- 0:58Speaker 1: But I mean to very quickly summarize. I think Cam
- 1:03Speaker 1: Jordan's decision of return is very is very smart by
- 1:08Speaker 1: both Cam and the Saints. Cam with the humility to
- 1:13Speaker 1: return to a place that didn't give him the offer
- 1:15Speaker 1: he wants, despite the fact that he has given them
- 1:18Speaker 1: so much over a decade and a half, but acknowledging
- 1:21Speaker 1: this is his opportunity to continue playing in a play
- 1:23Speaker 1: a place that means a lot to him and for
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Saints. They deserve a ton of credit for being
- 1:28Speaker 1: fiscally responsible and sticking to their number, which oddly they
- 1:32Speaker 1: always do in free agency and all of the cap
- 1:36Speaker 1: hell and if fiscal irresponsibility came in the way, they
- 1:39Speaker 1: would restructure contracts. But a lot of that has to
- 1:41Speaker 1: do with the fact that, well, a lot of times
- 1:43Speaker 1: you give bad contracts initially and then need to restructure.
- 1:46Speaker 1: In any event, Cam Jordan is returning. This is official.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Cam meeting with reporters on Tuesday and talked about what
- 1:55Speaker 1: the deciding factor was for him to return to New Orleans.
- 2:00Speaker 2: So, like I said about two weeks ago, he's like, hey, man,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know you're affecting our lives here. I was like,
- 2:04Speaker 2: oh no, I did not know that. All right, could
- 2:06Speaker 2: have worn us moving to Arizona, which you would have
- 2:08Speaker 2: been the same every day of routine, But no, that'd
- 2:10Speaker 2: be that'd be the final part when you look at
- 2:12Speaker 2: these you know, four beautiful kids growing up. Their whole
- 2:15Speaker 2: lives have been here, so they don't know how not
- 2:17Speaker 2: to carry on.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And uh, when you had.
- 2:20Speaker 2: That conversation, I was like, all right, let me just
- 2:22Speaker 2: humble myself here and let's let's get this done. Which
- 2:25Speaker 2: is awesome because I've got, like I said, I got
- 2:27Speaker 2: so much, so much intended for this city with this
- 2:30Speaker 2: this upame year.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I love that he used the word. He said, let
- 2:34Speaker 1: me humble myself, and it was the first thing I thought, literally,
- 2:37Speaker 1: the note that I wrote down was good for Cam
- 2:41Speaker 1: for accepting reality and having humility to return and he
- 2:47Speaker 1: said he's he used the word. Be so easy for
- 2:51Speaker 1: Cam Jordan to say, Man, fifteen years going to the
- 2:53Speaker 1: Hall of Fame and and I'm going to get a
- 2:57Speaker 1: approve it deal. It'd been so easy for him to
- 3:01Speaker 1: walk away to say no thanks, but more to do,
- 3:04Speaker 1: which was great to see. He was also as point
- 3:06Speaker 1: blanket this is going to be his last season in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I don't even want to do this again. This whole offseason.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I just told Kyle, I was like, I don't like
- 3:13Speaker 2: this this. Yeah, so we're gonna take it. We're gonna
- 3:17Speaker 2: take everything. The way we want to year sixteen. I mean,
- 3:20Speaker 2: how many more.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Years do you want me to play?
- 3:21Speaker 3: Right? Like?
- 3:22Speaker 2: What do you want from me? I definitely am gonna
- 3:25Speaker 2: take to this like every game is my last to
- 3:27Speaker 2: ever play. And I'm gonna be, like I said, overly
- 3:29Speaker 2: appreciative of all my teammates. I'm overly blessed and excited
- 3:32Speaker 2: to be back with the team. I can't wait for
- 3:35Speaker 2: a summer camp.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We have seen so many instances in the NFL of
- 3:43Speaker 1: guys late in their career taking an opportunity to to
- 3:51Speaker 1: ring chase, and that has a negative connotation, and I
- 3:55Speaker 1: do not mean it that way. I look, it's basically
- 4:01Speaker 1: what a Dominican sue did the end of his career,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and it worked. Andrew Whitworth. Andrew Whitworth was a All
- 4:12Speaker 1: Decade team member on a bunch of bad teams in Cincinnati,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and he went to the Rams and won a Super Bowl.
