- 0:07Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports very daily here on Radio Folks
- 0:10Speaker 1: then bringing you the Folks Don't Hive Sports Show. On
- 0:18Speaker 1: today's show, we have reports on our local cricket teams.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We've got my report on Sunday's Race for Life on
- 0:23Speaker 1: the LEAs, we got a round up of where our
- 0:27Speaker 1: local athletes went to run a park run as the
- 0:30Speaker 1: Folks and over ones were canceled. And we've got news
- 0:35Speaker 1: of the Charing ten K which is happening tomorrow evening,
- 0:41Speaker 1: plus any other sporty snippets that I can find. And
- 0:48Speaker 1: our special guest in the studio today, the return of
- 0:51Speaker 1: the Lez Houston from our Glass Fitness in Hawkins. We'll
- 0:54Speaker 1: be chatting to him shortly'd find out what's going on
- 0:56Speaker 1: up there.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Sadly, it's time for a musical tribute. If you grew
- 1:07Speaker 1: up in the seventies, you remember sly and the Family
- 1:10Speaker 1: Stone with the lead singer. Sly Stone recently passed away
- 1:14Speaker 1: at the age of eighty two. And what many people
- 1:16Speaker 1: didn't realize was that the name of the group was
- 1:19Speaker 1: perfect because the group actually included members of his family,
- 1:23Speaker 1: his brother Freddie and his sisters Veetta and Rose. Theos
- 1:27Speaker 1: included the dance to the music everyday people, but I'm
- 1:31Speaker 1: going to play this one, which is one of my favorites.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So rest in peace, Slyer. This is it's a family affair.
- 2:11Speaker 1: We'll have a sly and a family stone there and
- 2:13Speaker 1: a little tribute justly passed away during the week. Okay, anyway,
- 2:20Speaker 1: this is a sports show, so we don't want to
- 2:21Speaker 1: get too upset. We're going to move on and welcome
- 2:25Speaker 1: to the show. Les Houston. Hello, let's how are you?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Thanks, glad to be back.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah, great to see you. Yeah, And I mean it
- 2:33Speaker 1: is the is the hour Glass Fitness still standing up
- 2:36Speaker 1: there is the wins.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Just about We've been for our fourth marquee now but.
- 2:40Speaker 1: We're still okay, well, let's let's go back to the
- 2:43Speaker 1: early days. And I do remember going up there in
- 2:45Speaker 1: the early days and I think probably the second marquee.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But for those listeners that have never experienced going up
- 2:53Speaker 1: to our Glass Fitness, tell us exactly where it is
- 2:57Speaker 1: and what to look out for.
- 2:58Speaker 3: So we're based in the grounds on the outfield of
- 3:01Speaker 3: Hawkings Cricket Club, basing the marquee. Predominantly we use the Marque,
- 3:06Speaker 3: but of course we got the luxury of using the
- 3:08Speaker 3: cricket outfield like we are at the moment with this
- 3:11Speaker 3: lovely weather, so we can go outside to do the classes,
- 3:14Speaker 3: which brings a whole new element of how we can
- 3:16Speaker 3: do the classes and instruct them and indeed have more people.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good because when you think of a gym
- 3:23Speaker 1: in the summer, and when you think of their conditioning,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but there's nothing like a bit of fresh air.
- 3:26Speaker 2: No, we've got the best.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah there, right, and if you like, can you take
- 3:35Speaker 1: extra if you know that you're going to do the
- 3:37Speaker 1: class outside.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, what I do is I'll gauge our class numbers.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Obviously for safety reasons as well, that's the paramount thing,
- 3:44Speaker 3: and obviously the ground condition. If I think it's suitable,
- 3:47Speaker 3: then we can increase the class numbers to fifty sixty people.
- 3:52Speaker 2: In one hit.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Okay, So once again, let's go back to the early
- 3:56Speaker 1: days of the marquee. I mean, have you learned a
- 3:58Speaker 1: lot about marquees. You've placed a few, So do you
- 4:01Speaker 1: go back to the same people or do you sort
- 4:03Speaker 1: of try you know, another another manufacturer.
- 4:06Speaker 3: We use a company that's based in Denmark and that
- 4:10Speaker 3: they seem to there seem to last the longest. It's
- 4:14Speaker 3: our members are fantastic. They come and help us put
- 4:16Speaker 3: it up. As you can imagine, it's eight by twelve meters.
- 4:19Speaker 3: It's quite a task taking the old one down and
- 4:22Speaker 3: then putting the new one up.
- 4:23Speaker 2: You need a lot of manpower.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But yeah, and we've learned a lot with ratchet stretch
- 4:28Speaker 3: the thing down against the wind. The only problem we
- 4:30Speaker 3: got is the friction of the wind constantly rubbing on
- 4:33Speaker 3: the metal work, fading. Then water gets in and then
- 4:37Speaker 3: it's just needs replaced. LPAN is probably about I don't know,
- 4:40Speaker 3: twelve to fourteen months tops, absolute tops, and.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Can you get anything back on the old ones?
- 4:47Speaker 2: You know that?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Can they go away and be refurbished. So that's the
- 4:49Speaker 1: end of the life.
- 4:50Speaker 3: They get sliced up and get taken down the tip.
- 4:53Speaker 1: All right, okay, so let's talk about the classes themselves
- 5:00Speaker 1: that membership have, that membership, how's your membership got membership?
- 5:02Speaker 2: What our classes?
