- 0:08Speaker 1: Bow and they are were a whizz. So yeah, it's
- 0:10Speaker 1: too bad, But what did you expect?
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's a podcast called twenty five Whist twenty wine. Everybody,
- 0:18Speaker 2: welcome to the show. We're gonna do an hour with
- 0:21Speaker 2: Rich Eisen Rich a legend if you watch Sports Center
- 0:26Speaker 2: back when Sports Center was actually watched. I don't watch
- 0:28Speaker 2: Sports Center anymore.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Do you no? But his day is absolutely yeah.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I mean definitely the way you could even get scores, Yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 2: and it would come on all the time. I guess
- 0:36Speaker 2: now I watch TikTok or Instagram, yeah, or I just
- 0:40Speaker 2: search for it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Are there any famous anchors even now? Now?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Obviously the medium has changed, right, We're not saying they're
- 0:48Speaker 2: worse today they were than they were then.
- 0:50Speaker 1: But I don't know any of the sports guys. No.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I feel like every time I do watch it, it's
- 0:56Speaker 3: somebody different, so I can't like relate or know any.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Rich wildly famous for Sports Center back in the day
- 1:04Speaker 2: NFL network. He has his own The Rich eisen Show now,
- 1:07Speaker 2: which is on the Roku channel from twelve to three
- 1:09Speaker 2: Eastern every weekday.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And I've spoken to Rich on the phone.
- 1:13Speaker 2: He called before I filled in for him the last time,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and he was like, hey, I always want you to
- 1:17Speaker 2: know and I was like, this is crazy.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm talking to Rich Eisen.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We interviewed him on this show but on zoom from
- 1:22Speaker 2: his studio, and I was like, that's crazy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That's Rich Eisen. But I never met him in person.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And I think I mentioned this.
- 1:28Speaker 2: My wife was like, oh, you're going to see Rich
- 1:30Speaker 2: Eisen again. I was like, I never met him. She
- 1:32Speaker 2: was like, can you go. I was like yeah, but
- 1:33Speaker 2: I went because he wasn't there, you know, filled in,
- 1:36Speaker 2: But I loved him. Rich is a legend in the
- 1:38Speaker 2: sports broadcasting world ESPN from back in Sports Center days,
- 1:41Speaker 2: NFL Network since two thousand and three, multiple movies, has
- 1:44Speaker 2: done at all. You can follow him on Twitter and
- 1:46Speaker 2: Instagram at Rich Eisen and Rich Eisen Show.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And I think we just get to it.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Anything I'm missing here.
- 1:52Speaker 1: No, this is awesome, Jack. Was it cool for you?
- 1:54Speaker 1: It was? Yeah?
- 1:55Speaker 3: I mean yeah, he's a pinnacle for me personally of
- 1:58Speaker 3: like a sports broadcasting guy that I grew up watching.
- 2:01Speaker 3: He talks about a little bit going to bed and
- 2:02Speaker 3: waking up and seeing him every day.
- 2:04Speaker 1: That was me on the West coast, falling asleep every day,
- 2:07Speaker 1: then waking up with the rich, then waking up with
- 2:09Speaker 1: the rich both. Let's say, all right, here he is,
- 2:11Speaker 1: this is Rich eisen Rich. Thanks for coming over. You
- 2:14Speaker 1: got it, Bobby.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I was watching on I guess Instagram all all the
- 2:19Speaker 2: things you were doing the Hall of Fame last couple
- 2:21Speaker 2: of nights.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yes, sir, you got to be exhausted.
- 2:24Speaker 4: No, I'm I'm I'm invigorated, brother, like this is.
- 2:28Speaker 2: But do you go to work tomorrow? Will you do
- 2:29Speaker 2: the show tomorrow?
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna do the show tomorrow.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yeah, flying back to La tonight as soon as I'm
- 2:33Speaker 4: done with you got a flight?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Did you at least fly private from Canton to here?
- 2:38Speaker 1: No?
- 2:39Speaker 4: Well, yes, private is known as business select.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you know so, but that was Cleveland to hear
- 2:49Speaker 1: and so. But you know, I do love.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Going to the Hall of Fame is something I've done
- 2:55Speaker 4: almost as much as anything else that I've done with
- 2:57Speaker 4: NFL Network. And it's the only Hall of Fame where
- 3:03Speaker 4: it kicks off a season. Everybody else's Hall of Fame
- 3:06Speaker 4: is usually mid season or total off season. Like this
- 3:09Speaker 4: is the signal, the signal that it's back, so that
- 3:12Speaker 4: it's always neat to celebrate the pass as you're about
- 3:15Speaker 4: to kick off the present. It's a really neat affair.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You spend a time with Devin Hester, I did. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 2: I think I would like him. You would, I think
- 3:23Speaker 2: you sure would. And I think at this point now
- 3:25Speaker 2: I can kind of tell somebody's personality. Yeah, social media
- 3:29Speaker 2: kind of allows that.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Now. I think I would like Devin Hester. What's that
- 3:31Speaker 1: guy like?
- 3:32Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I've known of him for quite
- 3:35Speaker 4: some time, working with Dion Sanders, who took him in
- 3:39Speaker 4: because Devin didn't have a dad. I believe his dad
- 3:43Speaker 4: died when he was eleven, so Dion was kind of
- 3:46Speaker 4: his father figure. So to see Dion there for the
- 3:49Speaker 4: jacket presentation, to be the one to put it on
- 3:51Speaker 4: him was a pretty neat moment for both guys. He's
- 3:54Speaker 4: he's considered a Devon a son for a long time.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I was there on a Thursday night football game in
- 4:00Speaker 4: Atlanta when he broke Dion's record for returns with Dion
- 4:06Speaker 4: there underneath Dion's banner in Dion's house that he built
- 4:09Speaker 4: the Georgia Dome, And it's pretty amazing that I think
- 4:16Speaker 4: The thing that makes him particularly special is that. Listen,
- 4:22Speaker 4: the thing you love in sports the most is when
- 4:26Speaker 4: the expectation level is not just met, but surpassed. And
- 4:30Speaker 4: anytime he touched the ball, you expected something special to
- 4:33Speaker 4: happen with him. And the number of times that he
- 4:36Speaker 4: did it when it was expected of him on the
- 4:40Speaker 4: biggest stages like the Super Bowl or a Thursday night
- 4:42Speaker 4: game with Dion in the house.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The fact that he.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Got an opportunity to return one and then he did
- 4:48Speaker 4: it is what makes him a Hall of Famer. And
- 4:51Speaker 4: those are the most special moments in sports where you're like, boy,
- 4:54Speaker 4: this guy hits a home run.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Boy, I hope he returns one.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Boy, I'd love to see, you know, him win a
- 4:59Speaker 4: game with a three point shot. And they've the sports
- 5:02Speaker 4: gods bestow them with the opportunity and then they cash
- 5:06Speaker 4: it in. It. It really is something else to see,
- 5:08Speaker 4: and he's he's really special in that regard.
- 5:11Speaker 1: How did you and Dion become close?
- 5:13Speaker 4: Well, I mean we worked together so and that was
- 5:18Speaker 4: that was about it. We started working together at NFL
- 5:22Speaker 4: Network in the mid aughts, and you know when when
- 5:25Speaker 4: Dion joins, obviously there's a buzz and there's an excitement
- 5:31Speaker 4: level because of what he brings to the table. But
- 5:33Speaker 4: there's also, and he'll tell you this, an expectation that
- 5:37Speaker 4: he makes it about him because he's prime time and
- 5:41Speaker 4: and and and he is somebody that invites the spotlight.
- 5:47Speaker 1: He doesn't just basket it. He invites it.
- 5:50Speaker 4: So anybody who's worked with him or was a teammate
- 5:54Speaker 4: of his will we'll let you know. He's the most collaborative,
- 5:57Speaker 4: best teammate that you can have. And begun when the
- 6:01Speaker 4: highlights show that we were doing together from jump when
- 6:05Speaker 4: he joined NFL Network NFL Game Day Highlights, which was
- 6:08Speaker 4: the highlights show after the late afternoon games were over
- 6:13Speaker 4: in advance of Sunday Night Football, and then after Sunday
- 6:15Speaker 4: Night Football, it was me, Dion and Steve Mariucci and
- 6:21Speaker 4: Steve was kind of new to television, and so they
- 6:24Speaker 4: put Dion in the middle and Steve at the end
- 6:27Speaker 4: of the set. And Dion said, first thing, he goes,
- 6:31Speaker 4: let's not have Steve on the outside. Let's have him
- 6:34Speaker 4: in the middle, because you know, if I'm in the
- 6:37Speaker 4: middle and I'm talking to Rich, it's.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You know, Steve will be forgotten.
- 6:41Speaker 4: He's going to be out there on on his own,
- 6:44Speaker 4: and I was totally blown away by that. He was awesome.
- 6:48Speaker 4: He was always thinking about other people. I had a
- 6:51Speaker 4: fortieth birthday party. He surprised me by flying in from
- 6:54Speaker 4: Texas just for it. He's the best man and I've
- 6:58Speaker 4: just him and he was given out the first Thursday
- 7:02Speaker 4: Night season. He was always telling much that his shoes stunk,
- 7:08Speaker 4: so he was going to get Gucci's for his Mucci
- 7:10Speaker 4: and he got him Gucci shoes, and then he asked.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Everybody for their sizes.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Didn't want to leave anybody out, so we all got
- 7:16Speaker 4: Gucci slipped you know, we all got these awesome Gucci
- 7:22Speaker 4: slip on shoes. I could tell deonn stories for days.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I think it was about twenty seventeen. ABC called and
- 7:30Speaker 2: I've done a little work with them. This is pre Idol,
- 7:33Speaker 2: before I was on Idol for a bunch of years
- 7:34Speaker 2: and Dancing with the Stars. Yes, and they kind of
- 7:36Speaker 2: just flirted with putting me on because it wasn't like
- 7:38Speaker 2: coastal guy. You know, I didn't live in LA, didn't live.
- 7:41Speaker 1: In New York.
