Transcript
- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, last episode we ordered chai at the cafe. But what happens when we're done? Lucas: Ah, you want to pay the bill. That's a great next step. Today we'll learn how to ask for the bill and say thank you. Luna: Perfect. I always feel awkward when the bill comes. Lucas: No worries. The first phrase is 'billu ivvandi'. Repeat after me: billu ivvandi. Luna: Billu ivvandi. Lucas: Exactly. It means 'give me the bill'. Now you can say it to the waiter. Luna: Billu ivvandi. I got it. Lucas: Good. Now when the waiter gives you the bill, you might want to ask 'entha?' which means 'how much?'. Luna: Ent? Lucas: Close. Ent-ha. Ent-ha. Luna: Ent-ha. Lucas: Perfect. So you say 'billu ivvandi', then 'entha?'. Luna: Billu ivvandi. Entha? Got it. Lucas: Now, after you pay, you'll want to say 'chala dhanyavadalu' — thank you very much. Luna: Chala dhanyavadalu. That's a mouthful. Lucas: Chala dhanyavadalu. Try it slowly. Luna: Cha-la dha nya va da lu. Lucas: Beautiful. Now let's put it all together. Imagine we're at the cafe. You finish your chai. What do you say? Luna: Billu ivvandi. Lucas: The waiter brings the bill. You say... Luna: Entha? Lucas: He says '50 rupees'. You pay and say... Luna: Chala dhanyavadalu. Lucas: Perfect. You just had a full conversation in Telugu. Luna: That feels great. Can we practice one more time? Lucas: Absolutely. I'll be the waiter. You order chai, drink it, then ask for the bill. Luna: Naku tea kavali. Lucas: Okay, here's your chai. A little later... you're done. Luna: Billu ivvandi. Lucas: Here's the bill. Luna: Entha? Lucas: 30 rupees. Luna: Chala dhanyavadalu. Lucas: You nailed it. You even remembered 'naku tea kavali' from last time. Luna: Of course. So, Lucas, if someone asks me 'idi mee billu', what does that mean? Lucas: That means 'this is your bill'. So if the waiter says that, you know it's yours. Luna: Idi mee billu. Good to know. Lucas: Yes. And you can reply 'chala dhanyavadalu'. Luna: Right. Lucas, I have to say, using Fexingo to learn these phrases has been so helpful.
