- 0:00Speaker 1: Peyton was talking about getting an airbnb for a possible
- 0:03Speaker 1: wedding reception and how difficult that is. Melinda, are you
- 0:06Speaker 1: in the airbnb space?
- 0:08Speaker 2: So I'm not, but my girlfriend was.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And what happened?
- 0:12Speaker 2: So we had she'd gotten an edification that this mom
- 0:15Speaker 2: was wanting to rent it out for a college graduation party.
- 0:18Speaker 2: She talked to me about it. We're sitting here going, Okay,
- 0:20Speaker 2: they're in their early twenties. Okay, shouldn't be too terrible, right, right.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We get to the airbnb after they had checked out.
- 0:27Speaker 2: We went the next day after they had checked out,
- 0:29Speaker 2: because they checked out at like five o'clock at night.
- 0:30Speaker 2: In her and I were like, we're not going over
- 0:32Speaker 2: there tonight. Show up the next morning. We find almost
- 0:34Speaker 2: every window is broken, There is damage to multiple cabinets,
- 0:39Speaker 2: The floor looks like it had been torched in multiple areas.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Woh wow. Like there was scorch marks on her carpet,
- 0:47Speaker 2: there was scorch marks on the hardwood. And we're sitting
- 0:49Speaker 2: here going what the heck happened? Get into the bathroom,
- 0:53Speaker 2: realize it's just flushed, and they're getting a haznut company
- 0:57Speaker 2: out there to take a look at it. And she
- 0:58Speaker 2: gets told it's a complete demolition.
- 1:02Speaker 3: What did they do?
- 1:03Speaker 4: Like did they have like a fire performer gone wrong?
- 1:06Speaker 3: A party?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Like we never ended up finding out what fully happened
- 1:11Speaker 2: because the mom who rented it claimed this was not
- 1:15Speaker 2: the kids, Like, this wasn't them, someone else had to
- 1:17Speaker 2: have done this.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Well that's I mean, I think if you rented Airbnb,
- 1:22Speaker 1: who if there's damage to it, the person who rented
- 1:24Speaker 1: it as is responsible.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they have a max. So the mom ended
- 1:30Speaker 2: up being Airbnb tooker for ten thousand dollars that didn't
- 1:34Speaker 2: even cover nearly all the damage.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Oh, full demolition, right, you got to start all over.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And because of Airbnb's rules, you cannot have cameras inside
- 1:43Speaker 2: the house.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Oh so they couldn't even see what happened, Like what?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we we never got the answer on what
- 1:49Speaker 2: happened and caused all the damage inside. We did get
- 1:52Speaker 2: answers as to what caused the damage of some of
- 1:53Speaker 2: the windows, which I don't know how they were playing
- 1:59Speaker 2: with and everything else in the house, but it was
- 2:02Speaker 2: peing pong balls, golf balls, and we're just like, okay, okay,
- 2:05Speaker 2: I understand.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So what happened is she had demolished the house and
- 2:08Speaker 1: rebuilt a new house.
- 2:09Speaker 2: She ended up demolishing it, sold the property, and has
- 2:12Speaker 2: done with Airbnb after that. She will never do another.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yeah, what a headache, like the liability you have, that's insane.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I've never heard of something that got so damaged that
- 2:21Speaker 4: they had to take it all down, wreck the whole thing.
- 2:24Speaker 3: She's probably why I have those like thirty five hundred
- 2:27Speaker 3: dollars event cheese nowadays, because those are people's homes, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: sometimes when they come back to That's crazy, are you?
- 2:33Speaker 2: She she had to demolish it, and the main reason
- 2:36Speaker 2: it was demolished was because of the sewer water damage
- 2:40Speaker 2: and then because of the fire damage.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Well Peyton doesn't even like golf, so yeah, good, it's
- 2:46Speaker 3: too hot outdoor activities are for me.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Well, Melinda, thanks for calling in and sharing that story
- 2:50Speaker 1: with us.
