- Armed Anchored & Adorned: was this for you today? You're not alone. God whispered these things to my soul first. And then he whispered, there's more. When you hear that, who do you think of? Who stirs in your heart when you hear there's more? Pray about sharing this with them. Yep, them. Yep, you. Remember, we don't go to church. We are the church. Every one of us has a start and a finish line. Every day we get to choose how we will run that race. Will we choose ordinary or counterfeit or will we choose that abundant life that Jesus died to give us? Welcome to the Armed, Anchored and Adorned podcast. I'm so glad you're here. Hello, hello and This is my beautiful friend Kara. Over the last I know we did this or did this math already, but numbers and I we don't so we don't hang out eight years we have really Seen we have grown together we have Seen the Lord do some really really really cool things ⁓ Mama of two grown beautiful women wife of how many years 33 next month. That's so cool It's a blink. Babies. We grew up together. And I just love that. I really, I hope that for more. Yeah. I agree. think it's special. we connected when our worlds collide, because our church that I was going to lost its building. and we were running a Bible study and we needed a place to meet and your pastor at the church you were going to was like, come on over. And I was like, well, okay. so we met in Bible study. So ⁓ done several, lots of Bible studies. Lots of events, of prayer, lots of ⁓ Tons of planning. Lots of planning ⁓ and vision sharing. ⁓ Can I just say something really, really cool? ⁓ I, the day that I launched my first one, this woman here has been an iron that sharpens my iron in a lot of, a ton of ways, Kara. You really, I'm so grateful for it. And you've listened to me share the vision that I have felt the Lord place on my heart for a really long time. And I'm sure there's been some serious vision fatigue for you because I know there's been for me. And the day that I launched, I was over the moon excited. And there is this part of me that was just like, I really wanted somebody to celebrate with me, but I hadn't planned that it was going to be that day. I just did it in faith and I just jumped in. And then the Lord had you out of the blue. me which is rare very rare we we make plans and we meet this was ⁓ after your Bible study and I was just going around the town just I'm like I'm gonna go and celebrate I didn't even know what it was gonna look like but I was like man I wish somebody would that that would get it celebrate with me and she called and we went and had sushi yes And it was amazing. And we got to sit and just geek out about the faithfulness of the Lord. And that will always be a super special day for me. And it was totally God. ⁓ I wasn't even thinking, hey, let me call Tara and celebrate. I was just thinking, hey, I have time. I'm close to her house. Maybe we can meet. Let me take a chance. And so to have the privilege to celebrate that with you that that is a god thing yeah and that is to god be the glory all it was all him and i because you were seeing he saw you i didn't even ask right i didn't i'm just like still saw and he said it's like yeah you love it i know it makes me emotional like yes thank you for caring about that little thing that he knew it was important to me so and thank you for calling. That day was so great. I was obedient. Uh-huh. I love those moments. ⁓ we've a lot of things, ⁓ all for Jesus. ⁓ Every little bit of it has been ⁓ He was the reason, He was the why. And we are friends because Jesus. I love that. I at that as part of being anchored. And you have ⁓ been that for So ⁓ thank you. Wow, ⁓ That's it's not amazing to you. mean, it's like I don't know why I feel surprised to hear that because I feel that way about you, but I didn't know I was that way for you. But when we look back, you can. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. It's just that encouragement that for each other. Yeah. And again, I can't we say hard things. Yeah. And I can't for sure. And I can't tell you how much it means to hear that. Like there's something inside of me that lights up to hear that I. have been an encouragement to you. I don't think we share that enough with each other. No, we don't. I'm not just each other, but I mean in the body of sisters. so many times will focus on our lack instead of building one another up and what we see in each other that God is doing or has done. Very true. Very true. Very true. So I love that we get to take some time. and just kind of celebrate this. I see Jesus in you and I wanted to share, I wanted to share caro with you because I think Jesus shines beautifully in you. Praise the Lord. So how'd you meet him? You know, I used to have the story in my 20s of I don't have a testimony. I've just always known him. And I and I well, I don't know if it was really a lie. It was I hadn't really had any life experiences yet to be able to say this is where I was. And this is where what Jesus did through it. I understand. Kind of testimony. My testimony was I was raised in church. I I. always known him. What a privilege. I mean, that's a beautiful testimony. But the