- 1:36go ahead and kick this show off right
- 1:38now.
- 1:39This is Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:41This is series five, which means we're in
- 1:43our fifth year.
- 1:44We finished our fourth year, and that's January,
- 1:46February, March, April.
- 1:47We're on the year, so basically four years
- 1:49and four months.
- 1:51This is series five, show nine, and episode
- 1:54number two.
- 1:55And it's all about how people rebuild direction
- 1:57when everything gets disrupted.
- 1:59That's our master.
- 2:02And this episode of Inspirations for Your Life
- 2:03is with myself, John C.
- 2:06Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:11podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:15lifelong learner.
- 2:17And now, ladies and gentlemen, I am a
- 2:18published author.
- 2:19I'm very grateful for that.
- 2:20And I'm exploring what happens after disruption when
- 2:23awareness sets in and returns, and people begin
- 2:27rebuilding direction from the instability that they had
- 2:31in their life.
- 2:32So instability is just a sign that we
- 2:34can actually rebuild and we can do more
- 2:37in our life.
- 2:38All right, guys?
- 2:39So this week is all about second phase
- 2:42of transformations, not breakdowns, but recovery of clarity.
- 2:47And because after everything breaks, the next stage
- 2:51is not action.
- 2:53It is a subtle sense in the beginning
- 2:56of awareness.
- 2:57Now, when systems collapse, most people think the
- 3:01problem is external, but the real shift is
- 3:04actually internal to ourselves, because disruption removes structure.
- 3:09And without structure, awareness becomes visible again.
- 3:14I think that's important to know.
- 3:16At first, there is confusion.
- 3:18But underneath that noise, awareness starts returning.
- 3:23And clarity does not arrive all at once,
- 3:26guys.
- 3:27It returns slowly, layer by layer, as I've
- 3:30said before.
- 3:31And I think a lot of you here
- 3:32hopefully will understand what I mean and why
- 3:36I mean that.
- 3:37Because I think that's a very important thing
- 3:41for all of us to note.
- 3:44And I think what a lot of you
- 3:46think of this, or when you hear of
- 3:49this, hopefully recognize what's going on in your
- 3:53life or what's not going on in your
- 3:55life.
- 3:55I think a lot of times people, for
- 3:57some reason, I think they just get sidetracked.
- 4:01And they get sidetracked on many, many, many,
- 4:05many different things.
- 4:07It could be, like I said, a subtle
- 4:09awareness that changes in their life.
- 4:12It could be something else, right?
- 4:15But I think the main thing is that
- 4:17change is happening in people's lives.
- 4:21And that change is really, really important.
- 4:26OK?
- 4:27And so when you're thinking about change, when
- 4:31you're thinking about how that works or how
- 4:33that's going to execute, you're probably saying, oh
- 4:35my gosh, I have no clue where I'm
- 4:37going to start.
- 4:38And so you've got to start somewhere, right?
- 4:40I mean, that's the be all, end all.
- 4:43I think a lot of people, they get
- 4:44intimidated by what is actually there and what
- 4:49isn't there.
- 4:50I think that's a very important thing for
- 4:53us to at least be aware of, right?
- 4:57Maybe it's not something simple that you're just
- 4:59going to learn overnight.
- 5:00And you're not going to learn this overnight,
- 5:01guys.
- 5:01I'm going to tell you that right now.
- 5:02You are not going to learn this overnight.
- 5:05If you think you are, well, guys, I
- 5:07got news for you.
- 5:07You are, well, very, very mistaken.
- 5:11So when we think about clarity, when we
- 5:14think about things in our life, we have
- 5:15to think about what's happening right now.
- 5:18Not what was happening before.
- 5:20And we have to think about how is
- 5:21that going to change our life, right?
- 5:25How is it actually going to change our
- 5:27life?
- 5:27And a lot of people say to me,
- 5:28you know, John, I don't think I can
- 5:29make a change.
- 5:31And you know, those are important observations, right?
- 5:34People rebuild when everything gets disrupted, as I
- 5:37said.
- 5:37And so, you know, going through life and
- 5:41understanding things and being aware of things, you
- 5:43get insights on how things are supposed to
- 5:46happen and maybe give you some tidbits about
- 5:49what you can do in your life to
- 5:50make your life a little bit better.
- 5:52There's always going to be people around you
- 5:54saying, oh, no, you can't do this.
- 5:55You can't do that.