- 7:43Speaker 2: And they were like, hey, come out and test for
- 7:45Speaker 2: this daytime talk show.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And I was like Oh cool, that's great.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I've done a lot of tests, and I get there
- 7:50Speaker 2: and you've actually been famous for a long time. I've
- 7:53Speaker 2: only ever flirted with like the crust of the water, right,
- 7:56Speaker 2: you know. So I'm up and it's like me and
- 7:58Speaker 2: I'm doing all these panels with like Rudy Huxtable and
- 8:02Speaker 2: fueling in or Ransick and like house the eighth Housewife
- 8:07Speaker 2: of these shows. And so I make it through that day,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and so I really didn't know what I was doing
- 8:13Speaker 2: even going out there meeting. I didn't know it was
- 8:15Speaker 2: going to be like can you survive day one to
- 8:17Speaker 2: get to day too? So then I'm in like day
- 8:19Speaker 2: two with like slightly more famous people.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So now it's like theo Huxtable and then it's.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Like this, you upgraded the fifth Housewife.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So I continue to move through and there are actually
- 8:31Speaker 2: like famous people that are testing for the show on
- 8:33Speaker 2: the very last day, and it's a little intimidating for me,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and everybody's in their clicks in the.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Very Hollywood way.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And so I'm just sitting at this cafeteria in this
- 8:44Speaker 2: cafeteriity table by myself, and somebody goes, hey, you can
- 8:47Speaker 2: come sit over here. And I looked up and it
- 8:49Speaker 2: was freaking Deon Sanders, who I'd never met. He didn't
- 8:53Speaker 2: know me, but he just saw me sitting by myself.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Now I'm an adult man at this point too, It's
- 8:57Speaker 2: not like I'm a twelve year old kid. But it
- 8:59Speaker 2: was that four Gump moment where you know, can't see
- 9:01Speaker 2: he seats taken. What really felt like that? And so
- 9:03Speaker 2: he invited me over and I talked with him for
- 9:05Speaker 2: a while, and then we worked together because him and I,
- 9:09Speaker 2: it was him and I that ABC picked to the show.
- 9:11Speaker 2: We worked there every day for four months. What And
- 9:14Speaker 2: I tell people like, he was like the greatest I'll
- 9:17Speaker 2: look out for you dude.
- 9:18Speaker 1: That I've ever worked with.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, right when he was coaching his kids in high
- 9:22Speaker 2: school at the time, should Or he was the high
- 9:25Speaker 2: school coach down in Texas, and he fled back and
- 9:28Speaker 2: forth and Tracy would come.
- 9:29Speaker 1: For his truth.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, And so we did the show for ABC. They
- 9:33Speaker 2: changed their kind of executive hierarchy, and the show went
- 9:37Speaker 2: to pilot and then it did not get picked up.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And so we went from working together every day for
- 9:42Speaker 2: four months to not at all. But I kid you not,
- 9:45Speaker 2: he would just reach out randomly, and I would be
- 9:47Speaker 2: amazed that somebody so world renowned, excellent at what he does,
- 9:51Speaker 2: regardless of what area he was in, would actually think
- 9:54Speaker 2: to remember and care. And so then when he got
- 9:57Speaker 2: the job at Jackson State, I reached out super cool
- 9:59Speaker 2: Colorad and the perception I think that people have of him,
- 10:05Speaker 2: and I don't think it's unfair because I think he
- 10:06Speaker 2: does it.
- 10:06Speaker 1: He knows what he's great and invites, Yes, he invites it.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But I would be like his biggest and he didn't
- 10:12Speaker 2: need an advocate of like, he's the greatest dude ever.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And one of my books come out, he took a
- 10:16Speaker 2: picture and posted on social media from reading the book
- 10:19Speaker 2: with the cover up. Didn't ask him, And I just
- 10:21Speaker 2: remember Dian being so cool. So when he comes on
- 10:23Speaker 2: your show, I'm always like, man, that is you know,
- 10:26Speaker 2: it's so cool. Is he somebody else like yourself who
- 10:29Speaker 2: loves Dion? I do who had that relationship on a
- 10:31Speaker 2: personal basis because he was so cool to me when
- 10:34Speaker 2: he didn't have to be.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It's just he is you.
- 10:37Speaker 4: He's just truly the one of the coolest guys you
- 10:40Speaker 4: can ever meet. And I'll just I'll never forget we
- 10:46Speaker 4: were going to the Pro Bowl practice one year, the
- 10:51Speaker 4: first year it was taken out of Hawaii and it
- 10:54Speaker 4: was put in South Florida. And so we're driving by
- 10:58Speaker 4: a baseball in Fort Lauderdale and on the way to
- 11:03Speaker 4: the practice, and he goes, I.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Think I've been here before. I got this feeling I've
- 11:07Speaker 1: been here before.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, Dionne, that that's where you were in
- 11:11Speaker 4: spring training with the Yankees. And you forget, Okay, you
- 11:17Speaker 4: just forget sometimes how much he's lived and how great
- 11:23Speaker 4: he's been at living elite right, and where he is
- 11:29Speaker 4: a guy who also hosted Saturday Night Live and had
- 11:33Speaker 4: a song must be the Money and could have been
- 11:37Speaker 4: the MVP of a World series and so on and
- 11:41Speaker 4: so on and so on. Easily the most famous guy
- 11:45Speaker 4: I've ever walked through an airport with, hands down, anybody,
- 11:51Speaker 4: regardless of race, color, cleeds, socio creed, socio economic status,
- 11:56Speaker 4: they all want a piece of him. And I'm you know,
- 12:01Speaker 4: I will always sing deons praises always.
- 12:03Speaker 2: About five years ago, I redesigned the radio studio to
- 12:06Speaker 2: be more visual. You know, I have cameras in the walls.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I mean I stole the set completely from yours. Before
- 12:11Speaker 2: I'd even ever sat in yours. My dream was to
- 12:14Speaker 2: always be and it shifted a bit without technology has been.
- 12:17Speaker 2: But I always wanted to do a late night talk
- 12:19Speaker 2: show because Letterman was my hero me too. Yeah, he
- 12:21Speaker 2: was like he looked he was irreverend, he was goofy.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I felt like, if that guy can do it, I
- 12:26Speaker 2: have a chance. Sure, And so when I flipped the
- 12:29Speaker 2: radio show into a multimedia show on vol intent's purposes, sure,
- 12:34Speaker 2: I would watch your watch you on social media and
- 12:37Speaker 2: I was just like, I mean, that's the set that
- 12:39Speaker 2: I'd like to have, So I'd like to say that
- 12:40Speaker 2: publicly I stole I stole that from it.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I'm I'm honored that you would say that or or
- 12:44Speaker 4: think it.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I'm the same way. You know, Letterman was is my guy.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I mean, like the the comedic axiom of make a joke,
- 12:59Speaker 4: repeat it, then beat it to death.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's David Letterman, and I love that. Do you ever
- 13:04Speaker 1: meet him?
- 13:05Speaker 4: I was on his show once, so that's the only
- 13:08Speaker 4: time I've met him. And trust me, I really wanted
- 13:11Speaker 4: to get on his show. I mean, of all the
- 13:13Speaker 4: of all shows, that's the one and the number of
- 13:16Speaker 4: times that I you know, attempted.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And had people, you.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Know, reach out was voluminous, and the one year he
- 13:28Speaker 4: accepted was twenty eleven because he was curious as to
- 13:35Speaker 4: because it was during the lockout of the NFL season
- 13:38Speaker 4: of twenty eleven, he was curious how I would host
- 13:42Speaker 4: a draft during a lockout. He was fascinated by that,
- 13:47Speaker 4: and so that's how I got on. And in my
- 13:51Speaker 4: green room there is the there's the Q cards from it.
- 13:55Speaker 4: I got the Q cards from his introduction of me.
- 13:59Speaker 4: So that's truly one one of my favorite pop culture
- 14:01Speaker 4: items that's hung in the green room of my shop.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And he's he's the best. He's the absolute best at it.
- 14:08Speaker 4: And so I always wanted to be, you know, either
- 14:13Speaker 4: a stand up comic or a late.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Night talk show host. Did you ever try comedy?
- 14:19Speaker 4: And I did try comedy. I tried comedy in stand up.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I did stand up in college, and so yeah, I
- 14:29Speaker 4: did stand up in college.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And that was.
- 14:33Speaker 4: The toughest thing I've ever had to do, ever had
- 14:36Speaker 4: to do, is stand up in college. And I loved
- 14:39Speaker 4: it to this point where if I don't get an
- 14:42Speaker 4: immediate feedback from those on the set, I think a
- 14:44Speaker 4: joke is flopped and I'm you know, like even that moment,
- 14:49Speaker 4: I'm looking around to see who's laughing. I'm I'm, I'm
- 14:51Speaker 4: I'm trained for that, and I always will tell anybody
- 14:56Speaker 4: on a set that I'm on go ahead and laugh.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I don't care if I hear it. You know, ruining
- 15:00Speaker 4: anything you don't have to like, it's not a library.
- 15:02Speaker 4: There should be some energy. Toughest thing I've ever had
- 15:06Speaker 4: to do, loved it, just didn't think I would be
- 15:09Speaker 4: cut out for that life. So getting an opportunity to
- 15:13Speaker 4: be a sportscaster on Sports Center, I kind of had
- 15:16Speaker 4: that stand up mentality, and then being able to do
- 15:22Speaker 4: the show that I'm doing right now turning ten years
- 15:25Speaker 4: old in October, is it's a blessing that I get
- 15:28Speaker 4: to bring sort of a talk show feel to sports talk,
- 15:32Speaker 4: you know, hybrid it up with a wrap it around
- 15:34Speaker 4: pop culture every single day. Three hours is a long time,
- 15:37Speaker 4: but that just means I have an opportunity to have
- 15:39Speaker 4: more guests.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like there's a slightly different version of
- 15:42Speaker 2: you in a timeline that's twenty five years into a
- 15:45Speaker 2: talk show, because you have all the sensibilities of any
- 15:47Speaker 2: of the greats. Thanks that that have done it, meaning
- 15:50Speaker 2: you're quick, you're funny, you're and I say this in
- 15:53Speaker 2: the way because I would get research back from these
- 15:55Speaker 2: networks and they would go, this is on me. So
- 15:57Speaker 2: they would go, you know, you've testedmen like you're just
- 16:02Speaker 2: good looking enough to where they like you, and you're
- 16:06Speaker 2: not so good looking that the guys don't like you.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I'd be right in that space where it didn't feel
- 16:13Speaker 2: good when they would say it, but they would hire
- 16:15Speaker 2: me for these shows because.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I was like, you're not threatening to anybody.
