁓ one try and put the actual pressure on. Yeah. Then when that kid does make it for the first time, people are gonna go even crazier. Maybe they can't. Now it's almost like expected. Like I'm anytime I'm watching now, I'm like, okay, if this kid misses, at least he's gonna get a second opportunity. Now, don't get me wrong, there's some opp there's some times when the kid misses twice. But maybe Ohio State needs to go and find some kickers from that contest, especially the ones that make it on the first try. ⁓ exactly. Yeah. No, they definitely need to figure out something. But Back to what I was saying about Oklahoma Oklahoma. Back to what I was saying about Ohio State needing to vet their kickers. So yeah, I talked about Connor Hawkins missing the kick in the fourth quarter for Ohio State. It would have put a you know, kinda game out of out of reach for Texas to come back. ⁓ this actually goes back a little bit. So in twenty twenty five, Jaden Fielding missed a forty five yard field goal in the Big Ten Championship. ⁓ and, you know, was a tight game there and Ohio State ended up losing to Indiana. Not to mention Jaden Fielding also missed two kicks and a narrow game against Michigan in 2024 and a 13 10 loss. Also very close game, could have helped him win there. And then going all the way back to the 2022 Peach Bowl, the college football playoff semifinal, Noah Ruggles missed a 50 yard game winning field goal that would have sent Ohio State to the national championship. It just seems like maybe they need to start vetting their kickers a little bit. Yeah, they are lacking in the ⁓ kicking program there at Ohio State. That's c I didn't realize like all the ⁓ all the crazy moments that they've had to win games. Like these are like big games. Like they lost a semifinal in the college football playoffs. They lost to Michigan. People call it the game. They lost the Big Ten championship the following year, and now they lose to the number four team in the country on a kick. Yeah. Maybe like are they You gotta put pressure on these guys at practice. Like you gotta make it like a pressure practice for ⁓ at least. Maybe start making ⁓ kick further away or putting like stuff on the line, like, hey, your team's gonna stuff out of them. Your team's gonna have to run like forty miles before y'all could be done with practice. Like unless you make this Ify come out there and offer ⁓ a million dollars. Yeah, like something like that to put some pressure on them so when they do get these situations and a pressure situation or whatever, it's ⁓ it's a little bit more Actually they should have just had their kicker run out there for the ⁓ kicking contest 'cause they were in Austin. Yeah. The college football or college game day. Well they could have just ran their kicker out there and said, like, make your kick in front of all these Texas fans. Also here's a million dollars. That would have been the pressure they needed to go into the game. You know, Pac McFee would've kept a million dollars. But I don't want to get too much on the kicker listing. He's just a kid and it sucks when they when these college kickers miss, but like that has to be the most stressful job because if you make it you're a hero. If you if you miss it, the whole school hates you. Yeah. And you don't have like many chances to like make it right or people forget. Like quarterback, you throw interception, you'd probably throw in thirty, forty, fifty more times. So people forget. Kicker, kick what, maybe seven times a game? Well, so he was He was three for four on the day. But everyone's only going to talk about that one that he was. Exactly. So insane stuff there. ⁓ moving on to the other game here. Also shout out ⁓ Texas did not storm the field. That was actually kind of classy of them. I think their whole like student assistants and everyone that was on the sideline stormed the field, but none of the fans actually stormed the field from the from the stadium. So, you know, talk about like act like you've been here before and act like you're going back. Yeah, but I like when you storm the field though. Like I think that's like that's college tradition. Like Well that would have been a good game too, storm the field. If you upset a team and all, yes, storm the field. But like what was it last week where they stormed the field on Michigan storming against Western Michigan? Yeah, like that. Now that team? Yeah, now that is not like field storming worthy. Yeah. Like You're supposed to blow this team out of the water, do you don't? And then you beat ⁓ by one that was very controversy that you probably shouldn't have maybe won the game. And then you storm the field like Ethan, you're welcome to come on the podcast anytime. I am one of the ⁓ I'm a I'm a harsh critic when it comes to field field storming. You gotta have a good reason to. I think you'd like if you're not ranked in the top twenty five and you beat a top twenty five team, sure, go ahead go ahead and storm the field if you want. If you're ranked twenty five, you better beat a top ten