- 5:56And they're always going to be trying to
- 5:57rain on your parade because they're not looking
- 5:59to rebuild.
- 6:00They're looking to, what do we call it?
- 6:02Complain.
- 6:03Yes, moan and complain.
- 6:05And so, we have to realize that recovery
- 6:08is possible when we believe it is.
- 6:11Because after everything breaks, as I said, the
- 6:13mind does not restart instantly.
- 6:15It slowly reorganizes.
- 6:17Awareness returns step by step.
- 6:20And clarity rebuilds from the fragments that we
- 6:23have left.
- 6:24And so, when disruption happens, people first experience
- 6:27a sense of confusion.
- 6:28But confusion is not the end state, guys.
- 6:32It is the transitional state.
- 6:34Because underneath confusion, awareness is trying to return.
- 6:40Yeah, it's trying to return.
- 6:42But then, where do you go from there?
- 6:44Like, you know, where does it come from?
- 6:48And once awareness returns, structure begins to rebuild,
- 6:52guys.
- 6:53It begins to rebuild.
- 6:54And that's the real magical part.
- 6:56So, number one, guys, clarity begins forming.
- 7:01We have to be aware of that clarity.
- 7:05Confusion slowly reduces as we progress on.
- 7:09Number three, thoughts become structured.
- 7:13Now, they don't start out as structured.
- 7:15But they become structured over time, the more
- 7:20we become aware, right?
- 7:24Number four, guys, awareness increases gradually.
- 7:28When awareness increases gradually, our world changes, okay?
- 7:34Number five, reflection becomes active.
- 7:38You know, a lot of people turn their
- 7:40reflection off at certain times.
- 7:42Why?
- 7:43I think because they're scared.
- 7:45They're afraid that they might be what they
- 7:48want to be.
- 7:48And they're like, I'm not sure how to
- 7:50handle that.
- 7:51Number six, guys, emotional noise decreases.
- 7:57It decreases.
- 7:59It decreases in a way that causes us
- 8:02to sometimes doubt ourselves and what we're doing
- 8:05and why we're doing something.
- 8:06I think that's a very important fact that
- 8:12a lot of us just don't seem to,
- 8:14well, a lot of us don't seem to
- 8:16understand it.
- 8:17So, I think that's something, you know, really,
- 8:19really important to know.
- 8:23And so, as I said, number seven is
- 8:24understanding starts the rebuilding.
- 8:27And rebuilding is a process.
- 8:29It's not something that we just start, you
- 8:31know, like a washing machine or a dishwasher,
- 8:34and it just finishes.
- 8:35There is more to this than just pushing
- 8:38a button, walking away.
- 8:40Number eight, guys, patterns become visible.
- 8:44When the patterns become visible, our life starts
- 8:48to change.
- 8:50Our life starts to change.
- 8:52But again, not on a dime.
- 8:54Not a dime.
- 8:56Number nine, guys, perspective stabilizes.
- 9:00Perspective stabilizes.
- 9:02And I think that's a very important thing
- 9:04to note, is that our perspectives become reality.
- 9:07And if we can stabilize our perspectives, then
- 9:10our reality can happen a lot sooner because
- 9:12we're not floundering.
- 9:13We're not moving all around the whole world.
- 9:15I think that's an important thing to, you
- 9:18know, to definitely understand, like, you know, what
- 9:21is going on and why are things going
- 9:22on.
- 9:26And it's important to know why these things
- 9:29are happening, okay?
- 9:34It's important to know and be aware of
- 9:37these kind of things.
- 9:39That's probably the most important thing that I
- 9:41want to share with you.
- 9:43And so what I want to tell you
- 9:47is that, number 10, thinking will become clear.
- 9:52It might seem like your thinking is getting
- 9:54cloudier, but actually it's getting clearer, okay?
- 9:58Slowly.
- 10:00Number 11, insight begins to start forming.
- 10:04When we get insight, when we get inspiration,
- 10:10things change.
- 10:13Things change.
- 10:17And when things change and we see that
- 10:19there is, well, a little bit of a
- 10:22light at the end of the tunnel, we
- 10:25get a little excited.
- 10:26We get happy, okay?
- 10:35And we get happy because we see more
- 10:38potential, okay?
- 10:48And that's important to know.
- 10:54If we can realize one thing, and the
- 10:58one thing is that the awareness becomes the
- 11:03trigger for so many other things in our
- 11:05life.
- 11:06And I said that gets the insight to
- 11:08form, that gets the engine to start rolling
- 11:10again.
