- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hello everyone, welcome to a special edition of the Almost
- 0:08Speaker 2: Famous podcast where we're not gonna be talking about The Bachelor.
- 0:11Speaker 2: We're gonna be talking about mostly Stars on Mars, which
- 0:14Speaker 2: is a news show that I am on on Fox.
- 0:17Speaker 2: It airs not next to not the same time as
- 0:21Speaker 2: The Bachelor at It airs at eight on Fox on
- 0:27Speaker 2: Monday nights, and then you can roll right over to
- 0:30Speaker 2: ABC and watch The Bachelorette after you watch Me on Mars. Guys,
- 0:35Speaker 2: So we did a little preview a couple of days ago.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Ben's here obviously, and he was asking me about what
- 0:42Speaker 2: the Stars on Mars experience was like. And it was
- 0:47Speaker 2: in Australia in the middle of the outback, which is
- 0:50Speaker 2: kind of cool.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It looked like it was a place that looked like Mars.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Do I think they probably could have used like North
- 0:56Speaker 2: or South Dakota probably, but you know, we went.
- 1:01Speaker 3: To the middle of nowhere.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Ben, do you have any questions before we get on
- 1:04Speaker 2: our My co star from Jars ar Mars, Adam Rippin,
- 1:09Speaker 2: who is a very well known figure skater, Do you
- 1:12Speaker 2: have questions for Adam and I about what Mars was.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Like, I have a lot of questions for the two. OK.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Great, well let's get him on. Hi.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Ben, Hello Adam, it's nice to meet you.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Nice to meet you. Well, Adam is on the line.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Hello, Adam, so thrilled to have you here. Talk about
- 1:29Speaker 2: the planet Mars. You were there before me, significantly before me,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and you formed I don't know what I want to say, alliances,
- 1:38Speaker 2: but like friendships and such before and I got there,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and tell us just how it was the first week
- 1:44Speaker 2: or so on Mars before I got there.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Okay, so before you got there, I mean sort of
- 1:51Speaker 5: just like how when you got there, you didn't know
- 1:53Speaker 5: what you were signing up for, right.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Absolutely not. No.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I knew that I was going to like a Mars simulation,
- 2:02Speaker 5: and I was like, Okay, I don't know what that.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I'm assuming that means.
- 2:05Speaker 5: I'm going to like the gram wie Lea and I'm
- 2:09Speaker 5: just going to be hanging out and that's it.
- 2:12Speaker 3: And then.
- 2:15Speaker 5: When we did the first few challenges, it was so physical.
- 2:20Speaker 5: I did think, and if I do think back, I
- 2:25Speaker 5: think that I was in danger.
- 2:27Speaker 2: You were in danger, I thought, so I was like
- 2:31Speaker 2: concerned because I saw the cast list beforehand, and I
- 2:35Speaker 2: saw that there were so many athletes, yourself included, and
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'm like, wait a second, this has got to be
- 2:40Speaker 2: like a challenge show like the one that Hannah Brown
- 2:43Speaker 2: was on. What was it called Special Forces? I'm like,
- 2:46Speaker 2: is this special Forces? But on Mars? Like I told
- 2:48Speaker 2: the casting producers, I'm not in shape.
- 2:52Speaker 5: No, and I I got asked to do Special Forces
- 2:56Speaker 5: and I they were like, you know, it's like, oh,
- 2:59Speaker 5: you're going to do these things, these marine like tasks.
- 3:03Speaker 5: And I was like, there's a better chance of me
- 3:05Speaker 5: actually joining the Marines than me doing this show. And
- 3:10Speaker 5: then like a year later, they're like, would you like
- 3:14Speaker 5: to go to Mars? And obviously I'm an idiot and
- 3:17Speaker 5: was like yes. And so when we got there, it
- 3:21Speaker 5: was just it was the challenges that we did before
- 3:24Speaker 5: you got there were so physical and like, yes, I'm
- 3:29Speaker 5: an athlete on paper, but in practice, I'm I wouldn't
- 3:36Speaker 5: consider especially with the likes of like Ronda Rousey, who
- 3:39Speaker 5: could fare handedly kill me. So if she had to,
- 3:44Speaker 5: she wouldn't, but if she had to, she could she could.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Now don't I don't know how much you're able to
- 3:50Speaker 4: give away.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel like there's a way to do this
- 3:54Speaker 6: and keep it very secretive, because my thought is when
- 3:58Speaker 6: I heard about this show that yes, so I'm claustrophobic.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Don't tell Adam what happened.
