- 0:22Speaker 1: What's up, folks.
- 0:23Speaker 2: You're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:26Speaker 2: Sports Table podcast show, the longest running week weekly sports
- 0:29Speaker 2: podcast show in the world, twelve and a half years strong.
- 0:32Speaker 2: The Philadelphia Eagles Wow. Amazingly enough, what do we got
- 0:37Speaker 2: week eleven here as they beat the Deepfroit Lions down
- 0:41Speaker 2: at the link by a score of sixteen to nine.
- 0:45Speaker 1: What an amazing game from this Eagles defense.
- 0:48Speaker 2: A total crapper once again by the Eagles offense. I
- 0:53Speaker 2: am Jeff Warren here, I'm a good friend Josh Schuster
- 0:57Speaker 2: from Philadelphia soccernow dot com.
- 0:59Speaker 1: We're gonna dive into our our analysis, give our.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Themes, and then grade by unit first and foremost, Josh,
- 1:05Speaker 2: good to see you, buddy, and thanks for filling in
- 1:07Speaker 2: for the guys.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Really appreciate it, man anytime.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Jeff, It's always good to I don't know the word
- 1:14Speaker 3: I want to use, but talk.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Philly sports, Philly sports man, Yes I have.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I guess the best way to phrase it from this
- 1:22Speaker 3: game is I'm in a glass case of emotions from Anchorman.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Oh God, yeah, about this game. I have many, many, many.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Emotions with this game, many emotions which We're going to
- 1:33Speaker 2: be diving into, folks as we get into our themes,
- 1:35Speaker 2: but first and foremost talk about injuries. Man, Lane Johnson
- 1:39Speaker 2: just cannot stay healthy. If you're watching on YouTube, I'm
- 1:42Speaker 2: actually wearing his jersey. I actually got this jersey his
- 1:45Speaker 2: rookie season down at the Eagles Pro shop at the Link.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I love it, and I love Lane Johnson, but I
- 1:51Speaker 2: don't love the fact that he just cannot stay healthy.
- 1:55Speaker 2: The guy is definitely a warrior, but every game as
- 1:57Speaker 2: of late, he's having to leave with some sort of injury.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Today he was out in the first quarter with a
- 2:02Speaker 2: foot injury. Fred Johnson came in and played respectably, I believe,
- 2:09Speaker 2: and for the most part, we'll get into some of
- 2:11Speaker 2: the I'm gonna get into some offensive.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Line talking a bit, for sure, folks.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Cam Jurgens also left the game in the fourth quarter
- 2:18Speaker 2: with about I think it was about three minutes and
- 2:20Speaker 2: thirty seconds left in the game. That poor guy's just
- 2:23Speaker 2: been nursing injuries throughout this whole season as well. Josh,
- 2:27Speaker 2: we just get get into the shit of this Eagles
- 2:30Speaker 2: offense right off the bat, you know, because I want
- 2:34Speaker 2: to end like with something good before we go to
- 2:36Speaker 2: the break.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I want to end with the defense, So why don't
- 2:39Speaker 1: we do that?
- 2:39Speaker 2: Okay, let's talk about this dog shit offense of the
- 2:44Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles were last week. They were only able to
- 2:48Speaker 2: score ten points up in Green Bay, but the defense
- 2:51Speaker 2: was absolutely lights out.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Again, we'll get to the defense.
- 2:55Speaker 2: This defense is Super Bowl worthy, the offense not even close.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And I'm going to kind of go off a little
- 3:01Speaker 2: bit here for a couple of minutes, so stick with
- 3:04Speaker 2: me here, coming.
- 3:05Speaker 3: In, fireway man, fire away.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Look.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Coming into this game, the theme really was what would
- 3:12Speaker 2: this Eagles offense look like after what we saw up
- 3:14Speaker 2: in Green Bay last week? And I'm going to preface
- 3:16Speaker 2: this by saying that the Philadelphia Eagles have the most
- 3:20Speaker 2: expensive offense in the NFL by a significant margin, and
- 3:25Speaker 2: they are fucking terrible offense here at this point. And
- 3:29Speaker 2: I'm not feeling good about this. I mean, there are
- 3:32Speaker 2: such long stretches here, Josh, where they actually look hopelessly
- 3:36Speaker 2: inept at almost every turn, and it's happening every week.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Here.
- 3:41Speaker 2: First two possessions of the game, the opening drive and
- 3:44Speaker 2: then three plays after the Cooper dejen interception, the Eagles
- 3:48Speaker 2: were only able to put up on offense twenty yards
- 3:52Speaker 2: on those two possessions. Now, let's fast forward a little
- 3:55Speaker 2: bit the next I should say, their first seven possessions.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Six of those first seven possessions they were third and long.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And what did those third downs look like? Those third
- 4:08Speaker 2: and longs, third and ten, third and fifteen, third and eight,
- 4:13Speaker 2: another third and eight, a third and ten and a
- 4:17Speaker 2: third and eleven. Just a couple minutes into the second quarter.
- 4:22Speaker 2: They then ran nineteen plays for forty four yards. Just brutal,
- 4:26Speaker 2: Just absolutely brutal. That's how not to get momentum in
- 4:31Speaker 2: the National Football League. That's how offenses don't get momentum,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and especially in front of.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Your home crowd.
- 4:41Speaker 2: There is a disconnect somewhere within this offense, whether it
- 4:45Speaker 2: is with coaching, whether it's the offensive line, whether it's
- 4:48Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts him getting on the same page as his receivers.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Perhaps it's all of it, Josh, but there is huge
- 4:56Speaker 2: issues going on. Yet they play a team like the
- 4:58Speaker 2: Green Bay Packers, who are p a good team. They're not,
- 5:01Speaker 2: they're not the greatest team this season, but they're a
- 5:03Speaker 2: pretty good team. And yes they squeak out a win,
- 5:07Speaker 2: they squeak out another win against the Detroit Lions, another
- 5:10Speaker 2: very good team. Yes, there were some injuries to the
- 5:12Speaker 2: Lions heading into this game, but man, this offense is nowhere, nowhere,
- 5:18Speaker 2: and I'd love to get your thoughts here.
