- 1:11You're in for a treat with our three peat returning guest, my
- 1:16good pal Jackie Peck. You welcome back.
- 1:18Hi. Everyone, I'm so glad to be
- 1:20here. So glad that you are here.
- 1:22How are you doing? I am doing.
- 1:25Good. Great.
- 1:26Solid like 7 out of 10. Oh, that's really good, yeah.
- 1:30Unemployed. Fun, employed.
- 1:32Thriving, doing a lot of yoga, being really annoying about.
- 1:37It Oh my God, it is so endearing.
- 1:41To me it is so annoying. Oh my God, it is so annoying.
- 1:45No, it is so endearing. I think it's gonna be a while
- 1:48before I get annoyed. Oh wow, thank you for that
- 1:51runway. Yeah, of course, but don't test
- 1:54me, OK? If you all wanna take a yoga
- 1:58class with Jackie, you're gonna have to.
- 2:03Haunt me, you're gonna have to haunt this bitch.
- 2:05Down you know what you can you can reach out to me at did that
- 2:08age well on Instagram, sign into the DMS and I will get you
- 2:11connected to Jackie for a donation based yoga class.
- 2:15Yes, donation based yoga. I'm trying to fund my training
- 2:20and trauma informed yoga so that I can teach yoga in prisons.
- 2:24Yes, and she's already got her 200 hour.
- 2:27Yes, cert. Big, big for huge, huge.
- 2:32And Jackie is she can't be exposed to the sun for that
- 2:37long. And she was exposed to the sun a
- 2:39lot outdoors in Mexico when she got her yoga teacher training.
- 2:43So I just like to say thank you. Yeah, you can't tell that I was
- 2:46exposed. To and you cannot tell because
- 2:48she is diligent. Yeah, that's the way I want it,
- 2:50people. Absolutely, but they also said
- 2:53that they thought you were what, like 24?
- 2:55Yeah, and I said that's the sunscreen.
- 2:57That's the sunscreen and that's on sunscreen.
- 3:01Today we're talking about Daddy daycare and listener, let me
- 3:06give you a little context. So we were first going to talk
- 3:10about a Christmas movie and then we were like, you know what we
- 3:13want to talk about Cheaper by the Dozen.
- 3:15That was the movie that came up in conversation at our friend's
- 3:19party. And someone was like, oh, has
- 3:22anyone seen Cheaper by the Dozen recently?
- 3:24Like, did that age well? And Jackie said, Oh my God,
- 3:27let's talk about that. And then upon further
- 3:30reflection, realized that she thought Cheaper by the Dozen was
- 3:32daddy daycare. And I said, you know what, let's
- 3:35do daddy daycare. OK, the covers look extremely
- 3:38similar. And the vibe is also very
- 3:40similar where it's kids running around going and the dad going,
- 3:45Oh my God. And they came out the same year,
- 3:48did you know that? No, I did not know that.
- 3:51So big year for dads and chaotic children, It's big year.
- 3:56Big year for like physical comedy and dads getting kicked
- 4:00in the nuts probably. Huge, huge for that.
- 4:05So tell me about your history with Daddy Daycare.
- 4:09I I don't know why, I was kind of Googling or Googling on
- 4:14Reddit. That's the worst statement.
- 4:16No, it's not, because we all know that when you're searching
- 4:20for something and you don't really want the AI results, you
- 4:22say blah blah blah Reddit. Yeah, and they have the forums
- 4:26tab now, which is really quite helpful.
- 4:28Like, they know. Anyway, I was on Reddit like
- 4:30looking at what people said about this movie and I was
- 4:35personally shocked to find that most people were like, yeah, you
- 4:39can skip it. I was shocked to see that, too.
- 4:41My expectations were so low for this movie because it had been,
- 4:45I mean, it's been years. I've seen it, and I was like,
- 4:48oh, it's gonna be not that good. You know what I was Spoiler,
- 4:52spoiler, sound the alarm. You might say it was.
- 4:58It was awesome. It was awesome.
- 5:00I loved it. I was obsessed with this movie
- 5:02in, I think high school. Really.
- 5:04Like, I don't know, I might have talked about this on a previous
- 5:08pod, but my friend and I would go to Walmart 'cause there was
- 5:11not that much to do in Sheboygan, WI.
- 5:17And you would go to Walmart and they had a $5 DVD bin.
- 5:21Oh, and you would be like a dollar DVD bin.
- 5:24Let's spend. Let me spend the money that I
- 5:26made working at the library on a new DVD.
- 5:29He said $20. That's four DVD's, yeah.
- 5:31Yeah yeah, amazing. So I think daddy daycare was
- 5:35probably one of those DVD's love that and it re watching it was
- 5:39such a joy to me. I was laughing out loud so much,
- 5:42remembering all the silly quotes and yeah, yeah.
- 5:46What is your experience with Daddy Daycare?
- 5:48So I remember seeing it when I was younger and thinking that it
- 5:52was cute and also thinking that it was stressful.
- 5:56I remember being like, Oh my gosh, these kids are everywhere.
- 6:00What are they going to do next? How old were you when you felt
- 6:03that it was stressful to have kids everywhere?
- 6:05You know what I can't remember? What year did this movie come
- 6:07out? I don't remember.
- 6:09OK, hold, hold please. I got to look it up because
- 6:12mommy didn't do her homework. My guess is like, I think it was
- 6:161999. No, really, no, maybe like 2003.
- 6:20I don't know. Wait, but do you wanna?
- 6:22Do you wanna place your place? Your bed. 2002.
- 6:25OK daddy daycare was 2003. I had it so close anyway.
- 6:34So you were. Well, you don't need to reveal
- 6:36your age. I know you're your.
- 6:37Lady and lady never reveals her age.
- 6:39No, I was in 3rd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade in 2003.
- 6:43Ouchy, ouchy mommy. So you as a third grader thought
- 6:51that kids being chaotic was stressful?
- 6:53Of course. OK, this gives me a lot of just
- 6:56another layer to the Molly Smith onion.
- 6:58Absolutely. And we're peeling, always.
- 7:01Yeah, I think I only thought it was stressful now as an adult.
- 7:04Oh yeah, well, I also found it. I found it kind of stressful as
- 7:07an adult, but they balanced it so often with the kids sitting
- 7:11quietly and doing stuff. Like they were so easily
- 7:16distracted by things like, you know, a puppet show.
- 7:20And whenever Steve's on, the guy who smells the mail, love him.
- 7:25Love him. The casting in this film is what
- 7:27made it if. OK, here's the thing.
- 7:30If Eddie Murphy was not the star of this movie, this would be not
- 7:33a very good movie, may I say a bad movie?
- 7:36Yeah. But because of Eddie Murphy,
- 7:39this movie to me, soared. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:43And people on Reddit were saying he really phoned it in.
- 7:47They were like a couple times. You could see he was, you know,
- 7:51being the Eddie Murphy we all know and love, of course.
- 7:54But. I don't know, I said.
- 7:57I thought he did a great job. Even if he phoned it in, he did
- 7:59a great job. Yeah, his baseline of phoning it
- 8:02in is way better than any of you.
- 8:04Yeah, yeah, yeah. Suck it, Reddit Redditors.
- 8:08Yeah, suck it, Reddit Redditors. This movie was directed by Steve
- 8:11Carr of Paul Blart Mall cop fame.
- 8:14That makes so much sense, right? I'd love that movie too.
- 8:17He. Also did the he said he did next
- 8:22Friday, which is the Friday sequel.
- 8:25Doctor Dolittle 2 I don't even know what Friday.
- 8:27Is it's a, it's a movie, the ice cube.
- 8:30It's kind of it's where the line by Felicia comes from.
- 8:33OK. Doctor Dolittle 2 rebound Are we
- 8:37done yet? Which I I assume is the sequel
- 8:40to Are We there Yet? Couple other you know, straight
- 8:46to straight to streaming or straight to DVD movies.