- 4:05Speaker 6: Well, so I got an email saying, hey, are you
- 4:09Speaker 6: interested in doing the show. I couldn't give up as
- 4:11Speaker 6: much time as they originally needed. I'd give up a
- 4:13Speaker 6: lot of time, but I had like two commitments in
- 4:15Speaker 6: the beginning, and then I didn't hear anything, and so Ashley,
- 4:19Speaker 6: I think took my place in a way or kind
- 4:21Speaker 6: of represented the Bachelor franchise.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Wells also was asked, Yeah, Crawley was asked, and then
- 4:28Speaker 2: Jojo was asked, all couldn't do it for other reasons?
- 4:32Speaker 3: M h, so my moral reasons.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Yeah, moral reasons. So I have these like things that
- 4:38Speaker 6: I don't love. I can do heights, I cannot be claustrophobic.
- 4:41Speaker 6: I cannot be stuck in something small and thrown to
- 4:44Speaker 6: a dark place for very long or I paint out.
- 4:48Speaker 6: And so, can you explain a little bit of what
- 4:53Speaker 6: you were feeling once you showed up and then once
- 4:57Speaker 6: you started to hear about some of the top petitions
- 5:00Speaker 6: and challenges you were going to be a part of
- 5:02Speaker 6: like what went on inside of you.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Honestly, nothing went on inside of me because I had
- 5:11Speaker 5: to a part of me had to die to make
- 5:14Speaker 5: it through that. And so I'm I'm just like you
- 5:23Speaker 5: because I don't, like, I'm claustrophobic, and so I didn't
- 5:28Speaker 5: think that this was going to be an issue because
- 5:29Speaker 5: I was like, there's nothing on Mars to be claustrophobic about. Obviously,
- 5:34Speaker 5: I'm a scientist.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Space shuttles and the helmets.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Well, I figured that out once I got there, and
- 5:41Speaker 5: when we put on like the spacesuit for the first time.
- 5:44Speaker 5: You know, in my mind, I'm like, it's going to
- 5:46Speaker 5: be a costume like in which it is. But it
- 5:49Speaker 5: was heavy, like astually. You remember, the backpack was like
- 5:52Speaker 5: thirty pounds and the helmet was like ten pounds at
- 5:56Speaker 5: least at least And Ashley and I actually bonded because
- 6:04Speaker 5: I by the time Ashley got there, I had realized that, like,
- 6:08Speaker 5: I need to take a beta blocker before we do.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Have some on you, yes, because I was.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Like, maybe you know, maybe I'm it'll be like, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 5: I'll have anxiety.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You you were definitely the one that like seemed to
- 6:24Speaker 2: understand my physical uncomfortability the.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Most because one it the most claustrophobic part about it
- 6:32Speaker 5: all was the helmet, because like, oh, it felt like
- 6:39Speaker 5: I felt like I was like that Mexican woman who
- 6:41Speaker 5: was like buried and she wasn't dead and like and
- 6:45Speaker 5: she like knocks on the coffin at her own funeral.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I was That was who I was.
- 6:51Speaker 2: This is what you mean by you had to die
- 6:53Speaker 2: a little bit, because like I had to really psych
- 6:55Speaker 2: myself up out in the helmet to be like, Okay,
- 6:59Speaker 2: you're not in that, Like, don't don't think about the helmet.
- 7:01Speaker 3: You can't think about the helmet because if you.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Like take a second to be like my head is
- 7:05Speaker 2: in a glass case.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yes you're dear, you're gonna go into the panic zone.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You're going to go into the panic zone.
- 7:12Speaker 5: The thing I didn't like, but I there's uh, ben,
- 7:16Speaker 5: if you ever do go to Mars, there's some tips
- 7:19Speaker 5: and tricks of the trade that I'm I'm willing to
- 7:21Speaker 5: share is that they buckle the helmet in.
- 7:24Speaker 3: They like buckle it in.
- 7:26Speaker 5: And every time they buckled it in, that's when I
- 7:30Speaker 5: felt like, Okay, this is the end. So I would
- 7:35Speaker 5: and don't tell anyone unbuckle it. And so there would
- 7:38Speaker 5: be times when, like you know, I'm in the middle
- 7:41Speaker 5: of like a challenge and the whole visor like flips
- 7:44Speaker 5: right up and they'd be like buckle your blazer or
- 7:47Speaker 5: your blazer, your visor. And but it was the only
- 7:52Speaker 5: way I could do it because I was like, there's
- 7:54Speaker 5: no air in here.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and then like Richard Sherman, he decided to really
- 8:01Speaker 2: kind of he was over Mars a lot of that
- 8:05Speaker 2: because there was so much hurry up and wait.
- 8:08Speaker 3: So we would have to really get to the.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Location of the challenge hours before we would participate in
- 8:15Speaker 2: the challenge because getting the suits on everyone would take
- 8:19Speaker 2: just as long.
