- 0:33Speaker 1: behind us, and we're here to talk about Merry Christmas

- 0:47Speaker 1: go and stream it. Spoiler alert.

- 1:45Speaker 1: Appreciate Look, we are deep in holiday whiplash over here,
- 1:51Speaker 1: Like my house is very fall but we're talking all
- 1:55Speaker 1: things Christmas and I'm like, man can believe with stellth
- 1:58Speaker 1: pumpkins out y'all. It's October two, twenty seventh. That's we
- 2:00Speaker 1: record this.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, As I was watching Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper on
- 2:05Speaker 2: Saturday night in my neighborhood, they do a a like
- 2:10Speaker 2: a golf cart sort of drive by to look at
- 2:13Speaker 2: all the Halloween decoration.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Nice as I'm watching a Christmas where they're like beebeep
- 2:17Speaker 1: as I drive by. Were I really love that? I
- 2:21Speaker 1: thank cute, but I was like quiet out there Christmas? Yeah?
- 2:27Speaker 2: No, Hey, you know we love a good mail bag episode.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We do, but we need our listeners help with that.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So if you have thoughts on Merry Christmas, Head Cooper,
- 2:39Speaker 2: or any of what Hallmark is offering right now, we
- 2:42Speaker 2: encourage you to email us your thoughts at Girls Gone
- 2:45Speaker 2: Hallmark at gmail dot com, or you can leave us
- 2:48Speaker 2: a voicemail at nine four nine three two nine eight.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Zero nine zero. Nobody's going to answer.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Just call, share your thoughts and then we'll play that
- 2:58Speaker 2: on an episode.
- 2:59Speaker 1: That's right, we will. You did mention a little bit
- 3:02Speaker 1: of news and notes regarding Friendly. So Friendly is a
- 3:04Speaker 1: streaming app that many people use to watch Hallmark and
- 3:08Speaker 1: there are a lot of ways to watch Hallmark Friendly.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We actually, you and I, between the two of us,
- 3:13Speaker 1: have quite a few ways to watch Hallmark. You have cable.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I have YouTube TV, which is basically streaming cable. We
- 3:20Speaker 1: both have Friendly. We both have Hallmark Plus. I like Friendly.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I feel like it's a really budget friendly option and
- 3:26Speaker 1: it kind of gives you the best of both worlds.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You can watch live, it has a DVR. My favorite
- 3:31Speaker 1: thing about Friendly is that you can scroll back three
- 3:33Speaker 1: days in the guide. By the way, this is not
- 3:36Speaker 1: an ad for Friendly. No, but we would be more
- 3:38Speaker 1: than happy to partner with them if they wanted to
- 3:39Speaker 1: reach out to Girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot com.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark brought to you by Friendly this holiday season?
- 3:47Speaker 1: Come true? It doesn't it sound good? We also can
- 3:50Speaker 1: be bought if you would like. A Girl's Gone Hallmark
- 3:52Speaker 1: brought to you by Hallmark Plus. We use them all
- 3:55Speaker 1: and genuinely there's different things we like about all of them.
- 3:59Speaker 1: But you can go back in that Friendly guide and
- 4:01Speaker 1: hit record on anything you might have missed, which is great.
- 4:03Speaker 1: This is not an ad for Friendly, though. We're here
- 4:05Speaker 1: to say is Hallmark has started talking about the fact
- 4:08Speaker 1: that they are in the middle of negotiations and Hallmark
- 4:11Speaker 1: maybe leaving the app. You've seen this happen before, right,
- 4:14Speaker 1: Like you're watching network television and it's like Spectrum is
- 4:18Speaker 1: no longer going to carry CBS. You're at risk of
- 4:20Speaker 1: losing your favorite shows, and then they always seem to
- 4:22Speaker 1: strike a deal. Something always works out. So I'm not
- 4:25Speaker 1: sure if that's going to happen. Interestingly enough, if you
- 4:29Speaker 1: do click the link that Hallmark shares with this information,
- 4:33Speaker 1: there is of course a heavy promo for Hallmark Plus
- 4:35Speaker 1: on that link, which makes sense, which got me thinking,
- 4:39Speaker 1: what's the best move for Hallmark here?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think Hallmark is one of the biggest draws on Friendly, probably,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I imagine. So they have a lot of channels there,
- 4:48Speaker 1: Lifetimes there, the channel, the channel not be named there.
- 4:51Speaker 1: There are a lot of channels. Now they've beefed up
- 4:53Speaker 1: their programming, but I do think Hallmark is one of
- 4:55Speaker 1: the biggest draws, so I think it would be beneficial
- 4:58Speaker 1: to Friendly to make the deal ill Friendly was recently
- 5:00Speaker 1: acquired by Roku. But then I'm like, well, if it
- 5:04Speaker 1: goes away, is that good for homework because then it
- 5:08Speaker 1: drives more people to Homewark plus Or is it not
- 5:12Speaker 1: the best time for that to be happening, because you
- 5:14Speaker 1: don't want to lose your viewers in the middle of
- 5:16Speaker 1: the season, and many of them may not make that jump.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Many of them are gonna say, I'm I'm sorry, I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: not going to do another streamer. I'm curious. I'm curious
- 5:25Speaker 1: to see what can happen. I'm curious to see what
- 5:28Speaker 1: will happen. But if you've seen that on your Friendly streaming,
- 5:32Speaker 1: that's the deal as we know it as of right
- 5:35Speaker 1: this minute.
