- 0:20Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast Season six finale or the Spring
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hunters Aarberniki, Austin Rose, the Code of Free Tech. I'm
- 0:30Speaker 1: got the crown nat Natty Champ gear on. I feel
- 0:34Speaker 1: like a player, part of the team here on video.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Austin's got his Nebraska shirt on. Dak who we successfully
- 0:41Speaker 1: this year converted into a Husker fan.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Still not wearing Husker stuff.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Nope, I was this weekend though you.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Did this weekend, so you guys actually went No, we
- 0:57Speaker 4: were just out Okay, when I no the pictures, it
- 1:03Speaker 4: looked like no one went so games.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The Husker games as we're talking on Saturday, as you
- 1:11Speaker 1: call it full day of stuff right that they're obviously
- 1:14Speaker 1: what we're stuff at the stadium. That was really just
- 1:17Speaker 1: like been out of shape that like there's nobody there.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Like I will say, that's about what I expected, Like
- 1:25Speaker 1: I was not surprised. It's one of those things that
- 1:28Speaker 1: like even myself, I as far as what I wanted
- 1:33Speaker 1: to see, like I got the clips of what I
- 1:35Speaker 1: needed to see on Twitter, Like it's different. I guess
- 1:38Speaker 1: if you're watching the game, Yeah, you can obviously watch
- 1:40Speaker 1: it on TV, but it's not like you're going to
- 1:43Speaker 1: watch a game necessarily, and you're you're going to watch
- 1:48Speaker 1: mini games and mini clips, and from what I even heard,
- 1:51Speaker 1: it was kind of even hard to see what was
- 1:52Speaker 1: going on. Like when they're eating wings, it's like they're
- 1:56Speaker 1: sitting at a table, Like, what are you really going
- 1:58Speaker 1: to get besides just watching it on the big screen.
- 2:00Speaker 4: The fun front of many games is participated in many games,
- 2:04Speaker 4: you know, like I can you wings, I.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Can throw a football out of basketball.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Who I can't play a full eleven man an football game.
- 2:15Speaker 6: We just it just feel like it felt like it
- 2:18Speaker 6: wasn't like hyped up at all this year. I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 6: they said they were't gonna do much. I didn't even see.
- 2:25Speaker 6: Did they end up doing scrimmage?
- 2:29Speaker 5: I think so there was no footage of it.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't like a full on game by any
- 2:36Speaker 2: like a game scream sohomore playing I don't know.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think that opens up a bigger can of words
- 2:42Speaker 1: and a bigger topic of conversation. Obviously, Nebraska is one place,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but we're not the only place that didn't have spring games. Now,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Dan Lanning in Oregon, they went full pads, full game
- 2:53Speaker 1: like basically live except for the quarterbacks, like they went.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They still did it that way. Some teams just didn't
- 3:01Speaker 2: even have anything right.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Nebraska threw something out there and adjusted it as as
- 3:06Speaker 1: demand needed.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I don't know what spring football is going to really
- 3:13Speaker 1: come to. It's, you know, a three week practice session
- 3:17Speaker 1: that you get with your team for the upcoming fall,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and it usually ended with some sort of spring game.
- 3:23Speaker 1: But we are just in a changing world of college
- 3:28Speaker 1: football where it's just different. And Rule was on the
- 3:31Speaker 1: forefront of saying we're not playing a spring game. We
- 3:35Speaker 1: don't want our players to get tampered with because they're
- 3:39Speaker 1: putting themselves out there. He was in the forefront of that,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and they weren't the only school that decided to go
- 3:44Speaker 1: that route.
- 3:45Speaker 2: What is what's the future of spring football?
- 3:50Speaker 4: I think we go back to the spring game. There's
- 3:52Speaker 4: too much money to not have a spring game. I
- 3:54Speaker 4: guarantee you they missed the paycheck from the not quite
- 3:59Speaker 4: as sold out state.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Yes, um huh see.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I don't see with all this nil stuff, I don't
- 4:06Speaker 1: know that that is as important as it used to be.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Now still a good chunk of change, don't get me wrong,
- 4:13Speaker 1: but I guess I think there's revenue coming in more
- 4:17Speaker 1: places now generating revenue that I don't know that it's
- 4:20Speaker 1: as much of a loss as it used to be.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I think I think exactly that you I didn't think
- 4:26Speaker 6: go back to it next year normal.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I do think which I heard that.
- 4:32Speaker 6: I've heard this from Colorado and other places too.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Having other teams come in. I think that's eventually what
- 4:36Speaker 3: it's going to be now. I'm not what other team
- 4:40Speaker 3: is could be.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That's that's where I think it's headed.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Like what volleyball team that did this year of Kansas
- 4:48Speaker 1: and played agreed upon four sets no matter what, Nebraska
- 4:52Speaker 1: did sweep Kansas in all four under new coach Danny
- 4:57Speaker 1: Buss Boom Kelly, I think it's going that way. I
- 5:01Speaker 1: think I don't know if it'll be next year, say,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but I do think that fans. As far as reviving
- 5:07Speaker 1: the spring game, I don't see it going back to
- 5:09Speaker 1: what it was. I also don't see it this.
- 5:15Speaker 4: It's never going to be the Husker games again. No,
- 5:17Speaker 4: this was kind of the one year.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Thing.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So I I do think the big hiccup with spring
- 5:27Speaker 1: exhibition games that you want to call them, I don't
- 5:29Speaker 1: think they're going to want to do a full travel
- 5:34Speaker 1: like let's go play once in or South Carolina, or
- 5:39Speaker 1: like it's going to be a local Iowa State, Kansas, Colorado,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Kansas State, Missouri, you know, a game where you can
- 5:46Speaker 1: travel in one day, take a bus. And I also
- 5:50Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be a full college football game.
- 5:53Speaker 1: It's going to be more like what the NFL teams
- 5:54Speaker 1: do when they practice, where you're just you're going to
- 5:57Speaker 1: have some different scrimmages and work on different things against
- 6:00Speaker 1: each other. I could also see it being closed doors
- 6:03Speaker 1: with no filming as well, if they do that, which
- 6:07Speaker 1: maybe now to this point the money parts interesting, it
- 6:12Speaker 1: will be closed doors.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Could if the coaches want it that way, I think.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I think.
- 6:20Speaker 1: If rule is so adamant on this not putting my
- 6:25Speaker 1: players out there, obviously we're nowhere close to cooling down
- 6:31Speaker 1: this portal thing, then he's not gonna want people.
- 6:34Speaker 2: He's not he's not gonna want to put his his
- 6:37Speaker 2: top players.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Out there and any in any aspect to any people
- 6:41Speaker 1: to any way of doing it.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Again, this is long term, short term.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I don't know what to look at it yet because
- 6:46Speaker 1: everything's changing, but I just don't I don't know.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's just interesting. I don't know where we're going with
- 6:52Speaker 2: spring football.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I will say, out of any year, what was your
- 6:57Speaker 1: interest level in spring football this year compared to prior Oh?
- 7:03Speaker 4: Zero interest zero prior years. I definitely following along. I
- 7:07Speaker 4: watched it on TV. I'd go to Lincoln this year,
- 7:11Speaker 4: didn't care.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Is that a product because you knew there wasn't a
- 7:14Speaker 1: quote unquote game that you weren't going to be able
- 7:17Speaker 1: to watch, stify your thoughts or them all together to
- 7:22Speaker 1: wrap up spring football. I totally think that is, whether
- 7:25Speaker 1: you realize it or not, That's completely why I was
- 7:27Speaker 1: in the same boat last year.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Was excited to see doing real this year. Would have
- 7:31Speaker 4: been excited to see some of our freshmen, some of
- 7:34Speaker 4: our transfers. You know, this year it's like, all right, well,
- 7:38Speaker 4: I can't wait to watch Dane Key jumped excitedly as
- 7:44Speaker 4: ja Cory Blarney junior runs in a race.
- 7:47Speaker 5: You know, it's like, okay, cool. Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 4: It felt like like the last five minutes of the
- 7:57Speaker 4: Chasing three episode.
- 7:58Speaker 5: This kind of felt like the whole purpose of the
- 8:00Speaker 5: Customer games where.
- 8:02Speaker 6: I had no interest and I don't think I mean
- 8:05Speaker 6: I saw pictures downtown, there was nobody out for it either,
- 8:07Speaker 6: Like I don't think many people are interest in this game.
