- 0:12Hello friends. Sean, here it is.
- 0:15Wednesday, it is the 8th of November and here we are middle
- 0:19of another week and we are working our way through the
- 0:23early 40s in the chapters of Isaiah.
- 0:26And if you were ever wondering, look, you might be in the middle
- 0:30of some crazy pressure you might be well, as in our house heading
- 0:35toward exams. And if the pressure is mounting
- 0:38and you're wondering who is it that gets you through this.
- 0:42This is the chapter for you today.
- 0:44It is going to talk all about the God who saves.
- 0:49What a wonderful thing that we don't just worship.
- 0:52A God who is powerful and who uses his power to take over
- 0:56kingdoms and and universes, but he uses his power to save us.
- 1:09How do we get so blessed, Folks? I don't even understand it
- 1:12myself, but here it is. In black and white.
- 1:16So let us read it together as we read Isaiah chapter 43.
- 1:25But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
- 1:29O Israel, the one who formed you says, do not be afraid, for I
- 1:36have ransomed you. I have called you by name.
- 1:40You are mine. When you go through deep waters,
- 1:44I will be with you. When you go through rivers of
- 1:48difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire
- 1:53of oppression, you will not be burned up.
- 1:56The flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the
- 2:02Holy One of Israel, your savior. I have Egypt as a ransom for
- 2:08your freedom. I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your
- 2:12place. Others were given in exchange
- 2:15for you. I traded their lives for yours
- 2:19because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you.
- 2:25Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
- 2:31I will gather you and your children from east and West.
- 2:34I will say to the North and South, Bring my sons and
- 2:38daughters back to Israel from the distant corners of the
- 2:42earth. Bring all who claim me as their
- 2:46God, for I have made them for my glory.
- 2:50It was I who created them. Bring out the people who have
- 2:55eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.
- 3:01Gather the nations together. Assemble the peoples of the
- 3:05world. Which of their idols has ever
- 3:08foretold such things, which can predict what will happen
- 3:12tomorrow? Where are the witnesses of such
- 3:15predictions? Who can verify that they spoke
- 3:18the truth? But you are my witnesses, O
- 3:23Israel, says the Lord. You are my servant.
- 3:28You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand
- 3:34that I alone am God. There is no other God.
- 3:39There never has been and there never will be.
- 3:42I yes, I am the Lord, and there is no other Saviour.
- 3:49First I predicted your rescue. Then I saved you and proclaimed
- 3:54it to the world. No foreign God has ever done
- 3:58this. You are witnesses.
- 4:01That I am the only God, says the Lord From eternity to eternity.
- 4:08I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of
- 4:12my hand. No one can undo what I have
- 4:16done. This is what the Lord says.
- 4:20Your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
- 4:24For your sakes, I will send an army against Babylon, forcing
- 4:30the Babylonians to flee in those ships they are so proud of.
- 4:35I am the Lord, your holy One, Israel's creator and king.
- 4:41I am the Lord who opened a way through the waters, making a dry
- 4:45path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army
- 4:49of Egypt with all its Chariots and horses.
- 4:53I drew them beneath the waves and they drowned their lives,
- 4:58snuffed out like a smouldering candle Wick.
- 5:02But forget all that. It is nothing compared to what
- 5:05I'm going to do, for I am about to do something new.
- 5:10See, I have already begun. Do you not see it?
- 5:14I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
- 5:18I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
- 5:21The wild animals in the fields will thank me.
- 5:24And jackals and owls too, for giving them water in the desert.
- 5:29Yes, I will make rivers in the dry wasteland so my chosen
- 5:35people can be refreshed. I have made Israel for myself,
- 5:40and they will someday honor me before the whole world.
- 5:46But dear family of Jacob, you refuse to ask for my help.
- 5:51You have grown tired of me, O Israel.
- 5:54You have not brought me sheep or goats for burnt offerings.
- 5:58You have not honoured me with sacrifices, though I have not
- 6:02burdened and wearied you with requests for grain offerings and
- 6:05frankincense. You have not brought me
- 6:09fragrant, calamus, or pleased me with the fat from sacrifices.
- 6:14Instead you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me
- 6:18with your faults. I yes, I alone will blot out
- 6:23your sins for my own sake, and will never think of them again.
- 6:29Let us review the situation together and you can present
- 6:33your case and prove your innocence.
- 6:36From the very beginning, your first ancestor sinned against
- 6:40me. All your leaders broke my laws.
- 6:43That is why I have disgraced your priests.
- 6:55I have decreed complete destruction for Jacob and shame
- 7:00for Israel. Jesus, what a colossal, firm,
- 7:07eternal foundation you place under our feet.
- 7:11We are loved. We are forgiven.
- 7:15We are held in your embrace. We are your family, and with
- 7:23that secure we are able to live lives of joy and assuredness,
- 7:28knowing that whatever goes down, the big issues are dealt with
- 7:33and held so gently and powerfully in your arms.
- 7:40Thank you Jesus, that you take care of all of that and love us
- 7:46through each moment. Help us always be cognizant of
- 7:55that incredible gift that you have given us and live with that
- 7:58rock solid assuredness that our life lived in.
- 8:03Faith in you brings us. We are so grateful for you and
- 8:09we love you and we praise you and it's in your.
- 8:13Name that we pray Jesus. Amen.
