- 0:12Hi Jake Fallon, thanks for listening to the slippery slope.
- 0:15So last night on the news I was watching, I was watching this
- 0:19report regarding an officer, Queensland police officer from
- 0:24from Logan, who had died. The wife of this police officer
- 0:29claims that it was he died because basically toxic mold.
- 0:32I'd heard about this report before, couldn't find a lot of
- 0:35reporting about it. So we'll go.
- 0:39Just go through this this this article about the about the
- 0:44officer dying and I tell you what really stood out to me the
- 0:49most in In one way I find it. Still find it very
- 0:55disappointing, the reaction that comes from the Queensland Police
- 0:58Service. On one hand I'm very
- 1:01disappointed and yet on the other hand, I'm not at all
- 1:05surprised because it's exactly how you think this organization
- 1:10is going to react, exactly how they're going to react anyway.
- 1:15Yeah, I'll just go through it quickly.
- 1:17It's just a it's a fairly quick report anyway, so this headline
- 1:22here. Justin Danny, wife of cop claims
- 1:27toxic mold at the police station he worked at in Logan, Brisbane
- 1:31claimed his life so he died from pancreatic cancer.
- 1:37So a heartbroken wife has claimed her police officer
- 1:40husband died because of exposure to toxic mold at the station
- 1:43where he worked. Senior Constable Danny, a hard
- 1:46working, hard working cop in Logan, South of Brisbane for 20
- 1:49years, died in January. In his early 40s after
- 1:52developing a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.
- 1:57Now his wife Shari is campaigning to hold an inquest
- 2:02into his death as she believes his condition was caused by the
- 2:05mold he was exposed to at work, she says.
- 2:09I still remember in the end he said to me, this really sucks,
- 2:14he said I could. I could understand being shot or
- 2:16something happening to me in the line of Judy, but mold?
- 2:20Why? I said photos taken by Mr.
- 2:23Danny. Sorry.
- 2:25Photos taken when Mr. Danny was working at the station showed
- 2:28mold on the ceiling and furniture.
- 2:30This is inside the station. It's disgusting.
- 2:34So on the furniture ceiling with his with his wife claiming it
- 2:38even covered his gun if he left it in his drawer.
- 2:43Not sure we should be saying that.
- 2:46Miss Friadani said her husband complained about the issue 10
- 2:49years before he fell ill but he was just told to paint over it.
- 2:54I believe that it's a weird statement to make.
- 2:56I believe the whole paint over is because he used to be a
- 2:58painter before he joined the force, so but it's still it's.
- 3:03This is a strange reaction but anyway, the husband, her husband
- 3:07fell ill three years ago, age 38.
- 3:10We walked into the GP and he said I'm so sorry.
- 3:13Now you've got pancreatic cancer and it's spread to your liver.
- 3:17I still remember the shock in his face.
- 3:21So Miss Mr. Danny was initially given seven days to live but
- 3:24survived 3 years. So going down here, says
- 3:28asbestos and dust diseases lawyer Sean Sweeney from Slater
- 3:32and Gordon is representing Miss Mrs. Frea Danny in a bid for
- 3:36justice. He said that antibody tests.
- 3:40Conducted by doctors found that Mr. Dani had high levels of
- 3:43micro toxins, which are produced by some varieties of mold.
- 3:49It's terrible what happened to Justin and it's sad that the
- 3:51truth is it could have been avoided if more had been done,
- 3:55Mr. Sweeney said. This this is what I'm talking
- 3:58about when I'm said I'm I'm disappointed and get.
- 4:03And yet, you know, this is the kind of reaction you you always
- 4:06expect. I heard this on the news last
- 4:08night. A spokesman for Queensland
- 4:10Police said testing throughout Logan Central Station found it
- 4:15to be a safe work environment and suitable for their
- 4:19designated use. This is typical.
- 4:27It's it's typical. Look it and.
- 4:30Let's not say it's just QPS. It's typical of any big
- 4:33organization, especially a government organization, to
- 4:35immediately come up with the defence defensive posture and
- 4:41say, well look, you know, we've done testing or we've done our
- 4:43own studies and we've checked this out and it's can't possibly
- 4:46be our faults. They immediately get on on the
- 4:49front foot, start either attacking, you know, attacking
- 4:54the people who are making these accusations or whatever.
- 4:57Or you know asserting their position that they are innocent
- 5:00and they they cannot be blamed and and but the I think the
- 5:05thing that's most most disappointing is the Queensland
- 5:09Police Service have this this that that this kind of branch of
- 5:15the the Q PS:. Which they say or this not a
- 5:18branch sorry it's a this initiative within the Queensland
- 5:22Police Service and it's called our people matter.
- 5:25We just quickly have a look at at this.
- 5:28I'll bring up so you can check out what I'm talking about.
- 5:34So our people matter when you click on it says well-being and
- 5:36support services, supporting members and families throughout
- 5:40their QPS career and beyond. I mean you see in the first
- 5:45thing they say is news about COVID-19 update.
- 5:48But I think this is what I found the most support and most
- 5:51disappointing with with QPS and their response.
- 5:55You know, they, they have this initiative.
- 5:57Our people matter where they supposedly going to support you.
- 6:01They're looking after your wellbeing.
- 6:03I'm supporting you throughout your career and beyond.
- 6:07So what? That's what they say.
- 6:09And yet every time, every time there's something, every time a
- 6:16situation raises its head and there's a possibility that the
- 6:19Queensland Police Service are possibly at fault, they
- 6:22immediately forget that our people matter.
- 6:25Go on the defensive. Start attacking your situation,
- 6:30pushing this narrative that there is no way they could
- 6:32possibly be at fault. Completely forgetting our people
- 6:36matter. Our people matter only when and
- 6:41if it suits them. This is the and this is what I
- 6:46saw. Everyone seen it over the last
- 6:48couple of years as soon as people didn't like.
- 6:51What came up with Well, with the mandates, with the the jab
- 6:55mandates, our people no longer matter.
- 6:58They no longer matter. Your decision making goes
- 7:02against what the Queensland Police Service believe.
- 7:05Our people no longer matter. This young man possibly got sick
- 7:11because of the mold. That's what's being asserted
- 7:13here. Because of the mold, Because
- 7:15someone's obviously not cleaning the station properly.
- 7:19First thing they do is go on the defensive and say, well, we've
- 7:22checked it all out, what is it? Testing throughout Logan Central
- 7:27Station found it to be a safe work environment suitable for
- 7:30designated use. There was no there's no concern,
- 7:33there's no compassion, there's no well, if this is true, there
- 7:38is no way we want this in our stations.
- 7:40Well, there's no way that the Queensland Police Service can
- 7:43stand for for an unhealthy unsafe.
- 7:51Unclean work environment. No, it's just we've had it
- 7:55checked out and so safe. Our people do not matter.
- 8:01Their people do not matter. That's the sad truth of it.
- 8:05We'll be following this to see where where abouts it goes.
- 8:08Be very interesting to see. Just another reminder.
- 8:11But our people don't matter, their people don't matter.
- 8:15It's my opinion. Thanks for listening to the
- 8:17Super slow. They just feel the design.
- 8:20They
