- 1:07And it's Grandma Gail. We're going to do some live commentary watching the Met Gala red carpet tonight, in real time and sharing all of our thoughts because we know we have a lot.
- 1:20Speaker 4: We have a lot of thoughts and we want your thoughts. Yes. So you'll have to feed it back into our, with us too and and say whatever comments you want.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah. Think about Fashion Police with Joan Rivers back in the day, except we'll be a little bit nicer. Maybe. Maybe. And also a mix of that and just, like, sitting on your couch with your own family and watching and all the unfiltered commentary.
- 1:42That's what we're doing. So welcome to our family. We're watching from the Upper East Side. The Met is a block away. A block away in the rain.
- 1:52It's been
- 1:52Speaker 4: a mess over on 5th Avenue. You know, they've blocked off 5th Avenue for the last two days. It's been with all the trucks and the equipment and all the tents. So it's happening here in the city. It's something unlike any other ball that we have because it's outdoors and they you know, people have to walk through this glorious tent up the steps of the Met.
- 2:14Speaker 3: What you're seeing now, by the way, we're watching a livestream that's on vogue.com. If you want it on your own screen, that's where to go on YouTube on YouTube of Vogue's page as well. And we are watching it live with you, so we're seeing it all for the first time.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Alright. Kim, give everybody the theme tonight because I can see it starting already. Yes.
- 2:36Speaker 3: It's super fine tailoring black style. So there's a lot that goes into this theme. But first, by the way Oh,
- 2:44Speaker 4: there's there's an Coleman Domingo and So Winnow
- 2:49Speaker 3: we'll get into, if you guys aren't already familiar who the hosts are this year. Everyone write in, by the way, where they're watching from. We'd love to know where you are in the world. And, of course, as we start to see some of the outfits, say your favorites, who you're excited to see tonight, and we'll stay with you through the red carpet. So, by the way, if you don't know, the Met Gala is a fundraising event for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
- 3:16We love going there.
- 3:17Speaker 4: It's relatively a new thing, a new addition to the museum the last maybe ten years, it was her brainchild.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Do you remember the first one? Like, you watching or
- 3:26Speaker 4: No. I think I just went over and looked at it at the museum It was
- 3:29Speaker 3: easier then probably.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't think I ever watched it TV.
- 3:34Speaker 3: They block off the streets now. Oh, But you can also stand in front of the Mark Hotel where a lot of the celebrities stay. At the
- 3:41Speaker 4: Carlisle and that whole 78th Street. It's a mess in the city right now between the rain and the crowds coming here. They've been coming in the last couple of days. Mhmm. And, you know, they really the paparazzi are out there.
- 3:54I don't even know who who half the people are, but they're certainly taking a lot of pictures.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yeah. So, anyway, it's all for the fashion exhibit that's opening on at the Met, which is and the Met Gala is always the first Monday of May. So if you ever heard that saying, that's when the Met Gala is. So getting into the theme of this year's exhibition, which, by the way, we tried to be a little bit on theme.
- 4:16Speaker 4: But we're not so much on theme. We're wearing black tail
- 4:18Speaker 3: and suits. Well, you know, it's not an oh, here's the dog. She's joining us.
- 4:21Speaker 4: She's coming to she's coming to the gala.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Really? So for those okay. Let's let her calm down for a second while everyone watches. Okay. She she had a fun time out there.
- 4:32Did you see any celebrities in front of the Met? No.
- 4:34Speaker 4: But she got wet. She was wearing her raincoat. Oh, look at his oh, look
- 4:38Speaker 3: at the bib. Yeah. He looks insane.
- 4:40Speaker 4: That's that's cool.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. So the theme this year, super fine tailoring black style. It's all about the style of the modern black dandy. So it's inspired by Monica l Miller's book, which was called slaves to fashion, black dandyism and the styling of black diasporic identity.
- 5:01So it's all about the importance of style and suiting and all the formation of black identities from the Harlem Renaissance to the global impact of black designers today. So dandyism, I did some research, by the way. So I I'm not going in totally blind. I wanna help you guys a little bit out here.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Look how pretty she looks. She's not wearing a men's. She's looking wearing a beautiful blue coat. Yeah. Let's just take a peek at that.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah. That's a little more delayed than this one. Have a few screens going
- 5:30Speaker 4: on. Okay.
- 5:31Speaker 3: So the guests arrive to Like, basically, dandyism was a man who paid a ton of attention to being well dressed and groomed. And the actual dress code for the gala is tailored for you, which nods to the importance of suiting and tailoring within the exhibition. Mostly about men.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I mean, it was create you know, with a man in in mind. I mean, how they're gonna adapt it to women, it's gonna be interesting.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yes. But I think it really was based on men. Yeah. And I think we can definitely expect people to make that theme into whoever however they're going to interpret it. So I'm sure they'll reference it with, like, boldness and that tailoring we were talking about.
- 6:17And also the creativity of black style icons, Cab Calloway, James Baldwin, Prince, Virgil Abloh, Andre Leon Talley. So and who was one of the most influential voices in fashion. Right. One of the first black
- 6:32Speaker 4: men fabulous.
- 6:33Speaker 3: To rise to the top at Vogue.
- 6:35Speaker 4: When really we didn't have black men being represented, so he was really a first.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yes. So we have the carpet running here and we'll see some interviews of what everybody's wearing, but I think we'll see a ton of really creative tailoring, bold colors, tuxedo gowns maybe.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't really know. I I'm not quite sure how they're going to go do this, but I'm sure it'll be all very creative as always the meth things are. None of these, most of these things that you're gonna see tonight, you never can wear. Really a form of art.
- 7:09That's really what it is. And some of them are gonna be fabulous and most of them are done by the very famous designers. Think they.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And stylists too. My dog is going crazy.
- 7:20Speaker 4: She wants to go to the Met Gala. She wants
- 7:22Speaker 3: to go out. So does I, girl. But I think pinstripes we'll see Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Bet they will be right.
- 7:28Speaker 3: A lot of pattern, all that dandy inspired accessories like the cane Right. Structured hats, statement brooches.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I know you're Yeah. Wearing I'm wearing one. I I you told me that's the theme and I went into the drawer. Found an old spider, actually an Armani, which from about twenty years ago, and it's quite beautiful, actually. I think that's become very in vogue and it started with men wearing And now everybody's sort of putting them on their lapels.
- 7:55Great looking. And I think the more the merrier. That's what they're
- 7:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah, a bunch of different.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Yeah, a bunch of them.
- 8:00Speaker 3: What do you guys think of our outfits tonight by the way? They're not very great Kim.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I don't think we should dwell on our outfits because they're not too terrific.
- 8:08Speaker 3: By the way, if you're looking at his suit which I believe has a ton of pearls on them, on the jacket,
- 8:14Speaker 4: which is Yeah, it's really a short jacket. Now, see here, this is red and black, is sort of pretty. I don't know who these
- 8:20Speaker 3: people my
- 8:23Speaker 4: problem, Jane.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you a little bit. The co chairs tonight, Anna Wintour, which we know.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Pharrell Williams, who we're seeing there. Right. Lewis Hamilton, Coleman Domingo, we saw in the beginning Bib. Aesop Rocky. Who I
- 8:39Speaker 4: don't know who that is. You're gonna have to point that out.
- 8:41Speaker 3: These guys out. And I think LeBron is the honorary chair, although I saw something. You guys, can you confirm online? He might have backed out. I don't know if you
- 8:50Speaker 4: heard himself. Feeling well. I mean, I'm sure he wouldn't have backed out on purpose. Yeah. So See, there's the the reference to dandyism with the chain.
- 8:59You know, this was very much at the forties and fifties. The zoot suitors. Yeah. Zoot. We used to call them zoot suitors.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I think Billie Eilish is gonna wear a zoot. That's my prediction.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Okay. I don't know who this is who's talking.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I think she works for Vogue. Wanna I don't know. I'm I'm not the best. If you guys know, shout things things out
- 9:17Speaker 4: to us because we're for Grandma Gale, there's nobody here that I know. Somebody asked how it's living in New
- 9:22Speaker 3: York City right now with the Met.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Well, it's it's not easy. It's not easy. And as soon as tomorrow or they'll take all those tents down, it'll be very perfect because they've got some wonderful shows, which I went to last week there right now. The sergeant show just opened at the museum, and it's fabulous. But it's very difficult the last couple of days here because they're all setting it up for this gala.
- 9:45And, of course, now it's all blocked off. You cannot go down 5th Avenue from, I think, about 84th down to, I don't know, maybe 78th. So it's all and they have the real distraction is the is the are the stars that are coming because they bring along with them the SUVs and the paparazzi and all that kind of stuff. So you've got everybody looking at these people.
- 10:10Speaker 3: So what what do we think of this red cape moment, by the way?
- 10:13Speaker 4: It sort of reminds me of Michael Jackson.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Oh, really? Interesting. I think the the shoes are Marc J. By the way, this is La la Anthony. I love her dress.
- 10:26That I'm really looking at it.
- 10:27Speaker 4: She's not wearing any suiting. She's wearing a beautiful gold. But it's gold.
- 10:31Speaker 3: It's over the top.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Well, it's beautiful. It's a blue coat because it's quite chilly right now in Oh New
- 10:37Speaker 3: Anna, sorry, meant La la.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh yeah. She's wearing a I
- 10:40Speaker 3: don't know. Does she follow the theme? That's a suit. That's a suit jacket.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Well, she's wearing a, she's wearing definitely wearing a pin. So I think everybody out there, get your pins out, get your grandmother or your mother to give you her costume jewelry and start putting it on your clothes.
- 10:53Speaker 3: They're both wearing Virgil by the way, Virgil Abloh.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Okay, well I love this. I love the dress that Anna's wearing. She always wears her own jewelry and always is quite color coordinated naturally with the outfit.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, this is the first Met Gala in over twenty years to focus on menswear.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, you know what? I guess men are stealing the show now. I mean, really in many things, women's clothes are taking, know, Armani did this forty years ago where they, he put women in men's suits and they look beautifully tailored and they were neat. And it wasn't necessarily a look that was meant to go to the office.
- 11:31It was meant to go wherever you were going because it was very chic and he's still doing it. And many of the younger designers are copying him or copying others or being creative themselves.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah. So, And I think how do you think this is the discussion they're having now, but how do you think men's fashion has changed in the last two decades? Think Anna is saying it's more creative and risk taking
- 11:54Speaker 4: now. Yes. Think, you know, when I was a young person or even when we were in our 50s and 60s, men wore beautifully tailored suits. You know, there were always people in the entertainment business or in the music business that were a little outlandish in their outfits. But most men wore ties and jackets to their office there no matter where they went to work.
- 12:15Now I would say fashion is completely become more casual. I don't think many of them have ties anymore. Maybe they have one that they save for a special occasion. But you know everything has become much more casual.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Don't you think Kim? I think so. I think casual, I think people can express themselves more through clothing and there's less boundaries and I think
- 12:37Speaker 4: Since COVID also, don't forget, a lot of people didn't go to the office for a few years. So they they got adapted to the leisure wear and they got spoiled. So now when they had to go back to the office, they didn't wanna necessarily be in restrictive clothing.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I think Now we're getting a little break from the the carpet as they're talking about what black dandyism is. And by the way, for the first time ever, the all all the Met Gala co chairs are black men. So it's a really unique opportunity to shine a spotlight. But, yeah, underrepresented group that's really had a significant impact on style and culture. So I'm really excited to see what, everyone wears.
- 13:15Speaker 4: And, yeah, This going back to the fifties and sixties now what you're seeing. And where men always wore hats and women always wore hats. I mean, you know, when I remember growing up, if I went to a movie, we would wear we would be dressed.
- 13:29Speaker 3: And and
- 13:30Speaker 4: this is what they're you know, a lot of these dandies took that from, and they, of course, took the style and went way overboard.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Okay. Now they're talking to Coleman Domingo, who's an amazing actor. This is a look.
- 13:42Speaker 4: I think he's a co chair.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yes, he's one of the co chairs. What do we think? Well It looks royal to me or something.
