Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Emily A Body popping in with five Minute
- 0:19Speaker 1: Friday from Hurdle. This week, I am writing you one
- 0:23Speaker 1: of my all time favorite New York stories. It is
- 0:28Speaker 1: absolutely bizarre, and we are now at the point in
- 0:31Speaker 1: quarantine where I'm digging into the archives. If you can
- 0:36Speaker 1: also not believe what I'm about to tell you, I
- 0:39Speaker 1: would love to hear about it over on social tag
- 0:42Speaker 1: me hit me up at Hurdle podcast and also at
- 0:45Speaker 1: Emily a Body And as always, as you know, I'm
- 0:48Speaker 1: here for you over email, It's Emily at Hurdle dot us.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So I'll set the scene.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It's like I want to say, four or five years ago,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and I'm leaving Midtown Manhattan, the hod rooftop in Grand Central,
- 1:03Speaker 1: waiting for the subway to arrive and go uptown. Standing
- 1:06Speaker 1: on the platform, and I see a man on the
- 1:09Speaker 1: opposite platform who's about to go downtown.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We catch eyes. I think he's good looking. I keep
- 1:16Speaker 2: going about my business.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I look up again and I notice that he's still
- 1:19Speaker 1: looking at me, and I keep going about my business.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Then I get on my uptown train and I look
- 1:25Speaker 1: back at him and we both laugh. And my train
- 1:28Speaker 1: leaves and I get off the subway and I call
- 1:31Speaker 1: my friend and I say to her, the weirdest thing
- 1:34Speaker 1: just happens. You know, as New Yorkers, I feel like
- 1:36Speaker 1: we are trained to not maintain eye contact with a
- 1:40Speaker 1: single soul. But in this instance, I made eye contact
- 1:44Speaker 1: with this person not once, not twice, but three times.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I said, the weirdest thing happened to me at Grand Central,
- 1:53Speaker 1: this guy.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And this thing. And I explained it all to her.
- 1:56Speaker 1: She said, you need to post that on misconnections. I
- 2:00Speaker 1: was like, what are you talking about.
- 2:01Speaker 2: She's like Craigslist miss connections.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So for those of you that don't know, there is
- 2:05Speaker 1: an entire board on Craigslist and dedicated to miss connections,
- 2:09Speaker 1: people looking for other people that they might not know
- 2:12Speaker 1: that have literally missed their opportunity to connect. And so
- 2:17Speaker 1: I did it. I went on miss Connections. I posted
- 2:20Speaker 1: and I said, if you were the man on the
- 2:23Speaker 1: south platform at Grand Central at this time, and you
- 2:26Speaker 1: could tell me what I was wearing, what I looked like,
- 2:28Speaker 1: what my hair looked like, then maybe we were meant
- 2:32Speaker 1: to meet. Never in a million years thinking anyone would
- 2:38Speaker 1: answer this message. Within twenty four hours, I had a
- 2:43Speaker 1: few creepy messages but I had the message in my
- 2:50Speaker 1: email inbox. It was from him. I will not reveal
- 2:52Speaker 1: his name. Let's call him Charlie. Charlie emails me and
- 2:58Speaker 1: says it was me you wearing and this is correct,
- 3:01Speaker 1: a black lace top holding a black clutch purse in
- 3:05Speaker 1: your hand. You had beautiful curls. We smiled at each
- 3:08Speaker 1: other twice before you got on the train, and then
- 3:11Speaker 1: we laughed, and then you left. He continues on to say,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I am happily married, but if you want to meet sometime,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I work near Grand Central. It would be great to
- 3:22Speaker 1: get a cup of coffee. Okay, guys, First of all,
- 3:25Speaker 1: if a man tells you that he's happily married but
- 3:27Speaker 1: he's also checking misconnections and wants to meet for a
- 3:30Speaker 1: cup of coffee, I'm not all that sure that he's
- 3:33Speaker 1: actually happily married. But I did have an appreciation that
- 3:38Speaker 1: a he found the message, that he went looking for
- 3:41Speaker 1: the message, and Jesus, that is just like some New
- 3:44Speaker 1: York magic. So I wrote him and I said exactly
- 3:47Speaker 1: that that I appreciated him for closing the loop, and
- 3:50Speaker 1: then that was kind of magical in its own way,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and I wished him the best of luck and we
- 3:54Speaker 1: never spoke again.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Never.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite stories. It is bizarre so
- 4:00Speaker 1: that that connection actually happened. And so I know you're wondering,
- 4:05Speaker 1: what how is Emly going to spend this What is
- 4:07Speaker 1: this prompt going to be the prompt for this week?
