- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: You're listening to tech Talk Radio and Hey, this is
- 0:06Speaker 1: Duke newkeom Hail to the King, Baby, Welcome to another
- 0:12Speaker 1: episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
- 0:15Speaker 1: de Weird, and I'm justin Lemme. It's good to see
- 0:18Speaker 1: you all. A pretty busy week.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I survived, brought away.
- 0:27Speaker 1: What storm is affecting Sean this week?
- 0:29Speaker 3: I feel like every time we record an episode, I've
- 0:32Speaker 3: got some sort of either I'm under thread of sphere
- 0:35Speaker 3: weather or I just survived a threat of sphere weather.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And this one you actually did kind of survive, right.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:41Speaker 3: So we were we went camping this past weekend, got
- 0:44Speaker 3: the camp route for the first time this year, and
- 0:47Speaker 3: I was with my parents and my friend Steve and Kate.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Caitlin was in Lafayette, Indiana, which is done by Purdue
- 0:53Speaker 3: in a wedding, and we.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Were the boys were asleep.
- 0:57Speaker 3: This is about twelve thirty Friday night, Saturday morning, and
- 1:03Speaker 3: we knew there was weather up in Michigan, and so
- 1:05Speaker 3: we were watching Ryan Hall on YouTube just to make
- 1:07Speaker 3: sure that there was no threat of severe weather. And
- 1:12Speaker 3: there's the theory is that if Ryan Hall mentions your
- 1:16Speaker 3: town or the town you're in, you better be heading
- 1:20Speaker 3: for a shelter.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So when he went when he mentioned Laporte, Indiana, which
- 1:27Speaker 3: is just north of where Potato Creek State Park is,
- 1:32Speaker 3: my mom came out of the motor home, was like,
- 1:34Speaker 3: all right, get the boys, we're going. We're gonna take
- 1:37Speaker 3: them over to the bathroom shelters and piling your truck.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, the sirens started going off,
- 1:44Speaker 3: our phones started going off, and it was like, I
- 1:47Speaker 3: was like, oh, and then it just kind of got wild.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We were watching the storm come in.
- 1:51Speaker 3: The lightning was getting intense and like we didn't think
- 1:53Speaker 3: it was gonna be that big, that big of a deal.
- 1:55Speaker 3: But it turned south pretty quick, like it it it was.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It was all of a sudden, it was hailing. It
- 2:01Speaker 2: like the wind picked.
- 2:02Speaker 1: South like literal south, or turned.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Out like it just turns south.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Whatever you got, you gotta fill us in here.
- 2:09Speaker 3: The weather turns bad very quickly, Like we were watching
- 2:13Speaker 3: it come from the west. It was heading west to east,
- 2:16Speaker 3: and I mean it was a matter of one or
- 2:19Speaker 3: two minutes and there was marble size hail coming down
- 2:22Speaker 3: the wind picked up to I don't even know what
- 2:24Speaker 3: it was.
- 2:25Speaker 2: We were all soaked.
- 2:26Speaker 3: We piled into the bathroom for about half an hour
- 2:28Speaker 3: forty five minutes, and then the oh yeah, there was
- 2:32Speaker 3: probably two thousand people in there.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah, oh wow, oh whoa. So if you weren't monitoring
- 2:38Speaker 1: Ryan Hall, y'all right, well.
- 2:40Speaker 2: We would have we would have just duck and covered
- 2:43Speaker 2: into the camper.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I mean it was it was.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I mean, we were watching the storm come in, and
- 2:50Speaker 3: I'm grateful that we had enough cell service to be
- 2:51Speaker 3: able to stream Ryan Hall. Like, if you don't know
- 2:53Speaker 3: who Ryan Hall is, he's a I don't think he's
- 2:56Speaker 3: actually a meteorologist.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, he's he's an amateur.
- 2:59Speaker 3: He's a he's YouTuber who tracks storms and has a crew,
- 3:03Speaker 3: a staff of people who are actual meteorologists track storms
- 3:07Speaker 3: for him, and he predicts where they're going to go
- 3:09Speaker 3: and tracks tornado warnings, thunderstorm warnings, et cetera. And then
- 3:12Speaker 3: kind of is like a he's a YouTuber and it's
- 3:15Speaker 3: he puts on a pretty good production.
- 3:17Speaker 1: You know.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Speaking of that, I mean, I've I've watched Ryan Hall
- 3:21Speaker 4: in the past, and I appreciate his production value, right, However,
- 3:26Speaker 4: he's got a lot of flack from people on the
- 3:29Speaker 4: internet about the fact that he is not a meteorologist.
- 3:33Speaker 1: He is just a hobbyist. He's an amateur, and he's
- 3:37Speaker 1: making light of I can't remember that.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I think there might have been a specific example, but
- 3:43Speaker 4: he made light of somebody who died in a storm
- 3:46Speaker 4: and made a joke about it, and I guess he
- 3:48Speaker 4: caught a lot of backlash for it. I don't know
- 3:51Speaker 4: all the different but he is one of the major,
- 3:54Speaker 4: major YouTubers that deals in meteorology.
- 3:58Speaker 1: There's a handful of mouth, but you look at it
- 4:01Speaker 1: in this point though, I mean, here's a real, real
- 4:04Speaker 1: world example. Sean was monitoring it, and I've seen his
- 4:09Speaker 1: his stuff. Nothing like that has really affected us too
- 4:12Speaker 1: much in Arizona. But I've seen his stuff. I watched
- 4:14Speaker 1: after Sean told me about him last time, and I
- 4:16Speaker 1: was like.
- 4:17Speaker 4: This guy's really good. I like his presentation. He's got
- 4:20Speaker 4: great presentation. And have you seen the behind the scenes
- 4:23Speaker 4: of his studio or his house whatever. No, No, So
- 4:26Speaker 4: it's actually two houses, like he lives on like a
- 4:29Speaker 4: cul de sac, and his main house that he actually
- 4:33Speaker 4: lives in is at the end of the cul de sac,
- 4:36Speaker 4: and he takes a little golf cart down to another
- 4:39Speaker 4: house that he bought down the street, and the living
- 4:43Speaker 4: room is that that what you see when he's sitting
- 4:45Speaker 4: there with the stuff in the background. It's the living room.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And then his actual like meteorologist, the younger, nerdy looking kid,
- 4:54Speaker 4: I guess, sits off to the side. He sits in
- 4:57Speaker 4: the kitchen of that house, a little set up like
- 5:00Speaker 4: a desk in the kitchen. They don't do any cooking
- 5:03Speaker 4: or anything in that particular house. It's literally just a studio,
- 5:06Speaker 4: but it is a residential property.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I thought about doing. My neighbor wants to sell her house.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I've thought about that. I thought, hey, I could just
- 5:13Speaker 1: turn it into a full fledge, you know, living room
- 5:16Speaker 1: set up for a studio. You could do you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: the garage could be a full on, big huge that
- 5:22Speaker 1: would be I'm glad somebody did that. I mean, it
- 5:25Speaker 1: would be fun, but go ahead and have fun with that.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Gonna be expensive.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, we need to gain a few more subscribers, ye
- 5:36Speaker 2: undred thousand more.
- 5:38Speaker 3: That buttet Now I will say that there's another one.
- 5:43Speaker 3: There's max Velocity is another YouTube streamer, and they kind
- 5:46Speaker 3: of went back and forth for a while before they
- 5:48Speaker 3: got big and pulled in by sponsors. Ryan Hall's primary
- 5:52Speaker 3: sponsors Weatherwise and the other I don't know what the
- 5:54Speaker 3: other Max Flosities weather app is Radar Omega, I think.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I use I get the Radar Omega from Ryan Hall.
- 6:01Speaker 4: That's what I started subscribing to it.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Outside of their live content, I don't watch any of
- 6:07Speaker 3: their prediction and stuff because a lot of their prediction
- 6:10Speaker 3: stuff is just sensationalized being on the live broadcast side
- 6:14Speaker 3: of things. Like, from my perspective, I appreciate the live content.
- 6:17Speaker 3: He does a good job. He does a great story
- 6:20Speaker 3: and keeps people informed and up to date with real
- 6:23Speaker 3: time weather tracking data.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah. The benefit for Ryan is that he's got all
- 6:28Speaker 1: these people stringers basically, that are in other cities, other
- 6:32Speaker 1: towns across the US that they can give him the
- 6:35Speaker 1: real because the thing is with radio and TV weather,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, we're kind of limited. We get the information
- 6:40Speaker 1: whoever you're subscribing to, whether it be National Weather Service,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know, Acuweather, or any of the others that are
- 6:46Speaker 1: out there, You're not seeing what's really going on because
- 6:50Speaker 1: that can change. You know.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It's funny that you mentioned that, you know, you mentioned
- 6:54Speaker 4: National Weather Service or acuweather or true weather or whatever,
- 7:00Speaker 4: weather underground, weather channel dot com, you know all those things. Right,
- 7:04Speaker 4: here's the thing I learned about this. Every single one
- 7:07Speaker 4: of those websites gets their data from weather dot gov.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And that's free, that's open, that's open to all US citizens.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's free.
