- 0:40Speaker 1: to our first guest today as we welcome in our
- 0:42Speaker 1: Dodgers and every other team insider, Ken Rosenthal, covering Major
- 0:47Speaker 1: League Baseball better than anybody else. Kenny, good to see
- 0:50Speaker 1: you as we get ready to get into the Inside
- 0:52Speaker 1: Scoop presented by Fox One.
- 0:59Speaker 2: All right, Ken. So we welcome you in. Always good
- 1:01Speaker 2: to see you.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Of course, Los Angeles leading the Atlanta Braves by a
- 1:05Speaker 1: score of two to one in that best of five series.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Kike Hernandez and October, Ken, just synonymous.
- 1:12Speaker 2: What have you seen so far?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Well, that part of it is incredible right there. He
- 1:17Speaker 3: has 17 career post-season home runs. That's as many as
- 1:21Speaker 3: David Ortiz and some other big names. Jim Tomey was
- 1:24Speaker 3: another one on that list. And I know maybe Kike's
- 1:27Speaker 3: gotten more opportunities than some, but it's not like he's
- 1:31Speaker 3: an everyday player.
- 1:32Speaker 4: And we have seen this repeatedly.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Over the years that he gets his opportunities when they
- 1:39Speaker 3: come in October and he rises to the occasion. And
- 1:42Speaker 3: last night he did it against Chris Sale, one of
- 1:45Speaker 3: the best pitchers in the game. So October Kike or
- 1:50Speaker 3: October Kike is a real thing. And it's just kind
- 1:54Speaker 3: of one of those quirks in baseball but a credit
- 1:56Speaker 3: to him too because clearly he stays ready clearly he
- 2:00Speaker 3: seizes and loves the moment and i said on the
- 2:04Speaker 3: show last night that his agent when i asked him
- 2:07Speaker 3: about this he had that great line about how they
- 2:09Speaker 3: cryogenically seal him until september and then let him out
- 2:14Speaker 3: it almost like makes sense but of course that's not
- 2:18Speaker 3: happening he.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Even said post game he said i don't really like
- 2:21Speaker 5: talking about he said i feel like my luck's gonna
- 2:23Speaker 5: run out well At this point, it's no longer luck.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Because you talk to everybody, from the managers to the
- 2:29Speaker 5: coaches to the players. Who's more surprised? Kike or his
- 2:34Speaker 5: teammates that he did this again in the postseason?
- 2:38Speaker 4: I would say no.
- 2:39Speaker 3: One with the Dodgers is surprised because this has been
- 2:42Speaker 3: going on for years now, Eric. And it's just a
- 2:47Speaker 3: testament to his character and his drive and all the
- 2:51Speaker 3: things that he brings.
- 2:51Speaker 4: To the team. One of the reasons.
- 2:53Speaker 3: that Dave Roberts had him in there yesterday. And this,
- 2:56Speaker 3: of course, is not the main reason. The main reason
- 2:58Speaker 3: was they wanted the right-handed hitters against Sale. And they wanted,
- 3:02Speaker 3: in this particular situation, Max Muncy not in the lineup,
- 3:06Speaker 3: Tommy Edmund not.
- 3:06Speaker 6: In the lineup.
- 3:07Speaker 3: They wanted the right-handed guys. Edmund's swing didn't match up
- 3:10Speaker 3: with Sale's. Muncy is a left-handed hitter. Not a great
- 3:13Speaker 3: matchup for him either. So that's the main reason KK's
- 3:17Speaker 3: in there. But as Dave Roberts said after the game,
- 3:20Speaker 3: he also brings an energy about him There's an urgency
- 3:25Speaker 3: to him when he's out there. And it's not that
- 3:28Speaker 3: the guys on the Dodgers didn't feel that urgency, but
- 3:31Speaker 3: as I wrote this morning, Roberts had a meeting or
- 3:34Speaker 3: attended the hitters meeting on the workout day and said, guys,
- 3:38Speaker 3: play it like it's elimination game tomorrow.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Let's go. And even the Dodgers, as accomplished.
- 3:44Speaker 3: As they are, and maybe especially the Dodgers because they're
- 3:47Speaker 3: so accomplished, occasionally need that reminder that it's kind of
- 3:51Speaker 3: go time, guys.
- 3:52Speaker 4: And I know it's the playoffs, and people might say, well,
- 3:54Speaker 4: come on.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But this team has been here so many times before,
- 3:59Speaker 3: maybe they needed that little extra push, and Kike is
- 4:02Speaker 3: the kind of guy who can give it to them.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Kind of melding what you talked about in your article
- 4:07Speaker 5: with Dave Roberts and the meeting that he had, and
- 4:09Speaker 5: having Kike in there, and having Miguel Rojas. There's other
- 4:12Speaker 5: teams that we've heard, well, you know, this shouldn't be
- 4:16Speaker 5: panic time, and yet what I gleaned from your article
- 4:19Speaker 5: was it kind of is panic time that Dave, not
- 4:22Speaker 5: panic in a bad way, but Dave Roberts was like, guys,
- 4:25Speaker 5: we need you to have urgency. Is that something he's
- 4:29Speaker 5: learned and always been that way? Or when they weren't
- 4:32Speaker 5: winning the World Series championships, was he more leaning to
- 4:36Speaker 5: where I think some of the other managers are where
- 4:38Speaker 5: it's like, well, the numbers say this should happen.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Eric, it's a great point you make.
- 4:43Speaker 3: He definitely over the years, in my view, has grown
- 4:47Speaker 3: into the job and.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Assumed a more assertive way about him.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Not that he wasn't before, but he feels comfortable. Now
- 4:57Speaker 3: he also feels like he knows his players. Many of
- 5:00Speaker 3: these players have been with him for years now. So
- 5:04Speaker 3: as I wrote, it's tricky for a manager in his
- 5:06Speaker 3: position when you've got a team like this that wins
- 5:09Speaker 3: so much, it's difficult to know when to push the
- 5:12Speaker 3: button and when to say, guys, let's go. But You
- 5:15Speaker 3: make a great point, Eric. And let's go to the
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yankees series as an example. My friend Joel Sherman, the
- 5:20Speaker 3: New York Post, wrote yesterday they should have extensive lineup changes,
- 5:24Speaker 3: maybe expensive lineup changes too, for tonight's game. And Aaron
- 5:28Speaker 3: Boone has been resistant to that kind of thing over
- 5:31Speaker 3: the years. And it's going to be really interesting to
- 5:34Speaker 3: see who they roll out there tonight, if it's their
- 5:36Speaker 3: best defense or are they going to go in some
- 5:39Speaker 3: other way. As I wrote today, Roberts clearly was not
- 5:45Speaker 3: satisfied with what he saw in game two. Team was
- 5:49Speaker 3: a little complacent, almost like they conceded in a way.
- 5:52Speaker 4: And with that, he wasn't going to sit still.
- 5:55Speaker 3: So yeah, credit to him for doing that, in my opinion,
- 5:58Speaker 3: because sometimes teams need a little bit of a boost.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Ken, switching our focus now on the playoffs. Atlanta Braves
- 6:09Speaker 1: and Chris Sale. It wasn't as if Chris Sale pitched
- 6:11Speaker 1: extremely poorly. I mean, it was seven hits, three earned runs.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He did have seven punchies. It was just that Yamamoto
- 6:17Speaker 1: pitched a little bit better. I mean, seven innings with
- 6:19Speaker 1: four hits, just the one earned run and 10 Ks
- 6:21Speaker 1: for Yamamoto. Yamamoto, Ken, I don't know if he gets
- 6:26Speaker 1: the attention he deserves. It seems a little silly considering
- 6:30Speaker 1: he was the World Series MVP, but so much of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the conversation entering this good matchup was about Chris Sale,
- 6:36Speaker 1: not necessarily on Yamamoto. Did he show you something more yesterday?
- 6:40Speaker 4: Not something more.
- 6:41Speaker 3: He showed me what he's shown me in the postseason
- 6:44Speaker 3: ever since he arrived in this country.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Alana, I would agree with you.
- 6:49Speaker 3: He doesn't get enough credit, and maybe it's because, obviously,
- 6:53Speaker 3: he's Japanese, he doesn't speak English, he's not in the
- 6:55Speaker 3: media as much as some others, but that shouldn't be it,
- 6:59Speaker 3: and shouldn't be a reason why he doesn't get the
- 7:01Speaker 3: attention he deserves. Most people understand who he is by now,
- 7:05Speaker 3: and he is a surgeon out there. He has six pitches,
- 7:09Speaker 3: and he'll go to them at different times, and he'll
- 7:14Speaker 3: have different usage patterns. Batter-to-batter, game-to-game, inning-to-inning, however you want
- 7:19Speaker 3: to break it down. And I asked pitching coach Mark
- 7:22Speaker 3: Pryor about this, and he said, listen, this guy, he obviously,
- 7:26Speaker 3: since coming over here, has learned more about the hitters.
- 7:30Speaker 3: And he has a great understanding of what he wants
- 7:32Speaker 3: to do, what is working. And the key thing is
- 7:36Speaker 3: he has the ability to– increases fastball usage as he
- 7:41Speaker 3: did yesterday or increases split usage, his sinker usage, his cutter,
- 7:45Speaker 3: whatever the case might be.
- 7:46Speaker 4: However he wants to go, he can take that route.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Ken, you're so biased towards the Dodgers. All you want
- 7:54Speaker 6: to talk about is the Dodgers. So I see that.
- 7:57Speaker 6: I mean, Alana's on here.
- 7:58Speaker 4: I'm answering questions about the Dodgers, AJ. What's your question?
- 8:01Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 8:01Speaker 6: I'm going to ask about the Braves. What's wrong with
- 8:04Speaker 6: the Braves' offense? Ronald Acuna has done basically nothing. You know,
- 8:09Speaker 6: with him being hurt, he has to DH, take Sean
- 8:12Speaker 6: Murphy out of the lineup. Where's the Brave offense going?
- 8:15Speaker 6: Because this has been a team for years that, oh,
- 8:17Speaker 6: it's offense, offense, offense. They're going to score a million runs.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Is it a credit to the Dodgers pitching or is
- 8:22Speaker 6: the offense for the Dodgers or Braves just not that good?
- 8:24Speaker 3: It's not just Acuna. It's Baldwin and it's Olsen, too.
- 8:28Speaker 3: These guys combined in the postseason have not done much. Now,
- 8:33Speaker 3: one reason for that, and it's not to make an excuse,
- 8:35Speaker 3: but let's face it.
- 8:36Speaker 4: They have seen great pitching.
- 8:39Speaker 3: In the wild card series, it was Lizardo, Sanchez, and
- 8:42Speaker 3: then Wheeler in relief of Nola. In this series, Scooble, Snell,
- 8:47Speaker 3: that they did a decent job against, and of course, Yamamoto.
- 8:50Speaker 3: So we're talking about Cy Young winners. We're talking about
- 8:53Speaker 3: a World Series MVP.
- 8:55Speaker 4: And again, no excuses.
- 8:56Speaker 3: This is the time of year when you face that
- 8:58Speaker 3: kind of quality of pitching. But at the same time,
- 9:02Speaker 3: that's part of it. Now, if the Braves are going
- 9:06Speaker 3: to get back in this series, they've got a hit tonight.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And for all the talk about their pitching, and I've
- 9:12Speaker 3: talked about it endlessly, we all have.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Hey, they don't have enough starters, blah, blah, blah. Their
- 9:17Speaker 4: team ERA in this series, I believe, is 3.16. Actually,
- 9:21Speaker 4: in the postseason. Something like that.
- 9:23Speaker 3: 3.16. It's in the low threes. That's not the problem.
- 9:26Speaker 3: The pitching has not been the problem.
- 9:28Speaker 4: They've got a hit.
- 9:29Speaker 3: And I would expect tonight they'll get a representative showing,
- 9:32Speaker 3: if not a good showing, from Tyler Malley. He's been really,
- 9:35Speaker 3: really good for them. But If they don't get to
- 9:38Speaker 3: Tyler Glass now, it's over.