- 5:36Speaker 2: That could be old news by tomorrow when this episode
- 5:38Speaker 2: comes out.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Who knows. Speaking of news, let's hear a synopsis for
- 5:41Speaker 1: Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper.
- 5:43Speaker 2: A weather man, reunites with his high school crush well
- 5:46Speaker 2: on vacation in his hometown. Like. I didn't write this,
- 5:50Speaker 2: I pulled this from IMDb. The man was not on vacation.
- 5:54Speaker 1: A he went home.
- 5:56Speaker 2: For the holidays to help his sister on a fun true.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Very true. He was working, he was not on vacation.
- 6:05Speaker 1: True anyway. Russell hayn Line is credited with the teleplay.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Russell has seven writing credits and has written some of
- 6:12Speaker 1: Hollmark's recent hits like The Santa Clas, Three Wiser Men
- 6:15Speaker 1: and a Boy and The Santa Summit. The movie is
- 6:18Speaker 1: based on an original concept by Robert Buckley, and the
- 6:20Speaker 1: story credit is given both to Robert Buckley and Russell Haynline.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Robert Buckley has two previous writing credits, The Christmas House
- 6:30Speaker 1: and The Christmas House Two Deck Those Halls, both co
- 6:33Speaker 1: starring Jonathan Bennett. I've never seen either of those movies.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I have seen the first one. I'm not sure if
- 6:41Speaker 1: I've seen the second.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I feel like I need to go on a little
- 6:45Speaker 2: bit of a Robert Buckley deep dive.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah you think, I think you should think. The Christmas Contract,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I believe is a Robert Buckley favorite. And I have
- 6:55Speaker 1: heard that it is dreaming on Netflix. Oh really, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: don't even know if it's a home and we've just
- 7:00Speaker 1: seen a lot of people talk about it recently. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: saw some Instagram shares about it this morning, so I
- 7:05Speaker 1: may have to give that a watch in all of
- 7:07Speaker 1: our free time. M hm.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Jason Bork directed. Jason has sixty two directing credits, including
- 7:14Speaker 2: A Reason for this Season, Our Holiday Story, and Scouting
- 7:17Speaker 2: for Christmas.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Robert Buckley plays Ted Cooper. We last saw Robert Buckley
- 7:21Speaker 1: in an unexpected Valentine earlier this year, and he also
- 7:25Speaker 1: started one of our favorites from last season, twas the
- 7:27Speaker 1: Date before Christmas. It's really been a Robert Buckley kind
- 7:31Speaker 1: of year. I just every time I see him, I
- 7:34Speaker 1: like him more and more.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm still waiting for Robert Buckley not Junior from you.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Well. I know, I actually appreciated that someone used it
- 7:43Speaker 1: in our Facebook group the other day talking about it.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it's good to be seen. In
- 7:48Speaker 1: my mind, he will always be Robert Buckley not Junior. Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I can't even remember we thought he was junior.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I did Robert Buckley Junior? I have a long time.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Did we reference him like that for a while.
- 8:00Speaker 1: At least once? I definitely did. He's not.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Kimberly says Dead Place Hope. It's been almost a year
- 8:07Speaker 2: since we've seen Kimberly on Hallmark, where she co starred
- 8:10Speaker 2: in The Santa Class and Three Wiser Men and a Boy.
- 8:13Speaker 2: We will see her reprise her role as doctor McLaren
- 8:16Speaker 2: in the upcoming Three Wisest Men later this year.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Megan Hefferin plays Kate Cooper. Meghan has seventy acting credits
- 8:23Speaker 1: and fans will recognize her from Autumn at Apple Hill
- 8:26Speaker 1: and The Cases of Mystery Lane. Death is listening? Speaking
- 8:29Speaker 1: of the Cases of mistery Lane, did you see that
- 8:31Speaker 1: screenshot that Eric co host of Hallmark Mysteries and Moore
- 8:35Speaker 1: posted of one Paul Campbell commenting the Cases of Mister
- 8:40Speaker 1: Lane has been canceled. What isn't that devastating?
- 8:45Speaker 2: I've I honestly just feel like I've been punched in
- 8:49Speaker 2: the gut.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I know I had not seen that.
- 8:52Speaker 2: How is that possible? Those movies are fan freakantastic big mistake?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Right?
- 8:58Speaker 2: What huge mistake?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Huge?
- 9:01Speaker 2: I'm literally feel so pissed off right now. I don't
- 9:04Speaker 2: know how to recover Barbara Pollard please Ruth Mittens. Barbara
- 9:08Speaker 2: has thirty five acting credits and last appeared in Confessions
- 9:11Speaker 2: of a Christmas Letter from twenty twenty four.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Read and Elizabeth plays Hope's best friend Sydney. This is
- 9:17Speaker 1: her first role on Homewark, but you might recognize her
- 9:19Speaker 1: as Officer Brooks on the series Alert Missing Persons Unit.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Brendan Penny appears as newscaster Ken. Brendan has sixty three
- 9:27Speaker 2: acting credits and we last saw him as Gabriel in
- 9:30Speaker 2: the Hallmark mini series Providence Falls. Brendan will star and
- 9:33Speaker 2: the upcoming The More the Merrier opposite Rachel Boston. Merry
- 9:38Speaker 2: Christmas Ted Cooper was filmed in early summer twenty twenty
- 9:41Speaker 2: five in and around Vancouver.