- 8:50Oh, there was a Freaky Friday TV movie in 2818 and he did that
- 8:57anyway, so that. Is big sequel guy.
- 9:00Big sequel guy and he wrote and directed this film.
- 9:06Of course we have Jeff Garlin as Phil, the other Veggio, the
- 9:11other daddy of Daddy Daycare I. Do want to acknowledge with Jeff
- 9:14Garlin, like I think this movie was firmly in the hot wife
- 9:19schlubby dad era of media. Absolutely.
- 9:23And I saw that and I was like, Oh yeah.
- 9:25Like I kind of forgot about. Yeah, forgot about these
- 9:27schlubby dads. It was a little.
- 9:30You know, one thing that I was bummed about on rewatch was
- 9:34like, the fat guy falls. Yeah, You know, when he, for
- 9:38instance, in the last scene, we're all excited.
- 9:41Daddy daycare is a real place and all of the parents are with
- 9:46the kids and they're having fun. And then and then he falls off
- 9:51of the playset and crushes his enemy with his body.
- 9:56So things like that. And like, he's always like, he's
- 9:59always eating kind of sloppy, right?
- 10:01Just like, you know, the big guy tropes.
- 10:04It's not his fault, certainly. But kind of similar to our
- 10:07feedback on School of Rock. Like, yeah.
- 10:10The fat jokes. Sorry, yeah, they don't age
- 10:13well. Sorry.
- 10:14Then people are like, oh, but it's physical comedy.
- 10:17It's like, well. Yeah, but there was other
- 10:20physical comedy, like him getting kicked in the nuts, him
- 10:23getting kicked by the kid on the swing set that like was not
- 10:26related to his weight. Yeah, totally.
- 10:28They kicked multiple men in the in the nuts.
- 10:30No, I think it was all him. It was all.
- 10:32Phil really? I thought they kicked.
- 10:35I thought that they kicked Charlie in the nuts, too.
- 10:38Charlie. Eddie Murphy's character.
- 10:39But you know what? It's all kind of a blur.
- 10:41It's all a blur. Regina King as Kim, Charlie's
- 10:46wife. She was good.
- 10:49She seems like AI believed her as like a capable person,
- 10:54capable parent, capable worker. She was a lawyer.
- 10:57She was going back to work and I thought that I believe that.
- 11:03Yeah, I, I don't know, maybe this is a me problem, but it
- 11:07probably is. I felt like it was a little
- 11:10unbelievable that she just like, let Charlie do all this stuff.
- 11:13She was just like, Are you sure? OK, I believe you.
- 11:17Like you can do it. Her, I mean, look, their house
- 11:21was a disaster. I thought that she was going to
- 11:23get more frustrated that they were breaking stuff.
- 11:27They were. It was always a.
- 11:29Mess the night that she came home after the first day and she
- 11:33sees her house is destroyed and she's like, she's just wrong.
- 11:36Day at the office, she rolls her eyes.
- 11:38She goes upstairs. Her husband and kid are like
- 11:40snuggling in bed with a single spotlight shining down from the
- 11:44heavens. And she's like, oh, all is
- 11:47forgiven. And I was like, I don't know,
- 11:49maybe I just hold more grudges than that.
- 11:52I think that also like we care about respecting our space,
- 11:56perhaps more. I think perhaps, perhaps if we
- 12:00had children we would love our houses less.
- 12:05We know what real love is. That's why I got my fucking
- 12:08tubes. Tied, absolutely.
- 12:10Because you know what? I'm not going to have a house
- 12:12with pee and poo all over. Oh thank God, when that kid was
- 12:17like, I missed and they go into the bathroom.
- 12:20Thank you. Thank you to Steve Carr for not
- 12:23showing us what that bathroom looked like.
- 12:25It was really a great creative choice too, because then the
- 12:28viewer gets to imagine what the shit covering the ceiling.
- 12:31And that's the scariest thing when you don't see the monster.
- 12:34It's just scariest, you know? And Eddie, it gave Eddie
- 12:37Murphy's reaction a chance to really shine.
- 12:40Oh my God. Because we got to read it
- 12:42through his perspective and I thought that was.
- 12:45Genius. Yeah, it was genius, Yeah.
- 12:46So thank you for not making us look at pee pee and poo poo.
- 12:50Something funny that I read online.
- 12:52The tagline for this movie was D-Day is Coming Like Daddy.
- 12:57Day. Yeah, but it's like a play on.
- 13:00Yeah, of course. I just it doesn't really feel
- 13:02like it fits. No, I don't think so.
- 13:04I think that that sometimes, you know, when a studio, the
- 13:07marketing department, they they see a short brief like what is
- 13:12this movie about? And so Dad, some and some
- 13:15copywriter said D-Day is coming and that's on bad copywriting.
- 13:21Yeah. Oh my God, You want to know
- 13:23something so exciting? OK, you know the the Instagram
- 13:29person who's like scram. No and no, sorry.
- 13:33You did OK. Well anyway, that person now
- 13:36follows the pod. Thank you so much.
- 13:37Thank you SCRAM person. And everyone else can go scram.
- 13:43OK, so yeah, generally unfavorable reviews of Daddy
- 13:47Daycare, but it was a box office success.
- 13:51How does that work? Well, it means that critically,
- 13:56like movie critics were like this was a flop.
- 13:59Oh, OK. Like this is not a good capital
- 14:01G movie where but people still went and saw it when it came out
- 14:07a lot of people bought tickets to see it.
- 14:10Right. Regardless of the reviews.
- 14:12So maybe they had really good marketing too.
- 14:15I imagine that they did. Yeah.
- 14:17I mean, with a line with a tagline like D-Day is coming,
- 14:20how could you? Not can't miss.
- 14:22Daddy Day Camp, the sequel which was released in 2007, had a 1%
- 14:28on Rotten Tomatoes. An.
- 14:31Absolute disaster. I can't believe.
- 14:35Well, I I haven't seen it. Have you?
- 14:37Well, no, I did hear that they didn't have any of the original
- 14:40actors. That's.
- 14:41True, they did not. Have any kind of lose the magic,
- 14:44you know? Yeah, exactly.
- 14:46Like we're saying, if Eddie Murphy wasn't in this, what?
- 14:49What is it? Yeah, some kids gel fanning
- 14:52which love that. That was kind of weird.
- 14:56I was like, is that her? It is her.
- 14:58But yeah, it's just there's some guy that isn't Jeff Garland
- 15:01getting kicked in the nuts, probably.
- 15:02Yeah. And who who wants to see that?
- 15:04No. OK.
- 15:06So as we said, we get introduced to Steve Zahn smelling the mail.
- 15:11We get introduced to Charlie and Phil.
- 15:14They're working. They work for this company that
- 15:17manufacturers and markets food. They're they're working for big.
- 15:22Food big. Big Food, big.
- 15:24Cereal. Yeah, maybe big cereal
- 15:26specifically, but they they're trying to sell Veggio's and it
- 15:31turns out that having a life-size broccoli and a
- 15:35life-size carrot is not what's going to sell it to these kids.
- 15:39And that's tough because they lose their jobs.
- 15:42Yeah. And that, I mean, that focus
- 15:45group scene was really upsetting.
- 15:49I just was like, I have never, I mean, I worked at a summer camp.
- 15:52I've never known kids to act like that.
- 15:55No, no kids that I know being so upset over cereal, right?
- 15:59Throwing the bowl at the two one way, two way mirror, whatever
- 16:02you call it, the two way mirror two way.
- 16:04Yeah, Speaking of two way, what? What is a two way I?
- 16:10Eddie Murphy's character says. I've got my beeper, I've got my
- 16:13cell, I've got my two way I. What is that?
- 16:15No idea. Gen.
