This episode is about an event that not only has become a global phenomenon, but something us Gen Xers, mostly the dudes, hold near and dear to our hearts as it was born during our childhood. Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we discuss WrestleMania. And now without further ado, Let's get ready to podcast introducing first at five foot 11 at 230, 220 pounds from the fighting city of Philadelphia. The best there is the best there was and the best there ever will be the ultimate podcast. Now making his way to the table from the Bronx, New York. He stands at a measly 5'5 and weighs in at a mere 180 pounds. He puts the service in the food service department and pivies no fool he ever meets. He's rowdy. And now for our special guest. is bald and needs no introduction anywhere in the Lanko Township. He stands at five foot eight and weighs 200 pounds. He is the Baron of Bald, the Duke of Dad, the King of English language arts. He is the Immortal Dad! Hooray! All right, everybody, how we doing today? Good, man. Anyway, this is our very first special episode that we're covering. Oh, I gotta turn this It's a razzlin' special. Yes, sir. How you doing, Joe? Welcome to the pod. I'm doing great, man. Let me first start off by saying happy 50th birthday. I know it's a little late, but happy 50th. Yeah, happy birthday, man. Man, I'll tell you, I feel about 70. You don't look a day over 85. Yeah, yep. Also a big shout out to his daughter, Aurora, who made Honor Society on a roll. Not very nice. Yeah, she made the Junior National Honor Society. That's what's up, We had the ceremony the other night. was pretty cool. He was telling me on the phone, he was like, he must get that from his wife. And I know, Joe, we went to high school together. And don't sell yourself short, brother. Well, was telling the shamans the other You can't be a dumb person if you're a teacher. You know what I mean? Yeah, well, you know. And I was telling the shay the other day, it's just great to see her doing things that, you know, ⁓ I had. that I was not capable of, The future's bright. Yeah. And it's all thanks to you and Kim. Academics, baby, academics. ⁓ yeah, yep. So my one regret is that I never applied myself as much as I should have when I was younger. Yeah, I don't think any of us did. No. I was that dude that was always in that satellite, little trailer classroom and stuff like that for like math and English. I was always his borderline, but I always cared about sports, beer, and chicks. That made sense. That was Never really cared about the school part of it. Yeah, they're like, what's two plus two? I'm like, ah, strawberries. Yeah, was just, you know, just drinking too much of that hose water out of the garden hose in the 80s. Damn, man. We all were. That survival stuff right there. I can still taste that rubber and plastic and copper in my mouth, man. And the worst is when you first got to, like, because you didn't let it run, you just went to all that hot water in there. Remember football, Seamus, they used to run that water down that lead pipe with all the... In August of 1990 or whatever, know, they'd out of that lead pipe with all the spider webs and everything in it. After you did all them bear crawls up that hill. Bear crawls in like a nice pint of hot lead water with spider eggs in it. It's great. So... Big wrestling fan, Joe. So when did you start watching wrestling and like how did you like, I know how we all started watching wrestling, like Saturday night main event and then they had it on on Saturday mornings. But like what drew you to it? So WrestleMania four was really got me into wrestling because I really had a crush on Miss Elizabeth. So I started watching it because of that and I was like, well, you know, there's some wrestling going on too. This is pretty cool. Okay. So that's, that's how I, you know, that was the big event in SummerSlam 88 was the first. real event that my mom got for us to watch. Was that Yokozuna, Brad Hart and Hogan? No, 88 was the Mega Powers versus the Mega Bucks. ⁓ okay. Yes, Macho Man and Hulk Hogan. Macho Man had won the tournament in WrestleMania IV. Hulk Hogan came down and helped them out. Remember, Andre was at the ringside. Hogan came down and prevented Andre from getting into the match and Macho Man ended up winning the title. And then they teamed up in SummerSlam 88. Well, the only reason I know that is because I was doing research for the show, but I do remember it now looking at but I don't have that memory that you do. Because I mean, it's like I said, when you and it's a shame your brother, Pat's not here. Yeah, he's at the Phillies game freezing his butt off. Yeah, but listening to you guys talk about wrestling is just an amazing thing because it brings back so many memories I have of it and stuff that I totally forgot. ⁓ If you had to pick, what was your favorite WrestleMania? ⁓ man, three. Three, absolutely, because that Hulk Hogan-Andre the giant match at The Pontiac Silverdome. Pontiac Silverdome, yep. Yeah, there were so many good matches in that, and that Hogan-Andre match might be the greatest match of all time. a quick fact about that? Did you know that the pay-per-view wasn't offered to the people in Michigan so they would sell out? So if you wanted to see WrestleMania III because the venue was so big, how many people were there, Joe? ⁓ man. ⁓ let's see. If I had to guess, I'd say Pontiac Silverdome, probably bigger than the vet. Bet holds $75,000, I'd say $83,000. I think it was like over, it was like $103,000, I think, of Gorilla Monsoon announced. So they didn't offer the pay-per-view in Michigan, so you had to buy tickets. So they were worried about filling the Silver Dome up, so you had to buy tickets. You couldn't buy the pay-per-view in Michigan. ⁓ that's perfect, though, because it's it's right down the street, man. I'd rather go there to see it myself. It worked, man. That place was wall-to-wall people. That's probably my favorite WrestleMania, because it's just... Like, I mean, that was when it really kind of... Yeah, that was like the, you know, pinnacle for me too, because that's actually when Andre the Giant stepped down after Hulk body slammed him. And if I remember correctly, when Hulk slammed him, like, he just, like, ripped up all the muscles on his one side when he was trying to slam him. At the start of the match, Hulk went for the slam and like 30 seconds in and Andre fell on him. And it was almost three count. And then, you know, and then the match ended up going on, but... Hogan almost lost it in the first 10 seconds, 15 seconds of the match. Another reason why three was so popular is because two was so bad. WrestleMania 2 was just That's because they had it three different locations. Some of it was already pre-taped. ⁓ it was brutal. Yeah, three locations. It was like, who came up with that idea? And then it was on a Monday, too. It was the only one that was on a Monday. Like that whole WrestleMania, the Hogan-Bundy match in the cage was great, but other than that, like, there really wasn't a lot of good matches. was like, Special Delivery Jones, ⁓ I think he was in it. Who the hell is that? I'm a special. He was like a jobber from the 80s who like every he was like Cocoa Beware kind of, know, his way into a main event, but never really won any matches. He would just beat up on the Dodo guys on Saturday morning. you know how much speaking of the guys who always lose matches, do you know who has the most losses in WrestleMania history? In WrestleMania history? ⁓ man. ⁓ well, when's the hold on before we get into that, when's the last one you actually watch? Because I haven't watched them since like the attitude era. No, I haven't watched them since like 10. So, yeah, I haven't really watched it lately. I usually just watch it at home. Like, the old stuff with my son. But, yeah, I like the older stuff. The newer stuff just doesn't appeal to me too much. Yeah, once the attitude error was over. I think the most recent one I watched is when Undertaker retired. Yeah, yeah. And he ended up losing that match because he was like 21 and 0 in WrestleMania. He was like one of my favorites back in the day. And it's funny, I remember his first match in the Survivor Series when Brother Love was his manager back in... 91. was before Paul Bearer? Yeah, before Paul Bearer. And so I saw his first match and I saw his last match. That's when you know you're old. ⁓ no doubt. most of the guys we grew up with have either retired and done or moved on to other, like, you know, the Rock. And that guy came, went, and then comes back every once in a while and then goes back to movies and stuff. Did you do like all the, you know, pay-per-views watching WrestleMania? Yeah, we would, ⁓ usually my uncle would get it, me and my brothers would all go over, we'd watch it. Or my aunt and my uncle would tape it and then we'd watch it the next day. But then when you watch Superstars of Wrestling on Saturday morning, they'd tell you all the results. ⁓ absolutely. I guess they had to. And we weren't missing that. then they, me and my brothers never missed a Superstars of Wrestling. So like, we didn't want to spoil the WrestleMania results, but we wanted to watch that too. So was kind of a... Catch-22. was always for me too, like at school to be like, oh my God, because I never really did the pay-per-view thing. It would always be like, you know, a copy of it like a week later on VHS and stuff. But, you know, of course, you know, when you go back to school the next day, everyone's like, all right, who wants it? You're like, spoiler alert, you know what mean? There wasn't even pay-per-view back then. It was closed circuit TV, the first two or three of them. But I remember the first one, we got it. I don't know if we went to some... I forget if it was at the... It was like a community center. I lived in Philadelphia at the time. So was like a community center had it or something like that. And man, I cried my ass off because I think that's when Iron Sheik and Volkov beat Rotundel and Barry Windham for the titles, the tag team title. I didn't even stick around. I was so pissed off, dude. I was like eight years old. Because they were like the bad guys. They were like the big bad guys. I