opponent if you're storming the field. Not like an eighteen beating a thirteen. Well, I think to storm the field, like if you beat a top twenty, top fifteen, like top fifteen and you're not in the top twenty five, then yeah, storm the field. But if you beat like a top, I mean, twenty five like twenty that twenty to twenty five. The twenty to twenty five range, I'm like, I guess unless you're like a like In the Mac or something. Yeah, small, small school, then yes. But if you're a big school and you beat if like I don't know, let's say what is it? Arizona State beats a Virginia that's top twenty five, that Virginia's t twenty fifth. Like, all right, no, ⁓ let's not storm the field there. Like Yeah. That's for good reason. Yeah. Good energy for it. Yeah, no, I agree. ⁓ speaking of Michigan. They did beat number eleven Oklahoma, seventeen to ten. And I said I'm the biggest Michigan hater, like, for the rest of the year after what happened against Western Michigan and the one second and the storm of the field against ⁓ I didn't really care about the one second, I just cared about the field storming. They didn't rush the field this year this week against Oklahoma. They beat ⁓ seventeen ten for the top eleven opponent. They didn't storm. I was like, if th if this was a game if you're if you're gonna storm this is the game to storm, they didn't do it. Yeah. Like they got it backwards up in Michigan. Yeah, they sh I guess they're I don't want to take a shot at Michigan education system, but yeah. Shout out Michigan. We win the game and not storm the field. Yeah. And a top fifteen, top twelve opponent. Like Yeah. At that. I did talk to an Oklahoma fan and ⁓ they're just not impressed with the offense and they're really worried now about this Texas and Oklahoma game. They're like the offense needs to get figured out. The defense is elite, the offense needs to get it figured out. And I I will say the Michigan Oklahoma game left a lot to be desired. Wasn't wasn't a lot of scoring until late in the game, but Yeah, it was it was a good matchup for eleven AM. We we had good matchups. Yeah. I mean, it wasn't a total blowout. It was kind of a close ish game. I mean, ten nothing all the way up until the third quarter. So no, it didn't get popping until late the game. So Michigan. I tell you now they say it's not a fluke. I tell you a game which we're not gonna talk about. I'm just gonna bring it up here for a second that I thought was gonna be a lot closer. I think it was fourteen thirteen at halftime. around the halftime and that's the Alabama, Kentucky, and then I w see the ⁓ yeah. And then I see it afterwards and it is ⁓ forty five seventeen and I was like I thought for a second there people were kind of worried about Alabama. Yeah. I saw the fa I saw the coach for Kentucky had come out and said like, hey guys, we need to we need to make sure the fans are in this building an hour before he's like, I want them in there when Alabama's warming up, yelling at yelling obscenities at him. Hey, that's what you gotta do. Get in the head. Yeah, you gotta try and mess them up where you can. ⁓ speaking of a team that did storm the field of a good field storming, this is gets my Birdie Pod seal of approval for field storming. Oklahoma State beat number six Oregon, 39 31, and what people are saying is a shootout. They did rush the field and they did take down the goalposts, and they did take those goal posts to some pond or river around the campus. Probably the fastest a goalpost has ever been removed from a football stadium. See what Oklahoma State. They've they've been fiending to storm the field. They if any team deserves to storm the field, it is Oklahoma State. Let's just put it that way. Especially against especially against a a high ranked team in Oregon when they lost to I don't and it's Oklahoma State people listen to the podcast. They lost to Tulsa last week and they were kind of, you know, doom and gloom on the season. This kind of brings you right back to it. I I thought we were gonna have Oklahoma State of last year whenever they lost to Tulsa. I was like and especially watching the game, like quarterback didn't look good, defense didn't look good and everything, and they turned it around week two. Now, maybe we need to send in like game tape contacts to Jerry Jones and to say, hey Get ⁓ Schottenheimer to talk to Eric Morris and figure out how they turn their program. They turned it around from week one to week two. Yeah, just let's see about doing that. Maybe it wouldn't be a hard call. Speaking of turning around and the Brody Pod logo this week, I'll go ahead and say it. Normally I I picked this later in the week, but I will tell you right now, Drew Mestermaker had one of the coolest pictures come out of this game where he's actually hurtling an Oregon State or Oregon defender. ⁓ actually went off in this game, had three hundred seventeen pass yards, two touchdowns. Hundred nine rushing yards and a crunch down there as well. I do want to say the picture, the Brody of the Pot Week picture, is a picture of