- 16:16X did reach out to me. Are you just?
- 16:18Asking me that 'cause I'm older than you.
- 16:19No, I'm asking you because I thought maybe you would just
- 16:23have more knowledge than me. No, it did kind of look like a a
- 16:28texting machine. Yeah, would be my guess of what
- 16:31it is. But now I feel like the
- 16:33internet's gonna come after me with pitchforks like everyone
- 16:36aged 40 plus. Everyone is so mad at you.
- 16:41Thank God I'm not on there. Thank God.
- 16:43Thank God she's you can't find her.
- 16:45Yeah, and don't, don't contact Molly about my yoga classes,
- 16:49please. Please.
- 16:51OK and also I was confused is 6 weeks supposed to be a long time
- 16:57to find a job? Because remember, it's like he
- 17:00loses his job and then it's like 6 weeks later and he's like on
- 17:03the verge of bankruptcy and yeah, that he's like, Oh my God,
- 17:07it's been so long since I've had a job.
- 17:08I was like, is that supposed to be a long time?
- 17:10How so you're supposed to have like a three month reserve for
- 17:13your emergency fund, right? Allegedly, Yeah.
- 17:15Yeah. So unfortunately, I mean, I do
- 17:19think they might have had too much house.
- 17:21I agree. They had way too much house for
- 17:23just three people. Yeah.
- 17:24And they were a single income household before that because.
- 17:29Because she was just going back to work.
- 17:31Was just going back to work. Yeah.
- 17:33She had finished law school. That's right.
- 17:35So. Wow.
- 17:36Yeah. And where did they live?
- 17:37Do we know? Some suburb of some place, Yeah,
- 17:42I don't think they ever specified.
- 17:43This I mean also the idea that it wasn't just like a regular
- 17:49daycare making families go bankrupt like it was this
- 17:52massive prep school Academy preschool is also feels very
- 17:56dated. Yeah, the idea that, like,
- 17:59childcare is only expensive if you go to the expensive place,
- 18:02right. And while this expensive place
- 18:04did have a monopoly on the town, that's true.
- 18:08Yeah, it was a little 2000. What?
- 18:12What did this, what did we say 2003 little 2003?
- 18:15Well, actually I have no idea what childcare costs in 2003.
- 18:19Me neither, but I feel like people weren't talking about it
- 18:22but maybe because I was a child? They weren't talking to you
- 18:24about, they weren't saying Jackie, you're really draining
- 18:28the account with your childcare. I went to public school so.
- 18:31Yeah, sorry, I don't know about that.
- 18:32Yeah, yeah. Wait, you didn't?
- 18:33You went to private school? No, I went to public.
- 18:35School. OK, Yeah, God.
- 18:38My God, turned out normal, right?
- 18:41So, but I did go to, I went to like a Montessori school for
- 18:45preschool. Did you go to preschool?
- 18:51I don't remember. I was very young.
- 18:52She was very young. OK, I don't think so.
- 18:56Actually, I don't think I did. Really.
- 18:57Yeah. Oh OK, I think my brother just
- 18:59did and I don't know why that is but maybe I should inquire with
- 19:02my parents. Inquire, let us know.
- 19:04Yeah. OK, so then we get introduced to
- 19:09Angelica Houston, the headmistress of the Academy, and
- 19:15she is always holding that pointer.
- 19:17She's like got a pointer, a very cunty little pointer.
- 19:21And her little outfits she was. So cool yeah, I this is the
- 19:28theme with like movies when we were kids is the people we were
- 19:31supposed to hate as kids we actually love as adults.
- 19:34Oh my God. Like Meredith from You know What
- 19:40I'm Talking About. No, the gecko on her face.
- 19:43Oh, from the Parent Trap. Thank you.
- 19:45Parent Trap. Yes, love her.
- 19:46Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 19:48When she's like these kids, you know, 'cause I'm sort of like,
- 19:52yeah, you got it. Right, I can relate now.
- 19:55I can't, I get it. I understand why you would want
- 19:57kids to learn 5 different languages and shut the fuck up.
- 20:01It's very much giving. Kids should be neither seen nor
- 20:05heard. Yes, exactly.
- 20:07It was very spooky, but they did look so cute in those little
- 20:10uniforms. I know they were so.
- 20:12Tiny, I know. Let's talk about the kids and
- 20:14how cute they are. Ben.
- 20:16Oh my God. Literally the entire opening
- 20:18scene I was just like, I can't get over how adorable this
- 20:21child. Is was so cute and I love, I
- 20:24love when they treat in movies children like little adults.
- 20:30He's getting up, he's brushing his teeth, he's going to work,
- 20:33he's got a busy day. He's putting his SpongeBob
- 20:35slippers on. Oh my.
- 20:36God, it was adorable. I loved it.
- 20:38Yeah, I absolutely loved that kid.
- 20:42So. So there's like, basically it
- 20:47comes time that Regina King, she's got to go back to work.
- 20:52And they're like, well, we got to find, we got to find a
- 20:55daycare because this place is way too expensive.
- 20:59Not. In the budget.
- 21:00Not in the budget. So they go and they look at a
- 21:02couple of different places. This part kind of bummed me out.
- 21:05And they were like, Oh my God, it's a trailer park.
- 21:08As if people at trailer park don't know how to take care of
- 21:11kids. Right, another not so great
- 21:13trope with it. Cigarette in the mouth, like
- 21:16holding the baby, Yeah. Didn't love that.
- 21:20And then what were the other ones?
- 21:23The kind of trapdoor. The Trapdoor daycare, they said
- 21:29this is where the kids go and they opened up a.
- 21:31Trapdoor a cellar. Yeah.
- 21:33So obviously we don't want the kids to go there.
- 21:36No. So they're kind of at a loss.
- 21:40Like that was also very weapons. Oh my gosh, I wish that we were
- 21:48up and running around right now so we can go like that.
- 21:50Oh, man, that is my favorite way.
- 21:53My favorite method of transportation is weapons, arms.
- 21:57People say bike walk or run or or bus or car, and I say
- 22:04weapons, arms, jog. Weapons, arms, jog.
- 22:05Yeah. So anyways, so yeah, that was
- 22:09giving weapons. We certainly don't want that,
- 22:11No. And then somebody says, if
- 22:15someone opened a daycare around here, they'd make a killing.
- 22:18A light bulb goes off Ding. And so they're like, OK, well,
- 22:24we're dads. And so this is daddy daycare.
- 22:27And they're they're, you know, kind of doing some field
- 22:32marketing. They're they're setting up
- 22:35guerrilla marketing. Absolutely guerrilla marketing
- 22:39like crazy. They've got lemonade stand,
- 22:42basically marketing what they've got, and there are these women
- 22:46that come up and they say there were guys, these are men.
- 22:52And she made. Children, yeah, they said it's
- 22:55kind of creepy and that was crazy.
- 23:01But I will say there was there was a dad who didn't know if his
- 23:04kid was potty trained. Was that Phil or was that, which
- 23:08one was that? I don't remember.
- 23:10Somebody, some dad, some parent didn't know if their kid was
- 23:13potty trained and I said. Oh, I think he was just like a
- 23:16walk on, kind of like. Oh yeah.
- 23:18They were like, is he potty trained?
- 23:19And he was like, I don't know. It's not my job.
- 23:21And then later we find out Phil does not change diapers and that
- 23:25jail, jail, maximum security, federal prison, no opportunity
- 23:30for parole. Absolutely not.
- 23:32I it is they based a whole movie on the idea that like men could
- 23:39care for children, right? Like.
- 23:41Isn't that crazy? It's.
- 23:44Just of the times I guess. I guess I mean still like if you
- 23:48look at like child care employees.
- 23:53Oh yeah. Overwhelmingly underpaid women.
- 23:57Criminally underpaid women. We meet Al Fanning.
