- 0:16Speaker 2: A pole. The government should be worried about whose fault
- 0:20Speaker 2: is the economy? That was the question for the poll,
- 0:22Speaker 2: Whose fault is the economy? The importance of this is
- 0:26Speaker 2: based on the simple premise that this election is about
- 0:28Speaker 2: one thing, basically, the state of the place. Is it
- 0:31Speaker 2: getting better or not? Do you see a brighter future
- 0:34Speaker 2: or not? Forget all the other issues and policies, they're frippery.
- 0:38Speaker 2: All that matters is the state of you. While that
- 0:40Speaker 2: your finances, your lifestyle, your hopes, your aspirations. The government
- 0:43Speaker 2: will argue they inherited a mess and it was so
- 0:46Speaker 2: big it takes time to turn it round. For a
- 0:48Speaker 2: while they had us on site. We believe them mainly
- 0:50Speaker 2: because it was true. Of course, history will show what
- 0:53Speaker 2: labour did seventeen through twenty three, in particularly twenty through
- 0:56Speaker 2: twenty three is one for the record books. It was cataclysmic.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Things were coming right until the war. Then the momentum
- 1:03Speaker 2: was lost. It's now back to a degree. I mean
- 1:05Speaker 2: GDP the number we got last week growing like manufacturing
- 1:09Speaker 2: and services. They're an expansion. Jobs still an issue. Confidence
- 1:13Speaker 2: still fragile. So their job is to reconvince you that
- 1:17Speaker 2: they had it in hand. Trump got in the way.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Just stick with us, She'll be right. And so did
- 1:23Speaker 2: the Pole Horizon poll done in the early part of
- 1:25Speaker 2: this month. Thirty one percent say yep, it was Trump,
- 1:28Speaker 2: seventeen percent say it's labor, but twenty nine percent say
- 1:32Speaker 2: it is on this government. So twenty nine percent blame
- 1:34Speaker 2: the government. Now, like all poles, you can read it
- 1:36Speaker 2: a million different ways. Thirty one Trump and seventeen labor.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's forty eight, not a majority, thirty one seventeen and
- 1:42Speaker 2: twenty nine to seventy seven. So what about the don't knows?
- 1:44Speaker 2: A lot of don't know. It's twenty three percent. So
- 1:46Speaker 2: between the don't knows and the forty eight, you can
- 1:49Speaker 2: talk you way to victory. I would have thought. But
- 1:51Speaker 2: if the twenty three go with the seventeen at forty
- 1:54Speaker 2: that's a lot of people who don't believe you, and
- 1:55Speaker 2: you're in trouble. You could be positive, which I am,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and suggest those who think it's on the government twenty
- 2:02Speaker 2: nine percent. That's not actually that many if you think
- 2:04Speaker 2: about twenty nine percent, So their argument is landing well,
- 2:07Speaker 2: but they would need to swing a few of the
- 2:09Speaker 2: don't knows their way just to make sure either way,
- 2:12Speaker 2: This is what this vote comes down to. The evidence,
- 2:15Speaker 2: although there and growing, is not cemented in enough yet
- 2:20Speaker 2: to feel really confident. So on these numbers though, I
- 2:23Speaker 2: would rather be the government than not. But on these
- 2:26Speaker 2: numbers it's all playful.