- 7:20Speaker 4: So all you're doing is by going to like acuweather
- 7:24Speaker 4: or I don't know what, I'm sorry picking on ACU
- 7:27Speaker 4: weather here. But if you're going to the website, all
- 7:28Speaker 4: you're doing is getting served ads. You're getting the same
- 7:31Speaker 4: data that you could get for free without ads if
- 7:35Speaker 4: you just simply went to weather dot.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Gov, whether dot gov. Okay, that's good to know because again,
- 7:41Speaker 1: there's so many sources out there, and this Ryan Hall
- 7:44Speaker 1: has done just a great job with it. That's a
- 7:47Speaker 1: good example of a YouTuber that, you know, it's just
- 7:49Speaker 1: gained a following because of the service that he has.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I've seen some really good YouTubers too, and you have
- 7:55Speaker 1: different ones too that do it in so many different
- 7:58Speaker 1: you know, veins. So there's a new guy I've been
- 8:00Speaker 1: watch it lately. He's an old prop guy for for
- 8:03Speaker 1: motion pictures and I've noticed his count is going up,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and he shows how to make this is how we
- 8:09Speaker 1: make fake ice cubes, or this is how we do
- 8:12Speaker 1: the you know, the the arrow through the through the
- 8:15Speaker 1: stack of newspapers or something. It's it's there's a lot
- 8:18Speaker 1: of great content creators that are out there. Yeah, we
- 8:22Speaker 1: should do it kind of like a content creator of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the week or something like that.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, there there's a there's so many. I mean, it's
- 8:28Speaker 4: it's it's it's starting to get rare to come across
- 8:32Speaker 4: somebody who is a good content creator and has a
- 8:35Speaker 4: unique idea. It just seems like YouTube just kind of
- 8:38Speaker 4: kind of keeps rehashing the same old stuff over and over.
- 8:42Speaker 4: But Sean, I got to ask you one simple question.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Do you have a yellow meter?
- 8:47Speaker 2: I do not pay for anything related to Ryan Hall.
- 8:50Speaker 1: What is a yellow meter? What is that?
- 8:53Speaker 2: There's you can pay you can get specific te or
- 8:56Speaker 2: you can pay.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Like a subscription model to get activate y'all mode or
- 9:02Speaker 3: whatever he calls it, where you get specific things tracked
- 9:05Speaker 3: or Oh, but I don't have I don't have one
- 9:07Speaker 3: of his weather stations.
- 9:09Speaker 1: No I'm talking, I'm talking. Yeah, I don't have is
- 9:11Speaker 1: a meter?
- 9:12Speaker 4: It's a snow meter and it says Ryan Hall, and
- 9:15Speaker 4: it's the Yallow meter, and you put it out on
- 9:17Speaker 4: your patio when you get a snowstorm, and then it
- 9:20Speaker 4: shows how much snow you've gotten. And then you're supposed
- 9:23Speaker 4: to take a picture and you send it into Ryan
- 9:25Speaker 4: Hall and he may be like, oh, yeah, this is
- 9:27Speaker 4: from Sean and Indiana. It looks like the yallowmeter's showing
- 9:31Speaker 4: six inches out there in Indiana. Like it doesn't count
- 9:34Speaker 4: for drifts, It doesn't count for any of that. I mean,
- 9:37Speaker 4: it's just a it's just a prop and he's just
- 9:39Speaker 4: making money off of it.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, hey you got you gotta make it where you can. Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you got a hustle, baby. Somebody who has made a
- 9:46Speaker 1: lot of money for Apple is stepping down Tim after
- 9:50Speaker 1: fifteen years of running Apple, Tim cook is announc is
- 9:54Speaker 1: stepping down. A CEO, John Turnis is going to be
- 9:58Speaker 1: taken over. Tim will apparently become executive chairman of Apple's
- 10:03Speaker 1: board of directors. Turnus is the current senior vice president
- 10:07Speaker 1: of hardware Engineering. He's not stepping down. Cookie is getting promoted.
- 10:11Speaker 1: You think you think that would be a promotion, Well, dude,
- 10:14Speaker 1: who's in charge of the CEO, the board of directors.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, he got a good point there. He'll
- 10:19Speaker 1: be on the board. Yeah. During Tim's tenure at Apple,
- 10:24Speaker 1: he oversaw Apple Watch, which is still pretty good. I
- 10:27Speaker 1: mean I like it. There's options, of course, AirPods, Apple
- 10:33Speaker 1: Vision Pro, Apple Silicon, and that's all. During his some
- 10:41Speaker 1: of the big failures, people will note Apple Maps. I
- 10:46Speaker 1: always I don't even remember Apple Maps. It's assessments. Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 1: it's really bad. The Apple Car Project Titan. And then
- 10:56Speaker 1: probably one of the biggest things is they did not
- 10:59Speaker 1: take the AI push enough seriously enough to really jump in.
- 11:05Speaker 2: They didn't have the hard ware to support it.
- 11:07Speaker 3: They couldn't acquire somebody fast enough before they got too big.
- 11:10Speaker 3: That's what it came down to.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Like so and so, like I'm still waiting for Siri
- 11:17Speaker 1: to get better. I mean seriously, I've thought about, Okay,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back. I'm gonna I'm gonna get back
- 11:26Speaker 1: into the Apple you know ecosystem. Think maybe maybe get
- 11:30Speaker 1: a seventeen. I don't know. I love my I switched
- 11:34Speaker 1: to you know Pixel and I like it. The thing
- 11:37Speaker 1: that I would miss the most right now is how
- 11:39Speaker 1: we I'm able to use the Google on this. I
- 11:42Speaker 1: can't do it with Siri, I've tried, don't. I don't
- 11:46Speaker 1: get it. Same with Alexa, you don't get it. But
- 11:49Speaker 1: it seems like Google got it.
- 11:50Speaker 4: And have you seen this big movement now though that
- 11:54Speaker 4: people are talking about where it's called you know, well,
- 11:56Speaker 4: it's effectually known as de googling.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yes, no, what is that? So?
- 12:02Speaker 4: I mean you think about it. I mean it goes
- 12:03Speaker 4: back to the app old adage. If you're not paying
- 12:08Speaker 4: for the product, you are the product. Yeah, right, So Apple, Google, everybody,
- 12:14Speaker 4: like these Pixel phones, they're tracking everything you do. Every
- 12:18Speaker 4: website you visit, every app you have on there, every
- 12:21Speaker 4: text message you send, every email you send, they're tracking it.
- 12:25Speaker 4: They're figuring out who you are, what you do, where
- 12:27Speaker 4: you're going. It's all there. So people are saying, you know, what,
- 12:31Speaker 4: enough is enough? We want our privacy back. So what
- 12:33Speaker 4: they're doing is they're saying, you know, you can't really
- 12:35Speaker 4: do this with iPhones iPhone, you know, Apple locks it
- 12:38Speaker 4: down at a hardware level. But Android you can get
- 12:42Speaker 4: certain Android phones, not necessarily every Android phone, but like
- 12:46Speaker 4: the Pixel is one of them. You can wipe it
- 12:49Speaker 4: and install graphene OS, which is an Android alternative that
- 12:54Speaker 4: is truly focused on privacy. They don't track anything. It's
- 12:57Speaker 4: open source. You're not gonna get all of the creud
- 13:01Speaker 4: that Google tries to shove down your throat. There's alternatives
- 13:05Speaker 4: like we won't always mention that website alternative to dot net.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I think it was right.
- 13:09Speaker 4: There's alternatives to everything on an Android phone, whether it
- 13:13Speaker 4: be Google Photos, Google Gemini, everything you can imagine. There's
- 13:19Speaker 4: alternatives too with the GrapheneOS, And this gives you that
- 13:23Speaker 4: little bit of privacy back because Google is tracking everything
- 13:27Speaker 4: you do, and he'd be like, oh, I don't use Google,
- 13:29Speaker 4: I use it, or I use Apple. Apple's doing the
- 13:31Speaker 4: same thing.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Well, is the carrier also doing that? I mean I
- 13:36Speaker 1: would think, you know, if you're whether you're on T
- 13:39Speaker 1: Mobile or Verizon, sure to a certain extent, I mean
- 13:42Speaker 1: I would think you can't really get away from the tracking,
- 13:46Speaker 1: can you.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Well, unless you went to a full Mike meshnet or something.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Yeah, if you went to like a full VPN and
- 13:52Speaker 4: you just had VPN turned on your phone every single
- 13:54Speaker 4: minute of every single day, then yeah, your carrier is
- 13:57Speaker 4: probably not going to be able to track anything you do.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Because all traffic is encrypted. But who does that?
- 14:02Speaker 4: Nobody? Nobody does that. They just feel like, oh yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 4: it's a cellular network.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It's too inconvenient.
- 14:06Speaker 1: To be honest, it's too a convenient. Sean, you're you're
- 14:08Speaker 1: in the Apple ecosystem. What changes would John Turnis need
- 14:12Speaker 1: to make. Let's face it, though, you know we mentioned
- 14:16Speaker 1: a couple of failures, the company has brought in more
- 14:19Speaker 1: money than ever during Tim Cook's rainy operationally, the guy
- 14:23Speaker 1: was a genius. But what changes would they have to
- 14:27Speaker 1: make for them to continue to grow and stay with
- 14:30Speaker 1: where we are with technology?
- 14:32Speaker 3: No, that's a loaded question, but I think they have
- 14:35Speaker 3: to the problem is they're too big for their bridges, right.
- 14:39Speaker 3: They know that, they know that people will pay, so
- 14:41Speaker 3: they'll never drop their price to a competitive level.
- 14:43Speaker 2: They'll just they'll always charge more than the market value
- 14:46Speaker 2: for stuff.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Except for the Neo.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Well, I was surprised by the Neo, but that was
- 14:51Speaker 3: somebody looking at a pile of scrap going what are
- 14:55Speaker 3: we going to do with all this?
- 14:56Speaker 2: What can we make? What can we make with this? Right?
- 14:59Speaker 3: And they took a lot of quality of life features
- 15:02Speaker 3: out packed in decent hardware and made it run and
- 15:07Speaker 3: it runs good. I've used one, my coworker had bought one,
- 15:10Speaker 3: and I'm thinking about Gettingkaylin one for her birthday slash
- 15:12Speaker 3: Christmas if they're available, because they sold incredibly well with
- 15:18Speaker 3: the most recent release of the Neo, and they've even
- 15:22Speaker 3: talked about okay, well, they're about to release whatever they're
- 15:25Speaker 3: going to announce the next iPhone, you know, in this fall,
- 15:29Speaker 3: and they're talking about building another version of the Neo
- 15:33Speaker 3: with the I seventeen pro chip and twelve gigs of RAM,
- 15:36Speaker 3: because that's what's on the iPhone seventeen prochip is twelve
- 15:39Speaker 3: gigs of RAM, so that would be the next instance
- 15:42Speaker 3: of the Neo.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I don't know what they have to do.