testimony I was looking for, you know, when I first started going to Bible studies and hearing other women share where this is where I was, which was so hard. Yeah. And then God did this through that and I didn't have one of those. And to say, I can't wait to have one is ridiculous because be careful what you ask for. I now have many testimonies. of the before and after, but where I met him was eight years old. then again at 12, just having a new understanding and a new depth of recognizing, oh wow, I really need him more at this level. And then again at 23, having that adult level. So, you know, I say I was dunked the first time and then I was really baptized at 23, where I felt like I knew him. I felt like. It was a true step of obedience to be baptized and walk with him. that's, mean, that's how I first got to know him. But there's so many more layers of depth of getting to know him since then, but that was the beginning. But I mean, well, what did it look like when he became your anchor, your everything? your what yeah it changed a lot of my habits it changed a lot of my mindsets and thoughts i worked a lot on on my thoughts and what i was doing in my to fill my time um at that time i had a two two to four year old this was so this was the 20s this was 20s this was between 20 and 25 okay wow uh 23 was how old i was when i really felt God saying, okay, you've been dipping your toes in both sides here for a couple of years. And 23 was a big shift. And it started with little habits of how I spend my time. What am I looking at? What am I doing on the weekends? Who am I hanging around with? What am I reading? What am I listening to? So music, books, movies, people all began to shift. So That is when I recognized if those things don't change, I'm going to really struggle to have God be my anchor. But if God is my anchor and what, how I put those things in my head in all those areas of my life, then that anchor can either stay firm and solid, or I'm going to be dragged. so between 20 and 23, it was anchored. drag, anchor, drag, drift. then, and then it, so those four, four areas really helped change to become an anchor. So you mentioned the drift. Yeah. ⁓ scripture talks about how he is the anchor to our soul in Hebrews. And then earlier in Hebrews, I am it's six and two. And I believe two is where He talks about, must pay ⁓ most careful attention to what you've heard so you don't drift away. And boy, that can happen so fast. So fast. So ⁓ That's what we're talking about and how desperate we really are for him to ⁓ keep us. I mean, do you have a time that you could share that you've experienced him as your anchor? Specifically one time. It's so much easier to recognize when you drift. But then I find myself also struggling to recognize the drift. So how interesting. ⁓ Well, ⁓ when drifted, did he pull you back? Usually his word. Hmm. ⁓ So in my 20s when I look at that, was because I was continuing to expose myself to believers and church and trying really hard to stop putting in things that I knew were causing me to drift. The things I listen to, the things I'm watching and the people I'm hanging around. I saw those really begin to affect my life and so the more that I would hang around people who, other people who believed, the more I was reading his word and the more that I wasn't, it was a lot of what I wasn't doing that kept me realizing, okay, this is what I'm anchored. But when I wasn't doing those things, I would very easily drift. So building those basic habits, disciplines of being in the word and listening to worship, those things really helped keep me anchored. But today that's very different. It's very difficult today for me to even recognize where I drift because I have such daily spiritual habits of being in the Word, worshiping, praying constantly all day long. Doing the thing. Doing the things that keep me anchored, but yet I can tell I'm drifting in my emotions. I can tell I'm drifting with what I'm thinking about or not thinking about. look at it either way. So it's more difficult to recognize the drift. And then what do I do to get back to being anchored? I endure. I stay, I stand firm and I keep doing things and I keep seeking and I keep reading and I keep praising and I keep choosing to believe what he says instead of what I'm feeling or what I'm seeing with my eyes. Because if we filter the things that are going on in our life before Jesus, then we're not gonna see Jesus. But if we flip that, and we look at, Jesus, what are you doing in these things? What do you want me to learn in this? What are you trying to teach me? Do you have something you want me to do in me for this or for who or for what? And that... generally will re-anchor me. It's really hard sitting in that uncomfortable space. Yeah, of unknown. Yeah, of feeling like I'm not... I don't feel like I've done anything to drift, yet I feel drifted. But I know that through the persevering, like James 1 says, Counting it all joy when you fall into various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience ⁓ and let patience its perfect work that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing. Don't misunderstand that to where