- 0:00SPEAKER_00: It's reverse Jack.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: Folks, welcome back to the reverse jackass.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I talked over.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: So going to again, that was my fault and totally unintentional.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Folks, folks, welcome back to the reverse jackass podcast.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad you're here.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I'm Nick with me as always is Evelyn, the Canadian Blade.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Evelyn, say hello to these kind people.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Hi, everybody.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Welcome.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Welcome to this.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Welcome to this hangout that we have curated.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Welcome to our curated hangout.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Um, today's a Nick Day.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: It's a Nick Day.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: So I want to tell you about a work trip that I went on many, many years ago.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Um, at the least happy workplace I've ever worked in.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I worked at a place, so it was between 15 and 20 years ago, that was the least functional, least happy place that I've ever worked.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And the reason it was uh bad was because the three people that owned and ran it were bad people who did bad things.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And everybody knew it, but it was in the middle of the uh economic downfall.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So everybody was just lucky to have a job and we put up with all this hideous shit from these people because we needed to, all of us to pay our bills and keep our insurance.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So in the midst of all of this, I was working about 60 hours a week on salary.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And they uh they by the way, they when they hired me, they were like, you know, we're writing 45 hours into your contract because it's an economic recession and everybody needs to, everybody needs to pitch in a little more.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: 60 was what it ended up being.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: 60 on salary.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So anyway, so in the midst of all this, they're like, we gotta do a team building, we gotta do a team building trip together.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Like, we're gonna, we're gonna do it.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And that was crazy because I was working 60 hours a week.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So I clearly had enough things to fill my time.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And I remember even saying, Hey, would it be okay if I skipped the kayaking trip?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Because I have a ton of stuff to do.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And they were like, No, no, this is really important.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: We really need you here for this thing.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fine, great.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So I pushed back all the work I could push back, and I got my employees to do whatever I could get them to do.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And then we made this plan to go to the Channel Islands.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And the Channel Islands are off the coast of Southern California.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: They're pretty, they're sparsely populated.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: There used to be, or still is a Cal State over there, but it's like, it's like not a big city, it's a small place, and you you know, take a boat to get there, et cetera.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So the first thing I had to do was I had to go rent a van.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: I wasn't given an option.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: They were like, you live closest to the rental place, so go rent a van, and then you have to come to Santa Monica to pick everybody up at the business, which is an hour and a half from where I live in most traffic, and then you're gonna drive us all up to the Channel Islands, which is another hour, hour and a half up the coast, and then we're all gonna get on a boat and we're gonna go kayaking.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And then we're gonna come back.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Yep, so it's a lot.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm waking up bright and early to get this stupid van and pick up eight people I don't like and who really deeply don't like me, where our antipathy is the most our antipathy is the most like matched part of this relationship.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And we drive up, and as we're driving up to the Channel Islands, we stop off uh in at some place near Agora Hills to get gas.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And as I'm pulling into the gas station, a cop on a motorcycle with an assault rifle mounted on the back of the the thing, because it's the states.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Yep, yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Pulls us over and he says, Do you have any idea why I pulled you over?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And I said, I do not.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: And he says, That person, that person, and that person are not wearing seatbelts.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I'm so sorry.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: I'm sure we can remedy that.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And he goes, No, I have to write a ticket.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I'm writing everybody in here that wasn't wearing a seatbelt a ticket.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And then they started to protest.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Officer, don't write us a ticket.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: He said, Technically, and he points to me, this guy is liable for all of you.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: So I can write him all four tickets if you want, or I can write each of you a ticket.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And to their credit, as shitty as they were, they didn't say, Yeah, write him the ticket.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, he should have checked for this.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: They all said, No, I'll take the ticket.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: But he he stood there and hand-wrote a ticket for all four people for not wearing a safety belt, right?