- 11:11Number 12, guys, control starts to return.
- 11:15We get that sense of calmness, okay?
- 11:22And so when we think about that, and
- 11:25when we know that we're calm, it's like
- 11:27things become easier, right?
- 11:31And I know you're probably saying to me,
- 11:33John, this makes sense.
- 11:36But then again, it doesn't.
- 11:39Well, let's think about this.
- 11:41If you ever could remember a time when
- 11:43maybe you're out of control.
- 11:43I know you're probably never out of control.
- 11:45But let's think about a time when you
- 11:47were out of control.
- 11:48And when you're out of control, things just
- 11:50become, well, they become different.
- 11:54They become, how can I say?
- 11:59They become more confusing, more frustrating.
- 12:05And the more frustrated you get, the more
- 12:08you just wanna stop.
- 12:14But that's not gonna go anywhere.
- 12:16Number 13, guys, direction feels possible.
- 12:20You see, when direction feels possible, our life
- 12:24takes on this new meaning.
- 12:28It takes on this new purpose.
- 12:32It starts to make us see why we
- 12:36have value, why we have value.
- 12:41And that might be something you're, I'm gonna
- 12:43say, floundering with, okay?
- 12:48But it's important to know.
- 12:51It's important to know that you can make
- 12:54a complete difference in your life if you
- 13:00believe you can change.
- 13:01If you can believe you can change, you're
- 13:03already halfway there, okay?
- 13:06Number 13, when your direction feels possible, the
- 13:12engines start to begin again.
- 13:14Your sense of hope starts to return.
- 13:20You start to notice a positive chemical field
- 13:24that is changing who you are.
- 13:30And before you know it, what you kept
- 13:34saying was impossible now is possible.
- 13:45Make sense?
- 13:52That's important to know.
- 13:54Number 14, guys, energy becomes focused, more focused
- 13:59the more you're aware.
- 14:03And I think when we can tie our
- 14:06awareness into our energy, because everything in our
- 14:10world is energy, right?
- 14:13We start to gain hope again.
- 14:15We start to see the possibilities.
- 14:18We start to daydream in a way that
- 14:21we haven't been able to do before because
- 14:22we were sabotaging our own thoughts before.
- 14:25Number 15, reaction decreases.
- 14:29I said we can be reactive or we
- 14:32can be proactive.
- 14:33The best thing to do is to be
- 14:36proactive.
- 14:37When you're proactive, you are calm, right?
- 14:44You're comfortable and you're in control.
- 14:49I think that's important.
- 14:51Almost like wearing a very calm, comforting, in
- 14:55control pair of jeans, right?
- 14:56That you put on.
- 14:57It just gives you that sense of being
- 14:59grounded.
- 15:02The observation increases.
- 15:03Now, ladies and gentlemen, number 17, the decisions
- 15:05you make will improve.
- 15:07They'll become better, okay?
- 15:10I'm not going to say they're all going
- 15:11to be perfect, but you're going to make
- 15:13better choices.
- 15:15Number 18, stability returns gradually.
- 15:18I think a lot of people get upset
- 15:20because they're not necessarily getting something.
- 15:23They're not necessarily getting what they want overnight.
- 15:26And I think that's something that a lot
- 15:28of people here say to me, I've been
- 15:30trying this, but I'm not getting where I
- 15:32want to be.
- 15:33The reason you're not getting where you want
- 15:34to be is you're putting too much darn
- 15:36pressure on yourself.
- 15:38Now, there's motivation, a little bit of pressure,
- 15:41but then there's really hard pressure that just
- 15:46causes you to just not move.
- 15:49When I talk about this in a very
- 15:51easy way so you can understand is friction.
- 15:53We need friction to be able to walk,
- 15:54for our cars to move, but what happens
- 15:56if we have too much friction?
- 15:57We become immobile, we stop.
- 16:01So a little bit of friction is good.
- 16:03Too much friction, no good.
- 16:04We completely stop dead in the water or
- 16:07on the tracks or on the road or
- 16:09wherever you are.
- 16:11Number 19, guys, planning replaces panic.
- 16:18Planning, that's being proactive, reduces the panic.
- 16:24Number 20, guys, learning becomes active.
- 16:28I think that's an important piece, learning becomes
- 16:36active.
- 16:38Number 21, mistakes become insight, mistakes become insight.
- 16:44And when the mistakes become insight, we're like,
- 16:46oh, wait a minute.