- 8:20Speaker 3: As the challenge.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Yeah, the first mission that we did, I'm such like
- 8:24Speaker 5: an astronaut now doing missions. The first mission that we
- 8:29Speaker 5: did took six hours, and it was because they had
- 8:33Speaker 5: never put the costume on anyone before. They had to
- 8:37Speaker 5: figure out how to put it on ten people. It
- 8:41Speaker 5: was just it was chaos. And then like we held
- 8:44Speaker 5: at before we did the mission for like an hour,
- 8:48Speaker 5: and then we held back after for an hour and
- 8:53Speaker 5: a half or two hours. But the whole thing took
- 8:55Speaker 5: like five or six hours.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Okay, So I have so many questions here. The one
- 8:59Speaker 6: is and this is a shore and how often, like
- 9:01Speaker 6: what percentage of the day were you actually in your
- 9:04Speaker 6: helmet and space shoot suit.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I would say that maybe every other day.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Sometimes you'd have to do like a like a B
- 9:18Speaker 5: scene where it was like you had to do like
- 9:20Speaker 5: a chore and they would make you go and shoot
- 9:22Speaker 5: like a scene with someone else and it was like
- 9:25Speaker 5: you were doing chores and it was like to like
- 9:28Speaker 5: clean a.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Piece of or something.
- 9:32Speaker 5: I don't know, it was like, and so you'd have
- 9:34Speaker 5: to put the suit on to go shoot that scene.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I had to do something with Ronda Rousey in the
- 9:39Speaker 2: suit as a bee as a side project.
- 9:42Speaker 3: It was like my worst nightmare.
- 9:57Speaker 6: It's always impressive to me, you know, And let's group
- 10:01Speaker 6: the two of you into this. You know, you have
- 10:03Speaker 6: a bunch of you know, celebrities who are very successful
- 10:09Speaker 6: in whatever they've done, and they have certain standards for
- 10:13Speaker 6: care and for treatment. I've been around it, I've seen it.
- 10:19Speaker 6: I've been that person before you go on a show
- 10:22Speaker 6: like this and I and I've never done a reality
- 10:24Speaker 6: show where there's been a mixed bag of people kind
- 10:26Speaker 6: of coming in. What is the what is the the drama? Like,
- 10:32Speaker 6: maybe what is the attitudes like of all these celebrities
- 10:35Speaker 6: as they sit and wait and really heavy outfits, they're
- 10:39Speaker 6: running through the desert, They're being asked to clean you know,
- 10:41Speaker 6: toilets and floors, Like I can't imagine everybody's just going
- 10:46Speaker 6: with it because now they're on a show, So now
- 10:48Speaker 6: they're like super accommodatable and like cool.
- 10:51Speaker 5: I think that because it's like you have the living
- 10:54Speaker 5: situation of it all everybody, not everybody, but I think
- 10:59Speaker 5: everybody kind of like a balance of how to be
- 11:02Speaker 5: a roommate with everyone, And that felt totally separate of
- 11:06Speaker 5: the show of like of the things that they would
- 11:09Speaker 5: put us through while we were there. But I do
- 11:13Speaker 5: think that they were like I think Richard Sherman, he's
- 11:17Speaker 5: too rich to wait that long? Yes, not too rich to.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Wait, Adam, this was me okay.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So as soon as like, I may have done it
- 11:29Speaker 2: in the bunk, but as soon as I left Mars,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I googled these people's network. Oh yeah, I was like,
- 11:38Speaker 2: wait a second, why did they come here?
- 11:41Speaker 3: Ends of millions? I remember waiting. They came for fun.
- 11:45Speaker 3: They just truly came from.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Because they went because they were like, this is going
- 11:48Speaker 5: to be like space camp. I went, this is amazing
- 11:52Speaker 5: to make money. And so I remember that like in
- 11:57Speaker 5: the very beginning, you know, to season one of a
- 11:59Speaker 5: reality show. So there were there's like a lot of
- 12:01Speaker 5: like hiccups. One of them when we first got into.
- 12:07Speaker 3: The ab when we first got home our home.
- 12:13Speaker 5: When we first got there, before we got in, they
- 12:16Speaker 5: said to pack one suitcase. You're allowed to bring one
- 12:20Speaker 5: suitcase in and we will leave it in there for you.
- 12:24Speaker 5: We're like, okay, So I brought two suitcases. Basically I
- 12:27Speaker 5: brought like everything that I thought maybe I would need.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you I have no idea what you need.
- 12:34Speaker 3: We literally only needed underwear. They gave us everything else, yes,
- 12:37Speaker 3: and so I packed my one suitcase. I go in.