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: In the midst of this, one of the big bosses starts to get out of the van, touches the officer on the chest, and says, Oh, oh, officer, we don't need to, we don't need to do this thing.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Now, now, granted, she is a small woman, but also she doesn't know how cops work.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And he took a step back and put his hand on his gun and said, Don't touch me.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And she drew back.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: And he wrote, he wrote four fucking tickets.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: They took them.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I thank God I was wearing my seatbelt.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: My mom was always really aggressive about that.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I drove us the rest of the way to the Channel Islands and we got on these kayaks.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And I think I've told you this story a little bit before, but this will be the audience at home's first time experience.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: First run through it.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Can I ask a couple questions about Please?
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: I wish you would.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Um, number one, are you a religious seatbelt wearer?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't do it from a place of religion, if that's what you're asking.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: I don't have a lot of religion in my life.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I do wear my seatbelt.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Are you asking if I wear it all the time?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: I wear it all the time in part because of this experience where this cop didn't just go, hey guys, put on your seatbelts.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: He was like, I'm gonna stand here and write a ticket for each person.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: So you Okay.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: So okay, wonderful.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: So my second question is how much were the tickets for?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Do you remember?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: That is a great question, and I don't remember.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um Okay.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: We could probably look it up.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, my my best guess is somewhere between$50 and$150.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: I I Oh yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And again, it was a while ago.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I was just I was curious if it was worth it, you know, like oh, like, oh, it's five dollars and you s and you mail it in.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: No, yeah, tickets in the S are never worth it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: They always fucking suck.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: It's always a terrible pain in the ass.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I got a I got a what they call a fix-it ticket years ago in Chicago.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, and I had gotten a lot of tickets for this for this thing.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: But he took my license and said, if you get this registration that you've been avoiding buying, then you can show up to court and show it, and then they'll just give you your license back.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: But you do have to pay these past five tickets.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: And the reason I wasn't doing it was because I didn't want to go to the Secretary of State's office, and my wife goes, There's no way they make you go into the Secretary of State's office.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And I said, Of course they do.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Everything here is so bad, everything here is rented.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: And she goes, just look at the website.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And of course, it was$27.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: I did it on the website, I had it, and I paid hundreds of dollars in tickets because I didn't check the fucking website.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So uh the message, the takeaway from all of you today is marry somebody who's way smarter than you.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: It always pays off.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, the savings are measurable.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, so the Channel Islands are a maritime place, a destination, and what you forget when you sign up for a kayaking trip is that nature doesn't clean the table for you, nature doesn't get the house clean for you.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, nature doesn't say, oh, the losers from Santa Monica are visiting.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, companies coming, put out the good towels.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Nature doesn't say any of those things.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Nature is warts and all, uh going to show you what it is.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And what I found is that the warts of this particular nature body were were dead, dying, and fighting seals.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: So we go on this thing, we're probably kayaking for two hours.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: That's a long time.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, kayaking takes for fucking ever.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Like you you lose track of how lucky you and I are that like like that that I have a van that can take me to Santa Monica in an hour and a half instead of like it being a four-day drawn carriage ride or something like that.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And so kayak is the kind of thing that you only do if you are an athlete running from something or if it's 500 years ago and this is your only way to make your livelihood.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, it's terribly inefficient.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Well, that's how I got to my planting cold.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: That's how I got to my haircut this morning.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Was you kayak there?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I kayed downtown London, yeah.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Canada is Russia.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And I hope you won't take offense for me to say this, all lake.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's all we are.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: It's the Venice of the West.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you just get you throw everywhere.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's really how like what else am I gonna do?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Swim?
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Like, come on.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I right.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Do I look like Michael Phelps?
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: No.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: That would be incredible.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: That would be so Dead Sea Lions, here we go.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dead sea lions.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Maybe sea lions, but I think I don't know.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I wasn't trying to look at them, but what you notice it the first time when you're, you know, like you know when you go to the ocean and you're always like surprised by that smell of salt water.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Like you forget it when you see it on postcards, and then you get to the ocean and you smell the salt water, and you're like, oh, I'm near a big body of salt water.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So then imagine you're out there and you're just you're sweating your ass off, just paddling around with like eight of the worst people you've ever known in your life, and then suddenly you smell rotting flesh, and you're like, huh, a smell stronger than seawater.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Um what could it be?
