- 0:00Get laced up! Let's go! Yo, yo, welcome back
- 0:16to Banter with the Boys Gridiron Updates. This
- 0:19is week nine of the NFL season already. Rob Font
- 0:25and his Minnesota Vikings, and as well as our
- 0:27guest Dan with the J .J. McCarthy jersey as he's
- 0:31starting this week. But don't worry, we'll get
- 0:33after that. Dan, welcome back to the pod, bud.
- 0:37Dude, it's great to be back. Dan was on the pod
- 0:39last year, and we also coach. The same ice with
- 0:44you. Yep. Shout out to all those coaches. Shout
- 0:46out my family. Shout out my nephews. That's awesome.
- 0:50Welcome back, coach. Dude, for real. Yeah, I'm
- 0:54excited you're here. Appreciate it, Rob. Yeah,
- 0:55man, it's good to see you again, and I can't
- 0:57wait to talk some football. Yeah, buddy. Yeah,
- 1:00I think you were in our top five. Was he in your
- 1:03top five? Top five in points last year. Last
- 1:05point, I think. I was top five? Maybe. We'll
- 1:07have to look at it. I think he was pretty good.
- 1:09If you want to find out, hit that preview episode
- 1:12for week nine. We're ace in the hole today. Let's
- 1:16do it. Before, oh, obviously, Rob. Hey, how are
- 1:18you? What up? Hey, I'm here. I'm back. Co -host
- 1:21Rob. He's here. Thanks again to our, I mean,
- 1:25almost honorary co -host this season, Jake, for
- 1:28coming in clutch the last number of many weeks.
- 1:31So, Jake, thank you for your service. Word, Jake.
- 1:36He will be back this season. Don't worry about
- 1:37it. His Ravens getting a win. We'll talk about
- 1:40them here in a minute. Obviously, I'm smelty
- 1:42as well. If you watch the show, you're probably
- 1:46used to my voice, whether it's the show. or Fast
- 1:49Laps, the Formula One show. Kev, also here every
- 1:52episode, behind the cameras, getting everything
- 1:54done for us. Making sure you can hear us. Thank
- 1:57you for everything, Kev. The legend. The myth.
- 2:03Let's move right into it. Our week 8 game recaps,
- 2:07Kev. Recap. And, of course, we're going to start
- 2:17with our Vikes this week. Wow, that was rough.
- 2:22It was rough. Thursday night, and I don't know
- 2:25about you guys, I had to work Friday morning,
- 2:27so it just sucks going to work after that. Oh,
- 2:30yeah. Do you need a little hair on the dog after
- 2:32that? Just sucks. 37 -10, Chargers getting the
- 2:37win. Now, the part of me that's a Chargers fan
- 2:39is like, wow, that looks really awesome. At least
- 2:42he admits he's a Chargers fan, finally. I've
- 2:45admitted it multiple times. Do you listen to
- 2:48the show, Rob? Nah, if I had my own podcast,
- 2:50I would know. Yeah, you would know. Dan, you're
- 2:54a Vikes fan. What happened here, man? I kind
- 2:58of expected it, to be honest. I think Jim Harbaugh
- 3:01is – I'm sorry. I just think Carson Wentz is
- 3:05older and kind of outmatched for sure at this
- 3:09point in his career. Still a great guy. And I
- 3:12think Jim Harbaugh has the recipe to beat a good
- 3:14team as he is a great coach. Well, now – Sorry.
- 3:20No, you're good. He'll continue to do very well
- 3:23with the run game, which he has. He's completely
- 3:25restructured that offensive line, and that has
- 3:28a lot to do with their success in a very tough
- 3:30division. So, like I said, good coach, and it
- 3:34was going to be a tall task going to Los Angeles
- 3:36anyway. For us to come up short, 27 points still
- 3:41sucks, you know. You'd like it to be a closer
- 3:43game. But at the same time, with what we're given
- 3:46at this point, like I said, Carson wins. It is
- 3:50okay. And you mentioned Carson once a couple
- 3:53times, so we might as well just touch on it.
- 3:55I mean, dude was obviously playing injured like
- 3:56half the game. Yes, yes. As I know, I found that
- 3:59out. And may have allegedly hurt himself in London.
- 4:03So it's just like. At what point, and I guess
- 4:07it was more of Carson's decision, as we hear,
- 4:10that he wanted to stay in the game as long as
- 4:12he possibly can. Who knows? Is this his last
- 4:15shot? Who knows? Especially with KFC kind of
- 4:18being that alleged quarterback, resurrector,
- 4:21if you will. All the best to him. He just had
- 4:26surgery, so we'll see if he's back in purple
- 4:29or not. even in the league or not, you know,
- 4:33next year. Did he show you enough? Do you think
- 4:34somebody would pick him up, be a backup still?
