- 0:18Speaker 1: We got great players that have proven that they can
- 0:22Speaker 1: play and play well in this league, and for some
- 0:24Speaker 1: for some reason, right now, it's just not all clicking
- 0:26Speaker 1: and we gotta we gotta figure that out. And I
- 0:27Speaker 1: think leading and just it's still in confidence in those guys,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but also, like I said, that sense of urgency of
- 0:33Speaker 1: it's not all right, all right, we're getting to the
- 0:34Speaker 1: point where it's not okay, like it's I get it,
- 0:37Speaker 1: you know, And I'm gonna miss some throws and you
- 0:38Speaker 1: guys hold me accountable. I'm not gonna There's gonna be
- 0:41Speaker 1: plays that I want back. There's you know, three or
- 0:43Speaker 1: four today that I went back where I didn't do
- 0:45Speaker 1: my job, and I expect the coaches to hold me
- 0:48Speaker 1: accountable and they will. And I'm gonna hold the white
- 0:50Speaker 1: outs of tight ends, the running backs to o line
- 0:52Speaker 1: accountable as well for stuff that you know, they're not
- 0:54Speaker 1: doing the best in their job. So we all no
- 0:57Speaker 1: one can get their feelings hurt, and we don't have
- 0:58Speaker 1: guys that do. But we all have to have that
- 1:00Speaker 1: accountability and I think that's the biggest thing, and we
- 1:03Speaker 1: all have to lead in that way of taking accountability
- 1:06Speaker 1: for what we're doing.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Definitely an accountability day for the Jaguars. Welcome to Jagxam.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I'm ka Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Osier with us,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and I don't think any of us expected what we
- 1:16Speaker 2: saw against the Texans expectations and we got to just
- 1:21Speaker 2: get rid of that because this team is somewhere. We
- 1:24Speaker 2: didn't expect them.
- 1:24Speaker 3: To be a walk into my car last night, and
- 1:26Speaker 3: I just kind of flippantly said to somebody, and I
- 1:28Speaker 3: realized it's true. If you'd taken me, if you had
- 1:32Speaker 3: just gotten back from the future right gotten out of
- 1:36Speaker 3: Marty mcflys Stlorean and told me, hey, I've been there.
- 1:40Speaker 3: You know the Jaguars lose this game, and they lose
- 1:43Speaker 3: by twenty points, I wouldn't have believed you. There's no
- 1:46Speaker 3: way you could have told me that a team coming
- 1:48Speaker 3: off a bad week of practice and a loss to
- 1:50Speaker 3: the Super Bowl champs against a Houston Texans team that
- 1:54Speaker 3: was playing with a rookie quarterback and without key players
- 1:57Speaker 3: in key positions would not only win but beat the
- 2:00Speaker 3: Jaguars as thoroughly as they did. I wouldn't have been
- 2:03Speaker 3: able to believe you.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And John, it was every facet of the game as well.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It wasn't you know before we're dragging on the offense,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but it was everybody yesterday.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it was. It was stunningly everybody. I spent last
- 2:18Speaker 4: night answering emails trying to figure out how to explain
- 2:21Speaker 4: it really can't.
- 2:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:24Speaker 4: It felt to me that they played with a lot
- 2:28Speaker 4: of energy early, like I mean very early, and then
- 2:32Speaker 4: when Calvin Ridley had the drop tough catch, but you know,
- 2:37Speaker 4: a guy was brought here to make that play, and
- 2:39Speaker 4: then the field goal and then it went the other way.
- 2:41Speaker 4: It was almost like they were stunned for twenty five
- 2:44Speaker 4: minutes of game time, and then you had the weird
- 2:49Speaker 4: kickoff returning They were getting back into it, I thought
- 2:53Speaker 4: Doug after the game was clearly sort of angry and
- 2:56Speaker 4: maybe a little.
- 2:57Speaker 5: At a loss for what had happened.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I'm not saying a lot they can't figure it out,
- 3:01Speaker 4: but sure a little stunned.
- 3:03Speaker 5: And I think anybody would have been.
- 3:05Speaker 3: No, and I'm gonna start questioning some mental toughness, right,
- 3:07Speaker 3: I mean, it feels and I asked Doug this at
- 3:09Speaker 3: the end of the news conference. That gets between the
- 3:11Speaker 3: years here, right, You could see that when they were
- 3:15Speaker 3: in the huddle or at the line of scrimmage, there
- 3:17Speaker 3: was something missing. And I know I was, you know,
- 3:20Speaker 3: nebulous last week trying to put my finger on it,
- 3:22Speaker 3: but I really I'm gonna say, I think it's time
- 3:24Speaker 3: to start questioning. And I got the sense yesterday that
- 3:26Speaker 3: both Trevor and Doug are questioning everyone around them and
- 3:29Speaker 3: their mental toughness. And Trevor even said of himself, so,
- 3:34Speaker 3: I mean, if it's a matter of confidence, come on,
- 3:38Speaker 3: they should have enough of that. How did they go
- 3:40Speaker 3: from a team who figured out a way to win
- 3:42Speaker 3: at the end of last year, right so many games
- 3:45Speaker 3: where they just figured it out to a team that
- 3:46Speaker 3: all of a sudden doesn't believe they could do it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I don't know. I think that's it. I think it's
- 3:50Speaker 3: a good question. Could be asked all week long, and.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Should It's a fair question to ask as well. Let's
- 3:55Speaker 2: start off with our big things today, cold start. We've
- 3:57Speaker 2: been talking a lot about a fast start, but as
- 3:59Speaker 2: we mentioned that up and Calvin Ridley and things started
- 4:01Speaker 2: to spiral after that, Doug tried to figure out what
- 4:05Speaker 2: went wrong, and you talked about it, posting.
- 4:08Speaker 6: You're seeing you're seeing you know, the drops, you're seeing,
- 4:11Speaker 6: the the turnovers, you're seeing penalties, untimely penalties. You're seeing
- 4:21Speaker 6: flashes of you know, excellence and brilliance and then then
- 4:24Speaker 6: a setback. And it's just the consistency that we need
- 4:28Speaker 6: needs to improve and it's not there right now. You know,
- 4:32Speaker 6: We've got to continue to work and continue to get
- 4:34Speaker 6: better and uh, you know, figure figure some things out.
- 4:40Speaker 2: All credit to the Texans for taking advantage, but the
- 4:42Speaker 2: Jaguars gave a lot of that to them. And it's
- 4:45Speaker 2: got to be extra frustrating when you know you're the
- 4:47Speaker 2: ones making the mistakes and giving away points and victories.