- 9:44Speaker 1: We are going to take a quick break and we're
- 9:45Speaker 1: going to come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 9:57Speaker 1: what was your first impression of Merry Christmas Ted Cooper?
- 10:00Speaker 2: A little bit of a spoiler? Five stars before Halloween.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I didn't have that on my bingo card, but wow,
- 10:06Speaker 2: Hallmark came swinging' this year.
- 10:10Speaker 1: We have similar themes to our first impressions of mine. Look,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I had so many. I don't know about you. When
- 10:16Speaker 1: you take notes and you watch these movies, do you
- 10:18Speaker 1: think like, oh, that's a great first impression. Oh that's
- 10:19Speaker 1: a great I could have said so many things because
- 10:21Speaker 1: there were so many notable things about this movie, but
- 10:24Speaker 1: I simply went with freakin' Russell Hainline does it again.
- 10:27Speaker 1: He's too good. He's too good. When we say he
- 10:29Speaker 1: only has seven writing credits, and believe me, seven writing.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He's written seven movies. That's a lot. I've written zero movies.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But he's so good, and they're all so good. This
- 10:42Speaker 1: movie brought me so much joy. Does he not get
- 10:44Speaker 1: enough credit? I think he's getting the credit, but I
- 10:47Speaker 1: think I think it's special that this is year four
- 10:51Speaker 1: with Russell Hainline movies in the lineup, and they all hit,
- 10:56Speaker 1: They all hit, they all do. We're not like ol
- 10:59Speaker 1: Flone was a stinger on. It hasn't happened yet. No,
- 11:01Speaker 1: not yet. Let's talk what we liked. The list is long.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Buckle up, y'all.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I want to kick off the likes section with a
- 11:12Speaker 2: comment from our Facebook community. Yeah, it comes from listener
- 11:16Speaker 2: Steven and he wrote in Facebook, this may not be
- 11:19Speaker 2: only the best movie of the Christmas season, but maybe
- 11:23Speaker 2: the best movie of the year. Russell Hanlin wrote this
- 11:27Speaker 2: movie and there are many similar vibes to the Santa Summit.
- 11:30Speaker 2: He has a very individual, unique style.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So let's start with the first part of that. When
- 11:36Speaker 1: I was watching this, I was like, oh my gosh,
- 11:39Speaker 1: this is a runaway hit. I watched this twice and
- 11:43Speaker 1: I was so excited to get to watch it again,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm gonna watch this multiple times
- 11:46Speaker 1: this season. I rarely think that, simply because we have
- 11:49Speaker 1: so much holiday content to get through with this. It's
- 11:51Speaker 1: not like I didn't like that movie enough to watch
- 11:53Speaker 1: it again. It's like, I'm probably not going to make
- 11:55Speaker 1: the time I am going to read this. I agree
- 11:58Speaker 1: could be the best movie of the use. That's a
- 12:01Speaker 1: big statement. It is. As recording October twenty seventh, I
- 12:05Speaker 1: know it could be the it really. I mean, it's
- 12:07Speaker 1: gonna be hard to beat it haul out the Halloween,
- 12:12Speaker 1: huge runaway hit.
- 12:13Speaker 2: In my mind, this like out of the Park, Grand
- 12:18Speaker 2: Slam on World Series Weekend time.
- 12:20Speaker 1: By the way, wend Yes, I was smiling as I
- 12:24Speaker 1: was watching this. We love some calm in our rom
- 12:27Speaker 1: and Russell brings the calm. Yeah, but you know also
- 12:31Speaker 1: brings the calm. Robert Buckley. Robert Buckley is this whole cast,
- 12:38Speaker 1: This whole cast. The pairing of Robert Buckley with Brendan
- 12:42Speaker 1: Penny is so good. It's so good. Brendan Penny is
- 12:47Speaker 1: the arrogant newscaster. His final line, he goes, I'm gonna
- 12:51Speaker 1: have to sell my boat. I laughed out loud. I've
- 12:53Speaker 1: seen three times. I laughed out loud every single time.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I made you rewatch it this morning. Yeah, I was like, my.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Favorite line here, we have to watch it again, Like okay, yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 3: I love their sparring at the top of this movie
- 13:08Speaker 3: where they're like on the news, and then when there's
- 13:11Speaker 3: scene ends and he makes a comment about Ken's hair
- 13:16Speaker 3: not being his own, I just was like, wow, we
- 13:19Speaker 3: went there.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Your hair looks so good you almost can't even tell
- 13:22Speaker 2: it's fake. And he just keeps walking out and Brendan's.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Like, what the cut? Deep is so good. It was
- 13:31Speaker 1: the perfect amount of it. It wasn't just a cameo.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It carried it through from beginning to end. It's so good.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They're like brotherly energy, like just kind of mean enough
- 13:42Speaker 1: to each other. Yeah, exactly exactly. I want to talk though.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I really when I think of Robert Buckley, not Junior,
- 13:52Speaker 2: he doesn't come I wouldn't initially like immediately be like,
- 13:55Speaker 2: oh he's a funny guy, right, But I feel he's
- 14:00Speaker 2: got some comedy chops about him. He is so good
- 14:03Speaker 2: in this movie. The delivery, the timing, the self deprecating
- 14:08Speaker 2: humor in this it was all pitch perfect to me.
