- 0:08Welcome. Welcome to the show. Gotta love the
- 0:12eagle cawing. Love it. Welcome to the show, Right
- 0:16Now Hot Takes, where we are unfiltered, bold,
- 0:19and right now with our news and what we're talking
- 0:22about. I'm the host, Jim Rand. A little about
- 0:25me. I love this country. I love the American
- 0:29way. The idea that free people working hard in
- 0:33a free enterprise system can build real prosperity,
- 0:37opportunity, and dignity for themselves and their
- 0:40families. That's why we're talking straight today
- 0:43to you 20 -somethings or even the 30 or 40 -somethings
- 0:48out there that are trying to get ahead. And I
- 0:51really believe that much of this podcast will
- 0:55really focus on the 20 -somethings, because from
- 0:57what I see on the news, those are the ones that
- 1:01are rejecting the American way and falling prey
- 1:04to the empty promises of socialism and communism.
- 1:08You hear voices like Zeron Mamdani pushing democratic
- 1:12socialism, heavy rent controls, tax the rich
- 1:15harder, more government programs for everything.
- 1:19It sounds compassionate, but good intentions
- 1:23don't pay the rent or create jobs. Today, we're
- 1:27cutting through the noise, why these ideas are
- 1:30wrong for everyone, rich, poor, and especially
- 1:34those just starting out, and why free enterprise
- 1:38remains the moral and practical path that lifts
- 1:41people up. So, ladies and gentlemen, let's get
- 1:45into it. Look, I get the frustration. Housing
- 1:53is expensive in big cities. Debt feels crushing.
- 1:57It seems like the system is stacked. Mamdani
- 2:00and his allies offer simple fixes. Cap rents,
- 2:04soak the wealthy, let government handle more
- 2:07to make your life easier. It feels like they're
- 2:10on your side. Take a fresh example from just
- 2:13days ago. Ziran Mamdani proudly announced he
- 2:17balanced New York City's $12 billion inherited
- 2:21deficit, except he didn't. He claimed victory
- 2:26through taxing the rich and making government
- 2:29more efficient, saying, we did not balance this
- 2:32budget on the backs of working people and we
- 2:34never will. Mamdani is hoping you won't hear
- 2:39the rest, the truth of the story. Independent
- 2:42journalist Nick Shirley called it straight, and
- 2:45I want to quote him. This is a lie. You balanced
- 2:49the budget by borrowing billions from the New
- 2:52York state government, which pushed back pension
- 2:54payments. So you literally took money from the
- 2:57backs of hardworking people across the state.
- 3:01Here are the specifics. The city got roughly
- 3:04$1 .5 billion from Albany in January and another
- 3:09$4 billion in late May. part of an $8 billion
- 3:13multi -year bailout package. That includes deferring
- 3:18pension contributions, pushing costs onto future
- 3:21taxpayers, and other accounting maneuvers. In
- 3:24other words, it wasn't socialist magic or pure
- 3:27efficiency. It was shifting the burden to taxpayers
- 3:31elsewhere in New York State and delaying obligations.
- 3:35This is classic big government socialism in action.
- 3:38Claim credit for balancing the books while relying
- 3:43on bailouts, debt tricks, and higher costs down
- 3:46the road. It sounds compassionate in the moment,
- 3:50but it erodes fiscal responsibility and leaves
- 3:53everyone worse off long -term. This stands in
- 3:57stark contrast to the approach in Florida under
- 4:00Governor Ron DeSantis. Florida's state budget
- 4:03for fiscal year 2026 to 2027 is about 117 to
- 4:09$118 billion, serving over 23 million people,
- 4:15while New York City alone, roughly 8 .5 million
- 4:18people, is running a 125 plus billion dollar
- 4:24budget. So let's recap. Florida, 23 million people,
- 4:29$118 million. New York, only 8 .5 million people
- 4:34with a larger budget. Florida has no state income
- 4:39tax, has reduced spending for multiple years
- 4:42in a row, maxed out its rainy day fund, paid
- 4:46down debt, and delivered tax relief. The result?
- 4:50Massive population growth as people vote with
- 4:53their feet, moving from high -tax, high -regulation
- 4:57states like New York to Florida. for opportunity,
- 5:01lower costs, and better governance. DeSantis'
- 5:05model proves the conservative principle. Limited
- 5:08government, fiscal discipline, and respect for
- 5:11taxpayers creates real prosperity. Guys, this
- 5:15is what socialists miss. Respect for the taxpayer.
- 5:19They just don't get it. People are fleeing the
- 5:22results of socialist -style spending and bailouts
- 5:25for the results of free enterprise and responsibility.
- 5:28Again, we have to judge ideas by results, not
- 5:32feelings. Socialism, even the democratic version,
- 5:36has a track record, and it's not a good one.
- 5:40Free enterprise isn't perfect, but it's proven.
- 5:43It rewards work, innovation, and voluntary cooperation,
- 5:48meaning people freely trade with each other,
- 5:50your labor for a paycheck, your business for
- 5:53customers, your ideas for investment. Everyone
- 5:57participates because they believe they're better
- 5:59off, not because the government forces them.
