- 0:04Vipul Bindra: Welcome to another episode of Studio B Sessions.
- 0:07Vipul Bindra: Uh, I am Bendra, the owner of Bendra Productions here in Orlando, and we got Mario again on the producer table.
- 0:14Vipul Bindra: Say hi, Mario.
- 0:15Mario Rangel: Mario.
- 0:16Mario Rangel: Hey guys, how are you today?
- 0:17Mario Rangel: It's Ami, Mario.
- 0:19Vipul Bindra: And our guest today, favorite from season one, Sean is back.
- 0:24Vipul Bindra: What's up?
- 0:24Vipul Bindra: What's that?
- 0:25Vipul Bindra: Very good DP director.
- 0:27Vipul Bindra: Um, you know, killing it out there.
- 0:29Vipul Bindra: How's it going?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I'm just keep trying to kill it as much as possible.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm doing, man.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: One day at a time.
- 0:35Vipul Bindra: No, I had such a good time.
- 0:36Vipul Bindra: I think you were one of my favorite guests in season one.
- 0:38Vipul Bindra: So we wanted to do a lot of people.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Yo, they might be listening and be like, what are you doing?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: But I was.
- 0:45Vipul Bindra: No, but like uh, you know, the goal was um uh to bring, you know, a healthy mix of new guests, but then I wanted to bring some of my favorites.
- 0:53Vipul Bindra: And and uh when I when I was thinking about who to bring back, trust me, I didn't even have to think twice about bringing you because you were one of my favorite guests on season one, just because not only are you very talented, but you're also very funny as a former stand-up comedian.
- 1:07Vipul Bindra: Ah, yeah, former, former.
- 1:08Vipul Bindra: Former, former.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I still stand up every now and then.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so no, not former.
- 1:15Vipul Bindra: Maybe part-time.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Part-time, part-time.
- 1:18Vipul Bindra: So, so you know, it's just fun.
- 1:19Vipul Bindra: So, what's been going on?
- 1:20Vipul Bindra: So, last we saw you was almost what, six, seven months ago.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I was in January of this year, right?
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, the biggest thing, I've just been, I guess, I'm not gonna say upgrading my clientele, but different types of clients have been coming in lately.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So um recently I was filming for a like a private chef company that does food for private jets and stuff like that.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, got a cool commercial project coming up, a lot more traveling, you know.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: But it's always like it's the same thing, just an evolved version of it.
- 1:51Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you know?
- 1:52Vipul Bindra: So how did you so let's see what you do different?
- 1:55Vipul Bindra: Because last I know you had started, right?
- 1:58Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:59Vipul Bindra: And you had gone to the six figures that everyone does.
- 2:02Vipul Bindra: So you were already there.
- 2:03Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 2:03Vipul Bindra: But in the last, you know, six-ish months, what have you done to be able to upgrade your clientele?
- 2:08Vipul Bindra: Anything particular that you did?
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Nah, I think the biggest thing for me is uh momentum.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: You know, so like when I hit the six figures last year, I was like, okay, this is crazy.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Just keep doing the same thing, and of of eventually it'll get it'll grow to, you know, maybe 200,000, 300,000.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Um, and the cool thing is, actually, right now, as of six months, I'm at I'm already at like 150.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: So I'm hoping by the end of the year I can hit like three to 250 three.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: That would be a good trend, yeah.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: You know, you know what I mean?
- 2:43Vipul Bindra: And things tend to go better during the summer.
- 2:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And as you know, and any other videographers listening, like you you already have you built up, let's say, let's say you only made 80,000, but you have all those clients from that year.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: If you did a good job, they're gonna reach out to you next year.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And if their friends reach out to them, hey, I need video, they're gonna reach out to you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So I think it's it's just natural that you'll keep making more and building more clientele.
- 3:05Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 3:06Vipul Bindra: So that is the smart move.
- 3:08Vipul Bindra: And then and a lot of things, the best thing I like about it is the longer you do, the better work you do, right, the more clientele you have.
- 3:14Vipul Bindra: That's more people to just dial your phone or email, and the more people who can call you for a giveaway.
- 3:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 3:21Vipul Bindra: And at the end of the day, that eventually you just don't even have to look for work coming in, right?
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: And I I will say too, another thing, something I did change, I did um change my rates slightly.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: So, like, I I'm me personally, I don't like to just up my rate for no reason.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: I like to do something to up my rate, you know.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: So, as you know, I just bought some lenses, you know, first cinema set of lenses.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, that now that that's an option of what I can provide, my rate has to go up.
- 3:47Vipul Bindra: Makes sense, you know what I mean.
- 3:48Vipul Bindra: So, and and if anyone wants to check out, we did do a video comparing the because funny enough, both at the same time you bought the R.
- 3:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:55Vipul Bindra: I think it was like a day apart.
- 3:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:57Vipul Bindra: I'm like, I had a project that needed them.
- 3:59Vipul Bindra: You uh you went to NAB, I think, and you saw the new Luster version.
- 4:03Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 4:04Vipul Bindra: And uh and funny enough, I don't think that many people have it.
- 4:07Vipul Bindra: I know the Vespids are very popular, right?
- 4:09Vipul Bindra: But not that many people have the R.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: There's only like one other person in Central Florida that has your set.
- 4:15Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 4:15Vipul Bindra: And and I don't think anyone else has uh the Lusters.
- 4:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:19Vipul Bindra: So I think it's incredible.
- 4:22Vipul Bindra: So but but uh funny enough, uh, and and I will go back to that because I want to talk more about Chinese lenses, but um but yes, so you've been you know you've been upping your game, you've been adding to the to the thing.
- 4:34Vipul Bindra: So what what have you been able to change your rates?
- 4:36Vipul Bindra: So going back to it, yeah, what they were, yeah, let's say the end of the year to where they are now, right?
- 4:41Vipul Bindra: And how are you justifying it to a client, let's say that's repeat because new, I think it's easier, right?
- 4:46Vipul Bindra: Yes, easier with new, yeah, yeah.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Um, well, because for my race, it's always like a range.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: So before I was like anywhere from like a thousand to fifteen hundred.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Um, now I'm trying to stay within like eighteen hundred to like twenty-five per day.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Um, and that's if I'm just bringing like camera and minimal gear.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think the biggest way I justify, I just kind of just show it's the quality of the work.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: So a lot of my old clients, I'll like say, hey, this is a cool project I've been working on, you know, or I just tested out my new lenses on this project.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: So I kind of just keep them in the loop with other client work that I'm doing, and then they're like, Oh, okay, cool, that's awesome.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: So when I slap that bill on your invoice, you you won't be surprised.
- 5:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:25Vipul Bindra: So it's mostly your experience, right?
- 5:27Vipul Bindra: That you're adding.
- 5:28Vipul Bindra: Obviously, you added cinema lens.
- 5:30Vipul Bindra: Is there anything else you added?
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Um, nah, that's it.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: That's the biggest thing.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I've I'm like, my FX6 is the job there, as you know, as you know.
- 5:36Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it works.
- 5:37Vipul Bindra: Funny enough, we just did a project in Chicago and Mari was there.
- 5:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 5:41Vipul Bindra: Uh our our our whole kit was, I think, three FX6s, FX3, and the main A cam was a Burano.
- 5:48Vipul Bindra: And I'm still interested, but that like as soon as we turned them on, yeah.
- 5:52Vipul Bindra: Dude, I was surprised.
- 5:53Vipul Bindra: I was just like, Yeah, you know, an impressed is the word.
- 5:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 5:56Vipul Bindra: And I was impressed with 8K and all that, but I was just like, FX6 was looking about the same.
- 6:03Vipul Bindra: Really?
- 6:03Vipul Bindra: And I was like, this is crazy.
- 6:05Vipul Bindra: So it's basically to me, the image looked now.
- 6:08Vipul Bindra: Obviously, we weren't testing it, we weren't out of the colour.
- 6:10Vipul Bindra: Of course, of course.
- 6:10Vipul Bindra: It looked dynamically live in the moment.
- 6:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, live in a in a in a inside environment, at least, there was not that much difference, other than just a high resolution.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Because the the Burano just has like stabilization.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Is that like the biggest difference?
- 6:23Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I mean, no, it's also supposed to be closer to the Venice 2, yeah, 8K, but supposed to have a better sensor, better, you know, every built-in, you know, uh V mounts like NDV and all that.
- 6:35Vipul Bindra: So it's supposed to be a better uh another Cinealta camera, like right?
- 6:40Vipul Bindra: That's the the way that they're describing it.
- 6:43Vipul Bindra: Uh, somewhere in between that that FX9 that is and the Venice 2.
- 6:47Vipul Bindra: Okay, that makes sense.
- 6:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but it didn't feel like that.
- 6:50Vipul Bindra: Uh like I said, I I was highly, let's say I was highly interested in picking one up right away.
- 6:56Vipul Bindra: And uh, and so the the cameras I was eyeing were Barano to add is the ACAM, like you said, trying to up it to to where having that middle tier.
- 7:05Vipul Bindra: Currently, I don't have it.
- 7:06Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 7:07Vipul Bindra: So, which is Tucky coming out of the R is why I added them.
- 7:10Vipul Bindra: Basically, uh the way it works with me, at least, is agencies approach.
- 7:14Vipul Bindra: And if they're high-end agencies, I already know what the rental costs on a R is or signature primes or whatever lenses we're using, cook lenses.
- 7:21Vipul Bindra: So it's very easy.
- 7:22Vipul Bindra: They're you know, you just fill them the rental, right?
- 7:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, here you go.
- 7:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:26Vipul Bindra: So so so so you don't need to own that type of stuff, but then the most of the local or l or I even say low corporate clients, they don't care either what you're using, or if they do, it's usually FX6s, FXCs, they're in that lower tier, right?
- 7:39Vipul Bindra: Which is fine, which we can service ourselves, yeah, pull in that rental revenue ourselves, but there's no middle tier.
- 7:45Vipul Bindra: If somebody's like, hey, I don't have the RA budget, but I want to do something better than the FX sixes.
- 7:50Vipul Bindra: That's where I thought the Burano's.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Hey, but is that middle when it's like$25,000?
- 7:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but it's not hundred thousand for an LF.
- 7:59Vipul Bindra: I mean maybe sixty nowadays you can buy a useful one.
- 8:01Vipul Bindra: I guess you're right.
- 8:02Vipul Bindra: But but also the the codex, you know, it's easier to work with.
- 8:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:10Vipul Bindra: Around the camera to make it work.
- 8:12Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 8:13Vipul Bindra: So, anyway, at least that was the thought process that I can add a Burano, have a metal camera, and add coming now, coming back to the Chinese lenses part.
- 8:21Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 8:21Vipul Bindra: Basically, I was always against all these Chinese companies popping up, but the truth is it cannot be ignored.
- 8:27Vipul Bindra: They are killing it.
- 8:28Vipul Bindra: They're crashing.
- 8:29Vipul Bindra: Even though I uh again, I don't know the length.
- 8:31Vipul Bindra: Like, you know, the thing about cook lenses is that, for example, they're very expensive, right?
- 8:35Vipul Bindra: Like your resale is gonna be there.
- 8:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's not like uh, you know, the glass is just gonna decrease in value or whatever.
- 8:43Vipul Bindra: As long as you take care of it, you can keep making rental money, uh, it holds its value, there's a certain look that people want.
- 8:49Vipul Bindra: My whole thing with these these Chinese companies was they a that's with I think any industry, every year they're coming out to three sets of lenses, they're upping their game, so you know that the set A, your the value is not held, the demand isn't there for rental.
- 9:03Vipul Bindra: So I never wanted to invest in.
- 9:04Vipul Bindra: Not that I'd never use it, like I used the Pictors a while back, like I'm talking five, six, whenever they came out on a project, we rented them, but they weren't like an investment great product to me.
- 9:14Vipul Bindra: But I finally, after I looked at the I was like, this, you know, for the price.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for the price, I think for the price, especially, yeah.
- 9:21Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 9:21Vipul Bindra: And I was like, this this is not so originally we were gonna rent them, right?
- 9:25Vipul Bindra: For this project.
- 9:26Vipul Bindra: I had like you said, the one person who has them, yeah.
- 9:29Vipul Bindra: Uh is where who I was thinking about renting them from.
- 9:31Vipul Bindra: But then I was like, you know what?
- 9:32Vipul Bindra: It makes just sense to just acquire them.
- 9:36Vipul Bindra: Just get them.
- 9:36Vipul Bindra: Uh uh, because uh I saw that middle tier that I can fulfill.
- 9:41Vipul Bindra: So as in that's where they are.
- 9:42Vipul Bindra: Now it's like, hey, corporate shoot, G Masters, right?
- 9:46Vipul Bindra: Slightly bigger.
- 9:47Vipul Bindra: Now we can bring the RL, and we have the rental market of cooks and signature brands and whatever lenses on Jinu.
- 9:54Vipul Bindra: What are we gonna use on that higher tier market?
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I I think in my opinion, when it comes to like I was like, I could buy a new camera, I have the FX6, I could go to red, I could black magic, whatever.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: But I was like, or I could just level up my camera already have, and I got the R's, and I'm like, dude, this it's a different.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: You can tell immediately, as soon as you look at the monitor, it's like, oh, that's a big difference.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Exactly, right?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I'm like, okay, now I got a 10% bug.
- 10:18Vipul Bindra: Huge upgrade.
- 10:18Vipul Bindra: Every single person on set, Mario.
- 10:20Vipul Bindra: What do you think about the lenses?
- 10:22Mario Rangel: They were great.
- 10:24Mario Rangel: They were like, like everybody said, Netflix quality.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And that's on the FX6.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Are you sure it wasn't the lighting?
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, the lighting helps, it definitely helps.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: The lighting helps.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, yeah, they they're some they're sweet, man.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: And and that's that's the thing you have to do.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: It's either you can pay$25,000 for a new camera, or but the lenses, I get I guess if you got the 10 lens kit, it's about the same price.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: You know, but that's 10 lenses.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Because if you bought the$25,000 camera, you still don't have the lenses.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna shoot photoglasses on a Burano?
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Which you can.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: You can.
- 10:56Vipul Bindra: You can but you're right, absolutely.
- 10:58Vipul Bindra: And then lenses is a typically again, I don't know the longer how long these will last.
- 11:05Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 11:05Vipul Bindra: Because they are again Chinese lenses.
- 11:07Vipul Bindra: Yeah, these companies are known to every two years throw a new set out.
- 11:10Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 11:11Vipul Bindra: But it is a good investment because they are uh like I said, for the money, they are they're really good.
- 11:17Vipul Bindra: This is the way I would describe it, all right, like I did in the video.
- 11:21Vipul Bindra: I think, and again, I could be wrong, but this is just what my thought process is.
- 11:25Vipul Bindra: Literally, the the DZU engineers in China went, okay, let's order a signature prime from RA, let's order a cook, uh, you know, as for and then they basically put their engineers in a room said, give us a combination of that.
- 11:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:40Vipul Bindra: Because if you feel it, uh, you know, it literally feels, I'm not even joking, in the hand, it feels like um um like a very heavy signature prime.
- 11:48Vipul Bindra: So it's not as lightweight as it's but the feeling that you get in your hand, the build and everything is very similar.
- 11:54Vipul Bindra: And then the colors that they're using, and then the look is warmer, very much like a cook look.
- 11:59Vipul Bindra: Uh not exactly the same, but very close.
- 12:01Vipul Bindra: Like so, I felt like it was giving me a combination of both, and which is a good look.
- 12:06Vipul Bindra: It's very good look.
- 12:06Vipul Bindra: It's a nice.
- 12:08Vipul Bindra: I think they're a very good investment, they're very beautiful lenses for the price I paid them.
- 12:12Vipul Bindra: And uh, like you said, it just is another tool in the bucket.
- 12:16Vipul Bindra: I don't think it changes anything, but it's a little option, you know.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: So when you're like when you're working with your clients, let's say um the job requires a cinema lens kit and you already have one now.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Um, are you adding that on as an add-on to like your invoice or in the negotiation?
- 12:34Vipul Bindra: If I'm billing Sean, then I'm adding it because it makes sense to justify it.
- 12:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:37Vipul Bindra: I don't know, it's hard, it's gonna be hard to tell Sean that hey, I'm just gonna charge, like you said, yeah, instead of 22,500 in the shoe.
- 12:44Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 12:44Vipul Bindra: And you're like, Right, because you you understand the lingo.
- 12:48Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 12:48Vipul Bindra: Where's this coming from?
- 12:49Vipul Bindra: They're like, hey, we're gonna use this set of lenses, there's the extra cost coming from, makes absolute sense.
- 12:54Vipul Bindra: But typical client that we talked about, my entire process has been that I've dialed it down now, it's just give them one price.
- 13:01Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 13:02Vipul Bindra: And and and there's obviously ways to many different ways that we discussed last season.
- 13:07Vipul Bindra: But main thing is uh it works for me.
- 13:09Vipul Bindra: And I find that gives me as a producer, now this is not as a director DP, I don't care what pre-production costs, post-production costs, right?
- 13:16Vipul Bindra: As long as you have the budget.
- 13:17Vipul Bindra: But as a producer, it's very important to have flexibility.
- 13:21Vipul Bindra: What I find with my corporate clients, when I tell them, let's say this is gonna be$5,000, right?
- 13:25Vipul Bindra: It's gonna be a$10,000 shoot.
- 13:27Vipul Bindra: It's very easy then for me to go, hey, this project we need the Cinnet lenses.
- 13:31Vipul Bindra: Let's put some of the allocate the budget here.
- 13:34Vipul Bindra: Or hey, you know what?
- 13:34Vipul Bindra: I can I can use two extra people on set.
- 13:36Vipul Bindra: Let me see if who I can get else on the screen.
- 13:39Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 13:40Vipul Bindra: I have the freedom, but if I go in the the project and already coat, like we're gonna have three crew, this lenses, or this now, my freedom is gone.
- 13:47Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 13:47Vipul Bindra: Because I gotta provide that.
- 13:48Vipul Bindra: Now it's gonna be hard.
- 13:50Vipul Bindra: Technically, contractually speaking, I can't change my now.
- 13:54Vipul Bindra: It's different as a DP because I'm just being brought in as a role.
- 13:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I can fulfill that role, and then there is I don't mind like hey, here's the DP rate, here's the equipment rate, or whatever.
- 14:04Vipul Bindra: And it's very common to do that anyway.
- 14:05Vipul Bindra: Right, right, right.
- 14:06Vipul Bindra: Uh so so it really depends on who the client is.
- 14:10Vipul Bindra: Who you're working with.
- 14:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, okay.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, kind of something I've been adding on.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm like, oh, now that I have them, I'm like, yeah, if you want my cinema lens, I have photo lenses, but if you want the quality that you saw in that video, exactly, it's an optional upgrade upgrade, right?
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Recommended and depends on the project too.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Highly recommend it.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 14:26Vipul Bindra: If it's like a corporate project, I'm sure it's not necessary.
- 14:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, like a corporate event or something like that.
- 14:31Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you're not you don't need artists.
- 14:33Vipul Bindra: But if but if there's a project like like you said, you're doing a documentary or something, or even high-end corporate interview where you're like, oh, right, this lens isn't is is adds the value, right?
- 14:43Vipul Bindra: That's where you go, hey, this is gonna add.
- 14:45Vipul Bindra: Do you like Netflix?
- 14:47Vipul Bindra: Then you'll like these.
- 14:48Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 14:48Vipul Bindra: There you go.
- 14:50Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I wonder how many Netflix DPs are gonna have.
- 14:52Vipul Bindra: Yeah, like uh no.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Yo, so have you uh have you been playing with any like AI stuff?
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: I think since the last I talked, there's been a little bit, but like now it's like AI is AI is everything.
- 15:04Vipul Bindra: No, we're integrating AI into everything.
- 15:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, Mario wants to use two AI to edit this uh podcast.
- 15:10Vipul Bindra: Oh really?
- 15:10Vipul Bindra: Okay, I feel like the real time cutting that he's doing is more cool, right?
- 15:15Vipul Bindra: But uh but AI, no, I I can't live my life without AI anymore.
- 15:19Vipul Bindra: Already, right?
- 15:19Vipul Bindra: But something going back to simple what did exist six months ago, yes.
- 15:23Vipul Bindra: But no, because here's the thing.
- 15:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, at least for me, now I can't speak for everyone, I am authentic because if I write an email, I wrote the email.
- 15:32Vipul Bindra: Now I may go to Chat GP and say, make it look better, make it look better, fix my you know, errors or whatever, polish it.
- 15:39Vipul Bindra: But it's not like I'm saying words that didn't come out, I'm not telling it to just write from straight personally.
- 15:45Vipul Bindra: And it's it's speeding up my proposals, it's speeding up my email responses, it's helping me sometimes gather thoughts like hey, this meeting happened, here's some meeting notes and parse out valuable information, stuff like that, right?
- 15:59Vipul Bindra: Where it can come in very handy.
- 16:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah, now is it going to replace uh you know 100% of everything yet?
- 16:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, no, but there's some amazing tools, 11 Labs.
- 16:09Vipul Bindra: We've been using AI websovers a lot from Artlist.
- 16:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so there's a lot of cool tools out there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:16Vipul Bindra: But nothing I think replaces me yet.
- 16:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 16:20Vipul Bindra: And the day that happens, we're fine.
- 16:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 16:23Vipul Bindra: You know, I'll I'll become an AI company.
- 16:25Vipul Bindra: I guess we we operate the AI for a client, but right now it's not there yet, but it is a tool.
- 16:29Vipul Bindra: So I think whoever is not gonna use is gonna be left behind.
- 16:32Vipul Bindra: What do you think?
- 16:32Vipul Bindra: Which what have been you'd using?