- 16:19Speaker 4: You're growling enough, but threatening, And I don't know how
- 16:23Speaker 4: I would test, you know, my my testing on that
- 16:27Speaker 4: front certainly when I was mostly single, when I was
- 16:31Speaker 4: on my Sports Center days and I'd go to a
- 16:35Speaker 4: bar and suddenly a drink would be placed in front
- 16:39Speaker 4: of me that I didn't order, and the bartender would say,
- 16:43Speaker 4: this has been you know, it's a drink be bought
- 16:46Speaker 4: for you, and I would look up and there would
- 16:50Speaker 4: be like three hot chicks and just the one fat
- 16:53Speaker 4: guy in between him just raising his glass at me,
- 16:55Speaker 4: like you're the man that was.
- 16:59Speaker 1: That is my point. That anecdote, right, there's exactly what
- 17:01Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, meaning.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You're super funny, but I think some of your funny
- 17:07Speaker 2: can be lost because you have to talk for so long.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I feel the same way about myself. I've got to
- 17:10Speaker 2: do four or five hours. Yeah, and when you have
- 17:12Speaker 2: to talk that long about things, the really funny things
- 17:15Speaker 2: can get lost because you're having to paint broad stroke.
- 17:18Speaker 4: You are not wrong, Bobby, And that's why the advent
- 17:22Speaker 4: of and the currency that figuratively not literally, because these
- 17:28Speaker 4: don't really make a lot of money actually revenue wise,
- 17:31Speaker 4: to go deep in the business of it. But the
- 17:33Speaker 4: reels on Instagram, the TikTok world, the shorts on YouTube,
- 17:39Speaker 4: that you can now pull those moments out of a
- 17:42Speaker 4: four hour conversation and spotlight it in ninety seconds. And
- 17:48Speaker 4: that is the way people consume your world as as
- 17:52Speaker 4: a mainstream.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Way of consuming.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Back when you know, we were kids, it'd be just like,
- 17:58Speaker 4: what do you mean you can just boil down a
- 18:01Speaker 4: three hour show to ninety fun seconds and people will
- 18:04Speaker 4: watch that?
- 18:05Speaker 1: And how will they watch it?
- 18:06Speaker 4: And how is that even remotely showing off the breadth
- 18:09Speaker 4: of your work. Now, that's the way it works. The
- 18:13Speaker 4: reels Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, shorts, Facebook, shorts. That's the way
- 18:18Speaker 4: a lot of people consume things. And in the past
- 18:20Speaker 4: they'd be like, yeah, but I had so much to
- 18:22Speaker 4: say in the other you know, two hours fifty eight minutes,
- 18:27Speaker 4: and I'm bad at math, you know, in thirty seconds,
- 18:29Speaker 4: like what about the other ones? But that's now you
- 18:33Speaker 4: can pull those moments out and say, Hey, if you
- 18:37Speaker 4: want to consume all three hours live, you can do that.
- 18:39Speaker 4: If you want to consume all three hours on demand
- 18:41Speaker 4: watching it and also listening to it, you've got that.
- 18:45Speaker 4: But now there's a way to take the best ninety
- 18:48Speaker 4: seconds to you know, one hundred and twenty seconds and
- 18:51Speaker 4: serve it up to you. And I get so many
- 18:52Speaker 4: people saying, man, love your show on TikTok, and I
- 18:56Speaker 4: don't distribute it live on TikTok, you know, but I'll
- 18:59Speaker 4: take you know. Certainly is as somebody who wouldn't be
- 19:03Speaker 4: associated with being viewable on TikTok, But that's the way
- 19:09Speaker 4: it is now.
- 19:14Speaker 1: It does feel weird.
- 19:15Speaker 2: But then there are shows that I only consume through TikTok,
- 19:18Speaker 2: Like there are podcasts sure that I really only watch
- 19:22Speaker 2: show on TikTok, and I don't even follow them. My
- 19:24Speaker 2: algorithm feeds them to me, but now I expect my
- 19:27Speaker 2: algorithm to feed them to me.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And if you ask me, do you listen to the
- 19:31Speaker 2: Jovon is an example? Do you listen to the Oovonne?
- 19:33Speaker 2: I know a lot about what he's doing because I
- 19:35Speaker 2: see all his clips on TikTok, and so it is
- 19:38Speaker 2: a different world where I think back to my point
- 19:41Speaker 2: of I think you're at times wildly funny. But it's
- 19:44Speaker 2: hard to find those nuggets if you're listening to a
- 19:46Speaker 2: large sample, because you've got to you got to land
- 19:48Speaker 2: all the planes, you've got guests, you've got to interview.
- 19:51Speaker 2: But these smaller clip versions allow a different part that
- 19:56Speaker 2: we want to be highlighted to actually be highlighted.
- 20:00Speaker 4: And I have no problem with it. It's it's it's
- 20:02Speaker 4: really it's a game changer. Where As there would be
- 20:05Speaker 4: a funny moment and a five minute inner you know
- 20:07Speaker 4: clip that we put out there, you know, it's just
- 20:10Speaker 4: not consumable for a lot of demographics, a lot of
- 20:14Speaker 4: age groups, and now you just boil it down to
- 20:17Speaker 4: ninety seconds, two minutes. It's it's a difference maker, certainly
- 20:21Speaker 4: when you're having when you got a talk show, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 4: because there are great moments and then there's also boy
- 20:27Speaker 4: that was great. How you can get in depth? You
- 20:29Speaker 4: got this answer? You got that answer? Well, there's a
- 20:31Speaker 4: podcast for that. There's a twenty minute version of that,
- 20:34Speaker 4: and there's a YouTube version of that. That's the twenty
- 20:37Speaker 4: first century we're in and I'm you know, trying to
- 20:41Speaker 4: figure it out while exploiting it at the same time.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Can you go out and not be recognized now in
- 20:46Speaker 2: la oh?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean yeah, even famous for so long I
- 20:50Speaker 1: have been, but I'm still an acquired taste Bobby, you know.
- 20:53Speaker 4: But it's fine. I'm not complaining about anything there, you know.
- 20:58Speaker 1: A perfect example. He was just yesterday at the Hall
- 21:03Speaker 1: of Fame.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Some dude stops me and says, rich Eisen, can we
- 21:09Speaker 4: take a picture?
- 21:10Speaker 1: And I'm like yeah, and he's like, love you man?
- 21:12Speaker 1: This that the other thing?
- 21:13Speaker 4: And he turns around as I'm leaving, and his wife says,
- 21:16Speaker 4: who's that?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Does it ever happen? Who's that? Like out loud? Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: And I.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Laughed, you know what I mean, Like, I'm just gonna
- 21:27Speaker 4: laugh and not turn around and say what do you like?
- 21:30Speaker 4: It's just there's different, you know, walks of life and
- 21:34Speaker 4: just trying to cross over as much as I possibly
- 21:37Speaker 4: can and get my material out there. But it kind
- 21:39Speaker 4: of just was funny because she knew when she said
- 21:43Speaker 4: that that I could hear that, and I almost turned
- 21:46Speaker 4: around and told him, like, you know, I can, I
- 21:49Speaker 4: can hear you ask who I am? You know clearly
- 21:52Speaker 4: enough for your husband to stop the conversation with you
- 21:56Speaker 4: on the spot to stop me take a photograph boy,
- 22:00Speaker 4: and have me walk away, but not out of like
- 22:03Speaker 4: or next time you don't know who your husband's stopping
- 22:05Speaker 4: and take a selfie with, can you wait wait till
- 22:07Speaker 4: you're that person's out of earshot before asking who that
- 22:11Speaker 4: person is?
- 22:12Speaker 1: You know? But hey, it's all good.
- 22:14Speaker 4: It's kind of you to, you know, ask that question,
- 22:17Speaker 4: and it's it's all good man. And I don't mind
- 22:20Speaker 4: stopping talking to people, you know.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It. It doesn't phaze me at all. It's great.
- 22:28Speaker 2: The weird one for me is if someone comes up
- 22:30Speaker 2: and they say hey, and I feel like people at
- 22:32Speaker 2: times aren't knowing what they're saying.
- 22:33Speaker 1: They're just trying to fill silent. Can I guess what
- 22:37Speaker 1: it is? I'm sure you can. YEA. Where are you from?
- 22:40Speaker 1: Where do I know you? That happens a lot too,
- 22:43Speaker 1: like like it's now my I like what am I good? Personal? Google?
- 22:47Speaker 1: Am I like your your AI assistant here?
- 22:50Speaker 2: That's not even the most cutting though that if that happens,
- 22:52Speaker 2: that's a nice one, okay, the one that cuts me
- 22:54Speaker 2: the most. I'll come up and go, hey, do you
- 22:56Speaker 2: mind if I get a picture? And I'm like, no, not
- 22:58Speaker 2: at all. They go, I don't even know who you
- 22:59Speaker 2: are is a huge fan or my aunt's. And I
- 23:01Speaker 2: think to myself, you don't have to say you.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Don't know who I am.
- 23:03Speaker 2: You can just say can I take a picture? And
- 23:06Speaker 2: then do then disperse with the picture however you'd like.
- 23:08Speaker 2: But they'll come up and go, hey, do you mind
- 23:09Speaker 2: if I get a picture?
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm of course not. Why would I care?