- 4:19Speaker 1: JJ Watt tried to do it, left Houston, went to
- 4:22Speaker 1: Arizona to give it a go. Didn't work. That's okay,
- 4:25Speaker 1: I mean it happens. It happens in every sport. Carmelone
- 4:29Speaker 1: did it, Gary Payton, they went to try to build
- 4:33Speaker 1: that super team in LA with the Lakers and lost
- 4:35Speaker 1: in the finals to the Pistons, and O for it
- 4:38Speaker 1: happens in ever so, it would have been totally understandable
- 4:44Speaker 1: if Cam Jordan would have gone to the Eagles or
- 4:48Speaker 1: the Chiefs or the Bills of the forty nine ers.
- 4:50Speaker 1: There a team that is a legitimate the Seahawks, that
- 4:53Speaker 1: you might consider a legitimate contender, and he was asked,
- 4:56Speaker 1: you know, why not go join a contender and to
- 5:00Speaker 1: chase a ring in your final season.
- 5:01Speaker 2: One, because they're all cold ew Man two. I mean,
- 5:05Speaker 2: when you look at our roster, you see the growth,
- 5:07Speaker 2: you see the development. You see Tyler Shuck, you look
- 5:09Speaker 2: at Coo, you see the expulsiveness of a Jordan Tyson.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You see how Davon Valet was playing last year. You
- 5:16Speaker 2: see Jawan Taylor. We bring in some w W WWE kids.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I mean, I just think there's there's so much talent
- 5:23Speaker 2: on the roster itself.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You know, he didn't really answer the question per se,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and I would love to know what opportunities might have
- 5:37Speaker 1: been there for Cam in other places. But one of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the things I remember before the twenty twenty four season,
- 5:46Speaker 1: right when the Super Bowl was in New Orleans, and
- 5:52Speaker 1: you know, Cam was asked a similar question and his response,
- 5:57Speaker 1: in paraphrasing, was something the effect of, why on not
- 6:00Speaker 1: USA play Super Bowl in our in our in our building?
- 6:05Speaker 1: And I don't think there was a soul that believed
- 6:07Speaker 1: that was a realistic possibility with with Derek carrs the
- 6:12Speaker 1: quarterback and Dennis Allen as the coach and all this stuff.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And as part of me that respects so much an
- 6:24Speaker 1: athlete's mentality that believes they're gonna win every time they play,
- 6:28Speaker 1: because I think I think you kind of have to
- 6:30Speaker 1: have that to be great. You're not gonna win every
- 6:32Speaker 1: time he plays, we know, but you gotta have that
- 6:34Speaker 1: belief that you're gonna That's how you end up as
- 6:38Speaker 1: the basketball player that wants the ball in his hands
- 6:41Speaker 1: for the final shot every single time, knowing you're not
- 6:45Speaker 1: gonna make everyone, but you want it in your hand
- 6:47Speaker 1: every time. That's how you're the You're you're the slugger
- 6:52Speaker 1: who wants to be at the plate in the bottom
- 6:55Speaker 1: of the ninth with two out, down one with runners
- 6:59Speaker 1: on second and third, and you need a knock to
- 7:01Speaker 1: win this game, and you believe you're gonna get it.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Even though you're gonna fail seventy percent at the time.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So part of me respects the fact that throughout his career,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Cam Jordan has been that guy, the guy who has
- 7:17Speaker 1: consistently said why not us? And he's still saying it there.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But at this point in his life, going into his
- 7:23Speaker 1: age thirty seven season and understanding what the Saints have
- 7:27Speaker 1: been in r right now, they are a building team.
