- 0:03Speaker 1: When I invited you here I thought I made myself
- 0:14Speaker 1: perfectly clear When you're a guest in my home.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You gotta come to me empty-handed I said no gifts,
- 0:27Speaker 2: your presence is presence enough And I already had too
- 0:33Speaker 2: much stuff So how do you dare disobey me?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Welcome to I Said No Gifts. I'm Bridger Weiniger. I
- 0:54Speaker 3: made it here. I finally treated myself to having the
- 0:58Speaker 3: nail removed from my tire after two weeks. This is
- 1:01Speaker 3: the second nail I've had in a tire in less
- 1:04Speaker 3: than a year. Is that normal? Who's being so careless
- 1:11Speaker 3: with nails? I don't even understand how they're making it
- 1:13Speaker 3: into the street. You don't see anybody with a nail.
- 1:18Speaker 3: And then they're just in the street.
- 1:20Speaker 4: They can't– I can talk.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Well, I mean you shouldn't, but you can– I mean
- 1:24Speaker 3: if you've got– hold it, Joe.
- 1:26Speaker 4: OK, great.
- 1:26Speaker 3: The guest is trying to break in to my problems.
- 1:29Speaker 4: And I've listened to the episode too. That's how– that
- 1:32Speaker 4: shows you my– where I'm at with my comprehension retention
- 1:36Speaker 4: skills right now. I thought I was doing you– I
- 1:39Speaker 4: thought I was waiting too long. I was like, boy,
- 1:41Speaker 4: he's waiting. I'm sitting here not saying anything. Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Get out of here. I mean, not that I have anything.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm trying to see if I even have anything that
- 1:51Speaker 3: needs to be said.
- 1:52Speaker 1: No, I.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Don't think so. It's just another episode, another disgusting cash grab.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I'm just waiting for somebody to intervene and fix my personality.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's gone on too long. I'm tired. So somebody step
- 2:13Speaker 3: into my life. Fix it. Patreon.com slash I said no gifts.
- 2:20Speaker 3: That's the URL that you want to go to. That's
- 2:23Speaker 3: the website that's going to change everything for you. Come over, subscribe,
- 2:28Speaker 3: get more of this. And I think that's everything. I mean, nothing, yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 3: everything's perfect. Let's get into the episode. I love today's guest.
- 2:41Speaker 3: He's already just part of the show.
- 2:44Speaker 4: It's Joe Rengert. It's me.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It's me.
- 2:46Speaker 4: You guys knew that because I can't keep my big
- 2:48Speaker 4: stupid mouth shut.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Have you had a nail in your tire?
- 2:52Speaker 4: Well, yes, I have. And I've had two tire pressure
- 2:58Speaker 4: alerts recently. And I get very stressed out by anything
- 3:02Speaker 4: related to my car. If a mechanic was able to
- 3:06Speaker 4: appear in the passenger seat and chart and offer me
- 3:09Speaker 4: any amount of money when one of those things comes
- 3:12Speaker 4: on in my dashboard, I'm going to pay him it.
- 3:14Speaker 4: And a tire pressure alert came on the other day,
- 3:17Speaker 4: and I was like, I ought to be able to
- 3:19Speaker 4: handle this. I ought to be able to go into
- 3:21Speaker 4: the gas station and pay the $ 2 for the air thing.
- 3:25Speaker 4: But I was still very nervous, but I did it.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And it was for my left front tire. It was
- 3:31Speaker 4: at 29. I put it up to 32. It was
- 3:34Speaker 4: supposed to be at 31, but I wasn't getting an
- 3:36Speaker 4: alert on 32. So I felt good about that. I
- 3:39Speaker 4: felt very accomplished. Then I felt very annoyed earlier this
- 3:42Speaker 4: week when– The right front tire went off. The right now.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Can you guys get it together and do it at
- 3:47Speaker 4: the same time? Please.
- 3:51Speaker 3: That's so odd. I mean, my story is going to
- 3:53Speaker 3: give you a heart attack. I'm supposed to be at 39.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I got down to 29. I was driving on the
- 3:57Speaker 3: freeway on this thing.
- 3:58Speaker 4: What are you doing? For two weeks. Oh, my God.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I just couldn't bring myself to like spend the 45
- 4:03Speaker 3: minutes at the tire place. But I kept going to
- 4:05Speaker 3: the tire place for them to fill it up because
- 4:07Speaker 3: naturally I don't even– I don't have a tire pressure
- 4:09Speaker 3: gauge in my car. So– Who does?
- 4:11Speaker 4: Who does?
- 4:12Speaker 3: I think you should.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Are we supposed to?
- 4:14Speaker 3: My fear is I'm going to go to the air
- 4:15Speaker 3: machine at the gas station, which when I went, I
- 4:17Speaker 3: did try and it was $ 3. I said, no way.
- 4:20Speaker 4: You got to come over to Eagle Rock. We got
- 4:24Speaker 4: $ 2 in Eagle Rock.
- 4:26Speaker 3: My problem was stopping at one in Pasadena, of course,
- 4:28Speaker 3: charging an extra dollar over there. But I kept going.
- 4:31Speaker 4: What year is your car?
- 4:33Speaker 3: I got it last year. Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 4: So it should– doesn't it have the automatic? We don't
- 4:37Speaker 4: need the– we don't need the gauge.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Well, but like when you're like spraying the air into
- 4:40Speaker 3: the thing.
- 4:41Speaker 4: They have it attached.
- 4:42Speaker 3: It's on there.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Yeah. And listen, I'm talking about this like I'm some expert. No.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I was pulling in being like, how am I going
- 4:50Speaker 4: to know? I guess I'm going to have to just
- 4:53Speaker 4: keep restarting the car. That's what I thought. I figured
- 4:56Speaker 4: it out. No, it's on there. A little like– a
- 4:57Speaker 4: little like– piece spits out.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Oh, like the little plastic thing.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Like a little ruler spits out. See, I was taught.
- 5:06Speaker 4: This is metal. Don't go to one where it's plastic.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Get yourself to one where it's metal. One that could
- 5:12Speaker 4: easily break. That seems more official to me.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I was taught that you need to have the
- 5:16Speaker 3: gauge in your car because you're going to be doing
- 5:18Speaker 3: it all on your own. So I pulled up to
- 5:19Speaker 3: this thing that was $ 3 and said, no way. And
- 5:22Speaker 3: because I was thinking I'm going to spend $ 3 and
- 5:25Speaker 3: I'm not going to know how much pressure's in the tire.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So what's the point? I'm probably going to let more
- 5:29Speaker 3: air out of the tire.
- 5:30Speaker 4: And you don't want to be– you can't get too
- 5:32Speaker 4: full or too– like you were too full. You may
- 5:35Speaker 4: have kicked off sort of a final– low stakes final
- 5:38Speaker 4: destination situation for yourself.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, no.
- 5:40Speaker 4: What I'm saying– You cheated death and death is keeping
- 5:42Speaker 4: track of all of that stuff if those movies are
- 5:44Speaker 4: to be believed.
- 5:45Speaker 3: What I'm saying is it was supposed to be at
- 5:47Speaker 3: 39 and it was at 29. With no alert? It
- 5:51Speaker 3: was essentially flat. No, the car was begging me. Oh, yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 3: The car, every time I started it, please.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Get this worked out. But the reason I'm so lazy
- 6:01Speaker 3: about it is because I have found that tire store
- 6:04Speaker 3: employees are so wonderful. They're always so nice and so
- 6:08Speaker 3: happy to fill up the tire that I'm just like,
- 6:10Speaker 3: why not just do it constantly? Until the point of,
- 6:12Speaker 3: I was like, oh, they're starting to recognize me.
- 6:15Speaker 4: They definitely recognize me at my local tire store, Mountain
- 6:19Speaker 4: View Tire. That's mine. I'm going to give them a
- 6:21Speaker 4: shout out here. Oh, yeah. So you're also on the
- 6:22Speaker 4: east side.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:23Speaker 4: That is at the very end of the street on
- 6:26Speaker 4: which I live.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Oh, you're really giving yourself away here. People start combing
- 6:30Speaker 3: the area.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Come at me. Come for me. Who cares? We're talking
- 6:34Speaker 4: about passwords before. I don't change my password because I'm like,
- 6:37Speaker 4: my data sucks, man. Who wants my data? But I've
- 6:41Speaker 4: had like a couple of like, you know, A flat
- 6:44Speaker 4: tire close enough to home where I'm like, I'm just
- 6:47Speaker 4: going to get to home because it's right there. And
- 6:52Speaker 4: in fact, one time I had AAA had to tow
- 6:55Speaker 4: my car in and they towed it into the one
- 6:59Speaker 4: that's at the bottom of my street, which is like
- 7:01Speaker 4: kind of embarrassing.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 3: That's a little– I've driven from my house in Highland
- 7:05Speaker 3: Park with a fully flat tire to that tire place,
- 7:08Speaker 3: which was.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Probably– I just have my dad in my head saying
- 7:13Speaker 4: you're going to ruin the rims. Of course. I think
- 7:16Speaker 4: it's supposed to be really bad for you. But I've
- 7:18Speaker 4: gotten away with it.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It worked out for me.
- 7:21Speaker 4: I've had a lot of tire issues over the past
- 7:24Speaker 4: three years because I got 2023 Prius, which is a
- 7:27Speaker 4: great Prius because this was their idea for the 2023 Prius.
- 7:31Speaker 4: What if we made it look like Tesla? And that's
- 7:35Speaker 4: all it is. Oh, interesting. I've never had a car
- 7:38Speaker 4: like this. For years and years and years, I had
- 7:41Speaker 4: a Plymouth Reliant that the driver's side door didn't open.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I would have to crawl in on the passenger side.
- 7:47Speaker 4: It was like an old government car, like a K car.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Then I didn't drive when I lived in New York.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And then when I moved here, I had a Toyota Yaris,
- 7:54Speaker 4: which was like those are nothing.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I know who owns that.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Oh, you do. Brad Evans. Oh, yes. Yes. I love
- 8:00Speaker 4: that it's still in service.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I give names to my cars. I didn't for most
- 8:06Speaker 4: of my life. But then when I met my wife, Holly,
- 8:09Speaker 4: she names her cars after her driving instructor. And I
- 8:14Speaker 4: was like, I like that. And when I lived in
- 8:17Speaker 4: New York, I decided I was never going to have
- 8:20Speaker 4: to drive ever again. I was always going to live
- 8:22Speaker 4: in a city with a mass transportation system. Then I
- 8:25Speaker 4: had to move to LA because Hollywood was begging me
- 8:28Speaker 4: to come here and share my gift. So I was like,
- 8:33Speaker 4: I've forgotten how to drive. And I signed up for
- 8:36Speaker 4: driving lessons in Queens. I found a guy. I got
- 8:40Speaker 4: like a pack of like five lessons. And then he
- 8:42Speaker 4: drives you to the DMV for your exam.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Oh, that's kind of luxurious.
- 8:48Speaker 4: It was very nice. And the guy I was studying
- 8:52Speaker 4: with was named Mohammed. And he drove to my house
- 8:54Speaker 4: for my first lesson. And we get in the car
- 8:57Speaker 4: and as soon as I get behind the wheel, it
- 8:59Speaker 4: all comes back. I know how to drive.
- 9:01Speaker 3: How long– what time period had it been since you
- 9:03Speaker 3: hadn't driven?