we will arrive. Right, be perfect by any means. But it helps me to depend on Him and that becomes the anchor. It's depending on Him because perseverance produces character. ⁓ And that's what God cares most about. ⁓ that's uncomfortable. Yeah. We're finding our hearts. It is, it's quite the process. Yeah. And it keeps us humble. It keeps us dependent on Him. Thank you, Lord. And trusting Him. Yeah. ⁓ So that's why we can rejoice in it because it turns us to Him instead of on us or on the things of this world. I think I realized that in my ⁓ 20s. When I got pregnant my daughter outside marriage... after being raised in the church, knowing it was like, I wasn't so upset walking in my sin until I got caught. getting caught really broke me in a good way that it was like, the sorrow for my sin became real. Whereas before not having been caught, know, like nobody knows. Right. It's secret. Right. But I needed to get caught to have that sorrow for my sin. It really broke me. And by the time Jessica was born, I remember my mom saying to me years before that when she had kids, she that's why she went to church. That's why she brought us up in the church, because she knew she needed Jesus. So. that kind of came back like I can't do this without Jesus. Yeah. So that was my first really eye opener for I gotta have Jesus. I cannot do this without the Lord. But from 20 to 23, I think I mentioned before I was dipping my toes in the world and then with the Lord. So I was so thrown at... It sounds so immature and it was. Well, yeah. it is. Because... It's okay. This was the very beginning of my walk with him, but I was like... I'm still immature. Right? Well, like me too in so many ways, but in this way, it sounds... Like other people, you guys might say, well, duh, but I didn't know. I was like, well, okay, so I'm going to church and I'm studying the Bible, but then I'm also going downtown and going to the clubs on the weekends and drinking. And it just hit me that it wasn't even guilt. was, this is not who I am. It just didn't feel right. It was like that conviction of... Who do you want to be? Do you want to be God's girl that shines the light for Jesus or do you want to be in the world? And I mean that went on for three years before I was finally like, I don't want this anymore. Right. So that would be... It's almost like you have to get sick of it. Yeah. And realize... You gotta hate it enough. Yeah, be ready to be like, what am I doing? This is counterfeit. Yeah. And that's just one story. mean, I could, the current story for me would be when language comes out of my mouth. I hate it. Yeah. Same. And I, when I recognize what am I, what am I listening to? And it's usually a movie. And when I hear it, it comes out of my mouth. I that. So for me, this isn't for everybody, but for me, I have to be very careful what I allow in my ears because it could come out my mouth. You're not alone in that. I don't think it is not just for you. I don't think I don't know but you know some other people may not have that as a struggle. Right and this isn't you trying to convict anybody else. exactly that's my story. But I'm telling you you're not alone. I'm not guessing. I know she's not alone. We value the that the Lord has connected us of blows my mind. There's a that offers ⁓ soul healing prayer that You have been a part of years and years ago. We became friends I went and worked somewhere and got connected with her and I started going to her and then one conversation We revealed we were going to the same person That she was pivotal in my life life changing Bringing Jesus right into every single moment of our life woundings and bringing healings absolutely vital to our healing. And we all need it. We all need it. And so the whole reason that you and I, I feel just naturally connect is because we value places and spaces and moments and our time. ⁓ in things like that because we also I was also connected to a place uh this this cup is from a place that we are connected to but totally separate I was connected to it separately and you were connected to it separately oh I didn't know that I thought I was the one that told you about it no what no it was Steph and I and um Angela years ago oh for like dinner club But the retreat? I was scheduled to go. That's right. That's right. And then I was, yeah, so I was connected with her a long time before you. Okay. Yes. You did end up showing me there was a retreat part. Yeah. There was a an opening for me. Right. I had kind of dismissed it, but you did connect that part. we, I still was connected to this particular woman very separately. I didn't, I don't think I remembered that. Yeah. Oh, I love this conversation. And so where that is where I see the links of us sharing the heartbeat of the Lord, more of you, less of me. which has led us to do all the Bible studies, to go to retreats, and then we talk about ⁓ experiences there. these are the ways that we from drifting. Yes. And actually Linda, the retreat house that she ⁓ runs and owns, she is the one that gave me the verbiage. Like, anchored he gave me. Right. But the drift is that that concept. I remember sitting there and listening to her and being