- 24:02We meet all the kids, they burp bubbles.
- 24:04We find out Phil can't change a diaper.
- 24:08There's a kid who, oh, I think it's Phil's kid that's like I
- 24:12missed. I missed.
- 24:14And again, I'm glad that they didn't show us the poop.
- 24:17They are approached by CPS, called upon by Angelica
- 24:23Houston's character to kind of just check out, make sure that
- 24:27they're compliant. They make those changes
- 24:29overnight. And they they really got up off
- 24:33their asses and worked. And they accepted.
- 24:36Mr. Cubits accepted the string of.
- 24:40What is that called where you like cut it out and oh the
- 24:43string of children? Holding it, the holding hands,
- 24:46children cutouts. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:49He was like. No problem.
- 24:50I said sign. Sign on her head here.
- 24:52In the back of her elbow here. Totally.
- 24:54Yeah. He really was trying to work
- 24:56with them. I thought he was an ally.
- 24:57Yeah. And he's like, look, you got
- 25:00more kids now you got to hire a third person.
- 25:02So they hire Steve Zahn, who smells.
- 25:04The male loved him, loved him. I loved Steve Zahn doing
- 25:09anything. What else is he in?
- 25:12He is. Most recently he was in White
- 25:14Lotus. That's right.
- 25:16My favorite performance of his is in That Thing You Do where he
- 25:20plays band member in a 1960s kind of pop band directed by Tom
- 25:26Hanks. But yeah, he's in a lot of
- 25:29stuff. Everything he's in is great,
- 25:31great. And he's kind of a weirdo, but
- 25:35he's a really sweet weirdo and he's really good with kids.
- 25:40And he knows that because he watches Star Trek and read a
- 25:43book. I.
- 25:45Love that the Parenting the Doctor Spock parenting guide,
- 25:49which he says surprisingly not about Star Trek.
- 25:55Yeah. And, and he, he knows how to do
- 25:57it all. You have those kids like.
- 25:58Read. Hypnotized.
- 26:01That's the word I'm looking for. Hypnotized.
- 26:02They really hypnotized. Be a chicken.
- 26:04Yeah, that is so true. Really impressive.
- 26:07Have you ever seen a person get hypnotized before?
- 26:10Or have you? Done it.
- 26:11No. OK, when I was in college at
- 26:13orientation weekend and I guess they they did this like every
- 26:16year, they would bring in this hypnotist who would get people
- 26:21on stage and like make them do embarrassing shit.
- 26:24What? Yeah, the first week went to
- 26:26college, like, I don't know, like, Oh my God.
- 26:28That's like career defining. I know.
- 26:31And I was like, I don't think I believe it.
- 26:34I think people are just. Like they were plants I.
- 26:36Think they were plants? Did you ever see those students
- 26:38again? Never seen them in the same room
- 26:40as No I did see them again I think.
- 26:43I think can't remember. Yeah, that sucks.
- 26:47I don't really like that. I know, tough.
- 26:49Yeah. Being a freshman in college is
- 26:51tough enough already, you know. OK, so so they start getting
- 26:59kids from the prep school Academy, bringing them over to
- 27:04daddy daycare where they have fun.
- 27:07They start getting their act together and they and they have
- 27:11fun with the kids. I would say thanks to Steve
- 27:14Zahn. If he wasn't there, they'd be.
- 27:17It would just be as chaotic as it was on day one.
- 27:20Well, day one, they they fed the kids their meal was like Ding
- 27:25Dongs and yeah, freaking, I don't know, every Hostess under
- 27:28the sun. Yeah, and there was that girl
- 27:32that is allergic to every type of sugar.
- 27:34Yeah, that was, I was like, hope she has an EpiPen.
- 27:38I now that I'm an EpiPen girl, I never wanted to be, but I'm
- 27:42like, that girl would be not doing well.
- 27:45Yeah. So thank God.
- 27:48Steve zon zon Zod zon Steve Zod. So thank God for him because
- 27:56he's the only one who could probably keep track of students,
- 27:58allergies students, You know, I guess they were learning.
- 28:05There's a scene where they provoke the bees.
- 28:10Remember that? I didn't think that was
- 28:12necessary. There were some gags that I was
- 28:15like, we're spending more time away from Eddie Murphy and his
- 28:20silly faces and his funny lines. Right.
- 28:23Well, that I think the bees were during the cheap trick supercut,
- 28:26right? That's right, and Cheap Trick
- 28:29was the band playing at Yeah, the fundraiser as themselves.
- 28:34Do you think when they approached Cheap Trick and we're
- 28:37like, we want to use your song in this movie, they were like,
- 28:39only if we're in it too. I think that they were like only
- 28:42if there are bees, only if. There are bees.
- 28:46And you know what? Bees so endangered we should not
- 28:49be. It's true.
- 28:50Killing the bees. That's a really good point.
- 28:52They're. Not our enemies.
- 28:54So that's what I it's very. Robin Wall, camera of you.
- 28:57Thank you so much. A huge shout out to sponsor of
- 29:01Dude IDK spider moving and storage.
- 29:04I recently used them to move into my new place and couldn't
- 29:08be happier with how efficient they were.
- 29:11They were so kind, they made it look so easy and it was just top
- 29:14notch experience. So definitely recommend that you
- 29:17check them out if you've got a move coming up.

- 29:33OK, Cargo shorts, No. Let's talk about it.
- 29:36Let's talk about cargo shorts. They do not look good on
- 29:39anybody. Eddie Murphy is a very handsome
- 29:41man and he's got, you know, nice legs.
- 29:45Probably you couldn't tell in his stupid cargo shorts A go all
- 29:51the way back like the knee. Like yeah, I think cargo shorts
- 29:54should only be, I think really all men's shorts should only be
- 29:58what, like 5 inch inseam? Is that the reasonable?
- 30:01I would say that's. Pretty inseam, Yeah, I would say
- 30:03that's reasonable. I need to see if you have like
- 30:06the weird thigh quad muscle. Oh, yeah.
- 30:09You know, I want to see. I want to see it.
- 30:12Whether you have it or not, I'd like to see.
- 30:14Prove to me that you have thighs is kind of how I feel.
- 30:17Totally. It's like, I don't really care
- 30:18what those sides look like. I just want to know that they're
- 30:21there. And look, if you don't have legs
- 30:24at all, I'm so sorry. This this doesn't apply.
- 30:26Yeah, sorry. But for those of us who do have
- 30:30legs, especially, especially guys, yeah, shorten them up a
- 30:36little bit. Short shorts.
- 30:37Short shorts. No cargo shorts anymore?
- 30:40Please no. Like what could you possibly be
- 30:42carrying? Truly like I don't why would?
- 30:45Your mistresses. Probably.
- 30:49Probably dirty tissues. Yeah, They're reusing the same
- 30:57tissues. You know what I mean?
- 30:59Like when they're just like they're, they use a tissue, it's
- 31:03dirty, they put it in their pocket and later they take it
- 31:06out crusty. Well I think it depends if it
- 31:08was like 1 fold. Oh, well, you know, of course,
- 31:11of course. It's already like this and I.
- 31:13Understand, you know, handkerchief kind of a different
- 31:15situation, but. Yeah, I want to get behind
- 31:19handkerchiefs, but I just. It's hard.
- 31:21I know it is hard, right? Anyway, anyway.
- 31:24That's not what we're here to talk about.
- 31:27It's not what the listeners demanded to hear from us the way
- 31:30that they demanded to hear our thoughts on daddy daycare.
- 31:33So true. OK.
- 31:36Do you Did you recognize the the little minion?
- 31:40Oh, yeah. Headmistress Gretchen Wieners.
- 31:43Wieners. Yum.
- 31:44Very. Odd hair that she.
- 31:46Had there. Very odd.
- 31:48This was the hair straight. Well, so was Mean Girls was hair
- 31:51straightening era. It was, yeah.