- 5:23Speaker 3: So I think if we're looking at the last two weeks,
- 5:27Speaker 3: I think this week was worse than last week. Okay
- 5:31Speaker 3: because I think, well, no, I think the defense set
- 5:36Speaker 3: the offense up multiple times for them to be able
- 5:40Speaker 3: to do something other field goals, and that's all the
- 5:45Speaker 3: Eagles could muster. There is a great level of concern
- 5:51Speaker 3: and I'm not I'm not blaming a J. Brown. There
- 5:56Speaker 3: is and I text you this, there is a great
- 6:00Speaker 3: disconnect right now between Jalen Hurts and the wide receivers. Yes,
- 6:05Speaker 3: I don't understand. And the thing I think I have
- 6:10Speaker 3: the hardest time with is how you have Jalen Hurts,
- 6:15Speaker 3: who I think is a I would say top five quarterback.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I feel comfortable saying that. I think he's a top
- 6:22Speaker 3: five quarterback in the league. I don't understand how you
- 6:26Speaker 3: can have a top five quarterback in the league. How
- 6:29Speaker 3: you can have AJ Brown and DeVante Smith but you're
- 6:32Speaker 3: unable to use both wide receivers at the same time,
- 6:36Speaker 3: you also have what I would view as a top
- 6:39Speaker 3: half tight end right in, and I'll bring in fantasy
- 6:43Speaker 3: in this terms. Most tight ends in fantasy are streamable.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Now for the most part, you have to play Dallas
- 6:50Speaker 3: Goddard because they do shovel passes to him and he
- 6:53Speaker 3: gets touchdowns or he's targeted often over the middle. I
- 6:58Speaker 3: don't understand how you can have those three receiving options
- 7:02Speaker 3: with Saquon Barkley as you're running back, and the only
- 7:07Speaker 3: way the defense or the offense gets a spark is
- 7:10Speaker 3: when ten Biggsby comes in and runs like two straight
- 7:15Speaker 3: ten yard games. I'm having a very and I've been
- 7:20Speaker 3: very consistent from the very beginning of the season when
- 7:23Speaker 3: I've started doing these. Well, not this year, but I've
- 7:27Speaker 3: been very consistent since the beginning of the season. In
- 7:29Speaker 3: the postgame shows where I'm going to be harder on
- 7:32Speaker 3: the offense than the defense, because literally the defense is
- 7:36Speaker 3: like patchwork. It's a bunch of draft picks. They have
- 7:40Speaker 3: hardly any money invested in the defense, and here we
- 7:46Speaker 3: are where the defense is going to have to be
- 7:48Speaker 3: out the offense. Once again, I don't want to give
- 7:52Speaker 3: credence to reports that there are issues with the offense
- 7:59Speaker 3: in terms of the players having issues with Jalen Hurts,
- 8:03Speaker 3: but at some point you have to look at the
- 8:06Speaker 3: last two weeks. It has been horrible. I'm gonna set
- 8:09Speaker 3: the Giants game aside because the Giants are just a
- 8:13Speaker 3: miserable franchise right now. And so if you're going to say, well,
- 8:16Speaker 3: the offense came together for that, I'm like, they're just
- 8:20Speaker 3: They're just a mess. Like just be thinking you're not
- 8:23Speaker 3: a fan of one of the New York football teams
- 8:25Speaker 3: right now. They're just a total mess, both of them.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I just I don't understand how this offense has such
- 8:34Speaker 3: a problem, especially considering how much they were set up
- 8:39Speaker 3: by the defense. That's really where my main issue is.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I mean, I'm looking at Jalen Hurts' numbers. He he
- 8:46Speaker 3: completed fifty percent of his passage passes. He completed fourteen
- 8:50Speaker 3: passes tonight. That is not good, and didn't even manage
- 8:55Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty yards.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah, only four point eight yards per attempt.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Correct, And in order for him to hit one hundred
- 9:04Speaker 3: and fifty total yards of rushing and passing, you have
- 9:08Speaker 3: to add in his thirty yards rushing. I mean, it
- 9:12Speaker 3: was just I'm not sure if a root canal is
- 9:16Speaker 3: more pleasant than watching the Eagles offense right now, right,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but it's it's pretty close to a tie. Yeah, and
- 9:24Speaker 3: that's not good.
- 9:26Speaker 2: But where does it start from? But where does this
- 9:29Speaker 2: start from? On the field? Right Because I'm thinking during
- 9:33Speaker 2: this game, Josh that for years and years and years,
- 9:38Speaker 2: we are so grateful to have an offensive line coach
- 9:42Speaker 2: like Jeff Staltlin, And I'm wondering what the hell is
- 9:45Speaker 2: going on here because these guys don't necessarily seem to
- 9:50Speaker 2: be very coachable right now at this point. The Eagles
- 9:53Speaker 2: run blocking is absolutely horrendous. It was horrendous last week.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It's been horrendous just about all c When Sakuon Barkley
- 10:01Speaker 2: coming into this game is averaging three point nine yards
- 10:04Speaker 2: per carry, that's a problem. He averaged three point two
- 10:07Speaker 2: yards per carry on twenty six carries.
- 10:10Speaker 1: In this game.
- 10:11Speaker 2: You have undisciplined guys on the offensive line are that
- 10:17Speaker 2: It's just mind boggling. Last week, Jordan Mailatta had two
- 10:20Speaker 2: false start penalties. In this game, he had a holding penalties.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Tyler Steen was absolutely brutal throughout this game in run
- 10:28Speaker 2: blocking and in pass protection. You see him throughout this
- 10:32Speaker 2: game just standing up because he's missed a block, or
- 10:36Speaker 2: he's standing around like he's just missed something.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You know.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Then you got Darius Cooper with a false start when
- 10:43Speaker 2: they're trying to do the tush push in the fourth quarter.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Why is he even out there? Fred Johnson with a
- 10:48Speaker 2: false start at the end of the game. There's a
- 10:50Speaker 2: lot of undisciplined play coming from the offense, but it's
- 10:55Speaker 2: really starting with the offensive line. I know Darius Cooper
- 10:58Speaker 2: just mentioned him. He's not part of the offensive line,
- 11:00Speaker 2: but still it's undisciplined, an undisciplined nature coming from this
- 11:05Speaker 2: offensive just from the offense in general, but with the line.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I don't understand what's happening when you have a coach
- 11:11Speaker 2: like Jeff Staltlin, who has been so good with so many,
- 11:15Speaker 2: so many guys who aren't even that talented, and we're
- 11:19Speaker 2: having these issues. I wonder if it's injury. I don't
- 11:22Speaker 2: want to make excuses necessarily for these guys. I mean
- 11:24Speaker 2: Cam Jurgens again out in the fourth quarter, leaving with
- 11:27Speaker 2: about you know, three minutes left in the game, Josh,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I don't know what it is, but it starts with
- 11:32Speaker 2: the offensive line, because what do we say all the time,
- 11:35Speaker 2: have been on this podcast for quite some time, as
- 11:37Speaker 2: we talked to various scouts over the years, everything starts
- 11:41Speaker 2: with the line. If you don't have a solid offensive line,
- 11:43Speaker 2: you're not going to have a rushing attack.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You're not going to have a passing attack. That's where
- 11:47Speaker 1: it starts.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And we don't know what is actually happening here, but
- 11:51Speaker 2: this is this is I believe the core of the
- 11:53Speaker 2: problem on the field.
- 11:55Speaker 3: So I have a couple of theories on this, Jeff
- 11:58Speaker 3: all Right, I think what it is is it's a
- 12:00Speaker 3: combination of things. I don't think it's just one thing.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I think the reality is and I kind of talked
- 12:09Speaker 3: about it two years ago, like when Kelsey was still
- 12:11Speaker 3: playing that Jalen Hurts is not the one that calls
- 12:15Speaker 3: out the blitzes. It's the center, right And so with
- 12:19Speaker 3: him retiring, the problem is the center they have replacing
- 12:24Speaker 3: him is a good player if he's able to actually
- 12:28Speaker 3: suit up and play the whole game right the cam
- 12:32Speaker 3: Jurgens is not playing a full game right now, and
- 12:36Speaker 3: so the reality is I think part of one issue
- 12:39Speaker 3: is Hurts is now responsible for diagnosing the defense. I
- 12:46Speaker 3: wouldn't say that's his strong suit. I think there's a
- 12:49Speaker 3: lot of strong suits of Jalen Hurts, and I think
- 12:52Speaker 3: he's adequate at it. I'm not saying he's bad at it.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I'm saying he's passable at it. But in terms of
- 12:58Speaker 3: going from Jason Kelcey diagnosing a defense to Jalen Hurts,
- 13:03Speaker 3: that's a large step back, especially if you're going to
- 13:07Speaker 3: rely on your center who's not really able to play.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yes, and there's hiccups with it. Yes.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Correct. The second problem is there's been leadership change, and
- 13:19Speaker 3: I don't know that the offensive line has been able
- 13:24Speaker 3: to adjust that. Right Like, Jordan Malatta has his own
- 13:28Speaker 3: show on WIP, and I'm not saying I'm not blaming
- 13:31Speaker 3: WIP for the problems on the offensive line. It feels
- 13:35Speaker 3: like he has been forced into this leadership role. I
- 13:40Speaker 3: don't know that he's actually a leader, right Like, I
- 13:43Speaker 3: don't know because I'm not in the locker room and
- 13:45Speaker 3: I'm not going to speculate. I feel like that's pretty reckless.
- 13:50Speaker 3: I do know for sure that Jason Kelsey was a
- 13:53Speaker 3: leader on this team. Yes, I feel like that leadership
- 13:57Speaker 3: is missing, and because Lane Johnson This goes into the
- 14:00Speaker 3: third part of the problem because Lane Johnson and you
- 14:05Speaker 3: use the term warrior, and he absolutely is. But I
- 14:08Speaker 3: think that sometimes players are warriors to a fault. And
- 14:12Speaker 3: what I mean by that is, rather than taking a
- 14:15Speaker 3: week to rest to be in better shape for the
- 14:18Speaker 3: following week, I put Lane Johnson in this category. He
- 14:23Speaker 3: feels that he's needed, he's gonna suit up, he's gonna
- 14:27Speaker 3: give it a go. And now the problem is you've
- 14:30Speaker 3: had Lane Johnson prepping all week, not necessarily the backups,
- 14:35Speaker 3: and Lane Johnson has gone at the end of the
- 14:37Speaker 3: first quarter or the second quarter, and now you're stuck. Yes,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I think it's a multifaceted problem, and I don't think
- 14:45Speaker 3: it's a Jeff Staltlin problem because I think there's a
- 14:47Speaker 3: fourth problem. I told you this is this is multifaceted.