- 15:45Speaker 3: It's hard because people aren't into a physical industry right now.
- 15:49Speaker 3: They're trying to disconnect from physical devices. They're trying to
- 15:55Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, everything's going cloud based, software
- 15:59Speaker 3: as a service. I mean, I just don't know.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It seems like the key for a lot of these
- 16:05Speaker 1: companies like Apple, Adobe, Microsoft has been subscription models. What
- 16:10Speaker 1: subscription models could they do the other than you don't
- 16:15Speaker 1: own your you don't own your Mac anymore.
- 16:17Speaker 3: It's all well, so look look what they did with
- 16:19Speaker 3: Final Cut right, they created the Content Creator Studio, which
- 16:23Speaker 3: took AI and professional features to put it behind a paywall,
- 16:27Speaker 3: so you.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Don't get everything.
- 16:29Speaker 3: When you buy Final Cut Pro for whatever it is
- 16:32Speaker 3: now three ninety nine or whatever. Then you can, on
- 16:35Speaker 3: top of that, subscribe to a bonus feature and get
- 16:40Speaker 3: constant updates. Well, I'm gonna get constant up dates anyways,
- 16:43Speaker 3: at least for now right right forward, but I'm not
- 16:46Speaker 3: gonna get I don't care about the AI enhanced features
- 16:49Speaker 3: for my editing stuff.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't use them, but a lot of people do.
- 16:53Speaker 2: But at what costs?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Right, I don't think if I'm buying again, it's the
- 16:58Speaker 3: software as a service model that kind of stinks, Like
- 17:01Speaker 3: I don't I want to buy the product, and if
- 17:03Speaker 3: I want to upgrade, let me upgrade later at my
- 17:05Speaker 3: own costs, Like I don't care, but I don't want
- 17:08Speaker 3: to pay monthly for a perpetual, continued upgrade release. I
- 17:14Speaker 3: want something that's going to work now the way I
- 17:16Speaker 3: need it to. And if I want to upgrade, let
- 17:17Speaker 3: me upgrade at a cost on my own terms, at
- 17:20Speaker 3: my own tea or if you will, Because constant upgrades
- 17:24Speaker 3: also mean constant problems. Right, they're pushing out constant updates
- 17:28Speaker 3: if you have auto updates on I run into this
- 17:30Speaker 3: with apps all the time.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I like my apps be cut.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Update on my phone because it just you get the
- 17:34Speaker 3: most use out of them when they're up to date.
- 17:37Speaker 3: But sometimes when they update, they take away a feature
- 17:40Speaker 3: that you liked, that you may not have noticed you liked,
- 17:42Speaker 3: or that it's so buggy because they're just constantly pushing
- 17:46Speaker 3: content for because people are consuming content at I hate that,
- 17:50Speaker 3: and not just in media content, but just content in
- 17:53Speaker 3: terms of productivity, content at such an alarming rate that
- 17:57Speaker 3: they have to keep up and already wants the new thing,
- 18:00Speaker 3: the new shiny thing, the new updates, new new new,
- 18:02Speaker 3: new new new, progress forward. And that's a weird culture
- 18:05Speaker 3: we're in right now, where it's like, if you're not
- 18:07Speaker 3: making progress, you're not going and you're not doing anything.
- 18:11Speaker 3: People aren't happy with the status quo just being making
- 18:15Speaker 3: a product that works and stable for a period of
- 18:18Speaker 3: time like they had been.
- 18:20Speaker 1: You know, do you think it's too late for Apple
- 18:22Speaker 1: to get into the AI game? Yeah? Well, or users
- 18:26Speaker 1: just using other sources now.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I mean they've already, I mean they they tried with
- 18:29Speaker 3: the Apple Intelligence and they immediately it wasn't even six months,
- 18:34Speaker 3: seven eight months, They were like, nah, we're going a
- 18:37Speaker 3: different direction. Here's open AI, here's you know I I
- 18:40Speaker 3: wouldn't be surprised if they partner with somebody else, or
- 18:43Speaker 3: they ride out the wave and don't go with you know,
- 18:45Speaker 3: generate someone smaller the AI stuff built in, bake it
- 18:48Speaker 3: in and release it slowly over time as it becomes
- 18:52Speaker 3: more refined. But I mean, the weird the A bubble
- 18:58Speaker 3: was so weird. It's so hard to keep track, but
- 19:00Speaker 3: I hope it bursts.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Let me ask, okay, so let me ask when it
- 19:03Speaker 1: comes to streaming content, and we have different ways of course,
- 19:08Speaker 1: Plex is one of those we've talked a lot about
- 19:10Speaker 1: on the show. But when it comes to like Roku
- 19:14Speaker 1: or Google or Amazon, is there any preference you guys
- 19:19Speaker 1: have when it comes to this stuff? Do you use
- 19:21Speaker 1: any of those?
- 19:23Speaker 2: Well?
- 19:23Speaker 3: I mean I don't stream from Plex, right, I mean
- 19:26Speaker 3: the big ones I have are Disney Plus and Netflix. Right,
- 19:29Speaker 3: he's with my Verizon subscript, Like what I pay for Verizon,
- 19:33Speaker 3: that's all all that's bundled into my Verizon cell phone bill.
- 19:37Speaker 3: So I pay a Verizon bill at I think it's
- 19:40Speaker 3: like one hundred bucks a month for both me and
- 19:42Speaker 3: Kaitlin to have our phones. Plus we get Netflix, Disney
- 19:45Speaker 3: plus ESPN who all wrapped in and I don't have
- 19:49Speaker 3: to have a separate subscription for those.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Right, so h there was a what about justin what
- 19:56Speaker 1: about you? Like, I mean, I use mostly YouTube TV.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I'll use Amazon Prime Video if I have to, like, right, well,
- 20:09Speaker 4: I mean I've got the Googles, I got the Google
- 20:11Speaker 4: TV streamer, so like it's got all my apps built in.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I don't use the apps built into the TV, but
- 20:17Speaker 4: if I have to watch, if I'm trying to look
- 20:19Speaker 4: for a sports event that I can't find, I go
- 20:23Speaker 4: to an app on my phone. It tells me where
- 20:25Speaker 4: to find it, and I'm like, oh, oh, Amazon Prime TV.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Okay, fine, I'll go to Prime.
- 20:30Speaker 4: I'll launch it up, sign in because I haven't signed
- 20:33Speaker 4: in forever, and I'll watch the show. And other than that,
- 20:36Speaker 4: it's like Netflix and YouTube TV pretty much.
- 20:40Speaker 1: The So Amazon just announced this week that they've got
- 20:43Speaker 1: a new fire TV stick HD streaming device that'll be
- 20:47Speaker 1: out a matter of fact, could be out in the
- 20:48Speaker 1: twenty ninth, and there's no power adapter. So if you've
- 20:51Speaker 1: ever had a fired TV stick, you know that you
- 20:53Speaker 1: had to you know, plug an adapter in and plug
- 20:56Speaker 1: it into the the fire stick, which was kind of thick.
- 20:59Speaker 1: They've slimmed it down. It can now run off a
- 21:02Speaker 1: USB port on the television, so you'd plug it in
- 21:05Speaker 1: to your you know, HTMI port and then you'd have
- 21:09Speaker 1: an adapter that would come off and plug in. But
- 21:12Speaker 1: it plugs into USBC, and I'm thinking, are there TVs
- 21:17Speaker 1: out now with USB C Nope? I mean I know
- 21:20Speaker 1: High Sense has got one, but I don't see it
- 21:22Speaker 1: mass being mass produced. No, there's no reason to.
- 21:26Speaker 4: No, there's no reason to I mean, uh, first off,
- 21:29Speaker 4: I can't even count how many times I've seen one
- 21:32Speaker 4: of these clickbait websites that are like, oh my god,
- 21:35Speaker 4: it's five reasons you should be using your USB port
- 21:40Speaker 4: on your television that you weren't aware of. Nobody uses
- 21:44Speaker 4: the USB ports on their TV, so like you know
- 21:47Speaker 4: all these articles talking about that.
- 21:48Speaker 1: No, yeah, I don't think there's any reason for anybody
- 21:50Speaker 1: to come out with the USBC.
- 21:51Speaker 4: However, if this is a USBC UH plug, you just
- 21:56Speaker 4: get an adapter a USBC to USBA.
- 21:59Speaker 1: They have a USBC USBA AA adapter that comes with it.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It sells for like thirty four bucks just for the adapter,
- 22:07Speaker 1: No for the for the entire new fire TV's just
- 22:10Speaker 1: gonna say, but okay, so it also has a new OS.
- 22:14Speaker 1: So they're now using a Linux based OS, the Linux
- 22:18Speaker 1: Vega OS that is that is going to be a
- 22:20Speaker 1: part of that. But you know, when I saw it,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I thought, oh, this is great. I want to get it.
- 22:24Speaker 1: The thing is, if you hear about it, think about this.
- 22:27Speaker 1: If you've got a four K TV, this is ten
- 22:29Speaker 1: ADP Oh my god. Yeah, it's only would they do that?
- 22:34Speaker 1: And I don't know why they they're not updating their
- 22:37Speaker 1: four K device which is still going to run on
- 22:41Speaker 1: Fire OS, even though they've got new fast channels that
- 22:45Speaker 1: are coming out that means free and AD supported that
- 22:48Speaker 1: will be out as a part of this new fire
- 22:50Speaker 1: TV stick HD. So if you got a four K,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you're not gonna benefit from it. If you got an
- 22:55Speaker 1: older you know, ten ADP TV, you want to stick
- 22:58Speaker 1: something in there for thirty five bucks, get those fast
- 23:00Speaker 1: channels with ADS there you go, all right, tell you
- 23:04Speaker 1: what we got to take a quick break. We come back.