- 23:11Speaker 2: To be honest, I don't know who you are? But
- 23:13Speaker 2: you know my aunt.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Will love this.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm like, there's no I didn't feel like
- 23:16Speaker 2: there was a need to say you.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Didn't know who I was. I have no idea who
- 23:20Speaker 1: you are. Yeah, right.
- 23:21Speaker 4: My favorite moment was this happened with Stuart once Stuart Scott,
- 23:25Speaker 4: where somebody came up and these were the old days
- 23:27Speaker 4: where there were no camera phones. Okay, like the actual
- 23:30Speaker 4: funk an actual real camera.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I'm standing here with him.
- 23:36Speaker 4: He says, would you Somebody went up to Stewart and
- 23:38Speaker 4: said would you mind taking a picture? He goes, absolutely not,
- 23:41Speaker 4: and they handed him the camera to take a picture
- 23:44Speaker 4: of me with that person. And it was like, Stuart
- 23:49Speaker 4: thought I had put this person up to that, but
- 23:52Speaker 4: it was not at all.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And it was awesome.
- 23:55Speaker 4: That to the point where I would then in future
- 23:57Speaker 4: times ask people to do that to work, and then
- 24:01Speaker 4: he would ask people to do that to me like
- 24:03Speaker 4: so anytime, which is a problem because now we're being
- 24:06Speaker 4: skeptical of people asking what you mind if you took.
- 24:09Speaker 1: A picture, You've planted the seed of doubt at all times. Oh,
- 24:12Speaker 1: but it was great.
- 24:13Speaker 4: He handed the camera to Stewart and Stewart's like, oh, okay,
- 24:17Speaker 4: took the picture.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Oh my god, that was awesome.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Was that the All Star Game this year? Another one
- 24:24Speaker 2: is someone had recognized me from something and I was like,
- 24:28Speaker 2: take a picture of sure love, let's take a picture
- 24:30Speaker 2: someone else. Camp I goes, hey, can I get one?
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yeah? Sure, take one? Who are you again?
- 24:34Speaker 2: I just saw them taking a picture with you.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Got that?
- 24:38Speaker 4: And again, yeah, I'm like, here, I should have you
- 24:42Speaker 4: know what you and I should have folded up in
- 24:44Speaker 4: our wallets.
- 24:45Speaker 1: If you still have, you're way more famous than I am.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Like we should we should have like our resumes folded up,
- 24:51Speaker 4: Like here you go. I just put a code unfolded
- 24:54Speaker 4: and say, this is my resume, this is who I am.
- 24:56Speaker 2: One of those menus shot with COVID you put, you know,
- 24:59Speaker 2: you do the menu on your phone. I just keep
- 25:01Speaker 2: that on my pants in my back pocket.
- 25:02Speaker 4: We should have a QR code. Have them shoot the
- 25:05Speaker 4: QR code to find out who we are.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Here it is. They got a blue check mark and everything.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I like it.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Here's my QR code. You know, use my code name
- 25:13Speaker 4: of Rich. You'll get twenty dollars off your first purchase.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Whatever it is when you're famous and living in Connecticut.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Because I mean, that era for me was just in
- 25:27Speaker 2: music and sports in general. That era for me was
- 25:29Speaker 2: when I probably grew the most as a human being.
- 25:32Speaker 2: So all of you guys were wildly famous to me
- 25:34Speaker 2: because I watched every day, every night Sports Center ESPN.
- 25:38Speaker 2: But I would I have friends now that we're super famous.
- 25:40Speaker 2: In the nineties and early two thousands, in music, and
- 25:43Speaker 2: they would be touring all the time, and they would
- 25:44Speaker 2: not know how famous they were because there wasn't social media,
- 25:48Speaker 2: and so they would just be traveling until it was over,
- 25:52Speaker 2: or they could settle, or they would be in LA
- 25:54Speaker 2: or New York.
- 25:54Speaker 1: They really wouldn't know. Was it like that? Then?
- 25:56Speaker 4: Oh yeah, let me tell you something, Bobby, So I
- 26:00Speaker 4: did the mostly for my seven year Sports Center career.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I did mostly the two am Eastern Times Sports Center
- 26:11Speaker 4: that would be eleven o'clock Pacific and would be re
- 26:16Speaker 4: aired for hours the next morning throughout the next morning.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Like that would never happen now, right, Like they would
- 26:22Speaker 4: never air a show that's dated by hours, like they'll
- 26:26Speaker 4: be live.
- 26:27Speaker 1: That's the way it works now.
- 26:29Speaker 4: But back in that day, and then they moved up
- 26:31Speaker 4: the time slot from two am to one am. The
- 26:33Speaker 4: problem with that was is that the number of West
- 26:37Speaker 4: Coast events that weren't over by that time, we had
- 26:40Speaker 4: to rebasically redo the show a second time at two
- 26:43Speaker 4: am Eastern to update, and if they weren't somehow over
- 26:47Speaker 4: by the end of that show, we'd have to stay
- 26:49Speaker 4: later until the show until the game ended to put
- 26:53Speaker 4: it into the show of record that would get reaired
- 26:56Speaker 4: throughout the next day. So I'm living in central Connecticut
- 27:00Speaker 4: and coming to work at like five o'clock at night,
- 27:05Speaker 4: doing a show that aired at one am and then
- 27:08Speaker 4: two am, and then getting home at four am, and
- 27:10Speaker 4: then trying to get off the high of being on
- 27:13Speaker 4: live TV in time to go to sleep, and then
- 27:16Speaker 4: I would sleep throughout the most exposure I've had on
- 27:19Speaker 4: cable television in my entire career, from five am it
- 27:23Speaker 4: would start Eastern Time, all the way to one in
- 27:25Speaker 4: the afternoon. I still get people today, and I'm obviously
- 27:30Speaker 4: it blows me away when people come up to me with,
- 27:33Speaker 4: you know, with their kids next to them, saying that
- 27:36Speaker 4: I used to they used to watch me and Stuart
- 27:39Speaker 4: Scott mostly before they got on the school bus in
- 27:42Speaker 4: the morning because I was on at seven am, eight
- 27:45Speaker 4: am or six am non stop. So I would be
- 27:51Speaker 4: sleeping when I got the most exposure of my career,
- 27:55Speaker 4: and then I would wake up, I'd have lunch. I
- 27:58Speaker 4: don't know what the hell I was doing with my
- 27:59Speaker 4: life then, and then going to work and doing it again,
- 28:03Speaker 4: and I would have no idea who's watching it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Zero.
- 28:07Speaker 4: It was as if I was living on another I
- 28:09Speaker 4: was living on planet Bristol, no clue. And then I
- 28:12Speaker 4: would go to New York City and try and have
- 28:15Speaker 4: a social life, you know, whenever I had a day off.
- 28:18Speaker 4: It was also tough in that regard to I'd meet,
- 28:21Speaker 4: you know, somebody and immediately say to them, you know, hey,
- 28:28Speaker 4: do you want to have dinner sometime? And like two tuesdays,
- 28:32Speaker 4: you know, try try that, you know, you know, come
- 28:35Speaker 4: online for size, like, hey, what are you doing two
- 28:37Speaker 4: tuesdays from now?
- 28:39Speaker 1: What a weirdo? Right?
- 28:40Speaker 4: But that's you know, that's when my next day off
- 28:43Speaker 4: was f me. So like that that was my my
- 28:46Speaker 4: life in terms of not knowing who's listening, not knowing
- 28:49Speaker 4: who's out there, unable to get myself in some sort
- 28:53Speaker 4: of social mix, get some sort of thing going that
- 28:57Speaker 4: I could have a social life outside of work. I'm
- 28:59Speaker 4: not complaining, you know, but that was you asked me
- 29:02Speaker 4: what my life was like?
- 29:03Speaker 2: What did you tell though, for the first time that
- 29:05Speaker 2: it had had blown up?
- 29:07Speaker 1: I don't know. It really wasn't a moment it was
- 29:10Speaker 1: like TRL.
- 29:11Speaker 4: It might have It might have been like it an
- 29:12Speaker 4: Espi's you know, sp awards. When I finally they put
- 29:15Speaker 4: Stuart and I up you know, we replaced Dan Patrick
- 29:20Speaker 4: and Keith Oberman as the guys who did the pre
- 29:22Speaker 4: award pre sp Awards show from the balcony of Radio
- 29:26Speaker 4: City Music Hall. Dan and Keith always said that they
- 29:28Speaker 4: they were like the old man muppets Stadler and Waldorf
- 29:31Speaker 4: sitting up there in the balcony. And then Stuart and
- 29:33Speaker 4: I did it for a couple of years, and then
- 29:35Speaker 4: getting out and about and then you know, meeting some
- 29:39Speaker 4: celebrities who knew who we were like that, that was
- 29:42Speaker 4: kind of blowing me away. I just assumed I had
- 29:45Speaker 4: no idea who was watching at all. And now I
- 29:48Speaker 4: hear I am, you know, in twenty twenty four running
- 29:51Speaker 4: into people who now have children saying that when they
- 29:53Speaker 4: were kids, I would be the ones to either put
- 29:56Speaker 4: them to sleep if they were you know and teenage
- 30:00Speaker 4: years on the West Coast, or kids going to school
- 30:03Speaker 4: waking them up like that's that was my life in sports.
- 30:07Speaker 2: What became more romantic too as you got more involved,
- 30:09Speaker 2: and what became less meaning I still love the Cubs,
- 30:15Speaker 2: but I went we worked up with the Cardinals. Yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 2: and I didn't hate the Cardinals. Where me before I
- 30:20Speaker 2: got or music right, like I can also see kind
- 30:22Speaker 2: of the gross things about music, but I can also
- 30:23Speaker 2: see now when somebody's really good, like it's even that
- 30:26Speaker 2: much cooler to me, Like what wasn't as cool about
- 30:30Speaker 2: sports and what became even cooler.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I'll be honest with the Bobby, I'm just not jaded
- 30:34Speaker 4: the fact that you know, again, like you were there
- 30:37Speaker 4: working with my guys at the show, right, you worked
- 30:40Speaker 4: with the team there. Sometimes we're sitting there hour before
- 30:43Speaker 4: a show just talking about any old stupid shit, you know,
- 30:46Speaker 4: and like talking about this movie, that thing, this thing,
- 30:49Speaker 4: and then we're like, you know what, let's do a
- 30:50Speaker 4: segment about that movie or this thing or in relation
- 30:53Speaker 4: to whatever. And then you know, a couple times I'll
- 30:55Speaker 4: just sit around and I'll say to everybody, like, can
- 30:57Speaker 4: you believe this is what we do? Honestly, Like, I'm
- 31:01Speaker 4: not jaded about it. You know, there's things about the
- 31:04Speaker 4: sports business that you know will make you sick or
- 31:07Speaker 4: your stomach or you know this about somebody or know
- 31:10Speaker 4: that about somebody. But that's just anything with any business.
