- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up.
- 0:00Speaker 2: This is Robert from Escape to Fate and we are
- 0:03Speaker 2: coming to Australia.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Borr date, my friend. Thanks for joining this.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Yeah, we're touring the whole freaking world this year, but
- 0:11Speaker 2: we're starting Australia in the beginning of June, June fifth
- 0:15Speaker 2: through the thirteenth, I believe you said, and then we're
- 0:18Speaker 2: heading off to Turkey to play with Three Days Grace,
- 0:21Speaker 2: playing a few shows in Germany and around Europe, and
- 0:25Speaker 2: then heading with Three Days Grace again to finish it up,
- 0:28Speaker 2: and then some festivals in the US during the tour,
- 0:31Speaker 2: but Australia first, the land down Under, our favorite place
- 0:34Speaker 2: to play in the world.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Fantastic, my friends. Thanks for joining us today.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Oh, thank you for having me. I appreciate you helping
- 0:42Speaker 2: us spread the word of the new music that's somewhat
- 0:45Speaker 2: some release and a lot more to come, and we're
- 0:47Speaker 2: very excited about it.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Nice.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'll get into that a little later on, but firstly,
- 0:52Speaker 3: I hate to talk about the toy you've got coming up,
- 0:54Speaker 3: which starts in Sydney on Jane the fifth. It's Newcastle, Brisbane,
- 0:57Speaker 3: Birth Adelaide, Geelong and finishes Melbourne on Jeana. That ain't like,
- 1:01Speaker 3: it's not that far away, man, you packed?
- 1:03Speaker 1: You ready to go?
- 1:05Speaker 2: I just literally had this argument with my mother. She's
- 1:09Speaker 2: taking a vacation with my dad. They're going to Hawaii.
- 1:13Speaker 2: They leave on Sunday. I know you're a day ahead.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's Wednesday. I called. I'm like, hey, Mom, what do
- 1:19Speaker 2: you doing? She said, I'm packing? Mike, what are you packing?
- 1:21Speaker 2: She's like, my stuff for the trip. I'm like, don't
- 1:24Speaker 2: you leave like on Sunday. She's like, yeah, we leave something.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm like, well, that's five days from now. How are
- 1:28Speaker 2: you packing right now? Uh? No, I'm not packed. I
- 1:32Speaker 2: just I haven't even unpacked yet. I'm a traveler, Okay,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I just it just constantly. My clothes never get folded.
- 1:40Speaker 2: They just get thrown on top of the dresser and
- 1:42Speaker 2: then just grab them and throw them back into the
- 1:44Speaker 2: freaking suitcase and I go. So I just grab stuff
- 1:48Speaker 2: and I leave. I start packing twenty minutes after the
- 1:51Speaker 2: flight is scheduled to leave.
- 1:53Speaker 3: That's not man. I had to spend three years since
- 1:57Speaker 3: hereadie last right? Sorry, what's chined with this guy?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Since said, I can't believe it's been that long. That's insane.
- 2:04Speaker 2: A lot a lot, you know, and mainly it's just
- 2:08Speaker 2: the dynamic has changed. The the vision, the devotion, the
- 2:15Speaker 2: hard work, the dedication has fully made with always used
- 2:18Speaker 2: to like to say, we're very excited about the new album.
