- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over
- 0:47Speaker 1: twelve and a half years strong. Got a great show
- 0:49Speaker 1: this week for you as we are bringing in twenty
- 0:52Speaker 1: twenty six. I cannot believe it's twenty twenty six. I'm
- 0:56Speaker 1: Jeff Warren, I'm here, my good buddy, Len hounsicker. Len,
- 0:59Speaker 1: We're still live. It's twenty twenty six.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I every year that goes by, it's just like, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: if you thought about this year when you were a kid,
- 1:08Speaker 2: you'd be like, and we've all had the thing of like, oh,
- 1:11Speaker 2: there's gonna be flying cars.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And all that stuff, right, right, But yet there isn't right.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean the concept of twenty twenty six. Yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 2: if you go back to your younger self is just
- 1:22Speaker 2: like what.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Exactly, Especially the nineties, Like even though the two thousands
- 1:26Speaker 1: were like right around the corner, even in the nineties,
- 1:28Speaker 1: it was like, now, this isn't possible. We're not going
- 1:30Speaker 1: to be living in twenty twenties. Are at getting Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Like I.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Had that thought about when my wife and I bought
- 1:37Speaker 2: our house, you know, and you had the amortization schedule,
- 1:41Speaker 2: yea and ours goes into like twenty fifty three, and
- 1:44Speaker 2: the first thing that went into my head was, oh,
- 1:46Speaker 2: I'll be dead by that. You know, I didn't even
- 1:49Speaker 2: like that year is such a weird concept to me.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And I'm sure twenty twenty six is the same thing
- 1:55Speaker 2: for you know, our younger selves.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I felt the same thing when when
- 1:59Speaker 1: we signed our doc comments.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, loans, yeah, exactly, It's like I'll
- 2:05Speaker 3: be dead. Yeah, oh man, what was your holiday?
- 2:10Speaker 4: Good Man?
- 2:11Speaker 2: It was good. Yeah. We stayed up here for for Christmas,
- 2:15Speaker 2: and then I went to go visit my folks. We
- 2:17Speaker 2: had our Christmas down there with my folks around New Year's.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Good old Narstown.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, so it was good. It was low key,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and and that's just fine by me anymore.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Absolutely, Seriously, as we're getting older, low ki is much
- 2:33Speaker 1: much better. I just yeah, I mean we used to still,
- 2:36Speaker 1: we used to go pretty hard on New Year's Eve.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, I mean when when you're in that age,
- 2:43Speaker 2: in your twenties and your early thirties, maybe even until Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: New Year's Eve is is kind of like the super
- 2:49Speaker 2: Bowl of going out and partying. But now it's just like, oh,
- 2:54Speaker 2: am I gonna Am I gonna make it to midnight? Yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 2: we'll say.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I just I'll say to our our buddy Dave, who
- 2:59Speaker 1: we've refer every now and again on this show, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: you know Eric has as well. You know, I was.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was with with him as his wife, who's my cousin.
- 3:06Speaker 1: She's like a sister to me, and uh, just hanging
- 3:10Speaker 1: out and having adult beverages throughout the evening and just
- 3:13Speaker 1: the next day. I was just a nothing, a complete nothing,
- 3:18Speaker 1: laying around and I'm like, oh, my forty eight year
- 3:22Speaker 1: old body.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Can't do I didn't even really I think, like yeah, Like,
- 3:28Speaker 2: like I said, I was down with my parents' place,
- 3:30Speaker 2: my wife and I and my parents watch a Stranger
- 3:32Speaker 2: Things finale. Oh and then we then we watched you know,
- 3:36Speaker 2: then we watched just one of the you know, New
- 3:38Speaker 2: Year's Eve shows. I had like maybe a beer, maybe two,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and so I wasn't feeling Yeah, I wasn't feeling bad
- 3:44Speaker 2: the next day, but I wasn't like partying, yeah, or
- 3:47Speaker 2: even attempting to do anything of the sort.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I was bulldozing at one point. Yeah, I was out
- 3:53Speaker 1: at one point, and I was like, huh.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Still going for it.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe maybe I should stop it. At that point,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I was like, oh boy, I really go for it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I have a problem here. At that point I knew
- 4:04Speaker 1: I'm liking it. Tomorrow I'm going to be nothing. So
- 4:08Speaker 1: it was fun and Happy New Year to all of
- 4:10Speaker 1: you out there. If you're watching on YouTube, if you
- 4:13Speaker 1: just happen to catch us on YouTube, you can like
- 4:16Speaker 1: and subscribe to the show. We'd appreciate that and hope
- 4:19Speaker 1: you enjoy our Philly sports content and sports World content
- 4:22Speaker 1: as well. This week on the show, Len and I,
- 4:25Speaker 1: we're gonna dive into our reflect or. I should say,
- 4:28Speaker 1: we're gonna reflect on our initial NFL division predictions here.
- 4:34Speaker 1: If you I'll just put this out there. If you're
- 4:36Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, you're not actually gonna hear our predictions.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I need to figure out how to actually do that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Even though we fully been we've didn't been. I've been
- 4:46Speaker 1: doing this video stuff now since April. I don't necessarily
- 4:50Speaker 1: know how to get that into the show here at
- 4:52Speaker 1: this point. I could probably figure it out, but I
- 4:55Speaker 1: think I just don't have the time to do that.
- 4:58Speaker 2: But we're gonna read off each division of yeah, you
- 5:01Speaker 2: know who picked on and.
- 5:02Speaker 1: All that kind of ye absolutely, and then from there
- 5:04Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some Sixers talk. They're actually number five,
- 5:08Speaker 1: ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference as of us recording this.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It'll be I think, stabilizing the rotation once Kelly or
- 5:17Speaker 1: Bray Junior comes back. We're gonna just discuss some sixers stuff.
- 5:21Speaker 1: And then Philadelphia Union, my gosh, making another move. Not
- 5:25Speaker 1: a great move at all, and we're gonna certainly dive
- 5:27Speaker 1: into that, and then some quick thoughts on how this
- 5:30Speaker 1: Phillies off season has been going. There haven't been too
- 5:34Speaker 1: many quote big big signings by this organization, something we've
- 5:39Speaker 1: kind of been used to over these years, and Lenn
- 5:42Speaker 1: and I are just gonna give some thoughts on what
- 5:45Speaker 1: some of these moves have, what they've actually meant to
- 5:49Speaker 1: the Phillies offseason thus far. We're gonna be thrown down
- 5:52Speaker 1: on the table this week. We've got Nick Pecone from
- 5:55Speaker 1: Crossing broad He's going to join us to talk about
- 5:58Speaker 1: this Eagles team as they head into the playoffs. We're
- 6:00Speaker 1: going to dive into the offense, some defensive stuff as well.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So Len, why don't we first get into our predictions here?
- 6:07Speaker 1: If you are listening on whatever audio platform you're on
- 6:11Speaker 1: right now, you are going to hear the predictions that
- 6:15Speaker 1: Lenn and I did for the NFL division winners right
- 6:18Speaker 1: before the season started. Let's get to that right now.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Let's go through each division. We're gonna pick division winners
- 6:25Speaker 1: and the wild card winners at this point, Len, I mean, hey,
- 6:29Speaker 1: why don't we start off with the Let's start off
- 6:32Speaker 1: with the NFC. Let's go with the NFC North. Who
- 6:35Speaker 1: do you like in the NFC North to win the division?
- 6:39Speaker 2: I feel like this is going to be such a
- 6:41Speaker 2: trendy pick since they got Micah Parsons, But I'm gonna
- 6:45Speaker 2: go Green Bay.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Green Bay as well. I think that
- 6:48Speaker 1: they are definitely the favorites. And yes, Michael Parsons really
- 6:52Speaker 1: does put them over the edge. And do I think
- 6:55Speaker 1: Jordan Love is going to be a better quarterback this season?
- 6:57Speaker 1: I absolutely do. He's has a young wide receiver core
- 7:00Speaker 1: who I think is going to continue to develop with him.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Green Bay Packers for sure for me. So we're definitely
- 7:07Speaker 1: an agreement on that one. Is it Micah Parsons with
- 7:09Speaker 1: you in particular? Is that why you're thinking that he's
- 7:12Speaker 1: going to be able to put them over the edge.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I feel like Jordan Love is going to take a
- 7:17Speaker 2: little bit more of a step forward this year. Parsons
- 7:19Speaker 2: is obviously going to help the defense. Yeah, And I
- 7:22Speaker 2: just feel like, you know, even though I'm going to
- 7:24Speaker 2: pick them, spoiler alert is one of my wildcard teams.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I feel like there's got to be some kind of
- 7:31Speaker 2: come back to earth with Detroit, and I think that
- 7:35Speaker 2: I think the Green Bay takes that division.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Okay, let's move over to the NFC West. Let's do
- 7:41Speaker 1: the NFC West. I am going to be picking the
- 7:45Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers to win this division. I
- 7:49Speaker 1: think this is a team that has remained quote consistent
- 7:53Speaker 1: when they don't have injuries. I cannot imagine this team
- 7:55Speaker 1: having as many injuries as they have had the past
- 7:58Speaker 1: couple of seasons.
- 7:59Speaker 2: They really took it on the chin last year, really.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Dres Yeah, but I think if they if they are
- 8:05Speaker 1: healthy and are able to stay healthy, I would imagine
- 8:07Speaker 1: they probably would. I cannot imagine them having a season
- 8:09Speaker 1: like last year from an injury perspective. I'm picking the
- 8:12Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers. Who do you have in
- 8:13Speaker 1: the NFC West.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm also going forty nine ersk and again, and
- 8:19Speaker 2: it's just basically because I just can't believe that's gonna
- 8:22Speaker 2: happen to him, with all those injuries two years in
- 8:26Speaker 2: a row. I just don't see it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: All right, let's move to the NFC South. Who are
- 8:31Speaker 1: you thinking here? Oh my gosh, I I gotta read
- 8:35Speaker 1: erics as well. I completely forgot about Eric's Well, why
- 8:38Speaker 1: don't you dive into the NFC South at this point,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna get Eric's picks up here that he shot
- 8:45Speaker 1: us off a little earlier today.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So the South, I don't know what to make of it.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I don't believe in Carolina yet. The Saints I think
- 8:56Speaker 2: might end up being one of the worst teams in
- 8:58Speaker 2: football this year. Agree, So I think it's a two
- 9:01Speaker 2: horse race. I mean, man, Michael Penix might be one
- 9:08Speaker 2: of the more interesting players in in I agree football
- 9:11Speaker 2: this year because I think if he does what he
- 9:17Speaker 2: can do what I think he can do, I think
- 9:19Speaker 2: Atlanta's got a good shot at winning that division, only
- 9:22Speaker 2: because like isn't is Tristan Wurfs. Is he out for
- 9:25Speaker 2: the year for Tampa. I don't know.