yeah, Drew Messmaker jumping into the end zone after or I guess before that it looked like some Oregon player number fifteen died on the field. Yeah, no, it was it was it's a sick photo. It might be already in running for like photo of the year. And no one checked on fifteen until like after like later on. No, I would say like this is the Oklahoma State win of the year, especially for Eric Morrison and Drew Mastermaker. This is like their signature win already. Being a Texas Tech fan, and I mean, we're gonna be going to that game. Yeah, we're going to the the Tech and Oklahoma State game. In November, I am worried to death that the roles are going to be reversed from last year's game and that we are going to be getting beat down like breaking news. If you have Kenneth Walker on your team, by the way, he just had like a seventy yard rushing touchdown. That's for sure. Did you were you playing against him? Yep. So sorry to hear that. Yeah, it was that was an incredible run. Hmm. Chiefs might be a problem this sea this season. Chiefs are Chiefs or the Chiefs. Chiefs are chiefing. Yeah, tonight he's got a hundred and forty nine rushing yards, one touchdown, and this is the start of the third quarter. Yeah. He's he's going for it now. Twenty one seven. Yeah, twenty one seven. But yeah, no, we talked about we talked about Arch Manning, Steve Hut Sarkeesian getting their like signature win against Ohio State, probably the best of their career so far. ⁓ this is the signature win Frederic Morse had injury mess maker in. And honestly, yes, I'm as Big Twelve, like once Big Twelve plays starting now as a tech fan, I would be worried about Oklahoma State. Especially the way we have looked the past two weeks. Wait a way to tease a little bit here, Ethan. We're gonna get into Some some upcoming college football matchups. But ⁓ real quick, just running through the AP poll. So it did change a little bit from this week. So Texas obviously moves into number one. I was actually shocked that they moved into number one. They jumped three spots. ⁓ House State fell all the way to five. And then some other big movements that happened. BYU jumped all the way up to eleven. Texas Texas State, where they were at thirteen. And then Michigan, who was unranked. They were ranked in week one. They were unranked in week two. And now they are back to nineteen. So, and then Oregon drops all the way back to twenty-one. Now we're still a ways from the college football playoffs rankings coming out, but AP polls a good just like feeler where where these teams are at. But getting into some college football week three, the biggest matchups that I found. We're gonna start off here, Ethan. We're just talking about Texas Tech here a little bit. Number twenty two, Houston. comes to Lubbock to play number 13 Texas Tech Friday night. You mentioned it before. Texas Tech has not looked impressive in these first two games. They have not. I don't know. Houston has looked impressive. Yes, they have. And I don't know if Tex just worried about Will Hammond and not wanting to open up the full offense or if it was just two non division like non conference opponents. They don't want to open up the playbook and show too many of their cards, but to me Tech's offense has looked very stale, has looked very like non impressive. And the defense has just I mean, defensive line has looked okay. Linebackers looked okay. But the defensive backs have looked horrible. Like I'm pretty sure me and you can go out there and run routes and beat them. I don't know. I don't know about like I feel like me and I was watching the game with some people and we were talking about like either Oregon State has the fastest receivers in college football or RDBs are just getting burnt and aren't the best. But that's just me overreacting. I was just saying there was some crazy weather in the Oregon State game. I did see it was like raining and then it wasn't raining. Yeah, that can always affect things as well. But I think this is the first real test against Houston for Texas Tech. ⁓ this is the only ranked matchup. So far on the schedule. Now, some of these other Big Twelve teams could end up getting ranked, but this is the only ranked matchup that you can see on their schedule right now. As far as college football playoffs are concerned, if if tech wants to make a real run at this, this is a game you need to win. I know, like, even if you lose this game, you can you can still make it to the Big Twelve Championship. You can still get an auto bid. But as far as seating, this is a game you need to win. Against a ranked bat. This is this is gonna be one that the college football playoff committee looks back and says, Okay, how'd you do in this game? And also for Houston. This could be a way that they shoot themselves and elevate their way up into a a cost football playoff bid. Like this is this is a big game for both teams. It's gonna have some real big big twelve implications along the lines. Yeah, I'm ⁓ I'm curious to see how this game goes. I hope it's a good game. I hope I mean