- 0:07now in this series we're covering all 32 teams
- 0:10so everybody gets a chance to be talked about
- 0:12all right now in this series we're covering a
- 0:13few different topics and they include what went
- 0:16wrong what do they need stack or shed their draft
- 0:20picks one move i would do in their cap space
- 0:23right now in this episode we're talking about
- 0:24the buccaneers so load up those cannons let's
- 0:27get this thing going All right, let's get into
- 0:36it. So what went wrong in the Buccaneers season?
- 0:38And I will eventually say it was a regressing
- 0:40offense and defense. With the controversial departure
- 0:43of Liam Cohen, I had more questions than answers
- 0:46on the identity of the offense, how well it would
- 0:48function, and which positions would show the
- 0:50first signs of regression. And as the season
- 0:53progressed, I started to sense there was a disconnect
- 0:55between the coaching staff and the players. Now,
- 0:57I believe this is one of the many factors that
- 0:59led to the coaching shakeup this offseason and
- 1:02the departure of Mike Evans. Looking at the offensive
- 1:05production from 2024 to 2025, it shows a major
- 1:08decline in both the run game and the pass game.
- 1:11So in 2024, the Bucks had the third best offense
- 1:14in the league and they averaged 29 .5 points
- 1:17per game, 399 .6 yards per game, 6 .2 yards per
- 1:22play, and 57 touchdowns. They also averaged 250
- 1:26.4 passing yards per game, 7 passing yards per
- 1:29play, 149 .2 rushing yards per game, and 5 .5
- 1:33rushing yards per play. However, in 2025, the
- 1:36Bucs were 21st in offense and they averaged 22
- 1:38.4 points per game, 320 .4 yards per game, 5
- 1:43.1 yards per play, and 39 touchdowns. They also
- 1:46averaged 205 .9 passing yards per game, 5 .9
- 1:51passing yards per play, 114 .5 rushing yards
- 1:54per game, and 4 .1 rushing yards per play. In
- 1:57the last few years, the Bucs defense has shown
- 1:59signs of regression that can no longer be ignored.
- 2:02From the pass rush being hot and cold all season
- 2:04long, to the secondary becoming leaky at times,
- 2:07this defense has once again failed to meet expectations.
- 2:11So in 2025, they were 19th in defense and they
- 2:14allowed 24 .2 points per game, 337 .2 yards per
- 2:19game, 5 .7 yards per play, and 46 touchdowns.
- 2:22Now they also allowed 238 .2 passing yards per
- 2:26game, 6 .7 passing yards per play, 99 .1 rushing
- 2:30yards per game, and 4. Now, if you compare that
- 2:34to the 2024 season, this is what we have. They
- 2:37were 18th in defense, and they allowed 22 .6
- 2:40points per game, 341 .8 yards per game, 5 .5
- 2:45yards per play, and 40 touchdowns. They also
- 2:47allowed 243 .9 passing yards per game, 6 .1 passing
- 2:52yards per play, 97 .8 rushing yards per game,
- 2:55and 4 .3 rushing yards per play. Although the
- 2:58defensive coaching staff underwent some changes,
- 3:00I don't believe it was enough to resolve their
- 3:03problems. I believe Todd Bowles should have brought
- 3:05in a defensive coordinator to slightly tweak
- 3:07his scheme and challenge his play calling. Now
- 3:10with that being said, what do the Bucks need?
- 3:12And that is more offensive and defensive production.
- 3:15With the hiring of Zach Robinson, I believe he
- 3:17will make the offense more consistent, versatile,
- 3:20and explosive than what it's been in the last
- 3:21few years. Now, increasing the defensive production
- 3:24is a little tricky due in part to the lack of
- 3:26playmakers and schematic changes. Now, I'm not
- 3:29saying this defense is barren of talent, but
- 3:31in order to compete with the NFC powerhouses
- 3:34such as the Bears, the Vikings, the Packers,
- 3:37the 49ers, the Rams, the Seahawks, even the Eagles,
- 3:41you need personnel that can not only make splash
- 3:44play, but can force offenses to be one -dimensional.