- 4:51Speaker 3: At what point, Yeah, just I mean the drop is
- 4:54Speaker 3: Doug you said, I mean he was brought here to
- 4:56Speaker 3: make that catch, and that's a catch that an eleven
- 4:58Speaker 3: million dollar receiver aspirations of being a twenty million dollar
- 5:02Speaker 3: receiver in the future. Those guys make that catch. And
- 5:05Speaker 3: then and then how about here's one that people think
- 5:07Speaker 3: it forgotten. How about on third and short in your
- 5:09Speaker 3: midfield on the Jaguars second drive where you have trevis
- 5:13Speaker 3: Or traps Travis and Trevor colliding in the backfield. I mean,
- 5:17Speaker 3: you have a chance to get a first down here
- 5:19Speaker 3: and keep the momentum going. And when does that happen?
- 5:22Speaker 3: I mean just it made almost no sense and it
- 5:25Speaker 3: just kept going and spiraling out of control.
- 5:28Speaker 4: The strange and it takes a while to get to
- 5:30Speaker 4: this stat but against Kansas City last week, five times
- 5:33Speaker 4: past the fifty and the first half, six points. Yesterday
- 5:37Speaker 4: four times past the fifty and the first half and
- 5:39Speaker 4: no points. You had the fumble at the end of
- 5:43Speaker 4: the half, the sheriff hands to the face that took
- 5:45Speaker 4: away the fourth down. When you felt like they were
- 5:47Speaker 4: getting back into it, they were scoring positions two field goals.
- 5:49Speaker 4: You know, you don't get those six points early on
- 5:53Speaker 4: the field goal attempts, and guess what if you have
- 5:57Speaker 4: those when the kick return goes the other ways, eight
- 6:00Speaker 4: point game instead of fourteen. It all those things matter
- 6:03Speaker 4: and to not get points, I think Trevor said they
- 6:08Speaker 4: didn't have a three and out, so the offense didn't
- 6:13Speaker 4: feel like it couldn't do anything. It was just when
- 6:15Speaker 4: it would get going all of a sudden, you know,
- 6:18Speaker 4: mistake here and weird. But you can talk about it
- 6:23Speaker 4: meat individually, but then the reality is you got to
- 6:27Speaker 4: look at as a trend because it's happening every.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Week, and for me this week, I think special teams
- 6:31Speaker 2: surprised me a lot. For you know, missed kick, blocked kick,
- 6:35Speaker 2: the fullback return, which we'll get to in the second block,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and ridiculous. I don't even have words for that still,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but I think just to see mistakes where we haven't
- 6:43Speaker 2: seen them before, it's building on itself in the wrong direction.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Well, you kept waiting, I know I did. I kept
- 6:48Speaker 3: waiting for someone to put their foot down and something
- 6:51Speaker 3: to change, right, because that's what we had seen from
- 6:55Speaker 3: this team. And of course I havent Ingram said in
- 6:56Speaker 3: the locker room after the game. You know, we're not
- 6:59Speaker 3: the same team. We can't just assume that we're gonna
- 7:01Speaker 3: be the same team. Okay, well they proved that yesterday.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Now they're not the same team that they were when
- 7:05Speaker 3: last season ended. And you know, if I'm sitting here
- 7:08Speaker 3: questioning again saying, why couldn't they turn things around? If
- 7:11Speaker 3: they're doing that two totally different things, that's an issue.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Well, I think you did have a foot down moment
- 7:17Speaker 4: at the start of the second half, and then the kickoff.
- 7:21Speaker 4: It's funny, it's gonna go down. It's me of most
- 7:24Speaker 4: players to get replayed. I understood that maybe even a
- 7:27Speaker 4: little more than the two misses in the first half,
- 7:30Speaker 4: because it was one of those weird plays where all
- 7:32Speaker 4: a sudden, the balls on the ground and then everybody
- 7:33Speaker 4: sort of collapses and he just popped outside and it
- 7:36Speaker 4: became a numbers thing.
- 7:38Speaker 5: It was.
- 7:38Speaker 4: It was not good, but it was kind of one
- 7:41Speaker 4: of those fluky things where you're like, okay, that it
- 7:43Speaker 4: was a break that went against him, I thought more
- 7:45Speaker 4: than you know, but.
- 7:48Speaker 3: That it went against them on a day where everything
- 7:50Speaker 3: was going yeah. I mean, they couldn't get momentum back.
- 7:52Speaker 4: The block kicks and the miskicks in the first half.
- 7:58Speaker 4: My guess is that that bothers them more than the
- 8:02Speaker 4: return did. I'm talked maybe about that, but that would
- 8:04Speaker 4: be my guess.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I think that kick reaturns just timing, which was really tough.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh not.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Big thing Number two for us is the trenches. We
- 8:12Speaker 2: talked last week about the offensive line being a concern
- 8:14Speaker 2: for this team, but the defensive line struggled yesterday as well,
- 8:18Speaker 2: and Dog talked about how you got to fix things
- 8:20Speaker 2: on the line.
- 8:22Speaker 6: We have to do better. We have to do better
- 8:25Speaker 6: starts up front, starts with the offensive line on offense,
- 8:28Speaker 6: starts with the defensive line on defense. It starts right there. Again,
- 8:32Speaker 6: I'm gonna say this again. We need to coach better,
- 8:35Speaker 6: we need to play better, We need to execute better.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Whether we are reading our press clippings. We need to
- 8:45Speaker 6: get out of our own way right now. We need
- 8:48Speaker 6: to evaluate ourselves, beginning with me, and we gotta figure
- 8:57Speaker 6: out how to win the game.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Are hard. Look in the mirror moments Doug mentioned both lines,
- 9:02Speaker 2: offensive and defensive line, and you feel like it's affecting
- 9:05Speaker 2: people around the lines as well. Like Trevor doesn't necessarily
- 9:09Speaker 2: look totally comfortable in the pocket, the defense is not
- 9:12Speaker 2: in the same place as the cornerback's trying to deal
- 9:16Speaker 2: with the line. It's just I don't know if I
- 9:18Speaker 2: have the words right. They had a backup line trying
- 9:21Speaker 2: to figure it out as I talk.
- 9:22Speaker 3: But I'm just they had a backup lift tackle, a
- 9:24Speaker 3: backup lift guard, a backup center, and their number two
- 9:27Speaker 3: right tackle in the game, and the Jaguars couldn't get
- 9:30Speaker 3: enough pressure right the pass rush yet flip side right,
- 9:34Speaker 3: they were playing with a that is an average group.
- 9:37Speaker 3: No longer are those the JJ Watt Texans that dominate
- 9:41Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage. That's not a powerful group. And
- 9:45Speaker 3: I kept thinking, as I looked all week long last week,
- 9:48Speaker 3: here's where the Jaguars win this ballgame. John. They're gonna
- 9:51Speaker 3: win it up front, which will give Trevor time to
- 9:54Speaker 3: be able to calm down and get the passing offense
- 9:57Speaker 3: into some sort of a rhythm, and the defense should
- 9:59Speaker 3: be able to eight turnovers. Because I thought yesterday they
- 10:02Speaker 3: would win up front. That's where I sit here this
- 10:04Speaker 3: morning and go, Okay, who is this team?
- 10:06Speaker 5: Yep?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Because that's not the team I expected to see on
- 10:09Speaker 3: the lines.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's what made it so odd to try
- 10:12Speaker 4: to analyze because.
