- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. You've got the higher win percentage.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I need to like refine my love for trivia.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's been lagging la higher win percentage.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Probably more games in your career.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I think I think Brody his his wins got a
- 1:12Speaker 1: little fat before Randall showed up. Randall didn't drive until
- 1:15Speaker 1: probably what a year and a half.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Trivia we're just saying, I mean, I've just been on
- 1:19Speaker 3: a little bit of a heater recently, but before that,
- 1:21Speaker 3: there was like a seven month stretch sure where I
- 1:24Speaker 3: just there wasn't any point.
- 1:27Speaker 1: How can we help you find your love again? Brody?

- 2:02Speaker 1: Not everyone has a fill at home to tell them
- 2:03Speaker 1: how many points you have. I'm sorry, Jenna. This is
- 2:06Speaker 1: a common bit of feedback. I get, I just forget
- 2:08Speaker 1: sometimes sometimes I forget for like three weeks in a row.
- 2:11Speaker 1: That's my bad.
- 2:12Speaker 3: He's so desperate for the game to be over. He's
- 2:16Speaker 3: fed up with us, I just forget.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I would like to remind folks of the correct answers
- 2:21Speaker 1: every time, so I will try to be better. Jenna,
- 2:25Speaker 1: it's too bad everyone doesn't have a fill at home though, Phil.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe maybe Phil could keep track of reminding you
- 2:31Speaker 3: to do that. It's not only the score, but also
- 2:33Speaker 3: the score reminder.
- 2:35Speaker 1: That you give film more responsibility.
- 2:38Speaker 3: He's just telling me the other day he doesn't have
- 2:40Speaker 3: enough stuff to do at work.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's a secret now for housekeeping. This week, we have
- 2:45Speaker 1: a trivia live event coming up that Randall will be hosting.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Randall tell folks about what's going on and how they
- 2:51Speaker 1: can participate.

- 2:56Speaker 3: Anglers Rendezvous. So if this is air this Thursday, this.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Is airing tomorrow June eleven.

- 3:06Speaker 1: Saturday fighteenth thirteenth, fourteenth is Saturday.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Oh geez, well, I've got it all screwed up. Anyway,
- 3:14Speaker 3: if you're gonna be at rendezvou and you'd like to
- 3:15Speaker 3: play trivia trivia on Saturday night, we're gonna have Cal
- 3:20Speaker 3: and Mark Kenyan and some other some other folks playing
- 3:24Speaker 3: with us, But we want to have a couple listeners
- 3:26Speaker 3: up there as well, So email Trivia at the meat
- 3:30Speaker 3: eater dot com. That's Trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 3:34Speaker 3: And I'll say I'm gonna I'm gonna try to do
- 3:37Speaker 3: it as randomly as possible. But if the if you've
- 3:39Speaker 3: submitted several questions that have made it on air, if
- 3:42Speaker 3: you're a if you're a committed team member this broader
- 3:45Speaker 3: project of trivia, just flag that for me.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Okay, what if someone sends you some some waypoints, Yeah, the.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Wait points, hunting permissions.
- 3:56Speaker 3: You got a cabin I can borrow for a weekend.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, start with bribery. And if that doesn't work, then
- 4:01Speaker 1: let us know how much you know, how much you
- 4:03Speaker 1: participate in trivia.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Or if you've got a good joke, If you got
- 4:06Speaker 3: a good joke, could you think i'd really like I'm
- 4:08Speaker 3: just saying it's gonna be we want we want sort
- 4:11Speaker 3: of a representative selection of our audience members up there.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But how many I will play?
- 4:17Speaker 3: I think I'm aiming for like eight participants.
- 4:22Speaker 1: That leaves the door open for five or six folks.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Well, we've got some. We're gonna have some BHA folks playing,
- 4:27Speaker 3: and maybe some other some other folks from sort of
- 4:31Speaker 3: the conservation community. But I'm hoping to leave like three
- 4:36Speaker 3: or four spots for for media or trivia audience members.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Randall said he already has won seven questions.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I got seven.
- 4:43Speaker 1: How many questions do you think you're gonna do?