- 16:34Vipul Bindra: Any cool AI?
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Um so I I've 11 Labs, same, all the artless AI, uh Google, VO3, all those.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Um I've been using those on a few client projects too.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Um, I think I when it comes to AI, my opinion is you have I guess you have the good and the bad.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: The good side is it lowers the barrier of entry for uh for upcoming videographers and stuff.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So it's like before you had to pay for somebody to create your shot list or to create your storyboard.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Um, you had to pay for somebody to narrate the video, you know, all this type of stuff to create like, oh, I didn't get that drone shot.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like I gotta find somebody to get that drone shot in New York or pay story blocks to get it.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: So it's like now I can just pay$10 a month and like I have access to what these people in the uh higher-ups and industry had access to.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: That's a good thing.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I think the downside is people might be relying on it too much, you know.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Like even for like an email, like I wrote an email the other day.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, I'm gonna try to write one without AI.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I've been writing it with AI for the last year.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: I was like, I mean, just write an email without AI.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: And I wrote it, I'm like, this sucks.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Exactly, right?
- 17:38Vipul Bindra: You know what I mean?
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: I'm like, but I used to write emails all the time before AI.
- 17:41Vipul Bindra: But what's crazy to me is thinking six months later, is it gonna be just AI talking to AI?
- 17:45Vipul Bindra: I send you an AI email.
- 17:46Vipul Bindra: That's what I think so.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Email response back, then my rises it, you know, like, hey, what do you want to say?
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Like, say something, I don't care.
- 17:52Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:53Vipul Bindra: It's gonna be crazy.
- 17:54Vipul Bindra: I think it's a dystopia.
- 17:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 17:56Vipul Bindra: Uh I uh I again I I can't predict the future.
- 17:58Vipul Bindra: Right, for sure, of course.
- 17:59Vipul Bindra: I think AI is here to stay.
- 18:01Vipul Bindra: Yeah, definitely.
- 18:02Vipul Bindra: At least in our industry, just need to adapt.
- 18:05Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 18:05Vipul Bindra: We have always been adapt or die, uh, the fast moving industry anyway.
- 18:11Vipul Bindra: Because, you know, for example, just look at what happened to lighting.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:15Vipul Bindra: For 20, 30 years, if 100 years actually, it was just all that hot light.
- 18:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that happened.
- 18:19Vipul Bindra: And then LEDs came immediately, and first you were like, oh, they're interesting.
- 18:23Vipul Bindra: Interesting, cool, but they're not high quality.
- 18:25Vipul Bindra: And look now, like, I don't own a single hot light, and I don't know that many people don't own a single hotlight.
- 18:30Vipul Bindra: I was at uh full sale filming the last three days, which is a school here locally, right?
- 18:34Vipul Bindra: Trains so many filmmakers.
- 18:36Vipul Bindra: Guess what I saw?
- 18:38Vipul Bindra: Everything aperture, everything aperture, not a single, not even a NAN Light, not even another LED brand.
- 18:44Vipul Bindra: And it's slow.
- 18:46Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:47Vipul Bindra: For them to have everything aperture, I was like, this is what the next generation of students is gonna learn on.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: So they don't even know what a highlight is, they don't know anything, you know.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: So speaking of, I know earlier we're talking about Chinese companies.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Um is Aperture Chinese or American?
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, Chinese, yeah, yeah.
- 19:05Vipul Bindra: They're all that's why they're they they come so fast.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so like uh when I went to NAB, there's a lot all the companies had their version of the aperture lights on the 1200, 600, all that stuff.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: And I will say, because aperture is the most pricey one, the competitors are coming in hot.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and the pricing is 10 times better.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: And the quality is just as because with a once they got now that they got the science behind the light down, it's like yeah, the price doesn't really make sense for aperture right now, I think.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 19:34Vipul Bindra: But see, it depends on becoming the industry standard or not.
- 19:37Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 19:38Vipul Bindra: Here's the thing um the way I look at it is it's kind of like cook lenses, right?
- 19:42Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 19:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:43Vipul Bindra: There's a reason people ask for cook, right?
- 19:48Vipul Bindra: Does that mean there's not been innovation?
- 19:50Vipul Bindra: No, right.
- 19:50Vipul Bindra: Because look at our DZO lenses simple as that, because these companies have been able to come in, they have no legacy to maintain, they have no rules.
- 19:58Vipul Bindra: Like I said, they don't care that they just Release ours.
- 20:01Vipul Bindra: Oh, let's coat them differently.
- 20:02Vipul Bindra: Let's tell them it's luster.
- 20:03Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 20:04Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 20:04Vipul Bindra: They have nothing to protect, which is which can be bad as you investing into something.
- 20:09Vipul Bindra: It's a risk.
- 20:10Vipul Bindra: But as the as a brand goes, they can move so fast.
- 20:13Vipul Bindra: Just like Aperture came in.
- 20:14Vipul Bindra: They were like, oh, here's a monitor we sell.
- 20:16Vipul Bindra: Here's a microphone we sell.
- 20:17Vipul Bindra: Then there's a light we sell.
- 20:19Vipul Bindra: Then they realize, oh, LED's moving faster than they.
- 20:22Vipul Bindra: So we're gonna stick with that.
- 20:23Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 20:23Vipul Bindra: And then they you a lot of people don't even remember what they were selling when they launched.
- 20:27Vipul Bindra: They weren't just a light.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: How much is the Aperture 6 uh uh 1200?
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: X is 2990.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: 2990?
- 20:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so$3,000, but then you need the the Fresnel, you need the barn doors, right?
- 20:38Vipul Bindra: So you need to add a lot of things.
- 20:39Vipul Bindra: It's probably like closer to 4,000 after everything.
- 20:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: When we're at NAB, um newer, you know, newer, everybody, everybody, newer was like bottom of the barrel, worse of the worst back in the day.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Aren't they still but they have come up, yes?
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: They come up, yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Like I got a newer 600-watt light, and it's just like the Aperture 600, same look, same style, same power output.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I think it's a little bit more.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: You know, and it's we gotta pull up the price.
- 21:03Vipul Bindra: I've got a color meter.
- 21:04Vipul Bindra: Okay, we can see actually what's coming out of it.
- 21:07Vipul Bindra: Yeah, my clients can't tell though.
- 21:09Vipul Bindra: See, and that that I totally agree with what you're saying.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: See, the thing is you wouldn't use it for like a big commercial, like a big, big hundred thousand dollar budget commercial.
- 21:18Vipul Bindra: Lighting is having the same thing, it's just yeah, uh what happened to lenses.
- 21:22Vipul Bindra: You know, five years ago, ten years ago, how many choices did you have?
- 21:26Vipul Bindra: Not that many.
- 21:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah, not many.
- 21:27Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you you had this the traditional uh companies, and I don't think this replaces them.
- 21:32Vipul Bindra: Nah, of course not.
- 21:32Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but this has brought us options, like I said, we can offer a low tier, we can offer because these are not the only lenses, they have vest bits, you know, they have zooms that are cheaper.
- 21:41Vipul Bindra: So you have a class of product that now you can offer that wasn't there, right?
- 21:46Vipul Bindra: And they are getting very close.
- 21:47Vipul Bindra: They're getting close, 90-95% for a lot like a quarter of the price.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and like the yeah, the the newer light that I saw NAB, so it's just like 1200, aperture 1200, but this one's fully waterproof, like they had it running under yeah, it was under a fountain of water, and the water's just draining on it for hours.
- 22:05Vipul Bindra: I think you can do that on the 1200 X.
- 22:06Vipul Bindra: 1200 too?
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this is the same fully waterproof, same power output, but I think they're selling it for a thousand dollars.
- 22:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, which is really, really amazing.
- 22:15Vipul Bindra: But here, and and I think that's renaissance has happened in lighting too.
- 22:18Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 22:19Vipul Bindra: I don't think again, I think it slowed down a little bit.
- 22:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:21Vipul Bindra: Because I think the biggest thing was first getting the brightness, yeah, the brightness.
- 22:24Vipul Bindra: Now that the we're past the brightness barrier, positive quality, which RGB ACL, which Aperture calls Blair, has figured that out.
- 22:32Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I think these brands are not that far, so they're still on LED, I believe, uh newer and stuff.
- 22:37Vipul Bindra: But yeah, a year, give it them a year.
- 22:39Vipul Bindra: They'll have RGB ACL lights, and then the accessibility becomes for everyone, right?
- 22:45Vipul Bindra: Everybody, yeah.
- 22:45Vipul Bindra: I don't think they replace it because here's what happened with Aperture.
- 22:49Vipul Bindra: They became an industry standard for LED.
- 22:52Vipul Bindra: Them and maybe Nan Lite or Nan Lux rather have become accepted.
- 22:56Vipul Bindra: What do you see?
- 22:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's it's really hard to get into Hollywood, is what I'm saying.
- 23:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah, not that it matters for us, but what I'm saying is they have been able to get past and they're actually being used on film sets, they're actually being put on a condor up in the air, like they are out there, they're being used.
- 23:12Vipul Bindra: So now it's no longer considered like five years ago, you were the the like the DZO of lighting, right?
- 23:18Vipul Bindra: If you were using aperture, you were like using something new, unique in what are you doing?
- 23:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:23Vipul Bindra: You wouldn't find it on that many Hollywood sets now.
- 23:25Vipul Bindra: If you if I showed up with my van, it absolutely nobody would blink an eye.
- 23:30Vipul Bindra: They'll be like, Oh, yeah, yeah, cool, yeah, we know that lighting has put the hair put a 12 or an X hair.
- 23:33Vipul Bindra: You know what I mean?
- 23:34Vipul Bindra: Like it's it's accepted.
- 23:35Vipul Bindra: Will newer be that way?
- 23:36Vipul Bindra: No, no, but give it three years, who knows?
- 23:38Vipul Bindra: Who knows?
- 23:39Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 23:42Vipul Bindra: It's it's moving fast, and which is why being a videographer is very easy now, but I think also very hard to be a filmmaker.
- 23:49Vipul Bindra: Right, right.
- 23:50Vipul Bindra: Because you're spoiled for choices, right?
- 23:52Vipul Bindra: And the way I look at it is there's two ways to look at it.
- 23:54Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, I want to make film a stand-up comedy, or I want to make short films here, or now for some corporate package.
- 24:00Vipul Bindra: It's fine.
- 24:01Vipul Bindra: Go whatever camera you want, quite literally whatever camera, a couple of lights, a couple of good mics, right?
- 24:08Vipul Bindra: You're done.
- 24:09Vipul Bindra: It you're spoiled for choice.
- 24:10Vipul Bindra: It doesn't even matter you pick a new or new one, it'll be good enough.
- 24:13Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 24:14Vipul Bindra: But the the problem happens is now you're like, I want to now go in bigger stats, or I want to work on something bigger.
- 24:20Vipul Bindra: Now it becomes harder because you have to buy again standard stuff.
- 24:25Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 24:25Vipul Bindra: But when standards are changing so fast, it's very hard to invest in equipment.
- 24:30Vipul Bindra: Because right now, let's say FX6s are the standard, right?
- 24:33Vipul Bindra: I find in corporate commercial, mid-tier work and lower quite literally the standard.
- 24:38Vipul Bindra: They're even making movies on FX6 now.
- 24:40Vipul Bindra: So but those are the cameras that have like penetrated the market.
- 24:44Vipul Bindra: But what stops Sony from coming out the next one?
- 24:46Vipul Bindra: They're four or five-year-old cameras, right?
- 24:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, could you do that?
- 24:49Vipul Bindra: And then you invested in FX6.
- 24:52Vipul Bindra: Today you could you have high resale on your camera, me too.
- 24:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 24:55Vipul Bindra: Good investments, but as soon as the next one comes out, you know, will it hold the value?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: I think I I I hear what you're saying, but I feel like for a lot of people, the the biggest issue is people who don't invest at all.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: You know, because like I know I think they're smarter.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: You think so?
- 25:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, because right now, look, okay, here's the way I look at it.
- 25:15Vipul Bindra: You go to a client, and again, there's different ways to do it.
- 25:17Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 25:18Vipul Bindra: There's no right or wrong.
- 25:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 25:19Vipul Bindra: But nothing stops you from finding the company.
- 25:21Vipul Bindra: Let's say you're actually talented and creative.
- 25:24Vipul Bindra: Go to the client.
- 25:25Vipul Bindra: Uh, let's talk about corporate filmmaking, right?
- 25:27Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, your website's old school, your photography is like trash.
- 25:32Vipul Bindra: How about we come in, we replace with high-end photos, we get you a new website, we get your all video content, we make a plan for social media, right?
- 25:39Vipul Bindra: The whole shebang.
- 25:40Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 25:41Vipul Bindra: You come in, you bring you a Sean in to do the video part, we bring a photographer to update the photos.
- 25:46Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 25:46Vipul Bindra: And sometimes you can even do both.
- 25:48Vipul Bindra: Uh, you know, if you want to take on both sides of it, but one thing, yes, and then you hire a website designer.
- 25:53Vipul Bindra: There you make majority of the profit, and not saying Sean, you wouldn't make money, right?
- 25:58Vipul Bindra: You'll take your let's say two grand or 2500 rate that you want to.
- 26:01Vipul Bindra: The photographer will take their thousand dollars, let's say they want to.
- 26:04Vipul Bindra: Uh, but but point is you the person who's making most of the money, right?
- 26:09Vipul Bindra: Who's gonna go sell this to the client and execute on it, now they have to be able to execute it.
- 26:13Vipul Bindra: I guess they have to have zero investment.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it depends on like what kind of clients you're working with.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: You know, if you're working all the time and you're constantly having to find somebody to rent your camera from, it probably gets a little complicated at some point, you know.
- 26:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but I'm saying then you s you're you are you have so much freedom though.
- 26:29Vipul Bindra: Right because if Sean says I'm not available, hey Bendra, yeah, you want to come shoot this project with me?
- 26:34Vipul Bindra: You see what I'm saying?
- 26:34Vipul Bindra: You're not limited, and then let's say if if Sony comes up with the FX2 mark, FX6 Mark II, and again, you could become the I'm saying the person who's selling the video to the client, you could become the budget option, and now you could go, let's say Sean, you decide not to upgrade.
- 26:51Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:52Vipul Bindra: So so now that he's like, hey, can you cut the rate a little bit?
- 26:54Vipul Bindra: The camera's not value.
- 26:55Vipul Bindra: You're like, sure, I'll do it for 2200.
- 26:57Vipul Bindra: I don't know.
- 26:58Vipul Bindra: Or whatever the rate is, and and versus I upgrade and I I get the new FX Mark II.
- 27:03Vipul Bindra: So you'd be like, uh, oh, or so now you have two options to client.
- 27:06Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, we could do it at this price point, right?
- 27:09Vipul Bindra: Uh, or we can do it at this price point.
- 27:11Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 27:11Vipul Bindra: You seem to say you're you didn't have to make a zero zero investment.
- 27:14Vipul Bindra: So now you can use FXX Mar II or FX7, whatever the age, whatever they call it.
- 27:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 27:19Vipul Bindra: What I'm saying is that the both approaches are correct.
- 27:22Vipul Bindra: It just depends on what's right.
- 27:25Vipul Bindra: At the end of the day, I'm saying if you want to make money, gear is not the way.
- 27:29Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 27:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 27:30Vipul Bindra: But if you love video, then you know you want your kid, you want to have something to be with.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Because I haven't I haven't seen a lot of people do it that don't have gear.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Like you, you're a good salesman, right?
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Like you know how to like kind of pitch yourself and like Yeah, but uh here's the thing.
- 27:44Vipul Bindra: I'll tell you the recent plot project I closed not even a week ago, right?
- 27:48Vipul Bindra: No.
- 27:49Vipul Bindra: Uh and um guess what they they called me.
- 27:52Vipul Bindra: They said, hey, let's get on a call.
- 27:54Vipul Bindra: We want to make a c a few videos.
- 27:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 27:57Vipul Bindra: And uh here's the scope.
- 27:58Vipul Bindra: They had the videos lined up.
- 28:00Vipul Bindra: Rough idea.
- 28:00Vipul Bindra: Obviously, they want my help.
- 28:02Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 28:02Vipul Bindra: But that but I was like, sounds good.
- 28:03Vipul Bindra: They were and I was like, What's the budget?
- 28:05Vipul Bindra: They were like, Well, we don't know.
- 28:06Vipul Bindra: Like, well, you you've hired me a few times, you know what this type of things costs.
- 28:09Vipul Bindra: Uh, are we gonna make something really good?
- 28:11Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 28:12Vipul Bindra: And what are we so what part of video we're looking at?
- 28:14Vipul Bindra: They gave me a price.
- 28:15Vipul Bindra: I said, You gave me a price times that by the number of videos, that's the total.
- 28:19Vipul Bindra: Let's do it.
- 28:20Vipul Bindra: And we're like, let's do it.
- 28:21Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 28:22Vipul Bindra: At no point did we talk about how many people on how many shoot days?
- 28:26Vipul Bindra: But this is cameras.
- 28:27Vipul Bindra: That's all it's yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
- 28:28Vipul Bindra: But I didn't do any sales, yeah.
- 28:30Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 28:31Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but I have the relationship, right?
- 28:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I have built that trust, right?
- 28:36Vipul Bindra: But the sales is no sales.
- 28:38Vipul Bindra: Like you called me, you were like, hey, dude, I'm I'm doing commercial, you want to help?
- 28:41Vipul Bindra: I was like, absolutely cool.
- 28:43Vipul Bindra: I don't have to sell you on anything because you have a trust.
- 28:46Vipul Bindra: You know, if Bendra comes, he's coming with yeah, everything, and I'm gonna take care of you because that's what I do with my clients.
- 28:52Vipul Bindra: The same thing as this client doesn't mean I won't take care of them, right?
- 28:56Vipul Bindra: But we didn't have that discussion.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: So, what I'm saying is so I don't know, equipment doesn't sell anything.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Let's use uh, because like you've been in the industry for a long time, everybody knows you, we know what you have, we know the quality that you bring and everything.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: But you have uh a newer guy on the scene who doesn't have anything, right?
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: I don't think he'll be able to tackle that call the same, he probably won't even get the call in the first place.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: So it's like you gotta come to the table with something.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, so you need some a way to build your portfolio, build relationships to know people.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: But like if you if you don't have anything, I honestly probably wouldn't hire you on my set.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 29:30Vipul Bindra: So it's yeah, but see, it's different.
- 29:32Vipul Bindra: Though though that that'd be wrong approach, right?
- 29:34Vipul Bindra: If somebody is new, let's say just start a full sale and they go, hey, I want to be a DP on the city.
- 29:38Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:39Vipul Bindra: What?
- 29:40Vipul Bindra: Hold on a minute.
- 29:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I think the approach is I think the the approach would be the the and again, every everyone has their own approach, but the way I would approach it is simply as just meeting you.
- 29:50Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 29:50Vipul Bindra: I think meeting you is a bigger value than being in your set first because you have so much novel of knowledge, you've been doing this a few years, you've figured out you've cracked the code, which is right, how do I make a livable income doing this?
- 30:03Vipul Bindra: Doing this, yeah.
- 30:04Vipul Bindra: This is fun.
- 30:05Vipul Bindra: Let's be real.
- 30:05Vipul Bindra: What we do is cool, right?
- 30:07Vipul Bindra: So so being able to do this and make a living is is awesome, but so many people can't haven't been able to figure that out.
- 30:14Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 30:14Vipul Bindra: So I think just being able to tap into you and be asking you questions, what would you do now?
- 30:19Vipul Bindra: Now, what would you do today?
- 30:20Vipul Bindra: Because, like we said, industry moves so fast.
- 30:22Vipul Bindra: And you in one coffee could give them good advice that I think is worth it.
- 30:26Vipul Bindra: The second thing I would ask is, hey, let me come be on your set and do BTS.
- 30:29Vipul Bindra: Something where you out of the way, yeah.
- 30:31Vipul Bindra: And once you have got their vibes right, you think, yeah, they're not gonna bother my client.
- 30:35Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:36Vipul Bindra: And they can learn.
- 30:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly, right?
- 30:38Vipul Bindra: You gotta just observe.
- 30:40Vipul Bindra: Uh I think that is where I would approach it, not straight to the client.
- 30:43Vipul Bindra: You're right.
- 30:44Vipul Bindra: But nothing stops you if you have enough knowledge.
- 30:47Vipul Bindra: Let's say you've been on a few sets, you understand now how Sean approaches his client, and you approach a company and you sell them on a project, and you you know for sure you can execute it.
- 30:58Vipul Bindra: Nothing stops that person now from coming to, hey Sean, I have a client that I need your help on.
- 31:03Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 31:03Vipul Bindra: Would you DP this project for me?
- 31:05Vipul Bindra: The same person who is now asking you for coffee could now hire you, and then they could go, hey, uh, what's your rate?
- 31:11Vipul Bindra: What you gonna take on this, right?
- 31:12Vipul Bindra: And then that's the negotiation that you would have.
- 31:15Vipul Bindra: And now you can bring your years of experience, all the gear that you have without this person having to do anything.
- 31:21Vipul Bindra: My entire point is the most successful filmmaker I know owns very little.
- 31:26Vipul Bindra: They're using reds, but they're like 10-year-old cameras.
- 31:30Vipul Bindra: You could buy the red for$1,500.
- 31:32Vipul Bindra: Are they they're DP?
- 31:33Vipul Bindra: No, they're production companies.
- 31:34Vipul Bindra: Production company?
- 31:35Vipul Bindra: Production company, three to four tables.
- 31:38Vipul Bindra: Yeah, one of these states.
- 31:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:39Vipul Bindra: I don't want to say bad things, because you know, I let's be real, they make awesome videos, but the tools they use are very old tools.