- 10:15Speaker 5: They had.
- 10:17Speaker 4: They had some runs stop for the most part, they
- 10:20Speaker 4: ran with power I thought the Jaguars did, and that
- 10:22Speaker 4: felt early on like they were enforcing their will at times.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Usually that turns into a game long with time, and
- 10:33Speaker 4: then he had time and then they would have moments
- 10:37Speaker 4: where they would have three first downs and a drive
- 10:38Speaker 4: E Tam would run well and then and then the
- 10:41Speaker 4: drive dies of the thirty five.
- 10:43Speaker 5: So it was this weird.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Probably when you go back and look at film, there
- 10:48Speaker 4: will be a bunch of players where they go, Okay,
- 10:49Speaker 4: good stuff, and then at the end of the film session,
- 10:53Speaker 4: but why didn't we win? You know, so some games
- 10:57Speaker 4: are very easy to figure out. This one was a Again,
- 11:00Speaker 4: I felt like I was copy and paste him from
- 11:02Speaker 4: the week before because I just wrote missopportunities and mistakes,
- 11:06Speaker 4: and that's what this team is right now for last
- 11:07Speaker 4: two weeks.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Well, and it's worth noting you're playing without maybe your
- 11:10Speaker 3: best offensive lineman and Cam Robinson. Okay, he wasn't playing
- 11:13Speaker 3: that well in August, but he is a highly paid
- 11:17Speaker 3: left tackle and a guy who's played at a high
- 11:19Speaker 3: level before. And on defense, you're playing without Devon Hamilton,
- 11:22Speaker 3: who they just paid because of what he is able
- 11:25Speaker 3: to do. So both those guys are sitting. I guess
- 11:27Speaker 3: if you're looking for some ray of sunshine here in
- 11:29Speaker 3: the opening of the show, it's that next week we
- 11:31Speaker 3: can talk about how you can make some changes to
- 11:33Speaker 3: the offensive line. You can get Cam back, you can
- 11:36Speaker 3: move Walker inside, you can put Tyler Shatley in at
- 11:38Speaker 3: center if he's ready to go. Physically, I think the
- 11:41Speaker 3: center is a problem for them right now. I think
- 11:43Speaker 3: Luke Fortner is going backwards more often than he's going forwards,
- 11:46Speaker 3: and that's troubling for a guy that you expected to
- 11:48Speaker 3: take a step forward this year after starting all nineteen
- 11:51Speaker 3: games last year. At least you can talk before Buffalo
- 11:56Speaker 3: about moving some guys and improving normally. At this time
- 12:00Speaker 3: end of the year, John Help is not on the way.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I mean, you don't have a lot of options. There's
- 12:03Speaker 3: not someone on the street that's going to come in
- 12:05Speaker 3: and save you. But the Jaguars do with Cam Robinson
- 12:08Speaker 3: coming back in a week.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yeah, the offensive line is a little bit more of
- 12:11Speaker 4: a thought for me than the defense wasn't good yesterday.
- 12:15Speaker 4: The defensive line wasn't good yesterday. They weren't bad the
- 12:19Speaker 4: first two games though.
- 12:20Speaker 5: So I.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Don't I doubt that they're ready to sort of throw
- 12:24Speaker 4: in the towel in huge trade time.
- 12:29Speaker 5: I think it fed the narrative people had.
- 12:31Speaker 4: In the off season and it's a bad defensive line,
- 12:33Speaker 4: but it didn't play that way the first two weeks.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So let's see the next week or so that how
- 12:39Speaker 4: it goes. The offensive line so far has been I
- 12:43Speaker 4: thought it'd be better, Yeah, I did.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Our third big thing today is what was that? Because
- 12:49Speaker 2: as we mentioned some of them already. There's more than
- 12:51Speaker 2: a few plays in this game that just you know,
- 12:53Speaker 2: had you scratching your head. For me. A lot of
- 12:55Speaker 2: them were the penalties and some of the special teams
- 12:59Speaker 2: as well. But Trevor talked a little bit about what
- 13:02Speaker 2: went wrong in that game on Sunday.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You never want that to be the case. And it
- 13:08Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I mean, I'll say this, like, it doesn't
- 13:10Speaker 1: matter who you play, when you play, where you play.
- 13:14Speaker 1: If you don't execute and you do stuff like.
- 13:16Speaker 3: That, you won't win a game. You won't beat anybody.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And the way we play today, it's like we just
- 13:20Speaker 1: can't expect to win playing that way. And there just
- 13:23Speaker 1: has to be there has to be some give. There
- 13:25Speaker 1: has to be an insurgency. It's just it's not okay
- 13:28Speaker 1: to make the same mistakes that we've been making, to
- 13:30Speaker 1: do to have the dumb penalties, to have the the
- 13:33Speaker 1: bad place, to throw a pick, you know, and lay
- 13:35Speaker 1: in the game like I did, Just to do stuff
- 13:37Speaker 1: like that, it's like, it's not all right. You know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: we all have to look in the mirror, take accountability,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, take that and own it and move on.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Mistakes are fine, Repeated mistakes are the problem here, and
- 13:49Speaker 2: we're seeing you know, penalties really at the line making penalties,
- 13:53Speaker 2: the offensive line making penalties as Trevor when you shouldn't
- 13:56Speaker 2: have been thrown that ball.
- 13:57Speaker 3: How about Brandon McMahon, it's missing, I mean field goal.
- 14:00Speaker 3: It was well within his range, ess and.
- 14:02Speaker 2: He's brought in for his you know, he's a veteran kicker.
- 14:04Speaker 3: That was the point right and Kyle he missed it?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Why did? It was never going to go in. That's
- 14:09Speaker 3: when I turned to somebody. I went, oh boy, this
- 14:12Speaker 3: thing is going out of control. We're talking to Marcus Stroudt,
- 14:15Speaker 3: the three time Pro Bowl defensive tackle. It's like, how
- 14:17Speaker 3: does he miss that? Right? That's when I knew this
- 14:20Speaker 3: thing is still not in the right rhythm. It's not
- 14:23Speaker 3: in the right groove. Something's wrong.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Yeah it again. I go back to that first drive
- 14:27Speaker 5: and it was almost.
- 14:30Speaker 4: To me maybe I hate psychoanalyzing a team like this
- 14:34Speaker 4: because things happen during the game that we can't see.
- 14:37Speaker 4: But you come out and you have all this energy,
- 14:41Speaker 4: you get a good stop defensively early, and then you
- 14:45Speaker 4: have a play where the quarterback puts it right where
- 14:47Speaker 4: he had to put it with your big time playmaker
- 14:49Speaker 4: there on the goal line. If he catches that, that's
- 14:52Speaker 4: all over the highlight shows, right, that's what Sports Center
- 14:58Speaker 4: play for. Rhydic, doesn't it misses that? And then all
- 15:01Speaker 4: of a sudden, to me, there's a feeling, well, we
- 15:05Speaker 4: gave it our best shot, and that shouldn't be that
- 15:08Speaker 4: feeling at that point, But that was a feeling I had.