- 4:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna do ten. Play a standard game, no need
- 4:48Speaker 3: to deviate from a successful model. We will have a
- 4:51Speaker 3: tie breaker just sort of all the all the usual
- 4:54Speaker 3: fun I'm actually gonna bring, if you'll allow me to
- 4:57Speaker 3: take them. I'm gonna bring the actual OH boards. So yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 3: it'll just add to the authenticity of the whole thing.
- 5:04Speaker 4: The one with the cracks in it is the one
- 5:06Speaker 4: Steve uses.
- 5:08Speaker 1: In de view that Steve has tried to teach a
- 5:12Speaker 1: lesson to you by slamming them on the On the podcasting, I.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Came up with a great question this morning. I was
- 5:18Speaker 5: listening to the morning news. So if you want it.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You save that for a future episode. Yanni is hosting,
- 5:25Speaker 1: because I might tap you here soon to take over
- 5:28Speaker 1: hostings if you're willing sure later this summer. Later this summer,
- 5:33Speaker 1: we'll have another Yanni hosted episode.
- 5:35Speaker 3: It sounds fun.
- 5:37Speaker 1: All right, So June fourteenth, email Trivia at the medeater
- 5:40Speaker 1: dot com if you will be at BHA Rendezvous in
- 5:43Speaker 1: Missoula and want to play trivia.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Thank you all right.
- 5:47Speaker 1: The Shelby Index fort today is a five, so I'm
- 5:49Speaker 1: putting us on perfect score alert and with that we're
- 5:52Speaker 1: onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Oh,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I lost my look, I need to know what I
- 6:00Speaker 1: stand to win everything?
- 6:03Speaker 3: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Game on Suckers Question one, The topic is conservation. This
- 6:17Speaker 1: will be multiple choice in this first great question is
- 6:19Speaker 1: via carry Paine. According to a twenty nineteen article by me,
- 6:25Speaker 1: the most common ticket game wardens right is blank without
- 6:29Speaker 1: a license? Is it hunting, fishing, voting, or driving. According
- 6:38Speaker 1: to a twenty nineteen article that I wrote on the
- 6:40Speaker 1: medieater dot com, the most common ticket game wardens rite
- 6:44Speaker 1: is blank without a license, hunting, fishing, voting, driving.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I was trying to figure out how Saturday could be
- 6:52Speaker 3: the fourteenth, and that's because today's Tuesday. Oh, I had
- 6:56Speaker 3: the wrong day in my head.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Cracked the cup I lost?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry is bugging me?
- 7:00Speaker 1: I like the shirt you're wearing today. It is a
- 7:02Speaker 1: Taylor Swift inspired mosaic of baby Billy? Is it Freeman
- 7:08Speaker 1: baby Billy Freeman Righteous Gemstones?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yeah, just the algorithm offered this up to.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Me, okay, and you said I can't turn I was
- 7:16Speaker 1: a fool.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I bought it.
- 7:18Speaker 4: The algorithm has also offered that shirt to me. I
- 7:21Speaker 4: did not click through that.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Well, you're a stronger man than I am. I I
- 7:26Speaker 3: showed up at Steve's house this morning and he said
- 7:28Speaker 3: what is that? And I said, are you familiar with
- 7:32Speaker 3: the show The Righteous Gemstones And he said no.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I don't watch cereal shit that.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I said, it's sort of the show about about a
- 7:41Speaker 3: church and he said, so it's a church you go
- 7:42Speaker 3: to and I said no. And then he said, oh,
- 7:45Speaker 3: I get it's a joke shirt.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I get it.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And I said, yeah, it is a joke shirt and
- 7:49Speaker 3: he goes, huh. And then he said, how's the joke going?
- 7:53Speaker 3: And I said, it's oh for one at this.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Point, Oh, this is your debut of that shirt?
- 7:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, just arrived in the post.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Did you know it was a play on the most
- 8:02Speaker 1: popular Taylor switch, Not until you just said that, Like
- 8:06Speaker 1: the shirt from the aras.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Was that? I think it adds a whole new area.
