- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, this is Tom Kane, the voice of Yoda. And
- 0:12Speaker 1: listening to Movie Meltdown, you are good.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It's showtime.
- 0:24Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:27Speaker 3: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:32Speaker 3: and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out
- 0:37Speaker 3: one million kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome to
- 1:05Speaker 3: Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I'm Jacqueline.
- 1:07Speaker 5: I'm Phillip.
- 1:34Speaker 4: And Happy Life Day. Oh, wait. They totally messed up
- 1:37Speaker 4: our timetable.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Oh, my God. You noticed that, too.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Star Wars is supposed to release at Christmastime, and then
- 1:44Speaker 4: we can have our Life Day holiday special, and we
- 1:47Speaker 4: can talk about the latest Star Wars movie. And look
- 1:49Speaker 4: what they did.
- 1:50Speaker 6: May.
- 1:51Speaker 4: They think it's like the 80s again or something, which
- 1:54Speaker 4: I didn't realize. That's when they used to always release them.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I didn't know that either.
- 1:58Speaker 4: So they're back to the original. I think it fell
- 2:02Speaker 4: on the exact same day as the 77 release or something,
- 2:05Speaker 4: and Jedi was on the same day or something. So yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 4: they're back to old, old school Star Wars release schedule,
- 2:12Speaker 4: which I guess is okay, but it's throwing off our
- 2:16Speaker 4: life day celebration. So now we're just going to have
- 2:19Speaker 4: to make people watch the holiday special in December. Again,
- 2:22Speaker 4: I still hear about that. People still give me grief
- 2:26Speaker 4: for forcing them to watch the entirety.
- 2:29Speaker 2: They should, because I get people all the time who
- 2:31Speaker 2: go through my DVDs. Some people have never even heard
- 2:34Speaker 2: of it. And they want to watch it, and I'm
- 2:37Speaker 2: just like, I don't think you're up for it.
- 2:39Speaker 4: I don't think people were prepared for what was about
- 2:42Speaker 4: to attack them.
- 2:43Speaker 6: I tap out pretty soon into it, too.
- 2:47Speaker 4: It was probably even more overwhelming because I was projecting
- 2:50Speaker 4: it onto a screen.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 2:53Speaker 4: It was a large version of everything.
- 2:56Speaker 6: That wasn't meant to be seen.
- 2:57Speaker 4: No, probably not.
- 2:59Speaker 3: No.
- 3:01Speaker 4: I ruined some holidays.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I feel like that there are segments that are entertaining.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Just the animated Boba Fett pretty much is the only thing.
- 3:12Speaker 2: But I feel like on their own, there's a couple
- 3:14Speaker 2: sections where if you just saw that, you'd be like, oh,
- 3:16Speaker 2: that wasn't great, but okay. But as a whole, oh, man.
- 3:20Speaker 4: It's all pretty rough. Like, even the other, like, the
- 3:22Speaker 4: story-based stuff, there's a lot of Art Carney. There's a
- 3:26Speaker 4: lot of Harvey Korman. And don't get me wrong, in
- 3:29Speaker 4: the right place, both of those guys can be good.
- 3:33Speaker 4: That is not the right place for them. Like, it
- 3:35Speaker 4: is rough, even that stuff. And the musicals, all of
- 3:40Speaker 4: the music performances are a nightmare.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Oh, how can you go so wrong, Jefferson Starship?
- 3:48Speaker 2: And who said it'll be a good idea to have
- 3:50Speaker 2: Carrie Fisher sing?
- 3:52Speaker 4: Carrie Fisher? I can't probably. She was like, look, I
- 3:56Speaker 4: got this. You know how much coke I'm on right now?
- 3:59Speaker 4: I can do anything.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 4: So we don't have any of that to contest with
- 4:05Speaker 4: now because it's sort of summertime. Not really, but it's
- 4:09Speaker 4: like 90 degrees every day, so it feels like it's summertime, so.
- 4:13Speaker 4: All right. Any crazy trailer talk before we get going?
- 4:17Speaker 4: I feel like I at least had some different stuff
- 4:20Speaker 4: this time.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Everything except for one movie, and it's the one I
- 4:24Speaker 2: can't remember, but all the trailers that I saw were
- 4:27Speaker 2: either remakes or sequels, which I know is how the
- 4:30Speaker 2: blockbusters have been going for a while.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Standard, yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But it just reinforced that. As I'm at a prequel
- 4:38Speaker 2: or sequel or spinoff or whatever you.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Want to call it, I don't even remember what mine were.
- 4:44Speaker 4: It was the one that.
- 4:45Speaker 6: Was like the house that has a clock in the
- 4:49Speaker 6: wall or whatever it is.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Webster?
- 4:53Speaker 6: I think it's a Jack Black.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Oh, I didn't get that trailer. I've seen one of these,
- 4:58Speaker 4: but that wasn't this week. I saw a trailer for
- 5:00Speaker 4: the new Robin Hood. I haven't seen that one yet.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I've heard they were making it. For the new.
- 5:08Speaker 2: How many umpteenth live-action Jungle Book movies we need.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I did get that one. Which, actually, I went back
- 5:14Speaker 4: and forth on. Yeah, because didn't he write other stories
- 5:18Speaker 4: with him? There's several Mowgli stories. Yeah, I thought Kipling
- 5:20Speaker 4: did several with Mowgli, so I'm like, at least they're
- 5:24Speaker 4: kind of basing it on the real thing and the
- 5:26Speaker 4: writer and whether or not they do anything.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I thought the CG looked promising.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well, the last one I still haven't watched, but
- 5:33Speaker 4: everything I heard was like, the CG was really good,
- 5:36Speaker 4: the story was actually... pretty close to what it needed
- 5:39Speaker 4: to be. They still somehow shoehorned in songs, but I
- 5:43Speaker 4: don't know.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I don't think there's any songs in this one. If not,
- 5:46Speaker 2: they're going to be really dark.
- 5:47Speaker 4: It does look a little darker. And then like, I
- 5:49Speaker 4: was also like, so is this Favreau? Cause I'm pretty
- 5:52Speaker 4: sure that first one was Jon Favreau. And then I
- 5:54Speaker 4: don't think it is. I guess he handed it up.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Maybe he's still producer, but I think he, someone else
- 5:59Speaker 4: was directing. So that'll be interesting too, that now they
- 6:03Speaker 4: have a whole new director on the helm.
- 6:05Speaker 3: So.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Don't know what to think of that, but the kid
- 6:09Speaker 4: still looks kind of cool.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Well, like I say, I went back and forth parts
- 6:13Speaker 2: of it where I was like, this looks really interesting.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And the other parts I was like, this just looks
- 6:16Speaker 2: kind of flat.
- 6:17Speaker 4: It kind of looked more interesting. Like I was kind
- 6:20Speaker 4: of like meh on that first one. Cause I'm like,
- 6:22Speaker 4: I've seen how many versions of it. You know, I
- 6:24Speaker 4: was like, I kind of know that story pretty well.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Like I just don't feel like rehashing, but like, because
- 6:29Speaker 4: they're doing different stuff and all of the, Characters are
- 6:33Speaker 4: still kind of getting worked in, it seems like, but
- 6:35Speaker 4: they're doing entirely different things. Like, all right, I'm a
- 6:39Speaker 4: little more likely to watch this one than the first one. There,
- 6:43Speaker 4: I guess that's something.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Mission Impossible, whatever it is.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yeah, Mission Impossible. Constantly.
- 6:50Speaker 6: Constantly. Every movie that I've seen in the last six months.
- 6:54Speaker 6: I had that trailer.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And it's been the same one. For me, anyway.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it's always the same one. It may just be.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I at least got a new Jurassic World trailer.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Yeah. Okay, that was on there. It was a different version, slightly.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Oh, I got the one, the Meg, Megalodon.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I got one about the giant shark.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I didn't get a Megalodon trailer.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I got Megalodon. I did not get that one, but
- 7:16Speaker 4: I kind of wish I did.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Which looks like it's going to be like a weird comedy,
- 7:20Speaker 6: but not like a comedy like Sharknado, just like a
- 7:25Speaker 6: It's like, we're, you know, zany, but there's also a
- 7:28Speaker 6: giant shark coming after us.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The poster is like an aerial shot of people swimming
- 7:35Speaker 2: in the ocean over a giant, like, bus-sized shark, but
- 7:39Speaker 2: it looks like a Pixar poster.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Like Finding Dory.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Exactly, yeah. Finding Sharky. Sharky's machine. Wait, no, that's a different... No,
- 7:49Speaker 4: I feel like that's... You may have also just named
- 7:51Speaker 4: the next, like... coming straight to cable like bus size
- 7:55Speaker 4: shark i feel like he's just asking to be on
- 7:58Speaker 4: siffy right now so well i just remembered the one
- 8:02Speaker 4: i got and i'd seen maybe it was just online
- 8:04Speaker 4: i saw a version of it i saw it on
- 8:06Speaker 4: the big screen and i'm just you know once again
- 8:10Speaker 4: i want to fight it i want to be like
- 8:12Speaker 4: you know they don't need to do a kind of
- 8:14Speaker 4: soft remake of die hard and i get back to
- 8:18Speaker 4: the same stumbling block every time i'm like damn it
- 8:22Speaker 4: tween johnson You make me want to watch everything.
- 8:25Speaker 6: You charismatic bastard.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Son of a bitch.
- 8:29Speaker 4: It's like Skyscraper or something. It's like 25% Towering Inferno,
- 8:33Speaker 4: 75% Die Hard. Towering Inferno was what I picked up
- 8:40Speaker 4: off of it, which has been long enough.
- 8:42Speaker 2: We can do another one of those.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I mean, even Die Hard. It's been a long fucking time. It's,
- 8:46Speaker 4: to me, kind of hard to remake or even kind
- 8:49Speaker 4: of half remake. something that like changed its own genre.
- 8:53Speaker 4: But again, if anybody can do it, freaking Dwayne, the rock,
- 8:57Speaker 4: he's going to like, he's so damn likable. Even in
- 9:00Speaker 4: this one, I'm like, I, I will call them out though. Really? Like,
- 9:05Speaker 4: you don't need to show me the entirety of what
- 9:08Speaker 4: happens in the movie. Like by the end, I was like,
- 9:10Speaker 4: I kind of feel like I got it all. Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 4: They really didn't just tease with anything. I'm just like,
- 9:16Speaker 4: so then this, and then that, like it was just
- 9:18Speaker 4: going through the plot more or less. And, A three-minute snippet.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I'm just like, okay, you should really hide a little
- 9:25Speaker 4: of it. If we're going to spend that much money
- 9:27Speaker 4: to go see it, you should not give it all away. Yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 4: that was mine.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think they realize that they put The
- 9:33Speaker 2: Rock in it. People are going.
- 9:35Speaker 4: People are going to go most of the time. Every
- 9:38Speaker 4: once in a while, he's got a weird misfire, but yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 4: you can't fight The Rock. He's just that damn charismatic. So, yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 4: I got that one. Alright, are we ready to roll
- 9:54Speaker 4: into the life day celebration? The half life day celebration.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Halfway to life day.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Get more out of life. Go out to a movie.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Out of town.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Out of town. Out of the night. Out of town.
- 10:25Speaker 4: You're after something.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Is it revenge?
- 10:36Speaker 4: Money? Or is it something else? You look good. A
- 10:45Speaker 4: little rough around the edges, but good.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Heard about a job, big shot gangster, putting together a crew.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I'm a driver and I'm a flyer.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I waited a long time for a shot like this.
- 11:04Speaker 3: What do you think? Well, what do you know? You
- 11:09Speaker 3: got a line on a ship? Yeah, I know a guy.
- 11:12Speaker 3: He's the best smuggler around.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I heard a story about you.
- 11:14Speaker 4: I was wondering if it's true. Everything you've heard about
- 11:17Speaker 4: me is true l3 let's go with a mean man's
- 11:23Speaker 4: face hey with these guns.
- 11:29Speaker 1: If you come with us you're in this life for good.
- 11:32Speaker 3: You might want to buckle up baby.
- 11:39Speaker 8: Here they.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Come let me give you some advice I assume everyone
- 11:46Speaker 2: will betray you and you will never be disappointed.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I got a really good feeling about this.
- 11:52Speaker 3: When do you know how to fly?
- 11:55Speaker 4: 190 years old?
- 11:56Speaker 3: You look great.
- 12:25Speaker 5: So long.
- 12:39Speaker 9: They got a different actor playing solo But everybody watching
- 12:48Speaker 9: just for Lando They wish the whole damn movie was.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Mine Chewie.
- 13:03Speaker 9: That Wookie makes it into every movie. He even gets
- 13:11Speaker 9: to act a.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Scene with Woody. He know damn well that ship is mine.
- 13:24Speaker 9: We didn't want it this day, but we got it.
- 13:36Speaker 4: We have once again gone out on the town, and
- 13:38Speaker 4: this week's out on the town feature is Solo, colon,
- 13:42Speaker 4: A Star Wars Story, which it was pointed out that
- 13:44Speaker 4: that was actually in the title on the screen, which
- 13:48Speaker 4: Rogue One did not have, oddly enough. The year, obviously,
- 13:51Speaker 4: is 2018. The director is Ron Howard, and the plot,
- 13:55Speaker 4: according to IMDb, During an adventure into the criminal underworld,
- 14:00Speaker 4: Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando
- 14:04Speaker 4: Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion. Oddly worded and put
- 14:10Speaker 4: together as usual. And spoiler alert, we're going to ruin this,
- 14:13Speaker 4: I'm sure, so go see it. That's your own fault, whatever. So,
- 14:20Speaker 4: where do we want to begin? I have A couple
- 14:26Speaker 4: of different takes on it.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I have several different takes. First off, I thought it
- 14:30Speaker 2: was a lot of fun. It never took itself seriously
- 14:34Speaker 2: at all.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Months ago when I saw the trailer and I think
- 14:38Speaker 4: I brought it up on one or the other. I
- 14:39Speaker 4: was just like, everybody else was complaining because it's Star
- 14:42Speaker 4: Wars and old people like to complain. This is not
- 14:45Speaker 4: my Star Wars. As I'm watching that, I'm like, yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 4: this looks fun. I sat there the whole time and
- 14:52Speaker 4: I was like, Turns out I was right. It's a
- 14:54Speaker 4: hell of a lot of fun.
- 14:55Speaker 2: There were things that I knew that they were going
- 14:57Speaker 2: to touch on that I was worried about, that they
- 14:59Speaker 2: were going to spend a lot of time on, that
- 15:00Speaker 2: they were just kind of like, eh.
- 15:02Speaker 4: There was a lot of mentions of stuff. Well, yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 2: They didn't hit you over the head with Easter eggs
- 15:07Speaker 2: as much as I thought they would.
- 15:08Speaker 4: There were a lot, though. There were a lot. I
- 15:11Speaker 4: kept thinking about it afterwards. Like, oh, yeah, on that one. Oh, yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 4: on that one. But they were all so quick and subtle, usually.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Or as subtle as Easter eggs get.
- 15:18Speaker 2: They even went outside their own universe because there were
- 15:21Speaker 2: Indiana Jones references.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yep.
- 15:23Speaker 4: And I can't decide.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Which I didn't notice.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I did. And I can't decide if I like subconsciously
- 15:30Speaker 4: saw it and then planted that own thought. Because I'm
- 15:32Speaker 4: sitting there as we're in that room and there's all
- 15:35Speaker 4: that junk behind and I'm like, you know, this is
- 15:37Speaker 4: the kind of dorky place that they would put the
- 15:39Speaker 4: fertility goddess statue. And then I saw it and I
- 15:43Speaker 4: was like, did I actually see it and I told
- 15:45Speaker 4: myself that? Or did I just call it ahead of time?
- 15:49Speaker 4: Because I'm the kind of dork who also has that
- 15:51Speaker 4: fertility goddess. Yes, you do. So, yes. I've seen it.
- 15:54Speaker 4: It's in my home.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You won't let me play with it.
- 15:56Speaker 4: No, no, no. You didn't bring your bag of sand.
- 15:59Speaker 4: If you would bring a bag of sand, I'd at
- 16:01Speaker 4: least let you do the swap out. All right.
- 16:04Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 3: All right.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Anyway, so we slightly jumped ahead there. But, yeah, there's
- 16:11Speaker 4: even that one. I mean, he didn't pick it up
- 16:13Speaker 4: and look at it. Like, you've kind of got to
- 16:14Speaker 4: be paying attention to be like, oh, it's right behind him.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Every time they cut, like, it's hanging out over Woody's head.
- 16:21Speaker 1: So.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I think.
- 16:25Speaker 4: My initial take was this is a lot of fun,
- 16:27Speaker 4: and I enjoyed it pretty much the whole way through.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I had a way more serious version by the end
- 16:35Speaker 4: of it that I don't know if we want to
- 16:37Speaker 4: go into now or later.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Let's hold off on that because I think I know
- 16:40Speaker 2: what you're talking about.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Maybe, yeah. Maybe I was trying to decide if it
- 16:44Speaker 4: was all in my head or if it is in
- 16:47Speaker 4: the text of the movie somehow, so... Yeah, let's come
- 16:51Speaker 4: back to that. So what's some more fun stuff you liked?