- 13:50Speaker 4: It looks like, yes, it looks like Prince Philip could wear this when he's crowned. Yeah, know, he's wearing a long, what is that, a
- 13:57Speaker 3: long blue coat? A long blue, it's almost like
- 14:00Speaker 4: a cape. It looks like a graduation gown. It's a very beautiful color.
- 14:05Speaker 3: It does look like a graduation gown. I wonder if that's I think when they were doing their research with the stylist with the blue, they they were saying that a freed slave wanted to wear high fine blue.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Oh, this is going back to a slavery
- 14:20Speaker 3: issue here now? Very Yes, it's very on theme. It gives King, it gives you all of these moments. So it's, I think a lot, he's saying it's also a nod to Andre Leon Talley, who wore those hats. He always
- 14:33Speaker 4: wore the capes, Right, right. Okay. And who's the woman did you say in the red outfit here? Who is the woman in the red? Well, think she's the emcee from television.
- 14:47Speaker 3: She's working with Vogue but do you guys know?
- 14:50Speaker 4: I don't know who that is. It's not important. I don't recognize her. She'll never call me to go on the red carpet so it doesn't matter.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Well I don't know, maybe you never know.
- 15:02Speaker 4: See I love that, see that's where he is on the cover of Vogue with the red pants. It's almost like a Toreador look but you know the very decorated brass buttons on the short jacket. I don't, and I'm gonna be truthful, I don't remember anybody wearing those things. They did wear the longer jackets, the man with the chain.
- 15:22Speaker 3: It's Tayana Taylor, by the way, the
- 15:24Speaker 4: in the red. Well, and who is she? You
- 15:26Speaker 3: look fantastic.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Join us all by Am I supposed to know her?
- 15:30Speaker 3: I don't think you're gonna know anyone.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Don't think I'm gonna know one person. Alright. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
- 15:36But is she emceeing? Thank you, Coleman.
- 15:39Speaker 3: This is, like, Vogue's livestream. So they're she's so she
- 15:42Speaker 4: must be doing the red carpet. Oh, now let's see who that
- 15:45Speaker 3: is. Walking
- 15:47Speaker 4: That looks like a very pretty white dress with spider webs.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Remember we're just a little delayed on that one so let's We're go off with just looking at the carpet.
- 15:56Speaker 4: For those who don't realize this is all outdoors and they've tinted it up the steps of the museum. So it's very very interesting how they do it and you know if you come to the Met another time when you are in New York don't expect it to look like this. It's irregular cement steps going up into the center of the museum. Then it's
- 16:18Speaker 3: pouring rain today by the way.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Yeah, well it's perfect. It's perfect that they have the tents but these people have long tents that they have to go through and then up the stairs to the entrance. And we don't see them after they enter. They usually cut that off.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Who are you guys all excited to see tonight, by the way?
- 16:37Speaker 4: I'm excited to see Kim Kardashian because
- 16:39Speaker 3: I saw her children going into the hotel. So I know she's coming. We're looking at Sydney Sweeney now, who's always gorgeous. Yes. I'm
- 16:49Speaker 4: not a lover of this drape on this other dress, know, this shawl.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Oh, you mean on La la, but yeah, we're looking
- 16:56Speaker 4: at Sydney now. No, I know, I'm looking at her and I'm thinking to myself it takes away from her beautiful face and it sort of looks like she's got a sheet thrown or a blanket thrown over her shoulder.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, fair. I think Sydney looked good in all the black. I love the key neck now.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Now wait a minute, that looks like Hamilton, costume
- 17:12Speaker 3: out of Hamilton. It kind of does.
- 17:15Speaker 4: I love it though.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. It seems more costumed to me.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Well, is very costumey. Right, there's high heels. Oh, that's a pretty I like that dress. See, end up That's liking pretty simple. Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Which, I mean, I'm not overwhelmed by that. No. No. But I guess it has the the cape detail.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Well, no. It's a beautiful train. Train. Beautiful train. Cut.
- 17:39Well, these designers, you know, take a year. I don't know what this guy is doing. He's it definitely looks like he's out of Hamilton.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Maybe it's on purpose. He's holding up a ring.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Well, we're not getting that.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I don't know. Does anyone get these references?
- 17:51Speaker 4: Maybe he's getting engaged. No.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I think it has to be like a
- 17:54Speaker 4: royal situation. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe like, what's the program that we love to watch? There was a series.
- 18:03Oh, come on. With the different No, no, no. Oh my gosh. It was three seasons when they all got, each one got a different groom.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Bridgerton? Yes. Oh, I watched it last night.
- 18:15Speaker 4: He looks like Bridgerton.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Zach has never seen Bridgerton. Was like, we have to watch one episode last night. He's like, this is a show for girls. Can't.
- 18:24Everyone's saying put them on e. I agree. I think we could do some good red carpet reporting. Thanks, guys. Thank you.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Oh, see. This is very elegant. Yeah. This reminds me of, like, an African material which is beautifully draped. You know this I think is quite outstanding.
- 18:46Yeah, it's very pretty. Very beautiful. Oh just over a red blazer. I mean he's made the look.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I think every yeah. Everyone looks good. I'm excited to see the I'm to see Rihanna.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I like this woman's jewelry. Have to say. I think it's quite fascinating. Yeah. Really beautiful.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I do I love any sort of white embellished suit. I got some hot Yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Too. Well, white and black. Somehow, no matter where you go white, black, and red. Those three colors always work. No matter what it works on everybody and you can sort of take that look and tone it down to just a white long jacket and it looks great.
- 19:33You know, I mean you can't wear with the feathers. You're not gonna take that look But but, you know, so much of this is how creative people can be with just the same tailoring, but they take it over the top.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I'm also really excited to see Doce. It's her first Met Gala, and she's obviously having a huge year. I love her music. And Kylie Jenner. I I like always seeing the Kardashians and the Jenners, but Kylie and Timothee Chalamet Isn't she pregnant?
- 20:04No, she's had two kids, but I think she's pregnant again. That's in the news every day.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Oh, I saw. That's a rumor? Yeah. She was her tummy? Probably.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Oh. She she dates Timothee Chalamet and he's Oh, know that. Yeah. No. So they will be there together, which is exciting.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Okay. Well, I know you love him. Love him.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Okay. Someone said Gigi is too honest for E.
- 20:26Speaker 4: You're absolutely right. I gotta tell somebody they don't look good. That's not a good thing on the on the red carpet.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Honesty and just chilling at home with us I feel like is way
- 20:39Speaker 4: At home we can say it. I don't think if I was on the actual carpet, I would say it. Never See now look how handsome he looks, just in a plain black tuxedo. Oh, no. Wait a minute.
- 20:49Oh, I don't know who it is, but this is a heck of a dress.
- 20:52Speaker 3: This is a
- 20:53Speaker 4: Wow. This is a wow. This is feathers. This is Sparkles. This is a hat.
- 20:59This is a hat.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's on theme. It's for sure on theme.
- 21:03Speaker 4: But do we like it? Do I like it? Grandma Gail's gonna I don't know what she's doing there. Well, the feathers are the train is beautiful. Oh, the workmanship on the train is magnificent.
- 21:16See, this is the whole thing. You know, this is something that's just can't see
- 21:20Speaker 3: her face.
- 21:21Speaker 4: I don't know who it is either. Could be Diana Ross.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Wait, is she lying? Yes.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Yes. Is it? It's Diana Ross's daughter. No, it's not. It's her.
- 21:32That's not Tracy. That's Diana Ross. Oh, it's you know what? She's my she is my idol. Look at this.
- 21:38Look at how unbelievable. She's at the same age as me.
- 21:42Speaker 3: She looks is she? Yeah. She looks
- 21:44Speaker 4: so young. Look how well. She's she was one of the great entertainers of our of my time. But look at that. Look.
- 21:53See, that's a statement.
- 21:54Speaker 3: I mean, if you're that famous, you have to, you know, go out
- 21:58Speaker 4: with I was at a party about a year or so ago where she sang. That's Her voice
- 22:02Speaker 3: is still You have cool friends.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Well, I think that was the last party that I had any cool friends at, but it it but she but look how hard it is to get up those steps. Can you imagine us going up those steps? I can't even get out the front step of my building. Literally. So now these people are just, she's just in a pretty white suit that one that
- 22:24Speaker 3: they just How many men are helping her? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, to spread it
- 22:29Speaker 4: because they're spreading the tray.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Yeah. For the photos. And then they stop along the carpet to do their press. You know? And when she takes that off,
- 22:37Speaker 4: she has a still has a gorgeous body, by the way.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Well, when they go in to have dinner Oh,
- 22:41Speaker 4: this is all done then? That No. They go
- 22:43Speaker 3: in and have dinner and they watch it. But do they take the cape off?
- 22:46Speaker 4: Of course. I just can't walk around with that cape all night.

- 23:14Speaker 3: When she turned around. They wanna see Sarah Jessica Parker, but she's not coming this year because she's shooting something. I saw that. Which is kind of a letdown because I I like to
- 23:23Speaker 4: Oh, see, she can barely get up those steps. I'm telling you. This is this is these outfits are

- 24:13Speaker 4: Okay, she's almost at the top of the steps. Wow. That's a pretty black dress, whoever that is with the blonde

- 24:29Well, that's very pretty. She's always
- 24:33Speaker 4: Yeah. But how tall is she?
- 24:34Speaker 3: Very tall. Oh, wow.
- 24:36Speaker 4: It's seventy eight she looks.
- 24:39Speaker 3: It's like Well, it's the

- 25:06Speaker 4: Now let's see. I love gonna hot. Maybe she's gonna unbutton.
- 25:09Speaker 3: She's I think it's just a vest under it's like a classic. It is a two, what is it, two piece suit, three piece suit?

- 25:22Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well, if she can't get it perfectly tailored, who can? No, wait, but there's another person in white behind her.
- 25:30Speaker 3: I have a question. If you're not a celebrity and you're going to the Met Gala, do you still walk up the stairs?
- 25:35Speaker 4: Yes, but I don't think they send you up right away. So those people must be with her.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Maybe. I think it's the diamond buttons. I don't think there's any pins Okay. Or
- 25:46Speaker 4: Alright. It's very pretty. It's very pretty. Very glamorous. Okay.
- 25:51Those must all be her publicists that are walking with her.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know the etiquette on the red carpet, like, on
- 25:58Speaker 4: this level. Well, I think you get invited to go on this part than the regular people. People are paying I have the I have a feeling the tickets are, like, $50,000 to go to these this thing. It's not a It's not a tremendous
- 26:11Speaker 3: We're seeing a cane here, so that's one of the accessories that Well now you've got
- 26:16Speaker 4: two men.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Part of dandyism.
- 26:18Speaker 4: But I don't know where that hat Well, is he's wearing some kind of hat, I don't know.
- 26:24Speaker 3: It's weird. Well, maybe But then he's also wearing like a down coat?
- 26:30Speaker 4: I actually
- 26:31Speaker 3: don't actually It's don't hate the
- 26:33Speaker 4: like a long trench coat.
- 26:36Speaker 3: I don't know what the like I don't know.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I don't know. I can't quite get that. Now who's on the, who's that?
- 26:44Speaker 3: I'm watching on Vogue by the way, for people asking, just the live Oh,
- 26:47Speaker 4: so if you wanna go on, please watch it with us. He looks like he's wearing the same suit as she was wearing.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Well, that's Simone Biles. Right. Well, she's so cute. So cute, fun hair. We see a little collar moment.
- 27:02It's like
- 27:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's like her dickie.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Yeah, looks like a dicky over My
- 27:05Speaker 4: grandma, Gail and Kim love the dickies.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I think if I I would wear something like that, what she's wearing. Like, I love a, like, mini A line dress with a little collar detail.
- 27:14Speaker 4: She looks adorable. Mhmm. And what a body she has. I so love to watch her. She's like a delight.
