- 0:40Speaker 1: Start with a job, you end with a career. The
- 0:43Speaker 1: combine is next in the life cycle of the NFL
- 0:47Speaker 1: off season. Jeff Legwall joining us right now from Parts unknown. Leggy,
- 0:53Speaker 1: as as you walk into the building, tell me the
- 0:57Speaker 1: story of this draft. Every draft there is there is
- 1:01Speaker 1: a story. There is a narrative. Last year it was
- 1:04Speaker 1: about quarterbacks. What is this draft about this year?
- 1:10Speaker 4: Well, then it's because of that draft. This draft is
- 1:13Speaker 4: not quarterbacks. And it's following the record. You know, six
- 1:18Speaker 4: quarterbacks taken in twelve picks. It's unprecedented in draft history
- 1:23Speaker 4: and to it to have this draft follow it. I
- 1:26Speaker 4: mean these quarterbacks that you know, they barely got the
- 1:29Speaker 4: season over, and they were already being slotted into where
- 1:33Speaker 4: they would have been in last year's class, and and
- 1:36Speaker 4: all of those things.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And to me, anytime there's not a slam.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Dunk quarterback at the top of the board, that that
- 1:43Speaker 4: leaves open a whole variety of things that could happen
- 1:47Speaker 4: on the draft weekend. And to me, ultimately that will
- 1:51Speaker 4: be the story of this draft, is how those first
- 1:54Speaker 4: ten picks shake out, because I think it's very difficult
- 1:58Speaker 4: to predict. Even know gms, even in the league are
- 2:02Speaker 4: gonna have a difficult time predicting how that's gonna go.
- 2:06Speaker 5: All right, Jeff, a lot of reports that it looks
- 2:08Speaker 5: like cam Ward will be QB one. Now again, we
- 2:12Speaker 5: got the whole combine to go. But you've talked to me,
- 2:14Speaker 5: we've talked privately. You've said cam Ward's gonna likely athletically
- 2:17Speaker 5: look better at the combine. Then we expect Shadoor too,
- 2:20Speaker 5: because cam Ward's the better athlete. Do you buy There's
- 2:25Speaker 5: all sorts of stories about I don't know, Tennessee wanting
- 2:28Speaker 5: to trade out even though they need a quarterback, and
- 2:29Speaker 5: maybe Cleveland wants to just go to the Kirk Cousins
- 2:31Speaker 5: routes cause the cause of the connection to Stefanski that
- 2:34Speaker 5: Cousins has.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Do you think that both Ward and.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Shadur could they be up for surprise falls or do
- 2:40Speaker 5: you think when this thing all shakes out, we're done
- 2:42Speaker 5: with the combine, teams will talk to themselves into grabbing
- 2:45Speaker 5: those guys one and two on the draft board.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 4: And I think the days of the sort of the
- 2:52Speaker 4: Jim Drunck and Miller only quarterback in the first round
- 2:55Speaker 4: or are long gone to Paul whatever, whatever quarterbacks are
- 3:02Speaker 4: rated highly, are going fast. And I think that's ultimately
- 3:08Speaker 4: Tennessee has all the cards because it's you know, it's
- 3:11Speaker 4: it's what they decide.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Do they want to live with Will Levis and use
- 3:17Speaker 4: that pick to turn it into multiple players, you know,
- 3:21Speaker 4: the best player on the board. You know, people love
- 3:25Speaker 4: cam Ward as a leader, They love his toughness, they
- 3:29Speaker 4: love his accuracy. They you know, he's he's a big quarterback.
- 3:33Speaker 4: He's got a lot in his favor that NFL people like, uh,
- 3:38Speaker 4: you know, and Schadur is going to fight the holding
- 3:43Speaker 4: the ball issue. That's gonna be what he's going to
- 3:45Speaker 4: have to address. And you know, sort of this buzz
- 3:49Speaker 4: you're hearing now, are those misgivings people are having. You know,
- 3:53Speaker 4: It's like you know, when I was with Date the
- 3:56Speaker 4: other day, it's is it a decision or a habit?