- 23:06Speaker 1: We do have some listener questions that we will share
- 23:08Speaker 1: when we get back. A couple of good ones on
- 23:10Speaker 1: tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and I'm Justin.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Let me find us on the web at tech talk
- 23:16Speaker 4: radio dot com.
- 23:17Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So this last weekend, we went downtown Denver and uh
- 23:23Speaker 4: went to go to a Rockies game rock Colorado Rockies Baseball.
- 23:27Speaker 4: And when we went down there, we were taking the
- 23:30Speaker 4: train and as the train approached, the conductor was leaning
- 23:33Speaker 4: out the window. One trains fall standing room only, standing
- 23:36Speaker 4: room only.
- 23:37Speaker 1: We're like, why what is it? Or is it a train?
- 23:41Speaker 1: It's a it's a I mean it's more than a trolley.
- 23:45Speaker 1: It's it's an actual railcar. Yeah. Nice, but it's you know,
- 23:49Speaker 1: it's kind of like.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Any other big city, you know, uh, you know, the
- 23:53Speaker 4: Los Angeles or New York or Chicago with the rail systems.
- 23:57Speaker 4: But anyway, so we get on, We're like, why why
- 23:59Speaker 4: is this train so busy? You know, because there's not
- 24:02Speaker 4: that many people go into a Rockies game. I mean,
- 24:05Speaker 4: come on, face it, it's the Rockies and yes they're
- 24:07Speaker 4: playing the Dodgers. Yeah, it's whatever. But anyway, so we
- 24:14Speaker 4: get on the train, we get down there, and we
- 24:15Speaker 4: go to the Rockies game, and then I start reading
- 24:18Speaker 4: about these things and I'm like, oh, wow, actually there's
- 24:20Speaker 4: a lot more going on. So you got the Rockies
- 24:23Speaker 4: versus the Dodgers, You've got the Avalanche we're playing.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I think it was the Kings, I want to say,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I think it was the Kings.
- 24:32Speaker 4: So the Avalanche were playing in Denver Hockey. Then you
- 24:35Speaker 4: had Colorado Rapids the MLS Major League Soccer playing enter
- 24:40Speaker 4: Miami Football Club, which is a big match over at
- 24:43Speaker 4: the Broncos Stadium. There was a lot of sporting events
- 24:47Speaker 4: going on. As a matter of fact, I was listening
- 24:50Speaker 4: to somebody to talk about it. They were saying, Hey,
- 24:51Speaker 4: this is the first time in history that the four
- 24:55Speaker 4: top players in their respective industries, their respective sports have been.
- 25:00Speaker 1: In one place at one time. So you think about it.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You got sho heey Otani from the Dodgers, right best
- 25:07Speaker 4: baseball player in the league right now, Nathan McKinnon from
- 25:10Speaker 4: the Avalanche, best hockey player in the league right now.
- 25:13Speaker 4: You've got Nikola Jokic from the Nuggets, even though they
- 25:16Speaker 4: weren't playing that day. He was in Denver because they're
- 25:19Speaker 4: playing tonight. And then you also had Lionel Messi, the famous,
- 25:26Speaker 4: you know, football soccer star. Right now, he also plays
- 25:29Speaker 4: for Inner Miami now so he no longer displays for Argentina.
- 25:33Speaker 4: He plays for Inner Miami Major League Soccer. So anyway,
- 25:37Speaker 4: he was in town. I didn't know all this right
- 25:40Speaker 4: until way after. So after the game was over, we
- 25:42Speaker 4: went to a restaurant and then we started walking back
- 25:45Speaker 4: towards the Union station to get on the train to
- 25:47Speaker 4: go home. And as we're passing this random restaurant downtown
- 25:51Speaker 4: with a bunch of glass windows, Eric my son points
- 25:55Speaker 4: into the window and he.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Goes, messy, Oh are you kidding?
- 26:00Speaker 4: And I'm like I look over and I see this
- 26:01Speaker 4: guy sitting at a table. Okay, he looks a little
- 26:05Speaker 4: bit like messy. But I'm like, Ahna, the beard is
- 26:08Speaker 4: a little bit too long, that dap, that's not messy.
- 26:12Speaker 4: He's like, oh, well, it looks like messy. I'm like, yeah,
- 26:15Speaker 4: it's not.
- 26:15Speaker 1: It's not. Your son's a celeb spotter. I like that.
- 26:19Speaker 4: So this morning I'm going to work. I'm listening to
- 26:21Speaker 4: the radio and they're like, yeah, Lionel Messi was in
- 26:24Speaker 4: town and right after the game, he went up to
- 26:26Speaker 4: a restaurant right outside the Dairy Block in downtown and
- 26:29Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god, that's exactly where we were,
- 26:34Speaker 4: and yeah, that was messy. That was messy, And your
- 26:37Speaker 4: son picked him out. Yeah, I just randomly, we're just
- 26:40Speaker 4: walking by this restaurant. He just looks in and goes messy.
- 26:43Speaker 4: And so I told him that. Today after school, I
- 26:46Speaker 4: picked him up and I was like, hey, remember that
- 26:47Speaker 4: guy you pointed out and said I was messy And
- 26:49Speaker 4: he's like yeah. I was like, apparently that really was messy.
- 26:52Speaker 4: He's like, what, Oh my god, my friends are gonna
- 26:55Speaker 4: be sober girl.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, I saw a messy.
- 26:58Speaker 4: I wish I could have gone to meet on And
- 27:00Speaker 4: I was like, well, you never know, like when it
- 27:03Speaker 4: comes to celebrities, like some celebrities are cool, I would
- 27:07Speaker 4: rather just be left at Hey, I got to see
- 27:09Speaker 4: Messy up close. Then Hey, I got to meet Messy
- 27:13Speaker 4: and he was a complete a hole.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Like So, there was a website years I don't know
- 27:18Speaker 1: if it's still around. It's like something like within ten feet.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It was supposed to be people running with celebrities. That
- 27:24Speaker 1: whole bit and they would tell stories about celebrities that
- 27:27Speaker 1: were mean and celebrities that were nice. You've when you
- 27:30Speaker 1: guys worked in TV in San Diego, you you met somebody.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Were there any that were like that stood out as
- 27:37Speaker 1: being Okay, this person's not very nice. The the one
- 27:41Speaker 1: that first comes to mind by far Kenny G. Kenny G.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Who would have.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Thought he seems like it would be such a nice guy.
- 27:50Speaker 4: No, this guy was just I mean, I really wish
- 27:53Speaker 4: we weren't on radio right now because I would really
- 27:55Speaker 4: tell you the words I'm thinking of describing him with.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Wow.
- 27:58Speaker 4: No, this guy was so mean, so standoff ish. I mean,
- 28:01Speaker 4: I walk into the green room, which is you know,
- 28:03Speaker 4: where the celebrities go to before they go on set
- 28:06Speaker 4: to go do the TV right, and I'm just like, hey, mister,
- 28:09Speaker 4: you know, mister Kenny G. My, my, my parents, we
- 28:12Speaker 4: all love you. We've listened to your music for so
- 28:14Speaker 4: many years. I was hoping I can get a picture
- 28:16Speaker 4: with you. And he just looked at me and was like,
- 28:19Speaker 4: oh okay, quick, wow, And I'm just like, oh okay.
- 28:24Speaker 4: So I hand the phone over to his you know,
- 28:26Speaker 4: producer whatever or whatever handler and he cracks half of
- 28:32Speaker 4: a smile and he's just like whatever, and I'm just.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Like okay, thank you, and he's like U In the
- 28:37Speaker 1: picture it almost looked like he was trying to walk
- 28:38Speaker 1: out of the frame.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And as soon as the picture was over, he
- 28:41Speaker 4: was like, yeah, take your phone, get out. I'm like,
- 28:43Speaker 4: excuse me. I was like, I was like, I so
- 28:46Speaker 4: wanted to tell him all. I'm like, this is this
- 28:48Speaker 4: is my house. You're in my house right now. Don't
- 28:52Speaker 4: tell me to leave.
- 28:53Speaker 1: What about you, Sean? Do you have it?
- 28:55Speaker 2: I can't think of any bad ones. I've got some
- 28:58Speaker 2: good ones.
- 28:58Speaker 3: But I think one of the coolest ones I got
- 29:02Speaker 3: to interview Jane Goodall when I was in San Diego.
- 29:04Speaker 1: See that's amazing, Jane Goodall.
- 29:08Speaker 3: With her one on one with Obama, one on one
- 29:12Speaker 3: with Trump when he was running for president back in
- 29:15Speaker 3: twenty sixteen.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Really Mitt Romney, because I mean, there's a lot of
- 29:19Speaker 1: this happened.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I was in San Diego, right, so yeah, true, yeah, yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 3: I met so many Comic Con, was you? I did
- 29:25Speaker 3: so many at Comic Con because we covered Comic Con
- 29:28Speaker 3: when I was there, and I've just.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Met We interviewed tons and tons and tons of people.
- 29:33Speaker 4: So there's a couple of people that I've met before that,
- 29:36Speaker 4: like Tribune Tower, you know in Chicago, just going there
- 29:39Speaker 4: just randomly, I met uh uh, what's the uh the
- 29:42Speaker 4: guy from Iron Chef.