- 14:51Speaker 3: It is when when you win Super Bowls, teams poach
- 14:56Speaker 3: your players, whether they're really good or whether they're just okay.
- 15:00Speaker 3: But the reality is, a really good backup is something
- 15:05Speaker 3: that's really hard to come by. And the Eagles have
- 15:09Speaker 3: lost players on the offensive line that were backups and
- 15:13Speaker 3: also starters to other teams. And when that happens and
- 15:18Speaker 3: you're not drafting with high picks, meaning first or second
- 15:22Speaker 3: round with offensive linemen. Offensive line is very very hard
- 15:28Speaker 3: to draft late Jason Kelce being an exception and Jordan
- 15:32Speaker 3: Myliada being an exception. I'm not going to put basically
- 15:36Speaker 3: a Hall of Fame sixth round pick and a basically
- 15:39Speaker 3: Hall of Fame seventh round pick as standards. That's a
- 15:43Speaker 3: very rare exception.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:45Speaker 3: When you have these types of players that are no
- 15:48Speaker 3: longer backups but are starters or moving up the depth chart.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Rather than being the third option, they're now the second option,
- 15:57Speaker 3: it really creates a challenge, and I just think it's
- 16:00Speaker 3: a lot for Jeff Statlin to try to be able
- 16:03Speaker 3: to manage. And it's not his fault, it's just the
- 16:06Speaker 3: reality of he's working with whatever he has. I really
- 16:11Speaker 3: think it would be good for Lane Johnson to just
- 16:13Speaker 3: take a week rest a little more get healthier for
- 16:17Speaker 3: the playoffs because at this point, I mean, the Eagles
- 16:21Speaker 3: are going to the playoffs. It's literally just a matter
- 16:23Speaker 3: of seating now where they're going to be. The NFC
- 16:25Speaker 3: East is, like we can say it's a trash division
- 16:29Speaker 3: this year. It wasn't anticipated being that way, but it's
- 16:33Speaker 3: a trash division. Yes, he needs to get healthy for
- 16:36Speaker 3: the playoffs, and that's what I think really kind of
- 16:38Speaker 3: the main priority is because it's going to have ripple
- 16:41Speaker 3: effects in terms of backups getting to play. A long answer,
- 16:46Speaker 3: but there you get.
- 16:47Speaker 2: But that's what's needed to be talked about the details
- 16:52Speaker 2: of this offensive line because if the offensive line isn't healthy,
- 16:55Speaker 2: if the offensive line isn't able to perform the way
- 16:57Speaker 2: they need to perform, then who gives a shit about
- 17:00Speaker 2: Saquon Barkley and his three point nine yards per attempt
- 17:04Speaker 2: coming into this game? Who gives a shit whether or
- 17:07Speaker 2: not aj Brown and Smitty are going to be able
- 17:10Speaker 2: to catch passes or even get it like, who cares
- 17:12Speaker 2: if the offensive line is not working. Here's look, we
- 17:17Speaker 2: want to talk more about the offensive line, certainly talk
- 17:19Speaker 2: about this amazing super Bowl caliber defense, but I want
- 17:23Speaker 2: to take a quick break here and then we get back.
- 17:25Speaker 2: We're going to be getting into that stick with us
- 17:27Speaker 2: real quick, folks. We'll be back in just a bit.
- 17:30Speaker 2: All right, We are back, and we're going to continue
- 17:34Speaker 2: talking about this Eagles offense and how anemic that it
- 17:38Speaker 2: has been. Josh mentioned earlier some Jalen hurt stats in
- 17:43Speaker 2: terms of his attempts, his completions, yards. I mentioned how
- 17:49Speaker 2: his yards per attempt, but really when you look at
- 17:53Speaker 2: the wide receivers, it's so interesting. We had the week
- 17:56Speaker 2: that we had and the narrative with aj Brown, him
- 17:59Speaker 2: being on Twitch with his friend playing.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Madden and ada da ba ba bye ba. It's the story.
- 18:05Speaker 2: All of a sudden, he gets eleven targets, comes down
- 18:07Speaker 2: with seven balls for only forty nine yards, seven point yard,
- 18:10Speaker 2: seven point zero yards per reception. John Dotson gets two
- 18:17Speaker 2: receptions for forty three yards. Davante Smith was only targeted
- 18:21Speaker 2: five times. He came down one ball.
- 18:22Speaker 1: For eight yards.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The passing play selection and what is happening and the
- 18:30Speaker 2: lack of the intermediate routes and passes over the middle
- 18:35Speaker 2: of the field again so baffling. It is so hard
- 18:38Speaker 2: to grasp this as this continues to happen with this offense,
- 18:42Speaker 2: and this I believe is not only coaching, but I
- 18:45Speaker 2: believe it's Jalen Hurts too. There was a play towards
- 18:48Speaker 2: the end of the game. It was a third down play.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I believe.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Smitty was wide open right over the middle, running like
- 18:55Speaker 2: a drag route basically, would it got the first I
- 18:58Speaker 2: think it was third and three got the first down
- 19:01Speaker 2: for sure if Jalen Hurts had to drop back a
- 19:04Speaker 2: three step drop back.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But he didn't.
- 19:07Speaker 2: And I think it's a combination of coaching, and I
- 19:10Speaker 2: think it's a combination also of Jalen Hurts just feeling
- 19:13Speaker 2: more comfortable passing the receivers near the sidelines. I really do,
- 19:19Speaker 2: and sometimes it can be so frustrating. I don't want
- 19:22Speaker 2: to crap on Jalen Hurts necessarily, like we were talking
- 19:24Speaker 2: about before the break, you know, I think he makes
- 19:27Speaker 2: some really good decisions at times. Other times I feel
- 19:30Speaker 2: like there's still some hiccups with his game and his
- 19:33Speaker 2: decision making. But man like the lack of the intermediate
- 19:37Speaker 2: passes over the middle of the field, Josh, it just
- 19:39Speaker 2: drives me crazy.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't tend to disagree with you on that point. However,
- 19:47Speaker 3: I'm not going to put this year the offense on
- 19:50Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts. Okay, to me, we've played ten games, the
- 19:55Speaker 3: offense has had maybe one good game against a trash
- 20:00Speaker 3: Giants team. We have an offensive coordinator problem. And I
- 20:07Speaker 3: say that I think I do well. And that was
- 20:10Speaker 3: that was gonna be my point. This is the second
- 20:13Speaker 3: time in Sirianni's tenure we've had an offensive coordinator problem,
- 20:17Speaker 3: and both of them have been quote unquote his boys.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Nick needs to not not have input on offensive coordinators.
- 20:28Speaker 3: This is bad. And I think what's happened the two
- 20:31Speaker 3: years where we've had problems on offense because they're Knicks guys.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Nick has had more input on the offense and that
- 20:42Speaker 3: has not gone well. I think that I think that
- 20:46Speaker 3: Nick is an excellent head coach and I don't think
- 20:49Speaker 3: you can look at his record and and disagree with that.
- 20:53Speaker 1: You can't say he's trash, No, not at all correct.
- 20:56Speaker 3: However, I don't think he's an offensive genius, and I
- 21:04Speaker 3: think that's been abundantly clear. I think he's been the
- 21:06Speaker 3: head coach now for what he's in his fifth year.
- 21:09Speaker 3: There's been three years where the Eagles offense has been
- 21:12Speaker 3: really great where he has been completely hands off on,
- 21:16Speaker 3: and two years where his buddies have been the offensive
- 21:20Speaker 3: coordinator and we've had massive issues, to the point where
- 21:23Speaker 3: one year the offensive coordinator was like go in the
- 21:26Speaker 3: middle of the season while the team had a winning record.