- 8:09Speaker 5: There wasn't great.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Wasn't great either, Yeah, no game and not The weather
- 8:14Speaker 4: wasn't bad, but it wasn't like let's go walk around
- 8:17Speaker 4: downtown kind of weather.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Was it even on TV?
- 8:21Speaker 1: No, Like I said, as far as the game goes,
- 8:26Speaker 1: like I I actually, I honestly don't even know what
- 8:28Speaker 1: they played for the quote unquote game.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It was just a bunch of mini games.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And so like I saw the clips of You mentioned
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Royola making it through the hoop, You mentioned him
- 8:35Speaker 1: getting you haven't mentioned him getting sacked by a Midland
- 8:38Speaker 1: women's linebacker in flag football.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Not good, you know.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I saw the white Men eating the Wings. I saw
- 8:47Speaker 1: the Heinrid Harberg losing to John Cook on the on
- 8:50Speaker 1: the last showing mobile cow.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Like I saw the clips of all of it. So
- 8:57Speaker 2: like I got, I saw and had.
- 9:00Speaker 5: A better view than in that stadium.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yes, Saja Cory Barty winning the Fastest Man competition, like
- 9:07Speaker 1: all those things are out there, and I knew that
- 9:10Speaker 1: kind of was gonna be the case. I was gonna
- 9:11Speaker 1: we were gonna get the major highlights. Anyways, Thank God
- 9:14Speaker 1: for Dylan for making that shot so we could win
- 9:16Speaker 1: the offseason Natty title this year.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I was worried.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I don't you might be the only Husker fan I
- 9:24Speaker 4: know that's just so excited to ship on a quarterback.
- 9:28Speaker 4: It's disgusting.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It wasn't all I'm gonna say Husker fans in general.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I'm glad he made you.
- 9:33Speaker 4: The text messages you said, I swear you're looking pretty chunky.
- 9:38Speaker 3: He's looking pretty chunky, Quill.
- 9:40Speaker 5: He is not like chunky, you know.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I thought. I'm not joking about that. I think he
- 9:44Speaker 3: did actually pretty fat.
- 9:46Speaker 6: Like after you made that shot, he was jumping around.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I think he looked pretty big.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I'm not shiitting on. I want him to produce. Before
- 9:56Speaker 2: I he didn't.
- 9:57Speaker 3: He was.
- 9:58Speaker 5: He was.
- 10:00Speaker 1: As expected probably last year at best in what he
- 10:05Speaker 1: was going in. So I mean, that's what our team
- 10:07Speaker 1: has been. I want to see a guy really produced,
- 10:10Speaker 1: and I think the lack of lack of footwork in
- 10:15Speaker 1: which has been addressed publicly and it seems to be
- 10:20Speaker 1: the key point of improvement this offseason. So I hope
- 10:25Speaker 1: it pays off.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I really do. But I'm just saying to support that theory.
- 10:29Speaker 2: He got sacked by.
- 10:30Speaker 1: A Midland linebacker female in flight football.
- 10:37Speaker 5: You're right, play football is the same thing.
- 10:40Speaker 1: As as the Brass women get beat by Midland, they're
- 10:42Speaker 1: down like forty seven nothing.
- 10:44Speaker 4: I think at one point, yeah, you're undervaluing the Midland
- 10:48Speaker 4: women to play football.
- 10:50Speaker 5: You have another competition.
- 10:51Speaker 6: Level, So do you Benjamin since he got sacked by
- 10:53Speaker 6: mid line Midland linebacker, what.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Gotta consider it?
- 11:02Speaker 5: Maybe?
- 11:03Speaker 4: Well, in all disappointed we didn't do a spring game.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Bringing back the spring spring game. If people want to
- 11:09Speaker 4: poacher people, they're gonna do it. Anyways.
- 11:12Speaker 6: I think I think one hundred percent it comes back.
- 11:14Speaker 6: Just just give money.
- 11:17Speaker 4: At some point they'll probably address the spring portal timing.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I think all the portal timing is going to get
- 11:21Speaker 4: a judged.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think, yeah, I think all the portal is probably the
- 11:24Speaker 1: first way of trying to stabilize all these moving parts.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And I know I don't know the details of the
- 11:33Speaker 1: house settlement hearing that have been going on the past
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think a month or so. I know it's not
- 11:40Speaker 1: completely final yet and the judges and willing to sign
- 11:42Speaker 1: the dotted line, but I know they are working on
- 11:45Speaker 1: something and I don't know the details of it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: So I'm not going to try to comment.
- 11:48Speaker 1: On it, but they're trying to do something with all
- 11:51Speaker 1: of this wild West chaos that's gone for now like
- 11:54Speaker 1: probably two or three years now, and it's just continuing
- 11:57Speaker 1: to get I'm not gonna say worse, but just continue
- 12:00Speaker 1: you in to get more and more extreme with everything.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So I think that, yeah, you're right, the transfer portal
- 12:09Speaker 1: and all of that is going to be the first
- 12:11Speaker 1: easy thing to start putting the rules and guidelines down
- 12:17Speaker 1: and how.
- 12:18Speaker 2: That works, now, how you enforce that. Good luck that
- 12:25Speaker 2: you're running a shirt with your name on it.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you always gotta be ready to work.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Stop fun. Uh.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So I guesstiging on the topic of football here and
- 12:38Speaker 1: what I want to do to kind of wrap up
- 12:40Speaker 1: the season six of our discussion. I just want us
- 12:45Speaker 1: to have open conversation on each position. You know, how
- 12:50Speaker 1: how you feel about is any position, position groups as
- 12:53Speaker 1: we go through it that you feel good about that
- 12:55Speaker 1: you think lack depth, that have depth, that are strong suits?
- 12:59Speaker 2: Are we weak points? I believe that the portal open
- 13:05Speaker 2: up again before the season.
- 13:06Speaker 5: I have no idea, Yes, I want to say it does.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I think it opens up here soon.
- 13:12Speaker 1: We're We're going to go through each one of these here,
- 13:14Speaker 1: and I'll kind of kick us off with position by
- 13:17Speaker 1: position what we have based off of which. I like
- 13:20Speaker 1: looking at this our Labs depth chart, like they keep
- 13:24Speaker 1: it updated pretty daily weekly and even have one out
- 13:28Speaker 1: for next fall, as I kind of like a projection.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Now by no means this is gonna be what we
- 13:32Speaker 1: see again Cincinnati on August twenty eighth, but it's a
- 13:38Speaker 1: starting point anyway, So let's let's just start.
- 13:43Speaker 2: We can just do it.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Since we've been talking about Dylan, Dylan Royola is going
- 13:46Speaker 1: to be our starting quarterback. Dylan Royola is the face
- 13:49Speaker 1: of this team. He is there with Jalen Grahamstead is
- 13:58Speaker 1: most likely our backup. Marcos Davila is there as a
- 14:03Speaker 1: recherd freshman transfer. I believe there's somebody else that is
- 14:07Speaker 1: not listed on here, Heiner Carberg tight end.
- 14:11Speaker 2: So he's not here anymore as a.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Great last in case of emergency quarterback.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yep, him, you got promised. Well.
- 14:18Speaker 4: I refuse to believe that they played Jalen Grahams before
- 14:22Speaker 4: Heiner Carberg.
- 14:23Speaker 5: But I guess you know, that's the way. That's the
- 14:25Speaker 5: way it thinking.
- 14:26Speaker 1: That's how it's gonna look next year if the situation
- 14:29Speaker 1: goes to it.
- 14:30Speaker 2: So that's where we're out with the quarterback.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But I mean, I think, as much as I say
- 14:35Speaker 1: to you, gotta feel decent about our quarterback position.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Obviously.
- 14:39Speaker 1: The one area that I wanted to see improvement is
- 14:41Speaker 1: with the mobility of him, not necessarily running for ten
- 14:45Speaker 1: design QB runs, but being more elusive in the pocket
- 14:48Speaker 1: and scrambling when needed.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's going to be working on it.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Dylan is, like I said, he's the face of this
- 14:54Speaker 1: team and that family is kind of the face of
- 14:57Speaker 1: our program and could be here the next several years.