- 9:04Speaker 4: I was– it had been seven years. But before that,
- 9:08Speaker 4: I drove for five years. Right. So that's in there.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It's in there.
- 9:12Speaker 4: But I'm just a nervous person, Bridger. And I'm like
- 9:15Speaker 4: what if I've forgotten something? And I used to always
- 9:17Speaker 4: have a lot more driving anxiety. So we were going
- 9:20Speaker 4: and he's going through all the basics and I like
- 9:23Speaker 4: know how to do it. And at the end of
- 9:25Speaker 4: the lesson, he was like, Joe, you are a very
- 9:28Speaker 4: good driver. But I had the five pack already. So
- 9:32Speaker 4: he was like, what do you want to do? And
- 9:35Speaker 4: I still did the other lessons.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Did you like sharpen your skills?
- 9:38Speaker 4: No, not really. But I would just like have an
- 9:41Speaker 4: hour with this guy and I would just drive him around.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Just running errands?
- 9:47Speaker 4: Yeah. Or just like, you know, and it's like, whatever,
- 9:50Speaker 4: we're driving. And, you know, there was a little bit
- 9:53Speaker 4: of like, I would try to be like, can we
- 9:55Speaker 4: go on the highway? Can we do stuff like, can
- 9:57Speaker 4: we go into Manhattan? Like, it's scary. That would be valuable.
- 9:59Speaker 4: I'm challenging myself a little bit more. But every lesson,
- 10:03Speaker 4: it was still just Muhammad being like, you're a very
- 10:06Speaker 4: good driver.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Did you go into Manhattan?
- 10:08Speaker 4: I did.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Terrifying.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You know what? It seems I think it seems scarier
- 10:13Speaker 4: when you live there as a pedestrian for a long
- 10:16Speaker 4: time because you're seeing the people really almost kill you constantly.
- 10:22Speaker 4: But I didn't find it that bad. I think it's
- 10:25Speaker 4: scarier now that city bikes are such a big thing.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Because I just I turn I like turn into everybody's
- 10:33Speaker 4: mom and I'm like, nobody ever has a helmet on.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Especially in New York.
- 10:37Speaker 4: It's really odd.
- 10:39Speaker 3: It's very strange to me because I felt like my
- 10:41Speaker 3: entire childhood I did not wear a helmet. I then
- 10:43Speaker 3: had the realization as an adult I could have been
- 10:45Speaker 3: killed countless times. Yeah. And it seemed like everyone was
- 10:48Speaker 3: on the same page. And now, at least within New York,
- 10:51Speaker 3: people are just buzzing around without helmets on.
- 10:53Speaker 4: They should have a helmet that comes with it. And look,
- 10:56Speaker 4: I know you're asking for trouble. I know you're asking
- 11:00Speaker 4: for lice or something with the helmet. I'm sorry. Then that's–
- 11:04Speaker 4: I don't know. I think I would take the risk
- 11:05Speaker 4: rather than– I don't want to be brain dead.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I wonder– I feel like there's so much plastic in
- 11:11Speaker 3: a bicycle helmet. It doesn't feel like a lice territory
- 11:14Speaker 3: to me. Lice is like it's on the back of
- 11:17Speaker 3: a gorgeous like movie theater seat, fabric.
- 11:20Speaker 4: They want more– yeah, they want something to munch on.
- 11:22Speaker 3: To hang on to, right.
- 11:24Speaker 4: But there's– what could– but you could get something from
- 11:26Speaker 4: a shared bike helmet.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Some sort of rash?
- 11:28Speaker 4: I don't know. People's hair is going in there. I
- 11:31Speaker 4: think the lice is getting up into the helmet. And
- 11:33Speaker 4: then when you're putting it on, they're like, we've been
- 11:36Speaker 4: starved now.
- 11:38Speaker 3: They're even more active.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Whatever the fuck lice was.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Just absolutely drill into your skull.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Have you ever ridden in Mohammed? Brad has Mohammed.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Oh, you didn't tell me that the car had been
- 11:50Speaker 3: named Mohammed.
- 11:51Speaker 4: That was the long-winded story I was getting to. But
- 11:54Speaker 4: I was sad when I was finally going to get
- 11:55Speaker 4: rid of it. For a long time, I was going
- 11:57Speaker 4: to save it and like, Make my daughter drive it,
- 11:59Speaker 4: which would be in like the year 2037, which is insane.
- 12:03Speaker 4: But then when he came back from New York, somebody
- 12:06Speaker 4: had told him that I had a shitty old guard
- 12:09Speaker 4: that I wasn't using. And so I gave it to him.
- 12:13Speaker 4: We did like 50 bucks or something. But now when
- 12:16Speaker 4: I see him at a party, he will be– I'm
- 12:19Speaker 4: always like, how's Muhammad? And he's like, it was full
- 12:21Speaker 4: of gay dudes the other night. And I'm like, I
- 12:23Speaker 4: love this.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I've never been in it.
- 12:25Speaker 4: New chapter for Muhammad's life.
- 12:26Speaker 3: He seems to be taking care of it. And a
- 12:28Speaker 3: Toyota will run for 100 years. Those cars go forever.
- 12:32Speaker 4: That's why I went for the Toyota and that's why
- 12:34Speaker 4: I'm in one again now. But the 2023 Prius has–
- 12:40Speaker 4: it's very low to the ground and it's a very
- 12:42Speaker 4: thin tire. So I've popped a lot of tires on
- 12:45Speaker 4: this thing. One time I was just backing up doing
- 12:48Speaker 4: a three-point turn in a cul-de-sac and I just lightly
- 12:51Speaker 4: bumped just the curb of the tire. That feels wrong. Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I also feel like how have we not just figured out–
- 12:59Speaker 3: I feel like there's got to be within reach technology
- 13:03Speaker 3: for something to cover a wheel that doesn't pop.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 3: It just doesn't feel like scientifically that should be that
- 13:10Speaker 3: difficult to figure out. Yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 4: They have it and it's in a locked safe somewhere
- 13:15Speaker 4: at Tire Inc. Because the tire companies don't want that.
- 13:21Speaker 4: They want that. They want us on these ticking time
- 13:24Speaker 4: bombs so that the revenue keeps coming in. Open your eyes.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Well, I think we should talk about something else or
- 13:33Speaker 3: something we need to get into.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:35Speaker 3: I wasn't looking forward to this at all. But the
- 13:40Speaker 3: podcast has always said no gifts.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You know, you haven't been on the show before, but
- 13:45Speaker 3: we know each other. We've spent a decent amount of
- 13:48Speaker 3: time together. I figured you'd be able to just figure
- 13:50Speaker 3: it out.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 3: But you wandered in here today holding a gift.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I did. Is this for me? This is for you.
- 13:58Speaker 4: You were so clear about it.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I love this bag.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Gah. Where did this come from? From my wife's. I
- 14:05Speaker 4: almost said from my wife's bedroom, which is also my bedroom.
- 14:11Speaker 4: But my brain was like from Holly's room. And that
- 14:14Speaker 4: is because she has slowly, slowly taken like most of
- 14:18Speaker 4: it is just hers. I get to sleep in there
- 14:22Speaker 4: and our closet. I have half of the closet. And
- 14:27Speaker 4: my half of the closet, there's like a wall where
- 14:31Speaker 4: I really have to like reach into my pants to
- 14:33Speaker 4: get to my pants. I can't like see all my
- 14:35Speaker 4: pants easily with the amount of closet that I have left.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And the rest is her clothing.
- 14:40Speaker 4: And the rest is all hers. She's a real clothes horse.
- 14:43Speaker 4: She's a very fashionable woman, and she has to have
- 14:47Speaker 4: a lot of looks. And you've known me for a while.
- 14:49Speaker 4: I kind of am like I have a uniform. I'm
- 14:51Speaker 4: wearing the same thing every day. But a very stylish uniform.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Oh. I feel like you always look so classy.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Thank you. But this was on her. We have a
- 15:00Speaker 4: little couch. I'm giving out more details about my house.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Paint a picture. I shouldn't do this.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I know you have a driveway.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Our bedroom is in the front of the house. Okay.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And you can see the Target emblem from our window.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Not from our bed. But we have like it like
- 15:19Speaker 4: juts out and there's like windows there and we put
- 15:21Speaker 4: a little like sitting like a couch there that we
- 15:24Speaker 4: never really use except to just like Holly puts her
- 15:27Speaker 4: shit on there. But if we hired or just found
- 15:31Speaker 4: someone who wanted to watch us make love. The natural
- 15:35Speaker 4: place in our bedroom to do it would be the couch. Now,
- 15:38Speaker 4: this is not something we're into. It's not something we're
- 15:42Speaker 4: looking into. It's not something that I think there would
- 15:45Speaker 4: be a lot of takers for. But if we were
- 15:49Speaker 4: in that situation for whatever reason emotionally, we got the
- 15:52Speaker 4: setup for it right now because we got– it's a
- 15:54Speaker 4: great couch.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Anytime I see a couch in a bedroom, I'm like somebody–
- 15:58Speaker 3: they're just– it's a future use.
- 16:00Speaker 4: We are just putting stuff on it. We're just putting
- 16:03Speaker 4: bags on it. And that's why I needed a bag
- 16:06Speaker 4: and I took it and I was going to ask
- 16:09Speaker 4: what it meant and then I decided it's maybe more
- 16:12Speaker 4: interesting if I don't know what it means.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I think it's great. Gah.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Gah.
- 16:15Speaker 4: It means something.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd love that. Well, let's dive in here.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Pull this out. Oh, I'd love to see some tissue. Okay,
- 16:27Speaker 3: there are two objects.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I got two.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Should I open them in any order?
- 16:29Speaker 4: In my family, we like to do one real one,
- 16:32Speaker 4: one gag. Oh, that's a good idea. So one of
- 16:33Speaker 4: them's a real one and one of them's a gagger.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Which one should I open first?
- 16:37Speaker 4: I don't get it.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Okay, there's a soft one here.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Got the tissue going here.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I feel so terrible about this. I hate presents. I
- 16:46Speaker 4: hate giving presents. Oh, my God.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Well, this is a great shirt.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Now, I think of you, Bridger, as the king of
- 16:55Speaker 4: great shirts.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Oh, that's very nice.
- 16:57Speaker 4: So I went to Bridge Thrift in Glassell Park.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Oh, I love Bridge Thrift.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Right by Bub and Grandma's. And I went, there's no
- 17:05Speaker 4: way I'm going to get a good shirt from here, but.
- 17:07Speaker 4: I thought this was a pretty good shirt. If you
- 17:09Speaker 4: don't wear it on a weekly basis, I'll be hurt.
- 17:15Speaker 4: It's adorable.
- 17:16Speaker 3: It says it's got a little drawing on it of
- 17:18Speaker 3: a man kind of looking at a brown egg, let's
- 17:20Speaker 3: be honest. I actually have no idea what he's doing,
- 17:25Speaker 3: but there's a cactus.
- 17:27Speaker 4: There's a real world happening here. And my feeling with
- 17:31Speaker 4: this illustration is I think it was– started off as a,
- 17:36Speaker 4: can you spot what's wrong with this picture? And then
- 17:39Speaker 4: they recycled it for this. Because it says, play with
- 17:45Speaker 4: soil underneath. And what he, I guess, is holding is soil.
- 17:50Speaker 4: But no, it looks like brown egg or brown rock.