- 4:36I mean, for sure. I think, you know, he's 32.
- 4:39You said he was old. I was like, how old is he
- 4:42actually? He's not very old, actually. Is he,
- 4:44what, your age? So you're old officially? I'm
- 4:4628. Okay, okay, okay. Once I hit 30. Yeah, Kevin,
- 4:51if you want to pop up. I mean, this game all
- 4:53started off on the wrong foot. The momentum changed.
- 4:57So if Kevin wants to drop that video, that Isaiah
- 4:59Rogers. drop well i think we can consider it
- 5:03at this point um it looks like he on that play
- 5:05right there from that angle looks like a good
- 5:07clean catch and Good start of the game. I'm having
- 5:10good vibes and everything. And then they replayed
- 5:12it. We have a second video coming up here, too,
- 5:14at a little different angle. You can see he caught
- 5:17it, but then he readjusted kind of as he was
- 5:21going to the ground. And then he lost control
- 5:23of it. And then after that, you can kind of see
- 5:26where you had it. And then you can see the ball
- 5:28come loose and kind of pop up into his chest,
- 5:31which I consider an incomplete pass at this point.
- 5:35And then we just had a really tough game. keeping
- 5:38Herbert in the pocket. He really extended a bunch
- 5:41of plays with his feet. I don't know how many
- 5:45yards he ended up on. 62 yards on the ground.
- 5:48It was always in a moment when they needed a
- 5:52first down or a couple extra yards in a scenario.
- 5:55Our front four did not get much pressure on them.
- 5:59Our blitzes, we tried, but they just feel like
- 6:02you said, Harbaugh kind of had our number. They
- 6:05ran a lot in the middle. They really picked us
- 6:07apart. through the middle. Vidal, their backup
- 6:10running back, had 117 yards. Yeah, yeah. Missed
- 6:13tackles. It was just a bad overall day. Losing
- 6:17Van Ginkle really hurts. It really does. I totally
- 6:20agree with that. And Ivan Pace at this point,
- 6:22is he going to play? He kind of benched him at
- 6:24this point. I mean, ever since that, he's been
- 6:28missing tackles throughout the season. And that
- 6:30Eagles game a couple weeks ago was a real highlight.
- 6:32Throw out Jefferson, though. He got his 8 ,000.
- 6:37yards passing the youngest player to do so. Congratulations.
- 6:40That's awesome. Beat another Viking, Mr. Ron
- 6:42Moss. Nine for 13 on third downs, 29 first downs.
- 6:48I thought he just missed it, but maybe I'm wrong.
- 6:51Maybe I'm thinking of a different one. There's
- 6:53so many different records out there. They can
- 6:54come up with any direction. First team, teams
- 6:58won by three points with a northeast wind. Of
- 7:01course, we've got to move on here in just a second.
- 7:03The only thing I want to say really is The Vikings
- 7:06once again struggled to stop the run. It seems
- 7:09to be a massive issue for them right now. They
- 7:12are 1, 2, 3, 4. Top 10 worst teams and rushing
- 7:18yards a game right now defensively. Again, L
- 7:23.A. will do. pull a running back kind of out
- 7:25of nowhere and get it done after they continue
- 7:28to lose them. So, like you said, there's something
- 7:30to be said about Harbaugh's system over there.
- 7:32It's obviously working. They're starting to catch
- 7:34a stride. And, you know, that really just put
- 7:37on display what they can do against a Brian Flores
- 7:40defense that we can say is struggling right now
- 7:43at this point in the season. We've seen plenty
- 7:45of games where it hasn't quite gone the Vikings
- 7:48way. I think you can say that the Chargers did
- 7:53kind of find themselves offensively, and it'll
- 7:55be curious to see how they look going forward.
- 7:58We do need to move on, though, of course. Yeah,
- 8:02we can move on. We could talk for a long time
- 8:04about the Vikings. Yeah, that stinks. But moving
- 8:08right along here, we're talking about the Cowboys
- 8:11traveling to the Denver Broncos. The Broncos
- 8:14getting the win 44 -24. Rob, we'll start with
- 8:20you. What did you see right off the bat here
- 8:23in the Broncos -Cowboys game? I mean, it was
- 8:26like Nick threw an early interception, so I thought
- 8:28it was going to be a competitive game. But then
- 8:29after that, Denver just kind of put a whoop into
- 8:32him. He ended up throwing four tutties. And then
- 8:35I think we have a video up here of RJ. Harvey
- 8:40starting to come into his own. He ended up with,
- 8:42would you say, three touchdowns earlier, total
- 8:44touchdowns. They averaged 4 .5 yards a carry.