- 9:28Speaker 1: If he's out for the year, I'll have to look
- 9:30Speaker 1: that up. I don't know if it's.
- 9:31Speaker 2: He's got an injury, Chris godwins coming back from an injury. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 2: there's just a lot going on there. I'm gonna go Atlanta,
- 9:40Speaker 2: but I don't feel great about it. I could if
- 9:43Speaker 2: Tampa wins that division, it wouldn't shock me at all.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Tristan Wurf's his return is uncertain. He's gonna miss
- 9:50Speaker 1: at least the beginning of this season, So I do
- 9:52Speaker 1: think he'll be back at some point. And guess what
- 9:55Speaker 1: I'm going with the Atlanta Falcons as well, just because
- 9:57Speaker 1: of what I said with Michael Pennix, and I think
- 10:01Speaker 1: if if, if, oh my gosh, he's the tight end
- 10:05Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts. This guy has so much talent and has
- 10:09Speaker 1: been through the ringer with how many quarterbacks during his
- 10:12Speaker 1: young career.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember when he was the people were just
- 10:15Speaker 2: going up like, oh man, this guy's going to be
- 10:17Speaker 2: kind of revolutionized the tight end position in all this.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he actually has a quarterback that's able to throw
- 10:23Speaker 1: the ball to him. The thing about Michael Pennix was
- 10:26Speaker 1: he didn't always handle the rush well when it came
- 10:29Speaker 1: to that. That last game is last college game. Ever,
- 10:32Speaker 1: against Michigan, he was on the run. He didn't have
- 10:35Speaker 1: a lot of pass pass rushing throughout the course of
- 10:38Speaker 1: his senior year when he was playing, and I think
- 10:41Speaker 1: that could be a bit a bit troublesome for him.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But still, I think the Atlanta Falcons are gonna take
- 10:47Speaker 1: that division for sure. I'd be remiss if I didn't
- 10:51Speaker 1: read Eric's predictions here so far in terms of the
- 10:55Speaker 1: NFC North. He also picked Green Bay Len. He also
- 10:59Speaker 1: or I shouldn't say all so, but he actually picked
- 11:01Speaker 1: Tampa Bay to win the NFC North. And he picked
- 11:04Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. He thinks, uh Sam Darnold's gonna gonna
- 11:08Speaker 1: maybe put on a bit of a show there and
- 11:10Speaker 1: get them to the playoffs.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I mean, certainly possible.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, possible, for sure. I guess let's move to the
- 11:16Speaker 1: NFC East. Now, do you think it's gonna be the
- 11:19Speaker 1: Washington Commanders, Lynn? Do you think it is? What do
- 11:21Speaker 1: you think about the NFC East?
- 11:24Speaker 2: The whole uh no team has won the division back
- 11:28Speaker 2: to back years since what was it, oh three, oh four?
- 11:31Speaker 1: It's like oh four, I believe, yeah, yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I mean that that makes me like hmm, But I.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think, yes, that ship's gonna end.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I I it's I just don't see enough. And
- 11:49Speaker 2: I think Daniels is a hell of a quarterback, but
- 11:53Speaker 2: I I feel like everybody is just waiting to crown him,
- 11:57Speaker 2: waiting to make him like the next Oh, he's the
- 12:01Speaker 2: best quarterback at least in the NFC.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think there's gonna be some regression with him. To
- 12:04Speaker 1: be honest, yeah, I could.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I could see a world in which there's a step back,
- 12:09Speaker 2: and that's you know, look, I'm not saying the Eagles
- 12:12Speaker 2: are going to be a juggernaut. I I there's some
- 12:15Speaker 2: stuff with them that scares me. I think they've got
- 12:17Speaker 2: some holes, particularly defensively that I think we're gonna have
- 12:21Speaker 2: a couple of games here and there where we're pretty
- 12:24Speaker 2: damn frustrated with what we see.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We're going to get into that for sure, absolutely, yeah, yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So, but I just I don't see enough from any
- 12:32Speaker 2: of these other teams to make me go away from
- 12:34Speaker 2: the Eagles unless they have like a forty nine ers
- 12:37Speaker 2: type season with injuries.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'm going with Philadelphia Eagles too. I think that
- 12:42Speaker 1: that streak of not having a back to back division winner,
- 12:46Speaker 1: that shit ends this season. It's done. So it's done.
- 12:50Speaker 1: All right, let's move over to the AFC. Now, let's
- 12:54Speaker 1: start with the AFC North. Who do you think is
- 12:56Speaker 1: going to be winning the AFC North this this coming season?
- 12:59Speaker 2: I can't imagine there's going to be too many people
- 13:02Speaker 2: not picking the Bills.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's going to be uh but that's the that's the
- 13:06Speaker 1: AFC East. Oh, I'm sorry, what did you say AFC North?
- 13:11Speaker 1: I mean if C North. I'm sorry, I'm I'm blacking. Well, okay,
- 13:15Speaker 1: same deal. Just swap out the Ravens for the Bills.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Why don't we Why.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Don't we just do the a f C East and
- 13:21Speaker 1: the a f C North right now? Because you and
- 13:23Speaker 1: I have the same exact yes.
- 13:25Speaker 2: These and guess what, so does everybody else.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So does everybody else. Buffalo winning the a f C East,
- 13:30Speaker 1: Baltimore winning the AFC North. Eric has the same as well.
- 13:36Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the a f C South.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You know, let's put it this way. The a f
- 13:41Speaker 2: C South is the only division where not everybody is
- 13:45Speaker 2: going to have the same team, right, I mean, can
- 13:48Speaker 2: we can we agree on that?
- 13:50Speaker 1: I think so?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yep? Oh man, you want to talk about a division that.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I mean talk about poot birds. Don't know what to
- 14:00Speaker 2: make of these teams. Jacksonville seems perpetually like tripping over themselves.
- 14:06Speaker 2: The Colts quarterback situation is abysmal. Yeah, I mean Ward
- 14:11Speaker 2: over in Tennessee. I just he's a rookie. It's an
- 14:14Speaker 2: awful lot to put on him. It's Texans by default for.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Me, Okay, Texans by default. I'm actually gonna go with
- 14:22Speaker 1: what Eric Eric thought too. I think Jacksonville is going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to take that next step. I do.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I mean, I believe it's gonna happen finally, maybe one
- 14:30Speaker 2: of these years.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Christ I keep picking him every freaking year. It doesn't happen.
- 14:35Speaker 1: It's gotta happen one of these years eventually, right, Yes, Look,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I think Trevor Lawrence. Yes, he is a very high
- 14:41Speaker 1: paid quarterback for the type of productivity that he gives
- 14:44Speaker 1: this team way too many interceptions a year after a year.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But I do think that Trevor Lawrence is going to
- 14:49Speaker 1: really help this offense in a lot of ways this year.
- 14:51Speaker 1: From a jority standpoint, He's gonna be able to get
- 14:54Speaker 1: the ball downfield in my opinion.
- 14:55Speaker 2: So yeah, he's a guy that you know, if you're
- 14:58Speaker 2: looking for e Leape candidate, a guy to really take
- 15:00Speaker 2: a step forward this year, If he happens to be
- 15:03Speaker 2: that guy, then they're a slamm dunk.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think in the South, well, Eric and I may
- 15:08Speaker 1: be talking about the Houston Texans at some point. Okay,
- 15:11Speaker 1: that's what we're moving along with our predictions. So let's
- 15:14Speaker 1: go now with the Uh, what is the AFC West
- 15:17Speaker 1: at this point? I mean, the Chiefs I think are
- 15:20Speaker 1: still going to remain on top. Patrick Mahomes, Yeah, he's
- 15:23Speaker 1: taking some steps back, and certainly against Philadelphia Eagles in
- 15:26Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, but I think it's the Chief's division
- 15:29Speaker 1: to lose here at this point. Are you think of
- 15:31Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 15:32Speaker 2: I mean until just like I won't pick Penn State
- 15:36Speaker 2: to be Ohio be Ohio State until they actually do,
- 15:39Speaker 2: I'm not picking anybody to win the AFC West until
- 15:41Speaker 2: they actually do. So. Yeah, Kansas City, for me, I
- 15:46Speaker 2: think that that Super Bowl against the Eagles is probably
- 15:49Speaker 2: gonna leave a pretty nasty taste in their mouth. And
- 15:52Speaker 2: I think there's gonna be a lot of guys on
- 15:54Speaker 2: that team that are motivated to come back and say, hey,
- 15:58Speaker 2: we're not dead yet. I think that they're gonna I
- 16:02Speaker 2: think they may have more of a chip on their
- 16:04Speaker 2: shoulder than any team in football.
- 16:05Speaker 1: All right, very good, and I think I think that's
- 16:08Speaker 1: absolutely valid, of course, given the way that their season
- 16:11Speaker 1: ended against the Eagles. So Eric also picked the Kansas
- 16:14Speaker 1: City Chiefs. I forget if I had mentioned that. So
- 16:17Speaker 1: let's go through the wall, soomed, all right, and if
- 16:21Speaker 1: you're watching on YouTube, we're just gonna continue into it.
- 16:25Speaker 1: If you're listening, you just obviously heard those predictions. So Len,
- 16:30Speaker 1: let's for the the YouTube watchers and listeners, let's go
- 16:34Speaker 1: through some of these predictions here. I'm gonna do the
- 16:37Speaker 1: NFC and then I'll have you do the AFC if
- 16:39Speaker 1: that's cool, okay, okay, So, as the audio listeners just heard, Len,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Eric and myself, we thought the Packers were gonna win
- 16:48Speaker 1: the NFC North. In terms of the NFC West, Len
- 16:52Speaker 1: had the forty nine ers winning that division as well
- 16:55Speaker 1: as myself and Eric picked the Seahawks. He nailed that
- 16:58Speaker 1: one for sure.
- 17:00Speaker 2: South.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Len and myself picked the Falcons. We thought Michael Pennox
- 17:04Speaker 1: Junior was going to do some good stuff and bait.
- 17:07Speaker 1: We see how the end of that season happened for
- 17:09Speaker 1: the Falcons there, Eric picked the Buccaneers to win that division,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and in the NFC East, all three of us picked
- 17:16Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl champions, to break
- 17:19Speaker 1: that streak of not having one team win consecutive years
- 17:25Speaker 1: since two thousand and four when the Eagles last did it,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and certainly the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC East. So Len,
- 17:31Speaker 1: why don't you take us through the AFC North predictions
- 17:34Speaker 1: here so folks can know what our predictions were back
- 17:37Speaker 1: for the season started all.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Right, well, the AFC North, all three of us left
- 17:42Speaker 2: on all three of us, YEA to the Baltimore Ravens,
- 17:46Speaker 2: and they did not. They had lost to the Steelers yep,
- 17:50Speaker 2: in that last game. And there's a hardball out there,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you know, if any teams are interested, So not the
- 17:58Speaker 2: one that Jeff hates. I don't know how you feel
- 18:00Speaker 2: about his brother. I really don't.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He's been annoying me as a late and he's been
- 18:04Speaker 1: annoying me for various reasons. I'll keep it there.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Probably probably the most innocuous stuff ever, and you just
- 18:11Speaker 2: choose to be annoyed by it. Absolutely is anyway, So
- 18:16Speaker 2: let's let's keep the trend going of AFC divisions that
- 18:19Speaker 2: we all completely missed on. Let's move to the east.