- 12:40Speaker 5: We shoot that scene of like everybody entering for the
- 12:43Speaker 5: first time, and then they're like, you know, go pick
- 12:46Speaker 5: up your bag. And then so we went and what
- 12:48Speaker 5: happened was there was like a miscommunication where it's like
- 12:52Speaker 5: the they went through all of our stuff to put
- 12:56Speaker 5: it in a box that looked like more space like,
- 13:00Speaker 5: so like they accidentally went through all of our stuff
- 13:04Speaker 5: and then like before you got there, we actually did
- 13:08Speaker 5: run out of food.
- 13:09Speaker 3: They just didn't.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, like they were freaking out. They're like, you actually
- 13:12Speaker 2: knew people. There's no food, like and all the food
- 13:15Speaker 2: we get is crappy and like because it was like
- 13:17Speaker 2: supposed to be like food that really only would be
- 13:20Speaker 2: surviving on Mars. Right.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Yeah, it was like mostly Eminem's That's mostly what I
- 13:26Speaker 5: ate while I was there. But what did you ask me?
- 13:32Speaker 5: And what am I talking about?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Okay, that's what I was gonna say. Well, I will
- 13:36Speaker 2: answer the question for myself. Ben said, who did you
- 13:41Speaker 2: like because it was a more of an all star cast, Yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and less of like a Bachelor cast or all newbies?
- 13:46Speaker 2: Did you feel like intimidated? Was there anybody who was
- 13:49Speaker 2: a diva? Was there anyone more humble than you would imagine?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Like for me, we walked in late, so I was
- 13:56Speaker 2: already in a position of like intimidation where I'm like, oh,
- 13:58Speaker 2: I'm the new kid here. But then also I gathered
- 14:04Speaker 2: very quickly that it wasn't a situation like the Bachelor
- 14:07Speaker 2: where everybody just bonds instantly because we're all in it together.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Like everybody here felt like they were just the most
- 14:14Speaker 2: confident people on earth. Because they truly were like the
- 14:17Speaker 2: top tier of all of whatever the things.
- 14:20Speaker 3: They're all their fields. So I was just shy. I
- 14:24Speaker 3: felt like I couldn't talk the first like five hours.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Well, also you came in and there was a big
- 14:31Speaker 5: fight before you got there.
- 14:33Speaker 3: That really like change the vibe that much.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Yes, okay, it was like a very it was like
- 14:40Speaker 5: a very jarring experience. Everybody had been we had like
- 14:44Speaker 5: just been having fun and whatever like, because at that
- 14:49Speaker 5: point there were a few people who were there who
- 14:53Speaker 5: were like, I need to go next. I can't do this,
- 14:56Speaker 5: like please vote me out next and be like okay,
- 15:00Speaker 5: and then you know, then there's some people who are
- 15:01Speaker 5: like no, no, I'll stay Okay, well I'll go next, Okay,
- 15:05Speaker 5: I'll go after you.
- 15:06Speaker 3: So it wasn't like there was no drama to it.
- 15:11Speaker 3: And then there was.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Like a big fight one night and it created this
- 15:16Speaker 5: like riff and so when you got there, everybody is
- 15:22Speaker 5: still like on edge.
- 15:24Speaker 6: That'd mean wild, I mean, and that's gonna be something
- 15:27Speaker 6: interesting to watch too, because you know, obviously Ashley's experiences
- 15:30Speaker 6: I have that the cast is incredible for this show
- 15:34Speaker 6: Stars on Mars has an incredible cast. They got some
- 15:37Speaker 6: amazing people to go over the two of you included, Adam,
- 15:42Speaker 6: you are very successful in your sport. You are an athlete,
- 15:47Speaker 6: and Ashley is my beautiful, wonderful co host who I
- 15:51Speaker 6: probably wouldn't say athlete would be a top ten but
- 15:57Speaker 6: she is competitive. She is very competitive, and she does
- 16:01Speaker 6: like to win, and she does like to have success
- 16:05Speaker 6: and whatever she's doing, do her.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Best, you know, like when it comes to like competition
- 16:09Speaker 2: with me, though, it's like can I win Bachelor Trivia?
- 16:11Speaker 3: I will turn up for Bachelor Trivia, but like.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Right, hey, let's sprint one hundred meters versus like a
- 16:17Speaker 6: Glance Armstrong Richard Truman. I'm saying Ashley is gonna give
- 16:20Speaker 6: you know, she's not getting that one.
- 16:22Speaker 4: So is it?
- 16:23Speaker 6: Was it interesting for you, Adam because you were there
- 16:25Speaker 6: for that first week, especially when people were helped, like
- 16:28Speaker 6: feeling good and excited to see these other professional athletes
- 16:35Speaker 6: and their competitive drive and like how they prepped to
- 16:38Speaker 6: win a competition.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Did you get to see that up close?