- 2:22Speaker 2: We spent the majority of the last two years writing, recording,
- 2:27Speaker 2: relaxing a little bit, you know, like like we've we
- 2:30Speaker 2: had some different things personally where there's been some stuff
- 2:33Speaker 2: where you know, personally I had to deal with a
- 2:35Speaker 2: couple of things with my family and some loss and
- 2:37Speaker 2: things like that, but spent time with my daughters and
- 2:40Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff, all the while working on
- 2:43Speaker 2: new music, which we're so incredibly excited for. So that's
- 2:47Speaker 2: really what's changed. And so when you do that, when
- 2:51Speaker 2: you have the dynamics strong, when the art you're passionate
- 2:54Speaker 2: about it, you say, give me every interview, get send
- 2:58Speaker 2: me everywhere in the world to show, Okase this music.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I want everyone to know about it. That wasn't the
- 3:03Speaker 2: case before. Like a job, all right, I get, we
- 3:06Speaker 2: gotta go play a show, and then you have fun
- 3:08Speaker 2: playing the shows, but you're not on a mission. We're
- 3:11Speaker 2: on a fucking mission right now.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yes, And he has got a reputation for being one
- 3:16Speaker 3: of the greatest live bands of your era. So what
- 3:19Speaker 3: is it about an escape that's made live show that
- 3:21Speaker 3: makes it so special?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Let's see. I take when when ranking things and determining
- 3:29Speaker 2: best of greatest stuff, I take everything way too literal
- 3:33Speaker 2: and serious. So you're wrong because there's so many more
- 3:36Speaker 2: bands that are greater than us, where I probably don't
- 3:38Speaker 2: even make the top one thousand. But I'm a harsh critic.
- 3:42Speaker 2: So but but I'll take the compliment and say, the
- 3:46Speaker 2: thing we always bring is energy, and none of us
- 3:50Speaker 2: are particularly the best at what we do. Actually, Maddie,
- 3:53Speaker 2: our guitar player is I mean, he's a real musician.
- 3:57Speaker 2: He's insane. He's one of the best musicians I've ever
- 4:00Speaker 2: met in real life. And I can't believe that, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I'm in a band with him. That's what's crazy, you know.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But there's just this chemistry that we have. There's something
- 4:10Speaker 2: when you put us on a stage together, we just
- 4:12Speaker 2: sort of lock in and we have this energy. Like
- 4:14Speaker 2: I said, none of us, Well, I guess, Maddie, we're
- 4:18Speaker 2: I'm not the best drummer. Craig's not the best singer.
- 4:20Speaker 2: He has a unique voice, and you know, there's just
- 4:23Speaker 2: a dynamic that happens, and it's always it's just always exciting.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I really can't put my finger on it. There's something
- 4:30Speaker 2: about it that doesn't feel contrived. There's something about it
- 4:33Speaker 2: that's just authentic. We don't wear costumes on stage, but
- 4:37Speaker 2: we have a certain look and we we're not necessarily
- 4:40Speaker 2: a heavy metal band. We're not a full blown emo
- 4:42Speaker 2: pop band like we're. There's something there that's, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: a little unique, and it comes from the era that
- 4:47Speaker 2: we came in and it's been you know, transformed over
- 4:50Speaker 2: the years. We're a little bit older, so we're not
- 4:52Speaker 2: as crazy. Maybe Craig isn't gonna breaks like jumping off
- 4:55Speaker 2: something anymore or break a kid's nose again allegedly. But
- 5:00Speaker 2: and I may not have the hair I used to have,
- 5:04Speaker 2: But you know now that the musician nature has elevated
- 5:09Speaker 2: a little. But even though the body's slowing down just
- 5:12Speaker 2: a little bit, you know, it offsets. So you know,
- 5:15Speaker 2: now we're a full package. We still got what to take.
- 5:17Speaker 2: We still have the energy and like I said, we're
- 5:19Speaker 2: on a mission, so we have the excitement to still
- 5:21Speaker 2: carry that. I may be putting a bag of ice
- 5:24Speaker 2: on my back after the show. But I'm gonna put
- 5:27Speaker 2: all sacrifice my body on stage, you know what I mean?
- 5:30Speaker 2: And I have there's plenty of videos where there's just
- 5:32Speaker 2: bloods just splattered all over my drums. So I actually
- 5:36Speaker 2: I believe it. Not hyperbole, Yes, not hyperbole. This is
- 5:41Speaker 2: this is real. I really do.