- 15:03Speaker 2: This is a big year for Nebraska, for Dylan at Nebraska.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I don't if we don't win more than six games
- 15:12Speaker 1: next year, I don't see a Dylan's future here. I
- 15:17Speaker 1: see I see him being very frustrated. If that's the
- 15:19Speaker 1: case in himself or with the program in general, in
- 15:24Speaker 1: that whole face of the program, the direction of the
- 15:27Speaker 1: program under him could fade. I don't think that's it's
- 15:31Speaker 1: gonna happen, but it definitely could. I mean, we've seen
- 15:34Speaker 1: much worse. So that's my thought on where we're at quarterback.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think we're solid. Dylan ll is good.
- 15:44Speaker 5: He's one of the best quarterbacks we've had in a while.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Even if he didn't exceed the expectations last year, the
- 15:49Speaker 4: expectations were really high and he did not feel like
- 15:54Speaker 4: the problem for most of the season last year. There
- 15:57Speaker 4: are a couple of moments, obviously, but that's just gonna happening.
- 15:59Speaker 4: The balls in your hand every every offensive possession. I
- 16:03Speaker 4: feel good about it, hopefully. Uh, you know, Dana Holgerson, Dellanarilla,
- 16:08Speaker 4: combo hands out.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 6: The main thing is you just don't want them to
- 16:14Speaker 6: leave going next year. So like with those six wins
- 16:17Speaker 6: you said, I think it depends on how it goes
- 16:18Speaker 6: If he if he goes out his balls out, you guys,
- 16:22Speaker 6: gets six wins, he's gone, like he's not staying for them.
- 16:25Speaker 6: But but if he goes out he gets six wins,
- 16:26Speaker 6: then he sucks.
- 16:28Speaker 4: Then he's still probably Yeah, but his fault, it's someone
- 16:34Speaker 4: else's fault.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Probably, I don't know.
- 16:37Speaker 6: I think I think it'll be interesting now that you
- 16:39Speaker 6: have a full year or two under Holgerson, interesting to
- 16:46Speaker 6: see what he what he tries to run down instead
- 16:48Speaker 6: of just kind of coming in off the fly and.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Just making up his own offense after last year.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I completely agree.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think that's gonna be a big thing to watch,
- 16:57Speaker 1: is you know, this is the first year that Dana
- 17:00Speaker 1: gets a full year with players that he knows that
- 17:04Speaker 1: he has and you know, recruited transfer portal whatever you
- 17:07Speaker 1: want to say, got some guys in that fits what
- 17:09Speaker 1: he wants to do. We know he saw the idea
- 17:13Speaker 1: of it with what we had last year to end
- 17:15Speaker 1: the year, but I would say, by no means that's
- 17:17Speaker 1: going to be the final product.
- 17:19Speaker 2: We see the start game one this year.
- 17:20Speaker 1: So I think that's the key thing is how is
- 17:23Speaker 1: data going to utilize Dylan? How's Dylan going to utilize
- 17:25Speaker 1: data for his offense to look God, even we can
- 17:30Speaker 1: just say the word better than the last couple of years,
- 17:33Speaker 1: because even I mean last year was not not a
- 17:35Speaker 1: great offense either until data kind of gave it a
- 17:39Speaker 1: little bit of life there late in the year.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So I agree.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Right behind those guys are running backs. Emma Johnson pretty
- 17:52Speaker 1: much the clear number one running back that we think
- 17:55Speaker 1: going into the fall. Now, we haven't had that in
- 17:57Speaker 1: a while. We've gone the last couple of years. Where's
- 18:01Speaker 1: it's kind of been an open conversation for who's going
- 18:04Speaker 1: to get the carries this year. Seems to be em
- 18:06Speaker 1: At the number one guy Quentin I's backing him up,
- 18:09Speaker 1: had a good bowl game against Boston College for a
- 18:10Speaker 1: touchdown there. Akai Nelson and Marion Parker two freshmen that
- 18:16Speaker 1: are also there.
- 18:18Speaker 2: This might just be me, but this to me feels
- 18:21Speaker 2: like a question mark.
- 18:26Speaker 4: The Notre Dame guy or not Notre Dame, the Arthakota
- 18:29Speaker 4: State guy announce he's supposed announce today.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I actually have not you're talking.
- 18:36Speaker 5: I'll look it up.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So like that that would be a guy that, like
- 18:42Speaker 1: I think would help add depth to this group. Jamar
- 18:47Speaker 1: Browns his name, Uh, you know, three days ago he
- 18:50Speaker 1: visited on to campus and and he had obviously a
- 18:57Speaker 1: very strong year in Ordakota State rush for over that
- 19:00Speaker 1: in the yard, fifteen touchdowns. I have not seen any
- 19:02Speaker 1: news though if he's committed today or not he uh.
- 19:07Speaker 5: But Paul says cal but no official commitment.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So I think the worry here to me is a
- 19:15Speaker 2: little bit of depth.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But also, like gosh, it would be nice just to
- 19:18Speaker 1: have a dude, a guy at running back, like a
- 19:21Speaker 1: Birkhead or Abdullah and those guys aren't like elite elite
- 19:25Speaker 1: running backs, but they're pretty damn good.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I just feel like.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Flash some pretty good stuff good.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I just don't know if Emmett can ever get is
- 19:35Speaker 1: ever going to get to that point. I mean he's
- 19:36Speaker 1: he's a solid running back. Don't get me wrong, I don't. Again,
- 19:40Speaker 1: I haven't. We haven't seen him, I gain, I'm not.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's bad, but he's a five or
- 19:46Speaker 1: six out of ten out of me or you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: it'd be nice to have a guy's like Hallou a
- 19:51Speaker 1: mirror those guys.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Those guys are eight out of.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Tens for what we've had at Nebraska, I mean solid,
- 19:57Speaker 1: really good guys that can do more. We didn't have
- 20:00Speaker 1: guys that could break tackles last year. Now Dowdell is
- 20:02Speaker 1: the worst example of that. But that this is to
- 20:07Speaker 1: me is a question mark now. Also, very few teams
- 20:11Speaker 1: have a workhorse back. Our offense. I also don't think
- 20:14Speaker 1: is built to run a guy twenty two times. Maybe
- 20:16Speaker 1: it could change this year. Does Emma Johnson have that
- 20:20Speaker 1: in him? I think Ives is going to help contribute
- 20:23Speaker 1: in a lot of ways. I think Ives going to
- 20:24Speaker 1: get six to eight carries a game, and then you
- 20:26Speaker 1: can see Emtt getting thirteen to fifteen. I think that's
- 20:28Speaker 1: probably what we're guessing going in these younger guys. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: just don't know if they're ready or not yet. We
- 20:33Speaker 1: may we don't know. Didn't have a springing.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I feel good with that. I mean running back quarterback
- 20:44Speaker 4: plays good, and our offensive line plays good. Running back
- 20:46Speaker 4: is going to be fine.
- 20:47Speaker 5: And I thought Emmett he played really well out of the.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Backfield last year as the receiving option, which I thought
- 20:52Speaker 4: was really important. I obviously wouldn't say it feel as
- 20:58Speaker 4: good about the running back room as I did last year.
- 21:02Speaker 4: But that's just because I don't know what the freshman.
- 21:04Speaker 4: I have no idea what the freshman. Yeo, there was
- 21:07Speaker 4: no spring game this year. I didn't get to see
- 21:08Speaker 4: anyone to get excited about.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Well, here's here's the maintains from last year. And I'm
- 21:14Speaker 6: not saying it's great depth, but you had a lot
- 21:16Speaker 6: of depth at running back. Now now you don't at all,
- 21:21Speaker 6: like unless this take out coming in about a lot,
- 21:24Speaker 6: which you really I think you really need him.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Because I think we got I think the word depth
- 21:31Speaker 1: though is is you'll be careful with that word, because
- 21:35Speaker 1: I would say last.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Year we were I don't know what you call it.
- 21:38Speaker 1: We were deep in the sense that we had four guys,
- 21:40Speaker 1: but they were all about the same skill level and
- 21:42Speaker 1: they were all like average backs. None of them were
- 21:47Speaker 1: We talked about this during the season. None of them
- 21:49Speaker 1: were good enough to stand out to become the true
- 21:52Speaker 1: cut starter because none of them played that well. Like you,
- 21:55Speaker 1: A couple of them had a couple of decent games
- 21:57Speaker 1: or decent carries, but to me that looking back on
- 22:00Speaker 1: it was more of a problem than a good thing
- 22:03Speaker 1: in a backfield, especially after you see some of these elite,
- 22:09Speaker 1: really good teams in the playoffs. A lot of them
- 22:11Speaker 1: have a strong back that they can rely upon to
- 22:14Speaker 1: get them you know.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Through doubt. Now, if you're out of state, you're lucky.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And have the luxury of having two guys can basically
- 22:22Speaker 1: getting drafted back to back in the second or third
- 22:24Speaker 1: round this year. But you know, we're obviously not gettingwhere
- 22:26Speaker 1: close to that. So I don't know or we deep
- 22:30Speaker 1: last year. I mean, Emmett is going to be better
- 22:33Speaker 1: than anyone was last year. I agree with that point,
- 22:36Speaker 1: but I just don't know with the rest of these guys.
