- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I've got a great show Friday, but first you know a sad day, or you remember 11.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Rip to 11 died on February 1st.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I will tell you my favorite nightmarin memory at the end of the show.
- 0:39Speaker 1: But I mean, first thing I think of is him pretty much winning 40 games automatically Every year, every damn year.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Those are absolutely going crazy.
- 1:01Speaker 1: They're leaving college football, they're going to the NFL where they can coach football, where they can not have to worry about fundraising and recruiting their own team every season, having to compete with schools that have more money than them.
- 1:25Speaker 1: As Jeff Adley said, screw that man.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I'm out Going to Green Bay, cold Snow the coordinator.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Coach them up on the field.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Where's the game going?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Who can compete for a national championship?
- 1:45Speaker 1: How many teams really?
- 1:46Speaker 1: And is it really a championship or a beauty contest?
- 1:56Speaker 1: There's court cases everywhere.
- 1:57Speaker 1: What's the end game?
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's going to be decided in court.
- 2:04Speaker 1: No, it's got to be decided by the federal government eventually.
- 2:07Speaker 1: That's where I mean.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Otherwise, this thing's going out of control.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Man, just one year, how much to learn until Congress steps in?
- 2:27Speaker 1: I would say probably at least a couple more.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I mean, we got to get some presidential election coming up.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Senior Bowl's going down.
- 2:41Speaker 1: A lot of finely tuned athletic machines out there trying to prove themselves.
- 2:50Speaker 1: A lot of scouts.
- 2:51Speaker 1: East West Shrine Bowl going down too.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But welcome in.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I got Jimmy Reno with me.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Luke, yeah, luke, yep.
- 3:06Speaker 1: What do you think about old Jeff Adley leaving Boston College?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Jeff Hathley, hathley.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I'm not surprised by it.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You know he's got a thankless job at Boston College Right.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Well, it just comes game planning and if that's what you want to do, go to the NFL.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I think it's a surprise, as a coordinator leaving a head coaching position.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think you know.
- 3:43Speaker 2: The guy just doesn't want any part of the college game anymore.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Right, what's going on?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Who does I mean?
- 3:52Speaker 1: Nick Saban's playing golf.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He's gone.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 1: He retired?
- 3:58Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Well, I mean, he had a different set of circumstances.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But, yeah, I got like Hathley.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I think it speaks more to the job of a school or of a program like Boston College right now.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Right, yeah, you could make an argument that if there was like a have and have not in college football, they would be in the have not exactly.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So that's the when I'm talking about conferences, and every conference has them.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Unless you're some lot more than others Right, but what's where?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Why are we doing with that?
- 4:36Speaker 1: I think it should be get those conferences are before the TV deals and stuff could come before that.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Like there's the middle guy, right, the middle guy for the TV deal.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, essentially I mean it, you know that's what they play now.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I don't really line up scheduling and stuff.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't really know, other than just being an identifier and, like you said, kind of coordinating schedules and things like that, what the real use for it it's a mockery to chant a conference.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean really.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I mean it's a.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's organized in a bunch of agreements between schools.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Right, Well, that just came out of.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You know, certain fan bases needn't have something to identify with, because it's just we won't name them, Right.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But what's it going to like you?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Why would you go take the job, A job there?
- 5:34Speaker 1: You know you're going to lose a lot of talented coaches.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Now we're going to be, I'm just going to want to go to the NFL and just try to get in there.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Well, and it kind of, for me it's more about the personality of the coach.
- 5:48Speaker 2: What kind of coach is he Right?
- 5:50Speaker 2: I mean, it actually had an NFL background anyway.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You know, like I think a guy that actually enjoys recruiting Exactly you know him using fundraising and and NIL and stuff as a reason, I get it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But also like there's never been a college coaching job that didn't involve fundraising.
- 6:12Speaker 2: That's part of the gig, right?
- 6:14Speaker 2: I mean you raise money for your program, like in one way or the other.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You know the prominent schools is just a booster tour where the guy goes to luncheons and talks to the.