- 16:41Speaker 5: Yeah, But I'm gonna sae, this is what Okay, at
- 16:43Speaker 5: the end of the day, you're pretending you're on Mars
- 16:48Speaker 5: and it's a reality show and So my favorite thing
- 16:53Speaker 5: is like when they would talk about like who's gonna
- 16:57Speaker 5: make it all the way or who's going.
- 16:59Speaker 3: To do this?
- 17:02Speaker 5: The other athletes and some of the people on other
- 17:06Speaker 5: people in the cast would be like, well, we need
- 17:09Speaker 5: them here because we need strength on Mars. And I'm like,
- 17:13Speaker 5: what do you mean we need strength on Mars Marshawn
- 17:16Speaker 5: doesn't clean any dishes.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Ra there's somebody who's gonna wash a dish, then strength
- 17:24Speaker 3: on Mars.
- 17:24Speaker 5: I'm like, you know, if that satellite falls down again,
- 17:28Speaker 5: we're not actually gonna lose connection to Earth. I'm like,
- 17:31Speaker 5: what are you talking about? But you could see everybody's competitive,
- 17:37Speaker 5: And I think that like everybody had their their own
- 17:41Speaker 5: way of being competitive. And I think with like the
- 17:45Speaker 5: athletes specifically, is that like when it was really physical,
- 17:52Speaker 5: you could see people who have done a lot of
- 17:54Speaker 5: physical things at varying levels, but like you could see
- 17:57Speaker 5: the focus in like the Wuyet intensity of like everybody
- 18:03Speaker 5: when they were in these like physical challenges. For sure,
- 18:07Speaker 5: when I do physical things, I don't talk at all.
- 18:10Speaker 4: You're in it. You're in it.
- 18:12Speaker 6: So did the two of you ever start to actually
- 18:14Speaker 6: think you're on Mars? Like did that ever happen in
- 18:16Speaker 6: your mind where you at one moment had like a
- 18:19Speaker 6: weird like week point of weakness and you're like, I'm
- 18:22Speaker 6: living on Mars and you forgot that you're on Earth
- 18:25Speaker 6: in the middle of the outback.
- 18:26Speaker 2: No, but I will say what I thought about a
- 18:29Speaker 2: lot was how anybody lived where we were in the
- 18:33Speaker 2: outback of Australia. So the nearest like they go to,
- 18:38Speaker 2: they go to Kmart. The nearest Kmart is an eight
- 18:42Speaker 2: in something hour drive, so it's like us like the
- 18:44Speaker 2: nearest target being like or Walmart being eight hours away,
- 18:48Speaker 2: like their nearest like big conveniences were eight hours away.
- 18:51Speaker 2: And the population of this town was two thousand and
- 18:56Speaker 2: like when you're in the plane. So the s is
- 19:00Speaker 2: actually adventure that I went went through getting there was
- 19:04Speaker 2: I took four planes to get there.
- 19:07Speaker 3: But the last plane, where did you fly from?
- 19:10Speaker 2: I flew from I was leaving from DC, Okay, and
- 19:14Speaker 2: then I went to San Francisco, and then I went
- 19:17Speaker 2: to Melbourne, and then I went to Adelaide, and then
- 19:22Speaker 2: I went to the middle of nowhere. So when you're
- 19:25Speaker 2: going from Adelaide to the middle of nowhere, it's a
- 19:27Speaker 2: little bit less of a two hour flight. And guys,
- 19:30Speaker 2: it was a prop plane, but like one that wasn't
- 19:32Speaker 2: a celebrity jet plane. It's one of the ones where
- 19:35Speaker 2: like people, there's like one that goes down every day
- 19:37Speaker 2: in the world.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Yeah, or they lose it on like on the satellite.
- 19:41Speaker 5: They're like, we'll never see Yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 3: So here I am with like an Amelia Heart and
- 19:47Speaker 3: still missing. Yeah, she's.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So I'm with Kat Cora, Paul Pierce, Andy Richter, and
- 19:54Speaker 2: I'm like, we are all go, We're gonna go down.
- 19:57Speaker 2: The guy who's packing our suit ca onto the four
- 20:01Speaker 2: seater play. It's four seats and then there's two seats
- 20:04Speaker 2: in the front. The guy who's packing it up. I go,
- 20:07Speaker 2: are you the pilot? And he goes and no, And
- 20:09Speaker 2: then all of a sudden he gets in the captain's
- 20:11Speaker 2: seat and he is the pilot.