- 8:47And Dallas' defense just kind of collapsed. And
- 8:51they got far behind. And Denver's got one of
- 8:53the best top five, top ten defenses in the league.
- 8:57And they shut down Lamb. George Pickens pretty
- 9:01well and no running game at all out of the Cowboys.
- 9:05So, yeah, it was tough to see. But Broncos. Looking
- 9:10good. And again, the Cowboys had a chance later
- 9:13in that game when they were able to bring it
- 9:16within 27 -17. Able to hold the Broncos to a
- 9:20field goal, so now it's 30 -17. But then truly
- 9:22after that, did almost nothing with the ball
- 9:25other than the touchdown real late, but kind
- 9:28of too little too late at that point. Dak kind
- 9:31of looking more pedestrian this game. You know,
- 9:35he was kind of looking MVP -ish. I don't think
- 9:38he had any interceptions to this point in the
- 9:40season, did he? No, he didn't. Yeah, I think
- 9:42he was 10 tuds to zero picks at the time. What
- 9:44a great football mind. No, that's just luck,
- 9:48I guess. J. Will did have an off game. But on
- 9:51the other hand, for the Broncos, it was nice
- 9:53to see J .K. Dobbins bounce back and kind of
- 9:55have a bigger game. We've seen flashes of that
- 9:59on the Chargers before he ran into some injuries.
- 10:01And, of course, his Ohio State team. days but
- 10:04a guy easily you can cheer for 15 carries for
- 10:07111 yards is really impressive and like i don't
- 10:11like sean payton as much as the next guy but
- 10:13his offensive scheme is really impressive i mean
- 10:17these guys courtland sutton rj harvey pat bryant
- 10:20um troy flanklin who caught two touchdowns like
- 10:24these guys aren't top five in anybody's book
- 10:26yeah but with Sean Payton's offense, they scored
- 10:3144 points. Like, that's really impressive. And
- 10:34he's making Bo Nix look like a young Drew Brees
- 10:37maybe. And for me, you know, it's funny you mentioned
- 10:40Denver's offense. For me, it's Denver's defense
- 10:42that's just absolutely playing outstanding right
- 10:44now. No, they're playing complimentary football
- 10:45all the way around. You can argue the front seven's
- 10:48playing great. The secondary looked awesome this
- 10:50game as well, being able to keep a couple of
- 10:52speedy receivers kind of at bay and under 100
- 10:55yards apiece in George Pickens and CD. Yeah.
- 10:58But, no, they're first in the toughest division
- 11:01in football this year. Like, the AFC West is
- 11:03– Yeah, I would – Like, the NFC North had three
- 11:0611 -plus win teams last year. That could be the
- 11:10AFC West this year for sure. Like, the Chargers,
- 11:13Broncos, and Chiefs could easily get 11, 12 wins
- 11:16this year. Like, that's going to be a stacked
- 11:18division. Yeah, I mean, and they're leading the
- 11:21division at 6 -2, so it's a pretty good start
- 11:23for Denver. And I think we talked about it at
- 11:25the preseason, trying to figure out actually,
- 11:26you know, was it this year? It's going to be
- 11:28the year that the Chiefs' run of winning their
- 11:31division title come to an end. Yeah. But, yeah,
- 11:35Denver's looking good. That whole division's
- 11:37looking good. We'll talk about Denver again in
- 11:40the Week 9 preview show. Don't forget to check
- 11:42that out. But before we move on to the next game,
- 11:45Cowboys have the Cardinals next week. Is that
- 11:48Sunday night? No, I think that's Monday night
- 11:49football is Cowboys -Cardinals next week. I believe
- 11:53it's in Dallas. Is that? Is that a good time,
- 11:58good opportunity for Dallas to get back on track
- 12:00next week? For sure it is. You know, whether
- 12:03Murray's going to come back from that game. But
- 12:04Jacoby Brissett's been kind of moving that offense
- 12:07around. You know, maybe a little controversy
- 12:09on the quarterback situation down there. He's
- 12:12a very serviceable. So maybe a story to keep
- 12:15an eye on in Arizona, you're saying, out of that.
- 12:17You never know. I mean, especially with them,
- 12:19you know, continuing to lose. And do they start,
- 12:21you know, kind of experimenting a little bit?