was pitching a fit, man. I was so mad. Yeah, they, that was WrestleMania one, I think. Yeah, it was the first one. It was the very first one. I'll never forget that. Because Mr. T was so, I remember because Mr. T was so huge with the A-Team. There was no title. Like the main event didn't even have like a title defense. was Bob Orton and Rowdy Piper versus Mr. T and Hogan. And yeah, that's right. And then they also had the, ⁓ it was the Intercontinental match in WrestleMania one. think it was. It had to be Tito ⁓ Santana. He fought, I think he fought somebody. I always forget he had a title run. I always thought that they kind of did him dirty later in his career. He was a good wrestler. it seemed like he had that title for like 30 years. Jesus Christ. Remember Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. Yeah. He was cool too. Him and the Macho Man match was ridiculous. That WrestleMania 3, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat Macho Man match might be one of the greatest matches of all time. Do you have the WWE channel? Do you subscribe to that and watch all that old stuff you said? Yeah, that's we do it. love going back and like, because they'll have like rivals and they'll show you all the you know, like the Macho Man and Steamboat, ⁓ Flair and ⁓ Dusty Rhodes. they just show you those. It's amazing. What about Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff, man? That guy was like... Remember when he crossed Hogan and put him in the pile driver? That was like the biggest deal in the world. And that dude was just like jacked. Yeah, he was. He was something. He was something. Do you have a favorite wrestler, Joe? Macho Man. 100%. And me and my brother always talk about it because Monster Man made every match he was in. Like, Hogan, as much as I love him, he wasn't a great wrestler. And the Warrior was the shittiest wrestler ever. And a lot of people love Warrior, but I just think he's so overrated. He had no wrestling ability, no mic presence, nothing. All he did was ran down in the ring, ran around, acted like a goofball, and pinned somebody. Yeah, just like shake the crap out of the ropes. You know, that would get me kind of hyped up. Well, a lot of the wrestlers back then would agree with Joe. They couldn't stand the guy. had no, they couldn't work with him. He was just a mess. He was, and he just, and then at the end of Andre's career, it was so disrespectful, they'd have him beat Andre in like 30 seconds. He'd like, go to these house shows and Warrior would come down, shoulder block him and pin him. I'm like, man, why are you gonna make Andre go out like that? I guess because like everyone, like around that time, think like pretty much the rest of the guys were pretty much done. you know, was the ultimate Warriors thing. Cause like he just had like that big, huge press thing. He'd just press you over your head. Well, I mean, physically, like if you look at him visually, the guy looked amazing. I mean... steroids back then was running out but I mean and like you said just that Dan People would go nuts and he run to the ring and just run around and be a meanie and people were all about it He was supposed to be the next big thing. He was supposed to replace Hogan. Yeah But then when they realized this guy's a maniac and Vince couldn't work with him and well there was a story I'm not sure I'm kind of paraphrasing this but ⁓ Like, after one of the summer slams, or right before it, I can't remember which one it was. Maybe 91, 92. The Warrior demanded a million dollars from ⁓ McMahon, or he wasn't gonna go on and fight. And McMahon gave him the million, he fought, and then he fired him. Yep. Smart, though. mean, you know, especially in demand, you know? That was it for Warrior. I mean, you know, he pressed it too far. And McMahon got rid of him. That's one thing Vince didn't do. didn't... Oh yeah, man, was plenty of people on the roster to like just fill in his spot, man. Did you see that video where he just got arrested? No. He was doing like 155 miles an hour in his Lamborghini, right? And his cops like trying to catch up with him because you ain't catching that. Well, yeah. Well, Vince went to, I guess, it's all over the internet. He went to switch lanes and he clipped somebody. And I guess he realized that he hit him. So he just pulls over. So the cops like walks up to the car and he's like... Bro, did you realize you were doing 155 miles an hour? He was like, I didn't realize I was going that fast. I was trying to get to my granddaughter's birthday party or something. He was like, dude, you were doing 155. And the only reason you stopped is because you hit that guy who was like, did hit him. was like, you know, he was like, thought I hit him. That's why I stopped. just went. He was like, yeah, he had no idea. He's doing 155 miles an hour. I didn't hear about that. The only thing I heard about He looked like, you know, I don't know if he was drunk, but he looked like he had some medication going on. Oh, sure. And he's old, so. Plus those nice cars, man, they run so smooth. 150 feels like, you know, 45. Oh yeah. When you shut the door, you're like, it's almost like the sound of silence. That's all you hear. like being in a jet. Did you see that? Yeah. Yeah. It was crazy, man. was like, man, dude's doing 155. He didn't realize it. Jesus. But yeah, he even talked to the cop though. had that, you know, I'm Vince. Like, I didn't realize that. I'm Vince McMahon. You know what mean? He lives in the wrestling world, man. Not anymore. uh, what's up? Did you watch that documentary on him? No, no, I didn't see that one. They were uh, was on Netflix or one of those Like right in the middle of the first interview somebody comes in and like whispers in his ear and like He gets up and leaves they finished doing the thing but they were just like during that interview somebody came in and said hey somebody just filed a lawsuit against you for sexual harassment and That was, and he was talking about how he was selling to WWE and he was staying on as an advisor. But as soon as all that stuff came out, they fired him. So I don't think any of the McMahons have anything to do with WWE anymore. I think Triple H is the only one still there working for the company. It'll never be as good as was in the cold there, know, like the old. Oh no. I thought the attitude era had a good run though. That was awesome. That stuff was pretty good between like, you know, DX, The Rock, Stone Cold. And then they bought back all the chick wrestlers who were way better looking then than they were in the 80s. Besides the girl, like, yeah. Oh no, no, I'm talking about Trish Stratus and... Oh really? Yeah, some of them. You haven't seen some of them? Or Stacey Dash? I've seen some videos of some Holy moly. But I really stopped watching wrestling like a while ago. Like the only one, and you're right, with Miss Elizabeth, I had a big crush on her and I remember... She was also like another wrestler, Wendy Richter. I saw her in... ⁓ Fort Dix, it was cool, man. He still looked good. And then like, what was it, like that fabulous Mula, remember the one-handed chicks? ⁓ my God, dude, that was... Well, that's when they were doing all that rockin' wrestling too, because Cyndi Lauper was walking around with Wendy Richter That was the first WrestleMania They had all the music guys there Ray Charles and Huey Lewis did a thing And don't forget, WrestleMania 3, Alice Cooper ⁓ came down with Jake the Snake. Yeah! ⁓ Yeah, I forgot all about that. the Snake Roberts with the DDT, man. It's good to see him doing well. That guy was a mess. Have you ever watched that resurrecting the snake? Because Diamond Dallas Page pulls all these guys out of the gutter and fixes them up. And it's good to see him. Because he was a mess in that. Holy moly. It's like all the names you guys are pulling up, man, is to like bring back memories. Because you know, like, you know, Saturday morning you would watch wrestling and stuff. And then, you know, they would do like the interviews, you know, they'd be like, I think the other one was like Piper's Pip, but that was like, I remember, I don't remember like... playing in the morning. Sometimes it'd be like an evening. It was always on the Saturday night main event. The morning shows had the Brother Love show usually on stuff like that. Then they had Beefcake's barber shop. Yeah, Brutus the barber, Beefcake. I remember when he started doing that. I think he was attacked first. He got his haircut ⁓ shaved or something like that and he was the one that... Yeah, he was always in a haircut So, III, was... Adrian Adonis versus Roddy Piper in the haircut match. Both of their special moves with the sleeper. And ⁓ Roddy Piper won the match and earlier in that WrestleMania, Brutus Beefcake was bad. He was on the dream team and they lost to the Rougeo Brothers. And they left Beefcake in the ring. So he literally turned good right there in WrestleMania III. And he came down to the ring with scissors and cut Adrian Adonis' hair ⁓ after Piper put him to sleep. And that's how the whole Brutus the Barber Beefcake thing started, right after WrestleMania III. And then he got into a big, huge, you know, kind of like, he got into it with the Honky Tonk Man and then they would fight. And when Honky Tonk Man was Intercontinental Champion, him and Beefcake would go back and forth. They fought in, they fought in WrestleMania IV, and then they were supposed to fight in the SummerSlam 88. But Brutus Beefcake got in a boating accident. So that's when Warrior came down and beat Honky Tonk Man for the title. because Honky Tonk Man came down and said, I'll fight anybody in the locker room because beefcake wasn't available and you hear the Warriors music and he beat Honky Tonk Man in like 30 seconds. Which was another disrespect for the Honky Tonk Man. I thought he should have up a little more fight. Honky Tonk Man was pretty cool, but also they had like Million Dollar Man, they got Razor Ramon. Yep. Hey, I used to love that dude, man. I am Usi with my Chismo. it was these guys. They're all personality, man. Like Razor Ramon and... Junkyard dog. he was the best. loved him. Georgie Animal Steel was actually one of my favorite. Yeah, I was gonna say