- 16:57Speaker 4: Just jump to Donald Glover, for God's sake.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Donald Glover.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Donald Glover. For the love of God. Can you be, again,
- 17:06Speaker 4: kind of rock level of charismatic. He is so damn likable,
- 17:11Speaker 4: it's angering me.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I was worried about the guy playing Han Solo, that
- 17:15Speaker 2: he wasn't going to be enough Han Solo. For what
- 17:18Speaker 2: we're used to seeing. But I think he did a
- 17:20Speaker 2: good job as being a younger version of that character.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I was kind of surprised by how much he sold that.
- 17:28Speaker 4: The attitude was pretty close. You're never going to get exact,
- 17:33Speaker 4: but way more than I expected. I assumed anybody going in.
- 17:37Speaker 4: I'd seen that other weird dude that was posting his
- 17:39Speaker 4: videos online. I've watched that and been like, no, no, no.
- 17:43Speaker 4: So I assumed, I'm like, somebody's just going to be off.
- 17:46Speaker 4: this dude's pretty damn close. Yeah. And just kind of
- 17:49Speaker 4: had a different version of it because it's earlier, but
- 17:52Speaker 4: like the, the freaking cocky swagger is there. And I'm
- 17:56Speaker 4: just like, damn it. Like that's, that's hard to do.
- 17:59Speaker 4: And if I didn't realize, cause I was like, where
- 18:02Speaker 4: the hell did he come from? And then I look
- 18:03Speaker 4: back and I'm like, I have seen a couple of
- 18:05Speaker 4: things with him in it. And I don't remember that.
- 18:07Speaker 4: So it's like, it's not like he's always just doing that.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Like it is specifically for this role that he kind
- 18:13Speaker 4: of dialed that up. So, I was impressed with that too.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Yeah, like I was able to kind of put it
- 18:20Speaker 6: out of my mind that I was originally like, he
- 18:22Speaker 6: doesn't look anything like Han Solo. I'm not going to
- 18:24Speaker 6: think of him as Han Solo. And then like 10
- 18:26Speaker 6: minutes in the middle, I'm like, nope, suspension disbelief gone.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the thing. I walked into the theater thinking, okay,
- 18:32Speaker 2: try to remember that this guy can't be The same guy.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It's going to have to be different. And then 10
- 18:39Speaker 2: minutes in the movie, I was like, I don't need
- 18:40Speaker 2: to worry about this.
- 18:41Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Mine was like, he's not Harrison Ford, but he's kind
- 18:45Speaker 4: of Han Solo.
- 18:46Speaker 10: Like by the end, I was like, he's.
- 18:48Speaker 4: The character and I'm totally buying that. But like, do
- 18:51Speaker 4: I think he looks just like Harrison Ford?
- 18:53Speaker 3: No.
- 18:54Speaker 4: But it's close enough. If you squint, you'll be like, yeah,
- 18:57Speaker 4: he's Han Solo.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But there's enough of that character there that I'm like, okay,
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'm not worried about how much better Harrison Ford would
- 19:04Speaker 2: have done that.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Yeah, which now not. It's not like it's an option.
- 19:08Speaker 4: We've seen old guy Han Solo. We just had that
- 19:10Speaker 4: a few years ago, and he's fine at doing that,
- 19:13Speaker 4: but we're not going to return to that any other way,
- 19:19Speaker 4: barring horrible CG. I'd rather have this.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Right.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Let's go down this road if that's what we need
- 19:25Speaker 4: to do. At least there was some good casting along
- 19:28Speaker 4: the way. Pretty much the whole cast. In fact, this
- 19:32Speaker 4: is what I was going to say. I don't know
- 19:34Speaker 4: if it's full on negative, but it's the same issue
- 19:38Speaker 4: I had with Rogue One is we introduced these side
- 19:41Speaker 4: characters and I kind of want more with them and
- 19:44Speaker 4: then they're gone.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yep.
- 19:46Speaker 4: And this one really early on, like our initial little
- 19:48Speaker 4: team that he gets to working with, they're like.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Well, I feel like Woody Harrelson's character, we finished his story.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Yeah, we got a lot with him. But everyone else
- 19:56Speaker 4: on the team.
- 19:57Speaker 2: His girlfriend, the guy with the multiple arms, I would
- 19:59Speaker 2: love to watch. Both of those. Whole other movies with
- 20:03Speaker 2: them in it. And the new guy playing Chewbacca, by
- 20:05Speaker 2: the way, is amazing.
- 20:08Speaker 4: That's another one. I assumed so much of the structure
- 20:12Speaker 4: of the Chewie face was built around Peter Mayhew that
- 20:15Speaker 4: it was never really going to look right. And I guess,
- 20:18Speaker 4: I don't know if that's just a time thing, like
- 20:20Speaker 4: if they tried to do it in the 70s with
- 20:23Speaker 4: somebody else, if it would have looked all weird, or
- 20:26Speaker 4: if it's just they've gotten really good at redoing that mask.
- 20:30Speaker 4: But yeah, because that guy doesn't look anything like Peter
- 20:33Speaker 4: Mayhew or.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Even what I.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Again, I finally looked at the picture and I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 4: did not expect that at all.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But I would not have... I mean, I stick around
- 20:41Speaker 2: for the credits anyway, but I specifically was waiting to
- 20:45Speaker 2: see who it was because I knew he didn't do
- 20:48Speaker 2: it in Last Jedi.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I think he did.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Did he do it in Last Jedi?
- 20:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he's been there.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Because in Last Jedi they have him listed as Wookiee Consultant.
- 20:58Speaker 4: I thought that was Peter Mayhew in... Well, that's what
- 21:02Speaker 4: I meant.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Peter Mayhew.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Well, I thought Peter Mayhew was in... Force Awakens. Force Awakens, yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Force Awakens, Peter Mayhew was like Wookiee consultant. But even
- 21:10Speaker 4: that guy was like the stand-in that I still... Again,
- 21:13Speaker 4: as much walking around as Chewie does, which Peter Mayhew
- 21:16Speaker 4: can't really do easily anymore. So I'm still guessing a
- 21:19Speaker 4: good amount of screen time is probably that guy, even
- 21:22Speaker 4: in the first one.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Well.
- 21:23Speaker 4: And then in The Last Jedi, he was, I think,
- 21:26Speaker 4: listed as the main Chewie already.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Either way, it was great, and it was fantastic to
- 21:31Speaker 2: see Chewie come. Because I know I talked about this
- 21:34Speaker 2: at the last one, they kind of just made him
- 21:36Speaker 2: a background character, but he's back, and he proves that
- 21:41Speaker 2: when he's working with somebody else, that character's with somebody else,
- 21:44Speaker 2: he's a great supporting character.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Yeah. When you give him something to do, yeah, he
- 21:49Speaker 4: can deliver when... You just have him sitting around a
- 21:52Speaker 4: campfire the whole movie. It's not really his fault.
- 21:55Speaker 6: I'm really glad that they introduced him as like, hey,
- 22:00Speaker 6: Wookiees are scary as fuck.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Oh, he was frightening. Like if I didn't know who Chewbacca,
- 22:06Speaker 2: like he shows up and I'm like excited because I
- 22:08Speaker 2: know it's Chewie.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But if I didn't know who that character was, I'd
- 22:12Speaker 2: have been like, what the hell is going on here?
- 22:13Speaker 6: This is a powerful creature.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 6: Just like the dark and then you just see like
- 22:17Speaker 6: the teeth open up and I was like, ah!
- 22:20Speaker 4: There, that was a moment when I was like, are
- 22:22Speaker 4: they already kind of hitting like, they already. We'll go
- 22:26Speaker 4: back to that in a minute. But there's already like
- 22:28Speaker 4: a few beats of like, all right, this is kind
- 22:29Speaker 4: of like this version of this. And like, so we
- 22:31Speaker 4: get and like throw him in the pit. And I'm like,
- 22:33Speaker 4: so is this just our rancor for this?
- 22:35Speaker 2: That's exactly what I thought.
- 22:36Speaker 4: For a second, it's like the exact same hole in
- 22:38Speaker 4: the ground. They're watching the battle. Like he's chained up.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Like it's all kind of.
- 22:42Speaker 2: When they said feed him to the beast.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Never did my mind go too chewy. For a second.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I was like, oh, there's going to be a rancor
- 22:49Speaker 2: or something.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And then as soon as like something started moving around
- 22:51Speaker 4: in the dark and we couldn't see it, I was like.
- 22:53Speaker 4: wait a minute, this is, I was like, this is
- 22:55Speaker 4: a great time to kind of work Chewie in and
- 22:57Speaker 4: not exactly hit the beat of something. It's kind of
- 23:00Speaker 4: playing with us. Like, again, knowing that we're the fans
- 23:03Speaker 4: that we are, like we're going to know those beats.
- 23:05Speaker 4: So they're kind of using that to their advantage and
- 23:08Speaker 4: be like, we're going to throw this curve ball at
- 23:09Speaker 4: you and it's actually going to be Chewie. Which by
- 23:12Speaker 4: the way, Chewie is a beast if you don't know him.
- 23:14Speaker 2: And they didn't spend too much time on it.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Because you could have stretched that out for 45 minutes.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And still had a decent scene, but they're like, okay,
- 23:21Speaker 2: you know who Chewbacca is, but this is where they
- 23:23Speaker 2: came from. Let's go on to them robbing trains.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Or whatever was going on. But yeah, that was.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Which they both broke the law really quickly once they
- 23:35Speaker 2: got to know each other.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Outlaws and whatnot. But yeah, they did at least with
- 23:42Speaker 4: the Chewie thing, they made him that force to be
- 23:45Speaker 4: reckoned with that we'd always heard about, but like And
- 23:48Speaker 4: even in the old ones, he was such a, like,
- 23:50Speaker 4: cuddly teddy bear kind of a character. But, like, they
- 23:53Speaker 4: always reference the fact that he's going to pull your
- 23:56Speaker 4: arms out of the side.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Well, yeah. Which he does.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Okay, we get that.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:00Speaker 4: And even, like, I do remember the comics, like, they
- 24:03Speaker 4: talk about, like, just how strong Wookiees are. Like, what a,
- 24:06Speaker 4: you know, a force they are if you have to
- 24:09Speaker 4: ever come up against one.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:10Speaker 4: The fact that we really haven't gotten much of that.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Over the years.
- 24:13Speaker 6: And you just don't see it with like a crossbow, right?
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Like you don't get it the same way as if
- 24:17Speaker 6: when he's like picking you up.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Right. So it's, yeah, it is kind of good to
- 24:23Speaker 4: see like some, some sort of like living up to the,
- 24:27Speaker 4: the reputation that the Wookiees have. Like I thought that
- 24:31Speaker 4: was finally kind of making good on this promise we've
- 24:34Speaker 4: had since the seventies. So that was kind of cool. Um, Yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 4: I guess the train robbery. We definitely need to get
- 24:41Speaker 4: to the great train robbery.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Well, before that, I thought it was one of the
- 24:47Speaker 2: funniest moments in the whole movie was the scene with Han.
- 24:51Speaker 2: And Chewie taking a shower together.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I was. Again, I was like, is this where we're going?
- 24:58Speaker 2: Yep, there we are.
- 24:59Speaker 4: And I was like, well, they get real close real fast.
- 25:03Speaker 2: So I guess this is their relationship. Didn't see that coming.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Then all of a sudden you see Wookiee feet next
- 25:08Speaker 2: to Han feet. And it's like, wait a second.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Now, granted, I was like, he is a very muddy Wookiee.
- 25:13Speaker 4: You would not want to stay that way for long.
- 25:15Speaker 4: So somebody hosed that poor guy down and just didn't
- 25:18Speaker 4: know you were going to have to hang out in
- 25:19Speaker 4: the shower with him. wet wookie smell that's that's gotta
- 25:26Speaker 4: be you gotta hope he's like out in open airy
- 25:28Speaker 4: you don't want to be trapped on the ship with
- 25:30Speaker 4: that i mean that's but yeah the that whole little
- 25:35Speaker 4: group is pretty good though like i could almost have
- 25:37Speaker 4: an offshoot movie yeah which now unless we're doing another
- 25:41Speaker 4: weird prequel you know it's like but the The older
- 25:44Speaker 4: Woody character mixed in with I think Val seemed really
- 25:48Speaker 4: cool and we get so little with her.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:50Speaker 4: And then I don't think I realized that that Jon
- 25:53Speaker 4: Favreau is the guy with the forearm.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I didn't either.
- 25:55Speaker 4: I knew the voice. I was like, this does sound familiar.
- 25:58Speaker 4: And then I kind of forgot about it because he
- 25:59Speaker 4: was gone so quickly. And then like at the end,
- 26:02Speaker 4: the credits to go, well, yeah, that's why he sounds
- 26:05Speaker 4: so damn familiar. But yeah, that whole little crew was
- 26:08Speaker 4: kind of fun and seemed like there's sort of potential there.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And then again, it was, rogue one all over it's
- 26:13Speaker 4: like these guys are oh they're dead so like yeah
- 26:17Speaker 4: they keep making cool like not that star wars isn't
- 26:20Speaker 4: kind of rich with characters right but yeah they've come
- 26:24Speaker 4: up with quite a few of these last offshoot movies
- 26:26Speaker 4: and then we don't really spend much time with them or.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Yeah i do think that um this treated the characters
- 26:33Speaker 6: better than rogue one yeah rogue ones like they were
- 26:36Speaker 6: so one dimensional to me and these at least you
- 26:38Speaker 6: get some character development before they die.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Yeah It's, again, it's a short window.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I think Rogue One, you had a lot more characters, too,
- 26:46Speaker 2: that you had to work with.
- 26:48Speaker 4: But even then, like, as we are introduced to him,
- 26:52Speaker 4: I'm like, what is that character? The guy with the
- 26:55Speaker 4: four arms. I'm just like, that poor guy. Because they're
- 26:58Speaker 4: just like, we already got a pilot. And I'm like, oh, well,
- 27:01Speaker 4: you might as well just pulled out the picture of
- 27:02Speaker 4: your girlfriend back home in the war movie. Like, that
- 27:04Speaker 4: guy's going down. We're obviously going to have a reason
- 27:08Speaker 4: for you to get thrown behind the wheel of this ship, so...
- 27:11Speaker 4: I knew he was gone. I was kind of surprised
- 27:12Speaker 4: Val was taken out that quick. I know. She seemed
- 27:14Speaker 4: like she was going to have more to do with
- 27:16Speaker 4: the plot.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I figured we'd get at least to the third act.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I thought she'd at least get midway in before something.
- 27:21Speaker 4: But yeah, that was pretty quick. And again, one of
- 27:27Speaker 4: these scenarios that at the time seems cool and epic
- 27:30Speaker 4: as the marauders show up and this whole big thing
- 27:33Speaker 4: goes wrong. And by the end of the movie, you're like,
- 27:35Speaker 4: you know, you guys, if you just sat down and talked.
- 27:39Speaker 4: All those characters dying, the explosion, all this could have
- 27:43Speaker 4: been handled a little better with some communication. I guess
- 27:46Speaker 4: that's not how things work in the Marauder world. By
- 27:51Speaker 4: the end, I'm like, you know, for not really being
- 27:55Speaker 4: the villains, a lot of stuff went wrong there. That
- 28:00Speaker 4: whole segment was pretty cool as far as action stuff
- 28:04Speaker 4: and Stuff like a throwback, which, again, Star Wars has
- 28:08Speaker 4: kind of always been a throwback to the kind of
- 28:10Speaker 4: things you've seen in other movies, but not in this
- 28:13Speaker 4: weird sci-fi version of it. So we haven't seen a
- 28:16Speaker 4: weird train going around. It's more of a roller coaster,
- 28:21Speaker 4: I guess, than anything. So, yeah, we haven't seen something
- 28:24Speaker 4: like that, and certainly not in action in previous Star Wars, so.
- 28:28Speaker 6: Yeah, the way it tilts when it goes around the mountains,
- 28:31Speaker 6: I'm like, I don't think it needs to do that.
- 28:32Speaker 6: I think that's just to make it a roller coaster.
- 28:35Speaker 4: It just makes it look cool when you're about to
- 28:37Speaker 4: fall off.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:39Speaker 4: It was a little more like Snowpiercer. Yeah, exactly. I
- 28:42Speaker 4: got a lot of that kind of vibe, which, again,
- 28:45Speaker 4: that's its own kind of cool, weird universe. So it's
- 28:49Speaker 4: sort of adding a little of that into this one.
- 28:53Speaker 4: My other sort of echo of previous... before we even
- 28:57Speaker 4: got to that, when Han was getting busted and gets
- 29:01Speaker 4: going back, the Lady Proxima, I'm like, so here's our Jabba?
