- 0:00The Mets lose their star player, they lose their star closer.
- 0:04The Mets are in a bad spot right now.
- 0:12I've never seen a Ranger team quick before the Olympics.
- 0:15We're going to be looking at Aaron Judge and saying that he
- 0:17can't win the big game, Michael Jordan said.
- 0:20I played 8 engine games. You don't see the fun doing
- 0:23that, but Jack Hughes did after getting his teeth knocked down
- 0:26to play every single shift he got back in the game.

- 2:28His name is the Nith, the PR man himself.
- 2:31And also we have a couple interns.
- 2:33We got Zoot in the background as far as I see right now, and
- 2:37we'll have all the other guys a little bit later in the show.
- 2:39So a lot to get into tonight. We have the championship game,
- 2:44NCAA tournament, UConn versus Michigan for all the marbles.
- 2:49Is it UConn? And I'll say this again, what
- 2:53Danny Hurley has done has been remarkable.
- 2:56If he wins another national championship, that'll be 3 and
- 2:59four years. The last person we've seen this
- 3:02is who? Speedy.
- 3:03Who do we remind? John Wooden.
- 3:05John Wooden, one of the greatest NCAA coaches, if not the
- 3:08greatest NCAA coach of all time, not even Coach K Roy Williams.
- 3:13Any of these guys is none of them have done it like Danny
- 3:18Hurley has. It's it's a remarkable,
- 3:21remarkable story. If you think about what Danny
- 3:23Hurley was as a college player, as a basketball player, He
- 3:26wasn't Bobby Hurley, who won two national championships.
- 3:29He failed over there in Providence and, and it's slowly
- 3:32but surely he was unsure where he was going with his career,
- 3:35became an assistant assistant coach in college and slowly
- 3:39moved up in the rankings and eventually took over UConn.
- 3:42And he's just really done an unbelievable job.
- 3:45Almost took the LA Lakers job a year ago.
- 3:48And it's been a remarkable, A remarkable story for the UConn
- 3:51Huskies. It's it's unbelievable.
- 3:53I love it. Final Four Recap of the national
- 3:56championship and the national championship preview In the
- 3:59first game of the Final Four, UConn beat Illinois 71 to 62,
- 4:04advancing to their third national championship game in
- 4:07the last four years. Taris Reid had another double
- 4:11double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and both solo Ball and
- 4:16Braylon Mullins shot very well with from three.
- 4:20In the second game of the Final Four, Michigan dominated Arizona
- 4:2491 to 73 like I predicted to advance to their first national
- 4:29championship since 2018. A day.
- 4:31Mara LED Michigan with 26 points, 9 rebounds, while five
- 4:37other Michigan players scored double figures.
- 4:40Michigan guard Yaxel Lenenburg will play in tonight's national
- 4:44championship through an MCL strain, a sprain he suffered in
- 4:49the first half versus Arizona. Michigan is favored by 7.5
- 4:53points in tonight's national championship game.
- 4:57Now, I will say this, OU Ucon fans should be very, very
- 5:01excited and there's a lot of reasons why you should be very,
- 5:04very excited for this Game 1. Danny Hurley to me, out of both
- 5:09coaches, I'm not taking shots at anything that we've seen so far.
- 5:13May has been sensational and there are a lot of people that
- 5:16were predicting that May was going to take if if he won the
- 5:20national championship of Michigan, take that North
- 5:22Carolina job and run. But stories coming out over the
- 5:25last 24 hours is he's not taking the job, He's not even
- 5:29interviewing for the job. He's staying with Michigan
- 5:32unless somebody else offers him a job.
- 5:33Hey, maybe one of these NBA teams, because it seems like the
- 5:37Lakers might be looking for a new coach at the end of the
- 5:39season. But nevertheless, what Danny
- 5:43Hurley has done over the last couple of years has been
- 5:47absolutely remarkable. And I'm, and I'm not a UConn
- 5:50fan. I, I do root for St.
- 5:53John's and Hofstra, all these New York teams.
- 5:55There's nobody here in Long Island that really stands out a
- 5:58Stony Brook. Stony Brook's made the, the, the
- 6:01tournament how many times over the last 10 years?
- 6:032 So Stony Brook is not a great program, but Hofstra, Speedy
- 6:09Claxton, I was rooting for them. They get knocked out by Alabama
- 6:14and now you look at Saint John's.
- 6:15We were rooting for Saint John's even though they got knocked out
- 6:18by Duke in the second-half when they had a one point lead going
- 6:22into the first half. Yukon is the only thing that
- 6:26really stands up for the tri-state.
- 6:28Now I'll say this about Long Island.
- 6:30There's a lot of non Yukon fans here in Long Island.
- 6:34Even if they're the Big East. They root for Villanova over
- 6:38Yukon and the Big East has been very, very good.
- 6:42If you think about the teams that we have seen over the last
- 6:45couple of years, Villanova has won multiple national
- 6:48championships, Yukon that's won multiple championships, St.