- 18:22Speaker 2: We all had the Bills, and the Patriots are are back. Unfortunately, Yeah,
- 18:28Speaker 2: the Patriots are back.
- 18:29Speaker 1: We'll get into that a little bit more in a bit.
- 18:31Speaker 2: We all missed on that. We all also missed on
- 18:35Speaker 2: the AFC West. We just kind of hit the easy
- 18:37Speaker 2: button and assumed the Chiefs would continue to be the Chiefs,
- 18:40Speaker 2: and they have taken a gigantic step back this year
- 18:43Speaker 2: and won that division. Chiefs didn't even finish second. It
- 18:47Speaker 2: was Denver and then the Chargers the only one, let's see,
- 18:51Speaker 2: the only one where anybody got anything right. It wasn't me.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I picked Houston playoffs. Yeah, AFC South did make the playoffs,
- 19:01Speaker 2: but they came in second to Jacksonville, who you and.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Eric both absolutely AFC was so bizarre this season, and
- 19:08Speaker 1: really I think we just I just want to reflect
- 19:12Speaker 1: on this this NFL season with the New England Patriots,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and I think you said it, Lehn. They're back. They
- 19:18Speaker 1: are and and it stinks to know that the New
- 19:21Speaker 1: England Patriots are back. And a lot of that I
- 19:24Speaker 1: think is because of their coach, Mike Rabel. I mean,
- 19:26Speaker 1: there's a lot of the same guys on this roster
- 19:29Speaker 1: quite frankly that was there last year. Yes, Drake may
- 19:34Speaker 1: certainly took steps forward.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I didn't, I think lead.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yes, I didn't see it coming. I did not see
- 19:40Speaker 1: that coming at all. And I don't think a lot
- 19:42Speaker 1: of folks did. I think a lot of folks thought,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you know, he was going to make quarterback progress in
- 19:47Speaker 1: some way, shape or form this year, but not to
- 19:50Speaker 1: the extent that he did. And granted, yes, there may
- 19:52Speaker 1: be folks out there that say they had the easiest
- 19:53Speaker 1: schedule in the entire league. Yes they did, But you
- 19:56Speaker 1: know what, you're still playing NFL talent out there, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: if if you're at the top of your game the
- 20:02Speaker 1: way that they were consistently throughout the season, I think
- 20:04Speaker 1: there's something to be said for that. Like you said, Lenn,
- 20:07Speaker 1: Patriots are back, it's kind of it stays at their back.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I mean, if you have a good head coach, quarterback combo.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I mean that already is such a huge foundation, and
- 20:19Speaker 2: the Patriots have it. I mean in both those guys.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yep, How in the world can a team like the
- 20:26Speaker 1: New York Jets just not get it?
- 20:28Speaker 2: Together again.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Ever, it's just amazing to me. You talk about that
- 20:34Speaker 1: quarterback coach, Combo. I do think we see it with
- 20:37Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. I do, and we certainly
- 20:41Speaker 1: see it with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. I think
- 20:44Speaker 1: there are a number of coaches out there with their quarterbacks.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I mean just look at you know, Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purty.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You know, we've got this game coming up between the
- 20:52Speaker 1: Eagles and forty nine Ers, which honestly I'm a bit
- 20:54Speaker 1: concerned about, I really am.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, depending on how you feel about Bo Nicks, him
- 20:59Speaker 2: and Sean Payton in Denver, look at what they did
- 21:01Speaker 2: this year.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it amazes me that the Jets haven't had it,
- 21:05Speaker 1: perhaps in our lifetime, that coach.
- 21:10Speaker 2: You can just be so consistently wrong, Yes, I mean
- 21:14Speaker 2: every year. Like it's like it's confounding. I mean it's
- 21:23Speaker 2: like you couldn't go to Vegas and lose a hand
- 21:25Speaker 2: no blackjack that many times as the Jets have been bad.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's just yeah, I mean you almost have
- 21:33Speaker 2: to try. I am. I don't think they want to
- 21:36Speaker 2: be bad, but like clearly there's something with their process
- 21:39Speaker 2: that is just so bad. And that goes to the
- 21:41Speaker 2: very top, because you know, it goes it's the top,
- 21:46Speaker 2: and then the decisions that they make at the top.
- 21:49Speaker 2: That's the only thing that I can think of.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And there's one other NFL team that that is right
- 21:54Speaker 1: on par with them, and it's the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 21:57Speaker 1: The same way. Quarterback and coach just haven't been able
- 22:01Speaker 1: to get that together. It's absolutely astonishing to me. And hey,
- 22:05Speaker 1: look at look at the top of the Raiders. Not
- 22:08Speaker 1: the greatest ownership in the world, you know, guys, haircut stinks.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Not at least like it. Maybe, I mean, the Raiders
- 22:16Speaker 2: have been around forever, but it maybe feels a little
- 22:18Speaker 2: bit new just because they haven't been in Vegas for
- 22:21Speaker 2: that long that I think, you know, maybe I don't
- 22:24Speaker 2: look at them the way I look at Jets, right,
- 22:27Speaker 2: I think that has something to do with it. But yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 2: the Raiders are a bad organization.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I'll also mention in terms of the NFC and
- 22:35Speaker 1: our predictions there. I mean, the NFC is such a
- 22:37Speaker 1: stronger conference, for sure, but I really did think that
- 22:42Speaker 1: the Packers would have a better season than they had,
- 22:45Speaker 1: and I really don't think anybody saw the Chicago Bears
- 22:48Speaker 1: pulling out win after win after win like they did
- 22:52Speaker 1: this season. The NFC North was really interesting, and the
- 22:55Speaker 1: fact that the Lions really took steps back as well.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I think that's going to be a more interesting division
- 23:01Speaker 1: in the future again, given the Packers expectations, the surprises
- 23:07Speaker 1: from the Bears, and then also this may be a
- 23:11Speaker 1: Lions team that is in flux and their window may
- 23:15Speaker 1: be closed at this point.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yeah, which is crazy because I mean last year, you're like,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I mean, they have youngish talent, and you just thought
- 23:24Speaker 2: and and a coach, and everybody seemed like and Dan
- 23:27Speaker 2: Campbell and you're just like, Okay, they're going to be
- 23:29Speaker 2: around for I picked them. I might. I don't remember
- 23:32Speaker 2: a lot about the predictions until you sent them to me,
- 23:36Speaker 2: but I remember my Super Bowl was Detroit and Buffalo.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And I mean that ain't happening, right, So yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 2: And it's and it's just funny to see them because
- 23:47Speaker 2: I'm looking at the ESPN standings here and you see
- 23:50Speaker 2: them stacked on top of each other, the North and
- 23:52Speaker 2: the South. You know, we're talking about the Lions as
- 23:54Speaker 2: if they were atrocious. They were an over five hundred team,
- 23:57Speaker 2: they were nine and eight. If they were in the South,
- 24:00Speaker 2: they would win that division. Because you had the Panthers
- 24:02Speaker 2: winning that division at eight and nine. They were eight
- 24:04Speaker 2: and nine, the Bucks rate nine, the Falcons were eight
- 24:06Speaker 2: and nine, and then the Saints are six and eleven.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I mean, just the worst division in football. It is,
- 24:12Speaker 2: so it it matters where you are. I mean, the
- 24:15Speaker 2: North they're all over five hundred, the South they're all
- 24:17Speaker 2: under five hundred. So sometimes that's unfortunately, just that the
- 24:21Speaker 2: way it goes, you're you're in a dog pile.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah, man, that that NFC South. Honestly, when you know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: before we you know, move to our first break here
- 24:30Speaker 1: and then we get into some sixers in union talk,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I got to tell you that NFC South. I remember
- 24:37Speaker 1: years ago when the division winner was like seven and nine.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Do you remember that, like years ago? It's just it's
- 24:43Speaker 1: just a crap division, it really is.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I mean, I mean, I know the Saints
- 24:51Speaker 2: are you know, kind of have a legacy, and the
- 24:54Speaker 2: Buccaneers have won a Super Bowl. But it's just like
- 24:57Speaker 2: if the NFL went into contraction and contracted these teams, Yeah,
- 25:02Speaker 2: how many people would would notice? I mean outside of
- 25:05Speaker 2: those cities obviously, right, how many people would really care? Like, honestly,
- 25:10Speaker 2: the Panthers who won that division are one of those
- 25:12Speaker 2: teams to me where it's just like, if I'm trying
- 25:14Speaker 2: to go through and name every team in football just
- 25:17Speaker 2: off the top of my head, the Panthers are one
- 25:19Speaker 2: of those ones that are gonna trip me up, I'm
- 25:20Speaker 2: gonna I just forget about them.
- 25:22Speaker 1: You'll get down to you'll name thirty teams and you're like,
- 25:25Speaker 1: oh man, there's two more. Yeah, darn who are they?
- 25:28Speaker 2: And yes, exactly you can't remember exactly.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Well, folks, we'd love to know what your thoughts are
- 25:35Speaker 1: in terms of your NFL predictions, any surprises that you
- 25:40Speaker 1: know you saw throughout the season, whether it's with teams
- 25:43Speaker 1: or various storylines. Leave us a comment if you're watching
- 25:46Speaker 1: on YouTube and we'd love to We'd love to hear
- 25:48Speaker 1: from you, and you can also email us Philadelphia Sports
- 25:51Speaker 1: Table at gmail dot com. Love to read your email
- 25:53Speaker 1: here on the show and respond to it. So that
- 25:56Speaker 1: being said, we are going to take a break and
- 25:58Speaker 1: when we come back, we are going to dive into
- 26:01Speaker 1: some Sixers talk, some Union talk, and then we're gonna
- 26:03Speaker 1: get into some Phillies talk as well. Stick with us,
- 26:06Speaker 1: we'll be right back. All right, we are back, and
- 26:10Speaker 1: I think it's time to dive into some sixers talk.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I feel like we haven't done a ton of analysis
- 26:16Speaker 1: and just our thoughts on this team necessarily len over
- 26:19Speaker 1: the course of the past month, because it's really been
- 26:22Speaker 1: just like a I feel like it's this kind of
- 26:25Speaker 1: like flatline team in a way. You know, you get
- 26:27Speaker 1: some you get some hiccups with them, you also see
- 26:31Speaker 1: some life every now and again. And look, I'm happy
- 26:35Speaker 1: that this team is at a point where they're well
- 26:38Speaker 1: over five hundred right now. As I mentioned at the top,
- 26:42Speaker 1: they're number five in the Eastern Conference as of us
- 26:45Speaker 1: recording this. Joel Embiid was able to dunk this past
- 26:50Speaker 1: week and what a great face.