- 22:41Speaker 1: How they're going to contribute.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't I really don't know what you would
- 22:48Speaker 6: call last year's I wouldn't really call it death. I
- 22:54Speaker 6: guess they they all they all kind of sucked basically.
- 22:58Speaker 4: This Yeah sucked, but they didn't change the game. They
- 23:02Speaker 4: didn't move the needle language, but they you know, they
- 23:04Speaker 4: could get you three or four yards to carry.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yep, we were lacking.
- 23:09Speaker 1: The explosive make a guy miss player back there receiving
- 23:15Speaker 1: corps and.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna work. We'll do tight ends separately here.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Dame Key comes in from Kentucky as I would expect,
- 23:26Speaker 1: probably the number one target.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Guy.
- 23:31Speaker 1: And Isaiah Hunter's up there too, He's going to be
- 23:33Speaker 1: starting as a transfer. Jacry Barney obviously back and showed
- 23:39Speaker 1: had a really really solid I mean as far as
- 23:42Speaker 1: expectations going into the year, I mean, exceeded probably the
- 23:46Speaker 1: most at anybody as as a freshman, and then Cortes
- 23:50Speaker 1: Mills as a freshman, Demetrius Bell sophomore, now Isaiah Mosy
- 23:56Speaker 1: freshman coming in. You know, it's a young group. Generian
- 23:58Speaker 1: Bonner's there too to play some slot that he played
- 24:01Speaker 1: last year.
- 24:02Speaker 2: It's a young group.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Overall, you know all of freshmen, sophomores, I mean bonners
- 24:08Speaker 1: and junior and then you had a DA leading the group.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It we'll see works. Receivers are so hard. I am
- 24:17Speaker 1: a true believer, and you see it more in the NFL.
- 24:19Speaker 3: I don't the.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Elite receivers and it come few and far between. And
- 24:27Speaker 1: I do think Nebraska's strategy right now, I'm just portal
- 24:30Speaker 1: guying portal portaling receivers.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Every year is good. I like that strategy.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think that's one position that you can kind of
- 24:38Speaker 1: plug and play a little bit and then you might
- 24:40Speaker 1: hit a couple of jack pops here or there. I
- 24:44Speaker 1: don't think it's one that you're necessarily looking to develop
- 24:48Speaker 1: over time. I don't mind the approach, but it's just
- 24:51Speaker 1: one of those things you just don't know what you're
- 24:52Speaker 1: gonna get.
- 24:53Speaker 2: You have no idea until until you see him in
- 24:55Speaker 2: the in the fall.
- 24:58Speaker 4: That was the guy who got hurt Spring game? Correct,
- 25:01Speaker 4: who's the who guy? No, it's a safety blue. Yeah, Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 4: Barnie was really good, really excited about Barnie. That's said
- 25:12Speaker 4: that Alex Bullock transferred, or to Alex Bullock who last
- 25:17Speaker 4: year got so much praise as being the wonders, Like
- 25:19Speaker 4: we literally put him into block like he was the
- 25:21Speaker 4: one receiver.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Good block and.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Now he's out even though he started several games. Yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 4: I'm with you. It's a young group.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I have no idea how good they're gonna be.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Ja Corey is gonna be good outside of that zero
- 25:37Speaker 4: clue new wide receiver coach.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Mm hmm. That's my research nose spring game, those spring games.
- 25:47Speaker 2: It makes it hard, Like that's why it's stops. It's
- 25:50Speaker 2: like thrown out there.
- 25:50Speaker 3: What do you think? We don't know?
- 25:51Speaker 1: So we're just literally throwing out blind shots in the
- 25:54Speaker 1: dark because we don't really have a clue other than
- 25:57Speaker 1: what we see on social media, Like from other schools they.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Have MOI whose dad's on the staff? Or is that
- 26:04Speaker 4: Qurted Mills? I don't know, like one of their dads
- 26:09Speaker 4: on staff. I know Malcolm Simpson dads on the staff.
- 26:13Speaker 4: I think.
- 26:16Speaker 6: I mean there's there's one thing for three. You got
- 26:18Speaker 6: speed on this in this group here. Now, Like you
- 26:25Speaker 6: said about the transfers coming in, I don't know how
- 26:29Speaker 6: much did you guys watch much of Dan Key or
- 26:31Speaker 6: anyone else?
- 26:32Speaker 5: Like I watched the highlight video and he has entered the.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's about it.
- 26:37Speaker 6: And he he looks good on that, so that that's
- 26:40Speaker 6: highlight video.
- 26:41Speaker 3: I think.
- 26:43Speaker 6: I think he's going to be probably one of the
- 26:45Speaker 6: better wider series you've had.
- 26:47Speaker 3: In a while.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I hope we have not we have not no as
- 26:55Speaker 2: far as receiver recently.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Mayor wasn't bad last year.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I guess he's not good. I'm sorry.
- 27:02Speaker 1: We again we we we have not had and it's
- 27:05Speaker 1: why our offense has not been good.
- 27:06Speaker 2: We have not had playmakers.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And if we have a playmaker, it's one like that
- 27:12Speaker 1: a Trey Palmer in recent years that can you know,
- 27:15Speaker 1: beat Ale over the top. But like it's not we
- 27:18Speaker 1: don't have multiple guys that we have to work with.
- 27:22Speaker 2: We'll see this year. I don't know.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I hope you're oh, the other guy, I guess that
- 27:25Speaker 1: he's listened. The tight end here is Carter Nelson. He's
- 27:27Speaker 1: gonna play some receiver as well, isn't he good?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Point?
- 27:32Speaker 2: So we won't have him, So yeah, I don't know
- 27:38Speaker 2: this question Mark.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And then tight ends Luke Lindenmeyer and and Heiner Harber
- 27:42Speaker 1: are going to be our two guys there.
- 27:43Speaker 4: And Harber's the freaking spirit animal of this football team.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Like he is the dunk contest, the horse racing. You know,
- 27:55Speaker 4: he's always on the field, hanging out the guys like
- 27:58Speaker 4: that team breaking Harberg.
- 28:04Speaker 2: It's good.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Like it's I think that's the type of player I
- 28:09Speaker 1: guess that you want to model some of your culture
- 28:12Speaker 1: values by you.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Will mentioned that they were working on his running after
- 28:17Speaker 4: catches being so that's always a good thing to hear
- 28:20Speaker 4: about your second string tight ends.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And I'll say this, he was actually in the fastest
- 28:25Speaker 2: man competition, was.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I think, yeah, he was, or he was towards the back,
- 28:30Speaker 1: but he I mean it was all close, right, he
- 28:32Speaker 1: was within a step of losing that thing. So like,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I mean that's also you're like, okay, Hedrick, like Nate Morbichert,
- 28:40Speaker 1: another one that was in this room last year transferred
- 28:43Speaker 1: to Texas A and m like I I again, depends
- 28:47Speaker 1: what you want how you're going to use your tight ends.
- 28:49Speaker 2: That's one position that you can use your tight.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Ends in a variety of different ways to make them good,
- 28:54Speaker 1: right blocking passing, you know, moving them outside. They're going
- 28:58Speaker 1: to play a lot of different spots. Just how you
- 29:00Speaker 1: want to use utilize them.
- 29:02Speaker 2: In your offense.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And I think that's obviously something we're not gonna know
- 29:06Speaker 1: again until the fall.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Anyway, boy, this is a good preview. But everyone listening
- 29:14Speaker 4: to still you are in for a treat. We still
- 29:17Speaker 4: got defense. Actually, I will say, all right, Dak talk
- 29:21Speaker 4: about tight ends. That's gonna move on.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Well, all I gotta say is Ourburg's one you can use.
- 29:26Speaker 6: You'll probably use. I would think you can position the
- 29:29Speaker 6: tight end probably well, he'll hell, he might be your quarterback.
- 29:34Speaker 5: He'll have some trick plays. He will throw the ball.