- 5:45Speaker 3: On the flip side of that bright But what sorts
- 5:47Speaker 3: of things kind of crab do to make you come
- 5:49Speaker 3: off stage going fuck?
- 5:51Speaker 1: That was insane.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, look, it's it's it's changed over the years,
- 5:57Speaker 2: it's evolved. So we just got off a tour with
- 5:58Speaker 2: Lacuna Coil.
- 6:01Speaker 3: This is.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I guess in the big scope of things. We're both
- 6:06Speaker 2: hard rock bands, but they come from a different era
- 6:09Speaker 2: of this sort of new metal, operatic metal from you know,
- 6:14Speaker 2: the earlier two thousands, And I felt so weird every day, man,
- 6:17Speaker 2: like I would I was. I would talk to Christina,
- 6:21Speaker 2: Christina Scava, the singer, and I used to have pictures
- 6:25Speaker 2: of her on my wall, and I would get the
- 6:27Speaker 2: Revolver magazine and you know what I mean, and so
- 6:29Speaker 2: I would talk to from like this is crazy. We
- 6:30Speaker 2: became friends, so it was really cool, but it is different.
- 6:35Speaker 2: We come a little more from this sort of warped
- 6:38Speaker 2: tour emo world with the metal stuff, and they're way
- 6:43Speaker 2: over here. So it was a challenge for us. We
- 6:45Speaker 2: didn't know if we should even do that tour. We
- 6:48Speaker 2: didn't know if we'd have enough conversion and make new fans.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We felt maybe we're just a little too different. But
- 6:54Speaker 2: every day we go on stage every day and you
- 6:59Speaker 2: could tell a lot of people didn't know who we were.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But for some reason, by the end of the show,
- 7:05Speaker 2: they're all jumping and going crazy and there's washpits. I'm like,
- 7:09Speaker 2: this is insane. There was like one or two kind
- 7:12Speaker 2: of duds, but other than that, so there's a feeling
- 7:16Speaker 2: I get even though people may not be singing every song,
- 7:19Speaker 2: maybe there isn't a washpit every every second. What it
- 7:23Speaker 2: doesn't matter, because I could feel when someone's just they're
- 7:26Speaker 2: enjoying it, regardless of the movement. And so that to
- 7:31Speaker 2: me is as exciting as when you're playing your headliner
- 7:35Speaker 2: to all your fans that know every song and sing
- 7:37Speaker 2: every word and know when certain parts of our show
- 7:41Speaker 2: that hey, we're gonna do the Wall of Death now,
- 7:43Speaker 2: they just already know what's happening before we even say
- 7:45Speaker 2: anything like those things are wonderful and amazing, just as
- 7:50Speaker 2: much as making a new fan. That is just kind
- 7:52Speaker 2: of standing there taking it all in. So for me,
- 7:56Speaker 2: just the blessing to be able to play a show
- 7:59Speaker 2: and have someone give it a chance. It doesn't matter.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I walk off stage every night going that was awesome,
- 8:05Speaker 2: you know, regardless of the result, unless something horribly goes
- 8:09Speaker 2: wrong like technical stuff, and it's just, oh my gosh,
- 8:12Speaker 2: come on, man, which happens, which only happens on the
- 8:15Speaker 2: biggest stages, right when you're on the big festivals with
- 8:18Speaker 2: tens of thousands of people.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yep, that's the way it happens. Man.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So I come back to job it bright like you
- 8:24Speaker 3: started describe the fight back in two thousand and four
- 8:26Speaker 3: and about it. So what was it that means your
- 8:28Speaker 3: club in luck they gave birth to the band, and
- 8:30Speaker 3: where did you fit in?