- 31:47Vipul Bindra: They're like very old red cameras, very small team, uh, but they're making seven figures, right?
- 31:53Vipul Bindra: Right, right, right.
- 31:54Vipul Bindra: They're doing they're killing it because the videos are fun to watch.
- 31:58Vipul Bindra: Right, right.
- 31:58Vipul Bindra: They're not cinematic videos, but the videos are fun to watch, they have good stories.
- 32:03Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 32:03Vipul Bindra: People videos that people want to share.
- 32:05Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 32:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 32:06Vipul Bindra: And that makes them a million dollars using literally the most most rudimentary tools.
- 32:11Vipul Bindra: Because like I said, it was it was good at one point when they bought it.
- 32:14Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 32:14Vipul Bindra: But now the company's 15 years old.
- 32:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:16Vipul Bindra: It's old school, and they never saw the need to upgrade because they're like, well, it's a job done.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Well, I I guess that's kind of what I was saying.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Like, I they they're still invested in some way, yeah, but they're not they don't have the gear acquisition center where they're constantly buying the newest.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's necessarily the newest, but you gotta have you gotta be in the game in some way, shape, or form.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: You can't have nothing.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and like and I would love to collaborate.
- 32:37Vipul Bindra: For example, with this person I'm talking about.
- 32:39Vipul Bindra: I wouldn't hire them as my DP.
- 32:41Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 32:41Vipul Bindra: But I would love to bring them on as like a producer and be like, hey, how do we make how do we make something like you're doing, right?
- 32:47Vipul Bindra: Like we got the technical side, and it could be the opposite.
- 32:50Vipul Bindra: Not that I don't make creative videos, but uh, you know, a lot of people bring me on as the technical side, just because I'm so so into everything, where they're like, hey, I don't know what's the latest, the greatest.
- 33:01Vipul Bindra: But we'll just come on set, you know, you take care of the equipment and the year, and I don't mind helping friends where they're good, they will focus about the client, the story, the all the you know, the creative side of it.
- 33:11Vipul Bindra: And I'm happy to come in.
- 33:12Vipul Bindra: And even then, a lot of times I'm solving problems because they're like, so we want the light here.
- 33:16Vipul Bindra: Where do we put the light to get the light that we want, right?
- 33:19Vipul Bindra: So it is creative and technical at the same time.
- 33:22Vipul Bindra: But what I'm saying is they didn't invest in things, they don't know whether 1200x is the latest or have it or not.
- 33:28Vipul Bindra: But I guess there's where do you fit in?
- 33:31Vipul Bindra: I think that's where the the summary of this I see is like you are carving your own path.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, finding my own clients and stuff like that.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 33:39Vipul Bindra: And you're like, this is the value I bring.
- 33:42Vipul Bindra: And having the right tools is a value, absolutely.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: And a tool is knowing someone like Benja Productions, you know.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, like I know you, I have a couple other gaffers I know.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, DPs, everything is like your network is a is something you also provide to the county, right?
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Some people don't have that either.
- 33:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and and and and even if you acquired gear, my entire thing, it's not always like for example, the shoot that we we did uh recently, and like I said, we were talking about with Esteban, it's like we needed pocket threes.
- 34:10Vipul Bindra: I don't own those cheaper cameras, right?
- 34:12Vipul Bindra: Makes me want to buy one, right?
- 34:13Vipul Bindra: But I needed pocket threes.
- 34:15Vipul Bindra: We found people who had pocket threes.
- 34:16Vipul Bindra: So now having a pocket three was a value, right?
- 34:18Vipul Bindra: The people in that set were because they had pocket three.
- 34:22Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 34:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, it makes sense.
- 34:23Vipul Bindra: He was like, I have an FX6, FX3.
- 34:25Vipul Bindra: I was like, No, no, I don't need any of that.
- 34:26Vipul Bindra: I got those two.
- 34:27Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I need you to bring your pocket three.
- 34:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah, uh, so sometimes you never know.
- 34:31Vipul Bindra: I'm saying you're right.
- 34:32Vipul Bindra: Here is a tool and it's an asset because yeah, you can get called for having specific things, and it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive things like my FPV pilot has an had a DJI action camera, and I was like, oh, perfect on his FPV because we were shooting now with Pocket 3s.
- 34:49Vipul Bindra: I was like, oh, it'll match perfectly, right?
- 34:51Vipul Bindra: Right, you fit right into the production, come on out, even though it's a$350 camera, I'm hiring him for his like extensive FPV skills, right?
- 35:00Vipul Bindra: But the camera being able to match with the Pocket 3 was the selling factor.
- 35:04Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 35:05Vipul Bindra: So uh so you so you wouldn't be amazed, like a$350 camera can also be the factor where because he could have been like, no, I only have GoPro, yeah.
- 35:12Vipul Bindra: And I'll be like, oh, let me hire this other FPV pilot with a matching camera.
- 35:16Vipul Bindra: Not that there's that much different, it just for workflow made sense.
- 35:19Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: Um and it fits.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess too, like it it depending on uh it doesn't necessarily matter the the tools you have.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I I know plenty of people who have FX6s that are hitting me up, like, oh, how do I do this?
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: I didn't know you could do that at FX6.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, why does it look like that?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you got the same camera I got.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: It's more of like, like you said, the FPV pilot.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: How do you use those tools?
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: So if you can, if you got a 10-year-old camera, a Canon, whatever, but your quality is looking better than these guys who are doing it with the FX6, you can still, you know, you can still make some moves with that.
- 35:52Vipul Bindra: No, you're absolutely right.
- 35:54Vipul Bindra: Knowing your tool, it's like taking a very successful, let's say very experienced construction person and saying, hey, we're gonna take your D Walt or Milwaukee tools.
- 36:03Vipul Bindra: Here's a hammer.
- 36:04Vipul Bindra: Here's a here's here's cheaper Walmart tools.
- 36:06Vipul Bindra: Will they struggle?
- 36:07Vipul Bindra: Yes, but will they be able to make something beautiful?
- 36:09Vipul Bindra: Yes, yeah, and strong, you know, because and I would hire him any day over the new guy who has Milwaukee and all the best tools.
- 36:15Vipul Bindra: Now, the the right combination, and this is where people get it wrong, some people are like gear don't matter, or or you know, sk or or whatever, skills don't matter, yeah.
- 36:24Vipul Bindra: The whole thing is the right is the right person with the right tools.
- 36:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 36:28Vipul Bindra: So so it's so the both arguments technically fall flat, but at the end of the day, the way I look at it, at least in corporate commercial filmmaking, here's the the truth.
- 36:38Vipul Bindra: Can you do it sustainably?
- 36:41Vipul Bindra: There's no point not having tools or having tools if you don't have clients.
- 36:45Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 36:45Vipul Bindra: If you don't have people who you who get value out of what you you do, right, and they're willing to pay for it.
- 36:52Vipul Bindra: The truth is the most high-paying clients do not give a crap about the camera I have.
- 36:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 36:58Vipul Bindra: But they do have a trust factor that I will bring the right tools and the right people for the job, right?
- 37:03Vipul Bindra: And and and that's what I think is more important.
- 37:06Vipul Bindra: Building a network, building trust, yeah, finding those clients.
- 37:10Vipul Bindra: Because I bet you your clients love you not because you have the Rls, but because what you create with the Rls.
- 37:16Vipul Bindra: But having the R's helps to help you create.
- 37:18Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 37:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:20Vipul Bindra: So it's like both sword that way.
- 37:22Vipul Bindra: It's weird.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because my clients, they just I mean, I will say the goal, the goals on the lens is just like, oh my god, this is crazy.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: But they're not gonna pay me more just because they see the goal.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: That's more, yeah.
- 37:31Vipul Bindra: But the way I look at it is very simple, being honest with you, Sean.
- 37:34Vipul Bindra: I'm like, hey, if I need now Lester and you're that you're you have them available that day, guess what I'm doing?
- 37:39Vipul Bindra: I'm calling you, I'm bringing them on set, and you get some rental money, and now I didn't have to spend 10 grand buying those lenses.
- 37:46Vipul Bindra: That makes sense.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it makes sense.
- 37:48Vipul Bindra: So I think, and same thing, I'm sure you you're there's a project, you're like, hey, they wanna they don't want that that uh amber color.
- 37:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 37:56Vipul Bindra: They don't want the the the vintagey look.
- 37:58Vipul Bindra: So I can I but I love the odds.
- 38:00Vipul Bindra: Can I borrow uh your audio?
- 38:02Vipul Bindra: I'm like, sure, you know, yeah, it's some extra money in my pocket, they were not being used of that day, right?
- 38:07Vipul Bindra: And we both win but by having the right tools and then having the right network.
- 38:11Vipul Bindra: I hope that makes sense.
- 38:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's so so I think, yeah, exactly.
- 38:14Vipul Bindra: I think that that's why when when I heard, I was like, this is amazing because I wanted to buy the Luster, yeah, and I made the decision to buy the non-luster ones just because they fit better in what I do, but that does not mean I won't have projects where I need this.
- 38:28Vipul Bindra: And you never know.
- 38:29Vipul Bindra: We could probably bring you uh in, you know, if we can afford you right as the DP on that project.
- 38:34Vipul Bindra: Don't do that, I don't do that.
- 38:35Vipul Bindra: Friends, your rates will be up another more in six months when I need it.
- 38:39Vipul Bindra: For clients, but for friends, I got it.
- 38:41Vipul Bindra: No, it's the same thing.
- 38:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, no, I I do the same thing helping friends out, but you get the point.
- 38:46Vipul Bindra: We both win by knowing each other and having right, but also different tools, actually.
- 38:51Vipul Bindra: Because if you both have the R lenses, it's a key, then who's winning?
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, I think even like uh, I mean the FX6 is it is a popular camera, but that still kind of set me apart from a lot of people that I knew.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I only know like maybe 10 people that have FX6.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: I don't I know you probably know you probably know a lot.
- 39:08Vipul Bindra: Everyone has an FX6, yeah, yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess I know 10 people that I like that have the FX6.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the light.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you're one, you're one.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: You got two FX, you're two of them.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah, so I I think like it kind of adds some value because like people like me, I like them.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: So it's like, oh, I want to hire somebody I like that has a camera that I need.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, versus if I had like a uh Z V E 10 or something like that, it's like I like you, but like I your camera isn't what I need, you know.
- 39:40Vipul Bindra: So you got so it's no before I had two, funny enough, because when I was going through my Z V E 10?
- 39:45Vipul Bindra: No, not Z V 10, the FX6 I'm talking about before I had two, because you know, I transitioned a couple years ago from Canon.
- 39:50Vipul Bindra: So I had bought one and then took me a bit to say yes to the Sony ecosystem.
- 39:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 39:55Vipul Bindra: Point is I I actually hired someone just because I needed a B cam, and the only reason I Hired them, which they were a good person, but because they had the FX6.
- 40:03Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 40:03Vipul Bindra: I needed that camera and I needed someone who can operate that camera.
- 40:06Vipul Bindra: And knows how to use it.
- 40:07Vipul Bindra: Made it made it very easy to decision to get them, you know.
- 40:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 40:11Vipul Bindra: So so you're right.
- 40:13Vipul Bindra: Gear will get you jobs.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: To an extent.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but if you showed up on it, you know.
- 40:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but if you showed up and you didn't have uh the skills to operate that camera, I don't I don't think you you would think on the fly, you know.
- 40:27Vipul Bindra: Because if I give somebody my, for example, like I'm like, here's the keys, take my van.
- 40:31Vipul Bindra: I don't think most people will even know where to start.
- 40:34Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 40:34Vipul Bindra: If I uh if I'm making real sense.
- 40:36Vipul Bindra: Not saying that uh it's something difficult, it's just it takes years of experience, right?
- 40:42Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 40:43Vipul Bindra: Uh of how to set up this specific thing with this specific thing, this accessory goes here.
- 40:48Vipul Bindra: If you don't even know what you need to grab, yeah, you see what I'm saying?
- 40:51Vipul Bindra: Like, yeah, even though it may just be a knuckle that you tighten here, yeah.
- 40:55Vipul Bindra: But I have a grip, for example, milk crate, right?
- 40:57Vipul Bindra: That has like 50 different grip things in there.
- 41:00Vipul Bindra: If you have no idea which one you need, you'll be all day there just figuring out something that would take me five seconds to figure out, right?
- 41:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:07Vipul Bindra: And uh, so I think that gear, but if you also needed a certain knuckle and you didn't have it, it doesn't matter how much skill you have.
- 41:14Vipul Bindra: You don't got it, you gotta find it.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: But like like I work with Oliver a lot, and like Oliver, he's he's not necessarily a he's more of a DP than a gaffer, but he knows a lot like on how to make things happen.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: So like we'll get on set, a shoe, and let's say we forgot that that knuckle that we need.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: He knows five other ways to make the same thing happen, right?
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: You know, and that's that's super valuable, yeah.
- 41:35Vipul Bindra: And same thing uh with me, that's how I ended up even being hired sometimes to do a gaffing job.
- 41:42Vipul Bindra: Because I'm primarily a director, producer, DP, right?
- 41:45Vipul Bindra: Right, but then somehow I've ended up on my friend set doing audio or gaffing.
- 41:49Vipul Bindra: And it's because when you've been doing this so long, you've been in so many different you have I've been around some of the really, really talented gaffers throughout the country.
- 41:59Vipul Bindra: You learn and you cut pick up things and you go, Oh, okay.
- 42:02Vipul Bindra: I can do this.
- 42:02Vipul Bindra: You can do that with that.
- 42:04Vipul Bindra: Oh yeah, exactly.
- 42:04Vipul Bindra: And I I and I can set up things and whatever.
- 42:08Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and and and the reason that gives me funny enough a competitive advantage is because now I'm in a smaller market, right?
- 42:14Vipul Bindra: And most gaffers here are you know working with tools that are let's say not industry standard because that's like you said, they they can just buy newer or whatever, that's what they have in in their arsenal because the rates are lower.
- 42:27Vipul Bindra: Then I can come in if a production comes in from LA, they're like, hey, we're just looking for this, this, this, this, and oh, you're the only one who has all this.
- 42:35Vipul Bindra: So you you can write plug and play, plus they don't have to describe to you what they want, how to to make it work, or whatever.
- 42:42Vipul Bindra: They just say, Hey, I want this, I can go in, I already have the skills, set it up.
- 42:46Vipul Bindra: They get value, and I get value, everyone wins.
- 42:50Vipul Bindra: So that's everybody wins, yeah.
- 42:51Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's been a really nice thing since we deployed the van at the beginning of the year.
- 42:56Vipul Bindra: We're I've been able to just plug into productions without uh you know, it being um uh a hassle to anyone.
- 43:04Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but that doesn't mean that's replaced my primary income.
- 43:07Vipul Bindra: Let's be real, of course, which is why I said people are like, I've had a few calls, they're like, hey, I want to build a van, or whatever.
- 43:12Vipul Bindra: I'm like, absolutely.
- 43:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I don't know.
- 43:14Vipul Bindra: They're like, would you financially recommend it?
- 43:16Vipul Bindra: No.
- 43:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:17Vipul Bindra: You know, the the the it's not.
- 43:18Vipul Bindra: You already had all the stuff, yeah, exactly.
- 43:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so makes sense.
- 43:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so it made sense, but also it made sense because I had the clients and the jobs, right?
- 43:24Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 43:24Vipul Bindra: Uh to justify it, and the network.
- 43:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so it it doesn't make sense to if you ask me business-wise, uh, for you to become uh to buy a rental, like a grip van or whatever in Orlando.
- 43:36Vipul Bindra: No, plus also where the industry's going.
- 43:39Vipul Bindra: The industry is compacting.
- 43:41Vipul Bindra: People who can do shoots for l with less people and less gear, yeah, are who are gonna be successful, not people the other way around.
- 43:48Vipul Bindra: Does that mean setups will go away?
- 43:50Vipul Bindra: No.
- 43:51Vipul Bindra: But you're doing a commercial, you're not gonna have 50 people on set.
- 43:54Vipul Bindra: It just doesn't work that way anymore.
- 43:56Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, we have the same amount of work, but now it's gonna be done by five people, ten people, right?
- 44:01Vipul Bindra: That's just how productions are moving, and people who fit in there is where who are gonna be successful.
- 44:07Vipul Bindra: And the way at least what I'm doing is building that.
- 44:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what I enjoy, and I want to be able to plug into those productions, and that's where I see the industry going now.
- 44:16Vipul Bindra: You want to get neat?
- 44:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: What do you oh my gosh?
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: Uh I think I feel like society is moving like the the everything you just explained is moving towards a direction where we have more time, but we gotta feel that more time that we have, right?
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: So, like, like those hot lights we were talking about earlier, super complicated setup, gotta wait 15 minutes for them to cool down, everything like that.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: So it's like everything is moving.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: We got more time because it's quicker to set up, quicker to use, easier to use, but now we need you to use that time more.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: So it's like like the the commercial that we're doing, it's a smaller crew, but like you're doing more stuff than somebody would have done uh 20 years ago, and then I just had to do one thing, I gotta manage this one light.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: So I feel like even with AI, everything is just like, oh yeah, we got we got more stuff on our plate now.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Now, is that good?
- 45:11Vipul Bindra: I mean, you want to go deep society because you're like, hey, five years ago I would have paid you fifteen hundred dollars to just operate a camera.
- 45:18Vipul Bindra: That's it.
- 45:19Vipul Bindra: Now I will pay you fifteen hundred dollars, but you gotta operate the camera, you gotta bring the lens, you gotta set up audio, or you gotta set up set decoration, you gotta do so much more, and and the biggest thing, the 1500 now means way less than it did 10 years ago.
- 45:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:35Vipul Bindra: So technically you're working for in that terms, you're working for 500 bucks now, if that makes it the value of the money.
- 45:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 45:41Vipul Bindra: And you're doing four people's job.
- 45:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 45:43Vipul Bindra: So but so that's the the truth.
- 45:47Vipul Bindra: That's the truth.
- 45:48Vipul Bindra: We can also sit here and go, oh, that's not right.
- 45:50Vipul Bindra: That's not, you know, but the truth is I feel like if you don't move, then you're the dinosaur.
- 45:57Vipul Bindra: Like you don't change with the time.
- 45:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:58Vipul Bindra: That is what's expected of you.
- 46:00Vipul Bindra: Now that's where the new tools come in.
- 46:02Vipul Bindra: The AI, all these LED lights, or the cameras, or whatever.
- 46:06Vipul Bindra: Everything's making your job.
- 46:07Vipul Bindra: They didn't even have this much, like what dynamic range or FX6 has.
- 46:12Vipul Bindra: They didn't even have in the first, you know, digital cameras they started using for movies.
- 46:16Vipul Bindra: So people complain about equipment like Pixas 12K or this, and I'm like, we already have cameras that are good enough, yeah, for corporate and commercial video.
- 46:25Vipul Bindra: They're easy to rent, they're everywhere, all over, yeah.
- 46:28Vipul Bindra: Like, like you said, you want to use Pixas 12K as long as it's released, because I know finding it would be the harder thing just because of availability and other people don't want it.
- 46:36Vipul Bindra: We might go 6k.
- 46:38Vipul Bindra: Yeah, if not, they're everywhere, man.
- 46:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah, all over, yeah.
- 46:41Vipul Bindra: So so you you have choice.
- 46:43Vipul Bindra: Like I said, if we wanted to use Burano, we use the Burano.
- 46:45Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 46:45Vipul Bindra: We didn't have to go, oh, where do we find this?
- 46:47Vipul Bindra: It was like, oh, who has it?
- 46:49Vipul Bindra: Okay, hey, let's make deals, and whoever gave us the best deal, let's get the Burano.
- 46:53Vipul Bindra: So I feel like equipment has become way, way more accessible, which is why I'm like, I was saying, like, yes, equipment matters, but the coming back to it, the investment in it doesn't matter.
- 47:04Vipul Bindra: Because in the past, you could have bought a camera, 10, 20 rentals later, it's paid for itself, right?
- 47:09Vipul Bindra: Not anymore.
- 47:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:10Vipul Bindra: No.
- 47:11Vipul Bindra: So rental income is not worth it anymore.
- 47:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 47:14Vipul Bindra: But if you have jobs where you can use rental.
- 47:16Vipul Bindra: Right, that's different.
- 47:17Vipul Bindra: That's where it comes in.
- 47:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 47:19Vipul Bindra: Because now what's happening is, which is why rental houses seem to be disappearing.
- 47:23Vipul Bindra: What people are doing, and uh, and this is a very common thread, is making that money lost through any jobs you can bring equipment.
- 47:31Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 47:31Vipul Bindra: So what are you gonna do is like, hey, oh, you can't up my DP rate.
- 47:35Vipul Bindra: How about we add these lenses, or we add this camera package, or we add whatever package you want to add.
- 47:41Vipul Bindra: And sure, I won't you won't charge as much rental rate as like a rental house.
- 47:45Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 47:45Vipul Bindra: But you're still adding that to you, right?
- 47:48Vipul Bindra: How that makes sense.
- 47:49Vipul Bindra: That's how at least I see people in the industry offsetting uh the lost info, I guess, inflation or whatever.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: I was uh I was working with a production company out in Boston a while ago, and I I might have said the story last time, but for people who didn't listen, I'll say it again.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Um, they were talking about how a lot of their jobs had to be like$50,000 and up, or they just were losing money because they have so much crew to pay for, equipment, they had a facility, all this stuff.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: And the people like myself who are kind of like more grassroots, independent, small team oriented, who can like I see$10,000.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that sounds great to me.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm I was winning over them because especially like you know, the economy wasn't the best last year.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Um, and clients are like, yeah,$10,000 sounds way better than$40,000 and we're getting the same quality.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: And like I'm like, I'm like, okay, I'm gonna make three thousand dollars off of this.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Sounds good to me.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, so he was like, it's for those bigger production company companies, it's kind of hard for them right now, yeah, to connect.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: And because they're not pivoting, yeah.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: They pivoting.