- 9:41Speaker 5: I assume the lineups aren't out yet, but the chance
- 9:43Speaker 5: of Acuna being in there at DH, does that hamstring,
- 9:48Speaker 5: that injury, going to loom large in hamstringing them, putting
- 9:52Speaker 5: their best lineup out there?
- 9:55Speaker 4: I don't see it that way, Eric.
- 9:57Speaker 3: They're pretty good without him in right field, but the
- 10:01Speaker 3: expectation among their people is that he is going to
- 10:04Speaker 3: be in right field tonight. Obviously he has to go
- 10:07Speaker 3: out to the field, get checked out, run around a
- 10:10Speaker 3: little bit and make sure he's okay. But as of
- 10:12Speaker 3: last night, that was the expectation that he would be
- 10:15Speaker 3: in the lineup in right field. Obviously, he had some
- 10:18Speaker 3: knee soreness yesterday. That's what slowed him down, made him
- 10:21Speaker 3: be a DH. But they're pretty happy with Sean Murphy,
- 10:23Speaker 3: the way he's hitting right now. So they didn't feel
- 10:26Speaker 3: badly about their lineup. I don't know that that's necessarily
- 10:29Speaker 3: limiting them. What's limiting them.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Is they're not hitting.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Ken, something was said about, you know, that Dave Roberts
- 10:36Speaker 1: needed to move Ohtani down in the lineup. Obviously, Kiki
- 10:39Speaker 1: Hernandez finally getting a start versus coming off of the bench.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I understand, you know, Tyler Molle is not Chris Sale,
- 10:45Speaker 1: but do you anticipate the same looking type of lineup
- 10:48Speaker 1: from the Dodgers today?
- 10:51Speaker 3: What Dave Roberts said yesterday in answering questions about the
- 10:55Speaker 3: Ohtani move was that it was temporary. that it was
- 10:58Speaker 3: not going to be permanent, and he certainly indicated that
- 11:00Speaker 3: Otani would be in a higher spot tonight. That was
- 11:03Speaker 3: the lowest he has hit in a batting order since
- 11:06Speaker 3: 2020 when he was with the Angels. So the expectation
- 11:10Speaker 3: is that he'll be back higher in the lineup tonight,
- 11:13Speaker 3: or at least that was the indication yesterday.
- 11:15Speaker 4: But at the same time, he is struggling, and it
- 11:19Speaker 4: wasn't much better last night, really. So I don't know
- 11:23Speaker 4: what they're going to do along those lines.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's going to be Interesting to see exactly how they
- 11:29Speaker 3: go about it. I'm expecting Muncy to be back in there.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I would think Edmonds back in there as well. Rojas,
- 11:34Speaker 3: of course, left the game last night with a back issue.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Where are Otani bats, though? I guess that is the question.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Ken, Otani last night, yes, he didn't, I mean, he,
- 11:44Speaker 6: I guess, struggled, but he was better. He didn't go
- 11:46Speaker 6: way out of the strike zone. He was kind of
- 11:48Speaker 6: laying off more pitches. Do you know if Dave Roberts
- 11:50Speaker 6: talked to him or the hitting coaches talked to him?
- 11:52Speaker 6: Because that's kind of been his big thing, right? since
- 11:55Speaker 6: he's come back. He's been swinging at everything. So I
- 11:58Speaker 6: know Dave Roberts talked to the hitters. Did he have
- 11:59Speaker 6: a private meeting with Otani and say, hey, man, take
- 12:02Speaker 6: some pitches? Because Chris Hill basically didn't throw him any strikes,
- 12:05Speaker 6: and he did a much better job of getting into
- 12:07Speaker 6: better counts.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I don't know if they talked to him privately. I
- 12:11Speaker 4: imagine they did.
- 12:12Speaker 3: They've certainly been very public, or at least Roberts has,
- 12:15Speaker 3: about how Otani's been chasing.
- 12:17Speaker 4: It's no secret that he's been chasing.
- 12:18Speaker 3: So I'm sure at some level they said, hey, man,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you know, Maybe wait to get the ball in the
- 12:24Speaker 3: zone a little more.
- 12:25Speaker 4: So it's not a secret what's happening with him.
- 12:30Speaker 3: My question there is, and this is the kind of
- 12:32Speaker 3: thing we never find out until the following spring, how
- 12:36Speaker 3: compromised is he physically?
- 12:38Speaker 4: Now, I know they say.
- 12:39Speaker 3: He's okay, he's playing, and certainly guys play banged up
- 12:42Speaker 3: at this time all the time.
- 12:44Speaker 4: But I'm just wondering just how much.
- 12:49Speaker 4: What percentage he's at. Is he at 80? Is he
- 12:51Speaker 4: at 90?
- 12:52Speaker 3: Now we'll probably never find out, but at the same time,
- 12:56Speaker 3: that's my question.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 5: And that was the question going into the series about
- 13:00Speaker 5: Freddie Freeman too. And Freddie Freeman had one extra base hit.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Is this, is this just, I mean, it's almost comical
- 13:08Speaker 5: that he can turn it around like this, essentially hit
- 13:10Speaker 5: two home runs last night. I know the one was robbed,
- 13:13Speaker 5: but turning it around, does he feel or look to
- 13:16Speaker 5: the team or to your eye that he's, Physically better
- 13:20Speaker 5: or he's just postseason Freddie now?
- 13:24Speaker 3: Something happened during the bye that kind of helped him
- 13:27Speaker 3: turn around.
- 13:28Speaker 4: And what happened was this.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Hitting coaches and him saw on video that he was
- 13:36Speaker 3: kind of turning his upper body too far toward shortstop
- 13:40Speaker 3: and third base. What Freddie tries to do is hit
- 13:43Speaker 3: everything over the shortstop's head.
- 13:44Speaker 4: That's his goal. And you can see that watching him hit.
- 13:47Speaker 3: But there are times when he will get into an
- 13:51Speaker 3: exaggerated position because he's trying to do that, and that
- 13:54Speaker 3: is what happened. So the adjustment he made was getting
- 13:58Speaker 3: square toward the pitcher and not turning so much toward
- 14:02Speaker 3: the left side of the infield, and that is what
- 14:05Speaker 3: turned him around. Before the series started, he told me
- 14:08Speaker 3: five days ago I felt like I couldn't hit.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Now I feel like I'm back. This physical adjustment he
- 14:15Speaker 4: made is similar.
- 14:16Speaker 3: To the mental cue that he kind of adopted in 2024.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Remember when he would talk about that step out move
- 14:23Speaker 3: when he was thinking in his head, step back or
- 14:26Speaker 3: step out. Don't be so focused on going that way
- 14:30Speaker 3: in your head and that.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Way you won't.
- 14:33Speaker 3: It's kind of complicated to explain, complicated to understand, but
- 14:36Speaker 3: that was his thinking.
- 14:37Speaker 4: This is a physical adjustment that he made.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I was always worried about Freddie Freeman being able
- 14:43Speaker 6: to hit. I mean, one thing Freddie Freeman will always be.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Able to do, Ken, is hit.
- 14:46Speaker 6: So tonight, when you're on the broadcast, I want you
- 14:48Speaker 6: to do me a favor. I want you to have
- 14:50Speaker 6: Jen and Brandon Godden and John Smoltz and everybody there
- 14:54Speaker 6: in Atlanta, I want you to have them send you
- 14:56Speaker 6: a tomahawk steak, a big tomahawk steak. They brought one
- 14:59Speaker 6: to us last time I did a game in Atlanta,
- 15:01Speaker 6: and I want to see you house that whole thing, Ken.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Take full boat on camera and house that whole thing.
- 15:08Speaker 4: All right, I'm going to go now. But unlike you,
- 15:09Speaker 4: when I'm on a broadcast, my focus is not eating.
- 15:12Speaker 6: What do you mean? Last night in San Diego, they
- 15:17Speaker 6: brought us donuts. They brought us a surf and turf sandwich.
- 15:20Speaker 6: They brought us a pretzel Cuban. What else did they
- 15:24Speaker 6: bring us? Geez, they brought us so much stuff.
- 15:26Speaker 5: AJ, I'll see you later, man.

- 16:10Speaker 2: You got the best series, I think, out of all
- 16:12Speaker 2: of them. What a good time.
- 16:14Speaker 6: I mean, three one-run games. No team has had more
- 16:17Speaker 6: than a two-run lead at any point in this series.
- 16:21Speaker 6: Every at-bat, we kind of try to think about this.
- 16:24Speaker 6: How many at-bats in this series have there been? where
- 16:27Speaker 6: someone couldn't tie or take the lead for one of
- 16:29Speaker 6: the teams. It's been very few and far between. Two great,
- 16:33Speaker 6: amazing atmospheres, Milwaukee and then San Diego last night. When
- 16:37Speaker 6: they do all the small things, and we showed the
- 16:41Speaker 6: lead singer for Blink-182 who was sitting in the front row,
- 16:44Speaker 6: the place went absolutely insane. Huge hits, huge defensive plays,
- 16:49Speaker 6: huge pitches, guys going missing games for bursts of child. Guys,
- 16:55Speaker 6: lineup changes late because of things. Just who's going to pitch.
- 17:00Speaker 6: I don't know how the Padres are going to find
- 17:02Speaker 6: nine innings of outs today with Buehler starting and then
- 17:06Speaker 6: a lot of their longer guys worn down. Michael King
- 17:08Speaker 6: coming out of the bullpen for two innings and 40
- 17:10Speaker 6: pitches last night. This series has literally had everything you
- 17:14Speaker 6: could ask for as a fan. Three one-run games, three
- 17:17Speaker 6: games that came down to the last pitch with guys
- 17:20Speaker 6: on base.
- 17:20Speaker 5: This has been one of the best series I've ever seen.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Eric, are you not entertained?
- 17:28Speaker 5: I mean, if you're not entertained by this series, you
- 17:31Speaker 5: don't like baseball. Because there's homers, there's small ball, there's
- 17:36Speaker 5: all the other stories, there's the electric atmosphere at both stadiums,
- 17:40Speaker 5: all like you guys said. And the fact that the Padres,
- 17:45Speaker 5: I don't want to say lose, but they don't have
- 17:46Speaker 5: Mason Miller, and then their best starting pitcher ultimately becomes
- 17:52Speaker 5: their closer and says– I'm available for game three, game four,
- 17:56Speaker 5: and game five if you need me. To me, it's
- 18:01Speaker 5: almost like watching a kid's game where kids are like,
- 18:06Speaker 5: I don't want to lose. I don't want to lose.
- 18:08Speaker 5: We're going to do whatever it takes, and we're going
- 18:10Speaker 5: to get the job done. That Tatis, that bat, while
- 18:12Speaker 5: it's never going to go down in the scorebook, it's like, oh, wow,
- 18:16Speaker 5: he got an RBI. People hate on the RBI. He
- 18:20Speaker 5: did whatever he could to make sure he got that
- 18:23Speaker 5: run in with the bases, with the infield drawn in.
- 18:27Speaker 5: They're running a contact play. It's just been incredible baseball.
- 18:33Speaker 5: And I hope it goes to game five because I
- 18:35Speaker 5: want to see two more of these games.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it. It has been an absolute blast.
- 18:39Speaker 1: One thing that was interesting is Dennis Lynn, who covers
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Padres guys for The Athletic, had an article about
- 18:45Speaker 1: how A staff, well, a team dinner, rather, about 10
- 18:48Speaker 1: weeks ago hosted, it was players only at a Miami restaurant.
- 18:53Speaker 1: At that time, the Padres were a game below 500,
- 18:56Speaker 1: a long shot to even reach the postseason. It was
- 18:58Speaker 1: hosted by Michael King, but it was Manny Machado who
- 19:01Speaker 1: kind of stood up and addressed his teammates for a
- 19:03Speaker 1: little bit more than a minute, talking about how they
- 19:05Speaker 1: needed to refine their attention to detail, rededicating themselves to
- 19:09Speaker 1: their preparation, reducing distractions, including, and I love your take
- 19:12Speaker 1: on this, guys.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I'll start with you, AJ.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Including rethinking when children should be allowed in the Padres clubhouse.