Scott J. He meets like all these celebrities because he does a movie podcast So he goes like all the monster cons and all that stuff But Georgie Animal Steel was that one of them and he's got a picture of like George but like no like It looks like what you think the picture would look like it's Georgie Animal Steel like ah like on his head. It's hysterical. He the green tongue. Yeah, it was great. He just eats the turnbuckle. Turnbuckle. he a turnbuckle. He just eats the damn thing like The foam and everything come out, he's like... It's like he didn't even speak, man. then you see his old interviews, because now, like, on the internet, you see all this old stuff he didn't see back in the old days, and me and Gene, when interview him, and he never... They'd be like at the zoo with the animals. It was crazy. Well, that's what they were saying when I was doing research for this pod. They were saying that, you know, WrestleMania 3 was a big deal because Hogan slammed Andre. Yeah. This was before the internet, like Joe said, when you couldn't go back and research that. There was actually video of him doing it, I think in Japan or something, way before WrestleMania, even before WrestleMania 1, when they were both working in Japan, Hogan scooped him, like back in like 80 or 79 or something like that, Geez. Now, with the internet, like you said, like, just look it up and you get 100 videos of it. Back then, it wasn't like that. You had to buy the WWF Magazine. Or the videos at the video store for calcium videos. I used to make my mom, every week I'd rent two or three of them. She'd have to sit there and watch me watch all this stuff all day long. We had one TV. Me and my brothers would watch it. My mom had this look on her face like, oh my God, I gotta watch this again. Because we'd watch it all day. We'd rewind it and watch it again and again. And then we'd try and then we'd go outside and try to mimic the moves. Yeah, I was gonna say that again. Did you ever have any wrestling accidents like where you wanna try to... Do a move on somebody and... We used to invite all the neighborhood kids over and we'd set up a ring in my backyard. We'd do four milk crates and we'd lay a sheet down. And that was the ring and the milk crates were the turnovers. That's awesome. So that is awesome. We'd invite the neighborhood kids over, we'd beat the crap out of them and then they'd never be allowed to come over again and... We'd be like, wait, you had milk crates, man? We didn't have no damn milk crates. Oh, it was great. And me and my brothers knew all the moves, so... We would, you know, we'd hook the neighborhood kids in like the figure four leg lock. And then when they submit, we wouldn't let them go. Survival of the fittest baby. ⁓ man, it was, it was. was trial by combat. It was kind of the opposite way around my house. Me and my brother would be up in our bedroom watching it. And as soon as the TV, like the VCR tape stopped and the screen went blue, we'd both look at each other. Just start going, just start wrestling. We had to try everything we just learned on this video right here and there, Everybody did that. Dude, I have like one buddy of mine, he was like six foot something and he was just like running around just trying to clothesline people all the damn time, And of course, you he was another one with the figure four. And then sometimes he tried to do the scorpion, like the scorpion lock. Oh, that was good. Or, you know, of course, like you try to do the DDT and you know, had to like fake it and stuff like that. But he would just be hyped up, man. My brother's friends used to come over the house and my mom's old house and our living room floor was wood. And I'll never forget Sean, he lives in Kentucky now. He came over and I'm like, yo, Pat, I'm gonna DDT Sean. So Pat's like, all right, all right. So he distracts him, get behind Sean, I put him in the DDT and I really DDT'd him. The house shook, like his head hit the floor. was like boom! And the whole house shook and he was like knocked out. I was like, oh crap, I knocked Sean out. Then he woke up and we were all cool. We did that outside, like was a bunch of us like wrestling outside and all that stuff. And it was like this one of this kid from outside of town came in. And it was their younger kids. And this other kid was from outside of town when he was younger, but he was the one that got DDT'd by the other kid. And his eyes rolled to the back of his head and stuff. And we're just sitting there like, oh my God, this kid's gonna, this kid's dead. It's almost like we're getting ready to all run home and act like we never saw this kid because he was from out of town. But then after a while he woke up and, yeah. That was before they put the warnings on everything. We didn't know any better. They didn't tell us we weren't allowed to do the tea. Yeah, our generation never had to, hey, this is hot coffee, or hey, don't do this at home. And don't the Tide Pods. Yeah, yeah. eat the Tide Pods. You didn't have Tide Pods. You know what it though? When we did it though, we knew that we were hurting people. We just wanted to fight people. Like, you just got you hyped up to fight. Like, there's no way you watch a figure four leg lock and it's like, that's not gonna hurt. Yeah, it's gonna hurt. No, absolutely. Because when you see everyone start writhing in pain, that's when you get all even hyped up even more and stuff, I'd be dead asleep. Like, on my stomach and stuff on my bed and all of a sudden my brother would get up behind me and put me in the camel clutch, man. He straddle me, grab my chin, pull straight back. like, Remember, Iron Sheik beat Bob Backlund with the camel clutch to win the championship. No. Before, before WrestleMania 1. And that's, then Hogan beat the Sheik, but it was... The Iron, that was a big deal, man. The Iron Sheik put him in a camel clutch and they called the match, the manager did. Yup. Geez. That was a brutal move. Do you have a favorite wrestler of all time? If I had to pick one, it would definitely be Yeah, I think we already talked about that. Yeah, Macho Man. Do you have a least favorite? Ultimate Warrior. I can't stand Ultimate Warrior. He was so played out and overrated and he beat all my favorite wrestlers and made them look stupid. I'll never forget in WrestleMania VI when Macho Man fought the Ultimate Warrior in the retirement match. It was six or seven, one of the two. And I was for Macho Man and Macho Man was the bad guy. Me and my brother were both sharing for him. And Macho Man carried that match. Like, Warrior didn't do anything. Macho Man carried the whole match and then Warrior beat him and Macho Man had to retire. And then he ended up coming back. I was so mad. I can't stand the Warrior. He's just, ugh. He's everything that's wrong with wrestling. Do you have a favorite finishing move? My favorite finishing move is ⁓ probably the DDT. The Jake the Snake's DDT was awesome. That little gimmick that he did was awesome, man. was just like even with the snake, mean, like, he'd be knocked down, just like... He'd put the snake away. That's just great, man. That was a big tombstone guy. The Undertaker's tombstone. ⁓ yeah. That was pretty good. Yeah, well, Undertaker was cool looking too. ⁓ yeah, he was... That was a great, great move. It's funny, one of the best finishing moves was from a shitty wrestler. Coco Beware had a move called the Ghostbuster, where he would get you up in a suplex, and then it was like a suplex DDT where he would drop you straight on your head. But the only person he'd be able to do it on were the shitty guys from Superstars of Wrestling. He never did it on an actual wrestler. Like the guys that just have a name. Like Tom Bruno. The jobbers, as they call them. We used to call them Dodo guys, me and my brothers. ⁓ apparently they're called jobbers. And they just come out and get their ass kicked. And then you'd have a couple guys that kind of like Barry Horowitz. He's still alive too. And like ⁓ Iron Mike Sharp. And a couple of them, know, Steve Lombardi. went on to do some little stuff. That guy was on every Saturday morning getting his ass kicked. Steven Bardell. He'd come out and get his ass kicked and then that was that. And you know, it sucks to have to lose like Cocoa Beware. Right? Like it's one thing if the earthquake beats you or the Undertaker. But man, when McMahon says, yeah, you're losing the Cocoa Beware today. That's when you got to reevaluate your life. Do you have a least favorite? Because a mutual friend of ours, Ryan. He absolutely to this day, like I've known the guy for years. I haven't seen him in forever, but he would, we would sit at the bar or wherever we were at and we'd talk wrestling. He'd be like, Hogan's leg drop is the most ridiculous goddamn thing on the planet. he would, oh my God. It was also the same guy who almost got us into a full out brawl at Hooters up in Maple shade because we were watching, I think it was 2002 or 2003. It was a national championship basketball thing. And we're watching that. And in the other room they're watching, I think that was a time when like the WWE and WCW were going back and forth for ratings. And Flair was on TV and somebody, and you know, Ryan's love for Flair. Someone's like, Rick Flair's a bitch, fuck this guy or something like that. And he got up, like we weren't even in the same, like Ryan got up and went back and was just like. What you talking about? He was like times are forever and so is Ric Flair. Woo! And like next thing I know like we're getting thrown out punches are thrown. I'm like what the fuck is going on? Yeah, gotta represent Ric Flair man. Cuz Ric Flair still to this day does like you know the Comic Cons and stuff like that He'll show up like hacksaw Jim Duggan and stuff like that You know even like when I was a kid like one of my other favorite guys was Jimmy the superfly snooker cuz he was just like Be up on the top turnbuckle dude and just like just launch himself and just land right on you, do like the coconut buster and all that stuff. That was great. was, was good. Snooker was good. He, ⁓ it's a shame later in his life. He was really sick before he died. Yeah. Like, but he had like, I think he killed his wife and got away with