- 27:20Now is this her boyfriend? Someone said none
- 27:24Speaker 3: of them look as chic as Grandma Gail and Kim. It's her football player husband.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Oh, she got married? They didn't invite me to the wedding. When did she get married?
- 27:35Speaker 3: Good question, let's look it up.
- 27:36Speaker 4: I didn't realize she got married. I knew she had a fiance, but
- 27:39Speaker 3: I didn't realize she could, she April 2023.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Oh, well, she's been married for three years. Grandma didn't know. Two
- 27:47Speaker 3: years, yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Okay. All right. Well, he's awfully good looking and she's a What a couple. Can you the athletic prowess that their children all have? So true.
- 27:57My gosh.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I think his name's Jonathan Owens.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I have no idea, but he's very handsome.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I she think had a baby, by the way.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Oh, I can't keep up. Nobody is telling me these things. When did she have a baby? Oh, I think she might have had a baby when she retired for a year or so. Yeah.
- 28:17Yeah, I think when she's
- 28:18Speaker 3: I think. Might be Is that true?
- 28:21Speaker 4: Well, let's not spread any rumors. So if we don't know definitely Oh,
- 28:25Speaker 3: maybe not. Okay. I don't know, I'm reading the comments. Oh, she didn't have a baby. She didn't
- 28:31Speaker 4: have Okay. A
- 28:32Speaker 3: Now Oh, that's cool.
- 28:33Speaker 4: This is very this looks like Chanel.
- 28:35Speaker 3: To me.
- 28:35Speaker 4: This is definitely Chanel couture. And I love the hat. The hat is like a nod to Ivanka to Melania's hat from the inauguration.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Piano looks like I wonder is it like a 20s style? No, don't know. It has to be from or 40s.
- 28:50Speaker 4: For the 40s, the war I guess. Is very Chanel pit, it's beautiful. What's underneath the long, see again, the long skirt, the long train and that I think it might be pants underneath it actually. Chanel always does the right thing. You've got the pearls, you've got the chameleon, you know?
- 29:08I mean,
- 29:09Speaker 3: it has to be, right?
- 29:10Speaker 4: Oh, sure that Chanel, we don't have to look it up.
- 29:12Speaker 3: And by the way, for people tuning in now, Grandma Gel and I are watching a live stream at home. We're invited, although we are on the block of the Met Museum right now, we could see it out our window. It was too hard to do the setup in front of the window, but we are close by and we're That's a doing beautiful a dress.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Look at this outfit, Kim. Don't know who the yellow and white.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yellow's in right now. Not quite that yellow. That's more like of a neon, but the bold colors on theme, I would say. Think we're getting a little commercial We're getting little
- 29:43Speaker 4: commercial So what do we think so far of the guests? What's our opinion from all of you out there?
- 29:51Speaker 3: I think that by the way, for those re asking, the theme is super fine tailoring black style. And I think people have been on theme so I
- 30:00Speaker 4: think it did. I I don't I don't get Diana Ross's No.
- 30:04Speaker 3: She wasn't she wearing
- 30:05Speaker 4: She was wearing a long That's white part of the theme.
- 30:08Speaker 3: All right, maybe. It's also tailored. Like suit, the importance of suiting. Like I don't think anyone has been besides maybe Gigi has been totally
- 30:15Speaker 4: Well here now, no, no, no. We're getting somebody now in the most gorgeous. That's cool. This is gorgeous. See, this is what I thought everything was gonna look like.
- 30:23Yeah. It's more
- 30:24Speaker 3: on the nose.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Because this is really all beaded all, you know, with the big shoulder pads, which was very reminiscent of the forties and the fifties And in the men in Harlem, you know,
- 30:36Speaker 3: that really were It's the the like pattern. Only he's taken it
- 30:40Speaker 4: to the next level because it's all beaded and crushed it.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Right. Right. And I think he's
- 30:46Speaker 4: got a cane as well. So he's really done the look.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of reference points for this theme. So I think people are kind
- 30:52Speaker 4: of making it Well, they're trying.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Yeah. They're trying. I think I don't hate anything so far.
- 30:58Speaker 4: This looks like a royal. See, some of them look like royal None
- 31:01Speaker 3: them all white suit moment.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Which is very pretty.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I kind of like that we're seeing more from the men this year because usually I feel like it's an afterthought with any award show or red carpet. I'm like, okay, they're wearing a suit. Like, let's see what the girls wear. But I'm actually more excited by a lot of the men's looks.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Alright. I know we've seen a bunch of people. Oh, there's we just missed something. Let's see. Look at the necklaces on some of these and the accessories are fabulous.
- 31:28Yeah. And this isn't just, I don't know who this is but she's quite beautiful. Oh now this is your sailor hat.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Wait, backless is kind of insane. Oh this is like really avant garde. This looks like something from out of space. I don't love that it's a crop top. I think But again, the long You know what I feel?
- 31:49Like, I think it's
- 31:50Speaker 4: They such try don't too think
- 31:51Speaker 3: they need the cane and the big piece and the hat. You think so? I think eliminate one to all of them. Yeah.
- 32:00Speaker 4: I I I think this this would not be of choice of and she's probably oh, that's there's Diana Ross without the cape. They're interviewing her.
- 32:09Speaker 3: No. I think she oh oh, you think she took the cape?
- 32:11Speaker 4: Of course,
- 32:12Speaker 3: took No, it
- 32:14Speaker 4: no, no. She took it off.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah. They're laughing at She had to like, they're laughing because they're
- 32:18Speaker 4: And she's so hot. She can't but look at, she's perspiring the poor woman. Was so, that cape must have weighed four hundred pounds.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yeah. And she's actually on on tour right now, but I think her son was like, you have to go. We love a family involved moment.
- 32:33Speaker 4: I think her I think her daughter is coming because I saw something in
- 32:36Speaker 3: the papers. Really cool look. I think they probably had to shut the whole carpet down pretty much for her to get up those stairs.
- 32:44Speaker 4: They're replaying it now. That cape. Yeah. And that cape had to weigh an awful lot.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Actually, says her eight grandchildren's names and her children's names are all in the cape. Oh, isn't that everyone's embroidered in there. Well, that's a thing
- 32:57Speaker 4: of beauty.
- 32:57Speaker 3: That might be our we love, you know, a family moment.
- 33:00Speaker 4: No, that's just something to hand down forever. That's an heirloom.
- 33:03Speaker 3: The hat is really cool.
- 33:06Speaker 4: She's cool. Let's face it. Diana Ross is cool. And it's so funny for those who remember, and probably most of you don't, she performed in Central Park on a night like tonight where it was raining and they had to stop it and they had to start it. And she kept singing.
- 33:23She sang through the rain and it was one of the great free performances in Central Park many years ago.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Now do we think that her daughter is going to do something similar or different? Like do you think their stylists talk before?
- 33:35Speaker 4: I'm sure they talk, but I don't know if they're going to I would doubt they would do something the same. I don't think the daughter is going to take away from the mom.
- 33:42Speaker 3: The starlight for a second. Let me see if I can get it back.
- 33:44Speaker 4: That looks better without the light.
- 33:46Speaker 3: All right. Well, right. Well, by the way, we'll see if it goes off
- 33:48Speaker 4: again. Okay. Oh, there's Simone Oh, look at her train. We didn't notice that when she was on the red carpet. She might, yeah.
- 33:56Simone Biles has That's a cute. Yeah. Oh, she is cute.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Like it. I think the color is really pretty.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Well, is beautiful. It is beautiful. Really nice.
- 34:07Speaker 3: It's like very mini in the front.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Very, very mini in the back. Yeah. But then
- 34:12Speaker 3: we have the cover the big bow covering. Right. I think it's fun. Which is fun for her. Someone said they remember Diana Ross's concert in the park.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Oh, was one of the greatest. One of the great nights of New York. Used to have all those free concerts, which we still have, but you know because of security and so many other issues now they have less of them but unfortunately because they were made the quality of life so terrific in the city. Yeah. Here's just trying to figure out how to get her up the aisle but hers doesn't look as heavy.
- 34:43Simone's looks like it'll be fine.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, are we leaving the light off?
- 34:47Speaker 4: Is that what think we can leave the light off. Don't get upset with it. It's probably getting overheated.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Okay.
- 34:55Speaker 4: All right, here comes another one with a little bit of a train. We haven't
- 34:58Speaker 3: seen that like burgundy. Oh, did we see that burgundy?
- 35:00Speaker 4: No, that's new. Oh, here's the one I liked, the Chanel one.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Yeah, this is Grandma Galle approved.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Yep, definitely, definitely love it. I mean, not for me, but for some young gorgeous girl, I think it's divine and she looks beautiful in it. Yeah. I like the little shirt reference. You see that underneath the thing, it makes it look like a little collar.
- 35:20Yeah. Very pretty detail.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Custom Chanel, very sculptural. And then
- 35:25Speaker 4: I think it's pants, Kim. There's satin pants under there.
- 35:28Speaker 3: I think it was like inspired by twenties, thirties Chanel runway. Could be. Is what they're Is
- 35:35Speaker 4: that what they're saying?
- 35:35Speaker 3: Is what they're saying. Okay. And I think like it's, I'm always interested in how these celebrities do the research and like figure out what they wanna wear. Obviously I
- 35:45Speaker 4: don't think the celebrities do it. I think the designers or their stylists come with suggestions.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Think it's what I A
- 35:51Speaker 4: lot of them
- 35:52Speaker 3: like like to be involved. And it's a group effort. I'm sure. Obviously, the designer, she worked with Chanel, they Yeah. To
- 36:02Speaker 4: Now we're getting suiting in the next one, the picture that's there. See, that's the typical, like you were talking about Kim, the pinstripe with the pin. This pin is a feather pin, is beautiful. And the necktie, the little skinny necktie, which was very forties. I don't know why that went off.
- 36:20I like that. Now this is very, this sweater, two black and white sweaters look very Missoni I don't know whose they are.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah they actually looks like there's a gown in the coat.
- 36:30Speaker 4: Oh here it's a coat again. Oh that's a coat and this must be a Japanese inspired because
- 36:40Speaker 3: that I
- 36:40Speaker 4: don't know. Look at the big, look at this big extended shoulder pads. Is that?
- 36:45Speaker 3: Yeah, someone said we should do a recap tomorrow on our top 10 best worst looks. So we'll definitely
- 36:51Speaker 4: I will absolutely do it. Thanks for the suggestion.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Also, you're just tuning into the live now, or if you did a little bit earlier and you wanna see the whole thing, we're going to be releasing this as a podcast episode that
- 37:04Speaker 4: you can watch and listen to in full. But the thing is with the podcast, how are they gonna see it? Oh, they'll see it because
- 37:10Speaker 3: it The video comes along will have the a video, it'll be on YouTube, but we'll do our best to describe what we're seeing.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Exactly, okay. But
- 37:17Speaker 3: yeah, it'll be good to watch with the video.
- 37:19Speaker 4: See now we're getting another white. I think this is a gentleman. Can't with a, yeah?
- 37:25Speaker 3: No. Oh, it's Lupita Nyong'o. Oh. We'll get her back.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Oh, here's the woman I want. Wonder who's the gold. The gold dress by, I wonder? Does it say? Because I can't Let's read
- 37:41Speaker 3: see, I don't know. It's interesting to do like silver earrings with a gold dress.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Well they're probably diamond, they're not silver. I'm guaranteed some jeweler gave her the long diamonds. I can't see who that is.
- 37:57Speaker 3: She looks like a statue. Anyway, I think so basically she's wearing Miu Miu and she worked with her friend who's also a stylist and an editor.
- 38:10Speaker 4: And she's so beautiful.
- 38:12Speaker 3: And she thought of a lot of like ways I think to interpret this look is kind of what she was saying because but it's a celebration of Zelda who was a fashion designer in the late forties. Do you I
- 38:26Speaker 4: don't Kimmy, wasn't there in the late forties. I was I was in I was in a diaper. But I'm sure, you know, a lot of these must be
- 38:36Speaker 3: So a woman, but she was trained in men's tailoring and men's fashion.