- 6:51John's has gotten better with Pitino, and over the last couple
- 6:54of years the Big East has really been good.
- 6:59If you want to look at divisions or conferences, I would say the
- 7:03Big East in the last 10 years has been as good as anybody.
- 7:07That says a lot about how they're transitioning
- 7:10conferences and what is the SEC, what is the Big 12 or the PAC 12
- 7:14or the Big 10, whatever, whatever you call these
- 7:17conferences now. We used to think that they were
- 7:19going to move these conferences into two conferences, but Danny
- 7:24Hurley has been remarkable. He has been sensational and
- 7:28anybody that takes shots at him because of his personality, what
- 7:31he does on and off the basketball court, who he points
- 7:34at, what he did to Zach Edie, what he does in the game, head
- 7:37butting at referees, yelling at coaches on the other side of the
- 7:41the court. We've seen it all with Danny
- 7:43Hurley. He's the the Bobby Knight of
- 7:46these days of basketball. You love it.
- 7:49You love that enthusiasm. You love the purpose of who he
- 7:52is, what he sticks up for. And he he really does believe he
- 7:56is the best coach in college basketball, maybe the best coach
- 7:59in all of basketball. But when we watch that game, and
- 8:05I'll say this, I did not believe Illinois at any point.
- 8:08I know I'm not sure what Vegas had, what was the point or what
- 8:14what was the. 1 1/2 but it was fluctuating.
- 8:16It was Illinois, right? They had Illinois winning the
- 8:18game. I did not think Illinois had any
- 8:20chance in this game. One, Illinois has never been
- 8:24here before and and the last time they were here was years
- 8:26and years ago. If they were, they were never in
- 8:31this position as Danny Hurley has done it so gracefully over
- 8:36the last couple of years and done it at such a high level
- 8:40with different teams. These aren't the same players.
- 8:42It's not the same portal players that he's brought in, the same
- 8:45recruiting class that he brought in.
- 8:47These are different players. They're running the same
- 8:50offense, the same defense. And that's what's remarkable.
- 8:54And you look at college basketball, usually they're one
- 8:56and done. It's not like that anymore with
- 8:58the NIL deals, the money that's being brought in.
- 9:01These players rather stay in college basketball than flee to
- 9:04the NBA and fail to be great players there.
- 9:09UConn has been fun to watch. And I said it when I looked at
- 9:14the the way the bracket was set up that UConn was destined to
- 9:18get to the Final Four, the way it was really set up with Duke.
- 9:22Duke was the only team that really stuck out to me that
- 9:25could have beaten UConn, that could have beaten the and it was
- 9:29the number one seed and it was as good as anybody throughout
- 9:32the season. What worried me about Duke was
- 9:34the injuries and consistency. I don't, I don't trust John
- 9:38Shire. I do trust Danny Hurley.
- 9:43Danny Hurley has done it enough. He's proven it time and time
- 9:47again that he could take any team to a national championship
- 9:51if he's put in the right position.
- 9:52If the bracket fell right, it doesn't always fall right with
- 9:55these teams. Look at them last year.
- 9:57The bracket didn't fall right for him.
- 9:58Who knocked him out? The national champion, right.
- 10:01It was Florida that knocked him out, so they lost against
- 10:05eventually the national champion Florida Gators.
- 10:09If they beat the Florida Gators, maybe they win four in a row.
- 10:12And I really do believe and we'll get into what Michigan
- 10:16did. A completely dominating against
- 10:18Arizona. It wasn't even close.
- 10:20I know Fish and I know Q loved Arizona throughout the
- 10:24tournament. Everybody had Arizona winning a
- 10:26national championship this year, even if had Arizona winning the
- 10:31national championship, because when you look at the talent, the
- 10:33talent stands, the offense and and and the great point guard
- 10:38play everything. They stood out throughout the
- 10:42tournament, throughout the season where they were as
- 10:44dominant as any team. But it's UConn Terrace Reed who
- 10:50has been as good as any player on this UConn Huskies team
- 10:53throughout this this tournament, Braille and Mullins who has been
- 10:58the Mr. I would say Mr. Luck because I'm not saying he was
- 11:02luck shooting, but this guy made one of the greatest shots we've
- 11:05ever seen. Not just the UConn Husky shoot,
- 11:08but in national championship or national bracket history we've
- 11:13never seen anything like that. With 0.4 seconds left he shoots
- 11:18almost a half court 3 and sinks it with a swish and ends the
- 11:22Duke Blue Devils run again. But what UConn stands for is
- 11:28they play team defense. They rebound very, very well.
- 11:31They play team basketball throughout every single game.
- 11:36And even when they're down, they were down against Duke.
- 11:41They were down in a lot of these games in the first half.
- 11:45They found a way to scrap back. They're scrappy and champions
- 11:49find a way to win no matter how bad they're down.
- 11:54All you got to do is scrap 7654 points, play defense and and
- 12:00they've been sensational. There's really nothing to say
- 12:03about the UConn Huskies and I congratulations to Illinois.
