- 0:46Speaker 2: author interviews, and life.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Come on in and join us. We're ready, are you?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Hey? Everyone? This is your girl SC book Out eight
- 1:04Speaker 2: four three. And guess what, you guys, I got an
- 1:08Speaker 2: author interview. I think it's the first one that then
- 1:12Speaker 2: this year. That's a children's book, y'all.
- 1:17Speaker 1: How many y'all call.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Y'all nephews and nieces peanut heads. I have three nephews,
- 1:25Speaker 2: a guy, and I call all them little peanut heads.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So when I saw the title of this book, it
- 1:31Speaker 2: made me think of my nephews. Sorry, King Tale and
- 1:36Speaker 2: Eric Auntie Love y'all. It's better than called y'all peanut
- 1:40Speaker 2: heads and waterhead drap. Okay, so you guys, I'm gonna
- 1:45Speaker 2: introduce you to a new author who is joining us
- 1:49Speaker 2: here at SC book Out and Friends for a chat.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Let's come on now, bring her up, Bring her up? Hey,
- 1:58Speaker 2: Miss Dorsey, Hi, Hello, how are you?
- 2:05Speaker 1: I am ularly?
- 2:06Speaker 2: How are you? I am doing well. I'm doing well.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Thank you for asking. I'm glad to be here. I
- 2:14Speaker 2: am super excited, as you already know.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Listen, I am all that to have you here because
- 2:19Speaker 1: we're gonna talk.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Thank you. It's TJ and Peanut, right, yes, uh, a
- 2:24Speaker 2: little little little peanut and TJ. That just sounds like
- 2:30Speaker 2: two little kids who you know, they're gonna be up
- 2:32Speaker 2: to some stuff, you know, and they are they.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So before we go with me further, tell us a
- 2:41Speaker 1: little bit about yourself.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, I am a fifty four year old mother of
- 2:49Speaker 2: a seven year old little boy. I am a family
- 2:54Speaker 2: advocate my trade. You gotta stop, girl, you know, yes, yes, yes,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I birthed him at forty six, my son I did.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And so that's the inspiration behind the book. But you know,
- 3:12Speaker 2: we'll get into that. I don't want to, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: tell too much too soon. But I'm a family advocate
- 3:19Speaker 2: by trade. Last year, around about this time, I started
- 3:24Speaker 2: venturing into acting and that led to modeling, and that
- 3:32Speaker 2: led to m seeing. That led to radio personality. And
- 3:39Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's just been like it. This has
- 3:44Speaker 2: been a welcoming, exciting journey for me. And so I
- 3:50Speaker 2: think that every day God opens up more, I learned
- 3:57Speaker 2: more about me. He opens up, he pulls back another layer,
- 4:02Speaker 2: so to speak. And so this is the most that
- 4:05Speaker 2: I have done my entire life. I'm always busy. I'm
- 4:09Speaker 2: always doing something. And the good thing about it is
- 4:14Speaker 2: my son gets to travel with me. So he's he
- 4:18Speaker 2: has been on some of the sets that I have
- 4:21Speaker 2: been on, and so he's trained to sit there and
- 4:25Speaker 2: to be quiet. As long as he's on my phone,
- 4:27Speaker 2: he's good. And so I have enjoyed this last year.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And so on top of all those things, as you know,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I'm an authoress. And so maybe within the next month
- 4:42Speaker 2: the second book will come out, so we'll be connecting again.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And this is it's an adult book, adult meaning it's
- 4:51Speaker 2: just for adults. It's about lies, scandal, sex in the church.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And so so I can't wait for that to hit
- 5:03Speaker 2: hit the shelves, the bookshelves, because you know, I really,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I honestly believe that one is gonna do better than
- 5:10Speaker 2: the children's book, because you know, we like some drama,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and nowadays you find in drama the most drama is,
- 5:20Speaker 2: you know, unfortunately it's being found in the church. And
- 5:23Speaker 2: so yeah, it's based off of things that some people
- 5:28Speaker 2: that I know have gone through, some experiences that I
- 5:32Speaker 2: have had, and it's just the truth about church. And
- 5:37Speaker 2: so I've found myself starting to write the second part
- 5:43Speaker 2: of that book, the second I guess you would say,
- 5:46Speaker 2: like not really a sequel, but just starting on the second.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Like book number two, it's called From Innocence to Lust,
- 5:54Speaker 2: So I haven't really given this one a name yet,
- 5:57Speaker 2: the second book. But yeah. So I enjoy writing, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: I write once a month, as I was saying for
- 6:05Speaker 2: Pretty Women Hustle magazine. So I get the pleasure to
- 6:09Speaker 2: vent and to pour out once a month in the
- 6:13Speaker 2: form of writing. So I have a lot of stuff
- 6:17Speaker 2: going on, but it's all good. I mean, it's it's
- 6:20Speaker 2: busy for me, but it's a good busy if I.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Can see it like this, where do you rest, girl?
