Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #109 - Should We Stop Saying Christ Is King?
Transcript
- 0:00Should we continue using the phrase, Christ is king?
- 0:04Are we allowed to do that? I don't know if you've heard, but lately there has
- 0:08been this whole uproar of people using that phrase, and some people have co-opted
- 0:14that phrase and are using it in a pejorative,
- 0:18terrible way, and they're just taking it out of context, ripping it out of context,
- 0:22and trying to use it for their own purposes of anti-Semitism, you know?
- 0:27Some people take good things and they make them bad.
- 0:30We're going to take a look at this. My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution.
- 0:34Let's dive into it. So recently, and this completely went under the radar for
- 0:39me when I was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast.
- 0:42He had Jordan Peterson on there and Jordan Peterson was talking about psychopathic
- 0:47parasites on the right side that have basically infiltrated and they're taking
- 0:55their platform and using it for terrible purposes.
- 0:58And I wasn't thinking about who he's talking about.
- 1:01Fast forward to Tim Pool taking a look at this show and he interprets it and
- 1:06he sees it that Jordan is specifically targeting Candace Owens.
- 1:11And they've had their whole infighting of the, and they're falling out together
- 1:16of Jordan Peterson and Candace Owens.
- 1:17But Candace Owens uses the phrase Christ is King, you know, and a lot of people out there use it.
- 1:23I see it, people throwing it
- 1:24out their own X Christ is King hashtag Christ is King or Christ is King.
- 1:28And I use it myself. I will use it. I, but I'm, I'm not using it and meaning
- 1:34it at all in a, a way against Jews or a way for antisemitism.
- 1:41And I know, I know in any, you have to be aware, you got to read the room of
- 1:45the situation of what's happening and kind of take it from there.
- 1:50But just to, if people want to start taking our choice of words and trying to
- 1:55use it and flipping it, we got to be smarter than that.
- 1:59We got to be wiser than that. And they don't, people cannot just,
- 2:02because somebody is using it in a terrible way, they can't just control how
- 2:07we are using that phrase. Christ is king.
- 2:10And I have nothing but mad respect for Jewish people.
- 2:15And it says the gospel came to the Jews first and then to the Gentiles. I am not on board at all.
- 2:21And this is what probably, if you really look at it, this throws me under the
- 2:25bus with a lot of Christians.
- 2:27I am not involved at all and believe in at all replacement theology.
- 2:33I don't believe the church replaced Israel.
- 2:38I don't think that suddenly Jesus came along after thousands and thousands of years.
- 2:42And then now we got the church and everything's new.
- 2:46Israel's cast aside and none of that matters anymore. No, the gospel came for
- 2:51Israel first, and then it came to the rest of the world.
- 2:55We are along for the ride. If you're of the nations, if you are not Jewish,
- 2:59you are along for the ride.
- 3:00Thank God you were allowed to be brought in to the kingdom because it was the
- 3:06sole focus of all of scripture was about the Jewish people and the Jews accepting
- 3:13and being saved through their Messiah coming into the world.
- 3:17That's why it was such a struggle for the apostles to get on board.
- 3:20How do people that are not Jewish, how are they inherited the kingdom of God
- 3:25when all the promises are to Israel?
- 3:28All right, but that's an aside we're going to look into right now of Jordan Peterson.
- 3:33He's talking about, he uses that, he's talking about, and Tim Pool thinks he's
- 3:38talking about Candace Owens, and he is talking about Candace Owens in certain contexts.
- 3:42But let's see what Candace Owens, she said, and then how Tim Pool,
- 3:46he is starting to defend Candace Owens because they have their whole,
- 3:50their, their, their friends and all that, you know?
- 3:52So there's this infighting, but I think we can get, we understand that people are people.
- 3:55This is just played out live for all of us to see, which is,
- 3:59it's very interesting, you know? So this is Tim pool.
- 4:02He's talking about Candace using that phrase.
- 4:05And what he gleans from it and how we should be receiving it as well.
- 4:10This is the problem I'm having with this.
- 4:12Candace Owens has, as far as I know, never used the phrase Christ is king to
- 4:18insult somebody, to troll somebody.
- 4:20We had talked about this on Timcast IRL because she had used it in reference
- 4:24to, I think, Bridget McCrone being accused of being a man.
- 4:27And some people said, why do hashtag Christ is king in that post?
- 4:31And it was because it was part of a larger thread having to do with the argument of some sort.