- 12:08They had a great year. Their run was sensational.
- 12:13But when you have Caravan playing 35 minutes, he has not.
- 12:16He's one of their best players, if not their best player,
- 12:19overall player. He has not had a good
- 12:21tournament. 35 minutes, 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists,
- 12:28one block. You expect more from Caravan
- 12:32Solo Ball. He's been back and forth
- 12:34throughout the tournament. Braille and Mullins, who could
- 12:35be a first round talent this year.
- 12:37Jaden Ross. But when you spread out your
- 12:41team offense and you're getting from all different parts of your
- 12:45team, including your bench, you're going to be very hard to
- 12:47beat. And they're a very good
- 12:48defensive team, very underrated. Very underrated because when you
- 12:53get into the tournament, you play a different style of
- 12:55defense. You play more prevent you, you,
- 12:58you, you smother teams, great offensive teams.
- 13:02That's what they did to Duke in the second-half of that game.
- 13:05Duke had their way in the first half.
- 13:07And what did Danny Hurley do in the going into the first half?
- 13:11He changed up the defense. He played a different style of
- 13:15defense. And that's the thing about a lot
- 13:17of these coaches. If you're a great coach, you if
- 13:19it doesn't work, if you play his own, you play man to man, you
- 13:23find ways that is going to defeat your opponent no matter
- 13:27if you played that defense all season long or you're
- 13:29transitioning that way in that particular game.
- 13:32That's what stands for a good team.
- 13:35Say whatever you want about UCOD and and everybody challenges
- 13:39Danny Hurley. Throughout the year, Danny
- 13:43Hurley has been very highly spoken.
- 13:45He doesn't like anybody he knows or he believes he's the greatest
- 13:49of all time. It doesn't matter what he says.
- 13:52All he has to do is put up and shut up.
- 13:55But he puts up and he never shuts up.
- 13:57And that's something that's to me, what I love about Danny
- 14:00Hurley. Bobby Knight wasn't a guy that I
- 14:02loved. I couldn't stand Bobby Knight
- 14:04when he when he coached the Indiana Hoosiers couldn't stand
- 14:07him. He was throwing chairs on the
- 14:09court, dancing around, yelling at referees, kicking the ball
- 14:13out in the fan to the fans. We've seen so many things Bobby
- 14:17Knight do. Danny Hurley's worse.
- 14:21Standing early. If he could, he'd smack the hell
- 14:22out of everybody. He'd smack the hell out of his
- 14:25own team and smack, smack the hell out of the coach or the
- 14:28coaching staff on the other team.
- 14:30He doesn't give a crap. He goes out there.
- 14:32He he teaches and he trains these guys to be killers and
- 14:36that's what they are. Taris Reid has been, and I'll
- 14:40say this for right now, if, if Taris Reid decides to go into
- 14:43this year's draft, I don't know if he's a first round talent, he
- 14:46might be a late first round talent, but I would look at
- 14:49Tarus Reid if I'm a team at the tail end of the first round and
- 14:52pick him up because he's the type of guy that you can use as
- 14:56a three or four in the NBA. He's mean.
- 14:59He's tough on the boards, really tough on the boards and he plays
- 15:03fundamental basketball. That's what you want a good
- 15:07teammate to play and an NBA player to play might be a good a
- 15:11really good NBA basketball player.
- 15:13We'll see what happens. They said speed.
- 15:16I don't know what he's saying over here.
- 15:17What is he saying? Go.
- 15:18What's fishing late? 1st to early to mid second
- 15:21round. All right, so that's what I'm
- 15:22saying. Terrace Reed could be a late,
- 15:25maybe an early first round draft pick if somebody takes a chance
- 15:28with him, if they like his style.
- 15:30Kawhi Leonard wasn't expected to be a mid first round talent.
- 15:34His defense and what he did for San Diego State, that's what
- 15:37really stood out, stood out to to San Antonio when they drafted
- 15:40him. But he slowly but surely created
- 15:46an offensive style of game. He became a better shooter in
- 15:48the NBA. So did Donovan Mitchell when he
- 15:50came into the NBA, the Spyder, He was a defensive player.
- 15:54He averaged 11 points a game in college.
- 15:57He developed a shot in the NBA. He got better when he stepped to
- 16:01that next level. And I'll say this, I don't know
- 16:04what Taris Reid's going to be in the NBA, but what I see is he
- 16:06finds a way to help his team win.
- 16:09He's a winner. And if they win the national
- 16:11championship tonight against Michigan, I I mean, there's
- 16:15nothing bad. There's nothing really to say.
- 16:17Michigan to me is the better team.
- 16:21They're the better team. There's no argument to that.
- 16:24He they beat a good Arizona team and Michigan can spread out
- 16:30their offense as good as anybody.
- 16:32If you think about what they bring to the table, it's
- 16:34remarkable. Lindenborg is, is a great
- 16:38player. Play 15 minutes, 11 points, 3
- 16:41rebounds, couple of couple of steals, one steal.
