Transcript
- 0:14Speaker 1: Okay, hurdlers, Emily here popping into your feed for five
- 0:19Speaker 1: Minute Friday. What a week? Every week feels like a
- 0:26Speaker 1: month when you're home in quarantine. For those of you
- 0:31Speaker 1: that missed five Minute Friday last week, this is a
- 0:34Speaker 1: fun little segment I'm doing on the podcast where I
- 0:37Speaker 1: share a story, I offer you a thought provoking prompt,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and then I share my content highlights of the week.
- 0:47Speaker 1: So yesterday I decided to wake up and go on
- 0:51Speaker 1: a run. The morning started pretty slow, I had a
- 0:56Speaker 1: little espresso, I was enjoying reading and journaling. I got
- 1:03Speaker 1: ready for the run and I went out there, and
- 1:04Speaker 1: I didn't exactly have a distance in mind. I just
- 1:09Speaker 1: knew I wanted to get to other parts of the city.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think it's been really interesting spending the last what
- 1:16Speaker 1: feels like forever, but is really I think about ten
- 1:19Speaker 1: days now within a four or five block radius. Anyway,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I headed downtown and I weaved my way down the
- 1:27Speaker 1: east side of Manhattan toward the Lower east Side. And
- 1:30Speaker 1: I had a choice. When I got to the Williamsburg Bridge.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I could either turn around and run the four miles
- 1:36Speaker 1: back up, or I could take a loop, And so
- 1:39Speaker 1: I went for the loop and I went over the bridge,
- 1:42Speaker 1: made a left toward Williamsburg proper, weaved my way through,
- 1:46Speaker 1: stopped by McCarran Park, kept going through Greenpoint, over the
- 1:51Speaker 1: PULASKI back in, over the Queensboro and back uptown to
- 1:55Speaker 1: the upper east Side, and I think it was heading
- 1:58Speaker 1: on over Theansborough when I realized just how much I
- 2:03Speaker 1: was enjoying the run. You know, running is something I
- 2:07Speaker 1: do at least four or five days a week, and
- 2:10Speaker 1: up until recently it had felt kind of tedious, as
- 2:14Speaker 1: it can be sometimes with marathon training. But recently, after
- 2:19Speaker 1: the postponing of London and my plans shifting, I've been
- 2:24Speaker 1: able to find the joy in running again. I've been
- 2:27Speaker 1: able to feel like my best self on the run.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I noticed on the bridge that I felt so thankful
- 2:37Speaker 1: and grateful just to move, just to get outside of
- 2:42Speaker 1: the walls of my apartment. I was so grateful for
- 2:45Speaker 1: this simple thing, this one activity, and it's so awesome
- 2:50Speaker 1: that this thing can bring me so much happiness. Still,
- 2:54Speaker 1: of course, there are the days where it feels painful
- 2:57Speaker 1: or frustrating, or I might have a goal that I
- 2:59Speaker 1: don't exactly meet, or I have to abandon a workout
- 3:03Speaker 1: part of the way through. I'm not perfect, no one
- 3:07Speaker 1: is perfect, but on this day yesterday, I felt whole.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's pretty awesome. So this week's prompt, what is something
- 3:17Speaker 1: in your life that you can do today, this weekend
- 3:22Speaker 1: or soon that brings you true joy? And I want
- 3:26Speaker 1: to follow that up with another question, is there something
- 3:29Speaker 1: in your life that falls into this bucket that you've
- 3:33Speaker 1: been over complicating lately? And as an aside, if you're
- 3:36Speaker 1: doing these prompts at home, which I hope that you are,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and you're writing down your answers, I would love for
- 3:42Speaker 1: you to share them with me on social media by
- 3:45Speaker 1: tagging either at Hurdle Podcasts at Emily Abody and of
- 3:49Speaker 1: course you're always welcome just to send me it over
- 3:51Speaker 1: a DM or via email. It's Emily at Hurdle Us.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Now my content picks for the week. First and foremost,
- 3:59Speaker 1: Brene has a new podcast. If you've never listened to
- 4:03Speaker 1: her speak before or read her books, I highly recommend it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: One of my favorites is I Thought It was just
- 4:09Speaker 1: Me but it isn't. Or another great gateway is her
- 4:13Speaker 1: Netflix special. Anyway, the podcast is called Unlocking Us. I
- 4:17Speaker 1: believe there are already three episodes out and I'm really
- 4:21Speaker 1: digging it. Hurdler reached out to me yesterday on Instagram
- 4:25Speaker 1: and suggested that I get the book. Maybe you should
- 4:28Speaker 1: talk to someone by Lori Gottlieb. I've seen it popping
- 4:31Speaker 1: up on Instagram. I've heard it's great. I ordered it
- 4:34Speaker 1: yesterday on Amazon and I'm holding it right now. I'm
- 4:37Speaker 1: super excited to jump into that. And then I think
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's really important right now to shout out the people
- 4:43Speaker 1: that are doing some good, specially those in the fitness industry.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It's a hard time a lot of them figuring out
- 4:50Speaker 1: how to make ends meet and how to make a
- 4:53Speaker 1: shift now that they can't work with clients in person
- 4:56Speaker 1: or teach their regular classes. And so I want to
- 4:59Speaker 1: give a quick shout out today to a few people
- 5:01Speaker 1: that I think are doing a stellar job over on Instagram,
- 5:05Speaker 1: especially Ashley Wilking. She's a Nike trainer as well as
- 5:09Speaker 1: a Rumble trainer. She has been going live at least
- 5:13Speaker 1: what seems like twice a day and putting some really
- 5:16Speaker 1: awesome content out there. Also a shout out to Bethany
- 5:20Speaker 1: Lyons and lions Den Power Yoga your five PM Happy
- 5:24Speaker 1: Hours have been getting me through. And then lastly, if
- 5:27Speaker 1: you have yet to check out Nike Training Club Premium,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they're offering the app for free to everyone right now
- 5:35Speaker 1: in the US and they've got a lot of really great,
- 5:38Speaker 1: thoughtfully produced workouts on there with a slew of people
- 5:42Speaker 1: you've heard on Hurdle before, from Joe Holder to Patina Gozo,
- 5:46Speaker 1: Christy Gotzo, Alex silver Fagin. Definitely definitely check those out.
- 5:52Speaker 1: One more content highlight to bring you from my friend
- 5:55Speaker 1: Kelsey on Instagram at Kelsey Underscore Try. She does the
- 6:01Speaker 1: funniest thing called TikTok Thursday, where she goes through and
- 6:06Speaker 1: highlights some of the most ridiculous tiktoks that exist for
- 6:09Speaker 1: the week. And let me tell you, everyone deserves a
- 6:13Speaker 1: good laugh right now and you will one hundred percent
- 6:16Speaker 1: get it if you go on over to her profile
- 6:18Speaker 1: and check it out. I'm going to close out today's
- 6:20Speaker 1: five Minute Friday with just a little reassurance. I have
- 6:23Speaker 1: a poster that sits on my TV stand by a
- 6:27Speaker 1: company called Nolita, and it says, everything is going to
- 6:32Speaker 1: be all right right now, Just do me a favor.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Take a deep breath, hold it in, feel your heart beating.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Take in one last sip of air, exhale, and remember
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're alive. This might be hard, we're going to get
- 6:57Speaker 1: through it all right. At Emily A Body at Hurdle Podcast,
- 7:01Speaker 1: another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next week