- 6:31Speaker 2: I do well, you know what. To be quite honest,
- 6:33Speaker 2: I do get I do get enough rest. But it's
- 6:37Speaker 2: just that once my feet hit the floor. Now, like
- 6:41Speaker 2: I'm always doing something, And it was a period of
- 6:45Speaker 2: time a few months ago that I was doing something
- 6:48Speaker 2: like almost every weekend, I was doing something, but it
- 6:52Speaker 2: was I have enjoyed every single moment of it. And
- 6:57Speaker 2: one thing that God revealed to me during this time
- 7:01Speaker 2: is that I am an inspiration to women, you know,
- 7:06Speaker 2: women and men, but primarily women. To let them know it. Really,
- 7:12Speaker 2: God is not concerned about our age. God is concerned
- 7:16Speaker 2: about seasons. And when it's your season. I am a witness,
- 7:22Speaker 2: a living witness that when it is your season, doors
- 7:27Speaker 2: are going to open back to back to back to
- 7:30Speaker 2: back to back, and you'll think, well, am I supposed
- 7:34Speaker 2: to be doing all this stuff? Well then you say
- 7:36Speaker 2: to yourself, well, what have you been doing before now?
- 7:38Speaker 2: And then you'll think nothing, Well, it's your season to
- 7:42Speaker 2: do something, and so it's I it has it. It
- 7:48Speaker 2: hasn't fulfilled me, but then in a way it has.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I've enjoyed all of it. I have. It sounds like
- 7:57Speaker 2: your plea is full, your cup on it over, but
- 8:02Speaker 2: you are just sitting up and saying, God, I thank you.
- 8:05Speaker 2: This is the lessons that you gave me. You knew
- 8:09Speaker 2: when I was, you knew what you were bleeding up.
- 8:12Speaker 1: To, so I had my periods of rest then.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But now, yes, yes, and hot, you got me going,
- 8:19Speaker 2: so let's go ahead and do the work that you
- 8:21Speaker 2: have called me to do. I totually understand this, and
- 8:25Speaker 2: that's yeah. And that's one of the things that God
- 8:29Speaker 2: revealed to me maybe last year. He said, you know,
- 8:35Speaker 2: you haven't really been doing anything up until now, and
- 8:40Speaker 2: so everything that you're doing now, you're supposed to be
- 8:45Speaker 2: doing it, because what are you going to do sit
- 8:48Speaker 2: around and wait another ten years and wait for things?
- 8:51Speaker 2: You know, I've learned that it really don't take God
- 8:53Speaker 2: that long to speak. It's just that we're slow to hearing.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And when God answers our prayer, we second guessed him
- 9:01Speaker 2: by saying, well, you know, I don't know if it's God. Well,
- 9:04Speaker 2: I mean, you've been praying for what twenty years? Fifteen years?