- 15:10Speaker 4: As soon as Texans went down and scored. You said, uh, seven,
- 15:13Speaker 4: nothing feels like a big deficity. It shouldn't feel like
- 15:16Speaker 4: that big of a deficit against that team yesterday.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Well, here's why we're left to psychoanalyze, because they had
- 15:21Speaker 3: a bad week of practice by their own admission, before
- 15:23Speaker 3: the World Champs came in at the home opener, had lost.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Then by all accounts, they had a good week of
- 15:29Speaker 3: practice getting ready for a Texans team that we've just illustrated.
- 15:35Speaker 3: It's new, it's young, and it's injured, and they lost.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I'd explained it, right, I mean, how do you explain
- 15:41Speaker 3: some of those plays? And that's why we're left to say, Hey,
- 15:45Speaker 3: what's going on up here.
- 15:47Speaker 2: We're gonna do our best to do just that. We'll
- 15:49Speaker 2: be back after the break to go over the tape
- 15:51Speaker 2: what went down on Sunday. Move the Freight, Move the Freight,

- 16:12Speaker 1: Last year's gone, Last year's done. There's a great, great season,
- 16:16Speaker 1: there's a great ending, great run that we went on.
- 16:19Speaker 1: But one, we want to accomplish more there. We feel
- 16:21Speaker 1: like there's a lot more for us. And two, this
- 16:23Speaker 1: is a different team. This is a different season. Obviously
- 16:26Speaker 1: hasn't started the way we wanted. And I think that's
- 16:29Speaker 1: one thing is we can't expect to We can't expect
- 16:31Speaker 1: the ball to just bounce our way every game. We
- 16:33Speaker 1: can't put ourselves in seventeen point holes and expect that
- 16:36Speaker 1: we're just gonna figure it out, because it's it's hard
- 16:38Speaker 1: in this league and you're not gonna be able to
- 16:40Speaker 1: do it every week. And of course that we believe it,
- 16:42Speaker 1: and halftime, you know we're in there seventeen nothing and
- 16:45Speaker 1: we got no doubt we're gonna go win this game.
- 16:46Speaker 1: We're gonna find a way. And we started off good
- 16:48Speaker 1: and then ended up obviously not playing well. But it's
- 16:51Speaker 1: just it's not feasible to do that every week, and
- 16:54Speaker 1: we gotta we can't wait until our backs against the
- 16:56Speaker 1: wall to make a play.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Welcome back to Jags, Trevor addressing something up in Ingram
- 17:01Speaker 2: said in the locker room, which was this ain't last year.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Were don't bring that up again. This is not that team.
- 17:08Speaker 2: And I think after what we saw on Sunday, that's
- 17:10Speaker 2: pretty clear. Yes, all right, we're gonna go over the
- 17:13Speaker 2: video now, so we'll start off with that Ridley drop
- 17:16Speaker 2: in early on in the game, and it was it
- 17:19Speaker 2: really did John. I know you've said it a couple
- 17:21Speaker 2: times at this point, but just why was there so
- 17:23Speaker 2: much focus on just trying to get out that early
- 17:26Speaker 2: and then when it didn't work out that one possession,
- 17:29Speaker 2: it was like things just went off after that.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Well why I wish I knew, but that's what it
- 17:33Speaker 5: felt like.
- 17:34Speaker 4: You had a bad week offensively the week before three
- 17:37Speaker 4: field goals, he hadn't scored, so again it felt like
- 17:42Speaker 4: it was almost, okay, let's put that behind us.
- 17:44Speaker 5: And then when you didn't put it behind.
- 17:45Speaker 4: You, you sort of compounded it by giving up a
- 17:51Speaker 4: quick drive. So now you're seven to nothing. And I
- 17:53Speaker 4: always go back, I never played baseball at a high level.
- 17:56Speaker 4: But when you're in the World Series and you're down
- 17:58Speaker 4: two games, no, everybody's trying to hit a home run.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Sure swaying for the fence. That's what it has felt
- 18:03Speaker 4: like a little bit. Maybe they would say they weren't pressing.
- 18:06Speaker 4: They pressed the week before, and it felt after that
- 18:09Speaker 4: it was the same game in the first half, So
- 18:12Speaker 4: I would sort of assume that some of the things
- 18:15Speaker 4: that some of the same things were going on in
- 18:17Speaker 4: terms of that pressing.
- 18:19Speaker 5: That's what it sure looked like after the Ridley play
- 18:21Speaker 5: in the first half.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Well, since I'm doing my best Freezer Ukraine impression these
- 18:24Speaker 3: days and trying to psychoanalyze this team, I do believe
- 18:27Speaker 3: that if he catches that ball and they score and
- 18:30Speaker 3: go up seven to nothing on their first drive, totally
- 18:34Speaker 3: different time, totally game right that right there was the
- 18:39Speaker 3: moment that I went oh, and I think it's the
- 18:41Speaker 3: moment they went oh. And they couldn't turn it around.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Because we disagree with you.
- 18:45Speaker 4: But in the nineteen forty NFL Championship, this was when
- 18:48Speaker 4: I was born, Kink, the Bears won seventy three nothing.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Sammy both throws a pass early who was a quarterback
- 18:55Speaker 4: of Washington at the time. There's a pass early gets
- 18:58Speaker 4: lost in the sun. I think was Cliff Battles drops it.
- 19:00Speaker 4: They asked Sammy about after the game had been different.
- 19:03Speaker 4: He goes, yeah, it would have been seventy three cents.
- 19:06Speaker 7: Well, right, okay, but that's a little bit different than
- 19:10Speaker 7: this scenario. But I way to stick it to the
- 19:12Speaker 7: people who are watching, who might be Broncos fans today,
- 19:16Speaker 7: that's the highest scoring game in the NFL history.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Broncos fans, they know, they're familiar with McManus, who had
- 19:21Speaker 2: some issues in Denver and we was brought in here
- 19:24Speaker 2: as a veteran kicker, but he had some issues. On Sunday,
- 19:26Speaker 2: missed that field goal after the Ridley drop and then
- 19:29Speaker 2: he had his other field goal attempt blocked. And I
- 19:32Speaker 2: think for Doug talked a lot about bringing that veteran presence,
- 19:36Speaker 2: the point of it being so that you don't feel
- 19:38Speaker 2: you have to go for it and fourth down you're not.
- 19:39Speaker 2: You can rely on the special teams, and it's not
- 19:42Speaker 2: a great way to start.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I didn't think that the lack of confidence or the yips,
- 19:48Speaker 3: if you want to use a golf reference extended to
- 19:51Speaker 3: special teams. I figured three nothing or yeah, three nothing
- 19:54Speaker 3: at that point. All right, got some points, let's go.