- 38:39Speaker 4: Look at this how pretty this is.
- 38:40Speaker 3: And she brought that to the female Okay. So, you know, a little bit riskier, I guess.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Well, I don't think she's risky. I think it's fair. I think that's something somebody could wear. I actually think it's quite beautiful. Yeah.
- 38:59No, that's very pretty.
- 39:01Speaker 3: It's definitely more feminine than a lot of the other things we're seeing, but I think like mixing
- 39:11Speaker 4: You think the gold? I don't know.
- 39:13Speaker 3: No, I think just like
- 39:15Speaker 4: I think she's off. I don't think she's really got the theme. How do you like I
- 39:20Speaker 3: think she's like expressing something.
- 39:22Speaker 4: I don't know what she's expressing. It's very pretty, but I'm not It's glamorous. It's glamorous. Let's put it that way. Like,
- 39:30Speaker 3: you know, it's not Mew Mew's fault, but I just don't know how I feel. But anyway,
- 39:36Speaker 4: she just All right, here you cut me.
- 39:38Speaker 3: So let's see what's now. Going
- 39:47Speaker 4: taking off the What do you
- 39:48Speaker 3: think hair jewelry? Like when people have accessories This or
- 39:52Speaker 4: is a bandeau and a bottom. Let's see, this very much like a Vogue costume. Like a cover
- 39:59Speaker 3: on But I
- 39:59Speaker 4: think she's also naked. I think that's just strictly covering the bust.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Yeah, not the back. Not the back,
- 40:05Speaker 4: it's backless.
- 40:06Speaker 3: It is kind of cool actually. I And like it with the jacket over. Well, you
- 40:09Speaker 4: have to wear it with the jacket. Oh, at this beautiful jacket. See this And Joey King. Yeah. She she's wearing the That's well that I can see.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I'd wear that actually.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Oh gosh, Kim. But it's quite beautiful.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Yeah. It's quite beautiful. The green. I like the embellishment. Yeah.
- 40:27Speaker 4: I think green has taken over
- 40:29Speaker 3: And all she's like tiny and I feel like that suits her, you know?
- 40:33Speaker 4: It's very, well, they're all tiny. This suit thing I'm not quite getting yet, but maybe when she puts the jacket on, yeah, it's completely and nothing in She the just has little it is cool. I mean, you know, it is cool.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Oh wow, this is, I didn't see the shirt and the Yeah, see the tie tie. That's fashion. Yes.
- 40:54Speaker 4: And that's fashion that it's suiting, it's a suit, but yet it's an inversion that you'd never imagine a suit to look like. Well here now this is three gentlemen. One is wearing the, I'm telling you one goes back to the 1800s Then a lot of long coats, a lot of long coats over the jackets.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Okay, this is kind of cool. Yeah. Big tie, the hat
- 41:23Speaker 4: How is this suitor look again?
- 41:25Speaker 3: Right, he's
- 41:26Speaker 4: wearing And a again the broach. The brooch. Brooches, I'm telling we've to go to the flea market, Kim. That's going be there on 6th Avenue and go over and see what they've got. All the costume jewelry that we can take out.
- 41:38The hat being like, oh, look
- 41:39Speaker 3: at the oversized bag. That's interesting. And he's wearing a glove.
- 41:44Speaker 4: One glove or two gloves?
- 41:45Speaker 3: Two gloves. Okay. Embellished gloves.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Well, maybe he's on a trip.
- 41:49Speaker 3: The big suitcase is interesting.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, Bad maybe he's a world
- 41:55Speaker 3: bunny.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Oh. And what's his claim to musician? Musician.
- 42:00Speaker 3: All right. You know, singer.
- 42:03Speaker 4: See, this looks like a royal theme. The couple coming up now and I gathered there together. She's in beautiful long white tails and she's in a black and white long dress which is quite elegant. And again, with this very long white train in the back. Yeah.
- 42:21But this fellow looks very handsome, Yeah. Very
- 42:25Speaker 3: Very dapper. Means always like it's, you know, a Hollywood couple that a lot of people look
- 42:30Speaker 4: at his vest as all diamonds. For those who can't, I have to lean forward to see it, but
- 42:37Speaker 3: it's Yeah, all diamond necklace. So they're kind of coordinated. They're very chic.
- 42:42Speaker 4: They're black and white. Yeah.
- 42:44Speaker 3: A lot, yeah. That's a beautiful So I feel like people are either tons of color or black and white. And white seems to
- 42:52Speaker 4: have won the day so far. Oh, we were saying that. Now there's a crimson dress, which is very pretty. Happen to I like that
- 43:00Speaker 3: don't know what the bottom is. That's almost Bridgertony also.
- 43:03Speaker 4: I think a lot of this looks like Bridgerton. Yeah. All right. I mean,
- 43:07Speaker 3: there's nothing ugly though. Well, think some of them
- 43:10Speaker 4: are ugly. Was a white outfit that was sort of futuristic that I thought could have, I've seen a lot better. Not that they're ugly. I think some of them try too hard. Yeah.
- 43:24And that's my problem with these things.
- 43:26Speaker 3: But then like you don't wanna underdo it and like nobody's talking about you.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Well, that's the whole thing. Are they doing it because it's beautiful or that it's cutting edge or that it's the theme or is it just to be talked about? Yeah. And that's a fine line. See, Diana Ross's was fabulous because it also was gonna be talked about because the thing was so outstanding.
- 43:46Speaker 3: I mean, with a red carpet, you don't wanna look like if you typically are kinda understated, you don't wanna do something off brand.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Right.
- 43:53Speaker 3: But I also think the whole point really is like for media coverage and for the designers to wanna work with you and all these things. So I don't think you wanna under do it.
- 44:04Speaker 4: No, I'm sure you're right. I'm sure you're right. I don't know. Who's, now what are they doing now?
- 44:10Speaker 3: This is ASAP Rocky that we're looking at I think. And yes, one of the co chairs.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Okay.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And I'm just looking. I mean, the black and white, the suit, the diamonds The brooch. Brooch. Like, we're seeing the same things. He looks good.
- 44:32Yeah. He's very handsome pillow. Very handsome So he's saying his On his cane. Oh, yeah. He's got
- 44:39Speaker 4: the walking stick. It's not called a cane. It's a walking stick.
- 44:42Speaker 3: So he it's very Harlem Nights.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Yeah. And Cab Calloway used to do it all the time and he used to tap with it on during his dance routines. So he used to tap
- 44:51Speaker 3: then catch it. I mean, was a whole deal. Right. You have I Louboutin we saw like an exposed boxer on the pant. I'm trying to see closer.
- 45:05Speaker 4: Oh, he's showing you the He red loves he loves the the red shoe.
- 45:10Speaker 3: And then it's actually an umbrella that he's holding. Is it? Or Yeah. It's an umbrella. I wanna Oh, it was raining.
- 45:18Yeah, honestly. So he is on theme. He is prepared. That's You sure it's an umbrella? Yeah, I think that's what He said his grandmother is in love with Coleman Domingo.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Okay.
- 45:32Speaker 3: So he's like really excited to see him tonight. Okay. If you could be a date of one of the people on the carpet tonight, who would that be?
- 45:44Speaker 4: None of these people. Oh. I can honestly say. I think they're a little too heft for me. Yeah.
- 45:52I need somebody conservative. The nine is young, maybe somebody more conservative will walk in. What do you mean? Well, just in a regular nice suit. Oh, okay.
- 46:02That I don't have that can feel like we're not in showbiz. I don't think it's gonna happen tonight. No, it's not
- 46:10Speaker 3: that I definitely gonna
- 46:11Speaker 4: think this is the trains seem to be very big this year. Now who is this?
- 46:15Speaker 3: Mindy Kaling. Okay. Great writer and This is interesting. Now they're showing Bad Bunny again. He's It's supposed just be kind growing on me, this look.
- 46:28Like, like a chocolate brown.
- 46:31Speaker 4: And he's got a gold glove.
- 46:33Speaker 3: It's definitely out there, but it kind of goes in a weird way. Like it doesn't go when it goes. Yeah.
- 46:38Speaker 4: Well, his shirt goes with his hat. He's got a look and it goes with the bag. But like why Maybe a traveler. Maybe he's a traveler going through time. He's wearing Prada.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Oh. And he said they worked on this look for a couple months. Really? So obviously a lot of thought had to have gone Oh, I'm sure. Into
- 46:57Speaker 4: I'm sure. Because I'm like,
- 46:58Speaker 3: do the gloves go with the hat, with the bag?
- 47:00Speaker 4: Everything goes. I think, think, I'm telling you, he's traveling through time. Grandma can describe that whole thing. Through time. It's going through times.
- 47:09Oh.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Yeah. He's a traveler. I I don't know. I think he he does he does look good, and he I think is, like, infusing Puerto Rico into the look also.
- 47:24Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 47:25Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 47:26Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't think anybody in Puerto Rico is wearing that hat. It's a 100 degree it's a 100 degrees there all the time. It's very it's hot there all year round. I don't think he's I don't know.
- 47:37Maybe it's when he when somebody from Puerto Rico came to New York, maybe they wore this outfit.
- 47:44Speaker 3: I mean, because
- 47:44Speaker 4: I don't a think too many people wear that hat.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I guess it's like the basket weave kind of
- 47:50Speaker 4: Oh, is it really? The hat. I can't see. I can't see it. It looks like It is What's definitely, on the
- 47:56Speaker 3: top? It's like straw, it's like basket. Oh, you're right.
- 47:59Speaker 4: So maybe it's to keep the sun out. You know what? There's a story here. There's a story here that we're not getting.
- 48:05Speaker 3: We're definitely I want him to explain it.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Right. But he probably is and we're not listening.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 48:10Speaker 4: See, now this is tailored, the next outfit, this gentleman. Who is that? Tyler Perry?
- 48:15Speaker 3: Yes. See, he looks Grandma knows someone.
- 48:18Speaker 4: I know him. Well, I love his movies. I would go on his arm. See, but he's also wearing the long cape.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Let's wait a second because we
- 48:27Speaker 4: wanna be We're still on this. Yeah. Caught caught up to Any other comments?
- 48:32Speaker 3: Yeah. What are you guys liking so far? What do you wanna hear from us? Where are you watching from if you're just tuning in? I know people are coming in and out of the live.
- 48:45So tell us what you're thinking. I don't know
- 48:50Speaker 4: what I'm thinking to tell you the truth. I was know. This handsome devil showing the guy with the black jacket.
- 48:55Speaker 3: That's Aesop Rocky, just said that about him. Like Yeah, must. I like him. He's cool. He's very popular.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Oh, is? Yeah. Alright. Of of No. He's wearing a he's got a walking It's an umbrella.
- 49:10No. It's not an umbrella. No. Think It's got a wearing walking stick.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Are you sure? Yes. I'm like, no. It's an umbrella. Oh, it is?
- 49:16Yes. Maybe.
- 49:18Speaker 4: Whatever it is, he looks as
- 49:19Speaker 3: a walking stick, but it's an umbrella.
- 49:22Speaker 4: You might be right. Well, this is now here's the suiting.
- 49:29Speaker 3: Yeah. That's even, like, the pose. Like, how would you pose on the red carpet? I like you would
- 49:35Speaker 4: just be like Guys, wearing they're all wearing sunglasses. Anybody who knows they're in New York now, you don't need sunglasses. You need window windshield wipers on your eyes. It's raining so cameras.
- 49:44Speaker 3: The light of the cameras. Now
- 49:46Speaker 4: who is this? Wear it.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I feel like this is just us being like, who is this?
- 49:49Speaker 4: Who is this? Who are these people?
- 49:54Speaker 3: Another train.
- 49:56Speaker 4: I have to tell you, I wouldn't pay $50,000 to to go up on I
- 50:00Speaker 3: celebrity culture and entertainment and pop culture, so I think I would. I'm curious what say inside. Should have
- 50:07Speaker 4: a little faster movement. They've got a million people online waiting to go in there.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Yeah. I wonder. I guess they need time to talk to all the press. Alright. Get their photos.