- 8:31Speaker 2: Initially back then it was exciting. I still live in
- 8:35Speaker 2: Las Vegas right now, which is a constant argument with
- 8:38Speaker 2: the band on where we're going to rehearse because most
- 8:41Speaker 2: of them live in Arizona. So back then it was exciting.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It actually really was exciting because there was this they
- 8:51Speaker 2: called it the Slaughter Curse back then because the band Slaughter,
- 8:55Speaker 2: which was one of the last you know, hair metal
- 8:58Speaker 2: bands of the sort of late eighty and nineties kind
- 9:01Speaker 2: of to sort of come around and make it big,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and they were from Las Vegas. Up until then, there
- 9:07Speaker 2: just really wasn't much of a scene. And for some
- 9:09Speaker 2: reason at our era, I don't know if it's because
- 9:12Speaker 2: the town was booming. There was you know, tens of
- 9:15Speaker 2: thousands of people moving to the city every single day
- 9:18Speaker 2: or every year or month or whatever. It was like
- 9:20Speaker 2: there was a lot like it like doubled in size
- 9:22Speaker 2: in like a couple of years. It was insane. That's
- 9:24Speaker 2: why I moved here. My parents moved here for economic opportunity,
- 9:28Speaker 2: and at that time maybe maybe that's why there were
- 9:31Speaker 2: so many people and this culture happening of these younger
- 9:34Speaker 2: kids like that are now starting to grow up there.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But man, it was exciting. You had Panic at the
- 9:40Speaker 2: disco coming out at that time. You had Us, You
- 9:42Speaker 2: had other bands that were talking to labels and starting
- 9:45Speaker 2: to tour. You had the great you know, the post
- 9:49Speaker 2: hardcore hardcore metal core bands of like Southern California that
- 9:54Speaker 2: were touring here. Because it was different times back then
- 9:56Speaker 2: there was social media kind of was starting. But when
- 9:59Speaker 2: you had Sevenfold, they weren't touring the country and the world,
- 10:03Speaker 2: and it could have fans in New York, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 2: because they'd hurt them on my Space at the time. No,
- 10:08Speaker 2: it was regional, so they would tour kind of around
- 10:11Speaker 2: southern California and Las Vegas, so we got to see
- 10:15Speaker 2: bands like them and Thrice and Bleeding Through and all
- 10:18Speaker 2: these bands. So there was this energy happening, and you
- 10:21Speaker 2: had the small clubs, and it's so weird looking at
- 10:25Speaker 2: it historically now because so many kids are into this
- 10:27Speaker 2: sort of emo revival thing and this nineties runch thing,
- 10:31Speaker 2: but for us, that was just what was normal. We
- 10:34Speaker 2: put on eyeliner, we wore we wore tight pants, and
- 10:38Speaker 2: like it was. It was crazy, man, That's just how
- 10:40Speaker 2: it was. And the craziest most wacky hair. I actually
- 10:43Speaker 2: stood out because I looked more like Slash than you know,
- 10:46Speaker 2: the peacock the side swoop hair. So it was it
- 10:50Speaker 2: was fun times, man. There was a lot happening, and
- 10:52Speaker 2: you knew some band was going to break and turned
- 10:56Speaker 2: out several did, and a couple of years later, even
- 10:58Speaker 2: imagine Dragons sort of stemmed from here sort of Utah
- 11:01Speaker 2: as well, which is uh, you know, ways away from here.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But yeah, it was. It was very exciting at the time,
- 11:07Speaker 2: very very exciting.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Do you remember the first time you heard one of
- 11:11Speaker 1: these songs played on rightio? What song was it?