- 29:37Speaker 5: I would take the over under put the line, the
- 29:40Speaker 5: over under line. I'd probably put it five. Oh wow,
- 29:43Speaker 5: that's higher than I would have put it.
- 29:46Speaker 4: I think I would put three and a half, maybe
- 29:49Speaker 4: two and a half.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll throw.
- 29:54Speaker 6: Well, all I gotta say is if your backup tight
- 29:56Speaker 6: end comes into your quarterback, your seasons kind of ship.
- 29:58Speaker 3: So that that's all we've.
- 30:00Speaker 5: He wasn't a starting quarterback two years ago.
- 30:02Speaker 6: Yeah, and he came in last year. Yeah, he came
- 30:07Speaker 6: in last year. I didn't think he was terrible, Like.
- 30:10Speaker 5: No, he wasn't.
- 30:11Speaker 4: He didn't throw the ball lick, but man, he ran
- 30:13Speaker 4: like a freaking truck.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Some fans. Some fans wanted to play a royal up.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Times will be good, I do.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I know we're moving the offensive line. I think it's
- 30:24Speaker 4: the deepest group I really do offensively.
- 30:30Speaker 6: Well, how about how about your old tight end Thomas
- 30:32Speaker 6: Madoni getting drafted.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Hey back for just not letting us move off of
- 30:37Speaker 2: the tight ends?
- 30:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I know how big of a fan
- 30:42Speaker 3: of the nonie Austin was.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Oh yeah, huge fan. Uh good for him. I don't
- 30:49Speaker 5: really like it in New York.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Austin, you mentioned the tight end or the offensive
- 30:56Speaker 2: line here. I'm with you as long everybody stays healthy.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Here.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Offensive line, you gotta have like seven to eight guys.
- 31:08Speaker 1: And here's what's weird about this group's offensive lines. Usually
- 31:11Speaker 1: we can kind of pinpoint where everybody's gonna be on
- 31:13Speaker 1: the offensive line, you know, moving left to right.
- 31:17Speaker 5: No idea, we don't.
- 31:18Speaker 2: We don't know who our center is going to be.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Next year's probably Justin Evans.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Probably, you know, Sammy Sledge is the other one that
- 31:26Speaker 1: you maybe could throw in there. But yeah, everybody's leaning
- 31:28Speaker 1: towards it probably being Justin Evans, like, but you really
- 31:32Speaker 1: don't know Elijah Purtchett. We don't know he's gonna end
- 31:36Speaker 1: up playing one of the tackle spots. You know, we're
- 31:39Speaker 1: not really sure if it's gonna be left or right side.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You know, you bring in Rocco Spindler, we expect him
- 31:45Speaker 1: to be the right guard from Notre Dame, you know.
- 31:48Speaker 1: And then we have guys that have been around the
- 31:50Speaker 1: program for quite a while.
- 31:53Speaker 2: You're you know, Gunner Gatula, he's a sophomore.
- 31:56Speaker 1: But Teddy Perascas, you know, still here, like Turner core Krin,
- 32:00Speaker 1: he's still here.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Like those guys are around. Are they great up insive lineman?
- 32:06Speaker 2: Probably not, but it's wild they've been around forever, so
- 32:10Speaker 2: like they have experience. You know, that's great.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Henry Latowski another guy that we expect to see quite
- 32:18Speaker 1: a bit of this year. I'm throwing other names out there.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Tyler Kanaks still there as a junior, you know, he's
- 32:23Speaker 1: been here for three years. Brock Newtsen sophomore. You know,
- 32:29Speaker 1: there's some freshmen coming in, so there's a lot of
- 32:32Speaker 1: names here to work with. And I think that's to
- 32:33Speaker 1: your point. Austen Bricks was the big get last year.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yes, didn't see on the Google meet giving me the
- 32:42Speaker 4: thumbs up on the Grant Bricks.
- 32:43Speaker 5: There it is. There's the thumbs up again, the.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Thumbs up for Grant Brick.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I've always been big on that guy. He is just
- 32:53Speaker 3: great all time right there. I don't know how that happened, Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Grant closing to him like, I mean, yeah, you don't
- 33:03Speaker 4: feel like there's like that lockdown guy. But I feel
- 33:05Speaker 4: good about all of them, and I feel like you're
- 33:07Speaker 4: you know, I agree you need to be son eight deep,
- 33:09Speaker 4: but I feel like we're so many deep of they
- 33:12Speaker 4: could be starters, starting quality tackles.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And in this could go into the same conversation I
- 33:18Speaker 1: guess of our running backs last year, right, that all
- 33:21Speaker 1: are five to six out of tens, right, and easily
- 33:25Speaker 1: could be the case.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Here's the thing that's a big step up to where.
- 33:30Speaker 1: We've had like three or four or five out of
- 33:32Speaker 1: sixes and then like a guy that could not do
- 33:35Speaker 1: Jack shitt as a left tackle, like we've been in
- 33:38Speaker 1: those positions a lot the last few years. We obviously
- 33:42Speaker 1: have been very particular in our offensive linemen, very uh pessimistic.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I guess as far as what.
- 33:51Speaker 5: No more brace benhard to play, no more playing?
- 33:56Speaker 1: I think that this group has been a lot of potential,
- 34:00Speaker 1: but you you're what we said. We don't know where
- 34:03Speaker 1: they're all going to end up as far as and
- 34:05Speaker 1: I think they all are pretty mobile and can move around.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I think the one kind of lock is rock O
- 34:10Speaker 1: Spindler playing in that right guard spot. I think that's
- 34:12Speaker 1: probably the one we feel best about. But other than that,
- 34:16Speaker 1: you will see, we'll see it. It to me still
- 34:18Speaker 1: starts there. I don't give a crap about what we
- 34:21Speaker 1: have in the backfield the receiving group, Like, all that
- 34:23Speaker 1: conversation does not matter if we don't have an offensive line.
- 34:27Speaker 2: That can blot and it has definitely, like if we.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Drew a wine chart or a line draft over the
- 34:35Speaker 1: last like seven years, Like we're definitely seeing a slight
- 34:41Speaker 1: increase over the last couple of years compared to what
- 34:43Speaker 1: it was. Like it's getting better, but is it anywhere
- 34:47Speaker 1: close to where it needs to be to be a
- 34:49Speaker 1: consistent top twenty five team?
- 34:50Speaker 2: Not yet? Could it be this year? We'll see.
- 34:54Speaker 1: But that's that's that that to me is number one
- 34:56Speaker 1: most important that in the defensive line, number one most
- 34:58Speaker 1: important position that you need to be solid at. And
- 35:02Speaker 1: that's why you see all these offensive linemen defensive linemen
- 35:06Speaker 1: go in the first round of the NFL draft, Like
- 35:08Speaker 1: that's how important they are. NFL teams know that you
- 35:11Speaker 1: don't know their names, you're watching them on TV. No
- 35:13Speaker 1: one gets excited about the ninth overall pick being an
- 35:17Speaker 1: offensive tackle, But like, that's why those positions are so important,
- 35:20Speaker 1: because they are the they are the trenches of your team.
- 35:28Speaker 6: The all line's been so crappy last couple of years
- 35:30Speaker 6: that all you need. I think you just need like
- 35:32Speaker 6: a middle of the road defense lineman. Your fans will
- 35:34Speaker 6: be happy.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Last year. Last year is pretty good, That's what I'm saying.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Okay, run block not pretty good, but it got just
- 35:41Speaker 1: a step up from the year couple of years before.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Like I said, I think we're slowly going you know,
- 35:46Speaker 1: we're going up a little bit.
- 35:47Speaker 2: We're not that.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Last year is last year with la energy.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Like three years ago, our offensive line was a ridd
- 35:57Speaker 1: like trash. Last two years ago, I think it was
- 36:00Speaker 1: pretty try. Last year it was like, okay, like we did.
- 36:04Speaker 1: We did not spend a lot of time last year
- 36:05Speaker 1: during the season talking about the offensive line, let's put
- 36:08Speaker 1: it that way, which is good. So dak your take
- 36:11Speaker 1: on our oppensive line was trash last year is wrong,
- 36:14Speaker 1: but continue.
- 36:17Speaker 6: I was gonna say it sounds like Rocket Spandler's like
- 36:20Speaker 6: the main guy here, like everyone's talking about coming out
- 36:22Speaker 6: of the portal, like he's supposed to be probably your
- 36:24Speaker 6: best one if I had to put if I put
- 36:29Speaker 6: money on it, I think he's bringing me your best
- 36:30Speaker 6: sumens for lineman.