- 48:51Vipul Bindra: They gotta pivot and they're they're and and that's just again, and some are.
- 48:55Vipul Bindra: Let's not be real.
- 48:56Vipul Bindra: Not uh it's not all that are going to go downhill, of course.
- 48:59Vipul Bindra: But that happens when there's a then when there's a uh a change in the industry, and to be real, this isn't like overnight, this has been happening for years.
- 49:07Vipul Bindra: Yeah, uh, it's people just need to see where it's going.
- 49:11Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 49:11Vipul Bindra: At the end of the day, you know, it's again giving value.
- 49:15Vipul Bindra: Like come back to it.
- 49:16Vipul Bindra: I am a video company, right?
- 49:19Vipul Bindra: You can that doesn't mean I can't hire you.
- 49:22Vipul Bindra: Even though you are a video company, right?
- 49:24Vipul Bindra: Because as long as you come in and you can give me some value, I pay for it, right?
- 49:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah so so I think people need to come back to the the lowest of lowest, it's just value, it's not that complicated.
- 49:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's somebody comes to you, and whether they have five hundred dollars or five thousand dollars, right?
- 49:43Vipul Bindra: You need to give them the right value.
- 49:45Vipul Bindra: And if you're there where you can in five, like you said, if you're in the career path where you can take 500 and you can give them huge value, yeah, you're the guy.
- 49:54Vipul Bindra: And and if you can come in and take the five thousand dollars and give them the value, cool, then you're the guy.
- 49:59Vipul Bindra: Because there's two ways you can approach this, Sean, right?
- 50:02Vipul Bindra: Let's say you are now a few years into your career, 5,000 means nothing to you.
- 50:07Vipul Bindra: Inflation's even worse.
- 50:08Vipul Bindra: So, so right now you say, Oh, give me 10 grand or five grand, yeah, I'll make you sick video.
- 50:14Vipul Bindra: Yeah, then they may call you and they may go, Hey, I've got five grand, can you do this?
- 50:18Vipul Bindra: And you'll be like, uh, I'd love to, but unless you can up your budget of 15k or whatever, I can't.
- 50:22Vipul Bindra: I can't at the minimum.
- 50:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 50:24Vipul Bindra: And then, but that could be one scrappy guy, then you know, student out, and they're like, hey, 5k, I got you.
- 50:29Vipul Bindra: Oh, I make it, I'll do it.
- 50:30Vipul Bindra: I get this FX6 Mark IV, I don't know, whatever the old school camera then is.
- 50:34Vipul Bindra: And they're like, uh, for that you, that may be like too old, right?
- 50:38Vipul Bindra: But it may be value enough for that client.
- 50:40Vipul Bindra: So at the end day, that's why I say there's no competition because everyone's doing their own thing.
- 50:45Vipul Bindra: You just have to give the right value.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:48Vipul Bindra: If a client picks me, you, or any other random person listening to this, it's not a competition.
- 50:54Vipul Bindra: They found the right value.
- 50:56Vipul Bindra: And if they if I didn't win, let's say the project, the way I do it is just go back and say, like, what could I have different different to give them more value?
- 51:03Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 51:03Vipul Bindra: Now that does not mean lower my rate.
- 51:05Vipul Bindra: Of course.
- 51:05Vipul Bindra: That's a completely different people think value means just do the it's like who can make the best video at that$5,000.
- 51:12Vipul Bindra: Right, right.
- 51:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's that's all that is.
- 51:14Vipul Bindra: And and it and it doesn't mean you have to be the guy at every price point.
- 51:18Vipul Bindra: Of course.
- 51:19Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 51:19Vipul Bindra: There's a price point like you gotta have your mark your your threshold.
- 51:21Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, I'm at 10 grand, I can kill it over this 40k people.
- 51:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and then you are the guy to get those jobs, right?
- 51:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 51:28Vipul Bindra: Five years later, who knows you'll be the guy for those jobs, you may be a guy for different jobs.
- 51:32Vipul Bindra: Who knows where you, like you said, where your path is headed, and but that's where you want to be, you want to be the best at what you do, at what you do, yeah.
- 51:40Vipul Bindra: Whatever that is, and that's where for you to define, I think, and your clients to define.
- 51:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, because it can't just be you, right?
- 51:46Vipul Bindra: You can be like, I want 40 grand, doesn't mean people will pay it.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, uh a while ago I learned.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is kind of something I I live by in my business.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: I try not to leave money on the table.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: A lot of it depends.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: I have my threshold that I'm like, hey, look, I'm not doing nothing for$200.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: Um, but if a client comes to me is like, hey man, I want X, Y, and Z, all this stuff, and I have$2,000.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, you can't do that for$2,000, but with your$2,000, we have we can do this, you know.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: And I I've seen people turn away clients because the number is too low.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, like if the number is nice, it's decent, try to find a way to make rich, give them less.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: But give them the quality, but it's like I can't give I can't give you five videos, I can do one.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: You know, but the quality is gonna be crazy, you know.
- 52:30Vipul Bindra: I totally agree.
- 52:30Vipul Bindra: You've got to find the the and then that's the negotiation part, right?
- 52:34Vipul Bindra: You figure out what's the best you can do for them.
- 52:36Vipul Bindra: And I'm sure most new clients is different.
- 52:39Vipul Bindra: If it's a repeat client, usually they just come to you.
- 52:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but if it's a if it's a repeat client uh a new client, I'm sure they're talking to a couple other people, but if your bit is the most strong, you'll win it.
- 52:49SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 52:49Vipul Bindra: It doesn't have to people a lot of times are afraid.
- 52:51Vipul Bindra: They're like, no, I have to say yes to five videos or I'm gonna lose.
- 52:55Vipul Bindra: It's like, no, you do the best for them that you can do because at the end of the day, you know, it's it's it's the right fit, is what I'm saying.
- 53:03Vipul Bindra: Because like sometimes I need people, right, where the rate is lower, but it's like if you don't have, let's say, somebody who doesn't have the equipment, I'm like, I need an FX6 operator.
- 53:12Vipul Bindra: I'm just giving an example, and uh, but they don't even own an FX6, now they could be an FX6 operator because I have the camera, right?
- 53:21Vipul Bindra: And I'm like, hey, this is the rate.
- 53:22Vipul Bindra: Uh you can come operate my FX6, gives me value, gives you value because you don't even have to buy it and have zero investment.
- 53:28Vipul Bindra: 100% is your profit.
- 53:30Vipul Bindra: Now that will that the rate be the same if you're somebody's bringing.
- 53:33Vipul Bindra: So I've had, like I said, people have to bring an FX6 node, then it's like, hey, here's your rate, here's your equipment rate, right?
- 53:39Vipul Bindra: You make more money, but then you had to spend six plus a couple thousand upfitting it.
- 53:44Vipul Bindra: So let's say a grand to get your camera package ready.
- 53:46Vipul Bindra: Then you deserve that extra money for for being an operator.
- 53:50Vipul Bindra: Now the same camera they could go to a direct client and make 10x the money because now they're not labor or equipment rental.
- 53:58Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 53:58Vipul Bindra: They are the production company.
- 53:59Vipul Bindra: That's where none of that matters.
- 54:01Vipul Bindra: You just go, hey, I'll make you this, that's what you win this, and that's where you win.
- 54:05Vipul Bindra: So that's where the highest income always comes.
- 54:08Vipul Bindra: But, you know, it's it's if you want to be.
- 54:10Vipul Bindra: We have friends, you know, who don't want to do that.
- 54:12Vipul Bindra: They're just like, Yeah, I just want to be my DP and I'm done.
- 54:15Vipul Bindra: In and out, I'm happy.
- 54:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:17Vipul Bindra: I don't want to deal with the clients and all that, you know, the mess that comes with it.
- 54:20Vipul Bindra: So it's not for everyone.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Can I ask you a question?
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: When you um could you're I I did uh when I first met you, we did a call with uh uh guy who owned a restaurant.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you remember that.
- 54:30Vipul Bindra: Oh, yes, yes, I remember.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Um I was like, man, this guy's really good at like sales and stuff.
- 54:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 54:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: I thought you I thought the call wasn't it.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Nah, nah, you crushed it.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but like outside of film, where did you learn like those skills?
- 54:48SPEAKER_01: Is it like just childhood?
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, could you are you Indian?
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean Indian, they they can sell.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you something.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Hey, they can sell.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: Let me answer my own question.
- 54:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, no, no, but let me ask Mario, you remember we were working recently with an Indian client.
- 55:02Vipul Bindra: What happened with them?
- 55:03Vipul Bindra: I was asking something.
- 55:04Vipul Bindra: Do you remember the what did he say it?
- 55:06Mario Rangel: He said, I don't work with Indians.
- 55:08Mario Rangel: Oh, he doesn't work with it.
- 55:09Vipul Bindra: So we were working with an Indian guy who said, so typically, to be honest, I'm very rarely working with Indian people either.
- 55:15Vipul Bindra: And and to be honest, Indian people, there's a reason most tech CEOs tend to be Indian.
- 55:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 55:21Vipul Bindra: Of most companies.
- 55:21Vipul Bindra: I think Apple is the only one that has a white CEO.
- 55:24Vipul Bindra: Like they're all usually of Indian origin.
- 55:26Vipul Bindra: Let's try to say Indian.
- 55:27Vipul Bindra: The reason being is yes, Indians are very not all, again, it's 1.2 billion people.
- 55:32Vipul Bindra: But yes, in in America, at least they tend to be really good businessmen.
- 55:35Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 55:36Vipul Bindra: And they are known to say, Oh, hey, Sean, I need video.
- 55:39Vipul Bindra: And you're like, what is it?
- 55:40Vipul Bindra: What's about before 20,000, right?
- 55:42Vipul Bindra: You present then they look at 20,000, they divide it by, they're like, okay, 100 bucks.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: The prices are crazy.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: I like the confidence you gotta have to say that number.
- 55:51Vipul Bindra: But dude, okay, so you want to hear the story.
- 55:52Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 55:53Vipul Bindra: Then I got embarrassed.
- 55:54Vipul Bindra: Uh-huh.
- 55:54Vipul Bindra: I was I still remember this to the day.
- 55:57Vipul Bindra: My mom and I wanted some jeans.
- 55:59Vipul Bindra: I was a kid.
- 55:59Vipul Bindra: I'm done.
- 56:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:00Vipul Bindra: I wanted jeans or whatever.
- 56:02Vipul Bindra: And uh, so she took me shopping, right?
- 56:04Vipul Bindra: I found the jeans I liked.
- 56:05Vipul Bindra: I was like, okay, this is the one.
- 56:06Vipul Bindra: And uh, so she literally uh was like, how much?
- 56:10Vipul Bindra: And let's say he said 2,000 rupees or whatever, right?
- 56:13Vipul Bindra: Dude, I am not kidding.
- 56:14Vipul Bindra: If kid of me embarrassed, she literally said 50.
- 56:17Vipul Bindra: Oh, I was I just turned my eyes and turned out.
- 56:20Vipul Bindra: I was embarrassed for the guy.
- 56:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:22Vipul Bindra: And and and and here's the thing: here's the lesson learned.
- 56:25Vipul Bindra: I was like, no, I would have said, okay, haggling, bargaining is the thing in India.
- 56:29Vipul Bindra: So 2000, you could I would probably pay 1800, be happy with it, right?
- 56:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what I would have done.
- 56:34Vipul Bindra: But lesson learned.
- 56:35Vipul Bindra: So she said 50.
- 56:36Vipul Bindra: I'm not joking, and with so much confidence, yeah.
- 56:39Vipul Bindra: And uh I was embarrassed, I was just ready to get out.
- 56:41Vipul Bindra: I was like, I don't need no jeans, I'll wear my old jeans.
- 56:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, I got jeans at home, but I'm talking, I was so young that I still knew that that was embarrassing.
- 56:48Vipul Bindra: So I turned around.
- 56:49Vipul Bindra: Like, even he was like, So he felt he's he said it at least.
- 56:52Vipul Bindra: Look, wait, wait, let me finish this.
- 56:53Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so he was like, Hey, I'm uh yeah, that's what you're yeah, humiliating me now.
- 56:57Vipul Bindra: Like that that there's yeah, 2,000 to 50 rupees.
- 56:59Vipul Bindra: So she was like, Okay, she's very confident, she turned around.
- 57:01Vipul Bindra: She said, Okay, we don't need it.
- 57:02Vipul Bindra: We don't need it yet.
- 57:03Vipul Bindra: I'm not joking.
- 57:04Vipul Bindra: Five seconds, he was like, Okay, how about hundred?
- 57:07Vipul Bindra: And I was like, What just happened?
- 57:08Vipul Bindra: So we bought the jeans for and I'm like, that makes no sense.
- 57:11Vipul Bindra: That's like it's like one percent of the price.
- 57:14Vipul Bindra: Yeah, decrease.
- 57:15Vipul Bindra: So yes, Indians are crazy.
- 57:17Vipul Bindra: It's it's it's uh but I'm not like that, to be honest.
- 57:22Vipul Bindra: I do but you better business have a little bit of a lot of things.
- 57:25Vipul Bindra: Like, for example, I'm always like talk about buying gear, like I'm working with my reps, I'm like trying to get them the lowest.
- 57:32Vipul Bindra: This company's giving me this price.
- 57:33Vipul Bindra: You know, you you I do do that, but I don't go crazy, you know.
- 57:38Vipul Bindra: I I can't do the typical Indian thing, but which is why, funny enough, I don't have that many Indian clients for that reason.
- 57:44Vipul Bindra: Because and and that's fine.
- 57:45Vipul Bindra: Again, if it works for them, it works for them.
- 57:47Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but I think coming back to your question, yeah.
- 57:49Vipul Bindra: I think it's just um uh I think it just comes down to again finding your your value.
- 57:56Vipul Bindra: Here's what I learned.
- 57:57Vipul Bindra: I grew up with an entrepreneurial, you know, family.
- 58:00Vipul Bindra: We had business that we owned.
- 58:01Vipul Bindra: Oh, really?
- 58:02Vipul Bindra: So I so you know, I I saw how he and my dad interacted with like customers or whatever, right?
- 58:07Vipul Bindra: When they would come into a store or whatever.
- 58:09Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 58:09Vipul Bindra: And and that just you just watch that.
- 58:11Vipul Bindra: But you don't have to have an entrepreneurial dad to do that.
- 58:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you can go to a store and see.
- 58:16Vipul Bindra: That's good customer service or that's bad customer service.
- 58:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 58:19Vipul Bindra: You just pick up these things and you can choose.
- 58:21Vipul Bindra: I I've seen there's people who are like, Look, I I know some videographers that are just rude, plain rude to their clients, and they still have clients.
- 58:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, who'll get a client, let's say, who's like, hey, I can't do it for 10 grand.
- 58:31Vipul Bindra: Can you do eight?
- 58:32Vipul Bindra: And they go, Are you fucking kidding me?
- 58:34Vipul Bindra: And I'm talking like that.
- 58:35Vipul Bindra: They will talk to their clients like that.
- 58:37Vipul Bindra: And I'm like, How?
- 58:39Vipul Bindra: How are you still in business?
- 58:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 58:40Vipul Bindra: So clearly, you have to find your avenue.
- 58:42Vipul Bindra: At least for me, I the way I've always done in life, which is why I I hated having a job, because I want to be treated, uh, I treat people how I want to be treated, which is and it doesn't work with everyone.
- 58:53Vipul Bindra: Let me be real.
- 58:53Vipul Bindra: Like, my style is like where I'm like, I will have people call me, like friends who are like, hey, can I just borrow this gear?
- 59:00Vipul Bindra: Is it financially viable for me?
- 59:02Vipul Bindra: No, because the time to to take it, usually we're gonna talk.
- 59:06Vipul Bindra: No, but but I'm generally like, yeah, sure, you know, here's what I would normally charge, sell me whatever.
- 59:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, whatever.
- 59:12Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 59:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and I genuinely mean it.
- 59:14Vipul Bindra: You know why?
- 59:15Vipul Bindra: Because sure, I spent a lot of time.
- 59:16Vipul Bindra: If I started not perceived the real value in it, I'm in a negative.
- 59:21Vipul Bindra: But here's where I'm positive because I know what I do, it'll come back around.
- 59:25Vipul Bindra: When I need that guy to come on my set, and I can I can Indian thing him and pay$100 less or whatever than I was gonna pay, then he would say yes.
- 59:33Vipul Bindra: And and and that's why everyone wins, because uh they get um access to something they wouldn't have, and I get give them access to what they wouldn't have.
- 59:41Vipul Bindra: But at the end, it's just working with people, man.
- 59:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so I I I don't take it to heart.
- 59:46Vipul Bindra: I I treat people how I want to be treated, and and worst case, you can say no.
- 59:49Vipul Bindra: I just said no to an editing it for a friend.
- 59:51Vipul Bindra: Like I'm I'm always down to help.
- 59:53Vipul Bindra: We've got a team we can edit, and I'm always down to help, but it was just like, yeah, this is not the right fit.
- 59:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah, the timeline, the budget doesn't work.
- 1:00:00Vipul Bindra: Is what it is.
- 1:00:00Vipul Bindra: That doesn't mean I wouldn't help him the other way.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're not cut off for life or nothing like that.
- 1:00:05Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so it works.
- 1:00:06Vipul Bindra: At the end of you, it's a business, but my business isn't run solely for business.
- 1:00:11Vipul Bindra: Then I wouldn't be in video anyway.
- 1:00:12Vipul Bindra: There's 10 things I could do where I we can make more money.
- 1:00:15Vipul Bindra: I I do this because I love it and I'm down to help people.
- 1:00:18Vipul Bindra: And I think when you do that, it just comes because if you approach it right with the idea of helping, let's say somebody calls you, right?
- 1:00:26Vipul Bindra: And they're like, I need this, this, this.
- 1:00:28Vipul Bindra: And you genuinely are like curious.
- 1:00:30Vipul Bindra: You're like, sure, but what do you need?
- 1:00:32Vipul Bindra: What do you want?
- 1:00:32Vipul Bindra: Like you're trying to figure out the person what they need, and you're like, oh, I get it now.
- 1:00:37Vipul Bindra: I can do, like you said, for this price, I could do this, this, and this, right?
- 1:00:41Vipul Bindra: You give them the best you can.
- 1:00:42Vipul Bindra: And if as long as it works, you work together, you build that relationship.
- 1:00:46Vipul Bindra: It's it's not complicated.
- 1:00:47Vipul Bindra: I think people overcomplicate this.
- 1:00:49Vipul Bindra: Like, I need to go learn these skills, I need to watch Gary V, you know, all these business gurus and whatever.
- 1:00:55Vipul Bindra: I mean, yeah, not saying you shouldn't self-improve, but a lot of times things are simpler.
- 1:01:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:01:00Vipul Bindra: If if any videographers listening to me, I think it's just treat people how you want to be treated, uh, and uh just just be nice.
- 1:01:09Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and say no when you don't think it's the right fit.
- 1:01:12Vipul Bindra: Because the worst thing is let's say you you take a gig, but you're not into it, people will notice and nobody will be happy.
- 1:01:18Vipul Bindra: Same thing.
- 1:01:18Vipul Bindra: You you overtake advantage of the client where they give you 10 grand, now you're like, oh, I'm making nine grand profit on the and you spend very little.
- 1:01:25Vipul Bindra: Same thing, they'll notice the video, they'll be like, this doesn't feel like it's 10 grand, right?
- 1:01:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:29Vipul Bindra: So the point I'm trying to make is it's a balance, right?
- 1:01:32Vipul Bindra: And then you have to strike.
- 1:01:33Vipul Bindra: You're like, if I gave someone 10 grand, what would I want them to do?
- 1:01:36Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:01:37Vipul Bindra: And if you do that, you'll always win.
- 1:01:39Vipul Bindra: Because you're you're doing what you how you want to be treated, and usually most people want to be treated nice.
- 1:01:43Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:01:44Vipul Bindra: So so I think it makes it very simple because I've had people like, I don't know what my day rate should be.
- 1:01:49Vipul Bindra: And and it's a good valid question to ask, but I'm like, what would you pay for?
- 1:01:52Vipul Bindra: It's always fluctuating.
- 1:01:53Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:01:54Vipul Bindra: No, but I'll say, what would you pay yourself?
- 1:01:55Vipul Bindra: Right now, be real.
- 1:01:56Vipul Bindra: Like, what would you pay yourself?
- 1:01:57Vipul Bindra: How much you need to make in a day?
- 1:01:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:01:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:59Vipul Bindra: Really what day do you want to do it?
- 1:02:00Vipul Bindra: And then tell people that rate.
- 1:02:01Vipul Bindra: And if they say no, then yeah, maybe try a different rate.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: You gotta listen to the market.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: The market will tell you what, and that's what that's the thing, too.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Like, when I say my rate went up, it's really the market kind of told me my rate because uh I was saying 1200.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: Like, yep, you're yep, that's sound that sounds great.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:18Vipul Bindra: When that happens, you're like, hold on.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: How about 15?
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Yep, sounds good.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: I'm like, 2000.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, we got let me talk to the boss.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm like, okay, now I'm around that range.
- 1:02:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so you're like, let me try 1800.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you just kind of gotta play it, but you gotta risk saying get hearing a no.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: You know, you gotta risk saying a number and then be like, nah.
- 1:02:35Vipul Bindra: But people also, I think in our industry don't like work like a typical business.