- 16:44This guy is a great player. Marez Johnson 10 points, 24
- 16:48minutes, 7 rebounds a day. Mara 26 points, 9 rebounds.
- 16:55Burnett 21 minutes, 6 points, 4 rebounds.
- 16:59They spread out their off and so very well.
- 17:02Everyone of this team can score, even on their bench.
- 17:05Trey McKinney, he played 27 minutes off the bench, gave you
- 17:1016 points and three rebounds. They're so good offensively they
- 17:14can. Every one of these guys can
- 17:16shoot. And that, ladies and gentlemen,
- 17:18is something Yukon didn't see in this tournament.
- 17:21That's what makes Michigan so very dangerous.
- 17:24They only lost three games this year.
- 17:26There were 36 and three. They played a a Wildcat team
- 17:29that was just as good as them. And what they did to the
- 17:34Wildcats early in the game is they smother them offensively.
- 17:38The Wildcats cannot shoot. That has been their problem all
- 17:41season long and what Arizona couldn't do, what they did to
- 17:47everybody, including Purdue and especially in the second-half of
- 17:49the game, it's a completely dominated the paint.
- 17:53They got into the paint and they dominated.
- 17:58Pete was good. He played 31 minutes.
- 18:00He gave you 16 points and 11 rebounds.
- 18:02But everybody else buries, Braden buries who everybody
- 18:08thinks it's a top five, maybe a top ten pick this year.
- 18:11In this year's draft, he played 38 minutes, only gave you 13
- 18:14points. Bradley, who's hot and cold, you
- 18:18don't know what Bradley is going to come up and show up in a
- 18:20game. Jaden Bradley, who could be an
- 18:23early first round draft pick, gave you 13 points and only one
- 18:27rebound. Every one of these guys, they
- 18:31couldn't do enough against a Michigan team that was just
- 18:36absolutely dominant. And it wasn't just the first
- 18:39half, it was the second-half. They smothered them in the
- 18:42second-half and Michigan's defense quietly showed you why
- 18:47they're the best overall team in this tournament.
- 18:51It took them a while to figure things out.
- 18:53Throughout the year, even though they were 36 and three, there
- 18:55were games that you wonder what Michigan was going to show up,
- 18:58if they were going to be the Michigan Wolverine team that
- 19:01some people thought was going to be a national championship
- 19:04dynasty this year, a team that was going to win a championship
- 19:07since 2018, which they didn't do.
- 19:12And now you look at where Michigan is and what Michigan
- 19:15has compared to UConn. They're by far the better team.
- 19:19I don't think you can argue that they're they're definitely
- 19:23better than UConn, but the better team doesn't always win.
- 19:25We've seen this before in professional sports, college
- 19:28sports, the better team doesn't always win.
- 19:33And that's why I think Dan Hurley has the advantage because
- 19:36he's been in this situation before.
- 19:38He's played great teams. Look at Zach Edie and Purdue.
- 19:43The Boilermakers, I wouldn't say were their favorite to be in
- 19:45UConn because they weren't. But to me, throughout that year,
- 19:50they were the best team in a tournament.
- 19:52And they're really, at the last two weeks of the season, they
- 19:55were better than UConn and the bracket fell right for Purdue
- 20:00and that's why they went all the way to the national
- 20:02championship. And I really thought it was
- 20:05going to be Purdue and U Conn again this year, but Arizona
- 20:11choked, Michigan played at a high level, and Michigan is as
- 20:15dangerous as any team UConn has played throughout this
- 20:19tournament. UConn, pretty much besides the
- 20:23Duke game made, especially the second-half, they dominated
- 20:28every second-half. And that's the thing about Danny
- 20:31Hurley that I think is so impressive.
- 20:34This man, down or up, he always finds a way to get his team to
- 20:39believe his energy, his charisma, his craziness on the
- 20:44sidelines, dancing around, taking off his coat.
- 20:48I mean, there's nobody like this guy.
- 20:51If I was an NBA team right now, and if he wins a national
- 20:56champion, he has nothing else to prove.
- 20:59Nothing else to prove in college at all.
- 21:02Three and four years. Wooden's the only person, the
- 21:06only coach has ever done this before.
- 21:09Yeah, you got to break that one. I'm I'm reaching out to his
- 21:12agent. I'm reaching out to Danny Hurley
- 21:15and finding whatever I have to do to get this guy to coach my
- 21:18team because there's nothing else he needs to do.
- 21:22Now we can stay with UConn and win another national
- 21:24championship, win multiple more championships and, and consider
- 21:28everybody can consider him better than John Wood, maybe the
- 21:30greatest college coach of all time.
- 21:31Could you imagine this guy winning 5 or 6 championships in
- 21:35nine years? I mean, you're talking about
- 21:37something that we've never seen before at this level when when
- 21:41the game is completely different.