- 26:54Speaker 2: It's just so funny to be that that that was
- 26:56Speaker 2: like a headline.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I know, dude, hey, we're at that point at that points.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Like yeah, I mean I remember seeing that, like that
- 27:05Speaker 2: was literally the headline of the game article the next day.
- 27:09Speaker 2: It was like he was like he's seven ft tall, really.
- 27:14Speaker 1: What he could just put his arm up?
- 27:19Speaker 2: But yeah, I know, yes, what's happening.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I know, I know, But look, you take a look
- 27:26Speaker 1: at this season, and quite frankly, I want to continue
- 27:31Speaker 1: to have that optimistic feeling about this team. Not that
- 27:34Speaker 1: they're gonna win a championship, quite frankly, but you see
- 27:38Speaker 1: that they have a chance, I think, to do some
- 27:41Speaker 1: damage every now and again when they have VJ. Edge
- 27:45Speaker 1: coming of course Tyrese Maxi. When those two guys are
- 27:48Speaker 1: on the court, I mean that there is there's an
- 27:52Speaker 1: energy with the team, you know. And this team has
- 27:56Speaker 1: also gone through injuries, whether it's with Embiid you know,
- 28:00Speaker 1: Paul George as well, especially during the start of the season,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and they haven't had Kelly Youubray Junior for a while now.
- 28:07Speaker 1: But I think once Kelly Ubray Junior comes back and
- 28:12Speaker 1: returns to the rotation, it's going to provide this team
- 28:16Speaker 1: more bodies out there. And I think it, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 1: it goes without saying that Maxi and edgecomb they need
- 28:21Speaker 1: to be great on just about a nightly basis for
- 28:23Speaker 1: Philly to have any type of chance to win any games.
- 28:27Speaker 1: But I don't know. I think having Kelly youu Bray
- 28:30Speaker 1: Junior back is going to be a good and positive
- 28:34Speaker 1: thing for this team. And you look at a guy
- 28:37Speaker 1: like Ubra. I mean, he's mostly played on bad teams
- 28:41Speaker 1: in his eleven year NBA career, but you know, he
- 28:45Speaker 1: does give this team a little something and I think
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's gonna be nice when he does come back. And
- 28:50Speaker 1: again I think it's going to help out the rotation here.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he's whatever you think. I think at
- 28:55Speaker 2: the Baremanham you got to say, he's a legit NBA rotational.
- 29:00Speaker 2: So this guy that you plug in and and he
- 29:03Speaker 2: is one of your top eight or nine players that
- 29:05Speaker 2: you're going to be playing on a nightly basis, which
- 29:08Speaker 2: kind of pushes the guys blow him down a little bit.
- 29:10Speaker 2: You'll probably see a little bit less of Justin Edwards
- 29:13Speaker 2: and and maybe Watford or Barlow. You're gonna see there
- 29:18Speaker 2: they're skin Yeah, get reduced a little bit here, but
- 29:22Speaker 2: that's you know, that's not a bad thing. Having more,
- 29:27Speaker 2: you know, established competent players in there, who raise a
- 29:29Speaker 2: guy that you know, on a night where if nobody
- 29:32Speaker 2: else is hitt and he can you know, you don't
- 29:34Speaker 2: want to depend on it, but he can get you
- 29:36Speaker 2: thirty you know, one night if he's having a really
- 29:38Speaker 2: hot night shooting and maybe if some of the other
- 29:41Speaker 2: guys aren't. That takes the slack off of them. And
- 29:43Speaker 2: and he can you know, he can do something like
- 29:46Speaker 2: that for you. And and it isn't I mean, I
- 29:49Speaker 2: know it's a He's a wing. So you know that'll
- 29:52Speaker 2: help out a little bit as well with you know,
- 29:54Speaker 2: the guard rotation is solid with Maxi Edgecomb Grimes and
- 30:00Speaker 2: you know McCain not as much, but you have a
- 30:03Speaker 2: decent set of guards there. You need more on the
- 30:06Speaker 2: wing and up front. So getting ureyback is going to
- 30:10Speaker 2: help in that regard quite a bit.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it absolutely will. Look, I mean, I think as
- 30:14Speaker 1: much as some of us complain at times about this
- 30:18Speaker 1: Sixers team, like, I actually think it could be worse,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and I think a lot of us thought that it
- 30:21Speaker 1: was going to be worse, you know, I mean, my god,
- 30:25Speaker 1: the team hasn't won a championship in a long, long,
- 30:28Speaker 1: long time.
- 30:29Speaker 2: But I.
- 30:31Speaker 1: It's something to Eric and I talked about on the
- 30:35Speaker 1: last the last show before the New Year, and it
- 30:37Speaker 1: was that, you know what, things in the world of
- 30:39Speaker 1: Philly sports could be much worse than they are right now.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I mean, we've got the defending Super Bowl champions, you know,
- 30:46Speaker 1: who are looking to possibly get back to the super
- 30:49Speaker 1: Bowl if they can. We've got the Philadelphia Phillies, who
- 30:52Speaker 1: continue to remain a relevant National league team in Major
- 30:56Speaker 1: League Baseball. The Flyers have been fun to watch this year.
- 30:59Speaker 1: They just have you know, Trevor Zegres is freaking amazing
- 31:02Speaker 1: and it's a what a what a coup basically getting
- 31:05Speaker 1: that trade done. And now with the Sixers, I mean, yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 1: they haven't made these during conference finals since twenty twenty one.
- 31:13Speaker 1: It sucks for sure.
- 31:16Speaker 2: But they can be fun at times, Like you know,
- 31:18Speaker 2: it's I mean, they can be a fun watch.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Right sky's not falling. It could be worse, and I
- 31:24Speaker 1: think that's the That's where I'm at with this Sixers
- 31:26Speaker 1: team right now. Is as frustrating as it can be,
- 31:31Speaker 1: especially in the third quarter when we's like, what the
- 31:33Speaker 1: hell is going on in the third quarter? My god,
- 31:35Speaker 1: that they can't do a damn thing.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I think you just have to, you know, hold it
- 31:40Speaker 2: up against last season, because last season truly was a
- 31:43Speaker 2: slog it was. This season has been light years more
- 31:47Speaker 2: enjoyable than last year. So I think you kind of
- 31:50Speaker 2: I think it depends on what you're what you're measuring against.
- 31:54Speaker 2: If you're measuring it against the expectations of EMBIID leading
- 31:59Speaker 2: you to a a championship and being a year in,
- 32:01Speaker 2: year out championship contender. Yeah, you're gonna be disappointed if
- 32:04Speaker 2: you put it up against last year. It's better than
- 32:07Speaker 2: last year for sure, and hopefully it will continue. I mean,
- 32:11Speaker 2: it's hard to get overly excited because you know, you
- 32:14Speaker 2: don't know what the future in terms of you know,
- 32:16Speaker 2: we don't have our draft pick next year. What's going
- 32:19Speaker 2: to happen in the front court. How do we get younger,
- 32:21Speaker 2: more athletic in the front court to kind of sync
- 32:24Speaker 2: up with the backboard a little bit. Yeah, so's there's
- 32:27Speaker 2: a lot of questions, but in the meantime, it's a competent,
- 32:30Speaker 2: you know, fun team to watch.
- 32:32Speaker 1: It has been for sure. All Right, Well, why don't
- 32:35Speaker 1: we dive now len into some Philadelphia Union talk, as
- 32:39Speaker 1: we've been talking about the union for well over a
- 32:42Speaker 1: year now on the podcast. I believe it has been now.
- 32:45Speaker 1: You know, we we were always just talking about the
- 32:48Speaker 1: quote four major teams. We decided to talk about the
- 32:50Speaker 1: Philadelphia Union last year was a slog twenty twenty four.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I should say when I say last year, I mean
- 32:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. That was a slog getting through that
- 33:00Speaker 1: Union season, as even I started learning more about the team,
- 33:05Speaker 1: learning more about the organization, the front office, and really
- 33:09Speaker 1: started following this team a lot more in twenty twenty
- 33:11Speaker 1: five to the point where, my goodness, they were actually
- 33:15Speaker 1: doing good things and they were pulling out wins, and
- 33:18Speaker 1: we started to see some star talent really taking shape
- 33:22Speaker 1: taking form. Bradley Carnell as the new head coach, really
- 33:26Speaker 1: getting and having a bond with a lot of these players.
- 33:30Speaker 1: And now it's the off season and yet another move
- 33:33Speaker 1: has been made. We have two moves prior to us
- 33:36Speaker 1: recording this big moves where guys are being moved and
- 33:42Speaker 1: being dealt other places. And now this past week we
- 33:46Speaker 1: learned that Kai Wagner, one of their stars, one of
- 33:50Speaker 1: their main stars, is joining the English Championship club Birmingham
- 33:56Speaker 1: City in a transfer deal that basically it's really sad
- 34:02Speaker 1: and it sucks, I think for this Union team. He's
- 34:05Speaker 1: twenty eight years old and he was that star left
- 34:08Speaker 1: back that so many of us just had our eyes
- 34:10Speaker 1: on during two and twenty five. The initial fee wasn't
- 34:14Speaker 1: disclosed in the announcements that were made by both clubs
- 34:18Speaker 1: this past week. But the belief is that it's a
- 34:21Speaker 1: two point five million dollar range something like that. And
- 34:25Speaker 1: quite frankly, and I had read an article on our
- 34:28Speaker 1: on Philadelphia soccernow dot com. We've got our friend of
- 34:31Speaker 1: the show, Josh Schuster, who's a contributor over there. They
- 34:34Speaker 1: even mentioned, I mean that range in terms of the
- 34:37Speaker 1: dollar amount, feels low for a player as valuable as
- 34:40Speaker 1: Wagner who's been on the team since October or I
- 34:46Speaker 1: don't know if it was October, but since two thousand
- 34:48Speaker 1: and nineteen. Here, I mean, he was entering the third
- 34:51Speaker 1: deal of a three year deal that he signed to
- 34:54Speaker 1: stay at the club in twenty twenty four, after being
- 34:59Speaker 1: the center of trade rumors, and after this past season
- 35:02Speaker 1: again being that star, he's now gone. And I have
- 35:08Speaker 1: no idea what the hell this team is going to
- 35:09Speaker 1: look like this year out on out on that field
- 35:13Speaker 1: from match to match. Man, it kind of sucks. It's
- 35:16Speaker 1: kind of depressing in a way. What were your thoughts here?