- 21:30Speaker 3: It's not there is a coordinator issue, and so I
- 21:35Speaker 3: think part of it is and I don't give Jalen
- 21:38Speaker 3: Hurts a pass for having a new offensive coordinator. Like,
- 21:40Speaker 3: guess what, man number one in college you transferred, so
- 21:45Speaker 3: like you chose to have a different offensive coordinator. So
- 21:48Speaker 3: I don't want to hear about he's never had back
- 21:51Speaker 3: to back coordinators. He chose one year to leave the
- 21:54Speaker 3: spot he was at, So that to me is a
- 21:57Speaker 3: complete new argument. Also, when you have successful offenses, you're
- 22:03Speaker 3: gonna have player or coaches that are that are poached.
- 22:06Speaker 3: But when you bring in the passing game coordinator to
- 22:10Speaker 3: be the new offensive coordinator, I don't understand how there's
- 22:13Speaker 3: that much of a difference. I'm sorry, there's not. Like Jeff,
- 22:17Speaker 3: you and I have watched at the very least the
- 22:20Speaker 3: last three years, Like I've been on here, it is
- 22:25Speaker 3: basically the same offense as two years ago. It is
- 22:28Speaker 3: what they're running. And so I don't understand the argument
- 22:31Speaker 3: about how he's had all these different offensive coordinators. It's
- 22:34Speaker 3: literally the same offense. Basically, it's just different lingo. The
- 22:39Speaker 3: only change to it was last year when the Eagles
- 22:41Speaker 3: had a good offense. It's not a good offense and
- 22:46Speaker 3: I know you had mentioned about officiating and everything, and
- 22:49Speaker 3: I kind of went off on a tangent about it.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I don't believe that officiating cost games. All of this.
- 22:55Speaker 3: I agree with bad calls. The Eagles still one tonight.
- 22:58Speaker 3: The reality is there was one missed call, and you
- 23:01Speaker 3: can even say that that last past interference penalty or
- 23:05Speaker 3: holding penalty on the lines was garbage, so it kind
- 23:09Speaker 3: of balanced out earlier the play call. After that questionable
- 23:14Speaker 3: call when it was third and six, you're gonna tell
- 23:17Speaker 3: me that Jalen Hurts, DeVante Smith, AJ Brown, Saquon Barkley
- 23:23Speaker 3: cannot get six yards.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:28Speaker 3: I can't live in a world I think it's a
- 23:31Speaker 3: pathetic excuse. If I'm being totally honest, right, this is
- 23:34Speaker 3: an explicit one. It's a pathetic excuse by fans to
- 23:38Speaker 3: blame officiating. I'm sorry, absolutely absolutely. I can't deal with it.
- 23:43Speaker 3: The biggest problem with the offense is what Meryl Reese
- 23:47Speaker 3: said tonight. I listened to the game on the radio
- 23:50Speaker 3: and watch it every time Shipley is in. And this
- 23:54Speaker 3: is coming from a South Carolina fan who watched Shipley
- 23:57Speaker 3: destroy South Carolina for four years. It was a horrible experience.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I'm happy he is on the Eagles now, but every
- 24:06Speaker 3: time he's in they passed the ball and Merril Reese
- 24:09Speaker 3: mentioned it four times tonight and don't you know every
- 24:13Speaker 3: well he mentioned it five times. The only time that
- 24:16Speaker 3: it wasn't a pass play, it was a quarterback draw
- 24:19Speaker 3: because it involves blocking. And that's why Shiffley is in there. Yes,
- 24:24Speaker 3: it's a very predictable offense. Yes, if if the radio
- 24:28Speaker 3: announcer is able to tell you what they're doing ahead
- 24:31Speaker 3: of time, we've got a problem.
- 24:34Speaker 2: And that was the theme last week with the with
- 24:36Speaker 2: the Green Bay Packers, predictability. They knew what was coming,
- 24:40Speaker 2: they knew the snap count, they knew the play that
- 24:43Speaker 2: was being run, and it go it comes down took
- 24:47Speaker 2: So much of.
- 24:48Speaker 1: This comes down to coaching.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Look, I read a tweet that said, if Grant Calcatara
- 24:55Speaker 2: is asked to block as the rapper on a counter again,
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm going to lose my mind. That's what this individual said.
- 25:02Speaker 2: And then one of our friends of the show, Patrick
- 25:04Speaker 2: down in Florida, responded to this individual and said, putting
- 25:09Speaker 2: players in a position to succeed is the hallmark of
- 25:12Speaker 2: good coaching.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Putting them in a position.
- 25:14Speaker 2: To fail repeatedly is the opposite of that, and we
- 25:19Speaker 2: are continuing to see that with this Eagles offense.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Really quick.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Going back to the officiating, when I was texting that
- 25:25Speaker 2: with you earlier, I wasn't trying to blame the officiating.
- 25:28Speaker 1: It was just the whole tush push thing. Like the NFL.
- 25:32Speaker 2: When I say the NFL, it's teams, other players, people
- 25:36Speaker 2: in general. They have just been waiting for that false
- 25:40Speaker 2: start with the tush push, and they got the call tonight,
- 25:43Speaker 2: but it was the fucking wrong call. It was actually
- 25:46Speaker 2: the ron club's like, why can't these officials do this
- 25:48Speaker 2: shit right? And then they get all wrong at the
- 25:51Speaker 2: end of the game too, and it's like, what the
- 25:52Speaker 2: hell is happening here?
- 25:54Speaker 3: Oh, I'm actually I know I'm in the minority here,
- 25:58Speaker 3: and I yeah, I'm actually okay with the call on
- 26:02Speaker 3: the tush push. All right. If you look, Steen is
- 26:05Speaker 3: putting his hand on the ground in front, He's moving
- 26:08Speaker 3: his hand all over the place like it is what
- 26:13Speaker 3: it is like, if you're not supposed to move, you
- 26:16Speaker 3: shouldn't be adjusting your shoulder moving your hand like That's
- 26:21Speaker 3: where I'm like, Wow, I may not agree with it.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Technically by the rule book, it's a false start. So
- 26:29Speaker 3: like this is one of those things where I say,
- 26:32Speaker 3: you can hate the rule.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but the other players in the neutral zone though,
- 26:38Speaker 2: But the other players in the neutral.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Zone I'm just talking about.
- 26:41Speaker 1: For me, it's just right stupid. It is.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so stupid. Anyway, Do we have anything else
- 26:48Speaker 2: we want to talk about with the offense? Maybe maybe
- 26:50Speaker 2: the fact that you know what, maybe the fact that
- 26:53Speaker 2: I will give them credit for having one good drive
- 26:55Speaker 2: of the game right before the half. It was ten plays,
- 26:59Speaker 2: sixty four yard cards, four minutes and fifty five seconds
- 27:02Speaker 2: off the clock. It ended with a Jalen Hurts toush
- 27:05Speaker 2: push touchdown again right before the half. That was That
- 27:08Speaker 2: was Jalen hurts first rushing touchdown since the October ninth
- 27:13Speaker 2: game against the Giants that they ended up losing in
- 27:16Speaker 2: East Ruth Off, New Jersey. Again an issue, a major
- 27:20Speaker 2: issue with this offense. If that's the last time Jalen
- 27:23Speaker 2: Hurts has had a rushing touchdown, a touch push touchdown,
- 27:26Speaker 2: major major issues? Anything else with the offense here, buddy,
- 27:30Speaker 2: before we move over to the defense, because one end
- 27:32Speaker 2: on a positive note, because there was so much positive
- 27:35Speaker 2: in this game. There was more positive than negative in
- 27:38Speaker 2: my opinion.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'll just kind of summarize it with
- 27:43Speaker 3: the text I sent you where the Detroit Lions did
- 27:45Speaker 3: not even deserve that extra point. Ro That's kind of
- 27:49Speaker 3: how it. Like, as much as we are complaining about
- 27:53Speaker 3: the Eagles offense, Oh, I mean, I can only imagine.