- 11:16Speaker 3: Uh?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, well I can't answer that in a couple different
- 11:20Speaker 2: ways because initially we to go along with, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 2: the excitement of the time. There was a local DJ
- 11:30Speaker 2: on the rock station here man. She was awesome, she
- 11:34Speaker 2: was detrimental. She had this show on Sundays. It was
- 11:37Speaker 2: like later at night. Obviously, anything anything that's cool always
- 11:40Speaker 2: for some reason, it's relegated to the late hours, like
- 11:43Speaker 2: headbangers Ball back in the MTV days. But she would
- 11:48Speaker 2: play local bands, so that was that, that was her
- 11:52Speaker 2: hour or whatever. They would showcase local music and they
- 11:55Speaker 2: would have like you know, fan call ins and requests,
- 11:59Speaker 2: and we got the most requested song at one point
- 12:03Speaker 2: for a demo of one of our original songs, and
- 12:06Speaker 2: so we heard it play it on the radio. It
- 12:08Speaker 2: was really cool. I'm like, oh my gosh, this is
- 12:10Speaker 2: this is insane. So that was before we were signed
- 12:14Speaker 2: to a label or a professional band technically yet, so
- 12:19Speaker 2: I kind of got a glimpse of that. And then
- 12:21Speaker 2: the second time was like my Chemical Romance was hosting
- 12:26Speaker 2: this this event or they were playing a show here.
- 12:30Speaker 2: It was towards the end of the Three Cheers era,
- 12:33Speaker 2: so this was before Black Parade, and they they had
- 12:37Speaker 2: a contest they were going to pick a local band
- 12:39Speaker 2: to open for them, and it was like, so Mitchell
- 12:42Speaker 2: Demos and they picked us and I was like, what
- 12:45Speaker 2: it was like crazy so to hear us mentioned on
- 12:48Speaker 2: the radio and all those things. And then and then
- 12:51Speaker 2: the other time was when we released a song called
- 12:55Speaker 2: One for the Money that started getting played a lot,
- 12:59Speaker 2: and my dad would call me like every hour and
- 13:04Speaker 2: the radio station in Texas and he'd be like, you're
- 13:07Speaker 2: on the radio again. It's like it's kind of getting
- 13:09Speaker 2: annoying now, like really, that's so awesome, which, by the way,
- 13:13Speaker 2: which is really cool because that helped lead to get
- 13:17Speaker 2: the actual platinum freaking single. So for a band like us,
- 13:22Speaker 2: that's you know, never really taken off as like a
- 13:25Speaker 2: sort of mainstream mac. I should probably hang that up.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You know, I don't have anything of my band. I
- 13:33Speaker 2: don't I don't like I have the inspirational stuff for
- 13:37Speaker 2: me I don't I don't like putting pictures up or
- 13:39Speaker 2: any sort of accolades or we got one million streams
- 13:42Speaker 2: like that's not I don't know. It just I like
- 13:44Speaker 2: to have the things that inspired me as a kid,
- 13:47Speaker 2: you know. So yeah, but anyways, that song did really
- 13:51Speaker 2: well for us and it was a trip to hear it.
- 13:53Speaker 2: So sorry for all the long winded answers I got
- 13:57Speaker 2: for that.
- 13:57Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Come to your new music made like you've released your
- 14:01Speaker 3: latest single, Daja Boom back in match, So tell us
- 14:04Speaker 3: a bit.
- 14:04Speaker 1: About that song.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that the there's so in two parts
- 14:10Speaker 2: like lyrically that that's something that Craig he's been sort
- 14:14Speaker 2: of on this like he's just examining his life. So
- 14:18Speaker 2: he's realizing like all these things and all these pasts,
- 14:21Speaker 2: and he's constantly in fear. He'll he'll be the first
- 14:25Speaker 2: one to tell you that he's he's now six years sober,
- 14:28Speaker 2: and he's he's constantly in this sort of battle every
- 14:32Speaker 2: single day to make sure that he stays who he
- 14:34Speaker 2: is now and doesn't go back to how he was
- 14:37Speaker 2: right and so that song is just constant like fighting
- 14:41Speaker 2: these sort of you know, just repeating and all those
- 14:45Speaker 2: things and like like trying to escape that and everything.