- 5:04Speaker 3: We like people to sort of come along because it's different,
- 5:06Speaker 3: it's not a mainstream gym. We always offer the first
- 5:10Speaker 3: six classes free so people can come, they can have
- 5:13Speaker 3: a look, meet people at members of really resociable guys.
- 5:18Speaker 3: See if they like it, and then I give an
- 5:19Speaker 3: option of just two memberships. One is twenty five pounds
- 5:23Speaker 3: a month unlimited class bookings. We run between thirty four
- 5:27Speaker 3: and thirty six classes a week, So if you was
- 5:29Speaker 3: to do every single class, not that you're going to do,
- 5:32Speaker 3: it works out to seventeen pencer class.
- 5:34Speaker 1: On your knees. Yeah, very fit though.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Oh. The other option is payers to go classes at
- 5:40Speaker 3: five pounder class after you've had your.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Six three sessions yeah, yeah, okay, and I should think
- 5:46Speaker 1: you get a lot of people do stay on after
- 5:48Speaker 1: those six Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 3: People come as to say it's not judgmental. We don't
- 5:52Speaker 3: believe in mirrors up there. Instructors are fantastic minutte Kelly
- 5:59Speaker 3: Dave top instructors and yeah, really really good buzz about
- 6:04Speaker 3: the place.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And are you an instructor yourself?
- 6:07Speaker 3: I am a personal trainer up to level four, also
- 6:10Speaker 3: medical referral instructor. Also teaching care homes.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'll do the disability people we are okay, yeah, And
- 6:19Speaker 1: when you go into care homes, do you take a physical.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Class or you just yeah, take a physical class. Obviously
- 6:24Speaker 3: some of it has to be chair based. Again, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 3: people with difficulty walk into You've got to be careful
- 6:31Speaker 3: in what you want them to do. It's a lot
- 6:34Speaker 3: more intense than like training able bodied people. But I
- 6:37Speaker 3: love doing it. They love the classes and they get
- 6:40Speaker 3: a lot from it. We both do.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and do you see that they're really enjoying it.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, hundred percent, Yeah, hundred percent. The favorite one of
- 6:47Speaker 3: them is boxing. Believe it or not, is it? Yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 3: they like a bit of boxing. I think they get
- 6:51Speaker 3: a lot of anger out.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well you're talking about boxing. He's such a
- 6:56Speaker 1: busy man of trying to get him in. Mark Through
- 6:58Speaker 1: is up at the boxing club on the racecourse there
- 7:02Speaker 1: and he's just he's because I would like to say
- 7:05Speaker 1: as a youngster. He's probably in his twenties. He went
- 7:07Speaker 1: to love Borough. But he holds a class for people
- 7:11Speaker 1: that suffer from Parkinson's excellently. Yeah, And he said they've
- 7:16Speaker 1: seen the improvement and I've seen the interviews with people
- 7:19Speaker 1: that suffer from Parkinson's disease and they're just doing general
- 7:23Speaker 1: you know, to keep the movement going and that and
- 7:25Speaker 1: they love it, absolutely love it. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I've always find like the position of the pads, if
- 7:29Speaker 3: your jabs or hooks, it gets their mind ticking over.
- 7:32Speaker 3: You know, you're show them a pad like face face
- 7:35Speaker 3: punch punch, side side hook hook. Yeah, and it gets
- 7:38Speaker 3: their minds working as well as keeping them nice and fit.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Right, and do you do Let's run through the classes
- 7:43Speaker 1: that you do. Do you do kind of a boxer
- 7:45Speaker 1: size class? We do a box class class.
- 7:47Speaker 3: A lot of their classes on the timetable on our
- 7:50Speaker 3: Facebook page. I have to call different names because they're
- 7:54Speaker 3: copyrighted by like Lesmills and people like that, although they
- 7:57Speaker 3: are predominantly the same class.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You know, we can't do that.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So our Lesbian's pump Mac body Pump Sorry, ours is
- 8:06Speaker 3: called Pump Max Spin, I'm not allowed to called spin.
- 8:09Speaker 3: It's called studio cycle, body combat, totally shredded with weights.
- 8:14Speaker 3: But Kelly, Kelly Dyer fantastic Zumba instructor and also the
- 8:19Speaker 3: Vibes step instructor. She's got the correct qualifications and we
- 8:23Speaker 3: can use the proper names for them classes as well
- 8:25Speaker 3: as fitness pilates, yeah, which me both me and Kelly teach.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Right, So membership, I mean, how many members have you got.
- 8:35Speaker 2: At the moment.
- 8:35Speaker 3: We currently got one hundred and sixty two members full
- 8:39Speaker 3: paying on full membership and we've probably got about twenty
- 8:42Speaker 3: five pay as you go members.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, you're getting on, so getting on for two hundred.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean two years. I think it was two
- 8:48Speaker 2: years ago and I was lasting here.
- 8:49Speaker 3: We was in the seventies, and that's progressed on, you
- 8:52Speaker 3: know with Yeah, a lot of people, and a lot
- 8:54Speaker 3: of it's done through word of mouth. You know, people come,
- 8:57Speaker 3: they have the six Yeah, you've got to come up
- 8:59Speaker 3: to our glass. This is really really good up here.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, excellent. And A what about the ratio of mental ladies?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Well, that's a that's a funny one.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I would say it's probably ninety percent ladies and only
- 9:11Speaker 3: ten percent men.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm joining.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't worry about that with all my girls.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah are really Yeah, I mean that's not I mean
- 9:22Speaker 1: that's a high statistic for ladies. Have you wrecked your
- 9:26Speaker 1: brains to find out where the men don't go? Oh?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Is it because it's like they're not being tested on
- 9:32Speaker 1: some of your classes?