- 19:19Speaker 1: For example, if they lose Manny was saying, and I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: paraphrasing here that that's not the time. It's not a
- 19:25Speaker 1: celebratory type of situation, right? Kids shouldn't be running around
- 19:27Speaker 1: the clubhouse. It's the time to refocus those types of things.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So AJ, I want your opinion on, on that conversation
- 19:34Speaker 1: and that team dinner. And also what are some other
- 19:36Speaker 1: things that you've done in terms of riding the ship
- 19:40Speaker 1: for your team, if they were going in the wrong direction?
- 19:43Speaker 6: Oh, well, I mean, everyone tries these team dinners. Everyone
- 19:46Speaker 6: does these team dinners. Everyone tries to get together and
- 19:48Speaker 6: do things. And sometimes they work and sometimes it's just
- 19:51Speaker 6: a really good dinner with a lot of fun. And
- 19:53Speaker 6: it doesn't really change the trajectory of your team. I
- 19:55Speaker 6: was on bad teams in Atlanta. We had team dinners
- 19:58Speaker 6: and we could have had all the team.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Dinners every night and it wouldn't matter. We just weren't
- 20:01Speaker 5: very good.
- 20:01Speaker 6: So it's really cool that they had this team dinner.
- 20:06Speaker 6: But as far as the kids go, Here's the thing.
- 20:08Speaker 6: That's a team-by-team decision. I played on teams where kids
- 20:11Speaker 6: weren't allowed, right, at any time. And then I played
- 20:14Speaker 6: on the White Sox, and Ozzie Guillen actually wanted kids
- 20:17Speaker 6: after the game because he said after a loss more
- 20:20Speaker 6: than he wanted after a win because he said it
- 20:22Speaker 6: lightened up the mood and it changed everybody's mood. As
- 20:24Speaker 6: soon as their kids walked in, you put a smile
- 20:26Speaker 6: on your face instead of feeling sorry for yourself. So
- 20:29Speaker 6: it's a team-by-team decision. I was also on the Red
- 20:31Speaker 6: Sox 2014. We weren't very good.
- 20:33Speaker 5: They came in.
- 20:34Speaker 6: We had David Ortiz's kids, my kids, John Lester's kids.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Everybody had their kids running around because we had a
- 20:39Speaker 6: bunch of veteran guys. And John Farrell said, no more
- 20:42Speaker 6: kids in the clubhouse before the games, no more kids shagging.
- 20:46Speaker 6: And we had like Koji Uehara's kid. We had, again,
- 20:48Speaker 6: Ortiz's kid. My kids were out there shagging. They're having
- 20:50Speaker 6: the times of their life. It wasn't their fault we
- 20:52Speaker 6: were losing. It was our fault because we weren't playing
- 20:55Speaker 6: very well. So, you know, it's all, and I remember
- 20:58Speaker 6: David went crazy and was like, what, we can't, I
- 20:59Speaker 6: can't have D'Angelo in the clubhouse anymore. What are we doing?
- 21:02Speaker 6: And they just changed the rule because they thought that
- 21:04Speaker 6: would matter.
- 21:04Speaker 5: It didn't make a difference.
- 21:05Speaker 6: The team still finished last and, traded away everybody. So
- 21:08Speaker 6: it's a team by team decision and it's a person
- 21:10Speaker 6: by person decision. So you know what? Hey, if that's
- 21:14Speaker 6: what made the Padres win and that's what they go with.
- 21:16Speaker 6: So yeah, great. It's a great, it's a great story
- 21:20Speaker 6: because now they're in the NLDS and they're trying to
- 21:23Speaker 6: come back. So everybody's looking for a reason that changed
- 21:25Speaker 6: your season around. How about they just started playing better?
- 21:29Speaker 5: Yeah. Everybody has, you can stay, you can say a
- 21:32Speaker 5: team was doing terrible and they had a team meeting
- 21:35Speaker 5: and now they're doing well. Other teams were doing terrible
- 21:38Speaker 5: and they have team meals, maybe even better than sushi.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Maybe it's, you know, big time steakhouse. Maybe it's carnivore Milwaukee,
- 21:45Speaker 5: whatever it is. I wonder why Michael King hosted a
- 21:49Speaker 5: Miami party and Manny didn't host the party. That's my
- 21:53Speaker 5: biggest question, but no, there's so many different sides of it.
- 21:58Speaker 5: And what AJ said about Ozzie saying, no, I don't,
- 22:00Speaker 5: I want them to come in after losses because it
- 22:02Speaker 5: gets guys focused off of like feeling bad for themselves
- 22:05Speaker 5: and That's a mindset. I would never, as a 25th,
- 22:10Speaker 5: 26th man on the roster, bring my kids in after
- 22:13Speaker 5: a loss. Even if other kids, like the good players' kids,
- 22:19Speaker 5: were coming into the locker room, I wouldn't because I
- 22:21Speaker 5: wouldn't want my kid to be distracting the guys who
- 22:23Speaker 5: are out there playing. So there's so many ways to
- 22:26Speaker 5: divulge this. But if a little extra focus is because
- 22:29Speaker 5: there's only kids in when it wins– Maybe that did
- 22:32Speaker 5: help one extra win, two extra wins.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 22:35Speaker 5: I don't know. You can't say it didn't.
- 22:38Speaker 7: True.
- 22:39Speaker 6: By the way, speaking of Manny and dinners, you mentioned
- 22:42Speaker 6: carnivore too. We went to carnivore on Friday night before
- 22:45Speaker 6: the series started. And we saw, we saw Ms. We
- 22:49Speaker 6: saw Bryce Terang. We saw, you know, a couple of
- 22:51Speaker 6: people in there talking to him or whatever. And then
- 22:54Speaker 6: yesterday we're in San Diego and I'm in the clubhouse
- 22:56Speaker 6: talking to some of the guys and Manny comes up
- 22:58Speaker 6: to me and says, Hey man, thanks for.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Dinner the other night. And I was like, what? Say what?
- 23:04Speaker 5: He goes, Oh yeah.
- 23:05Speaker 6: They said, they said, uh, AJ bought you dinner at carnivore.
- 23:08Speaker 6: And I was like, yeah, I'm like, I didn't, but
- 23:13Speaker 6: I'll take credit for it.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Maybe it was pro or Ellis.
- 23:19Speaker 6: So I said, I said, Hey, I'll tell you what,
- 23:22Speaker 6: if you were in there, I would have bought you dinner,
- 23:24Speaker 6: but I didn't see you. I would have been more
- 23:26Speaker 6: than happy to have bought you dinner. And if I
- 23:28Speaker 6: see you next time, I'll buy you dinner, but I,
- 23:31Speaker 6: but you know what? And we were just laughing about it.
- 23:32Speaker 6: He's like, Hey, well, if it wasn't you, who wasn't?
- 23:34Speaker 6: And I was like, well, there's a couple other AJs
- 23:36Speaker 6: around on the Padres.
- 23:38Speaker 5: He was laughing.
- 23:38Speaker 6: We had a good, it was a funny story. Cause
- 23:40Speaker 6: just because we were laughing about that fact, I didn't
- 23:43Speaker 6: even know he was in there. And he's like, and
- 23:44Speaker 6: I said, did you get a special knife? He's like, Oh,
- 23:46Speaker 6: I have my own knife there. And then, you know,
- 23:48Speaker 6: they do special menus for you and the whole deal
- 23:50Speaker 6: of carnivore. It's a great place, but yeah, it was
- 23:52Speaker 6: just funny. He's like, Hey, thanks for dinner.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I'm like, you're welcome.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I mean, he makes a ton of cash. He should
- 23:58Speaker 1: be buying you dinner. Let's be honest. I mean, Manny Machado.
- 24:02Speaker 5: It's all good. It's all good. Okay.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Okay.
- 24:06Speaker 5: I apologize. Nobody asked for more free dinners on this
- 24:10Speaker 5: show than the person that's made the most money. I
- 24:13Speaker 5: think that's how it goes. But then that's usually why
- 24:17Speaker 5: he's probably bought more dinners for people. So that's, it's,
- 24:21Speaker 5: it's like a, You know, Alana, it's like the unspoken, like,
- 24:27Speaker 5: creed of baseball.
- 24:29Speaker 6: We'll have to ask when Ueno comes on. When Ueno
- 24:32Speaker 6: comes on, we'll have to ask him about that dinner
- 24:34Speaker 6: because there's a great story in that dinner that Ueno,
- 24:38Speaker 6: we have to get a little bit, we have to
- 24:39Speaker 6: get into with Ueno. And he'll know when I bring
- 24:42Speaker 6: it up what happened that night at dinner. And it
- 24:45Speaker 6: was pretty funny. So when Ueno comes on, we'll.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Have to ask him.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Carnivore in Milwaukee. Good to know. I've not been there. Um,
- 24:52Speaker 2: all right.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So Pat Murphy, uh, the manager of course, of the
- 24:55Speaker 1: Milwaukee brewers when asked about what?
- 24:58Speaker 2: Oh, that I've not been.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Oh, sorry. Sorry. Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 25:04Speaker 1: 12 straight road playoff losses and reflecting on who they
- 25:07Speaker 1: lost to. And Murph's comments were, I wouldn't beat up
- 25:09Speaker 1: on the old brewers if you don't mind. I mean,
- 25:11Speaker 1: this is a little silly, right? There's only one fricking
- 25:13Speaker 1: guy left. Uh, I think in, in terms of the
- 25:16Speaker 1: team that's, that's on that. I mean, If I'm Murph,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what? Quit underselling us. Quit doubting us.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Or maybe keep doubting us.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I don't know. EK, what do you think?
- 25:27Speaker 5: No one's doubting the Brewers. And Murph said that before.
- 25:31Speaker 5: He tried to play that card last year. It was
- 25:36Speaker 5: kind of like, eh, it's a last card. Nobody's doubting them.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Everybody knows that the Brewers are really good. And the
- 25:42Speaker 5: whole like, well, since 2018, it's like, what? What? Big
- 25:49Speaker 5: Wu's the only other person that's being paid by the– well,
- 25:52Speaker 5: I guess maybe Ryan Braun's still being paid by him,
- 25:54Speaker 5: but being paid by the Brewers right now. So it
- 25:58Speaker 5: doesn't apply. When they do all these stats and stuff,
- 26:02Speaker 5: this team is in a fine place. It doesn't matter
- 26:07Speaker 5: that Trent Grisham and Jolese Chassin and Wade Miley– lost
- 26:16Speaker 5: playoff games before. Like this is a brand new team.
- 26:19Speaker 5: And I love the response.
- 26:21Speaker 4: It was honest.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Speaking of honesty.
- 26:23Speaker 6: They broke one of the streaks last night. They broke
- 26:25Speaker 6: one of the streaks last night. Christian Yelich also hadn't
- 26:27Speaker 6: had an RBI since 2018. He got one last night
- 26:30Speaker 6: and he almost got another one at the end of
- 26:31Speaker 6: the game. That ball was smashed 107 miles an hour
- 26:34Speaker 6: and bogey went down like a catcher short hopped and
- 26:38Speaker 6: then turned into a double play. I saw, I saw
- 26:40Speaker 6: some Brewers people after the game and they said, and
- 26:42Speaker 6: that ball was hit. I thought it was at least
- 26:44Speaker 6: a tie game. We're at least looking at extra innings.