- 21:42College basketball is different. Now it's much harder because you
- 21:46have a portal, you have NIL, there's, there's just so many
- 21:51things that you can do now as a program that John that wouldn't,
- 21:56couldn't do in those days. And that's what's so important
- 22:00with UCLA&UNUNLV, you know, So it, it's, it's incredible what
- 22:07Danny Hurley has done. There's no argument to even
- 22:10argue that. But this tonight is going to be
- 22:13a hard, hard. How can I say this?
- 22:18Not even a hard battle. It's.
- 22:20Definitely going to be a hard battle.
- 22:21I'm not saying, I'm not saying it's not going to be a hard
- 22:23battle, but that's not even the word that I'm trying to use.
- 22:25Oh, OK, yeah. I'm not even using.
- 22:27It's it's. Going to be a hard hold to dig
- 22:30up for U Conn to come out a winner against a Michigan team
- 22:35that to me all around from top to bottom are way better than
- 22:39UConn. Yeah, first two tournaments for
- 22:41U Conn that they won the championship and they won every
- 22:43game by double digits, and you're not seeing that the same
- 22:45level this year just because I think the inconsistencies with
- 22:47the backcourt have been showing. Reid's been playing great in
- 22:50every game, but Caravan was off in some games.
- 22:52Solo ball finally got it going in this game after he was
- 22:54struggling much of the tournament.
- 22:56And Braylon Mullins has had some big shots, but he's also taken
- 22:58some bad shots as well. And that's where the adversity
- 23:01aspect for Dan has has come in and he's been able to still
- 23:04rally his team through all of that.
- 23:05That being said, you do have to also account for the adversity
- 23:07aspect with Michigan, where Yaxel Lindenberg, who's been who
- 23:10was a big 10 player of the year, he was hurt 15 played 15 minutes
- 23:14in that game. Now, granted, I thought he came
- 23:15back a little too quickly. I thought they should have let
- 23:17him rest a little more. And apparently the report was
- 23:19saying that he made that decision to come in the game
- 23:21when his agent and his and his family were telling him don't go
- 23:24back in the game. So we'll see how that impacts
- 23:26Michigan in this game. But they were able to get the
- 23:28combined production for the forward position.
- 23:31You saw that with McKinney. You saw that by Maurice Johnson,
- 23:33who Qi know you mentioned last week in King of the Hill.
- 23:35Maurice Johnson had a very good game in that and got that
- 23:37combined production even with somebody like Kudo not scoring
- 23:40at a high clip. Somebody like Rodney Gale not
- 23:42scoring at a high clip was one of their better scores in the
- 23:44backcourt. But they were able to get all
- 23:46that combined production amidst all that.
- 23:47And they had two double digit runs with Lindenberg out of the
- 23:51game too. Like that just doesn't come
- 23:53against the team as talented as Arizona is.
- 23:55And Michigan, you saw them really try to take Arizona out
- 23:58of their own game and play transition when they are not
- 24:01normally known for that. They they can play fast if they
- 24:03have to, but they want to score with their big guys.
- 24:06They have so much size. They want to be able to shoot
- 24:08the three with their big guys and win mismatches that way.
- 24:11And they were still able to do that even with Lindenberg out of
- 24:13the game, which says a lot about the the way that they can just
- 24:16play different styles in a different way.
- 24:18Now Terrace Reed is going to create a big presence against
- 24:20tomorrow. That's going to be a really good
- 24:22battle inside. And the key is going to be for
- 24:24them is not allowing the offensive rebounds against
- 24:26Yukon. If you, that's another big game.
- 24:28Does he move up in the draft? Is he considered?
- 24:31Yeah, he's already moved. Up is he considered maybe a top
- 24:3512, top 13 type of prospect? Because everybody thinks that
- 24:39Braylon Mullins is a guy that's going to be drafted ahead of
- 24:42Terrace Reed and any of these guys.
- 24:44Caravan, he's coming out, maybe going into this year's draft.
- 24:48It it's crazy because Mullins is a freshman and Mullins to me has
- 24:52not been the best player for U Conn.
- 24:54The best player for U Conn throughout this tournament is
- 24:57easily Terrace Reed on the boards defensively and
- 25:00offensively, putting up the points he was eating.
- 25:02He hit a couple of three pointers too.
- 25:05So Terrace Reed has been really, really good and I think he's
- 25:09slowly but surely developing into a high profile player in
- 25:12this year's draft. Yeah, it's one of those terrace
- 25:15Reed matchups that you look at with Mara and you also look at
- 25:17with the other forward depth of Michigan has.
- 25:19And that's where I'm curious how much he'll try to be more of a
- 25:23spacing guy. You mentioned he made a three or
- 25:24two in this tournament, which is not his strength.
- 25:26He's made, he's been better than expected from the free throw
- 25:28line and that's where I'm curious if Dan Hurley's going to
- 25:30try to expose that match but try to space them out a little more
- 25:33rather than just trying to play a power game.
- 25:34Because Yukon again, they have a disadvantage with the size.
- 25:36They're going to have to play faster than they usually do.
- 25:39They haven't had to really push the pace as much.