- 31:13Speaker 4: But uh, truly, it's the toy department of life being
- 31:17Speaker 4: able to talk sports, and I just, you know, I
- 31:20Speaker 4: hope that's the way it will always be.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Do you ever want to not fly too close to
- 31:24Speaker 2: the sun with your favorite teams?
- 31:27Speaker 1: Meaning? What what do you mean?
- 31:29Speaker 2: My example now is I have purposefully not pursued a
- 31:33Speaker 2: relationship with John caliparid Arkansas. I am diehard razorback fan
- 31:37Speaker 2: in every way. I'm afraid if I don't like somebody,
- 31:39Speaker 2: it's going to affect how hard I root for that team. Yeah,
- 31:42Speaker 2: so everyone says, by all accounts, he's awesome. I don't
- 31:46Speaker 2: want to not like any part of that because then
- 31:49Speaker 2: it takes away like what I love to do most,
- 31:51Speaker 2: which is root for Arkansas sports.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Well, let's put it this way, Bobby, you should reach out.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You'll be good.
- 31:57Speaker 2: But I'm asked he's gonna be fine, but would like
- 31:59Speaker 2: to and like.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Listen, uh, you know, in terms of flying too close
- 32:06Speaker 4: like this, this this particular year with the Jets, is
- 32:09Speaker 4: I'm backing off for sure, because at this point in time,
- 32:13Speaker 4: I'm slated to call a Week five game with them
- 32:16Speaker 4: in London. And the last thing I want to do
- 32:19Speaker 4: is that anybody think that I'm being biased against the
- 32:23Speaker 4: Vikings who they're playing against at all. And and and
- 32:27Speaker 4: but if anybody who knows me for real, and I'm
- 32:29Speaker 4: I'm not shitting you here at all. If they know
- 32:33Speaker 4: me for real that I if I'm calling a game,
- 32:37Speaker 4: I would not care who wins at all. I just
- 32:40Speaker 4: want it to be a close game.
- 32:41Speaker 2: But if you don't, and I'm not saying any of
- 32:44Speaker 2: the coaches, but over your history of being a Jets fan,
- 32:46Speaker 2: if you don't like, if you really don't.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Like, you're still ruin the rooting interest.
- 32:50Speaker 4: So yeah, I guess if you keep your distance, that
- 32:52Speaker 4: makes complete sense that you don't want it ruined, you know,
- 32:56Speaker 4: in that regard. But after a while also, you know, listen,
- 32:59Speaker 4: the only teams, truly, the only teams that affect my
- 33:02Speaker 4: emotional output. And this is for real where I will
- 33:06Speaker 4: just say why am I happier today?
- 33:08Speaker 1: Oh that's right, they won? Or why am I less
- 33:10Speaker 1: happy today? Oh? They lost?
- 33:11Speaker 4: And I should be a better human being, you know,
- 33:14Speaker 4: to myself and everyone around me. Are are the Michigan
- 33:18Speaker 4: Wolverine football team and the New York Yankees.
- 33:21Speaker 1: That's it. That's the list. If the Jets.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Lose, you know, it'll be like, well that's a bummer,
- 33:26Speaker 4: but you know, okay, but those are truly the only
- 33:30Speaker 4: two teams that affect my emotions?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Did you ever meet Connor Stallion's I did not.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I did not mean you like, Oh no, I just
- 33:36Speaker 4: but but man, he gave me some great seats ones.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Have. You don't want to meet him? Would I want
- 33:43Speaker 1: to meet him?
- 33:43Speaker 2: I would want to meet him if you why if
- 33:45Speaker 2: he was doing he had a manifesto where nobody got
- 33:48Speaker 2: hurt or died or anything.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I understand that for but he was so he'd be
- 33:54Speaker 4: my hero. He was so piss poor at it that
- 33:56Speaker 4: you know they've that's true. You know if I met him,
- 33:59Speaker 4: i'd say, why were you? That's sloppy, man, I don't know.
- 34:02Speaker 4: Just let me just say this to you. Okay, you're
- 34:04Speaker 4: referring to the guy who gave out tickets to people
- 34:06Speaker 4: so they could sit in a geographically advantageous spots to
- 34:12Speaker 4: record the opposition sidelines of teams that Michigan was going
- 34:15Speaker 4: to play against the rules of NCAA scouting.
- 34:19Speaker 1: So I'll just repeat again, I'm sorry.
- 34:22Speaker 2: If my hero, though, if I were you, I would
- 34:25Speaker 2: love the guy. No, I'm sure he did it right
- 34:26Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 34:27Speaker 4: No, but no, no, no, no, because I don't think
- 34:29Speaker 4: he did it right.
- 34:31Speaker 1: You know what I mean. Let me ask you this question.
- 34:34Speaker 4: How many times have you been on vacation with your
- 34:37Speaker 4: lovely wife or anybody else and you hand them somebody
- 34:41Speaker 4: of phone saying would you mind taking a picture?
- 34:44Speaker 1: Have you done that before? Okay?
- 34:45Speaker 4: How many times do you get the phone back and
- 34:47Speaker 4: the photograph is more of the sky than of you?
- 34:49Speaker 1: It's terrible. Oka.
- 34:51Speaker 4: So Connor Stallions is giving tickets to a bunch of
- 34:54Speaker 4: people to say, shoot video for me. How often do
- 34:58Speaker 4: you think the video came back on unusable?
- 35:01Speaker 1: Like most of the time. Okay.
- 35:02Speaker 4: So it's what I'm saying is like everybody thinks that
- 35:04Speaker 4: this thing was run to perfection. Okay, the scenes, I
- 35:07Speaker 4: don't think that, and the videos the videos were I'm
- 35:10Speaker 4: not even.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Talking about the allegations.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I'm talking about he loved him like you did.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I gave his whole he wrote it. But I would
- 35:16Speaker 1: never cheat on behalf of my team.
- 35:18Speaker 2: I'm not even talking about that.
- 35:19Speaker 1: You're awfully sensitive.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I'm just talking about you generally, Like this guy was awesome.
- 35:24Speaker 2: If there was anybody that would put his heart and
- 35:26Speaker 2: soul into Arkansas like that, I low key would be like,
- 35:30Speaker 2: keep your head up, buddy.
- 35:31Speaker 1: No man, let's go.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I would choose a different adjective for him than awesome.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I would say, I would say publicly privately, I'll tell
- 35:39Speaker 4: it to you privately.
- 35:40Speaker 1: But you never met up. See. I would have him,
- 35:41Speaker 1: would be my dude, Absolutely not. I want I would
- 35:43Speaker 1: do him. I would do that. I would like him
- 35:45Speaker 1: to leave the scene and never to return.
- 35:47Speaker 2: What about the documentary coming out?
- 35:48Speaker 1: I don't want to see it. Man. I think I
- 35:51Speaker 1: like him more than you do. Yeah, I know, tell him,
- 35:55Speaker 1: tell him I said to fuck off? Is it wrong
- 36:00Speaker 1: to say no? Not at all? Were you in Harbaugh close? Cool?
- 36:04Speaker 1: I love him.
- 36:05Speaker 4: He's my first quarterback when I was a freshman. He
- 36:07Speaker 4: was a senior, So he was my first Michigan quarterback ever.
- 36:12Speaker 4: He was just part of my latest charity run for
- 36:14Speaker 4: Saint Jude, which you know about that charity very well.
- 36:18Speaker 4: And and and.
- 36:20Speaker 1: So he's just I love him.
- 36:23Speaker 4: And everybody's like wondering, you know, you upset that he
- 36:26Speaker 4: left Michigan to go to the Chargers. And my answer
- 36:29Speaker 4: to that, and I'll repeat it here again, is there's
- 36:31Speaker 4: a man made lake outside of Sofi Stadium. I think
- 36:34Speaker 4: he walked on it to sign his contract. I do
- 36:36Speaker 4: not care. He hung the banner, he left. He gave
- 36:39Speaker 4: me one of the greatest years of my life, not
- 36:42Speaker 4: just sports, it was my life.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And so good luck to him. We're gonna see him Wednesday.
- 36:49Speaker 1: We're gonna go. Are you really had?
- 36:51Speaker 2: The Chargers invited us to come out cool, so you're
- 36:53Speaker 2: going to be. We're gonna We're gonna be there flying
- 36:56Speaker 2: in Wednesday afternoon with them. And I have to go
- 36:59Speaker 2: speak on Thursday in San Diego. But they were like,
- 37:02Speaker 2: come out, So we're gonna go.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Because you know, my show studio is two minutes away
- 37:08Speaker 4: from their facility, literally a left and the right.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I've been to your show studio. I didn't.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I didn't know where they just they just opened it
- 37:15Speaker 4: a month ago. So that's true.
- 37:18Speaker 1: If you've got time, come back.
- 37:20Speaker 2: You'll you'll be I don't know. I would like to
- 37:23Speaker 2: see the guy. My wife was like, oh, you're going
- 37:25Speaker 2: to see Rich again?
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yeah? Today, And I was like no, no, no, no.