- 17:54Speaker 4: It should be a handful. And I get that it's
- 17:57Speaker 4: hard to draw dirt. But it's too solid of a
- 18:01Speaker 4: mass of dirt.
- 18:02Speaker 3: It should have had a little... squiggle on it or something.
- 18:04Speaker 4: It could, even if you just like split it up,
- 18:07Speaker 4: like look at this guy over here by the cactus.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:11Speaker 4: That looks like dirt. They've put some dots there to
- 18:15Speaker 4: make it feel more like dirt. But he's inspecting it
- 18:18Speaker 4: with a magnifying glass. It looks like he's putting a
- 18:21Speaker 4: noose over his head. And he's going fully through it.
- 18:25Speaker 4: And that's the sick, twisted mind of Bridger. I did not...
- 18:30Speaker 4: think of it that way but it does look like
- 18:32Speaker 4: and it looks like he's going to like he's at
- 18:35Speaker 4: the end right he's made this dark decision but he's
- 18:38Speaker 4: like god damn it i made it it's too small
- 18:41Speaker 4: for my big stupid.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Of course i made my news too small.
- 18:45Speaker 4: This is why i'm doing this and i've got to
- 18:47Speaker 4: redo it.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Now But I guess that's a magnifying glass.
- 18:55Speaker 4: It's got– I mean I don't know. It says play
- 18:57Speaker 4: with soil. It doesn't say study soil or inspect the soil.
- 19:05Speaker 4: It says play with soil. So another possibility is that
- 19:10Speaker 4: he's going to maybe– Could it be a leash of
- 19:16Speaker 4: some sort and he's going to wrap it around this
- 19:19Speaker 4: clump of dirt and then the clump of dirt is
- 19:21Speaker 4: his friend? Is this terrible for a podcast? No, I
- 19:25Speaker 4: love this. There's videos too, right? There's cameras.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Listener, if you want to see, naturally what you'll have
- 19:31Speaker 3: to do is migrate over to the video.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 4: But it's for Earth Day 2020.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I wonder what part of 2020 that fell on.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Well, it's always in April, right? Is it always? I
- 19:45Speaker 4: think it's always April 15th. Okay, wow. Is that taxable?
- 19:50Speaker 2: Day?
- 19:50Speaker 3: That's tax day. Earth Day, April 22nd.
- 19:55Speaker 4: April 22nd.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yeah, a week after tax day. So this is probably
- 20:01Speaker 3: an interesting Earth Day for people.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Yeah. That was– we were in lockdown then at that point, right? Oh, yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yes, about– A month into it.
- 20:11Speaker 4: It was post Tom Hanks. There was one basketball player
- 20:17Speaker 4: who licked the microphone or something. Rudy Gobert licked a
- 20:20Speaker 4: microphone being like, this isn't real. And like he licked
- 20:24Speaker 4: a bunch of microphones and then he got it. If
- 20:28Speaker 4: he had died, that would have been so crazy. It
- 20:31Speaker 4: like that. I remember we were still working at that
- 20:35Speaker 4: point at Big Mouth. And that day was such a
- 20:38Speaker 4: chilling day. And at the beginning of that week, one
- 20:41Speaker 4: of the writer's assistants had a birthday. And that show
- 20:45Speaker 4: went for many seasons. So we had done so many
- 20:47Speaker 4: birthdays at a certain point. So this writer's assistant was like,
- 20:51Speaker 4: instead of just the same cookies or donuts or whatever
- 20:54Speaker 4: we get. We had cold cuts. So we're all just
- 20:58Speaker 4: sitting there. And this is an exaggeration, but we're grabbing
- 21:01Speaker 4: with our bare hands cold cuts. And there's just like
- 21:03Speaker 4: a pile of loose meat that we're all eating. And
- 21:07Speaker 4: then two days later, I remember one of the people
- 21:10Speaker 4: in charge was like, we're going to start having Kelsey
- 21:13Speaker 4: spray down the doorknob every day. Anytime anybody uses a doorknob,
- 21:18Speaker 4: it's going to be disinfected.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that's weird that you have a meat-related memory to
- 21:23Speaker 3: that period too because the office I was working in,
- 21:26Speaker 3: I still think about the turkey jerky that I left
- 21:28Speaker 3: on the table.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Just drove home.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Oh, and then just like you came back and it
- 21:32Speaker 4: had like a layer of dust.
- 21:33Speaker 3: We never went back to that office.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 21:36Speaker 3: So– and I'm sure it wasn't cleaned out for a
- 21:38Speaker 3: long time.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 3: At least for probably a couple of months. They probably
- 21:41Speaker 3: didn't send anybody in there. So there's probably just meat
- 21:43Speaker 3: on the table.
- 21:44Speaker 4: We never went back to that writer's room. We were
- 21:47Speaker 4: in a writer's room in Hollywood and– I had gone
- 21:51Speaker 4: back there for like they would have parties there sometimes
- 21:54Speaker 4: because it was one of Titmouse's main studios. So I
- 21:57Speaker 4: remember like eventually people going in to get like whatever
- 22:02Speaker 4: stuff like if you left a like sweatshirt or whatever.
- 22:05Speaker 4: And it did feel very like going to the city
- 22:07Speaker 4: of Pompeii or something where like everything was exactly what
- 22:11Speaker 4: it was. It was all dusty and crazy.
- 22:14Speaker 3: It's– I'll never get over how– I mean it's been
- 22:18Speaker 3: six years since that happened. It just feels so fresh
- 22:22Speaker 3: still to me. Well, then everything became 20 percent worse afterwards.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So you're just constantly reminded.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I'd be more worried about you if you didn't think
- 22:30Speaker 4: about it still. If you were like, what? What was
- 22:35Speaker 4: happening in 2020? No, keep talking.
- 22:38Speaker 3: This is starting to sound familiar. No, I love this shirt.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Let's see what the back says.
- 22:44Speaker 4: There's a bunch of truly insane looking thing on the
- 22:47Speaker 4: back that I didn't even really fully read or process.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I'm going to read it and maybe someone can put
- 22:53Speaker 3: this together. It says climate, this is a list, the
- 22:57Speaker 3: shape of the earth, rocks, erosion, plants, animals, tiny things
- 23:00Speaker 3: like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, algae, viruses, nematode worms, earthworms, gases
- 23:07Speaker 3: such as nitrogen, oxygen, CO2, Atmospheric, methane, lots of water
- 23:12Speaker 3: and time. Oh, made dirt and dirt don't hurt.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Is that a concern? So this is a very– they're
- 23:21Speaker 4: an atheist.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Oh, another– this is how you sneak in your atheist
- 23:26Speaker 3: agenda on this Christian podcast.
- 23:28Speaker 4: God didn't make dirt. FYI, God didn't make dirt. This
- 23:33Speaker 4: is the stuff that made dirt.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Well, you're arguing with someone who– if God made one thing,
- 23:38Speaker 3: it was dirt. No, this is an interesting– I didn't
- 23:44Speaker 3: realize the dirt don't hurt. That feels like they're fighting something.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Like an agenda of somebody's.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Did you hear that when you were a kid? Dirt hurt.
- 23:52Speaker 4: God made dirt and dirt don't hurt.
- 23:53Speaker 3: No.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Is that a thing? That's a thing. That's like if
- 23:56Speaker 4: you drop your snack in some dirt and you're like,
- 23:59Speaker 4: I don't want it. I want to eat it. Like,
- 24:01Speaker 4: you know, and you and you have like a grandparent
- 24:04Speaker 4: who lived in the through the Great Depression or something.
- 24:07Speaker 4: And they don't want to take your dirty snack and
- 24:10Speaker 4: give you a fresh snack. They go. It's just a
- 24:13Speaker 4: little bit of dirt. Dirt. God made dirt and dirt
- 24:15Speaker 4: don't hurt. I definitely heard that.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 24:17Speaker 3: I've never heard that before. It's a great phrase. It's bad.
- 24:21Speaker 4: It's bad. Dirt do hurt. Dirt do hurt. Dirt do
- 24:25Speaker 4: sometimes have bacteria in it, which is out to get us.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I do feel like I've gotten looser with if something falls,
- 24:33Speaker 3: whether I'll eat it or not. I feel like I
- 24:36Speaker 3: was very tight on that for a long time. And
- 24:38Speaker 3: at this point, I'm like, I'm taking in all of
- 24:41Speaker 3: the information before throwing it away.
- 24:44Speaker 4: I mean, my– again, to talk about my wife behind
- 24:50Speaker 4: her back where she cannot defend herself, she really, really
- 24:54Speaker 4: like keeps our house incredibly clean to a degree that
- 24:58Speaker 4: makes me think maybe I was just like disgusting before.
- 25:02Speaker 4: So if I drop something like in our kitchen or
- 25:05Speaker 4: our dining room and I get to it quick enough,
- 25:06Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm probably okay.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:10Speaker 4: But then over the past, you know, seven years, I
- 25:13Speaker 4: have a dog and a kid running around in there.
- 25:16Speaker 4: And now I'm back to like, nah, these guys are
- 25:19Speaker 4: tracking in all kinds of stuff in here.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Do you have a Roomba?
- 25:23Speaker 4: I don't have a Roomba.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I've been considering that.
- 25:25Speaker 4: I never have. You're going to give it a try?
- 25:27Speaker 3: I'm vacuuming constantly.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I mean, my dog is shedding just nonstop.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Filling up garbage cans.
- 25:35Speaker 4: It's crazy. I think if you have a shed, we
- 25:37Speaker 4: have a hypoallergenic, my dog doesn't shed.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Oh.
- 25:40Speaker 4: And that, but that's a game changer when you have
- 25:42Speaker 4: a shedding dog.
- 25:43Speaker 3: What's the deal with your dog? It doesn't like people?
- 25:46Speaker 4: No, it likes people too much. Oh. It has a extreme,
- 25:51Speaker 4: extreme case of separation anxiety.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 25:54Speaker 4: And so my dog doesn't know you. I actually haven't
- 25:57Speaker 4: mentioned you to the dog. But if you came, if you,
- 26:03Speaker 4: Came to my house tonight. Tony would bark at you
- 26:07Speaker 4: as you're coming in the house, then immediately start wagging
- 26:10Speaker 4: his tail and love you and jump in your lap.
- 26:13Speaker 4: And then when you tried to leave, if you were
- 26:15Speaker 4: to even say the word, Joe, I'm going to go now,
- 26:19Speaker 4: he would lunge for you to try and keep you there.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Like snarling?
- 26:23Speaker 4: He uses his voice, yes. More of a full-throated bark
- 26:29Speaker 4: than a snarl.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:30Speaker 4: And then he will– we've used multiple dog trainers to
- 26:35Speaker 4: try and free him of this. Maybe your listeners will
- 26:38Speaker 4: have some tips.
- 26:39Speaker 3: People always have tips.
- 26:41Speaker 4: But we have tried multiple times with dog trainers, and
- 26:44Speaker 4: the one dog trainer explained it that, like, his mouth
- 26:48Speaker 4: is his hand. So he's trying to just simply grab
- 26:52Speaker 4: on your pant leg. Like, sometimes when he wants me–
- 26:56Speaker 4: To get into the bed. He'll like lightly without breaking skin,
- 27:00Speaker 4: like not even not even fully biting. He will put
- 27:03Speaker 4: his teeth like to my finger, like come into the bed.
