- 20:46Speaker 7: of our favorites there from the Hindi pop space. And
- 20:49Speaker 7: now let's bring in Ed Debray from the UN News.
- 20:52Speaker 21: This is UN News Today with me at Debray. The
- 20:55Speaker 21: headlines essential medical supplies of being stopped from entering god As,
- 21:00Speaker 21: who warns infectious diseases are on the rise. In Ukraine,
- 21:05Speaker 21: deadly attacks are intensifying, forcing thousands to flee their homes
- 21:09Speaker 21: and disrupting vital aid operations, and the UN High Commissioner
- 21:14Speaker 21: for Human Rights calls on countries to end the involuntary
- 21:17Speaker 21: return of Afghan refugees and asylum seekers. In Gaza, civilians
- 21:24Speaker 21: continue to face daily violence, rodent infestations, and the spread
- 21:28Speaker 21: of infectious disease, all being made worse by blockages of
- 21:32Speaker 21: essential medical supplies. UN agencies worn on Friday, vital supplies
- 21:36Speaker 21: and equipment are being prevented from entering the enclave by
- 21:39Speaker 21: Israeli authorities. World Health Organization representative doctor Rene van der
- 21:43Speaker 21: Wert told reporters in Geneva.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Without laboratory equipment and reagents, we cannot diagnose diseases and
- 21:50Speaker 1: detect potential disease outbreaks. We're talking about hunt the virus,
- 21:54Speaker 1: We're talking about Ebola virus.
- 21:56Speaker 3: This is not luxury.
- 21:57Speaker 1: This is equipment that we need to save life, to
- 22:00Speaker 1: detect diseases, to alert the world about potential outbreaks, and
- 22:04Speaker 1: make sure that people don't die. And you can only
- 22:06Speaker 1: imagine with the horrific living conditions, overcrowding rodents, lack of
- 22:11Speaker 1: water in salutation, that this is urgently, urgently.
- 22:14Speaker 21: Needed, the senior WH Show official said, Adding to these shortages,
- 22:18Speaker 21: there have been twenty two attacks on health care facilities
- 22:21Speaker 21: this year alone, while barely half of hospitals are partially
- 22:24Speaker 21: functional and not one is fully operational. In the face
- 22:28Speaker 21: of this, the WH Show has helped local health authorities
- 22:31Speaker 21: organize medical evacuations for thousands of patients to more than
- 22:35Speaker 21: thirty countries. Efforts to increase the number of people receiving
- 22:39Speaker 21: specialized care in Gaza are being led by the UN
- 22:42Speaker 21: Agency for Palestine Refugees UNRA, although Israel's ban on its
- 22:46Speaker 21: activities has badly impacted operations. Director of Health doctor Aikido
- 22:51Speaker 21: Sieta told reporters in Geneva that last year alone, the
- 22:55Speaker 21: agency provided four point five million medical consultations in the enclave.
- 23:00Speaker 21: Four hundred unrest staff have been killed during the Guarza
- 23:03Speaker 21: war so far now turning to Ukraine. Deadly attacks are intensifying,
- 23:08Speaker 21: forcing thousands of civilians to flee their homes and disrupting
- 23:11Speaker 21: humanitarian operations as the war enters its fifth year, says
- 23:15Speaker 21: Refugee agency UNHCR. On Wednesday, a missile strike hit un
- 23:20Speaker 21: Warehouse and Nepro, killing at least two people and injuring others.
- 23:25Speaker 21: The attack destroyed around nine hundred pallets of the emergency
- 23:27Speaker 21: shelter materials and basic aid supplies worth more than one
- 23:31Speaker 21: million dollars that were intended for displaced and war affected
- 23:34Speaker 21: communities near the front line. According to UN Human Rights
- 23:38Speaker 21: Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, at least eight hundred and fifteen
- 23:41Speaker 21: civilians were killed and more than four thousand, one hundred
- 23:44Speaker 21: injured during the first four months of twenty twenty six,
- 23:48Speaker 21: a twenty one percent increase compared to the same period
- 23:51Speaker 21: last year. UNHCR says nearly forty seven evacuees have passed
- 23:56Speaker 21: through its supported transit centres since January, though the actual
- 23:59Speaker 21: number of desire blazed people is believed to be much higher.
