Yesterday a court ruled that Matric results may be published in the newspaper after a long battle over the subject.
The issue at hand is that publishing Matric results publicly in the newspaper is in contravention of the POPI Act which aims to protect public privacy. The counter argument is that millions of South Africans view their Matric marks in the newspaper every year and without access to data or ease of transport the newspaper provides a stable and cost-effective provision of information. |