- 20:12Speaker 3: He was just joking with me. And then there's no.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Co captain and I'm like, if this guy has a
- 20:19Speaker 2: heart attack, we're conners. And it was a two hour
- 20:24Speaker 2: so but then again, yeah, okay, so almost a two
- 20:26Speaker 2: hour flight to the middle of nowhere, and when you
- 20:27Speaker 2: are flying over no society, no one, and I'm like
- 20:33Speaker 2: I got stressed.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Thinking of all the people that live in that town.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Yeah, when they go to the dentist, to the doctor,
- 20:39Speaker 5: they have to like plan it out to fly into Adelaide.
- 20:43Speaker 6: Yeah, two thousand people's quite a bit of people too,
- 20:46Speaker 6: It is, it is.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I grew up in Indiana.
- 20:51Speaker 6: There's towns of seven hundred and nine hundred everywhere, So
- 20:54Speaker 6: two thousand people isn't a small I mean it's small,
- 20:57Speaker 6: but it's not like the you know that no nobody
- 21:00Speaker 6: lives out there.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It's a mining town. Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 5: And and also it gets so hot there that a
- 21:06Speaker 5: lot of the living situations are underground and living caves.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Guys.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Yes, that's so interesting.
- 21:23Speaker 6: So, Adam, after being on this show, would you ever
- 21:27Speaker 6: I if they called you next and they said, hey,
- 21:29Speaker 6: we're we got a better budget, the show did really well.
- 21:32Speaker 6: We're actually going to Mars. We're gonna we're gonna take off,
- 21:36Speaker 6: We're living Mars for a month.
- 21:38Speaker 4: You're coming with us. Would you say yes to that?
- 21:40Speaker 3: Nor?
- 21:44Speaker 5: I couldn't say, you think I'm actually gonna go to Mars?
- 21:47Speaker 4: No? I don't know.
- 21:50Speaker 5: No, I never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever would do that.
- 21:54Speaker 3: That's insane. Desire. I have no desire to leave Earth.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I barely had a desire to go to that outback.
- 22:02Speaker 6: So I mean the fault that would be Okay, so
- 22:04Speaker 6: you've done the show, you're back now. If you were
- 22:07Speaker 6: on the show, would you watch it?
- 22:09Speaker 5: I yes, because okay, I would watch it because my
- 22:13Speaker 5: taste level is Middle America and so like I love
- 22:18Speaker 5: like Master Chef, I love you know those shows.
- 22:22Speaker 3: And before.
- 22:26Speaker 5: I watched the show, I was like, I, you know,
- 22:28Speaker 5: I hope it's good. I hope it's you know, whatever,
- 22:31Speaker 5: I'm sucked in. Even if I wasn't on the show,
- 22:34Speaker 5: I would be watching it because it's just dumb enough
- 22:37Speaker 5: to be really fun, okay, because it's like Big Brother.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Huh or like Surreal Life.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Yes, it's something like that, but it's like there's this
- 22:48Speaker 5: weird twist that makes it different. And I think it's
- 22:52Speaker 5: so funny when people start talking about like, well on Mars,
- 22:56Speaker 5: we need like just so if I love that. So
- 22:58Speaker 5: I actually really like this show. I'm gonna if they
- 23:01Speaker 5: do more seasons, which I think that they're going to do,
- 23:06Speaker 5: I'm going to watch them because I do enjoy watching
- 23:09Speaker 5: it a lot.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Would you watch it?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Ashley Yeah, for sure. It's a lot more tongue in
- 23:14Speaker 3: cheek then I thought it.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Was going to be edited to be because when we
- 23:18Speaker 2: were in those interview rooms, I was like the producer
- 23:23Speaker 2: behind the screen, because guys, unlike The Bachelor or we're
- 23:26Speaker 2: talking directly to somebody in the room, they had you
- 23:30Speaker 2: basically talking to a speaker. You're in the room by yourself,
- 23:34Speaker 2: and the questions are like dead serious, or like what
- 23:37Speaker 2: do you think that you bring to the Mars team?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Like is there a skill that you have that will
- 23:42Speaker 2: help them survive on Mars? Or like they're dead serious,
- 23:45Speaker 2: which is money. Yeah, on the show, it comes across
- 23:49Speaker 2: like what do you.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Bring to Mars? And you just flew in from DC?
- 23:55Speaker 2: All right, Adam, I got a question who were you
- 23:58Speaker 2: most starstruck by?
- 24:00Speaker 3: And did you know the cast before you walked in there?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Because I knew the cast going in there because they
- 24:04Speaker 2: had released your names a couple of days before I landed.
- 24:08Speaker 3: I did not know the cast.
- 24:10Speaker 5: They wouldn't and when we got there, since it was
- 24:13Speaker 5: like the beginning of the show, they tried to stagger
- 24:17Speaker 5: us in so that we wouldn't know who anybody was
- 24:21Speaker 5: before we got there.
- 24:24Speaker 3: But I didn't cheat, but I did a little bit.