- 29:06Speaker 4: It's a giant creature that's in charge of everything. And again,
- 29:11Speaker 4: she was a little, which I don't think I realized
- 29:13Speaker 4: was Linda Hunt. Oh, I didn't know that. And as I, yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, yeah, that sounds about right. Now that
- 29:18Speaker 4: I'm thinking about it, that definitely would be fitting of
- 29:21Speaker 4: her voice.
- 29:22Speaker 2: With that, you mentioned Jabba. I was fully expecting the
- 29:25Speaker 2: entire movie That's how it would end with Jabba in
- 29:29Speaker 2: there somewhere. Kind of, but not really. Well, yeah, but
- 29:32Speaker 2: we never directly got Jabba.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Yeah, they threw it out there.
- 29:35Speaker 2: We had somebody else that I wasn't expecting, which I'll
- 29:37Speaker 2: save till we get. Yeah, yeah. Which I was happy
- 29:42Speaker 2: and yet confused to see.
- 29:44Speaker 4: I wasn't, but again, I think it depends on how
- 29:47Speaker 4: steeped you are in the current Star Wars universe. Well,
- 29:52Speaker 4: it's not that.
- 29:54Speaker 2: It's something that messes with me, messed with the timeline
- 29:56Speaker 2: of everything, but. Again, when we get closer to that,
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'll go into more detail.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Okay, we should remember.
- 30:04Speaker 2: To come back to that.
- 30:06Speaker 4: And I do kind of like the whole beginning there
- 30:09Speaker 4: of him... Again, him just racing around the car, I expected,
- 30:12Speaker 4: but when we get to the trying to make it out... Again,
- 30:17Speaker 4: it's almost like trying to get across the border, escape
- 30:19Speaker 4: from Nazis, which, you know, they're space Nazis. So, I mean,
- 30:23Speaker 4: that's sort of a different take on something we've seen.
- 30:25Speaker 4: But then when we get to the him... trying to
- 30:28Speaker 4: like hide from the the imperials more or less and
- 30:32Speaker 4: and then like you see like because we always like
- 30:35Speaker 4: we knew he was an imperial cadet at some point
- 30:38Speaker 4: so now you see it's almost of just like spur
- 30:40Speaker 4: of the moment all right i want to join like
- 30:42Speaker 4: it was just what will get me out of danger
- 30:46Speaker 4: right now okay let's join up i need to be
- 30:48Speaker 4: a pilot anyway like so i do kind of like
- 30:50Speaker 4: that that was.
- 30:51Speaker 2: At first i was like that's a little weird but
- 30:53Speaker 2: then i thought about it i was like no he's
- 30:55Speaker 2: a young guy He's in trouble. He needs to get away.
- 30:57Speaker 2: What better way than to join the army?
- 31:01Speaker 4: Immediately, I want to be a pilot and try to
- 31:04Speaker 4: bypass the ending up in the infantry, which then he
- 31:07Speaker 4: just gets kicked down to anyway. That, I thought, was
- 31:11Speaker 4: kind of cool. In their little recruitment propaganda video, it
- 31:16Speaker 4: was playing the Imperial March. I'm like, that's pretty clever.
- 31:20Speaker 4: I like that. It does answer that question of... Because
- 31:26Speaker 4: it almost was maybe cheesy shorthand of George himself naming
- 31:32Speaker 4: him Han Solo. Where now it's more of like an
- 31:35Speaker 4: Ellis Island thing. It's just like, I don't know. Here's
- 31:37Speaker 4: your name.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Shut up and take it. Go get in line. Like,
- 31:40Speaker 4: it's the same thing that happened to millions of people
- 31:43Speaker 4: coming into the country over the years. That, like, it's
- 31:45Speaker 4: just kind of like, here, you don't have anybody anyway.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I can do whatever I want. I'm an imperial officer.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 4: I kind of, I was like, okay, that kind of
- 31:53Speaker 4: makes sense now with who he is and who he becomes.
- 31:56Speaker 4: And so, yeah, that was, I thought that was kind of, again,
- 31:59Speaker 4: playing into the references almost, but in sort of a
- 32:03Speaker 4: clever way. And then, again, did not expect the battle scene.
- 32:08Speaker 6: Which one?
- 32:09Speaker 2: It was pretty hardcore.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Like, the full on, like, again.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Because it just came from out of nowhere.
- 32:14Speaker 4: This was something that they did pretty well in Rogue One, that, like,
- 32:17Speaker 4: in the in the original trilogy we never got the
- 32:20Speaker 4: feeling of like war like yes it's war is always
- 32:24Speaker 4: listed in the crawl at the beginning but like it's
- 32:27Speaker 4: never even in the prequels like for all the giant
- 32:30Speaker 4: cg battles it never really felt like war the way
- 32:34Speaker 4: that we're used to it where rogue one and this
- 32:36Speaker 4: like all of a sudden you understand oh no this
- 32:39Speaker 4: is really like taking people out in a horrible way
- 32:42Speaker 4: the way that Actual war does, not sci-fi war.
- 32:46Speaker 2: This was like opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Yeah, kind of. It was pretty hard.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Some with lasers, some with pew-pews.
- 32:52Speaker 4: It was kind of, yeah, just enough of that. It
- 32:55Speaker 4: didn't overwhelm you. It was a little less than Rogue One,
- 32:58Speaker 4: but it was just enough to go, oh, yeah, this
- 33:01Speaker 4: is why this character is in the scenario he is
- 33:05Speaker 4: and wants to get out and is willing to, like,
- 33:08Speaker 4: what am I going to turn to crime? Fine with me,
- 33:09Speaker 4: you know, if it gets me out of this. It's
- 33:11Speaker 4: not him being such a bad person as much as
- 33:14Speaker 4: he's in a bad situation. This is the best way out.
- 33:17Speaker 4: It's kind of in my nature. I'm fine with it.
- 33:20Speaker 4: But yeah, it's still like, you do see they're not
- 33:23Speaker 4: left with a lot of good options either. And the
- 33:26Speaker 4: more I was like looking at that, and even like
- 33:28Speaker 4: kind of the stuff at the train station, I'm just like,
- 33:31Speaker 4: it's the thing that I've continually like more and more
- 33:34Speaker 4: fell on board with is like, because again as a
- 33:37Speaker 4: kid you're like the empire they're the bad guys and
- 33:39Speaker 4: i'm just like the more you get knee deep in
- 33:41Speaker 4: this i'm like their politics is such a mess yeah
- 33:44Speaker 4: i'm like yes the grand scheme of it is kind
- 33:47Speaker 4: of bad and the emperor is obviously evil but i'm
- 33:50Speaker 4: like these foot soldiers are just chumps doing their job
- 33:53Speaker 4: like they don't know anything like so you're watching in
- 33:56Speaker 4: the middle of this battle and i'm like this poor
- 33:58Speaker 4: idiot that gets blown up next to him isn't evil
- 34:01Speaker 4: He just, again, ended up in the wrong place and
- 34:03Speaker 4: thought he was doing the right thing and joining the army,
- 34:06Speaker 4: and now he's just dying. So, like, the more you
- 34:09Speaker 4: get into it, I'm like, every dumb stormtrooper that we
- 34:11Speaker 4: watch get taken out, I'm like, they're not evil, really.
- 34:15Speaker 4: They're just some poor sap that thought he was doing
- 34:17Speaker 4: the right thing, thought he was, you know, serving his
- 34:20Speaker 4: empire and, like, doing, I don't know. As time goes on,
- 34:23Speaker 4: and again, the more circular all their ridiculous... politics becomes
- 34:29Speaker 4: and what a mess the jedis are themselves and how
- 34:32Speaker 4: they lead to what becomes the empire anyway i'm just
- 34:35Speaker 4: kind of like i don't know that you hate the
- 34:37Speaker 4: empire you can hate evil acts right i'm like the
- 34:41Speaker 4: empire as a whole is as much of a conglomerated
- 34:44Speaker 4: mess as any political system that comes to power so
- 34:48Speaker 4: yeah and the more i got into that i was
- 34:50Speaker 4: just like yeah i was like i don't know that
- 34:52Speaker 4: any of these guys are you know the bad guys
- 34:55Speaker 4: they're just In the wrong place at the wrong time,
- 34:57Speaker 4: same as Han was. There's no liars in this game,
- 35:00Speaker 4: just players.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Is this seat taken?
- 35:05Speaker 4: Nobody's in the seat, then I ain't taking friends. So
- 35:11Speaker 4: this is, uh, Sabacc?
- 35:13Speaker 2: Sabacc.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Sabacc.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Got it.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You've played before? A couple times, yeah.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Captain Lando Carrizi.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Han Solo. Looks like you're having a good day.
- 35:27Speaker 4: I'm a lucky guy. Can I ask you a question,
- 35:30Speaker 4: Captain Calrissian? Anything, Han. It's Han, but that's okay. I
- 35:37Speaker 4: heard a story about you. I was wondering if it's true.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Everything you've heard about me is true. I figure at
- 35:46Speaker 4: some point we'll have to get, you know, more into
- 35:48Speaker 4: the Lando thing. He's... not just again like to the
- 35:53Speaker 4: performance as a whole is pretty good but we also
- 35:56Speaker 4: get a little more into like i guess the version
- 36:01Speaker 4: of him that that we know later it still seems
- 36:04Speaker 4: pretty true yeah like the way that it's written is
- 36:07Speaker 4: still kind of like yeah he's he's opportunistic at best
- 36:12Speaker 4: at every turn like even he's you know he's still
- 36:15Speaker 4: more or less a decent person but like You see
- 36:19Speaker 4: he's always just kind of like, what's going to serve
- 36:21Speaker 4: me best in this scenario? And he takes that and
- 36:25Speaker 4: follows through with it pretty much to the point that
- 36:29Speaker 4: we meet up with him later.
- 36:30Speaker 6: And he's trying to build a mystique about himself so
- 36:32Speaker 6: that people think that he's a lot more powerful than
- 36:36Speaker 6: he is. He's like, this is where my ship is.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Just break into the shipyard here. I keep it in
- 36:42Speaker 6: storage to keep it safe.
- 36:44Speaker 4: That's a lot of capes. That's a lot of capes.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Almost too many capes.
- 36:51Speaker 4: But then we also, the L3-37, which I, again, knew
- 36:56Speaker 4: a little that was coming into this, but I don't
- 36:58Speaker 4: think I was prepared for the full-on... character that android writes.
- 37:04Speaker 6: So amazing yeah so amazing well and it is it is.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Funny because we do get a lot of i mean
- 37:10Speaker 4: it's they've always sort of touched on that but we've
- 37:12Speaker 4: you know even in the first one there's the we
- 37:14Speaker 4: don't serve your kind here kind of a comment but
- 37:16Speaker 4: i mean now to the point that we get like
- 37:18Speaker 4: you know robots even though they're kind of artificial intelligence
- 37:23Speaker 4: in this universe are treated completely like property, that Wookiees
- 37:27Speaker 4: are thrown into slavery, that, like, we get all these little, like,
- 37:30Speaker 4: social issues and, like, universal justice kind of stuff that, like,
- 37:35Speaker 4: is sort of being addressed now that was just, and
- 37:38Speaker 4: maybe that's jumping to the future when everything's kind of
- 37:40Speaker 4: falling apart by the time we catch up to it
- 37:42Speaker 4: in 4 through 6. It's like everything's in a worse
- 37:46Speaker 4: state than it is in the prequels and now, so
- 37:48Speaker 4: maybe everything's just to the point of acknowledging, like, yeah, whatever,
- 37:52Speaker 4: this is the messed up world we live in where
- 37:55Speaker 4: now i guess there's still a sort of at least
- 37:58Speaker 4: an acknowledgement of these things are wrong and we're trying
- 38:01Speaker 4: to write what we can along the way that yeah
- 38:05Speaker 4: so it's probably also just our angle as society now
- 38:09Speaker 4: versus then but yeah it's very it's very in your
- 38:12Speaker 4: face in this.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Movie yeah Yeah, it's in your face, but it's not preachy.
- 38:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't hit you over the head.
- 38:18Speaker 6: It's just a matter of fact.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Yeah. It's very obvious that's the point they're trying to make.
- 38:24Speaker 4: It's not hiding it, but it's also kind of over
- 38:28Speaker 4: in the middle.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Again, we've thrown out the spoilers, so that's one of
- 38:33Speaker 4: our characters we lose.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Yeah, which I was not prepared for.
- 38:36Speaker 6: Me neither.
- 38:38Speaker 4: But they... get to a point, and this is something
- 38:41Speaker 4: I'll try to remember to touch back on later, they're
- 38:44Speaker 4: putting all the pieces into play, like, they're just putting
- 38:47Speaker 4: this puzzle together so well, so much so that once
- 38:51Speaker 4: she's gone, more or less, in the physical version, but
- 38:54Speaker 4: even then, as, like, Lando's scooping her up, I was like, well,
- 38:58Speaker 4: can't you still, like, does she have a hard drive? Like,
- 39:00Speaker 4: can't you, like, reload her into a new body? They've
- 39:02Speaker 4: done that with R2 how many times now, and 3PO' s
- 39:05Speaker 4: been rebuilt a bajillion times, so I'm like, can't you
- 39:08Speaker 4: kind of save her? So they end up They do that,
- 39:11Speaker 4: but it's also as you go on in the Star
- 39:14Speaker 4: Wars lore, and even so much so in Empire, he's
- 39:17Speaker 4: acknowledging the attitude that the Falcon has. And then I've
- 39:22Speaker 4: heard that listed, I think, especially in expanded universe stuff,
- 39:26Speaker 4: that the Falcon is almost its own entity. Like the
- 39:29Speaker 4: computer itself does sort of have artificial intelligence. It has
- 39:34Speaker 4: a personality that like we don't really get normally, but like,
- 39:38Speaker 4: you know, we, the three PO lines about the most
- 39:40Speaker 4: we get of having a weird dialect and having an
- 39:43Speaker 4: attitude and like, so yeah, it's, it's, It then explains
- 39:47Speaker 4: why the Falcon is kind of the way that it
- 39:49Speaker 4: is because it actually has.
- 39:50Speaker 2: This character embedded into it. Well, and it was one
- 39:52Speaker 2: of those nods that didn't really hit you over the
- 39:54Speaker 2: head either.
- 39:55Speaker 4: It's a geek nod.
- 39:56Speaker 11: It's a real hardcore geek nod.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you're just like, okay. Now, again, if you want
- 40:03Speaker 4: that explanation, it's there. If not, you're just like, oh, okay.
- 40:06Speaker 4: So she kind of didn't die.
- 40:07Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 40:08Speaker 4: It lessens it a little bit. She's still there. She's
- 40:11Speaker 4: just in the ship now. So that's, again, it's also
- 40:14Speaker 4: creating that lore of the Falcon that every, I mean,
- 40:18Speaker 4: we're so like every movie kind of comes back to
- 40:21Speaker 4: it now.
- 40:21Speaker 2: And speaking of that character, I could be wrong about this,
- 40:26Speaker 2: but I honestly don't remember. I think this is the
- 40:28Speaker 2: first like sustained conversation we've had between two basically female
- 40:34Speaker 2: characters in a Star Wars movie. Because that conversation that
- 40:40Speaker 2: they had about how Lando was in love with, you know,
- 40:42Speaker 2: the droid.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Which was funny. And that went on for a few minutes,
- 40:49Speaker 2: you know, in a good way. But I don't think
- 40:50Speaker 2: we've seen that before.
- 40:52Speaker 4: I kind of think. I mean, the old, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 4: fourth or sixth, there's just not a whole lot of
- 40:58Speaker 4: female characters, period. So they always kind of fail the
- 41:01Speaker 4: Bechdel test.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I'm trying to think, even prequels.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Oh, they definitely failed in that. Yeah, because they're talking
- 41:07Speaker 2: about love.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Well, yeah, but I mean, the fact that there are
- 41:09Speaker 4: even female characters talking to one another is a step
- 41:12Speaker 4: forward in the Star Wars universe. I feel like in
- 41:17Speaker 4: the prequels, because they start having political leaders that are female,
- 41:22Speaker 4: so I do think there's maybe the second one when
- 41:25Speaker 4: Amidala moves on to the Senate, and then the Queen
- 41:28Speaker 4: is the new... the new queen so i think there's
- 41:31Speaker 4: a moment there where they're just talking about politics there's
- 41:33Speaker 4: not even like guys involved in the dumb conversation but i.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Don't think it was as sustained as a conversation no
- 41:39Speaker 2: i don't think it was just a oh we're just
- 41:41Speaker 2: letting our hair down and talking about.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Whatever the hell yeah you know again we it's good
- 41:46Speaker 4: that we're heading down that road anyway but i was
- 41:48Speaker 4: thinking yeah even as big a part as ray is
- 41:50Speaker 4: she's usually surrounded by a bunch of dudes so yeah
- 41:53Speaker 4: there's probably not a whole lot of that up until.
- 41:55Speaker 2: This point so And again, of course, one of the
- 41:58Speaker 2: women was artificial.
- 42:01Speaker 6: I really liked that last line. She was like, well,
- 42:05Speaker 6: how did that work?