- 27:08Speaker 4: But he like he will get very possessive. And he
- 27:11Speaker 4: got my mother in law really bad one time. And
- 27:14Speaker 4: I wasn't there. And I think she's maybe exaggerating. But
- 27:18Speaker 4: he she was there with my wife and he was
- 27:21Speaker 4: sitting on her lap. And that's the first step he does,
- 27:24Speaker 4: which is when dogs do that, they're going, now you're
- 27:27Speaker 4: my possession. So he was possessing her, and then she
- 27:31Speaker 4: said the word G-O, which I'm afraid you can say here.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I like that you're spelling it out on the podcast.
- 27:37Speaker 4: I freak out. Thank God she had an Ugg boot on,
- 27:42Speaker 4: and he went after this Ugg boot. And they talk
- 27:44Speaker 4: about it like it was the most harrowing life and
- 27:47Speaker 4: death experience they've ever been through. But now since then
- 27:51Speaker 4: we do a lot of like– we have like little
- 27:53Speaker 4: routines and tricks like I will take him out to
- 27:57Speaker 4: the back of the house and we can like close
- 27:59Speaker 4: him in there. Or I'll offer him a cookie that
- 28:01Speaker 4: I have in my office and then I leave his
- 28:04Speaker 4: ass in the office because I have multiple doors. And
- 28:07Speaker 4: he is– if there's a room with multiple doors, he
- 28:09Speaker 4: doesn't know what to do. He picks one door that's
- 28:12Speaker 4: like that's the main door and then these other two
- 28:15Speaker 4: doors off of my ADU, my office, he's like, I
- 28:18Speaker 4: don't know how he did it again. He went through
- 28:20Speaker 4: the wall again.
- 28:21Speaker 3: He just rolls the dice on the door.
- 28:24Speaker 4: He's betting on the same door all the time. And
- 28:26Speaker 4: he's like, I'm hoping that Joe is not magic and
- 28:30Speaker 4: he's not going to go through that window like he
- 28:32Speaker 4: normally does. But then I do because it's a door.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Have you had him since he was a puppy? Yeah.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I mean he was probably four months, five months old.
- 28:44Speaker 4: He was kind of not– we never had him in
- 28:46Speaker 4: like full puppy mode. Right. We got him from a
- 28:49Speaker 4: pet rescue in Venice. His initial– his first name was Bentley.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Oh.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Which I just didn't like.
- 28:58Speaker 3: You know whoever– Car names.
- 29:01Speaker 4: That's very dark. And he was very matted and was
- 29:05Speaker 4: all like– they had been leaving him outside. So the
- 29:09Speaker 4: two parts of the story like were not lining up
- 29:12Speaker 4: for me. But he was very cute in his pictures
- 29:15Speaker 4: and we met him and we took him for a
- 29:17Speaker 4: walk and he was very just like docile and chill
- 29:21Speaker 4: and calm. So we took him home and then after–
- 29:26Speaker 4: they did tell us when we were there and we
- 29:28Speaker 4: didn't really think this all the way through. He had
- 29:30Speaker 4: a bunch of fox tails in his ears.
- 29:32Speaker 3: These terrify me.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Those things are scary, right?
- 29:35Speaker 3: I've been warned by dog trainers they'll go up their
- 29:37Speaker 3: nose and the horror stories.
- 29:39Speaker 4: They'll just wreak havoc on dogs and dogs are just
- 29:43Speaker 4: nosing around and getting them everywhere. And he's a Bichon
- 29:46Speaker 4: poodle mix. So he has like long, fluffy white ears.
- 29:49Speaker 4: So he had a ton in his ears. So they
- 29:53Speaker 4: sedated him to remove all these foxtails. So when we
- 29:57Speaker 4: met him, he was like still coming out of a sedation.
- 30:01Speaker 4: And then like on the first morning he woke up
- 30:04Speaker 4: in our home, it was kind of like, oh, this
- 30:06Speaker 4: is what this guy is really like.
- 30:08Speaker 3: It feels like more pet rescues should be doing this.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Just send home sedated dogs.
- 30:14Speaker 4: And then, you know, I'm not an asshole. I'm not
- 30:16Speaker 4: going to be like, well, this guy is actually kind
- 30:21Speaker 4: of not a nice dog. He's not not nice.
- 30:24Speaker 3: No, he sounds like he's wonderful, but he's just got
- 30:26Speaker 3: this thing that you obviously trained into him.
- 30:28Speaker 4: He's really like– I think he had it and we
- 30:33Speaker 4: were doing like obedience training and different sort of training.
- 30:35Speaker 4: And then, not to bring up our favorite thing again,
- 30:39Speaker 4: COVID happened and we stayed at home for a full year.
- 30:43Speaker 4: And also my daughter was born in 2019. So we
- 30:46Speaker 4: stayed home a lot the year before that. We got
- 30:49Speaker 4: this dog thinking it might take us a long time
- 30:52Speaker 4: or forever to get pregnant because my wife and I
- 30:54Speaker 4: are old and we assumed all of our shit is
- 30:56Speaker 4: all fucked up. And then like we– it wasn't. We
- 30:59Speaker 4: just like– she got pregnant immediately. That's an insensitive way
- 31:02Speaker 4: to put it I guess.
- 31:04Speaker 3: No, I think that's classy.
- 31:06Speaker 4: And so then we were like, oh, fuck, and we
- 31:08Speaker 4: had like a puppy and a baby right away. But
- 31:10Speaker 4: he had so much time at home that then I
- 31:12Speaker 4: think he just got used to– I think it made
- 31:14Speaker 4: his separation anxiety much worse.
- 31:17Speaker 3: My only remaining question here is did you ever see
- 31:20Speaker 3: the Ugg boot?
- 31:21Speaker 4: I did see the Ugg boot.
- 31:22Speaker 3: What did it look like?
- 31:23Speaker 4: He got a bite out.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 31:25Speaker 4: He got his teeth into it. Okay. He ruined the boot.
- 31:28Speaker 4: He ruined the boot. But he's never broken skin. He's
- 31:32Speaker 4: never like drawn blood. Look at me making excuses for
- 31:37Speaker 4: this dog.
- 31:40Speaker 3: No, but that's the thing. They could easily draw blood
- 31:42Speaker 3: if they wanted to with their teeth. And like my dog,
- 31:44Speaker 3: she's quite large and has teeth. Sharp, big teeth. And
- 31:48Speaker 3: she'll occasionally like grab at me. She's not trying to.
- 31:50Speaker 3: The only time she's broken skin is I was going
- 31:52Speaker 3: to throw a ball and she got too excited and
- 31:53Speaker 3: jumped at the ball. It was like, oh, yeah, these
- 31:55Speaker 3: teeth are extremely sharp.
- 31:56Speaker 4: And that is like to me, that's not an intentional. No.
- 32:00Speaker 4: She's going for something else.
- 32:02Speaker 3: No. We tried to give her up, but they wouldn't
- 32:04Speaker 3: let us.
- 32:06Speaker 4: They were like, this is an accidental bite. Nice try. Well,
- 32:10Speaker 4: we had one of the dog trainers we used was this.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Very like kind Irish guy who kept coming to our house.
- 32:18Speaker 4: And it was he was kind of infuriating because he
- 32:22Speaker 4: would assess Tony and then he would be like, oh,
- 32:26Speaker 4: Tony's not that bad. And I was like, what? But
- 32:29Speaker 4: he's like a lot of times dogs that have separate.
- 32:31Speaker 4: I can't do Irish accent. He's like dogs that have
- 32:33Speaker 4: separation anxiety. They'll soon as you leave the house, they'll
- 32:36Speaker 4: destroy your whole house. But he just sort of. You know,
- 32:39Speaker 4: it's over as soon as you're gone.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Oh, interesting.
- 32:41Speaker 4: So he was trying to like frame it in this way,
- 32:43Speaker 4: but he didn't– we were like the behavior that he
- 32:46Speaker 4: is doing is bad.
- 32:47Speaker 3: He was trying to just be like, well, I'm not
- 32:49Speaker 3: good enough to fix this.
- 32:50Speaker 4: He didn't have– So just deal with it. He didn't
- 32:52Speaker 4: have an answer for that. And then we went in
- 32:55Speaker 4: the opposite direction and got a very aggressive, mean drill
- 32:58Speaker 4: sergeant sort of trainer.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Was it a German woman? Because I had one of
- 33:02Speaker 3: these and she was not good.
- 33:04Speaker 4: He was a man. And he– Red flag number one
- 33:09Speaker 4: that I should have known was a problem. He said,
- 33:12Speaker 4: we can probably do this over Zoom.
- 33:18Speaker 3: So, like, we met with him over Zoom.
- 33:21Speaker 4: And he was like, the first thing will be over Zoom.
- 33:24Speaker 4: And he was like, chain up your dog outside and
- 33:27Speaker 4: get a chain, a metal chain, and feed him outside and, like.
- 33:32Speaker 4: It's like already I'm going, why have we even agreed
- 33:35Speaker 4: to this Zoom? But then you're saying two dog abuse
- 33:39Speaker 4: things on the Zoom right away? Get out of here.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Begin neglecting the animal. That's so crazy. Did you meet
- 33:46Speaker 3: with him multiple times? No.
- 33:48Speaker 4: Okay.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Oh. Okay. Well, let's open this next thing here. Let's
- 33:52Speaker 3: see what's going on. I've got to get more tissue sounds. Okay. Oh.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Oh.
- 34:01Speaker 3: The Three Stooges is simply hilarious.
- 34:03Speaker 4: Now, have you heard of these guys before?
- 34:06Speaker 3: I'm not familiar.
- 34:07Speaker 4: These guys are three– they're three friends is my understanding. They–
- 34:12Speaker 4: I don't think they're brothers.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I've never questioned this about the Three Stooges. I was
- 34:15Speaker 3: like what their relationship is to each other.
- 34:18Speaker 4: They got to be three friends, right? They don't– I
- 34:22Speaker 4: don't know. I've never. Because wouldn't they be like the
- 34:25Speaker 4: Bonk Brothers or something? Right. Yeah.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Why wouldn't they?
- 34:29Speaker 4: I think their deal in reality is like they have
- 34:32Speaker 4: like Moe Howard and like Larry Fine. Like they have
- 34:36Speaker 4: different last names.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Oh, OK.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Like I think there were three comedians that packaged them.
- 34:40Speaker 4: So I know you like comedy. This is why I
- 34:42Speaker 4: got you.
- 34:42Speaker 3: But within the show, there's like a fiction of them
- 34:45Speaker 3: just being friends, being stupid friends. Or was it just
- 34:49Speaker 3: I don't know. I've. Never looked into the Three Stooges
- 34:52Speaker 3: beyond just having a general concept of them.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Based on my understanding of the Three Stooges, I don't
- 35:00Speaker 4: think they've thought about it either. And I think if
- 35:04Speaker 4: memory serves all of their– sort of film start with like, hey, look,
- 35:09Speaker 4: we're tailors now.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Oh, right.
- 35:11Speaker 4: They're not getting into any more. They just have like
- 35:14Speaker 4: a different job that they do poorly in every film. Right.
- 35:18Speaker 3: It's more of like an umbrella brand.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Then you know what you're, the sort of hijinks you're
- 35:23Speaker 3: going to get into.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 35:24Speaker 3: But in different settings.