- 19:57Speaker 3: I do think John you mentioned that they've been in
- 20:00Speaker 3: the Chiefs and Texans territory what nine times, and had
- 20:05Speaker 3: six points to show for it.
- 20:06Speaker 5: But that's in the first half. I didn't want to
- 20:09Speaker 5: count the second half because that was okay.
- 20:10Speaker 3: How can this offense, you know, knowing what's there from
- 20:15Speaker 3: a talent standpoint, how can they cross the midfield and
- 20:18Speaker 3: have any confidence right now? They They need something good
- 20:22Speaker 3: to happen, this being one of them. If they could
- 20:25Speaker 3: have gotten miss field and obviously that's not McManus's fault
- 20:28Speaker 3: that it got blocked, but it was his fault that
- 20:30Speaker 3: he missed that first one and didn't help his team.
- 20:33Speaker 2: We do want to talk about that one chance. The
- 20:36Speaker 2: first score of the game was set up by a
- 20:38Speaker 2: PI penalty because we thought it was going to continue
- 20:41Speaker 2: to go that way because Calvin wasn naven all cup
- 20:43Speaker 2: up with that ball in the end zone. There was
- 20:44Speaker 2: pass interference on that call, and then it ended up
- 20:46Speaker 2: being a one yard run in from there. But it
- 20:49Speaker 2: almost felt like that was going to happen again. Because
- 20:52Speaker 2: penalties can bail you out at times, and that's what
- 20:54Speaker 2: that was. And fortunately they were able to get a
- 20:57Speaker 2: score out of that, but then they just couldn't build
- 20:59Speaker 2: off of it. Wasn't a drive where you felt like
- 21:01Speaker 2: you earned it and you built off of it. It
- 21:03Speaker 2: was kind of like, oh, well we got points, but
- 21:05Speaker 2: we don't have any confidence coming off of it.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Well, I was I think a lot of people were
- 21:08Speaker 3: probably thinking about that Chargers Wild Card game with the
- 21:10Speaker 3: Jags trilled twenty seven to seven at the end of
- 21:14Speaker 3: the half, and I was interested, anxious to see how
- 21:17Speaker 3: they would come out and answer, and I was not surprised.
- 21:20Speaker 3: They went down the field and got that touchdown with
- 21:22Speaker 3: the help of the penalty. I thought Doug had those guys,
- 21:25Speaker 3: you know, ready to come out, you know, and they
- 21:27Speaker 3: scored ten quick points yep, right, But then another phase
- 21:32Speaker 3: of the game lets them down, whether it was defense
- 21:34Speaker 3: or special teams, you know, Christian Kirk gets his touchdown,
- 21:37Speaker 3: and then they give up the Tank Dell touchdown. I
- 21:38Speaker 3: mean just every time it seemed like something good was
- 21:41Speaker 3: going to happen, something bad happened.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it would have been interesting, you know, and if
- 21:47Speaker 4: if had they not given up that kickoff return. Yeah,
- 21:52Speaker 4: the defense had played okay. On that first drive of
- 21:56Speaker 4: the second half, there was a drop that gave him
- 21:58Speaker 4: the first down to beget.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Off the field.
- 22:01Speaker 4: It felt, frankly, a lot like the four or five
- 22:04Speaker 4: games at the end of the last season around here
- 22:06Speaker 4: where they came back and you're standing in the locker
- 22:07Speaker 4: room saying, well, you know, I don't know that even
- 22:10Speaker 4: with the win, it had been a great feeling because
- 22:12Speaker 4: there was so much that had gone weird, But it.
- 22:15Speaker 5: Felt like one of those games.
- 22:17Speaker 4: But I think I think Trevor said it best. When
- 22:20Speaker 4: you're down seventeen, the problem is one thing goes against you,
- 22:26Speaker 4: and now you're back down in the hole.
- 22:28Speaker 5: You give yourself no margin for air.
- 22:29Speaker 4: And I wrote and thought a lot after last season
- 22:33Speaker 4: about this team needed to get out of those situations
- 22:37Speaker 4: where they had no margin for air because you can
- 22:39Speaker 4: only live on that ledge so long, and right now
- 22:42Speaker 4: they're on the wrong end of the ledge.
- 22:44Speaker 3: If you will, you said more than one yesterday, Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 3: they got to get out of their own way.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Let's talk about that kick, because that was one of
- 22:49Speaker 2: the weirdest things I've ever seen. The ball bounces around,
- 22:51Speaker 2: fullback gets it in his hands and then.
- 22:53Speaker 3: A twitter and fifty five pounds fullback. Are you kidding me?
- 22:56Speaker 2: John? Is that just something where when that goes wrong
- 22:59Speaker 2: right there, when they're just see the ball on the ground,
- 23:01Speaker 2: does everybody is it discipline? Do you need to stay
- 23:04Speaker 2: where you are?
- 23:04Speaker 5: Is it just like discipline? And it's hot? I think
- 23:08Speaker 5: I had not talk to Heath fall Off the game
- 23:10Speaker 5: about it, but.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Your instinct, I would think as a player takes over
- 23:15Speaker 4: when the ball is on the ground, Hey aere, we
- 23:16Speaker 4: go get the ball and then he picks it up
- 23:18Speaker 4: and he's he's sort of around one guy and everybody
- 23:21Speaker 4: else has bad angles.
- 23:22Speaker 5: You then had the kicker.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Trying to be a little bit the last line of
- 23:26Speaker 4: defense probably didn't take a great angle. But when you're
- 23:29Speaker 4: depending on the kicker, that's it. It's not good at
- 23:32Speaker 4: the point you're in trouble. And then and then Durnest
- 23:34Speaker 4: I can't quite catch it. I think it was a
- 23:36Speaker 4: bunch of little circumstances conspiring.
- 23:40Speaker 5: To create a really weird play.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Again, as I said earlier, I sort of get why
- 23:45Speaker 4: it happens, because you have the fumble and that sort
- 23:48Speaker 4: of takes everybody here, and then he bounces out here,
- 23:53Speaker 4: I texted.
- 23:54Speaker 3: I texted with a former Jaguars special teams coordinator who's
- 23:58Speaker 3: a buddy of mine. Last night. We were going back
- 23:59Speaker 3: and forth and I asked him if he had to
- 24:00Speaker 3: watch the play, and he said, yeah, tough deal. You know,
- 24:03Speaker 3: lost containment on the outside. There's two guys who were
- 24:06Speaker 3: supposed to be responsible for that, but so many guys,
- 24:10Speaker 3: you know, ran and went after the ball. And you
- 24:12Speaker 3: see Jacob Harris just out of control, run right by.
- 24:16Speaker 3: He could have broken down and made the tackle and
- 24:19Speaker 3: he ran right by the return man. Just I mean,
- 24:23Speaker 3: what now you see him retrace his steps, but he's
- 24:26Speaker 3: too far behind at that point. It was it was
- 24:28Speaker 3: a momentary lapse of reason. Right everybody saw that ball
- 24:32Speaker 3: hit the ground. It was like blank, go get it.