- 42:05Speaker 4: And then, it works.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:07Speaker 4: You're like, what? If what I'm seeing on the internet
- 42:13Speaker 4: from Japan is true, then yes, it will eventually happen anyway.
- 42:16Speaker 4: So we're heading down there. I'm saving up is what
- 42:19Speaker 4: I'm saying. But that's also not a new thing, and
- 42:23Speaker 4: I don't think I'd paid that much attention, but they'd
- 42:26Speaker 4: even going back to the original when they, the fact
- 42:29Speaker 4: that droids have gender is sort of strange, but like
- 42:33Speaker 4: it has always been there. Like the, the droid that
- 42:39Speaker 4: Ben has in the prequels, like R4, I think. Yeah.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Is a female and was like part of the ship.
- 42:46Speaker 4: It had a weird backstory, but like, and then I
- 42:48Speaker 4: was thinking, actually, if you go back even into the
- 42:51Speaker 4: first one, there's like the, the, the droid that's like Taurus,
- 42:56Speaker 4: that's torturing other droids is a female droid and i'm
- 43:00Speaker 4: thinking there's another one too in the original trilogy so
- 43:02Speaker 4: like it's the fact that that's there we're getting a
- 43:05Speaker 4: sort of semi-main character now that is like noticeably one
- 43:09Speaker 4: way or the other but like that's always kind of
- 43:11Speaker 4: been there in the star wars universe that is very
- 43:14Speaker 4: strange actually.
- 43:16Speaker 6: And this one is like could is like attracted to
- 43:20Speaker 6: to humans and is like just not Lando but just
- 43:24Speaker 6: not Lando yeah.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Just not the smoothest motherfucker in the galaxy.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Yeah and that's like all normal but um oh what
- 43:29Speaker 6: was I gonna say oh but like she has like
- 43:33Speaker 6: it seems like she has a little bit of beef
- 43:35Speaker 6: with some dudes like the way she says like uh
- 43:38Speaker 6: this guy was talking about like switching her off she's
- 43:40Speaker 6: like if you could find it like it's like a
- 43:42Speaker 6: classic nice.
- 43:44Speaker 4: You know.
- 43:46Speaker 6: Just kind of like seems like really.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Over it with people Which I guess you would be.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Once again, being almost not even almost. Essentially you are
- 43:56Speaker 4: a piece of property to someone else. You'd be pretty
- 43:58Speaker 4: tired of their attitude. Especially if you were kind of aware.
- 44:02Speaker 4: If you had some sort of artificial intelligence. I think
- 44:06Speaker 4: it would get old real quick. So yeah, we get
- 44:09Speaker 4: that weird middle part there where she's got her riot
- 44:13Speaker 4: going on. We've got Wookiees saving Wookiees. So there's a
- 44:17Speaker 4: whole Other thing going on, but it's really kind of
- 44:20Speaker 4: covered just to steal more stuff. So it's, yeah, it's
- 44:24Speaker 4: all of our weird issues kind of get wrapped up
- 44:27Speaker 4: in that little middle section. And then we kind of
- 44:29Speaker 4: move on with the heisting. One of those, those Wookiees looked... Bigfoot?
- 44:34Speaker 2: Well, yeah, they all look like Bigfoot. But there was
- 44:37Speaker 2: one in particular that I was like, I know I
- 44:39Speaker 2: have seen that somewhere. And then for some reason... My
- 44:44Speaker 2: wife and I were talking about Willow today, and I
- 44:48Speaker 2: looked up the trailer on YouTube, and sure enough, one
- 44:50Speaker 2: of the Wookiees does come from Willow. It's the exact
- 44:54Speaker 2: same design.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I remember now. It's been so long since I've seen Willow. Well,
- 44:58Speaker 4: same here. It's been more than 20 years. But I
- 45:00Speaker 4: think they made those weird little metal-based figures of all
- 45:04Speaker 4: kinds of creatures that barely factor into Willow. And now
- 45:07Speaker 4: that I'm thinking about it, I think there is one
- 45:08Speaker 4: for that. So, yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Which, on that topic, too, Willow himself was also in
- 45:12Speaker 2: the movie.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Working with Ron Howard, again.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Who I was like, oh, yeah, he did direct Willow.
- 45:16Speaker 2: And I'm pretty sure Clint Howard was in.
- 45:18Speaker 6: There, too.
- 45:19Speaker 4: He made his usual, I'm Ron's brother.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Which is funny, because I had, well, this tells you
- 45:24Speaker 2: how good the movie was. I didn't, or how much
- 45:27Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. I never thought, oh, yeah, that's typical
- 45:29Speaker 2: Ron Howard. It was more like, why is Clint Howard
- 45:32Speaker 2: in this?
- 45:32Speaker 4: After the fact, I was like... Because, yeah, I kind
- 45:34Speaker 4: of got midway in and I hadn't thought about it. But, yeah,
- 45:38Speaker 4: I was just like, oh, yeah, that's... Because it is funny, like,
- 45:41Speaker 4: if you go back and look, he really does kind
- 45:43Speaker 4: of always make an appearance.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 4: It's usually just a minor role of like, ah, that's
- 45:48Speaker 4: my brother. But, yeah, so it wasn't surprising there. But
- 45:52Speaker 4: then it was one of those looking at it after
- 45:54Speaker 4: the fact, it was also... I think that's sort of
- 45:58Speaker 4: what helps this movie so much is Ron is a
- 46:01Speaker 4: really solid director.
- 46:03Speaker 2: He's a solid director. There's never been a question about that.
- 46:05Speaker 4: He's never been super showy. He's not really like an auteur.
- 46:10Speaker 4: He doesn't try to make everything visually the same and all.
- 46:14Speaker 4: He's not super stylistic in his stuff. He's more journeyman
- 46:17Speaker 4: in the fact that he'll take on totally different projects.
- 46:20Speaker 4: He'll go whatever gets thrown at him. Like this literally
- 46:24Speaker 4: got thrown at him. but he's always solid. He really
- 46:28Speaker 4: kind of knows how to come in and just put
- 46:31Speaker 4: together a good movie. I think what I do kind
- 46:35Speaker 4: of wonder if the Lego guys got a hold of it,
- 46:38Speaker 4: I'm like, what would have happened to it? Because they're
- 46:41Speaker 4: good filmmakers, but on film, the only thing they've done
- 46:45Speaker 4: is full-on comedy. So I'm like, again, there's a place
- 46:51Speaker 4: for comedic Star Wars. I mean, Look at Robot Chicken. Like,
- 46:54Speaker 4: they do genius stuff. So, like, it's asking for good comedy,
- 46:58Speaker 4: but I don't know. Like, I don't think it would
- 47:00Speaker 4: have been right for Han Solo. It would have been, like,
- 47:03Speaker 4: for Ragnarok.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Like, just, like, too much of it.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Which that found a good balance, but I feel like
- 47:09Speaker 4: if that's all you've done is, like, if you're approaching
- 47:11Speaker 4: it almost from, like, a comedic standpoint, I'm like, how
- 47:15Speaker 4: does it not overpower, like, the, you know, the decent
- 47:18Speaker 4: action movie that we need Han Solo's.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Backstory to be, you know? So I think we may
- 47:24Speaker 4: be lucked out. I don't know. As much as I
- 47:26Speaker 4: like those guys.
- 47:27Speaker 6: I think the balance was really good. It was like
- 47:30Speaker 6: the story was still more important than the gags. I mean,
- 47:35Speaker 6: we had like funny characters doing funny things, but it
- 47:39Speaker 6: never distracted from the plot or the characters themselves.
- 47:43Speaker 4: It kind of seemed naturalistic.
- 47:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Which I just, yesterday I was talking to someone who,
- 47:48Speaker 4: you know, is a Star Wars fan. I won't go
- 47:50Speaker 4: into there. But yeah, I was like, we ended up
- 47:54Speaker 4: talking about Last Jedi. I know it's a big surprise
- 47:56Speaker 4: me talking about Star Wars. But like for a long time,
- 47:59Speaker 4: and he just like listed off all the stuff in
- 48:02Speaker 4: Last Jedi that was kind of rubbing him wrong. And
- 48:05Speaker 4: so much of it was the comedy stuff. And I'm like, yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 4: almost all of the comedy, even comedic relief kind of
- 48:13Speaker 4: stuff was so wrong. Just was not suited to the
- 48:17Speaker 4: Star Wars universe or seemed really forced into that scene
- 48:21Speaker 4: where I like I never got that with most of
- 48:24Speaker 4: this it seemed like it was just those were the
- 48:27Speaker 4: characters and it seemed true to their nature for even
- 48:29Speaker 4: you know what little time we spent with them like
- 48:32Speaker 4: if it was one of those early characters like it
- 48:34Speaker 4: just seemed natural to them and not really like over
- 48:38Speaker 4: the top like comedic for the sake of haha kids
- 48:41Speaker 4: look funny comedy like which it felt like that I
- 48:44Speaker 4: don't know that last outing seemed like really even more
- 48:47Speaker 4: than most Star Wars.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Well, and that's what I said at the time, too.
- 48:51Speaker 2: I have no problem with comedy being in Star Wars.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Because you do run through the whole range of emotions.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Yeah, there's always some.
- 49:01Speaker 2: But yeah, I think they did find the balance in
- 49:03Speaker 2: this one. Because Han has his moments where he's always
- 49:06Speaker 2: been funny. He's always been a smartass.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Again, that is his character.
- 49:11Speaker 2: He's always had his serious moments, too.
- 49:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 49:15Speaker 5: I'm off to my side, see Cookie by my side.
- 49:20Speaker 5: Han Solo.
- 49:21Speaker 4: I'm Han Solo.
- 49:37Speaker 6: I'm a boy, no more kitchen rescue mission where we
- 49:40Speaker 6: bought a child to fight. There's no trouble cause we're
- 49:41Speaker 6: smuggled if we find the price is right.
- 49:43Speaker 4: And on this particular night, me and my hookies playing hooky.
- 49:46Speaker 6: Wanna see the moto?
- 49:47Speaker 4: No, maybe it's good to Nika Noki.
- 49:49Speaker 6: See, I'm seeking out a sweetheart on the run.
- 49:51Speaker 3: I'm a last one, talking matrimony.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Me and my homie put a fast one.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I'd rather chill with Swillacoy the blonde with the crimp.
- 49:57Speaker 10: Let me pimp for a mint for a cat.
- 49:59Speaker 6: I'm solo, I'm solo, I'm on solo, I'm on solo.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Uh, yes, sir. May I help you? Oh, I'd like
- 50:26Speaker 3: two of those, please. Hot dogs?
- 50:28Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 50:29Speaker 3: And three of those.
- 50:31Speaker 4: And one of those.
- 50:33Speaker 3: And five bars of these.
- 50:35Speaker 4: And a cup of a nice hot liquid. Coffee.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Coming right up.
- 50:40Speaker 9: Oh, and two bags of those peculiar white coffee material.
- 50:43Speaker 3: You mean our crunchy popcorn. Shall I wrap that for you, sir?
- 50:49Speaker 4: Oh, that's all right. My saucer's just outside.
- 50:53Speaker 1: They come from miles to enjoy our intermission.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Hey, Sterling.
- 51:03Speaker 12: What's up?
- 51:10Speaker 4: You like coffee. I do like coffee. In fact, we're
- 51:12Speaker 4: drinking coffee right now.
- 51:13Speaker 12: Funny enough, we are.
- 51:14Speaker 4: You know where you should get your coffee?
- 51:16Speaker 12: Where should I get my coffee?
- 51:18Speaker 4: I think you should go to Heine Brothers and get
- 51:20Speaker 4: your coffee.
- 51:21Speaker 12: Heine Brothers? I think I used to work there.
- 51:22Speaker 4: You probably did. A lot of people in this town.
- 51:24Speaker 2: Well, that's what Louisville is.
- 51:26Speaker 4: They're kind of like taking over. Actually, driving this past week,
- 51:30Speaker 4: there was a place that used to be. I won't
- 51:33Speaker 4: even out them as the failed massive franchise that they are.
- 51:36Speaker 4: But they had this place, and it was sitting next
- 51:39Speaker 4: to the road, and they sold coffee, and now.
- 51:41Speaker 12: Suddenly they're gone. Actually, I think I know exactly what
- 51:44Speaker 12: you're talking about.
- 51:45Speaker 4: I just noticed it this week, and now they're gone.
- 51:47Speaker 4: It's empty, but it's already painted up with the Heine
- 51:50Speaker 4: Brothers sign. Coming soon, another. Heine Brothers location.
- 51:54Speaker 12: You know, you say they're taking over. I say they're
- 51:56Speaker 12: our number one community coffee.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Just saying. And I mean that literally. Yeah, I mean,
- 52:02Speaker 4: that is kind of why I'm like, you know, it
- 52:04Speaker 4: is interesting how much they've continued to spread and become
- 52:09Speaker 4: super successful, but yet they're completely independent. They were started...
- 52:15Speaker 4: out of this town by a couple of guys and
- 52:18Speaker 4: they came up with this process and this general idea
- 52:21Speaker 4: of what they wanted to create.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:22Speaker 4: And it's kind of cool that it's been accepted by
- 52:25Speaker 4: people and like people signed on and like, not only
- 52:27Speaker 4: do we like your coffee, but we like the idea
- 52:30Speaker 4: of this little community that you've created around this coffee
- 52:34Speaker 4: shop and this series of now many coffee shops.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Sure.
- 52:37Speaker 12: And moreover, Mike Mays, you know, one of our prominent
- 52:40Speaker 12: leading businessmen in the, in the community. And I, one
- 52:42Speaker 12: thing I can definitely say is that, you know, Heine
- 52:44Speaker 12: Brothers has, like many local businesses, been deeply involved in
- 52:48Speaker 12: charity work and stuff around town, and that's great. But
- 52:51Speaker 12: the thing I like most about buying Heine Brothers coffee,
- 52:54Speaker 12: if you don't mind me saying, is the fact that
- 52:57Speaker 12: I know that the person behind the counter that's getting
- 52:59Speaker 12: paid with the wage from this, like my first job
- 53:02Speaker 12: when I got to Louisville was working at Heine Brothers.
- 53:05Speaker 12: their first job out of college or in college or
- 53:08Speaker 12: whatever is working at Honey Brothers.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Creating Honey Brothers. Yeah, exactly.
- 53:11Speaker 12: So to my mind, the nice thing is just you
- 53:14Speaker 12: knowing that you're talking to people who are going through
- 53:16Speaker 12: a cycle that I think is actually part of the
- 53:19Speaker 12: common life that we.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Have here in town. And I was talking with a
- 53:23Speaker 4: couple of recent guests. I mentioned that's one of the
- 53:27Speaker 4: cool things that's happened this past year or so is
- 53:30Speaker 4: that they came on board and they were like, even
- 53:33Speaker 4: people outside of our town were just like, wow, that's
- 53:36Speaker 4: really cool. And that's one of the things I think
- 53:38Speaker 4: is really impressive is that they've gotten to this point.
- 53:41Speaker 4: They're a successful local business. They've branched out and done
- 53:45Speaker 4: more and more and have helped not just charities, but
- 53:48Speaker 4: you see them giving back to other people, like other
- 53:52Speaker 4: independent operations. Like, I don't know, movie meltdown. They like
- 53:56Speaker 4: couldn't exit. Well, that's the thing. There's so many people
- 53:59Speaker 4: I've gone to over the years trying to keep this
- 54:01Speaker 4: show running and Great job, by the way. Well, I
- 54:04Speaker 4: just won't hear back from, or people have come on,
- 54:08Speaker 4: gotten involved, and then disappeared really quickly. And the fact
- 54:11Speaker 4: that they came on board and have continued to support
- 54:15Speaker 4: us is a really big thing. And I've even started
- 54:18Speaker 4: to see them doing it with other shows. And I'm like,
- 54:21Speaker 4: I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm like, cool.
- 54:24Speaker 4: Seek out these new different places to not just advertise yourself,
- 54:29Speaker 4: but to also end doing that you're supporting these independent
- 54:33Speaker 4: artists and operations that are trying to do something outside
- 54:36Speaker 4: of the norm and normally bigger businesses won't have anything
- 54:40Speaker 4: to do with that unless it's cut and dried the
- 54:42Speaker 4: generic way that we've always done advertising or however we
- 54:46Speaker 4: spread the word about our business you know we only
- 54:48Speaker 4: go through newspaper ads because you know that's what the
- 54:50Speaker 4: kids read today well and that's and that's actually incredibly
- 54:53Speaker 4: vital especially for those of us like yourself and myself
- 54:57Speaker 4: who are part of the independent arts community and I'd
- 54:59Speaker 4: like to think that.
- 55:00Speaker 12: Would you mind if I stuck in a promo myself?
- 55:03Speaker 2: Feel free.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Excellent.
- 55:05Speaker 12: Well, speaking as a member of the independent arts community,
- 55:08Speaker 12: the theater community to be specific, which also thrives on
- 55:11Speaker 12: non-traditional businesses, giving us their okay to slap a logo
- 55:15Speaker 12: on a program for a show that you've never heard of.