- 27:57Speaker 3: So I have a friend who I went to Russia
- 28:00Speaker 3: with on a mission strip, who attends our church now,
- 28:03Speaker 3: and he's been a Lions fan as long as I've known,
- 28:07Speaker 3: which is like decades at this point, and we were
- 28:10Speaker 3: kind of talking about the game beforehand, and I can
- 28:13Speaker 3: only imagine how frustrated he is, Yes, with Dan Campbell,
- 28:19Speaker 3: like after tonight, Tonight was the definition of where being
- 28:23Speaker 3: too aggressive will kill you, Yes, And so I was
- 28:28Speaker 3: texting with him throughout the game. So, Sean, if you're listening,
- 28:33Speaker 3: I'm not going to apologize for your coach because he
- 28:35Speaker 3: was an idiot tonight. But thankfully, the Lions offense was
- 28:41Speaker 3: worse than the Eagles. And I think that's the main
- 28:45Speaker 3: takeaway from tonight is the better of the two offenses,
- 28:48Speaker 3: which is not saying a whole lot won the game Tonight.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yes, and look, it's not because.
- 28:57Speaker 2: It's not because the Detroit Lions defense was that great
- 29:01Speaker 2: against the Eagles offense at all. But the Eagles defense
- 29:05Speaker 2: was that great against the Lions offense. My gosh, folks,
- 29:11Speaker 2: Jared Goff fourteen of thirty seven, fourteen of thirty seven. Yes,
- 29:16Speaker 2: he was only sacked twice in the game, and yes,
- 29:20Speaker 2: he passed for two hundred and fifty five yards, but
- 29:23Speaker 2: he had a Jamiir Gibbs on a long forty two yarder,
- 29:26Speaker 2: Jamison Jamison Williams on a forty yarder, a Monora Saint
- 29:31Speaker 2: Brown on a thirty four yarder. Those were huge chunk
- 29:34Speaker 2: plays and part of that two hundred and fifty five
- 29:38Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty five yards passing and Jamiir Gibbs
- 29:42Speaker 2: being the guy being the highest receiver in this in
- 29:47Speaker 2: this game with one hundred and seven yards, he averaged
- 29:49Speaker 2: twenty one point four yards per reception. But man Eagles
- 29:53Speaker 2: defense holding this Detroit rushing attack, the two headed lion
- 29:59Speaker 2: of Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery seventy four total rushing
- 30:04Speaker 2: yards and that's including Jamison Williams nine yard rush as well,
- 30:10Speaker 2: only thirty nine yards on the ground for Jamiir Gibbs,
- 30:13Speaker 2: David Montgomery only twenty seven yards on the ground, and yes,
- 30:17Speaker 2: Jared Goff was throwing a lot. They had to try
- 30:19Speaker 2: to get back into this game, but very very poor
- 30:22Speaker 2: play calling and very poor management by Dan Campbell, as
- 30:26Speaker 2: you mentioned. But I think we go to what really
- 30:29Speaker 2: helps set the tone for this defense, and it was
- 30:32Speaker 2: that Cooper dejen interception on the Lion's very first drive
- 30:36Speaker 2: of the game. Jordan Davis with that awesome tip at
- 30:39Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage.
- 30:40Speaker 1: My god, he had.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Three throughout this game, but that first one fell right
- 30:44Speaker 2: into Cooper Dejean's hands and Eagles were able to get
- 30:50Speaker 2: a field goal out of that. But man, you look
- 30:53Speaker 2: at Jalen Phillips as well. He had his first sack
- 30:56Speaker 2: at Lincoln Financial Field. What a disruptor he was. And
- 31:01Speaker 2: you and I were texting about one particular guy in
- 31:03Speaker 2: the secondary who man, I was so I was so
- 31:07Speaker 2: worried about coming into this game, and that is a
- 31:09Speaker 2: Dori Jackson. Yes, he did give up a touchdown to
- 31:13Speaker 2: Jamison Williams, but man, overall, what a game he had.
- 31:17Speaker 2: And it's nice to be able to say that actually
- 31:19Speaker 2: this defense was incredible, and again Cooper dejan with that
- 31:23Speaker 2: interception set in the tone throughout.
- 31:25Speaker 1: But just pressure, pressure, pressure on Jared Goff. That disruption
- 31:30Speaker 1: led led to just this this super Bowl caliber defense
- 31:33Speaker 1: doing what they needed to do in order for them
- 31:35Speaker 1: to win this game. Vic Fangio MVP for sure.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Yeah. And I had touched you that the last two weeks, Yes,
- 31:43Speaker 3: Fangio MVP.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so I.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Think you know. I've mentioned it before on here. I
- 31:49Speaker 3: think that sometimes stats don't don't tell the truth.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I think tonight is a prime example of that. I
- 31:58Speaker 3: don't think the stats that the Eagles racked up are
- 32:03Speaker 3: factual to.
- 32:04Speaker 1: The box score when the box score right in the
- 32:07Speaker 1: box score. Yeah, I just.
- 32:10Speaker 3: When you read the stats from the box score on
- 32:13Speaker 3: the Eagles defense, it looks like they had a very
- 32:15Speaker 3: pedestrian night. That's not the case at all. I mean,
- 32:20Speaker 3: while there may have been a set number of certain pressures,
- 32:22Speaker 3: it was very clear that they have been very effective
- 32:25Speaker 3: and if Vic Fangio had come up with a very
- 32:27Speaker 3: effective game plan to really make Jared Goff very nervous.
- 32:32Speaker 3: And so I don't care what the pressure numbers are.
- 32:37Speaker 3: I don't care what the sack numbers are. I don't
- 32:40Speaker 3: care what the interception the numbers are. The reality is
- 32:43Speaker 3: is Jared Goff looked completely lost tonight and I really
- 32:47Speaker 3: view the stats from the box score for the Lion's
- 32:51Speaker 3: offense is they're pointless. Golf had a really bad night.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Sure gives Montgomery they got off a couple of good runs.
- 33:03Speaker 3: But the reality is the Lions have a good offensive line.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Like the Lions are built exactly like the Eagles. They
- 33:09Speaker 3: have a good defensive line, they have a good offensive line,
- 33:12Speaker 3: and they have playmakers. That's literally the blueprint of the Eagles.
- 33:17Speaker 1: It's the formula.
- 33:19Speaker 3: It's the formula. It's what wins like it's what wins.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Why other teams don't do that, that's a whole conversation
- 33:27Speaker 3: for another time. But the reality is is the Eagles
- 33:33Speaker 3: defense tonight just I had text you before the game started, right,
- 33:39Speaker 3: I text you before the game started, and I said,
- 33:43Speaker 3: I didn't think the Eagles offense, to be fair, I
- 33:46Speaker 3: was right on this had enough firepower to be able
- 33:51Speaker 3: to keep up with the Lions offense. The reality is,
- 33:55Speaker 3: I did not anticipate the Eagles tonight. To me, why
- 34:00Speaker 3: I shouldn't say tonight the last two weeks have really
- 34:04Speaker 3: defined for me that the Eagles have a very good,
- 34:08Speaker 3: if not elite defense yet again. And so if you're
- 34:12Speaker 3: gonna do that, you only need the offense to put
- 34:15Speaker 3: up twenty one to twenty four points and you're gonna
- 34:17Speaker 3: win games. The Eagles tonight, I think I heard on
- 34:21Speaker 3: the radio. If they won tonight, their chance to lock
- 34:24Speaker 3: up the number one seed is at almost fifty percent
- 34:27Speaker 3: because of tiebreakers.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Part of it's because the NFC East is just trash
- 34:35Speaker 3: and they've won all the important games they want to.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Like now, after this win tonight, because of the defense
- 34:43Speaker 3: that Giants lost earlier in the season doesn't really mean
- 34:46Speaker 3: a whole lot, right, And so that's good news. Like
- 34:50Speaker 3: they've they've come into form, and I feel like if
- 34:57Speaker 3: you look at the defense, there's a lot of unsung heroes.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Dorry Jackson has been trash, straight.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Up gracious season.