- 24:02Speaker 21: Many families are arriving with few belongings, including elderly people
- 24:06Speaker 21: and people with disabilities. The agency also warned that this
- 24:10Speaker 21: could be part of a larger pattern after two clearly
- 24:13Speaker 21: marked UNAID convoys were struck by drones last week while
- 24:16Speaker 21: delivering assistance in frontline regions and finally to Afghanistan, where
- 24:21Speaker 21: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Vulka Turk is warning
- 24:24Speaker 21: countries to halt the involuntary return of Afghan refugees and
- 24:28Speaker 21: asylum seekers, saying many face serious risks when they arrive home.
- 24:32Speaker 21: According to UNHCR, nearly two hundred seventy thousand Afghans have
- 24:36Speaker 21: been deported this year, mainly from Iran and Pakistan, adding
- 24:39Speaker 21: to the more than one point three million Afghans deported
- 24:42Speaker 21: from the two countries in twenty twenty five. The UN
- 24:45Speaker 21: says and many returneys face arbitrary arrests, detention, torture, and
- 24:49Speaker 21: other abuses after returning to Afghanistan. Women and girls, former
- 24:53Speaker 21: government officials, journalists, civil society activists, and members of the
- 24:57Speaker 21: LGBTQI plus community remain particular clearly vulnerable. TUG also expressed
- 25:02Speaker 21: concern over reports that some European countries are resuming or
- 25:06Speaker 21: considering deportations to Afghanistan, despite the country's worsening humanitarian and
- 25:11Speaker 21: human rights situation. These force returns violate the international principle
- 25:15Speaker 21: of non refouement, which prohibits sending people back to places
- 25:19Speaker 21: where they may face persecution or harm. At Debray un News.
- 25:23Speaker 6: Thank you so much.

- 38:27Speaker 4: Ali?
- 38:28Speaker 2: I'm all right, I'm good. Nice to talk to you,
- 38:30Speaker 2: and thank you for having me.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Yeah, Ali, thanks so much for joining us and making
- 38:33Speaker 7: time out of the schedule there to come join us
- 38:35Speaker 7: and hang out with us here.
- 38:37Speaker 6: And how's the US treating you? Ali?
- 38:40Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 38:40Speaker 5: I'm saying.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I'm like this some really nice son outside on the
- 38:44Speaker 2: pool and it's amazing weather. California is always amazing, you know,
- 38:49Speaker 2: feel great to be here again.
- 38:52Speaker 3: You know.
- 38:53Speaker 7: One of my one of my favorite things when referring
- 38:56Speaker 7: about your story is I always started by saying, did
- 38:59Speaker 7: you know he's a painter? And then everybody stops and
- 39:03Speaker 7: they say really, and then I tell them the story.
- 39:06Speaker 7: You know, when people meet you and they ask you what.
- 39:10Speaker 6: Is it that you do?
- 39:12Speaker 7: Does that background story of you being once a painter?
- 39:17Speaker 7: What is it that you say to people that you do?
- 39:19Speaker 7: Because you do so many amazing that you're an actor,
- 39:22Speaker 7: world class at that world class at the singing level.
- 39:24Speaker 7: You come from this artistic background Who are you, Ali?
- 39:31Speaker 2: You know Bulisha the Great sup People. It says bull
- 39:33Speaker 2: Lucky darn Id mc gone, it means Bullah.
- 39:37Speaker 6: I know not who I am.
- 39:40Speaker 2: So I think we're all, you know, different people on
- 39:43Speaker 2: different days and moments. We're all, you know, work in progress,
- 39:47Speaker 2: so am I. But I think I'm somebody who loves
- 39:49Speaker 2: to create. So I'm an artist who just likes to
- 39:52Speaker 2: create stuff and create harmony through my music, through my art,
- 39:55Speaker 2: to my paintings, through my music, videos and movies, anything
- 39:58Speaker 2: to my songs, anything that I do. I just love
- 40:01Speaker 2: to create and connect with people and my own self,
- 40:04Speaker 2: my inner self and my creator. That's I think we're
- 40:07Speaker 2: all here, Yeah, looking for that connection.
- 40:09Speaker 6: You know, Yeah, absolutely absolutely, Alie.