- 14:12Speaker 2: There is an effortless charm that is there that reminds
- 14:17Speaker 2: me every time I watch him.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I go, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's one of
- 14:21Speaker 1: hallmarks funny guys. We just need more of it. We
- 14:24Speaker 1: need more.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'm going to talk a little bit later about it,
- 14:28Speaker 2: but we just need more of that energy I do
- 14:33Speaker 2: in my life.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Me too. Ruth Mittens, Yeah, Ruth Mittens, mis Mittens. She
- 14:41Speaker 1: might be my favorite homeworks I kick of the season.
- 14:44Speaker 1: We're three movies in she says you can call me Ruth. Actually,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you can call me anytime you like. And then when
- 14:49Speaker 1: he says, like easy, there're Mittens. It made me laugh
- 14:52Speaker 1: every single freaking time. I'm hurt ted, I'm not blind.
- 14:55Speaker 1: She's so good. And then the addition of the Lackawanna Walkers,
- 14:58Speaker 1: the Soul Sisters a gift, like they take him shopping.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He's like, oh, they had me to the group chat.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Oh my god, can I tell you a funny story?
- 15:07Speaker 2: I laughed out loud when I saw this, this walking
- 15:10Speaker 2: group of mature ladies and their soul sister.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Is that what they're called soul sisters? Yes?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Recently say a similar walking group in my neighborhood, who
- 15:20Speaker 2: were also wearing matches show their name is street Walkers
- 15:25Speaker 2: love three walkers on their shirts.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I want to join their group. I know, I really,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I would like my own matching track suit.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Look, I thought all that stuff was so funny, so
- 15:39Speaker 2: well executed. When they show up to the Christmas party
- 15:43Speaker 2: and they're dressed like mean girls from the christ.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I don't know if you caught that. I don't think
- 15:47Speaker 1: I did.
- 15:47Speaker 2: They're dressed up like the four who do the mean
- 15:51Speaker 2: girls like Santa dance.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Santa dance. Yeah, I didn't notice. I didn't notice. Look,
- 15:59Speaker 1: there may be Soul Sister's merch coming to a girl's
- 16:01Speaker 1: gone Hallmark shop. I love it, so let's do it.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 16:05Speaker 2: One of my favorite things about this, and you touch
- 16:08Speaker 2: on it briefly, but I loved how they cut back
- 16:11Speaker 2: to the new station, like this running gag throughout the
- 16:13Speaker 2: entire movie of everybody keeping tabs on Ted's accidents and
- 16:18Speaker 2: like where they were on their like bedding. I thought
- 16:20Speaker 2: that was so funny. I thought it was so clever.
- 16:24Speaker 2: It just added a lot of layers to why we
- 16:29Speaker 2: would care about Ted's accidents. It wasn't just like, oh,
- 16:32Speaker 2: Ted's accident prone and that's just like an overarch, Like
- 16:37Speaker 2: everybody was invested in it.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I loved it, loved it, loved it. Yeah, they landed
- 16:41Speaker 1: the plane on that bit one hundred percent. The representation
- 16:46Speaker 1: in this movie did not go unnoticed, and it's done
- 16:49Speaker 1: in a way that I would like to see it
- 16:52Speaker 1: done in every movie. We have a wheelchair user as
- 16:56Speaker 1: one of Hope's besties, we have patient communicating via There's
- 17:01Speaker 1: a decent amount of racial diversity in the movie. This
- 17:06Speaker 1: makes the stories richer and they are incidental to the
- 17:11Speaker 1: story Hopes. Besty could have been anybody, and the fact
- 17:15Speaker 1: that she just happens to be a woman who uses
- 17:16Speaker 1: a wheelchair, it's not part of the narrative, no at all.
- 17:19Speaker 1: That's what that's how it should exist. It's not like
- 17:22Speaker 1: this is a movie about a person who uses a
- 17:24Speaker 1: mobility a It's like, this is Hope's bestie who happens
- 17:29Speaker 1: to get around differently than you do. Yeah, the end,
- 17:34Speaker 1: I just it's good. It's good, super appreciate it. Can
- 17:37Speaker 1: I talk about my favorite emotional moment? Yes, I cried
- 17:40Speaker 1: in this movie. I cried. I cried. Do you cry
- 17:43Speaker 1: when Ted asks her out via ASL? No?
- 17:46Speaker 2: I did not, But I did love that scene though
- 17:50Speaker 2: with he asked around.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Via I got very and she signs back your cue.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Such a touching moment they look talking about landing the plane.