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Well, the answer is it is a bloated corpse of a seal floating in the water.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I'm sorry.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: It's the bloated corpse of a dozen seals floating in the water because nature doesn't clean house when guests come over.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Seals just die and then they float there and they bloat until something eats them.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Or I mean, I don't know what the decomposition of a seal is, but let me just tell you, a significant and stinky part of it is on top of the water.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: So then as we're floating through this seal graveyard, we see seals fighting, and seals fighting is upsetting to watch.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Because they both look like they should lose, and yet it is intensely violent.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: It is very violent, but they don't have arms.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: They just kind of sock their heads at each other over and over again.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It's really fucking terrifying.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And then we see a bleeding-to-death seal, a seal on the rock.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Sorry for anybody at home.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Let's do this, that has lost the last fight it's ever gonna have and is just suffering and bleeding.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And I gotta say, Evelyn, wow, it was a metaphor.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: When we rode up against that metaphor for my time at that particular company, I felt as bad, I felt worse for the seal than for myself, but a close second for myself.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: So, of course, we're just team building, you know, like you do, just rowing our way through the seal carcasses and the the decomposition.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I think that's called trauma bonding, is actually what it's trauma bonding.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: More often, you know.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: And even the guide was like, Yeah, yeah, you know, um, it's nature.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: This is what's happening out here.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, I don't know, man.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: We've managed to sanitize every other bit of nature out here.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Is there not some kind of trawler that could just collect all these dead bodies?
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, anyone got a pool skimmer in their like serial killers bury their bury their fucking victims sometimes.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: But these seals, no, they're otherworldly.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: So we get back onto land gratefully, where the smell is only salt water, and we're about to get into the van to go home, and it's 6 p.m.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: And again, I've been up since 6 a.m.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: And the boss, the same boss that touched the policeman on his chest, looks at everybody and goes, So does everybody want to get a get a taco and a beer?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: And the sound of 12 people all fluttering for an excuse was deafening.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: The silence everybody going, uh, uh and I and I was like, Oh, yeah, I gotta return this van.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And somebody else was like, Yeah, you know, my baby's waiting for me.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And she was like, Yeah, it's been a long day.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: It's like she backed off immediately, like, oh yeah, it's been a long day.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: We'll just we'll just go home.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So then I drove the hour and a half back to Santa Monica, the hour and a half back to the van rental place, yeah, and got home.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And that was that was just another, another 18-hour day working for this terrible company.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: So my question for you, Evelyn, is what is the worst team building experience you've ever had?
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: You were in schools.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: There have got to be a few candidates here, right?
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, first of all, that's a great that's a horrific story, but a great question.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: We did a lot of team building.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: We did a lot of team building at school, and uh none involved dead animals, uh, which was great, which was handy, I will say.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: But you know, most team building activities, I would say, are the worst team building activities I've ever been through.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Without fail, my least favorite, you know, was when we were back to school.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Um, so we're done here in Ontario, we are done school uh end of June, and then we go back after the first week after Labor Day.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: What's in September?
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: What's that for you guys?
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Labor Day?
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Labor Day is the first Monday in September.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so what's you guys call it that too?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: So then, so then we that's basically our two countries have so much in common.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, we found it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening to the reverse jackass podcast, everyone.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Bum bum bum from neighbors.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, be free.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: We figured it out.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: We solved it.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Just that one holiday.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I think we went too deep.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: We could have just said the words.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, surface shit as well.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Three episodes in, we could have figured that out.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it's changed a little bit now, like they kind of shifted around based on the days that we have to work as part of the collective agreement and our however many hours the ministry dictates each student needs, blah, blah, blah.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: So there are two days before classes start that are professional development days for teachers.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So the teachers are just coming in, and I'm telling you right now, and developing.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And developing, uh, because we haven't developed anything other than a regulated nervous system all summer.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: So it's time to, hey, oh, it's time to actually get those, get those cortisol levels back up again.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Let's let's fatigue those adrenal glands before we even start to use them, before there are children's voices and learning and merriment.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, Evelyn Flanagan, can you please come to the principal's office?