- 3:59Speaker 4: That's That's what you're gonna have to to decide on Shador.
- 4:03Speaker 4: And that's why cam Ward sort of has the QB
- 4:06Speaker 4: one buzz right now, because he's overall a cleaner prospect
- 4:11Speaker 4: in terms of developmentally. And again, this is what the
- 4:14Speaker 4: draft is. The draft is criticism. It's it's people looking
- 4:18Speaker 4: at your weaknesses because they're so fearful of not getting
- 4:23Speaker 4: it right. Uh, you know, they turn over all the
- 4:27Speaker 4: stones and and this is how it'll sound for a
- 4:29Speaker 4: little while. But whoever takes Shadur in the draft is
- 4:33Speaker 4: gonna like them a lot, and they're gonna, you know,
- 4:36Speaker 4: have a guy they can work with who's a tremendous
- 4:39Speaker 4: and elite processor and has an elite understanding of defenses.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So that's an awfully good place for him to start playing.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I think cam Ward will be QB one for most
- 4:50Speaker 4: teams unless something significant happens between now and April.
- 4:53Speaker 5: All right, So Mike, Here's another question, and Nate, I
- 4:56Speaker 5: don't know if you've wandered this or not too, is
- 4:58Speaker 5: the QB free agent class can affect this too, because
- 5:02Speaker 5: all of a sudden, Sandar san Darnal looks like a
- 5:05Speaker 5: viable prospect where he didn't look like that necessarily a
- 5:07Speaker 5: year ago. You've got the intrigue of what will Zach
- 5:09Speaker 5: Wilson be now that he's been with Sean Payton for
- 5:11Speaker 5: a year and had a pretty nice preseason.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Could this could this draft class.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Be affected by the fact that they are better There
- 5:17Speaker 5: are better free agent veteran options, whereas some of those
- 5:20Speaker 5: options and looks so great a year ago.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Right, I mean, it's it's gonna they're gonna be more
- 5:26Speaker 4: active in free agency because last year they were dealing
- 5:29Speaker 4: with a you know, a first two rounds of the
- 5:33Speaker 4: draft where you had six or seven quarterbacks on people's boards.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Uh, you don't have that this year.
- 5:41Speaker 4: So that that that leaves an awful lot of people
- 5:44Speaker 4: wanting you know, there again, supply never equals demand in
- 5:48Speaker 4: the quarterback world, so more teams need them than than
- 5:53Speaker 4: good ones are available. So yeah, that I think the
- 5:56Speaker 4: free agency will impact who is in the draft mix.
- 6:01Speaker 4: But ultimately, if teams think they're in the position in
- 6:05Speaker 4: the top six, seven, eight, nine picks to get one
- 6:08Speaker 4: of those guys, you know they're gonna they're gonna try
- 6:12Speaker 4: to do that because that's gonna be how they focused
- 6:16Speaker 4: their off season, because it's more of a long term solution.
- 6:19Speaker 4: If you're picking up at the top of the board,
- 6:22Speaker 4: you need long term solutions, and free agency doesn't always
- 6:26Speaker 4: offer you that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: At quarterback, talking to Jeff Legwold here talking NFL Draft,
- 6:30Speaker 1: we're gonna get to what Denver is looking at at
- 6:32Speaker 1: twenty and beyond in this draft, because hey, what a concept.
- 6:35Speaker 1: They actually have picks this year. But Leggie, let's let's
- 6:38Speaker 1: talk about Cleveland at number two. I think the Browns
- 6:40Speaker 1: are one of the most interesting teams of this offseason.
- 6:43Speaker 1: They have so many problems, but they also do have
- 6:47Speaker 1: the number two overall pick, which affords you some possible solutions.