- 37:29Speaker 2: When you were coming to the house, I was like,
- 37:31Speaker 2: how long's it beench you've seen Rich And I was
- 37:32Speaker 2: like never, Yeah, we've never met. She goes, wait, what
- 37:35Speaker 2: I said, I've spoke to him on the poked him
- 37:36Speaker 2: on the phone. Did you call me very graciously before
- 37:39Speaker 2: I went and or I precovered for you? And then
- 37:43Speaker 2: we've spoken on zoom. But any time that I would
- 37:47Speaker 2: be there or when I did your show, you weren't there.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I know. That's that's the point. That's the point. And
- 37:52Speaker 1: I was like, I've never met him. Second were sitting
- 37:53Speaker 1: in that I have to be out for you to
- 37:55Speaker 1: sit in? Yes, but I love you.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Your guys were so freaking warm, and you told me
- 37:59Speaker 2: and we we have a text Stedd.
- 38:00Speaker 1: We just talk about you the whole time. It's just
- 38:02Speaker 1: me and all the guys. I don't know if I
- 38:04Speaker 1: want to see that, but.
- 38:06Speaker 2: They were super nice, like, oh cool and accommodating and warm.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Your studio is massive, it's fun. It's like a it's
- 38:13Speaker 2: a rent on that plate. It's filled with.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Stuff in there that is under the category from my
- 38:20Speaker 4: wife of you know where that would look better? Yeah,
- 38:24Speaker 4: you know, And I'm like, where like your studio?
- 38:26Speaker 1: Oh got it? I have again.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I just walked through your finally beautifully appointed house to
- 38:32Speaker 4: come here, and I thought the question I always ask
- 38:36Speaker 4: a bunch of guys is how much of the stuff
- 38:39Speaker 4: in the house is what you brought to the relationship zero. Well,
- 38:44Speaker 4: I saw some guitars on the wall, so.
- 38:48Speaker 1: So those were in for a while. They weren't making
- 38:50Speaker 1: the cut.
- 38:51Speaker 2: But there's a it's a little sliver where there's like
- 38:53Speaker 2: a what's that game call where you slide it?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Oh the oh yeah, the get sure, the with the
- 38:57Speaker 1: sawdust on? Yeah, okay, whatever that we have one of
- 38:59Speaker 1: they I saw that, and that's your contribution. It is not.
- 39:03Speaker 2: But what she what she has done which makes it cool,
- 39:05Speaker 2: is I have a collectic guitars in a long time,
- 39:07Speaker 2: but I used to, but now I'll have I have
- 39:10Speaker 2: some old ones from artists like Kenny Rodgers or who
- 39:15Speaker 2: have like signed guitars. Garth Brooks gave me, like his
- 39:17Speaker 2: guitar he played one one night or one day. But
- 39:20Speaker 2: now what my wife has done, she's like, well, you
- 39:22Speaker 2: have all these guitars. We don't want to pay for
- 39:24Speaker 2: a storage unit. So now we put empty ones up
- 39:26Speaker 2: and some of our friends will come to the house
- 39:28Speaker 2: and we'll have an evening and she'll have them signed
- 39:30Speaker 2: guitars and hang them up.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I know, like she elevates it. Well, what she.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Does is she takes your stuff and turns it from
- 39:38Speaker 4: the This is what this is what a great stylish
- 39:43Speaker 4: would do is to take your shit and turn it
- 39:46Speaker 4: from shit into a piece.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Pola states heard you know what I'm saying. My Grandma's
- 39:49Speaker 2: that could not be done. It's now a piece, you
- 39:52Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, that's now a piece on
- 39:54Speaker 2: the wall. It's not your ship on the wall, it's
- 39:57Speaker 2: your it's a piece that's on the wall. So kudos
- 40:01Speaker 2: to you and your stylish wife and your relationship.
- 40:06Speaker 1: I have in my house.
- 40:09Speaker 4: You know, I have an office, so there's stuff that's
- 40:11Speaker 4: in there, and there's stuff that once I put in
- 40:15Speaker 4: the office, it's like, why isn't that on your set?
- 40:18Speaker 4: I'll get that question, which is a hint to take
- 40:23Speaker 4: it again. I've been you know, I've been happily married
- 40:25Speaker 4: for twenty one years now and then and then there
- 40:30Speaker 4: is one chair in my house that I brought to
- 40:34Speaker 4: the relationship one but I bought it with her mom
- 40:39Speaker 4: years ago. So it's kind of got like an asterisk
- 40:42Speaker 4: kind of hybrid. But it's my chair. It's what it
- 40:45Speaker 4: used to be in my apartment and it's still there.
- 40:48Speaker 2: How does the relationship work with both of you being
- 40:52Speaker 2: in mostly the same industry.
- 40:54Speaker 1: It's great.
- 40:54Speaker 4: I mean, we have a production company together. She is
- 40:59Speaker 4: the most collaborative and idea filled uh confidant, and she
- 41:10Speaker 4: also fills in so she got her own best mom
- 41:13Speaker 4: ever signed because I have my best dad ever signed
- 41:16Speaker 4: on my desk. And and she just brings a totally
- 41:20Speaker 4: different part of the equation. I kind of dig that that,
- 41:23Speaker 4: you know, that my when I'm not in the chair,
- 41:25Speaker 4: she is and there's still you know, a family sense there,
- 41:31Speaker 4: you know. And then sometimes she'll give opinions that I'm
- 41:34Speaker 4: not terribly into, but she, you know, she understands that
- 41:39Speaker 4: she isn't bad a thousand you know, I shouldn't say
- 41:41Speaker 4: that stuff.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Can we cut this part out? Just kidding?
- 41:44Speaker 2: A couple weeks ago, her and her partner on What's
- 41:48Speaker 2: the Football? Yeah, I listened to your show almost every day,
- 41:50Speaker 2: Thanks Palm. So I appreciate that. Yeah, that's a great show.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 41:56Speaker 4: So is that under your network? It is under a
- 41:58Speaker 4: podcast network. They're having a year two come out starting
- 42:01Speaker 4: in September, And I you know, Amy Trask is a legend.
- 42:05Speaker 4: I mean, she has Hall of Fame credentials from her
- 42:07Speaker 4: time with the Raiders, figuratively and quite literally, I think
- 42:11Speaker 4: she should be in the Hall of Fame. And she
- 42:13Speaker 4: and Susie when we've been out to dinner with husbands
- 42:16Speaker 4: and friends and hit it off, and I think we're
- 42:20Speaker 4: going to actually legitimately add red Wine to the equation
- 42:23Speaker 4: this fall, because the two of them are better when
- 42:25Speaker 4: they've got a glass in their hand and just chop
- 42:28Speaker 4: it up. And that's the idea, you know, is to
- 42:30Speaker 4: have you know, content that is of interest and and
- 42:35Speaker 4: that you can't get anywhere else.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Obviously, that's that's the way to go.
- 42:38Speaker 4: But Susie's filled with ideas and filled with energy and
- 42:43Speaker 4: filled with with with just her own sensibility. Like she
- 42:48Speaker 4: did a power ranking the other day of her power
- 42:50Speaker 4: rankings of pet peeves, three of which I could identify, uh,
- 42:55Speaker 4: emanating from my behavior.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Heavily influenced by Yeah.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Especially the leaving clothes in front of the hamper not
- 43:03Speaker 4: in them, Like that one.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Really hit home.
- 43:06Speaker 4: But that's I kind of dig putting that out there,
- 43:08Speaker 4: you know, like that's that's life, that's relatable, that's what
- 43:11Speaker 4: people do and and healthy relationships can survive.
- 43:21Speaker 2: What is your power ranking of favorite musical artists of
- 43:24Speaker 2: all time?
- 43:25Speaker 1: To you?
- 43:26Speaker 2: Oh God give me, give me five, give me go
- 43:28Speaker 2: one through five.
- 43:29Speaker 1: It be hard to do it backward, okay. One, m.
- 43:36Speaker 4: It's a toss up. One is a toss up between uh.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Because I listened to these guys since I was a kid. Billy,
- 43:43Speaker 4: Joel and Elton John would be one and two depends
- 43:48Speaker 4: on a day. Coldplay three you got to put the
- 43:55Speaker 4: Beatles on that list, And I know I'm dating myself,
- 43:58Speaker 4: but I am who I am.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Bobby Bones five. I love the Killers.
- 44:07Speaker 4: I love the Killers, and obviously Michigan adopting mister Brightside
- 44:10Speaker 4: is another aspect of that. John Mayer, John Legend could
- 44:16Speaker 4: make this list. So yeah, that's my power rankings.
- 44:20Speaker 1: LASTKA concert you've been to?
- 44:22Speaker 4: Oh, I was at Bruce Springsteen again, being from Staten Island,
- 44:27Speaker 4: I'm I guess I should have put Bruce on the list.
- 44:30Speaker 4: But my wife's a bigger Bruce fan than I am.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Her brother is just a Bruce nut. So there was that.
- 44:38Speaker 1: In the uh in the forum.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Coldplay at the Rose Bowl.
- 44:47Speaker 2: I like Emo coleplay way more than Anthemic coleplay.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I love Coldplay, sure.
- 44:53Speaker 2: I like the sad, slow stuff more than the get
- 44:56Speaker 2: in all the synth.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I got it, I understand it.
- 44:59Speaker 4: But in in terms of just a a big stadium band,
- 45:01Speaker 4: I mean, Chris Martin just attaches himself to your heartbeat.
- 45:05Speaker 4: It's I've never seen anything like it. I did see
- 45:08Speaker 4: you two in the sphere. Holy shit, that's the sphere
- 45:13Speaker 4: I've never seen.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen clips.
- 45:14Speaker 4: I mean, it truly is one of those things that
- 45:18Speaker 4: you cannot believe until you see it. I mean when
- 45:21Speaker 4: you walk into the sphere and for the first time
- 45:25Speaker 4: and I saw on the wall these cinder blocks, these large,
- 45:31Speaker 4: huge cinder blocks, and I thought to myself, with these
- 45:34Speaker 4: two dots, each one of these monster sort of cinder blocks,
- 45:38Speaker 4: one on top of the other, all the way up
- 45:41Speaker 4: to the ceiling, to the roof, and at one point
- 45:44Speaker 4: in the roof you would see these helicopters flying overhead.