- 1:02:39Vipul Bindra: So typical business, you go, I bought this laptop for this much, then I need to make this much for the rent, right?
- 1:02:46Vipul Bindra: And this is what I need for utilities, this is for my employees, this is what I need to sell it for.
- 1:02:50Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:02:50Vipul Bindra: Makes it very easy for a Best Buy to operate.
- 1:02:52Vipul Bindra: I think videographers don't think of themselves as that way because guess what?
- 1:02:56Vipul Bindra: You got electric bills, you got laptop bills, you got internet bills, all that is for business, your cell phone bills, the hours you spend on the phone, yeah, or calls, or anything that accounts.
- 1:03:06Vipul Bindra: Like if I spend, let's say I did a day rate thing for someone for$1,500, but I spent 10 hours on a phone call.
- 1:03:12Vipul Bindra: That's different.
- 1:03:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's a 20-hour job now, not a 10-hour job, right?
- 1:03:16Vipul Bindra: So so it's it's people don't uh account for that.
- 1:03:18Vipul Bindra: I find that in our industry, it's common to not charge for that, and that's why they end up shortchanging themselves or not charge for it.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: And if you don't charge for it, you still charge for it.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Indirectly, yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: You know, so it's like okay, your your day rate's 1200, but then you work spent three days, now you divide that by three, now you really made like 500 a day or like 300 a day.
- 1:03:38Vipul Bindra: And that's why I'm like, I I only do day rate stuff for friends.
- 1:03:40Vipul Bindra: I don't, that's why I go to the clients because it there's just not value in it.
- 1:03:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's because uh and again, no offense, it's just of course uh because what I'm bringing on said would be 10x the price, right?
- 1:03:53Vipul Bindra: You know, like I I worked with a sound guy recently, and I'm like amazing kid, amazing guy.
- 1:03:57Vipul Bindra: But then I was like, I am bringing better equipment than him for about the same money, plus I'm bringing cameras, yeah, lighting, grip, I'm bringing everything.
- 1:04:07Vipul Bindra: If I was to do I'm saying a day-based thing, I'm like, dude, I'm basically charging sound guy rate, and I'm bringing not only better sound, but I'm bringing all the whole rest of the production, which costs even more because you know, like lighting camera is also expensive.
- 1:04:20Vipul Bindra: But what I'm saying is like, I'm like, huh.
- 1:04:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I mean, not that that guy was doing wrong.
- 1:04:25Vipul Bindra: I'm not saying at all that what the sound guy's charging or or bringing is wrong.
- 1:04:28Vipul Bindra: It's just like saying the value that you're giving at some point is is incorrect.
- 1:04:32Vipul Bindra: Yeah, right?
- 1:04:32Vipul Bindra: But then I'm like, oh, I helped a friend.
- 1:04:34Vipul Bindra: Uh, but to to be real, there's the other side of it.
- 1:04:38Vipul Bindra: Uh, I had a gig where a friend recently tapped me in.
- 1:04:41Vipul Bindra: He was like, hey, uh, you want to come help me baby this camera?
- 1:04:45Vipul Bindra: And I'm like, Oh, let me recommend you a few people, right?
- 1:04:49Vipul Bindra: Because that's not what I want to do.
- 1:04:50Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:04:50Vipul Bindra: But then he's like, hey, I'll give you uh, you know, X number rate.
- 1:04:53Vipul Bindra: And then I go, you know what?
- 1:04:54Vipul Bindra: You're telling me I don't have to bring anything.
- 1:04:56Vipul Bindra: I clarified.
- 1:04:57Vipul Bindra: I was like, you're telling me I will get up, I will show up, nothing in my because no, that's not normal for me.
- 1:05:02Vipul Bindra: He was like, Yeah, I was like, okay, you know what?
- 1:05:04Vipul Bindra: I'll do it.
- 1:05:05Vipul Bindra: Because if you're telling me I have no expenses, then a lower rate makes more sense.
- 1:05:10Vipul Bindra: Because guess what?
- 1:05:11Vipul Bindra: I have no prep time, I have no call time.
- 1:05:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah, uh, you he's already done all that.
- 1:05:16Vipul Bindra: All I'm doing is just going up on set, making sure I bring my skill, and that's still value for them because I can help them put a light somewhere or whatever.
- 1:05:24Vipul Bindra: There's something you know that they need help with.
- 1:05:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:05:26Vipul Bindra: Point is it's value for them, but it's value for me because um I had zero investment in it.
- 1:05:32Vipul Bindra: So even though it's a lower number, so that's why I might also tell people like be flexible because if it it depends on what you're doing, is your worth.
- 1:05:40Vipul Bindra: Now, not every job is that 10 grand job, right?
- 1:05:42Vipul Bindra: Of course, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah, uh, but but for my clients, I'm gonna do way more for 10 grand.
- 1:05:47Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but it would be silly for me to be like, yeah, give me 10 grand for being a camera operator, where I would have to do that.
- 1:05:52Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.
- 1:05:54Vipul Bindra: So you just have to plug in and play, and then that's where the network comes in, right?
- 1:05:57Vipul Bindra: You plug each other into each other's jobs and you all grow together and you all work together.
- 1:06:03Vipul Bindra: And I think that's this the the right way to move in this industry, especially what we do, because the narrative world is very different than what we do.
- 1:06:13Vipul Bindra: But what we do, corporate and commercial video, yeah, you can make a very healthy living.
- 1:06:17Vipul Bindra: You're a prime example of that.
- 1:06:19Vipul Bindra: You came in completely different.
- 1:06:21Vipul Bindra: I mean, not that you didn't know anything about video being as a stand-up comedian.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I know a little bit, but yeah, not nowhere near what I know now.
- 1:06:27Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:06:28Vipul Bindra: But within a couple of years you've been able to scale your business to where you're trending to hit 300k.
- 1:06:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:06:34Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 1:06:34Vipul Bindra: Which is and you're making what 2K you would say average day rate would be where you're trying to aim for.
- 1:06:39Vipul Bindra: Look at that.
- 1:06:40Vipul Bindra: And that's doable because and I know you're not gonna maybe like this, yeah, not because of your uh filmmaking skills, but because of your smarts in business.
- 1:06:50Vipul Bindra: Because you know what how to approach people, yeah, how to sell them on projects, and then how to execute them.
- 1:06:58Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:59Vipul Bindra: The execution part is there, not to cut that the skill.
- 1:07:02Vipul Bindra: You've been on my sets.
- 1:07:03Vipul Bindra: I love uh yeah, you I know what you're capable of, but what I'm saying is, but you got there because you knew how to execute, right, how to learn, how to get all that done.
- 1:07:11Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and I think that's the most valuable skill people can have.
- 1:07:16Vipul Bindra: It's how to get those clients, how to close those clients, how to treat them right, how to how to uh get them what they want, whatever that is.
- 1:07:23Vipul Bindra: Whatever that is, yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:25Vipul Bindra: Help them find what they want, and then you don't know, and then I think the skills follow.
- 1:07:28Vipul Bindra: Like you said, you didn't know what you know now, yeah, right?
- 1:07:32Vipul Bindra: That you you can acquire, like right, you acquired, or I can find somebody who knows it.
- 1:07:36Vipul Bindra: Exactly, right?
- 1:07:37Vipul Bindra: Uh and I think that is a very doable thing.
- 1:07:39Vipul Bindra: That's where people focus on, and that's where I'm like, we have I'm not selling no courses, we're not trying to, you know, make any money from this, it's just a passion project because I want people to listen from people who are in the ground, we make money from making videos, not making YouTube videos.
- 1:07:54Vipul Bindra: And uh the goal being is to just to let people know, like, hey, operating a camera and all those skills matter, but people value them too much.
- 1:08:05Vipul Bindra: They go straight into let me uh buy this course and I will somehow make a living.
- 1:08:09Vipul Bindra: Can you have a conversation with somebody?
- 1:08:11Vipul Bindra: You know, yeah, I think you're better off going and meeting people who are actually making a living, having coffee, meeting industry people.
- 1:08:18Vipul Bindra: And I think uh David introduced me to Tommy Beal.
- 1:08:21Vipul Bindra: Have you heard of him?
- 1:08:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I've heard of it.
- 1:08:22Vipul Bindra: So he was a guy uh who was who tracked his journey through one year on YouTube, um, and David um Morfield he recommended you know his YouTube channel, whatever.
- 1:08:32Vipul Bindra: And what I liked about uh, you know, I didn't follow every video, but what I watched was uh uh he did it for a year, it you know, made his business improve.
- 1:08:40Vipul Bindra: But his last video was like he he kind of quit almost YouTube because he was like, I got 20% business from YouTube, and obviously there was indirect benefits, but most of his, I think 30-40 percent, whatever the the numbers are, income came from quite literally uh meeting networking events.
- 1:08:57Vipul Bindra: So three networking events gave him more value than 45, 50 YouTube videos.
- 1:09:02Vipul Bindra: So it's like why not do 10?
- 1:09:04Vipul Bindra: Why don't you go out?
- 1:09:04Vipul Bindra: And that's what he said.
- 1:09:05Vipul Bindra: What am I gonna do?
- 1:09:06Vipul Bindra: I'm gonna go network more and meet people.
- 1:09:08Vipul Bindra: So I think that was really cool to see for some people.
- 1:09:11Vipul Bindra: I'm saying whoever was following him, because it's like the value in meeting people who they can either hire you or connect with other people who can hire you, or just teach you these skills.
- 1:09:21Vipul Bindra: Because if you know how to talk to a client, you know how to find their need and fulfill their need, you will be successful.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: You know, uh a quote that I've been working on, kind of like my my mission statement for my business is and for any business, is say what you're supposed to say, be where you're supposed to be, and do what you're supposed to do.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: And uh the reason I picked those three is because like when I say say what you're supposed to say, like you have to be a good communicator.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_01: If you want to be in business, you gotta be able to understand what somebody's saying and communicate effectively that you're gonna execute on their idea, right?
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: Be where you're supposed to be.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: The biggest reason clients come to me is that I'm everywhere.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_01: Like my business is on every platform, my SEO is optimized, my website looks nice, I'm in the circles networking with people.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of people.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm in a I have a lot of opportunities for people to find me.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: A lot of people, they're just like, oh yeah, I just like I post it on Facebook and that's it.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: You gotta be wherever you're if you're a plumber, get on Google.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_01: If you're uh a dancer, you gotta be talking to the dancing schools or something like that.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_01: And then um do what you're supposed to do.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: Be good at your work.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: If you're good at your work and you know how to um how to use your equipment, your tools effectively, you have all three of those.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think there's it's inevitable that you're you're successful.
- 1:10:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, or find people.
- 1:10:43Vipul Bindra: And if you're not there, then find the people who are there, yeah.
- 1:10:46Vipul Bindra: And talk to them, hang out with them, right?
- 1:10:48Vipul Bindra: Get in those circles.
- 1:10:49Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:10:50Vipul Bindra: I think that's so much more valuable than anything else.
- 1:10:53Vipul Bindra: And at the end of the day, I think also just have fun.
- 1:10:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: Definitely have fun.
- 1:10:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, because a lot of people get you might as well work as an accountant if you're not gonna have fun.
- 1:11:01Vipul Bindra: Exactly.
- 1:11:01Vipul Bindra: It's like what what we do is kind of fun and creative and just and in general, just be around, you know, cool people.
- 1:11:07Vipul Bindra: So be a cool person, like you said last season.
- 1:11:09Vipul Bindra: No, don't be a weirdo.
- 1:11:11Vipul Bindra: Don't be a weirdo.
- 1:11:12Vipul Bindra: That's that's the quote.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: Do not be weird.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of people I I have not hired because I'm like, you're weird.
- 1:11:17Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: We don't want that on set.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: At least hold it in until the shoot's over.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_01: Hold it weird in.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, keep the weird in until like until we say that's a wrap.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: Jeez.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 1:11:30Vipul Bindra: But I think also uh uh focusing on other people's, you know, uh like businesses too.
- 1:11:36Vipul Bindra: There's a lot, sure, apertures, you know, shuttering or whatever, all that matters, but when you're helping someone, they're most likely need wanting you because you're they want to sell, I don't know, more more of their food or their product or service, whatever that that you're promoting through these videos is.
- 1:11:54Vipul Bindra: A lot of people just listen and then they go straight into it'll be cool to do a shot of smoke away or punch in or whatever.
- 1:12:00Vipul Bindra: And you're like, for a minute, you have to slow down and go, what is it that they're selling?
- 1:12:05Vipul Bindra: Who is gonna buy it?
- 1:12:07Vipul Bindra: Do they care about a punch-in or a smoke in?
- 1:12:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's like how is that telling a better story?
- 1:12:12Vipul Bindra: Now that could be important if it's part of the story.
- 1:12:14Vipul Bindra: I think that's what a lot of people miss.
- 1:12:16Vipul Bindra: They're like, uh, what is the story element?
- 1:12:18Vipul Bindra: Right, why would they buy it?
- 1:12:20Vipul Bindra: And if you can solve that, if you could just stop and listen for a second, I think it's so much easier to do what we do.
- 1:12:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I think just most people just listen five words and then just run for it.
- 1:12:30Vipul Bindra: Just run for it, yeah.
- 1:12:31Vipul Bindra: And then the other thing is just I think being able to say no, because it's not a bad thing to say or hear no.
- 1:12:37Vipul Bindra: Some people just get butt hurt about hearing no.
- 1:12:40Vipul Bindra: I don't I I don't know why, because you're not gonna get every client.
- 1:12:45Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:12:45Vipul Bindra: So I don't know.
- 1:12:47Vipul Bindra: And I get it, it's a human nature to not not like being rejected.
- 1:12:50Vipul Bindra: But at the end of the day, I'm like, I if I listen to someone, I give them a solution, and um, and I know you say sales, but I genuinely like if I'm saying something that's what I believe in, it then it's not sales to me.
- 1:13:02Vipul Bindra: But they may think, oh, they just want to sell me five because you know if they're a new client, they don't know me yet, right?
- 1:13:08Vipul Bindra: Um so so they may say, Oh no, I'm I'm I'm gonna go with this other option.
- 1:13:13Vipul Bindra: And it's like it's okay, yeah.
- 1:13:15Vipul Bindra: Awesome, good luck.
- 1:13:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what I do.
- 1:13:17Vipul Bindra: I'm like, that's that's fine with me.
- 1:13:20Vipul Bindra: Because uh at the end of the day, I'm happy that they're getting what they want.
- 1:13:23Vipul Bindra: Yeah, either they're gonna get what they want and they're gonna be very happy, which is good for me because I want nothing but success for them.
- 1:13:29Vipul Bindra: Uh obviously, ideally through me, but if not, and then the th the other thing would be they don't get what they wanted, and then they call me right back and say, Hey, maybe we made a mistake.
- 1:13:39Vipul Bindra: Let's do it.
- 1:13:40Vipul Bindra: And I'm like, let's do it.
- 1:13:41Vipul Bindra: I don't have that hypowery feeling because some people will go, Oh, you rejected me first time.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: I'm not working with you now, you know.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think it's that deep.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: The way I look at no and yes, yes is uh it's weird, like yes is more of an isolationist word because once you say yes to something, that's that you're locked into that that world, versus when you say no, you leave your possibilities open, you know.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_01: That's kind of how I look at yes and no, so that I don't that way my feelings don't get hurt.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_01: Somebody's like, no, you suck.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, okay, that means I have infinite options to to play with, you know?
- 1:14:11Vipul Bindra: Yeah, no, but but I want to come back to so let's let's switch gears.
- 1:14:14Vipul Bindra: I really like what you said a few minutes back, that you are where your clients, so everyone can find you.
- 1:14:19Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:14:20Vipul Bindra: How did you achieve that?
- 1:14:21Vipul Bindra: What you do to to make sure people can find you?
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, it's it's been a long process.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_01: I think um, I mean, one, I I know a lot of people, that's probably the biggest thing, you know.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_01: So, like, I went to the filmmaker.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: I remember the first filmmaker meetup that they had.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_01: I was like, um, I'm kind of tired, I don't want to go, but I'm like, you don't know anybody.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: You gotta go.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_01: So I went, and I think that's where I met you, Emmanuel, David.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_01: Like, I met like the core people that I know, and then that network kind of spread.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_01: Um, I designed a dope, dope ass website.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_01: Website's fire.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: Can we pull his website up, Martin?
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: Snap.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, hey, oh, snap.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_00: We're getting crazy.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: Uh badashfilms.com.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_01: Uh I was gonna say ash because people like uh yeah, built a nice website.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_01: Uh I paid to get it at SEO optimized.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm like anywhere that all the freelancer platforms, I'm I'm all all of those.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_01: They don't really get me as much, but I think because I'm the way uh the internet works is you have to you have to build a trust factor with your brand.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: So the more places you are, if you're on blogs, you're on websites, your SEO is optimized, you have an Instagram, Facebook, everything, now your brand has more trust on the internet, so it ranks higher on SEO.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: You know, so right.
- 1:15:40Mario Rangel: Look at that.
- 1:15:41Mario Rangel: Let's see.
- 1:15:41Mario Rangel: I haven't looked at my website.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_01: I haven't looked at my website.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_01: Sheeshboard shoes, jeans.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, nothing crazy, nothing crazy.
- 1:15:54Vipul Bindra: Is this anything with R's yet?
- 1:15:55Vipul Bindra: Or no?
- 1:15:56Vipul Bindra: This is our a year ago.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_01: You know, clean cut website.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean, you know?
- 1:16:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:16:07Vipul Bindra: So who did you hire?
- 1:16:08Vipul Bindra: Did you go to like Fiverr or some other SEO?
- 1:16:11Vipul Bindra: I'm talking about.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_01: My brother's a web developer.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_01: So he did the SEO for you.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:14Vipul Bindra: How much do you think it would cost for someone if they wanted to do SEO?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: Um, it depends.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: It depends on like how complicated you want to go.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_01: Because like he he was gonna add like a bunch of blogs and stuff to my website.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to do all that.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and he gave it to me for free because he loves me.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it just depends on how how big your website is.
- 1:16:32Vipul Bindra: So have you tested it?
- 1:16:33Vipul Bindra: Do you actually go into the analytics of it?
- 1:16:35Vipul Bindra: What number do you come up with?
- 1:16:36Vipul Bindra: If somebody googles video production in Orlando.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_01: I haven't test so on that front, I haven't tested it.
- 1:16:41Vipul Bindra: Google it.
- 1:16:42Vipul Bindra: Google video production in Orlando.
- 1:16:43Vipul Bindra: Don't change it to it.
- 1:16:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:16:45Vipul Bindra: Because they have ads and stuff.
- 1:16:46Vipul Bindra: But see if badass films come on the first page.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: Because a lot of my clients who I've talked to recently, they they say they found me on online.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, either found me on Google or like different search engines and stuff like that.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_01: So, like majority right now, like about 50% has been.
- 1:17:02Vipul Bindra: So, how do you approach that?
- 1:17:03Vipul Bindra: So, that's a very good thing.
- 1:17:04Vipul Bindra: So, let's say they found you in Google, they call you.
- 1:17:06Vipul Bindra: What's an average call look like for you?
- 1:17:09Vipul Bindra: What do they average call?
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_01: Um, usually, like, hey, how's uh usually they send me an email?
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: It's usually through email first.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_01: Hey, I'm looking for this.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, uh, you're free for a call.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_01: I try to I try to get a call within the next 24 hours.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_01: If you wait too long, they can think, they can look at more people.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_01: Honestly, what I really do is I call them as soon as they send me the email.
- 1:17:27Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you're like getting on the phone.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: Because that's the thing I realized, like speed matters more than anything.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_01: So it's like if you give them too much time to think, the price might go down, or they'll find somebody else.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_01: So they'll give me an email, hey Sean, uh I saw your website, I love this project.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_01: I'm looking for something just like that.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_01: Um, I want and they're always like, What's the rate?
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I'm not about to just give you a rate over the city.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_01: So how do you answer that?
- 1:17:47Vipul Bindra: Because that'd be a biggest a lot of people will have that.
- 1:17:50Vipul Bindra: Because a lot of people just think, you know, it's like buying another thing, which is not.
- 1:17:53Vipul Bindra: It's not, it's like buying art, which is complicated.
- 1:17:55Vipul Bindra: It's complicated.
- 1:17:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:17:56Vipul Bindra: So how do you tackle that question?
- 1:17:58Vipul Bindra: Like, what's your rate?
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, usually I'm like, well, I like to get on a call first and figure out what exactly you're looking for because this project, it took me a few days, different camera equipment.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_01: I gotta figure out what your needs are.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_01: So are you free within the next couple hours for a quick phone call?
- 1:18:13Vipul Bindra: If you're sending me an email, let's say you're on the phone call.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_01: I'm on the phone.
- 1:18:15Vipul Bindra: They say what's your rate, but you have no idea yet, right?
- 1:18:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:18:18Vipul Bindra: So how are you gonna answer them?
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_01: What are you looking for?
- 1:18:21Vipul Bindra: So do you say like the rates depend on what you're looking for?
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_01: I just ask, like, what do you I I don't even say it depends on what you're doing?
- 1:18:27Vipul Bindra: I wanna I want a three-minute video for my company website.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_01: You want a three-minute video?
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_01: How much is that gonna cost?
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_01: Are we am I filming it or you just want us to edit your video?
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_01: No, you're you're filming it.
- 1:18:37Vipul Bindra: You do everything.
- 1:18:37Vipul Bindra: I don't know anything.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_01: So, what's the project?
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_01: What do you what do you uh what's the what are we filming?
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about video.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: So what's I guess what's your industry?
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm a real estate agent.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_01: You're a real estate agent?