- 35:09Speaker 3: No, he has been horrible. However, I am an individual
- 35:16Speaker 3: that when you have a good game, I will give
- 35:19Speaker 3: you a hat tip. So to me, it was very clear,
- 35:23Speaker 3: especially in the second half, that they were going after
- 35:26Speaker 3: a Dori Jackson, and you know what, he rose to
- 35:30Speaker 3: the occasion he had pass breakups, and you know what,
- 35:33Speaker 3: if he didn't break up a pass, he was at
- 35:35Speaker 3: least in coverage to the point where even if Goff
- 35:38Speaker 3: had completed it, it's not going anywhere, which is wildly
- 35:42Speaker 3: different than the last couple of weeks. So, Dori Jackson,
- 35:46Speaker 3: you get a hat tip for doing your job. Which
- 35:50Speaker 3: it's amazing that that's now the state of things where
- 35:54Speaker 3: I'm happy if you can just be adequate at your job,
- 35:58Speaker 3: and I'm thrilled and over the moon. But here we
- 36:01Speaker 3: are exactly.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Look, the cornerback number two was a huge concern coming
- 36:07Speaker 2: into this season.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Even now it still is a concern.
- 36:12Speaker 2: But again, you gotta give your you gotta give that
- 36:14Speaker 2: hat tip to adri Jackson for what he did in
- 36:18Speaker 2: this game, and just just for every other starter as well.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Honestly, I mean when we get to.
- 36:22Speaker 2: The grades, I mean I should just say the defense
- 36:25Speaker 2: a plus all around, my gosh, I.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Should just say.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Yeah at every level, yep, yes, absolutely again and special
- 36:36Speaker 2: teams plus, well, yeah, I was gonna get right before
- 36:39Speaker 2: we go to our next break, I was going to
- 36:41Speaker 2: get to special teams because I do think there's another
- 36:43Speaker 2: MVP that that that that is an unsung hero in
- 36:46Speaker 2: this game as well. But really quick, Josh said, box
- 36:49Speaker 2: score really doesn't matter when it comes to the defense.
- 36:52Speaker 2: It doesn't. But just to rattle off some of these numbers.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Two total sacks by the Eagles, three tackles for a loss,
- 36:58Speaker 2: ten passes defended. Ten passes defended. That's including Jalen Carter's
- 37:04Speaker 2: to two blocks right up at the right up at
- 37:07Speaker 2: the front of the line.
- 37:09Speaker 1: And also.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I believe it so on third downs, Yeah, Jordan Davis
- 37:14Speaker 2: had three, Quinjon Mitchell had two pass breakups. Cooper Dejen
- 37:19Speaker 2: had two. Jalen again, I mentioned Jalen Carter, Dori Jackson
- 37:23Speaker 2: with one, Cooperjen two. Anyway, I could keep going and
- 37:26Speaker 2: going and going anyway. Uh seven quarterback hits two. Look,
- 37:30Speaker 2: the special teams played such an important role in this
- 37:33Speaker 2: game as well, And I think an unsung hero was
- 37:38Speaker 2: Jake Elliott.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Jake Elliott was a huge part of the Eagles story.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Tonight came through in a huge way as there were
- 37:45Speaker 2: thirty mile per hour wind gusts down at Lincoln Financial
- 37:50Speaker 2: Field and you're like, gosh, how is it gonna go?
- 37:52Speaker 2: The broadcast was showing those balls being kicked during the
- 37:56Speaker 2: pregame warm ups, just going everywhere, kicked a forty nine yarder.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Jake Elliott has been on fire this season in general.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Back on his game. Last year was a tough year
- 38:07Speaker 2: for him, but he was three of three in this game,
- 38:11Speaker 2: made one extra point, but again that long being forty
- 38:14Speaker 2: nine yards. He is an unsung hero in this game
- 38:17Speaker 2: because the offense was only able to put up six
- 38:20Speaker 2: points and he was able to do the rest with
- 38:22Speaker 2: his leg. He's definitely another MVP, I think.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Yeah. And I would also add to that, I think
- 38:29Speaker 3: the special teams coverage tonight was just I think it
- 38:34Speaker 3: was their best game all season.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:36Speaker 3: I mean they didn't let hardly any returns, they wrapped
- 38:41Speaker 3: up tackles, and I because we're probably not going to
- 38:44Speaker 3: talk about defensive grades rightfully, so because they all get
- 38:49Speaker 3: an A plus.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 38:51Speaker 3: You look at the decision Howie Roseman had to make
- 38:54Speaker 3: this offseason. He opted to keep Zach bond and let
- 38:57Speaker 3: other people go. I don't know that Zach Bonn ever
- 39:02Speaker 3: misses a tackle. I mean, if we want to talk
- 39:07Speaker 3: about unsung heroes, I mean, watch the rest of the
- 39:11Speaker 3: Eagles defense attempt to tackle and I'll maybe I'll put
- 39:14Speaker 3: quinnyon Mitchell in this category as well, but they don't
- 39:18Speaker 3: really throw his way, which is a testament to how
- 39:20Speaker 3: good he is.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I don't know that there's a better, better tackler on
- 39:25Speaker 3: the Eagles defense other than Zach Bonn. And it is
- 39:29Speaker 3: just amazing. After all the years of the Eagles not
- 39:33Speaker 3: investing in the linebacker position, they invest in one. And
- 39:37Speaker 3: my biggest fear was he's going to sign this huge
- 39:40Speaker 3: deal and all of a sudden it's going to become
- 39:42Speaker 3: a flop, Like that would be the most Eagles thing ever,
- 39:45Speaker 3: because then Howie Roseman will go back to just like
- 39:48Speaker 3: patchwork linebackers, right, No, yep, I mean he just he
- 39:53Speaker 3: is such a pillar of stability. And I know to
- 39:56Speaker 3: Kobe Dean's on there as well, right, Like I get that,
- 39:59Speaker 3: and Jo can amble like cool. Yeah, Zach Bond is
- 40:04Speaker 3: just he fills gaps to absolute perfection. Right Like, every
- 40:09Speaker 3: time there's a run play that doesn't go anywhere, you
- 40:11Speaker 3: know who's there, Zach Bond.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Yep.
- 40:13Speaker 3: In coverage, he never misses a tackle. Ye. He is
- 40:18Speaker 3: always the man is always going to the ball. It's
- 40:23Speaker 3: not like you know, watching kids play soccer where it's
- 40:27Speaker 3: clusters of kids just running around the ball. No, like
- 40:30Speaker 3: Zach Bond goes where he's supposed to go, and he
- 40:33Speaker 3: provides back up, and he will run forty yards down
- 40:37Speaker 3: the field to tackle somebody if he's oh yeah, like
- 40:39Speaker 3: absolutely Zach Bond. And I agree with Jake Elliott. The
- 40:44Speaker 3: only reason why I don't consider him like an unsung
- 40:47Speaker 3: hero is because I think last year was a fluke
- 40:50Speaker 3: and he is just so good and kicker is one
- 40:54Speaker 3: of those things like when you have a good kicker,
- 40:58Speaker 3: you don't give him any credit. Right. I appreciate you
- 41:01Speaker 3: giving him credit, But I just think Zachbaond is for me,
- 41:06Speaker 3: at least I should say the young sung hero. And
- 41:09Speaker 3: the close second would be the coverage tonight on both
- 41:13Speaker 3: punt returns and kick returns, because yeah hoo, many times
- 41:16Speaker 3: this year we've said they're getting these huge returns. Something's
- 41:22Speaker 3: been figured out tonight, and that's good.
- 41:24Speaker 1: That's a good thing. Absolutely.
- 41:26Speaker 2: All right, Well, folks, gonna take another break, last break,
- 41:29Speaker 2: and then we're gonna get into our grades. Except for
- 41:32Speaker 2: the defense, they're gonna get an A plus, and I'm
- 41:34Speaker 2: gonna mention that after the break as well.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But stick with us. We will be right back. All right,
- 41:40Speaker 1: we're back.
- 41:40Speaker 2: We're with our good friend Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow
- 41:43Speaker 2: dot com filling in for the guys here. Let's get
- 41:46Speaker 2: into our grades. We're gonna grade the dog shit offense first,
- 41:50Speaker 2: and we're Jalen Hurts in this game. We mentioned the
- 41:54Speaker 2: stats earlier. Look, I'm gonna get I'm gonna give Jalen
- 41:59Speaker 2: Hurts a seat us. I maybe being a little too harsh,
- 42:03Speaker 2: but I think there were certain plays we saw. He
- 42:08Speaker 2: has very fine touch with the ball. We have seen
- 42:10Speaker 2: this over the years. But how many times are we
- 42:13Speaker 2: now seeing him overthrowing players when these these are good
- 42:17Speaker 2: players that can go up and those fifty to fifty balls.