it. Yeah. He was really messed up in the head. Yeah. All that. Like, like he killed her back in like the early nineties or eighties and he didn't figure it out until like two, three weeks before he croaked. Yeah, he was messed up, man. And that's other thing, me and my brothers, we always wanted to be professional wrestlers when we were younger. And I look at it now and I'm like, these guys all died in their 40s. ⁓ yeah. Like, Macho Man, like, they all died young. Like, and they were the top of the world. Like, me and my brother, if you would have taken us, if you go back to 1980s, ask us what we wanted to do, we would have given anything in the world to be a professional wrestler. And now looking back on it, I'm like, geez, was a blessing in disguise and we never did it because, like, these guys, they don't live long. You know, it's a hard life on the road unless you're Hogan. Right? You're wrestling on every night. You're taking these painkillers and then it messes your head up and you end up like Jimmy Superfly, Snooza. Yeah. Well, not only that, I mean, you're doing stuff. You're on the road. It's like I said, I did a lot of research for this. So then it takes you down this rabbit hole of all this stuff. And, know, you're on the road, like he said, 300 to 325 days a year. You know, you're hurt all the time, so you're taking painkillers and then you have to train on your way to certain places. And those guys in the eighties, they were doing steroids and then, you know, When you hear stories like Ric Flair talks about like that ESPN 30 for 30 with Ric Flair is ridiculous. Like how much beer that guy drank and all that. It's not like that. Like it's your, like your joints and everything are just getting pummeled all the damn time, dude. It's just like, your body's tore the hell up. now, but now they were saying that the company that bought the WWE actually gives people like time, like you can only wrestle a certain amount of times a month. Like whether you're hot or not, like they're not pushing people, they're pushing more like the healthy stuff and you know, take some time off so you're not stressed out. But like he said, the 70s and the 80s man, it was crazy. It was different back then. They didn't take any of that into consideration, not just in wrestling, but in all sports, right? because they They just would throw back to back complete games. Guys would, know, guys in football would have concussions and they'd put them right back in the game and later in life they end up with you know, with the brain injuries. Like they just didn't think of it. It's just, it's amazing to me that it took them so long to realize, you you can't push people like this. I think it just generated so much damn money and you know, the wrestlers that wanted to make it big, they just sacrifice everything. ⁓ well they were saying that's, some of them wrestlers are like, that's the biggest drug ever. When that curtain pulls back and you see 20,000 people on arena like, you know, and... The flashlights are going off and when you walk down the ring kids are like, me your autograph and chicks are flashing and stuff. Some of those guys have no regrets. They're just like, dude, I would do it all over again. Like some of them football players. Even people that don't even like watch wrestling and stuff like that, you even say Hulk Hogan, people know like Andre the Giant, like all these legendary names and stuff are just like, they last forever, you know? ⁓ yeah, the merchandise alone, right? Like I used to have all the posters hanging up in my room. had all the rubber action figures. We used to have them all. And like said, we've had the videos, pay-per-views and... ⁓ the pay-per-views. video games. Yeah, the video games, yep. We were talking earlier about the attitude and it made me think of when PlayStation first came out, they had a WWF attitude game for PlayStation. And you could create your own wrestler and I swear you could make them look exactly like... Like there was like 50 different things you could do with it. And me and my brothers created everyone we knew and put them in the game and we all got our own finishing move and the characters looked just like us. It was so cool. That's awesome. Pat's actually still looking for that game. If he ever finds it, he says he won't buy it. probably find it on eBay or something like that. Yeah, eBay's gotta have it. And I think the new PlayStation coming out, you can play every PlayStation game ever. Like, if you have a PlayStation 1, you can put it in and it'll play it. Oh, man, that's awesome. So yeah, you'll definitely have to find that. Even like the Nintendo I was talking about earlier, the Nintendo one, like the pro wrestling video game, you know, the Amazon guy look like the... creature from the Black Lagoon and his one move, like, would chomp on your head. was the Amazon, right? Yeah. He would, chomp on your head. and then he had that other move where he had, a foreign object where he put the guy in headlock and, you he'd just, like, jam him in his face. And then he'd, tuck it back into his, tights. And he's, like, know, putting his arms all like, no, ref, no, like, I didn't do it. Oh, and, like, that game was great because it's pretty much, like, you watch wrestling on TV, then you go out and wrestle, get your ass beat. And then while you're, with the grass stains and everything on you, you're sitting there drinking, like, some iced tea from Wawa. and then you're inside playing Nintendo with your friends and it's a goddamn wrestling game. ⁓ yeah. That pro wrestling game was so far ahead of its time. was like when Mike Tyson's Punch-Out came out. Those two games were like epic. And I loved that pro wrestling game. And like I was saying earlier, I was always fighter Hayabusa because I loved that back brain kick. That was the best move. Remember the other characters in that game? Starman? Starman? ⁓ yeah. Starman from Puma? think like Puma or something like that. Yeah, I had the Hulk Hogan ripoff guy. Yeah, then was he I forget yeah Yeah, think there was ⁓ there was a guy was almost like a Jaguar and stuff too, right? Yeah, yeah, I think there was like five characters Yeah, like mine was always like the Amazon guy loves him I just loved him dude the other characters pretty cool looking and you know star man had like that that that super flip chest kick thing that would just like knock you out like crazy and the flying cross chop was his other ⁓ yeah, the best thing too because you can actually go off the like the ropes and do like do a you know a cross arm and stuff, or a clothesline and just, ah, it was great. And you could throw guys out of the ring. Yeah. And you go in out of the ring, you could get counted out. was so, was for a Nintendo game, I mean, the thing was just awesome. The other one I played that was like so hardcore was like WWF WrestleMania Challenge. Oh yeah, oh everybody in it, right? And then also did have like an average Joe character, like two average Joe characters and had like Andre the Giant when he had like the black single head on and stuff like that. And you could actually have three guys on your team. and then just have like a big challenge. So me and my buddy Kenny would just like all freaking day, dude. So he had Andre the Giant, was like his main closer guy because Andre had that move where he can choke you from behind. And then it was just, it was like, you know, one of those old video game glitches where you let him go and then you grab him again and just like drain the life bar and all that crap. And he had like the other move where he can just like lunge his big fat belly on you and just, you know, and he was able to get up on the top turnbuckle. So like, I always try to find like a guy to defeat him and Unfortunately, it was the ultimate warrior because that move, he had the bench press thing. And the only way I can beat my buddy Kenny with Andre the Giant, because he would clear out the other two guys, would be like I had to throw him out the ring and he'd get a ring out. And one time, because we never knew how to do it, it's almost like trying to land on the aircraft carrier and top gun in the NS and the Nintendo. Yeah, was impossible. So like once you threw out Andre the Giant, like he couldn't get back in. I'm like, no matter what. But one time the dude jumped back in the ring and me and my buddy Kenny. They were like, holy shit! But I yanked him back out and everything. But he was, he always had like those guys where he would just like either beat me, but the only way I stood a chance was unfortunately to have, you know, Ultimate Warrior in my roster and just heave that big heavy bastard out the goddamn ring. That's like, you know, Rob. Oh, yeah, yeah. So me and him used to play the old NHL hockey game and he was so good. only way I could ever beat him is if I was at Detroit Red Wings. So I had to be the Red Wings and you to the Red Wings. Heysermann and who was the Russian? Fedorov. Fedorov. Oh yeah, Fedorov was a... Was that for Genesis? Because we used to do that stuff all the time too, Banders. It didn't matter. As long as it was like flat and you were going up and down the screen. Oh, NHL 94 and 95 was awesome. Yeah, and that for Genesis and stuff, dude. We would just like play forever and win the Stanley Cup. I have it here. Love that. Because that's actually another one where you can actually do the fights. know, can just... I always use the Blackhawks because I loved Tony Imani and Jeremy Rodick. yeah, Montay. It's not so much me as it is a Montay. I used the Canucks. Like Canucks were like my favorite because I Pavel Bure and Yerke Lumet and Kirk McLean is like the goalie and stuff like that. So I was like, that's actually how I started liking hockey more. Or, you know, liking it not as much as football and everything else, but got into it and playing those damn games. Do you know how WrestleMania got its name? No. Really? No. You remember the ring announcer, The Fink, right? Howard Finkel? yeah. said, ⁓ WrestleMania was inspired by Beatlemania. ⁓ Howard Finkel was a huge Beatle fan and suggested it to Vince McMahon because Vince McMahon was gonna call it the Colossal Tussle. ⁓ God. ⁓ yeah, I'm glad they changed that. Man, they dodged a