- 29:44Speaker 1: That the the judge, h Ramsey. I don't even know,
- 29:49Speaker 1: not Ramsey. He's not a chef. Well he was a chef,
- 29:52Speaker 1: but he's like the host of Iron Chef. Anyway. Yeah,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I met him just randomly in the lobby and I
- 29:59Speaker 1: was like, oh.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Can I get a quick picture. And then on another
- 30:01Speaker 4: time at the Tribune Tower, I met Bruce Campbell.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Oh that's kind of cool.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Yeah with the boom stick. Yeah, oh can I get
- 30:09Speaker 4: a picture? And he's like, yeah, I me your phone
- 30:10Speaker 4: and he takes a picture, hands it back to me.
- 30:12Speaker 4: He says boomstick. And I'm like, oh my god, I
- 30:15Speaker 4: need to change all right.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Who was the coolest celebrity that you ever Stanley Stanley.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Anthony Anthony Daniels who plays Seats Revial.
- 30:28Speaker 4: You met Anthony Daniels. Wait, he was a cool guy.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I've heard so much bad things about him.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Cool when I met him.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Wow, that's kind of I've never met anybody that has
- 30:37Speaker 1: met Anthony Daniels.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he came and did we did Star Wars, they
- 30:41Speaker 3: did he m Seed Star Wars and concert when it
- 30:43Speaker 3: came to Gun Rapids in twenty sixteen, twenty fourteen, right,
- 30:48Speaker 3: and we got to get all behind the scenes and
- 30:50Speaker 3: see I'll to go to rehearsal and see it.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It was pretty cool.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That is pretty and for me and I don't know,
- 30:57Speaker 1: you know, I lived in La so I went to
- 30:59Speaker 1: Hollywood a I worked for a while in the business
- 31:02Speaker 1: and I met people. I was just I don't know
- 31:04Speaker 1: what it is, always running to people like Frank Orschin
- 31:06Speaker 1: and uh Muhammad Ali. That was kind of a cool thing, uh,
- 31:11Speaker 1: mister t some of those people at the coolest I pitied.
- 31:14Speaker 1: The coolest celeb though ever met was here in Tucson
- 31:19Speaker 1: was Azzy. Ozzy Osbourne was, you know, and I heard
- 31:23Speaker 1: so many things about Ozzie was the nicest guy in
- 31:26Speaker 1: the world. He was nice to my kids, which is
- 31:28Speaker 1: what you know, I kind of appreciated. I still have
- 31:30Speaker 1: my signed Bark at the Moon Ozzy Osbourne lunchbox Metal lunchbox.
- 31:35Speaker 1: But uh, he was he could take it to work
- 31:37Speaker 1: with you every day. Yes, I do it right here, yes, uh.
- 31:43Speaker 1: And I've played Ozzie once here played on the day
- 31:46Speaker 1: that he had passed away at kgv Y. So I
- 31:49Speaker 1: don't know if the bosses knew that I did that,
- 31:50Speaker 1: but it was it was good. I played what they
- 31:52Speaker 1: don't know. Don't hurt him? All right? We got a
- 31:54Speaker 1: we got a good question in uh from the show
- 31:56Speaker 1: and it tied into something we talked about not long ago.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Justin it's from Let's see Larry says level listening to
- 32:04Speaker 1: your show was intrigued by your discussion a digital signage.
- 32:07Speaker 1: That's just from a couple of weeks ago. Is I
- 32:09Speaker 1: think it's a great idea, and I have a business
- 32:11Speaker 1: I'd like to have a digital sign in. Do you
- 32:14Speaker 1: know of services or companies that could do this? Could
- 32:17Speaker 1: I just run a DVD of our services and pay
- 32:20Speaker 1: a one time production cost. Also, if I do something
- 32:23Speaker 1: like a digital sign could it be hacked? And that's
- 32:26Speaker 1: from Larry and Tucsign right sign?
- 32:28Speaker 4: Well, yeah, well, I was gonna mention we're using bright sign.
- 32:34Speaker 4: It depends on what your use case is for. I mean,
- 32:37Speaker 4: if you're talking about a static image that you want
- 32:41Speaker 4: to display on a television.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Let's take like a menu of.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Sorts or something you don't even need You don't even
- 32:48Speaker 4: need to do a DVD. I mean, first off, there's
- 32:50Speaker 4: no television players that have DVDs built into them.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I mean, just use a USB stick.
- 32:55Speaker 4: Just take a USB stick, load up all of your
- 32:59Speaker 4: images that you want it, and then on your smart TV,
- 33:02Speaker 4: go to the USB device and just hit shuffle or
- 33:05Speaker 4: or play with a loop on, loop on, and it
- 33:08Speaker 4: will just keep looping through all.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Of those photos you need to. Roku TVs have that
- 33:14Speaker 1: capability with the USB stick plugged in to the USB
- 33:17Speaker 1: port and there you go. You could use it that way.
- 33:20Speaker 4: You can definitely do that. So I guess it really
- 33:22Speaker 4: depends on how much content do you want. Do you
- 33:24Speaker 4: want your content to be dynamically updated when you like
- 33:28Speaker 4: you need it. Let's say, for instance, you are running
- 33:30Speaker 4: a restaurant and you run out of hot dogs. Do
- 33:34Speaker 4: you want to be able to cross hot dogs off
- 33:36Speaker 4: the list on that menu right away? If so, then
- 33:40Speaker 4: you're gonna want a digital signage solution. Now, Andy, you
- 33:43Speaker 4: mentioned Roku, Sean you mentioned bright Sign. Not a lot
- 33:46Speaker 4: of people know this, but bright Sign is Roku. Roku
- 33:50Speaker 4: spun off bright Sign many many years ago. That and
- 33:53Speaker 4: their devices look like a Roku. They're the same purple color.
- 33:58Speaker 4: And and what bright sign allows you to do is
- 34:01Speaker 4: it allows you to put some dynamic content on there.
- 34:03Speaker 4: So what personally what we do at my position, at
- 34:06Speaker 4: my company, we run bright signs, and then what we
- 34:10Speaker 4: do on the bright sign is we design the landscape
- 34:12Speaker 4: because you get like a blank canvas. It basically like, okay,
- 34:16Speaker 4: what size is your TV? You say, I don't know,
- 34:18Speaker 4: like a fifty five inch TV? Okay, here's the space
- 34:22Speaker 4: that you have to work with. You can put static images,
- 34:26Speaker 4: or you can put little widgets like a weather widget
- 34:29Speaker 4: or stuff like that. Or what we do in our
- 34:31Speaker 4: case we subscribe to a third party content that literally
- 34:35Speaker 4: just puts up a web page and that web page
- 34:38Speaker 4: is like a menu of our items that we're having
- 34:40Speaker 4: for sale at that particular spot. This allows us to
- 34:43Speaker 4: not have to deal with the bright sign because if
- 34:45Speaker 4: you go into a bright sign and you let's say
- 34:47Speaker 4: you update it and then you publish that content to
- 34:50Speaker 4: the bright Sign, it has to reboot and then display
- 34:55Speaker 4: the content.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 4: So by having a third party that runs an HTML,
- 35:00Speaker 4: you know, website, the bright sign is literally just pointing
- 35:03Speaker 4: out a website saying here whatever's on this website. Read
- 35:06Speaker 4: all of it right, and so we put our menus
- 35:08Speaker 4: on the website, and then the website then is displayed
- 35:11Speaker 4: on the bright sign. So if we run out of
- 35:13Speaker 4: an item, we can easily go to that website's uh
- 35:17Speaker 4: you know, user portal, admin portal and just say cross
- 35:20Speaker 4: this item off the list and instantly it's displayed on
- 35:24Speaker 4: the bright sign.
- 35:24Speaker 1: One of the apps for Roku TV is a is
- 35:28Speaker 1: a basically a slide show, so depending on his needs.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I know that some real estate agents have been doing
- 35:35Speaker 1: this where they put like a TV like in a
- 35:38Speaker 1: home that they're showing that will show other like the
- 35:41Speaker 1: features of the home in like a slide show. You know.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Maybe not usually those are just USB sticks. Yeah, I
- 35:47Speaker 1: would think so, so that might work. I found that
- 35:49Speaker 1: there's another company I just looked it up called XCO
- 35:53Speaker 1: and that's Xogo dot Io. Uh, they'll give you a
- 35:57Speaker 1: chance to even try it out. But bright sign sounds
- 35:59Speaker 1: like that might be one. Xogo dot Io would be good.
- 36:03Speaker 4: The other the other question that he had there was
- 36:05Speaker 4: can this be hacked? If I'm using a digital signage thing.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Anything you put on the Internet can be hacked, period. Sorry,
- 36:15Speaker 4: it doesn't matter. Could yeah, yeah, it doesn't matter what
- 36:18Speaker 4: you're doing. Anything you put on the Internet can be hacked.
- 36:22Speaker 1: All right, good points, All right, Coming up, we haven't
- 36:24Speaker 1: talked to her for a while. Yesterday we were going
- 36:27Speaker 1: to get together and do the show, all four of us,
- 36:30Speaker 1: but she wasn't able to be here today. So I
- 36:33Speaker 1: got a chance yesterday to talk with Amanda about education AI,
- 36:38Speaker 1: how they're teaching AI in the schools. Oh, if you've
- 36:40Speaker 1: got it, if you've got a kid, or you've you know,
- 36:43Speaker 1: you know somebody that's going to school, or you want
- 36:44Speaker 1: to or you're an educator, you want to tune in
- 36:46Speaker 1: for that as we'll talk with one of our show
- 36:49Speaker 1: co hosts. It's been out for a bit. She promises
- 36:52Speaker 1: she will be back soon to do one with all
- 36:54Speaker 1: of us. Amanda coming up next on tech Talk Radio.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Sean de Weird, and I'm justin.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Let me send us an X at tech talk Radio.
- 37:02Speaker 4: We'll be right back.