- 3:47Now, with that being said, the question we all
- 3:49need to ask ourselves is stack or shed? And I
- 3:52would venture to say stack. And the reason why
- 3:53I say that is because the Bucks are the best
- 3:56or the second best team in their division and
- 3:58a dark horse for the playoffs. There's no need
- 4:00to scrap what you've already built. Instead,
- 4:03you need to tweak what you currently have and
- 4:05position this team for success. Now, I don't
- 4:07think they're a Super Bowl team right now, but
- 4:09I think that can change depending on their draft
- 4:11class and how they address their additional needs.
- 4:14Looking at their draft picks, they have their
- 4:15first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and
- 4:19seventh. Now they have the 15th pick in the first
- 4:21round, which I think is the tail end of the sweet
- 4:23spot for premium prospects. But with Levante
- 4:26David retiring, how high should the Bucks find
- 4:29his replacement? Do you draft C .J. Allen in
- 4:31the first round? Do you draft Jacob Rodriguez
- 4:33in the second round? Or do you go after someone
- 4:36in the later part of the draft? Because if I'm
- 4:38Jason Light, which I will be in just a moment,
- 4:40you have one of three options. You can be aggressive
- 4:43knowing that you don't have to give up a lot
- 4:45to make that move. You can be complacent and
- 4:48just see how the board falls. Or you can be reserved
- 4:50and say, you know what? Let's trade down so that
- 4:53we can be players on that second and third day
- 4:55of the draft. Because if you ask any of the major
- 4:58draft experts. from Dane Brugler to Mel Kiper
- 5:01to Phil Yates to Todd McShay to Daniel Jeremiah,
- 5:04they're all probably going to say the same thing,
- 5:06and that is they have more players with second
- 5:09and third round grades than first round grades.
- 5:12Even if you trade down just two spots, you're
- 5:15still in a good place. Because let's be honest
- 5:17here, outside of Sonny Styles, Arvel Reese, Ruben
- 5:21Bain, and Caleb Downs, who do you believe is
- 5:24a premium player that everybody's going to be
- 5:27clamoring after? Jordan Tyson, Carnell Tate,
- 5:30Akeem Mesidor, Mansour Delane, Colton Hood, Gerard
- 5:35McCoy. Because what we're seeing right now is
- 5:37that multiple teams are preparing for the 27
- 5:39draft class, as many speculate that that class
- 5:42is going to be better than this draft class.
- 5:44Now, the one move that I would do if I was the
- 5:47GM for the Bucks is draft a pass rusher. Now,
- 5:49we all know they're out of the sweepstakes for
- 5:51Reuben Bain and Arvel Reese. But would you be
- 5:53open in taking David Bailey, TJ Parker, Mason
- 5:57Thomas, Akeem Mesidor, or Cassius Howell? Because
- 6:00the Bucks have been lacking a dominant pass rusher
- 6:02since they won the Super Bowl. According to PFF,
- 6:05Yaya Diaby led the edge rusher room with 9 sacks,
- 6:08followed by Mohamed Kamara and Hasan Reddick
- 6:11with 3 sacks. Regardless of how you feel about
- 6:14some of these edge rushers, you have to address
- 6:16pass rusher within the first two rounds. Hasan
- 6:19Reddick has been a bust, and you need somebody
- 6:21to pair with Yaya Diaby. Looking at their cap
- 6:24situation, they have $15 million, which I think
- 6:26is more than enough to sign all of their draft
- 6:28picks. But if I'm the Bucks, I want to move some
- 6:31money around just so I can be players in the
- 6:33second and third wave of free agency. Because
- 6:36there's still a lot of highly productive veteran
- 6:38free agents that are available that you wouldn't
- 6:40have to break the bank for. You have veteran
- 6:42free agents such as Joey Bosa, whose market value
- 6:45is only $13 .7 million. You have people like
- 6:48Najaria Snee that are still available. You have
- 6:50Leonard Floyd that's still available with a market
- 6:52value of only $8 .9 million. David Onyemata is
- 6:55still available and his market value is only
- 6:57$8 .5 million. You have a lot of people that
- 7:00you can bring in that can come in and be the
- 7:02week one starter and can add that necessary juice
- 7:05that you need for the defense or the offense
- 7:07if you want to take that route as well. But I
- 7:09guess we just have to wait and see. I'm going
- 7:11to end this episode here. If you guys like what