- 26:46Speaker 6: The last thing on earth I thought it would be
- 26:48Speaker 6: a double play, and me too. When he hit that ball,
- 26:50Speaker 6: it was like, oh, there's a knock, another one, and
- 26:52Speaker 6: we're going to keep this game going. And Bogey was
- 26:55Speaker 6: right there, made an unbelievable short hot pick, and turned
- 26:58Speaker 6: it into a double play. I mean, a foot, two
- 27:00Speaker 6: feet either way. Two feet either way, that ball's a knock,
- 27:03Speaker 6: and we got action.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I mean, it becomes– if it wasn't straight at him,
- 27:07Speaker 5: he can't go down on his knees to block it
- 27:10Speaker 5: like he did because it then becomes just like, a
- 27:13Speaker 5: backhand one hop where it looks like he's a lay
- 27:15Speaker 5: in it or a forehand one hop that where it
- 27:17Speaker 5: looks like he's a lay in it, but that would
- 27:19Speaker 5: have been his only shot. Like that was a very
- 27:22Speaker 5: sneaky on underrated play.
- 27:27Speaker 2: He loved Murphy's honesty. How about this?
- 27:29Speaker 1: And the end game interview, of course, with Tom Verducci,
- 27:32Speaker 1: Verducci asked him how he liked the approach of his
- 27:35Speaker 1: team up to that point in the game. And as
- 27:37Speaker 1: Murphy started to answer, Sal Freelick hits his line drive
- 27:39Speaker 1: and Murphy's response, take a listen to this.
- 27:41Speaker 7: It's great.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Oh, is that, do we not have it? I'll just
- 27:45Speaker 2: read it for you, which swiftly.
- 27:47Speaker 1: So he says, so Murph's response was, which swiftly shifts
- 27:49Speaker 1: as he realizes the ball is doomed for Merrill's gloves saying,
- 27:52Speaker 1: get in the gap, Sal.
- 27:53Speaker 2: God damn it, Merrill.
- 27:55Speaker 5: It was before he caught it. He called it.
- 27:58Speaker 6: The ball was like, not like halfway in the air
- 28:00Speaker 6: and he dropped that. And we were like, okay, I
- 28:02Speaker 6: guess interview's over. What are we, how do we top that?
- 28:05Speaker 6: But what people don't know, by the way, is he
- 28:08Speaker 6: knows Jackson Merrill very well because his son Kai lives
- 28:11Speaker 6: with him. He lives with Jackson Merrill. So, it's something
- 28:14Speaker 6: Murph doesn't know Jackson Merrill very well. That's his son's
- 28:18Speaker 6: roommate in the off season. They live together. So yeah, it's,
- 28:22Speaker 6: it was just, it was, it was awesome. It was
- 28:23Speaker 6: so Murph. I'm sure he's probably not very happy about
- 28:25Speaker 6: the word choice he used, but it was like such
- 28:29Speaker 6: a awesome thing from Murph and so unplanned and just amazing.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Murph is amazing.
- 28:35Speaker 6: If you haven't talked to Murph, if you get a chance, just,
- 28:37Speaker 6: just talk to Murph for five minutes, you will laugh
- 28:40Speaker 6: and just be amazed at what this guy says.
- 28:42Speaker 5: In a good way. In a good way. He's great.
- 28:45Speaker 5: You talk about Jackson Merrill. I was trying to get
- 28:47Speaker 5: a hold of him because Jose Salas' uncle and I
- 28:50Speaker 5: played together. So I was trying– I mean, Ethan Salas'
- 28:53Speaker 5: uncle and I played together. So I was trying to
- 28:55Speaker 5: get a hold of Ethan. And Kai, Pat Murphy's– Kai Murphy,
- 29:00Speaker 5: Pat Murphy's son, was rooming with him. And I think
- 29:04Speaker 5: it was high A or double A. I'm not sure
- 29:06Speaker 5: if it was last year or the year before that
- 29:07Speaker 5: I was trying to get a hold of him. So
- 29:10Speaker 5: Murph has become the grandfather of baseball right now, and
- 29:15Speaker 5: it's so crazy that it's a team that his son
- 29:19Speaker 5: is in the minor leagues for. So many great storylines.
- 29:24Speaker 5: The Dodgers-Braves series is boring compared to y'all's series.
- 29:28Speaker 6: And by the way, so Kai yesterday was in our
- 29:31Speaker 6: meeting with Murph, and he was in.
- 29:32Speaker 5: Full– Brewer gear.
- 29:34Speaker 6: And I said, you better not go outside, man, Cause
- 29:37Speaker 6: Preller and all the front office people. I'm like, you
- 29:39Speaker 6: better just tell you guys, they know where my allegiance stands.
- 29:42Speaker 6: They know exactly where my allegiance. And I also asked Murph,
- 29:45Speaker 6: I said, Murph, is this a revenge series for you
- 29:47Speaker 6: at the beginning of the series?
- 29:48Speaker 5: He goes, what do you mean?
- 29:49Speaker 6: I'm like, well, didn't the Padres fire you? And aren't
- 29:52Speaker 6: you going to try and get revenge for him? Cause
- 29:53Speaker 6: people forget that Murph managed the Padres for like a month.
- 29:57Speaker 6: And Dave Roberts was his bench coach. Like, It was crazy.
- 30:01Speaker 6: And he's like, I am so thankful for the Padres
- 30:03Speaker 6: for giving me the opportunity. He would, he couldn't have
- 30:05Speaker 6: had a better response. He's like, I get up there
- 30:07Speaker 6: and I had no idea what I was doing. He's like,
- 30:09Speaker 6: I was managing a big league team. I had no
- 30:11Speaker 6: clue what I was doing. And he's like, I had
- 30:13Speaker 6: Dave Roberts who went on to, you know, be a
- 30:14Speaker 6: hall of fame manager. He was my bench coach. He
- 30:16Speaker 6: didn't know what he was doing.
- 30:17Speaker 5: We were every day.
- 30:18Speaker 6: We were having a meeting. Like, how are we going
- 30:19Speaker 6: to get through this day? What's going to happen? And
- 30:21Speaker 6: it's going so fast. I don't know what's going on.
- 30:23Speaker 6: And so he, listen, he could not have been more
- 30:25Speaker 6: thankful for the Padres and the organization for giving him
- 30:28Speaker 6: an opportunity to, to manage at the.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Big league level.
- 30:30Speaker 6: And now he, here he is with the Brewers. And I,
- 30:32Speaker 6: plus there's nothing more fun than making fun of Murph
- 30:34Speaker 6: and being like, Hey, you're back to back. Cause when
- 30:37Speaker 6: we walk into the meeting, he'll say, what do you
- 30:38Speaker 6: guys got? And I'm like, Murph, you're the back to
- 30:40Speaker 6: back manager of the year. Shouldn't you be telling us
- 30:42Speaker 6: what we got? And he just, he just looks at
- 30:44Speaker 6: me and just gives me that evil look of Murph
- 30:46Speaker 6: and just starts laughing.
- 30:48Speaker 7: It's great.
- 30:48Speaker 5: He's the best.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Yeah, he is. He's such a cool dude.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Just a guy's guy, somebody you want to hang out with.
- 30:54Speaker 1: And his honesty and his candor is refreshing. None of
- 30:58Speaker 1: the scripted answers that you typically get from these guys,
- 31:01Speaker 1: you know, game by game, day by day, all of
- 31:03Speaker 1: the things.
- 31:05Speaker 8: The 2026 MLB playoffs are here.
- 31:08Speaker 5: And guess what?
- 31:09Speaker 8: SeatGeek has you covered.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 31:11Speaker 8: If you're looking to go to a playoff game, which
- 31:13Speaker 8: I know everybody is, your favorite team, if they're around,
- 31:17Speaker 8: Go find SeatGeek. They're going to find your best seat
- 31:19Speaker 8: that you can get. If that green light is on,
- 31:22Speaker 8: that means it's the seat to go. If it's red,
- 31:24Speaker 8: that means no. Guess what? There's some big teams going. Kratzy,
- 31:27Speaker 8: tell us about it.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I'm definitely going to a Brewers game. There's no bad
- 31:31Speaker 5: seats in Milwaukee because the stadium is right on top
- 31:35Speaker 5: of the field. It feels like you're in the grass.
- 31:39Speaker 6: And you know what?
- 31:39Speaker 5: If your team lost this year, go get yourself some
- 31:42Speaker 5: concert tickets.
- 31:43Speaker 8: They have it all. And of course we have a
- 31:45Speaker 8: code for you. You can use code territory 10 for 10%
- 31:49Speaker 8: off your next set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10%
- 31:52Speaker 8: off any tickets with promo code territory 10. Make sure
- 31:56Speaker 8: you click the link in the description to download the
- 31:58Speaker 8: app and have the code automatically added to your account
- 32:01Speaker 8: so you can use it later.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Go to SeatGeek.
- 32:07Speaker 1: On the Record is presented by the Fox One app.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Time to welcome on Adam Wainwright, who, of course, is
- 32:13Speaker 1: on the call with A.J. Pruszynski and Adam Amin.
- 32:16Speaker 4: A.J.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Is a hoot.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Adam, it is good to be with you now. What's
- 32:22Speaker 1: been your biggest takeaway?
- 32:23Speaker 5: I have that couch. I have that couch in my room, too.
- 32:26Speaker 6: It's over there.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Are you guys on the couch? Yeah, we are. He's
- 32:31Speaker 5: right over there.
- 32:35Speaker 7: Yeah, we have similar things going on here.
- 32:39Speaker 9: My biggest takeaway so far is that we have two incredibly.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Evenly matched teams that we were trying to figure out
- 32:49Speaker 7: last night. I think the Padres have.
- 32:50Speaker 9: Even won or led more innings than the Brewers have
- 32:54Speaker 9: at this point.
- 32:56Speaker 7: And they're down two games to one.
- 32:58Speaker 9: And those two first games, I mean, like this could
- 33:01Speaker 9: have easily been a sweep for San Diego, right?
- 33:04Speaker 7: It was almost a sweep for Milwaukee.
- 33:06Speaker 9: It's just there's such this teeter-tottering going back and forth,
- 33:09Speaker 9: these two teams. They both are so talented. They both
- 33:12Speaker 9: want it so bad. The other takeaway is that Milwaukee
- 33:16Speaker 9: is relentless. They never stop coming. They have two runners
- 33:20Speaker 9: on base every inning, seemingly. So Walker Buehler is going
- 33:23Speaker 9: to have his hands cut out for him today.
- 33:25Speaker 4: But.
- 33:27Speaker 7: Is that the saying? Hands cut out for him? Work
- 33:29Speaker 7: cut out for him.
- 33:30Speaker 9: But it's going to be a grind on both sides
- 33:34Speaker 9: because both teams are so deep and they both can
- 33:37Speaker 9: beat you in so many different ways.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Hands cut out for you would be a different saying,
- 33:42Speaker 5: but that's fine. I mean, it would be tougher to
- 33:43Speaker 5: pitch with his hands cut out. I'm not sure what
- 33:45Speaker 5: that would be. But since this is going to be
- 33:49Speaker 5: a knock them out, drag them off, whatever it is,
- 33:52Speaker 5: fight for this whole series, is this hurting– whoever ends
- 33:57Speaker 5: up winning this to then go on and play most
- 34:00Speaker 5: likely a rested Dodgers team. Maybe not. I get it.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Your Braves are going to, they're going to, they're going
- 34:06Speaker 5: to make their push too. But yeah, yeah, yeah. We
- 34:08Speaker 5: know you Southern guy. You, you, you love, you love
- 34:11Speaker 5: your Braves. Don't worry about it. But is this going to, and,
- 34:14Speaker 5: and who, which of these teams is more built to
- 34:18Speaker 5: withstand the grind and the, and what it would take
- 34:21Speaker 5: to win the series to then continue on and win
- 34:24Speaker 5: the world series?
- 34:27Speaker 9: Well, I mean, one of the greatest strengths of the Padres,
- 34:32Speaker 9: if not the greatest strength of the Padres, has been
- 34:34Speaker 9: their bullpen all year.
- 34:36Speaker 7: There's some question.
- 34:37Speaker 9: Marks down there right now. I mean, I think Mason
- 34:40Speaker 9: Miller will most likely be back tonight.
- 34:43Speaker 7: We don't know.