- 12:23Experimenting, you know. Maybe one of those quarterbacks.
- 12:25coming into next year's draft, even though Archie
- 12:28Manning's kind of fell off the map as a considerable
- 12:30first -round draft pick. Fair enough. Well, that's
- 12:33arguably, you know, we talk about some of these
- 12:35must -wins as we, you know, get deeper into the
- 12:37season. Well, they got the Cardinals and then
- 12:39the Raiders. Those both are must -wins before
- 12:42you got to play the Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, and
- 12:45the Vikings, Chargers in a row. I mean, that's
- 12:47a tough gauntlet. So you got to get these two
- 12:49wins right now if you're the Dallas Cowboys.
- 12:52Let's move right along here to our next. Next
- 12:55game, it's going to be the Green Bay Packers
- 12:58taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Big story,
- 13:02obviously, Aaron Rodgers facing the Packers.
- 13:04Yes, it's in Pittsburgh, but it still had the
- 13:07feel to it. Man, the Packers look tough. Look
- 13:12tough right now. They look real tough right now.
- 13:14Like, I started having the thought, like, you
- 13:16know, are the Packers actually maybe the best
- 13:19team in the NFC North right now compared to the
- 13:22Lions? It's one of the two. Yeah, I'm going to
- 13:25put a 1 -2, obviously. That's the game I want
- 13:30to watch this week, and it's not on. We'll see.
- 13:33I guess it's whether the Packers consistently
- 13:36from week to week. I feel like they have a game
- 13:38like this where they come out and dominate and
- 13:40everyone's talking about them. Their power rankings
- 13:42go up and then the next week they lose to Cleveland
- 13:45or something like that where you're like, all
- 13:47right, what team are we getting here? Micah Parsons
- 13:50definitely was very effective against Rodgers.
- 13:53Just constant pressure on him. Loves looking
- 13:57good. I saw a really interesting stat of all
- 13:59the NFC North quarterbacks. The Lions and the
- 14:03Vikings and the Bears, just a laundry list with
- 14:05a minimum of 10 starts. Then you go over to the
- 14:07Packers. You got Favre, Rodgers, Love. That's
- 14:10it. They're just living on Love right now. Unbelievable.
- 14:16Dan, what do you think? The Packers have definitely
- 14:20fixed what they had been when they played the
- 14:23Cowboys and they had that tie game. They kind
- 14:27of thought they should have got that one, and
- 14:29then the Cowboys had that late run. Fixed it.
- 14:32They're on a four -game winning streak. Tucker
- 14:34Craft is the real deal. That dude is insane.
- 14:37You were saying top three tight end before the
- 14:39show? He's a top three right now. Should we bring
- 14:41up the video? He's good at route running. He's
- 14:44fast. He's physical. And he came from nine -man
- 14:47football, Rob. I know. He's a South Dakota boy.
- 14:51timber lake or something like that they had like
- 14:53a live feed in the bar for at the game so yeah
- 14:56here's a highlight of tucker one of his two touchdowns
- 14:59on national tight end just like the center well
- 15:02that's a pop fly exactly that was crazy yeah
- 15:04adjusted to it and like that's half the battle
- 15:07right there yeah look at this roll right here
- 15:09just a little moon shot just way up there and
- 15:11just And this is one of many plays he made that
- 15:15day. I think 143 yards total he had. And, again,
- 15:19we've talked about that tight end room again
- 15:21multiple times this season. It's just dangerous.
- 15:25The offense continues to be more dangerous. I'd
- 15:28like to see a little bit more out of Josh Jacobs,
- 15:31obviously. Kind of a little bit off day, but
- 15:33Wilson kind of picked up the slack. Oh, well,
- 15:35yeah, he's looking really good. I forgot about
- 15:37that backup running back that they had. I think
- 15:40he ended up getting more carries than Jacobs,
- 15:42if I remember. I own Jacobs in fantasy football,
- 15:45so I was kind of surprised when I saw that. Right.
- 15:49I'm going to kind of pick on the Steelers here.
- 15:51I don't think Jalen Ramsey is the greatest signing
- 15:54that he thought that he was going to be. I don't
- 15:59know what they were thinking trading Micah Fitzpatrick.
- 16:03I thought he was really good there already. Yep.
- 16:06I just thought they ended up losing that one.
