- 0:193 Tips to Navigate Sensory Overloads and Autism Hey guys,
- 0:23welcome back to the ASK Me ALL, What's up?
- 0:25My name is Dan, I have autism and ADHD and I make weekly
- 0:27videos all about this stuff. So if you're new around here and

- 0:39below. So sensory overload is something
- 0:40that happens to autistic people quite often and essentially
- 0:43overload one of our main causes of autism meltdowns.
- 0:45Now, if you're familiar with autism.
- 0:46And you're familiar with. Meltdowns.
- 0:48This is uncomfortable. Outbus of emotions are what
- 0:51happens when there is a loss of control in the environment of
- 0:54the autistic individual and it's not good.
- 0:56I myself do have these from time to time and I have to manage
- 0:59with them. So I've written down 3 tips to
- 1:01help navigate your way through these things.
- 1:02Now if you're only around here and you haven't downloaded my
- 1:04autism my fax PDF book, you can do right now from
- 1:07autismhacks.net and it's completely free and the link is
- 1:10in the description down below. OK guys, so the first one I'm
- 1:12going to talk about here is headphones now, always carrying
- 1:14noise cancelling headphones with you wherever you go.
- 1:16Now I actually have the Apple Airpod Max, I think they're
- 1:20called now. These are noise cancelling
- 1:21headphones and they are just absolutely fantastic.
- 1:23As soon as you put them on, it kind of blocks out all the noise
- 1:25and you can just actually, if you're in an environment that's
- 1:27sensory trigger and. Like an environment where it's.
- 1:28Too loud, noisy. Could be shopping, World train
- 1:30station anywhere. Put these headphones on and it
- 1:33just really does help. It dampens the noise and it's
- 1:36kind of like one of the things that I would never leave home
- 1:37without, because if I'm going somewhere, I know it's going to
- 1:39be noisy. I want to take my headphones
- 1:41because I want to kind of detach from that environment.
- 1:43It's a bit crazy and chaotic, right?
- 1:44So #2 is comfort over class and I always use this rule,
- 1:47especially when I'm traveling is that I'm put on like.
- 1:49Pajamas. Or like sweats or anything
- 1:51that's super, super comfy because I want to be comfortable
- 1:54rather than looking stylish, right?
- 1:55And so if I'm traveling on an airplane or bus or car, whether
- 1:58I'll just really chill and just get into like the company's
- 2:01clothes of it. As soon as I wanted my
- 2:02destination, I'll just go to the restroom and change into like
- 2:04professional clothes and I go into the event that I'm supposed
- 2:06to do now. This is amazing because it gives
- 2:09you that control in the environment that you really
- 2:10need, especially when traveling with this.
- 2:12Traveling can be kind of. Quite.
- 2:13Out of control, so comfort overclass wins every time.
- 2:16OK, so #3 is sunglasses. A lot of people overlook the
- 2:19thumb, but carrying sunglasses is a really good way to navigate
- 2:22through social situations and also people who are sensitive to
- 2:25light sensitivity. Like if the sun's too bright, if
- 2:27light are too bright, put sunglasses on.
- 2:29Helps kind of dampen that light ring in and it dampens that
- 2:32effect of that sensory input. And also, if you're talking to
- 2:34somebody, this is a pro tip. They believe that you're looking
- 2:37at them in the eyes. Even though it's difficult for
- 2:39us to say, people love people in the eyes because you can look
- 2:41anywhere around them but you've got sunglasses on so they won't
- 2:43even know. Guys, if this video is life
- 2:45changing for you on anybody else, please share in your
- 2:47social media account or leave me a comment down below.
- 2:49I read every comment and I'd love to interact.