- 55:21Speaker 12: I'll be working with the Alley Theater once again, bringing
- 55:24Speaker 12: back our Star Trek boldly going way too far.
- 55:27Speaker 4: Way too far.
- 55:28Speaker 3: Again.
- 55:29Speaker 12: Uh, this will be the third mounting of the show
- 55:32Speaker 12: that we, uh, premiered and originated, uh, uh, about four
- 55:36Speaker 12: years ago, I think at this point, uh, which is
- 55:39Speaker 12: kind of amazing because it was a freewheeling, exciting thing.
- 55:42Speaker 12: We first threw it together in like a couple of
- 55:44Speaker 12: months to, to put it on, to put it on,
- 55:46Speaker 12: but it'll be coming back this July, uh, the 12th
- 55:49Speaker 12: through the 28th, I believe. Uh, so mark your calendars. Uh,
- 55:52Speaker 12: it is an exciting show where we take an adventure
- 55:55Speaker 12: through all the different series and of the franchise and,
- 55:58Speaker 12: throw in some references and some jokes about other franchises
- 56:01Speaker 12: as well. And it's really not only a celebration of
- 56:04Speaker 12: Star Trek and all things Star Trek, but also of
- 56:07Speaker 12: the weirdness and goofiness that's fundamental, in my opinion, to
- 56:10Speaker 12: the show. And not only is that the case, but also,
- 56:13Speaker 12: if you arrive and if you are selected to be
- 56:16Speaker 12: one of the unlucky few, you too can come up
- 56:19Speaker 12: on stage and be a red shirt. You will be
- 56:21Speaker 12: given a red shirt and the job of dying to
- 56:24Speaker 12: defend one of the more important cast members... before the
- 56:27Speaker 12: scene is done.
- 56:29Speaker 4: It's not going to end well when you put on
- 56:30Speaker 4: the red shirt.
- 56:31Speaker 3: No, it won't.
- 56:32Speaker 12: But, you know, as a friend of mine once said,
- 56:34Speaker 12: hypothetical scenario, space is being traversed by the human race,
- 56:39Speaker 12: and we're traveling to new planets every day, and they
- 56:42Speaker 12: say to you, you too can join Starfleet, and they offer.
- 56:46Speaker 4: You a red shirt.
- 56:47Speaker 3: Would you say yes?
- 56:49Speaker 12: The truth is, I think most of us, dear listener,
- 56:52Speaker 12: would indeed say yes, if it meant that we got
- 56:54Speaker 12: to be on the bridge of the Enterprise.
- 56:57Speaker 4: Or it'd be like, I'd have to get up and
- 57:02Speaker 4: leave the house. I'm connected on the internet to everything
- 57:06Speaker 4: I need.
- 57:06Speaker 12: The 23rd century is no place for slackers.
- 57:09Speaker 4: I don't want to have to go out on adventures.
- 57:12Speaker 4: That seems like a lot of work.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Adventures are.
- 57:15Speaker 12: Now you're talking like a 21st century geek.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. That's what I keep seeing our society do.
- 57:22Speaker 4: It's just like, eh, I don't want to leave the house.
- 57:24Speaker 12: Eventually, yeah, eventually that's going to be all of our
- 57:25Speaker 12: pop culture heroes. They're not going to be the people
- 57:27Speaker 12: who are like, oh, heck yeah, I want to go
- 57:29Speaker 12: on an adventure. They're going to be like the people
- 57:31Speaker 12: who are like, oh man, do I have to defeat
- 57:32Speaker 12: the Dark Lord?
- 57:33Speaker 4: I think it'll be more like, I'm going to put
- 57:34Speaker 4: this headset on and like, go and digitally take.
- 57:38Speaker 12: On the universe from right here on my sofa. Dude,
- 57:40Speaker 12: I think we've given Ready Player One way too much
- 57:42Speaker 12: of our time, okay?
- 57:45Speaker 4: So all that having been said, I think you should
- 57:49Speaker 4: go to hineybrothers.com slash subscription and sign up for the
- 57:53Speaker 4: coffee subscription. And that way you don't even have to
- 57:55Speaker 4: live down the street from that new one that they're building.
- 57:58Speaker 4: You actually can live wherever you want across the country.
- 58:01Speaker 4: Maybe even other countries. You should check the website. But yeah,
- 58:05Speaker 4: that way you can have coffee delivered to your door
- 58:07Speaker 4: and you don't have to do anything.
- 58:09Speaker 1: Fabulous.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Like everybody in this society seems to want to do.
- 58:12Speaker 4: Just kind of hang out at their house.
- 58:13Speaker 12: That's certainly the image we're painting of it right now.
- 58:15Speaker 4: You can just hang out.
- 58:16Speaker 12: As we sit on my couch.
- 58:16Speaker 4: Watch cool videos on your YouTube and drink your coffee
- 58:19Speaker 4: that's delivered right to your porch. What else do you want?
- 58:23Speaker 4: So yeah, just if you can't spell Heine. Again, maybe
- 58:25Speaker 4: you're not from this town. You don't know how they
- 58:27Speaker 4: spell Heine Brothers.
- 58:28Speaker 12: Just ask a local.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Just go to moviemeltdown.com. Right there on the right hand
- 58:32Speaker 4: side of the page. Yeah, that's true.
- 58:34Speaker 9: Button.
- 58:34Speaker 4: There's a little logo that says Heine Brothers Coffee. You
- 58:37Speaker 4: click on that, it'll take you right to the website.
- 58:39Speaker 4: And then, when you're there, more importantly, you use the
- 58:42Speaker 4: code MELTDOWN, and you get $ 5 off your order, and
- 58:45Speaker 4: that's what we're doing for you. Again, we're trying to
- 58:47Speaker 4: give back to you.
- 58:48Speaker 12: I'd buy that for a dollar.
- 58:50Speaker 4: Five of them. You'll have five extra ones once you
- 58:53Speaker 4: use this code. Meltdown. And from there, you can sit
- 58:58Speaker 4: and have extra money to invest in your online internet obsession.
- 59:03Speaker 12: So, for instance, if you happen to stumble onto a
- 59:06Speaker 12: Patreon page for a particular podcast.
- 59:08Speaker 4: You know, I'm not going to say. Movie Meltdown slash Patreon.
- 59:12Speaker 12: But it's a circular business model, and it would really
- 59:14Speaker 12: be great if the money that you save thanks to
- 59:17Speaker 12: this podcast also goes into this podcast. Sorry, that's not.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Mr.
- 59:22Speaker 12: Meltdown over here proclaiming this. I'm just a random guy.
- 59:25Speaker 4: I'm not going to say patreon.com slash movie meltdown, but
- 59:28Speaker 4: you know, if you accidentally went there or the link
- 59:30Speaker 4: to that, that's on that same right hand side, I'm
- 59:32Speaker 4: not going to tell you not to give money to
- 59:35Speaker 4: a certain movie on Patreon page. That's, you know, surviving
- 59:39Speaker 4: only by you guys and the wonderful people at Heidi Brothers.
- 59:42Speaker 4: So this is the only way we survive is help
- 59:45Speaker 4: from other people. And that's how you build an awesome
- 59:48Speaker 4: artistic community of people using the funds that are created
- 59:54Speaker 4: through whatever you do and then giving it back to
- 59:56Speaker 4: other people to do other cool, interesting things. And then
- 59:59Speaker 4: it becomes a circle and we all, we support those
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: businesses that support the independent, cool stuff.
- 1:00:04Speaker 12: Like tiny brothers.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: So it all, it all comes full circle. So I'm
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: just saying, go do all of that.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: That was a great promo. Go there right now. I'm
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: going to drink some more coffee.
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: There's my coffee mug right.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: There.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: All his life, he only cared about one thing, himself.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: But now, the best hotshot pilot in the galaxy was
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: playing babysitter to an old man, a green kid, two robots,
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: and a princess. Han Solo really had his hands full.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Han Solo is back.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Star Wars is back. Star Wars. Rated PG. Parental Guidance Academy.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: answered in the movies. And now, on with the show.
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: Han Solo.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Han Solo.
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: You are greatest hero Han Solo You are my favorite
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: hero Han Solo I can't believe you're dead Han Solo
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: Please come back Han Solo I love you. And Soto.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: And Soto.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: I love you. Most of mine start jumping ahead into
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: the meat of the plot now. And the unlimited number
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: of double-crosses.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Like, by the end, I'm like, this is, like, film
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: noir level of backstabbery. And almost in that true nature of, like,
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: by the end, it almost doesn't matter what the scam
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: is anymore. It's, like, it's crossed over so many times.
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: You're just like, I don't know, I like that guy.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: I'm just going with that guy. I hope this ends
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: up good. I like that guy. So, like, it crosses
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: over so many that by the end, I'm like, wait, okay,
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: what was the real through line all the way through
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: this scam? Like... who got the last sting on who
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: in the middle of planning this out three steps ahead
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: of the other guy. By the end, I was like,
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: I don't care. I like Han. Let's just go with him.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: Let's see how this turns out.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: It's Han's movie, so I'm okay with sticking with him.
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: I just quit worrying about it.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I like Woody Harrelson.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: By the end, I was just like, whatever. Let's just
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: ride this out. I'm not even going to overthink it anymore.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: All of that stuff kind of worked itself out for me,
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: but we also get to Again, almost.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: We talked about this recently on the episode. Because we're
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: almost so self-aware that you have people that have grown
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: up on Star Wars and almost writing it with the
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: audience in mind. So when we get to the end
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: with Woody Harrelson, Han very blatantly shoots first. There's no questioning.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: So it's almost like, yeah, no, this is what you
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: guys want. We're almost making up for the nonsense that
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: we did way back here in this universe by... Let's
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: just out and out. Dude didn't even touch his gun.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: There's no questioning. So we're again getting to... We're using
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: almost the real world version of it to get to
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: who the character of Han always is. And we kind
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: of always knew he was. Which is kind of the
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: same thing as Lando. I think in the end he's
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: a good guy. In this movie maybe more than ever.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: He is through and through kind of a good guy.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: But is not.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: perfect and is not gonna worry about a lot of
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: yeah he's not gonna worry about the rules of anything
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: he's just like I'm still gonna take care of myself
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: I'm still gonna take care of the people I care
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: about like whatever I need to do to take care
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: of them it's like let's just yeah like let's let's
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: be realistic here like I'm still a kid who grew
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: up on the streets and I'm gonna take care of
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: myself like so I think he still has that edge
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: to him that he's gonna do whatever he needs to
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: do but we do get a ton of like his
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: character is, is also, he's always kind of come back
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: around to kind of doing the right thing. And as
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: it goes on creating the rebellion, essentially, I don't know.
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: Can you justify just bouncing with him a millennium Falcon though? Like,
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: cause he's just, there's no coming back around there. He
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: just like sees Han walk. It's like, Oh yeah, that
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: thing that's.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: Uh, yeah, I had to go. Well, that was, yeah,
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: back to Lando. But again, to me, that's kind of
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: his nature. Like, it's all the way by the end
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: of Jedi before we're kind of like, all right, he's
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: on our side. He's good. But I mean, he kind of,
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: I mean, it's the classic turn in the middle of
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: Empire that like, he just out and out sells his
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: friend down the river. Like, he's just like, well, this
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: was a better deal for me and I did what
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: I had to do. So yeah, you see that with
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: Lando in this too, that In the end, he wants
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: to be a good guy, but the protecting himself kind
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: of wins out with Lando.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: And that's just so much more realistic. Anybody else catch
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: the line about how mining colonies are the worst from Lando?
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Again, there's a lot of dorky little references in this.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: So many.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I was impressed not just with the performance of Donald Glover,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: who was great in it, but the depth, which I
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: did not think we were going to get that much
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: depth from Lando at all.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: And and a good amount of screen time like i
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: thought it might have been way further in i guess
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: we need the ship pretty early and he.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Came in at the right time too because yeah when
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the movie started i was like all right when are
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: we gonna get to lando but then by the time
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: you get there it's like oh yeah oh yeah yeah
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: lando's in this too.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: And they kind of because we again it's the whole
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: weird star wars lore it's like we know the game
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: where he wins it but they almost play that of
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: like So you're assuming he's going to win the ship
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: from him in the beginning and you're like, oh, no,
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: because he's cheating. Once again, it's kind of his nature.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Which was a great touch, you know.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: But yeah, so it's like eventually we're like, and this
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: is something I want to ask that I eventually wanted
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: to get to is like, they're very definitely, and I
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: don't know if this is to its disadvantage, but when
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: you get into something that's this prequel, sort of prequel,
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: side prequel, whatever it is, It so has to thread
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: these specific areas and then pull it all tighter by
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: the end. That it's like, okay, well, we know he
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: gets the Millennium Falcon. Like, we know. Like, there's some, like,
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: little left turns you can do along the way. But
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: by the end, we know we've got to set up.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: And then he gets the Falcon. And then, like, well,
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: we know we're going to lose that escape pod.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: And then we lose... So, it's like they almost have
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: so much... They have to check so many boxes by
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: the end of the movie that I'm like, is it...
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: is it almost taking away from it because we can't
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: go into it like any normal movie that we don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: know anything about. Like you can't be like, Oh cool.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: I wonder what's gonna happen next. There's always something in
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: the back of your mind, assuming you've seen the rest
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: of the universe that you're just like, okay, well this
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: has to happen. This has to happen. He has to
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: win the Falcon. He has to like, you know, everything
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: is leading so specifically to where we know he ends
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: up that does it take away from trying to tell
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: a somewhat original story? I don't know what, What is
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: your take on it?
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: I think that the movies like that could allow for
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: ending before he gets the Falcon or before. I don't
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: think that it's an obligation of the movie because they
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: can always just say that happens after this little story.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Well, I get the feeling we're getting two more of
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: these anyway.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: That's kind of where I landed.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Which is fine.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: I was like, I feel like it's pulling those strings
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: really hard in this one, but we've almost kind of
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: nailed down.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: A lot of the stuff already. Well, that's the thing.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I mentioned like with With the escape pod and you
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: finally seeing the mandibles. They just really kind of skimmed
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: the surface on that like they did with Mean Chewy
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: and the Kessel Run. I audibly groaned the first time
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: they mentioned Kessel.
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: I was like, oh, of course. Here we go.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: But it wasn't that bad. They could have spent, like
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: I said, the entire movie on just those topics.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Individually. And it was still kind of like A weird thing. Like, again,
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: I was expecting it to become more of like the
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: freaking pod races.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: Where it was like a very official oh you gotta
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: like it's NASCAR gotta make the Kessel Run in.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Less than 20 I was thinking of like a cannonball
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: run sort of thing yeah I was like I was
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: afraid it was gonna be a big huge part of
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: this plot like months ago when they said that was
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: coming into play I was just I really was expecting
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: which again there's a perfect example of The pod.
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: Race is like 25 minutes. It just goes on, or
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: it certainly feels like at least 25 minutes. It goes
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: on for such a huge section of that movie. There's
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: elements of it I like, but it just brings it
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: to a grinding halt. I'm just like, this is already
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: kind of a slow movie, and you guys found a
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: new level.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: I remember when that came out, I was so excited. Oh,
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: a new Star Wars. And then halfway through, I was like, man,
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: I don't want to be upset at a new Star
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Wars movie, but when is this gonna move on?
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong, Sebulba's pretty badass. Like, that's the only, like,
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: there's some fun characters along the way, I think he's cool, but, like,
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: it really is just three times longer than it needs
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: And the idea of the pod race, okay, I'm on
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: board with that, but cut it down.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: Yeah, again, it is building his character, it's how he
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: learns to pilot anything and then move on to ships
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: and whatever, so, like, it fits, but it's, like, yeah,
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: that's one where they, like, went and then it was
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: George's fault, so He took it way too far down
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: that rabbit hole. So this, I think they just touch
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: on it, and they get in what they need to do,
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: and we're moving on with the plot.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: So this is a fair balance. I mean, the idea
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: of that maelstrom or whatever that they were flying through,
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: that was pretty intriguing.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: That was pretty cool.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: You don't know what's going on, because they mention that,
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: and then they come back to it later. So you're like, oh,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I guess the castle run, they have to fly through this. Okay,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: now I'm a little intrigued.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it changed what I think maybe everybody was kind
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: of expecting it to be. And then, but yeah, it's like,
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: like I was saying with, it's like, okay, we already
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: see he gets the blaster that we know. Like, again,
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: it's the geeks are just like, oh, there it is. Like,
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: it's like, he's already got the blaster. He's got the ship.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: He's got the ship looking like it normally does. Like,
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: there's all these things that already kind of fell into play,
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: but we've got a few like open ends still hanging
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: out there that I'm like, okay, so I'm assuming we're
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: coming back to this specific storyline. And again, trilogies as
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: they're known for, I'm not going to be shocked if
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: they do two more in this little timeline before we
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: get to episode four timeline. So it's like, I'd be
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: okay with that actually.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: Especially now that we've sort of got all that out
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: of the way, like it kind of frees you up
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: that like, Because that was sort of the thing with, like,
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: episode three. Like, by the end, like, that last half
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: of the movie, I'm like, well, we know where we
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: have to go. Like, everything by the end of this
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: movie almost has to end up exactly where we know
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: it's going to be 20 years down the line. So, like,
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: it felt like you couldn't do anything else with the
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: end of that saga. Where now that we've gotten all
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: the Han... like gimmicks out of the way it's like
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: it kind of frees them up that like all he
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: has to be is on Tatooine in a decade you
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: know and like still hanging out with Chewie like we're
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: pretty sure Chewie's not gonna get killed other than that
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: like everything else is pretty open now yeah.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: This movie left questions but the good sort of questions
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: like okay so how does he get involved with Jabba um.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: Or just characters. Like now we, and if we want
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: to go ahead and jump to, but I mean, even like,
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: like as much time as we spend with Kira, like
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: she's really kind of a cool character and you do
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: get to this, like this terrible little backstory that we
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: never really get. And we're don't want to, because it's
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: all of just like, yeah, you made it out and
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: you went to war and things suck for you. But
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: I don't think you realize how bad things suck for me.