- 16:09But all the other. additions that they made in
- 16:12the offseason have been really good. Aaron Rodgers,
- 16:15DK Metcalf, and really, while I'm talking about
- 16:19divisions, they could go and win that division
- 16:22really easily. Oh, yeah, that one's wide open
- 16:24right now. Exactly. For sure, wide open. Even
- 16:26at 4 -3, they're still at the top. I hate that
- 16:30DK Metcalf was one -on -one. From, what was it,
- 16:33the one -yard line, two -yard line? I mean, I
- 16:36feel like that's just a cheat code. One -on -one,
- 16:37just run DK on the inside. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
- 16:40Watch him run. Got to use that big body, you
- 16:42know. For sure. It worked for perfection. We'll
- 16:45talk about the Packers here in our preview show.
- 16:47But the Pittsburgh Steelers have the Colts coming
- 16:50up next weekend. Oof. That'll be a good game.
- 16:53It doesn't get any easier. So what do the Steelers
- 16:57need to do in order to be able to battle the
- 17:00Colts this week? For me, you've got to kind of
- 17:04get that running game going early. Obviously
- 17:07they were kind of not playing from behind, but
- 17:12when they started settling for all those field
- 17:13goals and then Green Bay got their opportunities.
- 17:16Obviously, they had to go away from it later
- 17:18in the game. But you've got to be able to establish
- 17:20that and stick to it for me. And that was the
- 17:22difference of that game. You said that you're
- 17:24talking three field goals that the Steelers had
- 17:26to settle for in that second half. Because, I
- 17:28mean, the Steelers were winning at half. And
- 17:30just looking at the box score, you can see 28
- 17:33points of the Packers. And you wouldn't think
- 17:35the Steelers' defense would be that suspect to
- 17:38give up that many points in the second half.
- 17:41Because I still consider them still a pretty
- 17:43solid defense in general. Yeah, they have all
- 17:45the pieces. I just don't know what's – they need
- 17:47to fix it. They need to be able to get the Daniel
- 17:49Jones in the pocket. They need to be able to
- 17:52contain Jonathan Taylor if they want a shot.
- 17:54And they can do it. And it was longer drives
- 17:56that they gave up towards the end of the third
- 17:58quarter and into the fourth quarter. I mean –
- 18:0178 -yard drive, 90 -yard drive. These are longer
- 18:04drives. That means they're getting to that. They're
- 18:08at least getting to that opportunity maybe of
- 18:10a third down at some point. Well, I think if
- 18:12you look at the last four or five games, the
- 18:14Steelers have given up 30 -plus points every
- 18:16single game. Tomlin, I don't know. He's going
- 18:20to turn it around, though. He's never had a losing
- 18:22season. It's still 4 -3. I was curious. I was
- 18:26curious, so I had to look real quick. The Steelers
- 18:28were indeed 1 -10 on third downs. I mean, that's
- 18:30just not going to get it done. And that's where
- 18:33I think, other than Metcalf, I feel like their
- 18:35weapons, that's kind of one of the things. Who's
- 18:38their second receiver? Is that tight end? You
- 18:41could argue Calvin Austin. You could argue Friar
- 18:44Mews, but that's not. Like I said, that's not
- 18:47top five. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like Byron with three
- 18:50catches for 13 yards, you know, that's not really
- 18:52moving the chains. And then they made that trade
- 18:55for Smith. You know, you thought John Kuhl. Am
- 18:57I saying that right? John Kuhl? Smith? The tight
- 19:01end? Oh, Jonu Smith. Jonu, that's how I said
- 19:03it. He played for the Falcons last year. No,
- 19:06it was the Dolphins. Oh, yes, yes. Yeah, he's
- 19:08been around. I mean, three targets? I think he
- 19:11was on the Falcons at one point. Yeah, so you
- 19:13would expect, you know, if you're going to make
- 19:15a move for a player like that, you would try
- 19:17to get him the ball a little bit more. Sure.
- 19:20Oh, fair enough. Let's move on here to the, and
- 19:24again, we'll be touching on Green Bay again here
- 19:25in our Week 9 preview. But let's move on to Game
- 19:294. our week 8 game recaps. The Bears taking on
- 19:32the Baltimore Ravens. The struggling Baltimore
- 19:34Ravens but the now somewhat healthy Baltimore
- 19:38Ravens who sent Tyler Huntley out there and got
- 19:42the dub 30 -16. This game felt a lot closer than
- 19:47it looks on the scoreboard. Things kind of happened
- 19:51towards the end of the game there. It's fun to
- 19:57see Derrick Henry get back in the end zone a
- 19:59couple times this game to King Henry back at
- 20:02it. But Tyler Huntley definitely doing enough
- 20:05to get the job done. Definitely still has that
- 20:09ability to also extend the play. Lamar Jackson
- 20:12-esque. you know, if you will. And that's why
- 20:15I'm really interested when they made that change
- 20:17to Cooper Rush, why they didn't pick Huntley,
- 20:20because he's more that style. And he's had some
- 20:22success again with them before, so I don't understand.