- 25:41Maybe against Michigan State they did a little bit, but
- 25:43throughout this tournament they didn't really do that as a main
- 25:45force of their strength. But if they're going to get
- 25:47Michigan back trying to play faster than they want to, that's
- 25:50going to be a big key. And I think him spacing out a
- 25:52lot more is going to be that solo ball I think is another big
- 25:55X Factor because last game was his first real big game of the
- 25:58tournament. But he was like, he was arguably
- 25:59their best player at the beginning of the season.
- 26:01So if you can find another group for that game, that'll be a
- 26:03definitely big thing for U Conn to be able to overcome.
- 26:05But this is not only for a Michigan team that's the most
- 26:08talented team. This is a Michigan team that's
- 26:09now overcoming the adversity. If they manage Lindenberg like
- 26:12they did last game and get these combined production somewhere
- 26:14else, Michigan will definitely. Win Harris Reid is averaging a
- 26:17double AA game almost. He's averaging 14 and 8:00
- 26:19throughout the season. I don't think he's Andre
- 26:22Drummond. I'm not going to try to compare
- 26:24him to any of those guys cuz we don't know what he's going to
- 26:26develop during Look at the Knicks, the Knicks drafted
- 26:29during they traded him over there to Detroit.
- 26:31And look at the development. He's he's really turned in.
- 26:34He's he's transformed into one of the best big man in the
- 26:36league who can shoot 1819 foot jumpers, very good free throw
- 26:40shooter, great defender. He's built like a rock.
- 26:43You can't even run that guy. He looks like, you know, Mr. O
- 26:46from that working weightlifting contest and all that other stuff
- 26:50those those competitions, He's unbelievable.
- 26:53So, and I'm not Saint Terrace Reed looks like him either, but
- 26:56his ability to do what he has done so well throughout the
- 26:59tournament, beating guys to the boards, offensively,
- 27:02defensively, and he's done everything for UConn.
- 27:05He has been the best player every single week, every single
- 27:09game throughout this tournament. He has been the best player on
- 27:13the court and that says a lot about him in the big game.
- 27:16Are you going to trust, And I'm not saying Braylon Mons is not
- 27:18going to be a great player in the NBA.
- 27:20He very much could be. He's a freshman.
- 27:22Tara Street is not a freshman. He's been in.
- 27:24How long has he been in college basketball?
- 27:26What is he transferred from Michigan last year.
- 27:27I think this is year 3. For all right, so he's been
- 27:29three years. I'm going to trust a junior over
- 27:33a freshman and, and his time and, and so many programs he's
- 27:37been on, he's been in a Michigan program that's been very, very
- 27:39good over the years. And now he's playing for a UConn
- 27:42team with one of arguably the greatest coach right now in
- 27:45college basketball and maybe the greatest coach in all of
- 27:49basketball, including the NBA right now.
- 27:51Yeah, last thing before you go queue, I wanted to mention the
- 27:54Dusty May versus Terrace Reed, His former player aspect.
- 27:56I've always said on usually more with football, but usually that
- 27:59advantage goes to the coach because the coach will know not
- 28:01a game plan for you. So it'll be up to Reid himself
- 28:04making the decisions as an especially if he gets a lot of
- 28:07offensive rebounds in this game. And like I said, Dan Hurley is
- 28:09facing the floor to be able to counter that because May will
- 28:11know his strengths and weaknesses knowing a player.
- 28:13And Q, you say no, but think about it.
- 28:15Look how many different teams he's coached over the years.
- 28:18It's not the same bunch of guys. He was bringing different guys
- 28:21through the portal. Some of his guys left and played
- 28:24for other teams, Caravans. So Caravans, the only one out of
- 28:28all these teams, all these players that he's coached over
- 28:31the years, that's still a part of that program.
- 28:33So it's pretty incredible how many NBA coaches year in and
- 28:37year out change rosters and are successful as Danny Early, as
- 28:41with the UConn Husky. I know it's college basketball.
- 28:43That makes it even more impressive what he's done.
- 28:46Yeah, but I also think that like, you know, you can trade
- 28:49out players and still be a good coach.
- 28:51So I don't I don't determine the fact that isn't can you retain
- 28:55players. I think it's the ball about the
- 28:57answers, his nose and how you execute.
- 28:58Now, I don't take nothing away from him.
- 29:00I just think it's a hard statement to say that he's the
- 29:02best coach and whatnot. But in regards to that Brandon
- 29:05Mueller situation, I I tell you all the time that the NBA, they
- 29:08draft off potential. So I think that, you know, even
- 29:12though he's the name, I do think Terence Reed has made himself
- 29:15some money. I think if he go to a system
- 29:17more like Golden State, more like maybe they're going to blow
- 29:21up everything over there in Milwaukee, I think that'll be
- 29:23good. And if he come to Boston or
- 29:24whatever, I think we can use them and help them out, you
- 29:27know, get him into a system and get him into a group and things
- 29:30of that nature. But I don't think he's
- 29:32structure. I don't think he's that.