bullet on that Yeah, they did. God, the Col- The Fink, remember The Fink? Yeah, The Fink. Walking around on the t-shirt as a kid with like the Colossal Tussle instead of the WWF. Jesus. Yeah, McMahon, for as much as he succeeded, he had some pretty bad gimmicks too, man. Oh, absolutely. Oh yeah, there was a lot of hurt and miss. Matter of fact, what was some of the entrance songs that would just get you revved up, ready to wrestle? British Bulldogs, I love their entrance theme. That was one of my favorites, absolutely. They were my favorite tag team growing up. Of course, Hulk Hogan's just always like, that just gets you there. Yeah. I am a real, oh yeah, dude, that was just- about you? I was actually gonna say the Hulk Hogan, I am a real American. Because as soon as you hear that music, you're like, oh, here it comes. He's like, I'm a little Hulkamaniax, eat your vitamins. know? I love when they used to show him before he hit the crowd and he'd be like walking, smacking himself. Yeah. You know, like that blonde hair. Yeah. And he's just come out, like he's whipping his hand around. I don't know, Flair's music was a rival second man. Like, you hear that woo! Oh, yeah. Ric Flair was just like such a big showman too, man. He was great. And you know, like I would still say for me, like one of my favorites. is Rowdy Roddy Pipers. Yeah, Yeah, Pipers was really good. Yeah, I liked Slick's music. Turn out the lights, the party's over. I was a big, uh, Bret Hitt, the hitman. That was my favorite wrestler of all time. And like his music wasn't all that memorable. It was called The Heartbreaker, but, and it was pretty good. When that music came on, was like, oh, it's about to go down. That, and my favorite tag team was when you're, what a rush. And you're called the Road Wars, dude. I to nuts, bro. Their Steelcade matches and stuff like that were just like legendary, man. And the scaffold matches. Those dudes, Yeah, they used to scare the shit out of me. Yeah, they look like the dudes just coming out of the game Mad Max movies and stuff. ⁓ man, yeah, the Road Warriors, I remember when they came over, right? And Powers of Pain came over. ⁓ And before them, was Demolition was the big one in WWF. And then all these other guys started coming over. That's when it really grew. Like in the early 90s, when it took off. Well, it's because of you and Raj. Like when I was a kid growing up, didn't know, I didn't know, like it was all territorial. There was like the WCW, there was NWA, ⁓ When I was a kid, the first thing I remember seeing was WrestleMania. was it the WCW or NWA? The was the ⁓ set. And like they were still kind of compete cause they had flair And then like these kids in Philadelphia, they kind of older. The Oltzels, they were huge into wrestling and they would bring over video tape. I'm like, who the hell is Dusty Rhodes and why are these guys not fighting and da da da. But then when I moved to Jersey and met him and Rog and those guys are huge wrestling fans. kind of gave me the, and bros, they gave me the history of everything. like I never knew who the Von Erics were until I met these guys. ⁓ But then I watched the movie. I'm like, that's, ⁓ family's cursed, boy. I'll tell you. That's a But yeah. So I have all my wrestling, the Oltals and Prev and Raj and Bruz. Those guys showed me the way. That's We end up, me and my brother, we always, actually the guys I work with too, we have our own fake wrestling federation where we literally give everyone a name and a finishing move and we play out the matches in our head and we talk about it. That's dope. It's like we got Raj and Bruz were vicious and delicious. Delicious, yeah. And when they split up, me and my brother came up with a tag, we had a Survivor Series match and it was like five on five and... Shames you were on, ⁓ you were on Raj's team. No, you were on Braz's team. I think it was Raj. ⁓ One punch was on someone's team. We had them all in it, right? Not Uno. His famous move was the roundhouse. We had Nick in our fake wrestling room. Iron Mike was our heavyweight champion. ⁓ Jumping ⁓ I was the Rock of Gibraltar. Oh, that's actually, those are good names though, man. The Rock of Gibraltar. Pat was pretty boy Pat. Yeah, don't call him that. No, he doesn't like patty cakes. That's what it was. don't call him Pat the Cakes Brevich. Oh, God. I didn't say that, If you're listening, that wasn't me. Well, that's when you used to call me Mack Knight. used to... Oh my God. What's up? When the Eagles had McNabb, he used to say, hey, what's up, Mack Knight? was like, the fuck up? That used to piss you off. You said you haven't watched a WrestleMania since 10? 10, yeah, it's the last. Was there a reason for that or you just kind of lost? It was... I just kind of lost interest at that point. I didn't like the way it was going, you know, and I'm just... I like the old stuff, so that's, you know... Like me and my son put an old Royal Rumble on sometimes, like on that channel you were talking about, the WWE channel. And I can't remember who won them all. So it's kind of cool. It's like I'm watching it again for the first time. That's pretty wild. And it's got a mix of his guys and my guys. So like the last one I watched, I can't remember which one, but like Braun Strowman was in it. But then all the other guys, like Macho Man was in it when he was older, Snooker was in it, all those guys. And it was kind of sad to see those guys older and like not as good as they used to be. But like my son likes all the newer guys. And of course I like all the older guys. So... It was kind of fun to watch it with him. Does he watch the newer stuff? ⁓ He'll watch it on video, like if we put a video on, but he doesn't watch it live. No, he doesn't watch any of the Rawls or any of that stuff. Did they stop Rawl? Monday night is Rawl and what's the other one, SmackDown? Is it like Thursday or something like that? I don't know. I stopped watching like a long time ago. And now they have like their minor league thing, like the ECW or something like that, or what is it? I forget what it is. They have like a, like the WWE now has like Minor League really yeah, but you guys remember glow. Yeah The farmer daughter lives free in my head man People are listening now. They're like what the hell is glow just Google it I know there was a whole bunch of wrestlers, but the only two I remember was Mount Fiji that big smell and broad yeah, and The farmers honor there's the only two I remember what about big bad mama. Yeah or something like that. She was like, she wore like the red singlet. I don't know. Is any of that stuff on the WWE? Did they have the rights to that too? No, I didn't see it. I figured Vince would have bought all that. They, ⁓ so I actually, it's funny you bring that up because the other day I was watching, I'm like obsessed with like TikTok and Instagram videos now, they're like two minute videos. And they showed... They showed ⁓ the glow intro. And I forgot that they were all singing and dancing and they all had a little rap they did. was pretty funny. I used to watch that too. That was on Sundays. Didn't the wrestlers have something like that too? Cause like, you know, like everyone like in sports started doing like the, the Super Bowl shuffle. then like, think wrestling had something Wrestling actually had a full album out, a full record. Oh my God. Where they sang and stuff. I thought so, yeah. I had it when I was a kid. I don't know if I still have it. Oh, that's probably worth a lot of money now, dude. The other day I seen the Hulk Hogan. Starter kit it was I want it so bad what the two blue weights. Yeah, I had it when I was a kid Yeah, you got the headband. Yep. You got the headband the shirt and the weights the workouts together Wait for like three or two and a half pounds geez Read your Bible and eat your vitamins, man. Yeah. Oh I used to live by that. Oh, yeah, say your prayers each other as soon as like that music came on I was like I mean the video, the music video is like just complete trash. Well he was, I'll tell you what, he was a genius because like Joe said on Saturday morning he only got like Coco Beware or maybe Sergeant Slaughter and they were like hey and it was like what once a month Saturday night main event was on and you begged your parents like ⁓ my god please let me stay and Hogan was always the last one so at like 11 o'clock he would come out and you're just like And that's when they used to go to commercial like during the matches too. you're like, no, no, what are you doing? Saturday night's main event will come on at 1130. And right after that was Saturday Night Dead with Stella. ⁓ yeah. Remember that? I love that show. All the B rated horror movies she'd play. Either that or I switched over to the Headbangers ball. That was on late night too. Yeah, that and I remember like the other one, like ⁓ Gilbert Godfrey and Ron Deshear on USA Up all night. ⁓ yeah. They play all the old like B movies and stuff too. I used to love that. And Joe Bob Briggs. I think he was on TNT or something like that. He was like a country guy, his set was like he's living in a trailer home, but he was like Elvira and stuff like that. and back then, and before the internet, had to stay up and watch those movies, right? couldn't just... You went to the video store, you stayed up and watched them. Same thing with the wrestling matches, dude. If you missed it, that's it, bro. You're like... You went to school the next week, like that Monday, you were like, what did miss? I don't think me and my brothers missed a Superstars of Wrestling ever. I don't think we did either. When we were on vacation, we would make sure it was taped or we'd watch it. It was just that everybody was tapin' stuff on VHS, man. That X-Berley, that 12-hour tape so you can make sure you got everything. My mom used to tape. She used to watch soap operas. So the soap opera, the VCR would come on at noon. So me and my brother's doing the summer, we'd be home. So nobody was allowed to touch the TV from noon to four o'clock. So we'd watch all our stuff in the morning and then we'd terrorize the neighborhood from noon to four o'clock because we'd have to leave the house. ⁓ And then my mom would come home from work and then she'd watch