- 50:17Speaker 4: You think each person get goes on the in the room and talks to them?
- 50:21Speaker 3: Wait, guys, this is exciting. We have Anne Hathaway. Let's see what she's wearing.
- 50:25Speaker 4: White shirt, which I love.
- 50:26Speaker 3: A white button down. This would be your look. Yes. But you know what? This I'd wear out for dinner.
- 50:30Is this like, this is not crazy. No, it's beautiful. A black and It's a beaded skirt and Like a button I wear that.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Yes. And it's all slicked up the back. It's perfect. But what is the reference to this?
- 50:43Speaker 3: Maybe the, I guess it's tailored shirt, right?
- 50:45Speaker 4: Okay, that's true. But that would be my
- 50:48Speaker 3: And the beading. Like, we've seen that detail kind of throughout. The way, everyone's talking about Anne Hathaway. Like, she is looking younger by the day. How does that make sense?
- 50:58She looks the same as she did ten years ago. I think they're all doing this like new biohacking.
- 51:05Speaker 4: What is that?
- 51:06Speaker 3: Like they're trying to, like they, I don't even know, but it's like something on the cellular level to literally
- 51:13Speaker 4: DH. I think that basically the cosmetic surgeons are very busy.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Yeah, who knows? It's a very clean look, I feel like.
- 51:22Speaker 4: Yeah, she looks good. I like her hair pulled back, she's very, very it's Carolina Herrera. Ah, no wonder, we like her. That's have the a great line.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Did our cover party for the magazine we were in, Spotlight Magazine, at the Carolina Herrera store in Palm Beach. Right.
- 51:43Speaker 4: And and I think I wore a white shirt, white eyelet shirt. Always makes it's always a classic.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Yeah. I think a lot of people are, like, trying to channel Andre Leon Talley.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Okay.
- 52:00Speaker 3: And everyone's kind of thinking about him while getting dressed and picking out their look. I'm excited to see how Anne looks on the carpet. Why don't
- 52:11Speaker 4: she walked up the carpet? She's already upstairs.
- 52:14Speaker 3: No, think this is pre carpet, the interview. Then Oh, they walk, then they they
- 52:18Speaker 4: then here, at this one. Who is that? The top is beautiful. The lace top is beautiful. The buttons are beautiful, but she's basically wearing just nothing on the bottom.
- 52:34She's wearing underwear.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Wait, I can't like fully see yet.
- 52:38Speaker 4: Well, you're gonna see it in a minute. Okay. Let's see. Well, they didn't even take a shot of her going up the stairs because there was
- 52:45Speaker 3: a Wait. Are you not talking about this?
- 52:47Speaker 4: No. Oh. There was somebody else in a beautiful
- 52:52Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 52:54Speaker 4: No. Big cape. Big cape is a theme. Big cape is a theme. Beaded sleeves, which are beautiful.
- 53:04And she's not wearing a big necklace. See, that's good. Oh, she is too.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Yeah, the chains of
- 53:09Speaker 4: diamonds. Oh, chains of diamonds. Very pretty. Here goes again with that long thing where we need six don't know. Or eight And it's like
- 53:16Speaker 3: scary a little, but like pretty.
- 53:20Speaker 4: I don't know. But I don't get this as suiting.
- 53:22Speaker 3: I don't This really
- 53:23Speaker 4: to me is not suiting. I don't like this at all.
- 53:26Speaker 3: It's just too much. It's funny, the people I don't like also don't have good outfits.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Well, don't know the person, so I
- 53:33Speaker 3: don't want her to take it personally. By the way, I think Rihanna might
- 53:39Speaker 4: See, she just took it off. Interesting because they can't walk up that stair.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Or just they want the opportunity
- 53:47Speaker 4: to just wear it to come in and then that's it because it's very difficult.
- 53:51Speaker 3: It's for the photo and they really want the like reveal moment. Yes. But I I don't like a reveal unless it's a reveal. Like I don't want you to just take your jacket off. Like I wanna see a different, well let's say we're getting a third reveal.
- 54:03She's taking off another layer. We'll see it in a second. But I think Rihanna who's coming, she just got to the mark. I think she's pregnant, people online are saying. Oh really?
- 54:12So that's exciting. All right. Did she take off another layer? I think so Dua Lipa. I don't know.
- 54:23It's her don't
- 54:24Speaker 4: It's very you know, it's exciting. I don't love it.
- 54:30Speaker 3: How do you guys feel about our lives so far? Any comments? Any questions for us? So looking at at what else is going on here, this is Lewis Hamilton. And again, you see the embellishment.
- 54:48And an all white suit.
- 54:49Speaker 4: But a short jacket and a, like, a beret type of hat.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Yep. I think he's a co chair. Okay. So that's a big deal, obviously. I might have to borrow one of your broaches.
- 55:06Yeah. Just feel like a thing now. I'm telling you. People are like, it's like we're hanging out with you. That's the idea.
- 55:12Speaker 4: Well, they are hanging you are hanging out with us. We're we're sort of got a million screens here. We should see the setup. We've got a camera here. We've got a camera there.
- 55:20We've got an iPod over here. Not an iPod.
- 55:24Speaker 3: IPad. This is an Apple commercial.
- 55:27Speaker 4: This is an Apple commercial and it's not so easy. Kimmy was terrific. And our little mics, we've got our little mics on our lapel, which I hope you can hear perfectly with. The only failure we had was the light. The light burnt out, got over.
- 55:42I don't think those lights last more than maybe I think they get too hot and they
- 55:46Speaker 3: turn There's other like ring lights you can keep plugged in, but I was not prepared for that.
- 55:50Speaker 4: All right, we don't need it. Everybody can see us.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Yeah. We're still looking at this like white
- 55:58Speaker 4: Well, think they're just talking now. I think the museum offers so many things for people to come in to see, the Children's Museum at the Met, the old wing, the sculpture gardens, there's so many wonderful things, the Pyramid, the Temple Of Denver. So for those who don't live in New York, you could probably look at the different collections online that they have and just visit the museum through video because it is beautiful. There's so many different parts that each time every month they try different shows and it takes years in preparation to do these things. So it's very exciting.
- 56:44It's really, I'm privileged because I live very close and I try to go often to the museum, and there's never the same show. There's always a standard, they have permanent collection, but they always have a rotating shows at the museum as all the museums do.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Yeah. We're looking at Kerry Washington here.
- 57:05Speaker 4: That's beautiful. I actually love this. See, I'm telling you, I think Bridgerton had a very big-
- 57:09Speaker 3: I'm not getting Bridgerton from that.
- 57:11Speaker 4: You're not? I'm look at fitted waist and the full skirt, they're very 1800s. Not that hot I don't know. It looks like Jane Austen did all these Yeah, yeah. Oh, broach again, Kim.
- 57:24Speaker 3: Oh, there's Walter, Walton Goggins. I think we're getting a lot of the White Lotus cast tonight.
- 57:29Speaker 4: Well, I'm sure people, other people love that. I still haven't seen it. This is now a long coat. He's wearing a long caftan. He's in three, now she's wearing a long skirt.
- 57:43Look at this outfit Kim. That's the one. All right, what's Walton doing? He's three different tiers. He's got a long black coat.
- 57:51All right. He's gonna show it to you, a long skirt.
- 57:55Speaker 3: I like this actually. It's gonna tie. It's like deconstructed suit, isn't it? Like, looks like it's kind of coming apart.
- 58:04Speaker 4: It's not a suit. He's showing you a twirl skirt. It's like a pleated long skirt.
- 58:09Speaker 3: Also, I love how he's like being fun on the carpet.
- 58:12Speaker 4: Like that's That's that's what makes the show. Right? You know? Like, be a
- 58:16Speaker 3: character, be yourself. He looks like he's having a good time. Spike Lee. Spike Lee, just Whatever. Like, he's so underwhelming to me.
- 58:30Because you see him at the basketball games. But he wears like, he's wearing a Nick hat, literally. That's all his whole personality. No, this is all he's obviously influential.
- 58:39Speaker 4: Well, he's showing a New York hat, which good for him. Back to Walden. Right. Well, like his outfit.
- 58:49Speaker 3: He does look cool. I wanna see who he's wearing. Me see if Do buying you think
- 58:55Speaker 4: anybody ever is gonna buy that and will never get into the stores?
- 58:59Speaker 3: I don't think Walmart
- 59:01Speaker 4: is ever gonna buy that outfit. I don't know. Is that his wife, Spike Lee's wife?
- 59:11Speaker 3: Who is his?
- 59:11Speaker 4: I don't know. Who is his wife? He's having the best time, this guy. They're trying to get him off the runway. Somebody, they're trying to move him along.
- 59:19Speaker 3: I like love the pleated skirt on him. I think it looks so good.
- 59:23Speaker 4: Whoever it is is very tall. Again with a long white thing. Oh, this is too many white capes and she's not Oh, and look underneath. Okay. Who is that?
- 59:35Why am
- 59:36Speaker 3: I blanking on her name? She's so famous.
- 59:38Speaker 4: She is?
- 59:40Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Guys, help. Megan Thee Stallion. Right? Right?
- 59:48Speaker 4: Don't look Yeah. At have no idea who that is.
- 59:52Speaker 3: Yeah. Yes. Megan Stallion. Okay. All right.
- 59:54Who did Hair obsessed. And who did I want this outfit without the jacket. Because everyone's doing this. It look it's almost like Marilyn Monroe. Like, everyone's wearing, like, the sparkly busty thing with the white
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: Except nobody looks like Marilyn Monroe.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: I know. But I'm just like, I love the hair. And I wish we focused on that.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: It sort of looks like a Cleop Cleopatra look.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: But does the dress?
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: No. Like, I don't I feel
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: like it doesn't go.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: Well, I think they haven't quite got her breasts in the dress. That could be on purpose. I'm sure it's on purpose, but I feel like in any given moment, walking up the stairs, one of them is gonna come out. We're gonna see a little too much of something.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be good TV?
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: I think She's she's
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: gonna gonna twirl. I love the glam. I don't know. I wish they all talked and were like, only one person can wear a white long coat.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: That's the issue. Now you've got a lot of these long white coats. I'm Diana kind Ross walked up with the first one.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: It's almost And I'm so glad she had that first moment.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Well, sure they did it on purpose.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: You know, okay, Doce, this is exciting. Her first met having a huge year. She worked with Pharrell and Louis Vuitton, really inspired by the book that we mentioned earlier that the whole, you know, theme is on. And I guess it was specifically one character from the book that she was inspired by. Okay.
- 1:01:28Which is interesting. And she's
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: wearing, like, shorts with a
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: long
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: white jacket, like, with tails and boots. It And looks you know what? And she's fun looking. She's she's cute and it looks cute on her.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: I think it's super fun. By the way, the book is Monica L. Miller's book Slaves to Fashion, Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, diasporic identity.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: So Well, that's the look of all over the world. So that's what the whole thing references. I think we're seeing a lot
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: of things that were created. Oh, wait a minute. They're just showing her a look from the Grammys. Oh. She
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: How could that little girl wear those big I
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: like that she's in, like, a low free boot, chunky boot. She's not in like, I like the honestly, don't mind the Louis Vuitton logos all over.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Like I think she looks great. I think she looks terrific.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: It's yeah, like not huge.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: No, but it's nice. She's not making a big statement here. Looks very cute. She's wearing a suit. She's got it very tailored and I'm sort of happy that she doesn't have a long wide cape.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Okay, now we're seeing Sabrina Carpenter. I've been waiting to see her. I'm such a fan.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: She's another one that's wearing a bathing suit. It's not just underwear. It's just underwear.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: It's kind of her vibe.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: But I saw there was somebody else that went on with with the look like With the
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: short in the front and then the longer. There's nothing. She's wearing all those little tails.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: It's almost
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: like a tuxedo nod with the tail on
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: And the this looks like a playboy bunny.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I don't know if it's fashion. It's almost to me seems like a costume she'd wear at one of her shows. It's a That's correct. One of her outfit changes, like in her concerts. But she's wearing
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: a Louis Vuitton, the the trunk bag. Oh yeah. See the woman's holding it for her. That's a very cool bag.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: And she has the same white collar detail.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: Which refers back to the suiting.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Right. She And it is a suit. She's wearing a suit.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: Well, she's wearing a form of a jacket.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Yeah. It's like giant heels. She's tiny. She's She's shorter than us.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: Nobody's shorter than us.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: Yes, she is. Or maybe the same. I mean, on brand for her, but Oh, look at
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: what is What is that? That's sort of fun. I like it. This looks like something I wore in the fifties. Oh, she's not getting much press on that.