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Bill and Ted have a question for you about your relationship with our Lord and Savior.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's on the office, on the double.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: On the double.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Bop, pop, pop.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: That's kind of what it sounded like.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, don't worry, that's not gonna fry me every time I hear that.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Thank the intercom.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Thank goodness.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: But but inevitably, the first thing we do, you walk into a room, you go into, we were always in the amphitheater of the school.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: So you walk in there, it's like the tiered seating, and there's chairs, and there is a pile of stuff because it's those chairs that have the desk attached to the side.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: And as someone who um likes to party, likes to party and is physically not, I wouldn't consider myself ergonomic.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: I find sometimes those those desks don't allot for fully grown adults, is what I'm telling you.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Well, and even the desks themselves are often like they give you the surface to put your iPhone down, and then other than that, there's like not a lot of workspace, right?
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: And as someone who's left-handed, those things are the worst because they're all right-handed.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you didn't know it was lefty?
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: No, that's so Oh, I'm sorry.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I'll withhold my judgment.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Doesn't it make sense though?
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: It's it's gross.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Um, I've written I've written a lot of a lot of things down.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: I've written a lot of strategy down for you with my left hand.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: So it helps me, it helps me understand your origin story because you know, here you are one of these people who can't learn.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, and so you devoted your life to making things more accessible.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, here's a question for you, and I'm sorry, I'm getting away from the thing here.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Is playing instruments like I know they make left-handed guitars, do they make left-handed woodwinds or left-handed, like no, no, you have to learn the guitar.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Those you just have to figure it out.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: And I I learned guitar right-handed.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: I was sick of feeling different, so I decided to assimilate myself.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: I thought that was I play guitar right-handed, yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: I think that was both wise and considerate because nobody wants to see you up there holding your guitar the wrong way.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna tell you right now that whenever I see someone playing the guitar left-handed, I rage out.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Or when it's-no I'm being serious.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Drives me bonkers.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Drives me bonkers.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And you know, maybe they have the reasons.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're not gonna be able to do that.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, fine.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: No one was ever that good in any of my classes, so their argument was was invalid.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I would often get students saying, like, wanting to hold the guitar the wrong way and being like, I have to hold it this way.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I'm left-handed.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: And I said, No, you don't, I'm left-handed, and I learned it right-handed.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: So you're going to too.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Like it allowed me to shoot down anyone who wanted to try and make my life miserable.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: I love that you had a a link in the a link in the abuse chain.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, the only, you know, the only time in my life that I wasn't on the receiving end of it.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: So it's actually kind of nice.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: You were like, you're like, you're gonna learn how to play this right-handed.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: And that person hits you.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, Mrs.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Flanagan.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: That person hits you because they love you.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Boys bully you because they like you.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Have we not right?
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Isn't that the worst?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: So anyway, we go into the amphitheater, we're on these tiny little desks and little chairs, and there's a pile of stuff, like first day paper that we have to hand out to the kids, like, you know, forms and all this kind of stuff.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: And our names were always on, like our last names were always on these folded pieces of cardstock so we knew where to sit.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: It was always alphabetical.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: I was rarely beside any friends of mine.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Although our friend Tim, Tim and I have last names that were his starts with an E and mine starts with an F.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So it was nice.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: I often sat beside Tim, but then if you get a new staff member that comes, they threw the whole thing out of whack.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Like it was not acceptable.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: So the question that I hated the most, and I am not necessarily a small talk person.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: It pains me to do small talk.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: The question that we always opened with was turn to your neighbor and tell them one exciting thing you did this summer.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: And I'm telling you right now that there was one summer I did something exciting, and that was it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: And that was it.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: What was the thing that you did that was exciting?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I helped my friend deliver her baby.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Oh shit.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I was prepared to diminish whatever you told me.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: No, but that I cannot diminish.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Nope, you cannot diminish that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I was in the labor and delivery room when she delivered.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, you were in the room.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: That's very different from I helped.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, I helped.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I'm imagining you're guiding this baby through the birth canal and then fighting the cord.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: What did you actually do?