- 36:32Speaker 3: We should be now.
- 36:33Speaker 6: The main part is, like you said earlier, at least
- 36:35Speaker 6: ben Hart's gone, so you can pretty easy to upgrade
- 36:40Speaker 6: left tackle there.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Maybe we'll see. I don't know.
- 36:44Speaker 5: He had whatever six years of experience.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Was we rated like the worst ever one year or
- 36:51Speaker 3: something like that.
- 36:53Speaker 5: One year he was.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Rated like the worst offensive less tackle in college football
- 36:58Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 37:01Speaker 5: But he's he's he grew. You know, we didn't talk
- 37:04Speaker 5: about him last year. I don't you know, maybe I
- 37:07Speaker 5: was unfair.
- 37:08Speaker 4: I shouldn't say we don't have ben Hard to blame
- 37:10Speaker 4: because last year we did not blame ben Hart.
- 37:12Speaker 2: He was better. We didn't talk about it last year
- 37:15Speaker 2: for in a in a good way.
- 37:17Speaker 5: He took him sixty starts, but he got there. Gollogy,
- 37:21Speaker 5: I got talking about that line. He literally has.
- 37:24Speaker 4: The most career starts as the Nebraska football player. He
- 37:27Speaker 4: can't be that bad, like you know, like he.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Was here forever, he was that bad.
- 37:36Speaker 1: All three three five, Tony White grabs a bunch of
- 37:44Speaker 1: players they leave. Our defense was definitely our has been
- 37:48Speaker 1: our strength the past couple of years. We don't seem
- 37:53Speaker 1: like we're changing up our scheme here. With John Butler
- 37:57Speaker 1: as the new DC. UH, there are gonna be a
- 38:00Speaker 1: lot of new names on this side of the ball, uh,
- 38:03Speaker 1: starting at the defensive line here. You know, we anticipate
- 38:07Speaker 1: that no tackle position, Elijah Judy to kind of lead
- 38:10Speaker 1: the lead the force there, and Riley Van Poppel, you know,
- 38:14Speaker 1: getting quite a few minutes as well, and nose tackle
- 38:17Speaker 1: and then you're you're Keona Davis, Cameron Lenhart. Those guys
- 38:20Speaker 1: are gonna be your.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Your ends. Williams Nowerry and and Jalen George.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Some other guys to keep your eye on.
- 38:30Speaker 2: I think Williams and where when theery.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I think he could be a potential sleeper that no
- 38:38Speaker 1: one's really seen to play, that could have a quick impact
- 38:42Speaker 1: at the end position.
- 38:43Speaker 5: I think.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Correct, yes, yes, And and Jalen George also is is
- 38:50Speaker 1: a transfersial. I can't remember where he's from. I feel good,
- 38:58Speaker 1: I feel good. I feel I'm gonna say great. But
- 39:01Speaker 1: one of my strongest feeling good positions to me is
- 39:08Speaker 1: this front four or five that are gonna get a
- 39:12Speaker 1: lot of the six that are gonna get a lot
- 39:14Speaker 1: of the minutes here.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of experience. I think there's
- 39:17Speaker 2: also a.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Lot of physical abilities when it comes to what these
- 39:22Speaker 1: guys can can bring. And I'll say it like they're
- 39:27Speaker 1: why'd Judy is the only senior, So like this year
- 39:29Speaker 1: in and the next year, like, I feel good about
- 39:31Speaker 1: this group, and I think that's important. I think that's
- 39:33Speaker 1: a very good anchor to start your defense off with.
- 39:36Speaker 4: I'm assuming you're saying that, but you also have an
- 39:39Speaker 4: expectation we're gonna have a step back this year or
- 39:41Speaker 4: do you think.
- 39:43Speaker 1: No, let's sa Yeah, a good point because last year,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you know, with Tye and Nash right, like.
- 39:49Speaker 5: We were really good at stopping the run.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Yes, but I think because they were so good, I
- 39:53Speaker 1: think that only makes this group be, you know, more
- 39:57Speaker 1: and more developed better and now step into roles. I
- 40:00Speaker 1: think not saying that their their shoes are truly fillable because.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Tay obviously got drafted in the third round.
- 40:08Speaker 1: But I think they're gonna do a damn good job
- 40:11Speaker 1: of stepping in and doing I still feel good about
- 40:13Speaker 1: this group, even though we lost a couple of our
- 40:15Speaker 1: biggest guys there, I still feel good. I don't, I don't.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I don't want to say I don't. I don't think
- 40:21Speaker 1: we're gonna step back. But I think that was our
- 40:25Speaker 1: salt most strong position last year, and I think it
- 40:27Speaker 1: could be again this year.
- 40:28Speaker 4: I think we personally, I agree with most of it.
- 40:31Speaker 4: I think there might be a slight step back, but
- 40:34Speaker 4: this group feels more athletic, just agree. I mean, Tyan
- 40:38Speaker 4: Nash are big and strong, but this group feels more millions,
- 40:43Speaker 4: more athletic, more agile, a little quicker. So what they
- 40:48Speaker 4: lack in size they might make up with speed.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Which.
- 40:54Speaker 6: Which might be better because with three three five, I
- 41:00Speaker 6: feel like you need he like one good run stopper
- 41:05Speaker 6: in the middle, and then your two mens need to
- 41:06Speaker 6: be pretty quick around the corner.
- 41:08Speaker 3: I feel like so at least they, I mean, they
- 41:11Speaker 3: lost a law.
- 41:12Speaker 6: On defense from last year going losing with Tony, but
- 41:15Speaker 6: what you're gonna expect but from the portal what they got.
- 41:17Speaker 6: I think they did a very good job of re
- 41:20Speaker 6: upping their D line the best you can when you
- 41:22Speaker 6: when you lose all that, and ty Ty is gonna
- 41:24Speaker 6: be the biggest loss on your team, I think by far.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and he he was your versatile defensive
- 41:33Speaker 1: lineman that you know could play No's but most of
- 41:35Speaker 1: time that was Nash and and you know Tyle was
- 41:37Speaker 1: one of your ends. But you know, power, power rusher.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I guess if if you want to describe him as that,
- 41:44Speaker 1: I think that he's gonna be a big piece to fill.
- 41:50Speaker 1: But I think we have the guys that can step
- 41:52Speaker 1: in and do that, guys that played significant minutes for
- 41:54Speaker 1: US linebackers position last year that I think we were
- 42:01Speaker 1: a little concerned about.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I thought.
- 42:04Speaker 4: I just think we all said it was our weakest
- 42:07Speaker 4: position if I remember correctly.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I ended up being that terrible.
- 42:11Speaker 1: But I thought, but I thought showed the most improvement
- 42:14Speaker 1: throughout the year. I think we are very concerned. You know,
- 42:17Speaker 1: guys are gonna be seeing this yere. You havevin right,
- 42:21Speaker 1: Vincent Shavers, Willis mcgaye, he's now a sophomore, and then
- 42:25Speaker 1: Dessaun McColl at you know he's going to be a starter.
- 42:27Speaker 1: The oh you transferred, thank you sooners. He's gonna be
- 42:31Speaker 1: I think, pretty versatile. I'm not sure where exactly I'll
- 42:33Speaker 1: end up. You know, this site's got him at the
- 42:35Speaker 1: jack uh Andrew Marshall the transfer from Idaho.
- 42:46Speaker 2: I guess that's cornerback. Pause on that.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Marqise Trent Watson's coming from Georgia Southern at linebacker as well.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Then we have some young guys as well there Jacob Bowers.
- 42:58Speaker 4: He was mentioned by Rule and some about this guy's
- 43:01Speaker 4: gonna get some serious playing time.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So this list is probably not comprehensive because it
- 43:07Speaker 1: was missing Rocko Spindler as well, so there's probably there
- 43:11Speaker 1: could be some guys were missing as well.
- 43:13Speaker 2: But I don't know. I'm going to this year like
- 43:16Speaker 2: feeling okay, like not great.
- 43:17Speaker 5: But really I feel pretty good about it.
- 43:20Speaker 4: I mean, like I said, last year, we didn't feel good,
- 43:22Speaker 4: but I feel like most because who were missing a Bullock?
- 43:29Speaker 5: Outside of that, I mean, who's the big loss?