- 35:25Speaker 4: It's these guys and then we just, they just, it's really,
- 35:29Speaker 4: it's like an anthology. No, I guess it's not an anthology.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Because it's the same cast.
- 35:33Speaker 4: It's kind of a black mirror. Yeah. Is it a
- 35:37Speaker 4: black mirror?
- 35:38Speaker 3: It's a black mirror style show.
- 35:40Speaker 4: This is like– but this was the thing. Like Abbott
- 35:42Speaker 4: and Costello would just be like, now we're meeting this dinosaur.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Now we're at this– or dinosaur. Now we're meeting this monster.
- 35:49Speaker 4: I don't know why I said dinosaur.
- 35:51Speaker 3: I can see them meeting a dinosaur.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Yeah. If they had the budgets for it, if they
- 35:56Speaker 4: had the effects, they would have done it.
- 35:58Speaker 3: And then did you ever see their– The reboot? What
- 36:02Speaker 3: was that thing? Do you remember this?
- 36:04Speaker 4: No, I didn't. But they did one recently. It was
- 36:07Speaker 4: like Will Sasso was Curly and Chris Diamantopoulos. It's a
- 36:12Speaker 4: Greek name that I'm going to get wrong. He's a
- 36:15Speaker 4: very fascinating actor to me because he's a very handsome man.
- 36:21Speaker 4: I think he was in Silicon Valley. But then he
- 36:24Speaker 4: played Moe, famously ugly man in my opinion. I'm putting
- 36:29Speaker 4: you on blast, Moe. I don't care. And also, he's
- 36:35Speaker 4: the voice of Mickey Mouse. When they do new Mickey
- 36:38Speaker 4: Mouse cartoons, this guy, now I just went down my
- 36:43Speaker 4: spine that I might be wrong about that, but I
- 36:44Speaker 4: don't think I am. That would be a weird thing
- 36:48Speaker 4: for you to- Don't correct me on that. Do give
- 36:51Speaker 4: me tips on how to save my dog from being insane,
- 36:55Speaker 4: but don't tell me if I'm wrong about Chris Dieman.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I've got him right here.
- 36:59Speaker 4: What's his name?
- 37:01Speaker 3: Greek names are tough. Diamantopoulos?
- 37:04Speaker 4: Yeah, see, I got it. I nailed it.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Yeah, great looking guy. Is he Mickey Mouse? That's what
- 37:09Speaker 3: we're really wondering.
- 37:10Speaker 4: He does Mickey Mouse. This I'm certain of.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Oh, you're certain of the Mickey Mouse. What are you
- 37:15Speaker 3: not certain of?
- 37:16Speaker 4: Nah, I don't know. I'm not certain.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Looks like he does the voice of something in Charlotte's Web.
- 37:22Speaker 3: But he's doing it all. Oh, yeah, he's Mickey Mouse.
- 37:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:25Speaker 3: He's doing a lot of animation. Yep. But he's such
- 37:28Speaker 3: a handsome guy.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Mickey Mouse is one of those things where I kind
- 37:32Speaker 4: of feel like anybody could maybe do Mickey Mouse because
- 37:34Speaker 4: Mickey Mouse.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Is just like– Now you're going to get comments. You're
- 37:37Speaker 3: going to get a bunch of voice actors just burning
- 37:39Speaker 3: you down.
- 37:41Speaker 4: I think truly like in the same way that like
- 37:44Speaker 4: when I was doing sketch comedy, like the laziest choice
- 37:46Speaker 4: you could make would be like to do a southern accent.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Or like an Italian mobster accent because those are the
- 37:52Speaker 4: ones everybody can do. Just so simple, yes. But I
- 37:55Speaker 4: think Mickey Mouse is that for cartoon characters. He's just like, oh, no.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I don't think I could do it.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Try it.
- 38:02Speaker 3: This is going to be nightmarish.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 38:04Speaker 3: I'm trying to even imagine what Mickey Mouse sounds like.
- 38:08Speaker 3: What's something Mickey Mouse would say?
- 38:09Speaker 4: Oh, there's too much water on my boat.
- 38:14Speaker 3: There's too much water.
- 38:15Speaker 4: On my boat. You're doing it. You just did it
- 38:19Speaker 4: as good as Christia Monopolis.
- 38:22Speaker 3: I should have booked that job.
- 38:23Speaker 4: You didn't you didn't want to and you don't need it.
- 38:25Speaker 4: You're above it. But it is crazy to me because
- 38:28Speaker 4: at some point, like, I just want to know the
- 38:30Speaker 4: thought process. Was he like, I got a good Mickey Mouse.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Get me in there. If any of my friends said
- 38:36Speaker 4: to me, I got a good Mickey Mouse, I would go,
- 38:39Speaker 4: are you feeling OK? What do you mean? How do
- 38:42Speaker 4: you know that? Why do you think that? And everybody
- 38:45Speaker 4: has a good Mickey Mouse. It's just a man doing
- 38:47Speaker 4: a high-pitched voice. Even a famous– you have a deep voice, Bridger.
- 38:51Speaker 4: I love your voice. It lives in my head. Even
- 38:56Speaker 4: you just did it.
- 38:59Speaker 3: And certainly nobody approached him. It's not like Disney was like,
- 39:02Speaker 3: you're the guy.
- 39:03Speaker 4: We got to get Christie for this. I don't know.
- 39:06Speaker 4: I know it's a 100-year-old character, worldwide recognition. It's all
- 39:10Speaker 4: over our theme park. I don't want to do another
- 39:13Speaker 4: new Mickey short unless we can get Christy.
- 39:17Speaker 3: The thing is I feel like I'm very– I have
- 39:21Speaker 3: wig blindness. I've talked about this on the podcast before.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I'm very bad with wigs. But with voice acting, I
- 39:27Speaker 3: feel similarly. Like there's the new– the Muffet special that
- 39:31Speaker 3: just came out and people were furious about Kermit's voice.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Could you tell a difference?
- 39:37Speaker 4: I can't– I can tell the difference when a voice
- 39:39Speaker 4: has changed. It drives me mad. I'm not really good
- 39:44Speaker 4: at always placing oh that's this person's voice so like
- 39:48Speaker 4: when I go take my daughter to see like we
- 39:50Speaker 4: went to see Hoppers like right and I'm trying to
- 39:54Speaker 4: have the etiquette I don't want to be that guy
- 39:56Speaker 4: taking my phone out in the movie theater I've been
- 39:58Speaker 4: corrected on that before and it's horrible.
- 40:00Speaker 3: That's shocking to me that someone's corrected you I mean
- 40:03Speaker 3: that you've been bad enough on your phone that someone
- 40:05Speaker 3: had to correct you in the theater.
- 40:06Speaker 4: I did and this was one where and I'm going
- 40:09Speaker 4: to get back to the voice thing but I went
- 40:12Speaker 4: to see– think of like a movie or a situation
- 40:16Speaker 4: where you really shouldn't be doing this. It was like
- 40:19Speaker 4: a second– like a re-release of Stop Making Sense.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Oh.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Talking Heads Stop Making Sense. So it's all fucking people
- 40:28Speaker 4: like me who are like, I'm going to go see
- 40:30Speaker 4: this in the movie theater and be– you know, like
- 40:33Speaker 4: of course I shouldn't be on my phone there. And
- 40:36Speaker 4: the woman next to me chided me and she was right.
- 40:41Speaker 3: She was totally– I'm on her side.
- 40:42Speaker 4: She was totally right.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I'm on that person's side every time. Did you see
- 40:44Speaker 3: the guy that maced somebody at the Burbank town center?
- 40:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that is a little bit too far.
- 40:52Speaker 4: But it just was– it's so embarrassing. There's like nothing
- 40:56Speaker 4: I could say.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Do you know what you were doing on your phone
- 40:58Speaker 3: at the time?
- 40:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I was getting ready to shoot like a pilot
- 41:03Speaker 4: that a comedian was like financing for himself. And like
- 41:08Speaker 4: he had sent me over the new script and I
- 41:10Speaker 4: was like– I wish it was like, oh, my mom
- 41:14Speaker 4: was in the hospital or something.
- 41:15Speaker 1: No.
- 41:16Speaker 4: It was me being like, what are my lines in
- 41:18Speaker 4: this thing that became nothing? So I deserved it. I
- 41:22Speaker 4: got to step out of the theater then. But I
- 41:24Speaker 4: tell you what, and I would– I feel very strongly
- 41:27Speaker 4: about this. I don't think I've looked on it since.
- 41:30Speaker 4: So now when I'm in Hoppers, I'm just like, this
- 41:32Speaker 4: is just going to have to torture me. To the
- 41:34Speaker 4: end of the movie that I don't know who's doing
- 41:36Speaker 4: the voice of the bug. Oh, it's Dave Franco. What
- 41:38Speaker 4: about that?
- 41:40Speaker 3: This is why I feel like animated movies shouldn't have
- 41:42Speaker 3: famous people voicing them.
- 41:43Speaker 4: No.
- 41:44Speaker 3: It makes me feel insane while I'm watching it.
- 41:46Speaker 4: It can be very, very distracting.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean very small famous people maybe. But when
- 41:53Speaker 3: it's like a superstar, I'm just now wondering. I'm like trying–
- 41:56Speaker 3: going through– I don't even know what's happening in the
- 41:59Speaker 3: movie at that point. Just trying to guess who's voicing
- 42:01Speaker 3: the character.
- 42:02Speaker 4: And sometimes if you know who it is, it takes
- 42:04Speaker 4: you out right away. Oh, it's terrible. The first movie
- 42:07Speaker 4: I took her to see in the theaters was Puss
- 42:09Speaker 4: in Boots The Last Wish. Oh, I've heard that's good actually. Oh,
- 42:12Speaker 4: it's actually very good. And it's actually kind of about
- 42:15Speaker 4: Puss in Boots outrunning death. Whoa. Which I'll also say this.
- 42:20Speaker 4: This was my introduction to Puss in Boots. I'm not
- 42:23Speaker 4: fucking with Puss in Boots before this. I'm not watching
- 42:26Speaker 4: any of the Shrek movies. The only thing I knew
- 42:28Speaker 4: about Puss in Boots was I guess in– I think
- 42:33Speaker 4: it was either Korea or Japan. The way they– the
- 42:36Speaker 4: title of the movie, the translation there, if you translated
- 42:40Speaker 4: it back into English, that movie was not called Puss
- 42:43Speaker 4: in Boots. It was called Shrek's Cat, which is insulting
- 42:48Speaker 4: to him. He's not his cat. No. As I learned
- 42:50Speaker 4: in Puss in Boots the last week.
- 42:51Speaker 3: He's a fully different– I mean he predates Shrek.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Yeah, he was around before Shrek showed up. But, yeah,
- 42:58Speaker 4: Puss in Boots, The Last Wish, great movie, but... Friend,
- 43:01Speaker 4: former guest of the pod, as I've been listening to
- 43:04Speaker 4: your pod and scrolling through the episodes, Betsy Sedaro does
- 43:07Speaker 4: a very small part in it. Oh, whoa. But it
- 43:09Speaker 4: completely takes me out of the movie.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Yeah, of course, especially when you know the person. That's
- 43:13Speaker 3: another layer to it.