- 9:33Speaker 3: Well, I mean I trust me, I put them through
- 9:35Speaker 3: the But I do think a lot of guys like
- 9:38Speaker 3: the fixed resistance machines as you know that we've don't
- 9:42Speaker 3: We're not that we're a fitness studio, so all our
- 9:44Speaker 3: classes are just class based using bar bells, kettle bells,
- 9:50Speaker 3: dance movements with Kelly Stepp, so on and so forth. Now,
- 9:54Speaker 3: whether a lot of guys you know think maybe not
- 9:57Speaker 3: for me, I don't know, but you know, I promise
- 10:00Speaker 3: if it was to come up to us, welcome hard.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Don't worry about that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah all right, So I mean, are there any other classes?
- 10:07Speaker 1: If we left anything out? Anyone was ab attack? So
- 10:11Speaker 1: abba music is it a plain or not quite?
- 10:14Speaker 2: Not quite?
- 10:14Speaker 3: They kill me if I played every I think no,
- 10:16Speaker 3: it's literally a fifteen minute blast up on your abs, right,
- 10:20Speaker 3: you know, I wouldn't want to do any more than that.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Another class, actually, I forgot to mention which is really
- 10:25Speaker 3: really good for those ladies going through the menopauls post
- 10:29Speaker 3: or premenopaulse always Meno Fit, which the brilliant net takes,
- 10:33Speaker 3: which specializes on eating exercise while going through the menopools
- 10:37Speaker 3: hormonal changes.
- 10:39Speaker 2: She covers the lot.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yeah, oh that's interesting. Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 3: So actually that's a good class, well attended and open
- 10:45Speaker 3: to non members. They just want to turn up and pay,
- 10:48Speaker 3: you know, on the date. That's fine. I should just say,
- 10:51Speaker 3: the first six classes I added because that's a workshop.
- 10:56Speaker 2: They have to pay for that on the day.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, And so does the booking system work
- 11:01Speaker 1: your book online? And if you start getting quick you
- 11:03Speaker 1: have to wait?
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the waiting lists are tend only to
- 11:06Speaker 3: be in the evening and people generally get in. It's
- 11:09Speaker 3: not normally an issue. It's done via an app which
- 11:13Speaker 3: you download to your phone. Okay, and now let's you
- 11:16Speaker 3: see the timetable and book classes seven days in advance.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And then if people want, like, if they can like
- 11:23Speaker 3: message me on seven five, nine, five four too, one
- 11:28Speaker 3: six eight zero, and then I can set you up
- 11:31Speaker 3: on our system, send you the link book it on
- 11:34Speaker 3: and there you go. You've got your first six three classes.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Okay, brilliant. Right, we're gonna have a little break now
- 11:40Speaker 1: because we've got still got plenty to talk about. I've
- 11:42Speaker 1: got lots of other issues to add. I've did this
- 11:45Speaker 1: one out of the playlist. This is the one for you.
- 11:48Speaker 1: There's this is Olivia Newton John. And for all your
- 11:51Speaker 1: members up there doing abs, attack and everything else, this
- 11:53Speaker 1: is physical. Well that's Olivia Newton John.
- 12:27Speaker 3: There.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I've been doing all those exercises
- 12:31Speaker 1: in the studio. Oh, I'm absolutely worn. Ow oh Lez,
- 12:33Speaker 1: there's not a drop a sweat on him. He's a
- 12:35Speaker 1: fit man, I'll tell you.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Okay, Lets now you said the thing that I want
- 12:41Speaker 1: to talk about is the actual building, and I do
- 12:43Speaker 1: remember when it went up and there was what it
- 12:47Speaker 1: was just bad luck. It was like there was a
- 12:49Speaker 1: couple of really really bad storms within a short period
- 12:51Speaker 1: of time. So going forward, is it just going to
- 12:55Speaker 1: be a continuation of replacing the Marquee every year?
- 13:00Speaker 3: So the game plan I've got at the moment is,
- 13:03Speaker 3: obviously we've had to put in planning the game because
- 13:06Speaker 3: they are planning is up to four years. Believe it
- 13:08Speaker 3: or not. That four years has gone so quick. So
- 13:10Speaker 3: we've got to put planning in the game to replace
- 13:12Speaker 3: the Marquee, and then we're going to try and look
- 13:15Speaker 3: at a more weather proof construction, not a marque, not
- 13:21Speaker 3: a permanent building, but the next sort of step up,
- 13:24Speaker 3: just to protect the members from the prevailing winds up
- 13:27Speaker 3: there and the winters are quite cold up there, and
- 13:30Speaker 3: also like being a little bit more friendly to the
- 13:33Speaker 3: community around now.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And have you done your homework on that
- 13:37Speaker 1: I mean with the same people in Denmark provided or no, No, that's.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Going to be built in the UK.