- 17:59Speaker 1: There are multiple hallbacks that are so good. It wasn't
- 18:01Speaker 1: just like, oh, there's this patient that uses ASL. It's
- 18:04Speaker 1: Ted learns that Hope knows ASL because her father was deaf,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and then he shows up and has this really meaningful
- 18:11Speaker 1: moment it asks out, Yeah, it was good. It was good.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Here's the scene where I cried. They go to the
- 18:18Speaker 1: bar where they're gonna get the burgers.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Right, It's like they come in. He goes, let me
- 18:22Speaker 2: go get let me go get us some beers, which
- 18:24Speaker 2: I loved because if you don't follow Russell on Instagram,
- 18:28Speaker 2: you're missing out. But he likes a good beer, and
- 18:31Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I wonder if this is somehow
- 18:33Speaker 2: connected here. Anyway, he goes, let me go get some
- 18:35Speaker 2: Christmas ale and he goes to the bar and she
- 18:38Speaker 2: goes and sits down, and he turns around and looks
- 18:40Speaker 2: at her from across the room, and the music swells,
- 18:42Speaker 2: and oh my god, I get choked up.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Me too. I was like, wait, what is looked at
- 18:45Speaker 1: each so good? It's it's it gives the we like
- 18:50Speaker 1: each other. Something's happening here. It was they just and
- 18:54Speaker 1: she kind of looks away. Oh my gosh, I have chills.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I also thought I thought it was a real nice
- 18:59Speaker 1: pairing of sweet and humor. When Hope's trying to open
- 19:02Speaker 1: up about losing her dad, as Ted's face is rapidly
- 19:05Speaker 1: swelling and his throat is closing due to his allergic reactions,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and it is the perfect exemplification of him not wanting
- 19:14Speaker 1: to inconvenience people. There's a lot of good things in
- 19:18Speaker 1: the relationship between Hope and Ted that I liked, a
- 19:20Speaker 1: lot of things. We don't see a lot. We have
- 19:22Speaker 1: the misunderstanding. And as Hope realizes that they've had a misunderstanding,
- 19:26Speaker 1: she races to his house and confronts him about it
- 19:29Speaker 1: and is like, this is what I thought, and this
- 19:31Speaker 1: is what I heard, and these are why I thought this.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I love that, but even more in that moment, she
- 19:36Speaker 1: says to him, advocating for yourself isn't an imposition? Needle
- 19:40Speaker 1: point that on a pillow. Yeah, it was great. It's
- 19:43Speaker 1: a great line because I am not like Ted and
- 19:46Speaker 1: that I am a bright sider. I'm very much not
- 19:48Speaker 1: a bright sider, but I am like Ted in that.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It is one of my biggest nightmares to think that
- 19:53Speaker 1: I am imposing on somebody. Yeah, and I will almost
- 19:57Speaker 1: every time choose a path that might potentially make my
- 20:02Speaker 1: life harder if there's a chance that makes someone else's
- 20:04Speaker 1: life easier. Right, And I needed to hear advocating for
- 20:08Speaker 1: yourself as in an imposition. I liked that line.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I really That scene was incredible. It was incredible. We
- 20:15Speaker 2: watched it back this morning too. When she tells Ted
- 20:19Speaker 2: that he's surface, I my heart broke in that moment.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Oh, it was so good. And he's just quiet. Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 2: We haven't talked about the brother Sister dynamic. No shout
- 20:33Speaker 2: out Megan heffern She's great in this. I really like
- 20:37Speaker 2: her in a lot of other roles too, like she's.
- 20:39Speaker 1: In the We just talked about it. I can't remember
- 20:43Speaker 1: gone but not forgotten. Guys, this is a mystery lane.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Oh my God.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Anyway, I enjoy her quite a bit. I thought they
- 20:51Speaker 2: were great in this. It's part teasing, part love like
- 20:55Speaker 2: it nails adults at Christmas time. I you know, adult
- 21:01Speaker 2: siblings at Christmas time.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I loved all the poking and teasing, loved all of that.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I loved several moments in terms of writing the whole
- 21:13Speaker 2: classic misunderstanding, where like Miss Mittens was like, oh, this
- 21:16Speaker 2: is a classic misunderstanding.
- 21:17Speaker 1: It's felt very.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Meta, like this is like, okay, Hallmark fans, we see you,
- 21:22Speaker 2: like we know that the Hallmark movies have been built
- 21:25Speaker 2: on classic misunderstandings.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I thought it was great.
- 21:28Speaker 2: There was also a personal fave. There's a Liam nian
- 21:32Speaker 2: line in this movie from one of my favorite Liam
- 21:35Speaker 2: Nison movies called Taken, and it comes from Bestie Sidney
- 21:39Speaker 2: where she was talking.
- 21:40Speaker 1: About how she has skills.
- 21:43Speaker 2: She says, and this is a very famous leam Nison quote,
- 21:48Speaker 2: I have a very particular set of skills and like
- 21:50Speaker 2: it goes dot dot dot. I know you've heard me
- 21:53Speaker 2: reference more than once good luck. Do you know what
- 21:57Speaker 2: I'm talking about? No, I think I'd say at home
- 22:00Speaker 2: a lot. But it's this conversation in this liambay movie.
- 22:03Speaker 2: The movie, it's one of my favorites. It's one of
- 22:06Speaker 2: my favorite It's terrifying.
- 22:08Speaker 1: It is terrifying. That's why I could only watch it
- 22:09Speaker 1: the one time. But Liam Neeson is fantastic.
- 22:11Speaker 2: He kicks ass in this movie. And this is where
- 22:14Speaker 2: he comes.
- 22:14Speaker 1: He's light.
- 22:15Speaker 2: The guy on the other end of the phone is
- 22:17Speaker 2: like threatening him, and then Liam Neeson goes into this
- 22:20Speaker 2: whole thing.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Like I have a very particular set of skills, basically.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Like I'm going to come and get you. And then
- 22:24Speaker 2: the guy goes good luck. And so I always say
- 22:26Speaker 2: good luck to like a lot of people anyway, maybe.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Not to you. Anyway. I loved it. I loved it.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I love the Taylor swift eras tor mentions in that
- 22:37Speaker 2: I love a pop cultural reference. Thank you to Russell Hanline.