the tapes. So literally it was like from noon to eight o'clock at night, no one was allowed to watch the TV. So we found other stuff. after a while back then. the neighbors' expense. There wasn't any cell phones or, you know, I mean, we have video games, but if you only have one TV in the house, parents like beat it. So, I mean, we actually went out and socialized and played and stuff like that. Or, like maybe that one TV in the basement or something like that. Or you just went to another buddy's house because, you know, you're playing video games there. The one guy that was in the, my buddy Spinella was huge into wrestling and, you know, it would always be like that thing we all hang out and stuff. And then we'd stop at someone's house for lunch and everything. And, you know, my mom would have like, you know, ice tea or something like that or some snacks. And we'd go to another buddy's house and his mom would have like ice tea and lemonade and all that stuff. But when we'd go to my buddy Spinella's house, like it would be like 10 of us. He'd be like, all right, well the hose is out back. And then he'd go in the house and then he'd come out with those like the WrestleMania ice cream bar. remember those. They had the different figures on them. You never knew which one you were going to get. How far back do you go? How far back does the WWE channel go? It goes all the way back to WrestleMania one and it's got everything. It's got like all the stuff. Really? It doesn't go back to the 70s it does. It does. You can get certain matches. Nice. It's awesome. I love that channel. What's your favorite match of all time? Favorite match of all time? ⁓ man. ⁓ I gotta say, I loved... I guess gotta go back to the Hulk Hogan Andre, WrestleMania III. He was so hyped up and Jesse the body Ventura was commentating it with Gorilla Monsoon, which is just, they're so great. That whole WrestleMania was great. Oh, it was, was. Yeah. Hillbilly Jim and the two little guys versus King Kong Bundy and the two little guys, remember that? Yep. I don't remember that. The midgets. I tried to explain that. Poor little people. I don't wanna offend anybody. I tried to explain that match to somebody the other day. And it was very difficult if you've never seen it. It's two hobbits and this big dude. And Bundy slammed the one midget guy. Oh, it was insane. was insane. Well, my favorite match comes out of, I think it was three, two. No, which one was in Toronto? Seven? I think that was six or seven. Oh God, is it Is that where Piper and Brett fought? No, no, that's seven. I think seven is Piper and Brett. Yeah, that's my favorite match of all time. I've wrestled maybe seven. Sky Dome in Toronto. think that's my brother's past favorite match. Yeah. That's a great one. It's kind of like a passing of the torch kind of deal. Yeah, yeah. Because Brett beat him for the Intercontinental title. I just love the opening promo where Roddy's talking about how he trained in the dungeon, but his mom only made like a sandwich with one piece of bologna, but she made you a sandwich. Maybe there was this one piece of bologna, but hey. yeah. Piper was great. Piper was such a great character. I used to love like the Piper's pit. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. He could talk trash. Him and Reflair were doing it way before, The Rock and all those guys. Like those guys could sell. like Piper was one of those guys you loved to hate, man. cause he was. Like you hated the guy but you loved him so much. And he wasn't like cool with the other bad guys either. He hated them too. He just hated everybody. Yep, him and Boyton. Him and Cowboy Bob Boyton. And anybody that he'd bring on a show, they'd jump on him. Yeah, they'd be just like a fight at the end. Yeah, that's when, remember he took the coconut and like whacked over Snuka, Snuka, yeah, whacked him with a coconut. That's also where Hogan announced that he was gonna fight Andre on Piper's Pit. That's awesome. Yeah, that was a big deal, man. You went on Piper's and you weren't boys with a man. You were getting jumped in the end. Wasn't there the other one, like the flower shop or something like that? that Adrian Adonison's? Adonison's flower shop. Remember that Halloween episode where they showed people, they showed the kids... ⁓ trick-or-treating at Roddy's house and he throws a bowling ball in one kid's bag and the kid's like, he walks away like all his candy's there. ⁓ He was, he's just a great man. He was. Him and Demi Ossie got to be my favorite and Ravishing Rick Rood. I was going to say Ravishing Rick Rood too, man. Rick Rood was the best. He'd get that crowd going, man. Remember he'd be like, stop the music. What I'd like to have right now is for all you fat. out of shape Philadelphia losers to keep the noise down while I take my shirt off and show the ladies what a real man looks like. Hit the music. Then they show the guys in the crowd the big fat dudes. All the girls are like staring at them while happy all the guys are booing. It was great. Big fat guys eating soft pretzels with mustard stains on their lip. He actually had a rivalry with Piper too, ravishing recruit. ⁓ yeah, everybody did though. Like I said, Piper did not like anybody. He was not an ally to nobody. Well see that's like towards the end of their whole, like even after they retired and came back, like when they did the NWO, which I thought was great, like how they rebranded Hogan But when Piper showed up there, he was like, nah, ⁓ hate you guys too. ⁓ was just like, I'm everybody, I don't care. He wore the kilt and he had like a leather jacket, you know? And like a hot rod was like, you know. It was great. like, think when it got like that with NW and stuff like that, was like, just lost interest. was like, whatever. It was towards the end of that. Like when they split and then there was a red team and all that shit, I was like, I'm out. But like the attitude, I just got out of the military, Raji and bros were watching at their house and I'd go over there and I kind of started getting into it because some of the promos and stuff, like the Booker T fight with Stone Cold at the grocery store is one of the funniest and greatest things I've ever, you ever see it? No, cause I started watching. Oh my God. Or the relationship that Booker T had with Goldust. Like Booker T would be like at a 7-Eleven and of sudden you're Goldust would just show up and be like, get away from me. I'm not going to be your tag partner. And like, he would just, he was like a little puppy following him around Like some of the stuff they did there. when the attitude hour started, Vince actually came on the air and he was just like, look, we're not going to do that wholesome stuff anymore. where we tell you to say prayers and take your vitamins, because frankly, the good guy doesn't always win in life and we don't want to insult your intelligence anymore. So we're going to give you what we think. And that's when you had Stone Cold, like 360s, and I just kicked your ass and the rock came out and all that. And I thought it was great, but then after that run, it just got... I mean, knew about that stuff because it was that popular, but I just never really consistently watched it. Because like Stone Cold was cool, the rock was cool. But like in that era of wrestlers, like The Undertaker was still like my favorite in that ⁓ absolutely. You know, he was, you know, beforehand. And then when like, you know, became a bad guy and everything, I was like, yeah. Yeah, I didn't like Hulk as a bad guy. It was tough for me to watch that because he was always a good guy to Yeah, he was like Hollywood Hulk Hogan or something. Yeah, he was in a Hollywood Hulk. Yeah, kind of liked it. Well, your boy was a part of that. Savage went over to NWL. Yeah, yep. ⁓ Savage is one of those guys that can pull both off, right? He can be like Piper. They could both be good guys or bad guys and they were equally as good. Like some guys just couldn't pull the bad off, right? It was kind of like when they made an earthquake good. just, I don't know, it just didn't really sit well with me, right? Well, my thing is like there are certain guys that just straddle that line. Like they're never bad, they're never good. They're crowd favorites like the Macho Man or Piper. Bret Hart's like that too. like it's just one of those things where you hate him or like him. He's not a heel and he's not a baby face. ⁓ But I used to love, Flair's interviews, ⁓ and these early days, The Rock, Stone those guys, I ⁓ never really cared about the matches as as I listened to those guys do interviews and ⁓ stuff. for me, think that's where it went too, the interviews and all that stuff was more of story. ⁓ Because even in South Park, they always had these... ⁓ when they did the spoof on it was like, basically it's more of the story of the character and the stuff that happened outside of the ring instead of inside the ring. know? So it's like, ⁓ Yeah, one week you got Stone Cold driving down with the beer truck hosing everybody down in the ring. And then the next week, Kurt Angle shows up with a milk truck and he's frozen. Yeah. some of the stuff that they did with Stone Cold and Vince McNamara, like he got the cement truck and he dumped all that cement in his Corvette. And then when he meet him at the hospital, he... took out his bed pan to hit him in the head with it. Oh yeah, I see that clip. know, like some of that stuff I'd like to, if you, after we get done here, dude, bring it up. It's the Booker T. Stone Cold Fight in the grocery store. Oh, it literally goes for like five minutes. It's ridiculous. It's hysterical. Not just like Roddy and what's his face from the movie. Oh, they lived? Yeah. That is still like, you know, we were just talking about One of the greatest fight scenes of all time. And Spoof by South Park, man. The cripple fight. Frame for frame. Like you dirty mother... Oh, the 80s, man. They had some good movies. Remember that one movie that came out in the 80s? was like Rockin' Wrestling or whatever, where it was like, oh man, I think Piper might have been in that too. It was like they did this gig where it was wrestling and rock and roll together. It was an awful film. Well, speaking of that, I got a little