- 43:14Speaker 4: And I'm there with my– she was probably about three
- 43:16Speaker 4: or four years old daughter at that point. And I'm going, hey,
- 43:20Speaker 4: that's Aunt Betsy. And she's looking at me like, what?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Because they don't understand at that age of like a
- 43:27Speaker 4: human being is doing the voice of this.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Well, I'm going to start rooting against Betsy's career. I
- 43:34Speaker 3: don't need her ruining an animated movie for me. Okay,
- 43:38Speaker 3: Three Stooges. I don't think I– I truly don't think
- 43:41Speaker 3: I've ever seen a second of the Three Stooges.
- 43:43Speaker 4: No, this wasn't forced on you?
- 43:45Speaker 3: No, this was never– I mean media consumption in my
- 43:48Speaker 3: house was odd. Oh, yeah, yeah. I didn't have a
- 43:50Speaker 3: ton of– I feel like I– I don't know. I
- 43:54Speaker 3: had no media anything. We watched Home Improvement.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Really?
- 44:02Speaker 3: And then like maybe the news.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Was that like the one show that everybody could agree on?
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yes. Or that my parents wanted to watch or something.
- 44:10Speaker 3: But there was no– nobody being like, here's what comedy
- 44:14Speaker 3: is for sure. Within the 500-mile radius.
- 44:16Speaker 4: See? Like I have– I always associate the Three Stooges
- 44:23Speaker 4: with like my grandfathers and then like uncles and like dads.
- 44:27Speaker 4: There's like a certain sort of like blue-collar East Coast
- 44:30Speaker 4: dad that are like, these guys, this is real comedy.
- 44:35Speaker 3: And they would just pop in the VHS or something?
- 44:38Speaker 4: A lot– at the time of VHSs, yes. Any man–
- 44:42Speaker 4: it's like it was male to you. It's such a
- 44:43Speaker 4: weird thing to own. The second you turned 60 years old,
- 44:46Speaker 4: you had to have a VHS of the Three Stooges.
- 44:49Speaker 4: And so it's that. But then also the reruns were
- 44:52Speaker 4: on all the time. My my in my house, the
- 44:56Speaker 4: TV was always on and still is like it's on
- 45:00Speaker 4: right now in my parents. I love that. And now
- 45:03Speaker 4: that we're in an age where it's like we'll we'll
- 45:05Speaker 4: get like a vacation house with them and like no
- 45:09Speaker 4: one has like cable anymore. And it's like it really
- 45:12Speaker 4: throws them off and like my dad will be like, hey, bud,
- 45:16Speaker 4: the TV in my mom– me and mom's bedroom is Roku.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Can you get it on– can you get the news
- 45:23Speaker 4: on there for me? He just needs to have the
- 45:26Speaker 4: sound of the news.
- 45:27Speaker 3: I totally believe that. There's something very soothing about just
- 45:31Speaker 3: having TV drone in the background.
- 45:33Speaker 4: They just always have something on. I mean my mom will–
- 45:36Speaker 4: the second they start doing the Hallmark Christmas movie, she
- 45:40Speaker 4: just has those on.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Oh, right.
- 45:41Speaker 4: In a way where I'm like this has to be
- 45:43Speaker 4: hurting your mental health in some way.
- 45:48Speaker 3: I miss just being able to turn my TV on.
- 45:50Speaker 3: But we didn't have cable until I was in like
- 45:52Speaker 3: ninth grade. It was all– I just felt like I
- 45:54Speaker 3: had been imprisoned and then suddenly there's all this stuff
- 45:58Speaker 3: to watch.
- 45:59Speaker 4: Were you getting like the three stations or what were
- 46:01Speaker 4: you getting?
- 46:02Speaker 3: I don't know. Like– What during the 90s would you get?
- 46:06Speaker 4: We would get like 3, 6, and 10, and then
- 46:09Speaker 4: there would be like 17. Like I'm old enough that
- 46:12Speaker 4: I had like the dial TV.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Oh, interesting.
- 46:14Speaker 4: I remember like turning to 17 or to 24 and
- 46:16Speaker 4: like those were the other ones.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Did it have a satisfying click?
- 46:19Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Oh.
- 46:20Speaker 3: We had channel 2, 4, 5, 13, and then 7
- 46:26Speaker 3: was PBS. 11 was something called KBYU, which is the
- 46:30Speaker 3: Mormon College's channel. TV station, which no one ever went
- 46:34Speaker 3: to Channel 11. That was the worst station you could find.
- 46:38Speaker 3: And then occasionally our antenna would pick up Channel 14,
- 46:41Speaker 3: which was UPN.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Ah, UPN was 17 for us. I love that the
- 46:46Speaker 4: numbers are different. I find it so fascinating. Like PBS
- 46:50Speaker 4: was 12 for us.
- 46:52Speaker 3: That makes no sense to me.
- 46:53Speaker 4: We had a thing happen in the Philadelphia area where forever,
- 46:57Speaker 4: like three was CBS and six was ABC. 10 was NBC.
- 47:04Speaker 4: And at some point, CBS and NBC switched. Same with us.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Five and two flipped.
- 47:12Speaker 4: First of all, why? What could have been the reason
- 47:16Speaker 4: for that?
- 47:17Speaker 3: Yeah, what happened there?
- 47:18Speaker 4: They just– the machines. We can't– there's no way around it.
- 47:22Speaker 3: How– was that a financial benefit for anyone?
- 47:25Speaker 4: It doesn't make any fucking sense. It wasn't any different.
- 47:29Speaker 4: But to the– like I can't tell you. Like there
- 47:31Speaker 4: were so– for so many years afterwards, my mother would
- 47:34Speaker 4: like call me and be like, which one is Channel 10?
- 47:40Speaker 4: And I knew that meant which one is NBC. Right, right. Wow.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember that switch and then there was– you've
- 47:49Speaker 3: like associated a certain branding with the number.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 3: And it was like, OK, now channel two is kind
- 47:54Speaker 3: of crappy.
- 47:55Speaker 4: I kind of feel like ABC in the Philadelphia area
- 47:57Speaker 4: kind of puffed their chest over that a little bit
- 47:59Speaker 4: because they're like six ABC. I think they were really
- 48:02Speaker 4: leaning into like we're not giving up our number for anybody.
- 48:05Speaker 4: We were ABC four. Our number is our number forever.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yeah, ABC, you can still count on channel four in
- 48:09Speaker 3: Utah as far as I know. So they really held
- 48:11Speaker 3: on to it. I don't know. None of that makes
- 48:13Speaker 3: any sense, though. It's very odd. The other thing that
- 48:18Speaker 3: occurred to me recently is we didn't get SNL.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Oh, wow. Just not at all. They just were opposed
- 48:24Speaker 4: to it because of the counterculture messages.
- 48:26Speaker 3: I think that something along those lines, which is so odd.
- 48:28Speaker 4: People with cones for heads.
- 48:31Speaker 3: They had all the other NBC programming. So I don't
- 48:34Speaker 3: understand why they drew the line at SNL.
- 48:37Speaker 4: It sort of makes sense to me. It does? I
- 48:38Speaker 4: mean for certain eras of SNL, I do think it
- 48:41Speaker 4: was like an edgy– yeah. So what came on then?
- 48:46Speaker 3: It must have just been garbage. It was probably infomercials
- 48:50Speaker 3: or something. We got a lot of infomercials at night
- 48:53Speaker 3: and then obviously all of Sunday was just pure infomercials.
- 48:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Which was probably the most captivating thing for us as
- 48:59Speaker 3: kids to watch. like the food dehydrator or whatever.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Oh, sure.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Begging our parents to buy one. Okay, I think we
- 49:09Speaker 3: should probably play a game.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Okay, great.
- 49:12Speaker 3: We're going to play a game called Invite List. Do
- 49:15Speaker 3: you have anything to promote or recommend? No. Okay.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Uh you know what i'll you i had a i
- 49:23Speaker 4: have a show on amazon on prime video called kevin
- 49:26Speaker 4: yes you should i came out i can't believe you
- 49:28Speaker 4: just it's so funny how this works where i feel
- 49:30Speaker 4: like all i did like a slew of podcast appearances
- 49:33Speaker 4: where i was essentially like begging people to watch the show.
- 49:36Speaker 3: That's what everyone's doing at this point.
- 49:37Speaker 4: And then once they canceled the show, I was kind
- 49:38Speaker 4: of like, all right, whatever. But I love it and
- 49:42Speaker 4: I'm proud of it and all my friends who worked
- 49:45Speaker 4: so hard on it did an incredible job and it
- 49:48Speaker 4: will be on there for as long as Amazon decides
- 49:51Speaker 4: that it's on there. So I still do want people
- 49:55Speaker 4: to watch it even though it doesn't, I won't be
- 49:58Speaker 4: making any more of them.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it exists and it's now just its own little
- 50:02Speaker 3: thing that gets to It will probably live forever. Amazon
- 50:05Speaker 3: is probably going to eventually own everything.
- 50:07Speaker 4: I feel like they– if anything, they need to have
- 50:10Speaker 4: more stuff on there. I feel like they're like trying
- 50:12Speaker 4: to compete with Netflix. And Netflix– one of the things
- 50:15Speaker 4: that Netflix has going for it is like you'll find something.
- 50:18Speaker 4: And Amazon kind of doesn't have that.
- 50:21Speaker 3: I just feel like when I get on Amazon, I
- 50:23Speaker 3: don't know how to really find anything. No.
- 50:27Speaker 4: It's one of the worst in terms of that. And
- 50:29Speaker 4: we sort of– I co-created the show with Aubrey Plaza
- 50:32Speaker 4: and we sort of like tried to like voice our
- 50:34Speaker 4: concerns about that.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Who's at the wheel?
- 50:37Speaker 4: Nothing anybody can do about that. And they're one of
- 50:40Speaker 4: those weird ones too where it makes– for all of
- 50:43Speaker 4: its problems, at least when I go on Netflix, I'm
- 50:47Speaker 4: just looking at Netflix. But Amazon is like, do you
- 50:49Speaker 4: want to buy a movie too?
- 50:50Speaker 3: How about one of a million trials?
- 50:52Speaker 4: Or do you want to– Watch something on Apple TV.
- 50:54Speaker 4: And I'm like, wait a minute. Hang on.
- 50:56Speaker 3: It doesn't feel like you are ever actually in Amazon's
- 50:59Speaker 3: TV thing.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Like it would drive me crazy when I was trying
- 51:03Speaker 4: to because all the streaming shows like they have to
- 51:05Speaker 4: like the first 30 days are also important. So we
- 51:07Speaker 4: were going I'm going on there every day to be like,
- 51:09Speaker 4: where are we at in the top 10? Right, right.
- 51:11Speaker 4: And then they break out the top 10. But if
- 51:13Speaker 4: you look at their top 10, it would be like
- 51:15Speaker 4: all movies that came out two months ago. They have
- 51:18Speaker 4: to buy it now by. But, you know, it's like
- 51:21Speaker 4: crime number– crime 101 or what was the Chris Pratt
- 51:25Speaker 4: movie Mercy where it's just like chair the movie where
- 51:27Speaker 4: he's just sitting down the whole time? That kept being
- 51:30Speaker 4: number one. And I'm like am I– is my little
- 51:34Speaker 4: cat cartoon in competition with chair the movie?
- 51:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very confusing. It feels like a pretty easy fix.
- 51:43Speaker 3: But who am I to say?