- 6:24Speaker 2: You know, like that's just part of being a college coach.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It doesn't have anything to do with the NIL.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Now that the recent poaching of the talent at a school like like BC, I get that we're already coaching at a disadvantage in terms of resources and, and you know, local talent pool in the Northeast is not what it is, say, in the Southeast and there's quite a few teams in the Southeast in the ACC that they're competing with.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So you're, you're, you know you're already kind of under man there and I think he just viewed it as a thankless kind of a win or lose, lose situation.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I mean I go eight and four and I'm fighting to keep my roster.
- 7:03Speaker 2: You know, screw that, I'm just going to go to the NFL and just concentrate on coaching defense.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But I think there are plenty of coaches out there that would jump at the chance to go up to BC and and you'll be a coach till they get tired of it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I think it's a.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I think it's a really, really hard job right now.
- 7:21Speaker 2: A lot of jobs like that across the country and in power four conferences.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You know that any bit of talent they get the kind of the big dogs in the conference you're gonna be looking at, power four.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Right power two.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It's two.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's a two horse race.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It already is, it has and has nots.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Let's put it like that.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I mean, there shouldn't be conferences.
- 7:44Speaker 2: There's teams that have the money to make the big time commitment to what it takes now to be the elephant Right, and then there's teams that don't, or won't.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And for those teams that you don't, it doesn't matter, they just need to get in like SMU, they don't, it doesn't matter.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they just want to.
- 8:05Speaker 2: They want to be included.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I think they kind of.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But if you're trying to have a like compete and you don't, you need every dollar you can get.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean boss.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Like you know, you look at schools like Syracuse, like Boston college.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It has to take a commitment financially from basically booster or outside entity to get them to compete.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Now Syracuse apparently has started putting big money behind their football team, like this coach Fran Brown, I think his name is that they hired from Georgia.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, apparently yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And I mean so far.
- 8:45Speaker 2: They've started pulling in some, some serious guys through transfer portal.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He's got a couple of recruits.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But you know, like that's what, if you're Boston college, you got to have the same kind of thing happen.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I don't think that they have that ability.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You know Q's has a big network Right, huge network.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Bc is kind of just.
- 9:04Speaker 2: You know you look at schools.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's gonna be a tough job yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: You look at schools like Wake Forest, Right Like dude.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's the same kind of job and it went when, when this newly formed alliance really starts going and looking at college sports.
- 9:22Speaker 1: What is this newly formed?
- 9:23Speaker 2: The SEC and the big 10 just announced that they're forming a committee between the two conferences of presidents and ADs.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You know how much we love committees.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It's gonna be a draft.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: What are they gonna talk about in there?
- 9:40Speaker 1: How to run that, how to run sports?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Right which teams that they want to allow?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Probably Exactly.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Are they gonna?
- 9:46Speaker 1: They're gonna try to make it better for them Of course.
- 9:49Speaker 1: So so what?
- 9:51Speaker 1: What's the end game here?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Cause you're gonna have schools suing conferences now, yeah, suing conferences, suing the NCAA, yeah.
- 10:01Speaker 1: That's what's.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean State legislatures are getting involved.
- 10:05Speaker 2: So Basically they're gonna come down to all right I would.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I would imagine, in terms of, like, what the football landscape is gonna look like is you're gonna see them just start to really really trim some of the fat.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Some of those have nots are gonna be just excluded from whatever cool kids party they're they're planning there with that committee Right.
- 10:30Speaker 2: So, like we say, like teams like Wake Forest BC team, like Vanderbilt, tell you what South Carolina, you better be careful.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, they're about to realign the whole conference Dude Deadweight, yeah, deadweight is a real thing.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And guys can go get together with your academics.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Good academics, good, good something, but if they're really gonna decide that football is king and it's driving everything, then it is.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: There's there's no reason to be splitting the pie with teams that don't bring anything to the table.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Right, you know, and that's that's why it doesn't the conference thing doesn't make sense.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So you just you want to see the best teams, play the best teams and see the teams.
- 11:19Speaker 1: That yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I have a chance that are putting Whatever that is right now.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You don't have a limit or a cap on it, so it's a free-for-all.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Would, also cap on it.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I would also just to put it high or whatever, but I wouldn't be surprised to see something that's green upon.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Some kind of agreement to go at the NCAA, yeah with the NIL thing, to kind of wrestle away power of NIL from the NCAA with this newly formed a line you know.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah these are the two big conferences, we agreed that we don't care, you can pay whatever.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah as long as you file it or something.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Well, I think our own system.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we create.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Ultimately, the schools would probably prefer to be able to do it themselves right, and they, I mean there'd be a lot less Hassle, a lot less threat to the players of outside people Getting involved, things like that Rashada thing going haywire like I.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's what they figured out when they and Pandora's box get a yeah bro, everyone's coming to get it.