- 22:42Speaker 1: So I was prepping my notes and I posted on
- 22:46Speaker 1: one of the many social media so it's Blue Sky.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I think. I was like, I'm trying to come up
- 22:49Speaker 1: with a list of lines that made me laugh out loud,
- 22:51Speaker 1: and my list is so long. I said, Russell, how
- 22:52Speaker 1: about you just send us a script. We'll do a
- 22:54Speaker 1: live read on Girls Coming.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Oh my god, because my list was so long, but
- 22:58Speaker 2: I just need to share some memorable lines.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Well please, women cannot handle the hustle and grind of datium.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Meteorologist Ted calling his burger Mayo forward, Yes, yes, Ted,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and Hope. She's telling him five things about herself and
- 23:14Speaker 1: she's like, like romance novels and I like ramen.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And he's like, what kind of spice level? And she's like,
- 23:18Speaker 2: you know pg thirteen? He goes, I meant the ramen,
- 23:20Speaker 2: not the books.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Great, not a line, but simply Kate. At the holiday
- 23:26Speaker 1: party when Hope shows up and she walks into the
- 23:28Speaker 1: background head to toe buddy the Elf, I laughed out loud.
- 23:33Speaker 1: The Mark Harmon even smelled handsome. Oh my god, Mark
- 23:36Speaker 1: Harmon loved it. I also love the escape room. Oh yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 1: that was fun. Have you done an escape room? I have?
- 23:45Speaker 1: First of all, I loved Brendan because one of my
- 23:48Speaker 1: least for parts about the escape room is when the
- 23:49Speaker 1: escape room employee has to get into character and be
- 23:53Speaker 1: like an art heist has occurred and you need to
- 23:56Speaker 1: find the culprit before it locks you in the room.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Are you embarrassed for them a little bit? Okay? Mostly
- 24:02Speaker 1: because I'm no fun hm. So when Brennan was like,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you are Sanna's else, it just made me laugh. I
- 24:09Speaker 1: thought it was a great take on escape rooms. I
- 24:12Speaker 1: also thought the escape room itself, production wise well done. Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: when the bear sinks into the box, I was like, hey,
- 24:19Speaker 1: look at that. They spent a little money in this space.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I thought it was a fun idea. I thought it
- 24:24Speaker 1: was well executed. I agree, well, let've talk wishes. I
- 24:27Speaker 1: have just one y.
- 24:29Speaker 2: It's not even, it's not even. It's about commentary. I
- 24:32Speaker 2: read about the movie. Oh okay. I don't remember where
- 24:36Speaker 2: I saw it at, but somebody commented that they thought
- 24:40Speaker 2: Ted's bright siding would also be annoying.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Oh. I saw that on our Instagram and I just
- 24:47Speaker 1: feel for me.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Personally, life right now is dark. It's hard, it's sad,
- 25:00Speaker 2: it's rough for a lot of people, and I think
- 25:02Speaker 2: it's refreshing to have somebody who is joyful and who
- 25:09Speaker 2: can bright side. I need more Ted Cooper.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I need more Ted Cooper too. I was thinking about
- 25:14Speaker 1: their misunderstanding and I thought, how nice to have someone
- 25:17Speaker 1: who when Hope shows up to clear up the misunderstanding,
- 25:19Speaker 1: he's like, oh, that's what happens, and She's like, don't
- 25:22Speaker 1: you have more to say about that? He's like, well,
- 25:23Speaker 1: it's over, like you're here, like we're good. Yeah, why
- 25:27Speaker 1: would I dwell on? Okay, you ran away and you hid,
- 25:32Speaker 1: but now we've worked through that, Like why are we
- 25:33Speaker 1: gonna okay, let's be happy about it?
- 25:35Speaker 2: I know, I feel like because I think we're so
- 25:38Speaker 2: accustomed to like and then that leads to a fight
- 25:40Speaker 2: and like a bigger or a bigger misunderstanding. And I
- 25:43Speaker 2: just was like, okay, yeah, what's a surface, But it's okay.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Sometimes that's okay. Y. Yes, I did think she was
- 25:50Speaker 1: right to push back on you should advocate for yourself more.
- 25:53Speaker 1: But that is really my only wish because I do
- 25:55Speaker 1: think Hope maybe is a little bit too frustrated that
- 25:58Speaker 1: he's not willing to get up. And I think those
- 26:01Speaker 1: are two different things. Like I wanted Ted to advocate
- 26:05Speaker 1: for himself. Pick the job that you want, not because
- 26:07Speaker 1: some person gave you a job at one time. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: wanted that for him too, But I really feel like
- 26:14Speaker 1: she pushes a little bit too hard into wanting him
- 26:18Speaker 1: to be like, well, let's fight about this, so let's
- 26:20Speaker 1: get mad about this. And I really love Sydney's Oh no,
- 26:24Speaker 1: a handsome, gainfully employed man in a good mood. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: loved that. Yeah, to kind of bring her back to
- 26:30Speaker 1: where she made it to be. Also, I want to
- 26:32Speaker 1: say this is not a knock against the script at all,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but the limo scene packed with people blaring music when
- 26:38Speaker 1: you get in.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I was like, this is an absolute nightmare. And my
- 26:40Speaker 2: husband's like, wow, just a party of mi in and
- 26:44Speaker 2: over there.