- 34:43Speaker 9: We didn't know he was going to be out until
- 34:44Speaker 9: about five minutes before the game last night.
- 34:46Speaker 7: So that was fun. But, you know. with more hone and.
- 34:51Speaker 9: Some of the other guys who have already pitched as
- 34:53Speaker 9: many innings as they have these first couple, I know
- 34:56Speaker 9: there's an off there or whatever, but those innings stack
- 34:58Speaker 9: up and those appearances stack up and those up, down
- 35:00Speaker 9: stack up. And those, that bullpen's been, uh, taxed, um,
- 35:05Speaker 9: seemingly more.
- 35:06Speaker 7: Than the brewers. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
- 35:08Speaker 9: AJ, you can chime in and tell me if I'm wrong, but, um,
- 35:12Speaker 9: I like there's positives about Michael King's already pitched twice
- 35:16Speaker 9: this series.
- 35:16Speaker 7: So you're going to be ready for game five to
- 35:19Speaker 7: pitch a few more. Maybe, I don't know. I mean,
- 35:22Speaker 7: from a pitching side of it, I lean towards, this
- 35:26Speaker 7: is going to.
- 35:26Speaker 9: Sound crazy because the Padres have the greatest closer of
- 35:28Speaker 9: maybe of the last decade.
- 35:32Speaker 7: I lean towards the Brewers side of it.
- 35:34Speaker 9: Jacob Mizraowski is still there if they need him for
- 35:37Speaker 9: game five. From an offensive standpoint, you obviously have some
- 35:42Speaker 9: really bright stars on the Padres side, but Jackson Chirio's
- 35:45Speaker 9: star is as AJ so eloquently alluded yesterday on the open,
- 35:50Speaker 9: is getting brighter and brighter every time we see him swing.
- 35:54Speaker 9: I just think the Brewers are just so tough, man.
- 35:56Speaker 9: They're tougher than I thought, and I watched a lot
- 35:58Speaker 9: of Brewers baseball, and I didn't know that they were
- 36:00Speaker 9: as tough as they are. It's going to be a
- 36:02Speaker 9: big mountain to climb for the Padres, I think.
- 36:06Speaker 5: So, Wano, here's where I want to ask you. I
- 36:09Speaker 5: have two questions for you now.
- 36:11Speaker 6: One, how do the Padres piece together nine innings tonight?
- 36:14Speaker 5: I mean, if.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Walker Bueller doesn't give them three to four. And then
- 36:18Speaker 6: the other thing you said that you think the Brewers
- 36:20Speaker 6: are in better shot. We haven't seen Gasser. We haven't
- 36:22Speaker 6: seen Drohan. We haven't seen Patrick. We haven't seen a
- 36:26Speaker 6: lot of their guys. I mean, they've used Reba. They've
- 36:28Speaker 6: used Dio Hall. They've used Jojo Romero. And they've used McGill.
- 36:31Speaker 6: They haven't used any of their long guys. So they're
- 36:33Speaker 6: basically set up for a bullpen game, which I think
- 36:36Speaker 6: Gasser is going to start. I don't know that. They
- 36:37Speaker 6: haven't told us that. They haven't told anybody that yet.
- 36:40Speaker 6: I have a feeling that it's probably going to be Gasser.
- 36:42Speaker 6: But they haven't used any of their long guys. So
- 36:44Speaker 6: they have plenty of pitching to get through this game.
- 36:46Speaker 6: And then they have the Miz waiting for game five.
- 36:49Speaker 6: How do the Padres get nine innings? I mean, we're
- 36:52Speaker 6: going to talk about this for three hours before the game.
- 36:55Speaker 6: And we'll ask Craig Stammen, but what's the path for
- 36:57Speaker 6: them to get nine innings if Maura Hone's down and
- 37:00Speaker 6: Mason Miller's not back?
- 37:02Speaker 9: Yeah, and I would be surprised if Walker goes very deep,
- 37:06Speaker 9: which means, in my opinion, you're going to see Joe Musgrove,
- 37:09Speaker 9: you're going to see ray you're gonna see i mean
- 37:12Speaker 9: you're gonna have to see some of those uh starting
- 37:15Speaker 9: guys coming in and pitching in roles that maybe they're
- 37:18Speaker 9: not overly accustomed to i mean just they have to
- 37:21Speaker 9: right like you can't i don't know if you can
- 37:23Speaker 9: keep throwing bradley out there i don't know if you
- 37:25Speaker 9: can keep throwing matsui out there like it's just uh
- 37:29Speaker 9: i mean maybe you can and they'll probably answer the
- 37:32Speaker 9: bell but it's a lot to ask of those guys
- 37:34Speaker 9: and each time they step out there the other side's
- 37:37Speaker 9: getting a little bit more familiar with them the other
- 37:39Speaker 9: sides you know i i'm and i'm not taking away
- 37:43Speaker 9: anything from the padres because they can obviously uh they've
- 37:46Speaker 9: been you know they've had their backs against the wall
- 37:48Speaker 9: for most of this year honestly and they keep finding
- 37:52Speaker 9: ways to win games winning yesterday right there with with
- 37:55Speaker 9: their eighth inning guy out and their ninth inning guy
- 37:57Speaker 9: out and and really that locked seven seven through nine
- 38:01Speaker 9: out really um that was impressive i mean that was
- 38:04Speaker 9: a huge win for them obviously.
- 38:07Speaker 5: All right, so 100 years ago when you were a rookie,
- 38:09Speaker 5: you closed out some meaningful games. How different is it
- 38:14Speaker 5: for you? Because you also threw a complete game in
- 38:16Speaker 5: the postseason. How different is it for– I know you
- 38:21Speaker 5: weren't a starting pitcher in the big leagues at that point,
- 38:23Speaker 5: but you felt both. You felt what Michael King felt
- 38:26Speaker 5: in almost going complete game in game one, and then
- 38:30Speaker 5: you felt closing that game out. explain that from a
- 38:34Speaker 5: pitcher's standpoint, not the recovery, not, I know you didn't
- 38:37Speaker 5: do it in the same series, but explain that from
- 38:40Speaker 5: a pitcher's standpoint to us.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 7: Well, and it's not for everyone.
- 38:43Speaker 9: Those last three are different. Um, whether it can't be quantified,
- 38:48Speaker 9: but they just are different. It's it takes, I mean,
- 38:50Speaker 9: last night you saw the Michael King, um, he got
- 38:53Speaker 9: through it, but it was, it was a little chippy there. And, um,
- 38:59Speaker 9: I think that the greatest pitchers that can handle that
- 39:02Speaker 9: role have an ability to minimize what's happening and just
- 39:08Speaker 9: focus on the one pitch that they're trying to make.
- 39:11Speaker 7: And they just do that over and over again.
- 39:13Speaker 9: And the guys that are really great in that ninth
- 39:15Speaker 9: inning situation are the ones that can really use the
- 39:18Speaker 9: crowd also. I really believe that. If it's a negative crowd,
- 39:23Speaker 9: you use it. If it's a positive crowd, you use it.
- 39:25Speaker 9: There's ways to do that. And the guys that can't
- 39:27Speaker 9: handle it, AJ, you've seen it. Kratzy, you've seen it.
- 39:31Speaker 9: Guys that get into big moments, they go, and they
- 39:35Speaker 9: just get a little tight.
- 39:36Speaker 7: Man, you can't be like that in that ninth inning.
- 39:38Speaker 9: So there's a way to, as the great Roy Halladay
- 39:44Speaker 9: used to say, just execute pitches, just one after the other.
- 39:47Speaker 9: And you keep it the same that way. But it
- 39:50Speaker 9: is different, man. But I'll tell you this, for Michael
- 39:53Speaker 9: King going forward, and I know he's had a few
- 39:56Speaker 9: saves before, but these big playoff moments like this, when
- 40:00Speaker 9: you get to pitch in the postseason, you get to
- 40:02Speaker 9: pitch in these closing games in the postseason, is one
- 40:06Speaker 9: of the most adrenaline rush things you could ever imagine
- 40:08Speaker 9: in your whole life. But also, as a starting pitcher,
- 40:12Speaker 9: if you're a really great starting pitcher, you are also
- 40:16Speaker 9: a good closer, right? You want to finish what you
- 40:19Speaker 9: start If you're a great starting pitcher, you're going to
- 40:21Speaker 9: go through. If you go through three times through, four
- 40:24Speaker 9: times through, you're going to have big moments where you
- 40:26Speaker 9: have to, you know, kind of fortitude has to be there.
- 40:29Speaker 9: You have to make a big pitch in a big situation.
- 40:31Speaker 9: You have to get out of a jam or two
- 40:33Speaker 9: every time you start most of the time. And, you know,
- 40:37Speaker 9: that's great teaches for when you get into the bullpen
- 40:42Speaker 9: closer role. And then as a closer, you know, when
- 40:45Speaker 9: you come in and all the pressure's on you, And
- 40:48Speaker 9: you have to make a pitch and you have to
- 40:50Speaker 9: go strike one right away and you can't go out
- 40:52Speaker 9: there and mess around.
- 40:53Speaker 7: And that's also really good for his.
- 40:56Speaker 9: Starting career because then you learn the urgency that is pitching.
- 40:59Speaker 9: You know, it's like it's got to be a race
- 41:01Speaker 9: to 0-2 every time. It's got to be a race
- 41:03Speaker 9: to two outs every time, three outs every time. You
- 41:06Speaker 9: just can't walk people in the postseason. You can't walk
- 41:08Speaker 9: people in the ninth inning. And that's a great teach
- 41:10Speaker 9: for starting pitchers.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Adam, it seems like a lot of babies couldn't wait
- 41:14Speaker 1: until the postseason was over. Some guys taking some paternity leave,
- 41:18Speaker 1: of course. Walker Buehler's wife had her second child, Mason Miller. Obviously,
- 41:22Speaker 1: we're not certain if he's going to be back today.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Max Fried's dealing with it, also with his girlfriend about
- 41:27Speaker 1: to have a baby as well. Has that whole narrative changed?
- 41:31Speaker 1: We were having a conversation earlier, Eric, AJ, and I,
- 41:33Speaker 1: about how back in the day you wouldn't dare leave
- 41:36Speaker 1: your team, certainly not in the postseason for the birth
- 41:40Speaker 1: of your child. It seems guys are changing their approach
- 41:44Speaker 1: a little bit. Is that more of a couple choice?
- 41:47Speaker 1: Is that a team choice? What's been your perception of it?
- 41:52Speaker 9: Well, it does seem like maybe guys need to do
- 41:56Speaker 9: a little better planning with that. You can't always plan
- 42:01Speaker 9: these things, right?
- 42:02Speaker 7: And we don't know the backstory. Maybe they've been trying
- 42:05Speaker 7: for a long time. I don't know. I don't know, right?
- 42:07Speaker 7: We don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 9: But it does seem like, you know, those offseason babies
- 42:11Speaker 9: are pretty, that's a pretty like normal thing for our
- 42:18Speaker 9: generation players. You know, you had a lot of November, December, January,
- 42:22Speaker 9: February babies.
- 42:25Speaker 7: But who am I to speak into that, right?
- 42:29Speaker 9: It does seem like there was an off day two
- 42:32Speaker 9: days ago, right? Like they got meds for that. Now,
- 42:34Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 42:35Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 42:38Speaker 9: But, you know, I know the Padres players were kind
- 42:41Speaker 9: of probably like, huh? But, you know, blessings to Mason
- 42:48Speaker 9: and his family. And hopefully everything came out great.
- 42:51Speaker 7: I don't know. Hi, Max the Bald Eagle from Marathon here.
- 42:56Speaker 7: We asked people if they could do an impression of me.
