A Lansing postal worker, Adrienne Burns, sparked a heartfelt mission after noticing her veteran customer Robert Haywood’s home was broken into — and his Purple Heart medal was stolen. Moved by their bond and Haywood’s sacrifice, Burns enlisted her high school friend, County Commissioner Nicole Christensen, to help. Together, they rallied local and national officials, including U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett and VA Secretary Doug Collins, to secure a replacement medal.