- 24:34Speaker 4: But you're sort of coached from the time you're five
- 24:37Speaker 4: years old, ball out, ball out, and then you're going
- 24:39Speaker 4: after it.
- 24:39Speaker 3: So it's but some guys are coached to go and
- 24:42Speaker 3: maintain discipline and stay where you are. It's called containment.
- 24:46Speaker 3: And the coach I was texting with last night said,
- 24:48Speaker 3: tough deal. You know, that's gonna be a hard one
- 24:51Speaker 3: for Heath to explain, but it's easy to see what happened.
- 24:54Speaker 2: We'll go on to that after to Christian Kirk's touchdown,
- 24:57Speaker 2: because at this point, all right, you're like, we are
- 25:00Speaker 2: running out of time and they're going to do something.
- 25:02Speaker 2: They go down the field old stand by Trevor to
- 25:05Speaker 2: Kirk get a touchdown. I can't remember score at this point,
- 25:08Speaker 2: but it was seven seventeen. You were then ten again.
- 25:11Speaker 2: It's within reach again, and.
- 25:14Speaker 5: With ten minutes left to plays, love.
- 25:16Speaker 2: To play well within reach with if you're gonna be
- 25:19Speaker 2: hustle after that, and then to immediately after this, give
- 25:23Speaker 2: you a give yourself a little bit of hope, and
- 25:25Speaker 2: then immediately switch over to the Tank Dell touchdown after that,
- 25:28Speaker 2: it was it was a tough sequence there.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Well, at this point again John was talking earlier about
- 25:33Speaker 3: you kind of feel like it's, you know, last year's Jaguars,
- 25:36Speaker 3: you know, the Texans all of a sudden showing some
- 25:38Speaker 3: vulnerabilities in the secondary that's missing a couple of key players,
- 25:41Speaker 3: and you.
- 25:41Speaker 5: Feel good about it.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And then here on third down, Tank Dell is wide open.
- 25:46Speaker 3: It looked to me like Darius Williams made the wrong move.
- 25:49Speaker 3: I mean, Trey Herndon was in that one of those
- 25:51Speaker 3: two guys blew the coverage and Tank Dell it couldn't
- 25:54Speaker 3: get any easier. The rookie must just think that this
- 25:56Speaker 3: NFL game is easy because yesterday catch for sure.
- 26:02Speaker 2: When you when you look at this, it's is it
- 26:05Speaker 2: mental lapses here as well or is it just that
- 26:08Speaker 2: a coverage score?
- 26:08Speaker 3: Well that's look, I mean, it could be both. But
- 26:10Speaker 3: that's where you start second guessing and trying to make
- 26:13Speaker 3: a play, or you're not paying attention because you're so
- 26:17Speaker 3: focused on it's thirty three, right. That's where the anxiety
- 26:20Speaker 3: factor comes in. And guys, you know, they longtime coaches
- 26:25Speaker 3: believe that if you have guys who get anxious and
- 26:27Speaker 3: key moments, they can't function at a high level. So
- 26:30Speaker 3: here you've got some anxiety on the part of one
- 26:32Speaker 3: of those two players, perhaps, and they melt down and
- 26:35Speaker 3: forget the responsibility and both go after the guy in
- 26:38Speaker 3: the flat and Tank Dell runs by himself. And that's
- 26:41Speaker 3: Tank Dell who beats you for forty eight yards in
- 26:42Speaker 3: the first half. You would think you would somebody would
- 26:45Speaker 3: look and say, hey, I got him, Yeah, but they didn't.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Yeah. It seemed more communication than anything.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Yeah, not communicating because they're not thinking as clearly as
- 26:58Speaker 3: you'd like them too.
- 26:59Speaker 2: All right, stay with us here on jag Zam. Coming up,
- 27:01Speaker 2: we got some hot takes and they may be a
- 27:03Speaker 2: little bit hotter than usual this week, so we'll see

- 27:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's I think that's real.
- 27:30Speaker 6: I do. I think that's real.
- 27:34Speaker 5: And and.
- 27:36Speaker 6: You know, you know, I've been around this game too
- 27:38Speaker 6: long to know that you can't can't live in the past,
- 27:41Speaker 6: or you're gonna you're gonna fail in the future. And
- 27:45Speaker 6: you know, we've just got to focus one.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Day at a time.
- 27:47Speaker 6: We got to get better each day and can't worry
- 27:50Speaker 6: about next week or the week after, can't worry about
- 27:52Speaker 6: the London trip coming up. We can't, you know, we
- 27:54Speaker 6: just got to focus in on on the week at hand.
- 27:57Speaker 6: And and you know that that that part it starts
- 28:00Speaker 6: with me and making sure that the guys are you know,
- 28:04Speaker 6: hearing that message. You know, allowed them to clear for me,
- 28:06Speaker 6: and we'll make sure that they get that message.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I cannot rely on the past, and last year's team
- 28:13Speaker 2: is not this year's team. Welcome back to Jags am
- 28:15Speaker 2: in the Hundai Studios presented by Carshield. Today, we're going
- 28:18Speaker 2: to get to our hot takes because things are not
- 28:21Speaker 2: where we expected them to be. So, Brian, what's your
- 28:23Speaker 2: hot talk? Now?
- 28:23Speaker 3: I'm going to go back to the past because it
- 28:25Speaker 3: looks to me like this team is relying offensively way
- 28:29Speaker 3: too much on Calvin Ridley, and I would like to
- 28:32Speaker 3: see them go back to what was working for them
- 28:33Speaker 3: last year, which was Christian Kirk Evan Ingram. I know
- 28:37Speaker 3: Zay Jones is injured. He could be back this week,
- 28:39Speaker 3: likely against the Bills. Put Calvin Ridley, if you have to,
- 28:42Speaker 3: into Zay Jones' role, but it just my sense is
- 28:47Speaker 3: they are forcing the ball to him. He's there, eleven
- 28:49Speaker 3: million dollar guy, he's done that game breaking guy. It
- 28:51Speaker 3: didn't work and he had a tremendous first half against
- 28:54Speaker 3: the Colts, and then since then it's been disappointed and
- 28:58Speaker 3: maybe he's not ready for it yet, and maybe they
- 29:00Speaker 3: were all just assuming, well, he was so good in
- 29:02Speaker 3: training camp and so good in the preseason that he'll
- 29:05Speaker 3: just jump right into it. Maybe he needs more time
- 29:07Speaker 3: to be ready to go after being off for more
- 29:10Speaker 3: than a year and a half. I say put him
- 29:13Speaker 3: on the side, right, make him your second or third option,
- 29:16Speaker 3: not your first, and take the offense back to where
- 29:18Speaker 3: Trevor was clearly comfortable last year and everything seemed to
- 29:22Speaker 3: work better. It just feels to me like they're forcing
- 29:24Speaker 3: that issue because they've got him, and that if you
- 29:26Speaker 3: want to get this offense, which right now you could
- 29:28Speaker 3: call jumpy, skittish, discombobulated, choose your adjective. Calm everything down,
- 29:34Speaker 3: do what you know. Works to me, that's Christian Kirk
- 29:36Speaker 3: and Evan Ingram in zig jumps.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Yeah, it's funny.