- 14:48Speaker 2: So I mean he probably answered that portion of it better.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But you know, from the musical landscape, I feel like
- 14:57Speaker 2: that song is representative of kind of the direction where
- 15:01Speaker 2: we've gone, where we have a digital element to it
- 15:04Speaker 2: versus some of the early stuff, but there's a darkness
- 15:08Speaker 2: to it that we've never been able to capture, and
- 15:11Speaker 2: it really it really hits that feeling of this eerie
- 15:17Speaker 2: kind of almost like our last album was called Out
- 15:19Speaker 2: of the Shadows, and it feels like this shadow that's
- 15:22Speaker 2: constantly following you to you know, turn you back into
- 15:26Speaker 2: the negative of your life. And that song sort of
- 15:29Speaker 2: captures that feeling while still having sick rifts and breakdowns
- 15:34Speaker 2: and all those things. And I don't know why. The
- 15:36Speaker 2: chorus it just worked is so catchy. I don't even
- 15:39Speaker 2: know what to say to it. Honestly, it just sounds cool.
- 15:42Speaker 2: It's dark, and that's what's really been missing from from
- 15:46Speaker 2: what we've been trying to do, And I don't know
- 15:48Speaker 2: what it is that we've never been able to capture it.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Everything ends up sounding a little happier than it should.
- 15:53Speaker 2: It's like, no, that's not our vibe when we're happy.
- 15:55Speaker 2: We don't make music where we're angry or sad that
- 16:00Speaker 2: are scared that or you know, sad whatever. Like that's
- 16:03Speaker 2: when you retreat to music. For us, that's why I'm
- 16:07Speaker 2: drawn to mainly rock music, because that's lends itself to that.
- 16:11Speaker 2: You know, obviously some of the fund metal stuff too,
- 16:16Speaker 2: it's cool, but like, that's what inspires me to write.
- 16:19Speaker 2: It's when inspires Craig rights and we finally captured the
- 16:23Speaker 2: essence of what that is. And I think a lot
- 16:26Speaker 2: of people have gravitated towards it. And I remember meeting
- 16:31Speaker 2: this younger fan and the Lacuna Coil towards She went
- 16:35Speaker 2: to go watch Lacuna Coil and she know we were
- 16:39Speaker 2: signing stuff and taking pictures after the show. She's like,
- 16:41Speaker 2: I've never heard of you. I only know deja vu.
- 16:44Speaker 2: You guys are awesome. I had to see you, and
- 16:46Speaker 2: I'm like, that's crazy, you know, when you've been doing
- 16:49Speaker 2: it for over twenty years, that's crazy that someone only
- 16:52Speaker 2: knows you for that. So it gives you hope that
- 16:54Speaker 2: you can continue to still mean something to people and
- 16:58Speaker 2: you're not just a nostalgia act, you know. So that's
- 17:01Speaker 2: like I said, we're on a mission. It's not just like, well,
- 17:04Speaker 2: let's just play all the old ship all the time,
- 17:07Speaker 2: which we are going to do, of course, but it's
- 17:10Speaker 2: not just about that.
- 17:13Speaker 3: In the Day's a Voo, of course, is off a
- 17:15Speaker 3: new album. You spoke about it before. What can you
- 17:17Speaker 3: tell us about that?
- 17:20Speaker 2: I'm about like new album? Yeah, oh lord, Look, it's
- 17:29Speaker 2: as a whole. Now. That song specifically doesn't necessarily represent
- 17:35Speaker 2: the album in its entirety. It is a journey, okay,
- 17:40Speaker 2: And much like Escape the Fay albums. For those fans
- 17:45Speaker 2: that have followed us and have listened through whole albums,
- 17:48Speaker 2: there's it's kind of been genres this time. I think
- 17:51Speaker 2: we've actually hammered on a sound that really everything sounds
- 17:55Speaker 2: very cohesive while still expanding into these different branches. So
- 18:00Speaker 2: there's one song we've been playing live that is a
- 18:04Speaker 2: full on thrash metal song. It's it's the fastest song
- 18:07Speaker 2: we've ever played. It's I'm playing blast beats I never
- 18:09Speaker 2: thought I would do, and the double bass is crazy
- 18:13Speaker 2: and the breakdown it's just nonstalt pulverizing energy and we
- 18:17Speaker 2: needed it. It was just this angry feeling and just
- 18:20Speaker 2: screaming and madness and obviously a blistering guitar solo, and
- 18:24Speaker 2: we needed that, and the song started groovy. I said
- 18:27Speaker 2: fuck that, and I turned I changed it, and I said, no,
- 18:29Speaker 2: this needs to be brutal. And then you have, you know,
- 18:33Speaker 2: songs that do lean a little more into the sort
- 18:36Speaker 2: of that the sort of pop element of what we do.