- 31:53But she didn't. But she had curly hair in that
- 31:55one. Well, I think it's because they
- 31:57needed her hair to be big, because it's full of secrets,
- 32:00you know what I mean? That's why her hair's so big.
- 32:03It's. Full of secrets.
- 32:04That's. That was Gretchen Weiner's hair
- 32:05was full of secrets. Yeah.
- 32:06Oh, OK. I couldn't remember who's
- 32:08contained the secrets. Yeah.
- 32:10But yeah, you're probably right. Yeah, that's probably, probably
- 32:13they did it for just that line. Couldn't believe she was in
- 32:16this. I like to believe that this is
- 32:18the same cinematic universe and that that character's dad
- 32:21invented Toaster Strudel and that's how she got that job.
- 32:24She's a Nebo baby in the bougie preschool world because of her
- 32:28toaster strudel dad. Totally.
- 32:30Oh you know what? I bet her Toaster Strudel dad
- 32:32worked at that same company. Oh my God, what if her dad was
- 32:37that guy? Molly, you were blowing this
- 32:40thing wide open. Oh my God I think this is
- 32:43plausible. I I I didn't see any of this on
- 32:45Reddit so. Wow, OK, well we need to sign on
- 32:49to Reddit. Yeah, we're going to need to
- 32:50make some. Posts Please upvote our post on
- 32:55Daddy Daycare subreddit. Which subreddit did you see the
- 32:59commentary about Daddy Daycare? Do you remember?
- 33:01I don't remember. That's OK.
- 33:02Like rewatching movies I think was 1.
- 33:05Oh. If or something like that OK,
- 33:07which I was like, hey, you can't steal Molly's podcast, but
- 33:11below. Did that age well if anyone says
- 33:15those words in succession and they're not talking about
- 33:19podcast? We're very litigious around the
- 33:23the did that age well pod. Absolutely.
- 33:27OK, Yeah. Gretchen Wieners, Toaster
- 33:29Strudel. I thought it was funny that the
- 33:33bees kind of came back at the end of the movie.
- 33:36You know, there were the bees in the backyard and then there were
- 33:39the bees again with the headmistress.
- 33:41They sort of found her when she had a flower.
- 33:45In her pocket. That's right.
- 33:47But again I say, what do the bees do?
- 33:50It didn't feel like it added much.
- 33:51Like I I was watching that scene just being like, OK, it's kind
- 33:54of a weird way to end the movie. They could have ended it with
- 33:56him giving her the flower. Yeah, 'cause it was like, these
- 33:59kids are sweet. Yeah, and she is now directing
- 34:03traffic in her. Yeah, Louboutins.
- 34:05And like, that's bad enough, you know what I mean?
- 34:07Like that's punishment enough that she would have to direct
- 34:10traffic in her Louboutins. Yeah, I think it could be a kind
- 34:13of a cool job, actually. Really.
- 34:15Yeah. Do you remember?
- 34:16OK, Did you ever watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?
- 34:19Yeah. I love when she takes the career
- 34:21test and they say that she should be a crossing guard.
- 34:26Iconic. Iconic.
- 34:28She does have the temperament for it though.
- 34:31Big time, Big time. I love God.
- 34:34I loved everything about her. I mean, she was so evil yet.
- 34:40Wait, Kimmy Schmidt. No, no.
- 34:42I meant Kimmy at the temperament for crossing guard.
- 34:44Oh, I thought that you meant Angelica.
- 34:46I thought you meant Angelica Houston because she's kind of a
- 34:49tough broad. Oh no.
- 34:51But you think it's more important to be friendly as a
- 34:53crossing guard? Kind of more cheery.
- 34:56Yeah, firm but fair. Oh, OK.
- 34:57Yeah, yeah, OK. I like that she's a manager.
- 35:00Or she was. Like me, you.
- 35:02Oh yeah. Yeah, it was.
- 35:04It was. Do you think that maybe you'll
- 35:07start a daddy daycare? I watching this movie, I was
- 35:12like, oh, I do kind of miss working at a summer camp.
- 35:15Yeah, like, that was that was quite fun.
- 35:17Yeah. And I would be lying if I said I
- 35:20hadn't looked into opportunities to be a summer camp counselor
- 35:25again. Totally.
- 35:26I think it's not because I enjoy working with kids so much, but
- 35:30that I get to kind of be a kid. I think that it's just so fun to
- 35:33be at camp. Yeah, it is so tragic that
- 35:35summer camp isn't until the summer because that is a long
- 35:39time from now. There's not winter camp, I don't
- 35:41know, like winter break camp. Yeah.
- 35:42Do kids go on winter break camp? I went to like when I was
- 35:45younger. I went on like youth group
- 35:48retreats in the winter. Yeah.
- 35:52Maybe you should become religious.
- 35:57We found God on this couch at dude.
- 35:58IDK. Oh my God.
- 36:05But love and light to all of you.
- 36:10OK, what else? What else, What else?
- 36:12What else? I think that like the main, the
- 36:17main thing, I just want to circle back to the premise of
- 36:21this movie as you know, Oh my God, it's so unbelievable that
- 36:27dads would parent children. But I think the fact that they
- 36:34they really framed it from my perspective as like, oh, these
- 36:38people are flopping in the beginning or they're floundering
- 36:41rather, because these men have never run a daycare before.
- 36:46They're capable parents. They they sort of like criticize
- 36:50each other being like, well, you're not even a good dad and
- 36:54he's like, well, you don't even know how to change your kids
- 36:55diaper like we're supposed to. I think that we are meant to
- 36:58believe like these are good parents.
- 37:01It's just hard to run a daycare. And it wasn't because they were
- 37:05men. It was because it's just a hard
- 37:09thing to do. And I didn't feel as though
- 37:13they, I didn't feel as though like the punchline was, Oh my
- 37:17God, it's so funny because they're grown men taking care of
- 37:21kids. I don't know.
- 37:22It's like the premise of of the story.
- 37:25It kind of sets it up for, you know, a surprise.
- 37:29But the fact that they succeeded too made me feel like, OK,
- 37:34they're this movie isn't saying, Oh my God, they need a woman
- 37:39with maternal instincts to come in here and whip them into
- 37:42shape. They needed Steve Zahn.
- 37:44Right. Because, I mean, I don't think
- 37:46Angelica Houston really had maternal instincts.
- 37:48No offense to her, no offense, amazing character, but quite
- 37:52cold, quite cold. So yeah, I totally agree.
- 37:56And I think it is like, it's not that you're a bad parent, but I
- 37:58think a lot of parents say when you go from like the man to man
- 38:02to zone defense, you just have more kids.
- 38:04It's like, yeah, it's going to be harder to keep tabs on them.
- 38:07Like, one kids probably going to be shitting on the ceiling and
- 38:10one kids probably going to be eating a lot of maltodextrose
- 38:12when she's not supposed to. Totally.
- 38:14So yeah, yeah, I, yeah. Yeah, like it didn't.
- 38:19It didn't bother me in the way that I thought it would bother
- 38:23me. Like when I thought back to
- 38:25daddy daycare, I was like, oh, God, this is just going to be
- 38:28trope after trope of like, dads don't know how to do anything
- 38:32and they shouldn't because they're just baby.
- 38:35Like when someone, when a dad says I'm going to babysit my
- 38:38kids and it's like, actually, no, that's not what this is.
- 38:41It's parenting. Yeah.
- 38:43Have you ever heard that before? Like someone who's a dad be
- 38:45like. I haven't, but now that is like,
- 38:49oh, I got a shiver when you said that.
- 38:50Totally. I don't know that many parents.
- 38:56Yeah, I guess, do I? You know yours.
- 39:00Yeah, I do. Yeah, you know mine.