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you're looking for like um like a highlight video for a home, a brand piece for your brand.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that a highlight video for a home?
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_01: No, for for me.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, for you, yeah.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_01: Have you ever done anything like that before?
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_01: No idea.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_01: No idea at all.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, and you want a three-minute video.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_01: Um, you have any examples of other people?
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_01: You have nothing at all.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so why are you looking for the video?
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_00: Where is this coming from?
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_00: I know I'm thinking on Instagram before you call me.
- 1:19:14Vipul Bindra: I'm making I'm making it too difficult on you.
- 1:19:17Vipul Bindra: But no, I get the idea.
- 1:19:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:19Vipul Bindra: See, I I like what you're doing.
- 1:19:20Vipul Bindra: I I think the point of this was people will panic and they give a number.
- 1:19:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:24Vipul Bindra: Okay, I can't give it a number.
- 1:19:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but the thing is, you that's arbitrary.
- 1:19:27Vipul Bindra: I feel like my advice to my clients is if somebody just gives you a number, you run.
- 1:19:31Vipul Bindra: It's the opposite of other things.
- 1:19:33Vipul Bindra: Like, you know, if I go to buy a product, I want a price immediately.
- 1:19:36Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:19:37Vipul Bindra: Because otherwise I'm like something shady.
- 1:19:38Vipul Bindra: It's the opposite here.
- 1:19:39Vipul Bindra: If somebody gives you a price, because they're like, what is the price for?
- 1:19:42Vipul Bindra: Right, right, right.
- 1:19:43Vipul Bindra: You know what you're making, how many days or hours, or whatever you need.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: And I've been on some like the call, like the fake call we just did.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_01: I've been on some calls like that where like they just do not want to give me any details, but they they want a number more than anything.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_01: And I physically cannot give you a number.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_01: You know, I feel like a liar if I just like, oh yeah, okay.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: Because I I have in the past where I've given a number and then I shoot myself in the foot in the long run, or I'm like, damn, I shouldn't have said I didn't know it was gonna be this complicated.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: So I really the the biggest thing on the calls is like, what are you looking for?
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_01: Trying to figure out what the day is gonna look like.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_01: How cinematic of a video are you looking for?
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_01: Is it something real simple?
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_01: Social media, do you want 10 videos?
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: Is it one three-minute or 10 30-second videos?
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_01: Like, what are we trying to do?
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_01: And get them to come up with the answer that way.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_01: I can say, You said I put that all in the contract, I have the scope of work, and like you said that this is what you're looking for, and this is what I'm gonna do.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_01: Now here's a number.
- 1:20:40Vipul Bindra: So let's talk.
- 1:20:41Vipul Bindra: Uh, any recent projects that you did, you don't have to give the exact project, but I would love for you to break down on I charge and it doesn't have to be exact number, like I charge them 10 grand.
- 1:20:49Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:20:49Vipul Bindra: This is what the breakdown, let's how first you presented to the client, and then how you actually broke down as a producer, you know, the budget.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_01: Um, well, I had a uh uh recent the commercial project that the client reached out to me for.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_01: He um originally his budget was like I think like a couple thousand dollars, and but then he showed me an example.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_01: So I I love getting examples, examples are the best.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_01: Um, once he showed me an example, I was like, I'm like, oh yeah, you need a way higher budget than that.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_01: He's like, okay, yeah, well, let me know what the budget looks like.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_01: So I went through, uh, calculated the budget and then put together like what the team looks like.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of how I use that to calculate the budget.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, okay, I need a half a day for the um shot list, director, gaffer, producer, assistant director, AC, um, lighting, all this type of stuff.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_01: But I knew like because his original budget was only a couple thousand, I can't hit him with a$50,000 album.
- 1:21:43Vipul Bindra: That wouldn't make sense.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_01: That wouldn't make sense, you know.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_01: Like I already know you probably can't afford nothing like that, but maybe you can afford around 10 to 15, you know.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I tried to keep everyone's race with within that range.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_01: Um, and then I pitched it to him basically, hey, like um looked at everything.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_01: If you want something of that quality, which I think you deserve because of the product that you're pushing out, you would want to have something of that quality.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_01: You don't want to cheap out on it.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_01: Um, this is what the price looks like.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_01: And he was like, Oh, okay, yeah, it makes sense.
- 1:22:10Vipul Bindra: So, what would that price be?
- 1:22:12Vipul Bindra: And then how would you break it down?
- 1:22:14Vipul Bindra: And your so to the customer, uh client, whatever, what sort of rough price point you'd say on this commercial would be?
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_01: On this one, um, so right now it's around around 12.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_01: So let's say 12.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:24Vipul Bindra: So now let's see the internal side of it.
- 1:22:26Vipul Bindra: I want people to see the producer brain.
- 1:22:27Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:22:28Vipul Bindra: You've given 12 clients says yes.
- 1:22:30Vipul Bindra: How would you roughly break it down?
- 1:22:32Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:22:32Vipul Bindra: And what kind of uh profit are you looking for?
- 1:22:35Vipul Bindra: Um obviously it's not your rate.
- 1:22:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you have your rate, and then the company.
- 1:22:39Vipul Bindra: Right, right, right.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_01: I all of them, it's all on my Excel spreadsheet, but I think the biggest thing was like we have the pre-production side, which was like probably I I'll do it in percentages.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_01: Um, pre-production was probably about 10 to 15% of the entire time to plan it, plan, everything calls, everything.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all of that.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_01: And then the production side was like around 70%.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_01: Makes sense.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_01: It's the most expensive side.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_01: I guess the most expensive side.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_01: And then the last part was an additional 15% for the for the edit.
- 1:23:08Vipul Bindra: For the post.
- 1:23:09Vipul Bindra: And then now what can you pull in?
- 1:23:12Vipul Bindra: Because uh, you know, obviously the more you do, the more you can pull in for yourself.
- 1:23:15Vipul Bindra: Are you gonna do the edit yourself?
- 1:23:16Vipul Bindra: Are you gonna put it to the stuff?
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna edit, but I'm gonna have someone else do the color color grade.
- 1:23:21Vipul Bindra: You're gonna pull that that you're gonna off offset, but you can keep that post wrap because you're gonna edit yourself, right?
- 1:23:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, what about the production?
- 1:23:29Vipul Bindra: Are you gonna be able to do anything in household?
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_01: I just have my uh director's rate and then all of the um like the ins because I have insurances and stuff built in.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_01: I pay for that, but it's kind of like coming to me in a way.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_01: Um and then the pre-production rate.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 1:23:45Vipul Bindra: That's pretty good healthy margin.
- 1:23:47Vipul Bindra: So you'd say what?
- 1:23:48Vipul Bindra: What would be uh percent wise that you think you could for me?
- 1:23:50Vipul Bindra: Uh about you in the end, you can get it.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_01: Uh probably about 15, 15.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 1:23:55Vipul Bindra: And that's not accounting for post, right?
- 1:23:56Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:23:57Vipul Bindra: So once you add post and the pre-production, you're looking at what a healthy 45% margin, you'd say?
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I probably want to say maybe 40?
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_01: I think like 30.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_01: 30.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_01: Because right now, the thing I'm running into, um, as I so I the way I have the I have the budget, I have my Excel spreadsheet, I have the budget lined up, um, what I budgeted for, what the client expects, and then I have my total spent category for like what each category actually costs.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_01: So, like, let's say I have uh a DP and like I budgeted for$1,200, but he's like, hey, I'm 18.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_01: So now I gotta add him to the total spent 18.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_01: So now I gotta find somewhere else to take off$300 to bring it to make it all add up to$12,400.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_01: So I think that's what I'm running into now is like and it's at the end of the day, my budget is the least important, my pay.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_01: So like, like hey, if I gotta pay this guy an extra$300 to get a better quality DP, I'll take$300 out of my rate and add it to theirs.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_01: You know, so like it brings my percentage down from$40 down to 30.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_01: So I'm probably gonna end up with around 20, 20, 20 to 30, which is fine.
- 1:25:02Vipul Bindra: 20 to 40 is the standard, right?
- 1:25:04Vipul Bindra: So that that's that's pretty good.
- 1:25:05Vipul Bindra: And I the reason is I want people to hear because like people think 10 grand, they think, oh, 10 grand.
- 1:25:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:25:11Vipul Bindra: It's like not actually 10 grand once you, you know, and to make a good video, that's why it costs money.
- 1:25:16Vipul Bindra: You know, you need people, you need groups.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, dude, I I've done a couple 10 10,000 projects where I'm like, I only made like a thousand.
- 1:25:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you know, I mean, uh, that may be a little on the low side, but yeah, but I guess.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_01: That's when I first started, you know.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_01: So it's like, okay,$10,000 project.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh, I got a chance to make something super crazy.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_01: See, that, yeah, if you're doing a portfolio piece, it's okay sometimes.
- 1:25:35Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:25:35Vipul Bindra: I know our friends who'll even uh take a loss, but but it was worth it because if you got 50 grand in projects from it, right, and you haven't done anything like that, then be worth it.
- 1:25:44Vipul Bindra: Now you don't tell the client.
- 1:25:46Vipul Bindra: Of course, of course.
- 1:25:46Vipul Bindra: You know, you you book it, but now you go over, right?
- 1:25:48Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, let me just bring in that happen, a little sauce on it too that you wouldn't you don't have the budget for, right?
- 1:25:55Vipul Bindra: But to take it to the next level, right?
- 1:25:57Vipul Bindra: No, I I think that's very smart.
- 1:25:59Vipul Bindra: Um now uh coming to the other side of it, how how's things at at home, personal life?
- 1:26:05Vipul Bindra: How are you managing with family with all this extra workload that you added?
- 1:26:09Vipul Bindra: Honestly, I don't work that much.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I'd be chilling, man.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_01: Lazy shit.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_01: I am lazy.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_01: Um, so when I first started, I was working all the time, which I think was good.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_01: When you're when you're getting your your uh your gas going, your engine going, you gotta really just hit the ground running.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_01: Uh so I was working all the time.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_01: I'm working any job I can get.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_01: If it's a$200 job,$500 job, if it's free, like I was just doing everything, so I was busy.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_01: Um, now a big reason why I I've also wanted to increase my rate is because I kind of like hearing no now, because no means I have my time, you know.
- 1:26:45SPEAKER_01: But if I get a yes, I only need one yes to compensate for seven yeses two years ago.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_01: So back in the day, I need seven$500 jobs versus I only need like two$2,000 jobs and I'm good.
- 1:26:56SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:26:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, especially the smaller jobs, I'm sure.
- 1:26:59Vipul Bindra: Obviously$10,000, you gotta spend more, but on those few thousand dollar carpet type of job, yeah, uh you can make more profit because I can make more you, right?
- 1:27:08Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:27:08Vipul Bindra: Are you doing any jobs like that in a still that where it's just you?
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_01: You're doing all of it, like you know, sounds like not really what's your minimum that you aim for nowadays?
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, like a total budget for a client?
- 1:27:20SPEAKER_01: Uh minimum, usually probably like around 35 to 4,000.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_01: That way I can at least have one other person to help out.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:27:27Vipul Bindra: You and an assistant, and then you can get healthy profit up once you take their money.
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, but a lot of times, like if I'm being real, I like working with my friends.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_01: So like I work at Oliver a lot.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_01: So I'm just like, all right, cool, I'm I'm gonna get Oliver on this shoe.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_01: Even if I'm making less money, at least I get my friend working with me.
- 1:27:42Vipul Bindra: And that's the networking side of it, right?
- 1:27:44Vipul Bindra: And I'm sure then he does a repeat, right?
- 1:27:46Vipul Bindra: He's gonna be saying, exactly.
- 1:27:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, be able to bring you on instead.
- 1:27:49Vipul Bindra: But yeah, it may not justify, but then you're like, hey, right, it makes sense because he's gonna bring me.
- 1:27:54Vipul Bindra: You know, again, yeah, you're helping each other, yeah.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I'm like, any sh any shoe that happens, like, well, like I'll just it has to be two people.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I don't like working by myself.
- 1:28:02Vipul Bindra: Yeah, no, it's it's very difficult.
- 1:28:03Vipul Bindra: So that but that's a pretty good range that you have there.
- 1:28:06Vipul Bindra: What's the highest project you've done so far?
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_01: Highest, I think, was I think by the end of it, like 15, 15,000.
- 1:28:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 1:28:14Vipul Bindra: That's pretty good for one video, or is that for multiple?
- 1:28:18Vipul Bindra: One video, yeah.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_01: $15,000 video.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_01: That's pretty good.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_01: Not too bad.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_01: And you've been traveling a lot too, right?
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a little bit of travel.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_01: Um lately.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_01: I'm going to next week, two weeks from now, I'm going to Ohio.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_01: Then I'm going to a shoot in Las Vegas, and then I have another shoot in Ohio again in August.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_01: How'd you get these jobs?
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_01: These are just networking.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_01: Just networking?
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_01: So these are old clients that I work with that they just want to find me out.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 1:28:44Vipul Bindra: All right.
- 1:28:44Vipul Bindra: Anything else uh that you learned in the last six months?
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_01: In the last six months since I want to talk about NAB, but yeah.
- 1:28:51Vipul Bindra: Oh yeah.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_01: But let's in the last six months, not really.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_01: I'm always I'm always learning.
- 1:28:58SPEAKER_01: So it's like I'm I'm just constantly trying to build my skill level up.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_01: So like like right now, I've been leaning more into the director side of things.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_01: I know Orlando isn't the best place to grow as a director, um, but it's something I've it's my passion more than being a DP.
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_01: Um, especially coming from a comedy background, sketch comedy.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_01: I love storytelling.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_01: I'm always writing.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_01: Um, so right now I've been, I guess that's the biggest thing I'm learning, like trying to learn how to be a better director.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_01: So with the commercial that we're shooting in a few weeks, uh, I'll be directing it.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_01: I've already the casting is pretty much done for the most part.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_01: Uh just got a location.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_01: So now I'm like, all right, cool.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_01: I gotta sit and direct the team.
- 1:29:37SPEAKER_01: And you know, that's it.
- 1:29:38Vipul Bindra: You gotta figure out which is the the main thing, right?
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_01: You're you're like the puppet master, right?
- 1:29:43SPEAKER_01: And even now, like with the cast we have, I'm like, I got their auditions and like some of their acting is okay, some some is really good, but it's like, all right, I gotta, I gotta figure out how to get you where I need you to go.
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_01: And that's what excites me more than anything.
- 1:29:56Vipul Bindra: So let's talk about uh NAB.
- 1:29:59Vipul Bindra: So I know you went this year, uh, because that's where you've you said you got your or talked to DZ about your R's, right?
- 1:30:05Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:30:06Vipul Bindra: So what made you wanna go?
- 1:30:07Vipul Bindra: It was that your first industry conference?
- 1:30:09Vipul Bindra: Yes, first time.
- 1:30:10Vipul Bindra: So what made you want to go to NAB?
- 1:30:12Vipul Bindra: My friends were there?
- 1:30:14Vipul Bindra: Makes it easier.
- 1:30:14Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:15Vipul Bindra: So uh what would you say you got because you know you you you weren't sponsored or anything, right?
- 1:30:19Vipul Bindra: You went with your own money, yeah.
- 1:30:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah, own money.
- 1:30:20Vipul Bindra: So would you say you got the value out of it?
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_01: And then what would that value be?
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I did get I did get some value out of it.
- 1:30:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, it wasn't that much money to go.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_01: So how many did you people were were you guys?
- 1:30:32SPEAKER_01: I was like 12 of them.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_01: 12.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_01: Wow, so big group, big group.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_01: So the Airbnb was cheap.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, the tickets, I think we got them for free.
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, yeah.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_01: So biggest thing I got would I would say, I mean, I never put my hands on an Ari camera.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_01: So I guess, oh okay, I get to play with an Ari, you know, or I get to see, I saw the DZO lenses.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and I met a lot of really cool people of from lots of different backgrounds, whether it's DP, Gaffer, Grips, people from all over the country.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, I met someone who he's a professional musician and he does like music scoring for videos and stuff like that.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_01: And he's like probably one of the best that I've ever seen.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_01: He's he's good, you know.
- 1:31:11SPEAKER_01: So, like, to I think the networking was the biggest thing I gained from it to know people from all over the country.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_01: That's that's invaluable.
- 1:31:18Vipul Bindra: So, would you recommend to someone who's like maybe new or or you know been in the industry a few years to visit an industry conference?
- 1:31:24Vipul Bindra: It doesn't have to be NAB.
- 1:31:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah, they're sitting here.
- 1:31:26Vipul Bindra: There's there's a lot of conferences, but would you would you recommend it?
- 1:31:29Vipul Bindra: And what would you say would be the right approach?
- 1:31:32SPEAKER_01: I think I'd recommend it if you know how to connect with people.
- 1:31:35SPEAKER_01: If you don't know how to connect with people, figure that out here first and then go.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_01: Um, I I network all the time and I don't look at it like a job networking, but like, hey, how you doing?
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_01: What's up, man?
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_01: Like try to get to know people.
- 1:31:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, if you're like that kind of person or you can figure out how to be that kind of person, yeah, go shake hands.
- 1:31:52SPEAKER_01: Well, we met um, you know, Shane Halbert.
- 1:31:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_01: Um, so we're standing there and Oliver just asking for a quick photo.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_01: And he's like, he just started talking to us for an hour and just talking to us about like different projects he's working on, his uh his course and everything.
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_01: And then he invites us to his private party after NAV.
- 1:32:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that we're hanging out with like him, his family, other people inside of his course.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_01: He like he took a picture, gave me a hug and stuff.
- 1:32:16SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, this is crazy.
- 1:32:17Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and this is the good thing about our industry.
- 1:32:20Vipul Bindra: So even though you may go, you know, this DP, yeah, or this the thing is, we're not that famous, we're not like we, I'm saying people in our industry are not like even the famous people are not like celebrities, right?
- 1:32:32Vipul Bindra: So it's not a factor you can approach famous DPs and directors, and usually you can have a conversation and they're really chill.
- 1:32:38Vipul Bindra: He approached us for most of the things exactly.
- 1:32:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I was like, yeah, they love because we they love what they do and they want to talk about it, right?
- 1:32:44Vipul Bindra: They don't have that typical celebrity factor where they're like, oh yeah, get away from me.
- 1:32:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:32:49Vipul Bindra: Yeah, which is so cool because you now you can talk to industry experts and leaders without having that that you know pushback.
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's why I I think for anybody that wanted to go, I would say go because you never know.
- 1:32:59SPEAKER_01: You might bump so because like we just mainly had a conversation, we hung out with him afterwards, but it could have turned into like a oh, we became tight.
- 1:33:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, and then next and you never know next time when you go.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_01: He's up here again.
- 1:33:11SPEAKER_01: What's going on, man?
- 1:33:11SPEAKER_01: Like, yo, you want to come to the house for dinner?
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, ah, yeah.
- 1:33:14SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of hungry.
- 1:33:16Vipul Bindra: What are you feeding?
- 1:33:18SPEAKER_00: What do you guys have?
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_00: You guys make a steak.
- 1:33:21Vipul Bindra: So uh what about brands?
- 1:33:23Vipul Bindra: Was there any value in meeting any brands or anything?
- 1:33:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, I I have a connection at DZio now, so you know that was pretty cool.
- 1:33:29SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 1:33:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think they give you a discount on the lenses too, just for that.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I can't talk about that.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, it's delete that.
- 1:33:37SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:33:38SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, you know, like I I I met the DZO people, but I noticed a lot of the people around um at NAB, they know a lot of they know other industry leaders.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_01: So like the CEO of Black Magic.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_01: I have a friend that knows him, and people know the the uh executives at um at Aperture, you know.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_01: So it's like, and I think that's from going all the time.
- 1:33:58SPEAKER_01: You meet people and you buy stuff there.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you farm relationships, yeah, get a business card, and let's keep connected with people, and you never know what that kind of is.
- 1:34:07Vipul Bindra: So, did you buy your lenses there or you you bought them later?
- 1:34:10SPEAKER_01: I bought them, I bought them, I had the conversation there, but I think like I guess it was that like that night, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_01: I didn't buy at any be, but I bought them that night.
- 1:34:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:20Vipul Bindra: Look at that, and then obviously it took them a while to ship them, right?
- 1:34:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, or did they have them?
- 1:34:23Vipul Bindra: Did they give you the test set they had?
- 1:34:25SPEAKER_01: No, I they shipped them out to me.
- 1:34:28Vipul Bindra: I think those were very new.
- 1:34:29Vipul Bindra: They just showed them off, right?
- 1:34:31Vipul Bindra: Brand new, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:32Vipul Bindra: Special.
- 1:34:33Vipul Bindra: Look at that, look at that.
- 1:34:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:35Vipul Bindra: So uh so going back to the lenses a little bit, so uh, I know like we talked in the YouTube video, but what I really want to know is what made you go with the lesser, and I know they were the hot topic, right?
- 1:34:46Vipul Bindra: Obviously, but like so as a DP, here's what what I looked at, right?
- 1:34:52Vipul Bindra: When I was looking at both lenses, I was like, hey, they both look amazing.
- 1:34:55Vipul Bindra: Because again, the same lens, right?
- 1:34:57Vipul Bindra: They definitely craftsmanship-wise, amazing for price that you're paying for a lens.
- 1:35:02Vipul Bindra: It's it's incredible.
- 1:35:03Vipul Bindra: Main thing for me was like, oh, here's a lens I get that's one four, beautiful, warm look, you know, fits in most projects, and I can and and you know, very detailed is what I would explain it, but still have that nice fall-off.
- 1:35:18Vipul Bindra: I really love the fall-off on them.