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: I was trapped there, and I was still kind of
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: a prisoner. And by the way, I'm a girl, and
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: things are going to be 9,000 times worse stuck in
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: any situation like that. So it's like we never really
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: get to the point of the horrible life that she's
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: had in this three-year span. It's like it's been just
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: a little bit of time, but I feel like the
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: life that she had to lead is probably... Again, we
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: just touch on it, but every time she's just like.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Even Woody Harrelson's character was like, don't go looking into it.
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: But even with her, she's just like, yeah, I'm not
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: really the girl you knew. I've lived a lot of
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: horrible shit in three years, and this is who I
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: am now.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Then we see what she does at the end of
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: the movie. It's like, God only knows what she's been through.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: And where it's taken her. It is the last of
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: the double crosses, I guess, because then it's like, Well, now,
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: even if she didn't want to, this is the life
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: she's leading. And, again, it's survival. Like, she, from that
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: point on, has just been trying to survive. So, it's
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: what all of them are kind of doing. It's definitely
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: what Lando is doing. It's kind of what Han was
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: doing the whole way. So, we see her of, like,
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: this is my best move. Like, I don't like it.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: I don't like who I'm aligned with now. But now,
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: I just got bumped up the ladder. And this is
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: my best move at this point.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: So.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: So I'm assuming, especially because she's also a pretty recognizable name,
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: that they're going to want to bring her character back in,
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: which I'm fine with. Because I think we've just sort
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: of touched on who she is, and there's definitely a
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: lot more room to kind of write her into a bigger,
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: more fleshed out character.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I think she could be a... I'm hesitant to say
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: she could carry her own movie, but I think she
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: could be a bigger supporting character in a non-Han Solo movie.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. Again, now that we're getting all these timelines
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: crossing over, that's potentially where we could go. And then
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: who her boss is, do you want to go ahead
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: and jump to that?
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, we can go ahead and start talking about that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: I feel like that's, again, surprisingly, I had not heard
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: it leaked out even as early as I saw it.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: I'm surprised I hadn't, but I hadn't been paying attention
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: to the Twitter feeds or whatever.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: Before we get into it too deep, when she's talking
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: to him, And we're going to find out who Drayden's
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: boss was. I fully expected it.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: To be the Emperor. Even as it showed the cloak,
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: I was like, all right, well, here comes our normal.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: I was like, that doesn't sound like the Emperor, but.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: I mean, we got the Emperor-hooded CG, like, little hologram
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: version in one, two, three, four, five movies before this,
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: at least. Did they work him in Rogue One? I
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: can't remember. But, like, all of the other ones almost...
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: we get a version of that that pops up. So like,
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: I must say, all right, here's our usual. So once again,
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: they're kind of knowing the geek knows this hand. So
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: we're going to throw an extra wild card in here.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: I almost thought it'd be Snoke for a second.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: Again, because it could, they're almost playing with like everything
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: that we know.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: This is almost way harder than like when George had
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: to do it because he didn't have all these weird
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: expectations and fan theories. He just wrote whatever weird stuff
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: he wanted. But now that we've gotten to this point, like,
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: They almost have to play two steps ahead or put
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: down a wild card that you didn't see coming just
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: to mess with you. Like, it is almost like they're
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: working against the audience now because everybody knows everything so
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: quickly and everybody has their own theories and is angry
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: if their theory doesn't match up with your theory.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Even though they were angry about the theory they came
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: up with the first time.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: And then when it turns out to be something different,
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: they're upset.
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: Fans are ridiculous.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: But no, when it.
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: And I know I'm one of them, but.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: You know, right there, Darth Maul.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: But then I was like, all right, this makes sense
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: because in everything outside of the cinematic universe, he's had
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: a whole nother run and he's had a huge other
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: life that took place after he goes down the chute
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: in Phantom Menace.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: But is this before he goes down the chute or after?
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Because if it's before, and this is what I was
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: talking about with the timeline, if this is before, this
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: makes Han so much older than Anakin.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: This is, this is, because this is 10 years, it's
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: kind of right in the middle. It's 10 years before
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: episode four takes place.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: So it's after Anakin's already turned. It's after, so, I mean,
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: Darth Vader's already out there. Luke, I guess at this
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: point is like a little kid. He's probably like nine
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: or 10 sitting on Tatooine. So this is the in
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: between point, but it's also past the point of Clone Wars,
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: I think, because Darth Maul and the animated stuff has
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: come up in, which I think both of those are
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: still considered canon now. It's one of the few things
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: they kept with the Disney takeover was the animated, the
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: second animated Clone Wars, and then the Rebels is definitely
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: written by their same group of people, more or less.
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: So he's popped up in Clone Wars and had robotic
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: spider legs.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew that.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But then when he came back in Rebels, which I
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: think takes place after this, he just has regular mechanical...
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: It's almost more of like a... I don't know. It's
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: just like a weird mechanical humanoid.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Well, we've learned there's no body part they can't replace.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: Yeah, basically. And even then, when he gets cut in half,
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: even in Phantom Menace, when later those theories were, once again,
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: I swear, I think it just came from fan theories eventually,
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: and they went, that's not a bad idea, and they
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: just kind of ran with it. But, I mean, even then,
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: I'm like, well, we know nothing about his weird race,
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: and we don't know.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: What, I mean.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: It could definitely be pretty easy for some, you know,
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: certain animals in our world can, like, lose half of
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: their body and still, like, you know, regrow a tail
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: and come back. And so I'm like, it's not that
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: far-fetched that, you know, this weird race we know nothing
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: about could survive that. But also because I feel like it's,
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: once again, them, it's sort of the Han shot first.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: It's them making good. It's like, yeah, this character was
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: really cool, and we did absolutely, like, we shafted him
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: literally and figuratively. We gave him nothing to do in
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: that movie except be a badass, which he was, but, like,
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: he had no character development, no lines. and, like, there's
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: so much more we could have done with him, so
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: I think they realized that mistake, and were like, okay,
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: how do we fix this, and, like, in the animated stuff,
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: they started going, okay, how about we bring him back,
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: and we make him, like, once again, he kind of
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: crosses that line in the middle there of, like, not
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: even being a bad guy, like, he's sort of the
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: middleman of, like, helping the Jedi, but he still kind
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: of ends up, like, turning, so, like, you never really know, like,
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: he hates the Empire at some point, because, again, he's
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: kind of, get boys used by them and left for dead.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: So like, you see, like, I kind of liked that
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: turn when he's in the middle and he's like, he's
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: helping them fight against the empire, mostly because he got
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: screwed over by him. So again, that was knowing like
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: how much other outside of the film version of his
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: life he's had. I'm like, okay, obviously it's a good
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: place to work him in, especially cause we're in this
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: mid point of the timeline. So I, that's another one
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: of those, like if we're doing two more movies, uh,
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: Now they've set it up. I'm assuming he's coming back
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: as a bad guy.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: I have no problem with the Han and Darth Maul showdown.
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: I can definitely watch that. And, yeah, he's already recrafted
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: another version of his, which I think they said is, like,
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: an Inquisitor lightsaber.
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: That would be a really cool, like, solo, like a,
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: not Han solo movie, but a solo movie for Darth Maul.
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:27Speaker 6: Because you were saying that, like, Kira wouldn't necessarily make
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: the best, like, you know, her own movie.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: I think she's great as a supporting character, and I
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: would like to see her in a larger role.
- 1:20:38Speaker 6: A supporting character in Darth Maul's movie.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: In the Darth Maul movie.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: Yes!
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: I'd love to see that.
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: When they keep going down that road of, like, wanting
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: to give villains their own movie, I mean, we're gonna
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: watch the Venom movie in months or so, like, it
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: seems like a move that's not that far off now,
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: especially somebody who has that, like, they're not a full-on
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: villain at this point in their timeline, so, like, You've
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: definitely got a lot of interesting angles you can play
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: with there.
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: And we need a solid movie for a bad guy
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: at some point. Or someone on the wrong side, at least.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: Yeah, because we had three with Anakin, and they're just weird.
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: I don't hate most of it. Again, I've come to
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: appreciate the good stuff along the way, but it's still
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: just such a weird and almost sad story. I mean,
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: not even sad in the way they meant it to
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: be like, lame by the end I'm like the badass
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: that Darth Vader becomes or at least again in the
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: lore is like when you look back I'm like Anakin's
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: such a chump and like again I'm not even like
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: throwing Christensen down the well I don't think he does
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: that bad of a job as much as everybody else
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: hates him I just feel like the character yeah again
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: George is not helping anybody the screenplay itself is a
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: little off so like it wasn't his fault But even
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: on top of that, just the character of Anakin, like
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: it's just getting duped every step of the way. And
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: like where you see like in the next series, Luke
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: is just sort of strong and like fights back. Anakin
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: easily caves and turns to the dark side. So like
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: the more we delve into the Anakin story, the more
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: sad it is. So it would be kind of cool
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: to see a dark. side character doing something actually cool
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: and great yeah that is kind of and again has
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: like a weird gray area there where we're at this
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: point in the timeline darth maul would have where he
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: could kind of be playing both sides of of i
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: don't like the empire anymore but i'm also not really
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: a good character so again maybe a couple of steps
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: up on the on the han solo version but yeah
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: i don't know i think there's definitely potential and and
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: them knowing their what side they're uh Fred is buttered on.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: I think they're going to want to come back just
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: because people like the character of Darth Maul. So I
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: think he's going to come back or they wouldn't have
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: bothered to throw.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: It in there.
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: There's definitely a pop in the theater.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: Oh, I was excited.
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: And my wife, who has not seen episodes one, two,
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: and three, wanted to know why I was squeezing her
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: hand so hard when he popped up on screen.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: Who's that weird dude? Which, again, it is interesting, like,
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: And now I think I found out why after the fact,
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: but I was like, no, that's Ray Park. Like they
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: really got him to come back. And I was like,
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: it does look like an older Ray Park, which he
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: really is now, obviously. But then I think why? Because
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: the original one was pretty much all makeup, like physically.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: Where this one, I think they just took Ray Park
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: now and like did the whole CG version of it.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: So I think that's why he looks so much more
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: like Ray Park. Maybe than he did with the makeup on.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: It actually is just using his face now. So I'm like,
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: that's kind of cool to see an older, different version
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: of Darth Maul now. So that's, again, I think the
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: Darth Maul's got a lot of potential. Oh, yeah. Know
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: what they do with it? Who knows? But they could
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: just snope him next time and sell him down the
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: river once again.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: It's just, it's nice to see them redeeming that character
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: after 20 years.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: You know? Yeah, it's taken a long time.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: And I know that with Clone Wars and Rebels that
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: he was in there and he was supposed to be awesome.
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: With all the buildup that they gave us of that
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: guy and then just to see him get six minutes
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: of screen time and get cut in half.
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: Again, he's the Boba Fett of that series.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: He got built up to be a badass. He kind
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: of is for the little amount of time we have
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: with him, but then he gets taken out like a chump. So, yeah,
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: but he didn't even get the running. At least Boba
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: Fett got two, I'm going to say two of those movies. Granted,
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: they crammed him into one after the fact. But, yeah,
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: mostly he's in two of those movies, or as much
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: as you get before you get eaten. So, like, yeah,
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: it would be kind of cool to see them, like,
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: totally make good on sort of the mistake that George
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: made a long time ago.
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: But that makes me more comfortable to know that all
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: of this is post him getting chopped in half yeah
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: yeah because the thought of having a han solo that
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: is 10 15 years older than his best friend's dad
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: and you know what would really the the original trilogy
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: that would really just make me uncomfortable.
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: Yeah this i mean that and i was watching like
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: you can see there like you can see sort of
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: the outline of the weird shape of what looked like
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: kind of similar legs to what he had in Rebels.
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: So it is him sitting there with weird robot legs.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: Which may be why it didn't just do a floating head.
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: I think they specifically did it.
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: They can go ahead now.
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: We've got the goal. But this is one that, like,
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: and maybe this ties back to that other thing I said,
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: because it got a pretty decent response from people as
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: far as, like, reviews and even like fans what I've
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: heard again I haven't been paying too much attention because
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: I try not to before we discuss it but it's
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: been pretty decent you know overall murmur from fan base
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: but the one thing that I bothered to read before
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: I got here was it was like yeah it was
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: fun and it's a decent you know version of Han
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Solo more or less but it doesn't add anything to
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: the Star Wars universe does that seem true again to
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: me it's like maybe because.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: It doesn't add it doesn't add so much that you're
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: like Well, okay, this happened, but that contradicts everything that
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: happened in 4, 5, and 6.
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: That's what I said. I think because it's threading all
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: those things so specifically, it can't add too much.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: Like, I guess it can give a little depth to him,
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: but it can't go anywhere else plot-wise that we don't
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: already kind of know is coming. So I think that's
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: their own... By doing a prequel, your hands are tied
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: somewhere down the line. You've got some freedom, but not
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: all of it.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: It's like in episode four when Luke is first at
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Ben's little hut or whatever. And Ben is like, this
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: is who I am. This is who your dad was.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: After you see the prequels, you're like, no. All that's wrong.
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: Obi-Wan is the worst liar ever. So maybe that's also what, again,
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: the people running it now, Disney and Lucasfilm and all
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: of it, are maybe super self-aware now. Because you see George,
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: and as much as he pretends like he had a plan,
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: you see him constantly, even in those first three, start
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: to contradict himself. Or be like something he sort of
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: had a half an idea of in this movie. And
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: even by the next movie, he's like, no, no, no,
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: never mind, scrap that. We're going to do this. So
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: you can see him already making those adjustments.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: No, I swear to God, they were brother and sister
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: the whole time.
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: That kind of stuff. You can see him just midway
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: in going, okay, so his father didn't die. How about
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: he was just saying... So he's already coming up with
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: cover stories in his first trilogy. By the time he
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: had the prequels in, he's backpedaling so hard that I
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: feel like in these, Rogue One and this movie, and
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: even what little they're doing going forward with 7 and 8,
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: they know they have to have these so airtight. Because
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: I really don't remember a lot of weird issues with
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: the timeline in Rogue One. And then even in this one,
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: it's like, no, everything comes together exactly like it needs to.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: But it does raise new questions about the fact that
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: with Rogue One, the fact that somebody designed it that
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: way on purpose.
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: And then all these thousands of people were murdered for
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: no real reason trying to get the plans.
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: But I feel like it doesn't leave those weird loopholes.
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: No, it doesn't.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: It opens up new cans of worms.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: It opens ethical questions.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: But it doesn't really like, again, it's not like the
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: George version of like, Oops, probably shouldn't have said that.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: oh well let's just pretend like.
- 1:28:42Speaker 11: That is what it is let's just pretend like it
- 1:28:44Speaker 11: never happens sometimes so i feel like now they're so
- 1:28:49Speaker 11: super aware of that they're just like no no no
- 1:28:51Speaker 11: we got to make sure like whatever you guys are
- 1:28:53Speaker 11: planning let's go ahead and figure out what we're doing
- 1:28:55Speaker 11: or at least enough that the backtracking doesn't create weird
- 1:28:59Speaker 11: holes that we know can't come true later.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: So I feel like that's why you're not going to
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: get a prequel or anything like shoehorned in the timeline
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: that can do too much. Like it can just be
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: kind of a fun, entertaining, which I guess both of
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: these have been that like they've been really entertaining and
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: like kind of fun in a way that escapes the,
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: the normal Skywalker storyline. Um, But I feel like there's
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: only so much they can do within the context of
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: the universe because they have to end up where they
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: have to end up. So, I don't know. That was
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: like the more after I read that, I was like,
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: I think it's not really their fault. That's what you
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: get yourself into when you're making something in this scenario.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: It's got to be tough, especially with someone with this
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: big of a fan base.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: And is the point... I'm just kind of thinking, is
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: the point of the movie to add anything to the universe...
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: Or is it just to give visualization? Yeah.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: Well, if we're going to go down that route, the
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: point was to put asses in seats.
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: The point was to put asses in seats and to
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: just give people a show of what they already know.