- 39:06I do. I've never heard your dad say
- 39:08he's going to babysit you. No, and I've never heard my dad
- 39:15say that either. And you never 'cause he's a real
- 39:17parent. 'Cause you're not a baby.
- 39:19And also because I'm not a baby. Right.
- 39:22How did we get here? Dads, they, I thought that this
- 39:26was going to be a movie about how funny it is that dads don't
- 39:30know how to parent. But it wasn't.
- 39:32It wasn't a movie about how dads don't know how to parent or how
- 39:35dads shouldn't parent because women are so much like, you
- 39:38know, so much better. And they have weaponized
- 39:41incompetence or whatever that is.
- 39:43Instead, it was about them, you know, define expectations that
- 39:50came from more close minded people who said that's creepy
- 39:55that you're men running a daycare, etcetera.
- 39:58They so they proved them wrong. They they proved that child care
- 40:03is more than just letting kids run around and play.
- 40:07I mean, play is important but like in the beginning they're
- 40:10like how hard could it be? Well, it's more than letting
- 40:12them run around and play, but it's also more than making them
- 40:15learn 5 languages, right? Exactly.
- 40:17And they, and they really show that, like when you pay
- 40:20attention to what kids want and need and you bring Steve Zahn
- 40:26around to do some stuff to deliver that they're going to
- 40:33create an environment where these kids can thrive.
- 40:36And it's like, ultimately it's about the kids being happy.
- 40:39When you focus group your kids, yeah, you probably end up with a
- 40:43pretty good business. I hope so do more focus groups.
- 40:46Yeah, I think it was also, I mean, there's also elements of
- 40:50like the class stuff, right, with the preppy school and just
- 40:58like Dad's be Dad's. I think that was also kind of a
- 41:03core message, like, totally when he realized, no, I don't
- 41:06actually want to be at this crappy corporate job where we're
- 41:11discussing how to sell cotton candy to children.
- 41:15Yeah, as their first meal of the day.
- 41:17And you know what? I am so grateful that they never
- 41:20villainized Regina King's character for going back to
- 41:24work. Yeah, that's true.
- 41:25Like it would have been so easy for them to make the tension
- 41:30between mom and dad about like, well, you went back to work and
- 41:34left me with my kid or whatever, you know, like, I think it would
- 41:40have been easy for them to like, put it on her to be like, well,
- 41:42why doesn't she stay home? Yeah, but.
- 41:45Instead, they didn't. That was that was very modern of
- 41:49them. Very modern of them.
- 41:50The absence of of bad behavior sometimes equals good when we're
- 41:57talking about a movie from 2003. Can we talk about Mr. Kubitz?
- 42:02Absolutely. OK, I'm dying to.
- 42:03Talk about him. Let's talk about.
- 42:05Him. Mr. Kubitz, the CPS guy or what?
- 42:08Where was he with? Yeah, he says to that he's from.
- 42:11CPS OK. Do you also think he was
- 42:15Kirkland's signature? Stanley Tucci.
- 42:19Oh wow. Kind of, right?
- 42:22I think that he was perhaps, and this is no, this is this is no
- 42:28knock on him, but really more of a reflection of how I feel about
- 42:31Stanley Tucci. I feel like he was more of like
- 42:34the maybe Kroger brand Stanley Tucci.
- 42:40Wow. You know, not quite Kirkland,
- 42:42but sort of more Kroger. I could see that.
- 42:44And he's like, for the people, yeah, yeah.
- 42:47But not of the people. Yeah, Yeah, I could see that.
- 42:52I just love his puppet show. I mean, Oh my gosh.
- 42:56That puppet show was so funny. Playing out his therapy for the
- 42:59incredible 4 year olds. They're in puppet theatre and
- 43:03then they they're enraptured. I think probably confused.
- 43:07Fair. Sure, we're all confused in
- 43:10those situations, Mr. Cupids. But when they kiss?
- 43:14When the puppets kiss. Yeah, Oh my God, when the
- 43:17puppets kiss. So cute.
- 43:19I loved it. Yeah.
- 43:21What else? What else do we need to talk
- 43:22about with him? I just, I mean, I loved him.
- 43:25He was probably one of my. Favorite characters?
- 43:26He was so funny. He was so earnest.
- 43:28Very earnest, very genuine, very like.
- 43:30He's a good dude. You know it.
- 43:32They didn't even villainize CPSI.
- 43:34Know I thought that was great they could have made him another
- 43:37villain they could have made him the take your kids away guy yeah
- 43:41and instead he was like look, I'm just here with compliance
- 43:44like I'm just trying I'm just trying to make sure that you
- 43:48guys sign the right paperwork like I'm so sorry and he seemed
- 43:53genuinely like he wanted to help them out you.
- 43:55Good for the kids, I think. I think he really cared about
- 43:57the kids too, when he spent a little bit of time with them,
- 44:00when he was able to get their attention.
- 44:02I think that's part of it is that there's like, you feel this
- 44:05kind of like magic when you're able to keep these little brains
- 44:12occupied, you know, like, because they can't pay attention
- 44:15for more than like 3 seconds. And when you get them to pay
- 44:18attention for 30 seconds or more, it's like, I'm
- 44:22unstoppable, right? What can't I do, right?
- 44:24And I think maybe he was kind of high on that.
- 44:26I think you're probably right about that, which reminds me
- 44:29that the comment Jeff Garland's character made about we need
- 44:34Ritalin and leashes. Yeah, I just wrote that down
- 44:38because I would like to incorporate that into my
- 44:40day-to-day life. We need Ritalin unleashes.
- 44:45For this so true. And let me tell you, there's a
- 44:50lot of things right now in my life that I say we need some
- 44:52Ritalin unleashes big time. We're gonna have to talk about
- 44:56that later. First of all, your portraits and
- 45:01artwork that you need to put up on your wall.
- 45:03Let's talk about that, bring that up on the pod.
- 45:07Making this everybody else's business now.
- 45:09But by the time that this episode comes out, you'll have
- 45:12your artwork up on your wall. Because you know what?
- 45:15That's why she put me on the pod today.
- 45:17It is. She's holding me hostage.
- 45:19Ritalin and leashes, babe, that's what we need.
- 45:22I moved into my condo just about one year ago.
- 45:25You didn't have to tell them that.
- 45:26You could have said I just moved in.
- 45:28I could have lied. Feel like you're going to air my
- 45:32dirty laundry. What else is there to TikTok
- 45:34without me? I don't have any other dirty
- 45:36laundry of yours to air because everything that you do is
- 45:39squeaky clean. Thank you.
- 45:40Well, I just haven't hung up my artwork, people.
- 45:43She's got a lot of really. Good artwork, a lot of good art,
- 45:45but they are laying against the wall on the floor.
- 45:49She does have a really, really tall wall.
- 45:52Like it's going to require a ladder.
- 45:54Tall Wall? Powell Wall?
- 45:55Isn't that Pall wall? Pow wow.
- 45:57Pow wow. Anyway, yeah, it's gonna require
- 46:02a ladder. It's gonna require, I mean, any,
- 46:06what are they called when you put a lot of pictures on the
- 46:08wall? Gallery wall.
- 46:09Any gallery wall wall requires a lot of planning I think.
- 46:13It does, and girl, you've been busy working a demanding.
- 46:17Job. Wow.
- 46:18Thank you. It's true and.
- 46:21You're not just saying that 'cause I'm unemployed and.
- 46:25Now I say I'm here to help. Thank you.
- 46:29With Ritalin and leashes, right? It's going down.
- 46:34It's. Going down.
- 46:37But guess what? You're not on social media, so
- 46:39no one's gonna come after you and bother you about this.
- 46:42I am the only one who's going to bother you about this, and I
- 46:45know that it's possible. I feel like a month from now or
- 46:48when, I don't know, when this comes out tomorrow, tomorrow,
- 46:54whatever. In the not so distant future,
- 46:57you are going to hold up your phone to me and show me comments
- 47:02after we've gone viral, of course.