- 13:43Speaker 3: There's a company that we're looking up in based in Rugby,
- 13:47Speaker 3: funny enough, which I'm going to go up there over
- 13:50Speaker 3: the next couple of weeks and have a look at
- 13:51Speaker 3: the factory. You know that these things come down pre fabricated,
- 13:55Speaker 3: pre made, which would mean we don't have to close
- 13:58Speaker 3: the Fitish studio for four days, believe it or not,
- 14:03Speaker 3: so they reckon they can have it up and running
- 14:05Speaker 3: in four days.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, right, so have you. But you still have
- 14:10Speaker 1: to get planning permission first to replace the marquee.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we're putting for that at the moment. So on
- 14:16Speaker 3: the plan in Porter. If anybody wants to comment on
- 14:19Speaker 3: it and give us a funds up, it'd be most appreciated.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Then I've got to put planning in a gain once
- 14:24Speaker 3: we've got that for the new build.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're hoping that you can still keep that
- 14:30Speaker 1: mark although you've got the planning permission, you can still
- 14:32Speaker 1: keep the marquee up and then hopefully get further planning
- 14:34Speaker 1: permission for a different type of building. Yeah, right, gotcha,
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah right, Oh that is very positive. Yeah, good. And
- 14:41Speaker 1: will it be the same.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Size, No, I think we're the We're going to try
- 14:45Speaker 3: a little bit bigger extra storage room as well and
- 14:50Speaker 3: incorporate it.
- 14:50Speaker 2: At the moment.
- 14:51Speaker 3: The Cricket Club has got containers for their equipment. Obviously
- 14:56Speaker 3: this time of year it's stuff suffering with due dripping
- 14:58Speaker 3: down from the ceiling, ruining their machinery. That's quite expensive.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So all one sort of contain building for like us
- 15:05Speaker 3: in the Cricket Club, because you know we work alongside
- 15:08Speaker 3: the Cricket Club.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I can ask you about that. I mean it our's
- 15:11Speaker 1: the relationships.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's fantastic.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I couldn't thank the Cricket Club enough for the opportunity
- 15:16Speaker 3: they've given our class to get where we are Without
- 15:19Speaker 3: them would be impossible, Yeah, really would.
- 15:21Speaker 1: And I dare say they benefit by getting social members
- 15:23Speaker 1: in today from there's a few.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Like you know members extra. I've run two or three
- 15:31Speaker 3: rounders a year, help out on like members Day.
- 15:35Speaker 1: With rounders, rounders, games, game games.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Okay, so yeah, we do two to three of them
- 15:40Speaker 2: a year.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Also, like we run events like the Easter egg Hunt.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Our classes always works with them, which the kids love.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Except I don't dress up to the don't worry about that.
- 15:51Speaker 3: One of my daughters do.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, it works really really well.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Oh good. Yeah, and I suppose you could even hire
- 15:58Speaker 1: it out yourself if you need to do a presentation
- 16:00Speaker 1: evening or something.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Well we do it. We always have two Christmas doves.
- 16:03Speaker 3: We have the Hourglass Party at the Cricket Club and
- 16:06Speaker 3: there are because I like trying to keep the business
- 16:09Speaker 3: local up to Hawkins, nothing deterrental.
- 16:13Speaker 2: We've focused them.
- 16:15Speaker 3: And we always booked the white Horse Pub for as
- 16:18Speaker 3: mill so two a.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Year up there.
- 16:19Speaker 1: That's good. You've got to keep stuff local. I mean
- 16:21Speaker 1: you you know, you get local people where it gets
- 16:24Speaker 1: around that it's great. It's a great little community you've
- 16:28Speaker 1: got and put together and now it's blossomed over these
- 16:31Speaker 1: last couple Yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 3: It's been a lot of hard work, but it's got
- 16:33Speaker 3: there and we're reaping the benefits there and it's time
- 16:36Speaker 3: to push on and make improvements, make it, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 3: a much better place. And you've got quite a big
- 16:43Speaker 3: membership now. But is there a kind of a ceiling
- 16:45Speaker 3: you think or is it still down to people wanting
- 16:48Speaker 3: to book those classes and you know, so what will
- 16:51Speaker 3: happen is on the new building. I'm going to work
- 16:54Speaker 3: out the square footage to keep everybody safe.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That is the most important thing.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Okay, there's other gyms here have the doors open, and
- 17:03Speaker 3: there's no instructors there at all, which I find absolutely crazy.
- 17:06Speaker 3: You know, nobody there to check your technique, to check
- 17:09Speaker 3: your form, what you're doing. I everd reports of kids
- 17:12Speaker 3: frying weights at one another at one of the gyms.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I won't name the gym because that's not fair. I
- 17:16Speaker 3: don't want that, no, So yeah, so yeah, safety is paramount.
- 17:20Speaker 3: You know, if Kelly doesn't think like you know, one day,
- 17:24Speaker 3: if the floor is a little bit wet because of
- 17:25Speaker 3: the marquees like that, she won't hold him, or we
- 17:28Speaker 3: try and get over there early. We've got special equipment
- 17:31Speaker 3: that we used to dry the floor quickly. So yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 3: that's the number one thing.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Oh, it's good you're looking after your your clients actually,
- 17:38Speaker 1: so anybody thinking of going up to our glass then
- 17:43Speaker 1: you've got to be well looked after obviously, Right, is
- 17:47Speaker 1: there anything else that you want to add that might
- 17:52Speaker 1: encourage for something. Someone's driving around in the car right
- 17:55Speaker 1: now listening to this, and this's wetting their repetite. What
- 17:58Speaker 1: would you like to say to them?
- 18:00Speaker 3: Well, the other thing I should mention is if anybody
- 18:03Speaker 3: contacts me, I give them the opportunity to come and
- 18:06Speaker 3: see me personally in my own personal training studio, to
- 18:10Speaker 3: give them like a little medical It's nothing invasive. It's
- 18:13Speaker 3: blood pressure, sax levels, oxygen levels, you know, lung function test,
- 18:18Speaker 3: have a little chat, find out a bit more about them,
- 18:21Speaker 3: what they want to do, what they want to achieve,
- 18:23Speaker 3: especially if they're nervous coming back into fitness off for
- 18:26Speaker 3: a few years and worried about going into that sort
- 18:28Speaker 3: of environment.