- 29:33Yeah, I don't think he's that raw athlete where he can
- 29:36actually create his own side in at the next level.
- 29:40I think he's a system, run them off the screen, do a little high
- 29:43pick, high pick and roll with him and and allow him to develop
- 29:48a game. But yeah, I think I don't, I
- 29:50don't think he, I think he earned himself some money a lot
- 29:53just in this postseason. I first of all, Fish keeps
- 29:56saying it sounds like Drummond. I I don't think he's first of
- 29:59all, he could shoot free throws. He can actually hit free throws.
- 30:02What is he a 7475% free throw shooter?
- 30:06Drummond couldn't. I think he coming into from
- 30:08college to the NBAI think he was a career. 50 he was in the
- 30:12Fifties 50% Reed is in 65 or something like.
- 30:15That he's like a 70% career free throw shooter that's way better
- 30:19than Drummond. I can think about it.
- 30:22All I'm saying is like couldn't compel us with a great comp
- 30:24queue. It's a guy that's like limited
- 30:27in today's NBA because they need the space to floor because
- 30:30everyone's playing five out. The got the guys that are the
- 30:33old school centers. Like if Drummond was was playing
- 30:3615 years ago as opposed or came to the league 10 years earlier,
- 30:40he would have been a twice as valuable player than he is
- 30:42today. Today he's a double, double.
- 30:45Look, he's still a double, double drum.
- 30:47He's 12 and 12. Basically they're 12 and 11.
- 30:49At his height he could he could give you 18 to 20 and 12 to 13
- 30:54rebounds. He was that good at it.
- 30:55That matters, but it also he was on losing team after losing team
- 31:01after losing team because offensively they never spaced
- 31:04it. I just were.
- 31:04I think Reed's got definitely a better shooter than Drummond,
- 31:07but he's going to have to shoot more than he currently does.
- 31:09He's a senior. I would be surprised if he makes
- 31:12sense to the lottery, but I would say he's he's probably
- 31:15made the first round with this crazy performance he's had.
- 31:17He's been unbelievable. He really?
- 31:19Has the playoff run? Yeah, deep playoff run, Jeff not
- 31:21going to always go away. I give it, yeah.
- 31:24Always. And we again, he could develop
- 31:26more skills in the NBA that he didn't develop in college
- 31:28basketball. There are players that have done
- 31:31that before. I mentioned a couple of them.
- 31:33Donovan Mitchell was not a great offensive player.
- 31:35That's why Phil Jackson, the Knicks, decided to draft
- 31:38Nilikina, a French player who had failed in the NBA.
- 31:41He went, he jumped from the Knicks, then he went to the
- 31:43Spurs or Atlanta. He jumped it like 5-6 different
- 31:46teams. But Donovan Mitchell, he was
- 31:49pretty much a Utah Jazz and then a Cavalier.
- 31:52We could see the development of what Donovan Mitchell became as
- 31:54an athletically gifted kid. The kid from Houston who
- 31:57everybody likes Kingston, they said that his his offense is not
- 32:02NBA light, but guess what? His skill and his ability, his
- 32:06athletic ability and his gifts. He can transition into a great
- 32:10offensive player in the NBA if he figures out a shot.
- 32:13And that's, that's just a lot about these players.
- 32:15When you're athletically gifted and a lot of these guys, all
- 32:18these NBA players are so gifted. When you watch the combine in
- 32:21the NBA, they jump very high. They could go up and down the
- 32:25court in like 7 or 8 steps. It's unbelievable.
- 32:28Their strides and, and, and all of them could dunk.
- 32:31Practically every single one of them can dunk, do all these
- 32:34unbelievable athletically athletic things on a basketball
- 32:38court. I'm going to tell you this right
- 32:39now, what I've watched Redo throughout this tournament has
- 32:43been incredible. And he wasn't even the
- 32:45headlining guy going in this tournament where that's the guy
- 32:48Yukon's pointing out Reed's the guy.
- 32:50He's the go to man Terrace Reed has become the go to man for the
- 32:55UConn Huskies. It's not Braylin Mullins, it's
- 32:59not Caravan. Caravan going to this tournament
- 33:02a lot of people believe was the best player on this team all
- 33:05around. He was the best player on his
- 33:06team. Caravan throughout this
- 33:08tournament has not been good. What is he averaging 9 points,
- 33:11eight points a game right now in this tournament?
- 33:15Reed's averaging the double, double in the tournament.
- 33:17He's doing better in the tournament than he was doing in
- 33:19the regular season. So when you look at when you're
- 33:24trying to draft players and the way you look at players is you
- 33:27want to see what they can do in the big game.
- 33:29How are they going to show up and how are they going to
- 33:32respond against top and talent? Because if you think about it,
- 33:36how many games you play in a regular season when it comes to
- 33:38college basketball, what is it, 30 games?
- 33:39It's 30 and then a couple of conference championship games.
- 33:42Depending how many games, speedy 3330 games, something around
- 33:45there. They're not playing high talent
- 33:48throughout the weeks. Some weeks they're playing
- 33:51decent talent, some of them are not even great.