- 18:40Speaker 2: There's a couple songs that have that, but they still
- 18:44Speaker 2: work with the other ones because there is that sort
- 18:47Speaker 2: of still darkness to it and those rifts and the
- 18:51Speaker 2: solos that kind of still marry it all together. So
- 18:55Speaker 2: now this album is the first one I say, this
- 18:56Speaker 2: really sounds like Escape the Fate as a whole. And
- 18:59Speaker 2: there's a weird one in there too that I wrote
- 19:01Speaker 2: while I was very lonely and depressed and I was wondering, if,
- 19:06Speaker 2: you know, maybe I should just fucking blow my brains out.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Would anyone even care?
- 19:11Speaker 1: You know?
- 19:12Speaker 2: And I started writing a song about it, and it's
- 19:15Speaker 2: sort of turned into this madness and I thought to myself, like,
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm even literally writing essentially a suicide note. And no
- 19:24Speaker 2: one stopped to hey, Robert, what what is this? What's
- 19:26Speaker 2: going on? Are you okay, no, no, no, they didn't.
- 19:30Speaker 2: They just like, oh, it's a song like there's there's
- 19:32Speaker 2: a line. And it was controversial within our camp where
- 19:35Speaker 2: it's like I got so many calls me, Rob, you
- 19:38Speaker 2: can't say that. I said, what do you mean, Like
- 19:41Speaker 2: that's the whole point of the song. You know, you
- 19:43Speaker 2: can't say that, dude, that's too extreme. And I'm like,
- 19:47Speaker 2: you're no, Like it's going to be in there. That's
- 19:51Speaker 2: the point. And and it's a weird one and it
- 19:54Speaker 2: turned out crazier and wackier than I thought, and you know,
- 19:57Speaker 2: and it's it's really uh, it's really exciting. So the albums,
- 20:02Speaker 2: I would like to say it's all over the place,
- 20:04Speaker 2: but it's all cohesive. It all works together. It really
- 20:07Speaker 2: is like this awesome just to me, I don't hear
- 20:12Speaker 2: the singles the way we have in past albums in
- 20:15Speaker 2: terms of like, all right, this song is the undeniably
- 20:18Speaker 2: catchy one. This is the one where I don't even
- 20:21Speaker 2: know what radio is. There's still a lot of great
- 20:23Speaker 2: radio stations all over the world, but you know, people stream,
- 20:26Speaker 2: so I don't know. But back in like let's say,
- 20:28Speaker 2: even ten years ago there, we don't have that song
- 20:31Speaker 2: like this is the clear single, this is the radio hit,
- 20:34Speaker 2: we don't have that on here. We have a collective,
- 20:37Speaker 2: really great album and it is hard not to play
- 20:40Speaker 2: it from front to back. And the only harsh critic
- 20:43Speaker 2: I've got is my dad, of course, because he's even
- 20:45Speaker 2: harsher than me. Everyone else seems to really love it,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and they've I've gotten constant this is your best album,
- 20:52Speaker 2: and I'm like, wow when it comes out. Which your
- 20:56Speaker 2: next question be, when when can we expect? I don't know,
- 21:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Oh, very good, all right, Robert, Well, thanks very much
- 21:07Speaker 1: for your time. Bro.