- 42:20Speaker 2: We see it with Smitty all the time. Overthrow Smitty. Today,
- 42:24Speaker 2: you overthrew Saquon Barkley. Saquon Barkley had his man beat.
- 42:27Speaker 2: We're seeing that a lot. And as what we were
- 42:31Speaker 2: talking about earlier, No, the failures of this offense are
- 42:35Speaker 2: not on Jalen Hurts, but I think his play in
- 42:38Speaker 2: this game, again, going back to what you're talking about,
- 42:42Speaker 2: whatever's happening with the quarterback and receivers, there's an issue
- 42:45Speaker 2: there and yes, he is the quarterback on this team,
- 42:47Speaker 2: and there's something to be said for that. I'm giving
- 42:49Speaker 2: him a C plus in this game. What do you
- 42:50Speaker 2: give him?
- 42:53Speaker 3: I'm actually going to give him a D.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 42:56Speaker 3: And this goes back to something I had I had
- 42:58Speaker 3: texted you that you said, bring up all the show
- 43:01Speaker 3: to me tonight was Jalen Hurts of two or three
- 43:04Speaker 3: years ago, where it was overthrows, it was poor decision making,
- 43:12Speaker 3: it was missing wide open people. But I think, to
- 43:16Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts' credit, it shows how far he's grown and
- 43:21Speaker 3: how hard he's worked. And so I'm okay with giving
- 43:26Speaker 3: Hurts a D once a year. I don't think if
- 43:30Speaker 3: you were to ask him, he would say tonight was
- 43:32Speaker 3: a good game. It was not a good game. There
- 43:36Speaker 3: were a lot of plays that were left on the field.
- 43:41Speaker 3: And he just didn't have a top five QB in
- 43:46Speaker 3: the NFL game tonight. And I said, that's how I
- 43:49Speaker 3: view him. So if you're not going to live up
- 43:51Speaker 3: to that standard, you're not going to get an average
- 43:53Speaker 3: grade to me, because I expect that out of you.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Partially watching say partially mostly because you've made me a
- 44:00Speaker 3: believer in you that you are a top five quarterback play,
- 44:04Speaker 3: so I expect that every night that you play. There
- 44:09Speaker 3: were a lot of bad habits that came out tonight. Yeah,
- 44:13Speaker 3: and so I think for that reason, I'm gonna give
- 44:15Speaker 3: him a D. I have no doubt that probably next
- 44:17Speaker 3: week it will be a B or A plus.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yep, all right, very good. Let's move to the running
- 44:22Speaker 1: back position.
- 44:23Speaker 2: As I mentioned earlier, Saquon Barkley averaged three point two
- 44:26Speaker 2: yards per carry eighty three yards in this game on
- 44:29Speaker 2: twenty six carries. Tank Bigsby with four carries for thirty
- 44:33Speaker 2: four yards. My gosh, Tank Bigsby eight point five yards
- 44:38Speaker 2: per carry he's averaging He was coming into this game,
- 44:42Speaker 2: Josh averaging seven point four yards per carry. Yes, on
- 44:45Speaker 2: eighteen carries total. But still, I mean, the guy's been
- 44:49Speaker 2: impressive when he's been out there. But I'm gonna I'm
- 44:51Speaker 2: gonna give the running backs this week because I once
- 44:53Speaker 2: again it is not their faults that these lanes are
- 44:57Speaker 2: not opening up, that the gaps and holes are not
- 44:59Speaker 2: opening up up for them to run through. I'm going
- 45:02Speaker 2: to give the running backs this week of B minus.
- 45:04Speaker 2: What do you give them?
- 45:07Speaker 3: Question? Is this the Tank Bigsby game is that we're
- 45:10Speaker 3: we're calling this.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Every time he's touched the ball, good things happen.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Look, I would say that the running game was a
- 45:21Speaker 3: B and I do think moving forward, and I don't
- 45:24Speaker 3: think Tank Bigsby is a better running back than Saquon
- 45:27Speaker 3: Barkley exactly. I think if that's your stance on things,
- 45:31Speaker 3: you need to reevaluate your football knowledge, right. I do
- 45:34Speaker 3: think that what needs to happen is Tank Bigsby needs
- 45:38Speaker 3: to get some more carries. Solely for the fact, I
- 45:41Speaker 3: don't care if it's Tank Bigsby. I don't care if
- 45:43Speaker 3: it's Bill Shipley, I don't care if it's Joe Schmo
- 45:48Speaker 3: from section two thirty three. Somebody needs to give Saquan
- 45:52Speaker 3: a break and just have him prepared for the playoffs.
- 45:57Speaker 3: And that's that's kind of where I'm at. I would
- 46:01Speaker 3: prefer to be Tank Pigsby because they gave up draft
- 46:05Speaker 3: picks to get him.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yep.
- 46:07Speaker 3: But just there's got to be some form of a
- 46:11Speaker 3: break for Saquon. The wayes aren't there is getting hammered
- 46:15Speaker 3: in the backfield. Give give him a bit of a break.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yep.
- 46:19Speaker 2: All right, let's move to the receivers. AJ Brown as
- 46:22Speaker 2: we mentioned, eleven Targets came down with seven balls for
- 46:25Speaker 2: forty nine yards. Johan Dottson targeted twice, came down with
- 46:29Speaker 2: both of them for forty three yards. Dallas scott Or
- 46:31Speaker 2: targeted five times, came down with two balls for twenty
- 46:34Speaker 2: four yards, and Smitty five targets, only came down with
- 46:38Speaker 2: one ball for eight yards. And I have no idea
- 46:42Speaker 2: why Ka Kalyn or Kylon Granson is out there, to
- 46:47Speaker 2: be honest with, you have no clue why he's out there.
- 46:51Speaker 2: He caught one ball for four yards, and Saquon caught
- 46:53Speaker 2: one for seven yards. Total one hundred and thirty five
- 46:56Speaker 2: yards from the receivers, I'm gonna go with I'm gonna
- 47:00Speaker 2: go with a C plus here, But I feel weird
- 47:04Speaker 2: about this one.
- 47:05Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I feel like because the passing attack because of Jalen hurts,
- 47:09Speaker 2: because of play calling and coaching. I feel like they
- 47:12Speaker 2: just didn't serve the wide receivers well. But then again,
- 47:16Speaker 2: the wide receivers, you know, a J. Brown, he basically stopped,
- 47:20Speaker 2: not stopped, but there was there was a go route
- 47:23Speaker 2: he was running and and and he kind of like
- 47:25Speaker 2: just there's a little Lacca daisical on it. I don't
- 47:30Speaker 2: know if Smitty was open all the time, He's opened
- 47:33Speaker 2: a lot. Jalen Hurts maybe didn't see him, So maybe
- 47:36Speaker 2: maybe a C area isn't fair. You know what, Maybe
- 47:39Speaker 2: I'll give him a B. What do you what do
- 47:40Speaker 2: you give him? This is a bizarre one degree.
- 47:44Speaker 3: I'm actually going D.
- 47:45Speaker 1: You're going D. Okay, there were a lot.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Of drops tonight.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going back down to C. I'm going back
- 47:53Speaker 1: down to see I can.
- 47:55Speaker 3: I can swear you very easily.
- 47:57Speaker 2: I'm well, yes, I'm a public official.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Lol, I'm kidding.
- 48:04Speaker 3: I just feel like, yes, Hurts didn't have his best game,
- 48:12Speaker 3: but I also feel like the receivers this game like
- 48:17Speaker 3: it was not I kind of hope they just flushed
- 48:21Speaker 3: this film because it was not a batter night.