- 4:37Like, it wasn't just that she said, Bridget McCrone is a man,
- 4:39Christ is king. And people were like, why would you do that?
- 4:41It was actually part of a longer thread. Say what you want about Candace Owens.
- 4:44The thing that I find abserting about that argument immediately was,
- 4:47I'm like, even if you think Candace Owens is a psychopath who's pretending,
- 4:51she is nowhere near stupid enough to walk into something as dumb as that. Okay.
- 4:57More importantly, I don't think she's trolling anybody. but I think Candace
- 4:59genuinely is saying Christ is king. I totally agree with Tim here.
- 5:04You know, Jordan Peterson and Candace Owens, they have their own thing going
- 5:08and they're going to reconcile.
- 5:09You know, in this internet age, they're going to come together.
- 5:14They're going to talk this out.
- 5:16Jordan Peterson is a man that likes to have conversation and likes to talk through things.
- 5:22Candace Owens, she's a Christian, you know, and I don't know all of her viewpoints
- 5:28on everything, You know, but Christianity can be taken in a terrible way.
- 5:33We obviously know that any religion can be taken in a terrible way,
- 5:37but you can't judge the belief structure and the whole focus of the religion
- 5:42based on people that are playing it wrong, that are doing it wrong.
- 5:46So they're going to come, they're going to talk this through,
- 5:48but just the phrase Christ is king.
- 5:52I will proudly say Christ is king because he is.
- 5:56And people that want to take over and try to make me say that I can't say that
- 6:02because I am suddenly a Nazi for saying that because I'm against Jewish people or I'm anti-Semites.
- 6:11We got to be smarter than that. We got to be able to not allow people,
- 6:15not allow to bow the knee to people, to just these people that want to control everything that we do.
- 6:20You know, of course people are going to do things wrong,
- 6:24but it's the thing about the way to fight back against bad speech is always
- 6:31more speech and better speech and clarifications and anything can be used for a terrible purpose.
- 6:37And it obviously is in certain circumstances.
- 6:40I don't think Candace Owens is at all using it in an anti-Semite anti-Semite way.
- 6:46She's saying because she is a Christian. She's saying Christ is king.
- 6:49That is, that's the truth, you know, but I, I do also come from the,
- 6:54the, the viewpoint that I understand just the name Christ that can, because,
- 6:59and so for so many years, it was used in a bad way to go after people that were
- 7:05Jewish, even early on, you know, that was, we, Christians did a lot of terrible
- 7:10things to Jewish people.
- 7:12I would not say the Nazis were at all Christian, you know, Anybody can take
- 7:16on the name, but there were a lot of true,
- 7:18genuine Christians early on in church history that did a lot of terrible things
- 7:22to Jewish people because they wanted to make sure to get that Judaism out of
- 7:28them, get it completely out of them.
- 7:29You are on the new side. This is the new era. This is the new man.
- 7:34All that stuff of the past, that is done away with.
- 7:37So it just takes a wisdom and being able to discern what the context people
- 7:43are using it in, but I'm not going to back down from saying it.
- 7:47And you might completely disagree. I will, I will tweet it. I will say it.
- 7:52Christ is King, you know, cause it's the truth. So I'm, that's my reaction to
- 7:57this whole thing about people saying, you cannot say that we got to be stronger than that.
- 8:02We got to have more wisdom than that. And we got to have more speech to battle
- 8:06and fight against people that are misusing things and taking things in a terrible way.
- 8:10You know, of course, people are going to do that. But just we can't allow them
- 8:15to control the ability for Christians to announce the truth and the reality
- 8:20that we we got to suddenly say,
- 8:22like, and that's not like for me, like I want to say, if you want to say, I love you, I love you.
- 8:28So suddenly that becomes I hate you. Every time you're saying I love you becomes
- 8:32I hate you. words mean things, words mean things.
- 8:37So when we are saying, I love you, it is what it is.
- 8:41If we're saying there's not this undertone, there's not this below the surface.
- 8:45And if people are doing it, you can, no matter how much I want to,
- 8:49I can't judge someone's heart.
- 8:51I don't know what is really going in, going on in their heart and on in their
- 8:55mind when they're saying things, we can only say that by what the words they're
- 9:00using and their actions.
- 9:03You know, give people the benefit of the doubt and not just look at people and
- 9:07say, you are, you are evil by using a phrase, the sweetest phrase in the world, Christ is King.
- 9:14So I don't know if you agree with that, you know, let me know.
- 9:18But if you disagree, if you think I'm way off basis, I would love to hear it.