- 35:19Speaker 2: I mean, it's tough for sure, because this is a
- 35:22Speaker 2: guy that if you wanted to sit here and say
- 35:26Speaker 2: he was the Union's literal best player for the past
- 35:30Speaker 2: couple of years. You can make a very easy case
- 35:33Speaker 2: for that. I mean I could. I could listen to
- 35:37Speaker 2: arguments for a couple of different guys, and he's absolutely
- 35:39Speaker 2: one of them. So it's gonna hurt. I mean, this
- 35:42Speaker 2: is a guy that was, you know, very decorated in MLS.
- 35:47Speaker 2: The thing with this that doesn't bother me as much
- 35:52Speaker 2: like when you lost like Bribo and Glass. This that
- 35:56Speaker 2: was within MLS, whether whether you like to hear it
- 36:00Speaker 2: or not. As an American soccer fan, I know where
- 36:03Speaker 2: you're going. Yeah, this is where they want to be,
- 36:06Speaker 2: and he wanted he wanted to go back across the
- 36:08Speaker 2: pond before his last contract. So I mean it's this
- 36:12Speaker 2: doesn't bother me as much because it's kind of I
- 36:15Speaker 2: guess doing right by the player. You know, it's where
- 36:19Speaker 2: he wanted to be. So it sucks, but you know,
- 36:22Speaker 2: you get what you can for a player like that,
- 36:25Speaker 2: and he moves back, you know, across the pond to
- 36:27Speaker 2: where he wants to be, you know. And Birmingham City
- 36:31Speaker 2: is not going to you know, make the Premier League.
- 36:34Speaker 2: They're not going to get promoted. I think they're currently
- 36:37Speaker 2: just looking it up. I think they're sitting fourteenth in
- 36:39Speaker 2: the English League Championship out of twenty four teams, so
- 36:43Speaker 2: they're about middle of the pack. Now they're a mid
- 36:45Speaker 2: pack team in that league. But you know, theoretically he
- 36:49Speaker 2: stays there and let's say next year they have a
- 36:51Speaker 2: really good season, suddenly he's in the very top league
- 36:55Speaker 2: in England. He's in probably the most prestigious football league
- 37:00Speaker 2: in the world, in the in the English Premier League,
- 37:03Speaker 2: the most known league in the world. So I mean,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you know, there's a lot of there's a lot of
- 37:09Speaker 2: you know, I guess pride in something like that. So
- 37:13Speaker 2: this one it stings, but I guess I get it
- 37:16Speaker 2: more than some of the other ones. Like trading a
- 37:19Speaker 2: guy who has been a stallwart for your team, like
- 37:22Speaker 2: Gladsness or guy who was your top scorer in Brivo.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Trading them within the same league where they can come
- 37:30Speaker 2: back to haunt you that that makes a lot less
- 37:33Speaker 2: sense to me.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So, yeah, this business went to the Galaxy and and
- 37:37Speaker 1: and Bribo to DC United, for God's.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he's literally right down the road. So yeah, so
- 37:44Speaker 2: again we don't know, you know, what they have in
- 37:49Speaker 2: terms of like in the academy and guys that they
- 37:51Speaker 2: feel might be ready and moves that they might have
- 37:53Speaker 2: on the back burner that they're going to be making.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I remember, you know, this time last year there was
- 37:58Speaker 2: a lot of the skis talk, you know, coming into
- 38:02Speaker 2: the Union season, and they went out and won the
- 38:03Speaker 2: Supporter Shield again. So who knows what they have, you know,
- 38:07Speaker 2: cooking up ready to go. I'm giving them a lot
- 38:10Speaker 2: more benefit of the doubt than I was this time
- 38:13Speaker 2: last year, because this time last year I was ready
- 38:16Speaker 2: to bury him because of you know, them letting everybody
- 38:19Speaker 2: go exactly. But you know, you kind of maybe learn
- 38:21Speaker 2: a bit of a lesson this year with how things
- 38:23Speaker 2: went that maybe you don't have all the answers. Yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 2: you have to. You have to kind of just let
- 38:30Speaker 2: it play out and see what happens. Yeah, it's it sucks,
- 38:34Speaker 2: especially when you're getting into a sport and Okay, this
- 38:38Speaker 2: is the team you're going to follow and these are
- 38:40Speaker 2: the names that you get to know. When one of
- 38:42Speaker 2: them leaves, that makes it that much harder.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Exactly, and trying to be positive about it. It's it's
- 38:48Speaker 1: tough thus far. Seriously, Bradley Carnell is gonna have his
- 38:52Speaker 1: work cut out for him this year.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, freaking absolutely there.
- 38:55Speaker 1: God, he's going to be earning his salary and then some.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I don't care what the record is at the end
- 38:59Speaker 1: of the year, but we'd love to hear from you.
- 39:01Speaker 1: If you are a Philadelphia Union fan, leave us a
- 39:04Speaker 1: comment in the comments below, if you're watching on YouTube,
- 39:09Speaker 1: and if you are listening to us, just shoot us
- 39:13Speaker 1: off an email Philadelphia Sports Table Philadelphia Sports Table at
- 39:20Speaker 1: gmail dot com. Love to read your email here on
- 39:23Speaker 1: the show and respond to it. Now, let's get into
- 39:28Speaker 1: some thoughts on this Philadelphia Phillies team in terms of
- 39:31Speaker 1: the offseason here, because we haven't dove into some Phillies
- 39:35Speaker 1: talk in quite a few weeks, and there's definitely news
- 39:39Speaker 1: moves are being made. They're not the biggest moves in
- 39:43Speaker 1: the world. Here, Don Mattingly now the new bench coach,
- 39:48Speaker 1: left handed starter Tucker Davidson was given a minor league
- 39:51Speaker 1: contract within the Phillies organization. The Phillies have actually now
- 39:55Speaker 1: signed reliever Zach Popp to a one year deal, and
- 39:59Speaker 1: then pitcher Brad Keller has also signed a two year deal.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I think that's a very interesting signing, quite frankly, and
- 40:06Speaker 1: something we actually have not talked about. I feel like
- 40:08Speaker 1: it happened. I feel like it happened like five months ago,
- 40:11Speaker 1: even though it only happened a few weeks ago. Is
- 40:13Speaker 1: that Matt Strom was traded to the Royals for Jonathan
- 40:18Speaker 1: Jonathan Bolan. And that's I mean, that's basically that that
- 40:23Speaker 1: was rough man because because Jonathan Boland really isn't all
- 40:26Speaker 1: that great.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's, you know, kind of your quintessential
- 40:31Speaker 2: I think, you know, bullpen guy that you know, maybe
- 40:35Speaker 2: you know, hasn't really shown too much thus far. I mean,
- 40:39Speaker 2: he is twenty eight years old, so I mean he's
- 40:42Speaker 2: had a point in his career where it's, you know,
- 40:45Speaker 2: gonna he's gonna have to find his spot now or
- 40:47Speaker 2: or you know never kind of Whereas you know, uh
- 40:52Speaker 2: Strom obviously is a guy that we've known for quite
- 40:55Speaker 2: some time. Brad Keller, the guy that they signed, had
- 40:59Speaker 2: a phenomenal year last year.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I thought. It was interesting.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he's he's And it's funny because Strama's basically kind
- 41:08Speaker 2: of the setup guy last year, and I think Keller's
- 41:11Speaker 2: gonna slide right into that spot.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Do you know it really quick? I think his velocity, Yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 1: do you know where it went last year. His average
- 41:18Speaker 1: fastball velocity jumped last year from ninety three point seven
- 41:22Speaker 1: miles per hour to ninety seven point one in twenty
- 41:27Speaker 1: twenty five. That's freaking amazing. And I'm like sitting there going, Okay,
- 41:31Speaker 1: what the hell, what the hell's going on here?
- 41:33Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think what's going on with it
- 41:36Speaker 2: is more of a defined role. I think in terms
- 41:41Speaker 2: of like because because I had heard an interview with him,
- 41:44Speaker 2: I think last week where they said to him, you know, hey,
- 41:47Speaker 2: if you come here, would you rather start or do
- 41:50Speaker 2: you want to be out of the bullpen? He's like,
- 41:51Speaker 2: oh my god, I want to be out of the bullpen.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I love the adrenaline of what that phone rings and
- 41:56Speaker 2: they call your name. I love everything about it. And
- 42:00Speaker 2: you know, you see that a lot of times when
- 42:01Speaker 2: guys go from being a starter to being a reliever.
- 42:04Speaker 2: You're only throwing one inning, so it's not like you
- 42:07Speaker 2: got to conserve bullets. You're in there for one inning
- 42:10Speaker 2: and you're in there to throw gas. So that's why
- 42:11Speaker 2: you see usually the uptick in velocity when guys go
- 42:15Speaker 2: from being a starter to or a reliever is for that reason.
- 42:18Speaker 2: You're in there to empty the tank. You're not trying to,
- 42:21Speaker 2: you know, go through a lineup too, maybe three times.
- 42:23Speaker 2: So I mean that's that's what that is. There. Other
- 42:27Speaker 2: move I wanted to talk about Adolas Garcia from Oh Yes,
- 42:32Speaker 2: sign of one year. I think it's one year, ten
- 42:34Speaker 2: million dollar deal. I mean, hopefully it works out. He's
- 42:39Speaker 2: a better defender than Castianos was in right field. Casti
- 42:44Speaker 2: is still with the team. They got to figure out
- 42:46Speaker 2: what they want to do with him, so that is
- 42:50Speaker 2: going to maybe cause a little bit of a logjam
- 42:51Speaker 2: in the outfield. And let's they want to move him
- 42:54Speaker 2: Castianis over the left, maybe platoonum with Brandon marsh or whatever,
- 42:59Speaker 2: do something to that effect. But offensive profile, it's kind
- 43:04Speaker 2: of basically the same thing that you're getting out of Castianos.
- 43:07Speaker 2: So I don't really see the upshot there. And he's
- 43:10Speaker 2: the guy. He's also he's thirty three, so it's just
- 43:12Speaker 2: like now. And I think coming into this offseason a
- 43:16Speaker 2: lot of us were like, man, they got to get younger,
- 43:19Speaker 2: and then they resigned Schreber, right, you know you have
- 43:22Speaker 2: to do you know, they still want to resign real Mudo,
- 43:25Speaker 2: but he's older. You signed Garcia older. So it's just like, Okay,
- 43:30Speaker 2: where where are we going to get younger here? Yeah,
- 43:33Speaker 2: in our in our you know, daily lineup. I don't
- 43:36Speaker 2: see where that's happened.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I was, I was a little bit I don't want
- 43:38Speaker 1: to say perplexed necessarily with the Garcia move Len But
- 43:42Speaker 1: the fact of the matter is it's a one year deal,
- 43:45Speaker 1: it's ten million dollars.