- 40:13Speaker 7: You you've been in the business for quiet amount of
- 40:16Speaker 7: time and you have seen the the genre grow. And
- 40:20Speaker 7: when I when I talk about genre, I'm talking about
- 40:22Speaker 7: the overall South Asian space. You've been so intricate in
- 40:27Speaker 7: its growth, whether it's your own work, whether it's the
- 40:29Speaker 7: work you did through Koch Studios and so many different
- 40:32Speaker 7: spaces like that, and now here you are on tour
- 40:35Speaker 7: in North America. You know, what can you say about
- 40:40Speaker 7: the South Asian music globally and its growth and the
- 40:44Speaker 7: impact of it, and you know, coming from your perspective,
- 40:49Speaker 7: tell us about that. What can you say about it?
- 40:52Speaker 2: I think it's been phenomenal. I mean you you're you're
- 40:55Speaker 2: seeing things that you would not see a few years
- 40:57Speaker 2: ago happening. South Asians are just going up in this
- 41:01Speaker 2: part of the world too. The Pejavi music, especially that
- 41:04Speaker 2: diespora and some other devotional music, all the styles of
- 41:08Speaker 2: music I think that you know, being heard here, and
- 41:12Speaker 2: there's a lot of curiosity in this part of the
- 41:14Speaker 2: world and culture to understand and know that part of
- 41:17Speaker 2: the world and that ethos and that music and those
- 41:19Speaker 2: frequencies and those rhythms and beats and melodies and everything and.
- 41:23Speaker 6: Those people in us.
- 41:24Speaker 2: So that music is bringing that gap in a very
- 41:29Speaker 2: profound way. And music was always meant to do that,
- 41:32Speaker 2: and artists were meant to break that gap between humanity,
- 41:35Speaker 2: and I think that's why we're all here.
- 41:37Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, well put sir talking about the tour, and
- 41:41Speaker 7: let's get into it. The tour is called Sufiana Roshini.
- 41:46Speaker 7: It seems very personal and I feel like it's a
- 41:49Speaker 7: tour that we all need right now, especially with the
- 41:52Speaker 7: depth of Sufi music and everything that you do in
- 41:56Speaker 7: and around that space. Tell us about the tour and
- 42:00Speaker 7: tell us about the inspiration behind it and how it
- 42:04Speaker 7: is that you were able to put this all together.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Well, yeah, this is my first Sufi tour where I
- 42:12Speaker 2: am performing all my spiritual songs from which I had
- 42:17Speaker 2: poetry from Sufi saints and those poets and that wisdom
- 42:22Speaker 2: that talks about oneness, that talks about, you know, reaching
- 42:27Speaker 2: out your inner most deepest self and healing yourself through music.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And I've been doing this on off through my career
- 42:37Speaker 2: and most some people, yes most actually know me as
- 42:40Speaker 2: a pop star or a movie star. But I think
- 42:42Speaker 2: in my own journey where I have experience in the
- 42:45Speaker 2: surrealm of spiritualism has been so profound that it's overtaken
- 42:50Speaker 2: everything that I do. And I just want to communicate
- 42:53Speaker 2: that message and that same feeling to my audience and
- 42:57Speaker 2: my fans, and I think I can. I'm an artist
- 43:00Speaker 2: who can do a lot more.
- 43:04Speaker 5: Than I am doing.
- 43:05Speaker 2: So that was the idea behind this tour, the Sufi tour,
- 43:08Speaker 2: so to bring that that tonality that ethos into into
- 43:13Speaker 2: my concerts. That's why songs like Allahu and you know
- 43:18Speaker 2: Colams from Sufi Poets talking about that. And I had
- 43:21Speaker 2: a concert in Toronto, the first concert, and I was
- 43:24Speaker 2: a little you know, you know, I was thinking that
- 43:27Speaker 2: how would people respond to this side of my music
- 43:30Speaker 2: and me And it was, I'll tell you the most
- 43:32Speaker 2: phenomenal experience in my life that for two hours, nobody
- 43:35Speaker 2: moved and it was stunned with you know that, and
- 43:39Speaker 2: they said that this is something that we have never
- 43:42Speaker 2: experienced before. And that is what I want to bring
- 43:44Speaker 2: to Los Angeles too, on the thirtieth of May, and
- 43:46Speaker 2: then San Jose on the thirty first, so and in
- 43:50Speaker 2: my further tour. So that's that's what I'm doing.