- 43:32Speaker 3: I don't. I don't not much.
- 43:36Speaker 4: And you think then mccoles can probably fill the Bullock void,
- 43:38Speaker 4: and you may give another year for everyone to develop.
- 43:41Speaker 4: But I feel like Willis McGahee showed some real, you know,
- 43:44Speaker 4: some real zip last year that we really liked. And
- 43:46Speaker 4: Vincent Shaver's some good and having right, you know, I
- 43:50Speaker 4: think he's probably my least favorite of the of like
- 43:52Speaker 4: the notable bunch, But I don't know, I feel I
- 43:55Speaker 4: actually feel pretty good about this group.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I just want to say mc coola to play really
- 43:58Speaker 2: well so we can go laughing deck space.
- 44:01Speaker 6: But well, it's the thing with Sucks in the spring
- 44:06Speaker 6: game is you have you have a whole now defense,
- 44:08Speaker 6: so you have we have no idea what they're gonna
- 44:09Speaker 6: look like, who's starting or anything, especially linebacker. You there's
- 44:13Speaker 6: so many of them, my red that could play. You
- 44:15Speaker 6: we know no clue who's gonna who number one is
- 44:17Speaker 6: or anything.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Yeah, like Coola juice, you know, everyone can start. We're
- 44:24Speaker 5: the freaking deepest team in the nation.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It's already starting up. Where have you been?
- 44:31Speaker 2: Like I just told you, we won that off season, Natty,
- 44:33Speaker 2: we got it done. Secondary another.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Spot where we see some guys potentially moving around, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 1: your corners. Andrew Marshall mentioning from Idaho, uh black Hill,
- 44:46Speaker 1: see her right, We expect to start there on. On
- 44:49Speaker 1: the one side, you know, Jeremiah Charles has had some
- 44:52Speaker 1: nice call outs. Donovan Jones, a freshman coming in the
- 44:56Speaker 1: Red shirt, Mark Sanders another one that you could see
- 44:59Speaker 1: out there. Uh, some of those guys at corner. And
- 45:02Speaker 1: then you know, moving on the inside, Deshaun Singleton. You
- 45:05Speaker 1: know what's gonna be one of, if not the leader back.
- 45:08Speaker 2: There for this group. Mario Bruford, Marmir Stewart another guy
- 45:13Speaker 2: that expect to see some time.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Justin Rhett Transfer from Georgia another guy that was a
- 45:21Speaker 1: big get that I.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Think we're gonna see some minutes there too.
- 45:25Speaker 1: So oh, and then I forgot to mention Marquis Buford
- 45:28Speaker 1: and Malcolm Harks, guys that have been around and played
- 45:30Speaker 1: for a long time.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Almost forgot about that again.
- 45:33Speaker 5: Are we excited to have Marquis Beford back. I don't know.
- 45:37Speaker 2: I think there's there's a lot of experience there. And again,
- 45:42Speaker 2: you gotta get a coach.
- 45:43Speaker 1: On the right.
- 45:46Speaker 6: I feel like any any experience as defense is good
- 45:49Speaker 6: to get back.
- 45:50Speaker 4: That's true. I don't think he's starting starting him, I
- 45:55Speaker 4: don't know. I was super impressed with him.
- 45:58Speaker 1: That that's set of the three three five. As we've
- 46:00Speaker 1: talked about, it's been very it's very versatile. You can
- 46:03Speaker 1: move a lot of pieces around. And you talk about
- 46:05Speaker 1: that jack position that Desa mccol is going to play,
- 46:08Speaker 1: that can get these guys can get flexed down, the
- 46:10Speaker 1: rover can get flexed down. You're gonna have a lot
- 46:13Speaker 1: of things that you know. It's not it's not a
- 46:15Speaker 1: three three five where you think three three five. It's
- 46:18Speaker 1: going to look different based on scouts and the opponents.
- 46:22Speaker 1: So again, is this a position that I feel better
- 46:27Speaker 1: probably on than others?
- 46:29Speaker 2: Probably?
- 46:30Speaker 5: Uh, I feel like defense. This is probably my least
- 46:34Speaker 5: favorite group.
- 46:36Speaker 1: And I would I would, I would have this be
- 46:38Speaker 1: second above linebackers. Still I But what's funny is I
- 46:41Speaker 1: still have all these I have all these. I think
- 46:44Speaker 1: the running backs and receivers are my two lowest his
- 46:46Speaker 1: question marks and unknowns as far as everybody.
- 46:49Speaker 3: But again, we don't know what what do we know?
- 46:51Speaker 2: We're making opinions off of nothing.
- 46:54Speaker 5: Nothing, nothing will bring back this game.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Uh, kickers, what do you what do we think? I
- 47:04Speaker 2: mean we lose bouschini bomb.
- 47:08Speaker 4: And then I mean we're transferring out left and right.
- 47:11Speaker 4: We've already had two kickers transfer out leaning in the
- 47:15Speaker 4: rugby style.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Yeah, leaning towards the Austria and Rugby.
- 47:18Speaker 5: Which, hey, isn't it Alex Hendry? Isn't that how you punted?
- 47:22Speaker 5: Alex Henry?
- 47:22Speaker 3: Uh? Yeah, well who was that guy?
- 47:27Speaker 2: Don't we are? Our punters have been. We've got some
- 47:32Speaker 2: really good.
- 47:32Speaker 5: Ones, Yeah we have. It was really good.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Rugby punting is kind of faded away, hasn't it. It's
- 47:40Speaker 1: not gone, but it's kind of faded. I don't I'm
- 47:45Speaker 1: curious how that's gonna work. You know, Tristan Alvano and
- 47:48Speaker 1: John Hole, those two are.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Both here right.
- 47:51Speaker 1: We know Nico Automanelli's in the portal. We just saw
- 47:54Speaker 1: that recently. We got Kevin Gaelic was our first transfer
- 47:59Speaker 1: portal this year, the long snapper like we were just
- 48:05Speaker 1: so like the whole were the whole operations Last year
- 48:10Speaker 1: was just.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Chaotic, to say the least. So, I don't know, I
- 48:18Speaker 2: think this group.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Is I mean, the most interesting thing in this group
- 48:22Speaker 5: is here's gonna kick? Is it gonna be?
- 48:24Speaker 4: John or Tristan was hurt all last year and before
- 48:27Speaker 4: that he had the yips. John started out poorly and
- 48:30Speaker 4: then somehow turned it around.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Here's my faith and trust, like Mike Eckler, Yes, please,
- 48:38Speaker 1: Like if I'm drinking any more kool Aid or any
- 48:43Speaker 1: kool aid at any part of this team, and I
- 48:45Speaker 1: try to stay away from the kool aid, like I
- 48:47Speaker 1: am drinking the Mike Eckler kool Aid. And I believe
- 48:51Speaker 1: that he will get this thing figured out. I don't
- 48:54Speaker 1: know why I feel that way, but I just have
- 48:55Speaker 1: a gut, like it's got it's got to get better,
- 48:58Speaker 1: and it's I'm not even gotta be a OP ten
- 49:00Speaker 1: Special Teams unit, but it's.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Got to get better, can't get worse. And I feel
- 49:05Speaker 2: like we have the right type of guy to do it.
- 49:09Speaker 1: He's got energy, he's got the experience, he's kind of,
- 49:14Speaker 1: I don't know, put a specialty in special teams right
- 49:17Speaker 1: Like he's he's had opportunities to move around to different positions,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I think, and he just said at one point in
- 49:23Speaker 1: his career, nope, like I'm gonna get really, really, really
- 49:25Speaker 1: freaking good at everything special Team's related.
- 49:29Speaker 2: And he's done that and proven that as past couple
- 49:31Speaker 2: of stops.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He's been to what what at like four twelve schools
- 49:35Speaker 1: in the last like fourteen or fifteen years, Like, yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 1: I trust him, like that's the kool aid. And I
- 49:41Speaker 1: think regardless of the players, if we don't have him,
- 49:43Speaker 1: he's gonna say, Okay, here's what we need to get.
- 49:47Speaker 3: So I have faith.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I have faith there more so than the players themselves.
- 49:52Speaker 1: And yeah, we got an enoughlong snapper ya, But I
- 49:54Speaker 1: think a lot of that's mental. Like we talked about that,
- 49:59Speaker 1: like it's repetition. It's doing it over and over and
- 50:02Speaker 1: feeling so that it's second nature. When it comes to
- 50:05Speaker 1: snapping the ball, that was not the case. It comes
- 50:07Speaker 1: to holding the ball, that also is not the case.