- 12:25Speaker 1: You're not.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You don't have control now.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Who wants to come get?
- 12:29Speaker 2: that, that that money, right yeah, one right now you get the sharks are swimming and you blew it.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Sharks are swimming in the water and they're taking advantage of it and honestly I think if you're the NCAA, you should probably just let the schools have that Like yeah, you're not getting that back.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, need to let them, or some let them come, come, do it their Collective agreement of how they want to set up rules.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Right, because that's what you do something productive you need to have competitive balance here right now they're just trying to know it's not yeah, it's, it's a free-for-all coaches.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Coaches that, uh, like the coaches that are in college that already didn't have an interest in recruiting and dealing with, you know, kid players that are younger, coming out of high school, college-age kids, they're gonna be jumping ship.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Liam Cole and OC at Kentucky.
- 13:26Speaker 2: He's headed back to the NFL.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, nfl's Ryan yeah, ryan Grubb, the OC from Washington in the door man.
- 13:33Speaker 2: He got uh yeah they're looking at him with the Seahawks.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you could watch for that.
- 13:38Speaker 1: McDonald went there.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, from the Ravens.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It's yeah, yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's out of a job.
- 13:46Speaker 2: There's BC's coach right there.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, bring him in.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Oh my goodness bring him in.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Why not?
- 13:52Speaker 2: What do you got to lose, except more games?
- 13:55Speaker 2: I mean, who cares?
- 13:57Speaker 2: You're not gonna get all my coach you call it the deon factor man.
- 14:03Speaker 2: It'll at least get the kids in the stands.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Start wearing those, those sleeveless BC hoodies yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah dude man, they won't every, he's no he won't man, he's no.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you know Raheem Morris back in Atlanta.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that that's a good, that's a good hire man got the experience been around.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I heard another shot.
- 14:29Speaker 1: He got his first shot when he was really young, probably wasn't ready.
- 14:31Speaker 1: No and I think he's ready.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Now We'll see what, how he takes that Falcons job.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Oh, dan Quinn.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Danny got another job in Washington right.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna just got that to piss off Dallas.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna be real, real loyalty, jerry.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Every year, every year, every.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh you know what?
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm actually gonna go to Washington.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean, you get a head coaching job.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Peace it.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I mean, is that really a head coaching job?
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's Washington, it's a, it's a head coach Cycle every three years they're changing, I know.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So just go get some of that pie.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, give it a shot.
- 15:09Speaker 2: They literally just they literally just fired the same guy and he'll get Dan Quinn.
- 15:14Speaker 1: We'll be a good head coach for a while and then it'll go be a coordinator again.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Then somebody else.
- 15:20Speaker 1: You know that because he's a high'll be the hottest name on the decoordinator list once he doesn't make it as the coach at Washington right.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Then Bill Callahan's kid will flame out in Tennessee.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And then Big ballet oh double big, big Calhoun, big Bill Callahan son.
- 15:34Speaker 1: They gave him the job Brian Callahan.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Brian Callahan.
- 15:37Speaker 1: All right, I mean hired his son, he hired his father.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Well, of course leaving the brown?
- 15:42Speaker 1: who's leaving the Browns to go to We'll?
- 15:45Speaker 2: go be my kids.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Oh, oh, my coach, yes, so first time ever.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Oh, the son has hired the coach?
- 15:55Speaker 1: Yeah, the son is hired, his father wait wait Lane didn't hire money.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Did he hire money out of USC?
- 16:02Speaker 1: That was USC, though, I think yeah, I don't think it happened in the NFL.
- 16:04Speaker 1: That's right, because I think money was so in Tampa.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it is crazy, you're fired, dad.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you are, you're fired.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Listen, that's gotta be cool.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I gotta fire somebody and you're really pissing me off, I mean get over for my son.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Go and work for your son.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah well, Senior Bowl.
- 16:28Speaker 2: He's anything like his dad.