- 8:10Speaker 3: It's a richer text.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Now there you go, Spencer, this the wording he's According
- 8:14Speaker 4: to a twenty nineteen article by me, the only thing
- 8:17Speaker 4: I can picture in my mind is that meme of
- 8:18Speaker 4: Obama giving himself the residential medal.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Well again, Carrie Payne sent in this question, but it's
- 8:26Speaker 1: According to a twenty nineteen article by me, the most
- 8:28Speaker 1: common ticket game wardens right is blank without a license, hunting, fishing, boating, driving.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni saying fishing.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Everyone says fishing. Everyone got it right. The correct answer
- 8:43Speaker 1: is phishing. In that article, I interviewed game wardens from
- 8:46Speaker 1: across the country. Six wardens from six different states told
- 8:49Speaker 1: me it's by far the most common ticket they write.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Wardens from Ohio and Alabama told me it's purely a
- 8:55Speaker 1: numbers game. They might check as many anglers at a
- 8:58Speaker 1: single boat ramp in one weekend as they do hunters
- 9:01Speaker 1: in an entire deer season. Question to the topic is woodsmanship.
- 9:07Speaker 1: This scale, which is named after the German geologist who
- 9:11Speaker 1: made it, measures the hardness of a mineral. Oh, the
- 9:18Speaker 1: room is stumped on question two. We just had a
- 9:21Speaker 1: one hundred percent. Now we may have a zero percenter.
- 9:25Speaker 1: This scale, which is named after the German geologist who
- 9:29Speaker 1: made it, measures the hardness of a mineral.
- 9:34Speaker 2: When you were halfway through reading that question, I was like,
- 9:37Speaker 2: I know this.
- 9:37Speaker 3: M Yeah, you.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Gonna We're gonna go with Richter? Is that gonna be
- 9:41Speaker 1: your an?
- 9:44Speaker 4: Not anymore?
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's not Richter. This scale, which is named after the
- 9:49Speaker 1: German geologist who made it, measures the hardness of a mineral.
- 9:54Speaker 3: This was used in a podcast in the past two
- 9:58Speaker 3: years by a guest on the podcast. Yeah, and I
- 10:01Speaker 3: thought that would be a great trivia question, and then.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It was except for nobody is going to get it
- 10:09Speaker 1: right and it appears, which means it's not a great
- 10:12Speaker 1: trivia question.
- 10:13Speaker 3: It is.
- 10:14Speaker 1: This scale, which is named after the German geologist who
- 10:18Speaker 1: made it, measures the hardness of a mineral. Randall had
- 10:22Speaker 1: an answer that it looks like he erased.
- 10:25Speaker 3: No, I was trying to spur some thinking on my
- 10:29Speaker 3: part by doodling.
- 10:31Speaker 1: This is question got too God, does anybody have any
- 10:40Speaker 1: hope forgetting this one? No, shaking her head now has
- 10:45Speaker 1: an answer.
- 10:46Speaker 5: You got some hope?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Okay, mm hmm. This scale which is named after the
- 10:52Speaker 1: German geologist who made it, measures answer of a mineral.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Yeah, what's his first name?
- 11:01Speaker 1: Not going to give any hints.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Do we need a first and last name.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm not going to give you any hints if the room.
- 11:09Speaker 1: If the room would agree, I would give one hint
- 11:12Speaker 1: that you guys want that? Okay? Uh? The the German
- 11:17Speaker 1: geologists who it's named after. His last name is four letters.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Oh, My answer is way.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Okay for letters. This scale, which is named after the
- 11:31Speaker 1: German geologist who made it, measures the hardness of a
- 11:35Speaker 1: mineral that did not Is this a common German name?
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm not going to tell you anything else. That clue
- 11:45Speaker 1: did not help anybody in the room. Though I don't
- 11:49Speaker 1: see any inspired answers.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I feel like I remember doing this in like junior high.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I bet there are some middle schoolers who are listening
- 12:00Speaker 1: against their will, who know this answer their parents do not. Again.