- 42:58Speaker 7: Have a listen. You can save up to a dollar
- 43:11Speaker 7: a gallon with the Marathon Rewards app. That last one
- 43:16Speaker 7: was pretty good. Marathon, where fun runs on full.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Available at participating Marathon locations. Terms and conditions apply. See
- 43:21Speaker 6: MarathonRewards.com for details. Well, you know, for me, it's a
- 43:27Speaker 6: couple-by-couple decision, right? You can't tell, and to me, it's
- 43:31Speaker 6: also the woman's decision if she wants you there or not,
- 43:35Speaker 6: because if you asked my wife, she would have been like,
- 43:37Speaker 6: get the hell out of the room and go play
- 43:38Speaker 6: the baseball game, right? So, Because I don't want you
- 43:41Speaker 6: here annoying me while I'm going through all this stuff.
- 43:44Speaker 6: So it's a couple-by-couple decision. I don't know what Mason Miller,
- 43:48Speaker 6: what Max Reed, what they're doing.
- 43:50Speaker 5: And it's a personal choice. I get it. You're a child.
- 43:53Speaker 5: You do what you want.
- 43:53Speaker 6: And at the end of the day, the child is
- 43:55Speaker 6: obviously the most important thing in the world. But, yeah,
- 43:59Speaker 6: we were a little shocked last night about 30 minutes
- 44:00Speaker 6: before the game when it came over the loudspeaker that
- 44:03Speaker 6: Mason Miller has been placed on the paternity leave.
- 44:05Speaker 5: We had no idea. at all that he was, that he,
- 44:09Speaker 5: that there was a baby even close. We had no,
- 44:11Speaker 5: we had literally had no clue.
- 44:12Speaker 7: So, I mean, I hope it all, maybe he didn't either,
- 44:14Speaker 7: you know, I don't know. Maybe he didn't either. Maybe
- 44:16Speaker 7: it was in the last second.
- 44:17Speaker 5: I hope he knew that his wife was pregnant. I'm
- 44:19Speaker 5: going to say that.
- 44:19Speaker 6: I hope that he knew that she was pregnant. She
- 44:22Speaker 6: was somewhat close to being due. I would, I would
- 44:25Speaker 6: think that he knew that.
- 44:27Speaker 9: I was telling AJ last night when I was a rookie,
- 44:29Speaker 9: I found out it's, uh, September. I had a baby,
- 44:32Speaker 9: you know, uh, my first child and, uh, And that's
- 44:36Speaker 9: when we realized, oh, we need to have these analyses.
- 44:38Speaker 7: And maybe, hey, look, learn.
- 44:40Speaker 5: A lesson from Mason, too.
- 44:41Speaker 7: Learn the same way. But I found out I was
- 44:43Speaker 7: in Arizona. I was pitching.
- 44:45Speaker 9: I was in the back end of the bullpen at
- 44:47Speaker 9: that time, my rookie year. And I found out right
- 44:50Speaker 9: before the game that my wife was going into labor.
- 44:52Speaker 9: I went to Tony LaRusso. I said, hey, Tony, my
- 44:54Speaker 9: wife's gone into labor.
- 44:55Speaker 7: He goes, cool. You good for the eighth inning?
- 44:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 9: And I actually ended up pitching the ninth inning. I
- 45:02Speaker 9: pitched the last inning. And then Scott Rowland was amazing.
- 45:05Speaker 9: He put me on.
- 45:08Speaker 7: A– no, he didn't. He looked for a flight. Never mind.
- 45:11Speaker 9: I flew to Atlanta from Arizona. And then I flew
- 45:14Speaker 9: from Atlanta to St.
- 45:15Speaker 7: Louis.
- 45:16Speaker 9: And I walked in– as I walked in the delivery room,
- 45:19Speaker 9: my wife was pushing. So I got to take the
- 45:22Speaker 9: snap and barely made it. But, yeah, he was like, congratulations,
- 45:28Speaker 9: you got the ninth inning.
- 45:29Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 45:30Speaker 5: What a story.
- 45:31Speaker 6: What a story.
- 45:32Speaker 5: That is exactly what you said, Alana. It's different, and
- 45:36Speaker 5: that's why I was going to ask you. Tony is
- 45:38Speaker 5: from that different generation. It's definitely there. So you got
- 45:42Speaker 5: there fourth and one. You got the snap. That's good.
- 45:46Speaker 7: I need to ask you. I saw the thing I
- 45:48Speaker 7: needed to see.
- 45:49Speaker 5: That's it. That's it.
- 45:51Speaker 4: That's it.
- 45:51Speaker 5: You were there for the tush-push, Bueno. And now you
- 45:55Speaker 5: have a lot of kids. So yes. And we don't
- 45:57Speaker 5: need to know how the planning goes. So that's to
- 46:01Speaker 5: each person. I got to ask you about the pitching
- 46:03Speaker 5: matchup that happened in the other series, the B Fox game.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Cause you guys have clearly have the a Fox game.
- 46:11Speaker 5: That's that, that pitching starting pitching matchup, AJ and I
- 46:14Speaker 5: are on here almost every day together. And we talk
- 46:17Speaker 5: about starting pitching is important. For a starting pitcher, do
- 46:21Speaker 5: you love to see the marquee starting pitching matchup? And
- 46:26Speaker 5: did that one not disappoint? Or were you like, oh,
- 46:28Speaker 5: I thought it was going to kind of go this way?
- 46:32Speaker 7: Oh, man.
- 46:32Speaker 9: I nerd out about ace pitchers pairing up in the postseason.
- 46:39Speaker 9: In the paper, it doesn't say Churrio versus Machado.
- 46:42Speaker 7: It says Churrio.
- 46:44Speaker 9: King versus Mizorowski or whatever it says, you know, like I,
- 46:47Speaker 9: I love that stuff, man.
- 46:49Speaker 7: And, and, uh, seeing Yamamoto is an absolute killer, especially
- 46:52Speaker 7: in the post is an absolute killer. Chris sale. We
- 46:55Speaker 7: know is an absolute monster.
- 46:57Speaker 9: I mean, this guy's had a complete, uh, reconstruction slash
- 47:04Speaker 9: redevelopment of his career where he's, I think maybe nastier
- 47:06Speaker 9: than he ever was right now. And, and in the
- 47:09Speaker 9: control of the baseball more than I've ever seen him, uh, just, uh,
- 47:13Speaker 9: two of the greatest pitchers of our time right now
- 47:16Speaker 9: going against each other. What Yamamoto did in the postseason
- 47:18Speaker 9: last year is something like I've never seen in my
- 47:19Speaker 9: entire life. I mean, I tell people all the time, look,
- 47:22Speaker 9: if you go eight shutout or whatever it was, one run,
- 47:24Speaker 9: and then the next day you go three to finish
- 47:27Speaker 9: off the World Series, the next day, you don't understand. Like,
- 47:30Speaker 9: the day after you take a playoff start, it feels
- 47:33Speaker 9: like you got ran over by an elephant.
- 47:35Speaker 7: You know, and it should. You know, you should put
- 47:39Speaker 7: it out there like that.
- 47:40Speaker 9: And then for him to take it the next day, uh,
- 47:43Speaker 9: And then he's got a 10-year contract behind it. I
- 47:47Speaker 9: couldn't have been more impressed with him last year. And
- 47:50Speaker 9: then yesterday, he just locked that back in again. He
- 47:54Speaker 9: just showed what a great competitor Yamamoto is. And then
- 47:57Speaker 9: you talk about Chris Sale. I mean, what more can
- 48:00Speaker 9: you say? The first, the wild card series, absolutely disgusting. Yesterday,
- 48:07Speaker 9: strikes out the first six guys. And I told AJ, look,
- 48:11Speaker 9: when you got Number one versus number one, it comes
- 48:14Speaker 9: down to a moment or two in the game. And
- 48:18Speaker 9: that's what the Dodgers said that one great inning where
- 48:20Speaker 9: they popped a couple of homers on him.
- 48:22Speaker 7: And that's really all they did. But that's how it is.
- 48:25Speaker 9: And that's what I love about number one versus number
- 48:28Speaker 9: one because every single moment matters.
- 48:31Speaker 7: And it happens like this.
- 48:33Speaker 9: And then the other guy goes, buddy, that's all I need.
- 48:36Speaker 9: That's all it takes, man.
- 48:39Speaker 7: You gave me two. Oh, you gave me three. Like,
- 48:43Speaker 7: nice knowing it's over.
- 48:44Speaker 9: And as soon as I looked at AJ and AJ
- 48:46Speaker 9: looked at me, once they got down three, three nothing
- 48:49Speaker 9: or whatever it was, we went, that's going to be very,
- 48:52Speaker 9: very tough for them to score three runs off.
- 48:56Speaker 5: True.
- 48:56Speaker 6: By the way, I'd be remiss about asking you this.
- 48:59Speaker 6: Why do you hate the Dodgers? I mean, the Brewers
- 49:02Speaker 6: and the Padres. Why do you hate both teams? Can
- 49:04Speaker 6: you explain why you hate every team that we cover
- 49:07Speaker 6: all the time? It is like constant. I mean, it's
- 49:10Speaker 6: unbelievable how much hate you have for both teams. I
- 49:12Speaker 6: feel like you're kind of saying both teams are great,
- 49:15Speaker 6: but why do you hate both teams?
- 49:18Speaker 9: You showed me a couple of hilarious tweets. Now, I
- 49:20Speaker 9: don't look at tweets. I don't look at them because
- 49:23Speaker 9: it never was good for me. So I've made a
- 49:26Speaker 9: conscious effort to never look at responses. But that is
- 49:29Speaker 9: so on brand for you to get in there and
- 49:31Speaker 9: chum it up with them.
- 49:31Speaker 7: I love it so much about you, AJ, that you
- 49:33Speaker 7: do that.
- 49:34Speaker 9: But he showed me a hilarious one yesterday and said, AJ,
- 49:38Speaker 9: it's really hard to listen to you uh, call this to,
- 49:42Speaker 9: to your whole booth, call this series when you're so
- 49:45Speaker 9: biased for the brewers. And then he, he scrolls over
- 49:48Speaker 9: one tweet and it says, AJ, it's so hard for
- 49:52Speaker 9: me to listen to your booth, call this series because
- 49:54Speaker 9: you're so biased for the Padres. And it was like,
- 49:57Speaker 9: you know, like that's when you know, you're doing a
- 50:00Speaker 9: good job. I looked at AJ and I went, all right,
- 50:01Speaker 9: we're nailing it because if both sides hate you, that
- 50:04Speaker 9: means you're being unbiased.
- 50:05Speaker 4: I think.
- 50:06Speaker 5: That is, that is AJ's like, that is his lane.
- 50:09Speaker 5: If there are both teams fans hating on him, he's like,
- 50:13Speaker 5: I'm going to be the best. All right, Adam, I got,
- 50:16Speaker 5: I got two questions and I can only ask this
- 50:19Speaker 5: because we're doing Fox one right now on every first
- 50:22Speaker 5: question is on every three man team. There's a great
- 50:24Speaker 5: play by play guy, a great analyst and the best looking.
- 50:29Speaker 5: So that's the first question you need. You need to
- 50:32Speaker 5: rate them. Okay. Who's the, who's the best play by
- 50:35Speaker 5: play guy.
- 50:38Speaker 7: Well, Adam Amin is amazing.
- 50:41Speaker 5: Okay. So that's your three. That's one of three. Now
- 50:44Speaker 5: who's the best of the other two? Who's the best
- 50:47Speaker 5: looking and who's the best analyst?
- 50:50Speaker 7: AJ's the best analyst. I'm the best looking.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Okay.
- 50:52Speaker 5: I'll take that. I'll take that. Okay. But now this
- 50:56Speaker 5: is where the rubber meets the road. The toughest question
- 50:58Speaker 5: you'll get all day. Of the three of you in
- 51:01Speaker 5: the booth, who eats the most? Eats the most? Eats
- 51:06Speaker 5: the most.
- 51:07Speaker 7: During the game me for.
- 51:09Speaker 5: Sure because you still have that baby body you still
- 51:12Speaker 5: you're just newly retired aj he has to watch his
- 51:16Speaker 5: calories no that's not true.