- 4:10Speaker 1: What is one connection that you are grateful for right now?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Who is someone that you cannot imagine your life without
- 4:19Speaker 1: during this time?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Now?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Obviously, quote unquote Charlie is not my soulmate, but it
- 4:24Speaker 1: does make me laugh. It makes me appreciate this place
- 4:27Speaker 1: I call home, and it makes me think about the
- 4:29Speaker 1: connections I do have in real life and who I
- 4:33Speaker 1: am so.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So grateful for. I hope you enjoyed this little snippet
- 4:36Speaker 2: of my New York City history highlights of the week.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm not too sure if y'all follow Amanda Klutes on Instagram.
- 4:44Speaker 1: She is an outrageous fitness instructor a former dancer. She's
- 4:48Speaker 1: known for her jump rope workouts and she is going
- 4:51Speaker 1: through it right now. Her husband, Nick Cardero is mega
- 4:55Speaker 1: talented as well a Broadway star. The couple recently had
- 5:00Speaker 1: first son, Elvis, and Nick is unfortunately in the hospital now.
- 5:05Speaker 1: He's been in a coma after having a positive COVID
- 5:09Speaker 1: diagnosis out in Los Angeles and has had since to
- 5:12Speaker 1: have his leg amputated. Is just dealing with a lot
- 5:15Speaker 1: of stuff and my heart so much so goes out
- 5:20Speaker 1: to her and her family. Every night at six pm
- 5:24Speaker 1: Eastern three pm Pacific, Amanda encourages her followers and everyone
- 5:29Speaker 1: around the world to blast one of Nick's songs, live
- 5:34Speaker 1: your Life out Loud, and sing and dance to it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So I, although not knowing Amanda personally, have been playing
- 5:40Speaker 1: this song in his honor, dancing around, and I encourage
- 5:43Speaker 1: all of you, wherever you might be, to do the same.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And I'll put her information in the show notes so
- 5:48Speaker 1: you can look her up and send your well wishes.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Another highlight this week my good friend Nick Dio and
- 5:55Speaker 1: my other friend Michael Chrenau sitting down for Churnow's podcast
- 6:00Speaker 1: Born or Made. Nick is a talented soul. He's got
- 6:04Speaker 1: so much good karma to put into the world, and
- 6:06Speaker 1: I loved hearing his story about how he got a
- 6:10Speaker 1: job that so many people would slay for at Vaynermedia,
- 6:14Speaker 1: working with Gary Vee, and just his insight into going
- 6:17Speaker 1: after what you want and the stories that he has
- 6:19Speaker 1: to tell on the show. They're priceless, so I highly
- 6:22Speaker 1: encourage everyone to go give that a listen. Another highlight
- 6:25Speaker 1: of my week, I also made the most unbelievable buffalo
- 6:30Speaker 1: cauliflower recipe from one of my all time favorite bloggers.
- 6:34Speaker 1: She was literally one of the first ones I ever followed.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Her name is Jessica Merchant. Her website is how Sweet Eats,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and it is delicious and you have got to try it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And my last highlight of the week is my new
- 6:49Speaker 1: pair of Pegs. I've been getting a ton of questions
- 6:51Speaker 1: in the DMS asking me what I think about the
- 6:54Speaker 1: new Nike Pegasus thirty seven, and I am really into
- 6:58Speaker 1: the ride. Obviously I hadn't been running as much lately,
- 7:01Speaker 1: but what I love about these is they feel more
- 7:04Speaker 1: plush than my old pegs the last iteration. And that's
- 7:07Speaker 1: because what they've done with this is brought their zoom
- 7:10Speaker 1: air bag as they call it. Instead of being in
- 7:12Speaker 1: the whole shoe, they put it in the forefoot and
- 7:14Speaker 1: so it makes it feel more springy. It's also now
- 7:17Speaker 1: twice as thick as it used to be, so I'm
- 7:19Speaker 1: really just loving the toe off and how strong I
- 7:23Speaker 1: feel when I'm running it up. Closing out this week's
- 7:25Speaker 1: episode of Five Minute Friday with a quote that someone
- 7:28Speaker 1: said to me the other day that life is an
- 7:30Speaker 1: all logic.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You have to make room for emotion too. Think on
- 7:35Speaker 2: that one. Y'all.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Have a great weekend at Emily A Body at Hurdle
- 7:39Speaker 1: podcast Another Hurdle Conquered.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Catch you next time.