- 18:29Speaker 2: And then we can introduce them.
- 18:31Speaker 3: And I always make sure the first class they book,
- 18:34Speaker 3: I'm there so I'm their point of contact, and then
- 18:37Speaker 3: we can introduce them back into fitness gradually in their
- 18:41Speaker 3: own comfort zone. I mean, we've got people, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 3: all sizes, all shapes, all fitness levels, and we're just
- 18:48Speaker 3: one big, happy family at our class. It's always made
- 18:52Speaker 3: a family thing.
- 18:53Speaker 1: That's very reassuring. Actually, again, if you're out there listening
- 18:56Speaker 1: to this that, I mean, let's us specially wouldn't want
- 19:01Speaker 1: you to come in and if you like buster gut
- 19:03Speaker 1: and on your first your first session, get put off
- 19:07Speaker 1: by it and perhaps even injure yourself what you're doing.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Correct.
- 19:10Speaker 3: That's why I like them to come to me, have
- 19:11Speaker 3: a chat and you know, we can see where they are,
- 19:14Speaker 3: what they want to do, you know, short, medium, long
- 19:17Speaker 3: term goals and take it from there. And it's free,
- 19:20Speaker 3: by the way, that you don't have to pay for that.
- 19:21Speaker 3: That's a free consultation and then you get your six
- 19:24Speaker 3: three classes when you come excellent.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So so le's I mean, the membership's growing and do
- 19:32Speaker 1: you think you've sort of topped out and all you've got.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I've got your class menu here in front of me,
- 19:39Speaker 1: and it's absolutely jam packed, isn't it? Are you poor
- 19:42Speaker 1: old Liz on a prie day you don't seem to
- 19:44Speaker 1: get a day off.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Well, no I don't, but I enjoy it as well,
- 19:47Speaker 3: and it keeps me fit, you know, it's not you know,
- 19:50Speaker 3: it helps me to sort of keep into shape.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And your instructors we've got Killy, Minette and Dave. I mean,
- 19:59Speaker 1: I know it's different court now, but do they have
- 20:01Speaker 1: to reach a certain standard of qualification to carry out
- 20:05Speaker 1: this sort.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Of Yeah, one hundred percent, definitely A level two instructor
- 20:10Speaker 3: Gym instructor to sort of take classes and then it
- 20:12Speaker 3: branches off from there, so specializing so I like Kelly
- 20:16Speaker 3: with Simba and Vibe Step that's another fitness polities as well,
- 20:20Speaker 3: and then also Minette with the Meno Fit. These people
- 20:23Speaker 3: have to go special courses. Dave is also the same
- 20:26Speaker 3: level instructor as may level four medical referral instructor. So
- 20:30Speaker 3: all our instructors are fully qualified, fully insured, their.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Top draw instructors right, excellent, So that is people out
- 20:37Speaker 1: there is very reassuring there. So that's so good to hear. Okay,
- 20:42Speaker 1: so we're running. This has gone quick so quick, les
- 20:45Speaker 1: I think what we I'd like to do is hand
- 20:48Speaker 1: it over to you to say any thank yous or yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and then we'll finally get to points of contact. But yeah,
- 20:55Speaker 1: if you go so well.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Obviously the number one thank you is to my instructors
- 20:59Speaker 3: for all their supp Number two Hawkins Cricket Club we
- 21:02Speaker 3: won't be there, and of course more importantly Momentum members. Yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 3: you know you've all been fantastic and just the community
- 21:10Speaker 3: of Hawkins and surrounding areas. You know, we're attracting people
- 21:13Speaker 3: from a Chris from Penny from Newington from Folkstone all around.
- 21:17Speaker 3: They're all starting to come up, you know, they want
- 21:19Speaker 3: to get out that mainstream gum syndrome and come and
- 21:23Speaker 3: try something different. And if you want to do that,
- 21:25Speaker 3: there's no better place than our Glass.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Right yeah, because there's a bit daunting going into a
- 21:28Speaker 1: gym where people are if you're like sweating and pumping
- 21:31Speaker 1: away and the environment can be sort of a claustrophobic,
- 21:34Speaker 1: can't it. I've been up to your site. You've got
- 21:37Speaker 1: loads of space. If anyone's sort of getting a bit
- 21:40Speaker 1: out of breath or whatever, I'm sure they can just
- 21:42Speaker 1: go and have a little walk all around the pitch
- 21:44Speaker 1: or whatever. Fantastic. Yeah, okay, Le's so there. The people
- 21:50Speaker 1: have been listening to this and they want to take
- 21:52Speaker 1: you up on your offer. How do they get in touch?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:54Speaker 3: Well, they can contact me in my mobile which is
- 21:58Speaker 3: seven five nine five four to one six eight zero,
- 22:03Speaker 3: or asked to join the Facebook page our Glass Fitness
- 22:07Speaker 3: Hawking or the only other one is our website which
- 22:11Speaker 3: is www dot our Glass Fitness hawkinge dot co dot uk.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Let's thank you. Well, I mean, I'd just like to
- 22:21Speaker 1: say that today's having a chat with you today has
- 22:25Speaker 1: maybe realized as just how specialists you are up there,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and how how rewarding you are to your customers and