- 51:44Speaker 4: Listen, it's getting cold. It's getting dark earlier. You need
- 51:49Speaker 4: something to fill the time with. Go get lost on
- 51:52Speaker 4: Prime Video. Get on there. Scroll around. The show is
- 51:56Speaker 4: called Kevin. Terrible title. Hard to find. So take a while.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I think it's a– it's the one– It'll be the
- 52:03Speaker 3: first Kevin that comes up.
- 52:04Speaker 4: It got a fair amount of criticism online. But the
- 52:08Speaker 4: one criticism I was like, that guy is right, was
- 52:10Speaker 4: I saw like a comment that was just like, Why
- 52:12Speaker 4: is this called Kevin? I'm not getting anything from that name.
- 52:15Speaker 4: I'm like, he's right. I disagree.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Why is anything called anything?
- 52:20Speaker 4: It's about a cat who breaks up with his owners
- 52:22Speaker 4: and we could have called it like Kevin on his
- 52:24Speaker 4: own or something. But it's like, nope. And I'm dumb.
- 52:27Speaker 4: At some point I was like somebody more important than
- 52:29Speaker 4: me is going to be like, hey, come up with
- 52:30Speaker 4: a better name for this. But they never did.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Wait, is Kevin can wait the.
- 52:37Speaker 4: That's another problem with it. You got that.
- 52:40Speaker 3: You got Kevin can wait.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Then you got Kevin can go fuck himself. And Aubrey
- 52:46Speaker 4: and I really dug our heels in because it was
- 52:48Speaker 4: about our real cat that we had together. And it
- 52:52Speaker 4: was about us breaking up and our cat going off
- 52:54Speaker 4: doing his own thing. And we were like, but his
- 52:56Speaker 4: name was Kevin. So we just can't change it. But
- 52:59Speaker 4: I'll tell you something else. His actual name was we
- 53:02Speaker 4: named him Kevin Hines after our friend, improviser, comedian, UCB guy,
- 53:08Speaker 4: Kevin Hines. But then I was like, well, we can't
- 53:10Speaker 4: call it Kevin Hines.
- 53:12Speaker 3: People would have been like, what are we talking about?
- 53:16Speaker 4: And number one upset on that list would have been
- 53:18Speaker 4: the man, Kevin Hines.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Life ruiner.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I had already done like. Stand up on Comedy Central
- 53:24Speaker 4: once and I used to do jokes about my cat
- 53:27Speaker 4: and say his first and last name. And it would
- 53:29Speaker 4: always get a laugh of like a cat having a
- 53:30Speaker 4: last name. But then when he watched the special, I
- 53:33Speaker 4: heard through his brother like, why is he saying my
- 53:35Speaker 4: name so much? And I'm like, hey, man, fair point.
- 53:41Speaker 3: OK. Everyone find Kevin. Joe's online. You can find him,
- 53:46Speaker 3: et cetera.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:48Speaker 3: OK. We're going to play invite list. I'm going to
- 53:49Speaker 3: start naming a list of celebrities. OK. You tell me
- 53:52Speaker 3: invited or not invited. You can say why or why not.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Once we get to 10, that's your party.
- 53:57Speaker 4: And I have to decide in the moment. You have to.
- 54:00Speaker 3: Decide in the moment.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Okay.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Katy Perry.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Invited. Clavicular. Not invited.
- 54:08Speaker 3: David Sedaris.
- 54:09Speaker 4: Invited. Iman. Invited.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Mary Jo Buttafuoco.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Invited. Misha Barton. Okay, now Misha Barton was on the OC?
- 54:20Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:21Speaker 4: Okay, not invited because I'm not sure about who she is.
- 54:24Speaker 3: She had a very dramatic end on the OC.
- 54:26Speaker 4: Oh, yeah?
- 54:27Speaker 3: Devastating to see.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Do you feel like you can spoil it?
- 54:29Speaker 3: Sure, she dies. What was her name? I can't even
- 54:33Speaker 3: remember her name.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Marissa. Marissa.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Marissa's got SUV flips or something.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Wow. Now, in real life, did she want off the
- 54:41Speaker 4: show or something?
- 54:42Speaker 3: Yeah, she must have wanted off, right?
- 54:43Speaker 4: She was like, I'm too big for this. She is
- 54:46Speaker 4: probably regretting that. And now you can't even get into
- 54:48Speaker 4: Joe Wankert's party. Wow. It's rough. How far have you fallen?
- 54:53Speaker 3: You could be partying with Mary Jo Buttafuoco. Okay. Ann Romney.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Ann Romney. Is that wife of Mitt Romney?
- 55:05Speaker 3: Mother Romney.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Not invited.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Jason Tatum.
- 55:10Speaker 4: Jason Tatum.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Not invited.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Not invited. I'm from Philadelphia. I know he's an NBA player.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Who does this guy play for? He plays for the Celtics,
- 55:18Speaker 4: one of my most hated rivals. But also, this guy
- 55:21Speaker 4: is a weird guy. Is he? We got to look up.
- 55:24Speaker 4: He has a crazy tattoo. He has some really crazy tattoos.
- 55:28Speaker 4: I'm blanking on. He just like he's one of these
- 55:32Speaker 4: rich athletes who doesn't have a good guy in his
- 55:35Speaker 4: life to tell him no about some bad idea.
- 55:38Speaker 3: Is this chest tattoo?
- 55:40Speaker 4: No, I think it's on his leg.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 55:43Speaker 4: It's like three characters that don't belong together or something.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Is this good for a podcast? This is good. When
- 55:48Speaker 4: you can't remember a single specific of what you're talking about?
- 55:51Speaker 1: OK.
- 55:53Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 55:54Speaker 3: Let's see. It's a disaster. This is the thing we're
- 55:57Speaker 3: looking at here?
- 55:58Speaker 4: Yeah. No. Is that a different bad one?
- 56:03Speaker 3: God, it looks like a map or something.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Forget about that. I think we should abort on this.
- 56:09Speaker 3: Don't let this guy come.
- 56:12Speaker 4: Gary Oldman. Gary Oldman. I'm going to say not invited.
- 56:18Speaker 4: And I'm basing it off of one thing.
- 56:20Speaker 2: What?
- 56:21Speaker 4: He is one of the few celebrities that I've seen
- 56:24Speaker 4: in real life in L.A. Like not at an industry function. Oh, sure.
- 56:30Speaker 4: There was this great burrito place on– I want to
- 56:35Speaker 4: say Vermont, whose name I'm blanking on. It's like near
- 56:39Speaker 4: that coffee bean and tea leaf. Do you know what
- 56:41Speaker 4: I'm talking about?
- 56:42Speaker 3: Oh, you're talking about Yucca's?
- 56:45Speaker 4: Yucca's.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 56:46Speaker 4: And they had a little kiosk. Hillhurst. On Hillhurst. Thank you.
- 56:49Speaker 4: I'm always Vermont and Hillhurst. And the listener needs to know.
- 56:52Speaker 3: I'm always– Listener's getting mad.
- 56:53Speaker 4: They had a small– like almost like a little like
- 56:56Speaker 4: kiosk or a very tiny– A stand that was in
- 57:00Speaker 4: the parking lot of a liquor store.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 57:02Speaker 4: And I would go there when I lived in Los
- 57:04Speaker 4: Feliz and I would get a burrito and I would
- 57:06Speaker 4: eat it by myself sometimes in that parking lot. And
- 57:10Speaker 4: one time I saw a car come screaming into a
- 57:16Speaker 4: liquor store and out of the car comes Gary Oldman.
- 57:20Speaker 4: And I'm putting the burrito down, folks. I'm like, I
- 57:23Speaker 4: got to make sure. I'm going to be talking about
- 57:26Speaker 4: this on a podcast at some point. It was 100
- 57:28Speaker 4: percent Gary Oldman. He blew into the liquor store, blew
- 57:32Speaker 4: back out, and then again. And I can't believe someone
- 57:36Speaker 4: wasn't vehicularly murdered when this happened. So I think he
- 57:40Speaker 4: might be a nutcase.
- 57:44Speaker 3: What was he driving?
- 57:45Speaker 4: I don't remember. You have wig blindness. I have car blindness.
- 57:49Speaker 4: I know my car, but makes and models of cars,
- 57:53Speaker 4: I'm like, good luck.
- 57:54Speaker 3: I weirdly know all cars.
- 57:56Speaker 4: Oh, yeah? Are you a gearhead?
- 57:58Speaker 3: I think because my dad and my brothers really liked cars. Okay.
- 58:02Speaker 3: All makes and models, I have a fairly good memory for.
- 58:05Speaker 4: I've never had that with any sort of vehicle in
- 58:07Speaker 4: my life. First college roommate was a guy I went
- 58:10Speaker 4: to high school with and CCD with, Steve Reeves, and
- 58:13Speaker 4: he had that with airplanes. So like a plane would
- 58:16Speaker 4: fly overhead and he would, from the ground, would know
- 58:19Speaker 4: what type of plane it was. That's wild to me.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Okay, Gary Oldman's not coming. Jessica Simpson.
- 58:26Speaker 4: Invited.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Danny Brown.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Danny Brown, is he a rapper?
- 58:30Speaker 3: Yes, wonderful rapper.
- 58:32Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, I'll invite him.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Okay, Dr.
- 58:34Speaker 4: Phil. Not invited.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Emma Stone.
- 58:38Speaker 4: Not invited.
- 58:40Speaker 3: You can't invite everybody.
- 58:41Speaker 4: I don't know why. Oh, wait a minute. I mixed
- 58:45Speaker 4: up Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, but it's too late, huh? Yes,
- 58:48Speaker 4: it's too late.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Oh, fuck.
- 58:52Speaker 4: First of all. I love Emma Stone. I love you.
- 58:55Speaker 4: I love your work. I'm a baseball fan. I feel
- 58:59Speaker 4: like she's like married to a guy that likes the Padres.
- 59:02Speaker 4: So now she goes to Padres games. I think that's
- 59:04Speaker 4: cool and supportive. And let's also take a second and
- 59:08Speaker 4: what do I have against him?
- 59:10Speaker 3: Emma Thompson, former guest of the podcast.
- 59:12Speaker 4: On this podcast?
- 59:13Speaker 3: She's the best.
- 59:15Speaker 4: She seems like the best.
- 59:17Speaker 3: Look at the egg all over your face right now.
- 59:21Speaker 4: Wow. Nobody's rooting for Joe after this. I'm making a
- 59:26Speaker 4: lot of Hollywood celebrity enemies today, I think. I think
- 59:30Speaker 4: Chris DeMontopoulos might come after me. Mickey himself. Maybe this
- 59:34Speaker 4: is what I need. Maybe this is my new pivot, Bridgers.
- 59:37Speaker 4: I'm just like– Bad boy. Truth teller. Getting in trouble. Yes. Okay.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Amy Tan. Joy Luck Club? Yes. Yeah. Not invited. I
- 59:48Speaker 4: don't know anything else but Joy Luck Club.
- 59:50Speaker 3: That's the only book I know.
- 59:51Speaker 4: And that's terrible. If I'm just like, oh, so– I
- 59:55Speaker 4: got to have something else to talk to them about.
- 59:57Speaker 3: And we should clarify you don't think the book is terrible.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Oh, I love the book.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Love the book and the movie. It sounded like you're
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: like Joy Luck Club. That's terrible.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: No, I love the book. I love the movie. And
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: My Lovely Wife Holly, one of her favorite movies. She's
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: going to be mad I didn't invite her.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: Miley Cyrus.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: Oh, invite it.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Whitney Rose.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: I don't know who that is.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: Real Housewife of Salt Lake City.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Wait, are you.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: Watching the show?