- 7:30Speaker 1: They are not a contending team. He's been on a
- 7:32Speaker 1: contending team. He played with the Hall of Fame quarterback
- 7:34Speaker 1: and he got to an NFC championship game and they
- 7:37Speaker 1: got Nola. No called this is not a contending team today.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Two three years maybe really good young core. If they
- 7:48Speaker 1: keep developing, they could be. This is what a rebuild
- 7:51Speaker 1: looks like. But he smacked ab in the middle of it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: You know. It was interesting because on the day that
- 7:58Speaker 1: Cam announced his return, the Saints also had mini camp
- 8:03Speaker 1: practice and Kellen Moore met with reporters before practice, so
- 8:08Speaker 1: before Cam's announcement, and Kellen was asked about the other
- 8:14Speaker 1: defensive ends that they brought in. Remember the Saints added
- 8:19Speaker 1: Tyree Wilson and Anthony Jennings this offseason. When it looked
- 8:24Speaker 1: like Cam wasn't coming back, and Kellen Moore as his
- 8:28Speaker 1: seven Music, had this to say about those two edge
- 8:31Speaker 1: rushers coming in.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I think Jennings Tyree to onboard those guys, guys who've
- 8:35Speaker 3: played a lot of football in this league that are
- 8:36Speaker 3: still relatively young, that will be uh be able to
- 8:39Speaker 3: contribute in a really positive way for us. And so yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 3: I think those guys have really big time experience, and uh,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I think that depth of that group obviously has been increased.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I think that's gonna be our advantage to the versatility
- 8:49Speaker 3: of that group has to be able to rotate those
- 8:51Speaker 3: guys but also play multiple guys and really put a
- 8:54Speaker 3: stress on the offense.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I got to be so interested to see what the
- 8:58Speaker 1: numbers are that they cap in that room. He's a
- 9:02Speaker 1: Chase Young, Carl Granderson, Cam Jordan, Anthony Jennings, tyr U Wilson.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That's five. Are you keeping all five of those guys
- 9:11Speaker 1: on your active roster? I don't know. We'd be fascinating
- 9:14Speaker 1: to see how that room shakes out in training camp.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Moore had a little bit more about Tyree Wilson, who
- 9:22Speaker 1: remember is a former top ten overall pick now trying
- 9:25Speaker 1: to find that resurgence in his second act in his career.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I thought he had an awesome offseason. He's been a
- 9:30Speaker 3: sponge as far as just absorbing all the information. I mean,
- 9:33Speaker 3: he's getting to be coached by Jay Rogers, one of
- 9:35Speaker 3: the best in the league, and learn all the techniques
- 9:37Speaker 3: and all the fundamentals there. And then I think what's
- 9:39Speaker 3: cool is just to see him hopping in on every
- 9:41Speaker 3: possible opportunity on special teams, like, hey, where can I
- 9:44Speaker 3: learn something? Where can I find a potential role as
- 9:46Speaker 3: we go. That's awesome because a lot of times these guys,
- 9:48Speaker 3: you know, they have these opportunities and maybe it goes
- 9:51Speaker 3: a certain way or not a certain way, and hey,
- 9:53Speaker 3: I'm just going to keep finding opportunities, and you know,
- 9:56Speaker 3: I think that special teams embrace is an important part
- 9:58Speaker 3: of this.
- 10:00Speaker 1: That man, former top ten pick, even embracing special teams
- 10:04Speaker 1: on way that he's gonna be able to impact this team.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It was an interesting day there in New Orleans, sort
- 10:08Speaker 1: of marrying the old and the new and one farewell.
- 10:12Speaker 1: As Kellen Moore was asked today about the offense without
- 10:14Speaker 1: Tasman effectively confirmed what we all know.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Is there still a possibility to get something done with
- 10:20Speaker 2: taysa more at this point, as that door closed.
- 10:23Speaker 3: We haven't necessarily had any conversations up to this point,
- 10:27Speaker 3: but you never know.
- 10:32Speaker 1: If you haven't even had a conversation at this point,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you kind of know. And I think we all knew
- 10:39Speaker 1: when Tayson was emotional leaving the field for the final time,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and we all know what it is, so in some
- 10:49Speaker 1: ways the end of an era, in other ways a
- 10:52Speaker 1: renewal or continuation of an era, in many ways brand new.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So interesting time over there, Air on Airline Drive