- 9:07Speaker 2: When do you think God? You know, not to put
- 9:09Speaker 2: a time frame on God, but sometimes we just we
- 9:14Speaker 2: just you know, make God, you know, just a second,
- 9:20Speaker 2: a second conversation, or we make him, we put him
- 9:24Speaker 2: on the back burner, and we constantly, we constantly, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 2: deny him when he's right in front of us. And
- 9:32Speaker 2: I knew all these opportunities, I knew it was him
- 9:36Speaker 2: because the fruit behind it spoke volumes. And what I
- 9:41Speaker 2: mean by that is these different sets that I have
- 9:45Speaker 2: been on me and my son, I've been. God has
- 9:48Speaker 2: given me an awesome opportunity to minister to people, and
- 9:53Speaker 2: sometimes ministering is not always with a Bible or behind
- 9:58Speaker 2: a pulpit. Ministry to a person can be just me
- 10:02Speaker 2: meeting someone on a set and striking up a conversation
- 10:07Speaker 2: and they start telling me something that happened on their job,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and I can just simply say to them, Hey, I
- 10:13Speaker 2: went through the same thing last year. But God is able,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know what I mean. You know, we think ministry
- 10:20Speaker 2: only takes place at church. You know, we think we
- 10:23Speaker 2: can only be helped at church. It's not in the church,
- 10:27Speaker 2: we said all the time. It's not in the church,
- 10:30Speaker 2: it's outside the church. And so even in this film industry,
- 10:36Speaker 2: I have been able to minister to people, and that's
- 10:41Speaker 2: where I get my greatest fulfillment. Everything else is gonna
- 10:45Speaker 2: come if I just do the work that God has
- 10:48Speaker 2: sent me to do. Everything else is gonna come later.
- 10:52Speaker 2: So I've enjoyed everything that I've done, the writing, being
- 10:57Speaker 2: able to take my son with me. It's just been
- 11:02Speaker 2: very enjoyable. It really has. And you know what you
- 11:07Speaker 2: said so much too. In One of the things that
- 11:11Speaker 2: that sticks out to me is the fact that it's
- 11:17Speaker 2: not always in the church.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I have a twenty three year old son who has
- 11:22Speaker 2: a Discoord channel where they pray, and they read the
- 11:26Speaker 2: Bible and they play video games. This is enough dy
- 11:28Speaker 2: playing two K and preaching the word to each other. Yeah,
- 11:33Speaker 2: and I'm like he did say go to the highways
- 11:38Speaker 2: and the byways? Yeah?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Why? Like what?
- 11:42Speaker 2: And that's how I can do Look at my son
- 11:44Speaker 2: like yo, what and I see that. You know, we
- 11:54Speaker 2: gotta we we gotta go where they are, you know,
- 12:00Speaker 2: in what you're doing and talking to them when it
- 12:04Speaker 2: comes to you if you're on the set or maybe
- 12:08Speaker 2: if you're at an office signing you giving them them
- 12:10Speaker 2: that time and witnessing to them and taking that knowledge
- 12:14Speaker 2: that God has giving you and the stuff that God
- 12:16Speaker 2: isn't planning you and blessing them with some words you
- 12:19Speaker 2: you just don't know how you you you would y
- 12:23Speaker 2: minister to somebody in that Yeah, with the time and
- 12:27Speaker 2: you know what it. The reason why I know that
- 12:31Speaker 2: this time in my life is God ordained is because
- 12:34Speaker 2: I've always been a recluse. I've always been the individual
- 12:39Speaker 2: who I don't have to have a lot of people
- 12:41Speaker 2: around me. I don't always have to be going somewhere
- 12:44Speaker 2: and doing something. I'm content with coming home, you know,
- 12:49Speaker 2: getting my bath, getting my son bathed, you know, we
- 12:53Speaker 2: get something to eat and we watch TV. He runs
- 12:56Speaker 2: around the house or you know, plays his game. You know,
- 12:58Speaker 2: I've always been with that, going to church and going
- 13:02Speaker 2: to work and come home. But you know, God spoke
- 13:05Speaker 2: to me last year. He said, how are you going
- 13:09Speaker 2: to how are you going to minister to people? How
- 13:13Speaker 2: are you going to meet these make these new relationships
- 13:17Speaker 2: and create these bonds If you're doing it on the sofa,
- 13:20Speaker 2: He said, you can't. He said, You're gonna have to
- 13:23Speaker 2: get out of your comfort zone and you're gonna have
- 13:26Speaker 2: to get up and go. And I've always been the
- 13:30Speaker 2: type of person that I don't drive a lot, especially
- 13:36Speaker 2: long long distance you know, journey or trip. And so
- 13:43Speaker 2: most of the sets that I'm on is either in
- 13:46Speaker 2: Houston or Dallas, so I'm right in between both. And
- 13:50Speaker 2: so being that I never was a driver like that,
- 13:55Speaker 2: God really took me out of my comfort zone. And
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm like, who's gonna drive me? And so my sister
- 14:01Speaker 2: lives in Houston. I'm Sissy Pool, She's Sissy Do And
- 14:05Speaker 2: so I call her and I say, hey, you know
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna start doing X y Z. You know, can
- 14:11Speaker 2: you drive for me? And she was like, no, ma'am.