- 47:03Obviously. Yeah, comments of everyone
- 47:05saying Jackie, hang up your damn art.
- 47:07Yeah, and if you're listening to this, I'd love the engagement.
- 47:11Just go ahead and comment on this episode, Jackie.
- 47:14Hang up your damn art, and I will pass it along to her.
- 47:16Yeah. Shane's a really powerful
- 47:17motivator for me for. Sure, but by the time this comes
- 47:20out it'll be irrelevant because you will have already hung up
- 47:23your artwork. You're saying?
- 47:26Yeah. How much money do you think that
- 47:29Eddie Murphy's character made at his job?
- 47:31Because again, they he said that they were going to double his
- 47:35salary to come back girl. Yeah, right.
- 47:40No. Yeah, In what world?
- 47:42Because he said cotton candy cereal, which was a joke.
- 47:46Offhanded. Can you imagine having an idea
- 47:49that someone thought was so good that they doubled your salary?
- 47:54I feel like we've had ideas that good and no one's touched our
- 47:57salaries. Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:59Frankly, most of the ideas we have.
- 48:02Genius. I I presented an idea today.
- 48:05Someone asked if we had ideas for something, and I presented
- 48:07an idea that I swear to God, if I don't get credit for it, I'm
- 48:14gonna. I want to hear about it off pod.
- 48:19Obviously, but if if no one gives me credit for it, I'm
- 48:24going to scream. You just want like, verbal
- 48:27credit, like like night. Nice idea, Molly.
- 48:29I want people when this idea takes off, I want them to say,
- 48:34remember Molly Smith? This was her idea.
- 48:36I want someone to post about it on LinkedIn and tag me say Molly
- 48:41Smith. Thanks for the idea.
- 48:42And not remember Molly Smith because she's dead, but remember
- 48:44her because she now is the CEO of Apple.
- 48:48Exactly. Oh, this is so relevant to what
- 48:52I my idea was, and I can't say it.
- 48:55Oh, my God. OK, this is so tough.
- 48:59But anyway, yeah, that was crazy that they were going to double
- 49:02his salary. And he said, you know what, no,
- 49:05I don't want to spend time at this corporate.
- 49:08Well, no, he said yes at first. He.
- 49:09Said yes, he was like, I kind of have.
- 49:12To yeah, honestly fair. And would I do the same?
- 49:15Yeah, probably, yeah. Money talks.
- 49:17And he talks and it seems like just a lot of work, that
- 49:22daycare. I was kind of like, oh, if it
- 49:25were me, I'd be so relieved to have an out.
- 49:28Yeah. But then he gets into a meeting
- 49:32corporate, he's in the boardroom, and he says, you know
- 49:34what? No, I care more about my kid.
- 49:40And that's odd. Yeah, he said.
- 49:44I quit. I quit, my son is important.
- 49:47Yeah, my adorable son. Now that kid is so insanely
- 49:54cute. How did they find the cutest
- 49:57kids, These little kids? How do you like?
- 50:00How do you create? Was really cute too.
- 50:02So cute. Every single kid, there was not
- 50:04one kid that I was like, that kid's not that cute.
- 50:06Yeah, they were all cute. And I just don't understand,
- 50:09like, as a director, how you create an environment for kids
- 50:13to make them deliver in that way.
- 50:16Like, that is such AI will say, Steve Carr, if you're listening.
- 50:21I don't know if it was you or if there was somebody else in
- 50:24leadership on set that really, like, coach those kids up.
- 50:28Yeah, because God Dang, they were so good.
- 50:33So good and what I loved about this movie and what I miss about
- 50:38movies, I think in general, is the blooper reels.
- 50:42I was just about to say. I know, OK, because the kids are
- 50:45not going to get it right every time.
- 50:46No one gets it right every time. It was so cute, the blooper
- 50:49where the kid was like, yeah, I want a peanut butter and Jelly
- 50:52sandwich. And he was like, after we're
- 50:54done with this scene. It was cute.
- 50:59I God bring back they should. Have kept it in the movie
- 51:02honestly. Honestly, so cute.
- 51:05And you could tell like Eddie Murphy was, I don't think he was
- 51:08phoning it in because even in the Bluebirds, you could tell
- 51:10that he was in his scenes with this child.
- 51:13He was showing up as a professional.
- 51:15He was like, like the kid messed up a line and he was like,
- 51:18what's my line again? And he was like, oh, no, no, it
- 51:21was my fault. Like I said the wrong thing.
- 51:23Like, you know, let me let me deliver the correct line.
- 51:25And I was like, that's that's a professional right there.
- 51:29Yeah. He's like, this is my scene
- 51:31partner. This is not just a tiny little
- 51:33human. This is my, this is a fellow
- 51:35actor. This is.
- 51:36And I have respect. For you, we're actually in SAG
- 51:39together. Yeah, totally.
- 51:41We'll be. We'll be this.
- 51:42Is my colleague. Yeah, we're colleagues.
- 51:44Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:47I hope that those kids are all doing well.
- 51:49Elle Fanning sure is. Did you look any?
- 51:50Yeah, that's. True, I did look there are like
- 51:53some of the the main kids like Flash and the poo poo pee pee
- 51:57kid and the the, you know, main kid.
- 52:03They went on to have careers and they like are still working and.
- 52:07Like acting careers or oh OK. Yeah, one of them, though.
- 52:12Really sad. Are you ready?
- 52:16OK, so one of them was essayed by an older woman who's an actor
- 52:24who she came and they like settled for like $350,000 or
- 52:30something. And he was like really messed up
- 52:35because of that. Obviously, who wouldn't be?
- 52:38But she it's really fascinating because she was also a victim of
- 52:42Harvey Weinstein. And so it's sort of like this
- 52:45cycle of abuse, you know? But but some of the other women
- 52:51who would come forward about Weinstein, like openly
- 52:56criticized this woman because they were like, girl, you got to
- 53:03do the right thing, right? Right.
- 53:04You got to do the recycle, break the cycle, like make it right.
- 53:07Don't, don't, don't deny that this happened anyway.
- 53:11So like he did get his, he did get his check, but it's really
- 53:14messed up. So kids in Hollywood, we got to
- 53:18protect them. There's like, no, there's no
- 53:20protection in a real meaningful way still for kids in Hollywood,
- 53:25in my opinion. I know that people are going to
- 53:27come at me and say, like, well, there's this law and this law.
- 53:29But like, it's just, it's just like such a grueling, exploitive
- 53:36environment. And we put so much blame on kids
- 53:40themselves being like, well, you know, they were child actors and
- 53:43now they're fucked up. And I just think that we should
- 53:48all be like Eddie Murphy and treat them as colleagues.
- 53:50Yeah, I agree. I agree.
- 53:52If we're actors, which I'm not, but.
- 53:55Yes, not one of the Reddit threads.
- 53:56They were like, oh, I can't believe Elle Fanning.
- 53:59You know, she was clearly acting since she was very young.
- 54:03Yeah, totally seems to have had. I don't know.
- 54:06Yeah, I mean she and her sister. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:09Good for the fannings. Really good for them.
- 54:11Proud of proud of those girls. Yeah, but what was I going to
- 54:16say about the about the kid actors?
- 54:19And what we, you know, what movies they were in maybe.
- 54:21Oh yeah, yeah, nothing, nothing incredibly notable, but.
- 54:27But one of them now is kind of like a he's got like a in
- 54:30Instagram comedy series. He's like doing like sketch
- 54:34comedy. Is it good?
- 54:36Haven't watched it. Oh, I read about it on
- 54:38wikipedia.com. OK, yeah, I kind of want to see
- 54:41it. Yeah.
- 54:42Which kid? I think it was the kid who I
- 54:47think it was the poo poo pee pee kid.