- 22:31Speaker 1: how you look after them. So I think that is
- 22:33Speaker 1: really a patter on the back. And let's hope that
- 22:36Speaker 1: you get the planning permissions that you require and then
- 22:40Speaker 1: you just go that one step further and get this
- 22:43Speaker 1: other building, which sounds like a great idea. A bit
- 22:46Speaker 1: more weatherproof and a bit more environmentally friendly. That's all
- 22:49Speaker 1: you want, isn't it.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Okay, thank you so much, cheers right, Okay, so time
- 22:54Speaker 1: for a bit of music now. From nineteen ninety eight
- 22:57Speaker 1: we have got sure and believed UK bushes, but I
- 23:18Speaker 1: share their nineteen ninety eight and believe Well, that was
- 23:26Speaker 1: an interesting chat with Les Houston there from our glass
- 23:29Speaker 1: fitness it sounds that you're in very very safe hands
- 23:32Speaker 1: up there. Okay, So now cricket news. Now, despite the
- 23:37Speaker 1: threat of rain lost Saturday, all our local games went ahead.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So let's give you a rundown of what happened. Second
- 23:44Speaker 1: place seven Oaks Vine Cricket Club were the visitors to
- 23:47Speaker 1: to three Hills to take on Folkston First eleven. Seven
- 23:51Speaker 1: Oaks won the toss and put Folkstone into Bat who
- 23:54Speaker 1: made one hundred and sixty three for seven in forty
- 23:56Speaker 1: six overs. I think the weather did affect this one
- 23:59Speaker 1: slightly due to the weather. I think well seven Oaks
- 24:02Speaker 1: made one hundred and thirty seven to three in their
- 24:04Speaker 1: thirty two overs, but were actually set a revised target
- 24:08Speaker 1: of eighty seven in thirty two overs, so they won
- 24:11Speaker 1: the game by seven wickets. This week, Folks and visit
- 24:15Speaker 1: Maystone to play a Mote a Mote Cricket Club. Hive
- 24:19Speaker 1: Cricket Club were at home to Betsanger Colliery, who won
- 24:22Speaker 1: the toss and decided to bat, but only made seventy
- 24:25Speaker 1: one runs. Matt Cobb taking four wickets for twenty three
- 24:29Speaker 1: runs I have knocked off to seventy three runs for
- 24:32Speaker 1: the loss of just one wicket, winning the game by
- 24:34Speaker 1: nine wickets. This Saturday, Hive traveled to Why Cricket Club,
- 24:39Speaker 1: just outside Ashford. Iive Green were away to Tenendon. They
- 24:43Speaker 1: won the toss to put Tendon in the bat into Bat,
- 24:46Speaker 1: who made one hundred and forty three all out. The
- 24:49Speaker 1: Green then made a one hundred and forty four for
- 24:52Speaker 1: nine in what must have been a very tense finish,
- 24:54Speaker 1: winning the game by just one wicket. Now Nelson Cricket
- 24:58Speaker 1: Club from Thannet, who had to travel to Salt the
- 25:00Speaker 1: week before, make the trip over to the Shepway region
- 25:03Speaker 1: once more as they are hive Green's next opponents. Meanwhile,
- 25:08Speaker 1: Silt was turned to it was Salt was turned to
- 25:10Speaker 1: head over to Thanet as they visited north Down. Sealward
- 25:14Speaker 1: won the toss and put north Down into bat who
- 25:16Speaker 1: made one hundred and fifty nine all out in thirty overs.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Sealward made one hundred and twenty four for seven in
- 25:21Speaker 1: their thirty overs so lost the game by thirty five runs.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Now this week Siltward are at home to Tenzandon. Linton
- 25:29Speaker 1: Park from Maidstone were the visitors to Sipton Park. Linton
- 25:32Speaker 1: won the toss and decided to field. The Sibs then
- 25:35Speaker 1: went on to make two hundred and six for seven
- 25:37Speaker 1: in forty five overs. High escorer was Ben Allen who
- 25:40Speaker 1: made eighty two. Ben then went on to take five
- 25:44Speaker 1: wickets for twenty nine runs and young Harry Row took
- 25:47Speaker 1: three wickets for twenty four, bowling out Linton for one
- 25:50Speaker 1: hundred and fifty six runs, so they won the game
- 25:53Speaker 1: by fifty runs. This week, the Sibs are away to
- 25:56Speaker 1: Addington which means a trip to West Morling. Hawkins travel
- 26:00Speaker 1: to Deal Victoria on Barnes Close and recorded the highest
- 26:03Speaker 1: victory of the day, winning the game by ten wickets.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Hawkings won the toss and put their opponents into bat,
- 26:08Speaker 1: who could only make forty four runs all out in
- 26:11Speaker 1: their twenty overs. The two openers Terry Dunham and Ashu
- 26:15Speaker 1: tosh Dimuku, I think as for stayed at the crees
- 26:19Speaker 1: who made forty eight runs necessary between them that gave
- 26:23Speaker 1: them the victory by ten wickets. This week, the Canterbury
- 26:26Speaker 1: thirt eleven are the visitors. Well it's thirty days yet,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but let us have a look now how our local
- 26:32Speaker 1: teams are doing in their respective leagues in the championship.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Folks in first eleven are ninth out of ten High
- 26:39Speaker 1: the top of Division eight Shepherd Section and Hawkins the
- 26:43Speaker 1: second out of nine teams in the same league. In
- 26:46Speaker 1: Division nine Shepherd Section, Hive Green our second and Salt
- 26:50Speaker 1: With our seventh out of ten and Sipton Park of
- 26:53Speaker 1: fifth in Division five Hurricane out of ten teams. So
- 26:57Speaker 1: it looks like Folks to need a couple of back
- 26:59Speaker 1: to back wins too lift them up the table. Five