- 20:26And I just figured you wouldn't have to change
- 20:27the playbook more. You can stick to that RPO
- 20:29like Lamar typically runs there. And so that
- 20:32was a little confusing earlier in the season
- 20:34when they went to that. So it was really interesting.
- 20:37Like you said, the Bears were in it. I mean,
- 20:39they were up 6 -0 kind of early in that game.
- 20:42That's the problem. That's where they think they
- 20:44lost the game is when they were up 6 -0. If those
- 20:47two drives are touchdowns that early in the game
- 20:49against a struggling Ravens team, that, yeah,
- 20:52you know, they just got back a little healthy,
- 20:54especially defensively, but it could have been
- 20:57a different game. Now, we can say that about
- 20:59any of these games that we're talking about because
- 21:01they all had a bunch of field goals, you know
- 21:03what I mean? But this one stuck out to me that
- 21:06early in the game, settling for two field goals.
- 21:09For me, that was the game. It's huge because
- 21:11then it puts a little more pressure on Huntley
- 21:13to have to kind of do it on his own and put it
- 21:16on his shoulders more, I guess. Well, for me,
- 21:18it puts pressure on Caleb Williams. Like, we
- 21:20got to finish these drives, man. At some point,
- 21:23these field goals aren't enough. And we've seen
- 21:24it in, what, two or three games with the Vikings
- 21:26this year where we kick three, four field goals.
- 21:30Field goals will get you beaten in the NFL, for
- 21:32sure. Yeah, red zone's a big thing right there.
- 21:34And like you said, the score was a lot closer
- 21:37than originally. I think we got a video. of kind
- 21:39of that last interception. I think the score
- 21:42was like 17 -10, I think. I mean, it was 13 -16.
- 21:46Yeah, 13 -16. And then this is just a back. Yeah,
- 21:50see, and I don't know if he's throwing it, trying
- 21:52to throw it underneath and just sails it. Because
- 21:56there's a part of me, like, I don't know why
- 21:58I'm trying to back up Caleb Williams. No, you're
- 22:00good. And again, you know, back in your end zone,
- 22:02probably a little bit of happy feet there. He
- 22:05had plenty of time. Nah, he being planted, man.
- 22:07Nah, his feet were quiet. I think it has a lot
- 22:09to do with the complexion of Ben Johnson's offense,
- 22:12where it's really inconsistent sometimes, whereas
- 22:16one week he'll look really good, and then another
- 22:17week it won't be there. The rhythm will be off.
- 22:21And you're a big Ben Johnson guy. Do you think
- 22:23Caleb Williams can eventually be that quarterback
- 22:25for his system? Yeah, absolutely. If he can adjust
- 22:28to what Ben needs him to be, like a gunslinger
- 22:32like he was with Jared Goff, whereas he could
- 22:36even be better because Caleb's got his feet right
- 22:39now. He can still scramble and whatnot. So they
- 22:43just need to figure it out. They've had success
- 22:45on offense this year. They just snapped a four
- 22:48-game winning streak, the Ravens did, and they
- 22:50snapped their four -game losing streak. So, yeah,
- 22:54they just need time, and Ben Johnson will eventually
- 22:58figure it out. And just too many penalties, too,
- 23:00for the Bears. They had 11 penalties this game.
- 23:03I mean, you've got to limit that. Penalties and
- 23:06turnovers killed them in the red zone. Bears
- 23:09got a favorable schedule coming up. Cincy and
- 23:11then the Giants and then Minnesota would be the
- 23:14next three games. Who's next? Cincinnati. Giants.
- 23:19Those are all winnable games for the Bears, including
- 23:21the Vikings. In Cincy, though, that's going to
- 23:24be tough. I don't know. Joe Flacco, we were just
- 23:28talking about inconsistency. He'll throw four
- 23:31or five touchdowns and throw to almost 200 yards
- 23:34to Jamar Chase, but then we'll see. I know. The
- 23:38Bears defense can be suspect sometimes. Joe Flacco
- 23:43can possibly go off against the Bears, but who
- 23:45knows. Can I ask this question, though? No. Do
- 23:48you think that Tyler Warren should have been
- 23:50drafted over Cortland Loveland? Oh, Colston Loveland?