- 1:35:20Vipul Bindra: But then I can quickly throw like an Hollywood black magic filter on it, or or some other kind of diopter, something on it to give it that vintage or some kind of character that people are looking for, right?
- 1:35:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I wouldn't call them character less, but they're they're they don't have that much character.
- 1:35:33Vipul Bindra: Versus when I looked at Luster, I was like, ooh, same thing, but a lot more character.
- 1:35:38Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:35:38Vipul Bindra: A lot more vintage looking, a lot more flaring, you know, a lot of that cool stuff.
- 1:35:42Vipul Bindra: Same look, but a lot more character, but I cannot remove it.
- 1:35:47Vipul Bindra: Right, that's at least my thought process going in.
- 1:35:49Vipul Bindra: I was like, okay, so I can add it, but I can't remove it, even though this looks beautiful, right?
- 1:35:54Vipul Bindra: But what if a project says, Oh, I don't want that look, right?
- 1:35:57Vipul Bindra: I don't remove it.
- 1:35:58Vipul Bindra: So, what made how because you know you could have bought either with them, I'm sure they would have been happy to help you with either.
- 1:36:03Vipul Bindra: What made you justify that I want the look there all the time?
- 1:36:08SPEAKER_01: I think um we had the same mindset when buying them, it's just in reverse.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_01: So, like, I was like, Okay, I want my videos to have a look to them, and the luster provided that.
- 1:36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so like I'm gonna get those.
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_01: And if I don't want to look, I'm like, I'm like, most likely all my videos, I'm gonna like the look with these luster lenses.
- 1:36:30SPEAKER_01: If I don't want to look, I'll just rent the R's.
- 1:36:32Vipul Bindra: Makes absolute sense.
- 1:36:33Vipul Bindra: You know what I mean?
- 1:36:34Vipul Bindra: And see, I have the exact reward stuff.
- 1:36:36Vipul Bindra: It's like, oh, and I've on the look, I'll just rent the Luster.
- 1:36:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:36:39Vipul Bindra: So this is so amazing and this is why why I want people to hear this conversation, is because neither of us are wrong.
- 1:36:47Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:36:47Vipul Bindra: It's just the thought process, and it's the same thought process, technically.
- 1:36:50Vipul Bindra: You're like, hey, I want the look.
- 1:36:52SPEAKER_01: I want the look, but if I don't want it, but if I don't want it, I can yeah, or I can just shoot my photo glass.
- 1:36:57SPEAKER_01: Like I'd be okay.
- 1:36:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you you have options, it's not like you're limited.
- 1:37:00Vipul Bindra: I mean, there's so many cheaper uh clinical or nicer lenses out there, like Nisi Athena's and right, you know, uh Aureus, I think they just came out of it.
- 1:37:07Vipul Bindra: So I'm saying you you have a lot of options, right?
- 1:37:09Vipul Bindra: So it justifies the same thing for me.
- 1:37:11Vipul Bindra: I was like, if I want the look, yeah, they make they themselves make like vest bids, and there's so many options that have the look, so I can get the look, or you could just add filtration to give Arles a look.
- 1:37:23Vipul Bindra: Uh so it it totally justifies.
- 1:37:25Vipul Bindra: I don't think the approach is at all technically, I think it's the same approach, it's just the same approach.
- 1:37:30Vipul Bindra: Which first approach you want to go with?
- 1:37:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, because like you said, like your clientele, you probably don't want to have a look on majority of your shoes, it's very clean, you know.
- 1:37:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, for me, I mean or we want to do it, but we do it in post.
- 1:37:40SPEAKER_01: In post, yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:41SPEAKER_01: But like posts don't look the same.
- 1:37:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:37:44Vipul Bindra: I mean, yeah, it's not gonna have that vintage character.
- 1:37:46Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's not gonna have it.
- 1:37:46Vipul Bindra: I try to avoid vintage character unless we're doing like a documentary.
- 1:37:50Vipul Bindra: That's where it's perfect.
- 1:37:51Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:37:51SPEAKER_01: Well, so like the lenses don't really have it's not necessarily vintage unless you have like the the flaring is the biggest thing with the lenses.
- 1:38:00SPEAKER_01: Like it looks pretty much exactly the same as the R's except for the flaring.
- 1:38:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, the amber that and the flares, have you seen the flare?
- 1:38:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:38:07SPEAKER_01: They look nice, yeah.
- 1:38:08Vipul Bindra: Ah, exactly.
- 1:38:09Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:38:10Vipul Bindra: The look is amazing, yeah, yeah.
- 1:38:11Vipul Bindra: It's just how they flare up.
- 1:38:12Vipul Bindra: Even the R's flare up really nice, but they're they're not amber, right?
- 1:38:15Vipul Bindra: They're not amber, yeah.
- 1:38:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:38:17SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, so like for my clients, I'm like, like we we just shot uh a corporate like web banner piece with the with the Arls Lester the other day, and I'm like, the client's like, whoa, this is in like she kept saying Netflix, Netflix, Netflix, you know what I mean?
- 1:38:32SPEAKER_01: So it's like okay, my clients like it.
- 1:38:35SPEAKER_01: It's it has if you see stuff on my page, it's gonna have a specific style and tone to it.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_01: So it's like, okay, I can stand out from the competition in a lot of ways in the aspect.
- 1:38:44Vipul Bindra: No, that's that's a very good way to think about it.
- 1:38:47Vipul Bindra: And I think, and I think that's mainly what it is.
- 1:38:49Vipul Bindra: I think people should hear the approach, right?
- 1:38:52Vipul Bindra: And there's no right or wrong as well, it's just your approach.
- 1:38:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:38:57Vipul Bindra: And I think at the end of the day, your clients will be happy if you give them a good way to do it.
- 1:39:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's all that really matters.
- 1:39:01Vipul Bindra: I don't even know they diff know the difference between them like, oh, you have the luster, not the uh you have the rescue, you know, whatever.
- 1:39:08SPEAKER_01: And I and I do do a lot of documentary style shooting too, so I think that's a big thing.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_01: So like a lot of my stuff is like running gun, or I wouldn't use these for corporate events, um, but for like a brand story piece where it can have like a nice, unique look for for uh for a brand.
- 1:39:23SPEAKER_01: I'm like, can't beat it.
- 1:39:24Vipul Bindra: Have you put it on your B cam yet?
- 1:39:26Vipul Bindra: What's your B cam again?
- 1:39:26Vipul Bindra: Uh A7S3, A7S3.
- 1:39:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:39:29Vipul Bindra: Pretty much like an FX3.
- 1:39:30Vipul Bindra: So how has that uh been comparing for UA and B?
- 1:39:32Vipul Bindra: It's beautiful.
- 1:39:33Vipul Bindra: Beautiful, yeah, yeah.
- 1:39:34Vipul Bindra: What adapters did you go for?
- 1:39:36SPEAKER_01: Uh uh PL and PL Map.
- 1:39:38Vipul Bindra: But is there a specific brand you went with or no?
- 1:39:40SPEAKER_01: Um I got them on B and H.
- 1:39:42SPEAKER_01: They're a little pricey, but I don't think there's a a specific brand.
- 1:39:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:39:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:39:46SPEAKER_01: I don't remember.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that's right.
- 1:39:48Vipul Bindra: And and if anyone wants to see the difference, we we did do a YouTube video so they can go compare the check it out.
- 1:39:53Vipul Bindra: The two, yeah, and see what which one they like better.
- 1:39:55Vipul Bindra: But I think either way, you can't go wrong.
- 1:39:57Vipul Bindra: And like I said, it definitely changed my mind on these.
- 1:40:00Vipul Bindra: Chinese lenses.
- 1:40:00Vipul Bindra: I was like, this is incredible.
- 1:40:02Vipul Bindra: They've come far since I used the Pictor Zoom.
- 1:40:04Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:40:05Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:40:05Vipul Bindra: It's crazy.
- 1:40:06Vipul Bindra: And I'm even thinking about the Vespa 2 now because I was like, with the cook, it has a cook technology in there.
- 1:40:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it also has that uh the eye data.
- 1:40:12Vipul Bindra: Yeah, the data, which uh I've been thinking about them for my 8K uh Ronin because they're smaller.
- 1:40:18Vipul Bindra: That's where I was like, you can't put the RLs on that.
- 1:40:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you can.
- 1:40:21Vipul Bindra: So I was like, if we can go put those on there uh for the time we wanted.
- 1:40:26SPEAKER_01: I actually just bought another cinema set, um, the Typok Typox.
- 1:40:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, Type, yeah.
- 1:40:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:31Vipul Bindra: What made you go for them?
- 1:40:32Vipul Bindra: So you have a clinical set now then.
- 1:40:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:35SPEAKER_01: They're clinical.
- 1:40:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're yeah, they're more like yeah, they they're just like basic cinema lenses.
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_01: They look they look clean, uh, nothing really special except for like the edges.
- 1:40:44Vipul Bindra: Um I saw them, but I I I wasn't that impressed.
- 1:40:47Vipul Bindra: So what made you go with them?
- 1:40:48SPEAKER_01: Well, I wanted a smaller set.
- 1:40:50Vipul Bindra: Same thing, something for gimbal.
- 1:40:51Vipul Bindra: Something for gimbal, you know.
- 1:40:53Vipul Bindra: Why would why did you not go for Vespeit 2s?
- 1:40:54Vipul Bindra: Because they were Vespeit even ones, they would match way better with I like how the Typog look more.
- 1:40:59SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:41:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if I had more of a commercial look when I was looking at it.
- 1:41:03SPEAKER_01: I think the Vespid, I mean when I was looking at my kind of has a little bit of like a retro feel, yeah, and a lot of stuff I was seeing.
- 1:41:08SPEAKER_01: And also when I was at uh that's a reason, big reason I wanted to go to NAB, I want to play with all these cinema lenses.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_01: To see what you like.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_01: You see these YouTubers, but it's like they're not you're not showing me what I want to see.
- 1:41:18Vipul Bindra: How much, how much is this set?
- 1:41:19SPEAKER_01: Sorry, uh um, I think like 3500 for the five lens kit.
- 1:41:23Vipul Bindra: Wow, that's so changing.
- 1:41:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah, with the price.
- 1:41:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's insane.
- 1:41:28SPEAKER_01: It's insane.
- 1:41:29SPEAKER_01: So DZO actually owns Typok, that's like a subsidiary company.
- 1:41:33SPEAKER_01: So kind of like talking to my connection.
- 1:41:35Vipul Bindra: So same thing, you could probably uh get a deal on that.
- 1:41:37Vipul Bindra: Yeah, but you can't talk about it.
- 1:41:39SPEAKER_01: You can't talk about it, delete that, delete that.
- 1:41:42SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 1:41:43SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, so like I just talked to her.
- 1:41:45SPEAKER_01: I was like, hey, like you guys had can I can you throw these in with my uh lesser set?
- 1:41:49SPEAKER_01: She was like, Yeah, I got you.
- 1:41:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good deal, right?
- 1:41:52SPEAKER_01: You know, and well it wasn't the same price, but yeah, yeah, no, no, I know what you mean.
- 1:41:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah, they they they did a deal with you, obviously, which is which is fair, because you know you're you're buying this much, you know, right buying a lot of stuff.
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_01: It's like, all right, cool.
- 1:42:06SPEAKER_01: Because I I knew I'm like, I can't, my A7S can put use the RLs, but like if I'm on a gimbal, if I'm on handheld all day, you know.
- 1:42:13Vipul Bindra: That's the only thing I realized, which is not that we were doing gimbal, we were doing handheld, poor manual.
- 1:42:18Vipul Bindra: His arms must have been tired because we we did this, you know, about three days, two and a half days, uh roughly, right, Mario?
- 1:42:23Mario Rangel: Yeah, yeah, two and a half days, yeah.
- 1:42:25Vipul Bindra: So it was it was pretty pretty long days.
- 1:42:27Vipul Bindra: Um so for manual to be handholding, and you know, for but I think he did great.
- 1:42:31Vipul Bindra: But yeah, right.
- 1:42:32Vipul Bindra: Those are those lenses are amazing.
- 1:42:34Vipul Bindra: I mean, on on sticks and even handheld, I think they work great, but I wouldn't put an R on again both.
- 1:42:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and that's what's like my my Ronan AK wouldn't even handle it.
- 1:42:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:42:43Vipul Bindra: So I need to set now uh where I'm using R to go with it, right?
- 1:42:48SPEAKER_01: So Vespa'll probably be perfect for that.
- 1:42:50Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what I was thinking about.
- 1:42:51Vipul Bindra: But again, like you said, I need to go to one of these industry conferences.
- 1:42:54Vipul Bindra: Maybe I'll wait till next NAB.
- 1:42:56Vipul Bindra: Um, or um what's the one that happens in September?
- 1:42:58Vipul Bindra: Um Sinegar or something like that.
- 1:43:00Vipul Bindra: So Cynegar just happened.
- 1:43:01Vipul Bindra: Ugh.
- 1:43:04Vipul Bindra: Look up uh what's the conference, like video video production conference in September, October?
- 1:43:10Vipul Bindra: Resident New York or here?
- 1:43:12Vipul Bindra: Not here.
- 1:43:13Vipul Bindra: Infocom just happened too.
- 1:43:14Vipul Bindra: That's the infocom is here, right?
- 1:43:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, that already happened.
- 1:43:17Vipul Bindra: There's one that happens.
- 1:43:18Vipul Bindra: Uh yeah, you know, it's there's so many.
- 1:43:19Vipul Bindra: I'm forgetting.
- 1:43:20Vipul Bindra: Hopefully, Mario can find out.
- 1:43:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:43:22Vipul Bindra: Uh but I'm saying, yeah, I need to go to, like you said, one of these conferences and just test them out.
- 1:43:26Mario Rangel: And see which one uh uh post-production world?
- 1:43:30Mario Rangel: No.
- 1:43:30Mario Rangel: Las Vegas?
- 1:43:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when I when I was at NAB, we played with uh we had the Nisi, the Blazor, there were some other brands I've never heard of.
- 1:43:39SPEAKER_01: Dzio, uh Surey.
- 1:43:42SPEAKER_01: So many.
- 1:43:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I got to play all of them.
- 1:43:43SPEAKER_01: I'm like, okay.
- 1:43:46Vipul Bindra: And then what's the one that I like?
- 1:43:48Vipul Bindra: Uh to be honest, uh Lawa.
- 1:43:50Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:43:50Vipul Bindra: I own their Pro Blends, they're also killing it.
- 1:43:53Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I I need to upgrade my Pro Blends, and I was just like, now I'm debating because I'm like DZO came out with one too.
- 1:43:58Vipul Bindra: So I'm like, do I go with Lawa, the one I have in the past?
- 1:44:01Vipul Bindra: Yeah, or do I go with DZio?
- 1:44:02Vipul Bindra: So this is where where I think an industry conference is perfect.
- 1:44:05Vipul Bindra: Makes sense.
- 1:44:06Vipul Bindra: You can go test it out, see which one you like better before you commit.
- 1:44:09SPEAKER_01: And after playing, I played with like the Nisi, the Nisi, new, the new, I forgot the Athena or Aureus is the new one.
- 1:44:15Vipul Bindra: Aureus, yeah.
- 1:44:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those are nice, but it was like too perfect.
- 1:44:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it was no character, which is why I'm like, I I was I was very close to buying those.
- 1:44:23Vipul Bindra: Yeah, then I'm like, I don't know where to fit them.
- 1:44:24Vipul Bindra: I might as well just use it.
- 1:44:26SPEAKER_01: We had we were doing like the flare test, and it was honestly like no flare.
- 1:44:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my, this is weird.
- 1:44:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah um and then uh the blazer, I'm like that's too much.
- 1:44:34SPEAKER_01: Sure, they had some cool lenses, but they it just it didn't really speak to me.
- 1:44:39SPEAKER_01: But when I played, when I picked up the luster and we had it on, they put it on, I think it was like a red Komodo or something like that.
- 1:44:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, this is immediately I'm like, I ain't never I've never seen something so beautiful.
- 1:44:48Vipul Bindra: So how would you compare that to the Typock Samara C, I think?
- 1:44:52SPEAKER_01: Um Typock, I feel like that's just a a little bit higher jump than a photoglass, like a G Master.
- 1:45:00SPEAKER_01: It just has a little bit more of that cinematic quality.
- 1:45:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the fall-off basically.
- 1:45:06SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 1:45:07SPEAKER_01: So it's like probably like a 15% jump over uh over a G Master lens versus like the ROs are like a 50% jump.
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a complete big jump.
- 1:45:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:17Vipul Bindra: But it's also a certain look.
- 1:45:18Vipul Bindra: You know, you are buying into the way I would say is emulating cook look, right?
- 1:45:23Vipul Bindra: Both of them are warmer, right?
- 1:45:25Vipul Bindra: They have that you know thing where the skin tone, you know, yeah, yeah, it's giving you that look.
- 1:45:29Vipul Bindra: So it is a look that you're buying into, right?
- 1:45:31Vipul Bindra: But it's cleaner than their let's say vest bids, right?
- 1:45:34Vipul Bindra: Which are like you said, they're they're straight up vintage, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45:36Vipul Bindra: You know, like modern vintage, yeah.
- 1:45:39Vipul Bindra: Uh the these uh but like I said, I was surprised.
- 1:45:42Vipul Bindra: I'm glad I'm I've made a good choice.
- 1:45:44Vipul Bindra: I I genuinely was like not sure.
- 1:45:46Vipul Bindra: Yeah, my thing is again, I buy things I'm gonna use, yeah, and we're about to use them again on Tuesday, so they're they're gonna get used.
- 1:45:52Vipul Bindra: So uh so I'm like, okay, that means it's a good investment.
- 1:45:55Vipul Bindra: They're gonna get used, they're gonna get rented out, they're gonna pay for themselves.
- 1:45:58Vipul Bindra: Because initially I was worried.
- 1:46:00Vipul Bindra: I was like, who's gonna, you know, are we gonna use them again?
- 1:46:03Vipul Bindra: Um, and then uh so what's next for investments?
- 1:46:06Vipul Bindra: It seems like you've been investing in here.
- 1:46:08Vipul Bindra: You think you're done?
- 1:46:09Vipul Bindra: Are you sure?
- 1:46:09Vipul Bindra: I think I believe it.
- 1:46:11SPEAKER_01: I think I I I think I'm done.
- 1:46:13Vipul Bindra: So if you could add anything, let's only make it hypothetical.
- 1:46:16SPEAKER_01: If you could add anything to your kit, what would it be?
- 1:46:18SPEAKER_01: The only two things I could see in the next five years would possibly be uh 1200 watt light.
- 1:46:25SPEAKER_01: Um I don't like I I don't like renting gear a lot of times because I'm like sometimes like hey, I get a shoot tomorrow and I gotta find this gear, I gotta find this light.
- 1:46:34SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I I have everything I need, so I'm good.
- 1:46:37SPEAKER_01: Um so it'll probably a 1200 watt light because that's something that I I've needed a few times.
- 1:46:42SPEAKER_01: And and I feel like it rents pretty well if you have a 1200.
- 1:46:45SPEAKER_01: Um, and then possibly another camera.
- 1:46:48Vipul Bindra: Camera?
- 1:46:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, what camera are you thinking?
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_01: Anything in mind?
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, I black magic is nice.
- 1:46:52SPEAKER_01: The 12k?
- 1:46:54SPEAKER_01: No, I like this.
- 1:46:54SPEAKER_01: The Cine is nice too.
- 1:46:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but I'm waiting to see if one of my friends guesses I can just use it, use theirs.
- 1:47:00SPEAKER_00: Seriously.
- 1:47:02SPEAKER_01: I don't have anything like because like you look at like the red, the red has something special.
- 1:47:07SPEAKER_01: It's like the filmic quality about like the red cameras.
- 1:47:10SPEAKER_01: All right, here we go.
- 1:47:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh yeah, it's it's nice.
- 1:47:14SPEAKER_01: It's nice.
- 1:47:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, no, no, the red camera doesn't.
- 1:47:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:47:16Vipul Bindra: But I feel like for me, at least they're not limited to just virtual production.
- 1:47:20Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:47:20Vipul Bindra: I am not I haven't used them outside of virtual production.
- 1:47:22Vipul Bindra: Now again, yeah, Nikon bought them, they're doing they may hopefully do something really cool.
- 1:47:27Vipul Bindra: I I have nothing against red.
- 1:47:29Vipul Bindra: I love red cameras.
- 1:47:30Vipul Bindra: I used to own multiples, I just know that they never paid for themselves.
- 1:47:33SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:47:33SPEAKER_01: That's all I know.
- 1:47:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's why I wouldn't buy one.
- 1:47:37SPEAKER_01: Um if I was going for like quality, it sound might sound crazy, but some of the videos I've seen on like the Lumix cameras.
- 1:47:44Vipul Bindra: Oh, they're the new ones are killing.
- 1:47:45SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yo, I wish you didn't have that Lumix logo on your camera.
- 1:47:50Vipul Bindra: I mean, they could come back.
- 1:47:51Vipul Bindra: I don't know why they killed their cinema division, which I mean, I guess we all know.
- 1:47:54Vipul Bindra: Oh, is that what they got rid of their cinema division?
- 1:47:56Vipul Bindra: So so they had they had the last one was uh I mean they had the yeah, they they had really crazy.
- 1:48:01Vipul Bindra: I think uh they were used, I mean, for movie making.
- 1:48:04Vipul Bindra: But I'm saying the last one they released that was like more like FX6 style was the Eva one or whatever.
- 1:48:09Vipul Bindra: How long ago was that?
- 1:48:10Vipul Bindra: Five, six years ago.
- 1:48:11Vipul Bindra: Wow, yeah, it just didn't work.