what tech is favored by what, seven, seven and a half. ⁓ let's see, what are they what are they favored? I got it up right here. Tech's has a seventy five percent chance of winning. Yeah, tech is favored by seven and a half in this game. ⁓ yeah, seven a half. Yeah, so hopefully I mean hopefully we come out and play. Hopefully it's just like I said, hopefully they are kind of not wanting to show too many cards to non conference play teams and they come out and we look really good. Yeah. I am glad that this is a Friday night game too. Like I feel like that helps with like the crowd and the energy and stuff. Like Lubbock's gonna be rocking, especially as a night game. ⁓ I don't know if they're doing anything special with the fans, but I I do know like, you know, night games, your fans are gonna be a little louder, a little rowdier. Might be able to help offset some of that Houston coming as a rank. As as tech, this is a game you need to win. And Houston, this is a game that if you win this, you're gonna be on a lot of people's radar. Moving on to the next game here, number sixteen, SMU taking on number twenty-three, Louisville, and the Saturday afternoon slate. This is a ACC. Big battle here actually, probably for the ACC. Both these teams have looked so impressive. Louisville I've actually been kind of very impressed with. SMU kind of, you know, they've had some struggles, especially like turning the ball over and stuff. This is a game that this is also gonna be whoever wins this probably gonna be in the driver's seat for the ACC along with Miami. So I I I think I lean towards Louisville in this game, just 'cause being at home, SMU hasn't been super impressive, but Obviously, like being from Dallas, like I'd like to see SMU do well in this game. I don't know. They I mean two and ⁓ they look have looked pretty good. They have the stud of a receiver and Jalen Hale, who's put on a performance last week. So I think ⁓ I don't know, I think SMU's Yeah. Kind of the real deal. Louisville looked very impressive against Old Miss. I think that's the only reason I'm going with Louisville here. I'm like they were able to hang in there Old Miss and have an absolute shootout, like That's a that's a team I'd be worried about. Yeah. I mean Louisville is pretty good and I think this game right here will kind of determine each team on how well they'll do in the ACC. Like SME wins right here. May you beat a top twenty five team, a com a co in conference team, so Dude, this is why I love week three of college football. We start getting these like matchups actually. There's no more playing like these small schools and blowing them out. Like now we're getting into conferen other than ⁓ I think Ohio State and Texas are playing nobody or I don't want to say nobody's, but they're not playing like conference, yeah. 'Cause they just played their big game last week. So they haven't had their two tune up games yet. Yeah. Yeah. Texas plays ⁓ UT San Antonio. Yeah, UTSA. Yeah. Shout out shout out the Roadrunners. I do know I do have a friend that was a UTSA, so was a roadrunner. ⁓ moving on here to the Saturday night game. Probably what I'm gonna call, I'm gonna go ahead and say it now. Game of the week. Game of the week in college football. Number seven, LSU taking on number eight, Old Miss. This is Lane Kiffin's return to Old Miss since he left them in the middle of the college football playoffs with no coach. Pete Golding had to take over. That place is going to be rocking. I can't wait to watch this game. This is I and I will stop whatever I'm doing and watch this game. Yes. Like I feel like Kiffin thought that it was bad going back to Tennessee whenever he went to Ole Miss and was getting stuff thrown at him. Like I feel like it's gonna be ten times worse Saturday night. Like there I my prediction is they stopped the game to pick up stuff on the field. I think it'll be that right, especially if like I said, be at a night game. Crowd's gonna be louder, a little rowdier. And ⁓ yeah, I think LSU is opening up as a three point favorite in this game. Yeah. Which just tells you how close this game's gonna be. I mean, this is a seven taking on an eight. It's a revenge game for both. Lane Kiffin obviously wants to take down Old Miss. He has college football playoff aspirations. Old Miss wants to prove that we didn't need Lane Kiffin. We're ⁓ we're good without him. He's coming back to us. I did see the ⁓ Louisiana governor, Jeff Landry. ⁓ went on one of the college football shows and was talking about that ⁓ he's asking for some southern hospitality from old miss. He's ⁓ saying we might need to up security. We might have to get F eighteens to fly in with the team. We might have to hire like military personnel for security. Like they're they're worried about, you know, Lane Kip and making his return and and everything being safe. Obviously we don't want anything bad happening Lane Kiff. No, we definitely don't want I don't want anything bad to happen, but I do want to see stuff thrown at him and like the entertainment aspect. I will