- 6:53Speaker 1: They they like their GM, they like their coach given
- 6:59Speaker 1: and I say that based on the fact that they
- 7:01Speaker 1: haven't fired any of those people yet. You know, he
- 7:05Speaker 1: can't really trust what the Haslums are gonna do going
- 7:07Speaker 1: forward right here, But when you look at Cleveland, what's
- 7:10Speaker 1: the buzz? What are you hearing from people about where
- 7:14Speaker 1: they're at in trying to dig out of the crater
- 7:17Speaker 1: that they have found themselves in.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Well, it all starts and ends with Deshaun Watson. What
- 7:23Speaker 4: do you do with them? And he's coming off yet
- 7:26Speaker 4: another significant injury. His contract is crippling for the franchise
- 7:32Speaker 4: and your best player, Miles Garrett has.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Said he wants out, so that that's not.
- 7:37Speaker 4: You know, a spectacular place to be to get the
- 7:40Speaker 4: off season going. So, you know, I think you know,
- 7:45Speaker 4: most people look at them. When you talk to people
- 7:48Speaker 4: in the league about the Browns, you don't get past
- 7:52Speaker 4: the Watson deal. You know, after thirty seconds people are
- 7:56Speaker 4: already bringing that up. And honestly, the feeling is from
- 8:00Speaker 4: most people I talk to is I'm glad it's not us.
- 8:03Speaker 4: That's that's kind of the approach.
- 8:07Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:08Speaker 4: They they need anybody they would pick at number two.
- 8:11Speaker 4: It's just should it be a quarterback? And do you
- 8:14Speaker 4: feel good enough about the guy to deal with the
- 8:18Speaker 4: lots in situation? Because you can't. Ultimately, you can't deal
- 8:23Speaker 4: with the lots in situation. I don't think unless your
- 8:27Speaker 4: quarterback is on a rookie deal. I think that has
- 8:30Speaker 4: to go together, you know, much like that's how the
- 8:33Speaker 4: Broncos dealt with the dead money situation. They had a
- 8:37Speaker 4: quarterback on a rookie deal, and that's one of the
- 8:41Speaker 4: few ways you can make that work and dig out,
- 8:45Speaker 4: you know, a fifty three million dollar Camp bump over
- 8:48Speaker 4: the last two years. If you're an okay GM, you
- 8:53Speaker 4: ought to be able to figure out, you know, when
- 8:56Speaker 4: and when when's the right time to finish out the
- 9:00Speaker 4: Watson thing, because I don't think anybody believes they simply
- 9:05Speaker 4: want to keep him till he gets healthy and then
- 9:07Speaker 4: see where he leads them. And I don't think people
- 9:10Speaker 4: in the league think they're there at that point.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Could they be a good Kirk Cousins destination.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Certainly, you know, it's just a money thing. You know.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Now your quarterback room is costing, you know, epic amounts
- 9:23Speaker 4: of money. If it's a Kirk Cousins solution, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 4: to me, that might be a Watson release, severe dead
- 9:31Speaker 4: money crushing and you try to fit Cousins in on
- 9:35Speaker 4: some kind of deal that you.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Can pay him the minimum right kind of like what
- 9:40Speaker 1: did with with with Russ last year.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, and you try to convince him of that
- 9:46Speaker 4: and just say that you know and and we'll we'll
- 9:50Speaker 4: bump it later. If you play well, you put in
- 9:53Speaker 4: a lot of incentives that you know, you know, X
- 9:57Speaker 4: number of touchdown passes, it gets you five million dollars,
- 9:59Speaker 4: you know what, whatever it is, but you try to
- 10:01Speaker 4: build it with his participation in that.
- 10:05Speaker 5: You know, our buddy Chris Harris was on Twitter, and
- 10:07Speaker 5: Chris is kind of jumping into the media. He put
- 10:09Speaker 5: out an opinion I thought was interesting last week that
- 10:12Speaker 5: or maybe was earlier this week that it kind of
- 10:14Speaker 5: caught me off guard.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I want to get your read on it.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Chris felt like the Broncos could use an upgraded center
- 10:20Speaker 5: and maybe a guard, which I have to assume he
- 10:23Speaker 5: was talking about powers. Do you think I gotta imagine
- 10:27Speaker 5: would they really be looking at either position?