- 43:46Speaker 2: It's it doesn't work out, it's over yeah, low.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Risk, high rewards signing. But like they're hoping he can
- 43:55Speaker 1: do what Max Kepler could not do in twenty twenty five.
- 44:00Speaker 1: So I look, I look at this move as though
- 44:03Speaker 1: like it's it's still it's kind of likenh for me
- 44:07Speaker 1: because this Phillies outfield is the Phillies outfield still stinks,
- 44:10Speaker 1: one of the worst of Major League Baseball.
- 44:12Speaker 2: It's amazing. And that's the thing I mean, I I
- 44:15Speaker 2: am very excited about Justin Crawford. Yes, but he is
- 44:19Speaker 2: a rookie and rookies take time to adjust. And if
- 44:21Speaker 2: he doesn't hit, and your outfield still sucks, like if
- 44:27Speaker 2: he if he doesn't like hit, it big as as
- 44:29Speaker 2: a as a prospect. If he doesn't come in and contribute,
- 44:32Speaker 2: that outfield is still awful, dicey. So yeah, there's some
- 44:36Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 44:38Speaker 2: I heard a rumor about maybe they and I don't
- 44:42Speaker 2: know if they would do this because I feel like
- 44:44Speaker 2: they're already over where they want to be money wise.
- 44:46Speaker 2: But will they would they consider going after like a
- 44:49Speaker 2: Bobachett even though he's he's an infielder. Yeah? Uh, and
- 44:52Speaker 2: then maybe maybe you trade Bowe at that point, you
- 44:55Speaker 2: know that that's that would that would help the Phillies offense,
- 44:59Speaker 2: for sure.
- 45:00Speaker 1: It would. And honestly, we're fans. We don't care about
- 45:04Speaker 1: we don't care about their money. Let them spend their money.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Who cares it, it ain't my money, Yeah.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Exactly, I don't care. I want good players on this team. Yeah, absolutely, Well, buddy,
- 45:13Speaker 1: do you have anything else any other Phillies talking know
- 45:15Speaker 1: before I let you go here?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Not really, I just with regard to the I mean
- 45:21Speaker 2: with Rob Thompson, I mean maddingly his managed in a
- 45:25Speaker 2: couple of places. So yeah, yeah, if things don't go well,
- 45:30Speaker 2: they've got they've got a replacement sitting one seat down
- 45:33Speaker 2: from him now. Yeah, so yeah, that'll be you know,
- 45:36Speaker 2: something to keep an eye on.
- 45:38Speaker 1: All right, very good. If you are watching on YouTube,

- 46:01Speaker 1: gonna let you go here. Any final thoughts, any anything
- 46:05Speaker 1: you want to say with the getting into twenty twenty
- 46:08Speaker 1: six here? Any resolutions?
- 46:12Speaker 2: I yeah, I gave up on New Year's resolutions, like
- 46:17Speaker 2: a solid decade plus ago.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Oh there you go.
- 46:19Speaker 2: All right, I'm not gonna do any of this. Why
- 46:22Speaker 2: am I telling myself I'm going to do this. It's
- 46:24Speaker 2: not going to happen.
- 46:25Speaker 1: I see. I don't do resolutions. I do intentions. That's
- 46:28Speaker 1: that's what I That's what I do. Like, I intend
- 46:31Speaker 1: to do this because I feel like if I'm really
- 46:34Speaker 1: going to intend to do something, it's easier to do
- 46:37Speaker 1: that for me at least than actually doing some freaking resolution.
- 46:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I don't know if that makes sense to anybody out there.
- 46:43Speaker 2: But yeah, it makes sense, but it was funny when
- 46:46Speaker 2: I was at my parents' place over the New Year's weekend.
- 46:53Speaker 2: You know, my dad has been you know, he's making
- 46:56Speaker 2: a concerted effort to drop weight. So he has been
- 46:59Speaker 2: going to the gym face fully nice, nice for a
- 47:01Speaker 2: while now. And I did hear him like, off, Hanleys
- 47:05Speaker 2: go Christ, I'm not gonna be get a machine for
- 47:07Speaker 2: a couple of weeks and he's gonna go to the
- 47:09Speaker 2: gym now. Hell yeah, I mean until those people drop off. Yeah,
- 47:15Speaker 2: it's gonna be yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 1: All right, Well, buddy, I'm gonna let you go, folks.
- 47:20Speaker 1: We're gonna take a break. When we come back, we
- 47:22Speaker 1: got a ton of Eagles talk. We're gonna dive more
- 47:25Speaker 1: into this offense and defense with Nick Pcone from crossingbroad
- 47:29Speaker 1: dot com. Buddy, it's good scene, you man, first jet,
- 47:34Speaker 1: first podcast in twenty twenty six, new years in the books.
- 47:39Speaker 1: My gosh, this April, we'll be doing this thing for
- 47:41Speaker 1: thirteen years. I can't believe it. God, great way to
- 47:44Speaker 1: end it. Before going to break, folks, We'll be back
- 47:47Speaker 1: in just a bit.
- 47:49Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 47:54Speaker 1: And joining us to dive into this Philadelphia Eagles team
- 47:57Speaker 1: from crossingbroad dot Com. It's been there for a while.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Great content he's always putting up, specifically as it pertains
- 48:03Speaker 1: to the Philadelphia Eagles. Playoffs are here, folks, and we've
- 48:07Speaker 1: got none other than Nick Picone to dive into this
- 48:11Speaker 1: Eagles offense, the defense, what we may be seeing in
- 48:13Speaker 1: the future from this team. Nick, my friend, thank you
- 48:16Speaker 1: so much for taking the time to jump on this week.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Man, Thanks for having me on and listen. No better
- 48:21Speaker 4: time to talk Eagles for the playoffs.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'm so stoked for it. And you know, in
- 48:26Speaker 1: our Opposition Territory podcast this past week where we previewed
- 48:30Speaker 1: this matchup the Niners against the Eagles, like, there's some
- 48:33Speaker 1: there's some trepidation within Eagles Nation with regard to this matchup,
- 48:38Speaker 1: and I think rightfully so because of what we have
- 48:41Speaker 1: seen with this Eagles offense all season. So let's dive
- 48:44Speaker 1: into the Eagles offense right off the bat. Here, you know,
- 48:47Speaker 1: the structure of it, and why the hell we haven't
- 48:49Speaker 1: really seen some real changes or alterations to how things
- 48:52Speaker 1: are being run from a play design perspective and with
- 48:56Speaker 1: how in game decisions are actually being made. I cannot,
- 49:00Speaker 1: for the life of me Nick figure out why a
- 49:03Speaker 1: virtually unstoppable offense last year really changed course so dramatically
- 49:07Speaker 1: this season to the point where they've struggled and struggled
- 49:10Speaker 1: and struggled game after game without again any real alterations
- 49:15Speaker 1: to offensive strategy here. So it's an ongoing theme. It's
- 49:19Speaker 1: been here for weeks and weeks and weeks. Wanted to
- 49:21Speaker 1: get your thoughts on this surrounding this narrative and what
- 49:25Speaker 1: we've all kind of been trying to figure out this season.
- 49:27Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here.
- 49:28Speaker 4: It's been frustrating, to say the least. And you know,
- 49:31Speaker 4: they went a few games in the middle of the season,
- 49:33Speaker 4: you know that Giants game and even the few around it,
- 49:36Speaker 4: where it was like, Okay, maybe they're finally coming into
- 49:39Speaker 4: their own this season. And we know every season is
- 49:42Speaker 4: a different story, So I don't think we necessarily expected
- 49:46Speaker 4: last season to just kind of mirror itself this season.
- 49:49Speaker 4: And we knew Sakuha will probably take a step back.
- 49:52Speaker 4: But I think the offensive line not being healthy, and
- 49:57Speaker 4: you know they had their injuries through the offseason, and
- 50:01Speaker 4: Landon Dickerson in the preseason, like the open practice, you know,
- 50:04Speaker 4: he got hurt. So I think they just never really
- 50:07Speaker 4: got healthy enough right the way they were last year,
- 50:12Speaker 4: And I think that's really kind of their Kevin Patulo
- 50:16Speaker 4: and Nick Sirianni trying to figure out, Okay, how how
- 50:18Speaker 4: can we mask that? And I just haven't been able to.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Now I don't I'm like on the bandwagon of like
- 50:25Speaker 4: get rid of Kevin, like, you know, not necessarily like
- 50:29Speaker 4: that's going to fix all the problems, right, But I'm
- 50:31Speaker 4: with you, by the way, Yeah, Like we've seen so
- 50:35Speaker 4: many different variations of this offense just this year. You know,
- 50:38Speaker 4: we've seen him kind of firing on all cylinders for
- 50:41Speaker 4: a half, right, and then they can't complete a pass
- 50:44Speaker 4: to the second half. The Cowboys game, first game of
- 50:48Speaker 4: the season, it was kind of like, all right, like
- 50:50Speaker 4: it's first game of the season, not really a big
- 50:53Speaker 4: deal right now, But that was the pattern throughout the
- 50:56Speaker 4: course of the season. And now we're here, first playoff
- 50:59Speaker 4: game coming up, and we're still questioning what's going to happen.
- 51:04Speaker 4: So I understand the trepidation through Eagles fans about the offense,
- 51:09Speaker 4: but I think we're in such a better spot because
- 51:12Speaker 4: of the defense that we were, you know, even two
- 51:15Speaker 4: years ago and last year we weren't really sure through
- 51:18Speaker 4: the playoffs if the defense would continue to you know,
- 51:21Speaker 4: against Mahomes, especially in the Super Bowl. We didn't think
- 51:24Speaker 4: we were going to see that type of defense. So
- 51:27Speaker 4: I think that gives me a little stronger belief in
- 51:33Speaker 4: this team that maybe the offense has just been playing
- 51:36Speaker 4: not to lose and not necessarily I don't necessarily like that,
- 51:39Speaker 4: but they've been winning. They won one eleven games.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Or eleven and six. I mean, you can't complain about
- 51:45Speaker 1: the record.
- 51:46Speaker 4: Yeah, right, you know that they've been winning the games. Yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 4: they went on that you know, little free game losing streak,
- 51:52Speaker 4: but it wasn't like they were out. They could have
- 51:55Speaker 4: won any of those games. So I think they're in
- 51:59Speaker 4: a better spot then teams like the Chiefs. Obviously they
- 52:02Speaker 4: had a down year, and you know, the Bills kind
- 52:05Speaker 4: of like faltered a little bit this year too. The Ravens,
- 52:08Speaker 4: you know, they what happened to them. Yeah, So in
- 52:12Speaker 4: terms of like those big teams from last year, the
- 52:15Speaker 4: Eagles are like obviously at the top. So right they
- 52:18Speaker 4: have the experience, they have the coaching I think is
- 52:21Speaker 4: their biggest flaw right now, And I really don't I
- 52:25Speaker 4: don't think it's oh, we're just gonna be vanilla the
- 52:27Speaker 4: whole season and then in the playoffs, we're going to
- 52:29Speaker 4: open up the playbook because I don't necessarily see the
- 52:32Speaker 4: sense in that right either. So it's really going into
- 52:36Speaker 4: this forty nine ers game, like what are we gonna get?
