- 0:01Knowledge in the minds of most people is mental knowledge.
- 0:04We are trained to use our minds to read, to observe, to analyze,
- 0:10to compare, to remember and to correlate.
- 0:13We learn the skills of mental logic and honour those who
- 0:17advanced in mental capabilities. We practice argument and debate
- 0:22and declare winners as those who are able to present the better
- 0:26argument. We know when there is a stream
- 0:30of thought in our minds that tells us what we know.
- 0:34Rene Descartes famously declared I think therefore I am.
- 0:40Man is the mental being, the current peak of the evolution of
- 0:44consciousness, able to use his mind to rearrange the physical
- 0:49world and control the animal world.
- 0:53We are, however, beginning to understand and appreciate that
- 0:57there are other forms and types of knowing that we have
- 1:00suppressed and undervalued. As the mental form of knowing
- 1:04gained its ascendancy and proved its value in the building of our
- 1:09external world and our own success in that world, people
- 1:14are beginning to explore emotional intelligence, vital
- 1:18reactions that occur without mental thought, even physical
- 1:23knowledge based in body consciousness.
- 1:26Each of these forms of knowing are unique and based in the
- 1:30capacities of that level of consciousness.
- 1:34The mind, even while we consider it the peak of our current
- 1:37development, is clearly neither perfect nor is it absolute or
- 1:43precise in its power of knowing. We are beginning to understand
- 1:48and explore other powers that go beyond those of the body, the
- 1:52life force and the mind, powers that originate at levels above
- 1:57the mental level. Intuition, inspiration are
- 2:02forcing us to reconsider the role that the mind has to play
- 2:06in our future development. The psychic, being directly
- 2:12connected to the spirit and the truth of existence, has its own
- 2:16way of knowing what Triorobindo defines as a form of knowledge
- 2:21by identity. In order to comprehend what the
- 2:24soul knows, we also need to adjust our view of knowledge so
- 2:29that we can experience, feel, intuit the truth, not simply be
- 2:35swayed by potentially faulty or incomplete statements of logic
- 2:40or reasoning, the mother observes.
- 2:44Quote communications from the psychic do not come in a mental
- 2:48form. They are not ideas or
- 2:51reasonings. They have their own character,
- 2:54quite distinct from the mind, something like a feeling that
- 2:57comprehends itself and acts by its very nature.
- 3:02The psychic is calm, quiet and luminous, understanding and
- 3:08generous, wide and progressive. Its constant effort is to
- 3:13understand and progress. The mind describes and explains