- 6:03Government interference usually makes things
- 6:05worse by replacing those free choices with mandates,
- 6:09controls, red tape, and coercion. Take rent control,
- 6:14a flagship idea. Protect tenants from greedy
- 6:18landlords. Sounds moral, right? In practice,
- 6:21it destroys housing supply. When you force rents
- 6:25below what it costs to build and maintain, investors
- 6:28stop building new units and landlords cut back
- 6:31on repairs. Existing apartments get locked up
- 6:34by those lucky enough to have them already. Young
- 6:38people like you, moving to a city for that first
- 6:41real job face brutal shortages and skyrocketing
- 6:45black market prices. We've seen it play out in
- 6:47New York, San Francisco, and other controlled
- 6:50markets. The poor and working class suffer most
- 6:54because new supply dries up and quality drops.
- 6:58The connected and wealthy find loopholes. Free
- 7:01markets aren't heartless. They respond to demand
- 7:04by creating more housing when people can profit.
- 7:07Remove the profit motive through force and you
- 7:10get less of everything. Okay, let's take, take
- 7:14for example if you were a landlord. You bought
- 7:17the property, you fixed it up, and now you're
- 7:20renting it out and making a living, pocketing
- 7:23a few hundred bucks a month off the tenants.
- 7:26Now make it to where you can't make a profit.
- 7:29Zoran says the rent is frozen. so you can't set
- 7:33it where you can make a profit. What are you
- 7:35going to do? Hypothetically, let's say crime
- 7:39gets bad in the neighborhood. Welp, can't install
- 7:42security cameras because the rent is frozen.
- 7:46There's no money to do that because you're not
- 7:48making any profit. Want to add amenities to the
- 7:52building? Nope, not gonna happen. No money for
- 7:55that. Pretty soon, development and building stops
- 7:59altogether. because no one wants to build knowing
- 8:02they won't make any money. If they're not building,
- 8:06there's less jobs for brick masons, less jobs
- 8:09for people who hang sheetrock and carpenters,
- 8:12and the construction industry comes to a halt.
- 8:15See what I mean, everyone? There are real consequences
- 8:18for the interference of government into the housing
- 8:21sector and the private sector. Then there's the
- 8:25tax the rich till they bleed approach to fund
- 8:29free college, healthcare, you name it. It feels
- 8:32like justice. But who creates the jobs, startups,
- 8:36and wage growth you need? High taxes and heavy
- 8:40regulation drive businesses, talent, and capital
- 8:43to friendlier places. Companies leave, hiring
- 8:47slows, innovation stalls. The tax base shrinks,
- 8:52so government delivers less, not more. History
- 8:55shows this repeatedly, from places that went
- 8:58full socialist to soft versions that still stagnate.
- 9:03Here's why free enterprise beats government interference
- 9:06every time. Capitalism rewards work. If you show
- 9:11up, learn a skill, and deliver value, you can
- 9:15advance. It drives innovation because people
- 9:18chase better ideas, products, and services that
- 9:21solve real problems for customers. And it runs
- 9:24on voluntary cooperation. You freely trade with
- 9:29others, your labor for wages, your business for
- 9:32profits, without a bureaucrat forcing the deal.
- 9:36That respects human dignity and choice. Government
- 9:40interference flips the script. It replaces voluntary
- 9:44agreements with coercion, taxes, mandates, controls.
- 9:49It distorts incentives so people work less, invest
- 9:53less, or leave. Conservatives understand this
- 9:57because we trust individuals and families making
- 9:59decisions in their own lives far more than distant
- 10:03officials picking winners and losers. When government
- 10:07meddles deeply in the private sector, we get
- 10:10inefficiency, higher costs and fewer opportunities.
- 10:15Look at the difference between heavily regulated
- 10:17cities that stagnate and freer markets that boom.
- 10:21The evidence is clear. At the heart of this is
- 10:25a choice about human dignity. Free enterprise
- 10:29treats you as a capable image bearer with God
- 10:32given talents to use responsibly. It encourages
- 10:36family, work, charity, and community solutions
- 10:40over top -down mandates. Socialism, no matter
- 10:44the compassionate rhetoric, treats people as
- 10:47dependents of the state. It punishes success,
- 10:51spreads scarcity, and erodes freedom. Rich and
- 10:54poor alike lose when the engine of wealth creation
- 10:57breaks down. Intentions don't change outcomes.
- 11:02Venezuela, historical examples, and even struggling
- 11:05US cities prove it. America's way. Limited government,
- 11:11free markets, rule of law, has done more to lift
- 11:15people out of poverty than any redistribution
- 11:19scheme. That's not hype, it's history. 20 -somethings.
- 11:24Don't fall for the easy promises. Study the results.
- 11:28Bet on yourself and the American system that
- 11:31rewards grit and creativity. Work hard, build
- 11:35skills, support policies that expand freedom
- 11:38and enterprise. That's how you win and how our
- 11:42country stays strong. I love this nation too
- 11:45much to sugarcoat it. What do you think? If you