- 52:39Speaker 4: We really have no clue because it could be the
- 52:42Speaker 4: same old, same old, and then we could see like
- 52:44Speaker 4: even during these games like the Bears game, the Lions,
- 52:50Speaker 4: Packers game, Chargers game, we saw like wrinkles like oh,
- 52:54Speaker 4: like keep doing that, keep doing that, and they just
- 52:57Speaker 4: abandon it. So hopefully they don't abandon what works. If
- 53:00Speaker 4: there's anything that works this weekend.
- 53:03Speaker 1: I'm hoping to see a few mesh concepts that'd be really.
- 53:05Speaker 4: Nice, something something nice different, Like you see I love
- 53:10Speaker 4: the game film breakdown, you know that we see on
- 53:13Speaker 4: Twitter much like my radio call posts, like I love
- 53:18Speaker 4: when people interact them. I love the people will appreciate them.
- 53:20Speaker 4: And I'm appreciating the film breakdown once because I don't
- 53:24Speaker 4: see that live, you know, Like I'm I'm kind of
- 53:26Speaker 4: like in the middle of the game. I'm doing my thing, right,
- 53:29Speaker 4: so I'm not paying attention to the x Razos so
- 53:33Speaker 4: that really helps me kind of figure out like, hey,
- 53:35Speaker 4: this is all coaching, or this is all the player,
- 53:38Speaker 4: or you know, you can blame one or the other.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I blame the.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Whole team just because I don't like blaming one particularly
- 53:46Speaker 4: because I think the if you blame one thing, you
- 53:50Speaker 4: kind of discount and the things that lead up to
- 53:53Speaker 4: that one thing. So yeah, we can blame Kevin Patullo.
- 53:56Speaker 4: But you know, the defense if they have like a
- 53:59Speaker 4: bad drive to be like, oh, like if I'll lead,
- 54:01Speaker 4: the defense could have stopped them here that they won
- 54:05Speaker 4: the games. So there's different things that you can point
- 54:07Speaker 4: to the course of a game. So I think particularly
- 54:13Speaker 4: against the forty nine ers, you know, we hear about
- 54:14Speaker 4: their defense not being that good and maybe again we
- 54:17Speaker 4: heard for weeks, oh, this is the team that the
- 54:20Speaker 4: Eagles offense can get right against, and they don't. Right,
- 54:24Speaker 4: We're hearing that this is the team that the Eagles
- 54:26Speaker 4: offense can get right against. Yeah, yeah, that's given me
- 54:29Speaker 4: a little like.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Ah, there's a little trepidation there for sure. Absolutely, well, Nick,
- 54:33Speaker 1: you know you met you did mention the offensive line,
- 54:36Speaker 1: and again that's been a theme throughout the course of
- 54:39Speaker 1: this season too, and I feel like, based on what
- 54:42Speaker 1: has happened this year, the nagging injuries with Landon Dickerson,
- 54:46Speaker 1: Cam Jurgens, Lane Johnson has been out for some time
- 54:49Speaker 1: towards the latter part of this regular season, I feel
- 54:52Speaker 1: like they need to figure out what to do with
- 54:54Speaker 1: the offensive line depth. This front office, they need to
- 54:56Speaker 1: figure it out. And look, I know, it's not the
- 54:58Speaker 1: easiest thing in the world. I mean, it's not the
- 55:00Speaker 1: easiest thing to come by, or every single NFL team
- 55:04Speaker 1: would be doing it, they would have great depth pieces
- 55:07Speaker 1: because offensive linemen go down all the time. But to me,
- 55:10Speaker 1: the offensive line, I mean, it really has been the
- 55:13Speaker 1: biggest disappointment this season for this Eagles team. And I'm
- 55:17Speaker 1: wondering if you actually agree with that or if you
- 55:20Speaker 1: have any thoughts about how the front office might address
- 55:24Speaker 1: depth in the future on the offensive line in the
- 55:26Speaker 1: coming months. I know, might maybe put in the car
- 55:28Speaker 1: before the horse here, but I think it's Eagles fans,
- 55:30Speaker 1: you know, that's something we really need to think about.
- 55:32Speaker 1: I want to think about, and I'm hoping there's gonna
- 55:34Speaker 1: be more of a dialogue about that, you know, after
- 55:36Speaker 1: this postseason and after whatever happens with this postseason. So
- 55:39Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on this?
- 55:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I really think how he might go after the
- 55:47Speaker 4: offensive line early in the draft. Yeah, you know, he
- 55:50Speaker 4: made a few picks last year. He's tried making trades.
- 55:53Speaker 4: You know, traded CJGJ for Kennym Green, right, and yeah
- 55:56Speaker 4: that work out. But you know, he took a shot,
- 55:59Speaker 4: and he's like, I think he's aware, like, Okay, maybe
- 56:03Speaker 4: in the off season I can deal somebody that I have.
- 56:06Speaker 4: You know, Dallas Scholar is going to be a free
- 56:07Speaker 4: agent if they don't resign him. Maybe they use that
- 56:10Speaker 4: money for you know, a premier offensive lineman that might
- 56:13Speaker 4: become a free agent, or try to a trade again,
- 56:16Speaker 4: just maybe draft to a tight end or something like that.
- 56:19Speaker 4: So I think he realizes not only even though they
- 56:22Speaker 4: have a lot of people keep saying they're an elite
- 56:25Speaker 4: offensive line, well not this year. It has the same talent.
- 56:30Speaker 4: You gotta like think about this year specifically, so you know,
- 56:35Speaker 4: Saquon not getting and the offensive lines had some players
- 56:40Speaker 4: that are really good that you know, either Jalen doesn't
- 56:43Speaker 4: get rid of the ball quick enough or just makes
- 56:45Speaker 4: a bad decision, or Saquon doesn't find a hole or
- 56:49Speaker 4: you know, we see we kind of see that play
- 56:51Speaker 4: out here and there, but overall, I think just the
- 56:54Speaker 4: bad play the offensive line dictates, you know, the rest.
- 56:59Speaker 4: So I don't really blame Saquon, I don't blame Jalen,
- 57:03Speaker 4: But again, like there are great quarterbacks that can play
- 57:08Speaker 4: great without a great offensive line, but I don't think
- 57:10Speaker 4: that's a recipe for success. They haven't won super Bowls
- 57:13Speaker 4: that way, you know exactly Patrick Mahomes offensive line protesting
- 57:16Speaker 4: him really well or in his run, so you know, like,
- 57:20Speaker 4: I think that has a lot to do with the
- 57:22Speaker 4: running game and the passing game, and I just if
- 57:27Speaker 4: we have a healthy lane, I think it makes a
- 57:30Speaker 4: huge difference. And if he's not healthy, then might still
- 57:35Speaker 4: be better than the other options they had, right if
- 57:38Speaker 4: he's able to play, you know, I think he did practice.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Yes, limited practice, so.
- 57:44Speaker 4: At least he's on the field again and practicing, so
- 57:47Speaker 4: I know there there was some question of whether he
- 57:49Speaker 4: would be ready to go on Sunday, but I think
- 57:53Speaker 4: no one is really saying he's out or even in
- 57:56Speaker 4: question at this point, So that makes me feel better.
- 58:00Speaker 4: Cam Jurgens can get a healthy out, He's he's probably
- 58:03Speaker 4: still dealing with you know, he had a back injury,
- 58:05Speaker 4: right and surgery on the back, so like, yeah, his
- 58:08Speaker 4: movement might not even be there yet. You know, as
- 58:11Speaker 4: you go through a football season, if you're not one
- 58:13Speaker 4: hundred percent at the beginning of the season, you're really
- 58:15Speaker 4: not going to be one hundred percent now. Yeah, So
- 58:18Speaker 4: if you if you're ninety percent going into the season,
- 58:20Speaker 4: and maybe Cam was ninety percent, he's definitely not going
- 58:23Speaker 4: to be close to one hundred percent right now. So
- 58:25Speaker 4: I don't think we write them off or anything like
- 58:28Speaker 4: that because I played a huge role last year. We
- 58:31Speaker 4: see what he did. One of the best centers in
- 58:33Speaker 4: the league, if not the best center. So you give
- 58:36Speaker 4: him maybe like a year to get back to it
- 58:39Speaker 4: or whatever. But again, he's probably their best option. They
- 58:41Speaker 4: don't have that depth that you said that we've seen
- 58:45Speaker 4: you know before. It's not like they can rotate guys
- 58:47Speaker 4: in and out, and not that you want that, but
- 58:51Speaker 4: you know, it's just not the same. And we could
- 58:54Speaker 4: see the trickle down effect into the running game and
- 58:57Speaker 4: then into the passing game. So if they can take
- 59:01Speaker 4: this tide, that's why I was okay with wrestling the starters.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, Yeah, just let them get rest, Yes, exactly.
- 59:08Speaker 1: The number three seed is fine, folks, it really is.