- 14:16Speaker 2: She said, you're gonna get your GPS. She said, you're
- 14:19Speaker 2: gonna get up. If you have to be there at three,
- 14:22Speaker 2: you leave thirty minutes earlier than the normal person would,
- 14:27Speaker 2: and you give yourself time in case you get lost.
- 14:30Speaker 2: She said, you're gonna do it on your own. She said,
- 14:33Speaker 2: because what if you didn't have me to ask? She said,
- 14:37Speaker 2: would you put your dreams on the shelf? And my
- 14:39Speaker 2: answer was no, because I had a I was gonna
- 14:45Speaker 2: be on this lady's talk show. She started a talk show.
- 14:48Speaker 2: It's called the Goldie Drake Show, and it's up by Dallas.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And so I had gotten used to Houston, but Dallas
- 14:58Speaker 2: that was a horse of a different cus. I'm like,
- 15:01Speaker 2: I don't know Dallas like that. My sister lives in Houston,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and so I had asked my husband to drive me,
- 15:09Speaker 2: and so we talked about it several times. But he
- 15:14Speaker 2: has his job and he has stuff he has to do,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and then he had a surgery that was coming up,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and so in between all of that, he said, I
- 15:24Speaker 2: can't take you. Oh my heart was broken. I was devastated.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I was I'm telling you. I called my sissy, dude
- 15:33Speaker 2: and I cried like a baby. And she's tougher than me,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and like, I'm the suburb's sister and she's the down
- 15:45Speaker 2: in the hood sister. And so she said, drat your
- 15:50Speaker 2: face up. She said, get yourself together. She said, you're
- 15:55Speaker 2: gonna drive your She said, no, ma'am, I'm not driving you.
- 15:58Speaker 2: She said, you're going to drive yourself. And I braced myself.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I got the address, I put it in GPS. From
- 16:08Speaker 2: that moment to the day, I prayed. When I tell you,
- 16:13Speaker 2: I didn't get lost. When I tell you it was,
- 16:18Speaker 2: it was a fun trip. It was an eventful trip.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I made the interview. I was on her talk show.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I was her first guest, and I did not want
- 16:31Speaker 2: to miss that because that was such an honor for
- 16:34Speaker 2: her to reach out to me and say, I would
- 16:36Speaker 2: like for you to be my first guest. So that
- 16:38Speaker 2: was like something that was on my heart to do.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And I am telling you, I am so thankful to
- 16:44Speaker 2: God because he did it. He allowed it, and he'd
- 16:50Speaker 2: let me know, see, you don't have to have what
- 16:54Speaker 2: you think you need because I'm all you need. So
- 16:58Speaker 2: I'm telling you that gave me such a I was like,
- 17:04Speaker 2: ain't nobody gonna tell me what I can't do. And
- 17:07Speaker 2: so I think I thank God that he puts people
- 17:11Speaker 2: in place to give you those words of encourage me
- 17:15Speaker 2: when you need them, because you know, had she not
- 17:20Speaker 2: been in my life or we had a good relationship
- 17:23Speaker 2: because some siblings don't, you know, I would have fumbled
- 17:27Speaker 2: the blessing. And so that was another word that God
- 17:31Speaker 2: gave me last year when all of this started. He said,
- 17:35Speaker 2: don't fumble the blessing. Don't fumble it. And that he
- 17:39Speaker 2: told me that that means that I can't fumble the blessing.
- 17:44Speaker 2: And so again I have had so much fun. I've
- 17:49Speaker 2: made so many new relationships and new friends and you know,
- 17:55Speaker 2: such as yourself, you know, and I just I wouldn't
- 18:00Speaker 2: trade anything for it. I would not. So let's talk.
- 18:04Speaker 1: About this book, y'all. I'm about to bring the title,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I mean, the book up. This is the cutest little book,
- 18:13Speaker 1: you guys. Look at this cover, Look at that at you.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Guys, ain't that the cutest?
- 18:21Speaker 3: The benches of little Peanut and TJ. So what brought
- 18:28Speaker 3: this book along? What was why Little Peanut and TJ?