- 10:30Speaker 3: What'd you think of Wattenburg?
- 10:31Speaker 5: I thought Wattenburg was all right last year, which is
- 10:32Speaker 5: why that opinion surprised me.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Well, they think these are right, and you know, their
- 10:37Speaker 4: metrics were off the charts in the offensive line. They
- 10:41Speaker 4: were on the best best pass blocking teams in the league,
- 10:44Speaker 4: and they didn't produce in the run game. But in
- 10:47Speaker 4: the again, the advanced metrics of run game wins, they
- 10:51Speaker 4: they fared pretty well.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So I don't think they see it that way.
- 10:55Speaker 4: In powers and minors make too much money to simply
- 10:59Speaker 4: just card them and move on.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Good.
- 11:02Speaker 3: You can't be talking about miners, right, kid was not
- 11:05Speaker 3: he was or whatever?
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's he's one of their He's one
- 11:10Speaker 4: of their best players right now in the opinion of
- 11:13Speaker 4: other personnel people around the league. So now, I don't think,
- 11:17Speaker 4: you know, they're going to expend a lot of energy
- 11:19Speaker 4: trying to upgrade at guard maybe depth or something. But
- 11:23Speaker 4: I think they feel like they have much bigger needs
- 11:25Speaker 4: than a new a new starter in the offensive line.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Somewhere at this point.
- 11:32Speaker 1: All right, Leggy is George Peyton and his staff and
- 11:35Speaker 1: Seawan in company walk into the combine tight end running
- 11:39Speaker 1: back right at the top of the shopping list. We
- 11:41Speaker 1: know they're going to be keeping a close eye on
- 11:43Speaker 1: those two positions.
- 11:44Speaker 4: What else inside linebacker maybe a safety, you know, and
- 11:49Speaker 4: then core special teamers you know, straight line speed guys
- 11:53Speaker 4: with physicality.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Uh, they need some of those. And you know, I
- 11:58Speaker 2: think that's the.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Shopping list, and that's that's fairly extensive for a team
- 12:02Speaker 4: that went to the playoffs and maybe a wide receiver.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You know, you just I don't think they're ever going
- 12:07Speaker 4: to feel like, you know, they don't want to have
- 12:10Speaker 4: as good a situation for bo Nicks as possible.
- 12:14Speaker 5: All Right, I gotta ask you, and even if you're not,
- 12:17Speaker 5: maybe just lie. There's a mysterious or to you on
- 12:20Speaker 5: Twitter on Twitch today.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Are we not in the draft cave?
- 12:24Speaker 1: No?
- 12:24Speaker 3: Hold on?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Are we in the cave?
- 12:25Speaker 3: Are you in the cave? Sacred? Come on.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I'm working on a project and I just finished a
- 12:32Speaker 4: couple of interviews for it, so I stepped in another
- 12:35Speaker 4: room to do this.
- 12:36Speaker 5: So, alright, I get better if it was the cave
- 12:40Speaker 5: now like the bat cave. Do you have a little
- 12:42Speaker 5: elevator that takes you up and down to the draft
- 12:45Speaker 5: cod Do you still have a real to reel?
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:52Speaker 2: I still watch film.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I transfer all digital video the film so I can
- 12:58Speaker 4: feel with your clicker?
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah, all right.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I had an excellent clicker thumb. I was really good
- 13:09Speaker 4: on the clicker.
- 13:10Speaker 3: You could be fast with it.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Leggy, give me give me a name, and I
- 13:16Speaker 1: want you to define it this way. A name that
- 13:19Speaker 1: you're eager to watch in Indianapolis. A guy that you
- 13:23Speaker 1: find intriguing that you are looking for more information.