- 54:48Oh, good for poo poo pee pee kid.
- 54:51Yeah, I think so too. Kid actors, yeah, the way that
- 55:01we treat kid actors doesn't age well, but I think it was cool to
- 55:06see that. I don't know, I just like, I
- 55:09truly, I cannot wrap my mind around how they how you direct
- 55:13children. No.
- 55:14Who are like four and five years old.
- 55:16Right. It'd be like trying to direct
- 55:19those cockroaches that they put on the.
- 55:22Exactly. Salad.
- 55:23What do you call that? The salad.
- 55:25The potato salad Potato. Salad.
- 55:26Thank you. I almost said cabbage salad.
- 55:28Don't know why. And that's perfectly fine
- 55:30because it's like you weren't there now.
- 55:33No, the cockroaches really kind of stole your attention away
- 55:36from the food that they were on. Which call Back to yoga training
- 55:42in Mexico. Did I tell you this?
- 55:45I did. Yeah.
- 55:46I did have a cockroach in my bed one night.
- 55:49It was small, thank. God, thank God, but.
- 55:53You know, it's like pulling my sheet over and I see.
- 55:58Creepy, creepy, creepy, horrible and.
- 56:00Then we had a gecko on the wall. Which was just.
- 56:02Kind of cute. Like I think he was living in
- 56:04the in the sconce. Cool.
- 56:05Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 56:06Neighbor. Neighbor.
- 56:08Roomy, roomy love that. Oh my gosh, I loved, loved,
- 56:13loved, loved the Headmistress and Gretchen Wieners in their
- 56:16country little outfits going to the fundraiser.
- 56:20So they go to this fundraiser to try and create chaos, sabotage,
- 56:25make make sure that those people don't make any money.
- 56:28So they let all the animals out of the petting zoo.
- 56:32They put cockroaches in the potato salad.
- 56:34They turn on the sprinkler. They what else do they do?
- 56:38They deflated the bouncy house. So dangerous.
- 56:42Really dangerous, like they could have suffocated children.
- 56:45Yeah. Hello.
- 56:48You know, obviously she doesn't really care about kids.
- 56:50Right. But you know what?
- 56:51OK, You know, what's really frustrating is that like
- 56:55anytime, anytime that you talk about like protecting kids,
- 56:59especially when you're like, talking about like protecting
- 57:02kids from like predators and stuff like that, it feels so Q
- 57:06Anon to say, and I'm like, why did Q Anon get to have a
- 57:10monopoly on like protecting kids from predators?
- 57:13You know what I'm saying? It's like, can't we all just be
- 57:16like, concerned? Right.
- 57:16I thought that was just kind of something we were all into.
- 57:19Like, I thought that that was something we all agreed on.
- 57:21And now it's like, you sound like AQ an honor when you
- 57:24express like, oh, well, what about the children?
- 57:27You know? And it's like, OK, but you know,
- 57:31but I mean it in the good way, not in the crazy way.
- 57:34Right, right, right. And listener, viewer, I hope
- 57:37that you know that. And I hope that you're not Q
- 57:39Anon. And I hope that if you are Q
- 57:43Anon that you rethink that. Yeah, reconsider.
- 57:47Except for the kids. Yeah, totally.
- 57:49Like we do want to still protect kids, but not against like the
- 57:52Illuminati, right. Yeah, just protect well, but
- 57:56still, I mean, if the Illuminati.
- 57:58Right. Do we want to?
- 57:59I mean, we might want to protect them against the Illuminati.
- 58:02I don't know. I don't.
- 58:02Want the illuminati does Q Anon? Is this AQ Anon pod?
- 58:08Is. This A and.
- 58:09Scene and that's that. Thank you so much for joining
- 58:13us, like and subscribe. No, it could really I mean it.
- 58:16I think that it depends on whether or not like the Q Anon
- 58:21listeners will like continue to engage because like we need
- 58:24repeat engagement. You know, we don't want a one
- 58:26and done. Like I just listened to this one
- 58:28podcast where they were sympathetic to Q Anon, which is
- 58:31not what happened. Not weird, not what's happening.
- 58:35It's still not happening, yeah. It's more of just like a shout
- 58:40out to Q Anon right to. Say we.
- 58:44We know you're. Out there, we know you're out
- 58:46there. We know you're watching.
- 58:47And we certainly know you're watching.
- 58:49And like, stop making the protecting kids thing your
- 58:53thing. Yeah, but also like and
- 58:55subscribe. Yes.
- 58:57Absolutely not in a weird way. Not in a weird way.
- 59:00Let's try to comment a really nice comment.
- 59:03Nice comment. Thank you, Jackie.
- 59:06What else do we need to discuss? I feel as though I have done a
- 59:09horrible job of keeping us on track.
- 59:12And now I've done a pretty good job of keeping us on track.
- 59:14I keep derailing. No, I think the train, the train
- 59:18was never quite on the tracks fully.
- 59:24I I only wrote. The only other things I had
- 59:27written down were two quotes from this film.
- 59:29Yeah. One was when they found Flash's
- 59:34suit and what's his name? I'm Steve.
- 59:41He says he vaporized. Oh my God, they vaporized him.
- 59:45That was. I was cracking up, OK, And then
- 59:48the other one, which I believe was something I would regularly
- 59:51say in however old I was when I watched this film and was
- 59:56obsessed with this film. Which is you?
- 59:57Were in 7th or 8th grade. Right, you're not supposed to
- 1:00:00let Q Anon know that. You're killing me.
- 1:00:06You're really killing me. I'm so sorry.
- 1:00:08That was the quote. Oh, that was the you didn't
- 1:00:11even. Remember it when Ben, they're
- 1:00:13putting together the the playset outside and he goes, you're
- 1:00:16killing me. You're really killing me.
- 1:00:19Oh, I forgot that. It's so cute to hear a four year
- 1:00:22old say that. I know again when they make 4
- 1:00:24year olds sound like little adults.
- 1:00:25I know, I know, it's so cute and funny.
- 1:00:28But not no. OK, obviously I'm not advocating
- 1:00:31for kids to be treated like adults in the way that the
- 1:00:36headmistress of the Academy was trying to get them to be like
- 1:00:41little adults. Yeah, but it's cute when they do
- 1:00:43stuff like put on their slippers and brush their teeth like
- 1:00:46they're getting ready for a big day at work.
- 1:00:48Of their own accord. But you know it's not cute.
- 1:00:51The reverse. So true.
- 1:00:54Adults being babies. That's so true.
- 1:00:58So if you decide to be a camp counselor again and you feel
- 1:01:00like a kid again, I want you to remember that cancelled.
- 1:01:03You're an adult. Yeah, OK, OK.
- 1:01:06You can feel like a kid, but don't act like one.
- 1:01:09OK, OK, I'll try. Remember that you are grown.
- 1:01:13I am, lady. What else?
- 1:01:15What else? Nothing else.
- 1:01:16I have no. I have no other notes.
- 1:01:18OK, let me let me review my notes just one last time.
- 1:01:21Make sure that we got everything.
- 1:01:25Burp bubbles cheap trick. Oh I love when Steve Zahn said
- 1:01:31this stuff is not for sale. She's having an estate sale
- 1:01:35after, you know, daddy daycare is no longer.
- 1:01:39Should we get the carrot and broccoli costumes?
- 1:01:42Should we do that for Halloween? Oh my God, yes.
- 1:01:44Who would you be? Broccoli.
- 1:01:46I wanted to be broccoli, but I thought that you wanted to be
- 1:01:49carrot because you like orange more.
- 1:01:51I'll be I'll. I'll be either.
- 1:01:52I'm flexible. She's flexible, yeah.
- 1:01:58BROCCOLI. I really don't think it's gonna
- 1:02:04be that hard for us to find those costumes either.