- 18:35Speaker 2: Well, when I was carrying my son Trent, my sissy dude.
- 18:43Speaker 2: While he was in the womb, she started calling him
- 18:46Speaker 2: little Peanut. And so when she would see me, she
- 18:49Speaker 2: would come up to my stomach and she would say, hi,
- 18:53Speaker 2: Auntie Glam's little peanut, because she's Auntie Glam. And so
- 18:58Speaker 2: she would talk to him and call him little peanut
- 19:01Speaker 2: while he was in my wound. And so when I
- 19:05Speaker 2: decided to write the book, I said, little peanut and TJ.
- 19:11Speaker 2: TJ is my still birth that my husband and I had,
- 19:18Speaker 2: and so I was only able to carry him to
- 19:20Speaker 2: five months and we had him cremated. And so that's
- 19:24Speaker 2: who TJ is. And so the book is, it's a
- 19:30Speaker 2: book that God allowed me to write that turned my
- 19:35Speaker 2: misery into something that was happy and joyful because the
- 19:40Speaker 2: book is about receiving your joy and your peace when
- 19:44Speaker 2: God presents it to you. And so that's just a
- 19:48Speaker 2: little bit about how you know the book, you know
- 19:52Speaker 2: came to pass. When you got that copy of that
- 20:07Speaker 2: of your book in your hand, it's like your birthday
- 20:13Speaker 2: and new baby.
- 20:14Speaker 1: How did you.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Get see you when you first had your copy of it.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I didn't think that, I thought to myself, I said, well,
- 20:24Speaker 2: the publishing company did a wonderful job. I didn't expect
- 20:28Speaker 2: it to be, you know, hardcover, because it's a hardcover.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Once I got past that, I got into the emotional
- 20:39Speaker 2: part of it, and when I just you know, when
- 20:42Speaker 2: I went through it and I read it. You know,
- 20:45Speaker 2: the characters are named after some of my family members,
- 20:51Speaker 2: because I like to try to impart my family into
- 20:54Speaker 2: whatever I'm doing. And so when I read it, it
- 20:58Speaker 2: was like, this is a sea, this was once a
- 21:03Speaker 2: seed that has flourished. And so that God allowed me
- 21:08Speaker 2: to get that done, it just let me know that
- 21:13Speaker 2: he can do it again. And it inspired me to
- 21:17Speaker 2: start writing, you know, from Innocence to Us. Then my
- 21:21Speaker 2: husband and I actually wrote that together. Just the idea came.
- 21:26Speaker 2: We were driving down the highway to Dallas and I was
- 21:30Speaker 2: reading a book because at the time my goal was
- 21:33Speaker 2: to read a book a month, and so I was
- 21:36Speaker 2: reading a book and it was about church, our church,
- 21:41Speaker 2: and I said, you know what, I said, I think
- 21:42Speaker 2: we can write a book. And so I just got
- 21:44Speaker 2: a notebook and I started writing, and he would give
- 21:48Speaker 2: me his ideas, and you know, we just kind of
- 21:51Speaker 2: you know, had a little collaboration happening, and so now
- 21:55Speaker 2: it should be completely done. I would say within about
- 21:59Speaker 2: a month, and I've already started on book number two
- 22:04Speaker 2: that follows from Innocence to Lust, and so, you know,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I just you know, I've always been a paper and pencil,
- 22:13Speaker 2: carrying books around when I was in elementary school and
- 22:17Speaker 2: going to the library. But even way back then, those
- 22:22Speaker 2: were seeds. Those were seeds that are now they're blooming.
- 22:27Speaker 2: You know, it's coming up and everything is beautiful because
- 22:30Speaker 2: it's in God's season, so it's not going to be
- 22:33Speaker 2: anything else but beautiful. So you know, again, I'm just
- 22:37Speaker 2: I'm honored, I'm thankful, I'm grateful. But the one thing
- 22:43Speaker 2: that I have to be able to move past is
- 22:46Speaker 2: my age. I keep saying, why didn't I do this
- 22:50Speaker 2: when I was in my thirties? Why is this happening
- 22:52Speaker 2: in my fifties? And I think I have to get
- 22:55Speaker 2: caught up, like I feel like I have to always,
- 22:58Speaker 2: you know, be getting caught up, you know, to catch