- 13:27Speaker 4: On Judkins from Ohio State, the running back. I'm intrigued
- 13:33Speaker 4: with him. I have him why I want to see
- 13:37Speaker 4: him because I have him rated much higher than a
- 13:39Speaker 4: lot of the personnel guys I talked to.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So I am curious.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I am curious how I came to that conclusion and
- 13:46Speaker 4: if I'm right or not. But I want to see
- 13:49Speaker 4: some of those down on the board running back guys
- 13:52Speaker 4: because I think that could be good value for the Broncos.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Uh in some ways too.
- 13:56Speaker 5: What about the Kansas kid, I mean, obviously, I'm also
- 13:59Speaker 5: I mean he tore up Colorado, So that's where my
- 14:02Speaker 5: interest comes from.
- 14:02Speaker 3: He is he legit, he.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Is he is, and he's multi passed it. He's not
- 14:07Speaker 4: just a runner. But I didn't think he had as
- 14:11Speaker 4: good as Senior Bowl week. And again that's not the
- 14:13Speaker 4: end all be all, I know, but it's it's a
- 14:16Speaker 4: quality look, you know, for a week at a guy
- 14:19Speaker 4: with unfamiliar surroundings and the pressure of an All Star
- 14:23Speaker 4: game and all of those things.
- 14:24Speaker 2: But definitely a.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Really good player and you know, just guys like you
- 14:31Speaker 4: know Dylan Samson from Tennessee. That's another down the board
- 14:34Speaker 4: running back a bit who's got a lot of talent,
- 14:38Speaker 4: you know, catch the ball and run.
- 14:40Speaker 2: So I think running.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Back is a spot where the Broncos could get really
- 14:44Speaker 4: nice value if they don't use the first round pick,
- 14:47Speaker 4: because gent is the only first round back I think
- 14:50Speaker 4: on this board easily.
- 14:52Speaker 5: You know, the last first you know, the last down
- 14:55Speaker 5: the board running back out of Tennessee. You told me
- 14:58Speaker 5: about do you remember who it was?
- 15:00Speaker 3: Who you raved about? Who you had me dialed in
- 15:02Speaker 3: two years ago?
- 15:03Speaker 2: I can't remember now.
- 15:05Speaker 3: It was Christian McCaffrey's class. I'll give you that hit.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Who wasn't I'm trying to think.
- 15:12Speaker 5: To the Saints and now you know, I mean Sean
- 15:15Speaker 5: Payton knows what to do with guys like that.
- 15:17Speaker 4: So and that's the that's the multi faceted player you're
- 15:22Speaker 4: looking for. He's not going to be looking for just
- 15:24Speaker 4: the runner as it were. But and the defensive lineman
- 15:29Speaker 4: and this draft are epic. It's a really good class there.
- 15:32Speaker 4: So I'm I'm intrigued to watch some of them. And uh,
- 15:37Speaker 4: just guys that like Derek Harmon from Oregon played with
- 15:40Speaker 4: Knicks at Oregon. You know, he's probably a middle round
- 15:44Speaker 4: defensive tackle who could walk in and play immediately, or
- 15:48Speaker 4: you know, probably a late or early day too defensive
- 15:52Speaker 4: tackle and he could play immediately for the Broncos.
- 15:55Speaker 5: We did have a textu named Paul who was hyping
- 15:57Speaker 5: this D class couple of weeks ago.
- 15:58Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Good stuff up right there from Jeff Legwald. Hipster running
- 16:02Speaker 1: back names for you, Quinn, Shawn Judkins, Devin Neal, Dylan Samson.
- 16:07Speaker 1: There's more than just Ashton Genty in this class. Jeff Legwald.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Everybody read his stuff ESPN, watch him on ESPN obviously,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and we'll talk to him Monday here on The Correckman
- 16:16Speaker 1: The Lindahl Show. Leggy, good work man.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Enjoy the Broker shrimp Ball you'll have.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate you, man, Sam