- 51:18Speaker 9: Back is what my daughters tell me hey that's not
- 51:21Speaker 9: true i'm a big back a big back okay that's
- 51:26Speaker 9: what my my daughters are like every time i start
- 51:28Speaker 9: eating they're like you're a big back wow uh but
- 51:31Speaker 9: yeah i mean we got a little we got a
- 51:32Speaker 9: little to-go box or whatever full of donuts yesterday they're
- 51:35Speaker 9: little mini donuts right.
- 51:38Speaker 7: AJ had one or two.
- 51:40Speaker 9: And then we got some tacos, like some sushi taco
- 51:43Speaker 9: things brought to us.
- 51:44Speaker 7: And then we had a pretzel. We get so much
- 51:47Speaker 7: food brought to us. It is crazy. I try it all, man.
- 51:50Speaker 9: Like, look, I'll work it off. The other day I
- 51:54Speaker 9: played Aaron Hills. I walked 11,803 steps. You know what
- 51:57Speaker 9: I mean? I'll go to the gym. I'll go to
- 52:00Speaker 9: the gym a couple times a week.
- 52:02Speaker 7: We'll work it off. I'll play some golf. We'll work
- 52:03Speaker 7: it off.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Props not get in the cart, Adam. Props walk in
- 52:08Speaker 2: the course. Proud of you. All right, Adam, I know
- 52:10Speaker 2: you've got to get going.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Another interview awaits for you. Appreciate it. We'll hear you
- 52:14Speaker 1: on the call, certainly. And be sure to check him
- 52:16Speaker 1: out tonight, guys, on the Fox broadcast. And MLB on

- 52:44Speaker 1: Kike Hernandez, guys, now up to 17 homers in the
- 52:47Speaker 1: playoffs during his career. Look at the company that he keeps.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Aaron Judge, Jim Tomey, and David Ortiz. There's just something
- 52:53Speaker 1: about October when it comes to Kike. Kike-tober, if you will. AJ,
- 52:57Speaker 1: I'll start with you. Tell me a player that you've
- 53:00Speaker 1: worked with, played with, whatever, or played against that once
- 53:03Speaker 1: the calendar switched to October, he was just a different dude.
- 53:07Speaker 6: Well, it was David. David was the one guy that was,
- 53:10Speaker 6: since the time I played with him in A-ball, he
- 53:12Speaker 6: lived for those moments. The difference is Kike's in the
- 53:15Speaker 6: playoffs and they make a deep playoff run every year.
- 53:17Speaker 6: And every time he gets up, I love all the
- 53:19Speaker 6: tweets and all the Instagram stuff. Like they put him
- 53:21Speaker 6: in a box and on ice until about the end
- 53:24Speaker 6: of September. And they're like, oh, it's almost October. And
- 53:26Speaker 6: he wakes up and he's a monster in October. So,
- 53:30Speaker 6: I mean, listen, we talked about a little bit with Wano.
- 53:32Speaker 6: Some guys live for these moments. And I'm sure, Crouch,
- 53:35Speaker 6: you played with great players that didn't want to be
- 53:37Speaker 6: up in huge situations. And then you played with this guy.
- 53:41Speaker 6: who was maybe not the best player on the team.
- 53:43Speaker 6: But in those moments, you're like, I want that dude
- 53:45Speaker 6: up to the plate. And Kike is one of those guys.
- 53:49Speaker 5: Even the at-bats, like every at-bat, it just looked like
- 53:52Speaker 5: he was ready to do damage against Sale. Like he
- 53:55Speaker 5: just was catching the ball out in front more than
- 53:57Speaker 5: the guys that were playing every day. I mean, Sale's
- 54:01Speaker 5: never an easy at-bat. And he made it look like
- 54:04Speaker 5: an easy at-bat. And I had to stay and watch
- 54:08Speaker 5: his post-game interview. And it was exactly like that. We've
- 54:10Speaker 5: all seen from Kike the whole time. He's like, kind
- 54:14Speaker 5: of got lucky. Don't really want to talk about it.
- 54:19Speaker 5: But it's not just Kike. The manager put him in
- 54:22Speaker 5: that spot and trusted him. Trust is a huge thing
- 54:25Speaker 5: for confidence.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Brewers have announced finally their starter for tonight. Left-hander A.J.,
- 54:32Speaker 1: you had said it. You guys hadn't even seen Robert
- 54:34Speaker 1: Gasser yet. He's starting tonight in game four. Do you
- 54:36Speaker 1: like this move?
- 54:38Speaker 5: Nailed it, by the way. Nailed it.
- 54:41Speaker 6: Yeah, he was the most effective guy in the second
- 54:43Speaker 6: half for him. If you look at the second half numbers,
- 54:45Speaker 6: Harrison had a great first half, kind of fell off
- 54:47Speaker 6: in the second half. Gasser was really good in the
- 54:49Speaker 6: second half. And listen, they got lots of length. I mean,
- 54:52Speaker 6: they have Harrison, Gasser, Patrick, Drohan. they have lots and
- 54:56Speaker 6: lots of length down there. And, you know, they didn't
- 54:58Speaker 6: use McGill last night.
- 54:59Speaker 5: They use a rebate.
- 55:01Speaker 6: They use deal hall and Romero. So they have lefties,
- 55:03Speaker 6: they have righties, they have their closer. The Brewers pitching
- 55:07Speaker 6: staff is, I mean, if you look at it from
- 55:08Speaker 6: the outside in a much better spot than where the
- 55:11Speaker 6: Padres is, they use King last night. They use Rodriguez again.
- 55:15Speaker 6: They use Matsui again. Is Morajon available? Will Mason Miller
- 55:19Speaker 6: be there? Yeah. I think the, Brewers are in a
- 55:22Speaker 6: much better spot as far as being able to mix
- 55:25Speaker 6: and match with their pitchers. And one thing I've learned
- 55:27Speaker 6: from Pat Murphy over doing these last three games with
- 55:29Speaker 6: him is he likes guys that can give him multiple innings.
- 55:31Speaker 6: He's got lots of those guys to match up that
- 55:34Speaker 6: can get righties and lefties out. And they also have
- 55:36Speaker 6: done this in the past, meaning they've pitched out of
- 55:39Speaker 6: the bullpen in the past. So that gives them an
- 55:41Speaker 6: advantage in some starters who have never done this before.
- 55:44Speaker 5: AJ, obviously you think Gasser starts, then at some point
- 55:48Speaker 5: they go to O'Reilly, then at some point, you know,
- 55:50Speaker 5: if you go back to a lefty and it's not
- 55:51Speaker 5: Ashby yet, do you think Murph puts Harrison in a game?
- 55:56Speaker 5: Or not even do you think he does, more so
- 56:00Speaker 5: what type of situation with a guy that you have
- 56:03Speaker 5: to have a minimum of three batters that has shown
- 56:06Speaker 5: in the second half might not have it, but you
- 56:09Speaker 5: want that one chance of a spark of first half
- 56:12Speaker 5: Kyle Harrison and absolutely blown doors for three outs.
- 56:17Speaker 6: Murphy's going to put him in the best situation. But
- 56:19Speaker 6: what does that mean? I don't know because I don't
- 56:23Speaker 6: know what that's– it depends on the score. The scoreboard
- 56:25Speaker 6: will dictate it. I forgot Ashby didn't pitch last night either.
- 56:29Speaker 6: So they have him available, and he's a multi-inning guy, right?
- 56:32Speaker 6: He can get righties and lefties out. So they have
- 56:34Speaker 6: pretty much all their crew, the brew crew, lined up
- 56:37Speaker 6: to come in and try to finish this series. Listen,
- 56:39Speaker 6: I know this about Pat Murphy. He wants to win
- 56:41Speaker 6: this game and get it over with and move on.
- 56:44Speaker 6: He is going to do everything in his power to
- 56:45Speaker 6: give himself the best matchups and to win this game.
- 56:49Speaker 6: He doesn't want to go back to Milwaukee. He doesn't
- 56:51Speaker 6: want to have to pitch Jacob Mizorowski in game five.
- 56:54Speaker 6: He wants this series over with now, and he will
- 56:56Speaker 6: do everything in his power to get it over with now.
- 56:58Speaker 6: So if Kyle Harrison doesn't pitch, you know what? It
- 57:01Speaker 6: ain't about feelings. We say this all the time. It
- 57:03Speaker 6: ain't about feelings. It's about winning the game. So if
- 57:06Speaker 6: he doesn't pitch, he'll hopefully be ready for the LCS,
- 57:08Speaker 6: but he's going to mix and match and deploy these
- 57:11Speaker 6: guys any way he can to win this game.
- 57:20Speaker 1: All right, guys, let's hit the hot corner as we
- 57:22Speaker 1: dive into the Yankees-Rays game tonight. Aaron Boone said on
- 57:25Speaker 1: Tuesday's off day that he was considering a couple of
- 57:29Speaker 1: things in terms of lineup changes. Eric, do you think
- 57:32Speaker 1: we will see any.
- 57:33Speaker 4: Of those changes?
- 57:35Speaker 5: Man, ever since I asked the question yesterday of Brendan Cuddy,
- 57:42Speaker 5: was that asked of Aaron Boone and it wasn't? I
- 57:45Speaker 5: know Boone is definitely thinking about this. but will he
- 57:50Speaker 5: make the move? And then we watched the Dodgers game
- 57:52Speaker 5: last night where they put Miguel Rojas in, they put
- 57:56Speaker 5: Kike Hernandez in, and the Dodgers win. I think Aaron
- 58:00Speaker 5: Boone needs to make some type of move like that.
- 58:03Speaker 5: And this guy who has loved, the organization has loved
- 58:06Speaker 5: for a long time, our guy who used to play
- 58:11Speaker 5: shortstop for the Yankees, and now he is a second baseman,
- 58:16Speaker 5: and our guy– who's playing second base, and Jazz maybe
- 58:20Speaker 5: had a little bit of a brain fart. So does
- 58:22Speaker 5: he go to Volpe in this spot? I don't know,
- 58:28Speaker 5: but I think it will hinge if the Yankees stay
- 58:31Speaker 5: in this series or not.
- 58:34Speaker 6: I just don't know where he goes. Volpe's really the
- 58:36Speaker 6: only move he can make. I don't know what else
- 58:39Speaker 6: he can do. They're kind of hamstrung by their roster.
- 58:42Speaker 6: What else can he do besides put Volpe in?
- 58:45Speaker 5: I think Jason Dominguez is out. Austin Wells is catching.
- 58:50Speaker 5: Put Goldschmidt in? So that's where I think– I mean,
- 58:53Speaker 5: what are you going to do? Garcia gives them at
- 58:58Speaker 5: bats against a guy like Nick Martinez who throws strikes.
- 59:01Speaker 5: Garcia's issue is he swings at everything, and Nick Martinez
- 59:04Speaker 5: throws everything in the zone. So I think that's a
- 59:07Speaker 5: good matchup, and I love Goldie. in there. I get it.
- 59:11Speaker 5: They've only used him against lefties. A majority of his
- 59:14Speaker 5: success has been against lefties. But if I'm going to
- 59:17Speaker 5: go down and I have to make a change, to
- 59:19Speaker 5: me that's where it is. It's Goldie and Anthony Volpe
- 59:23Speaker 5: in the game. I'm not saying it's the right choice
- 59:25Speaker 5: and that it would work. I'm saying it's a choice
- 59:27Speaker 5: that I would make.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Changing something up.
- 59:31Speaker 1: So far he's used eight lefties and George Lombard Jr.
- 59:34Speaker 1: in the series, but that tilt, guys, that platoon has
- 59:37Speaker 1: not worked. The Yanks have scored just twice, both on
- 59:40Speaker 1: Rice solo home runs. They own a 3-6-9 OPS, and
- 59:44Speaker 1: they are striking out more than they typically do.