like, yeah that's why we need the anchor so bad. Or else we will drift. Yes. I mean his word says it but she just really highlighted that and how important it is to recognize it. so ⁓ we've talked about Bible studies and just Christ centered life doing it with his people. His word, his living word. What are other things that you do daily? You know, we talked about doing all the things. Well, like what things? Right. What if, you know, what if someone's like, I want to do some things. What would that look like? Well, I usually wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is open the Bible. That could look like in the current Bible study I'm doing that could look like the Bible verse of the day from the Bible app. Trying to get away from opening my phone. Yeah. Than the first hour because it's such a distraction. Talk about drifting. Wow. How did that not even come up as the first thing? So that if I have my phone out that first hour it it will take me four hours. To do something that takes 20 minutes. Yep. Because you know. drifting off into cyberspace. So the word, the word is the first thing every day. Worship. actually used to love to sing. I still love to sing, but just don't like to put myself out there in that way. I'm too embarrassed now, but as a kid, I grew up singing and instruments and piano and everything, but. ⁓ I didn't know that. No, I didn't. Actually, that's one of my things I want to do this year is get back to it. But cool. Here it is the end of February. I haven't done that yet. ⁓ yeah. End of February. Come on. But I know what to poke you on now. Yes. Great. put that out there. So worship that. That has been a huge it's been three years since I've learned that worship can take that drift. Yes. and put you right back there. Thank you Lord. Huge. I mean pivotal for me in the last three years of my life. that was wouldn't it? Why wouldn't it? Why wouldn't it? Why wouldn't it takes our eyes from us to the answer? And so I made a playlist on my phone. ⁓ It's actually named after a message of a famous pastor. called Defiant Worship in the Midnight Hour. ⁓ ⁓ whole message, Louis Gaglio, has been pivotal for me. ⁓ it just points to Jesus. And you've got ⁓ triangle and that clear view of Jesus, ⁓ our circumstances. So good. So worship is and what it does is ⁓ it takes ⁓ where I'm stuck in emotions, in my ⁓ thoughts, ⁓ in anxiety ⁓ and I just that playlist. put all the songs that are about him and who is. There's so many different kinds of worship songs, but this is important to have a playlist that is all about who he is, about who we are or what. You know, it's great to have those worship songs too, but when you're trying to get your mind off of all of this and get it on Jesus, you want to have the worship playlist of who he is. So that helps bring me back. That's really good point to to kind of let your eyes and your ears. recognize the difference between those two kind of worship songs. and they all are linking us to him... yet. when we're recognizing him as the King of Kings and the Holy of Holies, it puts us and our little problems into a whole different perspective for, and that's what we need. Otherwise, we drift. Drip and drowned. Drip and drowned. Very real. Yeah, and I don't ever want to come across as if That was then and we're not there now. I mean, I'm talking last week. I was Marco polling Tara saying, I need help. I'm stuck. And actually, I don't even think I had the words to say I'm stuck. Tara had to point out, you sound stuck. And I was asking for a counselor and for help and it's like, well, what's Jesus saying? And I feel like I was doing that, but I just wasn't hearing and I needed to endure and to keep pressing on and to not give up. Because he so wants to be with us. He so wants to speak to us. We just need to wait on him. He is the counselor. We need counseling sometimes. I'm not discounting that. For sure. At all. Yeah. But we do have access to the counselor. Yeah. And he is like, come on, let's deal with this thing. Because I know you're hurting. I know where you're hurting, why you're hurting, where it's from, and how to heal you. Yeah. And it's a lot quicker than... cheaper. Cheaper. Yeah, that was the other thing I kept saying was, somebody who doesn't charge this per hour. Jesus is free. He's free. ⁓ I think we so often don't want to sit in our feelings. We just want that quick fix. And I was wanting the quick fix. I really was. I was wanting, give me a person that can walk me through this and help me feel better. And sometimes we just need to sit in it and wait for him. Yeah, that's that's hard to say. I need to listen to myself. OK, so we say this to each other all the time. Not all the time, but I feel like recent. Yeah. We have ⁓ we have a very united, passionate heart for discipleship. We need to be discipled and. Therefore we are called by the Lord to disciple and make disciples. ⁓ So in those moments when we're speaking something over somebody else or one another, we recognize we need to write it down because it's for us too. Right back at you baby. Like all the time. All the time. Yeah, I have a very significant marker the day that I recognize that. I was speaking