- 45:47Speaker 4: And it gave you an idea, Oh, okay, certainly the
- 45:50Speaker 4: hole in the sphere, there's no hole in the sphere,
- 45:52Speaker 4: and that's not seeing through that that is part of
- 45:55Speaker 4: the visual illusion. But had and I thought that the
- 46:00Speaker 4: cinder blocks are made of something that you can cast
- 46:04Speaker 4: these visuals on. Until the concert started and the cinder
- 46:09Speaker 4: blocks separated and bright light was shining through it, and
- 46:14Speaker 4: I realized that the light was an image, and so
- 46:18Speaker 4: are the cinder blocks. This entire time, I was sitting
- 46:20Speaker 4: there in the hour before the concert, and my mind
- 46:23Speaker 4: was blown. And not only can they put anything on there,
- 46:27Speaker 4: they can also change the depth perception. At one point
- 46:30Speaker 4: it felt like the ceiling was collapsing on you and all.
- 46:33Speaker 4: I kept thinking to myself whenever I watch anybody with
- 46:35Speaker 4: Dead and Company, that if the drugs are bad, you
- 46:37Speaker 4: were going to have a long ass night, man, Like
- 46:40Speaker 4: that is really a wild place to see.
- 46:45Speaker 1: You could see anything in there. They had the NHL
- 46:47Speaker 1: draft in there recently that looked amazing. I can't you know.
- 46:53Speaker 4: And this is how great this fear is, and that
- 46:56Speaker 4: I would recommend anybody go to it, even though it's
- 47:01Speaker 4: owned by the owner of the Knicks, James Dolan, who
- 47:03Speaker 4: I otherwise have nothing but the greatest of contempt for.
- 47:07Speaker 4: And I would say, fill his money with fill his
- 47:09Speaker 4: pocket with your money. Do you wish that's how good
- 47:11Speaker 4: the sphere? You wish you would sell the team? Oh
- 47:13Speaker 4: my god, have you wished that for?
- 47:14Speaker 2: Well?
- 47:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 47:14Speaker 4: I mean the last couple of years things have turned.
- 47:16Speaker 4: So I'll accept the currents.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Like, do you give the you give him Jalen Brunton credit.
- 47:21Speaker 4: No, I give him credit for hiring the guy who
- 47:23Speaker 4: got Jalen Brunson. Listen, when he threw Charles Oakley and
- 47:27Speaker 4: or Charles Oakley got thrown in jail and uh left overnight.
- 47:31Speaker 1: That that tour it for me. Do you think Bill
- 47:34Speaker 1: Parcells should be in the Hall of Fame? He is
- 47:36Speaker 1: in the whole Fame.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Do you think he should be in the Whole of Fame?
- 47:37Speaker 2: I do think he should be there. Yeah, yeah, I
- 47:39Speaker 2: know he's amp, But do you think he should be?
- 47:40Speaker 1: Yes? I do? Okay, what about Robert Kraft?
- 47:42Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, I asked that because of the controversies. Sure,
- 47:47Speaker 2: the documentary that just came out.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Yeah, but I mean, listen, as much as you might
- 47:52Speaker 4: feel about deflate Gate and Spygate, you know, personally, I
- 47:57Speaker 4: think Spygate's worse than the flake gate. Don't forget about
- 48:00Speaker 4: the flake gate. That the ball that was confiscated and
- 48:06Speaker 4: sent to the NFL and that sparked the controversy was
- 48:11Speaker 4: an intercepted football. So if it was supposed to help,
- 48:15Speaker 4: why would Brady throw an interception with it? So I'm
- 48:17Speaker 4: saying like it's it's not cookie cutter where one size
- 48:21Speaker 4: fits all. All right, So there's that, But you still,
- 48:27Speaker 4: despite the spygate and despite the Deflake Gate, you cannot
- 48:31Speaker 4: deny the greatness of what they did for all those
- 48:34Speaker 4: years and deny and think that's that was what made
- 48:38Speaker 4: Belichick and Brady and the rest of that roster as
- 48:40Speaker 4: great as possible and the organization as sterling as it's
- 48:44Speaker 4: been otherwise.
- 48:45Speaker 1: So I mean, Robert Craft is at the head of that.
- 48:47Speaker 1: So for the record, I agree.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Plus he was also very instrumental in the advent of
- 48:53Speaker 4: NFL Network as well as bridging the gap in the lockout,
- 48:59Speaker 4: so I think he.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Deserves credit for that too. Eli Manning, I think he's
- 49:04Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame. He should be. That's next year.
- 49:05Speaker 1: You can now be yeah, he's now next guy. He's
- 49:08Speaker 1: first time eligible next year, and I think you should go,
- 49:11Speaker 1: what about a guy like Jared Allen.
- 49:14Speaker 4: He's he's out there for sure in terms of sacks
- 49:17Speaker 4: and in terms of what he did when he was there.
- 49:20Speaker 4: And I think if you put folks like Patrick Willis in,
- 49:24Speaker 4: and you put folks who had a terrific run in
- 49:29Speaker 4: a career, that didn't you know, wasn't ring heavy and
- 49:32Speaker 4: wasn't you know, for the exception of three years of
- 49:34Speaker 4: for Patrick Willis, eight years, wasn't all that great that
- 49:39Speaker 4: It's just that unfortunately it's only seven guys can get
- 49:42Speaker 4: in a year, and there's fifty three guys on a roster.
- 49:47Speaker 4: There will always be guys waiting, always be guys waiting.
- 49:50Speaker 2: I made a list of the people, but because Eli
- 49:52Speaker 2: was one, but Jared Allen's always been one to me
- 49:54Speaker 2: that I thought, Man, he's such right on that line.
- 49:56Speaker 1: I think so too.
- 49:57Speaker 2: And if it hadn't been for the Vikings actually being
- 49:59Speaker 2: the Vikings, if he'd have been on a different team,
- 50:01Speaker 2: possibly he'd be easier. So here are some of the
- 50:04Speaker 2: guys that are up next year. Yeah, Luke Keiley, Yes,
- 50:10Speaker 2: he was so freaking good. Yea, he was so good.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It will be. I don't know if he's the first ballot,
- 50:16Speaker 1: but he will be. Earl Thomas.
- 50:19Speaker 4: I don't know about that. I don't know if Earl's
- 50:22Speaker 4: gonna make it. Marshaan, I think so. But running backs
- 50:26Speaker 4: a real tough one because Frank Gore is going to
- 50:28Speaker 4: be up soon.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Too, and so you know, do you think it helps
- 50:31Speaker 2: Marshaw on his personality since he's out of the league,
- 50:35Speaker 2: can not afford.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Sure, of course it can because these are human beings
- 50:37Speaker 4: that vote, and there you know you might. But Marshawn again,
- 50:42Speaker 4: I think Frank Gore has I shouldn't speak these things
- 50:45Speaker 4: without an Internet in front of me, But I think
- 50:47Speaker 4: Frank has better statistics, more longevity. But Marshawn has moments
- 50:53Speaker 4: that that pop out more than Frank Gore.
- 50:57Speaker 1: For sure.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Vinitarry right, oh like easily doubt he might be a
- 51:00Speaker 2: first ballot.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Clay Matthews, I don't think, so stay for sure. At
- 51:07Speaker 1: some point I think he'll get in.
- 51:08Speaker 4: But you also again, don't forget you guys got like
- 51:10Speaker 4: Tory Holt should be a Hall of Famer, he's not in.
- 51:13Speaker 4: I think Jim Plunkett should be a Hall of Famer,
- 51:14Speaker 4: but Jim's from a different category that there are veterans
- 51:18Speaker 4: committees that will put people in. So again, when you're
- 51:21Speaker 4: a receiver, when you're a defensive lineman, running back, quarterback,
- 51:26Speaker 4: those are guys that you have the longest line I think,
- 51:31Speaker 4: and tackles guards, defensive tackles, pardon me. Linebackers usually have
- 51:39Speaker 4: to wait the longest corners, because if you're not first ballot,
- 51:43Speaker 4: you're going to be on that line waiting to jump
- 51:46Speaker 4: past any of the skilled so called skilled position players.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Three final things I want to talk about. Sure, Dak,
- 51:53Speaker 2: what's happening?
- 51:53Speaker 4: Great question. He's got all the cards, he's got all
- 51:56Speaker 4: the leverage. As of this conversation. He is unsigned past
- 52:00Speaker 4: this year. He cannot be franchise tagged, and he cannot
- 52:03Speaker 4: be traded. So he's the Dallas Cowboys quarterback this year,
- 52:08Speaker 4: and he's going to make a killing. He's going to
- 52:12Speaker 4: make an absolute killing. Depending on whether he gets it
- 52:14Speaker 4: from Dallas now or he gets bestowed a free agent
- 52:18Speaker 4: contract from somebody that's willing to give him sixty million
- 52:20Speaker 4: a year, he's going to get it.
- 52:21Speaker 2: None of those guys have quite hit sixty yet, right,
- 52:23Speaker 2: but Jordan Love two fifty five.
- 52:25Speaker 4: We're currently at fifty five. And if Dak goes this year,
- 52:29Speaker 4: I think that may be the push pull. Like he's
- 52:32Speaker 4: probably saying, I want something for start to a six.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Dallas may be responding, listen, we've got to pay CD,
- 52:38Speaker 4: we've got to pay Micah.
- 52:39Speaker 1: We need you to take less.
- 52:41Speaker 4: And what about that period you know that range of
- 52:44Speaker 4: money between fifty five and sixty. Can we find a
- 52:46Speaker 4: sweet spot there? I'm guessing that might be the push
- 52:50Speaker 4: pull right now. But if it's not Dak getting sixty,
- 52:53Speaker 4: it'll be pretty next year.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Really, hellya, absolutely? Yeah.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence got fifty five, Tua got fifty three point one,
- 53:05Speaker 4: Jordan Love got fifty five. Rock Perdy has If you
- 53:08Speaker 4: add up Jordan Love's, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, and Tua's
- 53:14Speaker 4: career playoff wins, Perty has more, and he probably will
- 53:19Speaker 4: even separate himself even more in terms of playoff wins
- 53:22Speaker 4: and certainly potentially Super Bowl appearances, if not wins in
- 53:26Speaker 4: that category.
