- 12:20Yeah, he says he knew Habrella and Iachino told me a man named
- 12:22Charles Bender another one named Bob Fisher in the card game. Tonight might be
- 12:28a break. Huh Yeah, I phoned in r and I gotta make for
- 12:31him. Fisher did two years for Karl theft out last November. Five arrests.
- 12:35Previous to that burglary theft nothing Big Benders had thirteen arrests, two convictions,
- 12:41both narcotics, six months county jail lenty thirty nine, six months county

- 13:15and your friend Shirley Matton called twice what she won. You didn't get
- 13:20the package together on Francisco sent over the district attorney's office. All right,
- 13:24Pete, Yeah, he's in your office. Benda turned himself in this morning.
- 13:26Yeah, I walked in the fifth precinct, told the desk sound and
- 13:30he thought he was one of They just brought him down. Okay, anything
- 13:31on the others watching their houses, checking their mama sheets. Okay, What'll
- 13:37I tell Shirley if she calls again? Oh? Say, I will see
- 13:39her at the trial. I want to spoke Ben. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:43oh hi Ben, this is uh Charlie Bender. Yeah, I know what
- 13:48I'm saying. Hello the tennis and stand you turned yourself in, Yes,
- 13:52sir, I didn't want any part of this, no part of it at
- 13:54all. He was just about to tell us what happened last night. Go
- 13:58ahead. I don't know how it started. I really don't. He'd been
- 14:03drinking some, but nobody was chunking. Who was there? Well, brother,
- 14:07it's you know then a kid named Fish And there's no kid that Tony
- 14:11invited. Now what was his name? Tony just called him. Pinky was
- 14:13already there when Fish and make him in sitting there with Tony in Vince.
- 14:18They just called him thinking we sat down to play. You don't know his
- 14:22full name, No, no, and I had nothing to do with it.
- 14:24It was Pinky. He was the one. You mean he did the
- 14:28killing. Yeah, yeah, you don't know any more about him other than
- 14:31that they called him thinking no going well. We were playing five card Me
- 14:37and Fish had dropped out after the opener's Pinky and Vincent Tony played it out.
- 14:41Tony won the hand, and Pinky got mad about it, said he'd
- 14:45been sandbagg began calling him Tony names, kept kneeling him. Pinky felt the
- 14:48next hand lost that too, played Vince foot and he started swinging on him.
- 14:54Vince went after him. Pinky picked up a screwdriver sitting in a window,
- 14:56sewed what chest you all got scared? Tony tried to get his arms
- 15:03around Pink. Pinky let him have it too. That's just so aware.
- 15:09That's about the way it happened. Why don't you run, Charlie think.
- 15:13He looked at me and Fish and said we better get out of there for
- 15:16somebody call the cops. He said we were all in it together. Did
- 15:20he threaten you? He still had the scow drive in his hand. Did
- 15:22he threaten you? Did he say he'd kill you if he didn't go with
- 15:24him? He just killed two guys. He had the scow driver in his
- 15:28hand. Did he threaten Fisher? No, Oh, he just said we'd
- 15:33all be hauled in if we didn't get out of there. And I never
- 15:35liked this thing when out there. Yeah, look, won't you guys believe
- 15:45me? Just trying to get all the facts. Well, I'm telling him
- 15:46to you. What happened after he left the house, Oh, pile and
- 15:52Fisher's car started driving. Think he said we edited the Chicago. Fisher didn't
- 15:56want it, but Pinky kept talking crazy kind of said, okay, we
- 16:00do that. Think he said he had a gun at his place. He
- 16:03want to stop pick it up, so they should drove him over there.
- 16:07Where was that, uh, Clover Street. I think he went in,
- 16:11come right out. He had a gun with him, what kind? I
- 16:14didn't know, just a gun. Then what happened? Fisher said he wanted
- 16:18to get some things at his place, so drove over there, but there
- 16:22was a proud car out in front him and went by, so he just
- 16:23kept on going. It's it's really what started me thinking, I know we're
- 16:29in for it real good. Fisher didn't have anything to do with it,
- 16:32but they already wanted us. They knew who we were. I just took
- 16:36a chance. When we stopped for light on Federal, probably out of car
- 16:38began running. Think he yelled at me, but I just kept on going.
- 16:41I ran an alley and climbed a fencer, and I hid in the
- 16:45filling station. It was closed for the night. I just stayed there and
- 16:48I thought it was safe, and and I found the nearest police station.
- 16:56The whole things started when Vincentiacchino w a hand from Pink. Yeah, as
- 17:00Finky went after Vincent with a screwdriver. Then he got Tony all over that
- 17:06one hand. Yeah yeah. How much money did Pinky lose on a hand?
- 17:11Tony? Nineteen cents? Both Back this Sunday Night Edgar Bergen and Company

- 18:19sure it was a white house on Clover Street. Yeah yeah, Look,
- 18:22I'm doing my best. We've gone up and down three times now, been
- 18:26thirty second to twenty fifth. You said it was here, someplace it is
- 18:30it is? Yeah? Can we try the alley? He took a sense
- 18:36for the alley. Okay, Pete, back it up. I sure want
- 18:40you to get a line on him. You know that, don't you.
- 18:41You know I want you to get him. Yeah, sure, Ben,
- 18:51it's almost six I'm getting hungry. Hummy too. Hey you spot he who
- 18:56We turned left in the alley, just like we did it in this one.
- 19:00They made Fisher stop the car ride by a big garage. Then he
- 19:02went into the house while we waited. He hey, look this could be
- 19:04it. All right, take a good look, Benda. I think there's
- 19:15the place. It was dark, but I remember there was a high fence
- 19:18and he went to a gate like that one. Okay, Pete, give
- 19:21it a try. Yep, be right back all right. You said you
- 19:26didn't have a chance to talk to Fisher, I didn't know what about when
- 19:30you were waiting in the car for Pinky. How did you talk about then?
- 19:33Well, we were all alone. I think he wasn't around. We
- 19:37were scared more than anything else. A crazy guy just killed two people.
- 19:41We were scared, that's all. I just got to play a little penny
- 19:45an you last night, that's all. But you could have gotten away from
- 19:48him then, yeah, yeah, we could have, but we were scared.
- 19:51Uh. That's the truth to me, and Fisher didn't have anything to
- 19:55do with the killing. It was all thinky, that's true on it true.
- 19:57Yeah, Harrison owns the house. He's putting on some clothes right now.
- 20:03Three days ago he ran at the back room to a guy who gave
- 20:04his name as Lloyd Talbot's tall, redheaded, medium build about twenty seven.
- 20:10Well bender, I never heard that name, but it sounds likely. Harrison
- 20:15got a phone in there. Yeah, let's take it here, Pete.
- 20:18I'll send somebody out from the crime land. I had been call him that
- 20:22name. We might have something. Yeah, sure, pretty morning. Uh