to my sister and her husband saying, divorce is not an option. And boy oh boy, next week did that come right back around to me and I was so grateful for it. And that's a story for another time. I can't wait. I can't wait. That's gonna be a one. That's so important to recognize. The Lord can work in through us. But man, he always has something for us too. I mean, work through us in others lives. Yeah. But we can't ever get to the point where we think we've got it figured out. It's why we need to be humble. Every moment. Lord, keep me humble. So some of the things that ⁓ just wanted to highlight ⁓ ⁓ that you and I share ⁓ thing I know you you take walks ⁓ and you're in prayer and I run and pray. ⁓ Prayer walks. of Lang. That was my next one. Journaling. Big, big thing for us. And if you are sitting there and you're like, don't journal. I don't like it. I don't try. I'm going to encourage you to just try it. quite frequently hear somebody say ⁓ Well, I want to write things like that down yes ⁓ Because they're somebody will read it ⁓ and and understand that but what? Then then you're not journaling what needs to be journaled well with the heart of yeah I'm talking to my creator. things recording ⁓ who he is what he's done and the power in writing that out and watching him transform your thoughts. It's like as you're writing things out, you have time. There's more time to process while you're writing than just this. ⁓ praying in your heart. Mm-hmm. That it's almost like the Lord is like changing the way you're thinking of things as you're writing them. Well, it can start out with writing scripture on one side of your paper and then go over to the other side and write, you know, depending on what the scripture is saying. If you're writing in from the Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, pull out what you will do. The word says that we will praise him and we will elevate him and we will worship him. then write over to the, you know, write the whole scripture and then come over here and say, I will worship him today. I will, I will lift up the name of the Lord. So you're not writing necessarily your circumstances ⁓ the people that are driving you You're trying to write down. What does God say and what am I declaring? What will I declare that I will live because of Jesus? keeping your journaling ⁓ focused on him ⁓ more than your circumstances. It isn't about Dear Diary. Right. Lord, I'm submitting these things to you. then it ⁓ on record to where He will ⁓ draw back to say, look what ⁓ I've ⁓ Remember you prayed here? Yeah. I've answered it. Things that I... forget that I was so everything to me in that particular moment. It's gone. I just totally forgot about it. And then I'll take my little highlighter or my red pen and underline where I've seen God. How has he loved me? Yes. And. And that builds your faith in a way that nothing else does. It's been a. game changer for my my faith and trust and he is who he says he is. and you know somebody pointed this out to me also it may not be always just for you at some point we may not have access to having 20 bibles in our home and this may be we have journals of people that kept record of their faith. Mmm, and how powerful Wow what a thought so yeah able to Have somebody stumble across that and have a fire lit within them Because of what the Lord's done in and through us and our little lives. Yeah. Yes Lord, I Whatever here's my journal helped me to write it down and he impressed that on me a long time ago write it down. Yeah so prayer walks, worship, journaling, Bible studies, and just good old fashioned hanging out with coffee and sharing how he's moving and where you want him to move and bear the burdens with one another. Like we really do that. And I'm sharing it again, Marco Polo. P.S. I get no money from Marco Polo. I am not a sponsor. I am not a sponsor for Marco Polo. Yet Marco Polo called me, I suppose, if he wanted. I still use the free version. I mean, it is so wonderful to be able to share life in that way. It is just a video app where we can stay connected because we can't have coffee every day and we can't talk every other day, but we can Marco Polo at the same time. We can't talk every day at the same time. But leaving a video and being able to look at the ceiling of your car while you're driving. because I don't like the look of it. And that's not even what it's about. It's just about listening to each other. And I just love it. But every once in a while, was like, girl, look at this. I do love that part. Yeah, for sure. So. ⁓ And what I have always loved about you is the fact that you recognize the call of the Lord to each one of us that it isn't about we go to church, we are the church, not just on Sundays and the ways that you serve and you are part of the body and you disciple. and you pour in and you will stop and pray and you you will serve you will be at the events and help put lights on and make a dish or grab a bag or something clear plates clear tables I mean it's whatever we every toe every finger every arm anything that you can do is used to is not even, I don't like the word used. I know. Is remarkably important. Yes it is. To bring