trivia for you. In the Rocky movie, when Hulk Hogan came in, like remember, what was his character's name in that movie? Thunder lips. Yup. lips, yup. Remember he's like... was just humongous too. The Bolton Mellon of Lust. Rocky goes, and Charity really hurts. I love when he's walking to the ring. And Rocky's like, why did he carry him? And Mickey's like, he's walking. Oh, that was great. was good. You know Hogan actually... And nobody else would do this much for Charity. And Rocky's like, Bob Hope would. He's like, yeah. Somebody climbs up at a rig, Paul. He's like... Hey, Rock, you better call Bob Hope. Rocky's like, how much do you think he eats? It makes like 202 pounds. And Bob Hope weighs 202 pounds. Yeah. Oh man, that was awesome. remember like the cartoons and stuff too. Cause like they had like, know, Hulk Hogan, but like the cartoons and I think like there was a Like the All Stars or something like that? Yeah, the wrestling All Stars. Hardcore getting wrestling All Stars. They had everything, man. And then they had, like Sergeant Slaughter was on G.I. Joe I used to have the action figure. I think I still... The figures and stuff too, I got them. He's around here somewhere. Like the big, you know, the big WrestleMania guys and stuff. You know, the big one piece, like rubber figures and stuff. Yeah, had a ton of those. Oh my God, dude. There's a place in Rehoboth I go to, it's a vintage toy store and they always have those figures and I usually get a couple of them from my brother every year for Christmas. You go in there and people are like, and they buy them and it's the original figures. You can see like they're worn in, like people have actually, ⁓ it's great. Ken thinks it's so funny because I know all the names. And the person will be like, I need Roddy Piper and give me, know, Adrian Adonis. And they're like, who? What? Who's the one to me? That one. The one in the purple trunks and give me the one with the kill. ⁓ I always wanted to go down to, Hogan's Beach Shop. That's in, I'm gonna say Fort Lauderdale. Really? Yeah. You ever see that clip of that little kid that walks in there and does him work for work? Yeah, when he's doing like autographs or something. Which I mean, that just shows you how he's just transpired, just over generations, how that guy is still like such an influence Like at one point I said, they said in the eighties, he was the most recognizable face on the planet next to Michael Jackson. Oh yeah, absolutely. Like you could show his picture to like anybody in the world and they would know who he is. Exactly, that's what saying. Like there's certain people in in wrestling that just even if you didn't watch it, you knew who it was. And like Andre Giant, that guy was like freaking ginormous even just like the one time he went out with Arnold Schwarzenegger or something like that to go party. And he was, you know, of course he's eating like 25 chickens and like, know, seven crates of wine and everything. And they were getting ready to pay the bill. And all Schwarzenegger's like, no, I got it. And Andre's like, no, I got that. You know, then he just like picked them up. He picked up Arnold Schwarzenegger, like put them on top of a refrigerator and went and go paid for them. You know what mean? I wouldn't want to pay that bill. I'm like, oh, you got it. You got it. Go ahead. Get it. I think there was like a document or something like that when he'd go out to like, you know, out for dinner. He said he would drink like seven or eight bottles of wine. Yeah. And then, like, when he was out partying with the boys, he would drink like seven or eight bottles of wine and then drink like another case or two of beer. Yeah. ⁓ They said if he like in the ring, he would, like, would be real hard to wrestle him. And they said he hated Jake the Snake Roberts. He hated your boy, He hated your boy. He hated Macho Man. He'd stand up. No oil. No ⁓ oil. ⁓ They said he Jake Roberts, he would stand on his hair on purpose. So when Jake would try to get up, he'd... They said the one match Andre had with Randy, I forget where I see in the interview, they said Andre used to play cards before each game with people and Randy woke up like, what do you wanna do for tonight's man? He'd be like, go away. He's like, man, we gotta come up and say, he's like, go away. He told me, like, if you don't go away, I hurt you and, and he said, they went up in the ring and they show the actual match and like, he's like. But he's really beating the shit out of them. That hand is like free. He said he would just tell him, no oil, because Randy would lube himself up. He loved him in, what was it, Princess Bride, Andre the Giant. Yeah. I love Savage and all the Spider-Man with, what's his face? The first one that came out in 2002. yeah, with the Tobey Maguire. You're going nowhere. I got you for three minutes. I'm like, oh my. God, they the macho man playing buzzsaw. Look at this. And he was ripped. Yeah. He always was ripped out, dude. Even with like later on with NWR or wherever and he was like the bad guy. He was just still like ripped. Well, that's another thing. Some of the stuff that those guys did at their site, for instance, like the macho man, his finish move was the flying elbow. He would climb up on that turnbuckle and that dude was like what, 245 pounds? Yeah, he was And just fly through the air. I'm like, holy moly. you even... I know those guys are trained professionals and they know what spots to hit, but you still got 245 pounds landing on you in some aspect of it. You're just like, And he get up there quickly. For 245, he'd get up that turnbuckle. Oh yeah. know those guys are cat like. And not only that, dude, you're hurling yourself. Not only like, you're hurting a dude, like you're just like, you're trying to avoid him kind of and just make it look good. But then you're like, you better know how to fall, man. Cause if not, dislocating your shoulder or something, Yeah. Those guys make, I mean just. When you get whipped into the ropes and I never realized this, we were actually over in the middle East. And then when we get ready to come back, like they had like a USO like gym and all that stuff, but they had like a wrestling ring, like a boxing ring in there. And like, was just standing in there talking to somebody and I leaned back on the Like those ropes actually like pinch you like, cause when they get dragged ⁓ those guys, ⁓ like it's ⁓ I like, man. And I actually threw myself into it. was like, ⁓ Like, that's it. I guess they just get used to it, but... That's when people say, it's fake. It might... Listen, I'm not saying it's real, but you have to be an athlete and you have to... definitely. ...have to have the tolerance for that. It was like the... Remember like the old like 70s flick where it was like the... I forget what wrestler he was interviewing and the guy was asking him how fake it is and the guy smacked him and the dude just... ⁓ yeah. Who the hell was that? It wasn't Jerry Lawler, was it? Wasn't that David... Was it David Letterman? Or no, who was it? was on one of the night shows. It was somebody famous. I don't think it was Letterman, but it was somebody famous. Yeah, it was almost like a backstage... He ended up knocking the guy out, leaving him on stage. Yeah. Just like, smacked him and he was just like... You know, it wasn't Hogan, was it? I think it was Hogan. I don't think it was Hogan. I think it was. I think it was when he was still Terry, whatever his name was. It was before he was Hawk Hogan. Big John... Like, he almost looked like Big John Studd or something like that. Because then you also had... He like smacked him, but of course, know, with Andy Coffman and stuff like that. know, that Larry... The King. Yeah, Andy Kaufman and the King. Jerry Lawler, right? Yeah. Yeah, so that was, yeah, because the Andy Kaufman thing, they said no one knew if it was States or not, because Andy Kaufman was so good at like just being a showman that you just never knew what was going on. It was Richard Belzer, the guy who played in... Oh my God, it's been on TV for 25 years with Marissa Hardicay. Special units, special victims unit, what is that? Law and order. was the guy in the beginning, Richard Belzer. He gets knocked out by Hawk Hogan. Richard Belzer, he plays the detective. Yeah, he plays the detective. He was guy interviewing and Hogan fucking put him out. He's the homicide detective. He's the dude's wearing like a black singlet and then he just like slaps, he's like, does this look? Fake. Now it's again. It was Richard Belzer. Hold on. Yeah, it was Richard Belzer and Hogan. They're both dead. That's how you know you're getting old. Whenever one you know is a grew up watching. Yeah, here's the clip. was David Schultz slaps reporter in like 1988. See this guy right here. Oh, you're talking about two different things. That's the one. like, I was like, oh, it's fake. He's like, yeah, look, fake to you. And he smacks like, wow, really smacks him and drops the dude. Yeah. Hogan does the same thing with Belzer, though. Yeah, this was great, though, because that was the one I was referring to, like the David Schultz slaps reporter. But matter of fact, the wrestling movies, what's probably your favorite wrestling movie? Favorite wrestling movie? Oh, man. I'll tell you, thought, you mean just with wrestlers in it or movies about wrestling? Like, I really liked They Live from the 80s. But to go to the opposite end of that, I'll tell you what the worst one I ever saw was No Holt's Bard. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, that was... That might be the single worst thing ever put on What was the one that the Hulk did? was like the... Suburban Commando or something like that. yeah, Suburban Commando. Well, he was in Suburban Commando. He was also in, um... Oh, he was in another one, too. He had a bunch of movies in the 80s. I remember we made my mom take us. My poor mom, had to go to this movie. She took me and my two brothers to see No Holds Barred. And she sat through that whole awful film. And me and my brothers loved it when it came out. Now, looking back on it, I'm like, dude, like, who wrote this? then they tried it, and then they spun it so that Zeus, the main character, came into WWF. And then in SummerSlam 89, Hulk Hogan teamed up with Brutus Beefcake and fought Zeus and Macho Man. Yeah, was Zeus. Zeus was a Debo from Friday. Yeah, Debo from Friday. ⁓ that was good. That movie is great. Well, it didn't have any wrestlers in it, but the movie that make it work was really good. The wrestler. Yeah, that was just like phenomenal. They said Vince McMahon. That's definitely a Vince McMahon showed up at the premiere and like after the first 10 minutes got up and left. Wow. Because it was so... Like after those guys are used up, they just throw them to the side. But that was a great movie. is, that's a phenomenal movie, really. And Marissa Tomeza. Well, DJS, my girl, And she's a stripper in it. Oh, I love her. So if you haven't seen that, listeners, check that That's a definite reason. So what is it you do for a living now, Joe? Before we wrap this up, we'll give some people the insight of what you do. I know you're a teacher, but you want to give a shout out to the school, some of your students, your staff that's going to listen to this? Well, I am a middle school teacher at Pensalkin. teach sixth grade language arts. I started as a history teacher, but they moved me to language arts and now they won't move me back to history. So I'm kind of in the LA now, but I also coach baseball there. You know, we got our first win the other day. Congratulations. Yeah, we came back, beat Burlington Township. Now I know I'm getting old because one of the guys I grew up with, his son plays on the other team. So I'm like, ⁓ man. Now I'm starting to coach against friends of mine sons. Yeah, really. But it's great. About 10 more years and then I'll retire and move to New Orleans. Really? Really. That's my plan. You only got 10 years left? Yeah, 10 years. How did she say that yesterday? I was telling Herbie, because he was like, how do know this guy? was like, ⁓ we went to high school together I can't believe you've been teaching that long already. Yeah, this is my 12th Holy moly. What makes you want to go to New Orleans? I just, love the, just, have you ever been there? No, actually that would be a spot I'd like to go to though. It is just the coolest city on the planet. Like the architecture is awesome. The art, the music, the food, everything about it's just so cool. The weather and there's, you know, there's alligator. I want one of those air boats, man. ⁓ yeah. This looks so dope. Is the wife on board with that? ⁓ yeah, she loves it. She loves it. Yeah. I'll tell you what, if I retired in New Orleans, I might only live about six months after retirement, but it's gonna be a great six months. Okay. Because that place will kill you quicker than the sword. no doubt. Well, just don't go swimming in the water and stuff like that. You know what mean? Just stay on land and, you know, have some gumbo, listen to some good music. So when I went last time, me and Kim went for her 40th birthday. I've been to New Orleans twice. I went when I was in my early 20s to go to the Sugar Bowl when Virginia Tech played Florida State. And I was a broke college kid and I never left Bourbon Street. Like, I was literally, had, you know, we... basically just drank the whole time. When I went with my wife for her 40th birthday, we actually experienced the city and actually did some touring and the city's great. was like, wow, there's actually a city around Bourbon Street? Like I had no idea, but it was, ⁓ it was just, it was so fun. And I remember we go down to the Mississippi River and I take a big handful of Mississippi River and I put it on my head. like, I've now been baptized by the Mississippi. And Kim's like, you idiot, you know how dirty that water is? I look around, there's all kinds of ships out there. And I'm like, ⁓ man, maybe I should. wash this off. Definitely not gonna grow no hair, man. Maybe some funcuses and stuff, but that's about it. But yeah, this New Orleans is great. ⁓ Next on my list is I want to check out Nashville. I heard that is where it's at right now. Yeah, a lot of people do. Like, my buddy lives in Clarksville. So, you know, like even a lot of people from the hospital, like the nurses and stuff do the Nashville trip. And they all have like that iconic or standard I think there's like a wall with like these big huge angel wings and all the girls are taking pictures but they're just like, They say that it's like every... You got every kind of music you want down there. Like Like every bar has a different style, country. ⁓ yeah, the main strip or the main drive. That's a nice drive down there though, man. Yeah. know, from like, here all the way down to... Yeah, I've never been. Everybody... See, that's the problem. Like when I retired I was like, man, I should go south and go to Florida or something like that. A couple years before that, everybody's like, oh, what this? I'm going south. So now all these people that were here are down there. So I'm like, man, if I retire, I'm to deal with the same shit. I might as well stay here. Maybe the southerners will come this way. I've been kind of obsessed with Los Angeles lately because I've been watching a lot of Colombo. So now I'm like, my wife's like, she's like, we're not going to LA. There's nothing in LA. I'm like, what do mean? Hollywood, Colombo's out there. We got to go to LA. She's like, Columbus dead, dude. Where was Rifleman taped? I know you're a huge Rifleman fan. You want to move there, too? Gunsmoke and rifleman, yeah. Gunsmoke. That's what it was. Gunsmoke. Got to pull out the Dodge City. Do you watch MeTV on Channel 2 and stuff like that? TV lane? Love it. I love it. I watch Gunsmoke. My new obsession right now is actually In the Heat of the Night with Carole O'Connor. Great show. Best. Might be the best show ever written. Great show. And it is so good. My mom loved it. And then I like, I... You never watch what your parents watch when you're a kid. She'd have no interest. But right before she had passed away, like she started revisiting all that stuff like a year two before. I was sitting at her house one day and she was, and I called an episode and I was just like, man, this is actually pretty good. Why is Archie Bunker is actually... Yeah, in the heat of the night. Yeah. So I started watching it and great, great show. That and was it Sane Elsewhere? Sane Elsewhere is in the hospital. And then Simon and Simon was like, yeah. watched that. It was great too. Yeah, Simon's was a good show. It's Always the older people like, come on, we gotta get back, Matlock's gonna be on it. Matlock, I don't wanna miss murder she wrote. I love Matlock. Andy Griffiths is the man. But it's funny, Carroll O'Connor, a lot of people see him as Archie Bunker. And that's exactly what I thought when I saw him. Wow. In like his political view, he's actually very liberal and he made that show as a pun on prejudice. And then when you watch him in the heat of the night, that's more his true identity. And it's just, ⁓ my God, if you never watched it, you gotta watch it. It's just, it's absolutely one of the greatest shows. It's kind of sad as the show goes on, you can see Carl O'Connor getting older. And he's like less, like he doesn't get around as well. And it's kind of sad to watch. But if you watch like the first couple seasons, it's just, ⁓ he's great. And his son's in it, Hugh O'Connor. When did you start watching stuff like that? ⁓ I've always, everyone's always told me I have an old soul. So like I've always listened to old music. As a matter of fact, last night I listened to the Big Chill soundtrack about three times. That's cool. Did you ever hear that soundtrack? Yeah. ⁓ it's great. We talked about that before and Joe loves that movie too. love that Joe's like, I gotta get going bingos on tonight. I gotta go be a bingo. Dude, bingo's pretty serious too, man. I bingos. Yeah, I'm actually going to bingo again, man. You can win some coin playing bingo. Yeah. One of my favorite things to do is help him like, our friend Meg needed her roof side it on her shed and the siding done. He was like, yeah, I was like, I'll help you out, dude. And I'm pretty much just the muscle, like the gopher for him. I run and get stuff and the other time he does all the work. But we just sit there and talk like old music, movies, all that stuff like that. It's awesome. talked about Kiss for eight hours. Put all the albums on everything. It was, it was so great. I listened to the whole Revenge album for the first time, probably since the nineties. Nice. That was great. ⁓ yeah. If we put on eighties hair metal on Pandora, dude, like every band that comes up, just... I remember like the comic books, the Kiss comic books and stuff like that and action figures even like the movie. We'll have to have you back on when we do a Kiss episode. ⁓ yeah, you know actually that would be a great idea to do a Kiss episode. Because man, I don't know if you're gonna get a word in Edgewise. That's alright man, I'll just be the background, just listen to man. might chime in just like a little bit, that's it. I might even like paint my face that day or ⁓ dude man, you should man. Alright we're wrap this up. Joe, thanks for coming by, buddy. Yeah, man, it's great. I love Thanks for kicking with us. And again, happy 50th birthday. And congratulations to Aurora on her honor roll selection. And good luck to your baseball team this season, man. And thanks a lot, man. It's been great. All right. a good time. And. Shout out to Kim. Thanks for lending them to us for a couple hours on a Saturday, Kim. I know you guys are busy with the kids and all that stuff. she had to take Roy to the soccer game by herself. She took Eli... My son Josh is actually camping right now. So he's in Tabernacle camping with the Boy Scouts. But Kim had to take Eli and Roy to the game by herself. So I know she's... You know, that was very nice of her to let me do it. So now you got something to listen to. Thank you, Ms. Kim. Yeah, thank you, Ms. Kim. All right. We'll catch you guys later. And remember, if you like what you're hearing, all two of you... Make sure you give us a like and a rating on Apple or Spotify. As always, I'm Seamus. And I am Herbie. And that is Joe. And thanks for coming by, Joe. We'll catch you all guys on the next one. Later.