- 1:03:56But again, a long white. See, that's where the, feel A
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: lot of trains.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: Lot of And
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: a lot of like,
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: now here's a lot of backless dresses too. Backless, this is in
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: the front.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: A
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: short white dress. It's lapels in the front. Collar.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: Little black
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: skirt. This is cute.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: I can see you in that Kim.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: I don't love a backless moment. Oh, it's backless She looks great. She is so cool. And she's wearing Qurash and eBay. Okay.
- 1:04:30And I think, like, it's very her. Yeah. It's very it's very shopping vintage on eBay forever. Like, she has that That look. Look.
- 1:04:43She loves vintage. She's like, why not for my Met look? Good to her.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: She's true to herself.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Authenticity. Yep, totally. She's been interviewing celebrities for Vogue Oh. In years past.
- 1:04:59I guess not maybe not this year. But she she's usually very, like, on point with fashion stuff. Okay. But I feel like just with this theme in general, there's just like, there's the extravagance and then there's also like a more minimal way to do it.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: Well, I think the younger ones like Simone and like this girl, you know, some of the younger ones are keeping it quiet. They're not going as over the top because they know what looks first of all, if you're short, they know what looks good on them.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: And they know that much changed. I think she was wearing something else earlier,
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: Oh, maybe.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: So maybe it was something bigger earlier. I'm gonna do a quick Google. What was she wearing earlier, guys?
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: I don't think she was wearing something earlier. No.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: They were.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: Oh, She did a change?
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: She did a change. Oh, I see. Yeah, people are saying they liked her look better earlier. This is what she was wearing earlier. Can you see that?
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: Oh, well, is quite a maybe when she's
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: She's working a long Black black
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: like pinstripe Right suited but you know what if she's working, if she's working it's hard. Now who is this? Nobody. And who is that?
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Oh, that's
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: In a mustard colored suit. See this is more of what I thought was gonna be on. More of men in tailored suits that are funky looking because that's really what it was. It was a takeoff on the styles of traditional men's suits that men in Harlem made much more extravagant and added color that was really more of their feelings. Expressing.
- 1:06:49Expressing their own emotions and feelings. So it was much more alive looking than the standard man who went to work in a black suit or a navy suit. Now I don't know who this is. Ashley Graham. Okay.
- 1:07:04She looks nice. She's not in a suiting, but no.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: No, it is. It's like the structured shoulder corset suit kind of bluff. Okay. Again with a long I'm of bored. She looks but like, I don't know my thoughts.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: Oh, now wait a minute.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Okay. We're getting, were you gonna, oh, I thought you were gonna sneeze.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: Getting another one. She's in Louis Vuitton.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: The Bodysuits,
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: not bathing suits, they're bodysuits.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know why you were saying bathing suits.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: You know what, didn't have the right wording. They're bodysuits. They're dressed up bodysuits.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Yeah, with no pants. Exactly. And really high shoes.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Right. They look like they belong at Radio City Music Hall, like part of the Rockettes. You know, this is very, very much that kind of look. Even with the white collar.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: I don't know how fashionable I it
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: don't get it. Mean, I don't know, this top is very interesting, We're the structure
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: getting Miley Cyrus on the Okay. Split
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: I sort of like that top. It's very She
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: can do no wrong in my eyes. I think it's very cool. Leather, like crop,
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: In the front.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: Jacket, top. We always get a little Yeah. Of dress from
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: Well, she knows what she's doing.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: And Is that Miley Cyrus? Yep.
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: She doesn't look the same. Now is she attached to the gentlemen? No. I think they are. I think their capes are attached.
- 1:08:36Well, let's see. Wait a minute. No. I think they're just No, they're standing just back together. They're just together.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: It's a woman. So I don't know who that is. I like the gold necklace over the jacket.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: It's an awful lot of stuff. She doesn't like, doesn't look the way I remember her looking. It's so interesting.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: She had different eras for
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: sure. But this is very much what I would imagine they would Yes. Be
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: Is it too on
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: No. The I think this is fabulous. That's You know, for the night, for the costume. I mean, for the theme of the evening. Mhmm.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: I I like the like the skirt too that she's wearing. Okay, who's in the queue? Oh, I see Tracy Ellis Ross. Not at all like
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: Her mom. Her mom. Well, I'm sure that
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if they would have some through line. So we'll have to see her come to the carpet. This is just a very pretty
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: outfit. And he's wearing Bermudas Yeah. With a with a tux type of long tail jacket.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: She's boring, I don't know
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: who that is. I don't know. She looks very pretty. But like Well, you know what? You know, it's hard to No, I think she looks quite glorious actually.
- 1:10:02She's a very pretty woman. Oh, oh, look at this outfit. This is cool. So
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: it's like, what is hanging off of there? Red Tassel?
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: I don't know. I I'm really not sure. It's quite interesting with a leather outer coat.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: It is kinda cool. Yeah. There's, shapes and the the silhouette going on with the, it's Io at a very, so her inspiration for this look, she was thinking about her connections to what dandyism meant to her and the dandiest men in her life are her family, she was saying. So it's inspired by her dad and her grandfather.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: And then just like the tailoring, the I think this look was Max Davis at Ferragamo. Okay. Okay. So I I I like it. I I I like the different textures, like the leather and the
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: textile And the touch of red is fine.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: White and the yeah. Whenever I mean, red, white, and black.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: Right? Yep. The whole Yep.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Which is I wonder why they did blue carpet and maybe they knew everyone was wearing red.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: That could it could be. You might be right. Yeah. You might be right.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: But they all look good, three
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: of them together. I'm still not, but what the other one was
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Especially the big when you're doing interviews, maybe
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: it's I think that's too hard. I think it's too much, but she certainly Yeah, as
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: I would say, not my type.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: Right, exactly Kim.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: She has a
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: similar hair comb to Simone Biles. I don't know who did It that
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: little girl
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: in the almost looks like Betty Bue, the show
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: that's I don't think that's what they're going
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: for. No, that's because that was a period of time when they wore their hair like that in the forties.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Probably, yeah.
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: People have that little curl.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Okay, Cynthia Arrivo,
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Which like she looks great.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Absolute favorite.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Oh, that's from Wicked. Wicked. That's a gorgeous,
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: gorgeous, beautiful She can really know.
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: Well, has the most beautiful figure in fashion sense of really anybody.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: And she just looks so confident. I wanna see the full look because I can't
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: Oh, it's back with the train. Big. Oh, and she also is wearing a very short. Is it I don't know if it's just short or if this is also a bodysuit.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Let's go back to see. Wow. She needs a whole moment. Look at that.
- 1:12:36So the jacket's insane. Insane.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: The jacket's gorgeous. It's
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: like the same kind of beaded stuff that we're seeing. No, but this is Graham. Is like,
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: who's did this? The shoulder. Wonder if this is Armani. I wonder who this is. Whoever does she's the beading is so beautiful.
- 1:12:56Got like a short.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: Short in the front. And the
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: short black boots. Black boots and the long cape.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: What do you guys think of Cynthia's look? Everyone who's watching, comment to us and tell us. I think it's so cool, like the big shoulders. Yeah. It's quite beautiful.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: It's hard to see these things. You know, after a while they all seem to blend in. I mean, you you begin, you get jaded and Okay. Now we're getting Miley interview. Aliyah.
- 1:13:38Hers was Aliyah.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: And hence, by a Cartier necklace. So the way I think Miley said she interpreted this theme is she was looking forward to who she was gonna sit with, who she was gonna see. And that's what's really exciting for her is like And celebrating identity and we know that's very Miley and I'm sure she was prepped on that answer. And I don't know, she's, like, I'm proud to be her, and I feel like that is really the heart of the theme. So I think, like, her top almost looks like armor and, like, power, I feel.
- 1:14:19So maybe presenting that power through the top is sort of what she was trying to do with that look. I like the slick back too. I feel like like it Yeah.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: You like that, Kim. Yeah.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: You hate when I wear slick. No. I don't. I know. Like it.
- 1:14:38My mom doesn't like it.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: I actually think it looks very chic, especially if you're wearing a very intricate outfit. Yeah. Because then it's too much between hair and thing. I Something has to be simple. Totally.
- 1:14:51Now let's, who are those people on the staircase? There are a whole group of people there taking photos of.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we need a closer shot. Let's see.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: Let's see, now this, I'm telling you, this is out of
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Bridgerton. I guess so. Don't you remember? I It remember was that time period. And I guess we have seen a lot of like burgundy.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: Well burgundy is very big. The color was very big for the spring which is unusual. It's usually a very big fall color. A lot of burgundy accessories. That hat is right out of of Bridgeton.
- 1:15:30And look at the waists. I mean, is that a normal waist on somebody really?
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: Well, they're probably adding a ton to her hips that makes
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: her waist
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: look even tinier. Okay, now we're back Jeremy Allen White.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: Well, he's not in anything.
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: Assuming there's some nice pearl buttons that make it a little bit interesting. He
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: kept himself traditional. He's gotta keep himself true to himself.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, it looks well, like it's tailored.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: Yeah, sort of looks out of place for the night.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: You think?
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I love it. But it's not like, again, with the brooch on the lapel.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, I think nice,
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: What was he in, Kim?
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: The bear. Oh. Is that what it's called? Yeah. One about the cooking.
- 1:16:18The bear. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Was it about cooking?
- 1:16:21I never watched it.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: I see. Oh, he's got a lot of pins.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: Yeah. It's fun to bring a prop, you know? And like actually play some music. That's cool. Is he actually playing?
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: No. It's just that was just I think, like you're saying, it was an actual prop.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: I don't know. We have the volume down. He might be. Now look at his arms. Nice arms.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: He's working out.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: That's an accessory.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: He's really a beautiful man.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: He's wearing like, okay, now there's a lot going on. I'm trying to describe it for people who are just listening, but.
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: Well, he's in a red and black, well, that was, got kind
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: of We're seeing a lot of suits with a lot of patterns.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Which is really what the man, what look was that they were trying to show, the dandy look. You like this, wouldn't have gone to work in the in the fifties, sixties, and seventies in those suits if you worked on Wall Street or if you went to an advertising company. This is strictly a made up look that they would wear to go out in Harlem.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: The idea, like, of black dandyism is, like Yeah. Being really well dressed and, like, in a world Overdressed.
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: It's really an overdressed. It's an excitement.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: Yeah. It's men dressing up. In in a world where, like, there was a very rigid category of race and class that were confining them. This was the way to
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, express themselves. Yeah, totally. No question. No, look at his platform
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: shoes That on a shoe.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: I know, I see it.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's her shoes again and the cane and the The She looks People like Robin need the cane to get up the stairs probably.
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: Well, certainly would need two canes. Those shoes, I defy these people to walk in those shoes. I don't how they do it. They're all talking about the shoes. It's impossible.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: It's her shoes. Yeah. And, you know, it's a one step at a time up those stairs for sure. I feel like we would, I mean, people know the Met Steps because in the show Gossip Girl, they used to hang out on the Met Steps, but it's also a big part of the city.
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: Grew It's iconic a couple of staircase.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: But you don't really sit on the stairs and
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: hang out. Yes. There are loads of people do when they eat the hot dogs from the from the Absolutely. Stands Absolutely. And now they have the water fountains and people can sit around the water fountains.