- 12:05Speaker 1: This scale, which is named after the German geologist who
- 12:07Speaker 1: made it, and measures the hardness of a mineral. To
- 12:11Speaker 1: our players, give up, yes, Yannis still writing, Yanni, go
- 12:19Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers, Yanni says cough. Alyssa says
- 12:23Speaker 1: pH Randall says bond Reva without an answer, Colin without
- 12:28Speaker 1: an answer, Brody without an answer. Nobody got it. The
- 12:31Speaker 1: correct answer is Moe's hardness Scale. THAT'SHS Moe's hardness Scale.
- 12:39Speaker 3: It was not used on a podcast. I take that back, okay.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Moe's hardness scale is based on the ability of one
- 12:44Speaker 1: mineral to scratch or be scratched by another mineral. It's
- 12:48Speaker 1: measured on a scale of one to ten, with ten
- 12:51Speaker 1: being a diamond. Agate, flint, and chirt, which are three
- 12:55Speaker 1: of the most common rocks used by ancient humans for arrowheads,
- 12:58Speaker 1: all fall somewhere betweween, six point five and seven.
- 13:02Speaker 3: What's the what's the one that like a knife maker
- 13:06Speaker 3: would use for the hardness.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Of don't know steal? Don't only answer to that one, Rockwell,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I think that's right. Question on the topic is fishing.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But his next great question is via Joey Gardner. This
- 13:20Speaker 1: ten letter word is defined as quote fish such as
- 13:24Speaker 1: salmon or shad that migrate up rivers from the sea
- 13:27Speaker 1: to breed in fresh water. We haven't had this before.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I've never had this before. Randall quick to answer. Brody
- 13:39Speaker 1: and Yanni have joined him. This ten letter word, which
- 13:42Speaker 1: is defined as fish such as salmon or shad that
- 13:47Speaker 1: migrate up rivers from the sea to breed in fresh water.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Boy, half of our room is confident that perfect game
- 13:57Speaker 3: didn't last long.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Did not question a five points? She was a stumper shell.
- 14:02Speaker 1: We got that one right, Jesus, because she is a
- 14:06Speaker 1: rock hound.
- 14:07Speaker 3: That's true.
- 14:07Speaker 1: It lives with the rock hound. This ten letter word
- 14:11Speaker 1: is defined as fish such as salmon or shad, that
- 14:14Speaker 1: migrate up rivers from the sea to breed in fresh water.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Speaking of rock counting, did you hear about this fossil
- 14:21Speaker 5: party that Randall's going to this summer?
- 14:23Speaker 3: No?
- 14:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought you might want to know.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Well, then, oh you did tell me this. Yeah, it's
- 14:30Speaker 1: like a weekend festival there.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Yeah, they do. Researchers present their findings, sort of a
- 14:37Speaker 3: community engagement.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Is there music?
- 14:39Speaker 3: No, no, no, Randall.
- 14:41Speaker 1: May bring the party.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Well then then we go out on a on
- 14:45Speaker 3: a dig on Sunday, Got on a field dig.
- 14:48Speaker 1: That'd be fun. Fossil rich Shindig is more of a
- 14:52Speaker 1: play on words.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yeah. My understanding of the origin of the event is that,
- 14:56Speaker 3: you know, there's so many researchers from all over the
- 15:00Speaker 3: world that go to eastern Montana to dig dino bones,
- 15:03Speaker 3: and so the the Carter County Museum, I believe came
- 15:06Speaker 3: up with this event to sort of facilitate more uh
- 15:11Speaker 3: engagement with the community between these researchers and you know,
- 15:16Speaker 3: the people that they essentially live with for several months
- 15:20Speaker 3: out of year. So uh, I don't know. It's a
- 15:25Speaker 3: tough ticket.
- 15:26Speaker 1: A lot of my favorite rocks I have in my possession.
- 15:29Speaker 2: You got to be a doctor to go or something
- 15:31Speaker 2: to get a ticket.