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: I feel like they should add something to it. Yeah,
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: I agree. I feel like they should add character and depth.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: Because I feel like you can almost take that the
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: bad way, which is kind of what I feel like
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: happened in the prequels. Like, I feel like he's like
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: backtracking then going, okay, this is what I'd said over
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: the years. Now got to find a way to fill
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: in all that time. So like you get a lot
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: of like middle nonsense, which is most of what's going
- 1:30:36Speaker 4: on in Phantom Menace, a lot of attack of the clone.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: So it's not till you get to that last movie
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: that you're like, okay, yeah, now we have to, but
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: he was just kind of making up shit in the
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: beginning because he'd already like, he felt like he had
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: to make up a backstory to, fill in the details
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: where I'm like I'd rather just have somebody write good
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: stuff that kind of like enriches what we already know
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: exactly and not.
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: Just fills it out flushes it out not.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: Like make up stuff to have a bigger universe like
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: we don't need to add too much to it that's
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: uncalled for that's just unnecessary bullshit like we don't need
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: that we just need it to give a little more
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: depth to what we know yeah.
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: Yeah and I guess they did add a little bit
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: to this because at the end you find out Who
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: the other gang is, and that that potentially, possibly leads
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: to the birth of the Rebellion.
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean... So I guess... I.
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: Didn't think about that until just now, but I guess, yeah,
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: that does kind of add... Because I know nothing about
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: the beginning of the Rebellions. I know it's been covered
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: in the Expanded Universe, but.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: Which, yeah, I mean, we... It is such a specific timeline,
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: and we've now seen what leads to the Empire, but yeah,
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: it's like, we know... By the time we get to
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: episode four, how, like, overwhelming and how powerful they are.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: So you do, like, how did this get to that
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: point where there was already... Because the rebels, being the
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: ragtag they are, like, they're still organized by that point.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: They've got a whole fleet of ships. Not a huge
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: fleet of ships, but a fleet of ships.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: But those things cost money.
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: And you're going to have to pay your soldiers.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: So this is like.
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Regardless of how good your intentions are. So where did
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: all that money come from? And now that I know
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: that they're stealing or selling stolen fuel.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. To pay for it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: That makes a little more sense.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: And it gives you a timeline there of like, okay,
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: so this is a decade of that stuff building up
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: to when we get to meeting up with Leia running
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: everything by that time. So, yeah, it is kind of
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: like a good starting point that, again, if they go
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: two more on this, I'm assuming we'll get a little
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: more detail on that somewhere along the way.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: And I was glad to see they didn't, much like in.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: Oh, Force Awakens. They didn't make us wait three movies
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: to see who the person behind the mask was.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: Or make it sort of ridiculous like it is in
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: Phantom Menace.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Because then they never really out and out. There's no
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: Phantom of the Opera reveal of, oh my gosh, it
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: was the Emperor. They never say it. It's just so
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: like if you're watching those chronological, by the time you
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: get to three, you're like, Who's this little guy in
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: the closet? It doesn't even make sense. It only works
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: in reverse for fandom purposes of like, oh, this is
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: how he gets to be the emperor and the old
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: weird looking dude. So if you're watching it in number order,
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: it's just like this really drug out story of this
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: senator and emperor of the whole universe, more or less.
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: But it's still just political nonsense for so long. And
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: if you don't know what's coming, you're like, why are
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: we spending so much time with this old bastard? So
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: it is weird how much they drug that out and
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: never really had a reveal.
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: Ever.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: Even by the end of 3, we get the reveal
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: of Darth Vader, but we don't ever get the... I mean,
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: he just looks like that. He's still just president of
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: the universe, and he now is a weird disfigured old
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: dude in a robe.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: I guess it's like you said that people... I guess
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: George Lucas felt like, oh, the fans will know who
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: this is.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: They'll get it. They'll know.
- 1:34:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: It's obvious, but I'm like, well, but you're the one
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: numbering them, so if you're making little kids growing up
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: watch them in order, this is horribly laid out.
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: It's obvious to us because so many times we've seen
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: those movies.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: Again, it's just, I think it is them sort of
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: learning from all these, like, it's all these decades of
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: mistakes now that, like, I do feel like at least
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: there's such a huge team running this now that they're
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: just like, alright, we gotta get our ducks lined up here, like,
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: we gotta figure stuff out, we're gonna We're going to
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: do this in a succinct manner, but we're going to
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: keep it interesting and fun. And so I do feel
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: like they're trying to cover all their bases and so
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: far they're kind of doing a good job.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: I think there've been a couple of missteps here and there, but.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: A lot of them in last Jedi, like, yeah, I
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: don't want to jump on that bandwagon, but it was,
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: as I was discussing it with him yesterday, I was
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: just like, yeah, there's a lot of problems I have
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: more than like the, just the more time goes on,
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: the more I think about it. I'm like, Yeah, that
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: doesn't really sit right.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: This goes back to my argument, though, that I've been
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: making for the past two or three years that they're
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: cranking these things out way too fast.
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: That is something I was going to ask, but that's
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: the only other thing I saw other than that one
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: comment about the adding something was also how not so
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: impressive it did at the box office this weekend.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: We talked about that when we talked about it being
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: pushed back because... They didn't want to come out the
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: same weekend as the Avengers.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it was going to be like one week apart then. Clearly,
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: that was a smart move. It would have been annihilated
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: by them if it was that close to the Avengers,
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: because the Avengers stayed on top for weeks.
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: Because if I'd had a choice between going to see...
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Because I was not... Up until about two or three
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: weeks ago, I was not excited about the Han Solo movie.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: At all.
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: When did Ron Howard take over as director?
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: It was a while ago. It was last summer, I think.
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: It was a while ago, and.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: But that's another thing though. Last summer we were talking
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: about how this is going to be made. Now it's
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: already out and it's hard to make quality in that
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: short of time.
- 1:36:08Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: But it was quick turnaround in general. I think just
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: shooting itself was like, like principal photography was like February
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: of 2017. Yeah. That's for something with this much huge budget,
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: this kind of cast, that many special effects to be
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: taken care of after the fact. Like, That's a really
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: quick turnaround. Especially to move the data.
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: I guess it was kind of a limited cast. It
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: wasn't like a huge cast. So I guess they could
- 1:36:35Speaker 6: work with that.
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: It's still one of the. They said it was one
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: of the. Again the bar keeps getting raised. But one
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: of the most expensive movies ever. Because it's Star Wars.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: Because they brought in all these names. So it's like
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: it's a huge budget. To then have to kind of
- 1:36:52Speaker 4: recoup on. So when it does kind of. maybe half
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: of what they thought it was going to do. It's
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: pretty minimal. I think I actually had what it said.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: I get the feeling, though, that it will probably, maybe,
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: I don't know, but it'll probably pick up over the
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: coming weeks.
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: I think so, too, because I think a lot of
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: people were just expecting it to be a big heaping turd.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: and then hearing the good stuff coming out then i
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: think people will catch on.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Yeah i mean i walked even last night when i
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: walked in there i was like.
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: This better be worth you know worth.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: The price of the tickets i paid to get in
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: because movies ain't cheap anymore.
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: And yeah what i this is what i saw earlier
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: it's like disney and lucasfilm division spent at least 400
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: million to make this and Now they're saying it will roughly,
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: their estimation, because we're going into the weekend, but its
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: estimation is 101 million over the entire Memorial Day weekend,
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: which for an opening, which they said for a movie
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: opening is great. For a Star Wars movie opening, it
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: is a big letdown. So that's the, they also mentioned
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: Star Wars fatigue, which I think is a, cap of
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: like a title for what you've been saying for a
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: while now so i hate.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: To sound like a broken record like with that i
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: really do but.
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: Well and i think it's just because it's such a
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: quick like date like again if we were if we
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: were having a life day celebration if it was a
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: year since i saw snope get cut in half you
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: know it's like i'd probably feel like all right but
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: like i don't have a problem with it because it
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: was fun but i do feel like when you start
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: looking again this is all such a business and again
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: when you've got Disney running it like they know their
- 1:38:35Speaker 4: business end of the deal so like to me that's
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: almost like a misstep for everything else they're doing right
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: I'm like why would you I know there's the summer
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: movie thing and action movies and sci-fi does really well
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: in the summer but the same time i'm like when
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: you just had one.
- 1:38:52Speaker 14: July five months ago like when we're used to a
- 1:38:56Speaker 14: year at a time five months ago we were sitting
- 1:38:59Speaker 14: here talking about snope like that's a quick turnaround for
- 1:39:03Speaker 14: such a huge big budget movie in the same universe
- 1:39:06Speaker 14: you know it's like i don't know i do think
- 1:39:09Speaker 14: that was a weird call on.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: How many years was lucas working just on the first screenplay. Yeah.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: You know, and now we're getting a movie a year.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: And my fear is that we're going to start getting
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: two of these a year.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: That's, that's probably too much. Like I was okay with the,
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: that every Christmas, because then it gave you like, and alternating,
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: because then we don't come back to the same timeline
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: once a year. It's every other year before we are
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: knee deep in exactly the same story we were last time.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: It's the same universe, sometimes crossover characters, but it's still
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: like a different timeline more or less of what we're
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: dealing with. So, I think that was just a weird
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: call on their part, and I think that's part of it.
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: That would be the only fans ever to be like,
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: you need to slow down. I don't want this immediately.
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: Which does go against the way everyone's consuming media now.
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: Now you sit down and marathon your way through an
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: entire season of a show.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: I got one another season right now. I binge watch
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: every show I can. Some shows I wait until it's
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: in a format that I can binge watch it.
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: So I can binge watch.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: It's kind of like comics. I wait until the trade
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: comes out. I don't hate reading stuff.
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: But, yeah, this is the opposite of that. It's like,
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: give me time to digest it. Give me a time
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: to even watch it a couple of times before I
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: see the next one. Because I don't know about you guys,
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: but I walk into Star Wars movies. The first time
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: I see it, I'm sitting there going, Star Wars, Star Wars,
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Star Wars. And then the second time I go back
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: and watch it, I'm like, oh, yeah, I didn't catch
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: that before. I didn't, you know. But now it's just like, oh, man.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: But we're finally starting to veer off and get, there
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: was a lot of first times in this one.
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: This is the first time there's no R2 and 3PO
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: at all.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't think about that.
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: Still got a minor appearance of Anthony Daniels, so he's
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: still in every one. I thought I heard his voice. Yeah,
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: it's a voiceover, but still worked him in. He's still
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: in every damn movie. But then.
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: I'll support that.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: I'm okay with it. Again, because, I mean, the same
- 1:41:08Speaker 4: thing with, you know, Willow shows up. Like, he's in, like,
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: ten different projects now over the years. So, it's like,
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: you know, all of these, like, we have our little family.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: It's like, we want them all to be in everything.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: He's looking pretty buff, too.
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: He's, again, that's like.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: He's held up well.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: That's what I was thinking. I'm like, to have been
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: in the original trilogy... And still, like, look kind.
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: Of the same.
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: Yeah, he was in the original trilogy. Yeah, he's Wicket. So, like,
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: he's the first one, and then he's been in all
- 1:41:34Speaker 4: of the prequel stuff, and then he's worked his way
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: into these last two.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: Because I was just excited by the, oh, he's Ron
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: Howard connection. I totally forgot about Wicket.
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that's how he got to be anyone, was coming
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: and being an Ewok. So, good for you, Warwick Davis.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: But, yeah, I feel like that's kind of part of
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: it now, is.
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: I did, just because we've gone through so many of
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: the characters, but I hadn't addressed Paul Bettany. Man, I
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: love Paul Bettany. Again, if you can deliver me a
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: good villain, and a villain that just kind of... I
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: don't even need them to be super-powered, as I've said
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: in all the other ones. This one, he doesn't even
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: have to have weird gimmicks. He's just a dude with
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: some interesting-looking scars. He's just... Jackass. Like, he's just an
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: evil bastard.
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: He's just an organized crime.
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: Because, yeah, because he's greedy and opportunistic. Like, again, all
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: of our characters are kind of crossing over into that.
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: And yet, still charming. Still charming enough, but always.
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: He needs some clear eyes. I gotta say that. He
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: needs to get some eye drops. His eyes are super red.
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: Well, again, when you already kind of look like that,
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: I guess... When you're full of force evil, it's gonna...
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: But yeah, it was one of those, again, it's one
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: of those he very, it so perfectly was like organized
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: crime boss. Because it was one of those, he is
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: sort of charming, but at the same time, it's almost
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: always with a threat.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: Like there's almost always this like, never really safe with
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: this guy. Even when he's telling me, hey, here's how
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: much I like you. It's almost like you feel like
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: it's going to be followed by, it'd be a shame
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: if something happened to you.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: It's always poised on a threat. It's like when they
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: show up at his party and they're like, look, we
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: screwed up with the heist. He's like, oh, okay, no problem.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: And then Woody Harrelson's like, but we're going to make
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: it better. That's when he gets angry. Not when he's like, oh,
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: I didn't get it. He's like, but I'm going to
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: figure out a way to fix this. That's when the
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: guy flips out and threatens to kill him.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: It's almost like he's like fine if you understand the
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: consequences of your actions.
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: Like I'm not mad.
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: It's not personal. But like if you're going to say,
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: you know, make a promise and then say, oh, we're
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: going to get it.
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: Yeah, don't tell me you're going to do something that
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: we both know you probably can't make good on because
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: then I'm going to have to kill you. Like again,
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: that's the crime boss. Like then I have to kill
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: you because you're lying to me. It's like if you
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: just screw up the mission I sent you on, that's
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: one thing but when you start lying to me that's
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: when i have to take you out and like that's
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: again it's like he's he's just so like perfectly balanced
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: and to be somebody who can be such a likable
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: character and other stuff just seeing a couple weeks ago
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: and like he's my favorite character in these new movies
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: and like to now have him be like just a
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: really evil bastard but i liked him in this.
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: I i don't know that he needed more screen time but.
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: I It was a perfect balance.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a good balance. But I liked seeing
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: him on screen. And I was intrigued by the sort
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: of but not really lightsaber type weapons that he had.
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: This is what I think is, again, we seem to
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: like so much of this. And looking at it and
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: even sitting in the theater as the credits came up.
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: And I'm like, Lawrence Kasdan. And I'm like, this is when,
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: I mean, I'm like, I know it because I know
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: who wrote Empire.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: And I'm like, the fact that he's that far, and
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: I think he's done now. I think this is where,
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: unless he changes his mind, I think this is the
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: one he's going out on. But like the fact that
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: he's involved in what most people consider to be like
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: the best of the run. And like he was there
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: like co-writing that. So like the fact that he's come
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: back to do, because he came in to do Jedi,
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: but Jedi had its own problems. So like, but like
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: the fact that he does Empire. He came back to
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: do episode seven. So it's like he's been pretty reliable
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: as far as being a good storyteller and knowing the
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: Star Wars universe. So I think the way that it
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: works and comes together so well, I think has a
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: lot to do with him. I think the most promising
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: thing is he also co-wrote it with his son. So
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: maybe he's kind of like he's he's hints and he's
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: handing it to the next here. I might not be
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: around forever. So let's keep this in the family like
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: you take over. you start writing the next one. So
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: I am hoping that's what he's doing is just kind
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: of gearing the kid up to take over. And if
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: he's writing with him now, maybe he's also a pretty
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: good writer. So I think that's so much of why
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: this has as much fun as it does and feels
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: as at home in the Star Wars universe that we
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: kind of like and doesn't spend so much time going
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: down the wrong avenues that we don't want it to.
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: Well, how many, I was just thinking this when you
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: mentioned that, you know, Jedi, how many movies not counting
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: the ewok movies how many is this now is this
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: 10 i think it's three and three right two two
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: and two yeah.
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: Yeah so there you go that's the official yeah for
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: not going down the holiday special in the ewok movies
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: and Rebels and all the other crazy.
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: As a kid, I enjoyed that first Ewok movie, but
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: it's so far removed from the rest of the story.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: I haven't watched either since the first time, I think. Like,
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: I don't think I even went back and watched them
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: as a kid like I did so much with the
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: other movies.
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: So, like, I do wonder what a nightmare they probably are.
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: Because I've now listened to, like, other people that would, like,
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: go back and talk about it, and they kind of
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: reference it like the holiday special level of what is
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: going on.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: I don't... I don't remember the first one being that bad.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: I remember even as a kid, I thought it was boring,
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: but I thought, I thought it was kind of an
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: interesting idea, but I was like, I would rather see
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: Han and Luke and, you know, not Ewoks.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Oh, we're in trouble for a second, but it's fine.
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: We're fine. So this was my final takeaway. And it
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: was cause I, even during the movie, like I do
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: remember like, During the action, and I'm having fun pretty
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: much the whole time, but there's almost like this weird
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: melancholy that's following me through this whole movie. And by
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: the end, I get there and I'm like, it's almost
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: like a full-on sadness that seeps in. And as much
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: as I like the movie and I like the ending,
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: I think it's all like, or for me, I think
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: it's all coming from the outside of But it is
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: based in the story and the character. And I think
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: it's because and some of it may be the writing
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: and that this actor playing Han Solo is so hopeful.