- 50:08Speaker 1: When it comes to making a twenty eight yard field goal,
- 50:13Speaker 1: all of those things, Like I feel like we can
- 50:16Speaker 1: get on the right track with Eckler as the coach.
- 50:21Speaker 5: I agree that's get for the special teams.
- 50:23Speaker 4: Was Eckler the coaches a good coach, which I mean
- 50:29Speaker 4: it was last year nothing.
- 50:31Speaker 1: And again, I don't like to drink the koog lad.
- 50:33Speaker 1: I don't like to believe in something I haven't seen,
- 50:35Speaker 1: hasn't proved. He's nothing to prove me. But I have
- 50:38Speaker 1: He's the one piece I have faith in, potentially because
- 50:41Speaker 1: it probably because it can't get worse, let's be real.
- 50:43Speaker 2: That's probably why I think that way.
- 50:46Speaker 6: We were talking why during the spring whatever you call
- 50:48Speaker 6: it games or whatever, why were they not just having
- 50:50Speaker 6: these guys just kick the whole time, do your other
- 50:53Speaker 6: crap off the side, and said, you guys kick in
- 50:54Speaker 6: the background the whole time.
- 50:55Speaker 5: A kicking contest would have been appreciated as a Husker fan.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but there might be a reason why they didn't
- 51:02Speaker 3: do that.
- 51:07Speaker 2: One other thing that I I just just came to mind.
- 51:13Speaker 1: As I talking about kickers in our one anomaly game
- 51:16Speaker 1: Ohio State where John Hole hits like three bomb kicks. Guys,
- 51:20Speaker 1: it's more I think about that, and every time I
- 51:22Speaker 1: get reminded, I don't think I jokingly said it. I
- 51:24Speaker 1: think right after the game that was like two weeks
- 51:28Speaker 1: after we got Brett Maher back to like consult I.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Think was in the pads.
- 51:35Speaker 1: That's that's probably my biggest darkest like conspiracy theory of
- 51:39Speaker 1: the of the last season is that, like, you know,
- 51:43Speaker 1: how he's especially a kicker, like they're all they're all
- 51:47Speaker 1: like that.
- 51:48Speaker 2: It would be so easy to throw on a Raindow
- 51:49Speaker 2: jersey like that.
- 51:51Speaker 1: That one game just doesn't make sense at all when
- 51:54Speaker 1: you like on the road top whatever they were a
- 51:56Speaker 1: top five team and the fifty yarders and drills one.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Like something does.
- 52:05Speaker 5: It was just a day, you know, just a moment.
- 52:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Well that's that's that's our preview. That's our spring football
- 52:16Speaker 2: wrap up. That's our.
- 52:19Speaker 5: Big takeaway. Bring back the game.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Yeah no, no spring game really put a killer on
- 52:24Speaker 3: this one.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Yeah, congratulations Alexi Rodriguez running that one big award and
- 52:33Speaker 4: I think one other husch Is baseball team's Bury Mid.
- 52:36Speaker 5: I watched this beat creaton though, so that was cool.
- 52:38Speaker 5: I went to the game with my wife and all
- 52:41Speaker 5: of her coworkers, and I sat in the with a
- 52:45Speaker 5: bunch of creating people, like I mean, it was it
- 52:47Speaker 5: was a creating section. It was me in the one
- 52:49Speaker 5: red shirt right in the middle. It was great.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Yeah we yeah, very I think we're five other teams
- 52:59Speaker 1: that get in the Big Ten tournament, which who knows,
- 53:04Speaker 1: maybe there's a is there a Crown Baseball version that
- 53:06Speaker 1: we can.
- 53:07Speaker 5: Get in and go, yeah, gear can we win.
- 53:11Speaker 1: One other football news that I saw today Andy Staples
- 53:15Speaker 1: and I actually held I think back on I think
- 53:16Speaker 1: maybe last year we craft the top twenty five as
- 53:19Speaker 1: well put out as post spring top twenty five rankings,
- 53:23Speaker 1: Nebraska twenty third. I'm pretty sure we were twenty five
- 53:27Speaker 1: last year, now that I think about that, I think
- 53:29Speaker 1: I remember having the same conversation and we're like, yep,
- 53:33Speaker 1: there it.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Is put down to the date. Every year we had
- 53:38Speaker 3: the same conversation.
- 53:41Speaker 2: Iowa was twenty five. This year we were ahead of Iowa.
- 53:44Speaker 2: There you go, hang that band.
- 53:50Speaker 3: At least at least you know going in next year.
- 53:52Speaker 3: You don't get me an Iowa fan watching them.
- 53:55Speaker 5: They're gonna be good next year. I don't know why.
- 53:57Speaker 5: I don't know why. People.
- 54:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I was never not gonna be decent. Also, while
- 54:04Speaker 4: we're shopping on other teams, should what a moment? I
- 54:09Speaker 4: really enjoyed it. Retired as Jersey went in the fifth
- 54:14Speaker 4: round the next day.
- 54:17Speaker 5: Great moment that.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah the Browns quarterbacker and hell yeah, get get me,
- 54:24Speaker 1: get me live footage in that thing.
- 54:26Speaker 5: Who is it?
- 54:27Speaker 2: It's Flacco?
- 54:29Speaker 3: My boy?
- 54:31Speaker 2: Dylan should come on?
- 54:36Speaker 5: Yes please?
- 54:37Speaker 6: Who would have thought Dylan Gabriel if you would had
- 54:40Speaker 6: odds doing the last season like being last year that
- 54:42Speaker 6: Dylan cab Be drafted above Shador. I don't know what
- 54:46Speaker 6: you could have got that is, but a week ago,
- 54:49Speaker 6: like Crew, I didn't even know if Dylan Gabe was
- 54:51Speaker 6: gonna get drafted.
- 54:54Speaker 3: But it must be just that good.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that was kind of fun to see, you know what.
- 54:59Speaker 1: I think that's a it's a very telltale sign of
- 55:02Speaker 1: the difference between college athletics and pro sports, even though
- 55:06Speaker 1: college athletics is moving in that direction in several ways.
- 55:10Speaker 1: That style, that attitude that in college gets you a
- 55:16Speaker 1: bunch of eighteen year olds to get so excited and
- 55:19Speaker 1: love you and and aren't annoyed by you because they're
- 55:24Speaker 1: in awe by it.
- 55:25Speaker 2: The pros uh uh like that glamor very different take
- 55:32Speaker 2: on it.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And I think that was the And Dion was a
- 55:36Speaker 1: special type of person in the pros because his play
- 55:41Speaker 1: started before his prime time name right, I think that
- 55:49Speaker 1: was an eye opener to them as like, what what
- 55:51Speaker 1: what has happened? No, this is the pros, this is
- 55:53Speaker 1: the big leagues, Like, you don't act like that, you
- 55:56Speaker 1: have a special you need you need to prove yourself
- 55:59Speaker 1: before and the guy that's not the case in college.
- 56:03Speaker 1: That's still it's still and that's not going to change
- 56:05Speaker 1: here for a long time. Still, I don't think that
- 56:08Speaker 1: difference between college and pro sports.
- 56:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I just man, Yeah, they retired his number. The
- 56:18Speaker 4: man only what they won eight games last year?
- 56:22Speaker 3: Maybe yep.
- 56:24Speaker 1: One of the best sweets of the weekend was what
- 56:27Speaker 1: if he's got to go back and he's got to wear.
- 56:29Speaker 3: A new number.
- 56:30Speaker 5: We're a new number.
- 56:32Speaker 2: One of the months.
- 56:36Speaker 5: A great I love it. Good job Colorado, keep the word.
- 56:40Speaker 2: And that's how we ends season six.
- 56:42Speaker 5: Just ship.
- 56:47Speaker 2: All right, Well, yeah, we'll go back in months, a
- 56:49Speaker 2: few months preview the fall season. First game Cincinnati Thursday.
- 56:55Speaker 4: I'll be fifteen pounds lighter, tanner, you know, maybe a
- 56:59Speaker 4: little taller.
- 57:00Speaker 5: Who knows a few months will do.
- 57:02Speaker 3: We all can hope.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Dak's gotta put muscle on. He's gotta get you, gotta
- 57:06Speaker 2: put on the weight.
- 57:07Speaker 3: YEP, cutting seasons over.