- 29:39Speaker 4: I thought they maybe tried to calm it down a
- 29:41Speaker 4: little bit. I said earlier. The way they were running, yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 4: is usually the formula forgetting things calm, And that's what
- 29:49Speaker 4: was sort of weird. I went back and watched the
- 29:52Speaker 4: game this morning, and it was a weird imbalance to
- 29:56Speaker 4: that where hey, we could run they six seven yards
- 29:59Speaker 4: on first down and usually that's where you, hey, hey,
- 30:01Speaker 4: get things going.
- 30:02Speaker 5: I agree with Calvin.
- 30:05Speaker 4: I don't know if it's as much rust as much
- 30:08Speaker 4: as just this incredible desire to do it right, which
- 30:13Speaker 4: maybe that's russ I don't know, but I think he
- 30:15Speaker 4: wants so much to excel and so much to succeed
- 30:20Speaker 4: and feels like he can and you just you know,
- 30:24Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't disagree. Something along the lines
- 30:26Speaker 4: of getting the Christian back to where he's sort of
- 30:31Speaker 4: the guy. Uh maybe an element of that.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Well, take what worked for you and add to it,
- 30:36Speaker 3: as opposed to redefine it with Calvin, which is what
- 30:39Speaker 3: it feels like they have done because we know what
- 30:41Speaker 3: these other guys are capable of doing. And again, I
- 30:44Speaker 3: don't know whether it's rust or not either, but it
- 30:45Speaker 3: does feel like Calvin wants to score on every single
- 30:48Speaker 3: play and that's just that's not the way this offense works.
- 30:51Speaker 3: And I do agree the running game should normally bring
- 30:53Speaker 3: everything back down to earth a little bit, but this
- 30:55Speaker 3: is a past first team, So from a passing perspective,
- 30:59Speaker 3: I think Kirk and Grimmer the.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Way to go, and it's about setting the offense up to
- 31:02Speaker 2: be successful and Calvin up to be successful because he
- 31:05Speaker 2: is that deep threat. He's dropping balls for some of
- 31:08Speaker 2: these catches, but he's always double covered, so somebody else
- 31:11Speaker 2: has to be open at this point. And yes, we
- 31:13Speaker 2: do expect war from him because we know he's physically
- 31:15Speaker 2: able to make crazy catches in that situation, but he
- 31:18Speaker 2: should be more wide open when we're throwing to him,
- 31:21Speaker 2: especially when he's in a new offense like Trevor and
- 31:24Speaker 2: those guys have been here, Calvin has not. So yes,
- 31:27Speaker 2: we know he can do crazy things, but this is,
- 31:29Speaker 2: you know, a couple games into a new regime.
- 31:30Speaker 3: And then there's also the added value of the offensive
- 31:33Speaker 3: line is not giving him time. And there was Christian
- 31:36Speaker 3: Kirk wide open right on a third down in the
- 31:39Speaker 3: third quarter and he didn't have time to deliver it
- 31:41Speaker 3: because Sheldon Rankins was bearing down on him. So Kurt
- 31:43Speaker 3: Hinnisch was he mistake? Who? Kurt Hinnisch looked like Howie
- 31:47Speaker 3: Long yesterday?
- 31:49Speaker 2: Oh, there's lots of things going on. His mom's gonna
- 31:51Speaker 2: call you know you can, John, what's your hot take for?
- 31:55Speaker 5: You don't want to turn which with Sunday is in
- 32:00Speaker 5: and it's a little worrisome.
- 32:04Speaker 4: Week three is starting to get to that point in
- 32:07Speaker 4: the season where teams have game planned you it can
- 32:11Speaker 4: be sort of what is coming up? And this felt
- 32:15Speaker 4: like a game in a lot of ways where it
- 32:18Speaker 4: was a wheels off game. I don't think that's what
- 32:20Speaker 4: that is for this team, I believe, particularly because of
- 32:25Speaker 4: Doug Peterson. He has been so good in his career
- 32:28Speaker 4: even when teams go through a bad stretch. Think about Philly.
- 32:31Speaker 4: I mean his last two playoff appearances in Philly, they
- 32:34Speaker 4: fought and scratched and clawed their way through the NFCS
- 32:37Speaker 4: and made the playoffs last year.
- 32:39Speaker 5: Very similar.
- 32:40Speaker 4: He knows how to coach in this situation where things
- 32:43Speaker 4: are sort of going squirrely and I think there's too
- 32:48Speaker 4: much I hate saying this, too much talent for that
- 32:51Speaker 4: to happen. But it is a game that felt like
- 32:55Speaker 4: if things go off the rails, you look back and go, Okay,
- 32:57Speaker 4: there it was.
- 32:59Speaker 5: I don't think that's what it was.
- 33:00Speaker 4: But they have to really focus now to not have
- 33:03Speaker 4: that be that game.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Hey, look, you can go and find championship caliber teams.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Tom Coughlin's first Giants Super Bowl team, where there was
- 33:09Speaker 3: some infighting and things weren't feeling good and they turned
- 33:14Speaker 3: it around, made the playoffs as a wild card, and
- 33:16Speaker 3: won the Super Bowl. Great teams have had difficult moments
- 33:20Speaker 3: like this. We have yet to see whether that will
- 33:22Speaker 3: happen here. But you have faith in Doug Peterson because
- 33:25Speaker 3: he's been here before that he can get this thing
- 33:27Speaker 3: turned around, and faith in the quarterback because you know
- 33:30Speaker 3: what he's capable of doing. It's just I think people
- 33:32Speaker 3: are anxious about it because, like I thought this was
- 33:35Speaker 3: supposed to be different. We all thought this was supposed.
- 33:38Speaker 5: It's fair to be Doug said yesterday, this is gonna
- 33:41Speaker 5: be criticism, and it's.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Fair sometimes you know, the triumph is on the other
- 33:44Speaker 3: side of the university. Sure, and hopefully that's the case here.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Is that we look back at this and go, do
- 33:49Speaker 3: you remember when we thought this thing was coming apart
- 33:52Speaker 3: and the wheels were falling off and they turned it around.