- 59:47Speaker 5: Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Just what you were saying there,
- 59:51Speaker 5: it's a lot of lefties. What did we talk about
- 59:53Speaker 5: with the Rays earlier in like a week or two
- 59:56Speaker 5: ago that they use more change-ups than any team normally
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: that neutralizes the platoon advantage, and so they've been using that.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: So maybe it's time to like– and I get it.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: They're throwing some right-on-right, left-on-left changeups too. I understand that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: But you know what? If you keep getting punched with jabs,
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: you got to take a shot. Right now, they got
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: to take a shot at a haymaker and possibly Goldschmidt,
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: a veteran at bat that he's going to give this team.
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: He might not get a hit, but he may work
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: Nick Martinez long enough that another guy gets a hit.
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: Like I just– I'm not seeing enough competitive at-bats, and
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: I think that's what Goldie does. Not as much Volpe,
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: but I think that's what Goldie does, and that's where
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: I feel like something has to change. Not the whole lineup,
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: but just something.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: AJ, do you put Caballero at third instead of Ryan McMahon?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: McMahon right now just one for seven.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: In the series.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Again, nobody's sitting for the Yankees. I'm certainly not putting
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: this all on Ryan McMahon. He did have that blunder, obviously,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: early on in the game, in game two. Is that
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: a change that you would make, or would that even
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: do anything, in your opinion?
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: I don't even think that does anything, to be honest.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: McMahon, they've rode with McMahon the whole year because of
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: his defense.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: He made a mistake. Who cares?
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: Listen, I've booted balls. Everyone's made a mistake here. uh,
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: at some time in their life, uh, as far as defensively,
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: it wasn't like a mental error. It was just a,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: took a funky hobby, messed it up and it happens.
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: Um, I don't think that, I don't think that that's
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: the answer.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: I mean, I think we, I don't, I think we
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: talked about this. Gosh, I've done a lot of talking lately.
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: Um, but when you run a team of all lefties
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: out there and it's lefty, lefty, lefty, and I thought
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: we were talking about with, with Freddie Peralta the other
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: day and how, When you see eight lefties, it just
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: sets your sights in a certain spot, and you know, like,
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: I've got to get locked in. If you're Nick Martinez,
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: you're like, I've got to get locked into my changeup,
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: down and away, constantly to eight guys. I eat out
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: of nine. The only guy that's running up there is
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: George Lombard. And honestly, I mean, I think George Lombard
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: is going to be a great player. I think right
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: now he doesn't really scare anybody in this lineup. It's
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: the lefties you worry about.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: It's Rice. It's even Wells. It's Garcia. It's Cody Bellinger.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: It's those guys that scare you.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: So you think as a pitcher– Man, if I can
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: get myself locked into all lefties and I have to
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: basically just throw in certain lanes, Mark Burley used to
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: say it all the time, teams that threw all righties
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: against him, he's like, I'm going to carve today because
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: I don't have to worry about a lefty and just
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: changing my sights.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I think maybe mixing up would help, but much like
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: the Guardians, they've got to find some way to get
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: some hits.
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: Mm-hmm. The difference is the chance of thump is there,
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: unlike the Guardians. True, true, true. But I get your analogy.
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: To me, the McMahons specifically, that is a different situation.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: That is gold glove defense at third. Did he make
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: an error?
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: Like AJ said, everybody makes errors. It happens. Don't make
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: a rash decision because he made a physical error. To me,
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: my choice of sitting Jazz– To me, that's a mental error.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: That's not a physical error. He went and made an
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: incredible play by barehanding that ball. Okay, that's it. Like
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: McMahon misread the hop or it stayed down on him
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: instead of coming up. I trust, and especially third base,
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: is such a valuable position. As much as short is
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: a valuable position, third base, those plays aren't made. There's
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: a lot of damage down that line. That's why you
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: have guys like Chapman winning platinum gloves, Nolan Arenado. You know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: that value at third is a lot different than just saying,
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: we got to throw someone else in there because we're
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: not hitting. That I think is a different situation.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: You can't take jazz out because you'll hurt his feelings.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: Don't you remember? Don't you remember?
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: If I don't start game one, I'm going to be
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: so upset. Like, dude, it's about winning. And if you're
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: not the right guy to win the game, then you're
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: not the right guy. I mean, But you can't take
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: Jazz out. Don't you put that in Jazz Chisholm's mind
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: that he might not play because.
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: You're going to hurt his feelings, Eric. We're 164 games
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: past that. If that's what it is, it didn't just
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: happen in the playoffs. It didn't just like, sorry, this
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: may be the most glaring difference between the Yankees and
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: the Dodgers. I'm not even going to talk about talent
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: or injuries. I'm not going to talk about that. If
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: that is the case, if somebody's feelings are hurt because
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: they're not playing, This team is cooked anyway. I don't
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: care if it's the Guardians. I don't care if it's
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: the White Sox. I don't care if it's the Yankees,
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: the Dodgers. If your feelings are hurt because you're not
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: playing in the playoffs, your team is cooked because you're
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: hurting your team.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: It's about being selfless versus selfish. That's a conversation for
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: another time. Max Freed, his girlfriend, I believe, is having
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: a baby soon. And he did say that regardless of
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: what happens today, he will be the starter for the
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: New York Yankees. His plan will not change with a
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: baby on the way. I've got a really supportive family
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: that understands that this is my job. and it's not
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: going to affect what happens tomorrow. So kind of circling
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: back gentlemen to the conversation we had with Mr. Adam
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Wainwright earlier, uh, with Fox one, again, this is a
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: personal decision, correct? Uh, I'm assuming he had the conversation
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: with his girlfriend that he's not going to be there
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: tonight if she goes into labor, AJ.
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: I mean, this is a, and again, I'll say this again.
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: This is a, this is more of a, listen, as
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: a guy, we all want to be there.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: I was there for both the birth of my church,
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: both birds and my children.
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: Okay. Um, One was in the off season. One was
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: supposed to be in on an off day. And we
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: ended up having a makeup game.
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: And I remember sitting there watching the game on TV
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: while my wife was giving birth. OK, but and then
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: we had this conversation last night and I asked my wife,
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: I said, hey, if this happened to you, what would
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: you do?
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: And she's like, oh, I'd tell you to go to
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: the game. OK, fine. That's her decision. It's not my decision.
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: I'll be there if you want me to be with
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: it and deliver with you. And that's what I believe.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: Then that's where I'm going to be. If you want me,
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: if you say, hey, go to the game, I'll be
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: okay without you. And, you know, I would, of course, say, no, no, no,
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: I'll be with you. And then she would argue and say, no, no,
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: go to the game. I would go to the game, okay,
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: and play the game. Probably be a little distracted.
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: Okay, fine.
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: But if Max Reed's girlfriend says, hey, you go to
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: the game, and then he has support from his family
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: and his girlfriend who's giving birth, then do it. Mason
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: Miller made a different decision. Again, that's his decision. We
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: can't criticize decisions of family members. in the rest of
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: your life outside of baseball. I know we all want
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: to say, Oh, he should have been there. He should
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: have been this and that, and he should have been
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: there for his team.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: But you know what?
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: He made the decision that he feels is right. Cause
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: you know what he has to do for the rest
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: of his life. Once his baseball career is over, he
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: has to live with his wife and he has to
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: live with his children. So that's a decision that he
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: made as a family. So it's, you can't criticize this.
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: It's the decision that each person makes and it's individual.
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: And it honestly crowds at the end of the day,
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: it comes down to, to the woman who's giving birth.
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: If she wants you there, then you better be there.
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: If she says it's okay, and you feel like it's
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: the right decision with you and your family, then you
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: go to the game.
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: Yes, you do. Because as much as all these guys
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: we're talking about are superstars, when a wife, when a
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: girlfriend is giving birth to your first or your fifth child,
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: they are the superstar. And I'm not saying that Lisa's
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: decision to have you go to the field is different
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: than Max Freed's girlfriend's decision or– Or Mason Miller's wife's decision.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: It is each individual one and there is so much.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: This side is the answer and this side is the answer.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: And you know what? Everybody else in between, zip your
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: lips until you're in that moment. You have no opinion
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: on the people who say go to the field and
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: you have no opinion on the people who who stay
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: and be with their family. That's it. I've seen it
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: so many different ways. I saw a guy, a really
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: good player, his wife gave birth at 10 in the morning.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: He was at the game that night because the hospital
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: was right down the street from the field. The same season,
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: another wife gives birth and he's at the same hospital
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: for three straight days, doesn't show up to the field.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: Both good players, both on the same team, both pushing
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: for The goal of winning a World Series, two completely
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: different choices.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: How I keep thinking in my head is that if
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: she said it's okay to go, every argument, and again,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I'm not in Lisa's mind or in her shoes, obviously,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: but every argument for the rest.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Of time, she's going to be like, remember when you
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: worked at the hospital?
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: No, no.
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: First of all, she would never do that, but I mean,
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: that's why you let her make the decision.
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: It's her decision. If I make that decision and I'm wrong.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: If I make that decision, then she has that right.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: But if she makes that decision, then she's wrong. as
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: soon as she goes down that road, I'm like, Oh, Nope,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: you can't say that because you made the decision.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: I was there.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: But I really wanted you there, even though I said
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: it was okay.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: For you to go. How could you listen to me?
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: You need to know what I'm thinking. My son was born–
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: my first son was born November 22nd, off-season baby. Good
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: for me. Yeah, yeah, whatever. Ohio State was ranked one,
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: and Michigan was ranked two, and they were playing at
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: Ohio State. I lived in Virginia. My buddy's wife was the–
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: woman who would get the coach as they're running off
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: the field to give them the interview, whoever the interviewer was.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: And she said, I have one more spot. You and
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: Christian can come onto the field and you'll be on
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: the field for Ohio State, Michigan, one versus two, epic game.
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: And the game was in November at some point. And
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: our fighter jets were already on high alert that Sarah
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: was going to go into labor at any time So
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: I said, no, I'm not going to maybe one of
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: the most historic college football games that there will ever be,
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: and I will not be on the field for it.
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: That was the right choice.
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: For your family, yes. There's the difference between you and me, Crouchy,
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: because when my son was born was when Florida beat
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Ohio State in the national championship.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: Game in football.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: And my wife, this was mid-January, beginning of January, like
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: January 10th, and my son was born February 5th. So
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: she's about four weeks out and I'm like, oh, our
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: asses are going to Phoenix to watch this game with
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: or without you.
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: And she's like, oh, I'm going.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: So she flew out there and, you know, she gets
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: on the plane.
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: She's like, oh, with the baby. Yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: And the flight attendant's like, what are you doing? She's like, yeah,
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: like three weeks. Like, you know, you're not supposed to
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: be flying. She's like, oh, I'm going to this game.
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: And so we went to the game. There you go.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: That's not the difference between me and you. That's the
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: difference between Lisa and Sarah. Sarah will be like, whatever, football,
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: who cares? Lisa, clearly a diehard Florida fan when she
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: sees all those checks. Even though she went to Florida State, exactly. Wow,
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: you converted her. No, not exactly. Okay.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Individual decision.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Best of luck to all the dads and the babies
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and the mamas bringing the life into the world.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: It's time now to slap hands.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Sarah Langs, the great Sarah Langs, reminding us, gentlemen, that
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: today is Mookie Betts' birthday. Happy birthday to Marcus Lynn Betts.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Number 50 is what, 35, 34? I actually don't even
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: know how old he is, but happy birthday to him.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: It doesn't matter.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: It doesn't matter, right? This will be the fourth time.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: I really don't.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: You probably sent him a birthday card, a birthday present,
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: a cake, everything.
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: That's cute.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: That would imply I would have his home address, and
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I guess I could send it
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: to the field, but I've never done that either.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: This is insane.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: The White Sox Fall Classic Burger looks redonkulous. Two pounds
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: of beef you got, would you? Topped with American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: and squash. AJ, what's squash mayo?
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: Never heard of it, but I guarantee you Adam Wainwright
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: could eat the whole thing.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: In one sitting?
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: I've seen him. Trust me.
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: People are like, you eat a lot. I'm like, have
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: you seen the guy next to me?
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: Right there. He eats a lot.