- 24:28Speaker 3: You saw you saw the sheets that they had.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Well, I saw when we were getting our like final
- 24:33Speaker 5: fitting for the costume, like the day we were about
- 24:36Speaker 5: to go in. I saw first names on all of
- 24:41Speaker 5: the costumes, and so I was trying to put together
- 24:45Speaker 5: what I got. So I saw like Porsche and I
- 24:48Speaker 5: was like, I'm assuming that's Porsha Williams from Atlanta Housewives.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I saw Tanache and I went, she doesn't use her
- 24:55Speaker 5: last name, it's going to be Tanache. I saw Ariel
- 24:59Speaker 5: and I was like, Okay, I think Aeriel Winter. I
- 25:03Speaker 5: saw Ronda and I was like, oh, Ronda Rousey.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 5: And I think Ronda was probably the person that I
- 25:11Speaker 5: was most taken back with what sense in the sense
- 25:16Speaker 5: that like, uh, I don't know, I just I've I've
- 25:21Speaker 5: watched her like compete before, and.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 25:28Speaker 5: I just think that she's like a really impressive person.
- 25:31Speaker 5: And I think that like she's super nice and like
- 25:36Speaker 5: very kind. And I think that it was like the
- 25:39Speaker 5: way that I had always seen her. I wasn't expecting
- 25:41Speaker 5: her to be so nice. So I think that that
- 25:45Speaker 5: was the thing that shook me up the most okay.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Yeah, she's like far more like motherly and gender.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Yes, very gentle. She's like a cartoon, like a good
- 25:57Speaker 5: like a Dragon ball Z character.
- 26:01Speaker 2: For me, it was I was excited to see Richard
- 26:04Speaker 2: Sherman and Marshawn Lynch in competition together, like I wanted
- 26:08Speaker 2: to see like their bromance. I loved the Seahawks back
- 26:12Speaker 2: in the day when they had the Legion of Boom
- 26:14Speaker 2: and all that, so I was excited to see that.
- 26:16Speaker 2: But when I got there, Richard was gone. But it
- 26:19Speaker 2: was okay because Marshawn really delivered, like he really didn't.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Holy moly, so funny, multifaceted right, Like he can go
- 26:28Speaker 2: from having a serious, like emotional conversation to just say
- 26:32Speaker 2: the most outrageous thing the next second.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 5: He brought his own Hennessy, which I think is so funny.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Smart, What are you gonna have on? Mars He's like,
- 26:44Speaker 4: I know how this is gonna go.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I know how this is gonna go. Here's my
- 26:48Speaker 5: one suitcase. He packed one hoodie and four bottles of Hennessy,
- 26:52Speaker 5: which was so brilliant.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Love. I love that man. Man. I would have him
- 26:57Speaker 4: all the time.
- 26:58Speaker 2: You would have loved him, you would have had a
- 27:01Speaker 2: field day.
- 27:02Speaker 6: I would have loved it. Hey, Adam, we're gonna let
- 27:04Speaker 6: you go here soon again. You're starring in Stars on
- 27:07Speaker 6: Mars alongside our wonderful co host here at the almost
- 27:10Speaker 6: famous podcast Ashley II, Kennettie Haven and Adam. Before they go,
- 27:16Speaker 6: I do want to highlight that you have two incredible podcasts,
- 27:20Speaker 6: Normalize This, and the run through tell us a little
- 27:23Speaker 6: bit about those podcasts where we can listen to them,
- 27:25Speaker 6: what they're about, and before we say goodbye.
- 27:29Speaker 5: So the run through is very niche. So if you're
- 27:32Speaker 5: a figure skating fan, you'll love it because it's me
- 27:36Speaker 5: and one of my really good figure skating friends, Ashley Wagner,
- 27:39Speaker 5: and we just talk figure skating stuff. I don't have,
- 27:42Speaker 5: like anybody to talk figure skating stuff anymore, so that's
- 27:45Speaker 5: my outlet. And then Normalize This I co host with
- 27:49Speaker 5: my amazing co host Danielle Young, and we just talk
- 27:52Speaker 5: about different topics and culture and whether we should normalize them.
- 27:57Speaker 5: And it's usually just me going off on a tangent
- 28:01Speaker 5: the entire time and then Danielle having to deal with
- 28:05Speaker 5: me and rain me back in, which is a fantastic job.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Can you give us an example of one of those rambles.
- 28:12Speaker 5: So we usually talk about like anything, but like sometimes
- 28:18Speaker 5: we'll talk about like heavier things, like we talked about
- 28:20Speaker 5: like death, and we talked about religion, and we talked
- 28:22Speaker 5: about like when your parents get older. I think sometimes
- 28:25Speaker 5: you know, like when we talked about something your parents
- 28:27Speaker 5: getting older, I went into like a tangent of like
- 28:30Speaker 5: how I am going to continue to get like laser
- 28:33Speaker 5: work done on my face so I don't look older.
