- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo, I'm Lucas, and joining me is the ever-curious Luna. Luna: And I'm Luna. We've got a good one today, I can feel it. Lucas: We're going back to a café, but this time, we're focusing on everyone's favorite drink. Luna: Let me guess... coffee? Lucas: Exactly. And honestly, if today's episode is worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to keep the show going, but we're not here to push that. Let's get into it. Luna: Yeah, but first, I need my caffeine fix. Lucas: Good thing we're teaching you how to order it. Let's start simple: Nataka kahawa. Luna: Nataka kahawa. That means 'I want coffee.' Lucas: Perfect. Nataka means 'I want', kahawa is 'coffee'. Try it again, slowly. Luna: Nataka kahawa. Lucas: You've got it. Now let's make it a bit more polite. Kahawa moja, tafadhali. Luna: Kahawa moja, tafadhali. So that's 'One coffee, please.' Lucas: Yes, moja means 'one', tafadhali means 'please'. Let's hear you say it. Luna: Kahawa moja, tafadhali. Lucas: Beautiful. Now let's say you want milk with it. Naweza kupata maziwa? Luna: Naweza kupata maziwa? That's 'Can I get milk?' Lucas: Right, Naweza means 'I can', kupata means 'to get', maziwa is 'milk'. Your turn. Luna: Naweza kupata maziwa? Lucas: Exactly. Now what about sugar? Nataka sukari. Luna: Nataka sukari. Simple enough. 'I want sugar.' Lucas: Yes. Sukari is a nice word, isn't it? Luna: It is. So if I'm at a café, I might say: Nataka kahawa, na sukari. Lucas: And if you're looking for the café itself, you'd ask: Kahawa iko wapi? Luna: Kahawa iko wapi? 'Where is the coffee?' Lucas: Or 'Where is the café?' Context helps. Let's do a quick scene. You walk into a café, what do you say? Luna: Kahawa moja, tafadhali. Lucas: Then the server asks if you want milk. Luna: Naweza kupata maziwa? Lucas: And sugar? Luna: Nataka sukari. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's review all five phrases quickly. First: Nataka kahawa. Luna: Nataka kahawa. Lucas: Kahawa moja, tafadhali. Luna: Kahawa moja, tafadhali. Lucas: Naweza kupata maziwa? Luna: Naweza kupata maziwa? Lucas: Nataka sukari. Luna: Nataka sukari. Lucas: And finally: Kahawa iko wapi? Luna: Kahawa iko wapi? Lucas: You did great. Remember, practice makes perfect. And if you enjoyed today's episode, a small coffee to the link we mentioned earlier would go a long way. Luna: But no pressure. We're just happy you're learning with us. Lucas: We'll be back with more Swahili soon. Until then, keep practicing.