tell you. There is not gonna be any southern ho hospitality for from Ole Miss to Lan Kiffin. It's it's it's a revenge game for both of you and this is gonna be a I'm pretty sure the only hospital southern hospitality that's gonna be given that's gonna be anywhere close to being nice is telling him that he's number one. Yeah. And not with your pointer finger either. So that's probably gonna be the nicest thing that happens to him. I did see Lane Kiffin said he's not too concerned with how the fans are gonna be in this game. He's ⁓ he's said basically to the players, like, you guys don't have to worry about this, all you gotta do is worry about and play football. I mean, but I mean if I was a player for Lane Kiffin, I'd be like, I'm taking this personally. And if I was a player for Ole Miss, I'd be like I'm taking this personally. Like this game's gonna have some some bad blood between these teams. Yeah, it definitely is. Because and two, especially for Ole Miss with him leaving in the playoffs, and then he kind of lied about how he left. Like the players came out and like Yeah, no, he never left, like saying I think he wanted to stay or some something in the meeting that he was saying didn't line up, like was a all a lie that he turned out chamberless. Yeah. Like it's gotta be and who knows how, you know, he feels about Lane Kiff, and obviously like that was his coach, but he didn't leave him and and went to another school. Not to mention, just outside of all this stuff, LSU and Mississippi are just right next to each other, man. They're just gonna be They're already just bad blood being like neighbors and stuff. So it's gonna be a real good SEC football game. I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be some bad blood. So this if this could be game of the year if it's not a blowout. Like if it's close, definitely gonna be game of the year. Just because of the atmosphere, I think, and you know how the hype is. I don't even know where college game day has announced that they're gonna be. I'll tell you, they're gonna be at this game. No, I think they've n no, I think everyone knew I mean, they're definitely gonna be there. Everyone knew that as soon as they seen this matchup, where college game day is gonna be. I'm pretty sure they said they were going there before the season started. Actually I can I can do college game day track or let's see where they're gonna be. Locations for week three. Yeah, it's L S U oldness in Oxford. Is it telling me week four? It doesn't say week four. So they just announced it week as. Yeah, probably to see how well like the teams play. Like you can't say Anytime there's a big ranked matchup like this. Let's see if I can predict where Or they'll be for week four. They could be in Knoxville. Texas, Tennessee, depending on how well Tennessee does. ⁓ Probably it's the night games though, right? ⁓ it could be ⁓ it's gonna be Texas A and ⁓ and L S U. Yeah, Texas. Oregon USC. ⁓ dude, next week four is gonna be really good college football. It may be A and ⁓ L S G well, depending on what happens. If LSU loses, then maybe not. But if I can see it being Texas, Tennessee too. That's actually already tough. It's gonna be one of the two, I believe. Depending on what happens this week. Who does Tennessee play this week? ⁓ Tennessee plays let's see here. Tennessee plays Kennesaw State. Yeah. They were by thirty-five and a half. Yeah, so it'll be Tennessee, Texas, or A ⁓ Miz. Do you got a prediction for LSU Ole Miss? I I'll probably say LSU. I feel like they may have a little bit up the edge with better players, but you can never count I mean, I don't know. I'll I'll probably say L S U. So good quarterback play. I want Ole Miss to win, but I'll say LSU. I think I'm gonna say Old Miss. I I only just cause Trinidad Chambless. I see yeah. Lane Kiffin isn't gonna be on the field. He's not playing. He's he ain't strapped up. I mean that is true, yes. But I I feel like LSU has a better team. Yeah. With all the transfers. I I wouldn't be shocked if L SU won, but I I I think being at home for Old Miss, I think that that might give him a little bit of an edge. That does give him an edge. If this game was at LSU, I would go ahead and say LSU all the way. Where do we know where the student section is? At Ole Miss. Is it behind LSU, the visitors? ⁓ no, I don't know that I don't know. I have boots on the ground like that. Let's see if we can If it's behind I'm telling you, they are they're stopping this game. They're gonna have to stop the game. North end of the stadium is what I found. So doesn't like it's like behind the sidelines at all. They should move it for this game. They definitely should. Also just another good game I saw. Apparently Michigan State, Notre Dame. That's gonna be on NBC 630 as well. So I think everyone's gonna be watching LSU Ole Miss. Yeah, everyone. Everyone in them, yeah. Unless it's a blowout. ⁓ Mahomes just threw interception. This game's gonna be closer than we thought. All right, Ethan, let's let's wrap up the show here. Let's finish off with Brody's