- 1:48:13Vipul Bindra: It didn't work for them.
- 1:48:14Vipul Bindra: So they killed the division.
- 1:48:15Vipul Bindra: There, but they are not coming back with a bang.
- 1:48:17Vipul Bindra: Like I said, I used to have Lumix cameras back in the day.
- 1:48:20Vipul Bindra: Nice.
- 1:48:21Vipul Bindra: And uh they are um, I think coming back with the uh, you know, and also in my school, actually, when I went to school, that's the the cameras they were using.
- 1:48:30Vipul Bindra: So they the Panasonic's been in the in the industry, but uh let's underrated very underrated.
- 1:48:35Vipul Bindra: Here's the thing yeah, they have stiff competition.
- 1:48:38Vipul Bindra: Hey, if they if they even decide to bring cinema division, they don't have to.
- 1:48:41Vipul Bindra: But you know, the the the thing with Sony and uh uh Ari and all these cams, like they have is like you can upgrade, like with Sony, you can literally go up to the Burano, but then to the Venice 2, and you can go make a Hollywood movie, right?
- 1:48:54Vipul Bindra: Right?
- 1:48:54Vipul Bindra: There's no like oh yeah, what do I use?
- 1:48:57Vipul Bindra: Like you can look go be like making your next movie and you can have a FX3 Crash Cram, FX2 Cash Cram, FX6, you know, as your C cam, whatever.
- 1:49:05Vipul Bindra: Point is there's a whole ecosystem, which is how they've been it.
- 1:49:08Vipul Bindra: Not that the cameras are better or whatever, right?
- 1:49:09Vipul Bindra: Venice 2 is now fully accepted in all per all levels of production.
- 1:49:13Vipul Bindra: I'm talking top in movies.
- 1:49:14Vipul Bindra: I mean, what uh Top Gun was shot on a Venice or Venice 2, right?
- 1:49:18Vipul Bindra: Point is like that the the they're somehow they've broken through that REST, you know, they still have the full grip, but they're like they're another indication standard you can change.
- 1:49:27Vipul Bindra: Yes, but Sony's now fully accepted.
- 1:49:29Vipul Bindra: Like if you're like, I'm making my movie in Venice 2, yeah, nobody's gonna blink an eye on you.
- 1:49:33Vipul Bindra: Sounds good.
- 1:49:33Vipul Bindra: So that and then that the advantage to you you get is like, hey, I know an FX3 that you can now grow into full uh uh movie without like making a full movie without uh you know changing brands or whatever, which Panasonic doesn't have.
- 1:49:48Vipul Bindra: I think they're currently targeting content creator market, right?
- 1:49:51Vipul Bindra: Yeah, which is good, yeah.
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and the cameras are cheap, they're shooting.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_01: They look so good, bro.
- 1:49:56SPEAKER_01: Like Oliver has uh I forgot which Lumix he has on G8, some whatever, Mark II.
- 1:50:02SPEAKER_01: Um, but like we shot we shot a video for KFC, and like I shot my FX6, he's trying to Lumix, and I'm going through and editing.
- 1:50:09SPEAKER_01: I'm like, why do these shots just look creamy?
- 1:50:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it looked like I had a cinema lens on it.
- 1:50:13Vipul Bindra: And I think now you can even buy the Log C R E Log C on my click and upgrade.
- 1:50:18Vipul Bindra: Uh again, not doesn't make it Ari, but you can get that straight log out of it.
- 1:50:21Vipul Bindra: You don't have to go do the conversion and right.
- 1:50:24SPEAKER_01: So I wouldn't I wouldn't buy it, but I think um in the next few years, and this is like five years, that's probably really the only two things I need.
- 1:50:31Vipul Bindra: But have you been paying attention to guess who's making a film camera?
- 1:50:34Vipul Bindra: Fuji.
- 1:50:35Vipul Bindra: Yeah, we call it Sarna.
- 1:50:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:50:38SPEAKER_01: They didn't let us play it was in like a glass box where we looked at them like that thing looks sick.
- 1:50:42SPEAKER_01: Fuji that'd be insane.
- 1:50:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah, dude, they Fuji knows how to do it.
- 1:50:46Vipul Bindra: They got the branding.
- 1:50:47Vipul Bindra: I know uh people have talked about like co the sounds of canon and red and all this, but Fuji knows how to they they they've been in the game too long, yeah.
- 1:50:56Vipul Bindra: So again, not saying I don't have interested the camera, right?
- 1:50:59Vipul Bindra: I don't know if it'll be accepted by the industry, but there's a high chance of Fuji making a camera in it being accepted than Panasonic.
- 1:51:06Vipul Bindra: Right, yeah, it's just the case and they are already making it, yeah.
- 1:51:09Vipul Bindra: And it's also a medium format sensor, so which is gonna be crazy to have uh that huge of a sensor.
- 1:51:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, industry is already struggling because you know movies are still made on Super 35, yeah.
- 1:51:20Vipul Bindra: So there's still uh obviously a lot of movies are being made on large format, but I wonder who's gonna make a movie on medium format.
- 1:51:26Vipul Bindra: That's yeah, that's gonna be crazy.
- 1:51:29Vipul Bindra: Like uh, I mean IMAX movies.
- 1:51:30Vipul Bindra: Or no one, yeah.
- 1:51:31SPEAKER_01: That should be coming out like next yeah next year, right?
- 1:51:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's supposed to come out this year, supposed to come.
- 1:51:36Vipul Bindra: But they have very little information.
- 1:51:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they just had a box and then they were like, this is the camera.
- 1:51:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah, they don't have to do much, is what I'm saying.
- 1:51:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:42SPEAKER_01: So they oh and their booth was hot at NAB, so they're good.
- 1:51:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so they're they're they're then but the thing is that they're not uh they know how to make lenses, they know how to make cameras.
- 1:51:51Vipul Bindra: It's just they're forced for it into like a cinema world.
- 1:51:54Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and not that they're doing anything different.
- 1:51:56Vipul Bindra: What's crazy is I think it's the same sensor as this in the GFX Mark II or whatever.
- 1:52:00Vipul Bindra: So it's not like we haven't seen this sensor, right?
- 1:52:02Vipul Bindra: It's just I don't know that many cameras that have that giant sensor.
- 1:52:06Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:52:07Vipul Bindra: So it may be something to look out for.
- 1:52:09Vipul Bindra: Not that it matters again, right?
- 1:52:10Vipul Bindra: Just like Pixis 12K.
- 1:52:11Vipul Bindra: Could I buy one?
- 1:52:12Vipul Bindra: Yes, I could have bought three Pixis 12Ks for the I paid for my drone in 8k because you know you have to add accessories and all the stuff to make it basically work.
- 1:52:22Vipul Bindra: And I was like, I could have easily bought three Pixas 12Ks.
- 1:52:25Vipul Bindra: So I think it just comes down, at least for me, is just demand.
- 1:52:28Vipul Bindra: If if you know you start calling me, you're like, Whipple, if you buy, you know, I I need a 12k operator or whatever, right, right.
- 1:52:33Vipul Bindra: I'm like, okay, it makes sense.
- 1:52:35Vipul Bindra: But until that happens, you know, it just doesn't make sense.
- 1:52:38Vipul Bindra: Because the camera may be beautiful, the sensor may be beautiful, but so is like you said, a Lumix.
- 1:52:42Vipul Bindra: So is the 8K, so is FX6.
- 1:52:45Vipul Bindra: Cameras are just so good now.
- 1:52:46Vipul Bindra: So good now.
- 1:52:47Vipul Bindra: I don't think it matters.
- 1:52:48Vipul Bindra: It just matters is what you get hired.
- 1:52:50SPEAKER_01: I think if I I was looking at the Ronin a while ago, and I'm like, if I did buy a camera, I probably would have got that one too.
- 1:52:56SPEAKER_01: Because like I'm like, it has something that none of the other cameras have.
- 1:53:01Vipul Bindra: What it can and and here's my thing.
- 1:53:02Vipul Bindra: So like I said, I was looking at Burano, here's my the way I justified it.
- 1:53:05Vipul Bindra: I was looking at Burano and Ronin was always in my back of my mind.
- 1:53:08Vipul Bindra: The thing is, I would have bought 6K a long time ago when it came out.
- 1:53:11Vipul Bindra: The thing was, every video I saw that it had that uh Moire issue or Moire, you know, basically patterns.
- 1:53:18Vipul Bindra: And I try to tell my clients not to wear pattern shirts, you know, but in series, I can't guarantee it.
- 1:53:23Vipul Bindra: They may have some employee, and uh, you know, and I and obviously I know you could diffuse it, you could try to take it out.
- 1:53:28Vipul Bindra: I just didn't want to deal with that.
- 1:53:29Vipul Bindra: Yeah, plus, you know, I the whole point of that camera would be run and gun.
- 1:53:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I'm not gonna have patterns of wide balance.
- 1:53:35Vipul Bindra: So the 6k looked incredible, I just could never justify it.
- 1:53:39Vipul Bindra: But the sensor was not the best.
- 1:53:42Vipul Bindra: So what I hate though is you can get a 6k for 5k and it doubles your price just to upgrade the sensor to 10k.
- 1:53:49Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I think the price they're asking for 8k is a little too much.
- 1:53:52Vipul Bindra: I know you get the one terabyte card and a lens in it, so it's not but I'm just saying still a one terabyte card, a lens, and an 8k from 6k should not double the price of the camera.
- 1:54:02Vipul Bindra: I still think they charge too much, but that's why I got it because the 8k has the OLPF.
- 1:54:07Vipul Bindra: So, which means no more Mario, plus skin tones look nicer, the sensors better, and the and then it can do shots than my FX6 can.
- 1:54:15Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:54:15Vipul Bindra: I'm not replacing my FX6s or any other cameras from FX3s.
- 1:54:19SPEAKER_01: But if you need a specific kind of shot, it can do it.
- 1:54:21Vipul Bindra: Exactly, especially uh events and conferences or yeah, fast run and gun stuff.
- 1:54:26Vipul Bindra: I love the tracking part.
- 1:54:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, like with a normal gimbal, not that we can't, we've all learned the ninja walk, right?
- 1:54:32Vipul Bindra: This just saves you from having to do the ninja walk.
- 1:54:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so you just track, you move the camera, it automatically tracks, you get the shot.
- 1:54:39Vipul Bindra: So again, uh I think it's very unique.
- 1:54:42Vipul Bindra: And now I think it's being accepted, which it took three years to get accepted, but now it's been on Civil War, it's on adolescence, so it's being accepted by Hollywood finally.
- 1:54:51Vipul Bindra: I think there was another movie that Mel Gibson directed, uh Flight Risk, I think.
- 1:54:56Vipul Bindra: They also used it there.
- 1:54:57Vipul Bindra: So multiple movies now have used the Ronan and TV show.
- 1:55:01Vipul Bindra: That's so I think it's finally getting accepted, and I think it's for that reason.
- 1:55:05Vipul Bindra: It's just so unique, it doesn't replace any camera.
- 1:55:08Vipul Bindra: It's just it's its own thing.
- 1:55:10SPEAKER_01: It's something that no other camera can do.
- 1:55:12SPEAKER_01: It has.
- 1:55:13Vipul Bindra: And so far, in my limited time, so we've only had it for a little bit.
- 1:55:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so I don't want to full review comment.
- 1:55:18Vipul Bindra: I'll I'll probably drop a YouTube video at some point.
- 1:55:20Vipul Bindra: But the main thing for me was just the weight.
- 1:55:23Vipul Bindra: Uh, I don't know why the camera is so heavy because it's actually a very small body.
- 1:55:28Vipul Bindra: Small, yeah.
- 1:55:28Vipul Bindra: All it is is a gimbal, a four-axis gimbal with a very and I'm talking the native glass too, so it's very lightweight plastic essentially, and then a small body.
- 1:55:38Vipul Bindra: I don't understand where the weight is.
- 1:55:39Vipul Bindra: Yeah, why is it dense?
- 1:55:41Vipul Bindra: And I even tried the V mount, the small V mount battery.
- 1:55:43SPEAKER_01: Is it the body that's really heavy?
- 1:55:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I mean, again, it's not the heaviest.
- 1:55:47Vipul Bindra: If you compare it to FX2, three, I'm sorry, FX6 on a gimbal, it's probably lighter.
- 1:55:52Vipul Bindra: But if they compare it to like FX3 on a gimbal, it's it's very heavy, and uh to go all day would require obviously some strong muscle.
- 1:55:59Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:56:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that would be the way easy.
- 1:56:02Vipul Bindra: I would probably have to get back.
- 1:56:03Vipul Bindra: So I basically sold my easy rig.
- 1:56:05Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I went to Cine, uh the not Cine Saddle, Cine Saddle sets up, it's called a sack right there.
- 1:56:09Vipul Bindra: I don't know if you see it.
- 1:56:10Vipul Bindra: And it's great for FX6 and FX2 because you know you can rest it, yeah, it gives you that handheld look, but it won't work because the sensors are at the bottom for the Ronin.
- 1:56:19Vipul Bindra: So I have to buy an easy rig again.
- 1:56:21Vipul Bindra: So that's more expensive for a camera.
- 1:56:23SPEAKER_01: I will say the only downside from you with the Ronin, it's the ugly camera.
- 1:56:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's the ugliest camera of all time.
- 1:56:29SPEAKER_01: See, this is why I would never show up just with that.
- 1:56:31Vipul Bindra: You show up with these, yeah.
- 1:56:33SPEAKER_01: And then you're like, Yeah, because like your client will probably be like, oh wow, look at the buttons on the FX.
- 1:56:38SPEAKER_01: That's so cool.
- 1:56:38SPEAKER_01: What kind of camera?
- 1:56:39SPEAKER_01: Ronin's like, ooh.
- 1:56:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and and that's crazy, is that two uh I would say with accessories, you can buy two FX6s for the price of one of those.
- 1:56:47Vipul Bindra: So it does not look its price like a blue.
- 1:56:49Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, it definitely doesn't.
- 1:56:51Vipul Bindra: But it does not look like anything else on the market.
- 1:56:53Vipul Bindra: Yeah, too.
- 1:56:54Vipul Bindra: And the shots that you can get, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:56:56Vipul Bindra: I don't think it's a sole camera.
- 1:56:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I I wouldn't just go buy it as your only camera.
- 1:57:00Vipul Bindra: No, no, no.
- 1:57:01Vipul Bindra: But I do think it's a very good B or C camera where you're like, I need this.
- 1:57:06Vipul Bindra: I need my interview or my whatever A roll, and now I need moving shots, walk and talks, where B roll tracking shots.
- 1:57:13Vipul Bindra: I think that's where it fits in.
- 1:57:14Vipul Bindra: That's where at least we're gonna try and fit in, and hopefully it'll it'll work great.
- 1:57:18Vipul Bindra: Um and uh but yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:57:21Vipul Bindra: Like I said, like I said on my last episode, the lineup, I I did some thought process too.
- 1:57:26Vipul Bindra: Where do I see Bender production?
- 1:57:28Vipul Bindra: And and to be honest, having used reds, having used Aries, having used Lumix, I've used I don't know any camera.
- 1:57:35Vipul Bindra: I I really was like, this is what makes most sense and makes money.
- 1:57:39Vipul Bindra: I am still going to invest in a Burano, I think.
- 1:57:42Vipul Bindra: That'll become the primary, like I said, that'd be the offer for the the medium-sized shoots, right?
- 1:57:46Vipul Bindra: With the all's or maybe a couple more lens senses sets, and then so Burano, two FX6s, two FX3s, uh, and FX2 for photography.
- 1:57:56Vipul Bindra: Mainly, I know people don't like that camera, but I think it's gonna fit well.
- 1:57:59Vipul Bindra: I'm gonna get rid of my FX30s because they're just sitting brand new there.
- 1:58:02Vipul Bindra: I I just don't use Super 35.
- 1:58:04Vipul Bindra: Yeah, it's really good camera, but it's not for me.
- 1:58:06Vipul Bindra: And then uh Ronin 48K, it will be our like run and gun style, you know, camera.
- 1:58:12Vipul Bindra: And I think that's a very good lineup as a production company.
- 1:58:15Vipul Bindra: What do you think, Mario?
- 1:58:16Vipul Bindra: Any uh about the lineup?
- 1:58:18Mario Rangel: I think it's great.
- 1:58:20Mario Rangel: Wait, wait a second.
- 1:58:22Mario Rangel: Here, okay.
- 1:58:23Mario Rangel: Yeah.
- 1:58:23Mario Rangel: No, I think uh I think it's great.
- 1:58:25Mario Rangel: If you're selling the FX30, maybe I can buy it from you.
- 1:58:28Mario Rangel: There you go.
- 1:58:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I think one dollar.
- 1:58:33Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you learned the sales lessons.
- 1:58:37Vipul Bindra: No, I'll tell you why.
- 1:58:38Vipul Bindra: Uh my initial investment to FX30 was it made no it made absolute sense.
- 1:58:43Vipul Bindra: You're telling me FX3, I think one of the most I don't like mirror-less cameras, and I was like, wow, this is this is perfect.
- 1:58:48Vipul Bindra: I know some people have complaints about it.
- 1:58:50Vipul Bindra: I like the way FX3 buttons are laid out.
- 1:58:53Vipul Bindra: So I was like, you're telling me I can have the exact same body, but for like less than half the price, yeah, and I could fit in and it'll deploy with the same line, the same.
- 1:59:02Vipul Bindra: You see what I'm saying?
- 1:59:03Vipul Bindra: It just was a perfect fit.
- 1:59:04Vipul Bindra: The problem is I I don't like mixing formats.
- 1:59:07Vipul Bindra: I have nothing against Super 35 or APSC, whatever you can call it.
- 1:59:12Vipul Bindra: But the thing is, I just don't like mixing the look.
- 1:59:14Vipul Bindra: Right.
- 1:59:14Vipul Bindra: And so I bought them brand new, they're literally matching serial numbers, like you know, one's like a two with the other three, like yeah, they came out of the same box.
- 1:59:21Vipul Bindra: So they were bought at the same time, and they have been used one camera like once and one twice.
- 1:59:26Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so they and the reason is wherever I try to deploy them, I have an amazing camera, really good look.
- 1:59:32Vipul Bindra: Even photos, 33 megapixel, the look wouldn't match.
- 1:59:35Vipul Bindra: The photo doesn't match to a full frame look, right?
- 1:59:38Vipul Bindra: So if you're in the two if you own two FX30s, I think you're good as a production company.
- 1:59:42Vipul Bindra: But and because the lenses would be cheaper with the Sigmas new and I don't know if you saw the 17 to what 40 millimeter one point.
- 1:59:50Vipul Bindra: That lens would be incredible.
- 1:59:51Vipul Bindra: I used to have the original, the 1835 1.8.
- 1:59:53Vipul Bindra: So I'm thinking they have great lenses that are cheaper, that are nicer.
- 1:59:57Vipul Bindra: Uh but it only works, I think, at least for.
- 2:00:00Vipul Bindra: Me if you're you know all the cameras match.
- 2:00:02Vipul Bindra: I don't like mixing a super 30 with full frame.
- 2:00:04Vipul Bindra: Somebody may and good for them.
- 2:00:06Vipul Bindra: But yeah, that's basically where I bad is even though it's incredible cameras, they don't fit in my workflow.
- 2:00:11Vipul Bindra: And I'd rather not have two things sit.
- 2:00:13Vipul Bindra: I'd rather be go and deploy it and somebody else get a really good use out of it.
- 2:00:17Vipul Bindra: So yeah, I'm gonna get rid of them basically sitting brand new.
- 2:00:20Vipul Bindra: I heard that.
- 2:00:22Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:00:23Vipul Bindra: And I get the FX too, because I think for me, even though it's a terrible thing from Sony, the way they're doing it, I think it fits better because it's um it can do photo and video at the same time.
- 2:00:34Vipul Bindra: So I can deploy in more for those four shoots where we're we're just yeah, can you get a photo real quick?
- 2:00:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah, or can you do headshots?
- 2:00:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I got headshots, yeah.
- 2:00:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:00:43Vipul Bindra: Awesome, man.
- 2:00:44Vipul Bindra: Can't believe it's been two hours.
- 2:00:46Vipul Bindra: Yes, already.
- 2:00:47Vipul Bindra: Oh second time.
- 2:00:48Vipul Bindra: What do you think?
- 2:00:49Vipul Bindra: So before we go, I'm gonna ask you, what do you think about so you are one of the few people who are in season one is gonna be on season two?
- 2:00:55Vipul Bindra: How would you compare to the two?

- 2:01:12SPEAKER_01: I think I think we got it.
- 2:01:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love it.
- 2:01:14SPEAKER_01: I love it, man.
- 2:01:14Vipul Bindra: I think you're on the right track, bro.
- 2:01:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and you what do you think about Mario?
- 2:01:18Vipul Bindra: Should we keep him or should we fire him?
- 2:01:19SPEAKER_01: Mario, Mario can always Mario's always welcome, man.
- 2:01:22SPEAKER_01: Mario's a vibe.
- 2:01:23SPEAKER_01: If it wasn't for Mario, I wouldn't be here right now.
- 2:01:25SPEAKER_01: You hear that, Mario?
- 2:01:26SPEAKER_01: I can't judge.
- 2:01:27Vipul Bindra: I really wanted to do that Joe Rogan thing where you know we can pull up things, we can see.
- 2:01:31Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I don't know, just make it more interactive.
- 2:01:33Vipul Bindra: That's cool.
- 2:01:33Vipul Bindra: Uh plus I like Mario, you know, he's a good one.
- 2:01:35Vipul Bindra: Yeah, Mario's a vibe.