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: We I held mom's hand and we looked at each other in the okay, I will.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: And you made eye contact?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Are you can we just take a moment?
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Because I don't think you're thankful enough that we are what 3,000 miles apart, right?
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize I hosted a podcast with a doula.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Did they name their child after you?
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Did you hold the right hand or the left hand?
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Tell I have to know the left hand.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: The left hand.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So you forced her to do your thing.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: And we did and we did breathing together.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: I helped her with when the nurse was like, it's time to breathe and it's time to push.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: So we did that together.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: I didn't really push because there was nothing in my uterus.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: You pushed the nurse just for laps.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Just straight out of the way.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: And then it was it was a wonderful experience.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: She asked me if I'd be in there and I would.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: But other than that, every other summer of my teaching career, what am I supposed to say?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I sat on the deck, overindulged in ice cream, read three books, and by the second or third week of August, exhausted a list of other careers I could start in three weeks.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: That honestly, I would rather do that than be in the room when somebody's giving birth.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, it's not like that was an every summer thing.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: I didn't have a lineup of people asking me to, you know.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: No, the word didn't get around after you flawlessly executed the first one.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: I did a great job.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: I did a great job.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, the breathing.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: I heard about it.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Stop it.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: You're like, you're like, without me, without Mrs.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Flanagan, she wouldn't have breathed.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: No, you're not.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: You know what happens with people when they don't breathe?
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: You do the math.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: She didn't call me Mrs.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Flanagan in the birthing room.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: This was not a student I had.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It would have been amazing if she had.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: That would be weird because she was not my student.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: But yeah, let's go back to team building because I I feel like at this point there's nothing I can say that's going to s to save me in this in this story.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Jason, however, he did some team building actually last week.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: He was at a conference and he had a great team building uh exercise that I actually thought was kind of fun.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Um he didn't lead it, he was a part of it, but I thought it was a little bit different.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: So maybe actually we're gonna do it now with just the two of us.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Probably would work better with more than two people.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm ready.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: But we're gonna do this now.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So I'm I mean, and maybe you know this, okay.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: And if you do, uh just play along with it.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, I'm having a party, and if you tell me what you're gonna bring, I'm gonna tell you if you can come to my party or not.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: So I do do you know this game?
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: No.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: So the game is best played with one person at the front of the room.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Ideally, you know how at a conference there would be people at various tables, and you kind of go around the room pointing and you say, Hey, okay, you're invited to my party.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: You, you know, I'm having a party, tell me what you're going to bring.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: That's how it goes.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: And then the person says something and you say yes or no.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: And then you start to kind of go around, and then if you if you bring something that I am welcoming to my party, you come up to the front with me.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: And you have to figure out why I'm bringing certain things and not others.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: So let's do this right now.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: This is a great, this is actually anyone who's listening to this who has to do any kind of team building or you know, icebreaker kind of things, this would be a really good one to do.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So Nick, Nick, I'm having a party.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Um, what would you bring to my party?
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I would bring to your party my friend from another culture.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Uh no, you can't get away.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Why is that a problem for you?
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, how interesting.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Try again.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: I'm having a party.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Like you're gonna get all the turns now because there's only you and I in the room here.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: Um, try again.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: If I'm having a party, what's one thing you would bring to my party?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: A religious text that you don't agree with.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Um, yes.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: That's better.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: So, but my friend can't come.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: No, that's right.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: But their religious text can come.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, great.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: They're well, it was very sp you have to be careful how you word it.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: You said it's a religious text that I don't agree with.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: So, yes, that you can bring that to my party.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, what's something else you would bring to my party?
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: A weapon.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: No.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: What's something else you would bring to my park?
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Something else.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Um now I'm gonna be less silly because now I'm gonna try to figure out how the game works.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: I'm going to bring a birthday cake.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Uh no, you can't come to my party with a birthday cake or a weapon, even though you're really just two of those things, two of those things.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Things.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: A birthday cake and a weapon just makes for a normal party celebration in Texas.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: So it's fine.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: What else would you bring?