- 43:53Speaker 6: Well, I'm that's I'm here.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Yeah, there are so many thousands of people there in Toronto,
- 43:58Speaker 7: I don't even know how many, and so it looks
- 44:00Speaker 7: a fabulous show and a great turnout, and I'm pretty
- 44:02Speaker 7: sure that us here in LA we're going to show
- 44:05Speaker 7: up with that same kind of energy as well. So
- 44:07Speaker 7: very exciting. You know, I feel like you just shared
- 44:11Speaker 7: something with us that went beyond just.
- 44:13Speaker 6: The press release.
- 44:15Speaker 7: I feel like you really gave us a connection into
- 44:19Speaker 7: what the show that night is going to be and
- 44:23Speaker 7: you know, tell.
- 44:23Speaker 6: Us about that, give us a peek into the actual.
- 44:26Speaker 7: Stage performance that night and what it is that we'll
- 44:30Speaker 7: all witness the Saturday.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Well, what I do expect from it is that if
- 44:37Speaker 2: we could somehow meet ourselves, that meeting with ourselves, with
- 44:42Speaker 2: the selves is I think the most important meeting, and
- 44:44Speaker 2: a lot of us don't do that. We meet everybody
- 44:47Speaker 2: else and we're looking at the outside world for gratification
- 44:51Speaker 2: or peace or happiness and joy, but actually it's inside
- 44:53Speaker 2: us and we have to take that journey inwards. So
- 44:56Speaker 2: with the music, with that, what I plan to do
- 44:59Speaker 2: is create like an experience where I can just make
- 45:02Speaker 2: people feel what they have not felt in life and
- 45:07Speaker 2: what they've been thirsty for, what they've been wanting for,
- 45:10Speaker 2: and through my music and art and being a wessel Actually,
- 45:14Speaker 2: so how we think is that it will not be me,
- 45:19Speaker 2: it'll be set through me, right right, and so music,
- 45:22Speaker 2: so so just transfer that energy which can bring peace
- 45:27Speaker 2: an ecstasy into people's lives and hearts.
- 45:30Speaker 6: That's lovely, that's lovely.
- 45:32Speaker 7: We're looking forward to this Saturday, Alie. And of course
- 45:36Speaker 7: you're You've always been one of those artists to me
- 45:39Speaker 7: that has been borderless and someone that has succeeded all
- 45:44Speaker 7: over South Asia. And you know, what is it that
- 45:48Speaker 7: you see, Ali, no matter where you go in that
- 45:51Speaker 7: audience that you perform in front of, whether it's one
- 45:54Speaker 7: side of the border or the other, no matter what
- 45:57Speaker 7: it is, what is it that you see there in
- 46:00Speaker 7: your audience's eyes as they as they see you perform
- 46:04Speaker 7: the divine?
- 46:06Speaker 6: Wow? Simply put?
- 46:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all. That's all there is?
- 46:14Speaker 7: Well put indeed else Yeah, absolutely, But that's great, Ali,
- 46:19Speaker 7: really really great stuff, my man.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Thank you listen. Great talking to you. Ali.

- 50:02Speaker 4: rising voices in Indian pop today.

- 50:14Speaker 4: and minimalist melodies that connects strongly with jen Z listeners.

- 50:19Speaker 4: Shaping up to be a huge year for him. Earlier

- 55:15Speaker 7: line this culture, draws, language, country, medium, the whole map.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Ali Zuphfer is one of them.
- 55:23Speaker 7: I've watched his career from the executive side of the
- 55:25Speaker 7: table for a long time, and what struck me sitting
- 55:29Speaker 7: across from the table today wasn't the resume, the music,
- 55:33Speaker 7: the films, the paintings, the composing. It was that none
- 55:37Speaker 7: of it was a strategy. He didn't diversify on purpose.
- 55:41Speaker 7: He just refused at every turn to be told you
- 55:44Speaker 7: can only do one thing that's rareer than talent. Talent
- 55:48Speaker 7: gets you in the room. Refusing the box is what
- 55:51Speaker 7: makes you. Ali Zephyr. We talked about it today and
- 55:55Speaker 7: about the tour that he's performing in Los Angeles on
- 55:58Speaker 7: this Saturday, on the thirtieth, And if you've never seen