it all together. To show, to shine Jesus. Yeah. If you think about, you know the guy, have you ever heard of Nick Vechuchik? I'm probably butchering his name. Is he the one that has no legs? No arms. No legs. I want you, so he's a remarkable, his story's remarkable. girl, look him up. I'm sorry I didn't spell him right. Just speak it into your phone and it'll figure it out. But if you picture the church like that, like a human that's just the head and a torso. Like he makes it work and he gets around and he's got his things. But the Lord has made us so complete and he has a lot of challenges. And again, am, he really should listen to his story. But just you highlighting that is really one of the main reasons I love you because you really see it. recognize we see our little offering of our clear plates as sometimes we can recognize that as, I just did this. But no, that's so needed. And you're not willing, you're not willing, and you're not willing to do any of it. Well, sometimes we don't want to. But boy, sometimes when I'm obedient in that place, I'm blessed the most and I'm trying to bless others. I love how he does that. Isn't that beautiful? I love how he does that. Nothing's wasted. Not one little thing. But that's one of the main reasons how willing you are to step into those spaces. And you really do see the invitation and you accept the invitation to, we don't go to church, we are the church. And you model that beautifully. And I just want you to hear that and thank you. Encourage you and encourage others. know, we, we all have a little space. to shine the light, serve and love Him through what we've got if we're the toe. You know, that started out for me and but with just this verse, everything you do, do it as if you're doing it for the Lord. And in my 20s, I didn't have a clue what I had to offer. I mean, I still struggle with that, but I don't think it's the point. The point isn't what we have to offer. It's that we all have something to offer. To just be obedient to what he puts on your heart. And sometimes you don't even know it's him putting it on your heart and you do it and it ends up being this huge blessing for someone. Like calling you up to go to lunch. mean, you know, that's how good God is. It doesn't even have to be this big, what is it? Let me plan it. Let me think it ahead. He just does it through us. We don't have to overthink. And it's different every day. Yeah. So thanks. God be the glory. All of it. It's all for Him. Well, what I would love to do is will you pray for those that may be experiencing the drift or feeling the nudge to ⁓ next thing the Lord's calling them to? Just cover ⁓ that ⁓ in those spaces. Absolutely. ⁓ Lord, we thank you so much for loving us. Thank you that you so wanted to be with us, that you went to great lengths all throughout time to dwell with us. Thank you Lord. Sometimes that just overwhelms me to think that who are we that you should want to be with us and yet you sent Jesus. Thank you, thank you Lord. We are so desperate. for you and we just thank you that you love us that much. So God, I just pray that anyone out there who is feeling very distant or not experiencing your presence, Lord, it is your truth and your word that you desire to make yourself known and seen and believed. You see all and you love. all of your children. And so God, we just ask that you would open up the hearts and the minds of those who are feeling alone. You never leave us nor forsake us. You are with us always. I ask that you would wash over each person with peace that passes all understanding. I pray God that they would fall before you. and that they would just lay before you everything that's heavy on their heart because you can take it. You already know. And I pray that you would reveal to them your forgiveness and your love and you would speak to them who they are because of Jesus. They are loved and chosen and holy and righteous and adopted and forgiven and sought after. And I pray God that they through their confession and through through their recognition of your love that they would have joy. Yes. Joy abundantly flow from them and that they would then go and be the light to others so that we would bring more people into your kingdom. And I thank you again for everything that you're going to do through this podcast and through every year that hears these messages, Lord. And I just praise you and thank you. all the glory goes to you in Jesus name amen amen amen yes lord he's so good yeah he is thank you so good ⁓ okay so one more quick question what's for dinner it was gonna be taco bowls and this this time i knew what we were having but i'm going out to dinner tonight ⁓ he said yes he said yes ⁓ My husband works in Orlando, so we're gonna meet before today's Ash Wednesday. Yay! So we're gonna meet before not Ash Wednesday, but yay for dinner. Yay for a last minute date night! Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I that often. Thank you Lord for preparing our hearts for what's... For sure. And that he gets to go, because Brent rarely gets to go to stuff during the week, but now he has a job where he gets to go to those things. That's so cool. Huge, huge praise.