- 37:04Speaker 1: You know, not long ago, we had one of our
- 37:06Speaker 1: listeners send adulte to us, going what happened to that
- 37:10Speaker 1: girl that was on the show. She was great, that's
- 37:13Speaker 1: so much info and you know, we knew all you're
- 37:17Speaker 1: talking about Amanda. Yeah, okay, Well it was great because
- 37:20Speaker 1: I was able to reach out to Amanda and wanted
- 37:22Speaker 1: to get her on to talk about something that's very
- 37:25Speaker 1: important to so many of his parents' grandparents, you know,
- 37:28Speaker 1: anybody that has children that are attending school to find
- 37:32Speaker 1: out what is the latest really with technology and education.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And Amanda's with us here, one of our tech talk
- 37:38Speaker 1: radio hosts. Although you know she runs busy, so she's
- 37:41Speaker 1: always welcome anytime. It's good to see you.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Thank you. It's so good to see you.
- 37:47Speaker 6: It's going to be back and kind of get in
- 37:49Speaker 6: the swing of things because a lot has happened since
- 37:51Speaker 6: we last talked, especially in the AI realm and the
- 37:54Speaker 6: ed tech realm for sure.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and there are a lot of people
- 37:57Speaker 1: wondering about that merging Amanda about AI and education and
- 38:03Speaker 1: you know, does it come into play. There have been
- 38:07Speaker 1: some that have said keep AI out of the classroom,
- 38:09Speaker 1: but you know, my thoughts on that are that they're
- 38:13Speaker 1: missing out then because it's rolling along and we have
- 38:16Speaker 1: to be a part of it. How is how is
- 38:19Speaker 1: public education looking at that?
- 38:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it's different everywhere right now, and so The biggest
- 38:25Speaker 6: thing that I've noticed in the space is there are
- 38:30Speaker 6: so many different frameworks that are being created from ed
- 38:34Speaker 6: tech people and people with expertise in different areas. There
- 38:39Speaker 6: are so many different definitions that are coming out right
- 38:42Speaker 6: now about AI literacy, and so like that's where I
- 38:45Speaker 6: spend the bulk of my time when I'm doing some research,
- 38:48Speaker 6: because this is not new technology. I think we think
- 38:51Speaker 6: this is very very very new. And when we look
- 38:54Speaker 6: back from like the web two point oh where we
- 38:57Speaker 6: are from web web one point oh, going way back then, right,
- 39:01Speaker 6: we have lots and lots of different AI versions that
- 39:04Speaker 6: have been out. So when we're looking at generative AI,
- 39:07Speaker 6: which is normally what people are talking about, the chatbots,
- 39:10Speaker 6: the you know, uh chat jpts, the co pilot, all
- 39:14Speaker 6: those those other anthropic yeah, all of those other tools
- 39:17Speaker 6: that are out there, Claud, it's really like almost like
- 39:22Speaker 6: when Web two point zero started being like ReadWrite.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Is how I look at it.
- 39:26Speaker 6: And so looking back in the past and going how
- 39:28Speaker 6: did we do this back then? How did we write policy?
- 39:32Speaker 6: What is transparent or not? And how does that look
- 39:36Speaker 6: for student data privacy? What families are you know, how
- 39:40Speaker 6: are families getting involved? In this and how that privacy
- 39:43Speaker 6: policy may or may not be as transparent as some
- 39:46Speaker 6: of these ad tech companies might be selling to us.
- 39:48Speaker 1: You know, it seemed like when we first started hearing
- 39:51Speaker 1: about AI and the classroom, you know, the big concern was, well,
- 39:56Speaker 1: a student could just create a report, you know, using
- 40:00Speaker 1: one of the many services out there, even notebook LM,
- 40:02Speaker 1: which is really good for stuff like around education, but
- 40:05Speaker 1: they could just create a report not even understand it.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Are you finding that to be an issue or are
- 40:12Speaker 1: educators becoming, i want to say, maybe geared up for
- 40:16Speaker 1: how to tell when something is not being studied and
- 40:19Speaker 1: instead just being generated.
- 40:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a really good question. Our students are very smart.
- 40:28Speaker 5: I won't say that.
- 40:30Speaker 6: I feel like I was, but maybe I wasn't as
- 40:34Speaker 6: smart as I thought back then. But every time it
- 40:38Speaker 6: seems like there's a new tool that comes out, right,
- 40:42Speaker 6: there's another tool that gets shared of how to go
- 40:45Speaker 6: around that barrier. So it's that every evolving tech issue
- 40:49Speaker 6: that we have, not just an education but in general.
- 40:52Speaker 6: For example, there's AI humanizers and things like that that
- 40:55Speaker 6: are out there now that you know, we used to
- 40:57Speaker 6: be able to look on Google while students were typing
- 40:59Speaker 6: and see what it looked like when they were typing.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Live into that thing.
- 41:04Speaker 6: So now you can actually put a bod on there
- 41:07Speaker 6: that mimics human typing, so it makes it kind of
- 41:11Speaker 6: trick the educator.
- 41:12Speaker 5: So we really have.
- 41:13Speaker 6: To be informed citizens, not just educators, but families as well,
- 41:18Speaker 6: and just do our diligence the best we can to
- 41:21Speaker 6: support one another in this work. Because every time somebody
- 41:25Speaker 6: says there's a plagiarism checker that works, that has been
- 41:28Speaker 6: proven research, research, research, you can do it out there
- 41:32Speaker 6: has proven that's false. There have been friends who put
- 41:35Speaker 6: like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for example, into these plagiarism checkers
- 41:39Speaker 6: and it's like eighty nine percent. I also have some
- 41:42Speaker 6: friends that have had Like I have a friend that
- 41:45Speaker 6: has a daughter at USC currently here in southern California,
- 41:49Speaker 6: and some of her work got flagged for plagiarism, but
- 41:53Speaker 6: they he knows that they worked on it together. So
- 41:56Speaker 6: it's really hard to use these pieces of technology and
- 41:59Speaker 6: to acern is this student created or is this something
- 42:04Speaker 6: that's generated with AI. So we really have to be
- 42:07Speaker 6: creative as educators and be mindfuls at home. You know,
- 42:12Speaker 6: our students sitting on a computer creating something, or do
- 42:16Speaker 6: we have to like maybe pull out some patent paper
- 42:18Speaker 6: once in a while and use that as our draft
- 42:20Speaker 6: or as our check so really being diligent. And also
- 42:24Speaker 6: do I put a little disclaimer at the bottom, like
- 42:26Speaker 6: this was edited with AI? You know, do I need
- 42:29Speaker 6: to put something in my email if I'm generating it
- 42:31Speaker 6: with AI? Those kind of questions come up, for sure.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I remember when I used to get home from school,
- 42:36Speaker 1: and you know, my my mom or dad that was
- 42:38Speaker 1: home would would tell me, okay, home mark. I'd go
- 42:41Speaker 1: sit at a table, I got a book. I'd have
- 42:44Speaker 1: to read a couple of paragraphs, you know, a couple
- 42:46Speaker 1: of pages from a book and write down what I had.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And that's how it was. And of course when computers
- 42:53Speaker 1: came along that made it a lot different. Before that,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you even had typewriters, you'd have to type it out.
- 42:59Speaker 1: We see all this progressing, but I honestly feel that
- 43:03Speaker 1: in many ways, the kids are getting more. They're getting
- 43:06Speaker 1: they're getting smarter, they're I think maybe they're absorbing it better.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I don't want to tell you, you know, let a computer
- 43:14Speaker 1: screen take over from a book, but I think I
- 43:16Speaker 1: have a feeling they are, and I don't know if
- 43:18Speaker 1: that's because of being using you know, using tools like
- 43:22Speaker 1: anthropic or or chat GPT or some of the others
- 43:25Speaker 1: that maybe there might be some more absorption of that information.
- 43:29Speaker 6: I think it just depends on how we're defining reading
- 43:34Speaker 6: right for first and foremost, because for me myself as
- 43:38Speaker 6: an adult, I prefer listening to audiobooks. And yes, sometimes
- 43:42Speaker 6: I might have that chapter book next to me, you know,
- 43:45Speaker 6: or look through it and go and highlight it like
- 43:47Speaker 6: I used to do in college. But really it depends
- 43:51Speaker 6: on it. It's kind of opening up the opportunities for
- 43:54Speaker 6: our students that learn differently, think differently, maybe process differently.
- 43:59Speaker 6: I'm thinking of students specifically that are neurodivergent, have ADHD,
- 44:04Speaker 6: or maybe they are, you know, dyslexic in some ways.
- 44:07Speaker 6: Also multi lingual learners, like if you're learning a brand
- 44:11Speaker 6: new language, it's it's a lot of cognitive load just
- 44:14Speaker 6: to try to study that language, you know, I mean
- 44:18Speaker 6: from experience, right, And so it is lessening some of
- 44:22Speaker 6: that initial cognitive load for students and then helping them
- 44:26Speaker 6: access what that curriculum or what that content is so
- 44:30Speaker 6: I get the idea that yes, if we're using AI
- 44:33Speaker 6: every single day, all day long, of course that's not
- 44:37Speaker 6: going to build the muscles in our brain. And one
- 44:39Speaker 6: of my buddies, Scott Bricker, he talks all the time
- 44:42Speaker 6: about this. He's like, if you're not building muscle by
- 44:45Speaker 6: pumping iron and you're just applying I don't know, some
- 44:49Speaker 6: kind of technology filter, you're probably not going to build
- 44:52Speaker 6: that muscle. And I think of our brain like that too,
- 44:55Speaker 6: So we're not making connections with things. But if you do,
- 45:00Speaker 6: you have learning needs that are different than the general population.
- 45:03Speaker 6: I see it as a huge benefit. You mentioned notebook LM.
- 45:08Speaker 6: I recently took an assessment for my administrator's credential and
- 45:11Speaker 6: I use Notebook LM to help me study and I passed,
- 45:14Speaker 6: so you know, I didn't have to go out and
- 45:16Speaker 6: pay all these extra fees to go to all these
- 45:19Speaker 6: testing companies and all these things. So it is really
- 45:21Speaker 6: making in some ways education more accessible for some people.