- 16:47I didn't know that that was possible.
- 16:55I didn't know that that was possible.
- 17:04I think these little moments in our lives
- 17:06help us to see that even bigger opportunities
- 17:12can come.
- 17:14But we first have to appreciate the smaller
- 17:16ones.
- 17:17And we have to gain confidence in those
- 17:19smaller ones before we can move on.
- 17:21I think that's probably one of the biggest
- 17:22things that I can tell all of you
- 17:24right now.
- 17:25You've got to embrace that spirit.
- 17:27You've got to embrace that belief.
- 17:29That's why BelieveMeAchieve.com is a foundation for
- 17:33what I do every day.
- 17:35A foundation for my talks, my books, for
- 17:38JCMacademy.com.
- 17:42Number 22, guys, confidence begins rebuilding.
- 17:47It starts a process of rebuilding.
- 17:53And when we know that we're in this
- 17:55rebuilding state, it's like all this other stuff
- 18:01around us doesn't harm us, doesn't bother us
- 18:04because we know we're on the way up.
- 18:05We know we're now building.
- 18:08Number 23, guys, focus improves steadily.
- 18:12I didn't say quickly.
- 18:13I said steadily, which means it's consistently improving.
- 18:16That's probably one of the most important things
- 18:19that I can tell you.
- 18:20It consistently improves.
- 18:23Consistently improves.
- 18:28Important, right?
- 18:33I think that's important to know.
- 18:40I think if we can understand these things,
- 18:41then we'll probably be able to make the
- 18:47better choices.
- 18:47We'll be able to make a decision.
- 18:51We're able to do it in a way
- 18:52that uses less energy, that makes life feel
- 18:59more like a flow than a restriction.
- 19:06Number 25, behavior becomes intentional.
- 19:13I've said before, when we can become intentional
- 19:15about our life, our life gains purpose.
- 19:18It gains meaning, keeps us more calm, comfortable,
- 19:26and in control of our lives when our
- 19:32behavior becomes intentional.
- 19:36Intentional is not something you just pull out
- 19:38of your back pocket.
- 19:40Intentional is something you think about.
- 19:43Intentional is something that you work toward because
- 19:47of a core set of values.
- 19:49Number 26, guys, momentum begins again.
- 19:58When momentum begins again, the cycle starts all
- 20:03over.
- 20:05The cycle starts all over.
- 20:07When that cycle starts over, we see that
- 20:12it's easier.
- 20:19It becomes easier.
- 20:24I say it becomes easier because now you're
- 20:28starting to align with your core values.
- 20:32With the momentum flowing again, we feel good
- 20:39not just because of our belief, but also
- 20:41it's actually triggering a chemical change in our
- 20:45brain that is making us feel good, making
- 20:48us now do more of this.
- 20:51It's stroking us in a way to say,
- 20:53look, we have to do more of this.
- 20:55Number 27, guys, your clarity will now strengthen
- 21:00your decisions.
- 21:04When you make a decision with clarity, it
- 21:08doesn't seem so hard.
- 21:14It just resonates.
- 21:16It just flows.
- 21:19It just goes.
- 21:24And that might seem very hard for a
- 21:26lot of people.
- 21:26How can I make this decision?
- 21:28I don't know.
- 21:31Well, you'll learn by the environment.
- 21:36You'll learn by people.
- 21:39And when a decision has to be forced
- 21:40or pressed, guess what?
- 21:43That's not the right decision.
- 21:45You might do it in panic, but that's
- 21:48not the right decision.
- 21:49I'll see if I can give you an
- 21:50example.
- 21:50I remember doing a lease for one of
- 21:53my offices a while back.
- 21:55And I remember the process being very unsmooth.
- 22:00We had a landlord that was from, well,
- 22:04let's say he was not very nice.
- 22:11And things were getting harder and harder with
- 22:15the stuff we had to do.
- 22:16After I was about to sign the lease,
- 22:19I signed the lease, and everything was just
- 22:21like a battle with him.
- 22:24And one of the best things ever happened
- 22:26to me.
- 22:28He threatened to triple my rent.
- 22:31And I said the words, goodbye.
- 22:36I think when some people are put under
- 22:38pressure like that, they feel they've got to
- 22:40respond.
- 22:42I said, I just have to move.
- 22:45I think too many people get obsessed with
- 22:47the game of drama instead of distancing themselves
- 22:52from those type of behaviors and people that
- 22:55are not good for their lives, toxic people.
