Legendary drummer Chris Slade, who’s played with AC/DC, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, and Tom Jones, is retiring at 79 after a six-decade career — health issues from a stroke seven years ago led to his decision. From backing Tom Jones in the ‘60s to smashing hits with Earth Band and rocking stadiums with AC/DC on classics like “Thunderstruck,” Slade’s rhythm defined rock history. He also worked with Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and kept performing with his own band and tribute acts.