- 33:53The every single team that makes it in a tournament are great top
- 33:58end conference talent. Not all of them, I mean those 16
- 34:02rights they sneaking in, but most of them after the once you
- 34:05get into the round of 32, all of them are good.
- 34:08They're all talented team. They have elite players, top end
- 34:12talent and what Taris Reid has done week in and week out in
- 34:16this tournament has been incredible To say that he hasn't
- 34:20proven himself to be possibly 13th or 14th in this year's
- 34:25draft. I, if I'm a team and I'm
- 34:28looking, I'm trying to build my roster, teams that are looking
- 34:31for guys that you can build around and become leaders and
- 34:35big rebounders and, and a guy that's going to give you a
- 34:37double, double look at Mitchell Robinson, Mitchell Robertson on
- 34:40the Knicks. He should have been a lottery
- 34:43pick and remember what he did, he was going to go to SMU.
- 34:47He didn't. I don't think he liked.
- 34:48Florida State. Florida State, whatever.
- 34:50I think it was SMU. It was Larry Brown, wasn't
- 34:53Larry. Brown, they were in a scandal,
- 34:54yeah. I think it was SMU.
- 34:56He didn't go. It was it was similar to the
- 34:58Randy Moss story where he's supposed to go to one of those
- 35:00was in fact Florida State in that story too, and it just
- 35:03neither 1 materialized for Mitch and he got screwed.
- 35:08Errol, if he makes it into the lottery Terrace Reed.
- 35:11He would be the first senior drafted in the lottery since the
- 35:152013 draft when CJ McCollum, Cody Zeller and Trey Burke.
- 35:19McCollum had a good career of the three of them.
- 35:21Trey Burke was in and out of like, not really.
- 35:24Cody Zeller, you know, was a rotation player for the for I
- 35:27guess the Hornets for a little bit, right?
- 35:29Yeah. It's just been 1213 years now
- 35:32since a senior in in NCAA has been taken in the lottery.
- 35:37I think he might get in maybe top 25, top 20.
- 35:41Yeah, he ain't seen that lottery.
- 35:42But that lottery, they're not going to take a senior man.
- 35:45I think they're just showing that like, maybe I can get a
- 35:47young kid down the road and he can get himself physically built
- 35:50right, like Reed by the time he's 22.
- 35:53And that's how I think some of these guys think.
- 35:54I absolutely draft Harris Reid. He's a guy that can absolutely
- 35:58give that fundamental type of player off the bench.
- 36:01I'll tell you right now and we before we get out of this
- 36:03segment, Errol tonight, he's going to make a lot of money or
- 36:07lose a lot of money. I'll tell.
- 36:09You I, I I'm a little worried because I saw what Harry Mara
- 36:13did to that big Lithuanian on Arizona Crevash.
- 36:18This guy Mara, he was at UCLA last week, 7377 wingspan.
- 36:24He was completely unstoppable. They didn't even need Yaxel in
- 36:30that game. They didn't need him.
- 36:32He this guy, they couldn't stop him on the inside.
- 36:35It didn't matter. And everything that Arizona did,
- 36:38it was just like throw your hands up.
- 36:40They have perfect transition, 3 point offense.
- 36:42Well, UConn has perfect transition defense and I am and
- 36:47that's what Hurley's known for, right?
- 36:48And the in the NBA, you're not getting pros to run half full
- 36:52court traps for an entire half. You know what I mean?
- 36:56But he he did that against Duke and guess what happened?
- 36:59They are freaking fantastic with the college defense and this is
- 37:03an excellent matchup. But I think it's going to be
- 37:05decided if Reed can take it to Mara and really to get rid of
- 37:10their biggest advantage, which is controlling the pain.
- 37:13You're going to need some help and that's the problem.
- 37:14Read other help is averaging 6 or 9 points so and I don't think
- 37:18you're going to be able to come through.
- 37:19Caravan, right? He better show.
- 37:21Up Caravan. Solo solo ball too is another
- 37:23one because he was the one that had more of the hype.
- 37:25That's what Errol was describing.
- 37:26Like Caravan was the smart. He's the smart player.
- 37:28He'll know to be a pass first guy.
- 37:29Will solo ball do that? Don't count out Danny Hurley and
- 37:33how he pushes these guys to that whole, you know, championship
- 37:37form. I there's nobody I've seen
- 37:40that's pushed his team to the and push the right buttons
- 37:42better than Danny Hurley has. There really is.
- 37:44It can only go so far though. I got it.
- 37:46They're in the national championship.
- 37:48Yeah, but that's all saying like tired.
- 37:50You know, being cussed out ain't going to make shots and you know
- 37:54he's good at it. He's good at motivating the
- 37:56guys. I won't take that away from him.
- 37:57But 69610 in that middle waiting for you and waiting to do
- 38:01something. It's just going to be difficult
- 38:03for them to get the ball in the inside and work through Tan 3.