- 15:32Speaker 3: No, but it helps.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers we
- 15:37Speaker 1: have ianis saying anadromous alyssa without an answer, Randall Imbrody
- 15:43Speaker 1: the same answer. Colin says swimmer with swimmers swimmers. The
- 15:52Speaker 1: correct answer is anadromous. Some of the most common anadromous
- 15:56Speaker 1: fish are sim and smell to sturge and char and
- 16:00Speaker 1: and prey. The opposite of anadromus is catadromus, which are
- 16:04Speaker 1: fish that spend most of their life in fresh water
- 16:06Speaker 1: but go to saltwater to spawn. An example of this
- 16:10Speaker 1: is the American eel Question four. The topic is hunting.
- 16:15Speaker 1: This crossbow brand is named after King Arthur's weapon Randall
- 16:23Speaker 1: already has his answer. This crossbow brand is named after
- 16:28Speaker 1: King Arthur's weapon. Yanni is now joining him. This crossbow
- 16:37Speaker 1: brand is named after King Arthur's weapon.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Got this question, I figured the only one.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I've got lore, so much lore reading The Bright Sword
- 16:48Speaker 4: by Love Grossman right now, this is featured in it.
- 16:51Speaker 3: You see that movie The Green Night.
- 16:54Speaker 4: The Green Knight. I have not know though. I like
- 16:56Speaker 4: that is right up my alley in every single way,
- 16:58Speaker 4: and I have not seen.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It's weird.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna watch this beginning.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Made a movie recommendation kill says, I'm gonna believe.
- 17:06Speaker 3: So I don't remember anything about it other than it
- 17:09Speaker 3: was weird.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Your answer, This crossbow brand is named after King Arthur's weapon.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Colin now joining them. Have you ever shot a crossbow
- 17:21Speaker 1: in your life?
- 17:22Speaker 3: I've never.
- 17:23Speaker 5: Nope, never cocked one. Never. I don't even know if
- 17:26Speaker 5: I've ever handled one.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Honest, you don't know what you're missing.
- 17:29Speaker 1: A peers as though Randall has oh yeah, I'm in Ohioman,
- 17:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 5: You guys for a while, since you were in high school.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah yeah. The first year I killed was was with
- 17:39Speaker 3: the crossbow.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Imagine that there's still deer in Ohio.
- 17:44Speaker 3: My buddies, like in high.
- 17:45Speaker 5: School, tell the public that we bought.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Uh, we went out to Dick's Sporting Goods and we
- 17:48Speaker 3: all bought like those crossbow packages and just started going
- 17:53Speaker 3: after him.
- 17:53Speaker 1: That's fun.
- 17:54Speaker 3: They're pretty fun.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Somehow survived.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Actually joking with Corey. They were like going to go
- 18:01Speaker 3: do a photo shoot, some like lifestyle photos of like
- 18:05Speaker 3: shooting archery and sitting around a campfire, and I should
- 18:08Speaker 3: just take a bunch of photos of guy's pulling back crossbows.
- 18:12Speaker 5: That would have been good.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I've shot two bolts ever through a crossbow in my life.
- 18:18Speaker 1: My takeaway from those two shots was that the uh,
- 18:21Speaker 1: the learning curve is nothing. If you've never shot ye

- 22:19Speaker 1: Our friend just post a picture of that. Heather did. Actually,
- 22:23Speaker 1: when I was googling for the flavor text, that was

- 37:18Speaker 5: because you know, we got a lot of public lands
- 37:20Speaker 5: fighting going on right now. And interestingly, I had to
- 37:25Speaker 5: make this point this weekend when I was running the
- 37:28Speaker 5: Scout Mountain fifty. We had some other public land users
- 37:32Speaker 5: out there on the trails with us, side by side
- 37:35Speaker 5: users and some motorbike users and must have just caught
- 37:41Speaker 5: the day of bad apples. I was literally in a creek,
- 37:45Speaker 5: splashing around like a kid, trying to get my shoes
- 37:48Speaker 5: all wet. So it's starting to get hot out there,
- 37:50Speaker 5: and all of a sudden, I realized that there's a
- 37:51Speaker 5: dirt bike like centimeters from me, Like, I'm surprised the
- 37:54Speaker 5: guy didn't brush me as he went by. And on