- 23:55Colston. Because right now Tyler Warren is looking
- 23:59like possibly a rookie of the year. I think with
- 24:02Cole Komet already at that solidified tight end
- 24:06one spot, it's kind of going to be let's see
- 24:09what Komet is capable of these next two years
- 24:13and see if we really want him around because
- 24:15Colston is going to be there for long term now,
- 24:17obviously. So he's still kind of two, one -ish
- 24:23tier. tight end for the Bears right now because
- 24:26of Komet. So they just have weapons everywhere.
- 24:29And Caleb just needs to settle in and learn how
- 24:31to drive the car, which is the Bears' offense.
- 24:34Exactly. Oh, for sure. There's definitely weapons
- 24:36there. Oh, come on. There's definitely weapons
- 24:38there. I mean, their first two picks, they had
- 24:39weapons. Yep. All those guys have high ceilings
- 24:45for sure. All right. So I think that'll do it
- 24:47here for the Ravens getting the win over the
- 24:49Bears, 30 -16. Back on the train for the Ravens.
- 24:54We'll see. Do we talk about them? No. Who do
- 24:56they got? Real quick, real quick, real quick
- 24:58before we move on. Who do they got next? The
- 25:00Dolphins. Oh, yeah. Thursday night football.
- 25:02Dolphins on Thursday night. Quick turnaround.
- 25:05Dolphins coming off a win. Ravens coming off
- 25:07a win. I would imagine the Ravens can take care
- 25:12of business against the Dolphins, but we'll see.
- 25:15Is it in Baltimore or in Miami? Do we know if
- 25:19Lamar's playing yet? I don't know. I don't think
- 25:22we officially know right now. On the spread right
- 25:24now, it's 7 .5 in favor of the Ravens. For Baltimore.
- 25:28I would imagine. Don't rush it, dude. It's a
- 25:32short week. Just have Tyler Huntley go out there
- 25:34again. I think they can do it. Just slam. But
- 25:38that 2 -5 record would make it tough, though,
- 25:41because you can't be giving up anymore else.
- 25:43You can't lose anything. And then you've got
- 25:45to go play in Minnesota, which, as we know, can
- 25:47get loud, at least in the beginning of the game.
- 25:49Yeah, very loud. But it does get deafening in
- 25:53there. So you do have that coming up. And we'll
- 25:56talk about J .J. in the preview. Don't you worry.
- 25:58Don't you worry. Last game, final game. Here
- 26:01we go. We've got to move on. San Francisco 49ers
- 26:03taking on the Houston Texans. Texans getting
- 26:06the win at home. 26 -15 against, obviously, we
- 26:11know the Niners missing a couple pieces defensively
- 26:13in Nick Boveson and Fred Warner, but Texans able
- 26:18to put it on them. C .J. Stroud, for me, looking
- 26:21like he was able to get the ball out a lot quicker
- 26:23this week, a lot quicker. A lot. You know, Woody
- 26:27Marks made a... A couple plays late in the game
- 26:30that was able to kind of help seal the deal for
- 26:33the Texans. That kind of stuck out to me. And
- 26:37then Xavier Hodgson's touchdown was nice, too.
- 26:39Yeah, I think that's one of our videos up here.
- 26:43I feel like it kind of got a swagger back a little
- 26:46bit. CJ? For sure. No, for sure. That's exactly
- 26:49what it feels like. And you can see the youth
- 26:52of the 49ers defense really can kind of expose
- 26:55a little bit. Look at that speed, though. After
- 26:57catch speed. Like, he runs a fast route. I know
- 27:00there's an angle from the camera above him or
- 27:02whatever. You can see him run the route. I mean,
- 27:05he runs the route crispy as heck, but then it's
- 27:07the after catch speed. As soon as he catches
- 27:09it, it's like he turns on the jets, and he's
- 27:11just absolutely gone. But, no, I like that. Got
- 27:15to sway your back a little bit. I think you kind
- 27:17of hit that right on the head, and he's going
- 27:18to need it this week with a tough opponent coming
- 27:21in to Houston. 49ers really struggled. I mean,
- 27:25McCarthy, I mean, McCarthy. Stafford, he had
- 27:28less than 100 yards rushing. They were pretty
- 27:32ineffective. This is probably one of Max's mid
- 27:37-games lately. For sure. There's a big missed
- 27:40call in this game, dude, that bugs the heck out
- 27:43of me. I don't know if it was. Third or fourth
- 27:45quarter, it was definitely lighter in the game,
- 27:47whereas Jawan Jennings' deep catch, real deep
- 27:50in the corner. Who's their left tackle? Why am
- 27:52I tripping on his name? Yeah, Trent Williams,
- 27:54man. Leaves so early. I mean, it was false start
- 27:57city. Leaves so early. And then, gosh, that call
- 28:02frustrated me. And then, actually, your boy in
- 28:05Green Bay, the tight end that we were just talking
- 28:07about. Tucker Craft. He had a block in the back.