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I would bring a um, and you said it's how I say it.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: I would bring Stampy, my cat.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: No, you can't bring Stampy.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:19unknown: Okay.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: What's another?
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: So is this game just getting turned down over and over again?
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just it's called rejection exposure.
- 22:25unknown: Right.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I would bring a submarine sandwich.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I'll give you an example of something I would bring.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I would bring beer.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: I'd bring beer to the party.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I would bring punch.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: You can't come to the party if you bring punch.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: I would bring a deer.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: You can come to my party if you bring a deer.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: I would bring King Lear.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Uh no.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: You can't come to my party if you bring a deer.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: So what I'm getting is it's supposed to be one word, whatever this thing is.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Uh nope.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Because you said a religious text that I don't agree with.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: That's fair.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: I did say that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: I just thought maybe you were thinking of the the one religious text you tell me all the time that you think is ungodly and evil.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Just because I open our Zoom calls with a religious text of the scripture.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Um I'm going to bring a tire.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: You can't come to one party if you bring a tire.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: So how long does this does this game go for theoretically with all these things?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Well, until you get until you get everybody up on and then what and then what am I guessing?
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Like Well, let's do a few more and see like because you'll figure it out.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: You'll figure it out.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Well will I?
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not known for greatness in these arenas.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: I I will bring a box of Kleenex.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: You could come to my party if you bring a box of Kleenex.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I will bring the everlasting grace of the Holy Spirit.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: So that's a good card game.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Throw shoutout, though.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: It's good.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: So think about it.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: You have um a text, a religious text that I don't agree with, a beer and a deer, and a box of Kleenex.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: That sounds like a banging party, if I can be honest.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: There's a lot going on.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I would bring a maple leaf.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: You cannot come if to my party if you bring a maple leaf.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: I would bring a javelin.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: I would bring the This really sounds like you and I party differently.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: It's what the Woodwind section of your former school.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: You can come to my party if you bring the Woodwin section of my formal former school.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I will bring, I'm gonna come to your party and I'm going to bring um shit.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: What else?
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, like at this point, it feels like a like a burdensome invitation.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I will bring a newspaper.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: No.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: But but say instead of the paper, say you brought cheese.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: You could bring some cheese to my party.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Okay, I can't bring a newspaper, but I can bring cheese.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna bring a toaster oven.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: This is the worst.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: This is the worst team building event ever.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: You could bring you could bring poop.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Could bring what?
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Poop.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: I could bring poop.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Oh okay.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: This seems like the type of party where I could bring my feelings, but I couldn't bring my emotions.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: That's that's right.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: You got it, didn't you?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: I think I did.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: What allows you into my party, Nick?
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Is it a double vowel?
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Or just double letters at all.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: So yeah, a religious text I don't agree with.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: The woodwind section, beer, cheese, uh, a deer.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: By the way, saying you can't bring newspaper, but you can bring cheese is like I know.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: Like makes it sound like those two things are linked, which is the biggest mind fuck of them all.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: So you're saying you did or did not feel closer to your colleagues at the end of this awful slide.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: This is a good this is the good one.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: This is the good.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Oh god, that's the good one?
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Fuck, what's the bad one?
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: The the what did you do over the summer?
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, the bad, oh god.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: I would much God, my kingdom for what did I do over the summer.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: No kidding.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: I ushered a life into the world.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, I didn't really usher it into the world.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: I was in the room when medical professionals helped somebody give birth.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Mostly she was screaming and pooping.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I did hold one of her hands and we breathed, but to be fair, every living being on earth was breathing at that same time.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: So you could say that that's the least distinguished contribution that we made.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, I I saw I saw everything.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: You saw everything.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: You were holding her hand.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Were you like holding her hands?
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: And then do one of these.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Like like art side, like Bertland Bridge style.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Put your feet on my shoulders.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: You were like pulling her arms towards you to try to like sort of accordion squeeze the get the baby out of there.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Did they name the baby Mrs.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: Flanagan?