- 53:26Speaker 2: We'll want the narrative to be what it's always been
- 53:28Speaker 2: with Perty. We'll look at him. He's got Debo, he's
- 53:31Speaker 2: got McCaffrey, he's got Brandon I, and we really need
- 53:35Speaker 2: to pay him sixty million dollars. And I'm not saying
- 53:38Speaker 2: that this the narrative is correct, but obviously when you're
- 53:40Speaker 2: the last person picked.
- 53:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the reason why correct. Don't forget Brady probably
- 53:44Speaker 1: had that for the first couple of years of his
- 53:46Speaker 1: career too. He's on a super team. It was Bill
- 53:49Speaker 1: not Brady, But Brady, they won a super Bowl, he
- 53:53Speaker 1: won three, he won three out of four.
- 53:55Speaker 4: I understand. We'll see what Purty does. But I think
- 53:57Speaker 4: he's going to get that money.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:00Speaker 2: If he's the first sixty million guy, a lot of
- 54:01Speaker 2: people I would love it.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I think it.
- 54:05Speaker 2: You know the fact that Trey Lance wasn't the guy
- 54:07Speaker 2: that came out of that and party.
- 54:09Speaker 4: Was Oh yeah, I mean on behalf of guys who
- 54:11Speaker 4: looked like they're still in high school. I think he
- 54:13Speaker 4: with you. I think he would represent people like you
- 54:16Speaker 4: very well.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Uh.
- 54:17Speaker 2: The second thing I want to mention, you know what
- 54:19Speaker 2: I shouldn't brought him Conors Stallions.
- 54:20Speaker 1: I apologize. Don't worry about. No, No, I don't worry. I
- 54:22Speaker 1: would have loved to have one of those guys well
- 54:25Speaker 1: on behalf.
- 54:25Speaker 2: I think I would have been that guy on behalf.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Of Michigan fans everywhere.
- 54:29Speaker 4: You don't want to Connor Stallions in Arkansas just just
- 54:32Speaker 4: Pig Suey without him.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Brother, you know Cal, if you met Cal, I have
- 54:35Speaker 1: met him. Yeah, I think you'd love him.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Don't worry about I signed up for a fantasy camp. Okay,
- 54:40Speaker 2: and like five weeks thirty and up with cal And
- 54:45Speaker 2: there's like forty adult men that go play basketball for two.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Days and I don't know, I'm gonna probably tear every.
- 54:49Speaker 2: You're gonna love him, yeah, but I'm gonna go play.
- 54:51Speaker 1: You'll love him. I don't even play basketball.
- 54:53Speaker 4: Oh okay, Well then then you know we'll find out
- 54:58Speaker 4: how many minutes he gives you.
- 54:58Speaker 1: But I will, but I will go hard. The greatest
- 55:00Speaker 1: sports achievement for me personally, Yeah, for you.
- 55:03Speaker 2: You mean that I've not watched your highlight of your
- 55:07Speaker 2: sports life.
- 55:08Speaker 4: Meaning that you've played that I've actually conducted that you
- 55:12Speaker 4: have breaking six seconds in my.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Forty yard dish? Are you kidding me?
- 55:17Speaker 4: Even better other than that was not getting picked last
- 55:20Speaker 4: in gym and junior year of high school that one time.
- 55:23Speaker 4: I'm just kidding No, I mean I realized early on Bobby,
- 55:26Speaker 4: I couldn't hit the curve, couldn't make the jump shot,
- 55:29Speaker 4: and I needed to talk a.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Good game in order to get to a certain level.
- 55:32Speaker 2: You know, was there a decision, final question, a decision
- 55:34Speaker 2: you made that looking back, you're really glad you made
- 55:38Speaker 2: a career wise, but was really tough then in it
- 55:42Speaker 2: really it dictated a lot of where your career went.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Oh God, yeah, I mean I had many of those
- 55:49Speaker 4: moments man cross roads type moments, cross road moment. The
- 55:52Speaker 4: first crossroad moment was working for the hometown newspaper, the
- 55:55Speaker 4: Staten Island Advance or the Advances we would refer to
- 55:57Speaker 4: it in Staten Island and it was covering on the
- 56:00Speaker 4: cops feat and I was following ambulances because I didn't
- 56:04Speaker 4: know what the hell I was doing, and I pulled
- 56:06Speaker 4: off the side of the road. I'm like, there's no
- 56:08Speaker 4: other way to parse what I'm doing right now other
- 56:09Speaker 4: than ambulance chasing.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I need to do something about it.
- 56:12Speaker 4: And I went back to grad school to Northwestern, a
- 56:15Speaker 4: deal school of journalism. That was a big moment for me,
- 56:18Speaker 4: getting my first job and reading California and throwing myself
- 56:21Speaker 4: deep into it was another job like that moment moment.
- 56:25Speaker 4: Now the crossroads was just saying, screw it, I'll just
- 56:27Speaker 4: send my tape to a headhunter. Sent it to three
- 56:29Speaker 4: different headhunters and one of them showed my tape to ESPN.
- 56:34Speaker 4: I got hired by ESPN through there, and another one
- 56:37Speaker 4: was standing my ground with ESPN about what I wanted
- 56:40Speaker 4: to do for them, which led to me getting handed
- 56:42Speaker 4: a cardboard box and an opportunity with NFL Network and
- 56:45Speaker 4: choosing them when I had a couple of options at
- 56:49Speaker 4: the time, doing that, and then deciding that I wanted
- 56:55Speaker 4: to not just rest on what I was doing for
- 56:57Speaker 4: NFL Network, start a podcast, which led to my current
- 56:59Speaker 4: show every Day, and just believing in that I that
- 57:03Speaker 4: there's more that I can do than whatever I was
- 57:05Speaker 4: supposedly considered by management to be too important and good
- 57:11Speaker 4: at what I was doing, to try and keep on
- 57:13Speaker 4: looking at everything else and try and be ahead of
- 57:15Speaker 4: the curve doing a podcast before many people did one,
- 57:18Speaker 4: and go to streaming before anybody considered that is a
- 57:21Speaker 4: viable option like that, that was Those are all those moments.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Well, I'm want to encourage everybody to stream your podcast.
- 57:28Speaker 1: That's how I listen every day. Thanks brother.
- 57:31Speaker 2: I don't only do anything live anymore, Like do you
- 57:33Speaker 2: consume anything live?
- 57:34Speaker 1: Accept sports?
- 57:35Speaker 4: Sports is pretty much it? Yeah, man, Yeah, that's a
- 57:38Speaker 4: that's about it. I mean Saturday Night Live, I watch
- 57:41Speaker 4: on clips? What else I mean, yeah, I mean even
- 57:46Speaker 4: like about it. Television shows, it's all on demand at
- 57:49Speaker 4: this point. Yeah, I didn't even think I have cable anymore. Well,
- 57:52Speaker 4: that's good because get Roku. I do have, Chiz, I
- 57:55Speaker 4: do have.
- 57:56Speaker 2: I'm a big fan. I really appreciate you making all
- 57:58Speaker 2: the time for us here anytime, Mike anything.
- 58:00Speaker 1: What was the last good movie you saw?
- 58:02Speaker 4: Last good movie I saw in the theater anywhere anywhere
- 58:07Speaker 4: that I've never seen before?
- 58:08Speaker 1: Yeah, New One.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Huh, that's a good question. Last good movie, man, I don't.
- 58:17Speaker 4: I don't know. I liked American Fiction this year. I
- 58:21Speaker 4: like that a lot. I'm a big Jeffrey Wright fan,
- 58:24Speaker 4: so I'll go with that one.
- 58:25Speaker 2: That's a good movie where he writes that book kind
- 58:29Speaker 2: of as a joke and then gets really famous from it.
- 58:31Speaker 2: And he'd been doing serious stuff before then and it
- 58:32Speaker 2: hadn't worked out, but then when he yeah, it's a
- 58:36Speaker 2: good movie.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Kevin, anything real quick?
- 58:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:38Speaker 3: I often say that you're like Jim nance when you
- 58:41Speaker 3: do the draft. Hello, I watched the draft and I'm like, Oh,
- 58:43Speaker 3: this is like Jim Nanster and the Masters.
- 58:45Speaker 1: All right, where do you put that draft? Like work
- 58:47Speaker 1: in the draft weekend? For you?
- 58:48Speaker 4: Oh, it's the hardest thing I do, No, without a doubt,
- 58:52Speaker 4: because it's long, it's live, the clock's moving. You gotta
- 58:57Speaker 4: not only know what's going on on the clock, you
- 58:59Speaker 4: got to know who's next. You got to know what's
- 59:00Speaker 4: happening after that. You got to know what the narratives
- 59:02Speaker 4: are going in, how they're playing out or not playing out.
- 59:05Speaker 4: When it's live in the first round and then the
- 59:07Speaker 4: second and third rounds, you got to treat that like
- 59:10Speaker 4: it's the first round, and sometimes it can get a
- 59:12Speaker 4: little slow there, and then the last day is just comedy.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Just like, let's just go.
- 59:16Speaker 4: There's a lot of time if you're watching between rounds
- 59:18Speaker 4: four and seven, you need to be entertained as much
- 59:21Speaker 4: as possible. So there's different vibes every night. But it
- 59:24Speaker 4: is like, when I'm done with it, it is. It
- 59:26Speaker 4: is demanding. It is the most mentally demanding thing that
- 59:28Speaker 4: I do. But I love it.
- 59:29Speaker 2: Yeah, your car is here. I've just been told fantastic,
- 59:32Speaker 2: so perfect time.
- 59:33Speaker 4: Yeah, my flight's taken off in an hour and fifteen
- 59:35Speaker 4: and my TSA pre.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Ran out, plenty of time, no problem, naked, I feel
- 59:40Speaker 2: the naked rich. Thanks for coming mine and really appreciate it.