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Is she the one who married her grandpa?
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: No, that's Mary Cosby.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Mary, Mary. See, I only– is she a newer, later
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: season person? No, when is– oh, gee.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Which one is she? She's kind of a Marilyn Monroe type.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Married to a husband that has a pyramid scheme.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: She's invited. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Terry Crews.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: Terry Crews, invited, yeah.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: Joaquin Phoenix.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: Not invited. Because at my parties, I love to serve milk.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: And I know he's got a big problem with people
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: drinking milk, and that's just not– me and my friends,
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: that's how we get down with big glasses or bowls
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: of milk. Cow's milk. Ashley Park. Ashley Park. I don't
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: know if I'm familiar with Ashley Park.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: She's a great actor.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: But I don't know celebrities that well.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: No, I'm going to not invite her. I'm sorry.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Tara Reid.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Tara Reid, not invited.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Sade.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: Oh, invited.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: That's a good pick. Killian Murphy.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: Invited. That's number 10.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: Number 10. Killian's a great.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: I feel like he's got to be a good guy.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: I think so.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Something about him that just seems like a good egg
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: to me.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: He seems like a good– he seems like he's a
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: good dad to me for some reason. Oh, interesting. I'm
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: basing that off of nothing.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I feel like he was just in the movie based
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: on that wonderful short story, the Irish thing that is
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: about kind of a great dad. Oh, yeah. That's where
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: I'm getting that vibe from. Yeah. So it's just– I'm
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: now just kind of admitting that I don't– I can't
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: tell the difference between fiction and reality. I kind of
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: struggle with that. OK. Well, you played the game perfectly.
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Let's answer a listener question. People are writing in to
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: isaidnogifts at gmail.com. Just kind of everybody that listens to
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: this is a disaster and they need help. This says, hi,
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Bridger and friend. I started my own business a year
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: ago and have found quite a bit of success through
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: social media with it. That is to say, most of
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: my customers are online, and the more I post stories,
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: daily life, what I'm making, etc., the more sales I get.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Posting so much on social media always makes me cringe
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: when I think of my real family and friends saying
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: everything about me. Almost feels like someone walking in on
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: you taking a selfie, if you know what I mean. Oh,
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: I know what you mean. I've overheard friends talking about
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: how annoying it is when people post all the time.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: In parentheses, was this hinted at me, lol. But if
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: I don't post, I don't make sales. How do you
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: get over what other people think of your online presence?
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: I just know certain family members are judging the shit
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: out of me. Thanks for your help. XO, Hannah.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: Okay. I really relate to you here, Hannah. And I
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: think it's a really tough thing to sort of– I
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: don't know how you make the feeling go away. But
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I think you have to just like this is what
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: you do for your living. Like you've got to just
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: like you have to do it.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Certain people just don't care. It doesn't it doesn't occur
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: to them that it's an uncomfortable thing to do. And
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: then there are other people with kind of this barrier.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: I'm a very good example of this. Every post is
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: a panic.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: I this makes me like you, Hannah. I'm glad that
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: you're like are I'm sad that you feel bad about this,
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: but I feel like I can get a sense from
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: someone's social media preference if they don't have that filter. Right.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: And you can tell when some people are being more selective.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: But I always try to like put– you got to–
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: you can't put it all on you because if you
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: really are bothering somebody in your life, like they could
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: unfollow you.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: The mute is right there.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: I'm using it all the time. And I used to–
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: and I feel bad about this, but sometimes I would
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: like mute people selectively like, I have a lot of
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: friends in show business. I understand like when you have
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: a big project coming out, you're going to be posting
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: about it a lot. You can temporarily mute someone and
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: they don't know. And like when Kevin was coming out,
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: I'm certain that there are people in my life that went,
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: I'm going to take a break from Joe for a
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: little bit. And I salute you.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think I'll ever get to a place
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: where I'm just like willy-nilly posting. I can't imagine any
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: universe where I'm just comfortable putting something on the internet
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: without at least hours of thinking about it.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: I've never felt worse than the like ramp up to
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: that show. Like from when the trailer came out to
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: when it came out because I felt like it was
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: my job to post about it every day. And it's
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: also like at a certain point, I don't have that
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: many followers. So I'm like, I don't know if this
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: is making a difference anymore.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: I actually take it back. It isn't your job. Traditionally,
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: the company that needs to sell the product would– Have–
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: what you do is you set aside some money to
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: advertise the product. But I'm old-fashioned. The idea of asking
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: the person who did all of the other work to
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: then turn to their Instagram following that they don't care about, whatever.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: I mean I've– Then I don't support you because I
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: don't like seeing advertisements for that. It's too upsetting. It's
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: too scary. And it's too weird. And I'm seeing it
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: during the day. I'm seeing it at a bus stop.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: I don't like it.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: A lot of bus stop and bus things for Ryan
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Murphy's American Horror Story.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: And I feel like it's like it's just never going
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: to end. I feel like it's been like 20 years
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: of this now. I got to be like it's a
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: big glass. It's a big glass filled with blood. And
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: there's an eyeball floating in it and then there's a
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: spider who's hosting a dinner party. Like what is it about?
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: And then when you watch the show, you don't really
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: understand what it's about either.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: I don't believe any of that even appears in the show.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: I think those are two separate things.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if they're just like, we're just
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: going to put up the wildest stuff we can think
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: of on a poster and then the show is whatever. Yeah,
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: who knows what she could show. The show is just
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Jessica Lange and we've given her three wigs. Three. Is
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: that low?
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: That seems low.
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Who knows what Hannah's selling? Illegal gun sales? I don't know.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: But it seems like she's posting, selling, posting, selling. So
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: I say go for it.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: I mean, we're all doing that now.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: It's like it's what are you supposed to do?
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: I talked to my sister about this recently. We both
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: have a lot of apprehension. I've kind of been conditioned
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: a little bit to it. She's not in the entertainment business.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: So there's just a lot of talk about, well, Unfortunately,
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: most people don't even– it doesn't even occur to them
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: that this is bad anymore. It's just like, well, of
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: course you would post everything you could possibly think of
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: all the time.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: And you like have to do it to survive. It's
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: like a bummer.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: Everyone in every industry now has to post.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: It's crazy. Somebody's– it is– it's such a monkey paw.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: It's like one of these things where it's like, Was
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: the internet worth it for this?
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: No.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Like I always think about like did I errantly make
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: a wish when I was 10 years old and like
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: wouldn't it be cool if Thor had his own movie
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: and now there's like five Thor movies? It's like we
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: don't need that. I feel like the same thing with
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: the internet now.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: It doesn't really feel like the internet really exists anymore.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: It feels like it became– it dried up and then
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: it was just Instagram that was still there.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Terrible thing. Well, Hannah, I feel like you've just got
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: to keep going. I feel like there's a little bit
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: of criticism in how do you get over what other
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: people think of your online presence. It's a little bit– oh,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: I love how you don't care about what people think
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: of you. You got to make that money, Hannah.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: You got to make the money. You got to make
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: your money.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: You got to go for it, Hannah. And eventually you'll
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: have so much money you'll be able to leave all
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: those losers behind.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: There are some people posting just for no good goddamn
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: reason and they're posting too much. That's an interesting– So
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: you're not doing that.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: There will always be somebody posting something worse than you.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: I always think of like my wife and I have
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: just decided at some point that like we love each
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: other and we tell each other that all the time.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: So we're never going to do another, hey, it's our anniversary.
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: Twelve years ago, I met you, babe. God, I love
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: you even still. I have some friends who are in
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: what I think are healthy relationships.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: They're still doing that, and they're doing the birthday. They're
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: doing the anniversary. They're doing Mother's Day. They're doing Father's Day.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: I'm like, how can you? How can you?
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: And how were you expressing this before Instagram?
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: And why? And what is it like?
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: You weren't calling up your friends and family to tell
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: them that it was your wife's birthday in, like, 1998,
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: You still make me laugh. Like the way you made
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: me laugh 12 years ago. Who is that for? And
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: then you got to go, like, I know I'd be, like,
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: I'd be so afraid I'm saying the same thing. What
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: pictures are you pulling up?
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: You're actually kind of like making people dislike your spouse.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: It just, it makes. You're making them a target. It makes,
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: it also makes me not believe it too.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Oh, there's a lot of that. Believe me. The more
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: posting that happens, the closer you're getting to something falling apart.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: I think that's pretty obvious. Well, we answered the question perfectly.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: I've got a new T-shirt. I'm so thrilled about this.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: Hey, look. Now, between you and me, if you don't
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: like this, it doesn't fit, whatever. You're going to see
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: me wearing this. I'm making a real gamble to buy
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: another one of my male friends a shirt. Never done
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: that once in my life.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever bought a friend clothing. I've
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: always said it was funny to buy a friend a
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: pair of jeans. I think that's a very weird thing
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: to get from a friend. But yeah, I don't think
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: I've ever purchased a, it's a big, it's like buying
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: furniture for somebody.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: I bought a friend a hat and I haven't given
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: it to him yet because I haven't seen him. But
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: I felt weird. But that feels like it's like, okay,
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: it's like a sports team hat. And I'm like, I
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: know he likes this team. And it's like very like,
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: it was like a handmade like boot, like illegally made
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: hat that I got in Toronto. But even then I
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: was like, it was like, I'm talking to Holly like,
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: is it weird if I buy him this hat? And
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: she's like, It's OK, Joe, if you want to buy
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: your friend a hat.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: It's just a little like I want– I'm thinking about
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: you visually. Like I want to change your appearance. I
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: don't know. There's something odd about giving somebody else clothing,
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: thinking about your friends that way.
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: And it feels like if it's a little bit off
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: or something or you've misread them, like You wear a
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: lot of vintage t-shirts. So high stakes. I feel very
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: confident about that. But I wouldn't buy you like any–
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: like buying you a pair of pants, I'd be like,
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: I don't know. That's a whole other personal thing. Very
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: personal thing. And the fit is so important and.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you're really– that's something you've– I don't even know.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: Spouse. I don't know.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: It's very tricky territory. But I also have my Three
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: Stooges DVD.
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: Yeah. And these are three guys that are buying hats
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: for each other, I think. These are three men. This
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: is the cure to the loneliness epidemic, male loneliness epidemic,
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: I think, is in the three students. Because these guys
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: are not brothers. They're three friends. They won't take a
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: job without their other two buds getting involved. So something
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: we can take from that.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: Oh, Joe, I'm so glad you could be here.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Thanks so much. What a fun chat.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Listener, the podcast is over. Close the door. I love you.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: Goodbye.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: I Said No Gifts is an exactly right production. Our
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: senior producer is Ellis Nelson, and our episodes are beautifully
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: mixed by Ben Talladay. The theme song is by miracle
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: worker Amy Mann, and we couldn't do it without our
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: booker Patrick Kottner. You must follow the show on Instagram
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: at I Said No Gifts. That's where you're going to
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: see pictures of all these wonderful gifts I'm getting. And
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: don't you want to see the gifts?
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: When I invited you here I thought I made myself
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: perfectly clear When you're a guest in my home You.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: Gotta come to me empty-handed I said no gifts, your
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: presence is presence enough.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: And I already had too much stuff.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: So how do you dare disobey me?
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Guitar solo