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: Like he really like I think that's yeah sort of
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: what makes it so much fun is he's so like
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: kind of happy even for the rough life he's had
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: and the last three years have been hell and like
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: he's separated from the the woman that he loved and
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: now they're pretty much not going to be together so
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: like you've got all these other things kind of going
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: against him, but he's still like pretty upbeat. Like he's
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: still just like kind of happy and, and has a
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: pretty good outlook on things. And even though he's already
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: telling that I'm an outlaw by the end, we see
- 1:48:44Speaker 4: he still at heart is always going to want to
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: do the right thing and always want to help the
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: people that he thinks deserves to be helped. And he's
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: going to fall on the good side. And I think
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: by the end, that's what started to weigh on me
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: was like, number one, I know where you're going to
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: be in 10 years.
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: And you're gonna have this beat out of you like
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: and again it starts to be more of a real
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: world thing of like no this is what time does
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: to you it takes you and you're this like you
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: know opportunities lay ahead of you and you're this upbeat
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: kid and you know you want to do all these
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: things and like we check in with him just 10
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: years later and he is the most just jaded motherfucker.
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: And like, it's awesome. Like I love him in four,
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: but I'm just like looking at what I know is
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: going to happen to him. And it's just, as a character,
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: it's like, he's going to become so just suspicious of everything.
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: He has a.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: Really rough life.
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: Up ahead of him. And then like, just with the life,
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: just with the outlaw lifestyle.
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: And then the fact that what got me is at
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: the end of the movie, I did feel that weight
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: because I was like, okay, he's really in love with
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: this woman and he's going to pursue her. But we
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: know that there's another woman that's going to come along
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: and take his interest. So something has to happen with
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: this one.
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: So that he can be in a position.
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: I didn't even think about that.
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: Well, even in the beginning, I thought that when they
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: were trying to get away together and I was like,
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: and that may be the problem of like the prequel
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: end of it is like, well, I know like I,
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: they're this happy couple. And like, I do like both
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: of these characters. I'm like, I know this can't end well.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: I know it. Like I know where you end up later.
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: I know you do find the love of your life.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: And as much as you care about this woman right now,
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: this isn't her. And this is not going to be
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: the woman you spend the rest of your years with. And,
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: have a child with and have a horrible breakup with.
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: And like, so it's like all of the other stuff
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: that I know is coming doesn't even happen with this woman.
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: And she is your world right now. So like all
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: of that just starts to weigh. And so by knowing,
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: first of all, just how like it's just going to
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: beat all the hope out of him. And then Luke
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: kind of like ignites that fire again and he brings
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: him back around and like he still has a good life.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: But I think it became even bigger by the end
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: of it. And maybe this reflects back to I also
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: just sat down and on a previous episode talked about
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: Creed and talked about the Rocky character. And then I
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: think that there's like echoes of that coming back in
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: of watching this. So maybe it is all these characters
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: that we spend just decades of our lives with. Then
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: I'm watching this Han Solo and I'm like, you're never
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: going to win. Like as hopeful as you are now,
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: as good as intentions as you have, as much as
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: you always try to back the right team eventually, like
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: in the end, time beats everybody so like in the
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: end all of your good intention hopefully have done something
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: for the world you leave behind but you're gonna have
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: a bad marriage you're gonna die like everything by the
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: end just got so like overwhelming that i'm just like
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: i feel so bad for this kid right now like
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: i think that's it i think because his performance is
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: so upbeat and like hopeful that it was like overwhelming
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: by the end to know that like life is just
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: going to beat that out of you until the end
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: when time wins.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: And you die.
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: And you die in a horrible way. I also know
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: how you die. It's so like the whole overall. That
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: was kind of how I sat. I sat there watching
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: the credits like a geek. And I'm just like the
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: whole time, it was just this thing washing over me
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: of like, not even like Star Wars geekery of just
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: like life in general. I was like, no, that's how
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: all of the, that's how this goes for all of us.
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: Like as much as we want to do good in
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: the end, time wins. And hopefully you did something good
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: with yourself because you're still going to die.
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: Like you're still just so dark.
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: That's what I took from this.
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: And I'm like, this was such a fun movie. And
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: that's what I was left with. I'm like, Maybe. And
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: that's why I was like, maybe it's just me. Maybe
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: it's just because I've logged in this much time with it.
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: And I'm, and like, but you're also watching.
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: I didn't think I went as deep as you did
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: with it.
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: But I'm also sitting there watching the credits and at
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: least two people are like in loving memory of come up.
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: And I'm like, so we've watched this Han Solo character
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: die in the last few years. We've watched one of
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: our main trio of people making the movie die. And
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: I'm like, so there really is sort of a finality
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: that's setting in on these movies that like, all these
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: people that have worked over the years, like we're starting
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: to lose a lot of them that were working on
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: the initial trilogy. So like, it really is sort of a, and.
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: That makes sense. That was 40 years ago.
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: But it's still, and they were all like, even the
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: younger kids are just starting to get to the point
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: of like, yeah, you know? So, I mean, I think
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: that started to factor into is like, there is a
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: finality to all of this that we put in. So
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: I guess that, that, that, that if I have hope,
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: it's again, that like, Episode 7 sort of reignited it
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: with a new generation and maybe everything that we put in,
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: much like Han Solo, everything that we put in, maybe
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: we create the rebellion. Maybe we, you know, we bring
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: a kid into the world that maybe doesn't turn evil. So, like,
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: you hope that what you did creates some ripple effect
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: that makes the world a better place. And so maybe
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: that's the episode 7 is like, okay, it's back now.
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: Star Wars is a thing. There's little kids loving it again. So, like,
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: maybe there is this, like, reigniting that fire for new
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: generations that when the rest of us kick off there
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: will still be something good that comes out of it
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: that's what i'm like i'm i eventually was trying to
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: like let's find something good from this.
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: Life is circular as fuck it's fine i.
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: Don't mean i'll be Life is circular, but when you
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: kick off, you just get dumped in a ravine with
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: a lightsaber hole in your chest. That's very true. It's
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: how I'm going to go out. We're both going to
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: get snoped in half.
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: Whatever happens, as long as the authorities can look at
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: my body and say, is that a lightsaber hole?
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: See, now my only hope is that I get spider
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: legs and I do get to come back. Guys, if
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: somebody out there is working on like a cyborg body
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: with like spider legs. Sure, really. Just keep me alive.
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: I'm fine with being a mostly machine weird creature. I'm
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: most of that way now.
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: You need to put that on like your driver's license,
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: like a sticker.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: Yeah, like none of this organ donor nonsense. I'm like
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: cyborg body. Get me a cyborg body right now. I'm
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: hoping it doesn't have that weird breathy thing. And I'm
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: leaning more towards spider legs. But I definitely would like
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: a cyborg body is what I'm saying.
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: So.
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: It's on the record now. You guys make it happen.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: Why couldn't Darth Vader use the Force to make his
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: lungs work?
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: Sometimes it's best to not think these things.
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: Well, this is another thing I say about Star Wars.
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: You pick it up.
- 1:55:43Speaker 6: There'll be another side story, side movie about the Doctor.
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: Well, you guys saw that meme that I forwarded on.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: I'm not claiming it, but it is funny just because
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: it is the couple in bed, which I've seen for
- 1:55:57Speaker 4: other things since then. But it's like the life looking
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: at him going like, What the hell is he thinking about?
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: He's probably not even thinking about me. Is he thinking, yeah,
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: it's her like caught up in relationship stuff and he's
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: sitting there looking off into the distance going, why did
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: Luke's metal hand disappear when the rest of him went
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: away and became a forest ghost? I'm like, yeah, sometimes
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: it's best to not think too deeply into the Star
- 1:56:20Speaker 4: Wars universe because there's just a lot of crazy loopholes
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: and I don't know how to fix them and just
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: hope I get spider legs, I guess, is the takeaway
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: from all. So, there you go. Anything else to add
- 1:56:38Speaker 4: to my cheery wrap-up of Solo?
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: I mean, if you haven't seen Solo, please go see it.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: You shouldn't have.
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: Listened to this.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: Don't listen to this either.
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: I told you at the beginning, that's your own fault now. So,
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: that's the thing. I guess so now we don't get
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: one in December?
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: No.
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: Is it really, like, a year and a half? I
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: kind of hope so. I mean, yeah, I guess. I
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: don't know. Like, I kind of liked having them. Well,
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: careful what you wish for, Brian.
- 1:57:08Speaker 6: You were like, don't give me one, and now it's
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: going to be like.
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: Well, don't give me two in a row, but you're
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: supposed to space it out. So, like, now we don't
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: get a Christmassy one. So now are we going all
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: the way till, like, the final trilogy chapter before we
- 1:57:21Speaker 4: get another one? I really haven't. I haven't Googled it, so.
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: I'm kind of curious to see, can the LucasArts and
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: or Disney sit on things for that long? Which maybe,
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: if this doesn't do better, they may officially do that.
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: They may not want to pump more money into this
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: until the next episode.
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: Maybe they'll just wait until May, or who knows? I'm
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: tired of guessing.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: But yeah, I do wonder what their plan is, seeing
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: how this one is not taking off. Again, it might
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: have legs. It might stick around a little while, but.
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: Boba Fett joins the insane pile of upcoming Star Wars
- 1:57:59Speaker 6: film projects.
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say he enjoys the
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: insane clown posse.
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: No, it says Boba Fett movie coming from James Mangold.
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: Oh, I think I'd heard that. I didn't know when
- 1:58:10Speaker 4: it was coming out in the timeline. But again, bringing
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: in a pretty awesome director.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: So is that our next one?
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: I'm looking right now.
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: They did say this was the first movie directed by
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: an Oscar winner. The first Star Wars movie.
- 1:58:23Speaker 6: Star Wars 9 is going to be December 2019.
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: And then when's the Boba Fett? Following that?
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: Are we still getting an Obi-Wan movie?
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:58:36Speaker 6: It says untitled third Star Wars anthology movie will be 2020.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: Yeah, so it sounds. Again, I'm sure they could change
- 1:58:43Speaker 4: that because they changed this one really quick. So that
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: could change. But if this one doesn't do so great
- 1:58:49Speaker 4: in the box office, they may not hurry up and
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: put another one out.
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: So.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: Maybe that's the best move at this point is let
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: it ride till Christmas after.
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: I think if I have to wait until Christmas next
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: year to get another one, whether it's part of the
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: saga or one of the spinoff movies, I think I'll
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: be pretty excited going into it, which I haven't felt
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: in a couple of years.
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: Well, that's what, yeah, we were just talking about on
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: that last Patreon episode was just like, and now they
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: have to figure out what their finishing move is on
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: that trilogy too.
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: Because so many people had issues with The Last Jedi that, like,
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: now we're going back to JJ, so it'll be interesting
- 1:59:29Speaker 4: to see, do we go back to his initial seven move,
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: or we have to combine the two?
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: Obviously, they're going to give us another Death Star. I mean,
- 1:59:38Speaker 2: there's no way around that.
- 1:59:39Speaker 4: At this point. Didn't get one of those this time either,
- 1:59:42Speaker 4: so thank God.
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: But we didn't get one in Empire either, so.
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying, but almost all the other ones did.
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: It's like every other movie, oh, Death Star.
- 1:59:50Speaker 4: Even, yeah. Even like God damn. Even Seven had a
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: Death Star-ish.
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: Even Three had the.
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: Its own Death Star.
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: They all.
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: Well, it had the plans for the Death Star. I
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: don't know.
- 2:00:01Speaker 6: Regarding Boba Fett, it says that there's no set release
- 2:00:04Speaker 6: date and there's not a lot of details that have
- 2:00:06Speaker 6: been released. It was once under consideration for release this year,
- 2:00:09Speaker 6: but it fell apart under director Josh Trank. um so
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: now it's james.
- 2:00:14Speaker 4: See i thought he was initially supposed to do solo
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: and got thrown out just but well actually he backed
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: out because creative differences which actually he took so much
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: heat off of that fantastic four movie that he was
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: just like no no no i'm not doing anything like
- 2:00:29Speaker 4: now especially not something huge like that and then they
- 2:00:31Speaker 4: gave it to the lego dudes and then they had
- 2:00:34Speaker 4: creative differences and and ron came in and kind of
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: saved the day so.
- 2:00:39Speaker 6: Yeah yeah um It says it's stuck in the pit
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: of development hell.
- 2:00:46Speaker 4: I really thought you were going to say regarding Henry
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: starring Boba Fett. And that, I'm like, now that! Like,
- 2:00:52Speaker 4: what if, okay, so Boba Fett goes into the Sarlacc pit. Now,
- 2:00:55Speaker 4: we've heard many times he doesn't actually get eaten right
- 2:00:57Speaker 4: away because it takes so long. Crawls back out, but
- 2:00:59Speaker 4: he's lost his memory, much like Henry. So then he
- 2:01:03Speaker 4: has to, like, paint pictures of, like, I don't know,
- 2:01:06Speaker 4: Banthas or something to, like, get like that uh yeah
- 2:01:10Speaker 4: yeah i it does that whole like twist there where
- 2:01:13Speaker 4: he's a better person in this new version of his
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: brain can we green light this i think i want
- 2:01:18Speaker 4: this lucas arts if you're listening get a hold of
- 2:01:21Speaker 4: me i'll start writing it.
- 2:01:22Speaker 2: As soon as you and we will do this for
- 2:01:24Speaker 2: a lot cheaper yeah well lawrence is like this is
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: retiring we'll take half of his money how about that
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: like we're talking an embarrassingly amount.
- 2:01:32Speaker 4: We are pretty cheap i mean Alright, so we've already
- 2:01:36Speaker 4: written a more entertaining movie than probably what's in the works,
- 2:01:39Speaker 4: so let's get that together. And we can get a
- 2:01:41Speaker 4: cameo by Harrison Ford. I'm sure he'd love to have
- 2:01:45Speaker 4: something else to do in the Star Wars show.
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because he loves.
- 2:01:48Speaker 4: It so much. I think that rounds out this year's
- 2:01:54Speaker 4: Star Wars episode. I'm sure it'll be another year and
- 2:01:57Speaker 4: a half before I talk about Star Wars on this show.
- 2:02:00Speaker 4: Nobody's buying that, right? Because it'll be next week probably, but.
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: I'll be talking to somebody about Star Wars within the
- 2:02:06Speaker 2: next hour.
- 2:02:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Like I said, that was a
- 2:02:09Speaker 4: good portion of my day yesterday was having a preemptive... Actually, again,
- 2:02:13Speaker 4: they hadn't seen it, so it was everything but Solo yesterday.
- 2:02:17Speaker 4: So my daily goings-on is just knee-deep in Star Wars.
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm trying to get it to a nice
- 2:02:23Speaker 4: balance level.
- 2:02:25Speaker 2: My wife and I were at a party earlier today,
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: and thankfully no one else there had seen it because
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: we would have been talking about it, And there would
- 2:02:35Speaker 2: be people in the corner covering their ears and shouting.
- 2:02:38Speaker 6: Spoilers!
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: And then Han Solo dies.
- 2:02:42Speaker 2: And I'd be like, there's so much nudity.
- 2:02:45Speaker 4: Well, there is a shower scene. And a Wookiee shower scene.
- 2:02:49Speaker 4: So that's really what we've all been looking for all
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: these years.
- 2:02:53Speaker 2: Just the blatant racism.
- 2:02:57Speaker 4: I mean... There kind of is in the Star Wars
- 2:02:59Speaker 4: universe anyway, but.
- 2:03:02Speaker 4: Classism and racism and robotism.
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a whole lot of.
- 2:03:07Speaker 4: But again, we're checking in at a pretty bad part
- 2:03:10Speaker 4: of the universe and timeline of the universe. Hope for
- 2:03:15Speaker 4: the future. That's what we're looking for.
- 2:03:16Speaker 2: I feel like they wanted so badly to put a
- 2:03:18Speaker 2: crawl at the opening of this movie.
- 2:03:21Speaker 4: They didn't with Rogue One. They're supposed to not do
- 2:03:24Speaker 4: it with anything not officially numbered part of the deal.
- 2:03:27Speaker 2: But you kept getting the intertitle cards.
- 2:03:30Speaker 4: Yeah, they were just like... What if we hold them still?
- 2:03:32Speaker 2: That doesn't count, right? It's not a crawl.
- 2:03:34Speaker 4: It doesn't count if it's not going anywhere. It's just
- 2:03:36Speaker 4: title cards. It's just like a silent movie, guys. It's okay.
- 2:03:39Speaker 4: All right. I'd say that about does it. Otherwise, we
- 2:03:46Speaker 4: shall return next week. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening.

- 2:08:18Speaker 2: It was relatively painless.
- 2:08:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:08:21Speaker 10: Because there wasn't that much pain. The only one got
- 2:08:23Speaker 10: dark candy. Until I showed up. But, I mean, that's
- 2:08:26Speaker 10: just because time kills us all. I had fun talking
- 2:08:29Speaker 10: about it. And then Brian's like, oh, by the way.