- 1:18:57Yep. I think the Coke family donated all the water fountains recently and it's such a beautiful thing because for a while they lay dormant and they didn't work. Now they all work and it's beautiful. You have to really take a tour of New York everybody. You gotta come into the city, go to MoMA, go to the Whitney, which you and I did in the meat packing last You take a little museum trip.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: By the way, the exhibit at the Met opens May 10. Oh, to everybody? To everybody, to the public. So everyone can go and see.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: And there'll be lines. It's always big lines. Remember the one there was a show recently they did a couple of years ago that I think I had to go back two or three times till I got in. Even, you know, it's even early in the morning, it's very hard because people love to come to see this.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Someone said, what do you know about the show Gossip Girl? Did you ever watch it? No. I loved it.
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: You loved it, so you can talk about I've
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: rewatched it so many times. It was pretty, it was a little exaggerated the way high schoolers were living, but Did it take very in New York City. Oh, it did? About the private schools and stuff.
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: Oh, well, you know, they have to exaggerate it to make it fun.
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: Yeah. But honestly, there were kids like that.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: So it was such a good show.
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: I love this red dress. Oh, they turned that on.
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: By the way, if you're watching and you don't already follow us, please throw us a follow, go to our profile. Some people said they haven't seen our videos in a while. That's probably because you're not following. Please go and
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: follow because we're on all the time, everybody. Post every day.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, ask us some questions. We're here on live with you so we can talk about whatever while giving our commentary. Grandma, what would you ideally wear to the Met Gala?
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: Grandma couldn't go because all I have is a white shirt. I could wear a white shirt with a beaded skirt.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: What designer are you having dress you and what are you wearing?
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: I think I would have well one of my favorite designers is probably Chanel and I love Pierre Cardin from Paris, but I don't think I'm gonna go to this at all so we don't have to worry about it.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Someone said, I love your dynamic. It reminds me of me and my grandma. So nice.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: What does grandma think about young people moving into the city?
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: I think it's a great experience. Everybody should do it. They can all do it. You don't have to. There's so many different places to live in the city and in the outer boroughs.
- 1:21:32You can live in Jersey City. You can live in Brooklyn. You can live in Staten Island and take. There's all mass transit and it's a wonderful place for when you really want to experience life. There's so much to do here.
- 1:21:46You might not want to stay here when you have a family or later on you might want to move someplace else. But as a start, I think it's a wonderful experience for young people.
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: Grandma, what celebrities like from your era do you wish
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: you would love to see on this carpet? I think the only well, the only two that I really or maybe three, I think Marilyn Monroe definitely because she always she was more glamorous than all these people put together. She would just walk out and she would be a showstopper.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: By the way, we're looking at Tracy Ellis Ross. She's in Marc Jacobs.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: And she's cool. That's Diana Ross's daughter and she's cool. I mean, look at it. You know, they just have a style, these women in this family. It's it's terrific.
- 1:22:34Yeah. The big hat. Yeah. Big, I don't know what those pants are because she's not heavy. So it's they make them look like that.
- 1:22:41And then she's got a balloon bow in the back. Just cool.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: Marilyn just Monroe, actually the big
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: pink Well, from A Gentleman Prefer Blondes. Remember when they came out of that? Yeah, that's right. So I think it would be Marilyn Monroe. My second would be Elizabeth Taylor who was equally gorgeous and magnificent in whatever she wore and whatever stock, whatever period because we unfortunately Marilyn Monroe we only had till she was in her early 30s and then she died.
- 1:23:10But Elizabeth Taylor, all different stages of her life from when she began in when she was 14 or 15 as a great actress and then stayed till her very end. So she was wonderful. And then I think maybe Audrey Hepburn. Those were the iconic figures of my time.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Now what Tracy's saying about her mom since they had to stop the carpet for Diana Ross to go up, they shut it down for her. She was like, my mom just stops time and does.
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: She does. She does. But that's what we were saying. Totally. She totally does and she deserves it.
- 1:23:47She deserves it. She's one of our great talents. Look at this beautiful necklace, Kim. A lot Yeah. Jewelry, diamonds it's gorgeous.
- 1:23:55In this a lot of necklaces.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: Where do you even get something like that?
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: Well, get it, but where do you wear it? I mean, I'd like to know where you wear this.
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: I guess really just galas.
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: If you're going to this med gala. Right. Again, with a very short skirt in the front or short and then these long trains. Mhmm.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: It's really
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: So it's really staging. It's really staging for the steps to go up on the steps. Oh, yeah. She's wearing the same black very beautiful. Very pretty.
- 1:24:25Very pretty.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: This is cool too. I like that. Like, just a big cape jacket. This, I'm
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: telling you, looks like just like Adam, one of Pride and Prejudice. It looks because they're very much like the costumes that come out of the movies of this period. I think I think a lot of the designers go back and they look at period pieces of the time and then they adapt it to the star who who they're dressing. Mhmm.
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: Okay. Now they're in matching colors. The couples cost not costumes, the couples looks. I feel like a lot of people are doing
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: I tried to do it, right.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: Couples, which is fine.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: See now he's wearing exactly what I thought was gonna be the style of the night because he's wearing like a zoot suit outfit, but he's wearing a modern day, I don't know, the thing from the thing covering his head, which people wore in the seventies and eighties. Yeah, look at her.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: Look at her. It's Alicia Keys, right?
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: Oh, she looks fabulous.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: Can you just see her face? Is that alright? Yeah, Alicia Keys and Swiss Beats.
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Oh, look
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: great. Love the coordinating. We have the puffer, we have the suiting.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: She's not wearing a puffer.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: Yeah, her thing is like puffer. No, that was the other girl. No, like look at her shawl thing that she's carrying. Oh really,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: it's a puffer also? Now this is the puffer.
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, that's more classic. I just like my proclair or something.
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: I like it.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: I know. I feel like you have something like that.
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: No. I don't, but I would like it.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: Okay, so we have Amy Lou Wood from White Lotus who obviously was a fan favorite. Is she wearing Chanel? I don't know what
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: she's wearing. No, I don't is that Chanel? Don't think so.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: But the black and white, I'm trying to see if she's like covering her look, but
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: But she's wearing a tie?
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: Isn't that the guy from White Lotus? Yeah. Schwarzenegger.
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. He's the heartthrob of of every young person now.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: Yeah. It is. Look how handsome
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: him, like, not in shirt.
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: Yeah. And a pinstripe jacket. I wanna see his look. He looks cool actually. Yes.
- 1:26:50He Very looks feminine silhouette too, like with a wide pant. The red belt. So fun.
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: Think he's very highly styled. I mean, I I like the way mean, he's he's captured the moment.
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: Wait. Do you think it's like, he doesn't typically look like that? Like, is it weird?

- 1:29:46Speaker 3: Is that what it is?
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: Yeah. Some of the other guys could carry it
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: off in the
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: wide lapels.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: Like the big it's almost like the Betty Boop twenties eye. Well, Betty Boop.

- 1:47:18Speaker 4: No, I'm sure they're not watching the stream. They'll see four pictures But there's like no in the paper tomorrow.
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: Like comment, I don't know. I feel like there's no fun commentators and stuff. It's like, what are you gonna watch it for if you can just see the pictures on your phone whenever you feel like it? We see Donatella here. Donatella Versace?
- 1:47:35Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: Well, she's no longer the creative director of her own company of that company anymore. They threw her out which is was a
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: terrible What is the lore? What's the story?
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: Well I guess it's a public it was owned by a public company and they didn't they want to go in a different direction. You know, because, well, we're getting another. It's fair. See, these to me are very it's interesting. I find some of these outfits very Latin inspired rather than than Black inspired.
- 1:48:14So maybe I'm missing some of it.
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: They said, agree with Grandma Gail, it could go faster, but it's so fun watching with you both.
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: Aw, thank you guys. Thanks. Thank you.
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: It has been fun.
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: And everybody has to go look in their closets, their grandma's, in their mom's closet for the thing the lapel Inspiration pins. Pins. Nobody's wearing a long train. So so we don't that inspiration is getting lost the next hour and a half after this show is off. So but I think definitely everybody's gonna come wear a little pin either on a sweater or on a dress or embellishments.
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: Yeah. Totally. Were we were Special.
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: Doing something for a sneaker company, and they had embellishments all over it.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: In a way, you guys will see what that is once it But comes
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: it's very interesting. Everybody is putting a little bit of something on their different attire.
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: True. It's a fun way to accessorize.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: Exactly. And then you can take it off and wear it a different way.
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: I'm like
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: A lot of red shoes.
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: Not into these looks, but I want his giant K necklace for myself.
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: Shaw con, but and again, he has a cane.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: Because I'm telling you, the cane was very Cab Calloway. Yeah. For people who wanna go back and look at dancing, one of the great dancers of tap dancers of the time was Cab Calloway. And he would dance with his group and he would tap the cane and catch the cane. So that was part of his entertainment.
- 1:50:00And that look was carried on by many people in Harlem and other black areas that wanted to emulate Cab Calloway.
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: Right. But if you wore a cane now, like, people just think you had a bad
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: you were a big dandy, which is what they want. I think they would
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: think you had a bad back.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Well, maybe. Now what is this? This fellow is wearing a helmet? Yeah.
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: Like, he looks like a Formula One driver.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: That's what he looks like. But
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: why? Who is this?
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: I don't know. Well, how do we know he's got a mask on? But it looks like, or an Olympic player or something. Yeah. Formula One, what does it say?
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: I don't know. It has like
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: Oh, maybe it is. Maybe he is a Why
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: would you just wear that? It's like wearing your uniform to the carpet. That's weird.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: I have a feeling he's not one of the race drivers. I think he's just wearing it because
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: he What does loves that mean then? Do you guys know what's going on? What
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: is going on? Maybe he's going into outer space. Oh, wait a He's gonna take the jacket off, Kim. One, two, three. Here we go.
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: Oh, something's gonna happen. Here's a reveal moment that they need multiple people for. And then they're switching.
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: They can't do it. They're gonna pull it off. Yay. I took it.
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: Yay. Cool.
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: Alright. He stole the show. Take your hat helmet off. Tell us who you are. What young handsome guy are you?
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: Wait. I I think this is so pretty, the suit.
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, he's really epitomizes the style that of the time.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: You think?
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: He's the dandy style. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. But I don't get the hell to the red his bell bottom pants, which were very much the seventies.
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: What's the situation with the
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: I think that was the helmet, though. I think that was just a
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: No. I feel like we don't, like, we don't know what's going on.
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know. Is there a purpose to that?
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: Is it Lil Nas X? Like, does anyone know who it is? No. It's not. It's not.
- 1:52:04Right? Someone said I think Kim is going to figure out how to get to the Met Gala next year. Let's manifest that. Someone said, oh, he's one of the main actors in the upcoming f one movie.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: Oh, so that's your answer.
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: But who is it? I don't know. I'm just reading your comments of who you think it is. I don't know who it is, but I should probably.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: Well, you can't know all these actors, Kim. I could. This is father, son, and mother or father, son, and daughter. Is that Stevie Wonder? Yeah.
- 1:52:40Ah. How much do I love him? He looks great. Totally. I mean, he really looks good.
- 1:52:48And they all kinda coordinate. I don't think those are his children. I think it's just his helpers.
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: Well, they look
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: good too. Because he's, you know, he's blind.
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: Yes. I do know that.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: Oh, I just wanted to tell you that. Now I wanna go because I wonder if he if see, if this talent would play the piano and sing one a night, that would be. See, this is a zoot suit.
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: This is a dancer.
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: This is a dapper Dan. Exactly. This is a dapper Dan. That he's gonna tap.
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: And that's what dapper Dan comes from?
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: What?
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: Now yeah. That's where the, saying dapper Dan
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: comes from. But I don't think it came from this from this movement. I think Dapper Dan just came No. From
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: Oh, Probably did. Like a dandy. This oh, wait. This is Dapper Dan. Dapper Dan's a person.
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: But the white people used to be called Dapper I know,
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: this is Dapper Dan.
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: But they called him Dapper Dan? Okay. He's in the white tail jacket with now that looks like Vuitton also, Kim, but I can't see that the writing on that jacket.