- 48:25Speaker 1: It was very low energy. It was low energy.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know if that's because they played six
- 48:31Speaker 3: days ago or whatnot, but it was it was rough
- 48:35Speaker 3: out there tonight for the receivers. Yeah, I'm I'm gonna
- 48:40Speaker 3: go with a D.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Too many drops, Okay, all right, offensive line, you know what,
- 48:46Speaker 2: it's it's got to be an F. I think they
- 48:48Speaker 2: were just absolutely horrendous tonight. As we talked about, it
- 48:52Speaker 2: takes a lot for me to give various units on
- 48:56Speaker 2: this Philadelphia Eagles team. They're the defending Super Bowl champions
- 48:59Speaker 2: and stuff, and I know that really doesn't mean much
- 49:01Speaker 2: right now given the way this offense is playing. But
- 49:04Speaker 2: it takes a lot for me to give, as folks
- 49:07Speaker 2: in F but I'm giving. I'm giving the offensive line
- 49:09Speaker 2: and F tonight was absolutely horrendous and they still ended
- 49:12Speaker 2: up winning this game banks to the defense. But what
- 49:14Speaker 2: do you give the offensive line?
- 49:16Speaker 3: I give him a C plus. Part of it, yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 3: I think part of it, Jeff, is we are so
- 49:23Speaker 3: used to elite offensive line play. I think if you
- 49:27Speaker 3: talk to Cincinnati, if you talk to either of the
- 49:31Speaker 3: New York teams, if you talk to Houston, if you
- 49:34Speaker 3: talk to these really bad teams, they would have been
- 49:38Speaker 3: very happy with the performance tonight. Okay, I think that's fair.
- 49:43Speaker 3: We're a number of injuries, like two fifths of the
- 49:47Speaker 3: Eagles offensive line went out before half. So I'm gonna
- 49:55Speaker 3: give them a C plus because they're going to move
- 49:56Speaker 3: it D.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm moving up to D.
- 50:00Speaker 3: I can sway you so quick.
- 50:02Speaker 1: No, I just made good points.
- 50:04Speaker 2: You did make good points you put in all seriousness,
- 50:07Speaker 2: like you're able to give some perspective here at times
- 50:10Speaker 2: when I certainly need it.
- 50:11Speaker 1: You're absolutely right when it comes to the Bengals.
- 50:13Speaker 2: When it comes to the Texans, there are so many
- 50:15Speaker 2: teams in the NFL that wish they had half the
- 50:18Speaker 2: talent on the offensive line that the Eagles do. We
- 50:21Speaker 2: are spoiled. We are used to the dominance, and that's
- 50:24Speaker 2: why things are so perplexing right now when you have
- 50:26Speaker 2: a talented group of guys like this and the talent
- 50:29Speaker 2: level is only getting up to maybe seventy percent eighty percent,
- 50:33Speaker 2: and we're like, what the hell is going on with
- 50:34Speaker 2: this twenty twenty five percent that we're not seeing here?
- 50:37Speaker 2: So seriously, it's a very good point.
- 50:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think even you know, pro football
- 50:44Speaker 3: focus and I'll view them as like the gold standard
- 50:46Speaker 3: or anything like that they have the Eagles is like
- 50:49Speaker 3: a top ten offensive line, but the reality is because
- 50:52Speaker 3: they're not top three, I think we're having a hard
- 50:55Speaker 3: time adjusting expectations. And I think for men, any of us,
- 51:00Speaker 3: we love Jason Kelce, but I really thought that we
- 51:03Speaker 3: thought that Cam Jurgens was just gonna slide in there
- 51:06Speaker 3: and everything's gonna be hunky dory. The offensive line's gonna
- 51:10Speaker 3: be seeing Kumbaya together, and maybe that's not the case.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Right right, Okay, all right, move over to the defense.
- 51:18Speaker 2: We said earlier we're gonna give the defense like we're
- 51:20Speaker 2: gonna give the defensive line, linebackers, and the secondary just
- 51:23Speaker 2: a pluses. This was the greatest game of the year.
- 51:27Speaker 2: How they could top this, I'm not one hundred percent sure,
- 51:30Speaker 2: but a plus is all around for the defense. Special teams, Buddy,
- 51:35Speaker 2: I have a question for you here because somebody I
- 51:37Speaker 2: think was essentially given me a little guff or given
- 51:40Speaker 2: the PSD podcast show a little guff when they tweeted
- 51:43Speaker 2: out great special teams play on the fake punt, because
- 51:50Speaker 2: Detroit is known to do some fake punts, fake field goals.
- 51:53Speaker 2: They've been known to do that. Dan Campbell enjoys doing
- 51:56Speaker 2: that every now and again. And somebody was like, the
- 51:59Speaker 2: defense was on the fielt But I'm like, yes, the
- 52:01Speaker 2: defense was on the field, but that's technically they then
- 52:05Speaker 2: become like the special teams.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Correct, am I correct in that?
- 52:10Speaker 3: You don't know? Okay, I would I would tend to
- 52:13Speaker 3: agree with you. I think part of it is my
- 52:16Speaker 3: bare minimum. I should say the bare minimum that I
- 52:19Speaker 3: evaluate special teams on is can your kicker make field goals?
- 52:23Speaker 3: Can your punter be adequate? And most importantly, the heaviest
- 52:26Speaker 3: grade I put is is your special teams making tackles. Because, Jeff,
- 52:33Speaker 3: if you watch you watched football probably all day today,
- 52:36Speaker 3: how many mistackles do you see on kickoffs and punts?
- 52:39Speaker 3: It's just constant?
- 52:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
- 52:42Speaker 2: So special teams is about field position. It's about position
- 52:46Speaker 2: within the game. That's why it's so important. I'm giving
- 52:50Speaker 2: the special teams in a.
- 52:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they get a plus for me. Jake Elliott did
- 52:56Speaker 3: a great job. They tackled when they were supposed to
- 52:59Speaker 3: A plus.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Getting into coaching grades. Vic Fangio A plus.
- 53:03Speaker 2: I mean that's yeah, we gotta do right, Yes, okay,
- 53:08Speaker 2: Kevin Patulo, Nick Sirianni, I'm gonna give these. I'm going
- 53:13Speaker 2: down to like D. I'm gonna I'm gonna go D here.
- 53:17Speaker 2: It's it's low again. I don't want to go the
- 53:19Speaker 2: F because you're gonna have to convince me to like
- 53:21Speaker 2: bump it up perhaps, but I'm going D.
- 53:24Speaker 1: With the coaching, what do you give? You give an
- 53:26Speaker 1: F two or.
- 53:27Speaker 3: You give an F to them, because I look over
- 53:30Speaker 3: rate there too. If you look overall at the Eagles
- 53:34Speaker 3: coaching staff, I would say it was a C effort tonight.
- 53:38Speaker 3: So if we're giving Nick Fan or Vic Fangio a plus,
- 53:43Speaker 3: the offensive side of the ball has to be just
- 53:47Speaker 3: an F. I don't see how you can give them
- 53:49Speaker 3: anything else. They were handed a golden platter three times
- 53:53Speaker 3: and they came away with six points. Yeah, not only
- 53:56Speaker 3: could they not score on every single one of those,
- 53:59Speaker 3: they didn't get a single touchdown.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not exactly right. That's not good at all.
- 54:03Speaker 1: That's not good.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Definitely one of the worst offensive coaching games. I mean,
- 54:08Speaker 2: aside from even last week too. Gonna be interesting what
- 54:10Speaker 2: happens next week with this team. It really is Philadelphia Eagles, folks.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Amazingly enough, they are eight and two on the season,
- 54:17Speaker 2: a top not only of the nfcas but at top
- 54:20Speaker 2: the NFC as well. My goodness, this team that has
- 54:25Speaker 2: a great defensive identity a very poor offensive identity at
- 54:29Speaker 2: this point. But look again, they are eight and two.
- 54:33Speaker 2: I am happy about that, and I'm also happy that
- 54:36Speaker 2: I got to spend some time with my buddy Josh
- 54:38Speaker 2: Shuster from Philadelphia Soccer Now dot com. Buddy, thanks so
- 54:42Speaker 2: much for filling in here. Always great talking to you.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Let everybody know what they can find you on the

- 55:37Speaker 2: Lions by a score of sixteen to nine or eight
- 55:40Speaker 2: and two in the season. It's gonna do it for us,
- 55:43Speaker 2: Take care and we will catch you next time.