- 27:02Speaker 1: Hawkins and Hive Green have made an excellent start, with
- 27:05Speaker 1: Saltwood and Sipton Park currently in mid table. But it's
- 27:08Speaker 1: early days yet. Most teams have played only four or
- 27:11Speaker 1: five games so far in a season that could mean
- 27:14Speaker 1: eighteen games. Okay, time for a bit of music now
- 27:17Speaker 1: from twenty twenty two. This is Kylie Ray Jebson and
- 27:21Speaker 1: talking to Yourself as Visible Cars klass Are Disco from
- 27:35Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. There Kylie Ray Jebson talking to yourself. Okay,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Race for Lifetime Now. It was a sunny but windy
- 27:46Speaker 1: morning on the Lees last Sunday, giving the event team
- 27:48Speaker 1: a bit of a problem putting up flags and banners
- 27:51Speaker 1: at Cancer Research UK's at Race for Life. Race director
- 27:55Speaker 1: Sarah Jane Winding kept a constant eye on things, but
- 27:58Speaker 1: her amazing team of volunteers did an awesome job. There
- 28:01Speaker 1: was a choice of a three K, a five K
- 28:04Speaker 1: or a ten K, and a thousand people took part.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I was on the mic acting as Race MC and
- 28:10Speaker 1: I was joined by warm up lady Joe Thompson. Now,
- 28:13Speaker 1: Joe and I have We've been attending this event since
- 28:15Speaker 1: the first one but we don't know how long ago
- 28:18Speaker 1: that was, So anybody out there it was at the
- 28:21Speaker 1: first Race for Life and knows what year it was,
- 28:24Speaker 1: please let us know. We think it was about twenty
- 28:28Speaker 1: two thousand and two, so that makes it we've done
- 28:31Speaker 1: twenty three on the trot. Anyway, the event was buzzing
- 28:35Speaker 1: at the start and all the way through, with some
- 28:37Speaker 1: really nice, happy, smiley faces crossing the finish line. Now,
- 28:41Speaker 1: Race for Life is a day full of mixed emotions
- 28:43Speaker 1: that reminding of us of lost loved ones, but knowing
- 28:46Speaker 1: that we're all pulling together to eradicate this terrible disease.
- 28:50Speaker 1: The fundraising total on the day, and I do expect
- 28:52Speaker 1: you to go up, was a massive one hundred and
- 28:55Speaker 1: sixteen thousand pounds. Now, I bumped into loads and loads
- 28:59Speaker 1: of friends that I've made over the years at Race
- 29:01Speaker 1: for Life, and there's too many to mention, I'm afraid,
- 29:04Speaker 1: but I must give a shout out to Rick. He
- 29:06Speaker 1: was the lead bike for.
- 29:07Speaker 2: The ten k.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Now the ten k he had to go up and
- 29:11Speaker 1: down the zigzag path with his bike and so that
- 29:14Speaker 1: was a bit of a tough task in itself, and
- 29:16Speaker 1: a big thanks to Adam and Jeff who stepped in
- 29:19Speaker 1: at the last minute to lead the three Ks and
- 29:22Speaker 1: the five Kas. Now, an awful, awful lot of work
- 29:26Speaker 1: goes on behind the scenes of every Race for Life
- 29:29Speaker 1: to make it a slick operation. And I think on
- 29:32Speaker 1: the day, you know, volunteers, marshals, runners, joggers, walkers plus
- 29:37Speaker 1: of course spectators all had a fantastic morning. Now on
- 29:41Speaker 1: the line, I was calling runners in on the line
- 29:44Speaker 1: and it was good actually because the runners, most of
- 29:46Speaker 1: the runners do have their Christian name or their team name,
- 29:49Speaker 1: you know, and like Slimming World team from there. Tesco
- 29:55Speaker 1: Express had a team, Greene's Army were out there. But
- 30:00Speaker 1: but I was attacked on the line. This is outrageous.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I was attacked on the line by the pink blow
- 30:05Speaker 1: up Flamingo ridden by Sarah Vince. Now, Sarah Vince is
- 30:09Speaker 1: an amazing supporter. She's been going to Race for Life
- 30:12Speaker 1: for years and years and years. So for you, Sarah,
- 30:14Speaker 1: there's only one song to play, of course, and this
- 30:18Speaker 1: is Man from Man. This is for you, Sarah. Pretty Flamingo, Well,
- 30:41Speaker 1: pretty Flamingo they are now, Sarah, could you keep your
- 30:44Speaker 1: flamingo under control next year? If you're at race for
- 30:47Speaker 1: life and you need to took my eye out honestly.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Park Run with both a senior and junior park runs
- 30:53Speaker 1: canceled at the weekend. The seniors were heading out to
- 30:56Speaker 1: various locations to get there. Saturday morning park Run Fix
- 31:00Speaker 1: athletes headed off to the more local ones such as
- 31:03Speaker 1: Oh by the Way. There was no Dover park Run either,
- 31:05Speaker 1: so there was tourists for flying out everywhere. Athletes headed
- 31:08Speaker 1: off to Ashford Pegwell Bay Dealer Warmer, then further afield
- 31:13Speaker 1: to Tunbridge Moat Park, Croydon Wakehurst which is in West Sussex,
- 31:18Speaker 1: Battersea Park, Fullbourne Hospital which is in Cambridge. And listen
- 31:22Speaker 1: to this one. Julia Henwood must have been on holiday
- 31:25Speaker 1: she found a park run vingus in Lithuania. Of all blazes.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Now going to leave you with a park run question.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Which park run actually crosses a border from one country
- 31:36Speaker 1: into another? Now there's no prizes, Just have a little
- 31:39Speaker 1: think about it and in the meantime we're going to
- 31:41Speaker 1: play a little bit of a park run. Theme of
- 31:43Speaker 1: this is blur and park life, but there's park life.