- 45:26Speaker 6: But we still have that digital divide. Not everyone has
- 45:29Speaker 6: access to equity, the internet, all of those things, right,
- 45:33Speaker 6: so we still have to consider that it depends on
- 45:36Speaker 6: the community, and it depends on the users and how
- 45:38Speaker 6: they're using it.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Do you think it's important, Amanda for parents that are
- 45:44Speaker 1: listening that also need to understand, and you know, they
- 45:48Speaker 1: have to kind of jump into it with them. You know,
- 45:51Speaker 1: cliff notes growing up, and you'd have to look through
- 45:53Speaker 1: those and parents would look my mom would look through
- 45:56Speaker 1: those with me and help me. But with parents understanding
- 46:00Speaker 1: how this can work for their benefit and understanding what
- 46:05Speaker 1: it's all about, is that hard to do it?
- 46:08Speaker 6: It's kind of it's a challenge because sometimes I'll just
- 46:15Speaker 6: be real, when you're looking at videos and you're looking
- 46:17Speaker 6: at content online right now, it is really hard to
- 46:21Speaker 6: tell a deep fake image from a real image right now.
- 46:24Speaker 6: I mean I even a still image. You know, at
- 46:27Speaker 6: the very beginning of all this, people had like six
- 46:29Speaker 6: fingers when you would generate things. But now it's like
- 46:32Speaker 6: it seems like, wow, that looks really authentic. And so
- 46:37Speaker 6: it comes down to our discernment and our ability as
- 46:41Speaker 6: adults to realize how important critical thinking is and being
- 46:46Speaker 6: able to say, oh, you know what, let me think
- 46:48Speaker 6: about that before I make a decision or jump on
- 46:51Speaker 6: the bandwagon of oh that's that's going on, you know,
- 46:53Speaker 6: like clutching your pearls kind of thing. But really like
- 46:56Speaker 6: for families. It's important because you know, all of us
- 47:01Speaker 6: are going to be kind of forced in some ways
- 47:04Speaker 6: to use AI in some capacity, I think, and that's
- 47:08Speaker 6: just my opinion, but if we're being forced to use it,
- 47:11Speaker 6: then we need to know how to use it, how
- 47:13Speaker 6: to use it responsibly, and how to figure out how
- 47:16Speaker 6: to make it work for us so it doesn't just
- 47:18Speaker 6: consume all of our data, if that makes sense.
- 47:21Speaker 1: It's interesting because when I got into this Amanda nineteen
- 47:25Speaker 1: seventy nine, I took a computer class at the high
- 47:28Speaker 1: school I was going to. We had to write code. Yeah,
- 47:31Speaker 1: and you know, now we can have our AI write
- 47:34Speaker 1: the code for us, but again you still have to
- 47:36Speaker 1: have an idea of how to implement that code. And
- 47:39Speaker 1: still it won't give you everything. And that's and of
- 47:42Speaker 1: course I don't know if you've run into it for
- 47:45Speaker 1: us in radio, you know, we'll maybe ask it to
- 47:48Speaker 1: tell us about something that's going on, and you know,
- 47:51Speaker 1: after maybe wait a minute, something doesn't seem right, we
- 47:54Speaker 1: do a double check, we find out the information was wrong. Yeah,
- 47:57Speaker 1: and I'll tell the AI hate you were wrong. Oh yes,
- 48:01Speaker 1: sorry about that. Yeah, good catch.
- 48:03Speaker 5: It's like, yeah, it's very affirming.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Right, it always wants to like make you feel good
- 48:08Speaker 6: because it's it's wanting you to engage with it, right,
- 48:10Speaker 6: I get it. That's tech, But yeah, we have run
- 48:14Speaker 6: into that in education as well. So that's when the
- 48:17Speaker 6: term AI slop comes into play, because is it giving
- 48:21Speaker 6: you great input because you're prompting it correctly, or is
- 48:26Speaker 6: it giving you output that's just combined with all the
- 48:30Speaker 6: stuff that's on the internet, because that's where it's pulling from.
- 48:33Speaker 6: So it's really important to like anchor in those sources
- 48:36Speaker 6: of information. Like, for example, when I was studying using
- 48:39Speaker 6: nobook LM, I could add some sources to my repository
- 48:43Speaker 6: inside of noebook LM and it would give me a podcast,
- 48:46Speaker 6: it would give me a quiz, it would give me
- 48:48Speaker 6: a couple practice tests so I could study a little
- 48:51Speaker 6: bit more. So yeah, I think even a mind map
- 48:54Speaker 6: that it gives you. Now, it's like so cool all
- 48:56Speaker 6: the different things. And you know, you know how much
- 48:58Speaker 6: I love Minecraft. I talk about co pilot all the time,
- 49:02Speaker 6: and I just learned last week actually, just at a
- 49:05Speaker 6: training with our district on a co pilot lesson planner
- 49:09Speaker 6: for Minecraft that's inside of there now. So it's kind
- 49:12Speaker 6: of cool that educators can go in and look at it,
- 49:14Speaker 6: but you do have to still keep that human in
- 49:17Speaker 6: the loops. So when I talk about ed tech at all,
- 49:19Speaker 6: it's always human first, like people pedagogy for education like
- 49:25Speaker 6: educational practice, and then the product, right, I like, how.
- 49:29Speaker 1: You know you tag a couple of the prompts that
- 49:32Speaker 1: I saw them on Facebook. Play matters and I think
- 49:36Speaker 1: it's important that with all of this stuff, we need
- 49:38Speaker 1: to take a moment that this education can be also
- 49:44Speaker 1: used to have some fun with and to play. Definitely,
- 49:48Speaker 1: it does matter. I have to ask you now, you
- 49:50Speaker 1: were recently actually nominated and you know, given the the
- 49:56Speaker 1: the claim as one of the top educator's influencers in
- 49:59Speaker 1: it to watch in the top thirty. That is very cool,
- 50:03Speaker 1: and like how did that come about?
- 50:06Speaker 5: I don't know, Actually I don't.
- 50:09Speaker 6: It's one of those things that's like, wait, people are
- 50:11Speaker 6: watching what I'm doing kind of thing. I kind of
- 50:14Speaker 6: got a message from a friend here locally in southern
- 50:19Speaker 6: California and she's like congratulations, and I'm like, what did
- 50:23Speaker 6: I do?
- 50:24Speaker 5: Like did I post something?
- 50:25Speaker 6: So I'm going back through my media feeds like looking
- 50:27Speaker 6: saying like what it was it that I did, and
- 50:30Speaker 6: she goes, look and she sends me this link and
- 50:32Speaker 6: I will be completely transparent here. I thought it was
- 50:36Speaker 6: AI I did. I literally I was like, this is fake,
- 50:40Speaker 6: this is not true. And then after I start going
- 50:43Speaker 6: down the list, I'm like, oh my other friend was
- 50:45Speaker 6: on here. Oh another friend was on here. So I
- 50:47Speaker 6: contacted them and said, hey, how did this happen? And
- 50:51Speaker 6: they kind of gave me the rundown of how that happened.
- 50:53Speaker 6: They're just I guess they just kind of observe out
- 50:56Speaker 6: in the social sphere.
- 50:59Speaker 5: I guess all was say the edge you sphere.
- 51:01Speaker 6: I guess we'll call it and just see like who's talking,
- 51:04Speaker 6: who's discussing, who's sharing. And I'm always one to share
- 51:08Speaker 6: with anyone who has questions, anyone who wants to learn
- 51:12Speaker 6: about it.
- 51:13Speaker 5: I don't know everything.
- 51:14Speaker 6: I won't consider myself ever an expert because I'm constantly learning,
- 51:18Speaker 6: but I think it's important that we do this work
- 51:21Speaker 6: together and we constantly like evaluate, look at critique question.
- 51:27Speaker 6: I'm not an AI optimist by any chance, but I'm
- 51:29Speaker 6: also not super against it, So I'm sort of like
- 51:33Speaker 6: in this middle ground, depending upon use cases, trying to
- 51:36Speaker 6: figure it out too.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I think Amanda, a lot of people in your field
- 51:41Speaker 1: and education are the same way, where they might be like,
- 51:45Speaker 1: you know, I'm kind of maybe not on the fence,
- 51:47Speaker 1: but they'll use it, but they want to be sparing
- 51:50Speaker 1: with it. But then as new you know, we see
- 51:53Speaker 1: new generations, new platforms coming out that can do even more.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I do think notebook LM is perfect for the student
- 52:02Speaker 1: in my respects because I found I could put stuff
- 52:05Speaker 1: in and then add stuff, and I tend to respond
- 52:08Speaker 1: pretty good with an audiobook. And if I'm listening to
- 52:11Speaker 1: this data and I'm listening to maybe a podcast that
- 52:15Speaker 1: was generated from some of that information that was prompted,
- 52:18Speaker 1: I tend to just hold on to it just a
- 52:20Speaker 1: bit longer. And that could be a good benefit for studying.
- 52:24Speaker 1: There is a book that's going to be coming out
- 52:25Speaker 1: next month by a guy named Pritten Shah who is
- 52:28Speaker 1: a Harvard scholar. The book is called Ethical ed Tech
- 52:33Speaker 1: How Educators can Lead on AI and Digital Safety in
- 52:35Speaker 1: K through twelve. It'll be out May eighteenth. We're hoping
- 52:39Speaker 1: to get him on and I would love to have
- 52:41Speaker 1: you come on and talk with us, you know, the
- 52:44Speaker 1: three of us about like what education and technology is
- 52:49Speaker 1: doing right now? And I have to ask you, is
- 52:53Speaker 1: are the school districts themselves? Are they behind this? Are
- 52:57Speaker 1: they you know, really for education and you know technology?