- 59:11Speaker 1: I'm happy where this team in general is at from
- 59:15Speaker 1: an overall perspective. Like we said, eleven wins on the season,
- 59:18Speaker 1: I will take that now. Nick, you know the tone
- 59:22Speaker 1: here as we started the conversation may sound it a
- 59:26Speaker 1: little negative right off the bat, and no, we are
- 59:28Speaker 1: not Negadelphia on this podcast platform by any stretch of
- 59:32Speaker 1: the imagination. But you know, with this team in the
- 59:35Speaker 1: playoffs again they're the number three seed, there's actually, I
- 59:38Speaker 1: think a lot to celebrate with regard to this Eagles team,
- 59:41Speaker 1: and sometimes I think we get wrapped up in the
- 59:44Speaker 1: negativity of certain things. So I want to talk about
- 59:47Speaker 1: some of these positives that we're going to be seeing
- 59:49Speaker 1: from this Eagles team, not only this week against forty
- 59:51Speaker 1: nine ers. If they beat the forty nine ers, what's
- 59:53Speaker 1: going to happen in the playoffs. And talking about this
- 59:55Speaker 1: Eagles defense, which you would referenced earlier, and especially the linebacker.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I cannot believe I'm saying this. Four years ago, I
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: would not be we would not be using the words
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: like strong linebacker corps at all. Zach Bond has another
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: stellar season. Kobe Dean had a great season and he's
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: gonna be returning this week. From my understanding, from his injury,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Jihad Campbell has been great in spots and has so
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: much room to grow. You can see that potential there.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I'm wondering what are your thoughts on how impactful this
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Eagles linebacker corps will be and even needs to be
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: throughout this postseason.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: I think Hallie finally has seen what big strong linebackers
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: can do for you. Yeah, like and not big strong,
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: I just mean, like, you know, getting the job done,
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: you know, was quick.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: Yeah, pursuit of the ball is important, Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Like if again, like you see like number one ride
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: receivers and other teams if there's a linebacker matched up
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: on them, and you kind of see on the broadcast
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: how they highlight that because you don't want a linebacker
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: match against you know, these quick guys. But the Eagles
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: have those guys that can do that. And I think
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: that's the biggest aspect of the defense that let's you know,
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: let the pass rush work and then the second layer
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: you don't really you might not have like that quick
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: dump all for whatever that quarterback might look for. So
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: then you got to like, look deep and you have
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Q and Cooper Degenie back there, so that I think
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Howie's finally come around to you like maybe I need
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: to focus on defense. And he didn't really have a choice, right,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: They didn't have anybody defense, So and they had a j. Brown,
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: they had Devonte Smith already, they had Jalen already, they
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: had Dallas got it already. So and they had the
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: O line pretty much set. So okay, let's go draft defense.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: Or signed Zach Bond for one year and look what happens.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: And you said it, a lot of people were like, Okay,
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: that might be Zach's best year last year, so like
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: even if he goes down a little bit, you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: it'll still be okay.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: Don't even think he was down.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: And again, just having the players that want to play
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: under Vic Fangio. And that was the other thing where
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: Vic coming from Miami and you heard a lot of
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: those defensive players talk, you know, not not so nice
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: about pick Fangio. And then in the back of my head,
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: I'm like, oh no, like this is gonna backfire, and
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: look what happens. So you know that in himself, I
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: think is a huge get when Vic comes back and
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: you get him as your defensive coordinator, and then you
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: have guys like Q Cooper with talent, Zach Ball and
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: the pass rush which was seemingly non existent for a
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: lot of this season. And then you go get Jalen
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: Phillips and it almost even without Like if Jalen isn't
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: producing now, but other guys are, like Jay lox Son
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: has stepped up again. You know, he's had a couple
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: of big games. Yeah, that I think was what Howie
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: was backing on in the off season when he let
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: guys like Josh Sweat go, Milton Williams go. That's again
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: we were little tripidacious about that, being like, oh, this
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: defense isn't going to be as good, and look it
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: is absolutely I think you know that. And again it
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: might stem from making sure those linebackers are there, you know,
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: like we don't want to get rid of bad and
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: we can't replace him, like who were going to replace
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: him with? We get to you know, Campbell is not
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: really a starter right Like he's a rotator guy right
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: now who could be a starter as early as next year.
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: Because you said it, he's shown a lot of good
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: things this year, so you know, having you know, talked
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: about it for years, listen to sports radio, you just
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: read articles. You're like, man, we had no linebackers.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: T J.
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Edwards just like the last special linebacker we had. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: so and it's funny because we remember those names. We
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: see him Alex Singleton and like Denver and we're like, oh,
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: I remember him. Was he was that one line that
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: made some plays that we really like. Yeah, the same
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: with TJ. Edwards, right, you know now that we have
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: multiple and you know, hopefully Nikobe Dian can come back
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: if he can stay healthy. I know, you know he'll
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: help you a free agent, but you know, it would
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: be really really cool to keep that core. Yes, and
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: you know they're still young. It's not like they're old.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Right right, Yeah, core component to this defense here for sure.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Well we're going to take a break really quick here,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Nick at underscore, pecone over on the Twitter slash x
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: correct Yes, all right, very good, crossing broad dot Com
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: any any other social sites you're on you want to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: promo feel free.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: My friend Yeah at picone on blue Sky, at Underscore,
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: picone one on TikTok and then appicone Nick on threads
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: I try to use those social media you know, my
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: clips follow Nick.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I've been following Nick for years. It's great to have
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: them on the PSD podcast show for the very first
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: time here. So again we are going to take a break,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: we get background to talk more defense and where this
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Eagles team is going to be head and stick with us.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: All right, we are back with our good friend Nick
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Pocone from crossingbroad dot com. If you're over on Twitter
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: slash x at underscore Pacon, He's is a great, great
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: follow and I know I know you do some Villanova
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: coverage too, right, yeah, nice.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Very good.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you know men's basketball hopefully back, Yes, yeah.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Well, look, sticking with this Eagles defense and the theme
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: we have seen specifically with regard to the secondary. You
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: know you mentioned the secondary, Quinjon Mitchell, Cooper, Degene. I mean,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: I'm so grateful for these guys. I know we all
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: are at this point. And I'll even say this too,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: adri Jackson has been incredibly productive during the second half
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: of the season for sure. I mean we have seen
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: that with our eyes. As frustrating as he was first
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: few weeks of the season, he's really stepped up his
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: game for sure. So you know, whether it's the nine
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: receivers quite frankly Nick, or the Rams receivers or even
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: the Seahawks receivers, I think this secondary is really going
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: to need to play lights out in order for this
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: defense to really be successful and for the team to
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: be successful overall too. How are you assessing what this
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Eagle secondary really needs to accomplish in the playoffs to
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: inevitably get to the super Bowl?
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: You know, turnovers would be nice, that would be yeah.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: They you know, if we play someone like Matt Stafford,
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: he's not going to just sit back there and hold
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: the ball, right, He's going to get rid of it quickly.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Sam Darnold too, like he you know, he's turned his
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: career around. Yeah, having a great year in Minnesota and
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: then now in Seattle, and uh, you know those guys.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: You if the pass rush isn't going to be able
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: to get there quick enough, Q and Cooper are going
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: to be like, you know, replag a ship two like
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: they're going to be key. And I don't think I
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: would have rather have anybody else too, because they barely
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: hear heard C all season right the I think the
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: first time I really like heard his name was when
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: he made a penalty the other week. Yeah, and I'm
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: just like, oh wow, you know, like, you know, they
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: just don't throw in his direction. And then Cooper makes
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: like plays right, like he's a play maker and c
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: is like a play non maker like him.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Stopper is a good nod maker.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's a stopper.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: That's that's a good way to put it. So, uh,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: you know, I if they could do more of the same.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: You know, Kyle Shanahan is going to have like, you know,
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: a playbook that's so different than Kevin Batullo's that you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: the routes and the way he's going to try and
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: get these receivers open. I think Vic Fangio's job versus
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: Kyle Shanahan will probably be the key to the game,
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: not so much Kevin Batulo Nick Sirianni's offensive game plan,
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: but what bit can do to make sure Kyle doesn't
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: because again, like and I've heard it through all throughout
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: the week, these are the type of games Kyle Shanahan
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: excels in when you know he doesn't have stars, right,
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: but like he will will kind of like find a way.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: He's been to two Super Bowls, so like, I do
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: give him credit for that, but some sometimes we do
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: over estimate what he can do. Absolutely, you know in
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: crunch time as well. So, uh god, didn't I swear
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: he didn't know the overtime rules against I still can't
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: believe it.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: It's astonishing.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: And uh so, yeah, VIC against Kyle is going to
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: be really really cool to see what VI can do.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: And really Cooper and Q are going to be uh
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: needing to you know, cut routes or something like that,
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: maybe like get an interception like rock Party isn't imprevious
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: interceptions or turnovers like that move him or exactly. Yeah,
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: you can easily rattle him and U. It's just a
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: matter of doing that. And again, like they play a
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: defense like Philly and similar Seattle this past week and
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: you see what happens, like they don't have much of
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: an answer.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think with and it's been mentioned with brock Party,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: if the Eagles are able to get any sort of
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: penetration through that pocket or get that pocket to collapse
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: a bit, it's that much more difficult for brock Purty.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: We've seen it time and time again for him to
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: get through his progressions. He gets rattled, you're gonna get sacks,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: he's gonna throw the ball away. And I think that's
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: inevitably what this team and defense are gonna need to
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: do to win this game. They need to rattle brock
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Purty where he's just not able to get through his progressions,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: and I think that's gonna be a key component to
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: this game. So, Nick Man, I don't want to keep
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: you any longer. And you know, we've talked about strengths
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: weaknesses of this Eagles team, and I guess you know,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: to close us out here as where we're running out
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: of time here just from an overall playoff perspective here,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: because as we look at some of these teams, you know,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: I think the Bears and the Packers, quite frankly, I
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: think they're kind of weak teams. I think the Eagles
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: really can beat those teams. I think the Eagles can
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: beat the Rams and the Seahawks. I think the Rams
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: are going to be a tough team if the Eagles
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: inevitably play them. I really believe this is the Eagles
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: conference to actually lose here. And I know it's a
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: very general question, but how do you see the NFC
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: playoff picture looking in the coming weeks with all these teams.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: Here, Yeah, we see, we heard it. You know. I
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: think the biggest opponent of Eagles is the Eagles. Yeah, yep,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: they have the experience too, right, So not only did
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: they go to a Super Bowl, lose, collapse the next year,
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: and I go back to the Super Bowl and win
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: it against the team they lost to, which hasn't been done,
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: right Jay, the first time quarterback has gone back to
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: the Super Bowl and beat the team that he lost to.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: So I think that should give the Eagles kind of
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: like a leg up a little bit, you know. Yeah,
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: Matt Stafford is probably the best quarterback in the playoffs
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: right in the NFC. Right now, I would say, I
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: don't we beat them, you know, three times in a row, right,
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: three to zero against the Rams the last three games
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: they can with this defense, I think they have a
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: great chance to go as far as the offense will
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: take them, because really it's going to be about the
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: offense scoring those clutch drives where you know, it doesn't
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: necessarily have to be early in the game, but if
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: they can, you know, just just do enough. And you know,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: against these teams, I think like there's no team that
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: scares me except the Eagles.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Because and then converting on third and long. I mean
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: it has been that's another theme.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: Too, to get a third along maybe.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: How many exactly how many third and eights have we
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: seen this year And it's so frustrating.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: To get like five yards for a pun exactly. I
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: don't want to see that in the playoffs. That's what
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: I'm I'm hoping, you know, we maybe we opened the
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: playbook a little bit, but I don't think we need
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: a whole new system, you know, a little bit more
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: execute you have, get those first downs and do not
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: throw bombs on like third and three to the end
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: zone like they do with Tanner McKee because I can't.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: I won't be able to stand play calls like that.
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: Give me play calls that makes sense in the scheme
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: of the game, trying to get first downs, not just
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: this random, willing, nilly stuff that I don't think anybody
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: has any idea. So we need like more continuity in
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: offensive play calling through the course of the playoffs. And
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: I think, you know, I don't think we'll not see it,
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't have the best feeling in
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: the world that we will. So it's going to be
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: really the defense and then the offense. If they can
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: just score.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Enough exactly, if they can just do enough that Abby
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: that I think at the end of the day is
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: what we're gonna be hoping for here. So that being said, folks,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: he is Nick Pacone from crossingbroad dot com at Underscore