- 26:44Speaker 1: And I was like, hashtag no fun. It's well known.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I mean I wouldn't want to get in. I love this.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Ted's like, yeah, crank it up right Like that wouldn't
- 26:53Speaker 2: be me. I'd be like, oh my god, Christmas music.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Stop right. If you order an uber and it shows
- 26:59Speaker 1: up with six people blaring music, I cancel it right there,
- 27:03Speaker 1: like duck and roll. Don't even stop. Just slow down
- 27:05Speaker 1: a little bit. I don't know who you're looking to
- 27:07Speaker 1: pick up. That's not me. Let's talk. Did you see that? Okay?
- 27:10Speaker 1: I have a few. Okay.
- 27:12Speaker 2: My first one is Ted's parking job. Oh, when he
- 27:18Speaker 2: locks his keys and his phone in his car. There's
- 27:20Speaker 2: an overhead shot and Ted's car is parked in between
- 27:24Speaker 2: two parking spaces.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Oh, he's straddling the line. Yeah. Oh, Ted, I was like,
- 27:29Speaker 1: that's so funny that that's like where there's no other
- 27:33Speaker 1: cars in the lot, he is in between like two
- 27:35Speaker 1: parking stalls. I wonder if there was some filming logistical
- 27:39Speaker 1: reasons of that. Perhaps When Ted and Hope go on
- 27:42Speaker 1: their first pub date pre date, Ted had been shopping
- 27:45Speaker 1: with the ladies with the Soul sisters and they're like,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I don't know, in a coffee shop or a restaurant together,
- 27:51Speaker 1: and Hope walks in. Ted is still in his pinks,
- 27:54Speaker 1: which we haven't even talked about the wardrobe. Ted's commitment
- 27:59Speaker 1: such a great bit that he's wearing the clothes. And
- 28:01Speaker 1: also one of my comments was like, how does he
- 28:04Speaker 1: look good in a sorority sweatshirt and his own jacket,
- 28:06Speaker 1: Like he look good in that outfit.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's still in that sorority sweatshirt.
- 28:11Speaker 1: In the moment when Hope comes in, they leave, they
- 28:15Speaker 1: they leave the ladies, they walk, He's like, I need
- 28:18Speaker 1: to drop this stuff off of my car. Commercial break,
- 28:21Speaker 1: next scene they're in the pub, he's in like a
- 28:23Speaker 1: nice cablenit sweater. Oh. And then as we were watching,
- 28:27Speaker 1: I was like, when did he change and I had
- 28:29Speaker 1: to rewind. There's when did he change? Maybe in the
- 28:32Speaker 1: car he just rips off that sweatshirt and he's like,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I it look good for Hope.
- 28:34Speaker 2: We missed a shirtless Yeah, Robert, we did we get
- 28:38Speaker 2: a shirtless street change?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Yeah? The scene that got cut and he's like, maybe
- 28:42Speaker 1: I should get out of the sorority somebody way in.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:46Speaker 1: Is that on the cutting room floor? Our email is
- 28:48Speaker 1: girls Gone homework at gmail dot com. Question for you
- 28:53Speaker 1: when he grabs the wrong suitcase where you're like, uh oh,
- 28:55Speaker 1: here we're going with this? Yeah, And it was so
- 28:58Speaker 1: perfectly execute because he's like, I'm just gonna wear this
- 29:01Speaker 1: crop sweater. Yeah, so good. Loved it.
- 29:05Speaker 2: One of the scenes we didn't talk about is just
- 29:07Speaker 2: here the ring camera footage of a camp practicing his
- 29:11Speaker 2: phone calls to Hope and the sister watching it.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Chef's kiss Perfection. Can I tell you one of the
- 29:17Speaker 1: most embarrassing moments of my life. When I was in college,
- 29:20Speaker 1: we had a like an we could send robocalls basically
- 29:25Speaker 1: like if you were like in an organization you need
- 29:28Speaker 1: to be like, hey, folks, we have a meeting whatever,
- 29:30Speaker 1: Like you could send it straight to voicemail, and I
- 29:33Speaker 1: was the director of an organization and would send them
- 29:35Speaker 1: regularly to my committee and I would re record them,
- 29:43Speaker 1: and one time it wasn't erasing the re record, so
- 29:50Speaker 1: I sent probably a seven minute message that goes, hey special,
- 29:54Speaker 1: Hey special, Hey special, games commit like I have not
- 30:01Speaker 1: forgotten it.
- 30:02Speaker 2: If the nineteen ninety nine Special Gang Committee is out
- 30:06Speaker 2: there and you remember the robo call that wouldn't quit,
- 30:09Speaker 2: that's me.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Oh audio editing is your brand? Oh my godness. And
- 30:15Speaker 1: the worst part is this is pre cell phone ubiquity.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Like a lot of people I knew didn't even have
- 30:22Speaker 1: cell phones, and it wasn't something we used. So these
- 30:25Speaker 1: were going to their on campus telephones that you shared
- 30:28Speaker 1: with your roommates. Oh so we didn't even have like
- 30:31Speaker 1: our own voicemail. It would be like there was one
- 30:35Speaker 1: voicemail because you had one phone number, right, so the roommates.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I vividly remember one of the guy's roommates who happened
- 30:45Speaker 1: to be probably the most well known person on campus
- 30:50Speaker 1: because he was this tall, handsome volleyball player who then
- 30:52Speaker 1: went on to play in the Olympics twice. And I
- 30:57Speaker 1: heard that person's feedback on that message. Oh my god,
- 31:03Speaker 1: the humiliation thirty years later still lives. Oh my god,
- 31:06Speaker 1: that is so funny. So I definitely I thought I
- 31:10Speaker 1: was afraid that was was gonna happen, that all of
- 31:12Speaker 1: those messages were going to go through. The trauma is real.