- 53:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I think education and technology we kind of don't
- 53:05Speaker 6: have a choice at this point.
- 53:07Speaker 5: Like it's like you're either on or you're off, right.
- 53:09Speaker 6: I think there's different pockets of brilliance and different systems,
- 53:13Speaker 6: and the way that it looks is just dependent upon
- 53:17Speaker 6: the community and what those leaders that are in those
- 53:20Speaker 6: spaces really are putting their intention into. Currently, in our district,
- 53:26Speaker 6: we have policy, not policy, sorry, a plan going on
- 53:30Speaker 6: for AI.
- 53:31Speaker 5: It's not a policy. We're not reader writing policy.
- 53:34Speaker 6: We already have policy, so you don't need to rewrite
- 53:36Speaker 6: an entire policy around AI. But in our district, like
- 53:40Speaker 6: we're right now writing a plan of action so that
- 53:43Speaker 6: we can put some guardrails on AI because, like you said,
- 53:46Speaker 6: there's hallucinations out there. We don't want students getting misinformation
- 53:49Speaker 6: or disinformation that's out there or creating that even more
- 53:53Speaker 6: so because that's just more slop, right, So we want
- 53:57Speaker 6: to make sure that we're being very responsible ethical.
- 54:02Speaker 5: Users of the technology. And some districts, as we know
- 54:08Speaker 5: like have just banned AI. They're like, no AI.
- 54:11Speaker 6: Some districts have like mine, are kind of taking that
- 54:14Speaker 6: cautionary approach. But also, let's jump on this right now
- 54:17Speaker 6: because this is something that we know our students are using.
- 54:20Speaker 6: Let's make sure that we're educating them about it. Let's
- 54:23Speaker 6: make sure we have space for our community to come
- 54:25Speaker 6: in and share their voice about it. And so I
- 54:27Speaker 6: really enjoy the way that our committee has them doing
- 54:31Speaker 6: the work in the last year and a half or so.
- 54:33Speaker 6: But there's more behind the scenes work, of course, in
- 54:36Speaker 6: anything else, but we are having those conversations.
- 54:39Speaker 5: And then there's some districts that are just like.
- 54:41Speaker 6: Yeah, we're going to use AI, We're going to use
- 54:42Speaker 6: open AI, and this is what we're doing. So it's
- 54:45Speaker 6: really dependent upon the community and how people want to
- 54:50Speaker 6: choose to use it, choose not to use it, that
- 54:52Speaker 6: kind of thing. Our system we give the agency to
- 54:57Speaker 6: the educator because we want to make sure our students
- 55:00Speaker 6: do have access to it in a responsible manner, and
- 55:05Speaker 6: also based upon the age ranges and guidelines. For my work,
- 55:08Speaker 6: I work in elementary, so we're really not using it
- 55:12Speaker 6: outside of the educator chatbot experience. And then using it
- 55:17Speaker 6: with like applications like Adobe Creative and things like that
- 55:20Speaker 6: with our students, but those are all safe applications that
- 55:23Speaker 6: have been vetted through our district. So for the older kids,
- 55:26Speaker 6: they might be using things to code robots or vibe
- 55:29Speaker 6: coding you probably heard of before. Lots of different tools
- 55:33Speaker 6: out there that are using it, and we're kind of
- 55:36Speaker 6: in the play space right now, but safe play, I will.
- 55:39Speaker 1: Say, play matters. Well remember that too, Amanda. Great to
- 55:43Speaker 1: talk to you and I know we will talk to
- 55:45Speaker 1: you again soon. And you got busy until you know
- 55:47Speaker 1: the end of the year for the school year. Thanks
- 55:48Speaker 1: for everything you do.
- 55:50Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 55:51Speaker 1: So there was a really great story this past week
- 55:53Speaker 1: about a woman in Ohio, ninety one year old woman.
- 55:57Speaker 1: It apparently missed check in calls to you know for
- 56:00Speaker 1: people who check in on her and so please respond
- 56:04Speaker 1: to check her wellness. They entered the garage and it
- 56:08Speaker 1: was almost like watching an ID channel thing because he
- 56:10Speaker 1: didn't know what was going to happen. And through the
- 56:12Speaker 1: garage they were able to get into the house and
- 56:15Speaker 1: they found her in her bedroom. What was she doing.
- 56:19Speaker 1: She was playing a bubble pop game. Shep bubble Pop
- 56:24Speaker 1: and trying to beat her high score. Those are the
- 56:26Speaker 1: game where you just like, all you do is pop bubbles, right,
- 56:29Speaker 1: isn't that the case? I think so?
- 56:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought she was playing like Call of Duty
- 56:34Speaker 4: or something. No, no, no, no, she played bubble Pop
- 56:37Speaker 4: on that.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Now. The woman that plays Call of Duty is Her
- 56:41Speaker 1: name is Hamako Mori. She's from Japan. She's a YouTuber.
- 56:46Speaker 1: They call her the game of granty. Now. This woman
- 56:48Speaker 1: in Ohio playing bubble Pop is ninety one. Hamako was
- 56:52Speaker 1: born in nineteen thirty, so that tells you just how
- 56:57Speaker 1: young she is. She holds a Guinness World Record for
- 56:59Speaker 1: the oldest utube gamer uh and her games are are
- 57:03Speaker 1: Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto. There right, and I
- 57:09Speaker 1: was thinking about it. Yeah, she streams on YouTube. She
- 57:14Speaker 1: was way for three years because she she was she
- 57:16Speaker 1: had a fall and she was like going through rehab
- 57:18Speaker 1: and all that stuff. But she's telling all her fans
- 57:20Speaker 1: she's going to be back playing the newscape, which I'm thinking,
- 57:24Speaker 1: you know, I don't. It's probably she's probably living even
- 57:28Speaker 1: longer because rock Stars taking so long to put out
- 57:31Speaker 1: the new Grand Theft Auto title, which they say now
- 57:34Speaker 1: is in November for PS five and Xbox we're not
- 57:38Speaker 1: going to see it for PC till twenty twenty seven,
- 57:42Speaker 1: so you want to check out her page. Hamako Moury
- 57:46Speaker 1: is her name. When you go back to Japan next month,
- 57:50Speaker 1: justin you should you see if you could you know,
- 57:52Speaker 1: find her, oh.
- 57:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and just randomly ring her doorbell and be like, hey, uh,
- 57:57Speaker 4: can I watch you play some games? I mean, I
- 57:59Speaker 4: don't know what am I supposed to say to that
- 58:02Speaker 4: that works?
- 58:03Speaker 1: You know, that's gonna cool though. I mean, I've I've watched.
- 58:07Speaker 4: There's a couple of people that I watch, not so
- 58:09Speaker 4: much anymore being that I'm so busy, but I do.
- 58:13Speaker 1: There was a couple of different ones that were like,
- 58:15Speaker 1: you know, Grandma.
- 58:16Speaker 4: There's like a grandpa gamer who plays strictly just like
- 58:20Speaker 4: Battlefield and he is an amazing sniper. And somebody I
- 58:24Speaker 4: remember watching one of his streams. I mean, and the
- 58:26Speaker 4: funny thing is this guy I sort of got it.
- 58:28Speaker 4: He looks like what I'm probably gonna look like if
- 58:30Speaker 4: if I make it to seventy five, right, he looks
- 58:33Speaker 4: like me, Like I think he's gonna I'm gonna look
- 58:36Speaker 4: like him.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Excuse me.
- 58:37Speaker 4: Anyway, I was watching one of his streams and people
- 58:40Speaker 4: were like, hey, why do you only play Battlefield? And
- 58:42Speaker 4: when you do, why are you only a sniper? And
- 58:45Speaker 4: he's like stopped his game and looked at the camera
- 58:47Speaker 4: and was like because I was a sniper in the
- 58:50Speaker 4: Vietnam War.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Wow.
- 58:52Speaker 4: And he was like I've done this. This is the
- 58:55Speaker 4: thing because he you know, a lot of people when
- 58:58Speaker 4: they play games, especially if they're a sniper, we're just
- 59:00Speaker 4: using the crosshairs, right, and they're just aiming right at
- 59:03Speaker 4: where the crosshays are. No, this guy is using in
- 59:06Speaker 4: the air and all that. Yeah, he's using the little
- 59:09Speaker 4: dot you know, the little lines above the crosshairs to
- 59:11Speaker 4: calculate his distance and he can shoot somebody from across
- 59:15Speaker 4: the map and it's just like every single time, and
- 59:17Speaker 4: he'll just look at the camera and be like boom,
- 59:21Speaker 4: Like I mean, the guys, the guy's hilarious.
- 59:25Speaker 1: That is awesome. Uh. I don't know what kind of
- 59:27Speaker 1: it makes you wonder though. Think about it when we're
- 59:30Speaker 1: in our nineties, you know, we make it to our nineties,
- 59:33Speaker 1: what games are we gonna be wanting to play? We're
- 59:35Speaker 1: gonna play Left Tott six. I hope it comes out
- 59:37Speaker 1: by then. But you Sean which game, Probably Diabo two, Diablo.
- 59:45Speaker 4: Two, Project Zomboid. I am been I've been playing. I've
- 59:49Speaker 4: been playing so much of Project Zomboids. For the invit
- 59:53Speaker 4: to the server, what do you you do it?
- 59:56Speaker 1: Okay?
- 59:56Speaker 4: First, first off, I've invited you to almost every single
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: game I've ever played, and us accurate.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: This is accurate.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, you're like, oh, one of these days I'll
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: get on and play.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Yeah, right, yeah, I'll play. All Right, that's it for
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: this week's show.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm trying to weird and I'm justin lemme.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: Once again, find us on the web tech Talk radio
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: dot com. Have yourselves great week. We'll see you next time.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: See you next time.