- 28:09That was a crazy miss, too, to me on one of their
- 28:12touchdowns. Anyway, I forgot to mention that.
- 28:14I'm sure those get realized all the time. Oh,
- 28:16man, it was right in front of the ref, though.
- 28:18Like, you've got to make that call. But I don't
- 28:21know, whatever. That was literally the biggest
- 28:25thing I noticed for the Niners is that massive
- 28:28false start. But, yeah, the Texans defensively
- 28:31able to keep CMC kind of at bay. We haven't really
- 28:36seen all season for the most part. And Texas
- 28:39has got a good defense. That front four, front
- 28:41seven is pretty good. Backside, they've got a
- 28:44couple of DBs that are pretty solid. I mean,
- 28:47again, there's a reason why Trent Williams is
- 28:49leaving early on a pass play. Because if you
- 28:52go back and look at it, even him leaving early,
- 28:55Will Anderson is literally in his face, dude.
- 28:58And straight bull rushing him straight. I mean,
- 29:01insane. Him and Daniil are a good one. Two tandem.
- 29:05Yeah, their turn. Domingo Ryan is still a good
- 29:06coach. They just got to a bad start. And if they
- 29:09can win this week, right? We won't touch on it
- 29:12a ton right now. That would be huge, actually.
- 29:13But if they can win this week, that would be
- 29:15a really big win, especially when you play the
- 29:17Jaguars next, who are kind of like that borderline
- 29:20bubble wild card team we don't really know. And
- 29:23then the Titans, and then you've got another
- 29:24tough one against the Bills. So a couple tests
- 29:26coming up. And then Colts right after the Bills,
- 29:29followed by the Chiefs. So Texans got a lot of
- 29:31prove -it games coming up. Yes, yes. Who are
- 29:33the Texans going to be the rest of this season?
- 29:36Yeah, Texas actually finally got a little running
- 29:38game going. They had a little over 150, and that's
- 29:41one of the, you know, like I was saying earlier,
- 29:43C .J. Stroud coming off that play action, and
- 29:45that's just where I think he really succeeds,
- 29:47and he gets the opportunity for Hutchinson and
- 29:49Nico Collins to get open. So, yeah, Texans are
- 29:533 -4. 3 -5. I think. 3 -4. 3 -4. 3 -4. 3 -4.
- 30:00Excuse me. Sorry. So, Niners fall to 5 -3. I
- 30:04think they're still on top of the division, or
- 30:06are they tied with the Rams at this point? I
- 30:08think they are tied with the Rams. They've got
- 30:09to be pretty close. Yeah, it was a little more
- 30:13surprising game. It wasn't as competitive as
- 30:15I thought it was when we kind of picked this
- 30:16game earlier in the week. Yeah, I don't know
- 30:21why I can't see the standings. I was just trying
- 30:23to see where the Niners were. Yeah, the Mac Jones
- 30:24really didn't play that bad of a game. Honestly.
- 30:27He didn't play bad, but he just didn't. Interception
- 30:30in the fourth quarter. Get him over the top,
- 30:32too. But I think Purdy's got to be maybe this
- 30:35week they're talking. Well, I don't know if he's
- 30:37in your injury report conversation. No, he's
- 30:39not. What do you got? But I just see some reports
- 30:42of his possible return this week or maybe next
- 30:44week. So that'll be a big upgrade. Sorry. No,
- 30:49that's just it. And then if you can get Pierce
- 30:50all back, too. Yeah, so right now the Seahawks
- 30:535 -2, Rams 5 -2, San Fran 5 -3. So that's a tough
- 30:58division right now. That is a tough one. Yeah,
- 31:01but they got Giants, Rams, Cardinals next three
- 31:03games. So two of those three seem like an opportunity
- 31:07for at least a win there. Yeah, opportunities
- 31:10abound. And then you got that divisional game
- 31:12against the Rams, so flip a coin almost on that
- 31:15one. For sure. Well, fellows, that wraps up our
- 31:19week eight game recaps. Recaps. Don't forget.
- 31:26Weird week. It is a weird week. It is a weird