- 16:30Speaker 2: He won't last long at head coach.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Senior bowl.
- 16:32Speaker 1: You know, you got those Specimens out there, Some guys out there.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You got a guy like Fisk man.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You know we like Fiskie.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Yeah, what it sounds like is he did the best for himself, spitting in the cooler yeah, he's spitting in that cooler, he's spitting a cooler.
- 16:54Speaker 1: He happens to be a finely tuned athletic machine and I ain't gonna have him hit in the head by some idiot water boy.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, he might.
- 17:06Speaker 1: He can do it every once, you know he really can he might be that guy.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I think he, um, I mean just his.
- 17:14Speaker 2: You know the, the measurables, I guess the arm length and all that kind of stuff is what what they knock him for.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I know so, but he's a gamer man right Got a motor.
- 17:25Speaker 1: What it sounds like, though, he's they.
- 17:27Speaker 2: There's a real shot that he could go round two or three.
- 17:30Speaker 2: He take, he eats up blocks, eats him up.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I mean he came on towards towards the end of the season, he started just dominating right and that's gonna be Something valued like.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Look at him when you know load starts Happening, he starts excelling.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, when when everybody else starts getting tired, he gets crazy.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I'm thinking late second round, somebody sneaks in there, somebody with already really style defensive line.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Jared verse.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It's gonna be a top draft pick, I think.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I Hope somebody out of the Dolphin skin.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I don't think he'll fire that.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, all that far.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Combine is gonna be really big for for a few guys.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Johnny Wilson, the second tallest wide receiver in the history of this, is where I'd come by.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and I think he has the longest wingspan out of any wide receiver that that's ever been invited right, which is ridiculous.
- 18:22Speaker 2: The best teams don't fall in love with these things though.
- 18:28Speaker 1: They look at, but, but they also look at.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You know, if that can that?
- 18:31Speaker 2: could be the deciding factor.
- 18:33Speaker 1: That kid's that big if he does something like run.
- 18:36Speaker 2: A sub four, six, forty with Johnny.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Yeah, all of a sudden like Holies, yeah, yeah, yeah, this kid might sneak into Early second round or is he gonna have to play tied in?
- 18:45Speaker 2: I think that's a big that's, that's probably.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I mean you look at.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Look at, look at, look at Travis Kelsey.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You know, when he was coming out of the coming out in the drafts, he was about 250, it was about six three two fifty, so he could just be like a like.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Pits yeah, johnny Wilson, right now is six, seven, he's two thirty five, right, you know, you put some matchup problem.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you put maybe 10 pounds on him, don't lose a lot of speed.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I mean, I think he can like some block cornerbacks downfield.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, will it be?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Will he be able to drop block grown defensive ends?
- 19:24Speaker 2: and what I'm saying is if he does something like run a sub 4, 6, 40, like people are gonna be like holy shit, we can put them at wide receiver.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, exactly, I think you can, because of his radius.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah and he's fast enough.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I think I've seen him play.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I've seen him turn it on.
- 19:41Speaker 1: He's a gamer, he's not.
- 19:43Speaker 2: That the question is gonna be obvious it's gonna be the hands right.
- 19:47Speaker 1: But right, he's gonna catch the ball, but he is.
- 19:49Speaker 1: He's a clutched guy and he the speed comes on when it needs to right and a lot of those.
- 19:55Speaker 1: The speed drills.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Man is so professionalized now.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I mean you can Get so good at those things and wind up not being any good at football.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So I, I did like his ability to get open Kind of.
- 20:11Speaker 2: For me it sort of neutralizes any question of his speed.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Yeah, put him with a little bit more back a good quarterback with the salt, yeah, and they start working together, he can build.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm telling you he'll, he'll, he'll get a job and someone's gonna over the middle.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you can just throw it there and he's got that radius to catch it now.
- 20:31Speaker 2: You throw high over middle like Brock Erty.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Saying Kyle like the Rams now not the.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Rams, I know you don't want that, but now keep him out of the West, and this is telling it in there like a.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Stafford, who's vet enough to somebody that throws higher in the middle Baker Mayfield, after Mike Evans leaves Johnny Wilson.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Oh, there you go.
- 20:55Speaker 2: There you go, but yeah, fiske, he's doing the best for himself right now.
