Betty J. Downey, beloved Wilmington resident and 92-year quilting legend, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2026. A lifelong maker and teacher, she led quilting bees, mentored generations, and served as past president of Quilters by the Sea. Faithful to Immaculate Conception Church and active in community service, Betty leaves behind a legacy of love — 10 children, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