- 32:00Speaker 1: It's for a new park life. All new park runners
- 32:03Speaker 1: out there. Okay, Now, so which park run crosses the
- 32:08Speaker 1: border from one country to another. Well local runners Andy
- 32:12Speaker 1: Noble and Leslie Clancy who run this one at the weekend.
- 32:15Speaker 1: And the answer is the seven Bridge park Run which
- 32:18Speaker 1: starts in Wales. It crosses the bridge into England then
- 32:21Speaker 1: back into Wales.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Did you know that?
- 32:24Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what. I didn't know that until
- 32:26Speaker 1: I looked it up because Andy and Leslie have been
- 32:29Speaker 1: running it and so that's really interesting and I saw
- 32:33Speaker 1: some pictures. It's like it's almost like the Dartford crossing
- 32:36Speaker 1: the bridge there, but it's got a pavement either side
- 32:39Speaker 1: of it so you can actually walk or cycle over it.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Very good right now. Many park runners decide to take
- 32:46Speaker 1: on the eight Z challenge of park runs, meaning they
- 32:49Speaker 1: find an event beginning with ZA with a right down
- 32:52Speaker 1: to Z. But one runner tried something different. Former guests
- 32:56Speaker 1: to the show, Amy Stimpson, decided to run the park
- 32:59Speaker 1: runs sing out her name. What a great idea and
- 33:02Speaker 1: this was the result. Amy was a for Ashford, m
- 33:07Speaker 1: for Margate. And there is a promenade called a park
- 33:10Speaker 1: run called Why Promenade which is in the Brecon Beacons
- 33:13Speaker 1: in Wales. So that was a nice little weekend away
- 33:16Speaker 1: then onto her surname Stimpson, starting with S for Sittingbourn,
- 33:21Speaker 1: T for the Lees. The Lees is Lwees, which is
- 33:25Speaker 1: on the Islish Sheppey. I's for Ifield Mill, pond which
- 33:29Speaker 1: is in Crawley, M for Maidstone, p for Pegwell Bay,
- 33:33Speaker 1: S is for sean Woods in gravesend O is for
- 33:36Speaker 1: Orbington and finally N for Newbury in Berkshire spell En Stimpson.
- 33:41Speaker 1: So that was Amy's alphabet, Amy's name, good job by
- 33:45Speaker 1: name wasn't like Willebanoski or something like that, and with
- 33:47Speaker 1: beer all day anyway. Now, Amy is a great driving
- 33:51Speaker 1: force behind the setting up of Dover Waterfront event which
- 33:54Speaker 1: celebrates their second birthday on the thirteenth of September. And Amy,
- 33:59Speaker 1: congratulations also reached a milestone of one hundred times as
- 34:02Speaker 1: a volunteer. So thank you for all that information, Amy,
- 34:05Speaker 1: and we do hope to have Amy back in the
- 34:07Speaker 1: studio for a chat before the second birthday because I'm
- 34:11Speaker 1: going to go over there and play a bit of
- 34:12Speaker 1: music and hopefully we get them more warmed up. Now
- 34:16Speaker 1: be a music time now again, and unfortunately it's another tribute.
- 34:20Speaker 1: News broke out yesterday of the death of one of
- 34:22Speaker 1: the Beach Boys original members, Brian Wilson. The Beach Boys
- 34:26Speaker 1: hit the headlines in the sixties with their distinctive, harmonic
- 34:30Speaker 1: California sound that immediately made you think of summer. So
- 34:34Speaker 1: our second tribute of the day, let's play Surfing USA,
- 34:37Speaker 1: which is a part of the Rock and Roll Hall
- 34:39Speaker 1: of Fame five hundred songs that shaped rock and roll.
- 34:44Speaker 1: So sit back and enjoy the Beach Boys. This was
- 34:47Speaker 1: their first number one hit, I think in the States.
- 34:50Speaker 1: It it didn't make number one in the UK. But
- 34:53Speaker 1: this just epitomizes the surfing sound, the California sound. When
- 34:58Speaker 1: we're growing up in the sixties, you know, we just
- 35:00Speaker 1: couldn't dream of being in California as permanent sunshine on
- 35:05Speaker 1: the sandy beach surfing. So this is for the memory
- 35:09Speaker 1: of rest in peace, Brian Wilson. They would go to
- 35:25Speaker 1: Surfing USA, the memory of the late Brian Wilson. That
- 35:31Speaker 1: sounds certainly changed everything back in the sixties and did
- 35:35Speaker 1: go onto the seventies and eighties right other I think
- 35:38Speaker 1: the nearest thing I got to that sort of sound
- 35:41Speaker 1: and beach related was I used to compare a run
- 35:45Speaker 1: called the Harbor wallbanger for thanit road runners, and this
- 35:49Speaker 1: was a race which was set up on the beach
- 35:51Speaker 1: and the idea was that you run from broad Stairs
- 35:54Speaker 1: Beach to Ramsgate Beach, then you banged on the wall
- 35:59Speaker 1: hence a wall banger, and then you ran back and
- 36:02Speaker 1: running on saying is the toughest thing you could ever do.
- 36:05Speaker 1: It really is. But on that day I purposely dug
- 36:08Speaker 1: out a load of Beach Boys tracks, summer tracks, you know,