- 22:58So as I said, clarity strengthens the decisions.
- 23:02And number 28, guys, structure starts returning again.
- 23:05When structure starts returning again, we can now
- 23:09be consistent, right?
- 23:13And we can now achieve progress.
- 23:20To have success, we have to be consistent.
- 23:22We have to have a structure.
- 23:25If we have a structure, we're not consistent,
- 23:26no good.
- 23:27If we're consistent, but there's no structure to
- 23:29what we're doing, that's a problem too.
- 23:32So I think these are things we have
- 23:33to think about.
- 23:36Number 29, awareness becomes consistent.
- 23:41The awareness of how we're being treated, the
- 23:44awareness of our environment, the awareness of everything.
- 23:49Let me ask you a question.
- 23:51When's the last time you were aware of
- 23:54something?
- 23:56Think about it.
- 23:57Was it today?
- 23:59Was it the temperature in the room?
- 24:01Was it hearing somebody's voice?
- 24:04Was it a smoke alarm or a fire
- 24:06alarm going off?
- 24:07Was it a horn being tooted while you
- 24:11were in traffic trying to be patient?
- 24:13Was it a cell phone going off?
- 24:16And when those things happened, did you just
- 24:19kind of go into like a zombie mode?
- 24:21Like, you know, here it is.
- 24:22And then bam, it's like, you like totally
- 24:27forgot you're on the phone or what you
- 24:28were doing.
- 24:29Did you become aware of those things is
- 24:31my question.
- 24:32If you didn't, then my question is, why
- 24:38not?
- 24:39Maybe you're going to say to me, John,
- 24:41I never realized I wasn't that aware.
- 24:44When you become more aware of things in
- 24:46your life, your life slows down.
- 24:49And you have time for everything you want
- 24:50to do and then some.
- 24:52Only when you become aware of your moments.
- 24:58Number 30, guys, direction reappears.
- 25:02Direction appears when we get clarity, when we
- 25:11become consistent, when we have that structure, right?
- 25:16These are the things I think that matter,
- 25:18I'm going to say, the most.
- 25:22And they matter the most because they get
- 25:25us thinking a certain way, a way that
- 25:28maybe we weren't before.
- 25:31The question you might be asking yourself is,
- 25:33hey, John, why wasn't I thinking this way?
- 25:38Well, you know, I wasn't always thinking this
- 25:39way.
- 25:42Something happened and it got me to change.
- 25:47My thoughts of what I'm doing and why
- 25:53I'm doing something.
- 25:54I'm going to give you another example.
- 25:56I was talking to somebody, it was an
- 25:58acquaintance today, via text on social media.
- 26:02And I was telling him about an event
- 26:04I was throwing.
- 26:07And they were so sidetracked telling me that,
- 26:13you know, they're going to this event and
- 26:15yada on that day.
- 26:17But really, it wasn't that day, it was
- 26:22today.
- 26:25And that's how disconnected they were from society.
- 26:29And people like that, over time, I don't
- 26:32waste time with them.
- 26:35And if they become a nuisance, I block
- 26:36them.
- 26:39You see, it works two ways.
- 26:40When you can be nice to somebody and
- 26:42you can be intentional, that's one thing.
- 26:44But when those people become me first and
- 26:48you second, it's time to say goodbye.
- 26:53As this process, ladies and gentlemen, unfolds, something
- 26:58important happens internally.
- 27:01We can call it a shift.
- 27:03But know that people stop reacting and start
- 27:06observing their life and other people's life.
- 27:09And that shift changes everything.
- 27:13Observation creates understanding.
- 27:16And understanding creates direction.
- 27:20At first, everything feels, but instability is not
- 27:26failure.
- 27:26It is an adjustment from data.
- 27:29The mind is no longer operating in old
- 27:31patterns.
- 27:32It is learning to rebuild structure in real
- 27:35time.
- 27:36Clarity does not return all at once, as
- 27:38I said.
- 27:39It returns gradually through awareness.
- 27:42Each improvement builds on the last.
- 27:46Each insight reduces confusion.
- 27:48Each correction strengthens the direction.
- 27:52Planning begins replacing panic.
- 27:55Learning becomes active again instead of reactive.
- 27:59Mistakes are no longer setbacks.
- 28:01And they become, as I said, more data
- 28:03for us to process.
- 28:05And data becomes insight.
- 28:08Confidence begins rebuilding slowly.
- 28:11Not from certainty.