- 33:55Speaker 2: We'll see for me, this is when culture comes into key, right,
- 33:57Speaker 2: Culture and character. You talk about culture. It's easy culture
- 34:00Speaker 2: when you're winning and things are on the upside. But
- 34:02Speaker 2: when you know things get hard, you're gonna see the
- 34:04Speaker 2: true character of people. And I think we all have
- 34:07Speaker 2: faith about this building. The culture is real and I
- 34:09Speaker 2: think they will be able to turn it around, but
- 34:11Speaker 2: it's a very telling if they can't, because you think
- 34:14Speaker 2: you building a good culture and things don't go the
- 34:16Speaker 2: way you want, and then oh maybe I don't have
- 34:18Speaker 2: the same kind of culture character as I did beforehand,
- 34:21Speaker 2: So that will be a big deal. My hot take
- 34:23Speaker 2: is about the physicality of this football team. I don't
- 34:25Speaker 2: think they've been tough enough. And I think that goes
- 34:27Speaker 2: mentally and physically, but physically, I just wanna see them
- 34:30Speaker 2: hit some people right the travisy Tan and Tank are
- 34:32Speaker 2: probably the only people I say think are as physical
- 34:34Speaker 2: as they need to be right now. The defense has
- 34:36Speaker 2: been playing above caliber, but yesterday they just didn't do
- 34:40Speaker 2: what they needed to do. And that goes to the
- 34:42Speaker 2: offensive line as well. We know that's an issue for
- 34:44Speaker 2: this team. They need to be tougher. They need to
- 34:45Speaker 2: protect Trevor and I think the wide receivers as well, everybody,
- 34:49Speaker 2: no one's exempt. The coaching as well. They need to
- 34:52Speaker 2: figure out a way to toughen them up. And I
- 34:54Speaker 2: don't know how you do that. If it's if it's
- 34:55Speaker 2: if it's I think it's within them. But is is
- 34:59Speaker 2: that something physical that needs to change. Is it a
- 35:01Speaker 2: mentality for this team? Is in football? Can it come
- 35:07Speaker 2: down to just being not tough enough fit points?
- 35:09Speaker 3: I think to me, just to take a derivative of
- 35:12Speaker 3: what you're saying, is it's a mental toughness issue. You know,
- 35:14Speaker 3: when you get into the third quarter and all right,
- 35:16Speaker 3: you know, now you're only down you know, seventeen ten,
- 35:21Speaker 3: you know, that's when you have to sharpen up. That's
- 35:24Speaker 3: when every little detail matters. And you can't have a
- 35:26Speaker 3: five yard penalty that takes third and one to third
- 35:29Speaker 3: and six. You can't have a drop pass, you can't
- 35:32Speaker 3: have mistackles, and they did not do a good job
- 35:35Speaker 3: in key situations. In fact, the specific situation was on
- 35:39Speaker 3: that seven yard run that set up the third down
- 35:41Speaker 3: and three play. They had Damon here's at the goal line.
- 35:47Speaker 3: They had them a yard behind, and they let him
- 35:49Speaker 3: squirt through for six yards on first down. You can't
- 35:52Speaker 3: have that. That's where the toughness issue comes in. And
- 35:55Speaker 3: you can go, well, that's physical toughness because the act
- 35:57Speaker 3: of getting him on the ground, but it's also a
- 35:59Speaker 3: mental toughness and rallying to the ball and pulling, bite
- 36:03Speaker 3: and scratching whatever it takes to get that guy on
- 36:04Speaker 3: the ground for a short game, not to set up
- 36:07Speaker 3: that big deep shot.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't see.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I thought the running early to me showed more quote
- 36:15Speaker 4: toughness on the offensive line.
- 36:16Speaker 5: Maybe we'd seen.
- 36:18Speaker 4: I always hesitate to question physical toughness because it's you know,
- 36:21Speaker 4: it's such a physical game that I think most guys
- 36:24Speaker 4: are tough, and I think that's the I go with
- 36:27Speaker 4: more the Maybe it is mental toughness in the big moments,
- 36:32Speaker 4: just that that inability to make the.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Big play when it matters. It's what the league's about.
- 36:39Speaker 4: And when you're playing like they are right now, then
- 36:42Speaker 4: you're not doing that in those moments.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Well, we all know athletes, no matter the sport, right
- 36:46Speaker 3: who in the biggest moment rise to the occasion. And
- 36:49Speaker 3: that's not every athlete is that way. You need a
- 36:53Speaker 3: couple of guys who are that way, and that's what
- 36:55Speaker 3: this team needs to get through that mentality of oh,
- 36:57Speaker 3: this is when it's tough, Well let's go. This is
- 36:59Speaker 3: what we're paying for, right.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Have to thrive in the moments when if things are
- 37:03Speaker 2: the hardest. All right, stay with us. We'll preview the
- 37:05Speaker 2: rest of this week coming up after the break Man

- 37:25Speaker 2: recognize Jee's frontline team and the game winners and give
- 37:28Speaker 2: a special shout out to Jea's commercial accounts team. I
- 37:32Speaker 2: feel a little bit differently about how the Jags should
- 37:34Speaker 2: address things this week. I think last week I was like,
- 37:37Speaker 2: all right, watch the film, but move on quickly. I
- 37:39Speaker 2: feel this week they really need to sit in it,
- 37:40Speaker 2: marinate in it, feel what this is, and figure out
- 37:43Speaker 2: how to fix it and start over, because you can't
- 37:46Speaker 2: just continue on the way things are going right now.
- 37:48Speaker 3: I wish they had the plane ride today, right, Yeah,
- 37:51Speaker 3: I mean eight hours sitting on a plane with nothing
- 37:54Speaker 3: to do and still within that twenty four hour rule, right,
- 37:56Speaker 3: because you want guys to let it go. I don't
- 38:00Speaker 3: think they're gonna be able let it go. I mean,
- 38:01Speaker 3: I think they can talk about moving on as much
- 38:03Speaker 3: as you want, but I think everybody individually is going
- 38:06Speaker 3: to be questioning themselves to some degree, what can I
- 38:11Speaker 3: do better? How do I do my job better this week?
- 38:18Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 38:18Speaker 4: I think Trevor sort of defined it in his post game.
- 38:21Speaker 4: He went back to the theme a couple of times, saying,
- 38:23Speaker 4: you know, we're to the point where it's not okay,
- 38:26Speaker 4: And I think that was more of a message maybe
- 38:28Speaker 4: to himself, maybe to everybody that, look, we keep talking about.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Playing big in these moments. At some point you got
- 38:35Speaker 5: to do it.
- 38:36Speaker 4: And it's it's not okay to be the one guy
- 38:41Speaker 4: out of the eleven who comes off the field and
- 38:43Speaker 4: says my bad. And that's sort of a juvenile way
- 38:47Speaker 4: of saying it. But you know, it's not hey, we
- 38:50Speaker 4: need all eleven now, guys, it's we're one and two
- 38:54Speaker 4: and this wasn't good enough.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Until they show they're not. This is what they are.
- 39:00Speaker 5: So let's go to London.
- 39:02Speaker 2: This is ah we w we are heading to London
- 39:07Speaker 2: later this week. This is certainly gonna be a defining game,
- 39:09Speaker 2: and it's up to them whether it's a defining moment
- 39:11Speaker 2: that they turn around or a defining moment and they
- 39:14Speaker 2: continue on this way. We'll go over things some more
- 39:16Speaker 2: on Wednesday here on jags Amne. We'll see you then.