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they did.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: That would be they did.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: First name Mrs.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Middle name Flanagan.
- 26:38unknown: You know.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: My wife has a has a student who has a pet shrimp, and the shrimp's name is Mrs.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Pumpkins.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Which is my favorite thing ever in the world.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, that is pretty good.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, so to answer your question, yeah.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I don't think I did, really.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: And I think every I think we've learned that all the all the glitters is not all the glitters is in the team building realm is not gold.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: And no good team building exercises exist.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: And a apparently a team building activity only counts if you're in a kayak and there's there's dead animals floating around you.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: So you can't bring a you can't bring a dead seal to this party.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but you can bring a beer.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Um you can't bring a seatbelt, yeah, but you can bring a copper.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can, yeah.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's fucked up.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: That it's interesting, and I think this is an underrated strategy, but I don't think they give enough credence to the leaders who create team unity by making the leader themselves so loathsome to the team that the team unites in response to the leader being so terrible.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, so what's the thing?
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Sounds like that's the that was the the Canadian public school.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: So, in your view, then, in your opinion, let's end with this.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: What is what would the ideal team building experience be for you?
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: And you can't say non-existent.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: The ideal team building experience, I gotta say, I loved when I was in fine dining, we would do tasting sometimes.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And that's an opportunity for everybody to try something that's interesting and cool and tasty and to remark on what they taste about it.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: And that's the thing where like there can kind of be like if you're doing it right, there's no wrong answers.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: And it's a lovely thing where people get to try something and it's a little bit special and they can share their observations and it doesn't require a lot of weird personal disclosure.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: And again, like I think that people will ultimately disclose and become teammates.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: I don't feel like we need necessarily to like open with sharing, but if I say, you know, look at this, look at this zin.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Wow, I taste blackberry in this in.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: What do you taste?
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: And you say, like, oh, I taste, you know, strawberry in this thing.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: And then we're talking about that.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: If we do that for a little while, I think that's just a good way to get everybody to be able to speak in a non-scary way, which I think is at the end of it, like you really want people to be able to speak freely.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: And then the rest of it will do itself.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I what the fuck do I know?
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I no, I agree with you.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: I think that's I think that's that's true.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: And it's it's typical of the board, too much too soon or too little too late.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: That seems to be the school board's the school board's ride or die right there.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: And to them, uh, I would tell them, you may not bring a Zinfandel to my party.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: You can't bring a Beaujolais.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: You can't bring a Beaujolais.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: Can't bring a Pinot?
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: No.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: You can bring a Chardonnay, though.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Chardonnays are welcome.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Uh nope.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, yes, yes, correct.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh, I'm already losing points so hard on this episode.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Just so hard.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Let's just wrap it up.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Fine.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening, everybody.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: We love you.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: I did something, I did something pathetic the other day, which was I Googled our podcast and reviews.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you that it turns out that thousands and thousands of people have reviewed the Jackass franchises, which I also enjoy, but but nobody has reviewed our podcast.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: And the only reason I say that I would like that to happen is even if it's insulting, I would love for people to be able to look up this podcast and either get a you love this podcast, it's so great, or Nick is a genius and Mrs.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Flynn again drags them down.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Either of those things is totally okay.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to leave one of those two reviews.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Um, or if you have private feedback for us, email us at reversejacks69 at gmail.com.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: No, no, that's not even a reversejackass at gmail.com.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, reversejackass at gmail.com.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And I know some of my former students listen to this.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: And if if you're not enraged at this point in the podcast by how I'm being treated, then I didn't teach you enough about how to treat each other well.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: But right now I need you to rally, I need you to get angry, and I need you to leave us a review saying what a piece of garbage one of the hosts is.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Whichever one of us is balder.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: I got a haircut today and I went a little short, okay?
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: I still win.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: We love you.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: We'll see you next time.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Some neighbors are besties.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Others quarrel bitterly.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Stuck together through geography.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: One of us has nukes, and the other has tokes.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: It's American Canadian diplomacy.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: It's reversed.