of the week. And ⁓ you go ahead and start 'cause we did talk about it a little bit. All right. I'm Brody of the Week. Is Eric Morris in the Oklahoma State ⁓ Cowboys. They ⁓ with that big bounce back win last week, I seen a few stats. Actually one that was pretty interesting first ever. Oklahoma State is the first team in FBS history that has snapped a l losing streak longer than ten like a ten game losing streak and beat a top ten FBS opponent. That's impressive. Which is pretty impressive. And I see why they stormed the field so well now. Yeah. And I did see where also Oklahoma State's win snaps a Oregon twelve game road win streak, which has been the longest active road streak in FBS so far in history. Yeah. So two two big streaks snapped. Yeah. I actually I said ⁓ Oklahoma State was good at field storming, like Turns out they don't get to do it often, so I'm really shocked now that they had a good field storming. Shout out Oklahoma State. Shout out Caitlin and Luke. Shout out Wolf. Yeah, shout out Wolf. All the Oklahoma State guys. Yeah. We'll see if they really watch this and send us the tags. Moving on here, my Brody of the week goes to Marty Wims the second. I'd say, who the heck is Marty? Well, turns out he's a longtime season ticket holder for the Akron zips, and he won the season ticket fan contest to call and script the opening drive for Akron against Robert Morris this past weekend. He worked with head coach Joe Moorhead, crazy name for head coach, to design the opening drive. There was video of them going around ⁓ them studying the film for the game and coming up with plays. I think they came up with a script of 20 plays for the opening drive just to have. You might be asking, so how'd he do as the offensive coordinator? Well, out of those twenty plays, he only got to run four of them. ⁓ he gained twenty-one yards and three plays, was actually kind of move or moved along at a pretty good clip. But then quarterback Sebastian Broughton dropped back on a third and six, hit his receiver Marcel Williams, who was a second team all Mac last season for a short game. But then Williams fumbled the ball and Robert Morris recovered ending Wims' chances as the offensive coordinator. I did see Wims had some great coaching advice from one of the best that morning. From Nick Saban. Yes. Nick Saban gave him some coaching advice on college game day whenever they videoed in. Yeah, actually I had the ⁓ I had the advice that Nick Saban gave him. So Okay, cool. Nick Saban told Wims three tips for his play calling debut. Number one, get the call in early. Get it in for that play call kick zero. Number two, stay ahead of the sticks. Run the ball. All right. Run the ball, line it up. And number three, don't get cute. But if you're gonna get cute, throw a damn flea flicker. The fans will love it. Ain't that the truth, man? I mean, that's just some great coaching wisdom right there. Yeah, that's all coach I or Nick Saban gives me that. I'm gonna go be a Hall of Fame coach right there. Turns out the rest of Akron probably heard it as well. The rest of the Akron's coaching staff, because Akron did go on to win the game forty five to ten. But man, I wanna know what could have been with Wims. And being a longtime season ticket holder, that just has to be like a a dream come true for him. So shout out ⁓ Marty. I I did see they let him like run out with the team and all like it was a whole ordeal. It's yeah, they they did a really good job documenting it. I'm not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous. I wish I could do something like that. Yeah, and not to mention ⁓ This was like a contest to sell more season tickets for Akron. They sold out of their season ticket suites and a record of new season ticket membership. So this works and more college teams should do this. Especially like I think this was a game they were projected to win by a lot. Yeah. I mean you do this week one, week one, week two, whenever you're playing the nobody schools. And not to mention like this he actually took it kind of serious. Like he went and studied film with the coach and and kind of got some advice on like what to script up so It wasn't like, dude, if it was me out there, dude, I'm just running some jet sweeps. Right. I'm gonna run some wildcat. I'm gonna get I'm gonna get a little crazy with it. I'm gonna I'm gonna do what Nick Saban tells me not to do. I'm gonna get cute with it. I'm gonna fake punt on fourth down and be like p I'm gonna fake punt on first down. Yeah. I'm gonna line up for the punt and just have my kicker be like it turns out it's my running back and he's going he's going to the house. So That would be hilarious. Any other FPS schools wanna reach out to Brody Pod, let me know. I'll call your opening drive. Yes. I'll call your de I'll call your defense too. I'll do I'll get I'll get in the trenches. Whatever you need. I'll call anything you want. Don't worry. Just Yeah. Special teams, hey, we get I got you. No, we'll go we'll go we're going for one. I'll put the I'll put the finger up. Yeah.