- 31:15Speaker 1: There's two Brendans in the movie. What There's a Brendan
- 31:19Speaker 1: at the escape room and then the guy who loves
- 31:23Speaker 1: the heiress tour, the producer, the camera guy. I thought
- 31:26Speaker 1: name's Brendan too.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I thought the guy in the escape room was named Russell.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Oh. They say it over and over. They say Brendan,
- 31:32Speaker 1: like at the escape room.
- 31:34Speaker 2: It seems to me that it would be kind of
- 31:36Speaker 2: weird where there are two characters of the name Brendan.
- 31:38Speaker 1: That's why I put it in my notes, his name
- 31:41Speaker 1: is Brendan. You also did not feel well this weekend,
- 31:45Speaker 1: so I really didn't. But I'm why would I have
- 31:48Speaker 1: thought there were two Brendans.
- 31:50Speaker 2: You were just so taken by a Brendan Penny in
- 31:54Speaker 2: this movie, and Penny.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Well, welcome to escape rooms his workshop. Okay, Brendan, So
- 32:05Speaker 1: now go to the end. The cameraman, what's his name? Hi,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'm Sydney. Brendan Brandon. Who's Russell.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I don't know, there's no Okay, maybe I'm confused about that.
- 32:18Speaker 1: So there's Brendan and Brandon. That's confusing. My fault.
- 32:22Speaker 2: You say you watched This Life? Did you fast forward
- 32:24Speaker 2: through commercials if you watched it unfriendly?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yes? Okay.
- 32:28Speaker 2: There was a Hallmark Keepsake ornament commercial, oh, which I
- 32:33Speaker 2: don't think I've ever seen before during a Hallmark movie.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Usually it's like Balsom Hill or whatever. And didn't we
- 32:41Speaker 2: learn earlier this year that Hallmark was trying to marry
- 32:45Speaker 2: like the Hallmark movies and the ornaments like together.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I think staffing wise. Yes, Oh, I don't know.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I just I've never seen a Hallmark Keepsake ornament commercial
- 32:58Speaker 2: before during a movie.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Oh. Interesting, I don't Yeah, that's all I play. The
- 33:03Speaker 1: Hallmark counted on a Christmas seepstakes, I'll do you and I.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Never went anything, but they often give away Hallmark keeps
- 33:10Speaker 2: It ornaments, Hallmark decor.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I gotta tell you.
- 33:13Speaker 2: My husband to order the Lacey Schebert ornament for his brother.
- 33:17Speaker 1: We have spent quite a bit of money on Hallmark
- 33:19Speaker 1: ornaments this year because they have a Gilmore Girls line
- 33:21Speaker 1: and my daughter is newly into Gilmore Girls, so we
- 33:25Speaker 1: bought the gazebo and they also have a Gilmore Girl's collection.
- 33:28Speaker 1: We bought the little, the tiny, little lore Line Rory
- 33:31Speaker 1: stuffed animals. They have a Gilmore Girl's lounge fly that
- 33:35Speaker 1: is so freaking cute. Yeah again not an ad but
- 33:38Speaker 1: no call us. Uh yeah. Also, my son really loves
- 33:46Speaker 1: the Pokemon character Piplup and I was I was like,
- 33:49Speaker 1: he doesn't have a piplup ornament and my husband's like, oh,
- 33:51Speaker 1: good call. And I googled it. There was a Hallmark
- 33:54Speaker 1: keep saying pip plup ornament A couple of years ago.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Found a new in box one on Poshmark Nice for twelve.
- 34:00Speaker 1: It definitely costs more than that in store when it
- 34:02Speaker 1: came out, I'm sure. And it has arrived at my
- 34:04Speaker 1: house and it is in approximation. Yeah, good thing. My
- 34:07Speaker 1: son doesn't listen to a Girl's Cone homework. One last
- 34:10Speaker 1: did you see that? Thank you to listener and Facebook
- 34:12Speaker 1: group moderator Mackie, who emailed us that in the original
- 34:17Speaker 1: airing of this movie, writer Russell Hainline's name was spelled
- 34:20Speaker 1: with just one L, and we do know from our
- 34:23Speaker 1: interview with him that He's like, everyone does that. He goes,
- 34:26Speaker 1: there's no Russell's with one l Russell Crowe two els. Yeah,
- 34:28Speaker 1: he says it happens all the time, right. She messaged
- 34:32Speaker 1: director Jason Borg and as it is currently streaming now,
- 34:35Speaker 1: it has been corrected Russell with two els. Yeah. I
- 34:39Speaker 1: noticed it when too, when I was watching the movie. Yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you mentioned it, and then as I was watching, I
- 34:44Speaker 1: was like, it's done twice. Yeah, one right back to back.
- 34:47Speaker 1: So Maggie, good for looking out. You're a good person