- 28:35Speaker 5: And I talked about it for about twenty minutes, which
- 28:38Speaker 5: is important to me.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I agree too, I'm like stressed that I haven't had
- 28:43Speaker 2: a laser in over year.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I like it when you, Adam, I got to respect
- 28:46Speaker 6: that when you start talking about your parents getting older,
- 28:48Speaker 6: your mind goes to but I'm getting lasers done, and
- 28:51Speaker 6: that's what I'm passionate about.
- 28:52Speaker 2: See, I thought you were going to talk about parents dying.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Your parents dying is the scariest thing.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Right because your parents can get old, but that's on
- 29:00Speaker 5: their watch. But my skin is not going to lose
- 29:03Speaker 5: its elasticity.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Adam. We should have talked about this on Mars, I know,
- 29:08Speaker 3: but I was on a beta blocker.
- 29:09Speaker 6: And Adam I guess our listeners will be upset. They
- 29:17Speaker 6: want to know because they're fans of yours. Do you
- 29:19Speaker 6: still skate at all? Like for fun?
- 29:21Speaker 5: Yes, I do a little bit here and there, Like
- 29:24Speaker 5: sometimes I'll skate and I'll be like, wait, when was
- 29:26Speaker 5: the last time I did this? So I was like, oh,
- 29:28Speaker 5: three months ago.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I just I don't I go. Actually, when I where
- 29:31Speaker 3: I go work out.
- 29:32Speaker 5: I work out at the gym that's like connected to
- 29:36Speaker 5: the rink that I used to train at, because I'll
- 29:38Speaker 5: go visit like my friends who are like coaches and
- 29:41Speaker 5: work at the rink, so I go there often. I
- 29:44Speaker 5: just don't get on the ice all the time, but
- 29:46Speaker 5: I do love it, so we all have to go
- 29:48Speaker 5: one day.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I'll give you both a lesson. It would be so fun.
- 29:51Speaker 2: We were on Bachelor Winter Games together. Ben doesn't need
- 29:54Speaker 2: a listen, he doesn't need a lesson. He's very talented.
- 29:59Speaker 4: It not it skating.
- 30:00Speaker 2: I mean, I you, I remember it took you a
- 30:03Speaker 2: few rounds around the rink, but before you know it,
- 30:06Speaker 2: you were skating by me. And I was like, oh, guys,
- 30:08Speaker 2: I used to skate as a kid, Like I'll.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Be able to stand and here's the thing.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I am able to stand, and I'm able to knock
- 30:14Speaker 2: cling on the wall, but I.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Will go slow as molasses and.
- 30:17Speaker 2: All these other super athletic people or just caught on
- 30:22Speaker 2: so quickly.
- 30:23Speaker 6: You know, the best would have been if they brought
- 30:25Speaker 6: in at him and he just goes backwards and passes
- 30:28Speaker 6: me by seven laps.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Before Nancy Kerrigan come in.
- 30:32Speaker 4: That's true, that's fun.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm super pumped for this show. I'm super pumped
- 30:38Speaker 6: that you're on it. Ashley talks very highly of you.
- 30:41Speaker 6: Thanks for coming on the Almost Miss podcast promoting the show.
- 30:44Speaker 6: And do you watch the Bachelor Bachelor at all?
- 30:46Speaker 4: Be honest? No, okay, that's fair.
- 30:49Speaker 5: I'm scared of it because that's I'll see like visions
- 30:52Speaker 5: of myself having having breakdown. So that's why that's fair.
- 30:56Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 30:57Speaker 6: Well, if you ever want to tune in, let us
- 30:59Speaker 6: know and then come back. I can break down an
- 31:00Speaker 6: episode with us. But until next time.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Oh wait, now I'll do that.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I would appreciate it.
- 31:06Speaker 6: So hey, the two stars of Stars on Mars, Ashley
- 31:10Speaker 6: and Adam joined us today. We're gonna keep talking about
- 31:13Speaker 6: this show because obviously Ashley's on it. And we want
- 31:16Speaker 6: to support the show in any way we can. But
- 31:18Speaker 6: it sounds fun, it sounds exciting. It sounds like chaos,
- 31:21Speaker 6: it sounds like a mess, and that's what we love
- 31:22Speaker 6: to watch. So until next time, I've been Ben.
- 31:25Speaker 3: I've been Ashley, and I'm Adam RIPHN.
- 31:28Speaker 4: That's all right, let's go, but
- 31:32Speaker 1: Follow the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast on
- 31:35Speaker 1: iHeartRadio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