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: I'll get some more details for you guys. It's like kind of right to No.
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: That's I don't see is that MC? I don't I can't read it, but it's on his hat as well. And he's wearing spats. That used to be the white shoes with the black thing with the little high thing. Was
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: Oh, cool.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: Cool. Now he is cool. He is cool. You walked down the street with him, somebody would arrest you and say, where the heck are you going?
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: What? What do you even mean?
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: Can you imagine walking the aisle seriously any place with an outfit like that?
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: Well, you know, he's 80. He is? Yeah.
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: He looks fabulous. What's he eating?
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: But like he's a fashion designer.
- 1:54:35Speaker 4: Well, he he for 80 years old, he looks fabulous. I never saw his clothes. He's
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: the original designer.
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: For who?
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: Was it Louis Vuitton or no?
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: No.
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: I don't know. The first designer to cut up designer labels and make it urban.
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: Oh, okay. Alright. Is what
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: people in the comments are saying.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: Okay. Okay.
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: I don't know. We're watching it the same as you guys are watching it at home. Like, we're just one big family watching. So, like, let's figure it out together because I have no idea.
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: Well, we have no idea.
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: But I can tell you what we think about the outfits for sure. I think he's wearing Dolce. I don't know.
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: No. He's probably wearing his own design. Don't you think? I have no idea. This is a red something.
- 1:55:27Too much chest. See that? His chest sticking out? Oh, yeah. You're right.
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: Well Unless it's

- 1:56:49Speaker 4: Let's see. Are you sure that, that what's her name isn't there already?
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: Kardashian.

- 1:56:57Speaker 4: save her to the last?
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: They always just get there last. Then they like rush You
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: see, you pull the cards.
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: We haven't seen any. We haven't seen Kendall. We haven't seen Kim. We haven't seen Kylie. We might have to give our commentary Afterwards.

- 1:57:45Speaker 4: That dress is getting better and
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: better now that I'm watching Yeah, know, she does look nice.
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: She looks very pretty in the top, I like it.
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I almost feel like that'd be on like Revolve though.
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: They're all showing the jewelry off, which you know, all of the, I don't know how these jewelry designers lend it to them, you know, for them to wear on the thing. The security must be unbelievable at the museum because it's millions and millions of dollars. This is a perfect heist for a great jewel
- 1:58:13Speaker 3: of high school ideas.
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: Well, nobody who is watching us is going to go rob these people.
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: He was slow showing guests too long with each. I guess it's true, like, it's to wear a dramatic train on those stairs. Like, there's no better staircase to do that.
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: Correct. But after a while, it gets it's not fast enough.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: They said, I can't wait to see what you think of Demi Moore and Simone Biles. We already gave our thoughts on them. Who is this now, Kim? So definitely rewatch. We'll post our whole thing later.
- 1:58:51Right. And all of our top picks, but we loved Simone and Demi.
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: Yeah. We like both of them.
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: Yeah. The structural thing on Demi was very interesting and Simone was so cute. They both really stuck out. Have Nicole Kidman.
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: Simone had a great had a great train.
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: Nicole Kidman walking out too. So we'll get hers in a moment once they show her. I saw her
- 1:59:13Speaker 4: in I like this guy's jacket. I would wear that.
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: Yeah. You honestly would.
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: I think I have that. I really like it a lot. It's very chic.
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: It's so interesting who gets invited and who doesn't.
- 1:59:26Speaker 4: Well, not that they get invited. It's they do. Stars get invited, but you could pay if you buy a ticket, you could go.
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't think that those are the people on the carpet.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: No, no, no. These I think people you have to be invited, right. Nicole, she looks so good. And she's painfully thin. Yes.
- 1:59:44She's almost, that's almost, she's too old to wear this dress. How do Oh like
- 1:59:48Speaker 3: wow.
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't like that back on her. See, that's that I'm surprised good. From the front, she looks great. From the back, she doesn't. And I'm surprised her stylist doesn't drape some kind of something.
- 1:59:59Speaker 3: Why do you have to cover up?
- 2:00:01Speaker 4: Because it's not a flattering look on her anymore.
- 2:00:07Speaker 3: I think I just see like her bones.
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: Okay. Nope. Okay. Very disappointed in that.
- 2:00:13Speaker 3: I like the drop waist. I like
- 2:00:15Speaker 4: the dress.
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: It's a nice dress.
- 2:00:16Speaker 4: It's a beautiful dress and she's a beautiful She's a
- 2:00:18Speaker 3: 67.
- 2:00:19Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:00:21Speaker 3: I like the glam too.
- 2:00:23Speaker 4: She cut her hair real short. Mhmm. Very pretty. Very chic.
- 2:00:28Speaker 3: And that's probably an easy dress to wear all store. Back
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: I'm I'm yet. Think Diana Ross was my favorite just because I like the white cape that you told me they wrote the children's names on and the grandchildren. Totally. That was my favorite.
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: Some Met Gala history while we're watching. It was established in 1948 as a private dinner by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert. Yeah. In 1972, Vogue director Diana Vreeland took over the Met Gala and turned it into a glamorous event. And then in '95, Anna Wintour became the chairwoman.
- 2:01:19Speaker 4: Very strong women, all of them.
- 2:01:21Speaker 3: Mhmm. So like, I think a lot of the tickets and tables are paid for by the fashion brands. So last year the gala raised $26,000,000 during the night. That's amazing. This year a ticket is 75,000
- 2:01:39Speaker 4: I see.
- 2:01:39Speaker 3: I think
- 2:01:40Speaker 4: of that. I knew even last, because last year
- 2:01:42Speaker 3: I think
- 2:01:42Speaker 4: it was $50,000
- 2:01:43Speaker 3: like a table for 10 can go up to $350,000 Yeah. At the beginning it was $50 and around a thousand in the seventies. Okay. Crazy. Well, but that
- 2:01:53Speaker 4: was a lot. Right. In the seventies, a thousand dollars a ticket was it was astronomical. So, you know, anything coffee used to be 5¢. So, you know, you have to inflation.
- 2:02:05Speaker 3: Someone said, as New Yorkers, what fashion or style could either of you translate in your own wardrobe from the inspired by the Met?
- 2:02:13Speaker 4: We're talking about the brooches. I think the brooches, basically. I because I think the style really, you wouldn't wear any of these things on
- 2:02:20Speaker 3: I mean, I think Around Manhattan. Good tailoring. Like, kind of both do that all the, like we're both a blazer, blazer and jeans, a blazer and
- 2:02:30Speaker 4: a pair of black pants and white man tailored shirt that Demi Moore was wearing. And then any of those little, any of those little pins and accessories and brooches on the lapels would be terrific.
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: I mean, I've been loving, oh, have Kiki Palmer in all white also. I've been loving the all white like, and Zendaya looked so good in the all white suit.
- 2:02:49Speaker 4: I And a lot kind of beading. A lot of beading in a lot of these outfits.
- 2:02:53Speaker 3: I kind of I have a white structured blazer with big shoulder pads. Like, that counts. Yeah. Absolutely. Then you
- 2:03:00Speaker 4: put two little things on it from the flea market. It's gonna be perfect. Very vintage inspired. And then flared pants. A lot of, you know, 70 bell bottoms.
- 2:03:11That was definitely look how dapper he looks. Nowhere he looks like he's at the wrong party.
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: Who is this? Someone said, Grandma Miguel saw you on the Upper East Side last night, but was too shy to say hi.
- 2:03:23Speaker 4: Where was I? Not last night. Plus, last
- 2:03:27Speaker 3: Last week.
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: Oh, last week. Well, you never have to be shy. Everybody comes up and says hi to me. I love to hear from people who watch us. It's my pleasure.
- 2:03:37Speaker 3: And Anne Hathaway wore a white button down. That's an easy thing to have in your
- 2:03:41Speaker 4: Absolute. Everybody should have a white
- 2:03:43Speaker 3: button This guy
- 2:03:44Speaker 4: is still on the runway.
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: I wanna go see the exhibition when it opens to the public.
- 2:03:49Speaker 4: Okay. Well, they're lined so you can wait. It's there forever now.
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: I think it'll, like, it'll have the zoot suits. It'll have Yep. In designs by Dapper Dan, who we're seeing, Congolese fashion, three hundred years of black fashion history. I'm sure it's really interesting. Someone's saying the new Joan and Melissa.
- 2:04:18I think we're I mean, Joan Rivers is the ultimate icon. So that's a compliment. This jacket is giving grandma core. It's the the floral grandma's couch is what I see.
- 2:04:37Speaker 4: Oh no, wait a minute. Oh my gosh, here we go. Whose outfit is this?
- 2:04:42Speaker 3: I wanna see her face before I
- 2:04:44Speaker 4: I'm telling you, breasts hanging out is very big on this staircase Are they out?
- 2:04:52Speaker 3: Like, I don't know. They're just They're out.
- 2:04:55Speaker 4: They're not hanging, they're out.
- 2:04:58Speaker 3: Is that that's not Lizzo, is it? I have I
- 2:05:02Speaker 4: have no idea who that is. Maybe it is, but is she pretending to sing or is she smoking No, a not.
- 2:05:07Speaker 3: Oh. I think that's Lizzo.
- 2:05:09Speaker 4: Alright. Somebody help us. She looks good. She looks really good. Black and white again, Kim.
- 2:05:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:05:14Speaker 4: So on trend, if you really must know what's going on, small little pins on the lapel, black and white definitely. A lot of hats. I don't know where you go in these hats.
- 2:05:27Speaker 3: Someone said they just discovered us from the live and wanted to know what made us wanna do content together. Kim will tell
- 2:05:35Speaker 4: you one day. You have to look back on all our different podcasts and you'll get a whole story.
- 2:05:39Speaker 3: But basically, we've always been really close. And, during COVID, I moved in with my grandparents in Florida and left New York for a little bit and was going on lots of dates. And my grandma's very outspoken, which is why it's Excuse My Grandma. And we decided to start a podcast together to talk about all the generational differences and all of our thoughts and opinions and then all our social media channels. And it's really grown from there.
- 2:06:03Correct.
- 2:06:05Speaker 4: Now we comment on every walk of life. It doesn't matter. Yeah. We have an opinion.
- 2:06:10Speaker 3: Yeah. I wonder if anyone declines an invitation.
- 2:06:17Speaker 4: I don't think anybody declines unless they're not well. So, because this is basically geared for people who like fashion. You're not gonna go if you're if you're an electrical engineer trying to discover something, a new app. It wouldn't appeal to them. I mean, to be very truthful, it doesn't appeal to most people.
- 2:06:38You have to be into high fashion.
- 2:06:40Speaker 3: Well, it's hard just also right now when there's so much going on in the world and then we're watching and we're talking about
- 2:06:47Speaker 4: And it's frivolous. Exactly.
- 2:06:49Speaker 3: But I I do really the topic and the theme, and I like think you need a little bit of, like, the entertainment and the glamour.
- 2:06:56Speaker 4: Like, I this we get that all the time on when everybody's on, Instagram. We're all looking at everybody's beautiful outfits. But I do think this is this is a strictly fashion oriented audience who really loves this and and supports the museum for, you know, showing the costumes throughout the ages. And, you know, it's it's not meant to be serious. It really isn't.
- 2:07:20So I think it's a good thing that happens. I think the fashion industry gets behind it. It's good for that. And it's a night that's fun. Can't take it too seriously unless you're on the carpet.
- 2:07:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like escapism people
- 2:07:35Speaker 4: Yeah, are exactly.
- 2:07:41Speaker 3: Someone said, Has Grandma been in Palm Beach long enough to remember Green's Drugstore? It's still Absolutely,
- 2:07:46Speaker 4: this is the last year though. It's closing? Yeah, so if you didn't get your pancakes and milkshakes, I had the most delicious chocolate milkshake.
- 2:07:53Speaker 3: That's so sad.
- 2:07:53Speaker 4: Two weeks ago.
- 2:07:55Speaker 3: Wow.
